Heart Thoughts.

—:o:—

There is a brighter world;
The spirit tendeth
Upward, on the strong wings
Which fancy lendeth;

From eyes whence bitter tears
Were lately streaming,
A ray of holy joy
Is oft seen beaming.

Gleams of a brighter world
Have caught the vision,
And borne the spirit up
To scenes elysian.

Such thoughts as these are not
Mere earthly feelings;
From heaven they came, they are
God,s own revealings.

THE DESOLATION OF BABYLON.

—:o:—

“Thus saith the Lord: behold I will raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in the midst of them that rise up against me, a destroying wind; and I will send unto Babylon fanners, that shall fan her, and shall empty her land: fur in the day of trouble they shall be against her round about. Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the Lord’s vengeance; He will render unto her a recompense. Babylon hath been a golden cup in the Lord’s hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad. Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: howl for her: take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed. We would have healed Bayblon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go every one into his own country: for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies. Jer. 51:1, 2, 6—9.

What an awful picture is here drawn by the prophet. But more impressive still is the awful words of the inspired prophet fulfilled. Some one asks where? On every hand as we look around us at the cold graceless dead formal ecclesiastical world of denominationalism; we see the fulfillment of Jeremiah’s words. Truly she has fallen, and become the habitation of devils. Rev. 18:2. But some one says the word babylon has reference to sectism. Let us look at its definition: taken from babel, which means confusion, or disorder. Is there any other place on earth where there is more confusion than in the sects? The word babel came from the confounding of the language of the people, when they were trying to “build us a tower that shall reach unto heaven”. So in the denominations of to day. We see their language confounded; no two speaking the same thing. Thus hath God decreed that they shall fall in this, their one, and only point of unity, namely that of building a way of their own to reach unto heaven. So those builders said, “let us make us a name lest we be scattered abroad, “Like each sect is trying to build up their own name instead of Christ, and building up the body of Christ, which is the one, and only true Church. Of which body every person becomes a member of Christ, the instant be is truly born of the Spirit of God. Having no need of man’s manifestation, whatever in the process of joining Christ’s body, which is the Church Col. 1:18, 24. But how the devil does rack the brain of his devoteers in sect babylon, to keep them continually inventing some new-fangled notion to turn the minds of the people from the truth Of the Gospel, unto some image gotten up by the enemy to deceive, and to beguile unstable souls. How true are the words of Paul to Timothy. 2-Tim. 4:3, 4. But thank God they shall proceed no further for their folly is being made manifest unto all men.” — 2 Tim. 3:9. From the days of paganism unto the present time, as the light of God has continued to shine, brighter, and brighter upon the earth, the devil has tried to keep pace with the light; trying to invent something just off the line of truth, in order to turn the minds of the people in the wrong direction. He knows that the counterfeit nearest the genuine is the most dangerous. And now we have reached the evening light, when the full light of the glorious Gospel of Christ is shining on the earth, showing that all creeds and isms only tend to bring discord, and divisions among God’s people, instead of bringing them into the unity of the faith; and as those that are honest that have been ensnared in sect babylon, are stepping out, and renouncing all her abominations as fast as the light is shown to them. Therefore the old fellow is becoming alarmed, as he sees the spell, under which he has held the people, being broken. Therefore he sees that the old routine of sectishness will no longer suffice to deceive the mind of the more candid thinking people, and as the light of perfect holiness of heart, which makes all God’s people one, outside of all sects, and division walls, completely delivering them out of the devil’s powers, dawns upon the people, the devil sees that this threatens the destruction of his whole realm. So he says we must take active steps to stop this work. Finally he hits upon a plan that he thinks will succeed in a measure at least. So he says that it is useless to longer fry to make candid people believe that holiness of heart by a second work of grace is not a present attainment, so we will surrender that point in the battle, and turn our whole attention to the church joining business; for unless we can keep the sect yoke upon the people, we have lost our power over them entirely. And as the old creeds and disciplines have become stale and dead letters, and no longer have any influence until the people, and the devil says: I am disgusted with them myself; let us have a new creed, and let us have more holiness teaching connected with it, as the great majority of the old ones do not teach it much, and their followers practice it less. So he says: where will I find a man in all my realm upon whom I shall bestow the honor of standing at the head of this new babel tower, I am about to build? So in looking all his servants over, he concludes that he has found in S. B. Shaw of Dutton Mich; a man after his own heart, that shall fulfill all his will. So as Shaw has long felt that it was to his interest to stand at the head of some sect of rituals to be enforced upon his devotees, he very readily accepted the nomination, and sets to work to compile the rituals, of the man-tower, called the HOLINESS MISSION, and starts out to propagate the same. They also admit that it is useless to longer try to conceal the fact that saints, which means holy ones, is a scriptural name of God’s children, and wishing to put a holiness garb on their bundle of sect rituals, they call themselves saints, to better decieive. But thank God the days of mixture of darkness and light are at an end. The true light now shineth, which shows that sectism is the greatest sin now extant. So we find that some of the sects think they can stand to have holiness preached in their meeting houses, and can even stand to hear the line drawn between saints and sinners; but above all things the preacher must not say any thing against worldly sect organization. And as Shaw just fills the bill in this respect, we find some of them calling him in to try and revive them from their dead fallen graceless condition. Among his recent attempts at reviving that which God had cursed, was in the U. B. meeting house of Casco, Allegan Co. Mich. We having heard that Shaw was doing such a great work for God at that place, went one evening to see for ourselves. And of all the disgusting soul crippling, God dishonoring work we ever witnessed under the name of a revival meeting that was the worst. About 20 souls came to the altar, when the invitation was given, and instead of instructing them how to take hold of God by faith, the U. B. presiding elder got up, and said he did not think anyone competent to teach souls at the altar. But they must be taught by the Spirit. So the dear souls struggled at the altar for some time, and finally they left as they came, except one young man who would not leave the altar, and they finally got around him, and sang and shouted till they got him worked up to that pitch, that he thought he had salvation. No faith about it, but a mere wrought up, feeling taken as an evident acceptance with God. God pity such poor deluded souls. And enable them to realize that faith not feeling is the condition of salvation. All such enthusiastic feeling worked up by physical force, is not on the line of salvation, but is only a mental delusion. Thank God for salvation by faith which brings the witness in our hearts, by the Holy Ghost. No wonder that the “Angel cried mightily that babylon is fallen, is fallen and,” come out of her my people, that you partake not of her sins and that you recieve not of her plagues, for her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquity. ”Rev. 18:1-6. And although the devil was highly elated at the prospect of a new holiness creed, yet when he come to look it over he was disgusted with it from the fact that it contained so many traditions taken from the old musty creed of the past. But as Shaw was a faithful servant of sectism, he allowed it to pass as it is, knowing that this frail little daughter of old mother Rome came into the world too late in the end of time to be reasonably expected to grow up to womanhood; inasmuch as the evening light is now shining, and the destruction of babylon is going forth with whorlwinds. Amen! Even so come Lord Jesus.

Your Bro. in the faith and fellowship of Jesus preserved unto His heavenly appearing.

HEALING BY FAITH.

-:‡||§||‡:-

“Behold they that sat in darkness, saw great light”.

