Forward Christian.

—:o:—

Forward, forward christian soldier,
Keep the standard floating high.
Sound the Trumpet, Hallelujah!
Tell the world, the Lord is nigh.

Oh rejoice ye in whose bosom
Jesus’ love is reigning now;
For He keeps us pure and spotless,
Even whiter than the snow.

Look right up and keep the vict’ry,
Claim the promise, firm and true,
He has washed us and redeemed us,
And He’ll surely take us through.

We have given all to Jesus,
In His arms we rest secure,
He, our only Lord and Shepherd,
Helps us all things to endure.

Yes His blood, a living fountain,
Flowing o’er our inmost soul;
And His Spirit’s constant witness,
Proves to us that we are whole.

Let not Satan’s fiendish doctrine,
Hold us victims to his claim;
For he tells us: sin a little,
Then repent and sin again.

But we look within the scriptures,
Find there just what Jesus says:
Sin no more, for as tis written,
“He ye perfect all your days.”

We will keep the faith of Jesus,
Once delivered to the saints;
By His grace we’ll follow ever,
Him who healed our soul complaints

In the closing dispensation
Of the world, we’re living now,
And the Saviour soon is coming,
Every knee to Him shall bow.

Yes the evening light is shining,
Clearer brighter every day;
And the bride is now preparing,
Sure the Lord will not delay.

The satanic hosts are raging,
Foaming out their wrath and shame;
But the saints will have the vict’ry,
Have it now in Jesus’ name.

Bound the Trumpet blast still louder,
Let the earth in terror shake;
For the Lord it is who’s speaking,
Speaking now poor souls to wake.

Forward then ye happy soldiers,
Strong the Lord who leads us on;
We’re expecting soon to meet Him,
With a coronation song, —

Jennie I. Stow.

THE CHURCH.

The Church, congregation (Emphatic Diaglott) of the Living God is represented, in the Bible by various metaphors or figures, as well as set forth by direct description; and which always point to the God-head us her Author, Maker and Builder. In no sense is the authority of founding and organizing this glorious structure ever given to man; neither is the honor of maintaining and preserving her ascribed to him. The Lord our God is exclusive here, and man may as well undertake to build a universe, is to attempt to refute the Word, and rob God of the authority and power, and therefore the honor that pertains only to Himself, in regard to the Church, which is identical with Jesus Christ. True “we are workers with Him.” — 2 Cor. 6:1. Subject to His order, etc. but not designers or architects, founders or organizers.

We wish to note here, some of the different figures given in the Bible showing the relationship between Christ and His true followers. Thousands of people of to day, in this so-called enlightened age, hold the religion of Jesus Christ, as a very excellent — Nay even in some way essential — system of morals to be assented and subscribed to, without a conscious knowledge that it has power to penetrate the heart and is capable of entering into the inmost recesses of the soul changing and conforming the life of the individual possessing it, to the very “image of Him that created him.” For, “if any man be in Christ, be is a new creature.” This transformation does, and must necessarily take place in all those who constitute the Church for which He died, and none other can by any possible means be admitted. This is so evident from the Holy Scriptures, that it hardly needs stating here. But so blinded have people become through false teaching, that, they must have “line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little,” before they can, in any degree, comprehend this wonderful plan of salvation. And I do so praise my Heavenly Father that He is longsuffering to usword. We will consider the Church, or congregation, under the symbols of, — 1st. a building, 2nd. a house, 3rd. a tabernacle, 4th. a temple. 5th. a city, 6th. a mountain, 7th. a kingdom, proving, as we pass on, by the Word, the above statements; and the fact that the types used are complete in themselves, not only, but also correspond exactly with one another, and point to, or teach precisely the same truth. Praise God!, for the wondrous harmony of His Word.

We will turn to 1 Cor. 3:9, where Paul says “For we are laborers together with God; ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.” Now a building has a foundation and we want to examine, to begin with, whether the one under consideration is firm and substantial. “Other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ” — 1 Cor 3:11. “Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure having this seal the Lord knoweth them that are His” — 2 Tim. 2:19. “And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;” “in whom all the building fitly framed together, groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord,” “in whom ye also are builded together for ah habitation of God through the Spirit” — Eph. 2:20-22. We find by the above texts, that the people constitute the building, and Jesus Christ, the foundation and corner stone; and God says it “stands sure,” that it is put together just right, for it is “fitly framed” “in the Lord;” that it is put up, or built for a dwelling-place of God. Next, we wish to find who the builder or architect is. In Matt. 16:18, Jesus says “Upon this rock I will build my Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” We understand, by comparing this passage with Eph. 2:22 that Jesus is the builder of His Church, in the sense of being the architect. For “ye are builded together through the Spirit;” and Paul says “Now then we are embassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us.” — 2 Cor. 5:18-20. It is evident, then, that by the operations of the Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ rears this building, using human instruments to teach the Word. With Christ the designer, and the Holy Spirit the executive power, there can be no flaws nor mistakes in the building, and God is not afraid to lie in it.

We now pass to the 2nd figure of the Church, called a house. “But Christ as a Son over His own house; whose house are we if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.” — Heb. 3:6.

“Ye also as live stones, are built up a spiritual house, * * * to oiler up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God, by Jesus Christ.” — 1 Peter 2:5. And having an ligli priest over the house of God, * * * Let us draw near with a true heart, in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed in pure water.” — Heb. 10:21, 22.

Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it.” — Ps. 127:1. “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God, and if it first, begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the Gospel of God.” — 1 Peter 4:17. “But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God which is the Church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.” — 1 Tim. 3:12.

From the foregoing passages, we make the following deductions: — saved people constitute the house, Christ builds and owns it, and as “Christ’s God’s,” it is God’s house. We must “behave” ourselves and obey orders or we cannot, abide in God’s bouse. While we live in this Spiritual house, we must render spiritual service to be acceptable with Him. That which is rejected is nigh unto cursing, whose end is to be burned.” By the love of God every living stone is kept in its proper place until the temporary or ’’earthly house” reaches the point of desolation, when we are removed to Father’s eternal house of “many mansions,” where Jesus has prepared a place for us. Again we find nothing left for the frail human material to do, but allow themselves to be used. Praise God forever and ever!

