BABYLON IS FALLEN, FALLEN.

—:o:—

Hail! the twilight now appearing,
Faithful watchmen’s hearts are cheering,
While the hireling shepherds fearing,
Omens rising from afar;
See those sunlight scintillations
Signets bright to all the nations
Hails from party rule salvation,
Freedom by the Morning Star.

Hark! the watchmen still are cheering,
Shouts of triumph still we’re hearing,
While the eastern sky is clearing
Shows our might so dark and drear;
Yet no harm we need he fearing,
While that sunlight we are nearing
To that light our bark we’re cheering,
In our hearts the Day Star’s dear.

So the earth is full of wonder,
Saints rejoice while sinners ponder,
Hear O earth the seven sealed thunders,
Hear thy dreadful doom at last;
Proud sectarian hearts are failing,
Hireling shepherds too are wailing,
By the Day Star saints are sailing,
Watchman still before the mast

See the white robed Bride returning
While old babylon is burning,
And all partisans are mourning,
All their merchandise as lost;
Hear their doleful lamentation,
See their dreadful consternation,
Faithful watchman shout salvation,
With the bright millennial host.

Lo our darkness is declining,
While the sevenfold light is shining,
Purifying and repining,
Shows our vict’ry almost won;
So the sunclad Bride rejoices
With those sweet celestial voices,
While all Christians make their choices
With that Church clad with the sun.

Change of raiment she is choosing,
All her Bridegroom’s army using,
And all partisans refusing
Shall be smitten with the Sword;
By true watchmen then invited,
If by party vails benighted,
They the Savior’s rule have slighted,
They are rebels to their Lord.

NEED WE LETTERS OF COMMENDATION?

_____

A sister writes us as follows. “I do think those out as public teachers should come recommended where they are unknown, for there are some claiming to be holiness workers, who come around holding meetings, and afterward are found out to be guilty of some evil deeds, and then the reproach is great upon the holy people. It seems to me that God’s word is plain on this, and each should come recommended from where they are known.”

Answer. — Dearly beloved if you allow evil workers to come among you and pretend to preach the Gospel, and you afterward must suffer reproach because of the corruption of their lives, you do not suffer for righteousness sake, but are simply “buffeted for your faults.” You are not where you ought to be, or you would know by the Spirit of God in your heart when Christ speaks in a man, and when satan tries to personate an angel of light “He that is spiritual judgeth (or discerneth) all things yet he himself is judged of no one.” The Church of God in her normal state is full of judgment and able to discern every spirit, whether it be of God or of the devil.

The New Testament was given for the government of such a Church, but all sectism is beneath the Bible plain of illumination, hence all the mass of babylon machinery, legislation and tests, which are a poor miserable shift instead of the Spirit of God. But does the New Testament direct us to give letters of recommendation? Thus saith the Inspired Apostle, But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but, by manifestation of the truth, commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. 2 Cor. 4:2. The possession and honest presentation of the truth, by the power of the Holy Spirit, was sufficient to commend him to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. This is a glorious fact, for which we do earnestly thank God to day; we rely wholly upon the Spirit of God to vindicate us in the conscience of all men. Without Him we could do nothing. Often the whole country is flooded with the vilest slanders against our character. But we pay no attention to them or seldom make any allusion to any thing evil said of us, in fact seldom retain it in our minds five minutes, excepting when recalled by some one speaking of the same. We just let God display His divine light, joy and power, through us, and know that all candid hearts are made to feel of a truth that God is in us. And such hearts that are so gross, bent to evil and encased in sin, as not to feel the fire of God in us, an epistle from the holiest person on earth or from an angel in Heaven, would only be treated with base contempt.

Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you? Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men. Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the Living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshly tables of the heart. And such trust have we through Christ to Godward: not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God. — 2 Cor. 3:1-5.

Paul intimates that certain persons felt the need of letters of commendation, doubtless because lacking the divine power of God in their souls, to give assurance to all men of “Christ speaking in them.” But he was not of that class himself. “Ye are our epistles written in our hearts, known and read of all men.” — The salvation of their souls through his instrumentality was one of the evidences that he was owned and blessed of God. “For by their fruits ye shall know them.” Neither need we receive letters from other places to learn what fruits a holy man bears. “The fruits of the Spirit are in all righteousness, and goodness, and truth.” And as soon as two souls meet and hear each other talk, especially in the congregation of the Lord, if both possess the Spirit of God in a pure heart, the fellowship and fruits of the Spirit of God will be recognized. There is but one safe way to avoid religious imposters and that is by living in the Spirit of God where you need not “judge from appearance,” but are able to “judge righteous judgment,” as the Lord Jesus commands us to do. Should letters be relied upon, you are in danger of being deceived. A few who are destitute of the Spirit of God, and are driven from the Church of God by the holy fire, may get together, ordain eachother and give letters, as from the Church at such a place, and go out to deceive honest souls by means of such papers. Again, persons who are in possession of the true Spirit of God, may stray from the highway and become crooked, and go on holding these letters, use them to gain the confidence of the saints, and bring a curse upon the cause. In which case the persons whose signature they use to give them the character of a minister of Christ will be, to some extent responsible for the evil they do. But the Word says, “Be not partaker of other men’s sins.” The credentials that God gives His ministers are revoked the very moment their ability to represent God as an embassador is lost. The Holy Spirit is both the preachers qualification to preach, and license to preach. So when his power for usefulness ends, his authority also ceases. On the other hand, if a man in whom the saints have lost confidence, because he has lost salvation, returns to God, is saved and filled with the Holy Spirit, the saints perceiving the grace of God in him, need not wait for the man to get a recommend, or certificate from any Bishop, priest or conference; but “where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty.” Some one may say that God’s true ministers are so established that we can safely give them a letter of recommendation, having strong assurance that they will never depart from God, and abuse the power thus entrusted to them. This is true. There are certain brethren who we always expect to find true and faithful to God. But they are not the kind that feel the need of letters of commendation. Of the many we laid hands on for ordination to the work of the ministry, but a very few have asked for a certificate of ordination, and they have proved the very ones that most needed it, not being, at least some of the time, filled with the Spirit, and true to God. So we have concluded to let God write the credentials on the heart of His preachers. And all who have the divine seal of God, “the mark of the Lord Jesus,” need no letter of ministerial calling and character from men. And all who have not the Spirit’s recommendation do not deserve one from the Church. Amen!

ANOINTING FOR HEALING.

—:o:—

SOME one writes us, stating that a sectarian had taught that healing by faith, prayer and the laying on of hands was all past, and that according to the correct rendering from the Greek James 5:14, 15, does not mean literal anointing, and physical healing, etc. The sister requested us to give light on the subject. We have just examined four translations, and find none of them varies scarcely any from the language of the Common Version, and none of them differs in the sense at all. The direct word for word translation from the Greek, in the Emphatic Dyaglott is as follows. “Is sick any one among you, let him call for the Elders of the congregation, and let them pray over him, having anointed him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith shall save the one being sick, and will raise up him the Lord.”