The good Lord has given me such wonderful light and faith in His name. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. By faith, Noah being warned of God with things not yet seen, prepared an ark for the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became an heir of righteousness, which is of faith. Bless God! But how do we get this faith? The Word says, “So, faith cometh by hearing and bearing by the Word of God. Let us believe the Word even to the healing of our bodies, as well as to the saving of our souls. I do praise God for this precious Word. I am believing it through and through and living it every day. In Titus 1:2, it says that God cannot lie, neither will He change one jot or tittle of His Word; but we must meet his requirements. “He that hath my commandments and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me; and he that loveth me shall be loved by my Father, and all things whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. I praise God for His promises; and whatsoever we ask of Him, we shall receive because we keep His commandments, and do those things which are pleasing in His sight.

And this is the confidence we have in Him; if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us, and these signs shall follow them that believe: “In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. Bless God for the positive promises. In St. Jno. 14:12, Jesus says, “he that believeth on me, the things that I do shall he do also, and greater works than those shall He do. Praise the Lord! What more could we ask? Well I do bless God that I am still trusting Him for all things. We have been having the LaGrippe and the Lord has healed us without any medicine. I have never been sick enough to send for the elders, but I would send for them if neccessary. If the Lord does not heal me immediately, I just hold on by faith until He does do so. While our bodies are the temples of the Holy Ghost God does not want us to be taking drugs and medicine when He has provided us a much better way. If we cannot trust our bodies with God we ought to get deeper in Him.

Some people ask why God afflicts us if we live free from sin each day. We just give you the Word for it. God says, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of Him. For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth and scourgeth every son He receiveth; if ye endure chastisement, God dealeth with you as with sons; but if ye be without chastening, then are ye bastards and not sons.

Shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? Now no chastening for the present seems to be joyous, but grevious; nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruits of righteousness unto them who are exercised thereby. Praise the Lord! I find it so, I find it so. May God wonderfully help us all to let patience have its work, that we may be perfect entire wanting nothing, and run with patience the race which is set before ns, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. Amen. I praise God for a Bible salvation in His word, and am walking in all the light He gives me.

Your sister in the Lord.

FOLLOWING JESUS ABOVE ALL THINGS.

—‡o‡—

WHAT IS THAT TO THEE? FOLLOW thou ME.

It is real blessed to know that the Savior was once on earth; was manifest in the flesh and left us an example that we should follow His steps, who did no sin, neither was guile found in His month; and it is so blessed for us to have the mind of Christ, so as to do His will in all things. A person must be saved from all actual transgressions before he can follow Jesus indeed and in truth. They cannot have strife, divisions, backbitings, heresies among themselves and follow Jesus at the same time. He never was guilty of, never left such an example, nor never gave any command to be such. When Jesus spoke the above text He was talking with Peter about how be loved Him. This was after He was crucified and rose. Before He was crucified He told them that they would be offended because of Him; and Peter affirmed Him that if all men forsook Him, he would follow Him even unto death, and Jesus told him that before the cock would crow, he would deny Him thrice. But he did not believe. Big “I” or self got in the way. He did not consider that Jesus had given him strength to follow that far, or to do what he had done.

Some people! take Peter’s case and try to fight holiness with it. They say: “Oh yes, you say you are saved, and God is keeping you from sin each day, but you will soon deny the Lord like Peter did. Dear reader, do not act as Peter did or worse, and then vilify him. Never vilify anyone that does better than you do, but do belter yourself. Some try to lament over poor Judas who pretended to follow Christ, and then betrayed Him with a kiss, a token of affection, but never see poor self. If you profess to follow Jesus, and sin against Him, you are as big a Judas as he was. Do you not know that God says, “he that committeth sin is of the devil, (Jno. 3:8) and that you cannot serve two masters”. You say you are a christian but cannot live without sinning. If christians sin, what do sinners do to make themselves sinners? The Bible makes Peter’s case very plain. He was not sanctified when he denied the Lord; and Jesus told him that he would deny Him, and said: “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away”. God help us to obey His word in all things, for we are going to be judged by it. The fact is this: He knew what Peter would do and just spoke the truth about it, for He knows what is in the heart of man,(St. John 2:25) and it came to pass just as He said. Peter let a Jewish maid back him out; but notice the difference in him after he was sanctified on the day of Pentecost. There were dwelling in Jerusalen, devout men, out of every nation under heaven (Acts 2:5) and they accused them of being full of new wine, or drunk. Then notice the difference in him after he had received the sanctifying power. While the Jewish maid backed him out and now there are devout men from all nations under heaven accusing them falsely, and before it was said truthfully. Did Peter run off and say, brethren hold the fort if you can; the maid hacked me out by telling me the truth, and now this multitude is accusing me falsely, and I must take care of no one? nay. He arose in the presence of all of them and withstood them, and contradicted their assertions, saying. These are not drunk as ye suppose, seeing it it but the third hour of the day. And he went on to tell them, that was the fulfillment of the prophet Joel. Reader have you the power of the Holy Ghost that you can look a wicked man in the face when they cross the teachings of God’s truth, and falsely accuse you, and tell them of it without fear, yet in love, and tell them of God’s truth in spite of their opposition. Think of what a victory for God by Peter opening fire upon the devil, with the power of God; 3000 souls won to Christ. If you are not fighting the devil, it is because you are in his clutches, and he is leading you captive at his will. It is a fight from here to glory. God help us to fight the good fight to the end, fight sin on every hand. Be sure you repent, and let the Lord justify you freely and sanctify you wholly. 1 Thess. 5:23; then follow the example the Saviour left us to follow (l Pet. 2:21-22) amid reproach and shame; for without you do this, hell awaits you as your home through eternity. Heaven’s decree has gone forth. “Without holiness, no man shall see the Lord”. Heb. 12:14. You say you are like Peter; you was once converted, but when the test comes, you will deny the Lord. Do not go back on what you was once. How are you now? If you are converted to God you will not deny the Lord as long as you are justified. Peter was converted before he denied the Lord, but he was not when he was engaged in the act. For his conversion see Matt. 18:26 and Luke 10:20. Peter’s act in denying the the Savior was like all others of that kind, preceded by a desire to do so, instead of standing up boldly for Him, and his fall took place when he conceived that idea with an intent to do so. And when Jesus told him how He would suffer and bo crucified, Peter rebuked Him and said: be it far from Thee, Lord, this shall not be done unto Thee. He pretended to know more about Jesus’ suffering than He did Himself; and when Jesus told him he would deny him, he contradicted Jesus and said: “Though all men forsake Thee, I will follow Thee, even unto death”; but it came to pass as Jesus said; and Peter found out that Jesus knew something about him; and after Jesus arose and asked if he loved Him, he answered: “Yea Lord”, (i. e., he loved Him), but said: “Thou knowest it. When a person is willing to admit that Jesus knows all about them, he is reaching a good point. God help us, when Jesus says anything, to admit it to be true. Jesus says: “Follow thou me”. And he told him to feed his lambs (i. e., justified ones) and then, sheep (sanctified ones). God help us beloved, to feed them as God would have them fed.

Ministers of the many so called churches do not feed their flock as Christ commanded, but seek to feed themselves, and have the people follow them and. their creeds and disciplines, more than to obey God and and the teachings of His word, and they receive their teachings, instead of “Thus saith the Lord”. It is well enough to follow the example of a godly Bro., but be sure he is following the steps of Jesus. As Paul says, “be ye follwers of me. How? Even as I am also of Christ. Notice the conversation between Peter and Jesus, before he uttered the words of, “what is that to thee? follow thou Me”. Jesus started off and Peter following, and Peter turned and wanted to know what a certain disciple would do. So many get their eyes on persons according to the flesh. Now reader it makes no difference what people believe in; you must consider what Jesus says. “What is that to thee? follow thou Me. He is the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father except by Him.

Then be sure that you follow Him in all things and at all times.

