Thou art, O God.

—:o:—

Thou art, O God, the life and light
Of all this wondrous world we see;
Its glow by day, its shine by night,
Are reflections caught from Thee.
Where’er we turn Thy glories shine,
And all things fair and bright are Thine.

When day, with farewell beam, delays
Among the opening clouds of even,
And we can almost think we gaze
Through golden vistas into Heaven;
Those hues, that mark the sun’s decline
So soft, so radiant, Lord, are Thine.

When night, with wings of starry gloom,
O’ershadows all the earth and skies,
Like some dark, beautious bird, whose plum
Is sparkling with unnumbered eyes: —
That sacred gloom, those fires divine
So grand, so countless. Lord, are Thine.

When youthful spring around us breathes,
Thy Spirit warms her fragrant sigh;
And every flower the summer wreathes
Is born beneath that kindling eye.
Where’er we turn Thy glories shine,
And all things fair and bright are Thine.

DID CHRIST TEACH FICTION?

—:o:—

THE ungodly Adventist sect has no small trouble to dispose of Christ’s account of the rich man and Lazzarus. In order to propagate their no-soul heathenism, they come right out and charge upon Christ as having taught fiction in the account of Luke 16. The Advent Review of Feb. 5, 1889, says: “In Luke 16, the dead are represented as if they knew something; these cannot be actual, but fictitious events.” Again, “We believe that the representations is true, but the event, (namely Christ’s narative) is fictitious and not real.” Well if the representation is true, how can it be fiction? but the antichrist. writer repeatedly pronuces Christ’s account fictitious. This is nothing less than a satanic accusation thrown into the face of the Son of God. Let us look at one of the chief arguments given to sustain this charge of fiction upon Christ. “In case we believe that the conversation between the rich man anil Abraham really took place, we must also admit the possibility that the wicked, in general, can speak with the righteous; yes, that they can blaspheme and slander, and that they can see each other.” i. e., in paradise. But this conclusion has not a word of truth to rest upon. Nothing is said about the wicked and righteous in general being able to see each other etc. For some wise purpose Cod, simply permitted the light to that selfish worldling. We are told that Stephen “looked up steadfastly unto Heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God.” — Acts 7:55. Now what is here affirmed of Stephen, is no more his individual act than what is recorded of the rich man in Luke 16:23. So the same argument would apply in both cases. Shall we therefore conclude that the narative in Acts 7:55, must either be fiction, or, if real, the righteous in general can look right into heaven from this world. Again we are told, (Numbers 22:27, 28,) that Balaam’s ass “saw the angel of the Lord,” “And she said unto Balaam, ‘what have I done unto thee that thou hast smitten me these three times?’” According to this no-soul-ventist rule of interpretation, we must either conclude that this is mere fiction, or, if a true account, then it would follow that asses in general are able to see angels, and also talk with the voice of man, and rebuke their masters when unjustly whipped. Here is the wisdom of Adventism. But what can be expected of men who are so nearly allied with the lower animal creation as to think they have no soul at all? There is some resemblance between them and Balaam; the dum ass could see spiritual objects better than he.

Dear Saints: — I bless God for a full and free salvation. I am saved and sanctified by the blood of Jesus. My sincere prayer is for the saints to pray that I may keep true to Jesus, and in the straight and narrow path, for the Lord hath said: without holiness no man shall see the Lord. I do thank God for sending His ministers to this place. Pray for me that I may keep filled with the fire and Holy Ghost. Your sister in Christ, saved and sanctified.

WONDERFUL HEALING.

_____

Dear Saints: — I praise God for a free and full salvation. It has been nearly a year since the Lord saved me, and I put my whole trust in Him, and I am still saved to the uttermost. The Lord has been my physician and healed my body of an affliction that no human aid could help. I was so I could not work at times, and could not lift any thing of any consequence. Praise God! I can now lift and work without hurting me.

The fourth day of April I was working in my brother-in-law’s saw mill. I accidentily fell on the saw when in motion, going at the rate of 22 revolutions to the second, and was badly mangled; commencing close to the spine, and running diagonally across my shoulder, cutting off the lower point of blade, and across the arm cutting a deep gash in the arm. As soon as I felt the cutting of the saw in my body, I placed my whole trust in God.

We had just finished up a large log and were edging up the boards. We had sawed in the log three courses of boards, and then had to split it off, so we could turn the log down. It left the bunch of boards together, and where it was split off it had quite a long point. By laying on the headblock this point would not pass over the arbor, so brother Snow wished to place a block under the bunch of boards, but it was too heavy for him to do it alone. So I took the cant-hook to lift it up higher. My first hold slipped, and I came near falling the first time. So I took a new hold, and supposing I had it secure, just as brother Snow got down to place the block my hold slipped again, and threw me sideways against the saw. The saw caught my clothes and drew me in. Before brother Snow could rise up and turn around. I was on my feet again. Brother Jacob Heart who was in the mill at the time, saw me, but neither of us could tell how I ever got away from the saw and got up on my feet so quickly. Only the Lord knows. My first cry was oh, and then commenced praising the Lord. My first cry brought sister Snow and my oldest boy in the mill. My little boy cried as though his heart would break, but I told him the Lord would take care of me. By the time I got to the house all my family were together, lamenting, thinking it would soon be my last. But praise the Lord! it was not His will to take me home yet. Well soon as I got to my bed, then I began to realize the pain, for the numbness had become alive. It was almost unendurable; it seemed I could not endure it any longer, and I began to pray the Lord if it was His will, to take me home. But I was entirely His and He should use me at His will, not mine. Praise His holy name! the pain was instantly removed: Brother Snow stood by my bed side, expecting every moment would be my last; when the pain was gone, I turned to him and said: the pain is gone. Oh how he rejoiced. It gave him more faith in the Lord. Now came the hardest battle. In a few moments the house was full of sinners and professors, and brother Show’s brother and wife was among them, and nothing would do, but they must get the doctor. I told them it would do them no good, for he should never dress the wound, if he did come; for the Lord took away the pain, and He would heal it, if I put my full trust in Him, and the Lord would show the brethren how to dress it. Praise God! To-day it is ail heald up and I can work again. O I do praise His holy name for what He has done for me. His Word says: (James, 5:14;) “is any sick among you, let him call for the elders of the Church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up, and if he have committed sins they shall be forgiven,” praise the Lord! I sent for Bro. William Godding, and by the help of the Lord he, Bro. Taylor. and Bro. Bear, dressed the wound. This accident happened at half past ten in the morning, and was not dressed until half past 5 in the evening, and we all know when a wound goes so long as that it will swell, and be very painful; but praise the Lord! He released me from that pain, so the brethren could go right on and dress it, and it caused me no pain. They sent for the doctor contrary to my wishes, but I told him he should never dross the wound for me, but I would give him the privilege of looking at it, and nothing more. So he looked at it, and said he never saw such a gash on a man before. The people went so far as to try to force the wound dressed by the doctor, but the doctor told Henry Snow, he would not do the work against my will. The sinners and professors mocked me, and laughed at me, and made all sorts of fun of me for not letting the doctor dress the wound. But the Lord gave me complete victory, and made me every whit whole.

