U. B. “CHURCHLINESS.”

—:o:—

THE General Conference is the highest legislative, and judiciary power in the Church.”

U. B. Telescope.

That being the case, it follows, as a necessary conclusion that Christ is not in the U. B. sect at all, or else is voted to some very low seat, perhaps only an advisory member, whose advice is very seldom asked for, and when given set at naught as unworthy the wisdom of that body to adopt and act upon. For, “when it — the general Conference — decides, it is to be so considered, and acted upon.” So an adulterous and carnal sect finds it more congenial to their lusts, to make, and walk by their own laws, than to obey the voice of Him upon whose shoulders the government of the kingdom of Heaven is.

LESS GRACE, AND MORE SECT IDOLATRY.

Says the Telescope: “We, as a church, need more grace — a great deal more. For years it has been the fashion among us, that as soon as something did not go to suit somebody he began to talk about not supporting the preacher, the cause of missions, the Telescope,” etc. “It has been a sad comment on, not only our churchliness, but our scarcely of piety as well. “Let every man advocate what he believes right, but not cease his support of the church. We want more grace. We heard of a leading brother in a convention the other day, standing up and advising the brethren of that Conference to withhold their money from the cause of missions, and give it to him to help carry on the effort of breaking down the Telescope, and other work of the church. Is it not strange that any cannot promote their sentiments in the church without trying to hinder, and destroy the work of the church?” May the Lord give us more grace.”

NOTE.

“We want more grace.” Well then Mr. Editor, we advise you to turn your Telescope in the direction of Calvary. See there Christ crucified without the camp, ..nat He might sanctify the people with His own blood.” Surely “He giveth more grace.” Why then does Mr. Hott. remain so cold f If his sect is in such extreme want of more grace, which is surely the case, why does not he seek his first love, become one of the “seed of Abraham,” to an heir according to the promise, of the inheritance of the holy land — see Gal. …:7, 16-18, 29. And then preach the real holy land, the Heavenly Canaan of full salvation, without money, and without price, in stead of charging admittance to his graceless lectures on the earthly Canaan. Surely the U. B. branch of babylon is fallen, is fallen, and confesses its great scarcety of piety. It is a mass of confusion. Her “churchliness” is about ready to burst up, and fall to pieces. A “leading- brother” of one Conference wants the inference to give means to break down the official organ of the sect. Surely that man and the Telescope cannot both be of God, for such are of one heart and mind. But the Editor calls him “brother,” from which we infer that they must both be of the general brotherhood of sinners. Only the brother sinner was not disposed to support the Telescope sinner, which sets hard on the latter sinner. The Editor, knowing that his sect is destitute of the Holy Spirit, who guides us into all truth, and gives us “one mind,” “the mind of Christ,” does not expect their members to be of the “same mind, and the same judgment,” therefore he says, “let every man advocate what he believes to be right.” This is a clear acknowledgment that the U. B. sect is a part of babylon, namely of babel confusion. “Let every man advocate what he believes.” Behold the confusion of tongues!

“Behold all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.” — Isa. 50:11.

The Editor thinks his sect need a “great deal more grace,” and that her piety is very scarce. Truly the people thereof need the saving grace of God, and our prayer to God is that they may receive it. But for the object the Editor wants it, grace is not the thing that is wanted. He desires something to improve the running gears of his “churchliness” — his sectliness. But the real grace of God will never prosper that, or any other sect organization.

Yea, one sect Editor, — T. K. Doty — said that “thorough holiness destroys sects and denominations.” “Thorough holiness,” is the “true grace of God,” and it would destroy the U. B. sectliness as sure as fire would consume a dry straw-stack, Surely no sect can prosper by what destroys sects.

The Editor of the Telescope thinks that not only is the pulse of their churchliness very faint, but that their “piety” is also in a very sickly state. No doubt it is dying of Consumption. So Dr. Hott has hit the case well in his diagnosis of the U. B. sect, but the treatment recommended by him proves him a very poor doctor. He prescribes the same remedy for both weak “churchliness,” and expiring “piety,” namely, “more grace.” This were good for their piety, but would utterly destroy their “churchliness.” It U. B’s. wish to become pious toward God, let them obtain the “more grace,” of entire holiness, but this will not subserve the desired end of building up the sect, but all becoming thus pure in heart, will be sure to hear the voice of the Shepherd, saying, “Come out of her my people,” and will obey the Lord and depart out of her, leaving the U. B. churchliness more desolate. But if that sect wishes to have their members more loyal to their authority, and devoted to their party interests, then let her leaders use every precaution to keep them from getting “more grace,” especially the grace of entire sanctification, but let them put forth every effort to increase the idolatrous fervor for the U. B. name. Keep Christ and salvation out of sight, but raise the shout, “Great is the Diana of the U. B.ans.” Get your people desperately sectish, yea, “mad on their idols,” and they will bow in one accord to all the decrease of your head — the General, Annual, and quarterly Conference. Then all their living will be laid down at the feet of their priests in sacrifice to their U. B. idol. For while the grace of God inspires liberality toward God and His Gospel, the sectarian spirit is the only thing that freely lavishes upon the lords of babylon, and the propagation of the sect name. Several years ago a U. B. paper, entitled the “United Brethren in Christ,” treated on the best means of advancing their sect, and wisely concluded that the best thing was to infuse more love into their people for their sect, its name and creed, and the writer referred to the great prosperity of the M. E. sect, and accounted for it by intense Methodistic zeal, and the writer advised the U. B’s. to adopt the same policy. This was wise sectish counsel. The Spirit of Christ only can build up Christianity, and the spirit of sect alone can give prosperity to sects. Then if the smaller sects would flourish let them emulate the M. E’s. Get as far as possible from God. Lay every plan to catch the rich, put the wealthy into all the seats of honor, “make a fail show in the flesh.” Those elephant shows, and money making gamblings that you see and hear in Methodism, do. In short, for sectish success, go full length over to the world, the flesh, and the devil, for God will not help to build any sect. But,

Your craft best thrives
When virtue dies,
By festives nude,
And frolics lewd.
By games of chance,
And pious (?) dance,
Obtaining pelf,
By lies and stealth,
By jockey joles,
And sale of souls.
By taking in
The secret sin,
Your sect may swell,
And prosper well;
And keep apace
In Babel’s race,
Of ri-val-ry,
And jeal-ous-y.
Till lightnings flash,
The coming crash,
Of Heaven’s ire,
“In flaming fire,”
And ruin smite,
The works of night.
And hell possess
Your “Churchliness.”

Daniel.

“PREPARE WAR.”