S. H. Bozeman.

EDITORIAL NOTES.

It is now time to send in calls for meetings. Time will be arranged just as fast as can be. Brethren feeling directed to any certain parties to hold meeting at your place, confer with then, and you and them arrange the time. Let there be a glorious summer campaign.

For some time we have been moved in reference to a general campmeeting in Gratiot Co. Mich. We feel desirous to meet the brethren in such a meeting. Bro. Sharpnack expects to get a tabernacle for this summer campaign; if so we can use it at Bangor C. M. and Gratiot. As both he and Bro. Michels are inclined in the Spirit to tabernacle work, we trust the Lord will put them together and bless them with an outfit. Amen.

FOR want of space in this issue, news from the field, &c., from several of the brethren has been delayed until next issue

The work of the Lord is moving well in the south. Cheering reports frequently reach us from that field. Some Bro. or a small company should arrange a campaign south to Mississippi, and perhaps to other states this summer. Bro Kilpatrick is called for.

Bro. G. Y. Austin, has a farm of good land, comfortable buildings, two good orchards. He is involved, and being clearly called of the Lord to go forth and labor in His vineyard, he longs to be loosed from this earthly care, so as to obey the voice of the Lord. He feels led to pray God to send him a buyer, and also make this announcement in the Trumpet. There are 71 acres of land. Price $1800. Or will exchange for a smaller place. May the Lord send some one to loose him and let him go.

A CONFESSION.

—§o§—

Bro. J. W. Sickles of Kan., now in Mo., who was publicly admonished through the Trumpet tome time ago for improper conduct, after having been privately labored with by Bro. Achor, now sends us the following statement: “I frankly acknowledge my wrong, and ask the forgiveness of all God’s people and pledge fidelity to the cause. The Lord has wonderfully anointed me to preach the Word. Praise His name forever! I send this epistle forth in the name of my Master, seeking only the glory of God, asking the prayers of all God’s people. Amen.”

J. W. Sickles.

We are glad to receive this communication from the brother, and we assure him our love, and prayers, that he by a holy life may have the confidence of all the saints, and the blessing of God on his soul and labors, In our very responsible position we are determined to give sanction and toleration near in no way to any person not walking in Bible purity. And yet we pledge our love and sympathy to any soul that manifests an humble and sincere spirit to get right with God, and ready to manifest fellowship toward any brother or sister as we are made conscious of his fellowship with the Father and the Lord Jesus.

A WOLF IN SHEEPS CLOTHING,

§—§

It is with holy indignation because of a disgrace on the cause of Christ, that we speak of a notorious rascal, who has been tolerated by the inconsistent stupidity of some brethren, and even to some extent by some elders of God’s Church in Wood and Sandusky, Co. Ohio. We would like to know what elders are for, if prowling devils, in sheep clothing are permitted to enter and devour the flock of God, and blaspheme the name of Jesus. When describing the qualification and duties of elders, the Apostle says. “For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers specially they of the circumcision:” Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake. — Titus. 1:10, 11

And then it is plainly seen that it is the duty of the elders to discern, expose and rebuke, yea stop the mouths of such beasts of prey. For this Christ fills faithful souls with the Holy Spirit, discerning, and all authority. There is no other way for the Church of the New Testament to maintain harmony, peace and purity, but by the possession of holiness, and authority and power of the New Testament dispensation. God’s Church is not run by human machinery, her preachers are not known by paper credentials, and the only license that God gives is a pure heart, the gift of the Holy Spirit, and a divine call, which is always accompanied with a divine qualification. As soon as any man loses the Spirit of God out of his soul, he loses his license, and God’s children should live in God where you know what spirits come unto you. Christ rebuked the Church at Thyatira because thy suffered “Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce His servants.” — Rev. 2:20. And He commended the Church at Ephesus because they had, “tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars.” — Rev. 2:2.

May God help His people, and especially His elders to so live in the light of God where they can try the devil’s instruments and prove them liars, and expose them, and If you shirk some responsibilities that rest upon you, these wolves come and “seduce,” and destroy immortal souls, their blood will be upon your skirts.

Some, weeks ago Bro. John N. Slagle wrote us from Crawford Co. Ohio, stating that a professed holiness man calling himself PERSONAL was in his community; an anti-ordinance man, stopping with, and fellowshiped by persons of that same antichrist doctrine. He said he had been a Roman Catholic priest in Bucyrus Ohio, told various falsehoods about God’s true saints. Bro. Slagle afterward was over to Upper Sandusky Ohio, and found the same man had been there, under the assumed name of Persiville. Said there that he had been here at the Trumpet office; and added some base falsehoods concerning things here and concerning another saint who he said he met on the train. Next we received letters from Rising Sun, Wood Co. Ohio, that a man had made his appearance there calling himself Paul. As soon as we received the letter, we felt assured that it was the same character that had called himself Personal and Persiville in other places, and we so informed the brethren, that they would find he was under an assumed name, a devil under a cloak. At first he seemed to preach very good straight doctrine. But was soon found in the fellowship of the worst enemies of the truth. Preaches love, love; flatters, and draws by his deceptive magnetic coils. But “while he cries peace, he bites with his teeth,” the saints of God who are absent; slanders the ministers and cause of Christ in other states. He told in Wood Co. O. that he had been a Lutheran priest in Bucyrus O. He told several conflicting stories in the same neighborhood, the brethren write us. He has also furnished clear evidence that he is the identical man that I was in Crawford Co. as Personal. For he has admitted that he was there, and even mentioned the name of Bro. John Slagle, so we know it is the same man, but he had one name there and another at the next place. He should be arrested and fined for his assumption of false names, or at least exposed and rebuked. As further proof that he is the same man that was in the Slagle neighborhood, a scrap of paper he dropped in the stand in Wood Co. contained the name and address of the very anti-ordinance man that he stopped with in Crawford Co.; and some other names at Bucryrus, O., who, a brother that lived there informs us are freelovers.

From Crawford Co. he is described as follows. Mediem size, slim face, hair dark but not black, light complexion blue eyes little bald on front part of his head, of German descent, which is noticeable,in his language. And is thought to be a good scholar. This was Personal, and Persiville and this is the description of Paul. Medium height, dark hair, a little bald on the crown and in front. Large perceptives, heavy eyebrows, large blue eyes, upper front teeth out. A bass voice of strong force. Mrs. Paul, or rather Mrs. any body, is medium size, brown eyes, and quite a soprano singer. You see as far as the two descriptions go they agree. We warn all God’s people of the impostors. The cause of Christ has suffered much by their satanic influence. The man affects much love, sympathy and feeling, even able to shed tears by the help of his father the devil, so as better to deceive unstable souls. His vile aspersions on the saints was very palatable food for corrupt apostates.

He claimed in Wood Co. to have come from Ba. He said his name appeared in the Trumpet, under the name of Z. R. Powell of Pa. We know that person, and do not think he has condescended to that character. Any person who can furnish us his real name, and whence he is we should like to learn it.

Look out for devils in sheep clothing, Know who men are before you give them access to the Lord’s house of worship. Remember this impostor can change his appearance by false, teeth, hair dye, etc., as well as change his name.

GO FOWARD. Ex. 14:15.

