A Prophetic Dream.

-:o:-

I had dream, — a fearful sight
Was spread before me in the night;
And while within that awful hour,
I there beheld God’s mighty power.

Upon a rock I seemed to stand,
While all around was sinking sand:
The Rock was firm, for ages past
Had stood secure through storm and blast.

While gazing on that awful scene,
I felt so calm, and quite serene;
Although alone I seemed to be,
I knew that God would care for me.

It seemed the final end had come,
And all around, had now begun
To melt and boil with fervent heat,
Except the Rock beneath my feet.

The earth it shook, and houses fell,
While all around, it seemed that hell
Had opened wide its awful mouth,
To swallow all, from North to South.

And on that Rock my feet were firm,
I stood secure, from all alarm:
I did not tremble at the sight;
But felt while there that all was right.

The thunders rolled, the earth did quake,
And hills and mountains both did shake:
I saw them reel and tumble in, — 2 Pet. 3:10.
And naught was left but smoke and din.

And now this dream to understand,
You must with Christ join heart and hand;
He who the narrow way hath trod:
For who is a rock save our God? — Psa. 18:31.

Alone with Christ we all must be,
And kept by Him in purity;
Though friends forsake, and prove untrue,
The Lord will keep, and love you too. – Deut 31:6.

HOLY WISDOM.

—:o:—

BEHOLD, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” — Matt. 10:16.

Following our call for workers, in last issue, something is necessary upon the requisite wisdom for the workers. In this above text Christ shows us the importance of two great elements of usefulness. Namely, wisdom and harmlessness. The Lord help us now to urge upon all the great importance of that holy wisdom that cometh from above. O what disastrous work is made in attempts to preach and teach the Word of God without the “gentleness of Christ,” and the “meekness of wisdom.” Some have fallen into a harsh, grating, vindictive spirit of railery. Such cast up, and renounce the corruptions of the present day fallen sects, in a tantalizing manner; and more because of that eccentricity which takes pleasure in making people mad, than from a warm heart of love and concern for the souls that are thereby being ruined. Such hearts become cold, lose the joy of the Lord, chill and repel, more than draw to Christ. Such may he sincere. They see in the Word of God that “the daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor, and it is time to thresh her,” and they think they are doing God’s service by simply easting hailstones, not with “fire mingled with blood.” How often we have none into a community where Bible anti-sect holiness has thus been preached. A few had been convicted by the real truth, and came out of the sect, and all the rest of the country was soured. Prejudice was great, and the Spirit of God could not get at the hearts of the people. Though the truth had saved a few souls, the manner of its presentation had hedged up the way for the salvation of many more. Babylon must be rebuked, and is, by all God’s true prophets, but unless the rebukes be the out, flow of a warm heart of love, and seasoned with much grace, the preacher’s attempted good will only be evil spoken of, and no real good will ensue. The same words may be used by two persons and have different effects. One has a wide and deep knowledge of the ruinous effects of the modern sects, and with a heart bleeding in love for souls there being slaughtered, he speaks out in the awful denunciations that the Spirit of God gives him. Another person, hot feeling the force of the evil, nor possessing the same fervent love for souls, attempts to imitate him, and only stirs up the ill-will of the people. O my brethren, be sure that all you say flows from a heart of love. Whether exhortation to sinners, or correction of religious abuses, whatsoever cometh not of love, is a sounding brass, and a tinkling cymbal, and will do no good. Especially when it comes to threshing Babylon, be sure you are only inspired by love to God, and love for perishing souls, or refrain.

It is not becoming young disciples to make themselves too conspicuous in strong speeches against sectarians. It will not be so readily received as from older saints. Christ did not commission His preachers for the purpose of irritating and making men mad, but to be instruments of salvation”. True, some people will get enraged, when the Word of God is preached in all love and humility; because of their idols. But we should not try to make men mad, but try, in all earnestness to save their souls. The people are indeed left in great darkness, and need our pity, and before we try to demolish their sectish religion, which is all they know, show them something better. Or rather “speak the truth in love,” and that will itself root up error. We know that poor sectarians can scarcely endure the “sincere milk of the Word,” much less meat. Now if you humbly and kindly teach the pure Word, some will get offended, but the effect of their opposition will be to drive more to love the truth. Whereas if you begin to cut and slash at once upon the evils of sect religion, without having patiently taught the people the way of the Lord more perfectly, you create the impression that you are sour, and have nothing better than the persons have you preach against. There is nothing made by trying to make men mad. I repeat this thought, if you, in an humble, loving manner, show the people just what is necessary to constitute salvation, and enter Heaven, and men foam out against it, many will be driven thereby to take the side of truth, and good will be effected. But if you, by railing speeches, get up a mob spirit, what, profit will you have, when buffeted for your faults. Most any graceless fool, can soon “make the devil mad,” and “sectarians howl,” etc. But “the fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.” — Prov. 11:30.

We see in a recent report, where a company of young disciples went out to hold meetings; the first service, one, we fear, having more brass than grace, young in years and a novice in experience, began with a die-course on “false teachers.” What was the effect? Did some hungry soul get light? Was some one led to consecrate? No, it “stirred the devil, and caused him to get very bold.” Better preach salvation, and that will destroy the works of the devil, and bruise him under foot, rather than make him bold. We have lived long enough in this world to find out that men will only credit us with having a better religion than others around us, when they see superior fruits. If they see that you have the real joy of the Lord in your soul, and a deep love for poor lost men, and above all when they see that you are actually used of God to “pull souls out of tire fire,” who are far gone in sin, and wretchedness. When they see wicked men clothed and in their right mind, and now praising God, and kindly feeding their family, who were want to curse and swear and abuse their family, they will acknowledge that God is with you. The best sign of a good store, and that which attracts purchasers more than all lettered boards, and newspaper advertisements is a large display of the goods. For instance, if a person in a city wishes to buy fruit, lie will go straight to that place where he sees the largest profusion of fruit exposed to view.

So the best convincer that we are “the seed whom the Lord hath blessed,” is the actual fruit of salvation, the real deliverance of men from the demon of sin, into the virtues of a holy life. Aim directly at getting men and women saved. When you shall have been used of God in the salvation of souls yourself, you can, with more authority and consistency, reprove sectarians fruitlessness.

“Who is a wise “man and endued with knowledge among you? let him show out of a good conversation his works with meekness and wisdom.” — James 3:13.

“Show your works,” brethren; get souls saved, and they will testify of God’s blessing through your labors, and this will slop the mouths of gainsayers. Especially at new places, where your efforts will be watched, the real virtues of your labors, your practical success in winning souls to God, will decide whether you have anything better to offer than the sects have. Much holy wisdom is needed.

“According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise master-builder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon,” — 1 Cor. 3:10.

“The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that rules among fools. Wisdom is better than weapons of war; but one sinker destroys much good.” — Ecclesiastes 9:17, 18.

“One sinner spoileth much good,” especially if he be a puffed up preacher, and destitute of the wisdom of the Spirit of God, and true humility of heart. One such person will prevent more souls coming to God, than fen holy humble men of God can be the instruments of saving. No reward, or expression of Divine approval is pronounced upon men who simply stir up anger and haired in carnal hearts. But “They that be wise, shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.” — Dan. 12:3.