—:o:—

PROCLAIM ye this among the Gentiles, prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up. — Joel 3:9. “Prepare war” against what? Against the apostate religions, against the false churches, against the bloody City, (sectism) prepare ye war against her; arise and let us go up at noon etc. — Jer. 6:4. Why prepare war against her? Thus saith the Lord concerning the Prophets that make my people err, that bite with their teeth, and cry, peace; and he that putteth not into their mouths, they even prepare war against him. — Micah 3:5. The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against His Christ. — Acts 4:26.

And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. — Rev. 16:13, 14. And when the thousand years are expired, satan shall be loosed out of His prison, and shall go out to deceive the nations (denominations) which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, (sectarian sinners and non-professing sinners) to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. — Rev. 20:7, 8, 9. Praise God! beloved these Scriptures are being fulfilled in these last days. The devil is already trying to work a “New Method” to unite the sects. I have before me an article published at Dayton Ohio by one of the “harlot” daughters, namely U. (let me) B. which is titled, “New Methods,” and runs as follows: “The work of Christ (which should read work of sectism) in cities is just now receiving much attention, and the question of applied Christianity is being widely discussed. There are large seeking masses of humanity in these cities that the churches (sects) do not touch with present methods.” (Which of course are not Bible methods, as the reader will see by what the writer farther says in the article, neither will the new method be.) The article says, “It is felt that the Apostolic aim and purpose have been lost and must be regained.” Thus in their blindness and confusion they acknowledge their condition; but let us see how they expect to regain the Apostolic aim and purpose. “To accomplish anything, denominations must unite in a common purpose and effort. A strong committee from each of these having the matter in charge, is certainly indicated. Such a committee would have all the churches behind it and would represent all the churches.” The confused writer of course means by “churches,” denominations or sects. And knowing nothing about God’s process of uniting His saints, the devil makes them think that they can unite or effect a union by “new methods” and committees. Thus they are blinded by the devil in their confusion, and the Scripture is fulfilled that is quoted above, so they are united in one effort, viz. to oppose the saints and the work of the Lord in gathering His remnant out of all the Northern countries. — Jer. 31:8. Where they have been scattered by false shepherds in a cloudy and dark day, — Jer. 23:1, 2. Ezek. 34:12. But glory be to Jesus! Beloved they shall not prevail for the “fire that comes down from God out of heaven shall devour them.” And the multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel, (Zion of God) even all that fight against her (Zion) and her munition, and that distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision. It shall even be as when an hungry man dreameth, and, behold, he eateth; but he awaketh, and his soul is empty: or as when a thirsty man dreameth, and, behold, he drinketh; but he awaketh, and behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite: So shall the multitude of all the nations be that fight against mount Zion. — Isa. 29:7, 8. Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces lest I confound thee before them. For behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brazen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, and against the people of the land. And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the Lord, to deliver thee. — Jer. 1:17-16. For thus hath the Lord spoken unto me, like as the lion and the young lion roaring on his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the Lord of hosts come down to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof. As birds flying, so will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it. — Isa. 31:4, 5.

The Lord shall go forth as a mighty man, he shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: he shall cry, yea, roar; he shall prevail against his enemies. I will make wast mountains and hills, (big and little sects) and dry up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools. And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them. — Isa. 42:13, 15, 16. Praise Your free Brother sanctified.

HASTING TO DO HIS WILL.

—:o:—

SO run that ye may obtain. — 1 Cor. 9:24. And He said, This will be the manner of the king that shall rule over you: he will take your sons and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots. — 1 Samuel 8:11.

Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. — Psalm 19:5.

Jesus, made a high priest forever after the order of Melchisedec. — Heb. 6:20.

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fre throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward Him. — 2. Chron. 16:9. I will run the way of Thy commandments when Thou shalt enlarge my heart. — Psa. 119:32. But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their stringth: they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be we weary, and they shall walk and not faint. — Isa. 40:31.

And thou O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. — Dan. 12:4.

Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize. So run that ye may obtain. — 1 Cor. 9:24.

And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that Gospel which I preached among the Gentiles: but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run in vain. — Gal. 2:2. Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us; and let us run with patience the race set before us. — Heb. 12:1.

Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you. — 1 Peter 4:4.

The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it and are safe. — Prov. 18:10. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth: but of God that showeth mercy. — Rom. 9:19.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

—o—

AFTER our sojourn with the saints at Beaver Dam, we went to the Ramsey neighborhood, five miles north of Columbia City Ind., to the Grove meeting that had been announced there. Glory to Jesus! that meeting was a glorious victory. Dear Bro. and sister Michels and their children and Bro. William Warren, one of their helpers came to this meeting and it was glorious and joyful to our souls to meet. Dear Brothers Kilpatrick and Howard, and a number other dear saints were there from Ohio. One dear young Bro. from near Auburn Ind. and several from two different neighborhoods in Huntington Co. Ind. were there, as their first meeting with the saints. Praise God! the meeting was greatly blessed to their souls. Some of them were already out of sectism, others declared their freedom, and about all were wonderfully saved and filled with the Holy Spirit, and went home to lift up the pure standard of Divine truth, and blow the Trumpet of the Lord against the walls of babylon. Good doors are open at these places for the pure Gospel. Not many souls were saved in this meeting, but great good was done by instructing and settling the dear saints. Twice we went to a beautiful Lake and Bro. Michels baptized some dear saints. O praise God for the sacred and holy footsteps of our great “Commander and Leader.” On Monday evening we had a very precious service at mother Ramsey’s house, observing the love inspiring and heart-melting ordinances of washing the saints feet, and the Lord’s supper. Praise God! for the holy presence of the Great Exemplar of these fruitful ordinances.

The next day we bade adieu to the dear children of God of these parts, and journeyed over to Payne Ohio. Dear Bro. H. Shaner having come after us with his team. Praise God! He gave us a beautiful day, and a prosperous journey by the will of God, and our hearts flowed out in heavenly song, which the Holy Spirit carried to the hearts of the people, insomuch that in the village the people along our way came out of their houses, and listened to the soul-inspiring music. O glory to our God!

Dear Bro. Michels and Co. went home with dear Bro. and sister H. Smith near Churubusco, and had a few meetings in that place, and then journeyed toward Michigan.