Thus we see our Common Version of the Scriptures has correctly translated this subject. It is a plain, permanent rule laid down in the New Testament that the sick, if unable to grasp healing by their own prayers as directed in verse 13, then they should call for the Elders of the Church, etc. It does not look as though faith healing was to end with the Apostles. These directions were recorded by James A. D. 60. Twenty-seven years after Christ’s ascension to Heaven. And “the Word of the Lord endureth for ever.” The promise that “the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up,” is just as good to-day as it ever was. And there is no more proof in the Bible that God’s power and gift of healing was to cease, until the end of time, than that His power to save souls should come to an end. Because babylonians have departed from the God of the Bible, and the “holy flesh has departed from her,” they, not having faith and power with God to lay on hands and believe for healing, allow satan to console them with the idea that faith healing has been taken out of the Church. But instead of the gifts having gone out of the Church, they have gone out of Her themselves. God put these gifts in His Church, and not in any sect; and all who return with a whole heart from sectism which is “written in earth” — Jer. 17:13, to Mount Zion, the Church of the Living God which is written in Heaven, find the gifts all there yet us they were originally. Praise God, the “remnant have returned, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.” Isa. 10:21. Serving the weak gods of babylon, men did not, and still have not power to receive healing, etc. So they judge the God of Jacob by their idols. But while the gods of this world blind the eyes of them who serve them, the God of Israel opens the eyes of the blind, and healeth all our diseases.

But what kind of oil should we use to anoint the sick? James does not tell us. The Olive oil was principally used for sacred purposes in ancient times, and we have usually used it, with the blessing of God’s approval. But we find in Exodus 30:23-26, 31, this prescription for a holy anointing oil.

“Take thou also unto thee principal spices, of pure myrrh five hundred shekels, and of sweet cinnamon half so much, even two hundred and fifty shekels, and of sweet calamus two hundred and fifty shekels, and of cassia five hundred shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, and of oil olive an hin: and thou shall make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil. And thou shalt anoint the tabernacle of the congregation therewith, and the ark of the testimony. And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, This shall be an holy anointing oil unto me throughout your generations.” This anointing of the tabernacle may have some figurative reference to the anointing of our bodies, which are the temples of God; for, “behold the tabernacle of God is with man.” The command that it should not be poured upon man’s flesh, in verse 32, doubtless refers to a common use of it For in verse 30, it is written, “Thou shalt anoint Aaron and his sons.” The principal part of this composition, you see is olive oil, but the additions impart, a beautiful odor, and makes the oil more thin and penetrating. The simple fact that this oil was once devised by Jehovah Himself, imparts a degree of sacredness to it, which makes it very preferable to us to use for healing purposes. The prescription given by the Lord, in the above Scripture, is for a large quantity. Bro. J. P. Haner was led of the Lord to figure the recipe down to a small quanity, for healing purposes, which we give as follows.

Holy Anointing Oil.
Myrrh, ….. 3(1/4) grains,
Sweet calamus, 3(3/4) „
Cassia, ….. 7(1/2) „
Oil of Olive, 1 gill.

We have been using the above and recommend it as a beautiful anointing oil.

THE WAY OF SALVATION.

—:o:—

Harper, Kan.

DEAR TRUMPET Reader: — May God wonderfully bless and fill you with all of His sweet fulness. We commenced meeting at Nashville Kan., in the neighborhood of Bro. J. M. Robinson on the 29th of Feb.. We found the little Church at that place on back ground, not having heard the evening light preached in its glowing beauty, but being ready and willing to walk in the light. How sweetly our souls were filled with the holy fire; and shouts of praise, and songs of victory resounded to the glory of God. O praise the Lord for His goodness and love, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever should believe on Him should not perish but have eternal life.

One dear Bro. who had claimed sanctification in the M. E. sect some years ago, said that he had never seen the Word of God in such clear and transparent light, as the Holy Ghost had portrayed it to his mind, since he had entered the blessed evening light. Oh praise the Lord! all the saints received a better experience. One dear Bro. whom the U. — let me — B. sect had caught in their net and entangled in the meshes and coils of babylon, was gloriously delivered. We met great opposition from the U. B’s who did every thing they could to stop the meeting; even the shepherdess advised them not to come near us. In a sect of forty members we only found one that really had any salvation at all, and he came out, “and the whole kingdom become full of darkness.” The last Sunday of the meeting, six were buried with Christ in baptism, and at night we had a glorious ordinance meeting at the house of Bro. Robinson. Oh! what love filled our hearts as we followed Jesus in the precious examples set by Him.

The work in this western country of drawing God’s flock out of babylon is made doubly hard by the cold and rashy anti-ordinance come-out spirit. We find this prophesied of in the 50th chapter of Jer., beginning at the 41st verse. Coming from the north denotes their cold, raspy and frozen state of religion. “They shall hold the bow and the lance: they are cruel and will not show mercy: their voice shall roar like the sea, and they shall ride upon horses, every one put in array, like a man to the battle, against thee, O daughter of babylon.” — verse 42.

This Army come out of babylon, but took their old sect discipline and what more light they have received, and dwelling in the borders of “Chaldee and Egypt.” They throw cold taunts and frozen arguments at babylon, and only drive those who would return to Zion, back into the center of the city, (sectarianism.) “They are cruel,” denotes their cruel way of presenting the (truth) in a loud, and rashy, and grating voice. They profess to be in Canaan (holiness) but lack the sweet voice of Jesus, and the gentleness and meekness of the Lamb of God. Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan unto the habitation of the strong: bull will make them to suddenly run away from her — verse 44. They finally return to babylon, or cease to preach against her. Therefore hear ye the counsel of the Lord, that He hath taken against babylon; and His purposes, that He hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely He shall make their habitation desolate with them — verse 45. God chose His own army led by Christ “on white horses. Rev. 19:11-15.

The most abominable work of the devil is that of lowering the standard of justification to nothing, and making salvation consist of one work and that sanctification; and that we are not Christ’s nor Christians, sons of God nor have the Spirit at all until sanctified wholly. In John 17, Christ is praying for the sanctification of His apostles and all believers; and in said chapter, emphatically teaches that they are His. In verse 9 — “I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. Ver. 10 — All mine are thine and thine are mine” — proving that the apostles were Christ’s and the Father’s. “Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one as we are. While I was with them in the world I kept them in thy name. — I have given them Thy Word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world” — teaches that they are not of the world, that is, they do not have the spirit of the world. “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God.” “And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise” — i. e. of holiness. — Gal. 3:29. “And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of His Son info your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.” — Gal. 4:6, 7. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father — and if children, then heirs. — Rom. 8:15, 17. We receive the Spirit of the Son, making ns heir to perfect holiness.

