TWENTY THIRD PSALM.

—§o§—

My Shepherd is the gracious Lord,
Who rules and reigns above;
Therefore my spirit shall not want,
Encircled by His love.
Green pastures gives He for my rest,
And by the waters still,
He leadeth me with kindly hand,
His promise to fulfill.

And should my soul rebellious grow,
And stray o’er thorny track, —
To peaceful paths of righteousness
He calls me ever back.
Not for my merits — undeserved —
Save for His own name sake,
My willing feet with joy again
Their onward pathway take.

Yea, though I tread the darkened vale
Where clinging shadows throng,
Still will my trusting spirit raise
Its happy, pilgrim song.
No evil will I fear, dear Lord,
Thou wilt be with me there, —
Thy rod and staff will comfort me —
My comfort still Thy care.

A table Thou preparest for me,
Whereon my foes may gaze, —
Still wondering at Thy tender care
That brightens all my days.
With oil thou dost anoint my head
Richer than Aaron’s share, —
While precious hands rest fondly down,
And leave a blessing there.

My cup o’erflows with riches, Lord,
And thus’t will ever be —
Goodness and mercy from Thy hand
Will surely follow me.
Dwelling in Time, in temples fair,
To sing Thy praises given,
Until my feet tread higher courts
Within the gates of Heaven.

“WHAT IS THAT TO THEE FOLLOW THOU ME.”

—‡0‡—

BEFORE I proceed to Christ’s example of feet washing, I will state how I once was. in regard to it. I knew from the plain Word it was to be practiced, but did not know in what way, and Bro. J. C. Vanzandt talked to me once against practicing it as an ordinance in the Church, so I divided that it ought to be practiced but not in the Church. I thank God I see better now, and Col says: Let my light shine; I thank God I never did light this ordinance, and make light of it as some professors of holiness do, since the Lord saved me. I have talked with several professors that were very much opposed to it. They try to make it an old custom, and a refreshment necessitated by wearing sandals. Now we will compare this position with the example of Jesus, and see if they harmonize, see Gen. 18:4, 19:2. 24:32. 43:24. In neither one of these scriptures does it say they washed one another’s feet, but the persons washed their own feet. These objectors seem to go back to Gen. to take a running start so as to jump Jno. 13 the command and example of Christ as much so as any other part of the Bible. Did Christ go through this service to give them an example how to perform an old Jewish custom that had been practiced many years? The sons of Aaron were positively commanded to wash their hands and feel, with the penalty of death pronounced on them if they entered the tabernacle without doing so. see Exod. 30:19, 20. Yet this command is not like the example that Jesus left ns to follow. Now notice what Christ said about what He did in Jno. 12:48-50. “The word that I have spoken shall judge you in the last day, for I have not spoken of myself, but the Father that sent me He gave me a commandment, what I should say and what I should speak; — whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak. And He come not to do His own will, but the will of the Father that sent him. God help us to follow in His steps at all times.

Now read Jno 13. carefully. Jesus “knew that His hour was come that He should depart out of this world, having loved his own that were in the world He loved them unto the end.” How blessed it is to follow this example (i. e., “Let brotherly love continue.” — Heb. 13:1. not make it) you obey God and it will be sure to continue, For by this shall all men know we are His disciples, if we have love one for another. Some poor souls that once had the love of God in their hearts has ceased brotherly love, and commenced a course of backbiting, (being puffed in knowledge) for the devil. God arouse them from their stupor and save from their strife before too late, for God is not mocked for whatsoever we sow we will reap.

Verses 3—5, 7. “Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands and that He was come from God, and went to God; He riseth from supper, and laid aside His garments; and took a towel and girded himself; after that He poureth water into a basin and began to wash the disciples feet, and to wipe them with the towel where-with He was girded; then cometh He to Simon Peter, and Peter saith unto Him: Lord, dost Thou wash my feet? Jesus answered and said unto him, what I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.”

The way Peter acted, and the conversation between him and Christ show plainly that it was not according to the custom, nor any commandment in the old covenant; for if it had been either of them, no doubt Peter would have acted as he did, and of course he knew them, but this was quite different from both, because Jesus was washing their feet and in the commandment to the priests and supposed custom they washed their own feet Peter saith unto Him, “Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him if I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.” God help us to learn obedience from this. If any willfuly disobey any thing the Lord wants us to do they will have no part with Him. Then where will their part be? Ans. “The fearful, and unbelieving, and abominable, and all liars etc. shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone.” — Rev. 21:8.

Simon Peter saith unto Him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. Jesus saith unto him, he that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, hut not all,” for He knew who should betray Him; therefore said he “ye are not all clean.”

Now Jesus commences to explain to them what He had done, as He told them they should know hereafter. (ver. 7.) “So after He had washed their feet, and had taken His garments, and was set down again. He said unto them know ye what I have done unto you?” (ver. 13) Ye call me Master and Lord, and ye say well, for so I am. If I, then your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. (ver. 15) For I have given you an example that ye should do as I have done to you.”

Praise God! this is very plain, just what He had done to the disciples by washing their feet. He commanded that they should do to each other, not that he enjoined an old custom of the old covenant, but He says, I (i. e. Christ) have given you an example.” Those that make feet-washing worse than doctrines of devils, makes Jesus, the author of it, worse than the devil. God save men from such blasphemy. Some try to make people believe that feet- washing, to be practiced in the Church, is of Bro. Warner and Bradley, etc. and say it was never practiced in the Church until the Hardshell s took it up; all such comes from the father of lies. Jesus says, — Jno. 17:8. “I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them.” Then His words in Jno. 13th chapter were part of the words here spoken of, and He gave them i. e. (Apostles) a final commission, after His resurrection to teach all nations. “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you;” and it cannot be denied that feet-washing is part of the things He commanded them. Then if the disciples did not. teach feet-washing, they kept back part of the Word, and did not do what He commanded them. We will notice hereafter and see if they taught it. Now this is very clear that it should be practiced in the Church just as the Head of the Church says, for the apostles were in the Church when He gave it to them. If that was not to be practiced in the Church, then the supper is not to be in the Church either that was instituted the same night the feet-washing was. Some say Christ only said that we ought to wash one anothers feet, and say when He said ought, He did not mean what He said, and by saying ought He did not bind it on us, and we can obey or disobey, and it will be all the same. Thou that repliest against the Son of God by whom the worlds were framed, and without Him we can do nothing. If He did mean what He said tell us why He did not say what He meant, and what did He mean? Now we will resort to the Word, and see if it means any thing. “Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and me all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.” — Luke 11:42. Then if ought does not mean what it says, and is of no force, people can pass over judgment and the love of God (like many proud self- willed persons are doing) and at least go to heaven in their condition. “Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, to enter into His glory.” Then according to their argument Christ ought not to have suffered (though God had said by His prophets He would) and enter into His glory. (Luke 24:26.)

