A Wanderer Returned.

—:o:—

How far away I have wandered in sin.
And my life, how awful it’s been;
When the devil was ruling my passion within,
What a sad and dreary scene.

While I stood upon hell’s awful brink,
I did not seem to care;
I was filled with sorrow that did well nigh sink,
My soul in deep despair.

Then a sweet voice spake to my weary heart,
A voice unknown before.
Come weary one now, and never depart,
But the lover of sinners adore.

All you that are burdened, come to me just now,
And you shall find sweet rest;
That means me, I said, and will lowly bow
And lean upon His breast.

The past is all under the precious blood,
And now I am free from sin,
And the glory comes down like a sweeping flood
As the Spirit enters within.

And now I can sing as I journey along,
I know that God is love;
He has filled my heart with joy and song,
That comes from the throne above.

I have made my vows in the presence of God,
And the angels are witnesses too;
As I said, I’ll forsake the path I trod,
And follow my Savior so true.

And now I belong to the family of God,
Whose names are written above,
Who traveled the path the Savior trod,
Of joy, and peace, and love.

I am glad I have now the communion of saints
Whose hearts are aglow with pure love,
Who’ll stand by each other, and will not faint,
Ever looking for help from above.

The Lord helping me, I’ll be firm to the end,
And do what I can for my God;
I’ll work in the vineyard, until He shall send
The angels to conduct me above.

Then with my little ones gone on before
I’ll join the blood-washed throng,
And then through eternity my Savior adore,
While I join in the glad new song.

THE CLEANSING OF THE SANCTUARY.

—:o:—

TEXT — “Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake. How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under f… And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days: then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.” — Daniel 8:13, 14.

This is a very important Scripture. By the help of the Lord, we will endeavor to show,

1st. What the Sanctuary is.

2nd. What is meant by the cleansing.

3rd. Whore the 2300 days begin, and end, or the time of cleansing the Sanctuary.

For some time we have desired to write upon this subject, and recently we received a letter from a brother asking us to write articles upon Daniel’s visions. So we undertake this sublime, and wonderful prophecy, which occurs in a vision of Daniel.

First, let us see what is meant by the Sanctuary. Of all the horrid nondescript, and monstrous gods that have been carved out by heathens, as a monument of their own ignorance and gross darkness, none is more disgusting than the theory that Advents have carved out, in their delineation of the Sanctuary in this text. That all may see the utter darkness of that no-soul law cursed sect, we will give a brief statement of their theory. They tell us that the sins of the Israelites that were remitted through the blood of their sacrifices, all accumulated in the most holy place. And that on the day of atonement, when the high priest entered the holy place with the blood of the annual sacrifice, all the accumulated sins of the year were purged out, laid on the scape goat, and born away into the wilderness. And this, say they, represents the accumulation of all the sins in Heaven that have been remitted on earth since the beginning of the Gospel. And that the time that Wm. Miller prophesied the Lord would come back to this earth in 1844, He only began to clean out Heaven, by removing the sins of the pardoned that had been stored away there. “This,” says Canright, in the complete course of Tabernacle lectures,” “is in reality, the work of judgment, which is in two parts, the investigative and the executive. The investigative must occur before the resurrection: else how shall the decision be mode as in who shall share in the first resurrection.” So in the sublime (?) light of Adventism. God has no of knowing His children except by the parcels of their sins, which have been stored away in Heaven, and for the last 43 years the Lord has had the angels busy sorting out those parcels, and taking a kind of inventory of all who shall be entitled to the first resurrection. O ye blind and crooked ists, that handle the Word of God deceitfully. Ye dishonest priests of baal. You know that the Sanctuary that was to be cleansed at the close of the 2300 days, is that which the beast religion of the apostasy had “trodden under foot.” — Daniel 8:11, 13, 14, and that treading down of the sanctuary, is coincident with the taking away of the daily, or continual sacrifice, “casting down of the truth,” and the “transgression of desolation.” — Daniel 8:11, 12, 13. All of which was done by the substitution of Romanism, and Protestantism, or human organizations, for the Body of Christ, the Divine Church. The sanctuary to be cleansed is the one the apostasy polluted. Was that in Heaven above? Did the beast invade Heaven, the throne of God, and there tread down the sanctuary? No, it was here that he did that work.

“And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.” — Dan. 11:31.

The treading down of the sanctuary by the apostasy was nothing else but the corrupting of God’s Church by dropping down the standard of righteousness to sinnership religion, and the setting up of human ecclesiasticism, which is the “abomination of desolation,” the abomination that maketh desolate.” As the Church is identical with Christ — 1 Cor. 12:12 — So Christ is also our Sanctuary.

“And Ho shall he for a Sanctuary: but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin, and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.” — Isa. 8:14.

And every false system that corrupts the Church dishonors Christ.

“O Lord, why hast Thou made us to err from Thy ways, and hardened our heart from Thy fear? Return for thy servant’s sake, the tribes of Thine inheritance. The people of Thy holiness have possessed it but a little while: our adversaries have trodden down Thy Sanctuary.” — Isa. 63:17, 18.

The tabernacle and temple were the places of God’s sanctuary, and types of the true tabernacle which is the Church of God.

“And David my servant shall he king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them. And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and their children’s children for ever: and my servant David shall be their prince for ever. Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore. My tabernacle also shall be with them: yea, I will he their God, and they shall be my people. And the heathen shall know that I the Lord do sanctify Israel, when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for evermore.” — Eze. 37:24-28.

Here is the promise of Israel’s return from babylon to their own land — i. e., holiness. Then David, i. e. Christ, shall be their prince, their “one Shepherd.” Then God makes the covenant of peace with them. This is the New Covenant written on the heart by the Spirit of God, when we are sanctified, see Heb. 10:14-16. Then God’s sanctuary is set in our midst, namely His true Church brought to view. “And then shall the heathen know that I the Lord do sanctity Israel, when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for evermore.” When men return from their desolate isms, and stand together in one mind, in God’s sanctuary, or Church, then sinners begin to have confidence in their sanctification. For even sinners know that division into human clans and rival sects, is all of the devil, and utterly inconsistent with sanctification.

“Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the oppressing city! She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the Lord; she drew not near to her God. Her princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they gnaw not the hones till the morrow. Her prophets are light and treacherous persons: her priests have polluted the sanctuary, they have done violence to the law. I have cut off the nations: their towers are desolate; I made their streets waste, that none passeth by: their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, that there is none inhabitant.” — Zeph. 3:1-4, 6.