Pray for me and my companion, that we may do the whole will of God, and keep at the feet of Jesus, that we may meet around God’s throne, where we can sing His praises forever. Your brother in Christ, saved and sanctified to the uttermost. May God bless all His ministering servants all over the land, is my prayer.

WHOSE FRIENDS ARE WE?

—:o:—

JESUS says ye are my friends if ye do whatsoever I command you — Jno. 15:14. “But I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.” “Know ye not that the friendship of this world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world, is the enemy of God.” — Jas. 4:4. “God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble,” therefore I will humble myself, and make sure my friend, which is Jesus. We can know this by doing His commands. Fatih without works is dead; therefore we prove our love to God, by our obedience to His Word, for whosoever keepeth His Word in him verily is the love of God perfected. What a blessed thing it is to know that we are friends to such a loving Saviour, and to have the love of God perfected in our hearts. It makes us shout for joy, and casts out fear that hath torment. Praise the Lord! What an awful delusion, to see people filled with pride and hypocrisy, yet claiming to love God. When we are made perfect in love; we will prove it by our works, and will show to the world that you have been to Jesus and learned of Him. We often see persons professing Godliness, who lay aside the superfluities of the world, and yet have nothing to give to the cause of Christ, not even able to buy tracts, or feed the poor. In fact, almost or entirely silent with their means in that way, but will probably not hesitate to buy unnecessary things for the unsaved ones of their family who should be under their control. Now this is not the proper use of means which the Lord has provided for us, and is not according to the teaching of His Word. It will not give you that perfect love; and those who practice this deception, will feel a lack in their souls, and cast down when they come in the assembly of the saints, and you need not ask God to advance you, until you take up the slackness in your neglect of duty, and be willing to obey God and follow the leadings of the holy Spirit. If the neglect has been unnoticed, then let us profit by the past. “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.” — Jno. 2:15. All pride is of the world and not in the Church, therefore to countenance pride or superfluity in any form is showing by the Word, that the love of the Father is not in us. — Vr. 16. Let us keep an eye single to the glory of God, and do as we pray. Your brother free in Jesus, sanctified by a second work of grace, instantaneously wrought by the power of God. First He forgave my sins when I came to the Bible plan, which was: — repent, believe, and sin no more; then He sanctified me wholly.

A. J. Fosnight.

UNITY IN THE BODY OF CHRIST.

—:o:—

IT is a beautiful and glorious fact that, “both He that sanctifieth, and they that are sanctified are all of one, for which cause He is not ashamed to call us brethren.” — Heb. 2:11. “And the glory thou hast given me, I have given them, that they may all be one as we are.” — John. 17:22. “As we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.” — Romans, 12:4, 5.

“We are even all baptized by one Spirit into one body, * * * and made to drink into one Spirit.” — 1 Cor. 12:13.

These and other Scriptures show that all the saved of God, have one heart, one spirit one mind, one faith, and one way. This being true, it follows that when a soul has lost salvation, and has gone out from the fellowship of the Church of God where he or she lives. Such are out of fellowship, and have no part nor lot in the Church of God anywhere in Heaven or earth, until fellowship and membership is restored to the same by salvation. This is essentialy the case. For since all true saints are of one heart, mind and Spirit, a person not in fellowship, with the true Spirit of God in one place cannot be anywhere else, for God and His Spirit, are the same every-where. When persons “separate themselves” from the Church, being “sensual having not the Spirit,” and the same are received and tolerated, by the Church at some other place, it shows discord and confusion, and does dishonor to the Lord Jesus the head of the body, making an appearence that Christ is two faced, and double minded. Also when men and women have made it manifest that they are not of us, by going out from among us; and the Church in other places are all in their normal condition, and decern the false spirit in them, and reprove the same, should they come to them seeking sympathy and fellowship, they must see and feel their lost condition, and their return to God will generally be the result. But on the contrary, when such hypocrites go out from God and His saints, and find sympathy and reception in other localities, the same will prop them up, sanction their sins, and cause them to go on therein and be lost in the same. All such sympathy is of the devil, it works confusion in the body of Christ, dishonor to the Head, and damnation of the soul on whom it is bestowed.

When it is the duty of God’s ministers and elders to rebuke crooked men and evil spirits, all the members of the body may not have sufficient light and deserning to see the necessity of the rebuke. But if they have the right spirit they will keep their mouths shut, and their hands oft God’s business. But if any one has a devilish, stuck up, and picking spirit; he will show the same by croaking and faultfinding, and acting the part of a snake doctor to the person whose soul God is trying to save by the Holy Spirit rebukes given. It is true weak members may be templed under such circumstances, but if honest, sincere, and free from evil spirits, they will resist the devil, and draw nigh to God.

Near Fenwick Canada a covetous, unscrupulous hypocrite by the name of Beacon was very earnestly labored with by us and the Church at that place. Brethren with many tears and weeping, entreated him to get down and seek salvation. All of which his stony heart resisted, saying, I can go out from among you,” etc. And so he did. And this man went about the country telling unscrupulous falsehoods, reporting that we had slandered his character and said all manner of evil of him. He even had a babylon sinner write the same lies to us. Since then he does not meet with the Church in this place, but goes elsewhere and meets with the Church, and professes to be a child of God. Knowing that the Churches there have fellowship with us, he confesses to them that we are of God, and elsewhere tells sinners that we are of the devil. Now we say in all love, such wandering stars, for whom is reserved the mists of darkness, should be treated, loved, and labored with as a sinner, wherever they go seeking recognition to prop them up in their wickedness. If you love their soul, give no place to them excepting as a sinner. If you hate their souls and wish them to go on in sin and be lost in hell, prop them up in the works of the devil, and you will accomplish that end.

At Covert, VanBuren Co. Mich, are two deceived instruments of satan, i. e., Wm Kinney and wife, of pernicious spirit. These have basely slandered one of God’s ministers, and wickedly prated against all who have ever preached there. Recently the elder rebuked them in the name of Christ. Since which they stay away, but we are told they go to Bangor and meet with the saints there. But they being “reprobate silver.” at Covert, are no better when convening in Bangor. We labored with these parties about three years ago at Covert, and recently again admonished them there in the assembly of saints, and in their own house, but all to no avail. So the orders of Christ is “let them be unto thee as a heathen man and a publican.” Confirm your love to them in any benefit yon can confer, but do not encourage them to persevere in their ungodly ways by acknowledging them as christians in ally way whatever. Wherever God’s own Church exists, in Covert, Bangor, and every-where else, it is one. So a person out of her fellowship at one point, is equally out at every other point Christ is not divided, and God is not the author of confusion. But He is the “same yesterday, to-day and forever more,” and He is the same in every place on earth. And “as He is: so are we (His saints) in this world.” So unless you perfer babylon confusisn to the divine unity and harmony, never receive in one place what God rejects in another, for the body is one, and the Head of the body changes not, Amen!