—:o:—

Dearly Beloved Saints: — In the fullness of time when God would bring His people out of Egypt. He raised up Moses; who by signs and wonders brought them to the Red sea. Where nature’s barriers encompassed them on three sides, and their enemies on the fourth; but God,s command was, “Go Foward” Ex. 14:15. And a way was opened through the sea, and the Lord brought them to the border of the promised land; but they seeing through the devil’s telescope, their faith failed, and they had to wander in the wilderness till they were taught to the Word of God. Where, Moses being dead, the Lord raised up a Saviour, Joshua who brought them safely over Jordan into the holy land, and in reading further we will see that at all times of refreshing, God anointed some man to lead His people to a higher, and better plain of experience. But at last God spoke to man by this Son and showed him a perfect way by which he could be saved; not only from past sin, but from falling away if they would abide in Him. But the natural tendency of man being downward, he soon fell into worse than Egyptian darkness till the time of restoration, spoken of by the prophets, drew nigh, where a ray of light from the Spirit of God fell across the sacred page, and illumined the heart of Martin Luther in his call, and behold he saw that it was “by faith ye are saved” and “not of work least any man should boast” — Rom. 3, 21, 28. Eph. 2:8, 9. And henceforth he began to cry out against wickedness in high places, and to preach “repentance for the remission of sins,” but there was still a higher place where the light was brighter and purer, and the Wesleys coming nigh to it, saw that “without holiness no man shaft see the Lord.” — Heb. 12:14. And they preached that through faith we do enter in the rest of the people of God. — Heb. 9:10. And the Church stepped up higher, and walked nigher with God.

But the Kings business requires haste, and God in moving foward at accelerated speed, and as the wise man says, that a three fold cord, is not quickly broken Eccl. 4, 12. So we see shortly the gathering of the three strands of justification by faith, sanctification through faith, and the oneness of God’s people with Himself, gathered into a mighty cable in our God’s hand to bind us to Him, and to each other, and this brings us to the present truth, when God is leading His Church out of bondage into the glorious liberty of the sons of God. Praise His holy name forever. Beloved keep your eyes fixed on the Lord, that you may not lose step with Him, and cause a break in the ranks, and perhaps the loss of some one for whom Christ died; and if we fall out, we may never be able to regain the lost place, and lose the reward of all our labors. It seems that I can almost see the wonderful things God has in store for His holy ones a few short years hence. For who shall dare to say, He has done all, for His Church He can do. No there are hights and depths of His love yet unfathomed. Glory to His name. Amen! Your Bro. under the blood saved, sanctified and kept by the power of God, ready to be revealed in the last days.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD

—§o§—

Cheshire, Mich.

We commenced meeting in the Collins shool-house on the 16th of March. Many who had not been out to meeting for years were in attendance. They were wonderfully convicted of their need of salvation, I but would not deny themselves, and like I up their cross and follow Christ How true are the scriptures. In the content, I we find this positive declaration: “If any I man is unwilling to lose his life in this I world, i, e., reputation, high standing in society, his idols, &c., and serve God irrepective of all men, Christ will not acknowledge him. (emphatic)”. “Many are called but few chosen,” or that will meet the stated requirements and be saved.

One man, a methodist, came to the meeting, and God’s word showed him his deficiency, spiritualy, and when he got home, he knelt down, and the Lord gave him a real experience — is his testimony. There are many calls for the Gospel near here. Pray for us.

Your humble, saved Bro.

B. E. Warren.

Dear Brethren: — Sunday, the 9th of March we commenced meeting in Hamilton Church in the name of the Lord We remained there two weeks, then went to the Lafayette Church and labored one week. The Lord was with us in love and power to the salvation of souls and refreshing of the churches in both places. On Wednesday night the 26th, about midnight the tabernacle in Lafayette took fire and was burned; the origin of the fire is unknown. We held meetings in private

houses the balance of that week then returned to the Hamilton Church and held meeting over Sunday. We had Ordinance meeting in the evening, the two churches being together. The two churches are in a very good condition. There was much rejoicing over the return of some who had wandered away. There were in all 36 different ones at the altar during the meetings at both places. The blessed Lord was in the work from first to last. Dear Bro O. E. Reeves labored in the work with us. May the good Lord ever bless, and use him in the work to the salvation of many souls Tuesday night we met the little church near Potterville, Eaton Co. at the house of Bro Wm. G. Lewis; Wednesday night and thereafter until Sunday night we held meeting at the Myer’s school house. The roads and weather were so bad that the people could not get out to meeting so that the meeting was not of much success at that place. The Church at that place was encouraged and desire to have a grove meeting this summer. May the Lord bless and keep them faithful is our prayer.

Dear Brethren: — The dear Lord bless you all. My soul is joyful in the Lord this evening I do know my feet press the everlasting rock, and Jesus gives me precious victory over all the powers of darkness. Praise our Cod who always maketh us to triumph and doeth all things well.

Our last report was from Galesburgh from there we went to Thayer a small town, 7 miles distant and commenced meeting which lasted 2 weeks. Crowds listened to the Word, and the Lord gave special anointing in delivering His truth. It was a good seedsowing time. Only a few yielded and made free. Thank God for a few honest souls that hear the bridegroom’s voice and prepare to meet Him. From thence we came to Humboldt and commenced meeting near sister Rogers. A few souls were reclaimed, and the church strengthened. Next we went 3 miles distant to hold meeting, but the weather was so bad that we just had a little meeting at Bro. Wolfe’s house, and two of their children were converted and sanctified. Praise the Lord! Truly our labors in the Lord are not in vain. The word says, “sow beside all waters.” I have never felt more led to go from house to house, find talk to the people about Jesus than now. I feel that the Lord is blessing our labor’s in that direction. It seems to me like God wants us to give the gentiles a last pressing call before they go into outer darkness. Let it be said of all God’s dear children, they have done what they could. The Kings business requires haste. What you find to do, do it with your might; let there be no sluggards in God’s vineyard, for all things in Christ is ready, and the guests are invited. Who will be present at the manage of the Lamb.

Your sister in Christ.

Meridian, Miss. April 9th 1890.

Dear Saints: — I feel led of the Lord to let you know through the Trumpet concerning the work of the Lord in this state. I will begin by giving my testimony. I was converted at the early age of eleven years; but did not unite with any of the religious denominations. After awhile I grew cold and got into a backslidden state; was reclaimed at the age of 16. Feeling it ray duty to be baptised I joined the baptist sect, although I was raised by a Methodist mother and under Methodist influence, vet I felt sure that immersion was the right way. Holiness was my idea of religion and I was hungering and thirsting after righteousness all the time. I soon became disgusted with what I saw of the religion of that day and discouraged as well. I began to preach and teach holiness when quite young but it being contrary to the faith, I had to stop, which ended in a loss of confidence in the whole thing. About six years ago Bro. A. M Kiergan and wife of Missouri came to the state of Ala. where I then lived and began a holiness meeting in which I learned it was my privilege to be sanctified wholly as a second, definite work of grace. I embraced the truth and sought the blessing. My wife was converted at the early age of 12 years, and was then in a justified state having accepted the truth, began to seek with me. We earnestly sought the one desire of our souls until we were filled with the love of God I was sanctified in April, and wife was sanctified in June 1885. Being called to the ministry I began to preach whenever I had a chance. I was surprised at the abundant entrance the Lord opened for me to preach His word: It was not long until I found the Lord claimed all my time. I was afflicted and in debt, and felt it my duty to work and pay my debts and then I would have been willing to give all my time to the work of the Lord, but I was impressed to give my whole time to the ministry, so I sold my possessions, paid my debts, and entered the vineyard as an evangelist. I came to Miss. in the fall of 1886. Wife and I began work for the master with others. There was not over 50, I think in the state Who testified to sanctification, God blessed our labors from the first. Now Holiness is being preached in a good portion of the state, and many precious souls have the experience of entire sanctification My whole time is now given to the Lord and He is still blessing my labors. He having given me strength to work almost day and night. We have many trials and hard battles to fight, and the work has been hindered, but I believe the Lord will give us victory in the future as He has in the past. I have ever believed in one Lord, one faith one baptism, the Lord showed me both by the Word, and His Spirit that immersion was right. I have never been able to practice any other mode. I have borne some trials, even among professors of holiness, on this account, and also because I hold to feet washing. We have a great many holiness people in the south, who believe in immersion as the only mode of baptism practiced by the Apostles, and a goodly number of our preachers will not baptize any other way, and a great many of us believe in feet washing because the Master said, we ought to do it, and we are sure all true christians are willing to do all the Master tells them to do, it not they are above Him as He says. The work is still moving on, and many precious souls are seeing eye to eye, and speaking the one and the same thing. I feel sure the Lord has led me to the stand, I have taken on the ordinances, and by His grace I expect to be firm to the end. Oh I am so thankful He showed me what was right before I baptized any one, praise the Lord. It has been some time since some unknown persons sent me a copy of the Gospel Trumpet. I met Bro. John Shanks, who sent the Trumpet to me. I have received several copies since, all of which I am well pleased. Oh the bright testimonies are a feast to my soul. Let us pray for each other that we may abide at His coming.