The priests becoming corrupt, polluted the sanctuary — Church — of God, and then grew up “her that is filthy, and polluted, the oppressing city,” i. e., of babylon. And then this corrupt city is called a plurality of “nations.” So this city is composed of many denominations. Out of this babylon confusion, God brings out a pure remnant — see verses 12-20. And this remnant, the salt, and true children of God, having heard, and obeyed the “voice from Heaven” — Rev. 18:4, and “come out of her,” the “filthy city,” of 666 “nations” with their many rival “towers,” cut off, ver. 6. The remnant here called out became the cleansed sanctuary. Which is purified and separated by God’s judgment upon babylon, and the sanctifying fire of the Holy Spirit, as seen in Isa. 4:2-5.

“In that day shall the branch of the Lord be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel. And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, and he that remaineth in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even every one that is written among the living in Jerusalem: When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning. And the Lord will create upon every dwelling-place of Mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defence.”

The same fire purging of the sanctuary of God is described in many other Scriptures, which we cannot further give place to in this article. But let the reader open your Bible to Isa. 10, and read from verses 16-27. The “consumption decree,” is the consuming of the corrupt works of the apostasy, 2 Thess. 2:8, which takes place but a “very little while,” before the utter destruction of babylon by Christ’s coming. Isa. 10:25. The consumption decree is now going forth, “overflowing with righteousness,” taking the “burden” and “yoke” of babylon off our “shoulders,” and “neck” and raising up a pure remnant — verses 21, 22, which is the sanctuary of God cleansed. These Scriptures are sufficient to show what the sanctuary is, and what its cleansing. Which is now going on by the allshaking and consuming fire of holiness.

We need to say no more about this matter, as we think no one but law-ventists are so blind as not to understand it.

The question all are particularly interested in is, the time when the 2300 days begin, and where they end. That they extend clear through the long apostasy of Romanism, and Protestantism, is very clear, from the whole description. The angel informed Daniel, — 8:17, that “at the time of the end shall be the vision.” And in chapter 12, we see that the “time of the end,” is clearly connected with the resurrection from the dead, and is described as the time when “many run to and fro, and knowledge is increased,” and “many are purified and made white and tried.” This is the cleansing of the sanctuary, through the true holiness evangelists, that run to and fro to-day, and “fly in the midst of Heaven,” as seen in Rev. 14: and. Matt. 24:31. It is then evident that the 2300 days are not literal days, which would only be six years and a fraction. The Scriptures should give us some clue to reckon this time. Accordingly we read,

“And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcasses be wasted in the wilderness. After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, (each day for a year,) shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.” — Num. 14:33, 34.

The forty days that the spies searched the promised land, each are made to represent a year that they should wander in the wilderness. A clay for a year. Again we read that the Lord directed Ezekiel.

“Lie thou also upon thy left side, and lay the iniquity of the house of Israel upon it: according to the number of the days that thou shalt lie upon it thou shalt bear their iniquity. For I have laid upon thee the years of their iniquity, according to the number of the days, three hundred and ninety days: so shalt thou bear, the iniquity of the house of Israel. And when thou hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the home of Judah forty days: I have appointed thee each day for a year.” — Eze. 4:4-6.

“A any for a year,” says the voice of God. At the time of this order to Ezekiel, the children of Israel were hearing their iniquity in babylon captivity which was a figure of the captivity of the New Testament Church in spiritual captivity, in sect confusion. As the Lord used “a day for a year,” to show the time ancient Israel were to bear their iniquity, so the same symbolic manner of reckoning is used to describe how long it was to be until the sanctuary — God’s Church, should be cleansed. The 2300 days therefore represent 2300 years.

The next question is, where shall we begin to reckon them from? It does not look reasonable that the Angel Gabriel should tell Daniel that it should be 2300 days until the sanctuary should be cleansed, and not give some intimation as to the point of time to reckon from. Let us look for this starting point. In Daniel 2, we have the great image of king Nebuchadnezzar’s dream described and interpreted by Daniel. The four parts of the stature we are told, represents four universal kingdoms: the last of which is the Roman Empire, and represented by the legs and feet. The “stone cut out without hands,” namely the Kingdom of God, struck the image upon its feet, that is, it was set up during the Roman Empire. This was fulfilled by Christ and the Apostles through the Holy Spirit. In chapter 7, Daniel had a vision, in which he saw “four great beasts,” and is told by the angel that “these great beasts, which are four, are four kings, (or kingdoms as the connection shows) which shall arise out of the earth.” — 7:17. Daniel was specially impressed with the fourth beast, and asked to “know the truth” of it, and was told that “the fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth,” and “the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings, (or kingdoms) that shall arise.” And the other little horn that came up among them verses 8, 24, 25, is clearly described as the papasy.

“And he shall speak great words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the MostHigh, and think to change times and laws; and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.” — Dan. 7:25.

This wearing out the saints, etc, is what is called treading down the sanctuary in the next chapter. “He shall think to change times and laws.” This is nothing else but creed making, changing and making laws over God’s Church, which was first begun by Catholicism, and has been practiced by the Protestant daughters of the Great Whore.

Now let the reader read carefully Dan. 8. Another vision comes to Daniel. This time three beasts are brought to view, leaving out the one that represented the Babylon Empire, which was then in existence, the vision was all prophetic of future events. From the last is seen rising up again the little horn of the papasy.

“And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land. And it waxed great, even to the host of Heaven; and it east down some of the host and some of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them. Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practiced, and prospered.” — Daniel 8:9-12.

By him the daily sacrifice, the continual fruits of our lips, and constant sacrifice of praise to God, was taken away. Spiritual joy was destroyed, and the sanctuary, God’s Church, was cast down.

“Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.” — Verses 13, 14.

Daniel overheard these things in his vision, but was yet left in the dark as to the meaning of the solemn vision.

“And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, and sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man. And I heard a man’s voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision. So he came near where I stood: and when he came, I was afraid, and fell upon my face: but he said unto me, Understand O son of man: for at the time of the end shall be the vision. And he said. Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be.” — Verses 15-17,19.

Gabriel having been commissioned to make Daniel understand the vision, proceeds to tell him that it extends to the “last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be.” He tells him — verses 20-24, that the ram he had seen was the Medo Persian kingdom, the goat that next arose, was the kingdom of Grecia, which is followed by still another, which answers to the Roman Empire, and following it comes forth the persecuting apostasy.

“And I Daniel fainted, and was sick certain days; afterward I rose up, and did the king’s business; and I was astonished at the vision, but none understood it.” — Dan. 8:27.