When the high priest asked the apostles, “did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? (i. e. name of Jesus) Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, “we ought to obey God rather than men.” — Acts 5:28, 29. Then they could disobey God, and obey men, as many are doing, with Christ’s command in Jno. 13.

“Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessings and cursings, my brethren these things ought not so to be.” — Jno. 3:10. Then if ought does not impress duty on us, we could curse and bless and it would be all the same.

“Seeing that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought we to be in all holy conversation and Godliness.” — 2 Pet. 3:11. If ought does not bind obligation, we need not be holy in all conversation and it will be all the same. “For I say through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to tnink of himself more highly than he ought to think.” — Rom. 12:3. If ought is nothing we can do as some are doing, thinking more highly of ourselves than we ought, i. e., they think themselves above their Master, and do not need to follow His example, and positive command.

“God who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son.” — Heb. 1:1, 2.

This shows that Christ excels the prophets and even the angels. “Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard lest at any time we should let them slip.” — Heb. 2:1. Then we see Paul believed in giving the more earnest heed to the things that Christ spoke to us. John also believed and taught the things of Christ 1 Jno. 3:23. Some people preach from Heb. 2:1 — give heed to the things spoken to us by Christ, and when you practice one that Christ set the example for, and took more pains to teach us how to practice than the supper or any of the other things He left us, they will say oh no you must not practice that; so they deny the Word of God and their own teaching. Then they say we believe in washing feet when they are dirty. What sinner or hypocrite does not believe that? Others say they believe in washing a persons feet if he were sick and unable to do it himself. The disciples were not sick, and were able to wash their own feet. Such false teaching as that is changing the truth of God into a lie, and worshiping the creature more than the Creator.” — Rom 1:25. Jesus says in Jno. 13:15, that we should do as He done to them. False teachers bring many things against the example of Christ to try and make it of no effect. If I had time and space I would take up all their arguments I know of. They say it does not say shall, therefore it is not binding on us. Thank God! His people are not under the thunders of Sinai now, nor do we need the rigid legal, “thou shalt” to make ns follow Jesus. God calls us obedient children, and all we want is Christ’s mind. “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased, hear ye Him.” — Matt. 17:5. Sinai’s thunders have long since been superceded by the law of love written in our hearts. Glory to God in the highest! for the showers of Pentecost that confounded the representatives of all nations under heaven. Praise God!

Jesus uses should here as breathing the very Spirit of His laws and our debt of love to Him. “For I have given you an example that ye should do.” etc. The word is of as much force as shall. Notice the word for it when Paul was a prisoner and on his way to Rome, he admonished the ship men to stay at Crete for the voyage was dangerous, but they disbelieved him and when they were exceedingly tossed with a tempest Paul stood in their midst and said, sirs you should have harkened unto me etc. Acts 27:20, 21. See it expresses intense obligation. Peter says, “Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example that we should follow His steps who did no sin, neither was guile found in His mouth.” — 1 Peter 2:21, 22. Now if should does not impress duty, we need not follow His steps, and we can sin and let guile be found in our mouths, and it would be all the same. Such teaching helps the devil make anti-ordinance people, and you need not cry out against people for not keeping the supper, and then try and explain away feet-washing that was instituted the same night, and is just as plain, if not more positive words than the supper. That is like the sects that help make infidels by having a form of Godliness but denying the power thereof; profess to serve God and serve the devil, i. e., sin against the truth, and get up publicly and fight infidels after helping make them. A saloon keeper might as well cry out against drunkards. Some people can not see feet- washing with the plain example of Christ before them, and His Word for to do as He done, yet they can see tobacco in 2 Cor. 7:1 “Having therefore these promises dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh.” etc. They can see tobacco forbidden in that, yet it does not say we ought or should cleanse ourselves, but merely let us. And they will denounce a person as being of the devil that do not obey, and do the same with a person that will follow the example of Christ with ought and should such preferment of some things is not of the Spirit of God who guides us into all truth. Of course tobacco is wrong, and not glorifying to God to chew, smoke and dip, and God help people to quit the filthy stuff. But this is only part of the filthiness of the flesh, they can see positive duty in Rom. 12:1. Yet pretend not to see Jno. 13. God help us to take all of His Word as it is.

Now notice 16 and 17 verses, “Verily verily I say unto you, the servant is not greater than his Lord; neither he that is sent greater than He that sent him. If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.” But how shall we know these things? namely this, and the other ordinances Jesus says, “If a man will do His will he shall know of the doctrine.” — Jno. 7:17. So if any person does not know these things, his willful ignorance springs from rebellion against the words of Jesus. Such as oppose the ordinance of washing the saints feet, do not love the truth, hence do not do the word, and therefore do not know of the doctrine, and so they speak evil of things winch they know not. If we know these things. What things? Here please notice, one was the emblem of the body that they had taken, and the other was the wonderful lesson and command taught them in washing their feet, that they should keep humble down at the feet of Jesus, and at the feet of each other, i. e., esteem another rather than ourselves, and not be puffed up one against another, as He told them, the servant was not above his Lord, neither he that, is sent greater than he that sent him. He tells them in 15:20 of Jno. to remember the word that I said unto you, “the servant is not greater than his Lord, if they have persecuted me they will also persecute you; If they have kept my sayings they will keep yours also. The proud professors in the time Jesus was manifest in the flesh did not keep His sayings: He gave them a parable what a man was like that heard his sayings and done them, in Matt. 7:24, 25. While the Son of God was clothed in human flesh, and was teaching His disciples just before His departure out of this world, many of the proud professors were enraged against Him, and seeking how they might put Him to death; and one of them that had been following him goes out from his master and sells Him for money, betrayed Him into the hands of sinners, like many who profess to follow Him this day are doing, denying His example and His power to save and keep humble. We are in the perilous age of the world and many are departing from the faith. 1 Tim. 4:1. The word of faith which we preach Rom. 10:8 “In the beginning the Word was with God and the word was made flesh, and dwelt among us. Jno. 1:1-14. The Word dwelt among us, lived the example He would have us follow, done always the things that pleased the Father. Jno. 8:29, 2 Pet. 1:17. Then you see clearly we are in the perilous age, some preach against feet-washing, and say it is immodest and divides God’s people, which accusation all falls on Christ its Author, and not on us who do what He says we ought to do.