Antwerp Ohio. March, 27 1890.

Dear Saints: — May the riches of God’s grace, and glory rest upon you all, Amen!

The Lord wrought a precious work at Auburn. The Lord so graciously helped in presenting the truth, which the Spirit of God applied to the hearts of the people. The saints were greatly strengthened, much established in the Lord. There were about ten or eleven consecrations, most of whom were backsliders. Oh what rejoicing in the family of God, as the Heavenly Shepherd came, bringing the wanderers home. Much good was done for the cause, hallelujah! There were also some precious, and glorious cases of healing. Mother Tripp who first consecrated her all, was gloriously headed from a severe affliction caused by a disease which she had for years; after receiving the victory, she administered to the wants of those present. Mother Morse was joyfully saved and sanctified. After laying on of hands in the name of the Lord. She arose from her bed, walked about in the room clapping her hands, and praising God, then she walked out into the kitchen which she had not done for 4 years, Oh bless the Lord. Also mother Lutz was justified through grace. She had been quite crippled by rheumatism, also claimed her healing by faith, after which walked more erect and perfect than she had done before. Oh may God richly bless them and keep their faith, that it fail not, amen! Another wonderful deliverance wrought by the power of God, was the deliverance of dear Bro. G. Lalmum’s little child 5 years of age from a host of evil spirits, which were cast out of her by the laying on of hands in the name of Jesus. It was the most wonderful deliverance from evil spirits which I have seen in our labors in the Gospel. It reminded us of Mark. 9:17, to 29. Hallelujah! There were other cases of healing. Bless the Lord.

We had a precious ordinance meeting in which 23 saints participated. The Lord bless and reward the saints, and father McClellan for their kindness, whose house was our hospitable home. At the close of the Auburn meeting dear father McClellan brought us to this place, where I we are at present. The Lord wrought a glorious work here since we came.

Pray for us, your fully saved Bro.

F. N. Jacobson.

Payne O. April 11th 1890.

Dear Brethren: — God bless you all, Amen. From Mechanicsville, we went to Henderson Pa. where we commenced a meeting in the name of the Lord. The roads were very muddy during the most of the meeting yet the night meetings were well attended considering every thing; but the day meetings there were few that attended them. Nevertheless there were a few saved during the meeting. I believe there were two converted and about five or six sanctified and to God be all the glory for ever. We went to Hazzard Pa. and held meeting for a few evenings with good effect and then returned to Henderson and on the Lord’s day in the evening we held ordinance services in the hall. There were about thirty- five of the dear saints present who engaged in the services. God bless them all-  Amen. On Monday morning we left for Payne, O. at which place, we arrived on the following day and found Bro. Freddie Jacobson engaged in a protracted meeting with the saints. God bless their labors for Jesus sake. We expect to wait at Payne for a short time or at least until we get orders from Headquarters to march on. Praise the Lord! Pray for us. Yours in the love of Christ.

SOLID CERTAINTIES IN CHRIST.

—‡o‡—

Amid all the disappointments of this world, none have been disappointed in Jesus Christ. Our cisterns of enjoyment often become broken cisterns; Our little wells dry up and vanish away; but who ever saw the fathomless ocean run low? O the depth of the riches of wisdom, knowledge and grace in Jesus! “Of His fullness have we all received”: said that disciple who leaned on His bosom at the feast of love. John was never disappointed in his Master, nor was Paul when he found himself filled unto all the fullness of God. There is a fullness of power in Him who is able to save to the uttermost, and a fullness of love in him who loveth his own ransomed flock unto the end. All the sinners in this universe cannot exhaust the infinite supply which Christ both in store for us. We cannot ask too much or too often from Christ. Nay; He must take it ill we ask so little, and then with such a hesitating faith. Open your mouth and I will fill it. “Whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do”. These are imperial promises; and the only limitations are in the infinite wisdom which decides just what he ought to give, and what he ought to withhold. Christ must wonder at our feeble faith and stammering hesitations, in presenting requests to Him who loveth to be inquired of. My soul, wait thou only upon God for all my expectations are from Him. Paul realized his own splendid heirship, and drew large drafts on the inexhaustible treasury. “I know whom I have believed’’ gave to Paul faith and kept the sunshine of assurance playing on the old furrowed face. After he had tested his Lord for more than 30 years, he summed up his glorious experience in these words. “I have finished my course; I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the righteous judge shall give me in that day”. The veteran apostle had never been dissapointed in Christ’s service, its joys, its toils or its rewards, he knew that he never would be. He felt just as certain of heaven as he did of the morrow’s rising sun. So should we, if we have given ourselves to Christ, and aimed to follow Him honestly in the spirit of obedience.

Salvation is not guess work. If I have given myself into the hands of Christ, I ought to feel confident that no man or devil could pluck me out of these omnipotent hands. I confidently expect that through faith I shall be kept by the power of God unto salvation. I expect that when I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, His rod and staff shall- comfort me. I look forward to an hour when poor imperfect sinner as I was, am become like Him, and shall see Him as He is. I have not seen any body who has seen heaven, no more than I have seen any body who has seen next week, but they are both coming. I feel sure if I hold fast to Christ, He will bring me into His father’s home and show me its indescribable pleasure. I confidently expect to find there a joy that shall be to me a harp, and a triumph that shall be to me a palm, and a reward that shall be an unfading crown. Whether these words used by the inspired John are figurative or not, makes no difference. If they represent figures of speech, they are solid certainties.

Our knowledge of that life is small,
The mortal eye so dim;
But ’tis enough that Christ knows all,
And we shall be like Him.

THE SUICIDES MANUSCRIPT.

An avowed infidel, whose language and conduct had been most profane, and who had boldy argued for man’s right to kill himself when he found it expedient, swallowed a quantity of opium, which put an end to his life. Among his papers, was found on which was written: “I have this moment swallowed a vial of tincture of opium, consequently, my life will be but short. Whether there he a heaven or hell, I leave parsons to divine.” The part of the manuscript which followed was blotted, and concluded thus: “My hand trembles, my eyes grow dim, I can see to write no more; but he that would be happy should be religious.”