Next we come to the tabernacle. “Lord who shall abide in the tabernacle, who shall abide in thy holy hill?” He that walketh uprightly and worketh righteousness — ‘The work of righteousess is peace’ — “and speaketh the truth in his heart.” — Ps. 15:1, 2. “And I heard a great voice out of heaven, saying: Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God. — Rev. 2:1-3. We have such a high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the majesty in the heavens: a minister of the sanctuary (margin, or holy thing) and true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched and not man.” — Heb. 8:1, 2. “But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands. — Heb. 9:11. “in Salem also is His tabernacle and His dwelling-place in Zion.” — Ps. 76:2. “For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion: in the secret of His tabernacle shall He hide me: He shall set me upon a rock.” “And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me. Therefore will I offer in His tabernacle sacrifices of joy, or shouting margin) Ps. 27:5, 6. also Ps. 61:4. Eze. 37:27.

“After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down, and I will build again the ruins thereof and I will set it up; that the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord who doeth all these things.” — Acts. 15:16, 17.

Now we turn to the temple. Know ye nor that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” “If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.” — 1 Cor. 3:17, 17. And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God: as God hath said I will dwell in them and walk in them: and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. — 2 Cor. 6:16. Praise God, these scriptures and many others we might quote, are very definite and plain, and need no comment. In Zech. 6:12, 13, we see who builds it. “And speak unto him saving, thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, saying, behold the man whose name is the Branch: and He shall grow up out of his place, and He shall build the temple of the Lord:” “Even He will build the temple of the Lord, and He shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon His throne, and He shall be a priest upon His throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both,” that is: between the Lord and His children. — (See also Rev. 7: 15.)

A few more texts showing that the Lord Jesus Himself is also this holy temple, will establish beyond doubt the relationship of Christ and His chosen ones as given in the above figure. “Destroy the temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” “But He spake of the temple of His body. Jno. 2:19, 21. “And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.” — Rev. 21:55. Also Ch. 15:5-8, and 11:19.

One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in His temple.” Ps. 27:4. “Howbeit the most high dwelleth not in temples made with hands.” Then it is clear the temple or Church, is built by Himself.

Next we will look at God’s city. — Praise God! Paul says: Abraham looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.” “But ye are come unto mount Zion and unto the city of the living God the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels.” “To the general assembly and Church of the First born, which are written in heaven, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect.” And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant.” etc. Heb. 12:22-24.

“And they shall call thee, The city of the Lord, the Zion of the Holy One of Israel.” — Isa. 60:14 “There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the Most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God shall help her, and that right early” — Ps. 46:4, 5.

“As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish, it forever.” — Ps. 48:8.

“And I John saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband” — Rev. 21:2.

“Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon Him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is New Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name” — Rev. 3:12.

Paul says, “Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all” — Gal. 4:26. Therefore we are her children. Praise our God! “Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together: whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord * * * to give thanks unto the name of the Lord” — Psa. 122:3, 4. Read the whole Psalm — the Lord builds this wonderful city. The Lord and the people constitute it, and dwell therein.

As a key to unlock all doubts in regard to the Church, being represented as a mountain in the Word, we will take Heb. 12:22 in connection with the 23d verse, where Paul uses the term Mount Zion synonomously with Church; and in Lamentations 5:18, the prophet deplores the then spiritual condition of the mountain of Zion; but that the term mountain is applied more particularly to the Church in her purified state than in her mixed condition, is very evident. When John was shown the “Lamb’s wife,” he was carried “to a great and high mountain” — Rev. 21:10; whereas when he was shown the “great whore,” he was carried “into the wilderness.” The “wilderness” represents mixed religion; and the “mountain,” the place where the “just men are made perfect.” Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised In the city of our God, in the mountain of His holiness.” — Psa. 48:1 (read the whole Psalm). “They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain” — Isa. 11:9. “And in this mountain shall the Lord of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a least of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined. And He will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people, and the vail that is spread over all nations * * * For in this mountain shall the hand of the Lord rest.” — Isa. 25:6, 7, 10. Yes, and it is here that He “will swallow up death in victory,” etc., verses 8, 9. “Thus saith the Lord, I am returned unto Zion and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem; and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the Lord of hosts, the holy mountain * * * Thus saith the Lord of hosts, behold I will save my people from the east country and from the west country; and I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem; and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness” — Zech. S: 3, 7, 8. Read also Eze. 28:14-16; Eze. 17:22-24. Again, we find the Lord and His children dwell together in the same exalted position, cast up by His own strong hand. “When the Lord shall build up Zion He shall appear in His glory.” And “when the Lord of hosts shall reign in Mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before His ancients gloriously,” then “fear, and the pit, and the snare” will be upon the inhabitants of the earth, or upon the unsaved. “The haters of the Lord should have submitted themselves unto Him” The 7th illustration we have chosen, is a kingdom. Speaking of the Gospel dispensation, the prophet Daniel testified, “And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever” — Dan. 2:44. Men cannot organize this kingdom, neither can they maintain it; for God sets it up, and does not leave it to other people. Hear also what the prophet Isaiah declares concerning this glorious gospel age — “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God. The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon His kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this” — Isa. 9:6, 7. As we pass down the ages, we find this same “holy child Jesus,” when he lad entered on His public ministry began to proclaim this kingdom, and commissioned the “seventy” whom He sent forth “heal the sick that are therein and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you” — Luke 10:9. Farther on, we find the apostle Paul tells us in Col., that we we gratitude to the Father, “who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son” — Col. 1:13. Again Paul says, “The Kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, and peace and joy in the Holy Ghost” — Rom. 14:17. “I, John, who also am your brother and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the Word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. — Rev. 1:9. “Therefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, where by we may serve God acceptable with reverence and Godly fear.” — Heb. 15:28. “Hearken, my beloved brethren, hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which He hath promised to them that love Him!” — Jas. 2:5. “Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” — Luke, 12:32. Matt. 25:34. Let us therefore, not “be of doubtful mind,” knowing that the Lord worketh every thing, after the council of His own sweet will, and we have only to obey Him in all things.

I feel led of the Lord to write my testimony. I praise God for a full and free salvation, that keeps me sweet in my soul. Oh I am rejoicing in the Lord. I thank God for sending Bro. Warner and company here to preach the straight Bible truth, and to show the people where they were drifting. I thank God that I was ever led to come and accept Christ as my Saviour, and give up all I was very proud, but when I was willing to give up all, He sanctified my soul. O such a wonderful blessing and sweet peace filled my soul; I feel just like shouting praises to God. He has taken all the pride out of me; and is my satisfying portion.