Now this is plain that we are sons of God when converted — Christ prays for them who are His. “If ye be Christ’s, then are ye heirs,” and none but sons are heirs to holiness. “We are saved by the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Ghost. The first work of grace puts a new moral nature within us, even the Spirit of adoption, and makes us a son of God. The carnal mind being a subjugated foe in our hearts, and is bound down by the Spirit of Christ, is no part of the new, holy nature of Christ within. The new nature is holy and has all of the graces of a perfected Christian, the same as a small child has all the organs of a man; but the new-born soul needs a teacher to develop and train those organs, and therefore the Holy Ghost come to cast out the subjugated foe (carnal mind) and abides as a teacher and guides the regenerated and now sanctified soul into all truth. Now to show that we have two moral natures in us between justification and sanctification, we will turn to Rom. 8:10, “And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.” The body of sin being bound down, having no access to the reigns of the heart, the Spirit rules in the regenerated heart. “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.” — Gal. 5:17.

Paul found two laws in his members warring one against the other. — Rom. 7:22-25. But praise the Lord, he got deliverance. — Rom. 8:1, 2. “But if ye, through the Spirit, do mortify the deeds of the body ye shall live.” — Rom. 8:13. Therefore we must mortify the flesh through the Spirit, and none but they who have the Spirit can do it. “And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” Then none but those who are Christians are heirs to holiness; therefore the first induction into grace makes us Christians, because we partake of the Spirit of Christ.

We are now at home ready for calls to preach the truth; saved, sanctified and walking in all the commandments and ordinances of Christ.

CHRIST THE LIGHT.

—:o:—

THEN spake Jesus again unto them saying, “I am the light of the world; he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” And Christ speaking to His disciples says, “ye are the light of the world; a city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.” Praise God! when we have Christ formed within, then are we all light and there is no part dark, but we are free from all sin, which is darkness; for He says “sin shall not have dominion over you.” For ye were sometime darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light; for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth; proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. Eph. 5:8-10. The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be fall of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other, or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Matt. 6: 22-24. God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. Wherefore awake thou that sleepest and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. See then that ye walk circumspectly not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time because the days are evil. O how many there are that profess to be children of God, that have no light in them but are all darkness; and will not come to the light lest their deeds should be reproved; proving what the Lord hath said: they love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest that they are wrought in God, He that loveth his brother abideth in the light and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. But he that hateth his brother is in darkness and walketh in darkness and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes. Little children let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous even as He (Christ) is righteous. Praise God for the light! Arise shine, for thy light is come, and His glory is risen upon thee. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth and gross darkness the people; but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and His glory shall be seen upon thee; and the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and Kings to the brightness of thy rising. Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls salvation and thy gates praise. The Sun shall be no more thy light by day, neither for brightness shall the Moon give light unto thee, but the Lord shall be unto thee an everlasting light and thy God thy glory. Thy Sun shall no more go down, neither shall thy Moon withdraw itself, for the Lord shall be thine everlasting light and the days of thy mourning shall be ended. Thy people also shall be all righteous: they shall inherit the land forever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified. A little one shall be come a thousand and a small one a strong nation: I the Lord will hasten it in his time. Isa. 60: Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised in the city of our God; in the mountain of His holiness. Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is Mt. Zion on the sides, the city of the great King. God is known in her palaces for a refuge. Praise God! He is my refuge and strength and He maketh my way perfect Hallelujah! I will greatly rejoice in the Lord; my soul shall be joyful in my God, for He hath clothed me with the garments of salvation: He hath covered me with the robes of righteousness. O, praise our God forever! For thou Lord art high above all the earth; thou art exalted far above all Gods. Ye that love the Lord hate evil.

He preserveth the souls of His saints, He delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked; light is sown for the righteous and gladness for the upright in heart. Rejoice in the Lord ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of His holiness. O, praise our God forever and ever!

I am walking in the sunlight
With my golden armor on;
Fighting for my blessed Savior
God’s well beloved Son.

Cho. — Victory victory is the chorus
Over sin and death and hell?
Jesus helps us fight the battles;
Yes He doeth all things well.

Lifting up the blood stained banner
With the staff within my hand;
And the cross of Christ I’ll cherish,
While I follow His command.

Yes a soldier for my Jesus;
I’ll not shirt nor fear to die,
But will stand and face the battle
And the enemy defy.

I’ll not fear to fight for Jesus,
Though the enemy be strong.
With the sword we know we’ll conquer;
Praise the Lord ’twill not be long.

For each one shall chase a thousand,
Though he be so very small.
For with Christ we know we’ll conquer
Jesus is our all in all.

Then dear comrades take the armor
And the sword within thy hand.
And the enemy we’ll conquer:
Just obey the Lord’s command.

Your sister saved and sanctified wholly and walking in the glorious sunlight of God’s eternal truth. Amen and amen!

EXPERIENCE, PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE.

—:o:—

I will speak of thy testimonies also before kings, and will not be ashamed. — Psa. 119:46. “For the testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of prophecy.”

I was naturally born in Psa. 51:5, and for some years lived in Eph. 2:12, and walked in Eph. 2:2. My conversation was like Eph. 2: 3. A truthful description of me is found in Isa. 1:6 and Rom. 3:10—19. My wages I found in Rom. 6:23 which was not enough to live upon. Not liking my master, I knocked at Matt. 7:7, 8, then made a discovery in John 3:3, also found the way at John 14:6, and was received though a rebel at Rom. 5:8-10. I then saw my reasonable duty at Rom. 12:1, and performed it with the assistance of a minister who lives to help others at Heb. 8:1, 2, through whom my offering was accepted; who also gave me in return, the promise of His Father: Acts 2:23, which purified my heart and shed abroad the love of this minister in my heart, which made me perfect at Heb. 10:14. I also found it was no lie at Col. 2:10, though satan told me so, saying. It is written in Eccl. 7:20 and Matt. 19:17. Because I was sealed at Eph. 1:13 and could sing Rev. 1:5, 6, and shout for joy with a great multitude at Rev. 7:10 not only so, but I was able to glory with them in Rom. 5:3, 4, and obey the same kind of people at 1 Pet. 1:14-16, Rev. 12:10. And this peculiar singing, shouting, buying and obeying I was enabled to do while my old master was busy doing 1 Peter 5:8. By exploring the land a little I soon found I had become heir to a whole estate, the title deed of which I found at 1 Peter 1:4, and Rom. 8:17. I also heard through John 14:2 that this King’s Son had gone up to this inheritance to prepare a mansion for me. I found the building and how it was built in 2 Cor. 5:1. If you wish to know the dimensions of it call at Rev. 21:10. There you will find a graphic discription of it. I soon learned that this mansion had but one entrance door from this earth which was at John 10:9. My conversation and hope now will be found in Phil. 3:20, and the reason of my rejoicing in Col. 1:13. Should you desire to know my present address it is at Eph. 2:6. Please attend to what the servant says at Luke 14:17. Call any day for instruction at Prov. 8:32-36. When 1 Thess 4:16, 17 comes to pass I shall be caught up and expect afterwards to be at Rev. 19:7-9. Please attend very closely to Rev. 22:7, Heb. 9:28, last clause, and you will be glad you did so: sooner than you may now think; but if you will not, then you will find your portion at Matt. 25:11, 12. How all this comes about you will find in John 3:16 and 1 Tim. 1:15. I trust you may believe the record in 1 John 5:11-20 and rely upon John 19:30, his last three words, also 1 Cor. 15:3, 4, Rom. 8:1, Acts 2:33, and may your walk ever be in Acts 9:31 last clause, Eph. 5:2, and thus may we ever obey Col. 2:6, 7.