We were truly happy to meet the beloved saints in Paulding Co. O., most of whom were rejoicing in the hope of the glory of God. But some were not in the Spirit, a few had fallen away. The Spirit was no little restrained in the body, but the Lord wrought a glorious deliverance in Zion. Praise the name of our God! and we left the saints of God greatly strengthened and encouraged. God bless all the beloved and faithful in Christ Jesus in this place. Dear Bro. Kilpatrick was with us here; he goes soon to the Church near Antwerp O., and thence to La Grange Co. Ind. The Lord is wonderfully filling this Bro. with the living Word of God, and giving him wisdom to link it together in chains, to bind all hearts to the obligations of a pure heart and a holy life

From Payne, our little company took train for home to attend the Bangor Gamp. Praise God! we found the little ones at home having the victory in their souls. The Lord bless their souls continually with all joy and peace in believing, that they may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Daniel.

WHO WANTS A CHEAP FARM?

Bro. A. C. Bigler of Alpena Dekota writes us that his son has 160 acres of good land in Dak., two miles from a R. R. and a nice town that he offeres very cheap. Only asking about what will cover the improvements etc. The son is not well and they desire to sell the land and all come to the Bangor camp meeting, get fully saved and healed, and also give a part to the TRUMPET cause. We greatly wish some one could thus assist them to the meeting, and doubtless make a very profitable investment for the Lord. Let any Bro. that has some means, write Bro. Bigler and enquire into this matter, and learn what is the will of God concerning you. O let the saints of God help each other. Bro. Bigler has taken the TRUMPET ever since it started. He and companion and son desire greatly to come to the Camp meeting and obtain full salvation. May the Lord open their way. What thou doest do quickly.

TAKEN PRISONERS FOR JESUS’ SAKE.

—:o:—

Humboldt Kan.

“But before all these they shall lay their hands on you and persecute you delivering you up to the synagogues and into prison being brought before Kings and rulers for my name’s sake”

Praise the Lord this scripture is being fulfilled. I feel led to tell of the wonderful power to save and deliver.

On the 30th day of Jan. last the U. B. sect was holding a protracted meeting.

We went a few times, and on the 30th we gave in our testimony for Jesus the mighty to save. They had J. B. Shangle’s wife, his father, and myself arrested for disturbing the meeting. They took us as prisoners before the Justice of Peace. Of course we would not plead guilty which set pretty hard on the U. B’s. as they did not think of going into court. We had our trial in two weeks from the time of our arrest. Oh how sweetly the Lord did fill our souls those two weeks. Let me say to the glory of God, and the good of all souls that may get into the same place, the clay I was arrested I felt, more like shouting than I did when I was sanctified. The Lord so Wonderfully filled me with his strength and love, and his promises which are yea and amen, to the glory of God. He kept us without doubt or fear. Praise his name forever!

After we were tried, we were pronounced “not guilty” and the cost fell on the prosecuting witness’s, which was $54. But we would have praised the Lord just the same if we had been sent to the penitentiary. All things work together for good to them that love the Lord. I know God, and his cause was glorified in trial at court. God gave us boldness to stand for his blessed holy cause. We did not fear what man should say to us, but kept hid away with Christ in God. There were two U. B. preachers, and three of their members swore against us; poor souls how they need salvation. They have sinned against so much light. I am so glad that I belong to the Church that the gates of hell shall not prevail against. The Devil and all his angels cannot hurt us while we follow Jesus in God’s order. But we will gain the victory every time through Jesus. Hallelujah to God and the Lamb forever and ever! Your sister under the blood. Pray for the few saints at Ottersprings.

CHANGES.

—:o:—

Dear Bro. J. C. Fisher has sold his interest in the GOSPELTRUMPET publishing house, to dear Bro. Enoch E. Byrum, of Randolph Co. Ind., who came to us from Otterbein University, Westerville Ohio, with a heart lull of love to God, and pure zeal for the cause of Divine truth.

He enters at once upon the glorious business of the OFFICE, and we doubt not is chosen of God for the place. Dear Bro. J. C. Mayne, a fellow student with him, from Dayton Ohio, who accompanied him to the Bangor Camp-meeting, has been led of the Lord to remain in the Office and labor until the Fall term of school.

God bless these dearly beloved, clear headed, and warm hearted young brethren in the Lord. Amen!

COME TO St JAMES MO. CAMP.

Bro. Cole writes us that the saints at St James Mo., desire us to give a general invitation to the Camp-meeting at that place, which, the Lord willing, will begin July 27. The meeting will be held in a deserted iron works town. The buildings are there, furnishing ample places for all the saints to lodge in, freely. A very large spring is in the midst of the place. Also, I believe a tabernacle has been procured for the meeting. Let all the saints of God come from far and near that possibly can, and such as desire to seek the Lord. Bring bedding, and plenty of provision to slay 10 days, or two weeks. Come in the name of the Lord, and with a heart full of faith for a glorious victory, and a harvest of souls. Our Heavenly tuned little band of singers will be there, the Lord willing. Praise the Lord!

THE BANGOR FEAST OF TABERNACLES

—:o:—

This glorious con vocation has again passed around. A great host of saints were in attendance. And notwithstanding certain trying circumstances that have been passing, like a dark cloud, over the horizon of Zion, causing many hearts to fear the Camp Meeting would not be blessed as heretofore. We also had some burden on our heart, but before the time arrived the Lord lifted it all off, and sweetly assured us that the meeting would be glorious, and victorious. Praise God!

So it proved. O what love was manifest in the “beloved city.” How wonderfully deep, pure, and sweet, the fellowship of the saints is becoming. It seemed as though we were in heaven above. All over the ground dear brethren could be seen in loving embrace, two and three or more pressing each other to their hearts, as if a loving, and long severed husband and wife had just met. And often such holy embraces were by saints who had never seen each others faces before that meeting. There was dear Bro., Reed from New York, Bro., Pollok from Denver, Col, Bros., Night and Daniels from Western Ill, a good force from Ind., and some from O. O what a wonderful host of free, and fire baptized saints God has raised up in the last four years, and the great work is rapidly gathering strength, increasing in velocity, and widening in the scope as it moves on. Truly God is “hastening this Work hr its season.” O that it may also move forward in the scale of purity, love, and power. No complete record was made of the number of Consecrations, but a glorious work of Salvation was wrought. Two or three long alter places were daily filled, with souls who found Christ as the desire of their hearts, and “rejoiced with joy unspeakable and full of glory.” A goodly number were converted, more wholy sanctified, and many saitns received a fresh anointing from the Lord. Quite a number were healed. The last sabbath there was an immense crowd of people upon the ground. Large crowds heard the word with deep interest, from two or three places besides the congregation in the pavilion. Much seed was sown and light imparted which will doubtless help souls to God.