Daniel could bear no more at that time, being overcome with the majesty and revelation of God.

Some years past away, and Daniel understood not the parts of the vision, unexplained by Gabriel. But in chap. 9, we find him engaged in earnest prayer and supplication to God for Israel, and humbly confessing the sins of his wayward nation.

“O Lord, hear; O Lord forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my God: for thy city and thy people are called by thy name. And while I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the Lord my God for the holy mountain of my God; Yea, while I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation. And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding. At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to show thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision. Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy.

Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandmet to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week He shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.” — Dan. 9:19-27.

While Daniel was engaged in prayer, suddenly the angel Gabriel, whom he had seen in the vision before, and who had received a charge to make Daniel understand the vision, came unto him, “And said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding.”

Having been commissioned to make Daniel understand the vision, and having previously given him the meaning of the beasts, he had seen: the principle thing in the vision that remained unexplained was the matter of time. Daniel in that wonderful vision heard one saint speak, and ask another, “how long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary to be trodden under foot. And he said unto me until 2300 days, then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.” This matter of time was the great mystery not explained by Gabriel before. Therefore he begins his revelations by refering Daniel’s mind back to the vision, saying, “Therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision,” and then begins at once to explain the matter of time in the vision. He does not mention again the 2300 days, but informed Daniel how much time was yet allotted to the children of Israel. “Seventy weeks are determined upon the people, and upon the Holy City,” etc. In the former visit Daniel was shown that it would be 2300 days — years — till the sanctuary should be cleansed, and now the Angel says that 70 weeks, is determined yet unto the Jews, which we naturally conclude is that part of the 2300 days that belongs to Israel. Seventy weeks equal 490 days. And reckoned a day for a year would be 490 years. They being the first part of the 2300 years both necessarily begin at the same point of time. Now the next verse gives us the starting point to reckon from.

“Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.” — Dan. 9:25.

The Angel is very explicit in identifying this point to reckon from. It was to be the going forth of the commandment to restore and rebuild Jerusalem,” and farther qualified it, namely the one under which the “streets shall be built again and the wall, even in troublous times.”

I feel that they ought not to be allowed to have anything to do or say, in the assembly of the saints, unless it is to get down and get salvation, and confess their condition. Is this right?

There is yet an opening for two more meetings in the month of July. Let us hear from those who desire meeting, and fill up the time.

Joseph & Daniel.

THE WESTERN CAMPAIGN.

A Camp Meeting

has been arranged for near St James Mo. about 100 miles west of St Louis, on the St L. and SanFrancisco R. R., to begin July 27. Hope the brethren will procure rates on that road. Our next point will be

Carthage Mo.,

where Bro. Cole has arranged for a meeting Aug. 11-18. It will probably be held in a grove. Next,

Camp Meeting at Chanute, Kan..

Bro’s Haner, Orr, and others have arranged for a Camp meeting at that place. The time we name, is Aug. 19. We hope that the saints generally, and all the ministers that possibly can will meet us at those general meetings. The Lord willing we are coming and our little company, all filled with the Holy Spirit, and power, and heavenly song. We hope to meet the beloved Myers families from north Mo. at St James. We are praying God to give us a great harvest of souls in this line of meetings. Amen!

Daniel.

FUNDAMENTAL.

—:o:—

A fundamental law is that upon which some theory or structure is reared. Remove it and the super-structure sinks beyond the reach of any sounding-line, and as for all practical purposes, it is annihilated.

In one of his accounts in the indictment he presented to the world, at Copenhagen 2 Sept. 1884, Philip Schaff charges, that organized bodies which he denominates “the churches,” “violate the fundamental law of His (God’s) Gospel.”

In quoting from his address, see 3rd page of GOSPEL TRUMPET of April 15, ’87, I am made to coin the word judgmental, whereas I wrote fundamental, which last is the word he used. The following are his words.

“By persecuting, abusing and excommunicating each other, the churches do cruel injustice to their common Lord and His followers. They contract His kingdom; they lower Him from His kingly throne to the headship of a sect or party or school; they hate those whom He blesses, and they violate the fundamental law of His Gospel.”

Union and unity are fundamental laws, the Gospel of peace and good will — the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The charge under consideration, as by Bro. Schaff, is justly, rightfully and properly laid before the universal earthly court. No unbiased jury of such court can fail to find, the verdict against the accused, Guilty, “The churches,” by which term Bro. S. refers to the varied and various sects or schismatic bodies of professed christians, do necessarily, in the very act of their formation, violate the fundamental law of unity and union as shown in God’s own practical work in 1 Cor. 12th chapter. That work is there shown to be His work. “But now hath God set the members every one of them in the Body as it hath pleased Him.” The work of the sects is exactly opposite to, and destructive of such work in so far as it is possible for them, as such, to destroy. In the most emphatic practical way, they antagonize the fundamental principle of Christian union and thus aim a death dealing blow at the very vital part of the Christian religion. Love is absolutely inseparable from the Christian system. Hate is just as absolutely inseparable from the sect system. The one system is for God and the good of humanity, the other is for satan and the eternal destruction of the human race. Schism is inaugurated and utilized in its workings, as by satan and his helpers, is, no doubt, his most effectual strategy and also the one that, above all others, he will fight to maintain, so long as he shall remain unbound and at large.

THE DEAD IN SIN, RAISED UP WITH JESUS.

—:o:—

ALL who are saved by the blood of Jesus, through the Everlasting Covenant, are raised up together with Him; and are made to sit with Him in Heavenly places.

“And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by His own power.” — 1 Cor. 6:14.

God did not stop when He raised up Christ; but is raising us up to sit with His Son. Deceivers say He will not raise us up, and keep us up. Who are these people who insult God and will not obey His Word? “And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.” — 2 Thess. 3:14.

“For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.” — 1 Thess. 5:3, 4, 5.

“Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, the Lord knoweth them that are His. And let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” — 2 Tim. 2:19.

What saith the Word? “And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in Heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” — Eph. 2:6.

But the nominal professors of to day say He will raise us up when we come to die. If this is your case, you had better come to Jesus and die quick as possible.

“For he that is dead is freed from sin.” — Rom. 6:7. And freedom from sin means to be separated from all sin. And when you are separated from all sin, you are raised up with Jesus.

“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.” – Col. 3:1.

So you see, all that are free from sin are passed from death unto life, and they who are passed from death unto life are raised up with Jesus.

