At Some in God.

—:o:—

O thou by long experience tried,
Near whom no grief can long abide;
My love! how full of sweet content,
I pass my years of banishment.

All scenes alike engaging prove
To souls impressed with sacred love!
Where’er they dwell, they dwell in Thee,
In Heaven, in earth, or on the sea.

To me remains nor place nor time,
My country is in every clime,
I calm, am free from care,
On any shore since God is there.

While place we seek, or place we shun,
The soul finds happiness in none;
But with a God to guide our way,
’Tis equal joy to go or stay.

Could I be cast where Thou art not,
That were indeed a dreadful lot;
But regions none, remote I call,
Secure of finding God in all.

My country Lord art thou alone,
Nor other can I claim or own,
The point where all my wishes meet,
My law, my love, life’s only sweet.

I hold by nothing here below,
Appoint my journey, and I go,
Though pierced by scorn, oppressed by pride,
I feel Thee good, feel naught beside.

No frowns of men can hurtful prove,
To souls on fire with Heavenly love:
Tho’ men and devils both condemn,
No gloomy days arise from them.

All then to His embrace repair.
My soul thou art no stranger there:
There love divine shall be thy guard,
And peace and safety thy reward.

PROTESTANTISM, THE SECOND BEAST EXPOSED.

—:o:—

MUCH has been written in the last few centuries in regard to the errors of Roman Catholicism which is the first beast spoken of in the 13th chapter of Revelation. The time has now come when the errors of Protestantism must be shown and made manifest, both by history and the Word of God. And then shall that wicked be revealed whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of His mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of His coming. — 2 Thess. 2:8. Praise God! The Holy Spirit has revealed to us this “Mystery of iniquity.” Glory to God forever!

At the beginning of the 16th century, when Martin Luther and many other people of Germany began to read the Word of God for themselves, the devil saw that there were many of the people he could no longer delude by his Roman Catholic sect, so he made those who had come out believe that they would have to organize, and draw up a creed to govern them, and have it for their rule of faith. The devil also persuaded them that they must make ‘This creed conform as near as possible to the doctrine of the Romish church. This creed was drawn up in 1530 by Melancthon and is known as the confession of Augsburg. Soon after this creed was drawn up the devil saw that it was not quite near enough like his old babel, so he made them believe that in order to quell the dispute which had arisen between his two babels they must revise the creed. Whereupon Malanchthon and some others prepared a a revised edition of the confession of Augsburg, called the Smalcald Articles in which some concessions were made toward the Romish system. “And he exercised all the power of the first beast before him, and caused the earth and them that dwell therein to worship the first beast whose deadly wound was healed. – Rev. 13:12.

The Confession of Augsburg is the oldest Protestant creed and is still in use as rule of faith in the Lutheran sect.

This beast was to come up out of the earth, that is, it was to come up by the instigation of men and the devil; for God gave men no authority in His Word to organize sects and make creeds to live by as a rule of faith.

The first beast was to be wounded by the sword which is the Word of God, and at this time people in all the civilized countries of the world began to read the Word of God for themselves. The devil therefore was compelled to turn his attention to other countries beside Germany, for the people in other places had wounded the first beast by using the Word of God, and their eyes were being opened and they saw clearly that the Roman Catholic organism was not the Church of God. If the people would have been straight for Christ and have remained in that condition the would to the first beast would have proved fatal, but this was not according to prophecy, for the deadly wound was to be healed, and the devil done this healing by bringing up this second beast which compelled all the nations of the earth to worship the first beast by adopting some of her principles and her formality, and by calling her the mother church.

In England the devil put it in the mind of king Henry VIII to place himself head over those who had come out in England. He therefore in 1534 by the aid of parliament decreed and confered upon himself the title of the only supreme head of the church of England. All who would not accept him as the head of the church he caused to be put in prison and many were put to death.

In Switzerland, John Galvin who was counted one of the greatest of reformers, became the head of the church. Yet he was a sinner as you will learn from his own testimony which I copy from history. “I have” he writes, “no harder battles against my sins, which are great and numerous, than those in which I seek to conquer my impatience. I have not yet gained the mastery over this raging beast.” John Calvin also caused some to be put to death because they did not believe as he did.

I have now given the reader a condensed view of the beginning and root of Protestantism. We now apply the Word of God on her and you will at once see her condition. “If the first fruit is holy the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy so are the branches.” — Rom. 11:16.

“Every plant which my heavenly Father hath not planted shall be rooted up,” — Matt. 15:13.

From the first, the Protestants have had the spirit of division and strife and have continued to divide and follow after man, till the number of sects amounts to the number prophesied of by John the Revelator. “Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast; for it is the number of a man, and his number is 666. — Rev. 13:18.

The last 350 years has been the day of Protestantism. It has not been so dark as the night which preceded it, in which Roman Catholicism reigned supreme; but it has been a day in which the light was not clear nor dark, as was prophesied.

“And it shall come to pass in that day that the light shall not be clear nor dark: But it shall be one day which shall he known to the Lord, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass that at evening time it shall be light. — Zech. 14:6, 7.

Praise God! the evening light has come, and we can serve God in purity and truth.

The “Mystery of iniquity” is being revealed, and will be shortly taken out of the way. For we have heard the voice of the angel which says: “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. And I heard another voice from Heaven, saving, Come out of her my people (God’s people have been in her) that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities. — Rev. 18:2, 4, 5.

We expect to give the reader more than twenty Bible reasons why we reject and expose this second beast Protestantism, the 666 sects. We expect to obey the Word of God which says, “Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double to her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double. How much she hath glorified herself and lived deliciously, so much sorrow and torment give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.” — Rev. 18:6, 7.

She hath said, “you cannot live a Christian unless you belong to a sect.” We will return the compliment by saying, You cannot (since God has called you out) live a Christian and belong to her, and here are some of the reasons;

  1. Because her sects are organized by men; and not by the Holy Spirit as the Word teaches. — 1 Cor. 12th chapter.
  2. Her preachers are hirelings. “A hireling careth not for the sheep. — John 10:13 Read Ezekiel 34th chapter.
  3. They are full of dead formality. “Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof, from such turn away,” – 2 Tim. 3:5.
  4. They deny the healing power by prayer and faith. Read James 5:14, 15.
  5. They say a person cannot live without committing sin, and that every person sins more or less every day. “Whosoever abideth in Christ sinneth not.” “He that committeth sin is of the devil.” — 1 John 3:6, 8.
  6. They do not keep the commandments of Christ. “He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” — 1 John. 2:4.
  7. They have rejected the Holy Ghost who is to guide a Christian into all truth. They are “ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” — 2 Tim. 3:7. “Ye do always resist the Holy Ghost.” — Acts 7:51.
  8. Because Protestantism is composed of divisions or sects. Is Christ divided? The true Church, the Body of Christ is not divided, neither should it be. “There shall be one fold and one Shepherd.” — John 10:16. Read 1 Cor. 1:10; 12:25; 3:3.
  9. They do not preach the straight word of God, but they preach to please the people, and to satisfy their itching ears. Read 2 Tim. 4:3.
  10. They are yoked together with unbelievers. Be not unequally yoked together with unbelievers. — 2 Cor. 6:14.
  11. They love the things of the world, and have the friendship of the world, and the world loves them. Read 1 John 2:15, 16. James 4:4. John 15:19.
  12. They are full of pride. “God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the tumble.” — James 4:6.
  13. Have some other name beside the name of Christ. “There is no other name under Heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.” — Acts 4:12. “Of whom the whole family in earth and heaven are named.” — Eph. 3:15.
  14. They are glad they have so many paying members on their class book. A Christian is to rejoice that his name is written in Heaven. — Luke 10:20. “They that depart from me shall be written in the earth.” — Jer. 17:12. Those that are Christ’s belong to the Church of the Firstborn which are written in Heaven. — Heb. 12:23. All that worship the beast have not their name written in the Lamb’s book of life. — Rev. 13:8.
  15. They reject Christ as their head, and in stead place men to be head over what they call the Church. Christ is the head of His Church, Read Col. 1:18, 19. Eph. 5:23; 1:22; 4:15.
  16. They dishonor God by their festivals, socials and fairs. We find in the Word that revelings and banquetings do not belong to a Christian life. — 1 Peter 4:3. Make not my Father’s house a house of merchandise. — Jno. 2:16. Eat at home.