On Wednesday afternoon there was a solemn and glorious baptism scene at Bangor 19 obedient saints were buried in Christ in baptism, and came forth shouting praises to God with His glory in their souls. On Saturday seven more followed their Lord. Sabbath evening and Monday morning came the holy farewell greeting. O how the beloved saints clasped each other in affectionate embrace, and seemed loth to part asunder. But all were willing to say “thy will be done,” and ready to go forth to their several homes, many “to run to and fro,” in search of perishing souls in Jesus name. May the great blessing of God attend their labors. Amen!

“THE ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION.”

AND they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.” — Daniel 11:31. “And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate ..et up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.” — Daniel 12:11.

“And there came one of the seven angels, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither: I will shew unto thee the judgment of me threat whore that sitteth upon many waters: So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet col..ed beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.” — Rev. 17:1, 3, 5.

1st. What is this abomination?

2nd. When was it set up?

The answer of these two questions will engage our attention in this article. We appeal to the pure Word of the Lord, interpreted by the Holy Spirit.

This abomination is nothing else than humanly constituted ecclesiasticism, sect organization and authority.

The language of our Lord in Matt. 24:..5, may seem to give a different interpretation of this abomination. But all will appear plain when rightly understood. Let us read Matt. 24:9-22. “Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this Gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand): Then let them which be in Judea flee into the mountains: Let him which is on the house-top not come down to take anything, out of his house. Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the Sabbath day: For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.”

This forms a part of the Savior’s answer ..o the questions, “When shall these things ..e, and what shall be the sign of Thy ..oming, and of the end of the world?” These things,” refer to the destruction of Jerusalem, and the temple. The questions refer then to the end of the Jewish age, and the end of the Gentile age, or the close of time. There is a parallel between those two events. The former was symbolic of the latter. The declaration of Christ to the Jews, “Save yourselves from this untoward generation,” is now repeated to all the true children of God in the Gentile sects, “Come out of her my people that ye partake not of her sins, and receive not of her plagues.” The Jews were filled with pride for their nation, and highly colored pictures of hope for its coming glory; having applied the exceedingly great promises of God, of Christ’s Kingdom, to Judaism. And while puffed up with fancied pictures of a great Jewish kingdom, they were struck with consternation, at the command of Jesus to escape from the old wreck of Judaism, as out of a sinking vessel. So the Gentile sects, filled with zeal for their prosperity and glory, are now shocked with a loud voice from Heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people lest ye partake of her sins, and receive of her plagues;” for strong is the Lord that judgeth her.” The Jews crucified Christ, and the wrath of God fell upon them. The Gentiles also filled up the cup of their iniquity by rejecting holiness, by which they crucified the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, and the vials of God’s wrath are now being poured out upon them without mixture.

The above quotation begins with the time of martyrdom, verses 10-13, next describes the cold and formal religion of sectism, brought, about by the “many false prophets,” of sect religion. Second Peter 2:1—3, is a parallel with the above verses.

The “Abomination spoken of by Daniel, standing in the holy place,” — verse 15, is supposed to refer to the Roman ensign carried into the temple, at the time of its taking by Titus, as the next verse indicates. We may allow that this is true, and yet it is true that the “Abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel, “is sect ecclesiasticism. How is this? The temple was God’s house. His presence filled the holy place. His voice ruled there, and the symbol of any other authority was an abomination in that holy place. The Roman banner or ensign, represented an earthly originated power. The temple was a type of God’s Church, the Roman ensign a representation of sect power and authority. The Roman army, martialed under that ensign destroyed the temple, the sect abomination destroyed the Spiritual temple, or Church, by “polluting the sanctuary,” the Church.

“When ye — the saints — therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, — or rather its figure — stand in the holy place — the literal temple, or type of the Church, then let them that be in Judea flee into the mountains.” So just as soon as the elect of God see and understand the abomination of sect rule, the call comes to your soul, flee out of the midst of babylon!

As therefore the ancient disciples saw the ensign of a foreign power which burned the temple, stand in that holy place, the figure of God’s Church, and then fled out of Jerusalem: so now the true saints of God see displayed the banners of sectish foreign power and authority, and flee out of babylon, and “stay on God in truth.” Observe the abomination of desolation was something that was “set up,” as a kingdom, or new standard of authority is set up. “And they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.” — Dan. 11:31. It is clear to our mind, and easily shown that all the evils of present day sect religion, can be traced to sect organization. When the devil once “set up” sect government and rule, the way was prepared for the introduction of all the abominations that have appeared under the name of Christianity, which have disgraced the name of Christ, and largely destroyed His sanctuary of strength. Sect rivalry and competition gives place to, and begets a zeal for the accession of the rich, the honorable and influential, whether saved or graceless, which opens the way for sinners to be recognized as church members, with whom real children of God are tied up, and by them governed. Sect competition, and jealousy, opens the way for floods of sinners to join what was called the church, which necessarily corrupts and destroys the few souls bound in with them, who were saved, and constituted the real Church. Again, sect organizations, generate sect rivalry, and this becomes the hot-bed of all the corrupt schemes, festivals, and abominable “Nude and lewd art.” to raise money, to purchase style, vanity, and gaudy show, so as to “take the sway,” and “draw the multitudes.” So even accursed thing that has “polluted the sanctuary of strength,” has been conceived in, and developed by sects. Peter prophesied that false teachers would appear, who would “bring in damnable heresies.” — 2 Peter 2:1. The German rendering, is “Destructive sects,” and corresponding with this rendering, we read that babylon is a “Destroying mountain that destroyeth all the earth.” — Jer. 51:24-27.

The “destructive sects,” make up the “destroying mountain” of babylon.

Hence the mass of sects are called the “Mother of harlots, and the abomination of the whole earth the source of all other abominations.

When was this abomination of human government set up under the cloak of God’s Church? Paul tells us that the “Mystery of iniquity already worked” in his day, (2 Thess. 2.) Namely, some of the elements that would generate that false system already began to make their appearance. So we should look for its rise early in the Gospel dispensation. We will now call your attention to a little history that shows the time of his appearing. We take the following from De Aubine’s history of the Reformation. The first chapter of which records the apostasy of the Church.

“The doctrine of “the Church,” and of “the necessity for its visible unity,” which had gained footing as early as the third century, favored the pretentions of Rome. The great bond, which originally bound together the members of the church, was a living faith in the heart, by which all were joined to Christ as their one head. But various causes ere long conspired to originate and develop the idea of a necessity for some exterior fellowship. Men, accustomed to the associations and political forms of an earthly country, carried their views and habits of mind into the spiritual and everlasting kingdom of Jesus Christ.