“And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shall be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.” — Isa. 58:12,

They that be of God shall build the old waste places; they shall raise up the foundation of many generations. How will they raise them up? Those that receive salvation are raised up with Jesus. This work is building the old waste places which is gathering into God’s Church, viz Jesus Christ.

“Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for His Body’s sake, which is the Church.” — Col. 1:24. Church, in the singular, not churches; sects in the plural. There is only on Church, but a plurality of sects.

God’s Church is raised up above the confusion of the devil.

“But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old Testament which vail is done away in Christ.” — 2 Cor. 3:14. All wholly sanctified men and women constitute the Church of the Living God.

“Whom God hath raised up, named Jesus, having loosed the pains of death because it was not possible that He should be holden of it.” Likewise He does also raise us up from the grave of sin.

“And God hath both raised up the Lord and will also raise up us by His own power.” — 1 Cor. 6:14. “We who by Him … believe in God, who raised up Christ from the dead. Likewise we are raised from the grave of sin by the power of God. So believing for salvation must come from the heart. “That if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in thine heart that God hath raise Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unrighteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. — Rom. 10:9, 10. Salvation means deliverance, as resurrection from all sin, and this condition separates us from this world, as pertaining to sin. “Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. – Rom 6:…. Yes raised from the grave and not returning: so in order to be raised up with Jesus you must come forth from the gra.. of sin, and not slide back into sin again. Full salvation is sanctification, and sanctification is to be dead to everything be Jesus. “For if we have been planted together in the likeness of His death, we shall be also in the likeness of His resurection.” — Rom. 6:5. All that are willing shall be raised up with Him. If you are not free from all sin, the result is, you are not resurrected: you must awake o.. of your awful stupidity of sin, or the wrath of God will fall upon you.

“Wherefore He saith, Awake thou th.. sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.” — Eph. 5:14. “Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.” — 1 Col. 15:34.

In like manner, you who are sinners will have to become dead to this world and all sin. And the way to become dead to sin is to fall into the ground and … Spiritually speaking: then God will raise you up in His own likeness, and you shall be quickened by the Spirit of the Lord. Then instead of bearing fruit for the devil you will bring forth fruit unto God. … hallelujah to the Omnipotent God!

“And being made perfect, He became the author of’eternal salvation unto a.. them that obey Him. — Heb. 5:9.

You must be ready in this world to meet the Lord, or you will never meet Him i.. peace. “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.” — 1 Pet. 3:15.

“Wherefore; beloved, seeing that ye look: for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of Him in peace, without spot, and blameless.” — 2 Peter 3:14.

Page 3

“In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ. Buried with Him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with Him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised Him from the dead.” — Col. 2:11, 12.

“Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son.” — Col. 1:13.

“But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of Him that created Him.” — Col. 3:8-10.

“And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” — Eph. 4:24.

“And as concerning that He raised Him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, He said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.” — Acts 13:34.

“This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.” — Acts 2:32.

“Because He hath appointed a day, in the which He will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom He hath ordained; whereof He hath given assurance unto all men, in that He hath raised Him from the dead.” — Acts 7:31.

“Of this man’s seed hath God, according to His promise, raised unto Israel a Savior, Jesus.” — Acts 13:23.

Amen! “I speak the truth in Christ.” I will testify of the Gospel of the grace of God.

OBITUARY.

—:o:—

Sister Frances E. Brosius was born March 3, 1852, in Cass Co. Mo.. She became a member of the Church by adoption during the winter of ’86. The dear Lord Himself added her to the Church — the Body of Christ. She was sanctified in the month of August of the same year; and was a wife and mother in the true sense of those blessed words a source of happiness to her beloved husband and two little boys. Yes all around her.

But, on Monday of March 19, the dear Savior came to their house and took her with Him to the Heavenly Mansion He had prepared for her. She accompanied Him with joy and gladness. We know not why He took our loved one away from our midst; but we do know that he doeth all things well. “Blessed are they that die in the Lord from henceforth.”

The funeral services were conducted by Brother B. Loyd on March 20 at their residence in Sedan Kan.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

—:o:—

Petoskey Mich., May 18, ’87.

Dear Saints scattered abroad, we send greeting in the love and joy of the Holy Spirit. Our souls are filled with the mighty power of God this blessed morning while we write. As the bright Sun floods the earth with its light so bright without, our soul is flooded with the blessed Sun of righteousness within. O the way grows brighter and brighter before us. We love this holy way. O hallelujah to God and the Lamb!

We closed meeting at Dwight last Lord’s day with glorious victory on the side of King Jesus. There were about 40 who claimed the witness of the Spirit to their pardon, and a few were wholly sanctified to God. O bless the name of Jesus! How the great King of righteousness did shower down His Spirit upon us. While the rocks and clubs were hurled against the house with all the power that hell could summon, the children of the Living God were shouting His praises within, with joy unspeakable and full of glory. Hallelujah! The saints of God have a glorious place to worship in at Dwight.

Dear Bro. Coon and wife both gave their hearts to Jesus, and opened a building which had been used for a store on their place, and arranging seats, we had a good place for worship. The dear Lord bless them all. It is wonderful how the Lord is cleansing people from that abominable weed, tobacco. Even sinners go from the house of God, and take the stuff from their pockets and throw it away, saying “no more of it for me, after hearing what the Scriptures say about the filthiness of the flesh.” O how can professors who claim to be the children of God use such an ungodly, unholy, filthy, abominable stuff as this weed tobacco. Yet even people who claim to be ministers of the Gospel will go puffing and blowing a cloud of smoke after them, like a R. R. locomotive, and chewing and spitting the terrible filth upon God’s foot-stool. O shame on you who stand as a light for the people. Your light is darkness, and how great is that darkness. One dear Bro. near Ironton was convicted of the habit, and while testifying for Jesus, he began to pray, and kneeling down before the stove, began to search his pockets for all he had, and opening the stove door he said, “here Jesus I consecrate it, I don’t want it any longer.” Then he rose up shouting praises to God. The sect devil raged because this dear brother cleansed his garments, but he has the holy fire in his soul. The Protestant Methodist sect was nearly all destroyed at that place by the straight Word of God; and since we came away, I hear that the remaining ones have declared themselves free from her. Glory! Glory be to God! Amen!

Lord’s day evening we preached in the town Hall at East Jordan. The hall was nearly filled with an attentive audience. Some came to us after meeting and grasped our hands, and said, “this is what I have wanted to hear. It is the Gospel of Christ.” This was the largest congregation of professors we ever spoke to, outside of the free saints of God. About two thirds of the congregation were professors. God save them from their idols for Jesus’ sake. Amen!