Jesus says, “why call ye me Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” — Luke 6:46.. See also 1 Cor. 2:11-14. Jesus says, If a man love me he will keep my words, Jno. 14:23. My Master gave these things a place in His mission, and I will do likewise; yet I have not taught it essential to obtaining salvation, for people should obtain salvation before they are baptized, take the supper and wash one anothers feet, yet they are essential to obedience, after we are in possession of salvation, some poor deluded souls try to put up an excuse to keep from obeying by saying, John was the only Gospel that spoke of it. John also is the only one that relates the conversation between Christ and Nicodemas that we must be born again. And the only one that wrote Rev., and Rev. is the only place in the New Testament that warns us against adding to and taking from the Word. Now if that was any excuse, we need not be born of the Spirit, and we could add to and take from God’s Word like many are doing. When God speaks once that is enough for me. It annoys a great many that try to explain away God’s word because, praise God! it is steadfast and does not pass away. All that will be left in Zion and Jerusalem will be called holy. People are seeing that babylon has fallen and her names of blasphemy are a reproach to God, and that God’s people shall be called a holy people. Isa. 4:62. 2-12, and they see their condition as did those in Isaiah 4:1. Some are saying we will have our own way of baptism and wear our own apparel.

Some through self-righteousness and the delusion of the devil, think they do not need to follow the example of Christ, and do what He said do. Yet they want to be called by the name of the Lord, holiness, (yea straight holiness) and some seem to think if they can be called by the name, it will take away their reproach, if they do not follow Jesus in deed and in truth, and they even denounced others for following Jesus, and want to withdraw fellowship from them. Brethren, why come out of all sects, and then set up a new one? God wants His redeemed ones who are called the holy people, not hypocrites and sinners. You may fight feet-washing, God’s power to heal by faith, and let people he baptized or sprinkled, any way they want too, just leave it with them, and have an envious heart against those who follow the Lamb whithersoever He goeth, and then profess holiness, and there is not much reproach to it, he like other popular holiness that say we preach holiness and yet live in sin and sects. Some say we do not believe in feet-washing that Jesus taught and left us an example to follow; yea, and some of our prominent preachers may oppose this. “What is that to thee? follow thou me.” He is the way, not prominent preachers. Some profess they know Him, but in works they deny Him. Titus 1:16. Dear brethren recieve this

ALL advocates of error and doctrines of devils, basely practiced, lying against those that hold the truth that stands over against their teaching. They try to make their false doctrine look plausible, by falsifying the position of those who love and obey the truth. Hence every anti- christ sheet we have seen that renounces the positive commands of Christ, misrepresent those who teach and obey His Word as substituting water baptism for the baptism of the Spirit. That many who practice outward act of baptism have not the Spirit, is all true; and yet, with the exception of the Campbellites and Dunkards, they no more substitute the divine ordinance of baptism for the Spirit. Quakers substitute their anti-christ doctrine for the Spirit. And not-with-standing there are thousands to-day baptized into, and filled with the Spirit of God, who glorify God by obeying the commands of Christ, the above charge is made without exceptions. Again, they have repeatedly accused us of making the ordinances of Christ a test of fellowship, etc. Whereas we have constantly affirmed that we have no test of fellowship, but the fact of fellowship. Fellowship is of the Spirit. And all who have the divine Spirit of God have fellowship in the Spirit. We have no more fellowship with a false Spirit that outwardly conforms to these institutions of Christ, than with the false Spirits that puff and rail at them. Neither does the fact of any saved person, through false education, leaving undone these commands, prevent our fellowship, so long as he is sincere and unperverted. But as long as the Spirit of God guides us into all truth. Such will be led to accept all the Word of God, or become deluded of the devil. In which case fellowship ceases, not because of the error directly, but because another spirit has supplanted the Spirit of truth.

Sister Emma Johnson, writes from West Plains, Mo., “I am praising God for a present salvation that sweetly saves my soul. Hallelujah to God in the highest! The Lord is with us in mighty power. We are having glorious meetings, and souls are being saved almost every coming together. The devil tried to come in and defeat the work of God with some pernicious antichrist spirits. But the Lord gave us a red hot message through power of Judah’s Lion, which threw fire in their camp, and the devil had to retreat to His dark dwelling-place. I give all the glory to God. O that the Lord would send one of His holy ministers here to baptize the dear ones, who have given their hearts to Christ, and desire to obey His Word. And to help to push on this glorious battle. There could be a glorious work done here by any of God’s ministers.

Some dear Bro. should go to the aid of sister Johnson, as soon as practical.

POEMS OF GRACE AND TRUTH.

Are now ready for delivery. Our note of about $350 is due July 15, and must be met immediately, therefore we are compelled to use every possible means to get the book before the people, and get as much help by its sale as we can before that time. We trust that the Lord will move enough subscribers by July 12, to meet this debt, so that we can pay it promptly. The dear Lord only knows how grateful we feel to God and to you beloved who have already sent us some precious donations recently to help us out. O may God reward your dear souls with very choice blessings. We thought some of taking books and visiting the strongest places of the saints at once, since our time is so short, but then we felt led to go forth about our Master’s business and preach the Gospel just where duty lead, and trust God to move the people to send in the means in due time. Amen.

Dear Saints: — I feel led this evening to write my testimony. I am saved and sanctified by a second work of grace, and I do praise God for that cleansing power that keeps us day by day. It has taken all sectism out of me. I was in the sect for two years and serving the devil all the time. I do thank God that He sent the true light in our neighborhood, and many souls were saved. Praise His holy that I was not too blind to accept it. Pray for me that I may ever stand firm for Jesus.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

—:o:—

BANGOR CAMP MEETING.