Persecution — powerless to destroy, or even to shake the new community, compressed it into the form of a more compacted body. — To the errors that arose in the schools of deism, or in the various sects, was opposed the truth “one and universal” received from the Apostles and preserved in the Church. All this was well, so long as the invisible and Spiritual Church was identical with the visible and outward community. But soon a great distinction appeared: — the form and vital principle parted asunder. The semblance of identical and external organization was gradually substituted in place of the internal and Spiritual unity which is the very essence of a religion proceeding from God. Men suffered the precious perfume of faith to escape while they bowed themselves before the empty vase that had held it. Faith in the heart no longer knit together in one the members of the church. Then it was that other ties were sought; and Christians were united by means of bishops, archbishops, popes, mitres, ceremonies, and canons. The Living Church retiring by degrees to the lonely sanctuary of a few solitary souls. — an exterior church was substituted in place of it, and installed in all its forms as of Divine institution. Salvation no longer flowing forth from that Word which was now hidden — it began to be affirmed that it was conveyed by means of certain invented forms, and that none could obtain it without resorting to such means! No one, it was said, can by his faith attain to everlasting life: — Christ communicated to the Apostles, and the Apostles to the Bishops, the unction of the Holy Spirit: and this Spirit is found only in this order of communication. In the beginning of the Gospel, whosoever had received the Spirit of Jesus Christ was esteemed a member of the church: — now the order was inverted; and no one, unless a member of the church, was counted to have received the Spirit of Jesus Christ.” Page 20, 21.

Here is a very clear record of facts. A living faith, and the love of God in the heart were the only bonds of union in the New Testament Church. Then the idea was developed of an exterior, and visible fellowship and organism. This outward banding together could only have been conceived through the loss of the great bond of love. This idea of what they called a “visible” organization, was taken from the organisms of this world, and is dragging the holy Body of Christ down to the level of a human organization, and making the Kingdom of Heaven conform to the kingdoms of earth. The truth received from Christ and His Apostles respecting the Church was, “One and universal,” and we are told that the opposite idea of division into man made organisms came from the “schools of deism.” The result of setting up this abomination of desolation, was the “escape of the ‘vital principle,’ of love, and the ‘precious perfume of faith.” “Faith in the heart no longer knit together in one the members of the church.” But “other ties were sought.” The true “Church retired to the lonely sanctuary of a few godly souls,” while “an exterior church was substituted in place of it, and installed in all its forms, as of Divine institution.” Here is a great fact. The effort on the part of man to organize the Church, resulted in a departure from the Church that Christ founded, and the substitution of another, an “exterior,” an outside snare of the devil. In the beginning of the Gospel, whosoever had received the Spirit of Jesus Christ was esteemed a member of the Church.” But now in the substituted earthly organism, the order was reversed. No one was acknowledged as having the Spirit of God, unless he bowed to the rule of the exterior sect. Again, what was the effort of setting up this desolating abomination?

“Salvation no longer flowed from that Word that was bidden.” And this abomination rose in the third century.

Now let us trace these same facts in “Mosheim’s Church Histoy,” page 63, treating on the “doctrine and form of government of the Church in the third century”.

“It appears incontestable, from the most authentic records and best histories of this century, that, in the larger cities, there was, at the head of each church, a person to whom was given the title of bishop, who ruled this sacred community with a certain sort of authority, in concert, however, with the body of presbyters, and consulting, in matters of moment, the opinions and the voices of the whole assembly. It is also equally evident, that, in every province, one bishop was invested with a certain superiority over the rest, in point of rank and authority, This was necessary to the maintenance of that association of churches which had been introduced in the preceding century; and it contributed to facilitate the holding of general councils, and to give a certain degree of order and consistency of their proceedings.

It must, at the same time, be carefully observed, that the rights and privileges of these primitive bishops were not every where accurately fixed, nor determined in such a maner as to prevent encroachments and disputes; nor does it appear, that the chief authority in the province was always conferred upon that bishop who presided over the church established in the metropolis. It may also be noticed, as a matter beyond all dispute, that the bishops of Rome, Antioch, and Alexandria, considered as rules of primitive and apostolic churches, had a kind of pre-eminence over all others, and were not only consulted frequently in affairs of a difficult and momentous nature, but were also distinguished by peculiar rights and privileges.

With respect, particularly, to the bishop of Rome, he is supposed by Cyprian to have had, at this time, a certain pre-eminence in the church.”

Here we see man’s government set up in the third century. One particular bishop was invested with a “certain sort of authority.” This is the very authority Revelation says the dragon gave to the beast, namely, the devil gave to man organized ecclesiasticism. “It is also equally evident that in every province, one bishop was invested with a certain superiority over the rest, in point of rank or authority.” This is just what you see in every sect organization. But you find nothing of it authorized in the New Testament. It is therefore evident that in the third century a new order of church government was set up. Official authority supplanted “God, who worketh all things in all” the members of his Church. From this headism there soon rose Roman hierarchy. First the bishops of Rome, Antioch, and Alexandria, had the preeminence, finally Rome grasped the entire headship. And a new and pernicious hierarchy was substituted for the Church of God, and this abomination that maketh desolate, conceived of satan and became the mother of many daughters of abomination. But thank God judgment is now given to the Saints of the most high, and the evening light reveals the Pure Church of God again. The abomination of desolation this is sect organization, authority, and her origin was in the latter part of the third century.

Daniel.

QUESTION ANSWERED.

—:o:—

Bro. Warner, if the Lord directs please give instructions in the TRUMPET, how the Church should act toward those that are deceived. I feel I hat they ought not to be allowed to have anything to do or say, in the assembly of the saints, unless it is to get down and get salvation, and confess their condition. Is this right?

ANSWER.

The Church should not fail to show their love for the souls of such. Even “admonish them as brethren.” But nothing should be done that may be construed as a recognition, or fellowship of such, while they refuse to receive the admonition of God’s ministers, and humble themselves to God for deliverance. If such persist in coining to the meetings of the saints, and taking a part, let it be known to them and all men that they are not of the saints. Have as little as possible to do and say about them and their speeches. Usually ignore it, and pay no attention, but if the Spirit of God puts it upon any one to rebuke them, let him obey the Lord. But avoid contention. Pray much for such, and while you firmly hold them as wrong until they get deliverance, confirm your love to them. Where deceived men and women are in the habit of coming to the saint’s meetings to rail, deny them privilege to speak, when the Spirit of God so leads. Amen!

Daniel.

OBITUARY.