Tuesday morning we took steamer at Dwight for Petoskey, where we are at present. Dear Bro. W. Cushman, who was wonderfully saved while we were at Dwight, who resides at Petoskey, came home and hired the U. B. house for us, and we stop here two nights, after which we go to Pellston to stay a week, or as long as the Lord wills. Amen!

Your blood-washed and blood-bought Bro., sanctified wholly to Christ.

Dear Brethren: — May the grace, peace and glory of God be with you all. Amen.

I praise God this day for a salvation that completely delivers us from all sin, both inbred and committed, through which we are filled with the double everlasting joy. Always rejoicing with joy unspeakable and full of glory. Hallelujah to the Lamb of God forever! Amen!

Last Nov., Bro. and sister Stowell, and myself were led of the Lord to go and hold meeting near Morley Mich., they having been blessed of the Lord with property near that place. We held our first meeting Nov. 21st, and continued meetings as the weather permitted, and as the Lord directed us, and much good was done in the name of the Lord. God met with us at all times with power and great glory, and His grace and wisdom was sufficient for us in carrying on the work of the Lord, and preaching the straight Word of God. Hallelujah! Souls were convicted, and consecrated themselves to the Lord. The number of those who sought for pardon, or holiness was 27, but as it was in the days of our Savior, many of His disciples went back and walked no more with Him. All but ten of that number are standing firm in the service of the Lord, filled with His grace and glory, most of whom are blessedly sanctified, and filled with the Holy Spirit, and shouts of victory. Four out of the fourteen have not yet entered into the fulness, but we pray the Lord to bless and keeep them from the snares of the fouler, and help them to speedily plunge into the fountain, and be made complete in Christ Jesus. We found some honest, hungry souls in those parts, of whom were dear mother Milks, and Bro. Timothy Bar, both of those dear saints had besought the Lord earnestly to send in some of His true worshipers with whom they might worship God in Spirit and in truth. May the Lord ever bless and keep them filled with the Spirit of true holiness, and use them to His glory. Amen! May the dear Lord bless and reward dear Bro. and sister Green for their kindness and labor of love to God’s little ones, whose house was always open for meetings, and whose hands were ever ready to minister to the saints. It is wonderful what the Lord has done for dear sister Green; the health she has enjoyed since she was healed of the Lord. She was an invalid more or less nearly all her life, but since the healing power of God went through her body, she has been able to do her work. May the Lord bless them, and all the dear saints.

We left the Church for a season, filled with the Spirit and love of Jesus. For the present, we expect to labor for the Lord in, and around Sherman City, where we expect a glorious work to be done for the Lord. Let all the saints of God everywhere, pray for us and the work in these parts.

Your wholly sanctified Bro., on the uncompromising line, straight for God, dead to sin, and alive to God.

Dwight, Mich.

Praise the Lord! I am free in Jesus and am a member of the Body of Christ, belong to the family of God, and have been made partaker of His holiness. Bless the Lord forever! “We are builded together a Spiritual house, a holy priesthood, a habitation of God through the Spirit, and have all been made to drink of that Spiritual Rock, and that Rock was Christ.” For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one Body, and are all made partakers of that one Body, and that Body is Christ. “For Jesus, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered without the gate; so must we go without the camp bearing His reproach.” We must “suffer with Him” if we would reign with Him.

Praise the name of Jesus; after the Father of whom the whole family in heaven and in earth are named. “His Spirit giveth life, and that life is the light of men.” O how marvelous is Thy love, and Thy ways past finding out. How His Spirit shines into poor darkened sinner’s hearts.

Jesus says “Come unto me, and I will give you rest.” “Whosoever will, let him come, and drink of the water of life freely.” Yes freely, without money, and without price, and yet it cost the crucifixion of Jesus, the only begotten Son of God. O how much He suffered to redeem poor fallen man. Who can refuse so great a salvation? It makes my heart bleed to see so many refuse to have the blessed Savior to reign in their hearts.. The gentle holy Jesus reigns in my heart every moment, and He saves me from all sin. His blood makes me whiter than snow. Bless the Lord forever! He saves me from all sin and sanctifies my soul. I rejoice in a risen Savior; praise the Lord forever and ever! Your sister under the blood.

Dear Brethren: — I am saved and washed in the blood of the Lamb, kept, from all sin, and have the blessed assurance that I am all on the altar, and that the blessed Savior will lead me, even down to the valley of the shadow of death, and will not forsake me. Last December the Lord healed me of Catarrh: I had suffered with it for twenty years. I feel so thankful to the Lord, for sending Bro. Warner here to preach the Gospel in its purity, for it brought me out in the straight light. I am walking in all the light of God.

We would like to have some of the dear brethren come here and hold a meeting after the Jerry City Camp Meeting if the Lord is willing. I am sanctified and kept.

Praise the Lord! I am saved from all sin, and kept by the power of God. The Lord is working here, and souls are being saved. Praise the Lord! there were 14 baptized here some time ago, they obeyed the Lord by being buried with Him in baptism. Praise the Lord! Old babylon is wonderfully stirred. The Lord helps us to give the awful Word of God to the people, and it does stir the devil, for it is like a hammer that breaketh the rocks to pieces. Your brother saved in Christ, and sanctified wholly.

Dear “Brethren: — I am glad in my heart that I can say truly I am saved and sanctified, and kept; and have overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of my testimony. I have sweet communion with God, and He fills my soul with the Holy Spirit, and I am made to rejoice, even in affliction which I have been under for nearly eight years, so great as to be almost beyond endurance. Yea, through it all the dear Lord has kept me by His grace Divine, and to Him I look for my help, comfort, and salvation. Pray for me.

Dear Brethren: — I am saved to the uttermost from all sin, and all the works of the devil. Praise the Lord for salvation full and free, “For whom the Son makes free is free indeed.” I am free from the use of tobacco, and all the lusts of the flesh: “For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh, but they that are after the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.” – – Rom. 8:5.

Atlanta, Kan.