Thus heavenly wisdom is associated with turning men to righteousness. Therefore, “Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee; love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principle thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” —  Prov. 4:5-7.

“The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom.” — Ps. 37:30. But when men show a lack of the wisdom that “cometh from above,” it is because they lack the real possession, and wisdom, of the Spirit of God. Some think because they feel joy in their graceless onslaughts, which drive men away with disgust, that therefore they are bless of God in the same. But “folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom.” — Pro. 15:21. So self-conceited folly may gel happy over a harangue that God is not in, and its effects are rather evil than good. Christ says, “I will give you a mouth, and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.” — Luke 21:15. Some people seem to have plenty of month, but little, or no wisdom. A mouth and wisdom should go together. Better have less mouth and more wisdom than the reverse.

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” — Col. 3:16.

“Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.” — Col. 4:5, 6.

O how important these directions! The word of Christ is what all workers need to be filled with. Sectarians generally, cannot endure sound doctrine, even the Word of God, but when the pure Word is given to the people in the Spirit of God, no harm will result. But when even the Word is given in the spirit of railery, and still more when -men employ coarse, and abusive speeches of their own. not given by the Spirit, the effect is chilling and repelling. O for wisdom toward them that are without, and our speech seasoned with salt, – the Spirit of God. No other wisdom is sufficient but that of the Spirit of God. And now, dearly beloved, learn this one thing, that the Spirit of God never uses coarse, unseemly speeches and comparisons. Such as are repulsive to good manners. Thus it is recorded of Paul and Barnabas, “And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed,” — Acts 14:1.

Here is a hint of the wisdom the Spirit of God gives the true saints. The apostles had both Jews and Gentiles before them, a vast contrariety of: minds. What wisdom was necessary for the occasion. What would tend to capture one class, would naturally repel the other. But they “so spake that, a great multitude, both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.”

Now had they spoke most any other way, or selected any other subject for that occasion, the results would have been different. The Lord help ail the saints to consider this Holy Spirit wisdom. For Jesus sake do not presume to blunder out whatever the spirit of wit and conceit may suggest to your minds. Oh, do, for God’s sake, get your souls filled with love and pity for the lost, and especially with humbleness of mind and much heavenly wisdom. “But be it so, I did not, burden you: nevertheless, being crafty, I caught you with guile.” — 2 Cor. 12:16.

This guile was nothing but holy prudence, and discretion in the presentation of the Word. The careful consideration of the state of the congregation, and the presentation of just that part of Divine truth that would draw the greatest number to Christ. Take heed how any one takes the liberty to pour out a lot of vinegar, just because you think it smart, whereas, if you would hold the minds of the people to the love of Christ, and the “beauties of holiness,” some souls might be saved, in stead of many soured. Keep to the point of the salvation of souls. And whenever you see and feel that the rebuking of Babylon is necessary to the salvation of souls, and the Spirit puts it upon you, God will bless the same with good results. But to east up her mire, and stir up her foul spirits just, because we can, is not wisdom. In most places Babylon is destitute of any thing but chaff, and surely no person can thresh any wheat out of her, hence it does not pay to keep flailing her. In everyplace the vials of God’s wrath must be poured out upon her. But there comes a time when God is glorified in utterly ignoring her. The saints should then preach and proceed just as if she were not at all. Keep to the positive Gospel of salvation. Be witnesses of the mighty power of God, and extol the virtues of the precious blood of Christ. Let the special business of all workers bo to have their own souls abound in the glory of God, and labor to advance all others in the sublime life of God. There should be much praying to properly live in the Spirit. If two or more brethren meet, it were far better to seriously enquire into each-other’s case, and spend some time in prayer to God for a greater measure of meekness, love, and power, than consume the precious moments rehearsing the well-known fact that Babylon is fallen, and become a habitation of devils.

This article is designed more especially for young workers, and upon new territories. You should pray much for the wisdom that cometh from above. Manifest much patience in teaching the true way of the Lord, before dealing out the sharp rebukes of the Word upon the false and deceptive ways of error. This is a good motto, “HE THAT WINNETH SOULS IS WISE.”

But even the “sons of Sceva” — “vagabond Jews, exorcists,” could “stir the devil,” and get, a good flogging for it. So to report souls turned to righteousness is a far better indication that ye are of God than simply, the report that the “devil was stirred.” etc. O may God make you fishers of men. Amen!

WE ARE SAVED TOGETHER.

-:o:-

DEARLY beloved, we feel led of the Lord to write a few lines to the dear Trumpet. Glory be to our God! We are saved to the uttermost this morning. Hallelujah to Jesus! we are reigning in life by one Jesus Christ, for we have received the abundance of grace, and of the gift of righteousness. — Rom. 5:17.

Praise the Lord, dearly beloved, “We are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow-citizens with the saints, and of the household of God, And are built upon the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone, in whom the whole building (Church.) fitly framed together grows unto an holy temple in the Lord.” Hallelujah! Dear saints, our God has a wonderful process of bringing in; “together.”

We understand together, to mean, not apart. And the work is begun by getting us together, in one. — Jno. 11:52. How does He do this? By His angels, ministers. — Mark 13:27. And then shall He send His angels, and shall gather together His elect from the four winds, from the uttermost parts of the earth to the uttermost part of Heaven.” In what one? Eph. 1:10. Paul says that in the dispensation of the fullness of times, he might gather together in one, all things in Christ, &c, even in Him.

Again, “We are quickened together with Christ, &c. — Eph. 2:5. And you being dead in your sins, and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath He quickened together with Him, having forgiven you all your trespasses. — Col. 2:13.

How does He begin the gathering together? By quickening us who were dead in our sins. At what point of time are we quickened? When He forgives all of our trespasses. Praise the Lord! After this is done, let us see what He does next. And hath raised us up together. Hallelujah! And made us sit together in Heavenly places in Christ Jesus — Eph. 2:6.

In whom the whole building fitly framed together, groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord, in whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. — Eph. 2:21, 22. From whom the whole Body, filly joined together, and compacted by the effectual working, etc, Eph. 4:16. How joined? Now I beseech you brethren by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no division among you; but, that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind, (we have the mind of Christ,) and the same judgment. Glory be to God! That their hearts might, be comforted, being knit together in love, and all riches of the full assurance of understanding, etc. — Col. 2:2, 19.

Hallelujah to God! Beloved, this is why nothing can separate us. The devil can’t unravel a single stitch: let us see how effectual this knitting is. Paul says “For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor power, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” — Rom. 8:38, 39. Why? Because we are tempered together. “For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body (the Church) together, having given more abundant honor to that part which lacked, that there should be no schism (division in the body, (all this is done that, there should be no division in the body of Christ, Church of God) but that the members should have the same care one for another.” — 1 Cor. 12:24, 25. Thus gathered together, we become laborers together, for we are laborers together with God; ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building. —  1 Cor. 3:9. We then as workers together with Him beseech you that ye receive not the grace of God in vain. — 2 Cor. 6:1.