—:o:—

Mosed O. Beebe: A blessed holy father in Israel has gone to rest Died June 19th., 1887. Aged 83 years, 3 months, and 16 days. Father Beebe was born in the state of New York. He gave his heart to God early in life. He preached the Gospel many years in what is called the Christian denomination; but when the true Gospel of God came to his ears in the precious evening light, his heart drank in the word. He received entire sanctification and renounced all sectism. The dear old pilgrim lived joyful in God, continued steadfast in faith and pure testimony, to the end of life. He lived with his son Wm. Beebe, a kind family, one half mile from Geneva Center Tabernacle. No member of the Church of God was more constant and uniform in attendance at all the meetings than dear Father Beebe. How we praised God for his good example, when we saw his bent over form coming leaning on his staff, up to the house of worship. O may all the dear saints remember his example of constancy, promptness and let it rebuke every temptation to sloth and slackness in the duty of assembling together for the worship of God. O how our soul often burned with love and gratitude to God for the great peace that shone in the countenance of dear Father Beebe as he stood in his place to testify of the glorious saving grace of God in his soul. He seldom arose to speak without stating that “this may be the last time you will ever hear my voice in testimony for Jesus.” How sacred the memory of his earnest exhortations. O may he never be forgotten by the Church at Geneva, and may that aged voice still ring in other hearts, inspiring them to a continual life of holiness until we join the dear pilgrim in his happy home on high. Father Beebe’s place in the sanctuary was not vacant many times before he entered his more glorious place with Jesus. His illness was brief, and his end peace. when we looked into his angelic face cold in sleep, a thrill of joy went through our soul and body, for we clearly read in the expression of the face, the holy and heavenly peace with which the soul had taken its departure to dwell in its house, not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

God bless dear Bro., and Sister Beebe, and all their family, who have had the blessed privilege of caring for this departed Father. The Lord comfort their hearts, and reward their labor of love in Christ Jesus. And may the sweet fragrance of Father Beebe’s pure and innocent life long bless their home, and inspire all their hearts with that beautiful hope that decked the heart and brow of our departed Father, who shall ever remain green in the memory of all who knew him. Funeral services in the Geneva Center Tabernacle, by the writer.

Ah see upon that tranquil brow,
The glow of Heaven’s peace;
A pledge that Father’s Spirit now
Has found a sweet release

How beautiful in Jesus’ sight,
The sleep of holy saints;
Yea, saith the voice from Heaven, “write,
Blessed be their rest from hence.”

The house that long was quickened by
The dear father’s ransomed soul,
Dissolved and let his spirit fly
To its immortal goal.’

His bended form we’ll see no more.
Nor hear his trembling voice,
But treasured in our mem’ry’s store,
We hold his virtues, choice.

His walk was gentle, free from strife,
His pilgrim robes white as snow,
The fragrance of his holy life,
Still lingers here below.

Daniel.

Died in Kalamazoo, Mich. June 19th, infant son of Bro. and sister A. E. Clark.

The funeral was held on Monday 21st. May the Lord bless Bro. and sister Clark with sustaining grace in this, their affliction. Amen!

An early summer Jesus sends,
To call a child above:
And whispers to the weeping friends,
’Tis all the fruit of love.

To save the darling child from woe,
And guard it from all harm,
From all the griefs you feel below,
I called it to my arms.

Ah, do not rashly with me strive,
Nor vainly fast, or weep;
The child, though dead, is yet alive,
And only gone to sleep.

’Tis on the Savior’s bosom laid,
And feels no sorrow there;
’Tis by a Heavenly Parent fed,
And heeds no more YOUR care.

To you the child was only lent;
While mortal, it was thine,
But now in robes immortal pent,
It lives forever mine.

Dear Brethren: — Praise God for salvation full and free! I wish to say to all the dear saints scattered abroad, that my trust is in Jesus, who is able to save to the uttermost all those that come unto Him. I am free from all sects and isms of devils, and I am determined to stand straight for the Lord and shun all evil. My prayer to God is, that He will keep us saved and ready to do His will.

TO THE SAINTS.

Arcola, Ind.

DEAR BRETHREN: — I am saved and kept by the grace of God. Some time ago Bro. Warner inserted an article in the GOSPEL TRUMPET, stating that I wished to purchase a small farm where there are saints. I received a number of letters from saints in different parts of the country. Most all came too late, as I had bought a piece of land at this place before I received the letters from the saints; but I believe it was all according to the will of the Lord, as I had trusted all in His hands. I believe it was the Lord’s will to keep me in this dark place to hold up the true light to others, as there is but two families in this place that are free from all sectism. The sects, with some outsiders, threatened to run us out, but we put our trust in God. If the world shall hate you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely for my sake, and for the sake of the Gospel, rejoice and be exceeding glad, for great is your inward in Heaven. We have suffered persecution here for the sake of teaching the straight truth, but praise the Lord! we have the victory in our soul. We would love to meet with the dear saints, hope the time is not far distant when we may meet with some of them.

Your brother in Christ, wholly given up to do the Lord’s will.

Dear Brethren: — I wish to say to the readers of the GOSPEL TRUMPET, regarding the work of truth, being wrought by that God authorized-organ: that I am in perfect sympathy with all I find in its precious columns; and am thankful that some dear friend has sent me two copies of it, (or numbers) recently. I should be glad to receive it regularly, had I the means to subscribe for it; and shall when I can. I am with my companion, expecting to begin a meeting in a school-house, in San Lou, Obisko Co. soon. We expect to “set the battle in array,” by the will and blessing of God, on the first Lord’s day of June at 11 o’clock. We desire earnestly, the prayers of all God’s true children who may read this, that our Father, God. may give us the hearts of some honest ones, seeking the true Bible light of Gospel truth, and salvation, who will be eternally benefited by our faithful, loving efforts to teach them to “observe all things, whatsoever I have commanded you. There are not only “wolves in sheep’s clothing, but also honestly deceived errorists among the children of God, in the denominations, who are ignorantly persecuting, and otherwise injuring the Church — or the influence and progress of the Church of the Living God in many places; and this vicinity is no exception, being surrounded by many ism- ists, who have a greater zeal for “church” and “doctrine” than for truth and souls. So God help us to preach, and live, with such holy unction, and power, as to counteract much of the “gainsayings” of these “last days.” O it is possible so to do, although the devil is strongly entrenched in denominational walls to-day, all over our fair land. For did not God say “Nothing is impossible to him that believeth.” And I do, and will continue to believe on Him, and the power invested in Him.

Glory to God in the highest! God speed the true ministers, and increase both their numbers, and light, and power, is my prayer for “Zion’s sake;” and the glory of Jesus’ name. Amen!