Dear Saints: — Praise God for full salvation! I have but lately found this blessed way, but the peace and joy I have in God, words cannot express. Less than one month ago I was wandering around in the mists and fogs of babylonian confusion, not knowing where I went. But praise God! to-day I am on the promise and under the blood, sanctified wholly and kept by the power of God; while peace as a mighty river flows through my soul. On the seventh day of last Oct. I attended the Annual conference of the M. E. sect held at Atchison, Kan. and was there admitted as a traveling preacher on trial and was sent to a circut lying in Cowley and Butler counties. I became convicted for holiness and struggled after it, but did not understand how to take it by faith, but rather tried to grow into it. But the Lord sent dear Bro’s J. P. Haner and R. W. Mecum to Atlanta, and under their instruction I entered into the glorious experience of entire sanctification. Praise the Lord forever! Bro. Haner preached with great power against the evils of sectarianism and the Lord enabled me to see the awful corruption of babylon, and I have obeyed the voice which says “come out of her.” I am free from the Mark of the beast and all his dust. I have enlisted to fight for God and preach His Gospel in all of its purity, and by the grace of God do all I can to tear down satan’s kingdom, destroy his work and save precious souls, even if it lake ray life. How it makes my heart rejoice to work for the salvation of souls. Praise the name of Jesus! I have witnessed more of the power of the Holy Ghost during the short time that I have been in the order of God, than I have ever seen in babylon during all my past life. O the joy of living a life free from all sin. I praise the Lord that He sent the Brethren here, and that I have found this glorious way. My life time and all my powers shall forever be used just as my Father directs. Your Saved Brother.

To all the saints of God: — May the richest of God’s grace rest upon His dear saints.

As I have been reading in the TRUMPET for some time of the wonderful works of God, and what He was doing for His children. I could not some how receive it altogether. It seemed my heart was closed; but bless God! last night He helped me to open my heart, and I just accepted it all. Then the Lord showed me some wonderful things. O praises be unto our great Redeemer. I saw Brother Warner and his band last night, and they came to me. Some were on horses, some on foot, and some in buggies, and each one had a staff in his hand, and like the thundering volcano, as they ran the earth did shake beneath their feet. I awoke, but the vision went on until it was finished. After Brother Warner had spoken awhile, the rest began to sing, and O what sweet music! It filled the whole Heavens with rapture and it seemed I was carried into glory.

Their coming on horses and on foot each signified their humbleness of spirit, and the mighty power of God. Therefore my whole soul was in it while the tears rolled down my cheeks, and I could just say, Amen! even so Lord Jesus Thy will be done. Blessed be the name of my God! Oh I cannot begin to tell what wonderful things Jesus is doing for me. Glory to God! It is Heaven come down to earth. Oh bless God’s holy name that while the world may think because God has restrained the hand of His wrath, and has not executed judgment upon the wicked for their ungodly deeds, that He is dead; but I call the world to record this day how is it with thy soul? O ye sect professors, and non-professors, is it well with thee? Get out of darkness and walk in the light. “If any person says he has fellowship with Him and walk in darkness, he is a liar and the truth is not in him.” While God’s little ones are out telling of this wonderful salvation, to grasp souls that are today lingering on the brink of hell, we see the old rotten hearted sect priests and hypocrites fly to pieces and froth, foam, and gnash with their teeth, and even cast some of the saints in prison, for the Word of God and the testimony of the Lamb. “Bejoice O Heaven and give thanks O earth; for the Lord hath redeemed Zion and hath glorified Himself in Israel.” Praise God’s holy name! After the enemies have done their worst, they throw themselves back into the devil’s cradle of sectarianism and cry out, “Rock me to sleep mother, rock me to sleep.” They think because God does not send His judgments on them, they can go on in sin and rebelion against God, and at last be saved. Oh sinner beware! You need not think because God has not struck you down that there is no danger; for sudden destruction will come upon you.

Bless God! I have a present experience and that is, the blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth me just now from all sin, and sanctifies me wholly.

Dear Brethren: — Having read a copy of the GOSPEL TRUMPET, allow me to say, that what I can learn from it, that your belief is mine, that is, in the Church of Christ. Although I am connected with the M. E. sect, I have often thought there was too much idolatry practiced not only in this, but in all the sects. But I was afraid to raise my weak voice against it. Now I want you all to pray God that I may be lead in the right direction. I was converted to God soundly and sweetly on the 8th of September, and on, or about the 15th of Nov. same year, I was sanctified. Praise Jesus! Since that time I have been kept by the power of God every day. Your Bro. and sister in Christ.

Dear Brethren: — I have the experience of the second work of grace in my soul. Bless the Lord! The book on the Second Work of Grace ought to be in the hands of every one who claim this experience, and still belong to the sect. I am doing all in my power to advance the cause of Christ, the Church of the Firstborn. There are only three or four saints in this place, and if any of the brethren want to come to this State, especially an evangelist, please send them to us. The people are dying for want of the pure Gospel in this country. Come and help us brethren, if you can. Any of the saints wanting to move and settle in a nice, healthy, mild climate, and very rich land, price for the same moderate, I do not believe you could do better on this coast than to come to this valley. We do long to see the saints for we dearly love them. Your Bro. in Christ.

WHO WANTS A CHEAP FARM?

—:o:—

Bro. A. C. Bigler of Alpena Dekota writes us that his son has 160 acres of good land in Dak., two miles from a R. R. and a nice town that he offeres very cheap. Only asking about what will cover the improvements etc. The son is not well and they desire to sell the land and all come to the Bangor camp meeting, get fully saved and healed, and also give a part to the TRUMPET cause. We greatly wish some one could thus assist them to the meeting, and doubtless make a very profitable investment for the Lord. Let any Bro. that has some means, write Bro. Bigler and enquire into this matter, and learn what is the will of God concerning you. O let the saints of God help each other. Bro. Bigler has taken the TRUMPET ever since it started. He and companion and son desire greatly to come to the Camp meeting and obtain full salvation. May the Lord open their way. What thou doest do quickly.

(Continued from 1st page.)

To find this decree and its fulfillment, you have but to read Nehemiah chapters 2 to 6 inclusive, and you see the angel’s prediction perfectly filled. In the year 445 before Christ Nehemiah obtained a commission from Artaxerxes king of Babylon, to go up to Jerusalem and repair the walls, and streets thereof, which was accomplished under great difficulty, and in the very face of many foes, who sought by every possible means to stop the work. But the walls were built, and the breaches thereof closed up in spile of all their enemies could do.

“But in troublous times.”

Let us see if we can find reasons for connecting this event with the cleansing of the Church of God, His Sanctuary, from the heap of rubbish that the apostasy had piled around it.