Dear Brethren: — I wish to tell what great things the Lord has done for us here in this place. I came here last Aug. to stay a few months with my son and his children. I knew they did not have salnation, and when I attended their religious meetings, I did not wonder. I found no saving power among them. Well I felt to mourn in secret; I prayed to God to send some one to preach the Gospel in its purity. The last of Jan., we heard that some men had come to hold meetings in the school-house. No one seemed to know who they were, or what they preached, I told my son and family that they must all go and hear for themselves, and I remained at home to pray. When my son came home he said they were all right. So the next two evenings I went; and it was clearly made known to me that they were sent in answer to my prayers, and I received their teaching with gladness. The school-house was soon closed against the saints, and my son opened his house, and they held meetings there, and my son and family was gloriously saved, and quite a number of the neighbors found Christ precious to their souls. Praise the Lord! Oh the glory of the Lord was revealed in saving power. I love this Holy Ghost fire; it is burning in my heart just now. Hallelujah to God and the Lamb for this great salvation that saves to the uttermost! I am a member of the M. E. church, (sect) and have been for fifty seven years. But you see I love the saints, I love to worship with them and I sometimes get so mixed up with them, that I feel that I am one with them. Well praise the Lord! The Spirit does cement our hearts together. We have prayer meetings every Thursday evening, and every Sunday at 10:30. Last night we had some of the disciples out to our prayer-meeting. But the dear Lord so filled us with His Spirit, that we rejoiced with exceeding great joy. May God bless and save them with a full salvation. Praise God for the abundance of His grace. God bless you all. Your sister in Christ.

NEW CHURCH TRACT.

—:o:—

WE have just printed a new tract by D. S. Warner, of nearly 40 pages the size of the Sabbath tract. It is carefully written, and very forcibly shows, the Divine origin, foundation, head, door, membership, organization, holiness, and unity of the Church, and the basis of unity. It also distinguishes between the True Church, and all sects. Shows the evil of Schisms, and proves the perfection and practicability of the Church, as founded by Christ, and set forth in the New Testament, without any man-made machinery, creeds, systems and manipulations. It refutes the falsehood that we have to be a sect, and nails every thing down to the Word.

Would to God that we could send it free every where. But it costs paper, ink, mailing expense etc. But we put it down just as cheap as we can, to cover expenses, and what we may give to the poor who cannot pay.

That there is no genera reign of righteousness promised in the Bible, to take place on the earth, neither before, nor after Christ’s coming. No age to come. Camp and Grove Meeting List.

—+0+—

EAST PA. MEETINGS.

IT has finally been concluded to drop the Massachusetts grove meeting for this summer, with the hope the Lord will send some one to labor there this winter. This gives us space to make the East Pa. meetings come after the Red Lion, and Jerry City camp-meetings, and we know the Lord will send some German help. We will ascertain just who, as soon as we can. The time now selected is as follows:

GROVE MEETING

NEAR Dow, Schuylkill Co. Pa., beginning Sept. 6. 1889, and last until about the 11th. From a conversation with Bro. Palmer, we judge he will be at those meetings, unless specially hindered.

A GROVE-MEETING NEAR NEW HAMPSHIRE AUGLAIZE CO. OHIO,

Will be held Sept 5th—11th, 89. Workers, the Lord willing, Bro. and sister Schell. All saints and lovers of truth are invited. For any information address Bro. Isaac Carpenter.

The present prospect is, that Bro. and sister Cole will assist in the Sidney, Newhampshire, and Springfield, Ohio meetings.

CAMP-MEETING AT HEDRICK, IOWA.

SEPTEMBER 4-11, ’89. This place is in Keokuk Co., and is located on the Central Iowa, Burlington & Western, and the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul R. R’s. I believe the brethren expect to have a tabernacle. We desire ministerial help from abroad very much. Who will come? Cannot Bro. Carey or Bro. Achor, or both meet with us there? All saints, and lovers of the truth are earnestly invited.

The proprietors have kindly given the use of their beautiful, little, natural grove or park, which is only five or ten minutes walk from the depot. We expect to get rates on all these roads for all desiring to come to the C. M. and will announce through the TRUMPET as soon as ascertained.

The doctrine of holiness as a distinct second work of grace, we believe has never been preached in this place. We expect to have a tabernacle on the ground if the Lord wills.

The few saints, and friends living near expect to tent on the ground, and will try to provide for all brethren coming from a distance. The town has two good hotels whose charges are reasonable. We will have no stands or huxtering on the grounds, but all needed supplies can be purchased of merchants of the town. Bro. D. S. Warner and Co. expect to be with us. Also we feel that the Lord would be pleased in having Bro. and sister Byers and others of Ill. All persons desiring information, can address Bro. J. W. Abrams, Butler Iowa, or Bro. Arthur Harman, Hayesville, Iowa, or the undersigned.

The Burlington R. R. has granted rates to the Hedrick, Iowa, camp-meeting, and it is hoped that other roads there will also.

O. Z. Lindley.

Mt. Pleasant, Ia.

CAMP-MEETING IN NEBRASKA.

THIS meeting has finally been appointed for September 11-18. And our Co. have arranged to assist in the same. We also invite all other ministerial help that can come; and the church there heartily invite all ministers and saints that can come, and whoever desire to get good and do good. The meeting will be held in Bro. M. Hoffer’s grove, Polk Co., which is several miles north of Gresham, on the Chicago & North Western R. R. They have hopes of getting a tabernacle.

All coming on the Union Pacific R. R. from the west stop at Stromsburg; from the east at Shelby. Please notify Bro. Lewis Fox, at Shelby Neb. Those coming from the west notify Bro. F. M. Berrie Stromsburg, Neb., those coming on the Chicago & North Western, stop at Gresham, Neb., notify Bro. James Willis, Gresham, Neb. All such giving due notice to those brethren will be met at those stations and carried to and from the C. M., free of charge.

Wm. N. Smith.

CAMP-MEETING AT ST. JAMES, MO.

COMMENCING Sept. 21, and continue as long as the Lord wills. The treatment the saints received on the camp several miles from that place two years ago, from a masked mob, has been overruled, to the glory of God, hence there is a great desire for our return. The people will give the Fairground free, which contains a very large seated pavillion, and other buildings convenient for the people to camp. We feel that the moving in the minds of the people there, is of the Lord, and we are led to go. We hope to meet a large concourse of saints at that place. The dear ones we met two years ago from Dent Co. and elsewhere, and others we have never seen in the flesh. Come every body who loves God and His truth, all who know God and all who desire to acquaint yourself with Him: O let this be a glorious feast of heavenly things! We believe it will be a glorious time. Special teaching needed in the camp two years ago, left but little time to bring out the deep things of prophecy and Revelation, which is our special calling to give the people. But with all our teaching and labors, complete salvation is the important object and chief battle cry. We expect the deliverance of a multitude of souls. THE MIST OF BLACKNESS, AND HABITATION OF DEVILS.