Dear Saints: — Praise the Lord oh my soul. The Lord keeps me sweetly saved all the time; praise His holy name for ever! Four years ago last fall, the Lord healed my body. I love the Lord, and all His dear children, and am in the Church of the first-born. The Lord took me out of babylon, and babylon out of me, and I am walking in this evening light, saved and sanctified.

Dear Trumpet Reapers: — May the dear Lord bless you, and keep you sweetly saved in Jesus. I feel led by the Lord this evening to write a few lines to the Trumpet. I do praise God for this blessed salvation, that keeps me from all sin, and makes us complete in Christ. I have complete victory over the world, flesh and the devil, praising my dear Savior for this sweet peace in my soul, which the world cannot give neither can it take it away. I do realize this evening that I am dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God. Reigning in this life by one Jesus Christ. O I do bless the Lord that I sought Him in my youth and found Him very precious indeed to my soul. It has been 3 years I since I started to serve Jesus. I am not tired of the way yet, and by the grace of God I expect to serve Him all my life. Why should we not serve Him when He careth so much for us, and the way is so easy and so plain. Praise God, His yoke is easy, His burden is light. Pray for me that I may be true to God and do my duty in all things. Your sister saved and sanctified to do the will of God.

Dear Trumpet READERs: — Through the providence of my Father in heaven the Trumpet came to my hands, for which I gave thanks and took courage. My testimony is that I am saved to the uttermost and under the all cleansing blood of Jesus. Having made my escape from spiritual babylon and confusion that is in the world through lust. Glory to God! There is a little company of us here who are out on the highway of holiness; and they see the sins of the different sects, and some have made their escape, while others think to reform the divisions in the body of Christ. O what great darkness over the face of all the earth.

Pray for us. Your saved Bro.

Beloved Saints of God: — With a great deal of pleasure and interest I read a few papers of the Gospel Trumpet which was loaned me by sisters Lydia and Lottie Wressel. As I attended a protracted meeting this winter at this place, I got a deep interest for the salvation of my soul. I know and feel that I am justified from sin, but since I have examined the Word of God, I still feel that I have just commenced the work of salvation. I praise God for the glimmer of light He has shown me by His Word and a few of the saints. I pray to God for that satisfying portion that my soul is so hungering and thirsting for. I have promised God to consecrate myself as soon as I can avail myself of the opportunity. I am just commencing to realize how much God has done for me. May God bless and keep you all holy is my prayer.

Dearly Beloved Saints: — Christ says, “Ye are my witnesses,” and it is to witness for Him that I irate thishoping it may encourage some of the dear saints to walk out on God’s promises, and trust for the healing of the body. I was saved many years ago, was a member of the Presbyterian sect, and having lived up to all the light I had, but hearing the saints preach that the Bible was all the creed or discipline we needed I readily accepted the light; took Christ as all and in all, and the Word of God as my only guide. God has been learning me lessons of faith all along for the last two years. I have been healed by the laying on of hands in Christ name, of a bad stomach difficulty caused by lead poisoning; and later, of a trouble of the brain pronounced by a physician, the beginning of apoplexy which I accidentially met. But God still meant to try my faith. About 4 weeks ago I was taken with the LaGrippe in a mild form at first, but of a relapse of lung trouble, brought me very low, so that, neighbors and friends thought I would not recover. I was soon led to think of the command in. — James 5:14, 15. and sent for Bro. and sister E. Eldridge who anointed me, laying on hands and praying, the prayer of faith at the same time. Bro. E. received a wonderful blessing, as the evidence that his prayer was answered, and I just left it with the Lord, knowing His promise never fails. And He has healed me and brought me back to health; to Him be all the glory. I feel that I am consecrated to do His will more than ever, and my heart yearns to be the means of saving souls. May the Lord bless all the dear saints and keep them humble, willing to take any place that will glorify Him, even if it be through suffering.

Your sister in Christ.

Dear Saints of God: — My testimony for Jesus is that He saves me now. I feel that His blood washes whiter than snow. The Lord is teaching me to walk in the clear light. O glory be to His name! It is so much better than the Egyptian darkness which I have walked in the most of my life for the want of sanctified teachers to keep me in the way. But I thank God that I have had the happiness of being led to the light by a few of God’s chosen ones who have never sought for light out side of God’s word, as too many of the teachers do, asking light at the altar of baal, instead of tarrying at Jerusalem for the endowment of power from on high. I feel that it is woe, woe, to such blind guides who are deceiving the people all over the land. My prayer is that there may be spiritual leaders raised up every where, and that the light may so shine that the blind guides may be rejected by the people, and that the chariot of salvation may roll on in majesty, crushing the powers of iniquity. He keeps my soul tranquil and unmoved through the rough storms and tempests that are raging all around. Jesus can calm the troubled soul as easy as when on earth with his disciples when he calmed the stormy deep. O come to Him ye tempest tossed ones who are tired of sin, and tell Jesus all your sorrow, and ask Him to cleanse your hearts and fill you with His spirit; He will do it, and enable you to walk before Him without one blot or stain. His blood washes whiter than snow. Do not doubt Him for a moment but look to Him for the cleansing power.

Dear Beloved Trumpet Readers: — May the Lord bless and keep you all. I feel like writing a little of my experience in this great salvation of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I was called of the Lord 27 years ago, and found pence to my soul. Oh it was such a glorious peace in my soul. I went on serving the Lord as best I knew, but not going on unto perfection, I drifted into a form and served the vain trifling things of earth; the love of the world came in, and I thought I had a degree of salvation, but all this time I did not want the blessing of sanctification, and did not have any teaching on the subject; but attended meetings regular. I was a methodist, but praise God, I never was much of a sectarian. I loved all Christians, and I believe that was how God could lead me out of babylon. Oh when I look at the past, I wonder that God could save such a proud sinner as I was, decked in feathers and flowers and gold, but praise the Lord I am saved from all these things.” A few years ago a dear sister died, and it seemed to drive me to God, and one day as I was at my work, a voice seemed to say, if you do not improve the talent you have, I will take it from you, and give to him that hath. ”And the thought came, you must go on unto perfection” There I became willing to seek the blessing of sanctification; soon after that there came a lady into this place to hold a meeting, or help the preacher in charge. And she invited the membership to come to seek the great blessing of full salvation, and I was one of the first to go. I was praying for a my clean heart, and one day as I lead in prayer the Lord came in great power and glory, and saved soul. I did not know whether I received sanctification, or regeneration but in a few days the Lord showed me my life and told me where I was; I was regenerated I had continual peace within my soul, and all my pride had to go. I went right for the cleansing, and afterwards received the all-cleansing power. And was filled with the Holy Ghost. Oh praise God! I had never heard any teaching on that, but the Lord was my teacher. Bless His holy name, and so He leads me on, and on, receiving gifts. He gave me the gift of healing. Oh praise the Lord, or complete salvation. Well I began telling the world of the things of the so-called church, and after a while the preacher came, and told me to stay away. I told them I saw every man clearly, and told them they were blind formalists. Well the preacher told me to stay out of his meeting. And nil began to bate me so, I stayed away for a while, but their meeting died, then the preacher came back to ask forgiveness, and asked me to come back, so I went. Al-  this time did not know that God had a Church on earth of pure saints Soon after the saints came to a village, not far away, and I went, my husband and I saw that they were all saved. We were one in Christ Oh praise God. I had found a home. I have never been in a meeting in that sect house since with babylon. But how my heart yearns for the lost souls. Blind leaders of the blind. I do not get to meeting often, but God is my keeping power. He rules and reigns in my heart. I feel that I have a work to do in the vineyard of the Lord. I am growing in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour. I am persecuted on all sides. This is an awful dark wilderness. My prayer is that God may send some one to preach the Gospel to this people.

