Throwing Ink at the Devil.

—:o:—

Then I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a flying roll. And he said unto me, What seest thou? And I answered, I see a flying roll; the length thereof is twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof ten cubits. Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it. I will bring it forth, saith the Lord of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof. — Zech. 5:1-4.

At Whitenburg there sat a Son of Thunder
Dealing Heaven’s Dynamite.
When lo! before him ’peared an apparition –
Fury threatening demon sight.

The piercing words of truth, so long besmothered,
Flashed the burning wrath upon
The devil’s patent monk and pope religion
Who confronts the dread reform.

A thousand years of stupid chains of darkness
Bound the devil in his pit.
His creeds and bulls held fast the world in bondage
Leaving him at leisure sit.

That thousand years, thought yet to come in babel —
Fancy pictured reign of peace —
Passed, while the souls of martyrs, ’neath the altar
Waited till this evening grace.

While earth groped on in darkest superstition,
Ruled by cassock, cowl, and priest,
Few souls had life for satan’s bent to slaughter,
Chaining him from wanted feast.

But with the early gleams of reformation,
He in person re-appears
His int’rest trusted not to deputation,
Quickly breaks the thousand years.

Before the dauntless, lion-hearted Luther
Forth the hellish monster stood,
Drawn from his poison by the scattering thesis
’Gainst the Romish viper brood.

He lifting up his eyebrows knit with thunder,
To the hellish spectre said
With stern-address, ‘‘DO BIST DEN WARD TIVEL,”
Hurls an inkstand at his head.

How potent proved the Doctor’s splattering missile,
Hist’ry leaves us no memoir.
But ink he threw on paper at the devil,
Battered down his kingdom more.

Still on in mercy moved the Great Eternal,
Re-instating Heaven’s truth;
Long fallen in the filthy streets of babel,
Trampled under foot, forsooth.

A season passed of mingled light and darkness,
Counted neither day nor night.
With each reform break in more gleams of brightness
Loosing satan more to light.

But now at last the fogs and mists are scattered,
And the sanctuary purged.
The hidings of the devil thus demolished
By the hail he’s sorely scourged

The dragon forced to open field of battle,
Driven from his final trench,
Cannot throw up another line of babel,
Thence from storm of truth to flinch.

He would, ’tis true whitewash his sect divisions
Pass them for the holy bride.
But truth uncaps the wicked corporations,
And her founder cannot hide.

The light reveals her blood in every quarter,
And she’s strewn with dead men’s bones;
Remains of souls that long have fed her slaughter
Hell with many a victim groans.

Thus chafed to anger like a beast of fury,
When denied a skulking den,
And tantalized by thunderbolts of fire,
Satan writhed within his pen.

At last he breaks the chains of self possession
Doth his best, what time he hath.
Well knowing that he’s but a little season,
Comes he forth in utmost wrath.

Now loosed, his imps o’er all this earth are swarming;
But retreating t’ward the brink,
Driven back by truth in thunder rolling,
And the rapid flying ink.

Not as did the sturdy Whittenburger
Fling his inkstand at the foe,
But by the mighty force of steam, much faster
We the battle ink can throw.

At a point where two lightning tracks lay crossing,
Northward, southward, east, and west,
God has planted there a Campbell Howitzer
Firing ink at Satan’s head.

This enginery by modern skill constructed,
Hath a strong capacious fount,
Whence ink, by rollers to and fro conducted,
Into ammunition count.

The ink rolls o’er ten thousand silent voices,
All in rank and file complete;
When touched, each one prepares His triumph for
But refraining, tells the sheet. (sounding,

The sheets borne round by cylindric motion,
Take the types impressive kiss,
Inspiring them with love and truth’s great mission,
Sin to smite, and never miss.

Not only t’ward the main fourwinds of Heaven,
Sin consuming ink is shot;
But right and left in force, ’tis outward given,
Striking blows in every spot.

When round “Mansole” Emmanuel plants his army,
To retake the famous town,
On “eye-gate” hill He plants this mighty engine,
Till surrendered to His crown.

If chance a pilgrim’s shield of faith is drooping,
And his heart with fear oppressed;
Then comes this ink-winged angel trumpet sounding,
And his soul anew is blest. Amen!

THE END OF THE PRESENT DISPENSATION.

—:o:—

“WATCH, therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.” When this glorious thought of the second personal coming of Christ, dwells in our hearts, it fills us with joy, peace, and happiness unspeakable and full of glory. For we know He is coming to gather home His elect; and that we are ready to meet Him, having salvation in our souls, which makes us “pure even as He is pure.” The second coming of Christ will be the “hour in which all that are in the graves shall hear His voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good unto the resurrection of life: and they that have done evil unto the resurrection of damnation.” — John 5:28-30. In this we see that both the righteous and unrighteous shall be brought forth from the dead, some to life everlasting, some to eternal misery and woe. I charge ye therefore, before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and kingdom, that ye watch and ever be prepared to meet Jesus when He shall make His second advent upon earth: for “that day and hour the Father only knoweth.” Of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of Heaven, but my Father only. — Matt. 24:36. Therefore it is necessary for us ever to be ready, and to keep on the whole armor of God; for, “if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered hi3 house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.— 24: 43, 44. If we were to live a Christian life until one day, or even one hour before we were called before the Great Judge with a righteous judgment, and then lose our salvation, it would profit us nothing. O let us, who are saved, ever look to Jesus who is the author and finisher of our faith. And he shall send his angels with a great- sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. Now learn a parable of the fig tree; when his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh; so likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the door. — Matt. 24:31-33. But what shall come to pass before the end? In the eleventh verse of this same chapter, he says, “That many false prophets shall rise and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come, verse 12-14. Already these two passages, we have seen fulfilled; for many false teachers are present in the world to-day, who are preaching their false doctrine to cover up their sins; and many are being deceived and led astray, who have departed from the true faith; “and for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie. That they all might be damned who believe not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. — 2 Thess. 2:11, 12. Even so, the love of many have become cold. Also the other verse is being fulfilled. The Gospel of the kingdom is being preached to all nations, some have not yet heard, but the glorious news of God’s Divine Word is spreading very rapidly, “then shall the end be.”

“This know, also, that in the last days perilous times, (trying times, Greek) shall come; for men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affections, truce-breakers, false accusers, incontinent fierce, despisers of those that do good, traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God.” This, all, we see fulfilled to-day. It is dangerous times and there will nothing but the grace of God enable as to stand.