This is my testimony, past present and future, for the testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of prophecy.

NEWS FROM TO FIELD.

—:o:—

VISITING THE CHURCHES.

—:o:—

EARLY Sabbath morning, May 13, came two teams from the Center Chapel and brought us out to that sacred place to meet with the holy saints. Dear Bro. Speck, his sister, our company with nearly all the TRUMPET family went out in the name of the Lord. Dear Bro’s Palmer and Michels also came to the same place. O what a glorious and heavenly time. As soon as we met and began to sing in the Spirit, the glorious outpouring of the Holy Spirit came upon us from the presence the Lord. The house was filled with the glory of God, and the redeemed of of the Lord leaped and shouted their joyful praises to God, who, according to His Word “rejoiced over them with singing.” After thanksgiving and praise service, the precious Word of the Lord was joyfully listened to, the saints “all prophesied one by one,” about forty-five souls testified to full salvation. O what a wonderful Deliverer the Lord our God is. Some who had used tobacco upward of forty years were instantaneously delivered from the appetite by the miracle working Christ. One man had been delivered out of four secret societies and all other coils of satan. O praise God for a clean sweep salvation through the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ!

Many of the saints brought along their basket of provision, and we remained together until the evening service, conversing about the holy ways of the Lord, and his wonderful dealing with our souls. The moments were all very precious. Truly “a day in thy courts is better than a thousand” of the happiest days we ever witnessed in the tents of wickedness. The Church of the Living God is in glorious unity and divine grace at this place.

In the evening, after hearing the gracious words of the Lord Jesus Christ, all his willing and obedient children obeyed our Lord and Master in the sacred ordinances of washing one another’s feet and the Lord’s supper. O blessed be the Lord for the beauty, wisdom, benefit of all His commands. Blessed is “he that hath His commandments, and keepeth them,” and he it is, Christ says, that loveth Him. After meeting we were all conveyed home again, and a half night’s sleep, blessed of the Lord, found us all fresh to resume work for Him in the morning. O how delightful this life in the Spirit of God, and all directed with a single eye to His glory. Truly this walk with God is beautiful, and joyful beyond all description.

Sabbath, May 20, God blessed us with a very beautiful day. That day had been appointed for a baptismal meeting at Columbia, first station east of us. Dear Bro John Mayne who spent some months in the TRUMPET OFFICE, and went into the vineyard of the Lord last winter, held a meeting here, and God sealed the young brother’s ministry by the salvation of numbers of souls. An old Bro. of eighty-three years, who had used tobacco sixty four years, was joyfully saved, and instantaneously healed of the tobacco plague. His companion who had also used the poisonous weed for many years was saved and fully delivered from the destroying habit. Several of the converts were baptized by dear Bro. Palmer after the day services. In the evening the school house was pretty well filled with happy saints of the Living God. There was a precious testimony service, probably forty or fifty souls honored God by declaring what He had done for their souls and bodies. O what a Christ we have found on this high way of holiness! How He does bless those who honor and obey His Word. Again we commemorated His love and humility in His lowly example of washing one anothers feet, and His death and suffering in the symbols of His broken body and shed blood. Glory to Jesus! His secret is with them that love Him, and that keep His commandments. Bless His holy name for ever! There were four souls consecrated to God, and were blest with His great salvation. O praise God for the mighty power of His Spirit, the Comforter in our souls. We are happy to report that the great work of God is moving on rapidly. The blessed evening light is spreading, and holy saints are multiplying upon the earth, and the joyful praises of God are sounding out in every direction, and the holy bonds of divine love and fellowship are growing sweeter and stronger. Praise God!

There is a sweet and sacred flow
Of bliss supremely pure,
Through every heart made white as snow,
It sparkles ever more.

Sweet fellowship, thy crystal tide
Sings joyful in our soul;
Baptized in one, naught can divide
While love and peace control.

God over all and through us all,
In floods of blissful light,
Is fellowship in every soul,
Thats pure in Heaven’s sight.

O fellowship my brethren dear,
In bonds of perfect love;
How blest the seal of union here,
With all the saints above.

This fellowship with Father, Son,
And all who love the Lord,
Is Heaven here on earth begun,
‘Tis paradise restored.

The flames of love more fervent burn
When pure disciples meet,
But evil spirits they discern,
Nor can as holy greet.

O brethren how our Spirits blend
In fellowship so dear;
Though sundered far by God’s command
We feel you still so near.

Dear saints of the Most High God in whom our life is hid. Being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge — Col. 2:2, 3

After an absence of over one year in the providence of God we have been permitted to enjoy a few blessed meetings together with the saints in this city. Our heart was made to rejoice exceedingly to find them so firm, and full of the Holy Spirit; they were ready to go on the streets and declare what the Lord had done for them. One Salvation Army Captian who became disgusted with the awful corruption of that sect came out and denounced the sect name and took the name of the Lord, and says he wishes to be baptized into that name. There is a difficulty at present to find a suitable building in the city that can be had for less than ten dollars a night; but we are now offered a good tabernacle which will seat three hundred people for thirty dollars. We are asking the Lord for the money and believe he will send it in. Dear Brethren let us pray mightily to God to make this summer far exceed any previous year, in the spread of the knowledge of the glory of the Lord. Let us praise God for what He has done, and count no sacrifice dear to us which will carry the truth to the people, that will lead some to see and accept Jesus, the only Savior from sin. God is moving on in glorious triumph, and the devil knows his time is short. Rev. 12:12. Let us not be found among the stragglers that die in the wilderness; for the Church is coming out of her, clear as the Sun, fair as the moon and terrible as an army with banners. Dear Brethren, think what this cause has cost: first and greatest, the blood of Jesus, and millions have shed their blood since, that the cause might not be trampled down; and there never has been more enemies than at the present day.

“In the valley of decision, there’s a battle drawing near,
Sectish gog and magog powers all around the saints appear;
But our God is our munition and our hearts shall never fear,
The victory is sure.”

Dear Brethren: — May God bless you all with the fulness of His love, and keep you saved by His mighty power. Amen!