Praise God! we see something grand in this, which we can only here take time to hint at. There is an exact parallel between the description of Nehemiah 2-6 and the present work of cleansing the sanctuary, or restoring the complete walls of salvation, and gates of praise, to the Heavenly Jerusalem, or Church of the First-born. The walls were principally standing but contained many breaches, and all the gates had been burned with fire, during the Babylonian captivity. So during the spiritual babylon captivity, the salvation that was taught was full of breaches. A mixture of truth and error, is like a wall full of holes. Truth constitutes a wall of separation between saints and sinners, but error lets the devil and his children in among the mixed babylon masses. And as Sanballat, Tobiah, and all their hosts were enraged against the work of closing up the breaches: so the devil stirs up all his religious children to fight us while setting up the true walls of God’s salvation which leaves all sinners outside. So we have had lo labor in troublous times, fulfilling the above figure, and those predictions. Dan. 12:1. Matt. 24:21. 2 Tim. 3:1. Rev. 12:7. 16:18.

As the walls represented salvation, so the closing up and finishing of those walls represents the experience and publication of complete salvation, which outs off, and purges out all sin, and therefore cleanses the sanctuary that has been trodden under foot of the sect religion of the apostasy.

Therefore, because the restoration of the wall about Jerusalem was a glorious figure of the perfect restoration of God’s pure Church, the former event is made the starting point to reckon the time until the latter event. According to our common chronology, this important decree was foretold by the angel 93 years before it came to pass, and was accomplished by Nehemiah the prophet. By reference to Nehe. 2-6 you will see in your Bibles that not the chronology, that the decree that marked the commencement of the 2300 days, or years, went forth 445 years before Christ. By subtracting the 445 years B. C. from the whole 2300 years, we find how many years they extend after Christ, 445 from 2300 leave 1855. Thus we see the 2300 years extend to A. D. 1855.

“Then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.” Which we have shown was to be done by the fire of holiness. About that time the holiness doctrine began to revive, and develop into a general movement, the avowed object of which was to cleanse what was called the churches. Now we can show by other prophesy that this work of cleansing the sanctuary, was not to be done in one day, or year, but cover considerable time. So the 2300 days may terminate at the beginning, middle, or end, of the time required to cleanse the sanctuary.

But let us look at the matter again. The Christian era began when Christ was four years old, as you may see by opening a reference Bible, and reading in the margin of Matt. 2:1, where it speaks of the birth of Christ, these words. “The fourth year before the common account, called Anno Domini.” — So the Christian era did not begin until four years after the birth of Christ. But when Daniel says “unto the Messiah,” he locates it at the time “to anoint the Most holy.” This anointing doubtless refers to the descent of the Spirit of God upon him, when baptized. This was in A. D. 27, as you will see in the margin of Matt. 3:13. Now if we start the Christian era 27 years farther this way according to Daniel’s point of reckoning, it brings the expiration of the 2300 days 27 years farther this way, and they would terminate in 1882. This accords better with facts, and also with other lines of prophetic truth. Thank God! It is a fact to-day that the dragon and his angels have been cast out, the Sanctuary is cleansed, and the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His Wife hath made herself ready; for to her is granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white; for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.” Daniel’s holy messengers have been “running to and fro,” “knowledge” of full salvation has “increased,” and many have “been purified, made white, and tried.” The angels of God, His ministers whom He makes a flame of fire, have measured the temple — the place of God’s Sanctuary — and the altar, and them that worship there, but the court, (sinners) they have left out.” — Rev. 11. Thus the sanctuary that sect abomination had rendered desolate, is being cleansed, and the angel Gabriel’s announcement is proving true to-day.

There are many particulars connected with Gabriel’s revelation that we cannot now speak of. As the Lord continues to enlighten our mind, we will give to you as He gives to us.

We observe that Adventists figure out the 2300 days as reaching only to 1844. How is that? They base their calculation on the decree of Artaxerxes in Ezra 7, Which was in the year 457 B. C., and by adopting a round about process of figuring partly based upon assertions for which they have no Scripture, they bring around the time to 1844, all for the glory of Adventism. But beside their subtle figuring, there are two fatal points in their theory. First, because the preaching of the Milleristic lie did not give any of them a clean heart, they conclude that the cleansing of the sanctuary must be going on up in Heaven. Second, Daniel says the time to reckon from is that of the decree going forth to build Jerusalem, “the streets and the wall.” But in Ezra 7, where they reckon from is nothing of the kind. Not one word said about rebuilding Jerusalem, her “streets and walls,” but a decree to furnish means and beasts, to institute the sacrifices of the law, and to return the vessels of gold. This is just like all the Bible interpretations of that most dark horn of beast religion.

Daniel.

Dear Brethren: — I am praising God for full salvation which keeps me from sin. O praise God for complete victory over the devil. He has done so much for me, He has healed me soul and body. O glory to Jesus for the love of God I feel in my heart. I am walking in the light of my blessed Savior, and trusting in Him. O hallelujah to God! I am free from babylon, and I am saved and sanctified. Praise the Lord! Your sister in Christ.

Dear Brethren: — This moment finds me saved, sanctified and kept by the power of God. Glory to His name for His saving and keeping power. I have great reasons to praise Him for His healing power. God healed me of a disease that no earthly physician could cure. I had the asthma from a child, in its worst form. But praise God, two years ago I was healed by the power of God. Glory to His holy name! I also belonged to the U. B. sect, but God revealed to me how wrong they were, and I am out from among them. O how the persecution was heaped upon me when I was healed and came out of her. O praise God for freedom! Your Bro.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

FROM PENNSYLVANIA.

—:o:—

AFTER closing the meeting at Mount Pleasant Chapel, we came to Red Valley. The Odd Fellows opened their hall at Davis Corners, and invited us to come and hold meetings there. We accepted the invitation, and held there for a few nights. The truth was well received by all except some of the most sectarian Methodists, which made a great stir about this way, and clamored for their sect idol. Some of them however believed, and one sister made her escape from the sect abomination. She consecrated herself to God and received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the sanctifier, and afterwards was immersed in water and came forth shouting for joy. O hallelujah to God! At that place one evening I mentioned during my remarks, that one of their preachers had actually been drunk on intoxicating liquor, which so enraged some of the M. E. sectarians, that as soon as the meeting was closed, there came near being a pugilistic encounter. If some of the common sinners had been as beligerent as those Methodists, there would have been blood shed. One of them called a man a liar, and flourished his fist like a savage his war club, also another rushed across the room in a warlike atitude, and for some time a desperate conflict seemed inevitable. The people at that place many of them would have been saved could we have remained longer. We were kindly treated and entertained by same of the noble citizens in that vicinity, which also assisted us with their means, for which they have our heart felt thanks and prayers.