—@—

ABOUT the worst case of devil possession we have heard of, is J. W. Wyerick, of Kansas. Getting $40. from saints in Denver, Col. on the false pretense of an evangelist. Which he doubtless used to publish his snakey mess of lies, so base, and rediculous that a man of good sense, even possessed with devils, would be ashamed of. One of his devil inspired witnesses, states that we bought our press of a man by the name of Rice, price $1000, and only paid $100. Another said we bought of Cincinnati Type Foundry, on much different, terms. One Fitness, Carpenter, makes one J. C. F. a notorious liar and scoundrel, and the same sheet puts the same J. C. up to witness against us. All such green confused out-oozings of the devil, do not disturb us, and are too vile and self contradictory to need denial.

Now we have just received a communication from Hayesville, Iowa, signed by six witnesses, who all affirm that this foaming beast came there July 2Sth, and introduced himself as J. West, a holiness evangelist, and went by that name until Aug. the 10, when his true name was discovered. And then he began to foam and deny that he had called himself West. He also told many falsehoods about himself, his family, and his character. There are evidently too many devils in him to pass for an hour, among the saints, undetected, yet we announce this so that if the swarthy rascal should appear under some fictitious name elsewhere, you may know and judge him.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

—:o:—

Butterfield, Mo. July, 17, ’89.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — To the saints and faithful in Christ Jesus. This morning I feel it would glorify God for me to write of the wonderful dealings of God to me. For so many souls are dishonoring God, by not testifying every opportunity they get, that there is power in Jesus’ blood to cleanse from all sin. “Ye are my witnesses,” saith the Lord. If we fail to testify to what God has done for our souls, we thereby lose ground, and the devil gets a victory over us, that will be hard for us to win again. The martyrs overcame by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony. I am praising God to-day that I have the “go tell it” kind of salvation. I am a soldier of the cross, a follower of the Lamb. I am walking in the beautiful light of God, and know that I have fellowship with the children of the Most High. I can say this morning with the poet: “Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, just to take Him at His word,” fully realizing just now that I have Christ dwelling within my soul, the hope of glory. Sister Alice Gruber and myself arrived here this morning, will meet with the saints to-night, and then go on our way to Arkansas, where we expect, the Lord willing, to hold a meeting below Eureka Springs. The Marionville camp-meeting closed last Sunday night with victory on the Lord’s side. Several who had once known the Saviour and had wandered away, returned to Father’s House. There had been so much crooked living among the professors of holiness, and some had stepped out of the narrow way and were giving heed lo strange doctrines and devices of the enemy. But truly God swept away the refuge of lies and overthrew the hiding places of satan. From the C. M. we came to sister Boyds, and began meeting at the Pleasant Hill school-house the next night, one dear Bro. seeking holiness and others. under deep conviction. Bro. Jimmie Montgomery started home yesterday to rest a few days, but will soon join us in the battle. We left Bro. and sister Elkins, and sister Boyd in the midst of the grand battle, at Pleasant Hill alone. O beloved I find the way grows brighter

Page 3

and I love this way and all it means. “This war is all my soul’s delight, I love the thickest of the light.” I am determined that the rest of my days, shall be spent in the service of my king. I do not get to read the Trumpet very often, yet I love the tone and its unflinching faith in God. How true the text “The Lord is a sun and shield, He will give grace and glory, and no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly.” To me His ways are pleasantness, and all His paths are peace. Hallelujah! Your sister saved in Jesus, and on the forward march for glory.

Smiley, Ohio. July, 13, ’89

Dear Saints: — We commenced meeting 3 1/2 miles north-west of Antwerp Ohio, on July 3, in the name of king Jesus. Every meeting was a glorious victory for the Lord. The Lord wonderfully blessed His little ones in every meeting; the saints in that place received a wonderful settling down in the Lord. The meeting lasted 4 days. On Sunday Bro. J. N. Howard of Payne Ohio, met with us, and the Lord wonderfully preached the Word through him. God bless the dear saints who were with us in the meeting. From Payne Ohio some of the backslidden in heart, came out straight for the Lord. There were 14 souls saved in all, and six baptized. We take the Lord for our physician. He has healed my wife of an affliction of nine years. Your Bro. in Christ.

Fair Play, Polk Co., Mo.

Dear Saints Greetng: — May the dear Lord keep you filled with the perfect love of God. As it was published last fall that I was ordained to the work of the Lord, no doubt some of the brethren are wondering what has become of me, and what I am doing. As the Lord called me for local work, I have been sowing seed, and pruning, as the Lord leads. I did what the Lord had for me to do about my old home in Kansas. Three were led out free and clear for Jesus, and several others acknowledged the truth, but had not the courage to break away from babylon and walk in the light. I commenced here by distributing papers and tracts. There are a great many poor people here, that are deprived of healing the Gospel, after reading the papers I gave them, they requested me to open services in my own house. So for some time we have been having regular services at my house, but it seems most, impossible to get them melted down before God. Oh! it does seem as if the fullness of time for the Gentiles had come. It is like gleaning grapes after the vinyard is done. The doctrine of devils has been held up here, by the anti-ordinance come-outers. They held a big meeting here at Fair Play, some time ago and quite, a number professed sanctification, but they left them without obeying the command to all nations. So when they got under conviction for baptism they had to go to the sect preachers for it, and in order to be baptized there, they had to join the sect, consequently they have fallen. To-day finds me rejoicing in full salvation and the glorious liberty of the children of God. Your free brother.

Stromesburg, Neb., July, 21, ’89.

Dearly Beloved Saints: — We are well and saved, and keept complete in Christ. We are very much delighted with the beauty of this country. Since our arrival in these parts, the Lord has been with us in mercy and great power, helping us to “speak as the oracles of God.” Praise His holy name. We were very much afflicted in body at first, on account of the change of climate and water, but we have regained our health, and are still rejoicing in full salvation of soul and body. On our first Lord’s day in this country we preached at the Victor and also at the Union school-houses, with good attendance, and good attention was given to the Word. We commenced meeting at the Victor school-house on the first of July, and held meeting five nights, and on the fourth had meeting in Hoffer’s grove. It was one of great power and glory. The meeting resulted in the reclaiming of some and the sanctification of others. The Church was settled and increased by the increase of God. Hallelujah! Next Lord’s day we went to Thayer, preached in the school- house. We had good attendance, God helping us to preach in the power and demonstration of the Holy Ghost. Before our arrivel here dear Bro. Stover came from Table Rock, a distance of over one hundred miles, to meet us. Feeling led by the Spirit, we accompanied him to Table Rock, to his home, and commenced meeting the 10th. The Bro. prepared his grove, which was a pleasant place for worship. Much prejudice was broken down, some converted, and others sanctified, the Church much strengthened and built up. We had meeting every night, and three times on Lord’s day. We left Table Bock the 20th for York, and Polk Co. to resume our labors there. Leaving Bro’s John and James, to continue the meeting. May the Lord bless them much in great humility of heart and mind in all lowliness before God, and give them many souls for their hire. Amen! Your Bro. and sister in the faith once delivered to the saints.