1 Cor. 11:34.

— 17. Have not the signs following. “And these signs shall follow them that believe. — Mark 16:17. Jno. 14:12; 7:38.

  1. Because their preachers pretend that they can open the doors of the Church and take in members. We enter not the Church through any door that man can open or close; but through Christ; for He says: “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved. — Jno. 10:9. Rev. 3:8.
  2. Have some other creed beside the Word of God. Christ says, “Howbeit, in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.” — Mark 7:7-9.
  3. They have their affections set on things of this world, and are trying to build up their sect which is of this world. “Set your affection on things above, not on things of this world. — Col. 3:2.
  4. Because it is of men and not of God. I praise God that I have the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name. Praise God forever! Amen!

THE CHURCH.

—:o:—

THE Church of God is identified with the Body of Jesus Christ; and it is the complete Body composed of all who are saved by His blood. Praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the Church daily such as should be saved. — Acts 2:47.

(Greek text) “Praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord daily added those being saved to the congregation.” Hence the Church is the congregation of God’s people. Church is derived from the Greek word (Ekklesia) and means congregation. German is (Gaminda) which is the same as congregation. When we speak of God’s Church, we exclude all other anti-christ ecclesiastical sects.

Jesus Christ’s Church is a complete Body organized by Himself, and there can be no improvements on Christ’s work.

And I say unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. — Malt 16:18.

Blind Catholics misconstrue that Scripture; and say that Christ built His Church on Peter to the exclusion of the other Apostles, not co. Peter simply means a rock, and what he said of Peter was simply because he was one of the foundation stones in God’s Church, and his name a Rock.

But every one of the Apostles was equally a foundation stone in this great building (God’s Church.) We who are saved are stones in this holy temple.

Ye also, as live stones, are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. — 1 Pet. 2:5.

All of the stones which constitute this temple are transparent, and Christ reflects His own image in every one of them.

And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him. — Col. 3:10.

That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. — Eph. 4:22-24. Hence God reflects His own righteousness and holiness through His children. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. — 2 Cor. 3:18.

God, the salvation of our souls, sets every member into the Body as it pleases Him. Then He controls them to suit Himself. Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shall make me full of joy with thy countenance. — Acts 2:28.

So you see God has purchased His own Church, not Luther, Calvin, Wesley, B. T. Roberts, or any other finite man. Men get up plenty of sects, but no one is able to found THE Church but Jesus Christ.

Sects of course have to be worked up by some man; for God never sent them down from Heaven, as He did His Church, the Heavenly Jerusalem.

So you see there is a vast difference between God’s Church and sects. Namely, God’s Church came down from Heaven, And I John saw the holy City, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of Heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of Heaven saving, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God. — Rev. 21:2, 3. But all sects emanated from erring mortal men, and are pitfalls to every one that joins them. God help every one, that you seek those things which came down from above, and not things which are on the earth. If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. — Col. 3:1, 2.

Every sect instigator was authorized, and prompted by the devil to do such work, as God’s Word says, “There should be no schisms (sects) in the Body.” God never endorsed such works, He works in harmony with His Word. The Spirit of God will never lead any one contrary to His Word. The Bible is an inspired book, and it must be inturpreted by the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God and His Word never conflicts. If you have a spirit that opposes the Word, it is of the devil. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God – Eph. 6:17. You see the Word and the Spirit are closely blended together, and are always in harmony. Just as soon as you get out of the Word of God, you move on the devil’s territory, and your heart is open to evil communications, and you get under the delusions of the devil, and under the guise of an angel of light. Our only realm of safety is within the precious Word of God. For there are three that hear record in Heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. — 1 John 5:7, 8. The Spirit of God is one with His Word, and His Word is the safe rule by which to try the spirits.

So all sect work is out of line with the Word, and is generally run by carnal men who have not salvation. But Christ’s Church is run and controled by the Spirit of the living God; for it is God who worketh all things in all.

For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the Church: and He is the Savior of the Body. Therefore as the Church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the Church, and gave himself for it; that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word, that He might present it to himself a glorious Church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish – Eph. 5:23-27.

And He is the head of the Body, the Church: who is the beginning, the Firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ, in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the Church. — Col. 1:18, 24.

Hence the Body of Christ is the Church and the Church is His Body. To the general assembly and Church of the Firstborn which are written in Heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect. — Heb. 12:23.

John to the seven Churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven spirits which are before his thrown. Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and last and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven Churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyria, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyratira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea. — Rev. 1:4, 11.

He writes to seven different cities, in order to address seven Churches or “congregations.” Now days you can write to seven different sects in one very small town. Hence you see sect denominations and God’s Church do not correspond.

Does not His Church correspond with His Word? Certainly it does, but sects never can be harmonized with His Word. Therefore God speaks from Heaven, and commands you imperatively to renounce all sectism, and stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. And you are not safe until you obey that voice.

And I heard another voice from Heaven, saying, Come out of her my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have readied unto Heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities. Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double. — Rev. 18:4-6.

What ever you do, in the name of Jesus, obey God and His Word.

Are you all the time obeying
Jesus and His precious Word?
Lying at His feet and praying,
Savior, let thy voice be heard.

Take His Word thy sheild and buckler,
And resolve you will be true
To the blessed Lord forever,
By His blood He’ll bring you through.

Christ will lead you by His Spirit
Into all His word divine,
If you exclude all, and obey it,
You will reach that heavenly clime.

Do not hesitate a moment
To believe with all your heart;
Now in Christ you have attonement,
Never, never from Him part.

HEWS FROM THE FIELD.

—:o:—

NEWS PROM DENVER.

—:o:—

Wayland Neb, Feb. 18.