The annual round of time brings us the happy privilege of reporting, to the glory 0f God, another precious triumph of His mighty Truth and Spirit on the old campground. O how grateful to the dear Lord we feel for His wonderful showers of blessing upon our souls. O what inexpressible glory filled the sacred place. Over a week before the time of beginning, the dear saints began to come in from different states, until the Trumpet family dwelling house, and rooms in the office building were all well filled, and all our hearts magnified God for the sweet fellowship of the Father, His Son, and the blessed saints. O how our hearts were made to burn as we met.

Quite a number accompanied us to the South Haven grove meeting, June 6—8. This meeting was a very precious season. A large concourse of people convened to hear the Gospel of God Saturday evening and three times on Lord’s day, and the Word of God was listened to with deep interest. A few souls were saved, some converted and others wholly sanctified.

Some dear ones pitched their tents on the old camp ground, about two days before the time came for the meeting to begin, and the meeting started in with much power. The first two days the glory was most, wonderfully upon us all. The work of salvation began with the onset of the meeting. We can safely say that from 4 to 15 persons consecrated in each meeting where opportunity was given, either for pardon or entire sanctifiication, and seldom did any come without finding the Lord in what their souls sought, the first time. Probably, over 150 obtained either one or both Gospel experiences. Quite a number were also healed in body, by the power of the living Christ with His people. There were 22 obedient souls joyfully followed Christ in the ordinance of baptism, and coming up straightway out of the water like their Savior and Leader, they were made to praise God for His love shed abroad in their hearts. Among that number were two ministers who, after spending most of their life in babylon, were baptized as a testimony against her. There were over twenty ministers of the Gospel present, besides many helpers who are constantly in the field. All worked together in the Spirit, and in heavenly harmony for the salvation of souls. The most precious unity existed, under the Spirit’s leadership. There was such glorious harmony, power and victory through the entire meeting that the few deluded legalistic spirits that were about were held in check, and the work went on with glorious triumph. Not as many states were represented in the meeting as some former meetings. Many saints in this, and adjoining counties did not get to attend at all. But there was a mighty host present on the Lord’s day. Time failed, for all to speak at any one time. In one testimonial service, 158 testified in 40 minutes. Praise God! the fire flashed in their testimony, and all seemed anxious to hear more from each one that spoke, while each testifying was scarcely willing to open their mouths freely for fear the glorious blow of praises and testimony would not leave time for all others.

The Lord blessed us with precious weather through the meeting. The order was very good; it could not be expected that all would give quiet attention in the many thousands who tramped the ground on the Lord’s day. The old pavillion and large tabernacle were unable to seat more than perhaps half the people, in the forenoon, where many bundled people heard the Word. In the afternoon the glorious bread of life was dealt out by one of God’s living heralds after another at four different pulpits. So that the precious saving truth was planted into thousands of hearts, and the masses seemed to revere the Word of God. Several were also saved even mid the great throng of the day.

On Monday P. M. approaching the evenning, the solemn ordinances Christ instituted the night He was betrayed, were observed by over a hundred saints, that were left on the ground. Oh this heavenly and glorious presence of the adorable Redeemer melted all our hearts in love and praise to His holy name.

That meeting is now in the past, and its mighty flames will be carried back to Ind. Ohio, Georgia, Mo. Kans. and Nebraska, and to many parts in Mich. The number of consecrated workers is rapidly increasing, and the glorious holiness of God is burning more deeply and fervently. O that God may give all His ministers and workers much wisdom, and great faithfulness, in laying judgment to the line and righteousness to the plummet, that the work may be kept pure and harmonious in the love of God.

The following brethren were ordained to the sacred work of the ministry, by the laying on of hands and prayer. Bro. Lytle of Wayne Co. Ohio. Bro M. M. Stover, of Table Rock Neb. Bro. John Doherty of Neb. Bro. Geo. Howard of Ohio. May the Lord keep these pure and faithful and mightily use them in the salvation of a multitude of souls, who shall be stars in their crowns of glory. With many glowing burning farewell greetings, the camp was left in silence again, or only to hear the sweet minstrelsy of the birds. Many from a distance expect to remain in the country until after the Beaver Dam meeting, and many more are coming from surrounding states, so that there will doubtless be a greater representation from above at that place, then were present at the past meeting.

As for us, the Lord willing, we will assist Bro. Sharpnack, in a meeting one week near Ganges, Mich. Next take in the Dimond Springs and Jamestown grove meeting, then join Bro. Michels in a Tabernacle campaign in the cities of Otsego and Kalamazoo, up to the time of Deerfield Camp-Meeting, which we hope to attend, and after Beaverdam C. M. take in Tekonsha grove meeting, and Gratiot Co. C. M.

Norwood, Mo. May 19, 1890.

Dear Brethren — I feel led of the Lord to write my testimony and of the work. I am still saved by the grace of God. Praise His holy name! We closed a three days meeting at Brandon’s S. House last night, with great victory on the Lord’s side. There were six buried with Christ, in baptism, and another burial is to take place next Lord’s day. The Church there is more fully established than before. Some had been going back to babylon, and working with the sects, and had almost lost the victory; it has been a lesson to them, they are done going to sect meeting. While free from those coils, the Lord blessed their souls. There was one case of healing, and the power of God was felt by all present. Praise God! the healing power is not lost out of the name of Jesus Christ, as some think. The work is prospering in this part of the country. I have been in the work about here ever since I returned from the St. James camp-meeting, last fall. I feel led to some other parts, as the work can go on here without me. There are three others about here laboring in the good cause. Praise the Lord for what He is doing in these last days. We are preparing a camp meeting in this part, some time this Summer. We are going to buy a tabernacle and would love to have some well experienced minister of God at the meeting. God bless all the saints every where, and send more laborers into the field, for the harvest, for gleaning, is great. I am trusting God for all things, for time and eternity. Pray for me all the saints that I may be kept pure and bumble.

Your Bro. saved by the blood of Jesus.