Cochranton, Pa. July, 15, ’89.

Dear Trumpet Brethren: — I am saved and kept by the power of God. The Lord is still saving souls in Pa. Bro. Powell and myself have been holding a few meetings in the name of Jesus, and the Lord wonderfully blessed us in speaking the truth as it is in Christ. We held two meetings in the school-house, and then it was closed against us. But glory be to Jesus, we had the victory in spite of the devil, and the people opened their houses, and the meeting went on in Jesus’ name. The meeting lasted not quite two weeks, and there were eighteen consecrations, five for sactification and thirteen for pardon. We praise the Lord for it all. There are more calls for us to come and hold meetings, and we expect to start before long, if the Lord wills. Pray for us that we may be led by the Spirit of Christ; for as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Whatsoever we do, may we do it with an eye single to the glory of God and to the salvation of souls.

Your Bro’s in the love of Jesus. Amen.

Urbana, Kan. July, 24, ’89.

Dear Saints: — In much love and gratitude, I send this greeting. May the richest of God’s blessings rest upon you. I am truly pleased to tell you God is working in Kansas. While at Humboldt, God gave me a vision one night, that a work was to be done at Galesburg, a little town on the M. K. and T. R. R. I never had been there, and holiness had never been preached there. I wrote Bro. Newton, and he went and arranged for meetings, and in a few days we were holding meeting there. The first week or ten days, it looked very discouraging, but God held us right to it. We had to board ourselves, and sleep in the tabernacle. But few atatended. We let the light on, and the second Sunday-night, a sister that had been a Campbelite, went to the altar and was blessedly converted to God and got up and testified to it. Glory to God! That began to wake the people up to the reality; so we continued. On Tuesday night following, four more were converted. One was a Dunkard, the other three were sinners and made no profession; which stirred the country for many miles. Glory to Jesus forever! After this we did not lack for friend, nor food, nor congregation to preach to. Although in harvest time and very hot, most every night there was quite a large congregation. Saturday and Sunday nights immence crowds. Twice as many as could get in the tabernacle, with the best of order. Praise God! Conviction rested upon many, but opposition being so great, but few stepped into the fountain. It held over the fourth Sunday and the fourth Saturday-night, three were at the altar. God has dear people at Galesburg. Glory to God! I had to meet several heresies there, but God was sufficient for the occation. One was the Dunkard heresy. Praise God for the Holy Ghost to lead, to teach, into all truth. He opened up things to me that I never knew before, to meet them all. The last Sunday night, we commemorated the death and suffering of our dear blessed Master, and it seemed that I never realized the sacredness before, as on this occation. The power of God was wonderfully present, and those present will long remember it. The dear ones that had just come out of babylon and Sodom seemed to enjoy it so well.

Those who were ready were baptized. There were a few cases of healing to the glory of God, to show the people the power of God. Will all the saints remember the dear ones at Galesburg? Before we left nest day, they bad arrangements made for a camp-meeting in Oct., and lumber engaged for seats. The people expect Bro. Warner and Co. to be at the meeting. It is an open field for great good. Only we ought to have a tabernacle twice as large as ours. Let it be kept in mind, by the saints of Kansas and western Mo. Your Bro. saved through and through and meekly following Jesus.

G. R. Achor.

Donnelsville, Ohio.

Dearly Beloved: — The work of God is still moving on in these parts. We left our home July 5th, and went to Springfield, where we remained about ten days holding meetings, with Jesus in our midst. Here we came in contact with great mountains of prejudice against the true way, which had been caused principally by the lies of the priests of Baal, and secular papers. We learned that one of the sect priests had forbidden his flock to come to the meeting, but some had disobeyed orders and came, who after thorough investigation acknowledged the truth. As the meeting went on, the interest increased until in the last meeting, the devils ranks were broken, and one sinner came to God and was converted. Two others consecrated ail to God and claimed entire sanctification. From there we moved out in the country about two miles, where we had a precious meeting in the name of Jesus. Two souls were converted and one sanctified. After altar services, we observed the ordinances of God’s house; feet washing and Lord’s supper, and were made happy in so doing. Praise God forever! Pray for us all ye saints of the most high God. Your fully saved Bro

Wm. G. Schell.

Fenwick, Ont. Aug. 5, 1889.

Dear Brethren: — We are all well at present, enjoying the peace of God in our souls, and are running to and fro publishing this great salvation.

July the 14, we had a very precious meeting in the grove, on the beach of Lake Erie; after the meeting there were nine happy souls buried with Christ in baptism, five from Crowland, and four from Welland. The next Lord’s day we were thirty miles north-west of there, to hold a meeting. I am working most of the time with my hands, and it seems that the way is not opened up vat to get out of this country; but the Lord’s will be done.

We are preparing for a tabernacle meeting near Welland, and one near Fenwick, and every body is invited to come.

Your humble Bro. saved in Jesus.

John E. Smith.

Bangor, Mich. Aug. 21. ’89.

THE Gratiot Co. assembly meeting was a great success. A goodly number of Bro’s. and sisters from a distance were present. It commenced Thursday evening and closed Sunday evening. The Lord wonderfully blessed the people with His presence. 27 in all consecrated their all to the Lord, and were made to rejoice, because of the pardoning power and favor shown to guilty men, and the sanctifying influence. Our heart was made to rejoice, that the blessed Lord called after, and received Bro. Willie Warren again. O praise the good Lord for His long suffering and mercy.

Bro. Hill was ordained elder, and Bro’s. Aumauhger and Moore, were ordained deacons in the Church at Hamilton, Bro. Wm. Kennett for deacon, and his wife for elder in the Elm Church. May the Lord ever keep them in the “unity of the Spirit and the bonds of peace.” Amen.

The Lord used dear brother Earnest Sprague, who accompanied us, wonderfully in leading souls to Christ. We pray the Lord to keep him in the work.

Dear Saints of God: — I am saved just how. Praise the Lord! Sister Crowell and I, with others, held 4 meetings at Clam Lake, Aug. 10 and 11, and we had a glorious time. There were 14 saints went from our district. There was 10 consecrations, and one asked for prayers. Glory to our God! The little Church at that place was wonderfully strengthened. Sunday one dear soul went down into the watery grave with Jesus. Praise the Lord Your brother in Christ.

—:o:—

La Paz, Ind. Aug. 26, 89.

Dear Saints: — Grace and peace be multiplied unto you. I bless God this morning for the complete deliverance of my soul. I feel led this morning to write and let you know how our God is leading us in this part of His vineyard. Oh bless His name! After the glorious Beaver Dam feast, we felt led to return to this place, and continue to proclaim the blessed truth to the people here. We held one week’s meeting here before the camp-meeting, and found the people interested in the truth.