AFTER a stay of ten weeks we closed our labors in that City Tuesday night Feb. 14. The work was still moving on finely. Two souls saved in our last meeting. When we went to Denver, there were about four souls there in the clear evening light, now there are forty. Last Sabbath there were fifteen buried with Christ in baptism. They all received the blessing of the Lord in their souls, nearly all coming up out of the water praising God. It was a glorious scene, witnessed, we suppose, by about two thousand people. The evening following we had a very sacred communion service. Over thirty saints of Denver took part in the precious ordinances of washing one anothers feet; and the Lord’s supper. We had said but little upon these duties before that evening, but trusted God to lead His children into all His commandments. We read John 13, and was blessed of God in “teaching them to observe all things whatsoever He hath commanded us.” Though self deceived enemies of the truth had done what they could to cast these things under the shades of unbelief and contempt, we had no fears but that Christ’s disciples would obey the voice of their Shepherd, and Savior. Thank God! All were ready to gird themselves with the towel, and obey the command and example of Christ. Oh what heavenly love filled all hearts, and what sacred joy, proving the words of Christ true, “If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.” On the night of our last meeting with the Church of God in Denver; the Lord having shown us who He had chosen elders and deacons, Bro’s C. Hill and Andrew Gordon were ordained elders by laying on of hands. Bro. James Pollock deacon, sister Mary Lubers deaconess. God has given some the gift of healing, and we expect glorious fruits of the Church here. This city is a health resort for people all over the world. Many are greatly helped by the climate, some cured, while hundreds come here to die. Scarcely an hour in the day passes without some one is hauled out to Riverside Cemetry. Our prayer to God is that the healing faith may be mightily developed, that the suffering may find perfect healing from the Lord, and carry the fame of His name to the ends of the earth. We found but very little healing faith in the city, hence as it was with Christ, among His own kindred, “He could not do many mighty works.” A few received the anointing, some healed, others partially. One sister very bad with consumption, consecrated all to the Lord, and received anointing for healing. We received the witness that God did the work. She also felt the power of God in her body. She joined with us in singing which she had not been able to do before, which caused her mother and brother to weep for joy. And before we left, they both consecrated themselves to the Lord, and received the peace of the Lord in their hearts. The sister has had a big fight of faith for her healing; but is holding firmly to the faithful promise. She felt strange painful operations in her lungs, which no doubt was the Lord’s healing work. Her left lung which was very bad, has become apparently sound, and the operation is going on in the right one. Her faith did not I claim instantaneous healing, so the Lord is doing according to her faith. We expect to hear of her perfect cure. Another woman was cured of paralysis in answer to prayer.

This glorious work in Denver, cost, for traveling expenses from Neb. there, and hall rent, $350. Of that amount $200 was furnished of the Lord through the daily labors of one poor brother (rich in faith.) This man pays ten dollars per month for house rent, and supports his family, and yet is able to do this work for the Lord. He has no trade or occupation, nor regular place of labor. Neither does he seek or ask for work, but the Lord finds all he can do, and puts it into the hearts of men to often give him more than he asks. Simply because he has consecrated his gain unto the Lord. We doubt not that with most saints, even blest with good farms, if an effort to save perishing souls were to cost half, that amount they would think it impractical. God help His people to love souls more, and mammon less. In fact to love, or seek after riches as an end is idolatry. To seek it as a means of helping to spread God’s holy truth, is accepted of the Lord. The meeting closed, or rather our labors in that place, with all debts paid, and $24 in the Lord’s treasure.

Having labored every night for about a month, we announced no meeting for Monday night. But some of the dear saints could not forbear coming to visit us. One family bringing with them a sister that lived in the same house with them, whom the Lord had powerfully convicted that day, gloriously converted. Though she had met with cruel treatment after her conversion, for Christ’s sake, she was bold, determined and joyful in the Lord. We rejoiced together for her salvation and had a heavenly little meeting. Tuesday night, our farewell, the hall was nearly filled. We did not leave the sacred place until after twelve o’clock, and many of the beloved saints met us the next morning at the depot, where, amidst the astonished throng, who had never seen it after that manner, we took our final affectionate farewell, and holy greeting. Tears of parting flowed freely, and all expressed their thanks to God for the pure light, and holy freedom brought to their souls, by the Word of God, and the blessed Comforter. Praise God! The Apostolic salvation and “the faith once delivered to the saints,” brings the love and deep sympathy that was manifest in the primitive saints. This heavenly fellowship is entirely unknown in babylon and sect mixed holiness. God bless and mightily use His Church in Denver. The Lord reward dear Bro. and sister Pollock, whose house was our welcome home. Let all saints pray for the work in Denver. The Lord has brought us safely back to Neb. To-day we begin work at Wayland Polk Co. Neb. Pray for us.

—:o:—

Churubusco, Ind.

Dear Trumpet readers: — Praise God from whom all blessings flow. February 11th we commenced a meeting in Columbia City in the name of the Lord and continued over Sabbath. We felt before the meeting that there would have to be some pruning done. Saturday evening we read John 17, and the Lord blessed in preaching and hearing. Three souls consecrated first meeting, one sanctified gloriously. On Sabbath we preached from 2 Cor. 7:1. Some took exceptions and tried to justify themselves in their filthiness of using tobacco by misapplying Scripture, which caused some of the saints to droop, but we bade them look up and soon a mighty flood of glory burst upon us, and dear Bro. Da David-Ramsey shouted the victory over his tobacco, then followed a general shout among the saints. Among our happy number was dear Bro. H. R. Jeffrey from Marion Ind whom the Lord blessed with the Spirit of Song. Sabbath evening we preached again on the rise and fall of sectism and again the mighty power of our God came upon all the saints, and sinners felt conviction, some wept while others were saved. The room was crowded full of people and we were told that there

were many standing in the street quietly listening to the Heavenly songs and shouts of victory. After a hearty farewell greeting it was with reluctance that the saints separated, for each one was so filled with the mighty love of our God. March 4th, the Lord willing we will meet again at the same place at 10 a. m. We ask all the saints to pray that the dear Lord may again be with us in mighty power to save in this wicked Sodom, and that some of God’s ministers come over and help us. God bless all the saints every where.

Your brother saved through the atoning blood. Praise the Lord!

Dear Brethren in Christ: — May the Lord bless all the dear saints of God every where, and multiply His love and peace unto you. Meeting closed at the Centennial school-house, six miles South-west of Ceder Vale, with a glorious victory on the Lord’s side; about 45 converted and a few sanctified, and many seeking. Many received light on the Scriptures, and renounced the evils of sectism. Baptized 11, and move to follow soon. The Baptists greatly opposed the work, and tried to break up the meeting, but defeated themselves every time. Praise the Lord! the work did not stop. Many precious souls were brought out into the true light of the Gospel, and saved from the low depths of sin. They were weighed down with the burden of their sins; but found sweet relief through Jesus’ blood. We have a call to a number of places to preach the blessed Word: are expected at Otto soon. Pray for us. Your sanctified Bro.

Beaver Dam, Ind.

To the GOSPEL TRUMPET family and the Saints everywhere Greeting: — God bless you all for Jesus’ sake. Amen!

We are saved, sanctified and kept in a state of health as well as a state of salvation. Praise God for His wonderful blessings to us. We left Silver Lake Ind. the evening of the 10th of Jan. 1888 and commenced services at Yellow Lake Bethel, near or in the neighborhood of. Bro. F. Bear’s. The evening services were well attended at this place and many convicted but on account of the persecutions through which they would have to pass they would not yield to be saved of the Lord. There were from fifteen to twenty consecrations during the meeting. Soon after we commenced meeting at this place, we were sent for to pray for a sick man, Bro. David Secor’s brother whom the doctor pronounced fatally ill with brain fever; and we were informed by the sick man’s friends that the doctor had pronounced him out of reach of human skill, stating that the patient was blind, deaf and had not his right mind. Well he did seem to be in that condition as far as we were able to judge but that was nothing to the Lord. Read Luke 1:37; 18:27. Mark 9:23; 11:24. Hence the saints took hold on the promises of the Lord and the good Lord restored the poor man to his former health in a few days; and the best of all after he was restored, he sought the Lord and obtained salvation. After the Lord healed this man the doctor tried to detract from the Lord’s glory by acknowledging that he was mistaken in the condition of the sick and that there was not much the matter with him. Now the poor doctor would have better stood to his first declaration of the case than to acknowledge his ignorance of the case. Well the people will be careful how they send for doctors who have made such mistakes. Glory to God the man was healed and is now saved by the power of God and to Him be all the glory. Amen!