I ask the prayers of the saints that I may ever be found faithful and low at the feet of Jesus.

Your sister saved and kept by the power of God.

Dear Saints: — I feel led of God to write my testimony. When 15 years of age I gave my heart to God, and at the same time my name to the M. E. sect, and have been in it till to-day. Praise God! I am out of babylon, and into Christ my living head. I felt much of my time as if there was something more that I wanted. Three months ago God sent dear brother Warner to Crowland to preach the more perfect way. I sought and found entire sanctification; my dear husband was justified, and received sanctification at the same time. Glory to God for what He has done for us. I have been very bad with lung trouble two weeks; but thank God, I went to Him as my physician; praise God! He has healed me, and I give Him all the glory. My husband praises God often, for sending brother Warner and his Co. here to show him the true light.

We are kept by His mighty power from all sin. Your brother and sister in Christ.

NEW CHURCH TRACT.

—:o:—

WE have just printed a new tract by D. S. Warner, of nearly 40 pages the size of the Sabbath tract. It is carefully written, and very forcibly shows, the Divine origin, foundation, head, door, membership, organization, holiness, and unity of the Church, and the basis of unity. It also distinguishes between the True Church, and all sects. Shows the evil of Schisms, and proves the perfection and practicability of the Church, as founded by Christ, and set forth in the New Testament, without any man-made machinery, creeds, systems and manipulations. It refutes the falsehood that we have to be a sect, and nails every thing down to the Word.

Would to God that we could send it free every where. But it costs paper, ink, mailing expense etc. But we put it down just as cheap as we can, to cover expenses, and what we may give to the poor who cannot pay.

Camp and Gtove Meeting List.

—+o+—

NOTICE.

In the lust Trumpet, W. A. Moore announced that a camp-eemting would be held at Osawatomie, Kan., we have since learned that it is to be held by sect holiness and anti-ordinance people whose teaching is not in accordance with the word of God, and the saints of God should not be partakers with them, nor receive their poisonous doctrine.

There will be a grove meeting, commencing July 4th, in Joseph Bleak’s grove, three and one half miles north-west of Antwerp Ohio, on the north side of the Maumee river. We trust God will send some one here to help in the good work. By the help of God all that come will be well cared for. We will meet you at Antwerp, July 3rd, the day before the meeting. Let all come and have a great feast, and help to save souls.

Yours in the love of Christ.

H. Sweet & G. Shimer.

A grove meeting in Bro. S Trip’s grove in Cheshire Township, Allegan Co. Mich., will begin, the Lord willing, July 12th to continue over Sabbath. We pray the Lord to send some of his ministers to assist in the work

A boarding tent will be on the ground, and all who are poor, and worthy, will be provided for freely. We hope to see a large assembly of the “holy people” met there, and showers of blessings come down on all our souls. Amen!

GROVE-MEETING NEAR SIDNEY, OHIO.

AUG. 27 to SEPT. 2 ’89. Concerning which Bro. A. J. Fosnight of Sidney Ohio, writes: “We have a beautiful grove. We expect to build one large tent on the ground to accommodate as many as possible. We expect a number of the saints from all parts. We believe it is the will of God to send us some workers that have not been here before, but we welcome whoever He may send. The saints here are all very free, and we say, come all that can.”

AT RIDGEVILLE, HENRY CO., OHIO,

THERE is a call for a grove-meeting. A brother that can speak the German language is much desired there. We do not know when this meeting can be held. The Lord move some one to send the appointment. If any brother will say when he can go there, we feel assured that Bro. Spackey of Jerry City Ohio will go and deliver the Lord’s message in German. Some one please to respond this call, and in form us, and Bro. John Brodbeck, Archbold, Fulton Co., Ohio.

THE CHILDREN’S PAPER.

We are Glad to announce that the children’s paper is now being published by Bro. C. L. Kaumeyer, Chippawa, Ont. We are in receipt of a number of copies of the first issue, and can heartily recommend it to all our friends, as a valuable publication filled with Gospel truth, and is interesting to both old and young, and it should be in every family for the benefit of the children. The price is only 30 cents per year, and is published semi-monthly.

__________

We have on hands at present, a few articles and a large number of testimonies which we have had to defer publication for want of space, but will be published soon, as the Lord directs. Some testimonies have been laid aside because no name was signed; others were written with a pencil and can-not be read. We are always glad to hear from the saints everywhere, and to know what the Lord is doing for His children.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

—:o:—

BANGOR CAMP-MEETING.
VICTORY!!

LET all the lovers of God praise the name of Jesus for the glorious victory enjoyed, and the marvelous work of God wrought by the Lord at this meeting. As we had prayed and anticipated, this meeting was the best we ever saw. A great host of saints was present, and the glorious presence and melting power of God rested on the camp from beginning to end. With the exception of the first night there was not a meeting without a number of seekers at the altar. O how God in His infinite compassion did work on the hearts of the people and constrain them to yield to the love of Jesus! Blessed be His holy name! “O that men would praise the Lord for His goodness and for His wonderful works to the children of men.” Truly, “the people were willing in the day of His power, in the beauty of holiness from the womb of the morning.” No less than 300 souls were saved during the 8 days, including both those who were converted, and those who were sanctified wholly. Quite a number received healing of their bodies by the power of God. The order was very good. Up to Sabbath the weather was very propitious, but on the Lord’s day the Lord sent a rain, and kept away the great overflow of people who could not have been much profited. The forenoon was a glorious victory. First there was testimony service in which 250 witnesses praised God for complete salvation. After which the mighty establishing grace of God was preached by one of His ministers, following which the Altar was filled with earnest seekers of the same, who proved these words: — “He that seeketh findeth.” Notwithstanding the rain, the pavillion was crowded.

In the afternoon, the weather having somewhat cleared up, the people came in and filled up the grounds. Though there was quite a press of people, quite a number were saved in the afternoon meeting. On Tues. evening we observed the precious ordinances of the New Testament — the washing of the saints’ feet, and the Lord’s supper. Of all the holy communion services we have ever witnessed, we think this was the most sacred and melting. The whole congregation of saints seemed to be sealed about the actual crucifixion scene, and many wept aloud the love of Him who died for us all. Blessed be His holy name forever and ever!

There were sixteen buried until Christ in baptism.