We will now notice one more sign which shall be before the last days. In Luke 21:24. we read: “For Jerusalem — the literal city which is located in Asia — shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the time of the Gentiles be fulfilled. Also in Rom. 11:25, “that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.” May God let you who doubt Christ’s near coming, see and know that these two passages of God’s inspired Word are being fulfilled. In Luke 21:27, after speaking of the fulness of the Gentiles and the returning of the Jews, he says, “And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear:”) Thus the Jews should not dwell in Jerusalem during the time that the Gospel should be specially blessed to the Gentiles, and we now see that the Gentile race are rejecting the Holy Spirit, while the eyes of the long blinded Jews, are being opened; and Jerusalem, is fast becoming an Israelite city. Thus the mighty work of God is moving along. O my God! my God! we do feel that the time is short, for poor Gentile sinners to receive Christ as their Savior. “Yea, a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.” There remaineth but a few gleanings and then the harvest will be over. As we think of the awful condition of the Gentile sinner — the multitudes and multidudes who are yet unsaved, and how few there are who accept the Holy Spirit of God, — and then think how near their time is at a close, it makes us weep. May God save their souls. And let us who have been made whole, redeemed and purified, “watch, and pray,” “for if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.” O sinner repent and turn to God before it is too late; “For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble; and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.” — Mal. 4:1. Again “the Lord preserveth all them that love him, but all the wicked will he destroy.” After the second personal coming of Christ, there will be no chance for repentance; and all those who are not found written in the Lamb’s book of life, shall be cast away into outer darkness, from the presence of God forever, where there shall be weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth. Therefore let all nations prepare to meet God, for He cometh to take vengeance on them that know not God and have not kept His Word. John says: Behold, he cometh with clouds: and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, amen. — Rev. 1:7.

As the lightening cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. — Matt. 24:27. There will be none but what shall see Him. O what an awful day to those who are unsaved; for, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” He that is unjust, let him be unjust still; and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still; and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still; and he that is holy, let him be holy still. — Rev. 22:11, 12. There will be no time for calling on Him for salvation, after His appearing; but he that is unsaved, let him be unsaved still; and he that is pure, let him be pure still. Thus they all shall appear before the judgment bar of God, to be judged with a righteous judgment; and whosoever shall be ashamed of me and my words, in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels. — Mark. 8:38. Therefore prepare to meet God, and ye shall have right to the tree of life, and shall enter in through the gates into the city, and shall go no more out forever. “He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly, Even so, come, Lord Jesus, Amen.”

GOD’S “ELECT:” OR (‘FOR-ORDINATION.’)

—:o:—

Root text — Matt. 24:31. — “He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet; and they shall gather together His elect from the four winds; from one end of heaven to the other.”

FOR some time I have purposed of speaking to you through the TRUMPET, some of the things of “truth and soberness:” as light given me of God, to reflect to His glory, and your good, or edification. May the dear “Father of lights” help me always, and you, to speak the truth in love. For he that “winneth souls is wise.” Amen! We remember that God said of His Son; in whom He was “well pleased,” “hear Him” And He inspired our teacher (of the Gentiles) Bro. Paul, to write this grand, all-encircling truth of His Word. “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God; and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” — 2 Tim. 3:16, 17. So for this reason, we purpose to to begin on the inspired Word. Taking up worthy points full of interest, and deeply needed instruction, correction, etc. as God may speak to us by His Spirit — from among those Scriptures much neglected by His professed messengers and teachers; and I have chosen this one to begin with, believing Father directs me in the choice of my subject and will aid me in writing on it; as He often has in speaking upon it. Glory to God! He gave me all the light I have on this blessed, but much abused Bible doctrine; for I was brought up by parents belonging to the sect called “Hardshell Baptist;” (well named.) And that doctrine as I heard it taught, caused me much trouble in my early days.

If only the “elect” are to be gathered by His angels, only they are to be his “saved children.” So it stands us in hand to come at a correct understanding of who are the elect, and how they become so. Praise God! “To the Word and testimony.” “For no Scripture, (Bible doctrine) is of private interpretation.” But “He (The Holy Spirit, Comforter) shall take of the things of mine and show them unto you.” Cause us to understand them, etc. Hallelujah! Now read Tit. 1:1. Paul can tell something helpful about them; for he is acquainted with their faith; so you see, he has seen some of them; and they have a peculiar faith, by which they are discernable, or “known and read” (of the children, at least,) if not by all men; and Paul there declares himself to be that kind of an apostle. He is well fitted to detect them, having “discernment of spirits.” And now he will tell ns more about them in 1 Tim. 5:21. Paul speaks of the “elect angels;” of course he does not call upon angels of darkness, and as there are but two classes of angels, he is speaking of the “pure angels” — angels of Heaven; so we see that this term “elect” means pure, holy; and in first Pet. 2:6, the same term is used to describe the attributes, or quality’s moral, of our Lord, who elected him; as He is God. So again you see the term means pure, holy. In Rom. 11:5, Paul tells us that it is an election of “grace,” the children of God have; and grace is a work, a gift of God. And it is given to those who do not “bow the knee to the image of baal.” And Paul knew there were some in his day who had not; and he gives us some personal examples, in. 2 Jno. 1:1, 13, where he, the elder, writes to the “elect lady,” and says of another church member, “that children of the elect sister greet thee” — (send you their love;) so we here see there must be some distinguishing marks by which the elect are known from mere professors. We are “chosen” or (fore-ordained) before the foundation of the world unto this purity, or holiness.—Eph. 1:4, and are elected, not by electoral, or hard arbitrative, or creative power; as some “blind leaders of the blind,” teach; but by “sanctification of the spirit” etc. 1 Pet. 1:2, and also by the same power and work; elect unto “obedience,” and also unto salvation. — 2 Pet. 1:10. Read the whole context from the 4-12 verses. Can the elect fall? read 2 Tim. 2:10. But they need not; for to attain this salvation with eternal glory, that Paul desires them to make sure of, as he here stated to the elect saint; we must faithfully, and closely heed the advice in 2 Pet. 1:4-12, and also 1 Pet. 1:22. That which brings us into ‘grace,’ “keeps us from falling, and presents us faultless etc.” Now read Heb. 5:9, and 2 Thess. 2:13. To establish this thought in your minds and to also show you, that we are “chosen” “from the beginning” to sanctification and “cleansing by the blood;” and after that we keep ourselves “spotless” from the world, by continued faith and obedience. As in 1 Pet. 1:2. Enter Heaven in the same way as in Heb. 5:9, as there is the “eternal salvation” connected always and in all things with “belief of the truth;” as in 2 Thess. 2:13. The marks by which we are “known and read, of all men,” are many of them specified, in Col. 3:2-13. etc. Especially do our brethren who are given “discernment of spirits,” read as largely by these manifest movings, as clear indications of the Spirit of Christ; which if we have not, we are “none of His,” not even justified. But many profess purity who lack these marks. God pity! The elect of God are constantly receiving the end of their faith; having grace and peace multiplied unto them — not added, but “multiplied” unto them. Praise God! and kept as promised through Peter. Our election “known” by us, and others. — 1 Thess. 1:4. Our lives telling it; while love and duty “constrain us” to tell it also with our lips. — Matt. 12:34. This is the doctrine, to which by giving constant heed as teachers, we shall both “save ourselves and them that hear us.” As in 1 Tim. 4:16. Glory be to God!