O glory to God! I am saved, soul, body and Spirit, sanctified by the Holy Spirit. I praise God I have found that there are so many dear saints on the earth. O how much I would like to attend the Camp Meetings you spake of, and if the Lord wills I will attend one of them. I feel stronger in the Spirit each day, and am praying that God will increase my knowledge of the truth in His blessed Word. O praise God for the love, joy and peace that I feel in my soul! I have never told you the work that God had to do for me. He cleansed me from the appetite of rum, whiskey and tobacco (both smoking and chewing) in the twinkling of an eye: and how I do praise Him for it. Had I not ought to praise him for such a wonderful work in me, and He has saved and sanctified both my soul, and my dear wife, and taken all the pride of this wicked and sinful world out of our hearts. I am glad that God is leading me in the truth and the light, so I am not ashamed to have every thing about my present life revealed before the saints, before God and all the earth.

“And if now my soul doth boast,
It is of the Holy Ghost.’’

We need a minister here at this place very bad to expound the Word and teach evil doers the right way. I am going to begin work at this place, the Lord willing, but I am yet very young, both in Christ and in the flesh. I am only ninteen years old and was only saved last October, but God is making me strong, and I will give my youth as well as old age to my Master’s cause, and be the means of turning many souls to God. As I read the Word, I can see new points in it all the while. I thank God that He has taken all the man-fearing spirit out of me, and I shall endeavor to set the Word before the people as my Father shall reveal it to me by His Spirit. I believe in teaching the whole Word of God and not hold back anything, for it is sharper than any two-edged sword, and cutteth like a sharp instrument. Fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. — Matt. 10:28. May God bless you all and keep you saved by His mighty power. From your Bro. in the Lord.

Dear Saints: — I can praise God for keeping me saved. Glory to God for a salvation that will save all the time. My testimony is, that God in His infinite mercy, and through the blood of Jesus Christ, has saved me. Praise God, I am founded upon the Rock Christ Jesus, doing His will at all times. Glory to our God! My soul is so full of the glory of God I can hardly write. Praise God, I am sanctified in the Lord.

There has been one soul saved since Brother Warner left us, and others are under conviction. I do bless God for this evening light, and my prayer is that others may see by our good works that Christ can and does save all who will come unto Him. Hallelujah to God and the Lamb forever! The dear saints here are working hard to save sinners and bring them to the light. The Lord has blessed my soul wonderfully since I gave up self and am living for God alone. The babylon preachers here say that we are without a leader. O may God open their eyes as he has mine; then they can see our Leader. Praise God for such a Leader as my Lord Jesus Christ. O if they would come out of babylon and ask for pardon, and quit their daily sinning, they might see the blessed Leader. Praise God O my soul! Dear saints, pray for God’s Church at Wayland. May God bless the saints and keep them humble, is the prayer of your saved and sanctified brother.

Denver, Colo.,

In the name of the Lord Jesus I sit down to write a few lines to the dear saints. The dear Lord gives me a scripture in Jer. 3:3. “Therefore the showers have been with-holden and there hath been no latter rain & thou hadst a whores forehead, thou refusest to be ashamed.” Go to babylon meetings and you will see plenty of these foreheads. What are they? some may ask. Well will tell you; you go and see them and you will find they have their foreheads full of ornaments and curls and their faces covered with paint, which is an abomination to the Lord. Now dear children of God do not for Jesus’ sake and your own soul’s sake copy anything of the world and keep your forehead free from anything that looks like the signs of a vain heart, for God abhors it and so must you. And if you look so peculiar as the world will say, Amen! God says “love not the world neither the things of the world,” but follow Jesus in His way which is a peculiar one. Glory to God! He will bring the showers on your soul and make you to do His will and keep His commandments; and as a result other souls will be helped to get into the depth of God’s love. Dear saints the Lord is blessing me in doing His work in proclaiming the unsearchable riches of His Word.

The work here was withstood by two brethren who had listened to deluded prophets. They came to the meeting and gave their deluded testimony, but the Lord put such power in the Word while reading it, that they became convicted of their error, came forward, and one of them openly confessed his sin and fell on the floor, crying to God for mercy. After a long struggle the Lord forgave him and he rejoiced and begged the brethren to forgive him which they did joyfully. O, brethren pray for the work here; for this city is full of false prophets who lie in wait to beguile souls out of the true way. They cannot stand the truth in the meetings, but do their hellish work outside with their false lights, which are delusive dreams, revelations and feelings to which they resort when the Word is brought down on them. O dear saints I am so thankful that God has established a Church here that the gates of hell cannot overcome. Ever since a few have been established here on His Word; the devil has done his best to overthrow, but glory to God in the highest! He has undertaken for us, and helped us by His power and exposed the devils work on every hand. I am so glad the dear Lord has shown us how to try the spirits; just the moment a false prophet gets up and opens his mouth, the Lord lets us look through his deception. My heart is full of the joy and glory of God; I love His truth, which is the Word, and I pray God to plant it deeper and deeper in my heart, soul and mind. The Lord bless all His saints especially those that are in the Master’s field doing His work. Blessed Lord give grace, peace, glory and strength to His laborers in the field, is my prayer in Jesus’ name. Your Bro. in Christ.

Dear Brethren: — May grace, mercy and peace be multiplied unto you. Amen! my testimony for Jesus is, that I am saved just now from all sin and sanctified by the Holy Ghost through the blood of Jesus. Glory to God! Christ has made me free and I rejoice in my freedom. Praise the Lord! it has pleased Him to place me here among the very dregs of babylon confusion; there are in this place eight sects: the M. E.’s, F. M.’s, Presbyterian. Christian, Catholic, Advent, Universalist and Spiritualist sect. Glory to God! I have the victory over the beast. There is sister Dudgeon, myself and family here who are saved; and God’s grace is sufficient to save us amidst all the temptations of the devil. The Word of God is a lamp to my feet and a light unto my path, therefore I shall not stumble nor fall. Paul says in his first epistle to Timothy 4:1, 2. Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy having their conscience seared as with a hot iron. So we see there are placed before the people eight different ways to go to heaven, when Jesus says “I am the way, the truth and the life”. Jesus Christ is the Church; whosoever climbeth up some other way the same is a thief and a robber. And if any man will be my disciple let him deny himself take up his cross and follow me. Praise God! I am in the straight and narrow way, having denied myself of all ungodliness, perfecting holiness in the fear of the Lord. Now may God bless the dear saints near Melrose, O. and keep the little Church in that place from being overcome by the evil one. How often we think and pray for the dear saints of that place, where we used to meet to worship God. We felt as we gave them the parting hand the morning we left there, thinking that perhaps we would see each other no more here upon earth; but praise God, we can meet in Heaven if we prove faithful. Your saved brother in Christ.

OBITUARIES.

—:o:—

Died in Charlevoix Co. Mich, May 9th 1888, sister Ellen Miller aged 81 years 4 months and 14 days.