There was quite a host of dear ministerial brethren and sisters, and field workers present, who, with the holy people generally, labored faithfully and effectual-

ly in persuading men and women to come to God. God bless all the dear ones! How near they are to our heart: their names are all in the book of life, but we cannot, in this hasty report, record their names. Praise God! there were many went out from that meeting to glean wheat for the Master. Bro. and sister Wm. N. Smith go to Nebraska; Bro. Jacobson working north; Bro. and sister Haner, brother and sister Sharpnack, and sister Nannie Donnell, will labor together. Other companies are being formed. The great battle is being pressed in every direction, and there shall be no peace to babylon in all the land. Bless the Lord! O what a feast it was to our soul to see so many beloved saints of God assembled together. O how the waves of glory rolled over the camp! The weight of glory was upon all souls. What joy, what heavenly bliss! All hearts could but cry out, wonderful! wonderful!! glory!!! Praise God forever! Amen.

A GLORIOUS, AND TRIUMPHANT MEETING.

Praise the Lord of heaven for His marveleus work wrought in the meeting 15 miles from Lima, Lagrange Co., Ind., June 5-9. We are thankful to God that it pleased Him to send us to that feast. Truly it was a joyful refreshing from the presence of the Lord. The glorious Christ who dwells in our heart was most graciously manifested in the meeting. And O! what joy it was to our soul to meet the dear saints. There were present ministerial brethren, Bro. J. P. Haner and companion from Kan., and some other workers with them, Bro. A. J. Kilpatrick, Bro. and sister Drowley, Bro. and sister Wm. N. Smith, Bro. Cross, and the Gooding brethren, and Bro. Allen Eargood, who live in that country and have been successfully laboring in the Lord. The blessed work of the Lord is going fast forward in that county. O bless the name of the Lord!

The meeting was held in a good sized building of Bro. Snow’s which served a very good purpose, but was not large enough to accommodate all that came. There were from three to eight souls bowed down before God and sought His pardoning mercy, or sanctifying fulness, in each of the two daily meetings. And on the Lord’s day, three meetings were held, which covered all the day from 10 A. M. to 10 P. M., except one intermission of about two hours. Many souls found Jesus a precious Savior that day, and there was great joy in heaven and on earth. O what leaping and shouting the high praises of God! There were several dear souls restored and sanctified wholly who had strayed away from God. Some of them seemed to have reached the very brink of eternal despair. O what infernal chains of darkness bound them fast! what deep, heart-breaking throes of repentance! O what a bitter cup of gall pressed their lips, ere the rays of heaven’s mercy pierced their thick vail of darkness, and the almighty Redeemer “broke their chains asunder,” and burst the bars of their wretched prison, and rolled away the awful fears of hell. O let every child of God take warning and endure to the end; for satan has come down having great wrath, knowing that he has but a short time, and unless you keep hid with Christ in God your soul is more than ever before in danger of eternal damnation. O these are indeed perilous times! May God keep those souls from ever “laying the foundation for repentance again.”

Just before the close of day we observed the holy ordinances of washing the saints’ feet, and the Lord’s supper. O how the dear ones were blessed in the deed! But the solemn sacredness of the occasion was somewhat interrupted for the want of more room. In the neighborhood of 60 or 70 saints were present to participate.

Bro’s Wm. R. Gooding and A. M. Eargood received the laying on of hands, in ordination to the work of the ministry. May God bless them with power and grace, wisdom and love, to turn many to righteousness. O may God keep them and all His dear ministers pure, meek and lowly, and perfect in His sight, amen

Dear Bro. Kilpatrick remained yet two days, to carry on the meeting, and we expect to hear of more souls finding Jesus.

—:o:—

Henderson, Pa., June 2, ’89.

Dear Saints: — May the Lord bless you all abundantly for Jesus’ sake. This has been a glorious day to our soul. We have been to visit the saints at Mechanicsville. The Lord was there in power.

Page 3

We had an examination meeting, to see how we measured up to the Word of God. Two came to the conclusion that they were not satisfied with their present experience, and wanted to be sanctified. We had altar service, and the Lord sanctified them wholly, and caused them to shout the high praises of God. O, it was glorious to see the brethren praising God with uplifted hands. May God ever keep those dear ones filled with his power, and sealed with His holy Spirit, until He shall say “it is enough, come up higher.” The Lord brought us back to Henderson for 4 o’clock meeting. Father Gadsby came with us. He wishes mo to tell you he knows he is saved, and he is very happy in Jesus. He gets so full he cannot express himself in words; but he says he can say enough for the. World to see which side he is on. He says he has put his hand to the plow never to draw back. He wishes to be remembered in prayer.

The meeting at Henderson was one of power. The saints were made to leap and shout for joy. May the Lord bless the lambs of the flock, and keep them from being overcome by the power of the wicked one.

If the Lord wills we expect to go to Chapenville 2 weeks from to-day to hold meeting over Sunday. Pray much for us that the Lord may use us to His glory, and much good be done in that place.

Yours in the love of Jesus.

J. S. Perrine.

Carthage Mo. June, 3, ’89.

Dear Saints: — This morning I know that God is sweetly saving and keeping my soul. Bless God, we have been holding meeting 8 miles west of this place, in Jesus name. Only a very few accepted full salvation. Praise God for the few; one or two who had been in babylon for years, came out for God and got an experience. Praise God forever and ever! though the fullness of the gentiles have come in, a few precious grains may yet he gathered in. Glory to Jesus! Pray for us.

Yours saved in Jesus’ blood. Hallelujah!

Dearly delayed saints: — We feel led by the Spirit of God once more to report to the TRUMPET, how the work is progressing in these parts. We left home May 22, and went to a place 6 miles north west of Versailles, Ohio; where we began meeting in the name of king Jesus, on the evening of the 24, where we were met by Bro. H. C. Wickersham and others from New Pittsburg Ind. We tarried at that place a few days, during which God saved four souls from sin by His almighty power. Hallelujah to God forever! At the close of the meeting, live souls were buried with Christ in baptism. From there we returned to our home near Donnelsville.

I request all the dear saints of God to pray for me, that I may be kept low down at the feet of Jesus, always abounding in every good work. Your Bro. in Christ.