SOMEBODY

Sends us one dollar stating, “I expect my time is out on my paper; would like to renew,” and signs his name “Edgar,” but fails to give his Post Office or State. How can such a person expect us to give him credit for the money? Does this Bro. think there is not another Edgar in the U. S. or Can. that takes the TRUMPET? or does he think we can remember each of the thousands of different hand writings to tell who he is, and where he lives? Did he never read in the TRUMPET where we say: “When you write, be sure and give your full address, Name, Post Office, County and State?” This Bro. also sent an article for publication; but articles for publication must have the full name signed. If any one knows who this Edgar is, please write to us that we may give him credit for $ 1.00 on subscription.

Within the last week we have orders from five different persons to change their address, but all failed to give their former address. Now why are people so careless? Surely they know we cannot change their address unless we know where the address is. And surely they do not think us capable of keeping the address of 1500 or 1800 subscribers in our mind all the time. To be sure we have an Index to our book, but what good is that if we do not know what Post Office and State to look for? For instace, Nancy Taylor wishes her paper changed. We have a Nancy Taylor in Kan., one in Iowa, and one in Ohio. How do we know which of these have moved? Again Mary McConnell sends $1.00 for TRUMPET, saying she has read the paper for four years, and now wishes us to send it to Voltaire, Kan. Where has she been getting it all these four years? Now see the amount of trouble and waste of the Lord’s time and money to write to each of these parties and tell them their mistake. Then the letters must be kept on file, for in nine cases out of ten such persons will fail to tell how much money was sent in their former letter, so when we hear from them we must look over a pile of old letters to find how much money we must credit to them. All because they do not take the pains to read the notice on the second page of the TRUMPET, first column, “Change of address: — Subscribers wishing their address changed must be sure to give their former, as well as their new address.”

Dear Trumpet Readers: — Grace, peace and joy be multiplied unto you forever, is my prayer. Glory to God and the Lamb forever! I am saved to the uttermost just now, and kept from all sin continually.

Praise His holy name! Of myself I can do nothing, but the blessed Lord who dwells within, strengthens and bears me up through all trials and sorrow. Bless His holy name for such a precious friend. In the time of affliction He is ever present to comfort. He has taken up His abode in my heart. I am dead to the pleasures of this world, and my affections are centered on things above.

When I first started out in this good way, I thought it all right to wear superfluities of the world, but before God sanctified my sold He showed me I must give up all for Him, which I have done.

“O to be nothing, nothing,
Only to lie at His feet;
A broken and empty vessel,
For the Master’s use made meet.”

The Word says: “Be ye holy for I am holy. I praise God that when I heard the true Word of God preached I accepted it, and received the abiding comforter. I am willing to be any thing or nothing for my blessed Jesus. God bless you all. Amen!

MAXIMS.

—:o:—

PURITY of faith and earnestness of consecration are not common. The few who possess these qualities enjoy each other’s society, and are ill at ease in any other society. As surely as these three facts are facts, as surely the best way to realize the ideal Church on earth is to let this attraction for the Spirit of Christ and repulsion for the spirit of the world have its free course. If it has free course it will form a christian society, and form it rightly.

Any religious company which is great in numbers must (in the present state of religion) be a company conformed to this world — a bad company to be in. If the ideal Church could be now got together it would be what the Lord Himself calls it, a “little flock.”

Of all sad and deplorable work inviting sinners to come and become worldly-mind-christians is one of the most pitiable. They will take our invitations in that sense, however hard we try to prevent it, if we work on in cheerful fellowship with a worldly-minded crowd. We must put the standard of piety up higher, and make out the distinction plainer between the Spirit of Christ.

Of those who are called christians it is to be feared that a very large proportion are not only unconverted, but ignorant of what christianity is. Men who have preached the Gospel for years in evangelical churches, publicly teach that christianity is making the most of life. They might know that the multitude will not take such teaching in any other way than that man is to seek his own enjoyment; that is, that Christianity is simply wise, disciplined selfishness.

One class of professors seek to make religion a mere lightning-rod to cover worldly business and worldly pleasure while they live almost wholly conformed to this world. They want to be saved; but beyond that they wish as little christianity as possible. This appears to be the largest class that can be named.

Stolid determination to do just as our ancestors did, and think just as they thouught, is imitating the heathen. Stolidity tends to make all great reforms impossible.

What we need is more life. An egg cannot get along without a shell, but a chicken can. In like manner a christian nine-tenths dead cannot see how he could get along without a denomination; but a christian full of spiritual life has no need of a denominaional shell on him.

The “can’t see” of denominational folks arises with looking with the wrong kind of optics. It is of no use to look at the moon with a microecope, or at a cheese- mite with a telescope. Likewise those who don’t want to see a thing are quite sure not to see it. How many discoveries would be made in Microscopy if the investigators were as anxious not to discover anything as bigots are not to have their prejudice disturbed?

Rarely was ever a cause so baseless and bad that its retainers did not think it a very Gibralter of logical strength. Therefore, when thinking about thine own pet cause be careful in thy thinking. How is it with thee, blother? what sort of proof supports thy faith. All the multitude of contradictory beliefs in the world are proved in the estimation of their enthusiastic believers. It follows that the average human being must be badly at fault as to what proof is.

Of all false conclusions crediting existing church institutions with all the moral good the world possesses is one of the shallowest. To value an institution correctly we must consider not what it is, and what it does, but what else would occupy the ground if it were gone. Do not praise a vine that bears two pounds of indifferent grapes. Pull it up, and plant one that will bear twenty pounds of good grapes.

While it may be right to love a boy because he is “my boy,” it is not right to love nuisance because it is my nuisance.

Corruption of religion may proceed slowly, through a long course of ages, like the slow settling of a great, old temple’s foundations; but no sunken temple ever moves back to its proper place again in that quiet fashion. Both the settled foundations and the corrupted religion must be lifted up with mighty effort, and a disagreeable tearing up of things.

If college professors cared nothing about learning, and generals cared nothing about tactics, and judges cared nothing about statutes, we should think we had fallen upon a sunken age. What then shall we say of an age when eminent religionists boast of caring nothing about doctrines?

As the magnet recognizes iron, and iron recognizes the magnet, so converted persons walking implicitly in the Spirit recognize each other. It is not by means of ceremonies that they draw near to each other. The ceremony of introduction makes casual acquaintances; but it has no power to make them bosom friends. And if bosom friends should cease to love each other no one would be so shallow as to suggest a dissolution ceremony.