Glory be to God! Dear ones, this brings us to the apostolic track. “And they were forth and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the Word with signs following, Amen. — Mark 16:29. Only let your conversation be as becometh the Gospel of Christ; that whether we come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one Spirit, with one mind, striving together, (not apart) for the faith of the Gospel.” — Phil. 1:27. Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together as the manner of same is, but exhorting one-another, and so much the more as ye see the day approaching. — Heb. 10:25. How?

1st. “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there am I to in the midst of them.” — Matt. 18:20.

2nd. With one accord: “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. — Acts 3:1, 5, 12.

3rd. Each one has an active part when assembled together. See 1 Cor. 14:26-33.

4th. If thus assembled together the result will be, — “And when they had prayed the place was shaken where they were assembled together, and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the Word of God with boldness.” — Acts 4:31.

Glory be to Jesus! This gathering together will terminate in the last day. “Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with Him in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” — Thess. 4:37. Praise the Lord! Your free brother.

WE MILL GO AND RESCUE THE PERISHING SOULS.

—:o:—

DEAR brethren in Christ; in much love the Spirit has burdened my mind for some time to write a message to you, The burden of the Lord to my soul. While reading Bro. Warner’s article in the Trumpet, “To the rescue of lost souls,” I felt the weight of the subject myself. He warns the dear brethren about the work this winter, which is good and timely. The query then came to my mind, how near are we to the primitive Apostolic Church? Paul says, “But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by His grace, to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the heathen: immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood.” — Gal. 1:16.

Oh well! some say, Paul was an old bachelor, and had no family to look after. Very true; but God’s callings are unmistakably true. He says, “My grace is sufficient for you.” “First seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” Glory to God! His Word is true. Paul, “I believe God.” Acts 27:25. “For I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able, to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day.” — 3 Tim. 1:32. Do we really know God, and believe Him? if so, this word is true unto us. Brother Warner warns against spending the winter in our warm rooms, while souls are going down to hell. I hope we may heed it. May God help in this glorious work of saving souls. This is only a part of the Church: let us look at the other. “But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, &c. 1 Tim. 3:15.

God’s Word is our guide. How did the Apostolic Church proceed, is for us to inquire, that we may become examples, even as we have them for examples. They that gladly received the Word were baptized. And they continued steadfast in the Apostle’s doctrine, &c. And all that believed were together, and had all things common. — Acts 2:43-47. And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul; neither said any of them that aught of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

And with great power gave the Apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. Neither was there any among them that lacked. — Acts 4:32-37.

If the man called to preach is to come up to the Bible consecration to be in the will and order of the Lord, how can any member of the Church come short of this standard? Let there be a search, for these are perilous times. It is no wonder there is so much leanness in the Church of God, because all the tithes are not brought into the store house of the Lord, that there might be meat. Too much robbing God. “If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, and any of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled: notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; whas doth it profit?” “Even so, faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone — James 2:16-17. “But whoso hath this world’s goods, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?” — John 3:17.

I heard of a holiness man with a few hundred acres of land, talking to a preachers wife, (who had gone laboring in the cause of God without abundance) I would not leave my family without providing better for them; but gave no assistance. While the preacher to all the will of God, spends his time for the work of God, and deprives himself of home comforts and associations, the other members of the Church should consecrate to call nothing their own, but the Lord’s, entrusted to them for the glory of God.

But, “let him that is taught in word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.” — Gal. 6:6. “it hath pleased them verily: and their debtors they are. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, their duly is also to minister unto them in carnal things.” — Rom. 15:27.

If we have sown unto you Spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal filings? — 1 Cor. 9:11. “Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the Gospel should live of the Gospel.” — 14.

I hope while the Elder goes out to rescue the perishing souls and to spread the glorious evening light, that those who are not called to leave their family and home, will not shut up their bowels of compassion, but read the 6th chapter of Ezra, and 8th verse. The decree that shall be done for the Elders, that forthwith expenses be given unto them, that they be not hindered. The reason such power attended the apostolic Church was because they had all things common, everything consecrated to God. Last winter the holiness people frequently discouraged us for going in the storm to hold meetings, without overcoat, chilled through often, and they sitting at home in their cozy rooms, without rendering assistance; but glory be to God! I am ready for another such a winter if God wills, for the salvation of perishing souls. Hold up the hands of those that go to the battle. All glory to Jesus our Savior!

Your brother, sanctified by the blood of the Everlasting Covenant. Pray for us, we are alone, others have gone into sectism by acknowledging a human leader; but I am saved from sectism.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

—:o:—

Table Rock Neb.. Nov. 17. We had a very pleasant visit of three days with my sister, Mrs. L. W. Guiss and family near Marysville, Marshall Co, Kan. Preached three times in a hall in that place. Visited some good meaning families in the country, one sick man was apparently blessed. Found some clever sinners in Marysville. But generally speaking, the place is located for down the siopo3 of hell, sin cursed and God forsaken.

All praise and glory to God for the victory here at Table Rock achieved in the name of the Lord. Dear Bro. and sister Carmichael and family emigrated from Pa. to this place a few years ago, they began to testify the salvation of the Lord, and pray God to raise up a holy people here. Dear Bro. Haner came and held a meeting in the school-house three miles in the country. And again last spring held a tabernacle meeting here at the village. Praise God! a few souls were saved out of sin and babylon, and we found them in the Spirit, with a good relish for the Word of the Lord. It had been quite cold before we arrived here, but from that tune the weather has been warm and pleasant. The saints had no place to hold meetings, but a tabernacle, and the Lord graciously favored us with good weather. Here, as every where else, we found sect gog and magog arrayed against the saints and the work of real salvation. The M. E. priest of baal early began a protracted meeting, as we were a long time expected, he continued until the night after we closed in the tabernacle. They claimed about fifty converts, nearly all children, and doubtless not one converted to God. The preacher himself unconverted to God, a Masonic worshiper of Baal, as Masonic writings confess that their craft is based on ancient sun worship, which was Baal religion. He also confessed that he is a member of about a half dozen secret lodges. Yet this whited Sepulcher professes sanctification, and while urging a sinner to join his sect, he confessed that he was a sinner himself. O the depth of babylon confusion. One dear young brother who had been drawn into his probation net, tore out of the abominable snare, came to God, and was converted and sanctified.