Sister Miller was born in the village of Antrim, Ireland, Dec. 25, 1806. She had been a servant of the Lord for about forty years; walking in all the light that she had. Although she did not feel the satisfying portion until about three weeks before she passed away, when she saw a bright form in her room which said to her, You are saved; which caused her to shout glory! glory!! glory!!! She had been blind for nine years, and could not look upon things which were seen with the natural eyes; but she looked upon the things which are seen with the spiritual vision, which are things eternal. She had lived a widow twenty-eight years, twenty-four of which has been spent with her son and daughter, Bro. and sister John Miller who cared for her very tenderly, leaving nothing undone that could be done for her comfort. God reward them for it. The last words of sister Miller was said to her daughter as she called her to the bedside and gave her hand and said: “Here is my heart and here is my hand;” but she could not finish the sentence, and Jesus took her up into glory with Him, where she shall see with unclouded vision Jesus as He is. May the rich blessings of God he upon dear brother and sister Miller, and keep them faithful unto the end that they may have right to the tree of life, and enter through the gates into the City and receive the crown of life and meet all of the saved ones who have passed on before.

“But a little season only,
Ere the hearts that here are one
Shall forever be united
In the realms beyond the sun;
Love cannot be quenched by dying,
But will stronger, purer grow;
Wipe away the tears of parting,
Loose the cable, let me go.”

“O death where is thy sting, O grave where is thy victory.”

Henderson, Pa.

“Why do the heathen rage and the people imagine vain things?” We have never seen this Scripture so fully manifested as we saw it at the funeral of brother Wm. McClellan one week since last Sunday evening. Bro. McClellan had been a member of the M. E. sect for a number of years, until two years since last January, when, he opened his eyes to the light as revealed in God’s Word; which plainly showed him that sectism was not of God, and that there were higher attainments for him in the divine life. He had been praying for years for the time to come when he would be permitted to meet a people who worshiped God in Spirit and according to His Word, this prayer was answered; and Bro. McClellan was ready to join in with the saints of the Living God, and consecrated himself to God fully and was sanctified wholly to God, and worshiped with the saints of God during the remainder of his days on earth. And at the funeral of my own dear companion which was conducted by Bro’s Palmer and Perine, Bro. Me. was asked how he liked the way her funeral services were conducted; he said he was well pleased, and that was the way he wanted to be buried, by the people with whom he worshiped: but his request was not granted him. But the saints of the Living God were deprived of the privilege of having any thing to do in burying their dead. But thanks be to God, who giveth us the victory through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We are now all more closely united than ever, and are clinging more firmly to the great Shepherd who says, “Lo, I am with you always.” Bless God for ever! We have yet thirty well tried soldiers for Jesus at Henderson, who have not and will not bow to the beast. Their robes are white, their lights shining, their lamps and vessels well supplied; and blessed be the name of the Lord, we are the Bang’s children, walking on the highway of holiness, all redeemed, saved, sanctified and under the blood.

Your Bro. in the bonds of Christian fellowship.

Little Anna, infant daughter of Joseph and Bessie Weston, went home with the angels May 2nd 1888, aged 2 years and 13 days.

Precious little bud
Lent us for an hour,
Now taken home to God
To bloom in Eden’s bowers.

Mother’s heart is sad,
How it aches to-day
Gazing through her tears
At her precious clay.

Mother dry thy tears;
Hear the Savior say,
“Anna’s safe with me
In Heaven’s eternal day.”

Then lean on Jesus’ breast,
He’ll sooth thy heart of pain,
And thou shalt meet thy babe so dear
And never part again.

ANOTHER CALL

Dear Bro. Warner: — I am looking unto Christ who is the author and finisher of our faith. Wife and I are all alone, and we hope that some of the brethren will call by Bunker Hill and preach the Word. We still are sanctified and hope to see some of you very soon. I would like to have you, through your paper, please invite Bro. J. P. Haner to visit this place; and if he will favor us by a call, will he please write me a few days before, so that I may meet him at the Depot. I feel led to say that the Lord has many people in this place.

“THE HIDDEN MANNA.”

—:o:—

TO him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna. — Rev. 2:17. The Lord Jesus provides “a table before us in the presence of our enemies” (the ungodly.) — Isa. 23:5. “To those who overcome the wicked one;” and those who care living “on the husks of the world:” and by faith feed in the green pastures of God’s Kingdom. Yea even the formal Christian knoweth little of this meat and those who are “babes in Christ, desire the sincere milk of the word.” — 1 Pet. 2:2. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age (perfect) even those, who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. For every one that useth milk is unskilled in the Word of righteousness; for he is a babe. — Heb. 5:14, 13.

Bless God, all Bible workers are Bible eaters; that is they live by faith in Christ. I am the bread of life; this is the bread which cometh down from Heaven, that a man eat thereof and not die. — John 6:48, 50. The Israelites did eat “angels food” and yet they died. But this the true bread; this manna for the soul is found on the mountain of God’s holiness, and this mountain shall the Lord of hosts make unto all people, a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the best of fat things full of marrow. — Isa. 25:6.

When the angel had brought Lot out of Sodom, they warned him; “escape for thy life: look not behind thee: neither stay thou in all the plain, escape to the mountain.” How many are like Lot, they leave the highlands of faith, and are content to live on the plain; and then slowly but surely “pitch their tent toward Sodom.”

Glory to God, this mountain life of faith is where the Christian finds that of a truth of God’s way “thy paths drop with fatness.” But the rebellious dwell in a dry land. Oh that my people had harkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways. He should have fed them also with the finest of wheat: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee. — Psa. 81:13, 16.

The Lord is rich, even all that call upon Him. “There is bread enough and to spare.”

You will find when in the paths of the Lord, walking before Him perfectly in all His commandments and ordinances blameless, the fatness drops into your soul, and it becomes like a watered garden.

God says, “wherefore do ye spend your money for that which is not bread? and your labor for that which satisfieth not? (paying for something that does no good, and laboring to build up a sect that can never satisfy the soul.) “Hearken diligently unto Me, and eat ye that which is good,” (not corrupt doctrine) and let your soul delight itself in fatness. Incline your ear and come unto me. — Isa. 55:2, 3.

Come ye, buy and eat; yea come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

The Israelites were commanded to eat unleavened bread with the Lamb. So praise the Lord, pure preaching gives God’s people a pure vision of Christ, through the Holy Ghost, “the bread of life.” The blessed Jesus hates corrupt doctrine, and living; but says, “to him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna.” This manna is called hidden, because it does not come down to the level of the earth, as the manna of old. But on this mountain, shall the Lord of hosts, make unto all people a feast of fat things. “I will feed them in a good pasture, upon the high mountain of Israel shall their fold be: there shall they lie down in a good fold, (not in a corrupt sect fold,) and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel I will feed my flocks, and I will cause them to lie down, saith the Lord God.” — Ezk. 34:14, 15.