Yours and Christ’s, under the blood of cleansing.

Dear Brethren in Christ and readers of the TRUMPET: — I feel directed by the Spirit of God once more to report through the Trumpet what the Lord has been doing through us. After the Melrose meeting during which a few souls were saved, Bro. Henry Key and I separated and both returned to our homes to rest awhile. I had not been at my home in Darke Co. Ohio many days when I began to feel that it was the will of the Lord for me to attend meeting somewhere, and hearing that a meeting had been began near Portland,

Jay Co. Ind. I felt led to go and join them in the work and so I did. I remained with them a few days, during which we were blessed, but no souls were saved; and then returned to my home again. A few days after this I went to Deerfield Ind. where I spent nearly all of my time with the Brethren until Jan. 27. When, leaving my wife at her home, I took train for Payne Ohio. Upon arriving at the above named place I found a call there for me to go about four miles west, of Antwerp and hold a meeting. We found the Church at that place in a good working condition, hence the Lord met with us in mighty power, and it was not long before souls were convinced of all and judged of all. 1 Cor. 14:24. And began to fall upon their knees and cry to God for mercy. After tarrying at that place eleven days, holding meeting every night in the name of King Jesus, also a few day meetings were held with good success to the cause of Christ, during which time there were forty-one consecrations to God; some for pardon and some for sanctification. Oh praise the Lord! how it fills my soul with glory to see poor sinners come to Christ and be saved. Jesus says: “I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in Heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more Hum over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.” — Luke 15:7. And again: “Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repentelh.” — ver. 10. These texts teach us that the saints in Heaven rejoice when sinners come to God. And if the saints in Heaven rejoice, why not the saints on earth? Hallelujah to God! we do rejoice, giving God all the glory, when we see poor souls rescued from the clutches of the devil. Among those who were delivered from all bands of sin during this meeting was dear sister Snyder who was previously connected with the U. B. sect: but glory to God! she frankly confessed her faults and earnestly renounced the evils of sectism, and claimed the blessing of sanctification by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. At the close of this meeting two souls were buried with Christ in baptism. From there we came to Bro. John Moore’s where we are now holding meeting in the name of the Lord. Our prayer is that God will save many souls at this place. Brethren pray for me that God may continually open unto me a door of utterance to speak the mysteries of Christ, for which I am called.

Your brother under the blood of Jesus.

Kittanning, Pa.

Dear readers of the TRUMPET: — Grace and peace be multiplied unto all the dear saints scattered abroad. We are still in the field and have been over four months, and now in the ninth meeting. The Lord has been with us in glorious power in healing, converting and sanctifying souls. It has been as the garden of Eden and behind a desolate wilderness (a burnt over mountain.) At this place we are holding a meeting in a Baptist meeting house which the sect has left desolate for seven years. The people here have shown us no little kindness and the Lord is rewarding them with salvation. The Lord has done a glorious work in several places in this country, and has favored us with a house to hold meeting in all except Kittanning. It is wonderful how hundreds of people come night after night. One saved recently, over seventy years old, who had never made any profession. Three were buried with Christ in baptism. Six at the altar yesterday. Pray for us dear saints and the work in Pa. We have a call from Jefferson Co. from Bro. Isaac Snyder, they have a good meeting house and are not afraid of the Gospel. Pray that the Lord will send forth laborers in the harvest field for truly the harvest is great but the laborers are few. Your humble sanctified Brother.

Lee Mich,

Dear Brethren: — My testimony is that am fully saved and healed; and I feel led to testify through the Trumpet of my healing, because I do love to glorify God; and to tell what He does for oven me. I never can tell what God has done for me because He has done so much that I can not tell it all. But O praise God! I can say He has healed me, and saved me, and lifted me far above this world’s commotion, “and on the solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand”. O praise God for salvation! that saves me and keeps me. O praise God for the keeping power. From your sanctified sister down low at Jesus feet.

Dear Saints: — I do praise God for full and free salvation he has wrought in my soul. I feel like shooting praises continually. Oh I do praise him so much for His blessed healing power, and that he has healed my children from a severe fit of sickness. Oh glory and praise be to His holy name! As I was reading my TRUMPET this morning and saw the note from Brother Michels in regard to this debt on the TRUMPET OFFICE, I felt impressed by the Holy Spirit to write a few lines on the subject, for I feel that if we all make an effort there can be a good amount raised toward lifting the debt. Now let every one of us ask God with an honest heart how much we can give, and when He makes it known to us let us give freely, for I feel it will be pleasing in the sight of the Lord, and that He will reward us accordingly. From your Bro. saved, sanctified and kept by the power of God each day.

—:o:—

Dear Brethren: — I praise the Lord this morning for salvation that saves to the uttermost, from all sin and filthiness of the flesh; and for complete victory over the devil through our Lord Jesus Christ. I feel led of the Lord to write my experience with the prayer that it may be the means of helping some one else into the clear and beautiful evening light. Early in the year of ’87 I became convicted of my sins, for at that time I was deeper in iniquity than I ever had been before, and felt the Spirit of God constantly striving with me. I had led a very wild and sinful life for the past six years. Continual drinking, gambling, and excessive use of tobacco bad brought me to a bodily wreck and I often thought that death would be a relief to my sufferings. One day I heard that the Salvation Army had arrived in this City and was causing quite a commotion, so I concluded that I would go and hear them for myself. I went and made a great deal of fun of them at first; but after about three weeks I concluded that they had more of the Spirit of God than any people I had at that time met: and I determined to forsake sin and turn to God which I did on the firsts day of April 1887, and a few days later received the witness that it was well with my soul. About two weeks later came the hardest struggle of my life, that was the giving up of tobacco, to which I was a slave. I had time after time tried to quite using it in my. own strength; but failed every time. But one morning I determined by the help of God that I would quit using it if it killed me, and for two days I suffered no one knows how much only those who have passed through the same ordeal. The third morning I got down before God and prayed for Him to take away the very desire of it, and I praise His blessed name he did, and so another of the many lords that had dominion over me was destroyed. I began to read my Bible and soon saw by the direction of the Holy Ghost that the Army did not come up to the Word of God, and I soon began to see the works of the devil manifested in a great many different ways; such as putting aside water baptism, the Lord’s supper, charging admission at the door, selling their War Cry’s on Sunday, preaching against the wearing of gold, and wearing it themselves. And the Lord put it on me to rebuke them for their short comings; but of course they would not listen to me. So the Lord showed me that I should not be a partaker of their sins, and I left them and the Lord wonderfully blessed me for some time. But I was sorely tried in regard to work, and did not understand why I could get no work, and as the old man was still in me I would get mad, and think that the Lord was not acting fairly with me, and began to get in darkness by doubting God. And then satan himself transformed into an angel of light came around and told me I had done wrong to come out of the Army, and if they did not live up to the whole truth of the Bible that God was too good to punish them, and that if God could overlook these things, surely a weak worm of the dust like myself could do the same; and so led of the devil, I went back into babylon, and tried to get back in the same experience I had before: but I could not. Up to that time I had never felt led to put on any of the marks of the beast; but satan (the fathers of liars) told me if I would put on a bed jacket I could get back into the same experience, that I had once enjoyed, and so I put on the mark of the beast; I wore it a few times but soon got disgusted with it and took it off. Was getting farther and farther away from the Lord into Egyptian darkness. My next step was to get farther into babylon by joining myself to the Young Mens Christian Association; a mixture of professors and sinners- Any one of good moral character can be an associate member, but to be an active member you are required to be a member of some sect organization, and they refused me an active member because I did not belong to some sect, and yet they acknowledged me as a child of God. I soon became a mere formalist. But I had again to come out of the army, as I saw that my being one of them was not of the Lord. And I began to have desires in my heart to return to the world, and its pleasures; would often be sorely tempted by the devil to use tobacco again, and at times would yield and then go to the Lord for forgiveness; and 1 was soon one of those who had to ask the Lord to forgive my sins every night; and this was the condition I was in when the Lord sent Bro. D S Warner here to preach the Gospel. And I heard the word of God preached by the Holy Ghost through the lips of man; and I saw that he was preaching bible salvation, just what the Lord had shown me some time before but it was made much plainer to my mind.