The Presbyterian priest was imprudent enough to visit a sister who had been converted in the tabernacle, and disgorged a vile mess of unscrupulous lies and slanders against us, to overthrow the poor soul. The Lord reward his evil deeds. O how sorrowful and pitiable it is to see poor sect devotees trying to build up their idolatrous sect at the expense of immortal souls. The priest came to the tabernacle and stood outside, afraid to enter lest the Word of God would expose his rottenness before the people, and yet compelled out of curiousity to hear, so that he will have no excuse in the day of judgment. God says, “they shall drink it.” Many poor souls were converted, and praise God about a dozen consecrated to God. Some were converted and sanctified, and several made their escape out of burned over babylon. Nino dear saints were buried with Christ by baptism. Among whom were dear Bro. and Sister Carmichael’s daughters, Minnie, Rena, who had been converted the night before in a glorious meeting in their house. O praise God! for the glorious deliverance of those two girls, who were beginning to be carried by the whirlpool of this proud wicked world, toward eternal destruction. What joy in the hearts of those parents, and in the courts of Heaven to see the dear blood bought souls take a firm stand for the Lord. O how our heart rejoiced to find dear Bro. Willie C. standing firmly in the Lord. He was converted during a camp meeting in Pa. over three years ago, then twelve years old, and the Lord has kept him. Praise His name! The Lord has raised up a glorious little Church here of about twenty children of God. Last night we had a precious ordinance meeting, twenty-seven souls obeyed our holy “Commander and Leader,” and were much blessed. One dear father had been a Methodist fifty years, but testified that he had learned more real Gospel of God in a few meetings than in all his life. Praise God for his deliverance. A few were anointed, and healed by the power of God.

Having been invited o the town of Humboldt several miles eas , we went over last Sabbath, and preached three discourses to very attentive and largo congregations, especially in the evening the large audience room was filled completely.

A dozen or more raised their hands for prayers. And the persons having control of the fine meeting house wished us to remain and hold a protracted effort, and urgently desired us to return; which we may do, if the Lord willing, after our visit to Denver. Tomorrow we go to Waco York Co. Neb. All well and saved and having complete victory in our souls Praise the Lord! Let all saints continue to pray for us, and the great work.

Nov. 18. This is the parting day. O our hearts twine about the dear kind saints here. This morning in family worship at dear Bro. Stover’s, the dear Lord came so marvelously in our midst, that all our hearts were melted together in the fire of divine love. O praise God for His great goodness. Dear Bro. Jefferson Stover and wife, Who had not been hero during the meetings, were moved in family worship to give their hearts to God. Praise God, it was a time of great joy in that home and in Heaven. They make four of the family that have been saved since coming here. One only son at home, remains out of the kingdom of grace. O how our hearts were drawn out in love and sympathy for his deliverance from the awful bondage of sin. His hard heart was touched with conviction bathe would not tear loose from his awful adversary the devil. O that God may win Ins heart by His dying love.

Melrose, O.

After the meeting at Portland Ind., during which a few souls were saved, we returned to Randolph Co., and after spending a few days with the brethren at that place, we took train for Payne, Ohio, Oct. 20th. We got on our way us far as Latty O., and after learning that we could not take train for Payne till after night, we concluded to walk as far as Briceton, a place about two miles distant. And so we did, and upon our arrival, we met with dear sister Christy, a late emigrant from Darke Co. O. O how it fills our souls with joy to meet with God’s dear children, After conversing with her a short time, we entered a store to wait for the train, with the praises of God in our mouths, while the devil was howling on every side. We waited for some time, and continued to praise the Lord, when suddenly the praises we uttered were responded to by a hearty amen: in another part of the house. We turned our eyes toward the person, and asked him if he was saved. He answered in the affirmative, with the high praises of God in his mouth. Hallelujah to God for ever and ever! We needed no further evidence to know he was a child of God. Glory to God! “We are living epistles read and known of all men,” not by the style of clothes we wear, but by our fruits.

We saluted him as a brother in Christ, when we heard another amen, in another part of the room. We turned to see whence it came, and behold, a sister. After conversing with them, we found them to be brother and sister Shank, who also were waiting for the train. Ere long the train arrived, which we boarded, and came into Payne about nine o’clock at night, where we were met by Bro. Charles Parmenter who directed us to Bro. John Kilpatrick’s, where the saints were holding meeting. Here we were met with a welcome greeting by all the brethren in the house. We remained in Payne and vicinity about nine days, holding meeting every night, and twice in the day time. We had not been there long before God showed us that some of the brethren there had left their first love. We told them what the Lord had shown us, and advised them all to prayerfully examine themselves, and see whether they stood perpendicularly on the Rock or not. This they did, and some of them found that they came short in some things. Well, glory to God! most of those that saw their deficiency were honest hearted, and immediately consecrated, and had all lame parts healed. When God’s fanning mill was once more set in operation at that place, the salvation of souls began. One backslider was reclaimed, and three souls escaped from babylon, two from the M.R. pride shop, and one from the clutches of Roman Catholicism, Hallelujah to out God! Babylon trembles for fear of her loss. There were in all about 18 consecrations at Payne.

Bro. Whitcraft attended the meeting and he thought it the will of God that we should give them a call before we left those parts. We felt led so to do, and we went from Payne to his place near Dixon Van Wert. Go. O., Oct. 31st. and held few days meeting in the name of the Lord, during which time four precious souls were wonderfully saved in Jesus. From there we returned to Payne, where we held meeting one night, and then look train for Briceton, Nov. 5th, where we held two meetings which resulted in the reclaiming of one backslider, and the sanctification of one soul who had previously been converted. From there we took train for Latty, where we tarried three nights holding meeting. Thence to a place near Melrose O., where we are now holding meetings with the dear saints of the Lord.

Your brother, saved, and in the field with sword in hand, ready to cut down any thing the Master shall command to be slain. Praise the Lord!

Dear Brethren: – May God bless you, and all the dear saints, for Jesus’ sake. O hallelujah! my soul is on fire with the power and glory of God. I feel so blessedly, and sweetly saved from all sin this morning. I am still moving out in the will and order of God, with the eternal victory in my soul. May you all be preserved in the grace of God from the pow-

er of satan. O my brethren, these are trying times: we are having quite a shaking time here, many who are dear to my heart are going back, and denying their Lord. Since we had Camp-meeting here there has been a terrible quaking, many have gone back; they would not obey God, and they could not stand in the congregation of the righteous. Bro. John H. Orr, his wife and son, once blessedly saved, have gone back. They have even left these parts, and gone to Illinois. Bro. Orr said he was going to join the Free Methodist sect, and intended to preach for money. It was like death to give them up. Then there is another one here who was ordained Elder, who was married only a few months ago, who from that time has been going back. God was calling him out into the work, and he would not go. God laid His hand upon Mm and brought him down to death’s door. They sent for me. I came, and he realized that it was because of disobedience that he was thus chastised. Then he promised God if He would only spare his life he would go and preach the Gospel. So God wonderfully blessed him, and raised him up. Then God called for him, but he would not go; so God laid his hand upon his wife and she was brought very low. Now they are in debt for doctor’s bills more than they can make in a year, so he has not made anything. He said he had to support his wife, and must work. He has gone to using tobacco again. O my dear ones! it is always best to obey God.

I want to say a few words to those who are not married. Be careful that the devil does not cause you to fall into the same snare. O the subtle foe of hell! Thus he has overthrown many a precious soul.

Hallelujah! By the grace of God we are going through on the straight Bible line. The Bride of Christ must be without spot or blemish, or any such thing; and anyone who will not measure up to the standard, cannot be a part of the Bride of Jesus. O dear ones, be true to God at any cost, obey God, for obedience is better than sacrifice.