I think Bro. Warner’s little (large) work on the true Sabbath day, &c. is the clearest little work I have read on the subject, and I wish sincerely that it could be scattered far and wide. Will try to introduce it every where I go. Your sister, sanctified and filled with the Spirit, through the blood, and obediently living in increasing “light of the righteous.”

To all the saints: — I am so glad I have a part with the righteous. Glory be to His name forever! I am all the Lord’s, and am led by His Spirit. “He leads me beside still waters, and in green pastures.” He supplies all my needs spiritually and temporally. He fills me with the Holy Spirit all the time. Glory to God! “That wicked one toucheth me not;” for God keeps me by His power. Glory! Hallelujah!

“Now if the dispensation of death engraved in letters on stones, was attended with glory so that the sons of Isreal were unable to look steadily into the face of Moses, because of the brightness of his countenance, which dispensation is passing away, how rather shall not the dispensation of the Spirit be attended with glory; for if the ministry of condemnation be glory, much more does the ministry of righteousness abound in glory: for even that having been glorified in this respect, on account of the surpassing glory; for if that is being annulled through glory, far superior is this remaining in glory. Having therefore such a persuasion we exercise much confidence, and are not like Moses, who put a veil over his face for the sons of Israel not to gaze intently to the end of that being abolished.

But their minds were blinded, and to this day the same veil remains over the reading of the old covenant, not discovering that it is taken away in Christ, but even to this day when Moses is read a veil lies on their heart, but when they shall turn to the Lord the veil shall be taken from it; and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom. But we all, beholding the glory of the Lord in a face unveiled as transformed into the likeness from glory to glory as from the spirit of the Lord.” 2 Cor. 3:7—18, (Emph. Dia.)

Kingsley, Mich,

DEAR BRETHREN: — I am praising God for full salvation. I am free and out of bondage. Praise the Lord! “Long my weary soul was longing to enjoy this perfect rest.”

Glory to God! The way grows brighter.

I praise God for sending a good Bro.. here filled with the Holy Ghost and with power, who gave us the Word in its purity, which made cold professors and sect members squirm. Praise God! I am out of bondage and am in the clear light of God.

The things I once loved I now hate. I once loved so-called Church socials, festivals, donations, etc. which I now see is a trick of the devil to draw away souls into the bondage of sin. We must be obediant children; “Not fashsoniug ourselves according to the former lusts in ignorance, but as he which hath called you is holy so he ye holy in all manner of conversation; because as it is written be ye holy for I am holy.”

I am squaring my life by my Savior, “who did no sin, neither was guile found in His mouth.” I had rather be with the few that are thoroughly cleansed from the filthiness of sin, and have their robes washed in the blood of the Lamb, than to be with ten thousand which have a form of godliness and deny the power thereof. We are commanded, “from such turn away.”

Our Savior says “I am the good Shepherd and know my sheep, and am known of mine: and when He putteth forth His own sheep He goeth before them, and the sheep follow Him, for they know His voice.” A good many want to get before Christ, and have their own way in stead of following Him. To such, God says, “because ye followed not Me, and obeyed not My voice; I will laugh when your sorrow cometh.” Pray for us.

My testimony is that I am saved and sanctified by a second work of grace: and kept by the power of God unto salvation, ready to be revealed in the last day. Oh how the glory of God fills this earthen temple! O how I do love this holy way, and all of God’s dear children, with a pure heart fervently: a love that will last through all eternity. Amen!

I do praise God this morning for the blessed light that separated ns from the darkness of this world. But how sorry we feel for those who still remain in babylon, and worship the beast power, or sect religion. The judgment day will soon reveal to us the awful fact that thousands of souls will be damned in hell on account of this sin, (sect religion). And is it any wonder that God is sending His judgments upon babylon, by His messengers; “angels that come down from Heaven, (the Church), clothed with salvation and power.” — Rev. 16. Four years ago this coming Fall, we came to this part of the country. About 2 years previous to this we received this wonderful salvation which we have to-day. Having this love of God burning in our souls, and our eyes being open to see the world going down to eternal night through the darkness of false teaching, the Holy Spirit directed us to these parts to warn the people of their sins, and to lead them to the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world. Although the devil rages against our souls. God has raised up pure children here, who worship Him in Spirit and in truth.

Your Bro., saved and sanctified through the blood of the Everlasting Covenant.

Gowen, Mich.

DEAR BRETHREN: — I have felt led for some time to ask the prayers of God’s sanctified children, for the full and complete salvation of my soul. I have sought holiness sevral times, and thought I received it: I lived happy in the Lord for months, then carnal nature would make itself known, and I would be very unhappy. I have no other desire than to live a true saint of the Lord. The devil is trying hard to get me again, but glory to God! with His help I will soon come out victorious Dear saints pray earnestly for me until you hear from me again. I take the GOSPEL TRUMPET, and find in it food for my soul: it is all food for a hungry soul that will walk in the light which it teaches. I am free from all sects, and as soon as I can, I am going to have my name taken off of the F. M. book.

I wish God would send some of His true and faithful ones here to preach the Gospel of Christ, for there are souls here that would he saved that are being led away by false teachers. I am praying, and waiting for the time when I can hear the true Gospel preached in its purity. Yours in Christ.

DEAR BRETHREN: — I am saved from all sin. I was brought up in the Roman Catholic sect, but I saw in His blessed Word that it was wrong, and that I was a sinner. Being convicted, I yielded to the convictions, and confessed my sins to Him, and He forgave them all. After that I saw it was His will, even my sanctification. I am sanctified to-night, living in all the light God gives me. I ask an interest in your prayers, that I may stand firm.

DEAR BRETHREN: — I am redeemed and sanctified by the blood of the Lamb, and sweetly walking with Jesus, and am free from all sects. Praise the Lord! I belonged to the F. M. sect for thirty years, but I do praise God that I am now walking in the true light, and that I belong to the Church of the First Born. I have been healed of Rheumatism by prayer and the laying on of hands by Bro. Jacobson and sister Stowell, according to the Word, and I was immediately healed. I had been so greatly afflicted that I could not walk across the room. Praise God! After being healed I went to meeting with the dear saints in the afternoon and evening.

O Hallelujah to the Lamb forever!

Yours saved in Christ.

Dear Brethren: — As I cannot see you all face to face, I will testify through the TRUMPET. I am saved and sanctified, and doing the whole will of God. We just came home from an ordinance meeting held in Bro. sturges’ neighbor-hood. It was a glorious meeting. Our souls were wonderfully blessed in observing the commands of our Lord. O how the waves of glory did flood our souls as the shouts of praises went up to our King. Your Bro., under the cleansing blood of Jesus.