Some things can scarcely be done except by a concert of effort. One man can not very well raise a barn. If he has good sense he will not lift much at the timbers till others come to take hold with him. But ceasing from sin is not a thing of this class.

Some things are best done individually, at one’s own motion. The boy who will not wash his face till all other boys wash their faces will long remain a dirty boy. If you see yourself in a wrong position, get out of it. Do not postpone simple duty until you have first convinced Philemon and Polemon and Ebenezer.

Some things which seem to belong to the former class really belong to the latter class. It seems awkward and odd to do an honest, day’s work on the highway, when all the rest of your dozen companions are idling away time; but a thoroughly, thoughtfully, honest christian man will do it.

Your denominational committee on Church Union is likely to resemble a brewers’ committee on Temperance. They incubate well; and as one generation of members die off, others are appointed; but the birdling which they hatch (a hundred years hence) will be small.

The plan of reform that we need, and must have, is a plan that can be taken up and acted upon by one individual christian whose heart God has touched. A plan that will not proceed without all christians and the plan that must have a majority of some definite circle, are plans that are not worth much.

The denominational systems of the day are of human building, not of divine injunction. What man builds man may tear down.

Nearly every great reform requires great sacrifice and loss somewhere. It is not surprising that people cry out against the loss and sacrifice; but such cries are wrong and must be put one side.

It is not true that opposition to bondage must result in some other form of bondage. It often does, but not always. It is not true that opposition to denominationalism must result in another denomination. It sometimes does, but not always. There is such a thing as political freedom, and there is such a thing as spiritual freedom. The world has settled down for centuries in the belief that attempting to sustain a republic must inevitably result in a despotism worse than monarchy; yet in these last days America proves falsity of the world’s opinion by sustaining a free republic. We are glad that the men of 1776 tried once more the institution that had failed so many times previously. Some day God’s Church will be glad that faithful souls tried spiritual freedom once more.

Some denominations allow more spiritual freedom than others; but none allow as much its a christian ought to have.

To get cheerful, genuine toleration into our hearts we must love our brethren more. More love to Christ, (especially if it takes the form of more imitation of Christ) is a most excellent means to help us love our fellows.

God is a living God, not blind principle. If we seek the help of the wind in sowing seeds the help will be rendered in the wind’s usual unintelligent way. If we seek the help of an intelligent friend in sowing seeds we get intelligent help. God is such a help to those who labor in His truth. Thsose who think they have proved from probabilities and principles that our work must be a failure, are trying to prove that an intelligent God call be caught napping, and that an omnipotent God can be overpowered by natural forces.

God helps our honest efforts; we can hardly expect him to help our laziness, our dilatoriness, our cowardice, or our wanton unbelief.

Let no enlightened christian encourage riot, impropriety, and indecency, because they call themselves religion. The reformer Luther discovered and announced in his rude, forcible way that there was a spirit abroad that needed to be slapped on the snout. It looks as that spirit was abroad still. It is a groveling, sense loving, swinish spirit, and it dares to call itself the Spirit of God. The need of prompt resistance is made all the greater by that preposterous claim.

Seeing a fellow being do right and avow his reasons therefor is a power in the world. God is not inclined to leave Himself without a witness in this world. We have strong reason to hope that His Spirit will press home upon the hearts of men a right example rightly given.

Beware of church property. Where carrion is there you will see crows; and where large monetary interests are there you will probably see covetous men. Property makes the Church of the Lord a sort of coral reef — impossible to get rid of after it is dead.

Honest, open, Christian spirit requires that we should understand an idea before we fly in arms against it.

Seeing a fellow being do right and conceal his reasons therefor seems to count as but very little indeed. Beholders are liable to think it mere eccentricity, and dismiss it from their thoughts.

Waiting for organized iniquity to reform itself organically never accomplished anything, and never will.

Things will move toward the right when each individual does his duty; therefore let each individual proceed at once to put himself in a right attitude.

What we need is such a complete annihilation of church machines as shall leave a clear field for the above truths to move upon the hearts of men — nay, let us not say the above truths, but the truths of the revealed Word of God, and the things gently laid upon the human heart by the Divine Spirit.

COME OVER AND HELP US.

Dear Brethren: — I am led by the Lord to write a few lines. There are a number of people here who would like to have Bros. Speck & Kilpatrick, Bro. Warner, or some other holy minister come here and spend a few days with us; If you will let us know how much it will cost, we will send you the money to come. Praise our Heavenly Father! I feel that I am saved, but I do not feel satisfied. I would like to be baptized, but I can not let any of the sect preachers baptize me.

The saints will always find a home at my house, and my doors are open for meeting.

Your sister in Christ Jesus.

Dear Friends: I am not satisfied, but God is giving me more light. I ask the dear saints to pray for me. I pray that God will send some of His workers here soon; they will be well cared for. I see we have no salvation. Pray for me.

Dear brethren: — I do praise God for full and free salvation that saves me just now, and keeps me from all sin. Glory to God! I am kept by the mighty power of God every day, out of the hands of the devil. Oh! I praise God for His goodness to me. I confessed my sins to God, and He for Christ’s sake forgave them all. Then I saw it was the will of God that I should be sanctified; so I gave my body a living sacrifice, and He sanctified my soul. Praise His holy name! I have not met with any of the saints since I came here last spring. I miss them very much. O ! I do pray that God will send some minister here filled with the Holy Ghost fire to preach to perishing souls at this place. If any of the saints should feel led to come, and should want help to get here, let us know and I will do all I can to get you here to give the people light on the Word of God.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

—:o:—

Fenwick, Ont.

GRACE and peace be multiplied unto you all in the name of Jesus. Amen!

We praise Him, “who loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own precious blood.” After Bro. Warner’s departure, we took a little tour around in Pa., in search of lost souls. We were conveyed by sister Frost over to Barkeyville, where we held meeting Friday evening Nov. the 9th. Saturday evening the 10, we commenced meeting in Mechanicsville, Pa., where we held over Sabbath with great success, and victory through the Spirit. Sabbath evening we preached on the “Oneness of Believers.” Previous to our coming, the M. E. sect members had been fighting about the preaching: some would not support him, and some would; so a split was effected. The opposite party built a meeting house in the town; being distracted and confused in their hearts. The Lord blessed His Word and made it effectual and invincive to the people; vindicating His truth by the Spirit to the members of different sects in that place. About all of them were out to hear the discourse on the “oneness of believers,” and acknowledged the Word. We trust a great work of salvation can be wrought in that place, in the near future, and we anticipate going back, if the Lord will, probably as soon as we get back from Ont. God bless the dear saints in that place for their kindness to His little ones. From there Bro. Dick conveyed us over the river to the Red Lion meeting house, where we commenced meeting in the name of Jesus. We protracted the meeting nearly a week; two were converted and three sanctified. One, dear Bro. Hoover, was sanctified and filled with the power and baptized before we left. This ordinance was more precious seemingly than ever before. God bless sister Johnson, who consecrated, and give her grace to stand, is our prayer. The meetings were powerful all the time, deep and piercing conviction were upon the people, especially Sabbath evening; some sinners promised to give their heart to Jesus ore long, God save them is our prayer.