Dear Brethren: — We are saved and kept by the power of God, free from all sin. Hellelujah! God is using us to His glory in these parts. We have held 3 meetings, and there were 4 consecrations for holiness and 1 conversion; others are under deep conviction. One sister has called for her name from the F. M. sect. We held two meetings in our school-house, and the Word of God is taking wonderful effect on the people, also mighty works of healing are being wrought. — All the glory belongs to God. We are out on the blood and fire line for Jesus. Hallelujah! We do not shun to declare the whole counsel of God, standing firm on the solid rock which the gates of hell shall not prevail against. The devil is under our feet, and we are reigning with Jesus Christ, having victory over all the works of the devil. Hallelujah!

O what strife and contention there is among the sects, and some we find, are sick of the works of the devil, and are glad to come out and find a sweet home in Jesus. Praise His name! We find such wherever God sends us, and also poor sinners not knowing where to go, readily accept the truth, and forsake sin and satan.

Dear brethren pray for us, and the work of God in this place. My dear husband has been spared to work with me thus far and Jesus is mightily in our midst, doing the work through us, and all the glory shall be His forever and ever. Amen!

From your Wood washed sister.

OBITUARIES.

Nora B. Caruther, daughter of Henry R. and Mary E. Jeffery, departed this life to dwell with Jesus, June 2, 1889; She was 20 years and 9 months of age. She had lived with her husband, Wm. Caruther, a little over one year. She goes to join her brother and her darling babe that preceded her to glory but a few days. She was prepared to go, leaving a bright testimony behind her. Her funeral was June 4, at Wabash, where she resided.

OUR NORA, IN GLORY.

Dear Nora we must leave you now,
No farther can we go,
To Him who calleth thee we will bow,
With thee, ’tis well we know:

The parting hour has come at last,
With grief our hearts are pressed,
Thy pilgrimage so brief is past,
And thou art gone to rest.

We saw thee in thy latest hour,
When heaven was so near:
Thy smiling face bespoke a power
That banished every fear.

We cannot, will not, say thou’rt dead,
But only gone before,
To watch with loved ones, till we come,
Upon the golden shore.

We premise this, dear darling one,
Who’rt gone to dwell on high,
That when our earthly race is won,
We’ll meet beyond the sky.

Yes Father, Mother, Sisters dear,
And Brothers too, will meet:
With husband, one, to thee most dear,
Thy sainted form will greet.

A farther word of love we bring
Thy many loving friends,
Who watched and cared for thee while here
In memory still attends.

Dear Nora, we can’t say farewell,
Because ’tis well with thee:
And soon we’ll come with thee to dwell,
And with thee ever be.

Father.

Verna E. Sucker, aged 8 years 8 months and 13 days, passed away to be with the angels in heaven. She died of consumption. Verna was born in Ill., where she lived with her parents until she was about live years old, when her mother died of the dreaded disease, consumption. Her father then sent her to Mo. for us to care for, and we found her a good home with Uncle William and Aunt Jane Mashburn. May God bless them for their great kindness to her. Verna was such a favorite with them that it was like giving up their own child. “But the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.” Blessed be the name of the Lord.

On June the 10, 1886, in the town of Everline, Charlevoix Co. Mich., sister Ella Spidle changed earth for a home with Jesus. Sister Ella died in the triumphs of a living faith. Being asked but a short time before she passed away, if she feared death; she exclaimed. “O no I had rather go than stay.” and sweetly fell asleep in Jesus. Her age was 17 years, 5 months! and 18 days. Funeral services were held at the house; after which the remains were taken to the Sheldon Cemetry, and laid to rest. We pray God’s blessings to rest upon dear Bro. and sister Spidle in their sorrow; and may you look to Him who is able to comfort our hearts as no earthly friend can do; and may you ever keep fresh in your memory the promise you made Ella to “Meet me over there.”

“But a little season only
Ere the hearts that here are one,
Shall forever be united
In the realms beyond the sun.

“Love cannot be quenched by dying,
But will purer stronger grow;
Wipe away the tears at parting,
Loose the cable let me go.”

Dearly Beloved Saints: — Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome the world: for greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God and if we love one another we are born of God and know God, for we know not the love of God but by His spirit. In this was manifested the love of God toward us because God sent His only begotten Son into the world that we might live through Him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. O how I do praise God for His goodness to us in saving our souls. Glory to Jesus! Christ is dearer to me than ever before. My testimony is I am saved from all the love of the world and casting all my care upon Jesus, amen.

Dearly Beloved: — Praise the Lord for this blessed evening light, the pure gospel of the blessed Lamb of God that taketh away the sins of the world. Glory be to God for the salvation of my soul! Praise God for salvation that saves from all sin and keeps us all the time. I was a sect! prisoner for 18 years. Glory to God! for my deliverance. God bless all the dear saints. Dear Saints: — I was justified 9 years ago while living in the Methodist sect. Brother and sister Bolds were with us two years ago, and I consecrated everything to God and was gloriously sanctified; saved out of all sects, and free in Christ Jesus. Since then I have lived up to all the light I have had. We have not had very much teaching, and there are but few here that are saved. We have many trials, and the devil tries to make me give up, but glory lo God for the victory. I know I am in the blessed vine. Pray for us. Your sister in Christ

Dearly Beloved Saints: — May God abundantly bless and keep you all in the name of Jesus. I thank God for complete victory in my soul just now. I want to tell to all the TRUMPET readers, that God saved me from the Roman Catholic church — the mother of harlots — over eight years ago. Since then I never had a desire to go back because I know the kings of the earth are drunk on the wine of the wrath of her fornication. And the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.

I am all on the altar, and the blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth me from all sin and sanctifies me wholly. Amen!

Dear Saints: — I praise the Lord this morning for real salvation. Glory to Jesus! I am saved and sanctified, ready to do the will of the Lord. The dear Lord sent one of His servants here to preach the true Gospel, which was rejected by the masses. I became so convicted that I could not reject the Word, and now I am a child of God. I have placed my feet upon the solid Rock against which the gates of hell shall not prevail.

Pray for me that I may live a life wholly devoted to God.

Dear Saints: — I feel impressed to give a little of my experience for the TRUMPET. and the glory of God.

I felt for years that I ought to give my heart to the Lord, but was so hardened in sin I was not willing to give up. I made vows in most every protracted meeting but satan held me back every time. Last summer death came to our door, which I belive was the means in the hands of God to lead us to Christ. I remained in sin until last winter. The saints were holding a meeting in Pelham, and I attended regular. I thought I would not make a start in their meetings for I thought they preached a little too plain, but after I gave my heart to Jesus, the preaching just suited me.