Dear Saints: — I am praising God this morning for complete salvation from all sin and compromise of the devil. May soul is basking in the sunlight of glory divine. O hallelujah! Well beloved, we are here in the name of Jesus for the salvation of precious souls who are going down to eternal destruction. God has been and is with us in mighty power, anointing us to preach the Gospel with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven, mightily convincing the people of the truth of God. Last night was a glorious feast to our souls. O how the blessed Lord did glorify Himself in us. O the glory came down wave after wave while we were preaching the Word to the people. O what a blessed, heavenly, melting time the Lord did give us. Bless his name forever! Quite a number of dear souls were deeply moved in the congregation; some were melted to tears. One dear old lady who had never been converted (so I understood) wept bitterly. We are here to stay as long as the Lord wills. We have several calls for meetings, will meet as many as possible. We expect the Lord to save many souls during this summer. We are not seeking pleasure nor an easy time, but the glory of God in the salvation of the lost and perishing. O how my soul is burdened for the lost. My prayer continually is for God to make me more humble gentle, meek, and useful in the work of the Lord.

Pray for us.

J. P. Haner & J. Willis.

Bracken; Ind. June 5th 1890.

Dear Saists: — May the richest of heaven’s blessings rest upon and abide with you all, henceforth, even forevermore.

The Lord went before us and gloriously prepared the way for us and the Gospel at Ridgeville Corners, Ohio, where He opened the hearts of the trustees and leading members of the M. E. sect who freely gave us the use of their house for about 2 weeks. The Lord graciously blessed us in preaching the Gospel which had a precious effect on the community. Many were convinced of and acknowledged the truth, even those who were bitter against and persecuted this way, said: “It is the truth and we cannot get around it.” Hallelujah! Though many were convinced of their condition by the word and spirit of God, yet they would not then yield unto the Lord. Owing to other engagements, we felt it our duty to leave there, but hope to return again in the future. Some of the saints were present at the meetings a few times; sister Kinney and Bro. Towns from Archbold, and others whom we were glad to meet in the Lord. A grove meeting is wanted at Ridgeville Corners, Henry Co., Ohio in Aug, sometime after harvest. Address Bro. Wm. Spray for any needed information. On our way here we stopped at Florida and held 3 meeting in the name of the Lord. There we found a high wall of prejudice and bitterness against this way, but the Lord gloriously blessed and made His Word effectual to the people. May 23rd we took the train for Payne, Ohio and had a precious meeting with the Church there, and the next evening begun meeting in the name of the Lord. God is planting the truth in the hearts of the people and several have come to Him Hallelujah! From here we go to huntington to begin meeting the. 10th in Union meeting house, 6 miles east of that town to continue as long as the Lord wills.

Pray for us.

F. N. & Susie A. Jacobson.

—:o:—

For want of space to insert the report of some of the meetings, we glean the following.

__________

Bro. C. H. Eldridge of Tekonsha, Mich. writes that he has just closed a meeting at Decatur, Ind., which was one of great interest. There were a few consecrations and 8 persons baptized.

—§o§—

A few meetings held in Southern Ind., by Bro. R. Cloe and others, resulted in the salvation of one soul, and left conviction on many others, and opened the way for a good work in that part of the country.

—:o:—

Bro. Jacobson writes June 19 that the Bracken meeting was a success for God; His power being manifested by casting out of evil spirits, healing the sick, and the salvation of a few souls; 3 were baptized. Alter the Huntington meeting they expect to bold about a 2 weeks meeting at Liberty Mills, Ind.

—‡0‡—

Berrien Springs, Mich. June. 20, 1890.

The grove meeting at Hinchman, Mich. was a grand success for the Lord. It last- 4 days. The last day, there were 5 persons at the altar, and the people seemed very anxious to receive the truth. After the Bangor C. M. we preached one night at the house of sister Lederer at Watervaliet, Mich. There were 3 consecrations, 2 of which received complete victory. One dear soul was delivered out of the Knights of Honor, (secret order), in in which place he had paid between $300 and $400. May God send some of His firebrands there soon to preach His Word.

Yours in Christ.

J. A. & A. J. Dillon.

—:o:—

We are very glad to hear that G. T. Clayton of Welland, Ont., has been doing some effectual work for the Lord in Buffalo N. Y. Some influential missionaries and others have received the light on the oneness of the Church and the blessings of full salvation, and have taken a firm stand for the Lord, outside of all sects. He has also held successfull meetings in Canada.

June 20, 1890.

We had a precious meeting at Galesburgh, Kansas, in which a few souls were reclaimed and the church strengthened. Seven were buried with Christ in baptism, and came up out of the water with angelic faces, shouting the praises of God.

We also had a blessed ordinance meeting in which the saints clearly discerned the Lord’s body, and truly it was a wonderful melting time to our souls. Bro. S. G. Bryant was set apart as overseer of the Church of God at that place by the laying on of hands, having already proved himself to have been called of God. A few were healed of bodily ailments. We next visited the church at Meriden, Kans., and then came on to the Bangor, C. M. which was indeed a feast of fat things to our souls, and our hearts were made to leap with joy to see so many dear saints, and see so many precious souls brought to Christ. We expect to hold a meeting at Walkerton, Ind. soon.

Yours in Jesus.

Dear Saints Greeting: — I am happy to report to you through the Trumpet that I am saved from all sin just now. Praise the Lord! I know that the blood of His dear Son cleanses me from all sin, and the life I now live, I live by faith in the Son of God, who hath washed me in His own precious blood and keeps me by His power, who hath saved us by the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Ghost

The saints of God at this place, (Beaver- Dam) are having glorious good meetings, we meet 4 times a week to worship God in the beauty of Holiness. We are looking forward to the time, of the Beaver Dam C. M. with great anticipations of having a glorious good meeting and seeing souls saved and made happy in a Saviours love. We invite all God’s dear children far and near, to come, and all who will come, we will show all the hospitality that lieth within us. We are consecrated to do God’s will in all things, and will respond to the calls to meet the saints at the different depots. There will be a boarding tent on the ground, and all who are worthy and not able to pay will be cared for. It will be wise for all to bring some bedding, such as comforts, ticks, etc. as it is impossible for us to furnish bedding for so large a number. We expect to use both upper rooms of the boarding house for the sisters this year, and arrange otherwise for the brethren. We advise as many of the saints from this state especially where you come in companies to bring tents, as we expect a larger number from a distance than on any previous year.

Your Bro. in Christ.