We went over to the Dotterror School- house, where we had previous to this time, held a good revival and the Lord saved many souls: all are standing firm, praise God! The Lord blessed and strengthened the saints and saved three sinners, who consecrated their all to Him; people were glad to hear the sound of the Gospel and our coining unto them. Dear Bro. Martz, who is the Lord’s servant, came after us and returned with us. He is always ready to help in the promotion of the Lord’s kingdom on the earth. Bro. Edmonson conveyed us to the station where we took train for Henderson, Pa. God bless the dear ones who ministered to our necessities. Bro. Frost met us at the train and conveyed us to his house where we received intelligence from Bro. Warner, urging us to hasten on to Can. So Bro. Frost took us to the depot Friday morning, where we started for Welland, Ont. We came by the way of Buffalo, N. Y. and Niagara Falls. There we saw the great work of God, and the right hand of His power manifested. Our Heavenly Father gave us a safe journey, and we arrived at Welland Nov. 24, where we met dear Bro. Warner whom we had been absent from for some time. Praise God! we are together again in the vineyard of the Lord. We also met Bro’s. Becken and Thomas, who conveyed us to their homes a distance of about, eight miles. We met Bro. John McIntosh whom we love much in the Lord, being very intimate with him while serving the devil. Thank God! we are serving the Lord now and have ceased to serve the devil. “Now being made free from sin and become servants to God, we have our fruit unto holiness and the end everlasting life.”

We have commenced the meeting in Fenwick, Ont. Souls are being saved and the Gospel made effectual by the power of the Spirit of God.

Pray for us ye ransomed throng,
For this great work is moving on;
..n Jesus’ name confronting sin,
We’ll fight amid the storm and din.

Our weapons, not the carnal kind,
..ut, mighty through the Lord, combine —
..o overthrow the devil’s plan,
..y re-creating fallen man.

Your Bro. in the kingdom and patience of Jesus, “hid away with Christ in God.”

Dearly beloved Saints: — The Lord richly bless and preserve you all in the bonds of peace and perfect love through the Spirit, ever doing the will of our kind Heavenly Father, that He may be glorified in all things through Jesus Christ our Lord and Redeemer. Amen!

Bro. and sister Schell commenced meeting in the town hall, at Rising Sun, O., on Oct. 19th, in the name of the Lord Jesus. The following evening we were joined in the work by dear Bro. Howard who stayed with us several days; then he was summoned to Sidney, O., because of sickness there. The meetings went on in the name of the Lord and the truth of God prevailed; although some of the sectarians tried to poison the minds of the people, by stirring up prejudice against us and the way of the Lord; and very much regretted our coming to that place, saying: “They ought not to have the hall, or be allowed to preach there;” nevertheless we went on working in Jehovah’s might, for the interest and welfare of the Heavenly Jerusalem, the true Church written in heaven, giving no heed to the babylon wish or efforts to hinder our labors. We wrought in God, and He wrought for us and Jerusalem, and for the true Gospel of His Son Jesus. Victory was ours continually, and on the Lord’s side. Bless the Lord! Hallelujah! Please read Nell. 4. Prejudice was swept away, and much good was done throughout the town among the people. The minds of many people were enlightened, and confessed that this was the true way, and that we were of God; while some sectarians lamented our labors in the town, others acknowledge us and the truth to be of God. Though there were not so many saved as we hoped for, yet we doubt not but that there will yet be many saved in the near future as the result of the Gospel seed sown in the hearts; God grant it speedily. One sinner who had never known the saving grace of God, was converted, and several sanctified wholly to God. We left many under conviction, hoping that they will yet yield, and be saved. Four dear obedient, children, were buried with Christ in baptism, by the hands of dear Bro. Schell; they were indeed happy and blest by obeying the command. Dear sister Mackey declared her freedom from the U. B. sect branch of babylon, and was wonderfully blest in her soul. May the Lord richly bless and reward her, for her labors of love, kindness, and hospitality to God’s little ones. She also done much to help the cause by accepting the truth, and casting her influence for God. We pray God to ever keep her pure and on the straight gospel line against sin and babylon, filled with the Holy Spirit and fire. The meeting closed Oct. 31st. The next day Bro. and sister Schell went to Pitt, O. and I went to the Roush neighborhood and laboured several days; the meeting closed with a consecration and ordinance service, and three sanctified to God, and some good done among the outsiders. Praise the Lord! On Saturday quite a number of us left that place for Jerry City, where we had a precious and spiritual meeting in the evening at the school-house. The next morning we went again, and were joined by others from Rising Sun, also some from Weston O. We were very happy to meet our dear Bro. Long for the first time. On Sabbath evening we went and observed the ordinances of washing the saints feet and holy communion. That meeting will long be remembered by all the saints. To God be all the glory and praise forever! There were two consecrations; one for pardon, and the other for sanctification, who received a positive witness of her acceptance. Sinners were convicted, and the saints were very joyful in glory and much edified. May God ever bless and keep those dear ones through His name The following Tuesday morning I was taken, by dear Bro. Miller, to the R. R. station, where I took train for Anna station, O., and was met by Bro. Fosnight, who took me to his home where we soon commenced meeting in the name of the Lord. The Church was much edified and quickened. Three consecrated themselves to the Lord, and were restored to the full favor of the Lord. But there I felt stronger prejudice against the cause than any where else in Ohio where I had labored. Had the people turned out more generally no doubt more good would have been accomplished. On Sabbath we had a precious melting ordinance and testimony meeting. O how our hearts melted and flowed together in the love and glory of Jesus. Praise the Lord! “If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.” We left three to be baptized by dear Bro. Howard.

The next day (Monday) took train for this place, where I am now laboring for the Lord. The good done through our labors in Ohio will only be known in the great day of eternity. To God only, be glory and dominion forever, Amen! Beloved brethren pray that we may be used of God in the salvation of souls.

Your humble Bro. and servant, saved and sanctified wholly.