Praise God! I found in Christ the experience I sought for. I am on my way rejoicing to Heaven with complete salvation in my soul from all sin.

I am your sister all the Lord’s.

Trumpet Readers: — We feel led to write a few words to inform you that we are still trusting in the Lord. We praise God for full salvation. Will some minister of God, full of the Holy Ghost, come to this place and hold a meeting? We would be glad to hear the straight Word of God preached. We belive there could be much good accomplished at this place, in the name of Jesus.

Dear Brethren: — I feel led of the Lord to write my testimony. I thank God for a full and free salvation in Christ Jesus. I have complete victory over the beast and over his image and over the number of his name. Glory to Jesus! I know I am saved and sanctified also kept by power divine. Glory be to God! I am now free in Christ Jesus, and led day by day by His Spirit.

“Here in is our love made pefect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment, because as He is, so are we in this world.”

I also praise God for healing power, sister Nellie Moore was healed, of throat disease one night after meeting, by the laying on of hands and prayer, and since that she has been testifying she is healed in the name of Jesus. One of the sisters at Crowland, went to the Methodist sect to have her name taken off of their class book, the preacher asked why she wanted her name, I and she told him the Lord led her to do so.

We read in the Word. “As many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”

Dear Saints: — As I just now got through reading the TRUMPET, I am led to write my testimony to the glory of God. I can truly say this after-noon that the blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth me from all sin. Six years after my conversion, I made a full consecration, when I gave up all to God, and was baptized with the Holy Ghost, I received a moral cleansing, as a second work of grace, which took away all pride out of my heart.

Dear Saints: — I do feel led by the Spirit of God this morning to write a short sketch to the GOSPEL TRUMPET giving my experience and a few words of exhortation to the unsaved. I praise the Lord for ever and ever! Jesus saves me now and sanctifies me. Hallelujah! I thank God that I was ever convicted of sin. When God saves, He saves from sin: Glory to Cod!

My earnest prayer is that many honest souls will be saved during the Bangor camp-meeting as well as other ones, who are led captive by the devil. I am glad that the powers of darkness are being made manifest by the true light. The devil often gets mad at God’s people in this community; but Glory to God the good work goes on. If you want to make the devi mad just say “sanctification,” or “Amen!” A christain loves what God loves!

May God send the awakening power to the dead professors, is my prayer.

Holiness! holiness! holineasl!! What the people needs is holiness.

I ask an interest in the prayers of the saints that I may ever be given up to God’s service.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — I feel led this morning that it would be to the glory of God to write my testimony for the Lord. I can say with a believing heart, that I am saved and wholly sanctified to the Lord. I praise God this morning for the saving grace that keeps me from all sin. The Word of God says in 2 Cor. 6:14. be not unequally yoked together with unbelievers, but to come out from among them and be separate, saith the Lord. And if we obey the Lord’s commands we have the promise that He will be a father us, and we hall be His sons and daughters I praise God that my eyes have opened to the truth, and that I have walked in the light that God gave me on His Word; and after having the blessed promise of God being a father to us. Paul says: let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. His commandments are easy to keep after getting down under the blood. I am cleansed from tobacco, beer, foolish talking, and all things contrary to the will of God.

I ask an interest in the prayers of all God’s people, that I may be one that will endure to the end.

Dear Saints: — The Gospel Trumpet is food to my soul, it brought me from sect babylon, to the marvelous light of Jesus Christ, where I rejoice this morning in perfect freedom. I am free from all sin and the power of the enemy. I first belonged to the Evangelical sect, but was never satisfied. I then joined the church of God (so called) about eight years ago. I thought they took the Word of God for their Guide. But learned different since I became acquainted with the Gospel light; and have a living witness in my soul. O praise God for a pure salvation!

I am the only one in this place out clear for God; the rest belong to sect babylon. I was brought into the light through the preaching of Bro. G. T. Clayton and Bro. Evans. Dear Saints: — God is my refuge, and has become my salvation; of whom shall I be afraid, the dear Lord has done great things for me, whereof I am glad. My soul has escaped as a bird from the snares of the devil; the snare is broken and I have escaped. Praise the Lord! I shall ever praise cd for sending dear brother F. N. Jacobson to this place. I feel that there has been much good done in the name of Jesus. A few souls have been saved and sanctified, and are rejoicing in the truth, others were convinced and acknowledged the truth, but were unwilling to yield. Oh I thank God that I ever read the GOSPEL TRUMPET; through its teachings I received light on the one Church, and saw the sin and evils of sectism. Praise the Lord! I am in the narrow way with Jesus, and the resolute few who dare to oppose sin of every kind, the king of heaven is our leader, and no other will we know. I was once a free Methodist, but now I am “free from babel in the spirit, free to worship God aright; joy and gladness we’re receiving, oh how sweet this evening light.” Pray for me and the little ones in this place.

June, 14, 1889.

Dear Saints of the most high God. — Love, peace, and fellowship to all God’s dear saints scattered over this broad land, Amen! and Amen!! I started from home — St. James, Mo. — June 10th, for Bangor camp-meeting, through much opposition of the devil, for he did not want me to come. Well as I left my dear companion and little babe, little did I realize the greatness and the wonderful blessings which awaited me. When I came to Chicago, while waiting for the boat, I was wandering through the streets of that great city all alone, seeing nothing but wickedness and sin, and the devil tried to make me wish myself back home. Then the cheering thought came sweetly to me that “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.” Well glory to Jesus! I got aboard the boat traveled the distance of eighty miles on lake Mich., reaching South Haven at five o’clock A. M., thence to Grand Junction where I met the dear Trumpet family all on fire with the sweetness in their souls. We had a hallelujah time in greeting each other, leaping and praising God. I never visited a place which seemed more like home than with the folks there. Oh the sweet fellowship and oneness, all the same family; Father smiling down on us all. After we were all refreshed in gathering around their holy table spread with the precious comforts of life, we all went to camp-ground. Yet I did not realize heaven so much until I stepped on the campground. Oh the waves and glory just wafted me beyond comprehension. Heaven itself surely came down to the sanctified wholly. Glory! Glory!! Glory!!! Souls came flocking to the altar the very first invitation. This is the third day of the meeting, and it seems that souls are just melted to tears as soon as they get on the ground. You can hear them crying for mercy all around; the altar being full every service. Well praise God, after traveling the distance of five hundred miles, I have arrived here among God’s people, where I hear the Great Shepherd’s voice in thunder tones, that is awakening the dead. Glory to Jesus!