Aug 10th, ourself and wife, sister McCormack, and sister Drury, took train at Rochester for this place. Arriving here we began meeting the same evening at the Buffalo School-house, about three miles east of here. The meeting has been well attended, with good interest from the very first. Oh how God did fill our souls with glory, and give us liberty in pouring out the blessed truth upon the people. God put it upon ns to tell the people, the first night of the meeting, that He sent us there to stand up for His truth, and that souls were going to get saved during the meeting. Whereupon Samballat united his entire force of Dunkards, Campbellites, Methodist, and U let me B’s, to come up against the work, and to hinder it; also we found some Judahs that thought there was so much rubbish that we could not build the wall: nevertheless we put our trust in God, and continued the work, knowing that God had sent us, and that God does not send out workers unless He had work for them to do. Well the entire force of the pit being set in array against us, of course made things look dark for a few meetings, until the truth began to get hold of the people. The Lord showed us one night in a dream, six souls coming to the altar. The second night afterwards we saw it come to pass. Oh hallelujah! This of course was the turning point of the battle: since that time the devil’s force has been steadily driven back. Souls at the altar, either for pardon or sanctification, at about every meeting. The enemy finding he could not hinder the work by force of numbers, changed his plan, by sending an ungodly professed holiness preacher, by the name of Willis Logan in among us, to assist us in the work. But praise God! we are not ignorant of satan’s devices, and seeing at once that this man was unsaved, and that he had no part nor lot in the matter of holiness, we at once began to try and get him saved, telling him his true condition in the sight of God. But the more we tried to get him to see his true condition, the more obnoxious he made himself, even going to the altar and talking to souls that were seeking salvation, until God put it upon us to rebuke him publicly in the name of Jesus Christ. Whereupon himself and wife got up and spewed out their venom, showing to all present theft true condition and then left.

On Sabbath Aug. 25th, we went to the water where we baptized eleven of God’s little ones in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. O how God did bless our souls in observing the precious ordinance of baptism. After the baptizing we returned to the school-house where we had a very precious time of refreshing in observing the washing of the saint’s feet, and the Lord’s supper. O hallelujah! We realize that “If ye know these things, happy are ye if you do them.” Thirty-four of God’s little ones were present to fake part in these precious ordinances. After the ordinance meeting, sister McCormack felt led to speak the awful truth to the people; afterwards God enabled us to lay judgment to the line, and righteousness to the plummet. Afterwards we set out an altar; two souls came, one for pardon, one for sanctification, that had recently been converted in some sect. Oh hallelujah! The work is moving on. We do not know how long we shall stay here, or where we shall go from here. But wherever God leads us, we stand ready to obey. Brethren pray for us that we may serve God with all humility of mind. And that the Word of God may have free course, and God be glorified in and through us. Amen! Your Bro. in the love and. fellowship of Jesus, saved, sanctified, and tried.

Henry C Sharpnack.

P. S. We wish to say to those writing us, that our permanent address is Grand Junction, Mich., in care of GOSPEL TRUMPET.

OBITUARIES.

—:o:—

FATHER Wm. Ryland, of Jeromesville, Ashlano Co., O., went home to be with Jesus, June 5, 1889. Aged 74 years, 9 months, and 7 days.

This dear father in Israel seemed very near to our heart. He was present in the meeting where the very God of peace simplified us wholly in Mansfield Ohio, 13 years ago the 6th of July. He, with two other dear saints, were the first wholly sanctified souls, so far as we knew, that ever came into our house. He is one of the few who went forward in the light of God when the call came, “come out of her my people.” While the masses who professed sanctification at that time rejected the light, compromised with sect confusion, and backslid. Father Ryland was filled with great joy and peace to the end. How the dear old pilgrim was made to leap for joy at the Jerry City camp-meeting last August.

We take the following from a secular paper in his county.

“He formerly belonged to the United Brethren church, but a number of years ago he attended a meeting of the Holiness people, or Sanctificationists at Mansfield Ohio, where be embraced that doctrine, that sanctification, and justification was a separate and distinct work, and became one of its most devoted followers. He attended a great many of these meetings in different parts of the country and would testify whenever an opportunity was given. He claimed to have visions and other manifestations of God’s power, and we have no reason to doubt it, and the very last day of his stay here, they were of the most vivid and wonderful character.”

Little Jessie Gracy Fleek, was called away from earth to live with Jesus, July 24, 1889. Aged 2 years and 4 months. May her departure be blest to the hearts of the mother and friends, and may they all be prepared to meet her in Heaven.

Now beckons for us to come.
A cherub is calling at gates of Heaven,
“O come to the beautiful home.”

AT his home in Tuscarora township, Cheboygan Co., Michigan, Bro. Marcus D. McMaster departed this life to dwell with Jesus. July 24, 1889. Aged 65 years 1 month, and 6 days.

This dear Bro. has been a sufferer for a number of years from diseases contracted in the army. Last March be gave his heart to Jesus, and he died in the triumph of a living faith. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord and their works do follow them. He leaves a wife and seven children to mourn their loss. May God bless the bereaved wife and comfort the children for Jesus’ sake. Funeral services were held at Indian River, July 26th, by Bro. J. W. Carley.

Why should our tears in sorrow flow,
When God recalls His own;
And bids them leave a world of woe,
For an immortal crown.

Is not e’en death a gain to those
Whose life to God was given;
Gladly lo earth their eyes they close,
To open them in Heaven.

Their toils are past, their work is done,
And they are fully blest.
They fought tire fight, the victory won,
And entered into rest.

Then let our sorrows cease to flow;
God has recalled His own.
But let our hearts in every woe,
Still say: Thy will be done.

HANNAH M. Courtney was born in Randolph Co., Ind., Jan. 11th 1847. Departed this life Ang. 17th 1883. Aged 42 years, 7 months and 6 days. She was married to F. J. Courtney June 6th 1872; living together for a period of 17 years.

They were added to the church of the living God, by virtue of the spiritual birth, Dec. 20th 1886, and on the 25th were baptized in the river, in obedience to the faith and command of our Lord Jesus Christ, in which she became rooted and grounded, settled and stablished, all swallowed up in the will of God. While on her bed of affliction, she earnestly admonished her unsaved friends to prepare to meet her in heaven, telling them what a blessed thing it was to be at peace with God. She passed away in great peace, and joyful assurance of going home to glory.

Funeral services were held at Praise Chapel, before a very large concourse of people, by D. S. Warner.

FREE AGAIN IN CHRIST.

>:o:<

MY dear brethren. Saints of the living God. Greeting: May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ abound unto you more and more, amen.