Dearly Beloved in Christ: — On Saturday evening, Nov. 24th, we commenced meeting in this place. The Lord wonderfully blessed us in our labors for Him. The Church at this place is now in a prosperous condition; some were led to see errors which they had fallen into, others saw the wrong spirit that possessed them, and still others that had backslidden were again saved and rejoiced in the love of Christ Jesus, for which our hearts were greatly encouraged; but while our hearts are made to rejoice over the good done, they are made sad on account of some, (who could not stand the truth,) making shipwreck of faith, foaming out their shame, and filled with picking, criticising and fault finding spirits. Meeting closed at this place Friday evening the 30th. Saturday evening Dec. 1st, Bro. Michels commenced a meeting at the Noble school house in this Township, while we (Bro. and sister Austin and self) went to visit the Church at Diamond Springs; we found it in a better condition than expected; some of the brethren have had an experience in helping babylon save souls(?) that we trust they will not soon forget; they say they have enough of it.

We returned Monday, and again joined Bro. Michels at the Noble school-house. Pray for us beloved that God will save many precious souls in this place. After the Lord gets through with us here, if the Lord wills, wife and I expect to go to Yellow Lake Bethel. Ind. We will probably visit some of the Churches along the way. Brethren pray for us.

Dear Brethren: — May God wonderfully bless you and fill you with all the fulness of God. We are here in the name of Jesus; will begin meeting the 24th (Dv.) we are here to do the work of the Lord whatever that may be; in reproving, exhorting, rebuking with all long suffering and doctrine, and with all authority. Hallelujah to our King! On our way we stopped at Aurora Springs, Miller Co. and found several there professing holiness who were blinded by the anti christ spirit, fighting the commandments of Jesus Christ in the New Testament. Holiness has been preached there for about thirteen years, and there has not been one there on the straight Bible line of God’s holy Word; not one who knew any thing about the blessed evening light and the Church. Some over one year ago they had a campmeeting there in charge of E. J. Colborn, whicn lasted some time; during this meeting they claimed 120 souls saved, and today they cannot find more than 10 out of the 120. We were enabled to set the truth before them, in the Spirit of Christ with a heart full of love, leaving them to accept or reject as they may choose. We preached one week to very large congregations very much interested; some consecrated for holiness, and some for pardon. I am certain there might have been many souls saved if those professing would have come to the Word of God and straightened up by it. Some of them fought for their doctrine’s. May God pity them and deliver them from their great error of explaining away the Word. Some of them seemed very honest and will walk in the light. God bless them. My heart runs out after them in prayer. We ask an interest in the prayers of all the saints for us here.

I am your free Bro. in perfect love, Sanctified wholly.

Dear Brethren: — Glory to our God who saves us just now. We feel it a duty we owe to all the dear Trumpet readers, and all who are connected with the Trumpet, that we appreciate the blessed paper.

It does our soul so much good to hear from the dear ones everywhere. O bless God for the sweet fellowship we can feel in our soul just now. We received a letter from sister Walters, saying that she

was holding meeting near Elmore, Ohio; by her request, Bro. Miller and I went down in the name of the Lord to help in the meeting. Sister Walters preached the straight truth to the people, which made no small stir, especially among the Methodists, who tried to hinder the work; but Glory to God! there were several souls saved and are on their way to heaven. Nine declared their freedom babylon; four were buried with Christ in baptism.

Your humble Bro.

Marquand, Mo.,

Dear Brethren: — May the dear Lord bless and keep you. About six years ago the Lord found me low down in sin, a gambler, drunkard, and a professed infidel; He showed me my condition so plainly, that I could not resist the Holy Spirit any longer. I gave myself to Him, took Him at His Word, and He brought peace to my soul. I lived in the wilderness; (all who have passed through there, know what that is.) I lived there about six months, then I saw that I must get out of there or perish, as the Israelites did; so I started for the beautiful land of Canaan which I found with joy; but the preachers and class-leaders told me that I could not live there; but the Lord told me that every foot of land that I set my feet on, was mine, and in order to possess the whole land, I must overcome the kings and mighty men, which by the help of the Lord I past through. I went on through the land enjoying the blessed atmosphere and feasting on the corn and wine, and milk and honey. I went on possessing the land, until the Lord said to me, take the blessed Word of God and go from house to house, and talk and pray with the people, and tell the blessed love of God, then I stopped.

I soon lost my power and I have had but little power since. I have made several attempts to get back to God, but I have failed as yet. I feel that I am lost eternally unless I get relief soon. I have made vows and broken them time after time; I have tried to make money like Jonah, instead of doing what the Lord wanted me to do, and lost lots of the Lord’s money and got behind with business which I have not caught up with yet; but I have faild in nearly every thing I have undertaken. I desire an interest in the prayers of all the dear saints of God that I may get back to the Lord and he filled with His love and power. I will remain as one wishing to be your Bro. saved and sanctified.

Beloved Saints: — I am saved, sanctified, tried and made white. All glory be to God! I praise God for grace which enables me to keep all on the Altar. Hallelujah! I have victory in my soul through the blood of the Lamb. I believe if I could be in some of your meetings I should be healed of all my diseases. I have taken the Lord for my physcian.

He has healed me at different times, and I give Him all the glory. Please pray for my healing; also pray for a dear brother residing here, who has nearly lost the use of His eyes. Dear Saints: — I am wonderfully filled with the Holy Spirit just now. I am happy to say to the glory of God, that my soul is full and running over at this moment. Praise His holy name! I have just returned from a place in the dark swamps of S. C. where darkness covers the earth, and gross darkness the people; but the Lord tells me to ask of Him what I will and I shall have it. O dear saints of the living God plead with me that the glorious light of the Gospel may shine in that dark place. I am still rejoicing in a full salvation, and have the Holy Spirit to guide me into all truth. Hallelujah! Pray for me. Your sister all for Christ and under the blood.

Dear Saints: — Grace, mercy and peace be multiplied unto you through Jesus Christ. Amen! We are praising God for full salvation, and complete deliverance from all the power of darkness. Hallelujah to God and the Lamb! God says in His Word “If we walk in the light as He is in the light we have fellowship one with the other, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.” Praise the Lord! We are walking in the light, following in le Word of God. The devil says we are in a delusion, but I praise God that Jesus Christ is the propitiation for our sins, and of the whole world; “Hereby we do know that we know Him, because we keep His commandments. He that says I know Him and keepeth not His commandments is a liar and the truth is not in him.” Well praise God we keep His commandments and they are not grevious. If any are sick among us and they call on us we go in the name of the Lord and anoint them with oil, and leave the results with the Lord, and let the pickers go on picking for they are out of the Body any way. Your brother washed and redeemed.