The mountains of Israel reach above sin, the world, and flesh; and there is no real rest like on these mountains.

“Lord I believe a rest remains,
To all Thy people known.
A rest where pure enjoyment reigns,
And Thou art Loved alone..

“A rest where all the soul desire,
So fixed on things above.
Where sin, and fear, and grief expire,
All cast out by perfect love.”

Oh pilgrim! take God’s Word as your staff; Jesus as your guide, and by God’s help throw away the weights and sin; give up all, yea all, and by faith claim the mountain. Your soul will breathe the Heavenly fragrance; you will be strong and do exploits. Mountain people are strong And love liberty.

May God help all His dear saints to be overcomers by the blood of the Lamb, and the word of their testimony; and get where their meat is to do their Heavenly Father’s will, and finish His work, and keep on the mountain where as it is said, “and He shall destroy in this mountain the face of the covering east over all people, and the vail that is spread over all nations.” — Isa. 25:7. The unbeliever soon disappears before the Sun of righteousness. And where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty.

Those who live down by the rivers of babylon, they hang their harps on the willows. They breathe the spirit of idolatry of sectism, and partake of other mens sins, and live on an old love long ago waxed cold. “Come out of her my people;” come out from among them, and be ye separate. The Lord tells His workers, “Come, my beloved, let us go forth into the field; let ns lodge in the villages. Let us get up early to the vineyards; let us see if the vine flourish, whether the tender grape appear, and the pomegranates bud forth: there will I give thee my loves. The mandrakes give a smell, and at our gates are all manner of pleasant fruits, new and old, which I have laid up for thee, O my beloved.”

A blessed warfare heavenly nation every day. Jesus is all in all in His ways and works. Blessed is he that eateth bread in the Kingdom of God. Jesus says, “as the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. The just shall live by His faith.” Praise God, for this blessed right to the tree of life. Jesus saves and sanctifies me wholly. Pray for me.

BRING AN OFFERING UNTO THE LORD.

—:o:—

DEARLY Beloved Brethren: — We are impressed that the time has come for a more earnest effort to be made for the advance of this glorious evening light.

Now dear saints and readers of the Trumpet, much might be done that is left undone, for the want of the necessary means to carry on this glorious work of God. Now dear saints examine yourselves and see if you are doing all that God requires of you; whether there is not lurking back in your heart a desire to get a little more of this world’s goods that you may do some great thing. Ah brother if so, that thought is not of God; be assured that it comes from the evil one who is feeding thy soul with opiates to prevent you from doing to day what thy hands find to do. Many of you are poor we know, some are needing the necessaries of life; to such we say take courage, work and pray as the Lord gives thee strength. But many have houses, lands and wealth entrusted to their care by the blessed Lord; to you dear brother and sister I want to say (and we feel impressed that it is of God) does your consecration measure up to the Bible standard in this matter of giving of the substance God has entrusted to your care? Is it all the Lord’s or do you keep back part of the price? Many dear souls filled with the Spirit and power of God on whom He has set His seal as His messengers of the cross are ready and willing to go forth and engage in this holy war under King Jesus, and yet in a measure they are bound, being compelled to remain at home to labor for the support of their little ones. Dear ones you say you are consecrated to God. How deep is your consecration? Then again brethren I see that Bro. Warner has asked that we do something by way of publishing tracts for free distribution. Let me say that for a long time this has been in my mind, and I have longed to see the time when we might be able to have such tracts as bear directly on the glorious doctrines of holiness as a second work of grace, the leadings of the Spirit, justification by faith and on the Church of God, also many others. There is no telling what amount of good might thus be accomplished. But one thing we are sure of, God would be glorified and His Kingdom built up in our midst

All around ns souls are dying
Knowing not this evening light,
Soon to close their eyes forever
In the darkness of the night.

O, brother go carry the message of love,
For many in darkness are dying to day.
Soon the Savior will come from above,
O gather the gleanings while you may.

O my brethren let me entreat of you awake; arise and shine for thy light is come, be up and doing for soon gross darkness will cover the earth; but a little time and then we will go into the marriage supper of the lamb. Let me entreat of you that while,

The golden harvest is waving,
Give help to the laboring one,
To go and bind with gladness
Bright sheaves to gather home.

I am sure that most of the saints are as well able as I am, and now I feel that we must do something in this glorious work and do it quickly. Let every soul who is professing to be consecrated to God take their own case before Him in earnest persistent supplication to know what the mind of the Lord is concerning yourself in the matter. Now brother, sister, do not lay this paper down until you settle this one thing; I will give all that the Lord wants me to give. Then do not allow the devil to persuade you that you must have this or that first, but he true to God in all things and I am pure that this glorious cause will make a grand move forward in this year, more than ever before. Now for the time to give for the publishing cause, let me say that I feel impressed by the Spirit, that every saint that goes to the Bangor Camp meeting should take a free will offering to the Lord, be it ever so small. And every one who does not go to the C. M. should send in an offering, so that it might all be gathered at that time and the work commence immediately afterwards. O that I could make every one hear in the name of the Lord! “What thou doest, do quickly.” If the Lord wills we expect to be at the gathering of the hosts of Zion at Bangor and our consecration is made in this matter.

In the love of Christ brethren we write this that God may be glorified. Your Bro. saved by the blood.

WHO WELL GO?

Dear Saints, how I do wish I could see some of you, and talk with you. How I need Spiritual food; my soul is starving, yet I know God’s store-house is full; I do not yet enjoy the fulness, yet I have had many a full meal from my Father’s table, and I do believe He will provide food for my hungry soul again. There are others here that would like to have the true Gospel preached to them. One man said he would let the saints preach in his house, if they were filled with the power of God. there has almost every thing gone through here but true salvation; and people are left unsaved, and many are passing away.

Dear Brethren, if there are any of God’s servants that are filled with the Holy Ghost, that are at liberty, please send them here; and I believe God will provide for them if they work for Him. I will leave it in the hands of God. From your unworthy sister.

THE SPIRIT OF THE BEAST.

—:o:—

Bro. Achor of Kansas, reported in the TRUMPET, how an old sister of the Quaker faith, obtained salvation, and followed Christ in the command of baptism. This stirs the venom of J. G. Schmid, the Trumpet of the Kingdom (of satan) publisher; and thus the man foams over: “I want to tell you that if this be true, that a person who has called herself a Quaker was baptized into water, she was only a spiritual harlot. If any person that claims to belong to the Quakers, does believe in water baptism, it would be better for the cause if they would withdraw from the doctrine of George Fox, so that the trash which call themselves Quakers, but are children of hell would separate themselves. I say again, you can have all the trash that call themselves Quakers but believe in water baptism, mark, it is only trash.”

John G. Schmid.