Dear saints of God, pray for us here, and for those who have turned away from the truth. O may God bring them back!

My last report was from Leavenworth. Meeting closed on the night of the 6th, and on the 7th Bro. Warren and his son consecrated themselves to God, and were sanctified, and by the laying bn of hands, they were healed. On the 8th we started south for home. Two days travel brought me to Wellsville, Franklin Go., where I stopped and preached to the Church 5 times. We had ordinance meeting, and during the services one dear soul consecrated and was gloriously sanctified. From there two day’s drive brought me to Westphalia, Anderson Co., where we preached to the Church twice. One clay’s drive brought us to Humboldt, where we preached once, had a glorious meeting: one consecrated, and was sanctified. Ordained one Eider. There are some who wish to be baptized. The Lord willing, we will return the 27th, and administer the sacred ordinance of baptism, and at night have feet-washing and the Lord’s supper. One more there to be ordained. God bless them, and may they be true to God.

Thank God we are at home once more. Family all well. Hallelujah! Yesterday we met together at brother Shepard’s, South-west of Earlton, had a glorious meeting. On our way home we met a man from the Austin School-house, who wanted us to come and hold meeting. I was there one year ago, and they wickedly closed the door against us; but now they want us to come back. The Lord willing; we shall commence meeting the 23rd. Dear saints pray for us, that the Word of God may have its desired effect upon the hearts of the people, that, many souls may be saved.

We expect soon to go to Carthage Mo., to preach the awful Word of God to the people, without any compromise. Truly the harvest is great, but the laborers are few. May God send more laborers into the harvest, I pray God to send some one to Urbana to hold meeting. “A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country.” O Lord, send some fire-baptized soul, full of the Holy Ghost, to warn the people of their sins. Any one who is led, will find a welcome at brother M. New- burn’s, three miles North of Urbana, and three miles East of Earlton. This is a good field, many places open for work.

Praise God for the article in the last Trumpet on the “Rise of Sectarianism,” by Bro. Palmer. It was wonderful. Hallelujah! Thank God for a few who will stand true, and cry aloud, and spare not. God bless them. All remember me in your sprayers. I am wonderfully saved, sanctified wholly, preserved in Jesus, and sealed by the Holy Spirit, built in the Church of the First-born.

Dear Brethren: — This morning we are praising God for His wonderful salvation. Hallelujah to Jesus! We have complete victory in our souls over all the powers of bell. Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through Jesus Christ our Lord. Praise God forever! We came to this place and commenced meeting Saturday night, in a German U. B. sect house, in the name of king Jesus. Hallelujah! But those modern pharisees proved themselves to be trucebreakers, like their ancient brethren, by turning the key on us and refusing to let us have tire house alter the second service, after promising us the house. O glory to Jesus! We are continuing the meeting in. brother Fosnight’s house, and there is good interest. Praise God! He gives us complete victory in every meeting. Last night three raised their hands for prayers, two declared publicly their intention to have a more definite experience. Glory be to Jesus, the work goes on in spite of the devil and all sectarians, and we expect to see souls saved here before we leave. We go from here to Darke Go. Ohio, will hold one or two meetings there, and then go to Jay Co. Ind., near West Chester, and will have meeting somewhere, believing God will open a door for us in that place. Let all the dear saints pray for us, that we may ever be led of the Lord. Glory to Jesus! We are on the blood and fire line, knowing no compromise with sin. Your brother and sister, saved and sanctified just now.

On the evening of Nov. 11 we begun meeting in Lee on the farm of our dear Bro. and sister Smith. This Bro. and sister were saved out of the M. E’s. a little over three years ago, and since that time he saw fit to build an addition to a vacant house that was on his farm and made quite a good meeting house out of it. From the beginning of the meeting till the close the Lord was with us in power, both in preaching and in laboring with souls that came to the Altar either for pardon or sanctification. The meeting lasted thirteen days during which time twentyone came to the altar for pardon and seventeen for sanctification. The attention of the people was so perfect through the entire meeting that we had to speak but once to them in the way of preserving order. In the near future we hope to see those give, their hearts to God and be saved who were under conviction during the meeting. We are now at our dear Bro. R. Johnson’s four miles northeast of Grand Junction. We began meeting here Nov. 21 and will continue as long as the Lord wills.

Your Bro’s in the Body of Christ sanctified wholly.

We are praising God this evening for salvation full and free. We are working for the Lord here in this place and He is with us in the meetings in power. We came to this place about ten weeks ago and commenced meeting in the name of the Lord. Some was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost, and the Lord having led a Bro. out of the M. E. sect, and filled him with the Holy Ghost, chose him as Elder, and the Lord is wonderfully using him to His glory. Our prayer is that the Lord may keep him humble. We came back here a few days ago and commenced meeting in the name of the Lord Jesus, and souls are being convicted and saved and delivered from babylon. Some yet need more salvation that the body of sin might be destroyed. We pray God that they may place themselves on the sanctifying Altar. The sect devil is using his angels to try to stop the work of God by commencing to hold opposition meeting; but glory to Jesus He is confounding them, and the people are getting disgusted with their works. It is present truth that the fullness of the Gentiles is come in and Jerusalem is being built up. God’s angels are flying in the midst of heaven, the Church, on Nahum’s Chariots, having the golden reed, the Word of God, measuring the City, the Church, the New Jerusalem. Professor do you measure up to the reed? If not, plunge in the fountain; exchange your babylonian garment for the garment of while linen or entire cleansing from all sin. Bless God the gates of Heaven were opened here last night. So we can see by the Holy Ghost that is given unto us, that the fullness of the Gentiles be come in and the spiritual Jews are coining from babylon captivity, and are precious stones in the New Jerusalem, the Church of the Firstborn which are writen in Heaven. Oh you Gentile sinners take warning and do not turn away from God’s spirit when He knocks at the door of your heart, but, open the door and let the dear Savior come in. O praise God for the Holy Spirit which shall teach you all things: for since we have come here we have been shown this Scripture so plain. Those that reject this evening light, darkness is settling down on them as it did the Jews for disobeying God. We have seen men and women go out from the light and become perverse with evil spirits. Let us read the 11th Chapter of Romans with care.

Bear Brethren: — I praise the Lord for full salvation. We had an ordinance meeting at this place over last Lord’s day. The enemy of our souls tried hard to divide the saints, but the Lord guarded the flock. Oh glory to Jesus our blessed redeemer who is so wonderfully leading His own. We had a wonderful meeting in the evening in following the Lord in washing eachothers feet and taking the Lord’s supper. O how blessed it is to obey His commands. O could those poor deluded opposers only know the glory the Lord poured out on the little ones. O what a heart searching time it was; and when all things were removed by the blessed Holy Spirit, and the truth acknowledged, what glory came upon the little ones. Then all knew that the Church was in order to partake of the emblems representing the Lord’s Body. Dear saints always tarry until you have the victory over every thing before communing, then you will realize the blessedness. Yours in Christ Jesus.