Dear Saints: — Oh this uttermost salvation which saves us from all sin! Praise God for His mighty power! Each day reveals some new beauty in Jesus. Oh! how I feel the meaning of that sweet promise “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee, because he trusteth in thee.” Glory to God! His glorious Word is full of comforting promises; all He requires of His little ones, is perfect submission to His holy will. When wholly sanctified how easy it is to do our fathers will. Praise God for willing hearts! Truly, to His children, His yoke is easy and His burden light. Glory to Jesus! He has given me a new heart, a good conscience, and a faith unfeigned. I have laid upon the altar every thing that would bind me to the world, and now sit at the feet of Jesus and learn of Him. During the past week I have been sorely tempted, but praise God, who giveth us the victory through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I have gained complete victory over all the world, the flesh and the devil, and my soul is filled with the glory of God. O praise His name forever! Dear Trumpet Readers: — God bless you all and keep you in all His love, light and liberty. After being in a few meetings in Mo., I left there to come to this state; I am here now in the name of Jesus. On the morning I left Mo. I was baptized in the name of Jesus for which the Spirit of God shone brightly upon me, by which I knew I was pleasing God. I was first poured for baptism, but I was never satisfied. Praise God, I know we must go down into the water to show forth our Master’s death, and come straightway up out of the water to show forth His resurrection. — Rom. 6:4; and 1 Pet. 3:21. He is gone on to the Father, and if we only remain faithful a few days longer, we shall have an inheritance in that Heavenly land. On my arrival in N. C., I find many professing to know Christ who are perverse in their ways, and many who have their names written on books here that say they are afraid their name is not in Heaven. O may God help such people to come to the truth as it is in God’s Word. “We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren.” — 1 John 3:14.

The devil has indeed through blinded teachers set up a wonderful kingdom on earth, and indeed the shepherds do feed themselves, and not the sheep. God help the watchmen to cry out the thirty fourth chapter of Ez. to all nations (denominations.) How true it is that the hireling careth not for the sheep; but Jesus is known by His sheep and is a good Shepherd as we find His words in St. John 10:13, 14.

God bless every effort put forth for the advancement of His holy work. Oh dear saints let us cry to God and falter not in His work. I am your brother endued with power from on high. Glory to Jesus forever!

Dear Saints: — This evening I feel like writing my testimony and giving God all the glory for perfect love and salvation that keeps me free from all sin. I am so glad that the Lord ever called after me when I was in the broad road to destruction. Soon I would have been lost for ever. O I praise the Lord that there is nothing in this world that can separate us from God’s eternal love that flows like a mighty river in my soul.

The Lord is wonderfully blessing me every day. When trials and temptations come, we can call upon God the Rock and

spring of our salvation. Glory to God for ever and ever! “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of water, and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.” I am saved just now and under the blood.

Dearly Beloved Saints: — May the Lord bless you and keep yon holy, unblameable, until the coming of Christ. I feel that it would be to the glory of God for me to write my testimony. I do praise God for the salvation of my soul; and I realize that I am saved through the precious blood of Jesus, and have perfect freedom in my soul, and victory over the devil and all His works. Thanks be to God! who giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Glory to Jesus! the Lord has stripped me from all pride, and every thing that would not bring glory and honor to His name. The Lord permitted me to go to the Deerfield meeting, and He wonderfully blessed my soul. I feel stronger in the Lord, and have a stronger determination in my soul to do God’s will, than ever before. Praise the Lord for His goodness to the children of men! Well I can say that I am saved from all sin, and trusting in God with all my heart; doing His will, and walking in the light as He gives it to me. Praise God forever, for salvation that makes us free, and fits us for Heaven.

When I was a wicked sinner,
An awful wretch undone;
A voice did sweetly whisper,
The Lord is near to come.

When I heard the voice that whispered,
So sweetly unto me;
I fell at the feet of Jesus,
And there He set me free.

And now the blood of Jesus,
Does cleanse me from all sin;
I humbly trust Him fully,
And He keeps me pure within.

Your saved sister in Christ.

Dear Gospel Trumpet: — I do praise God for a people that are straight on the Bible line. I do thank God for a salvation that saves from all sin, and gives me victory over the world, the flesh, and the devil. I am here alone, but Jesus is able to keep me from all sin. I am determined to press on till I gain the prize. I want to keep low at the feet of Jesus, doing His will. O I praise God for saving, and keeping me. Your sister in Christ.

Dear Brethren: — I feel led to write my testimony. I am gloriously saved of God from this sinful world, sanctified to do the will of the Lord. Praises be to His holy name! I know I have Christ the hope of glory formed within. I am tried and made whiter than snow; my heart is filled with rejoicing. I am alone with Jesus, O how sweet, to humbly worship at His feet; hid away with Christ in God. I can say of a truth:

“Othis blessed holy rest,
On my Jesus loving breast;
Oh the sweetness and completeness
Of perfected holiness.”

I would to God I could see many others praising God, and rejoicing in His love. Oh it is good to be all the Lord’s. Pray for me that I may always be kept in the straight and narrow way. I want to live so straight, and set a godly example before my family and the world that they may all know I am truly a child of God.

Your sister in Christ.

Dear Saints: — I feel led of the Spirit to testify for Jesus. I consider it a grand and glorious privilege. Glory be to Jesus! Last March when Bro. Warner and Co. came here to preach the everlasting Gospel, I attended the meeting and could see that there was a reality in this great salvation; and that there was no spirituality in the sect. I was deeply convicted of sin, but had a stubborn will, and would not give up for some time; but just before the meeting came to a close I was gloriously converted. I consecrated for sanctification at the last meeting they held with us; it was sometime before I received the blessing. I believe I was wholly sanctified till the month of June, when I began to go back into the world; but did not realize the fact at that time, and when I did the devil discouraged me and told me it was no use trying, that I would be lost any way; so I gave up in despair, and went clear back into the hands of the devil; but, praise the Lord! He sent Bro’s. Kilpatrick, Speck, Bryant, Willis, here to preach the blessed truth. I was more heavily convicted than ever in all my life; but still I felt that there was no hope for me; I went to the Lord in prayer and He showed me there was. The next night I went to the meeting; the invitation was given to come and seek salvation; but the devil tried hard to keep me back, and I could stay away no longer; I sought for, and found salvation. O praise God! It is a glorious thing to have salvation. I consecrated for sanctifiction, and glory to Jesus! I received the blessing. O I do praise God, for doing so much for me; I can never tell half of what He has done for me, and of His glories and riches. O hallelujah! It would take an eternity to tell it. No tongue can tell the joy I feel, ’tis better felt than told. I would to God I could see the whole world come to God and get saved. I praise God for His healing power; He has healed my weak eyes. I praise Him for the victory I have in my soul; where all was trouble and sorrow before, is peace and joy abounding. Glory to God! I am the least of His children. O I can’t say enough for Jesus. I ask an interest in the prayers of God’s people that I may prove faithful. May the Lord bless you all, and be with you continually. Amen! Your sister in Christ.