Your sister saved and all redeemed through the blood,

Dear Saints of God: — I feel that it it my duty to testify for the Lord. I praise God that He has delivered me from babylon, for I was just ready to join the progressive sect. I have been healed by His power, I take much pleasure in reading the Gospel Trumpet. Your sister not yet sanctified wholly, but I ask the prayers of God’s children that I may be in the future.

Dear Brethren In Christ: — I do praise the Lord this day for salvation, and how He saves me just now. The Lord hears and answers our prayers, and delivers us from all the powers of satan. The lion of Judah shall break every chain. Where the blood of Jesus is applied, the bands of satan break; Jesus says, “The kingdom of heaven is like ten virgins that went out to meet the bridegroom, five of them were wise and five were foolish. The wise took oil in their vessels, but the foolish took no oil in their vessels, and they could not enter in to the marriage supper of the Lamb. Just so there are many to-day that have been born into the kingdom, but have lost the grace out of their souls. The devil has robbed them. May God help all the saints to see that they have the oil of grace in their souls.

Your humble Bro. saved and sanctified in the blood of Jesus.

Dear Brethren In Christ: — I do praise the Lord for an everlasting salvation and for the keeping power of God. We learn that He is light, and in Him is no darkness at all, and if we walk in the light (Word) as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin. Well I do praise the Lord for what He is doing for me. He says, in my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. — John 14:2. Now my Father’s house must be God’s house: the pillar and ground of the truth. — 1 Tim. 8:15. And God has set some in the Church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healing, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. — 1 Cor. 12:28. In whom ye also are builded together for a habitation of God through the Spirit — Eph. 2:22. Ye also as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house a holy priesthood to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable unto God by Jesus Christ — 1 Pet 2:5 Amen!

Dear Trumpet Readers: — May the Lord bless you all. O praise God! I am saved by the mighty power of God just now, and sanctified by a second work of grace Praise God for salvation from all sin. Dear Trumpet Readers: — I want to give my testimony for the Lord, I gave my heart to God and made a public profession when I was 14 years old. I then lived in New Hampshire. I was sprinkled when I was seven years old, and I always thought I had been baptized, until the Lord sanctified me, then for the first time in my life I was troubled on the subject of baptism. I went to see our pastor, (he is the leader of our holiness meeting,) and told him I was not satisfied on baptism, and asked him if he thought I ought to be immersed. He said, “you must study your Bible, and pray earnestly to the Lord, and He will show you your duty. I went home and did study my Bible, as I had never studied it before. It seemed to me that almost every time I opened my Bible I read these words. “And Jesus when He was baptised, went up straightway out of the water.” — Matt. 3:16. I knew then, that I had never been baptized. I wanted to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, I thank God that I had the privilege on the 8th of Sept 1889, of going down, into the river at Canton Dak., and that there I was baptised. That day was the happiest day of my life.

My testimony to-day is that I am saved and sanctified. One year ago the first day of last Aug. I went to the holiness meeting at Canton Dak. I went there with the full determination that I would never leave that house, until I received the blessed sanctification. Our pastor and his wife were sanctified, and they gave us their testimony again and again. Oil, my dear brothers and sisters, how those testimonies troubled me then. I knew that I was not fully saved, and at that holiness meeting, I consecrated myself wholly to the Lord, and while the dear brothers and sisters were praying earnestly for me, the Lord sanctified me. Yes, I am wholly the Lord’s, and will work for Him as long as I live. Glory to God! Hallelujah!

Dear Saints In Christ: — To-day finds us saved and kept by the power of God. O how we do praise God for salvation from sin just now. We do praise God that we are free from seet babylon, and we are saved from tea, coffee and tobacco. The dear Lord cleansed us from all. 0 this river of peace, makes us perfect and whole, yet its blessings increase flowing deep in our souls. We do praise God that we are dead to the world and its pleasures, our affections are centered above; where we own such a wonderful treasure, tis a home in the city of love. Oh how blessed to know that we have Jesus for our Savior. We have much opposition and the power of the enemy is strong, but praise the Lord, who giveth us the victory over all. Pray for us that we may be kept by the Lord faithful to the end, and ready to do the Master’s will.

Dear Saints In Christ: — Mercy and peace be multiplied unto you continually. It has been a long time since I have written my testimony; but I can say of a truth that I am saved and kept by the mighty power of God, without sin unto salvation ready to be revealed at the coming of Christ my Lord. O glory to His blessed holy name for saving my soul, and for the way He has kept me the past year. I know not where to begin all the praise due to His excellent name. 24 years ago God for the sake of His dear Son pardoned my sins, and six years ago He sanctified my soul I truly feel like the queen of Sheba when she came to see Solomon. The half has never yet been told, of love so full and free. O wond’rous grace, O joy sublime! I’ve Jesus with me all the time. I can say of a truth, that the past year has been a grand year to my soul. My tongue can never tell of all His goodness and mercy to me. In every trial, and every conflict He gives me victory. O glory hallelujah to His precious name forever and ever. This is an awful dark corner of the earth; some are aroused up and are begining to see the danger they are in. O may the dear Lord send some awakening angel through this place before too late is my prayer. O dear ones there is one you cannot deceive. O for the sake of your never dying souls, be true to God; for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 0 how many there are to-day that profess holiness and sanctification, and if they are tried a little, a true saint can easily see where they are. Dear ones be true to God, if all the world should turn against you. Remember it is not the world that will judge you, but a just judge one that will not condemn the innocent, nor let the guilty go free. O it is awful to think of any one in this glorious evening light bringing a reproach on the cause of God, and hedge up the way of life and salvation. Well I can truly say, I am abiding in the vine of which my Father is the husbandman. Amen!

Dear Saints In Christ: — I feel led of the Lord to write my testimony. I am praising God for the salvation of my soul, that keeps me each moment. Oh! I am so glad that the Lord is able to keep us from all sin. Praise the name of the Lord! There is enough in the precious blood of Jesus to cleanse from the least and last remains of sin. This is the will of God, even your sanctification. I am glad it is the will of God for us to be sanctified in this world and that we have joy and peace, both in this world and in the world to come. For the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,. etc,, against such there is no law. Praise God for it satisfying portion in Jesus Isa. 55:7, says let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts and let him return unto the Lord and He will have mercy upon him. Our God will abundantly pardon, I have obeyed this command. I went to the Lord who bad mercy, and to our God who did abundantly pardon. Blessed be the name of the Lord! The Lord of my salvation is able to save to the uttermost, all those that will come unto him; for God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. Praise God for the experience He has given me; for truly the blessings of heaven does rest upon me. As I have received Christ Jesus the Lord, I intend to walk in Him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith. I praise God for His blessed Word for it is so sweet to my soul. I have the rejoice evermore in my soul, and the very God of peace sanctifies me wholly soul, body, mind and spirit, pray for me that I may be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Your sister saved and under the all atoning blood,

Dear Trumpet Readers In Christ: — I feel led of God to tell my experience. I am saved just now and feel the fire of God burning in my soul to-night, and am free from all sectarianism. I have been standing here idle until the eleventh hour, but now I feel the Lord calling me to work in His vineyard. God’s Word says, go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature. Now I feel led to go east and I think the Lord will open the way this spring for me. I want the dear saints to pray for me and my three children. I praise God for what He has done for me. I went to the Galesburg meeting last fall with the rheumatism, so bad that I had to walk with a cane, and was wonderfully healed of the Lord on the 15th of Oct. So I have had no trouble of that kind since. Your Bro. saved, and ready to be revealed at the last day.