Dear brethren I am here to do God’s will; and that will is for me to instruct the dear saints in music, and do what little I can and fill my place in the body. I expect to teach a few schools around here, then if any of the brethren desire, I will be pleased to answer any call they may send. All the charge I shall make to the saints is enough to pay my traveling expenses, and whatever they see fit to give me will be gladly received. My address until further notice, Grand Junction, Mich.. Your Bro. redeemed from all the powers of darkness.

We send greeting to the Trumpet family and all its readers: — We are saved and kept by the power of God from all sin; although surrounded by sectarians, sin, and confusion, we are holding up the light of God’s truth the best we can. The Methodist have been holding college prayer meetings in this neighborhood and they invited us to come to their meeting, and we went last Tuesday night. I never attended a meeting that there was so little spirituality in the midst of so many professors; they were destitute of salvation. Oh I pity their poor souls. Praise God He helped us to talk and gave us the spirit of prayer and they acted as though they never heard the like before. I wish some of the saints would come here and hold meeting and preach to this people; I believe that good will be done if we just hold on to God by faith. Pray for us that we may be kept low at the feet of Jesus and and that He may have His own way with us. Your Bro. and sister in Christ.

Dear Saints: — I can say with a clear conscience that I am a true child of God, and praising Him for full and free salvation ever since he saved my soul from the darkness of this world. My soul is filled with such sweet peace and rest, and I would be glad to see more people serving God in the beauty of holiness. There are a few saints at this place who meet twice a week, and the Lord is in our midst. We have had diphtheria in our family. The children had it very bad; but since the Lord has saved my soul, I take Him as my physician at all times. The people said those children would die because we would not get a doctor. Well, praise God, they are up now, and the ones that had the doctor nearly all died.

If the people would only trust God they would not need any earthly physician. I can never praise Him enough for what He has done, and is still doing for me. My way is growing brighter every day, and I pray God to do as much for other poor sinners as He did for me. He justified my soul and then sanctified me wholly, and now I am happy to say that He keeps me pure, and I have the witness that my name is written in heaven.

Your sister saved and sitting at the feet of Jesus.

Dearly Beloved Saints of the Living God: — One year ago last fall the Lord found me a sinner low down in the gutter. But now in my heart is no sin. Praise the Lord! I am sanctified and filled with His Holy Spirit. He keeps me each day from all sin, and I praise Him for this wonderful salvation, and the blessed evening light. I have the victory over the world, the flesh and the devil. Pray for me Your Bro. saved and kept by the power of God.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — I praise the Lord for His goodness to the children of men. I was hedged in, as it were, by the sect religions, but by the grace of God I broke loose and came out from among them, and met with the dear saints at New Pittsburg. Praise the Lord for the joy that filled my soul while I heard the Word in its purity. Praise the Lord! I am out of babylon. I am alone yet the Lord is with me. Praise His name!

Dear Saints: — My testimony is that I am saved with an everlasting salvation. I just praise God for this glorious high way of holiness for God’s little ones to walk on. Pray for me that I ever stand firm for Jesus. Your Bro. in Christ, saved and sanctified to do the whole will of God.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — It is for the glory of God that I write my testimony. I can say that I am fully saved and kept by His mighty power, ready to be revealed in the last day. I am freed from all sect bands, carnality and filthiness of the flesh; walking in the light as He is in the light. I praise God for the unity of the Spirit that binds God’s children together in love. Oh may God open the eyes and understanding of many more, that they may be brought in this marvelous light before time shall close upon them. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works lest any man should boast. — Eph. 2:8. 9.

May God wonderfully strengthen and keep the dear ones at this place is my earnest prayer. I am your Bro. saved.

Dear Saints: — I feel led of the Lord to testify what He has done for my soul.

He has cleansed me from all sin, and made me pure in His own blood. I also praise Him for His healing, and keeping power. I do praise God, for sending Bro. Warner and Co, into these parts, to preach the Gospel to us who were lost in sin. Since I am saved, I do love to do the whole will of God, in all things.

Dear Saints of God: — I feel led of God to write my testimony.

Praise the Lord! I have the witness within that I am born of the Holy Spirit and have truly stepped over into the promise land, and am led in green pastures where I behold my Savior. I feel that I am walking in the beautiful light of God. Praise His worthy name!

Of late the Lord has sent unto us one of His Holy Ghost ministers (Bro. W. J. Evans) to hold up the truth to us in His dear name. May the Lord ever bless and keep him, and send more out in the field to preach the truth to the people. I am your sister saved by the blood of Jesus.

Dear Saints: — I praise God for ever saving my soul, and also my wife. We praise God for sending Bro’s G. T. Clayton C. W. Koonce and Co. through this country last winter, for they were instrumental in bringing us to a knowledge of the truth as it is in Jesus. We both became convinced of the truth and importance of entire sanctification, and came out from the midst of sect babylon, and openly consecrated to God; He saved and sanctified our souls, and made us whiter than snow. We are now praising God for full salvation, that keeps onr hearts pure and free from all sin. Praise Jesus forever and ever!

We belonged to different sects and were always at variance in points of religion, both being without salvation, until we were made one in spirit by the cleansing power of the Holy Ghost. Our sects are in a rage because we left them. But whether we should obey God rather than the sect, judge ye.

Your saved Bro. and sister.

Dear Brethren: — May God bless you all in the name of Jesus, and fill your hearts with constant peace, love and joy in the Holy Ghost. I praise God for victory over the world, flesh and the devil. The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses me from all sin, and makes me pure and white. I am sanctified by the Holy Ghost and kept by the power of God unto salvation. The Lord is so precious to my son just now.

Companion and myself have just returned from Langdon, where we went last Sunday to visit the saints and preach the truth to the people of that place. We found the saints on the rock; and all seemed to be living in all the light they had received. May God wonderfully lead them and give them victory at all times over the enemy of their souls amen!

We praise God for the way He is leading His people at Stafford. We are growing stronger in the Lord every day. We have meeting at Stafford, Lula Valley, and Langdon station, and the Lord is raising up laborers at this place, to preach the word, and work in the vinyard of the Lord. I pray God to bless all the saints all over the land. And expose all sham holiness and hypocricies. The Campbelites, have begun to preach holiness, but still they go on in the same old rut. May God open the eyes of the blind. Your saved Bro. under the blood. Pray for me dear ones that God will continue to keep me humble. Amen!