And I determined after a short time to get back to the Lord and get the fullness, which I did. Praise His name forever! I sought again for the pardon of my sins, and God being very merciful and willing to save all those who are willing to forsake sin, and to leave all and follow Him, restored to me the joy of His salvation.

I then presented my body a living sacrifice holy acceptable unto God and the very God of peace sanctified me wholly.

Then the Lord showed me I had to come out of the Young Men’s Christian Asociation as His word strictly forbid being yoked together with unbelievers, as is found in 2nd Cor. 6:14; I did so, and the devil showed himself very plainly, in that clan, and as soon as I commenced to talk full salvation they got mad and the devil got complete victory over the head man of the association, but the Lord kept me through it all by His mighty power. Praise His name! Full salvation is a glorious thing to have, because you have nothing to trouble you; dead to sin and the carnal mind destroyed, you are alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. I also have been healed by the mighty power of God from Rheumatism and other diseases, and I want to give him all the glory for His mercy to me. I do praise God for a Bible salvation that saves from all sin and keeps us every moment of our life unspotted from the works of the devil Your brother saved, sanctified and kept by the power of God, ready to be revealed in the last day.

Dear Brethren: — I feel led to write my testimony. The Lord is keeping me saved day by day. Not by works of righteousness that I have done; but by His mercy hath He saved me by the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Ghost. O praise God for His goodness to the children of men.

We are having glorious meetings here. God is pouring out His Spirit upon the church at this place; and giving us complete victory over all the powers of darkness by removing some of the prejudice from the people, and bringing souls unto Himself. Glory to His name forever!

We hold meeting three and four times a week, and in the last two weeks there has been 12 added to the church. Oh how we rejoice in our souls to know that the work of salvation is going on. Praise God forever and ever.

Dear saints of God let us stand fast in the liberty where with Christ has made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. There are other souls here that are convicted. Pray with us that they may yield to Jesus, and be saved from all sin, and sanctified wholly to God, that they may be able to stand all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

Dear saints of God I request your prayers in the healing of our daughter; she is 11 years old and has spasms. The Lord saved her soul a few weeks ago, and she has been better since that time. My wife and I have taken the Lord for our physician. We know that the Lord has healed our bodies; and we know He can heal her. Pray for us that our faith fail not. O pray earnestly that she may be healed; we ask it for the glory of God; and in Jesus name.

Oh how I feel the mighty saving power of God in my soul just now. Praise God it is sweet to rest complete in Jesus. Glory to His name forever! From your Bro. saved, sanctified and kept by the mighty power of God, ready to be revealed in the last time. May God bless all the saints of God everywhere, and especially the Trumpet family in sending forth the glorious Gospel of Christ. May it go forth as fire to destroy sin on every point. Your Bro. saved in Jesus.

St James, Mo.

Dear Brethren: — Grace, mercy and peace be multiplied unto you from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ. We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers. Now our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and God even our Father, who hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work. Amen!

I do praise God for His wonderful power to usward who believe, and this blessed evening light, and this wonderful salvation that is brought us by the Revelation of Jesus Christ who makes us all one in Him, whom we love though we see Him not: yet because He lives we shall live also. I can never praise my God enough for the great deliverence He has given me, and not only me, but it makes my heart rejoice to read the many testimonies for Jesus in the TRUMPET, and I am led of the Lord to add my testimony in this way also. They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony, and they loved not their lives to the death. Hallelujah to God and the Lamb for ever and ever! He has brought, me out from darkness and sin into His marvelous light, and from the power of satan to serve the living God whom to know aright is life everlasting. He also raised me from a bed of affliction (complicated diseases of many years standing) to work in His vineyard. And hath delivered me from the terrible band of sectarianism, and from the mark of the beast, to put the seal of the living God in my forehead. O glory! glory!! Hallelujah! Come let us together praise the Lord for his goodness to the children of men! I was pardoned of my sins thirteen years ago and joined the Methodist sect six months after. Lived a sinning and repenting life until five years ago. Having been humbled by hard sickness and afflictions many years, I submitted myself unto God, turned my whole heart to reading the Bible and praying. “Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.” — Jer. 15:16. When brought down to death, and having lain in a trance for some time, I was suddenly aroused to consciousness, called with a voice which sounded like distant thunder. I sprang from the bed healed, perfectly well of all my diseases, sanctified wholly: but did not understand it; for I had never saw a person professing sanctification, nor heard of holiness only what I had read in the bible. I was called to preach the everlasting Gospel to the world; shown many wonderful things in visions. But lost the experience by not going right out to preach; my husband saying a woman was not called to preach. For which I lost my husband, and all I had in this world, but my little child; but blessed be God, a little over two years ago in my suffering and trouble, I was led to go to the bible again, and there learned to consecrate. — Rom. 12:1. I obtained the blessing of entire sanctification again and have been out in the work ever since. Glory be to God and the Lamb forever and ever! All the dear saints pray for me that I may stand true to God; keep clear of all breakers and do my whole duty in every respect. I love to read the Trumpet. Your sister saved and sanctified wholly by the blood of Jesus, and kept by the power of God unto salvation, ready to be revealed at the last day.

Maple Rapids, Mich.

Dearly beloved readers of the Trumpet: The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek. He hath sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound. To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all that mourn. To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty, for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the Spirit heaviness.