Dear Brethren: — I praise the Lord for salvation this day. I am so glad that He shows me, that in order to go to heaven we must live holy in this life. I pray that God will lead me and keep me from making mistakes in living for Him. There are no holiness meetings in this town, so I have no chance to go to meeting. The evening light has not been preached in this town that I know of. I pray the Lord to send some one here to preach the Gospel to the people.

I am saved and sanctified. Pray for me.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — I want to give in my testimony to all the saints. Praise God! I am saved to the uttermost with an everlasting salvation. My trust is in God, the Bible my guide, and the holy spirit my leader. Every man and woman that are in posession of the Spirit of God and the mind of Christ, are my teachers. Neither will I let the devil accuse me, for the accuser of the Brethren is forever cast out. Well I want to say the hand of the Lord is upon me. I am satisfied with Jesus everywhere. At home or in the field I am doing all the Lord wants me to do as far as I know and can, for I know the voice of the Lord. Praise His holy name! I have God’s spirit bearing witness with mine that I am dead to all but Jesus. This world has no charms for me, for I am not of this world. Praise God! He keeps my soul as sweet as heaven, for I have a heaven to go to heaven in. And I have perfect victory in my soul over all the powers of hell and all devils. I have such an abhorrence against all the works of the devil, that the devil would gladly let me alone if I would let Him alone. Praise God forever and ever.

OBITUARIES.

THE following lines in memory of Claud Irland, son of Wm. and Libbie Irland, who died at Owosso Mich., aged 2 years 24 days. Funeral services were held by the writer.

Look upon him as he’s sleeping,
O how sweetly lies he there;
Cease, fond parents, cease thy weeping,
He has passed from earthly care.

Mourn not that our darling left us,
Like a flower he bloomed and died;
‘Tis our Father hath bereft us,
Of our loved one and our pride.

Too rude were the wintry blasts,
For a blossom so tender and rare:
With the angels our darling hath passed
To a clime that is alawys fair.

He has gone from a place of sorrow,
From a world that is heartless and
No trouble for him to borrow, [cold;
He is safe in the Saviors fold.

God to us has treasure given,
Sooh he takes them one by one,
But mourn not, for to yonder heaven,
Our little Claudie now has gone.

Dear Saints: — I feel led to write the conversion and death of our sister Pearly Metcaff.

She was 14 yrs. old the 4th of last Feb. She had attended our meetings a few times and became convicted, but her home was destiitute of salvation. Her relatives and associates were all wicked, but our blessed Savior saw it was good to take her to Himself. She was taken sick the first day of May, and on the 4th day of her illness, sister Nanie Hall and myself visited her. She seemed to be engaged in secret prayer to God most of her time. And on the 5th day at about half past 4 o’clock the Lord spoke peace to her soul. At 5 o’clock her praises and shouts arose upward. And every person that came in her sight she would exhort them to get glory in their soul. She said it was so nice to live with Jesus althrough her sicknese she exhorted her parents to get saved. She had them to promise that they would meet her in heaven. She departed to live with Jesus the 16th inst. Funeral services were held by Bro. Ecarp.

Let all the saints pray for her parents conversion.

FATHER Aaron Mitter departed this life at his residence a few miles from Silver Lake, Ind. May 23rd 1890. Aged, 70 years 10 months 18 days. He was born in Summit Co., Ohio, married to Cardelia Fuller at Medina, Ohio, April 9th 1842 He was converted to God in 1860, and maintained his trust in God and piety of life until the end. He attended the Beaver Dam camp-meeting last year and seemed to enjoy the old time revival power that he found there. He had been for a member of years an elder in the Church of God denomination until the recline of health he resigned his responsibility. Our reccollections of him on the camp-ground last year is of one we felt was a good honest father in Israel. He leaves a companion and 7 children to mourn the absence of their dear father. in the Spirit I have written it in. I have done it in the Spirit of the Lord, who only has the words of eternal life. God help us to cleave to Him. The reason I have written through the paper is because there are so many opposing it in various ways and I felt it would be of the Lord for me to give the Word on it through the Trumpet, as I was satisfied no sect paper would publish it, and if any of you want to withdraw fellowship from me for following Jesus, and teaching Him as the way, you and the Lord for it. Thank God I have learned I can not go to Heaven on friendship, and human endorsement. God help me to live so I can say I realize as did John, truly my fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. Praise God, I will have the fellowship of His true people. When my time comes to be offered and give an account of my stewardship it depends wholly upon whether or not I have fought a good fight, finished the course and kept the faith, that I will receive the crown of life. I know that I have said a great deal on feet-washing, but not as much as some have said against it, and if some of you can not endorse this, you need not sneak around privily among the brethren and talk about it; if you can not endorse the example of Christ you can not endorse me. For I am only admonishing you to do what Jesus says you should and ought to do.

Yours in the way and following Jesus while others shrink and falter. I’ll glory in His name.

HOLY SPIRIT.

—:o.—

WHILE the Spirit is to guide us into all truth, and teach us all things, we also have the promise that He will abide with us. Hear the language of our blessed Saviour. “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another comforter that He may abide with you forever, even the Spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not neither knoweth Him. But ye know Him, for He dwelleth with you and shall he in you.” — Jno. 14; 16, 17. What a blessed promise to have the continual abiding of the Holy Spirit. To have the Spirit dwelling with us, and in us. To abide with us forever. Not to make an occasional visit as some think, and indicate as much in their prayers. But to come unto us and take up His abode in our hearts, for He shall not only dwell with us, but shall be in us. But He cannot and will not dwell in an unclean temple. It must be purged or cleansed from the old leaven.” — 1 Cor. 5:7. The roots of bitterness must be removed to insure the continual abiding of the Holy Spirit. The Psalmist prayed for this purging. Isaiah inquired earnestly about it when a live coal was placed upon his mouth and he was purged from his sin. Isa. 5:5. Psa. 51:7, 10. Jesus taught the necessity of it. The disciples prayed, expected, and received it while waiting in an upper room. The apostle Paul taught and urged it upon the churches, “and the the promise is unto you and your children, and unto them that are afar off.” Dear reader if this purging has not taken place in your soul, in the name of Jesus follow the example of Isaiah and make an earnest inquiry after it, and cease not to seek for it until you are in possession of the promised blessing.