Dear Trumpet: — I praise God for the salvation of my soul, and freedom from all sin. I feel that I am led by the burning Spirit of my blessed Lord and King. O glory be to God! He is leading me on to Eden’s fair land; it is the home of my soul, the land of the blest.

“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils” Oh, I pray God to keep by His mighty power from the by and forbidden paths of sin, glory to God! He keeps me in the green pastures, and feeds me upon the bread of life. “And Jesus said unto them: I am the bread of life, he that cometh to me shall never banger, and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”

Oh, praise God for His salvation and promises! “Teach me Thy way, O Lord and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies, deliver me not over to the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses have risen against me and such breathe out cruelty.”

I will rejoice and praise His name forever! “For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous and His ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.” who is he that will harm yon if ye be followers of that which is good. But if ye suffer for righteosness sake happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meek- and fear.”

Yours in Christ.

Dear Readers: — As I have never spoken through the GOSPEL TRUMPET, I will add my testimony. I was justified, Aug. 17, ’86, and sanctified Aug. 21, ’86. Hallelujah! Ever since I have been laboring for God, and He wonderfully pays me for my work. Bless His name forever more. He gives me plenty to eat, drink, and wear all the time, and gives me a white robe of righteousness. Bless the Lord! I was in a meeting at Barnesville Kan, with Bro. and sister Ellis. There were several consecrations.

I know that God sanctifies me and keeps me just now.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — “May grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus Christ our Lord. That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work; strengthened with all might according to His glorious power; giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light. Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son.”

“O wonderful redemption, God’s remedy for sin!” Christ “being made perfect He became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him.” — Heb. 5:9. Again Jesus says’: “verily verily I say unto you, he that believeth on me the works that I do, shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do because I go to my Father. He that hath my commandments and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me, and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father. And I will love him and will manifest myself to Him.” Praise God for the many sweet and precious promises to His children. Surely I can testify that He manifests Himself in healing the sick and curing diseases in obedience to His Word in this part of His vineyard. The Word says: “Forsake not the assembling of ourselves together as the manner of some is, but exhort one another and so much the more as ye see the day approaching.” The Church of God at this place assemble themselves together, and sister Emma Lyon preaches the Word by the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven, and God confirms the Word by signs following “For whatsoever things were, written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope and hope maketh not ashamed because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost, which is given unto us.” Bless the Lord! 0 my soul, and all that is within me bless His holy name: for all His goodness to the children of man.

Since I last wrote to the TRUMPET, our son was taken with fits. I obeyed James 5th and 14th, and the Lord raised him up And he has had no symtoms of their returning.

Your sister made white and tried. Hallelujah!

Dear Trumpet Readers: — I praise God for this blessed privilege for the first time in my life to give in my testimony through the columns of the TRUMPET. This blessed sabbath morning finds me sweetly saved in Jesus. I praise God for this blessed evening light that shines forth in my soul. I rejoice in the Lord and praise God forevermore for the mighty saving power that has been manifested in the salvation of my soul. Praise God for the completeness there is in Jesus and the wonderful plan of salvation and for the influence of the Holy Spirit that keeps me from all sin and makes me rejoice in the Lord evermore, and in everything give thanks. My voice shall thou hear in the morning; O Lord will I direct toy prayer unto thee and will look up (Psa. 5:3) for thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness neither shall evil dwell with thee. Psa. 5:4. I praise God for the gift of His son whom He sent into this world to save us from all sin. Ungodly professors say we cannot live free from all sin. praise God the Word says he that committeth sin is of the devil, and the devil sinned from the beginning Therefore the devil is the father of all sin. And all sinners can and must call themselves children of darkness or of the devil, for God says I am light and in me is no darkness at all. They are of the world therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. We are of God he that knoweth God heareth us. There are many which say they have God yet they hate their brother. The word says: If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? — 1 John 4:20. I was once an ungodly professor drinking the abominable wine of Methodism, but thank God I heard the everlasting call: come out of her my people and be not partakers of her evil deeds; and be not unequally yoked together with unbelievers, praise God the Holy Spirit flashed light into my soul, and I saw at once it was God’s will that I should “come out of her.’’ He has also saved my soul from all sin and pride, and the vanities and pleasures of this world. I delight to please the Lord and to forsake sin and unrighteousness to follow my dear Savior, praise God! I am saved and sanctified to do the whole will of God pray for me all the dear saints that I may ever stand true for God and with all the dear saints gain a home in heaven.

Dear Saints: — I praise God for salvation full and free, and for the grace of God that keeps us from falling. I have learned to trust Jesus every hour and moment. He keeps me from all sin. My desire is to keep humble at the feet of Jesus, “For He forgetteth not the cry of the humble.” “Better is it to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, then to divide the spoil with the proud.”

In the past, pride has been my beseting sin, and caused me to wander from the narrow way more than all other sins. I praise Jesus, that He can save us, even from pride, which is nothing less than vanity and vexation of spirit. I praise God! that my eyes have been opened to see the corruption in the denominations. Ten years ago, when I was first sanctified, the Lord showed me this blessed evening light but I did not understand it. I felt impressed that God wanted a free people. When I heard of the saints being a free people, I knew they were as God had shown unto me when first sanctified. One year ago last Aug. I was permitted to meet with the saints at the Jerry City, O. camp-meeting. I went to see and hear for myself, if the many hard things spoken against them were true or not. Praise the Lord! I was blessed with the privilege of meeting the free and true people of God. Bro. Palmer was the first one I heard expound the Word of God, and his preaching was so plain, I could see and understand as never before. I went home from the meeting, feeling and thinking different than when I went. O praise God for the light! When I saw what my duty was, I soon made my escape out of all sectism. I am now out in the true light, and thankful that the Son has set me free, and taken off all straps and yokes. Amen!

I ask all the saints to pray for me.

From your sister under the blood.

Dear Brethren: — This morning finds me saved and kept from all sin by the power of God, for which I give Him all the praise. I have given up all to follow Jesus. This world has lost all its charms for me, for I have everlasting joy in my soul that passeth all understanding. I also praise God for His Word, which He has given unto us to measure our lives by. O how awful it will be in the day of judgment, when the many who profess to know God but by works deny Him, are tried by the Word and found wanting.

I am your sister sanctified from all sin.