Well as we felt led to go out in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we started feeling good in our souls, knowing we were in the hands of the Lord and that it was His will that we should go. We went by the way of North Engle, called on dear Bro. and sister Howe, found them enjoying good health and salvation to the uttermost. Then we came to Bro. Lewis’ in Benton, had a good time, remained over night; and then came on to sister Cogswell’s at Dimondale. There we found they had been praying God to send some one to come and hold meetings. Bless the Lord! we began meeting the next evening. We have been here one week, and there has been four souls gloriously saved, two sanctified wholly. Oh the mighty power of God that has been on us during the meeting. Bless His holy name forever and ever! The saints here have been greatly strengthened and built up. Oh may the dear Lord ever bless their souls and keep them faithful unto His coming. We had desired for some time to meet the dear saints at Williamston. We thought if it would be the Lord’s will we would go and see them on our way home. But the clear Lord who worketh all things after the counsel of His own will ordered it otherwise. As there had been a number of saints from Williamston out to Olivet, and on their way home they sloped here and remained over night; and O what a time of rejoicing. Oh glory to God!

“We’re a happy pilgrim baud
Dwelling in the holy land,
With a shout of joy we upward run:
For we’ve left the wilderness,
And have entered holiness
Through the blood of God’s beloved Son.”

Praise the Lord we are still here, will have meeting this evening the Lord willing, then expect to return home on the morrow if the Lord wills. Your Bro. and sister all the Lord’s, saved and sanctified wholly.

To the dear saints: — I praise God for this evening light, and it does my soul good to speak of this redeeming love. I praise God for sending Bro. Warner and Co. to this place, and the Word was spoken with such power that conviction fell on my soul. Glory to God for ever saving a wicked man like I was! Hallelujah for ever and ever! O glory to God He spoke peace to my soul; but I found there was another work to be done, which was to have Him purge out the old adamic nature Praise God for ever, then He sanctified my soul. I am free from all sects, filled with the fire of God, and I expect to fight the battle of the Lord as long as I am permitted to stay in this world. Glory to God I am standing as a watchman upon this highway of holiness, and I am determined to give the alarm when I see the enemy skulking around to devour the innocent. Glory to God for the light that brought me out of babylon. I am saved and sanctified through and through, washed in the flood of Jesus, and made whiter than snow. I ask of of God’s children to pray for me and my family that we may stand firm for God. Your Bro. kept by the power of God. Amen!

Dear Brethren: — I feel led of the Spirit to speak for Him. I am happy to say that I am still saved and trusting Him fully. I do praise His holy name for keeping me in His love. He has healed my body as well as my soul. O I do love to tell of his wonderful love to me. He fills my soul with joy and peace just now that the world can neither give nor take away. I am able to say that “the Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.” O glory to God in the highest! The devil tempts me sore, but the God I serve is able to keep me. Pray for me that my faith fail me not. Your sister all on the altar, under the blood.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ: — I feel led by the Lord to write to you through the TRUMPET in regard to a blind brother that is dependent on the charity of God’s children. His earthly friends have forsaken him since he came out for the Lord.

Bro. Basore has given him a home for seven mouths, with but little help from the Brethren. He cannot keep him much longer unless he has help, and he will have to go to the county house. He is very destitute of clothing. The afflicted Brother’s name is John White. Dear brothers and sisters, when you read this just ask God to direct you. If you are led to help him, address M. H. Basore, Merrill, Saginaw Co. Mich.

My testimony to-day is, I am saved soul rejoicing in the love of a Savior, that has brought me from darkness into the true light of God. Your sister in Christ.

Dear Brethren: — I bless God for what I feel and enjoy in my soul this morning. Glory lo Jesus forever and ever! This morning finds us on the solid Rock, for all other ground is sinking sand. We have started a prayer meeting in the name of Jesus, and He is with us in mighty power. There are a few honest souls here but we need some fire baptized ministers in this place. My prayer is that God will send some one to preach the straight Word. Now don’t delay, for there are dear souls here. Pray for us that we may stand firm. To the saints scattered abroad greeting. The mercy and peace of God rest upon you forever. Dear Saints, the Lord is working, the fire is burning, souls are saved and sanctified. Glory to God! The first night after our dear Bro. Warner and the other dear Saints had left us, we all felt sorrowfully and it was a quiet meeting. But the second night the dear Lord put fire in the Word, and crowded the meeting house with the bright conversion and sanctification. All glory to our God, I am glad that the Lord established His Church here in Denver, and settled it in the Word. Dear saints pray for the cork here. Yours in Jesus.

Dear Brethren: — Grace, mercy and peace from God be multiplied unto you. I feel led to tell what the Lord done for me; He has saved my soul from all sin. But the Lord chasteneth my body. I have been sick for the last seven months. I recovered to some extent, but I have this hope that the Lord will heal me sound and well. I wish you would all pray for me. For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth. If we endure chastening, God dealeth with us as sons; for what son is he whom the Father chasteneth not. But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards and not sons.

Last Christmas day, thirteen of the beloved saints obeyed our Lord and Savior in the solemn ordinances of feet washing and the Lord’s supper in our house. I am so thankful to the Lord that I was one of them. If we know these things, happy are we if we do them. Our dear brother E. Lewis was the Lord’s faithful servant in administering to the saints. Your Bro. in the Lord.

Died: — Jan. 18th 1888 at Wood Lake shore in Marshall Co. Ind., Joseph Right, aged 68 years. Bro. Right enjoyed full salvation. A short time before his departure, he called some of the saints to his bedside and said all was well with him, and asked us to pray for some of his children who are strangers to the throne of grace. He passed away in sweet peace and now is at rest in that heavenly land.

THE WORDS OF THE LORD.

—:o:—

TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and found wanting. — Dan. 5:27. Now the question is; what is this balance? The Word of God. For the words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. — Psa. 12:6.

Now the reason that the king Belshazzar was found wanting, was this; he did not obey the word of the Lord. Therefore this writing was sent forth from God, so that the king trembled and his knees smote one against the other. So the king called all the wise men of Babylon – but there was none that could read the writing of God upon the wall, nor show the interpretation thereof. And the reason of this was, that God’s writing was Spiritual, and these carnal men could not understand it, and in this is fulfilled what Paul says, that the carnal mind is enmity against God, for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. — Rom. 8:7.

The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: Neither can he know them because they are Spiritually discerned. — 1 Cor. 2:14. But he that is Spiritual judgeth all things, — Vr. 15. So the king called for a Spiritual man named Daniel, and he read the writing and showed the king the interpretation thereof. And in that night the king of the Chaldeans was slain. — Daniel 5:30.

And for this cause there are thousands of professors in these last days weighed in God’s Word and found wanting, and therefore they are killed spiritually. Well, says one, can a man be deceived? Yes. “There is it way which seemeth right unto a man; but the end thereof are the ways of death.” — Prov. 14:12; 16:25. The Gospel is hid to them that are lost. Who is the cause of it? The god of this world. — 2 Cor. 4:3, 4. Well how does he do it? Why she devil is transformed into an angel of light, and he has ministers out preaching in these last days as the ministers of Got whose end will be like unto that of sing Belshazzar; — 2 Cor. 11:14, 15.

What will a man give in exchange for his soul? Will he wrest the holy Scriptures to bring them to his notions? Will he disannul a part of the Word of God, and cast away the divine ordinances of the Son of God, because it is apt to make a man holy and humble? Let us hear the words of Jesus to professors. “Why call ye me Lord, Lord, and do not the things that I say unto you? — Luke 6:46. He that rejecteth, and receiveth not my words hath one that judgeth him: the words that I have spoken will judge him at the last day. — Jno. 12:48. For my words are spirit, and they are life, saith the Lord. — Jno. 6:63. Now if His words are spirit and life can we have eternal life and not obey His Word? Paul says, unto the pure all things are pure. — Titus 1:15. But how is it with so many professors to-day, whom Paul calls unbelieving, there is nothing pure, for even their mind and conscience are defiled: they profess that they know God, but in works they deny Him, and the same class of professors are crying against infidels, and asking them to come to the Lord. They had better get to the Lord themselves. For we do not read any Scripture that says we can be a half way Christian, or a half- brother in Christ. Neither do we find that a man can be an infidel and a Christian at the same time. O praise God for a salvation that takes the whole Word of God.