My Dear Brethren: — Grace be to you, and peace from God our Father. I am enjoying a present, free and full salvation. Glory to Jesus! my joy is complete in life Lord: He is a satisfying portion to my soul, He is all and in all to me. Bless His holy name! Some are for Paul, and some for Apollos; but I am for Christ, the way, the truth and the life, who saves His people from their sins, and from all the sect yokes which cause division and strife and every evil work, and puts upon His followers His yoke which is easy, und His burden which is light. Glory to Jesus!

I can say with the poet, “Jesus, I my cross have taken, all to leave and follow Thee,” Praise the Lord O my soul! for the liberty and freedom I find in Jesus my Savior, who does so wonderfully save and deliver me from every idol that would bring me into bondage. Glory be to the Lamb of God! I never felt so given up to the Lord as I do now. I feel I am led to work as the Lord’s missionary. I have been laboring some, as my health would permit for the past two or three months, at two or three points near where I live, with good results. Your Bro. in Jesus.

Dear Brethren: — Praise the Lord for full and free salvation through the blood of Jesus! Last winter, Sister Whipple of Sherman City, informed us that their son Johny, about 12 years of age, was quite low, and had been sick for some time. They thought he had Consumption, and asked us to pray for his healing. I told them that the Church here would meet at the regular time for prayer meeting, and pray for them at 8 o’clock, also requesting them to call upon God at the same time. In a few minutes after kneeling in prayer we received the witness that the work was done. We have since learned that at the time appointed tor prayer, Johny had a high fever and a hard cough which immediately left him during the time of prayer, and he has been well ever since. Praise the Lord! The distance between us was about 30 miles, but glory to God, distance does not prevent God from displaying his power, either to heal, or to save in answer to the prayer of His children. Praise the Lord! Your sanctified brother.

DEAR BRETHREN: — I praise the Lord this morning for full and free salvation. I know I have passed from death unto life, for I love the brethren. Glory to Jesus, who has cleansed and made me whole. O my soul is filled with the Holy Ghost fire. Praise His holy name! We are looking forward to the Gratiot Go. camp-meeting, expecting a refreshing shower. Let all the brethren come if the good Lord leads you to, for Gratiot needs another Holy Ghost shower. The devil’s children and ministers are telling all manner of false hoods against us here. But “blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness sake: for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven. Blessed are ye when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for My sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in Heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” — Matt. 5:10-12. O glory to our God for the persecuted way, the despised way, the straight and narrow way. Praise God for His wonderful dealings with the children of men! God bless all the dear saints at the TRUMPET OFFICE.

DEAR BRETHREN: — May the Lord bless you all forever. Amen! I know I am saved from this wicked world of sin; and nothing but the blood of Jesus could ever cleanse a poor sinner like me. I am saved from all sin, and walking with Him who died that I might have eternal life, O the glory that fills my soul each day and hour! I am out in the ocean of God’s love, filled with all the fullness of Christ. Hallelujah! I am free from all sin, with the victory over the world, the flesh and the devil. O praise God for the work He has wrought in my soul. Jesus loves a “broken spirit, and a contrite heart.” But we find that God hates a proud heart. But “He that hath clean hands and a pure heart, who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully, he shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.” — Psalm 24:4-5. Then let us live each moment so that we will be ready to meet Him when He comes. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” “Blessed are the peace makers, for they shall be called the children of God.” — Matt. 5:8, 9. I am doing all for Jesus, and in Him I am complete. Your Bro. saved, sanctified, and ready for the work.

To all the dear saints, greeting. May the grace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ abound in you all. I do praise God that He has brought me out into this marvelous light of the Gospel. Some over a year ago the Lord saved me, and kept me until last Fall, when I heard the straight Word preached. I realized there was more for me, and I willingly came before God, and He sanctified my soul. O I do thank God for the sweet peace He gives us. O praise the Lord for full and free salvation!

The Lord wonderfully blesses us in our meetings; there are five appointments a week. Praise God! we can just take God at His Word: it is food to my soul; still the devil is around seeking whom he may devour, but by the grace of God, I will serve Him. “Foes may hate, and friends may shun me, All must work for good to me.” Your sister in Christ.

Dear Brethren: — I can say I am saved with an everlasting salvation, resting with Jesus each day. I praise God for ever calling after me and that I listened to the call. We have no privilege of going to meeting here, but we have sweet communion with our Savior. I have just passed through a trial and have come out with victory. Glory to Jesus! I thank Him for bringing trials upon me; for the Word says, blessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he is tried he shall receive the crown of life which the Lord hath promised to them that love Him, and I know that I love Him and He has my whole heart. Your sister saved, sanctified and kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation, ready to be revealed in the last time.

Dear Brethren: — May God bless you all. I feel the blessed Holy Spirit burning in my soul. Praise God this morning for salvation, a freedom from sin. Sectarians tell us we can’t live without sin; but God’s Word tells us that whosoever abideth in Him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen Him, neither known Him. — 1 John. 3:6. Hallelujah! I have escaped old babylon and all of her snares. We can see her abominations everyday. May God keep all His little ones in His own name, filled with the power of God. This morning I can say that I am all the Lord’s. I love to do His commandments, Whoso keepeth His Word in him verily is the love of God perfected. — 1 John 2:5. May God bless the readers of the TRUMPET. Pray for us. Your Brother saved and sanctified.

Rising Son, O.

DEAR BRETHREN: — I do praise God for full salvation. When Brother Warner was here at this place and preached the true Word, I rejected it; but it still followed me. Then Bro. Kilpatrick come here and preached the true Word, and I accepted it. Praise God! I am justified and sanctified. I had been living in the sects and making a profession, but possessed nothing. The 9th of May as I was praying I asked God to forgive my sins, and He did pardon all of my sins. The 15th of May, while at prayer-meeting, the Holy Ghost came upon me and cleansed me from all unrighteousness — from tea, coffee, and tobacco, and from sects. I have the witness that my name is written in the Lamb’s book of life. From your saved Brother.

Glory to God! I am saved, sanctified, and washed in the blood of the Lamb. I praise God for sending Bro. Jacobson and other dear saints here to preach His Word. Many dear souls have been saved, and brought to the true light through faith in Jesus Christ. Glory to God! He has called me out of the M. E. sect, and I am now in the true Church of God. O praise His holy name forever! I have been healed of the rheumatism, with which I had been suffering for years. I do praise God fat the wonderful power of healing I felt by the laying on of hands, by the Elders: the pains went as their hands passed over me, and I am healed and sanctified by the all-cleansing blood of the Lamb.

Your brother, saved in Christ.