Two occupants of antagonistic nature can not dwell together. The Holy Spirit wants and must have supreme rule in our hearts; any other will not be acceptable. Carnality must be uprooted and bid depart; for if it remains it will seek to usurp authority, and to make and keep the temple of God unclean and cause us to serve sin. Thus bringing us into cruel servitude, but it is God’s will that we be free from sin, (carnality) and become servants of righteousness. — Rom. 6:18, 22, and the temple be fitted for the reception of the Holy Ghost, and how different the sweet mild reign of the Holy Spiri.. from the domineering rule of the “old man.” Perfect and sweet freedom arises from the abiding of the Holy Ghost within. Joy and peace attends us every step we take in this life; we live, and realize that outlives are “hid with Christ in God.” But to have the abiding of the Holy Spirit, becomes a question of two wills. The first is that of God. The second is that of man. God’s will is, that we have all the fullness of God. That the Holy Spirit abide with us forever. To have this fullness man is required to submit. To yield. That we may abide in God. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, no more can ye except ye abide in me.” — Jno. 15:14. The Holy Spirit cannot abide in us except we abide in God. Here the two will meet. The infinite and the finite. God’s will and man’s will. WHAT A CONTRAST. The one glorious and sublime, the other low, sensual and stubborn. The one elevating every soul that comes in contact with it, The other degrading and sinking lower in sin. But there can be no abiding except there be a yielding of the finite mind, and that unreservedly. Then there can be an abiding in God, and God in us. Jesus says: “If a man love me be will keep my words.” He will not keep the tradition of man but the words of God. “And my Father will love him, and we come unto Him and make our abode with Him.” How glorious to have the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost dwelling in us. What peace that floweth like a mighty river! What joy unspeakable and full of glory. A soul cannot realize until it has the actual experience of the two abiding; and a sinking of the finite will into nothingness that He may abide. Then heaven belongs to us. And all the precious promises in God’s Word are ours, and we have a right to lay claim to them, and to enjoy the blessings that they bring. Jesus says: If ye abide in me and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will and it shall be done unto you. — Jno. 15:17. Dear soul can you ask for more? Such a glorious promise as this, the Word of God cannot fail. We do not abide and therefore do not receive the answer to our petitions. We must abide if we expect God to hear us. We should not fret or worry because we do not receive immediate answer, because God’s Word is sure. It is our business to abide, to trust and wait patiently on the Lord; and you have the IT SHALL BE DONE. God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we ask or think; according to the power that worketh in us.” — Eph. 3:20. Then ask and receive from the hand of your heavenly Father, who is so willing to give unto every one of His children that asketh of Him. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God by refusing to abide. “Now unto Him who is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever.” — Jude : 24, 25.

Dear Saints: — I am saved by the blood of Christ, cleansed body and soul, and ready to fight the good fight of faith, to receive a crown of righteousness when we come to appear before God’s throne. This meeting so filled my soul with love and joy that I must give expression about its glorious light. The great evangelical camp- meetings that I attended, where we had battles with the devil, sent waves of joy over the country, and invigorated my sluggish religious feelings. This was the means of cleansing my being and making me whole. The first M. E. camp-meeting that I attended was published as a power that sent a tidal wave all over the several counties adjoining; this sends a wave of salvation as far as Georgia, and to Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska, and throughout Michigan, Ind., and Ohio through representatives that were present.

The M. E. opened the door for me into exalted, cultured and privileged Detroit Conference, and shed a flood of theological and ecclesiastical light on me. But in this Christ opened the door into the inner sanctuary, had me feast on the hidden manna, and illuminated my soul with the candles of God’s holy Spirit, and gives me the sweet joy of being persecuted for Christ’s sake, knowing that great is my reward in heaven. Those denominational meetings, that I remember as great events in my history, and done much in the unfolding of my nature, will never be forgotten, and the dear brethren that then were near and dear to me have a warm place in my heart, but I do rejoice that now I have the fulness of God, a completeness in His love, a joy unspeakable and full of glory that I never saw before. My all is upon the altar, and my life will be spent in spreading this evening light with all my ransomed powers. The truth now separates me from the organized bodies with which I stood in the past, and unites me with the body of Christ — all of God’s dear children. Having separated from the organizations that had my strength and influence for so many years of my active eventful life, I am not less a co-worker with all that love Christ, and hope to continue to live in their hearts, and by our united efforts bless humanity in spreading Bible holiness.

The preaching and testimonies were to the point. God’s love as a saving power was the theme. The two works of grace and the special gifts of the Spirit, were logically, forcibly, and clearly taught. As a result the altar, was filled with seekers that desired to enter the door by justification, and become cleansed by entire sanctification. My estimate is that far above one hundred testified that they entered the first or second stages of religious experience and a good number had their bodies, as well as their souls healed. Truly the signs promised to follow believers were manifested, and Christ’s prayer for His children answered. Among the many remarkable testimonies and truths advanced I desire to give Bro. Smurr’s, an aged German minister; he showed me the mark where he was healed of a cancer, and so did Mother Cuthbert of Berrien Springs. She was healed two years ago at Beaverdam (Ind.) camp-meeting. Her cancer was located in front of the lower part of her ear, as large as a hen’s egg, and bled daily. It was of seven years’ standing, treated as a cancer by many doctors, and pronounced such by one who carefully examined it at the same meeting. From the time of prayer for God’s presence and power, and anointing with oil, laying on of hands by the Elders, in two weeks the cancer entirely disappeared, leaving only the sear to witness for God. Many on the ground publicly, and to me privately, explained how they were healed of incurable ailments, such, too, as would have required mechanical and surgical treatment.

Among the special truths that were taught, I will mention a discourse on present truth, which showed that prophecy and history teach that in 1880 the holiness movement reached the cleansing of the sanctuary (free from sects and sinners). This movement is the promised era, when the Sanctuary, i. e. the Church, is being cleansed. The present religious condition answers to the description given by the inspired writers, and this movement answers to the description of the methods God promised to use to bring about the happy epoch of peace by grace and truth. The four periods — morning light, Papacy, Protestantism, and evening light — were explained by a historic chart or blackboard and such explanations that demonstrated the oneness (sameness) of the apostolic and this movement.

It was proved that the true body of Christ (true Church) was not properly represented either in the Papal or Protestant churches.

The true Christian Church is spiritual. The body is those in whose life Christ shines forth, and are such by reason of faith and practice.