Now this I say, that an infidel that professes is worse than one that does not profess, for every one that denies a part of the Word of God are leading more souls to perdition than professed infidels O! it is a sad thought, the blind leading the blind, and both fall into the ditch.

The so called Friends deny part of God’s holy Word, and they claim that they took their name out of the holy Scripture. Now let us weigh them in God’s balance. “Ye are my friends if ye do whatsoever I command you. — Jno. 15:14. And if ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them. — Jno. 13:17.

Now Abraham believed God and it was imputed to him for righteousness, and he was called the friend of God, And by works his faith was made perfect when he offered up his son Isaac. — James 2:21, 23.

Now the first and great commandment is, to love the Lord our God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength. Well what is the love of God? This is the love of God, that we keep His commandments, and His commandments are not grievous. — 1 Jno. 5:3. Jude 21. He says, keep yourselves in the love of God: Now Jesus tells us how to do this. It ye keep my commandments ye shall abide in my love, even as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in His love. — Jno. 15:10. He that hath my commandments and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me. And Jesus said, if a man love me he will keep my words, and we will come and make our abode with him. — Jno. 14:21, 23. And he that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings. — Jno. 14:14. And he that heareth my sayings and doeth them not is like unto a foolish man that built his house on the sand. — Matt. 7:26.

Not the hearers of the law are just before God but the doers. — Rom. 2:13.

Will a man be deceived if he disobey the Word? Jesus says; “be ye doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves, for if a man be a hearer of the Word and not a doer, he is like a man be holding his natural thee in a glass, mid goeth his way and straightway forgeteth what manner of man he was, or loses his salvation. — James 1:22-24.

Now let the Word of God weigh all those that reject the holy commands of God. He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him. — 1 Jno. 2:4.

But whoso keepeth His Word, in him verily is the love of God perfected. — Vr. 5.

Now many claim that Paul taught that the ordinances of Jesus Christ was nailed to the cross. — Col. 2nd chapter. Now the same Paul says: “Now I praise you brethren that ye remember me in all things and keep the ordinances as I delivered them to you. — 1 Cor. 11:2, 23, 24, 25.

Many do not believe in the holy kiss. A very good reason for it, because they are not holy; for sanctification makes us holy, and we are sanctified through the truth, and we purify our souls by obeying the truth. Praise the Lord!

A tree is known by its fruits. It ye abide in me and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified that ye bear much fruit. — Jno. 15:7, 8.

Now this second work of grace, or entire sanctification makes us one in the Lord, and we delight to do the whole will of God. But there are many who are trying to pervert the Gospel of Christ.

O foolish Gentiles, who hath bewitched you that ye should not obey the truth. Are ye so foolish, having begun in the Spirit are ye now made perfect by your own fleshly ways? Gal. 3:1, 3. Now the saints have a right to mark them that cause division, and avoid them. — Rom. 16:17.

How are they marked? They are weighed in God’s Word and found wanting, for whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ hath not God. — And if any come unto you and bring not the doctrine of Christ, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed. — 2 Jno. 9:10.

Now if we receive Christ we must receive the Apostles, for Jesus says: “He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; for I have received a commandment from my Father what I should speak and what I should say, and I know that His commandment is life everlasting. And Peter says, to whom shall we go? for thou hast the words of eternal life. — Matt. 10:40. Jno. 12:49, 50; 6:6, 8.

How can men deny a part of the Word of God when it is all given by inspiration of God, and is profitable — that the man of God might be perfect. — 2 Tim. 3:16, 17. For God and the Son are one. — Jno. 10:30. For ye have one Master even Christ, and all ye are brethren. — Matt. 23:8. For both He that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one, for which cause He is not ashamed to call them brethren. — Heb. 2:11.

I would to God that all the Quaker, and all others that deny part of the Word of God would repent and believe the Gospel. — Mark 3:15, then do like John the Revelator, eat the little book, and it will be in your mouth as sweet as honey, but if ye twist and mash the Word of God in order that you may swallow it, it will be like sugar-coated pills: if you swallow them whole they taste sweet, but if you mash them it will be a very bitter dose, and so it will be with all who disobey God’s Word in the last day. The wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience. — Eph. 5:6.

Yours sanctified, working in the vineyard of the Lord. Praise ye the Lord all ye His saints. Amen!

THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST.

—:o:—

IN these days of deception and delusion when the powers of darkness are combined for the overthrow of the truth as it is in Christ; when many are crying lo here,

and lo there is Christ, when “evil men and seducers are waxing worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.” When so much is being said about the Spirit of Christ, it is well for us to, yea we must know what it is, in order that the very elect may not be deceived. We praise God that there is a sure way by which we may know the false from the true. The Word of God says, “Beloved believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” But some good, honest, sincere souls ask, how am I to try them, how am I to know who is right and who is wrong. 1 John 4:2, 3, says, “Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God. And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God.” That is, Jesus Christ has come into our mortal bodies. Now let us see whether this will bear the straight edge of God’s Word: Jesus says. I am the way, the truth and the life – Jno. 14:6. He that believeth on the Son hath (not will get, but hath) everlasting life. — Jno. 3:36. In him was life and the life was the light of men. — Jno. 1:4. Now let us turn to Eph. 3:17, “That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth and length, and depth and height; and to know the love of Christ which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.” O hallelujah to God, that Jesus may not only come to us occasionly, whispering sweet words of comfort and cheer, but He comes into our hearts and dwells there, and is made manifest in our mortal flesh. – 2 Cor. 4:11. I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. — Gal. 2:20. No, no, it is not the old saul of Tarsus, but a new creation, a new man, and Christ is the great moving power on the inside, working in him to will and to do of his own good pleasure. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God, for it is not subject to the laws of God neither indeed can be. — Rom. 8:7. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit, of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ he is none of His. — Rom. 8:9. Then glory to God! we have the authority to reject all who have not the Spirit of Christ. But says some one, how are we to know the Spirit of Christ: for we see many good people who are kind neighbors, and yet they do not believe in holiness; indeed they say we cannot live without sin, and they profess to have the Spirit of Christ. Well praise the Lord, the “tree is known by its fruits.” 1 Pet. 2:21-24, says, “Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow His steps: who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: who when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” Praise the Lord! no man can serve two masters; so you cannot be following Christ, and at the same time committing sin, for he that committeth sin is of the devil. – 1 Jno. 3:8. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. — 1 Jno. 3:10. In what are the children of God and the children of the devil manifest. In them that commit sin and them that do not. Then in order to have the Spirit of God. We must walk in His steps, and have the same mind that was in Jesus. Yes, praise God, we too must be nailed to the cross and be put to death, that is the old carnal mind is to be slain, (Rom. 6:6) and having passed through that death we can claim Rom. 6:7 as our experience. For he that is dead is freed from sin.” The real Spirit of Christ was perfect submission to the will of the Father. But many seem to think that it was a mere fantastic inexplainable nothingness filled with emotions of (their idea) sweetness and love. Now while the Spirit of Christ manifests the true love and sweetness of Christ, yet it is devoid of that foolish compromising waywardness that would have us recognize all the devils false love with which he has tried to supplant the true. But under all circumstances it seeks to know what the will of the Lord is and then fearlessly obeys it. Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of Him that sent me and to finish his work. – Jno. 4:34. So then we see that the very Spirit or life of Jesus was to do the Father’s will and we must have the same mind which he had. So beloved when there seem to be doubts as to who have the Spirit of Christ, let me say to you, just put the “golden need” which is the Word of God on them and see if they measure to its teachings. If not, be assured it is not the Spirit of Christ but the spirit of error. For whosoever shall DO the will of my Father which is in Heaven, the same is my mother, my sister and my brother. — Matt. 12:50. So beloved when you hear one pleading for sin, set it down that they are not walking in Jesus’ steps, but are sinners. But there is a class of individuals in the world, who say they believe in and profess holiness, and yet deny the ordinances of God’s house. Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John lo be baptized of him. – Matt. 3:13. Just follow Jesus down into the water and he baptized. For I have given you an example that ye should do as I have done unto you. — Jno. 13:15. So then brother don’t just take the lesson of humility in Spirit: but do the same act which Jesus did; wash your brother’s feet in the same spirit of humility, lowliness and love. Our blessed Lord says. If ye know these things happy are ye if ye do them. — Jno. 13:17. O glory to God we know them and have found the Savior’s words true in doing them. Then when ye partake of the bread and wine, the emblems of His precious body and blood. Just remember that He said as oft as ye do this ye do show forth my death till I come. O hallelujah! It is wonderful to be in harmony with Jesus and His Word. And then beloved it is just as much our duty in order to be straight with God; to reject unholy men and women as it is to do the other things that God has commanded. But it must be done in love and for Christ’s sake. May the dear Lord help each one to read and know the Word, and square their life by it and be filled with joy in the Holy Ghost.