Bear Brethren: – I feel like adding my testimony for the glory of God. I have obtained full salvation, the Lord saves me from all sin; and keeps me through the blood of the Everlasting Covenant. O it is glorious to walk in the blessed evening light. The darkness is past, and the true light now shines in my soul. The sectarians have tried every device given them by satan to overthrow our faith; but Christ still shines in this earthen temple, and my heart stands in awe of the Word, so pure and holy. O that all might be partakers of its holiness. O how much we do need the straight Word of God preached in this place. We have the privilege of attending meeting nearly every Sabbath, and some times through, the week; but the preaching is so mixed up with everything, and so little of the pure Word of God, that it does but little good. And it is not alone among the sects that we find this impurity existing, but also among professors, or rather pretenders of holiness. And those too, who proclaim that, they are called of God to go and preach His awful Word to man. There are some few however, who do stand firm and unshaken in all the true principles and doctrines of Christ Jesus, although through much persecutions and trials; while there are those pretenders to holiness, who, seemingly are the genuine offspring of the ancient Pharisees and Sadducees, who apparently forget the woes pronounced against such. The Word of God plainly teaches that there is no salvation for the children of men, without a perfect fulfillment of all its righteous demands, by the principle of faith. If any one therefore pretends to believe in Jesus, to love His name and enjoy sweet communion with Him, who does not, pay an habitual regard to His commandments, he is a liar, and the truth is not in him; for our Lord says, If a man love me he will keep my words. That is not love, which is not productive of obedience, nor. is that worthy the name of obedience, which springs not from love. Pretention to love without obedience, is glaring hypocrisy, and obedience without love is slavery. No obedience is acceptable to God but that which springs from a principle of love for Him, and is done With a view to His glory. True Gospel obedience is the fruit of the faith of forgiveness. Whatever is done without it, is hut a building without a foundation. This grace teaches us to deny, to renounce all ungodliness; not only outward abominations, but worldly lusts also — every vicious inclination, and every irregular desire. It teaches us to live soberly with regard to ourselves, righteously toward our neighbors, and godly toward our Creator.

I feel led by the Holy Spirit to tell the readers of the Trumpet what the Lord has done for me. Companion and I gave the parting hand to the dear brethren and sisters at Pittsville Pa., April 4th, and arrived at Peone, (our present borne) on the 18th. It has been the will of God that I should not be permitted to meet with His blood-washed saints since; but praise His name, He has been with me every day and hour, and I am trusting fully in Him. He keeps me free from all sin and unrighteousness, and I give him all the glory. I am out on the non-compromising Bible line, teaching God’s true word with all the power He gives me. But satan’s preachers have the people’s eyes so blinded with their false doctrine that they cannot see the blessed light of the Gospel. I pray God to send more laborers into the vineyard.

There are a great many exalted sectarian hills and mountains in this country to be burned over, and my prayer is that He will send some of His Ministers to help us spread the fire of His Word.

We live 15 miles from Spokane Falls on the N. P. R. R. If any of the saints think of coming West to settle, I would say to them, I know of no better place to come to get homes, as there is plenty of unoccupied Government lands yet to be bad. Come and labor with us for the salvation of souls until you find homes.

Pray for me, and pray also for my companion, who is unconverted. Your saved brother.

Orchard Grove, Lake Co. Ind.

Dear Brethren: — This Sabbath evening, God helping me, I will try to tell the saints what my soul needs. I am hungering and thirsting for full salvation. I was once in the blessed experience of holiness, but lost it by disobedience. How I long to be wholly His again, soul, body, and spirit. Please pray for me that I may come off conquerer through Him that loved us. Also for my neighbors, that they may be saved. There is no one here that ever experienced entire sanctification but myself.

I am longing, hoping, and praying that the Lord will send some one or more of His holy anointed ones here, filled with the Holy Spirit and power. We live in the country. There are precious souls to save. Your sister longing to be free in Jesus.

Nettie Henderson.

NOTE.

The Lord bless sister Henderson. O make the complete consecration without delay. Be willing to suffer with Christ Jesus, that you may live and reign with Him upon the glorious plain of His peace and holiness. As He died unto sin once, and now liveth to God, so likewise reckon also yourself to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God. — Rom. 6:

Here is a door open for the Gospel of God. Dear Brethren who can respond to this call, Orchard Grove is in the south part of Lake Co. which is the northwest corner Co. of Ind.. That place, and Stark Co. Ind. should be worked up this winter. We found last spring a great field open southward from Grovertown. O Lord send out thy light and truth, and break the long famine among the people.

Burbank, O.

Dear Brethren: — I send greeting to you all in the name of Jesus. I am saved and kept by the power of God, ready to be revealed in these perilous times. I think there never was a time when there was so much sham work, called religion, in the so called churches as there is at the present time. Men and women professing to he followers of the Lord, who arc following the world with all its fashions, and abominations, tell us they expect to get to Heaven. O I tell you they are deceived, and will wake up in an awful hell. O God! have mercy on them, is my prayer.

Dear Brethren: — Enclosed find one dollar to renew our subscription for the Trumpet. It is a welcome visitor at our house, we could not get along without in; for in it we find precious food for our souls, which comes from the ministers and children of the Living God, backed up by the Word. O how they strengthen us in these perilous times. You have our prayers by day and by night. May the work hasten on until it circumscribes the nations, and all the wheat be gathered in. We just rejoice continually in the Living God, who makes us able to stand amid all the strife and contention of this life. Dear saints let us prove faithful to God, be active and diligent in the work, that precious souls maybe saved. Your Bro. and sister discerning the Lord’s Body.

OBYTUARY.

—:o:—

Sister Lydia J. Ayers wife of A. Ayers died Sept. 7th 1S87, aged 20 yrs. 9 mo. and 8 days. Sister Ayers died in the triumph of a living faith. She bore her afflictions with patience and spake many times of her desire to depart and he with Christ. On the night of her death she woke out of a trance and said to sister Howard, “Who was that came to the door and asked me to come in?” Sister Howard knowing that she had seen paradise in a vision, told her that it was the Angel, and asked how it looked there. She whispered, O so glorious, and said, Can’t you come in too. And soon the spirit took its flight. The deceased was a sister of dear Bro. J. N. Howard who is a minister of the Gospel. She leaves a husband and a little daughter of three years, and many relatives and friends to mourn their loss. The funeral services were conducted at father Howard’s house by the writer. Text, Eccl. — 12:13.

W. L. Kilpatrick.

Lydia thou art now at rest,
Thy sufferings now are o’er;
Thy pleading voice and last request
On earth we’ll hear no more.

With Christ in glory now you feign,
Far, far above the sky:
Reign on dear sister sweetly reign,
We’ll meet you by and by.

We loved you dearly sister dear,
But Jesus loves you too;
Submissive to His will we are,
’Tis better far for you.

Dedicated to our dear sister by the author.

GETHSEMANE.

-:o:-

And being in an agony He prayed more earnestly: and His sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground — Luke 22:44.