Such is the spiteful, acrid, spirit of sectish idolatry. Any man who will denounce as “trash,” “children of hell,” etc. an old lady, whose fife and character he knows nothing against, simply because conscientiously led to diverge from his creed, deserves the contempt of all good people. That man needs the grace of repentance for his sins, and when born of God, he will be satisfied with the doctrine of Christ, and not wrangle for the doctrines of Geo. Fox, nor rant at holiness and the ordinances of Christ.

Dear Brethren: — I feel led to write my testimony. Hallelujah to the Lamb! O I do praise the Lord that He ever called us from darkness to the true light of the Gospel. I can never thank the Lord enough for what He has done for me. Having been a lover of tobacco for over twenty years, some years ago I tried in my own strenth to quit the filthy habit of smoking; but could not. Hallelujah to God and the Lamb! vain is the strength of man. About seventeen months ago I gave up all for the Lord, and that moment He took away the appetite of tobacco, tea and coffee. Praise the Lord! the blood of Christ cleanseth from all sin. We are out of babylon and all isms. Your Bro. and sister sanctified through the blood of the Lamb. Praise His holy name! Amen!

Dear Brethren: — I am saved in Jesus. Praise His name!

We have just returned from Dushville where we had a good time working for the Lord. While there, one brother was taken sick, and his wife became alarmed and sent for a doctor who pronounced it the congestion of the lungs; he sent for us, we went and talked to him about the Lord’s healing, when his faith took hold and he asked us to anoint him. We did so in the name of the Lord, and the work was done. Praise the Lord, he arose, ate his dinner and went to meeting that night five miles. Jesus says, “These signs shall follow them that believe.” Your sister all the Lord’s.

Dear Brethren: — I started in this good cause about fifteen months ago. I belong to the Church of God now, but when I belonged to the sect I felt afraid to testify for Jesus; but glory to God, I am not ashamed of Him now. I feel like praising God more every day. I am wholly sanctified and wholly consecrated to the Lord. Pray for me. My fight was hard with the devil until I was sanctified, but glory to God, the devil does not bother me now.

Dear Saints: — I do praise God this morning for what I feel in my soul. I have not the fullness of God’s love as I would like to have, but I know if we do our part, God will do His; and by His grace I will press onward and upward. Oh! how the devil does tempt me. I never had such trials and temptations as lately; but praise God for the victory. I do know that God is a very present help in every time of need; and that He does so wonderfully bless and beep us. It is so sweet to trust in Jesus. “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.”

I praise God that He sent Bro. and sister Houghton to our assistance, for we were greatly strengthened and benefited. We learned useful lessons through them, especially the lesson of humility. In James 4:10 it says, “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.” I also praise God that I know by experience that He is able to heal both soul and body, and I am so glad I have taken Him for my Physician. Through prayer and the laying on of hands of Bro. and sister Houghton, the Lord has healed my side which has caused me much trouble for years. The devil tempts me and tries to make me believe that it is not healed, and that it is liable to begin hurting any time. But praise God, I have the victory, it does not hurt, and I know as long as I trust God it will not. God also healed me of a sore mouth which was very bad. Praise God! I neither take medicine nor give it to my family; though they are very sick sometimes, God always heals them; because I ask in faith, and know that I can rely on His promises. Pray earnestly for me that I may become more humble and more pliable in God’s hands. Saved in Jesus.

Beloved Brethren: — May God bless you in all humbleness, and fill you with His power. To-night finds us saved and rejoicing in God our Savior, for His wonderful love to the children of men.

Bro. and sister Houghton of Harper, Kan, lave been with us in a four weeks meeting; the saints are well established in the work of the Lord. Two came out of babylon, others are enquiring the way. The two brethren who came out of babylon are shining lights, and lull of song. They were leading young men, both spiritually and morally, but they are opposed now on all sides. Since the meeting, one sister has ben wonderfully saved, and her daughter is seeking holiness. It is only during the last few weeks that I realize what it is to live according to Hebrews 13:15. I began to have communion with God, and I am trying to get down deep in God. Oh I do want all the fullness of God. I do pray God to make me a power in His hands to rescue souls from hell; how my heart aches for poor blind sinners. We have meeting once a week, prayer and preaching as the Lord directs. I expect to go in the field soon, unless God otherwise orders. I have much envy here on the line of holiness by not being wise in God and on the plan of salvation. I was preaching holiness to professors (sinners) who needed the first work. Paul says, “I have fed you with milk; because ye are not able to bear meat,” “strong meat belong to them who have their senses exercised.” It is surely as important that we feed according to strength now, as when Paul preached. This evening light is wonderful and few are prepared for it. I do want to see people saved from sin.

Now may the God of all peace bless you all, is my prayer. Your Bro. under the blood. Praise God for ever!

Dear Brethren — I feel led by the Spirit to pen my testimony for the TRUMPET. O praise God this morning for salvation, for He has wonderfully saved me out of babylon and placed my feet on the solid Rock Christ Jesus. O praise His name forever and ever. He saves me right now for which I give God all the glory. We are having wonderful good meetings here though babylon howls and closes the door of their tabernacle against us, yet we can praise God in our school houses and at our homes. O I pray God to hasten the time when our neighborhood shall become a praying one and our people come out of babylon and worship God aright. Dear saints pray for myself and brethren for we are surrounded by babylon and satan is working day and night to destroy the true Church of God at this place. There his been one dear soul saved here since Bro. Warner left and others under conviction.

Praise God for what He has done and is still able to do for us. Your Bro. saved and sanctified to God forever and ever.

Albany, Ill.

Dearly Beloved Saints: — I praise God this morning for victory in my soul. O how blessed it is to be in fellowship with Jesus. Praise His holy name for what He has done, and is doing for us; how sweetly He saves and keeps us by His mighty power. O I just feel like taking a good shout over my present experience. Glory Hallelujah, praise the Lord, Amen and Amen.

O how we would like to see your friendly faces once more. May the dear Lord bless you all abundantly with Heavenly wisdom and understanding, and make yon powerful in speaking the awful truth of His Word. Since you left here we have found out more of babylon’s desolations, than ever before. O how destitute of the Spirit; truly they cannot speak of the things they know not; hence it is confusion and error. Some of the priests have preached sermons directly against holiness; they say it is impossible to live in this world without sin, and thus shamefully limit God’s power of salvation.

Praise God, we are where we can enjoy the promised blessing of Matt. 5:11, 12. O it fills my heart with joy to know that we are counted worthy to suffer a little for Jesus’ sake. Dear saints if our religion were not persecuted, it would be worth nothing. But as Jesus suffered without the gate that He might sanctify the people with His own blood; therefore we shall go forth unto Him without the camp, bearing His reproach. But how glorious the promise: if we suffer with Him, we shall also reign with Him; yes reign with Jesus even in this life.

The little ones here are all steadfast in Jesus, praising God for His great deliverance. Your sister saved and sanctified.

Nancy Byers.