Dear Saints Greeting: — I feel led of the Lord to write and tell you God’s dealing with me. About 30 years ago the Lord spoke peace to my soul. I knelt down to pray and as I was praying the Lord filled me with His glory, and put praises in my month. The next evening, I went to meeting, but thought I would not tell any one what the Lord had done for me. I took my seat with the sinners. During payer I knelt, and the first I knew I was up by the pulpit shouting, and telling them all about it; so you see we cannot hide our light under a bushel; for he that heareth in secret will reward us openly. But not knowing the Word of God, I joined different sects and lived in them until God showed me the corruptness of them. God was always with me when I walked to please Him. I never felt satisfied in these sects, and I was reading in the Bible where it teaches that we shall not fashion our selves with the world; and then I would go to meeting, and see the professers of religion, dress and act like the world’ and I could not understand it. Bro. and sister Basore gave me some light on the Bible. I felt anxious to go and hear the saints preach. I went, and God gave me wonderful light, and I came out of all sects, and took a hold stand for God. It has been about four years, and I have been perfectly satisfied ever since, for Jesus is all and in all to me. He heals both soul and body, and gives me peace and joy continually. If any one reads this that arc bound up in sin or sects, pray earnestly to God for deliverance, and He will hear you and give you a witness that He accepts you.

Dear Brethren of the Trumpet and Saints of God: — I praise God for full and free salvation which brings me into fellowship with the Father and His Son. Jesus Christ, and gives us fellowship one with another, while walking in the light as He is in the light. Praise His name! Oh how the peace of God like a mighty river flows through our souls, while we walk calmly and joyfully along the way, led by the Spirit of God, and by faith beholding the hand of God moving for our good in every circumstance in life. Wife and I are here alone in a part of the country, where full salvation has not been taught. I have been holding up the pure Word, and some seem to be convinced of its truth, and of the error of sectish teaching, which they have been hearing. We would be glad to have some of God’s fire baptized ministers to come and help in the Lord’s work here. Can not some of you who are laboring within reach of here come? I am working in the coal mine at present, but expect the Lord willing to start to labor in the work of the Lord about the 1st of May and possibly a little sooner as the Lord may prosper. We would be pleased if it is the will of the Lord to have one or two holy Ghost baptized persons to accompany us to help in singing. The Lord has blessed me with a good team of ponies, and a light spring wagon which can be made comfortable for carrying four persons. I will be glad to hear from any one in the near future, who may be led of the Lord in this direction. God bless the brethren in the field, and make them swift and strong messengers for the truth, and may many precious souls be saved through their labours. How my soul is made to rejoice, and praise God as I read in the Trumpet of how the Lord is blessing the labours of His little ones, and also the testimonies of the dear ones who are being saved. Let the dear saints remember us in prayer to God, that He may manifest His power through us in the salvation of souls, and His name be glorified in us.

Your sanctified brother all on the altar for Jesus.

Dear Saints of the most high God: — I do thank God for salvation that saves from all sin. I am so thankful He ever called after me, as I was going the downward road, and saved my soul. Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. I am so thankful that we have a Saviour that saves from sin. For His Word says in. — Rom. 8:36. If the Son therefore shall make you free ye shall be free indeed. And in verse 32 reads like this. And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. So you see we must live free from all sin in this world. For His Word says in. Matt. 5:48. Be ye there fore perfect even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. So you see we must be pure in this life if we expect to get to heaven. Praise the Lord: I feel happy in my soul. I realize that I am as free, as the birds that fly in the air. God is leading me by His Holy Spirit every day. I am ready for Christ’s coming at any time.

Dear Brethren: — I feel led of the Spirit to write our testimony. We are sweetly saved in Jesus this evening. Oh glory to God and the Lamb forever and ever. Oh I am so glad that the Lord ever delivered me from the bondage of sin. He has cleansed us from all sin, swept and garnished the temple pure and clean’ and we know that the Spirit of God dwells within: for “behold He has become the horn of our salvation.” Bless the Lord oh my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Who forgives all thine iniquities, who healeth all thy diseases. He is our great physician, and gives us life everlasting, and floods our poor heart with pure joy unspeakable, and full of glory. Oh Father forbid that one of these little children should leave or turn from the side of a bleeding Saviour who bowed His bead, and died to redeem us from sin. I pray God to continually be as mountains of strength to us, that we can run swiftly and mightly the race that is before us, and receive the crown that is laid up for those who continually serve Him in Spirit and in truth. Pray for us that we may be faithful to the end. We are saved and sanctified to do His will in all things.

Dear Saints In Christ: — I do praise God this morning for what He has done for me in the past year, through all the troubles and trials that I have had to endure. He has been so near and dear to me, and has kept me sweetly saved trusting in Him for all things. Praise His holy name forever and ever I always expect to stand for my blessed Saviour, and hold up the cause of Christ through evil report, as well as good report. Bless His name; I want to say to the glory of God, that I am out of the sect and the sect spirit out of me. How good it is to stand free, and complete in all of the will of God. It makes me feel sorrowful, when I see those that once enjoyed the blessing of God, and by looking at the imperfections of others, are falling back into the things of this world. Oh dear ones let all who profess to know the will of God, let us keep an eye single to the glory of God, and measure ourselves on the Bible line, and see if our daily walk and conversation is in the order of the Lord. But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation: Because it is written, be ye holy; for I am holy. — 1 Peter. 1:15, 16.

Praise the Lord for His blessed Word, it is food for my soul. I have been pervented from going to meeting for some time, on account of sickness’ but the Lord was with me, He took care of my soul, and healed my body. Oh hallelujah to God and the Lamb forever. I feel this world has no charms for me. I have forsaken all to follow Jesus; my daily prayer is that the Lord will keep me low, and humble always doing His will in all things, and by God’s assisting grace I mean to prove faithful unto the end. Well, pray for God to keep our feet upon the cornerstone. “We’ll give our hearts and lives to Him, for we are not our own.”

Ilion,

Dear Saints: — I do praise God that He still saves and keeps me, and shows me His glorious light, and I am willing to become anything or nothing for Christ’s sake. There are but few saints here, but I do pray God that He may send more of His holy ministers here to preach the Word. Bro’s Leininger and Gast came here and held a meeting in the name of the Lord, and it has made a deep impression upon the hearts of the people; many are wanting them to come back. They have sown much good seed and we hope they, or other ministers of God, may come and reap the harvest for the Lord. We want all the saints to pray for us that we may ever stand firm. Dear Brethren: — I am saved just now from all sin. Praise the name of Jesus. The Lord has healed my body, a number of times. A short time ago I was very much afflicted, and the tempter tried to make me believe, I would have to get the doctor but instead of obeying him, I went ten miles to where sister Cole was holding meeting, and she anointed me and laid on hands in the name of the Lord, and I was healed, for which I give God all the glory.

I am saved from tea and coffee, and from babylon. Yours in Christ.

He closed his eyes in deep repose,
And angel’s bore him home;
To dwell where life much sweeter flowes:

The silent tomb inclosed his form:
But, he has gone to rest,
In brighter mansions free from harm,
With all the pure and blest.

The Saviour smiles to see him there,
On Eden’s vernal shore;
Sweet heaven’s paradise to share,
And dwell for evdrmore.

Well reap with him, our great reward,

This cord of love a tender tie,

Yet, ..e, with mortals here, must die,
And from this sphere depart.

But happy thought, oh, we shall meet,
Where parting is no more;
Where death can never separate