Beloved, what caused this agony, this awful suffering of our dear Savior? O He bore the sins of the whole world, burdened for poor lost fallen man, suffered until He sweat great drops of blood. O how I long to hear a few sermons preached on the sufferings of Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane, and the cross It seems to me that sinners would melt down and get saved. I have heard a great many good sermons on the true Church and babylon etc, but how I do long to hear more about the love and sufferings of Jesus. Yes Jesus, and Him crucified for the sake of poor lost sinners. O it does seem that God’s little ones do not get into the garden of Gethsemane enough. Sometimes it seems like there is too much rejoicing, and not enough weeping. We do have much to rejoice over to think that. Jesus has saved our souls. Then when we stop and take a solemn look, we have much, yea, very much to weep over. Our hearts should be burdened for lost souls. When satan is devouring so many precious souls, Oh! it makes my heart heavy with sorrow, and my eyes flow with tears. Then my heart cries out, O that some fire-baptized soul would come and tell these souls all about, the dear Savior in the garden, and of the sufferings upon the cross, the pierced hands and feet of one so innocent, and the blood that was shed to wash away our sins and give us eternal rest.

O the blood, the precious blood,
So freely shed for me:
That, on the cross in crimson tide
Just now by faith I see.

There is a great, deal of preaching on almost every subject, more than Jesus crucified. which is the main tiling; for without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins, and that is the first thing to preach to sinners. Praise God for the precious blood, for it cleanses from everything that is not of God. I was first justified then sane rifled, then wonderfully led out of babylon. and saved from it by the mighty hand of God, and I did not know anything then about the true Church, but God knew how to deliver my soul out of all of the devil’s traps. The Lord led me to have my name taken off of the sect book right amidst opposition and persecution.

Praise God for deliverance from sectarianism, and all other sins. Glory to His name forever! When I see poor souls stirred up so with the sect spirit, 0 how my heart does pity such souls. If we could just get them to see Jesus suffering, bleeding and dying for their souls, to give them rest and peace, and eternal life, get them saved through the blood, then the sectish spirit will be gone. O let us preach Jesus and Him crucified, then when they get saved, a sermon, on the true Church and babylon will do their souls good, and they will be able to receive it. I praise God for hearing full and free salvation preached, for my soul was thirsting for it. And I praise God for helping me to make full consecration, and sanctifying my soul. Then I praise His holy name for leading me out of babylon, and afterward I heard the true Church ret forth in all its purity, and oneness, which done my soul good. For it was the blessed way of Jesus, and I do praise Him for the narrow way.

I feet led to write on this subject because I have heard so many sermons even by saved souls, and good sermons, baton almost every, subject, except the sufferings of Christ. Same get so stirred over the awful, miserable deceivings of sectism that they preach on that, more, than any other subject. When if they would show poor lost souls the agony and sufferings of Jesus, many would get saved in stead of getting angry. Therefore let us be wise as serpents, and harmless as doves, holding Jesus up before the world with all His love agony, sufferings, and cruel death.

O now I see the crimson wave,
That fountain deep and wide;
Jesus, my Lord mighty to save,
Points to His wounded side.

Jesus is a satisfying portion. When a soul gets wonderfully saved from sin, purified, filled with the blessed perfect love of God, there is no room for sect spirit. If one is in the sect they are willing to receive the light and come out, when shown the the Word of God.

O let us show poor shiners the laving, suffering Savior. A great many preach one or two sermons on holiness, and the people get interested, then about the third sermon they begin on sectarianism and old babylon. When sectarians get stirred over their sect idol satan takes advantage right there, and gets them to leave the meeting with prejudice, never to return. But I honestly believe if they had heard more about the love of Jesus, they would gat saved, many of them. Then we often hear the remark that the devil got stirred, with lightness of speech, instead of being sorry for their poor souls, that the devil is dragging down to an endless hell. Oh let us rescue the perishing.

When I first heard the second work of grace preached I was in the U. B. sect. The most of us received it gladly, and saw that it was Bible, and that it was what our poor souls had been thirsting for. Then God wonderfully led nine of us to come out of her, and be separate. It would take too much room to tell all about it, but God knew how to take care of His own. How I know that if the brother had come there and begun on sectism first, instead of showing the blessed saving power of Jesus, and the oneness in Christ, I would not have listened to him long, for I was honest, and thought sectarianism was right until I got the sanctifying power, the cleansing blood applied to my heart; then I could see the evils of sectism. Yes I had my eyes open then, I could see. Glory to Jesus for the anointing!

Now dearly beloved, I have felt for some lime that I ought to write on this subject. I wrote some of it, then did not finish it for a few days, and when I would pray for the Spirit to lead me, this subject would open right before me. So now I finish it for the glory of God.

Jesus is all and in all to me. I am saved and sanctified, and out of babylon.

THE HOUSE OF GOD.

—:o:—

BUT Christ as a son over His own house whose house are we. — Heb. 3:6.

Let us walk honestly as in the day, not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying: but put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ. — Rom. 18:13, 14. For ye are all the children of God, by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. —  Gal. 3:26, 27. And we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end. —  Heb. 8:14. Praise the Lord! By these conditions, the Apostles tell us we are made partakers of Christ, whose house are we, i.e., all fully saved and redeemed people. Glory be to Jesus forever and ever!

Ye are built upon the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief comer, stone. — Eph. 2:20.

“Behold I will lay the stones, with fair colors, and lay the foundations with sapphires.” — Isa. 51:11. Jesus said to Peter on his confession of Christ, the Son of the living God, “Upon this Rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” — Matt. 16:18. Glory to Jesus! Bless God for this eternal, indescribable Church, which Church, or house is Christ Himself. Hallelujah!

The word Church, is from the Greek word Ecclesia, which means congregation, or assembly. In the Bible sense, congregation of Christians, or assembly of saints. The Apostle Paul tells us, in Col. 1:18. that Christ is the head of the body, the Church, and that we (redeemed people) are members of His body, of His flesh, and of His bones. — Eph. 5:30. For by one spirit are we all baptized into one body, (not unto different human organized sect bodies) whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free: and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. — 1 Cor. 12:13.

There is one Body and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling. — Eph. 4:4. Which hope is Christ in ns the hope of glory. — Col. 1:27.

What kind of material does God employ in the construction or this Spiritual house, or building? Answer, “Spiritual stones.”

Bless God! we have escaped out of the wooden, or perishable sect buildings of men, to Mount Zion, the Church of the First-born which is written in Heaven.”

Behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colors.” “Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a Spiritual house.” — 1 Peter 2:5.

“Wherefore also it is contained in the Scripture, Behold I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious; and he that believeth on Him shall not be confounded.”

“Now therefore, ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow-citizens with the saints, and of the household of God. In whom all the building fitly framed together, groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord. In whom ye also are builded together for a habitation of God through the Spirit. — Eph. 2:19, 21, 22.

Again the Apostle says, “But if I tarry tong, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the Church of the living God, the pillar, and: ground of the truth. — 1 Tim. 3:15. But how, and by whom is this household governed? Ans. In, and by the Lord Himself, through the Spirit. Hallelujah! “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall he upon his shoulder. Of the increase of his government and peace, there shall be no end. Upon the throne of David, and upon His kingdom to order it, and to establish it with judgment, and with justice from henceforth even forever.” — Isa. 9:6, 7. Glory to Jesus! “And I will clothe Him with thy robe, and strengthen Him with thy girdle, and I will commit thy government into his hand, and He shall be a father unto the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judea.” — Isa. 22:21.