Well I want to say, I am free in Christ this morning; glory to God! my soul is just as free and happy as a bird. Glory to Jesus! My soul is basking in the sunlight of glory this morning. Hallelujah! Jesus makes me free once more. Bless His holy name forever and ever. Whosoever the Son maketh free is free indeed, yes just as free as Heaven. Dear saints you will bear with me as I write this epistle, for the glory of God. Paul says with the heart man believeth unto rigteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Dearly beloved, I have somewhat to confess; although painful as it may seem to be, for one who has been a professor and teacher of holiness for over 5 years, to come, out and confess he had lost that blessed experience. Well an open confession is good for the soul. Hallelujah! And I am glad of the privilege of testifying through the GOSPEL TRUMPET, and making a confession of the blunders and mistakes I have made in the last five years. While I am certain I have done nothing willfully wrong, I have done some things not consistent with a pure life in Christ. And I now make a confession of all, asking the forgiveness of all the pure saints of God. The dear Lord knows it all, and forgives me, blessed be His name. Well says one: how did you find out you was not right? This query will naturally arise in some minds as you read this. Well I will say when I came to Bangor C. M. I found I did not have the pure fellowship of the saints. I did not know what was the reason, I thought I was all right. I thought it was them, they were all out of the way. Bro. Warner talked with me, and others talked with me; still I could not see wherein I was wrong. After some time nearly all the brethren in the ministry, look me into a tent; there they tried to have a talk with me, the devil got the advantage of me, and I got angry, and said things I had to repent of. Well I came down at the altar and was blessed, but did not go deep enough. After C. M. I started out in Co. with others to work, which were in about the same condition as myself, and we had quite a struggle, wrangling and jangling, all professing to be right. Of course I will not confess for them, but will say we all had to get down and get saved. When I came to Beaver Dam C. M., there I found I had very little, if any fellowship with the saints, and the devil made me believe they were all wrong. I was in an awful condition, deceived, I felt no condemnation, I thought I was all right, but I was shown by the Lord my condition. Every sermon seemed to be centered right on me; the truth seemed like mighty hail-stones, pelting me on every side. The devil made me believe they were abusing me, and I had better leave. So I was making ready to leave when the Lord melted my heart, subdued my stubborn will, brought me into that condition where I saw myself, not where I ought to be. Oh praise God my eyes were opened. Hallelujah! Tongue cannot express the gratitude of my heart for my deliverance. Well I confessed all of my wrongs to God and He forgave me, and what then? I found the saints began to fellowship me as soon as I was justified. Then I never stopped till I knew I was sanctified wholly, the old man crucified. O glory to God! I knew the very moment when the work was accomplished. Hallelujah! I was filled with the Holy Ghost, and made free once more. What then? I had perfect fellowship with the pure saints. Bro., there is no trouble in having fellowship with the saints, if you are all right, where God wants you, and where you ought to be. May God help you to see there is something wrong with you if you have not the fellowship of the saints. O hallelujah! If we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another. Well I am walking in the light, and feel the sweet fellowship in my soul (which is the Spirit of God) O Hallelujah! Well dear ones, I realize I have a grander, deeper, richer, sweeter, better, and more sublime experience than ever before in all my life. O the sweet currents of love is flowing deep in my soul. My heart is filled with the precious, perfect, pure love of God. Glory to His name! How I realize the most of all my trouble, has been because I became puffed up. When God blessed my labors I did not give the glory to God as I ought. O may God help me to keep humble at the feet of Jesus. I ask the prayers of the dear saints, that I may be faithful to God. The Lord bless you all, I am your humble servant, Hallelujah to the Lamb forever.

Dear Saints: — Thanks be unto God for such a messenger of light, joy, and comfort; as it comes to my northern home. There is only one other in these parts, as yet, who have accepted the whole counsel of God. One dear sister of Petoskey rejoices with me in this evening light. We two meet together on Sabbath morning for worship, and God verifies His Word with His presence, where the two or three are met in His name. As in the olden time, so it is now. “But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow.” “And many lepers were in Isreal in the time of Eliseus the prophet, and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian.” — Luke, 4:26, 27. “For thus saith the Lord God: Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out.” — Eze. 34: 11. Praise God forever! We are determined through the grace of God to endure unto the end. To keep unspotted from the world, to seek to know, and do, and suffer His precious will concerning us, let what will come, or at any cost that we may inherit eternal life. I wish to say a few words in regard to the children’s paper. I rejoiced in my soul when I was enabled to send for it. Dear saints I pray God to impress you as to your duty in this matter. Our children are in great need of every influence possible to turn their minds heavenward, and enable them to resist temptation. Much of the trials, and perplexities that come to us as parents, are owing to what we often witnessed in the development of the carnal mind in them, and the bent of their dispositions, to desire the things which are common with sinners every-where. We are responsible for every effort which is in our power to train in the admonition of the Lord. We read of departed saints, who had mighty power with God, and wonderful answers to prayer, but they were self sacrificing christians. Some of them rose before break of day, and spent hours in prayer and communion with God. They sacrificed in appetite and various comforts in order to give light and health to perishing souls, and in so doing they themselves received light more abundantly. Dear saints I pray you to send for the children’s paper, though you should not see any cake or pie in your house for a month, and such a denial (for Jesus’ sake and the children for whom He died) will enable you to do it. Where there are no Sunday-schools among you, the Sabbath is a long day for the little ones. Last Sunday afternoon I called my little Belle, and taking her on my lap, I read from the children’s paper, where the little boy had fallen out with God. She soon became interested and very thoughtful, as I explained what it all meant, and as I suggested passing on to Aunt Amy’s piece, she said no mama, read that again. Repeating the request, till I read it three or four times. Oh how easy it is to make an influence on their minds and hearts, either for good or evil. God forbid that the dear brother whom God has raised up to feed the children, should have to discoutinue the same through a lack of attention or interest on the part of the parents.

Yours in the love of Christ.

Dear Brethren: — I feel led to write my testimony for the Lord. Praise the Lord for a salvation that keeps me by the moment fully saved in Jesus with eternal glory in my soul. Last February I took a very severe cold and had the neuralgia which caused me to suffer a great deal. The cold soon went to my lungs, and proved to be quick consumption. I was soon so bad that I could not rest day nor night. I could not lie down at night. I decided to trust in God for the healing of my body, but the devil tried hard to destroy my faith. He presented many discouraging things, but I submitted myself to God, resisted the devil and he fled from me. God gave me the promise: I “have heard thy prayer and have seen thy tears; behold I will heal thee.” — 2 Kings, 20:5. Then it seemed that the combined forces of hell were let loose on me. By the grace of God, I threw myself wholly on the promise of God, saying: “though He slay me yet will I trust Him.” I was all on the altar, and God had my will. Oh I do praise the dear Lord for His sustaining grace which enables me to trust Him all the time. I prayed time after time for the Lord to show me what to do about sending for the elders near us, and He showed me they were not straight. So my dear companion being an elder, anointed me in the name of the Lord, according to the Word of the Lord in James 5: and the Lord raised me up and I was able to help do the house work. But in a few days I took another severe cold and was soon worse than ever. Then we wrote to Bro. Warner and Co., requesting their earnest prayers for my healing, also requested the dear saints to pray for me through the Trumpet. Oh what a wave of glory filled our souls on the reception of dear Bro. Warner’s letter. Oh what words of comfort and encouragement I began to amend the very day they said they went to God in prayer for me. “Praise the Lord oh my soul, and all that is within me bless His holy name. I kept right on getting better, was able to walk 3 miles to meetings. I could sing as well as well as I ever could, and my cough seemed to be entirely healed. A little after this I was suddenly taken very sick from another cause. In a very short time, I came near passing into eternity. Oh what peace filled my soul while passing through these trying hours. I could say with Paul, I would rather depart to be Christ, yet it seemed more needful for my precious little children, and dear companion’s sake, for me to remain in the flesh, my dear Heavenly Father saw fit to let me get very low. I was confined to my bed 6 weeks; during the time, I met much opposition and unbelief in the people. Well I do praise the Lord for all my afflictions and for every trial; “for our light afflictions which are but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” — 2 Cor. 4:17. Surely I have been passing through the real testing fire, but even then the burden was light. Praise God! In obedience to His own precious Word I am well again. Oh how inexpressable is my joy and thankfulness to the dear Lord for healing all our diseases. Oh glory! glory!! May God bless every soul that reads this testimony, and may you be decided not to stop short of areal Bible experience. For I can say of a truth, there is nothing worth so much as to know you are ready for the coming of the Lord.