The true light went under a cloud of pagan institutions which, remodeled from time to time, formed the creeds of the various denominations from Constantine down to the hist born organization by S. B. Shaw in A. D. 1890. The devil manages the divisions to destroy the oneness of believers, and that can never be established under the old order, but is under this. Christ, the all in all does all in all through all, for the perfection of the saints, and through them establishes His kingdom of righteousness, peace and joy in the holy Spirit on earth as it is in heaven. They are taking up the way of the apostles, the evening light being the dawn of the morning, that now gives us the perfect day.

The ordinances are observed strictly, as Christ commanded and practiced. They make visible to the eye the spiritual kingdom. Over twenty were buried with Christ in water baptism, as a testimony that they were dead in sin and risen with Him. In washing one another’s feet, they exhibit the glorious and beautiful fact that the greatest shall serve the least, and are all servants making distinction only in ability and power for good.

The emblems used. A blessed loaf of graham bread, that each is an individual (kernel) ground by the Spirit, leavened by love baked by the holy fire into one loaf or body, and then broken as was Christ’s body. The departure from the custom of sects who cut into slices their bread makes a striking contrast between sectism and Christ’s body, and was thrilling as that light burst into my soul. To represent the blood, the unfermented fruit of the vine was used. Altar service is a sensible way of humbling sinners and saints before God to have Him convert and sanctify. The joy unspeakable and full of glory caused some boisterous outbreak of feelings but prominent in the instructions is that feelings are not the standard, but faith. Conviction by the truth as means both for justification and sanctification characterized those services, and sinners were accepted, and consecrations were made outside of altar services.

I notice this is the opening of the su..ner campaign. The thunder of God’s truth and the lightning of His Spirit is expected to be seen and heard all over in the many meetings arranged and published. The stone loosened without hands, will roll on and crush error and establish the pure Church of the Living God.

Your brother,

John Storrer.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — I once more will praise God by testifying of the saving power of Jesus Christ the Son of the living God. I know that He will save all who will come unto Him and do His will. Though our sins be as scarlet, they shall be whiter than snow, and He will heal our bodies when we are sick. Oh praise God forever and ever! I know that the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses me from all sin, and that I am sanctified wholly to the Lord; and by His grace I will be a soldier in the army of the Lord, having on the whole armor of God, that I may be able to stand in the evil day, and having done all to stand.

When my race is run my warfare o’er.
And the solemn hour is nigh.
When offer’d up to God my soul.
Shall wing its flight on high.

With heavenly weapons I have fought
The battles of the Lord,
Will finish my course and keep the
Depending on His Word. [faith

Henceforth there is laid up for me
A crown which cannot fade;
The righteous judge at that great day
Shall place it on my head.

Nor hath the sovereign Lord decreed
This prize for me alone;
But for all such as love like me
The appearance of His Son.

Your sister in the Church of the living God, ready to do His will.

Dear Saints: — I praise God for what He has done for me. Two years ago last fall when Bro. Warner and company came here to hold meeting, I was a lost sinner but the Lord had mercy on me and saved my poor soul, and I give Him all the glory. There are only a few of us at this place, but we are very thankful there are enough of us to claim the blessing when we meet to worship God. Pray for us.

Your sister saved through the precious blood of Jesus.

Dear Saints: — May God bless and keep you all in the unity of the Spirit, and trusting Him in all things. I am sweetly saved in Jesus this evening, perfectly resigned to His holy will, ready to do whatsoever He would have me do, in honor to His holy name. Blessed be His holy name forever and ever! I am 12 years old, and have an experience that measures up with the Word of God. I know He saves me and sanctifies me just now. I know I am a child of God, I have the evidence in my soul. Praise God for full and free salvation, I live at home with my parents three miles east of Auburn on a farm. My parents are both saved and we have a little prayer meeting everyday at home for the Lord promised where two or three meet together in His name He would be in their midst, and that to bless. We have that number. Papa and mamma, myself and my blessed Jesus; that makes four. I have one Bro. and two sisters older than myself that I do so much desire to see saved, I ask the dear saints everywhere to unite with me in prayer in their behalf that God will convict and convert them. I can truly say that I trust God for all things. I have not had occasion to trust Him for my healing since I have been saved, but He has healed my papa and my little sister. And I know His Word is true. My motto is: “Let God be true and every man a liar.” I know my young associates laugh and scorn at me. But I am fully determined to go through for God His grace assisting me. Pray for me dear saints that I may live a good life, hid away with Christ in God. Your saved sister.

Dear Saints: — I feel this evening like writing my testimony of the power of God to save. He saves even me; blessed be His holy name. He has blotted out my transgressions and sanctified my nature. He gave me His Spirit a witness within. Truly He is the good Shepherd of the sheep who leads into green pastures and by the still waters. The half has never yet been told, neither can tongue express the joy and peace I receive in my soul. I love the narrow way, it is net lonely, for Jesus is with me. All glory be to His name! Pray for me that I may still get nearer to God, and overcome all the wiles of the devil by the word of my testimony and through the blood, that I may have a perfect trust and more faith in Jesus. For this is the victory even our faith.

Your sister saved in Christ, amen,

Dear Saints: — I have just started to serve the Lord, and need the prayers of the saints. I am twelve years old. I am justified, praise the Lord! I have not had the privilege of meeting with any of you yet. The Lord has done much for me since I started. I have had the measles and the Lord healed me. I am bound by the grace of God to gain a home in that beautiful city above, where God’s people dwell.

Dear Saints: — My testimony is, I am saved and all the Lord’s. Praise the Lord for the evening light that shines around my pathway. I am free from all that is not of God, all is on the altar and I can trust Him for all things. He is my healing physician.

I gave my heart to the Lord when I was young. I knew nothing about the second work of grace, but felt there was something more for me than I had; but when the dear saints came to this place and preached the straight Word of God, I knew it and saw where I was and I went to God with my case, and He showed me the light and told me to walk in it. I obeyed. Praise His holy name. The Lord says if any one lack wisdom let him ask of God. I do love the Word of God; how plain it seems to me; the Lord enables me to understand His holy Word. Praise the Lord for free and full salvation. I do not belong to any sect but I belong to the Church of the first born that the gates of hell can not prevail against. Pray for me.

Your sister in the Lord.