But into this glorious house none may enter but those who pass through Christ, the door. Thus saith the Lord, “I am the door, by me if any man enter in he shall be saved and shall go in and out, and find pasture.” — Jno. 10:9.

Hence, dear reader, you plainly see that we cannot eater this house in any other way or manner, only through the. salvation of Jesus Christ, and “the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and no man shall shut, and he shall shut, and no man shall open.” “And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place, and He shall be for a glorious throne to His Fathers house. And they shall hang upon Him all the glory of His Fathers house.” — Isa. 22:22-24.

“This is the Word of the Lord unto Zerubbahel, saying. Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. Who art thou O great mountain (sect babylon) before Zerubbabel? Thou shalt become a plain. And He shall bring forth the head-stone (Christ) thereof with with shouting, crying grace, grace unto it. The hands of Zerubbable have laid the foundation of this house, his hands shall also finish it.” — Zech. 4:6, 7, 9. Hallelujah! Glory! glory!! be to Jesus.

O the glory of this temple
Far exceeds the former one;
All its stones are bound together,
In love’s dear eternal Son.

In this building, what a wonder!
There’s a dwelling place for me:
Yes, thy beauty, O my Savior,
I shall here for ever see,”

ACCESS TO GOD.

—:o:—

AND Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand, of a fit man into the wilderness: and the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not in habited: and lie shall let go the goat in the wilderness. — Lev. 16:21, 22.

Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God. But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which ho offered, for himself, and for the errors of the people: The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first, tabernacle was yet standing. — Heb. 9:6-8.

O we do thank God that He has given us the new and living way, which is Christ. Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by Me. – John 14:6.

Praise God! When we confess our sins to Jesus He bears them away into the sea of forgetfulness not to be remembered any more forever. Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. – Rom. 5:1, 2. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. – Eph. 2:18. In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of Him – 3:12. “For Christ has hot entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true, but into Heaven itself now to appear in the presence of God for us.” Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the Heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, vet without sin —  Heb. 4:14, 15.

Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for He is faithful that promised.) — Heb. 10:23.

May the Lord help us, that after we have had access through Christ to God that we may stay there and be contented with the things that God provides for us. Praise His holy name! Your Bro. in Christ.

THE WORD OF THE LORD CONCERNING SICKNESS.

—:o:—

GOD spake all these words. — Ex. 20:1. I will hear what God the Lord will speak. — Psa. 85:8. For Thou has magnified Thy Word above all Thy name — Psa. 138:21. The Word of our God shall stand forever — Isa. 40:8. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My Words shall not pass away — Matt. 24:35. He sent His Word, and healed them — Psa. 107:20. If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in His sight, and wilt give ear to His command men is, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians, for I am the Lord that healeth thee — Ex. 15:26. I will take sickness away from the midst of thee. – Ex. 23:25. Ye shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may pro long your days — Dent. 5:33. The Lord will take away from thee all sickness – Deut. 7:15. Thus saith the Lord, . . . have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the Lord — 2 Kings. 20:5. And Asa . . . was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to the Lord, but to the physicians. And Asa slept with his fathers, and died — 2 Chron. 16:12, 13. You who take the Lord for your physician do not resort to earthly physicians. Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God . . . ye are all physicians of no value — Job 18:3, 4. Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee — Psa. 55:22. Give ns help from trouble: for vain is the help of man. Psa. 60:11. In vain shalt thou use many medicines. – Jer. 46:11. No good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly — Psa. 84:11. O Lord my God, I cried unto Thee, and Thou hast healed me — Psa. 30:2. Bless the Lord O my soul and forget not all His benifits: Who forgives all thine iniquities; Who healeth all thy diseases? Christ. Who redeemeth thy life from destruction: Who crowneth thee with lovingkindness, and tender mercies — Psa. 103:2-4. Answer. Christ. Surely this lovingkindness shall follow us all the days of our life. This is my comfort in my afflictions; for Thy Word hath quickened me — Psa. 119:50. Behold, I will bring in health, and cure, and will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth. Jer. 33:6. And Jesus went about all Galilee, . . . healing all manner of sickness and all manner of diseases among the people — Matt. 4:23. And they brought unto Him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had palsy; and he healed them — Matt. 4:24. If ye have faith . . . nothing shall be impossible unto you. Jesus saith unto him, I will come, and heal him — Matt. 8:7. Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed – Matt. 8:8. And Jesus said, . . . go thy way; and as thou, hast believed, so be it unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour —  Matt. 8:13. When the even was come, they brought unto Him many that were possessed with devils; and He cast out the spirits with His Word, and healed all that were sick; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saving, Himself took out infirmities, and bare our sicknesses — Matt. 8:16, 17. He gave them (His disciples) power against unclean sprits to east them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of diseases – Matt. 10:1. All things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive – Matt, 21:22. And they (the disciples) cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick and healed them – Mark 6:13. Therefore I say unto you what things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them – Mark 11:24. And these signs shall follow them that believe; in my name shall they cast out devils; . . . . they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. And they went forth, . . . . continuing the Word with signs following. – Mark 16:17, 18, 20. Christ says, These signs shall follow them that believe. So you all see very plainly that the sects are unbelievers, for these signs do not follow them: but they speak against them. Christ says, He that is not with me is against; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad – Matt. 12:30. Christ says the disciple is not above his master, but every one that is perfect shall be as his master – Luke 6:40. Blessed are they that hear the Word of God and keep it – Luke 11:28. Some people say we cannot find Scripture for the laying on of hands for the easting out of devils. Now when the sun was setting, all that had any sick with divers diseases; brought them unto Him and He laid His hands on every one of them, and healed them. And devils also came out of many. Luke 4:40, 41. Then He called His twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And He sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick, and they departed and went through the town . . . healing – Luke 9:1, 2, 6. And now Lord, . . . grant unto may servants, that with all boldness they may speak Thy Word, by stretching forth Thy hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of Thy holy Child Jesus – Acts 4:29, 30. They brought forth the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might over shadow some of them. There come also a multitude out of the cities round about, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits, and they were healed every one – Acts 5:15, 16.

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and forever – Heb. 13:8. Verily verily I say unto you, he that believes on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do: because I go unto my Father – John 14:12. God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: so that from His Body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them – Acts 19:11, 12. The father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed and laid his hands on him, and healed him. And when this was done, others also which had diseases in the Island, came and were healed – Acts 28:8, 9. We see that one Elder can lay hands on the sick and heal them according to the above Scripture, where, there can be no other had. Is any sick among you? let him call for the Elders of the Church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise, him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him — James 5:14, 15. The Word of our God is forever settled in Heaven. You can glorify God by trusting Him for your physician. Why then suffer so much? If you know these things happy are ye if ye do them. Saved in Jesus.