MY EXPERIENCE.

—:o:—

I feel led of the Lord to write my experience, and I know it will be to the glory of God This after-noon, Jan. 28th, finds me well and praising God for full salvation.

Four years ago the 13th day of next March the Lord wonderfully healed this body of mine; I was converted then and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost. I was deeply convicted of my sins, but did not know what to do or how to take hold of the Lord. The Methodists kept telling me to look to the Lord, but did not tell or show me how to look to Him, and I was so ignorant myself of knowing what to do, but my faith made me whole both soul and body. Praise the Lord! I had been afflicted three years and two months previous to that time, and many times I had asked God to heal me of different diseases, and had been healed by Him. The morning I was healed I was in such distress I could hardly put one boot, before the other. I thought I would lie down and see if I would not get relief, as put my head on the pillow I said, why not ask the Lord to heal me? be healed me three weeks ago last night of the head-ache. I put out my hand and said, way not ask Him now? At that moment I was standing on my feet looking first at one band then the other, and the words came on my lips, I am converted, O that, great, great burden was gone. I stood there thinking about it, and then sat down to think, and the devil tempted me, saying, “you are not either,” and the thought came that it was the devil, tempting me. I jumped to my feet and says: “get thee behind me satan!” and I was so thankful to God that He showed me it was the devil. It seemed as though I looked him right in the face, and went to thank Him, and my eyes opened, and I had received the Holy Ghost. It just seemed as though I could shake hands with Jesus, that God was in me and I in Him, everything seemed to be praising God. That evening was the Last night of the protracted meeting, and I went, and the people said they knew I was converted by the look on my face.

Well I do praise God, and give Him all the glory. I lived a pure and holy life for six months, then for the want of understanding I took my eyes off of Jesus, and put them on the people. All this time I was trying to understand the one true Church, but having no one to help me, or say anything about sanctification, I supposed every one had to receive all that I did just to be called converted.

Well when I lost my love and my joy I fled to the M. E. sect. (I had called it a class, for some reason or other I could not call it the Church.) The M. E. priest wanted me to join them in full connection at the end of six months, but I could not. He raid my religion would become a wreck; but it did not hurt me; for I was then sweetly saved in Jesus. But in a few weeks after getting my eyes off of Jesus I was ready to join them. I was in the sect just about two years: and one day I found a paper which said something about sanctification as a second work, sanctified by the Holy Ghost. I began to study, and says, “Is not that what I had once?” I do not feel that love and joy now. I began to pray to God to show me in some way where I was and what was the matter with me at the same time. I would go to my unsaved companion and tell him I was not a Christian, Well in two weeks my brother-in-law received his first TRUMPET, and he sent it to me, but I just saw it and that was all. I had to lay it down in a hurry and then it was lost. But I continued to pray to God two weeks longer, and when he received his next TRUMPET he sent it to me, and I thank God it was preserved. I will say right here, by reading a few testimonies I saw right where I stood, what I had once possessed, but lost. I wrote to the Office for the paper one year, and told them how I was healed and saved, but I was not saved now. If I could be reclaimed and obtain that which I had lost how happy I should be. They sent my letter to brother Warner when he was at Lindsey O. and he answered it. O how I praised the Lord even before I opened it. Well the result was, I went down to Lindsey and heard the Word preached in its purity, and received a great blessing Sunday evening which I took for sanctification, supposing I had only fell from sanctification, but I had fallen from justification also. I was in a sinning and repenting state. I sinned in thought and deed; I would exaggerate, and dressed even more extravagantly than before. Well I came home but did not grow in grace very fast, and in about eight months I found out that I was only in a justified state, that all was not on the altar. But praise the Lord there was a way provided for me to go to the Jerry City Camp-meeting, and there I was taught, how to claim lull salvation. O what a clean, pure and free heart Father did give me. I am all on the altar that sanctifies me. Pray for me that I may be filled more and more with the Holy Spirit, for Father has called me to teach. I waited till He told me to go. One week ago Thursday I went to a sister’s house, (she has been in the M. E. sect two years) one with whom I have been laboring. She said she did not feel satisfied with her conversion. God helping me, I not only told her to look to the Lord, but told her how to look to Him, and she looked and she found Him to be a precious Savior before she got up from where she was kneeling. I am laboring with five more three of whom are quite near the kingdom. O pray for us.

I have been healed four times by the Lord. The last time I was healed I had the rheumatism; I was led of the Lord to send to the brethren for an anointed handkerchief. Praise the Lord! I applied it to the affected parts and looked up to God and claimed my healing by faith. I got up and walked, and praised the Lord. My companion then came in. He said “I am a little afraid of your mind, you will go crazy yet. I talked with him a little and the tears ran down his cheeks. He never saw a real Christian before, but he does see the evils of sectism so much now. He often says I am a wonder to him, to hear me talk so straight on the Bible line, I not being an educated woman, and I could not converse on any subject very well before. Father has promised in that my husband will believe as I do some day. I praise and thank Him for the promise.

Pray for us at this place. I am persecuted wonderfully, but the Lord just keeps me so sweetly through it all. The taunts, slurs and persecutions just hit the Rock and dart right by, they do not seem to hit me at all. Ever your sister in the body is Christ, saved, sanctified and kept by power of God.