Your sister in Jesus.

Dear Saints: — I am saved and sanctified and kept by the power of God. I bless God for the saving power, and for the marvelous light He has given His dear saints to walk in. Praise God for a full and free salvation that saves me from all sin. Bless God for a Bible salvation. I will continually sing praises unto Him who hath redeemed my soul, for He hath taken my feet from the mire and clay, and set them upon the rock, and hath put a new song in my mouth, even I praises to our God. Pray for me that I may be kept low at the feet of Jesus.

Dear Saints: — I still belong to Christ, praise His righteous name forever and ever. I do praise God for a salvation that saves me to the uttermost, and keeps me from sin day by day. I am saved and sanctified by the precious blood of Jesus. I am trusting Him for all things; He is my physician. I have not taken any medicine since last June. I was taking two or three kinds of medicines, but I consecrated my all to God and He touched my body, and by His help, I trust all in His hands. I have been taken sick a number of times and God has healed me each time. Glory be to His holy name! I am glad I have found Him. I love Him and all His ways, and His ways are not grieveous to those who love Him. I have just returned to our neighborhood again, its just as destitute of salvation as when I went away. I have been visiting a few of the saints. I heard the Word of God preached, and my soul praises God for this blessed evening light. I am alone in this dark place. May God bless you all. Amen. Your sister in Christ.

Dear Saints: — Oh I do praise God that I was born into the Church of God, six years ago. But I was not satisfied with the first work of grace, for I could not over-come my tobacco, and was sinning and repenting all the time. I had not heard much about the second work of grace, but the Word and the Spirit told me that there was a higher life to live. Praise God and the Lamb forever! So I went to God for a second work, and He gave me victory over tobacco, lust of the flesh, sin and the devil. I joined the U. B sect, because I thought I had to join some sect, but praise God, I was never satisfied with them. My soul hungered for something higher than what they taught. When I first heard the saints, and heard them reviled by the sects, this scripture came to my mind: “in the last days the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.” I was in babylon, but praise God! babylon was never in me. They profess that they know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate. — Titus, 1:16. Your brother sanctified and under the blood.

Dearly Beloved: — This morning finds me saved and sanctified and satisfied with Jesus. Amen. “I waited patiently on the Lord, and He inclined unto me. He brought me up out of an horrible pit; out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and He hath put a new song in my mouth, even praises unto God.”

“The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want: He restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the pathes of righteousness, for His name’s sake. Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners. Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful, but His delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law doth He meditate day and night.” O praise the Lord all ye nations, praise Him all ye people, for His merciful kindness is great toward us, and the truth of the Lord endureth for ever. Praise ye the Lord. Amen.

Dear Saints: — Grace and peace be multiplied. We are still on the Lord’s side, doing His whole will against great opposition. But in spite of all the enemy may say or do, we are still gaining ground, and making in roads on the enemies ground, About two weeks ago we had a meeting at a brother’s house, and a colored, man came to the meeting, and a yelling hooting mob gathered around the door and made great threarts, fulfilling the Scripture, they shall roar together as Lions, and yell like Lions’ whelps. — Jer. 51:38. The owner of the property made the Bro. move the meetings to another part of town, and on last Lord’s day, two followed the Lord in the ordinance of baptism, and the Spirit bore witness that the ordinance was of God. Yours in the love of God, built in the Church of God, sanctified and made meet for the Master’s use.

Dear Brethren: — I do praise God for salvation full and free. I know that God saves me just now, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth me from all sin. I am trusting the Lord for every thing. It seems to me the more hedged up the way appears the sweeter it is just to trust our loving Father, and leave the result with Him.

Your sister fully consecrated to God, willing to do His will in all things.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — May the Lord wonderfully bless you all. I am rejoicing in God, my Savior, that I am sanctified and ready for the coming of our Lord. In 1879 I joined a sect known as the Reformed Methodists. I lived in that sect until the 1st of June 1889, when I came out, and gave up all things for Christ, who sanctified my soul, body, and spirit. I praise God for the glory that fills my soul. Pray for me that I ever prove faithful, and live humble at the foot of the cross of Christ.

Yours in Christ.

My testimony is, I am fully saved in Jesus, and a member of His body, the Church, and standing on the sea of glass mingled with fire, and have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, praise His holy name forever and ever!

Oh that the Lord would send some fire baptized minister here to preach the whole of God’s truth to the people.

Dear Saints: — Glory to God! I can say I am saved and kept by the mighty power of God every day. I have the victory over the beast and his image. I am sealed with the Holy Ghost; my name is written in the Church of the Firstborn. I am resting completely in the arms of my Savior. He is my refuge and my hiding-place. I am dead to the world and every thing that is not of God.

Yours washed and tried.

Dear Brethren: — I am still saved and trusting God. He is my all and in all. He keeps me from all sin. Praise His name forever! I see the need of some holy ministers to preach God’s Word here in the South. Ther is much sect holiness here, but it does not measure up to the Word. Tabernacle meetings are going on here in this country all the time now, claiming to be holy, but some believe in sprinkling, some in baptism, and some think they can be sanctified and not believe in baptism at all.

Dear Brethren: — I praising God for saving me from all sin. I tried to serve God for three years, but thought I could not live without sin. In Jan., Bro. Wm Montgomery came here and preached that they that commit sin are of the devil, so I sought God, and He received me. I consecrated for sanctification and received it. I praise God that He has made me pure, and keeps me from all sin. Praise God and the Lamb forever! There are but few of us here standing for God. Pray for us.

Dear Saints: — May heaven’s striche blessings rest upon you. I wish to say to the glory of God through the GOSPEL TRUMPET, that I am still on the Lord’s side. I have sweet victory over all the works of the enemy of the soul, and have rest, joy and peace, in the Holy Ghost. I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that to save me from my sins and purify my soul, and purge my concience from dead works to serve the true and living God. Our Redeemer is working in this part of this sin darkened world. I am alone as far as ministerial help is concerned, but God is more than all that can be against us and always causeth us to triumph over all the power of satan. Praise ye the Lord, I remain as ever your Bro. under the blood that cleanseth from all sin.