From there we went to Red Lion Chapel where we held meeting late in the fall and beginning of winter. The Lord began to work by His Spirit and power. The Cottage prayer meetings were glorious. O how the mighty power of God was manifested, the noise of shouting and of the praises of God could have been heard afar off. The mighty fire of the Spirit is burning up all the chaff, and sweeping every thing before it. The people are anxious for the truth, and many are convicted for salvation, and we believe will yet be saved. Every thing moves on in the order of God. We held meetings at the Chapel one week, during which time there was six sanctified and six converted. On Sunday, May 1st, we went down to a beautiful stream of water and six were immersed into the name of Jesus, and came forth out of the water shouting and praising the Lord. O how the Lord did bless our souls in obeying the truth. Glory to God!

After we closed the meeting and bade the brethren farewell, we had healing services at Sister Smith’s and five claimed their healing. O may the Lord continue His blessings to the dear saints, and all the people. May we meet in eternity on the right hand of God if not on earth. Amen!

DEAR BRETHREN: — May the Lord bless you. I feel led to tell the dear saints, through the TRUMPET, how the Lord blessed our souls in preaching the Word to the people on the Merimec River in Crawford Co., Mo. God gave us the victory over every opposing element, and my soul was basking in the Sun-light of Heaven. Praise God for the wonderful power He gives to those who dare preach the whole Word. O how I feel the power of this Scripture: “Speak unto them all that I command thee; be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them.” — Jer. 1:17. These Scriptures were given me when the Lord called me to preach. When God puts the Word upon His chosen ones to speak, and they speak with the Holy Ghost sent down from God, those that cannot bear judgment, cry “love, love,” “judge not lest you be judged.” etc. When the Apostle Paul was speaking to the people they said he was mad. So it is now if a man preaches as God demands him to do. He says, Cry aloud and spare not, show my people their transgressions, and the house of Jacob their sin. — Isa. 58:1. Again, reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. — 2 Tim. 4:2. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears. — verse 3. They desire to be teachers that will not offend, or will preach smooth words so that none will get offended. Jesus said He did not come to send peace, but a sword. — Matt. 10:34. Wherever the Word is preached the devil is aroused, and causes commotion. Blessed are those who are able to stand.

We began meeting at Bro. Pinsons house April 9, continued until the 14th. One justified, one sanctified, several seeking. It was a real settling down meeting for the saints. Seven obeyed the Lord in the ordinance of baptism. The power came on them while in the water, making it impossible for them to stand without help. Praise God for the good old way! We went from the water to Bro. Cook’s, where we had an ordinance meeting. Twenty-eight took part in washing the saints feet and the Lord’s supper. The Lord manifested His power in a most wonderful way. It was the grandest meeting that ever has been known in these parts. Praise the Lord! The meeting began about 6 o’clock in the evening and continued until near midnight. The power was on the saints from the beginning to the end of the meeting. Some of the saints came in the house leaping, shouting, and praising God. Hallelujah to God and the Lamb forever! I went from there to Friendship School-house, three miles east of St James. While on the road, being pressed down in spirit, I knelt down and asked the Lord what it meant; He showed me how the devil was plotting against us, so I prayed until I got the victory over him, and the Lord showed me that not a hair of our heads should perish. So I went on and began the meeting the 15th, and continued until the 17th. The devil was awfully stirred up, but God gave us the victory. O glory to His holy name forever and ever! Two sanctified at that place during the meeting. O how I praise God that He has delivered me from the opinions of men and their applause, and that I am where God can lead me and use me. O glory to His holy name forever and ever! Now may the God of Heaven bless all the dear saints, and keep them from falling is my earnest prayer. And to them that are chosen of God to preach the Word, God has promised that they should fight against you, but they shall not prevail. Praise God for His goodness to all that hear and do His will.

Your Bro. saved, sanctified and kept by the power of God.

To the Church of the First-born, whose names are written in Heaven. Glory to Jesus for His saving power!

On the 4th of April we held meeting in the Horsecreek neighbor-hood: the Lord was with us in power: six baptized. We went to Barnes school-house for an all day meeting; first meeting began at 9 o’clock, and lasted till after 2: we preached from Eze. 4:7, and Rev. 22:1. The Lord manifested His mighty power, 18 came to the altar, some for forgiveness of sins, and others for entire sanctification; all were blessed of God. Seventytwo were buried in the liquid grave. O what glory came down our souls to greet. We had an intermission for two hours, and commenced service again at 4 o’clock. Bro. Johneycake preached, and the power of God was still wonderful, and some 4 or 5 more found their way to the altar. It was a wonderful day for the Lord. We went from there to the Johneycake school-house, on Lightening Creek, and held meeting on the same night. The saints were much strengthened. From there we went to Silver Lake, where the Lord again showed His mighty power, there was 26 at the altar; God wonderfully blest them. Ten followed the Lord in baptism; we left the Church there in good condition. From there we went to Verdigris, and found the Church in a very bad condition: no union whatever. God helped us to give them the Word, whice is judgment. The fogs of babylon were dense. Seven or eight presented themselves at the altar, and victory came flooding in. Glory to Jesus! I then returned to McDonald Co. Mo. I am now through in these parts, and expect to go elsewhere, wherever the blessed Lord may lead. Bro. Johneycake has returned home to the Indian Territory.

Dearly Beloved pray the blessed Lord that we may ever be found at the feet of Jesus, and be faithful servants to Him doing all His required and blessed will.

Amen, and Amen!

J. L. Haner.

P.S. — Bro. Charles Johneycake has been a Baptist preacher for twelve years, until late; now he is a true disciple and on the fire line for God, crying aloud and sparing none: is also head chief of his band or tribe, Deleware Indians, and lives on Lightening Creek, I. T. He is 67 years of age, and well to do in this world, and blessedly saved and sanctified in Jesus. These meetings were fill field in the Indian Ter.

Six Points, Wood Co. O.

Dear Bro. Warner: — God bless you. I am well, saved by the blood of Jesus and fully in the hands of the Lord. I am giving all my time to the cause of God. There are a few being saved. Praise the Lord! During the latter part of the fall season and first part of the winter there were quite a number saved. Since then there has not many been saved at a place, but a few at every meeting except two. There are many places calling for the bread of life more than we can supply. There seem to be perfect harmony here now, the congregations are large, some souls have been saved. Six at the altar last night, other gave up and promised to come. Pray for us. The brethren from the Roush Church were here over the last Lord’s day. We expect to hold the next meeting with them and then go either to Dark Co. O. … to Whitley Co. Ind. Praise God! We pray that God may overthrow the work of the devil and build up the cause of Christ in these parts of the earth. Love to all. God bless them all. Amen!

From your brother saved by the blood.