Dear Saints: — I know it is the will of God that I write my testimony this morning. I do praise God for this blessed peace that I have in my soul. I am saved to the uttermost. I have been very sick for some time; but the Lord said: “Trust in me and I will heal you.” I held on to God the rock of our salvation; and this morning I am well, and doing my work; for which I give God all the glory. I never will quit praising God for what He has done for me. I will praise the blessed Lord. The devil may growl and howl along the edge of the road; but praise God he cannot get on this highway. Glory to Jesus! “He that is begotten of God, keepeth himself and the wicked one toucheth him not.” None but God knows how I thank Him for showing me where I was, and for leading me out of darkness, and giving me the blessed light of life. Oh! glory to God, for what I feel in my soul this morning. Your sister made white and tried.

Beloved Saints of God: — There is a glorious work going on for the Lord here; and quite a number are saved and out straight for God. There were five baptized, and there are more to be baptized. I bless God for the Word which is so plain. O praise God! And yet there are a few who have not the Spirit, and say the ordinances are done away with. We ask all of God’s little ones to pray for us here.

Dear Saints of the Living God: — I do praise God that I have the privilege of writing my testimony for the Lord. I am saved and sanctified and walking in the beautiful light of God. Praise His holy name! I do feel thankful for what the Lord has done for us; our little baby was very bad with scrofula; and at the Hamilton assembly meeting we had the elder’s to lay on hands, anointing it with oil in the name of the Lord, and praise God! He did heal it. Praise God! for the healing power. My prayer is that God will be with all those in mighty power that are out in the field laboring for poor lost souls.

Your saved sister under the blood.

Dear Saints Greeting: — May the choicest of God’s blessings rest upon you all. We are gloriously saved just now. Praise His holy name! I am not very well in body; and I fear, (unless God heals me) my work is about ended; one physician at least tells me so; but of course I know my own condition. I think that nothing but the prayers of the saints, in my behalf, can heal this body; my cough is bad; my appetite is very poor, and can scarcely eat any thing.

Places are opening up all around for the work of the Lord; the fields are already white for harvest. It seems to me that God’s work is not done with here, but the devil wants to stop the work; I shall do all I can in the name of Jesus, while life shall last, to defeat the devil every where. My soul is happy this morning, for I know it is eternal life whether God calls me home or bids me stay. Thy will be done, O God! is my prayer. May God bless all who are called into the field, and help them to be up and a doing, for there is no time to be lost. Perishing souls are at stake all around us on every side. I am very sorry for precious time lost. By the help of God I shall improve all my time to the best of my ability, or the ability God gives me in the future. Dear saints pray much for us. Yours in love, and earnest desire for perishing souls.

Dear Saints: — I feel led to testify to the goodness of God to me. If we live faithful unto the Lord, we shall have eternal life. Is not this worth living for? O glory to God forever, and ever! I praise God, for what He has done for me. He has saved me from my sins, and sanctified me wholly unto the Lord. Glory to Jesus! I am walking in all the light that shines on my pathway. I suffered with the catarrh fifteen years, and tried all earthly remedies I could find, but nothing relieved me. I was led by the Spirit to go to Bro. Pierce’s, and have him lay hands on me for healing. Praise God! the work was done, and I am made every whit whole. May God help all His children to have their lamps trimmed and burning, that they may not be overtaken as a thief in the night. Your Bro. in Christ.

Dearly Beloved Saints, Greeting: — May you be filled with all joy and peace in believing. That ye may abound in hope through the power of the Holy Ghost. Amen! Well beloved, I am saved with an everlasting salvation. The Lord is my strength and power; and He also has become my salvation. Glory be to His name! “God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.” “If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.” I praise God that it cleanseth me just now from all sin! Oh hallelujah to His name! There are but very few of us in this place any more, but we obey God and assemble ourselves together. Jesus says: “Where two or three are assembled together in my name, there am I in there midst.” Once in two weeks we have a meeting in a school-house in New Haven Township, where there are a few saved souls. God has wonderfully helped us in learning the songs out of the new book. I could read notes but had to have help to learn to sing the pieces; but by the help of God, can now learn them and can get the time all right. I speak of this to honor and glorify God. His grace is sufficient in every time of need. Your sister saved and sanctified by the Holy Ghost.

Dear Readers of Gospel Trumpet: — I feel led to write my testimony for the glory of God. Grace and mercy be multiplied unto you. Amen! I have given up all to follow Jesus and His blessed Word. Praise His holy name forever!

The Bible says: “They that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” I had a hard struggle to die out to self, vain glory, and all man-fearing spirit. I love the TRUMPET for the Word of God that it contains. May it fly swift through the land, and publish the everlasting Gospel to a perishing world. Some will not read the TRUMPET; and the devil will not let some read it for he knows the truth it contains would have an effect on their mind and they might become convicted and yield their all to God, and be saved in Jesus Christ. Your Bro. saved in Jesus’ name.

Dear Brethren: — I feel led of God to write some of my experience. Six years ago last March, the Lord found me about as wicked as I could get; getting drunk, swearing and gambling. The Lord told me if I would be His disciple, I must deny myself, take up the cross and follow Him. I thought I never could do that, but He said His yoke was easy and His burden light; so I thought I would venture on His Word. I did, and praise God! I found Him to be true. I then joined the U. B. sect and was in there about eighteen months, when I heard the glorious doctrine of sanctification as a second work of grace, and the one Church preached, I accepted it and consecrated my all to God. Then the Lord called me to preach His awful Word to the people; at first I refused, but fell into condemnation. Two years ago last Aug. the Lord afflicted me with Lung Disease; I got so low that every body thought I would die; but I knew what I was afflicted for. I called on God and He raised me up again; but still I was disobedient. Last July at the Lima grove meeting I confessed my condition, and got down to the mercy-seat, repented and God forgave me. I then obeyed Rom. 12:1, and the Lord satisfied my soul. Glory be to Jesus for ever! I do thank God for all His goodness to me, and I am ready to rush to the battle wherever He may lead. Well dear brethren may the Lord help us in working for Him. Let the Lord have His way for we are dead and our lives are hid away with Christ in God. Your Bro. in Christ, saved to the uttermost. Glory to Jesus.

Epsom, Isa,

Dear Saints of God, Greeting: — May the Lord bless you and fill you with power and knowledge of the Gospel of Christ. We write and trust it is to the glory of God, since Bro. Lindley was here from Iowa, the saints are much stronger in the Lord. Praise His name! Sept. 30, we met at Bro. Cloe’s house; only a few were present, but we had the victory through Christ, In the evening the Sodomites came flocking in and thronged the house, and satan used many ways to hinder the Word of God from having the desired effect on the hearts of the people; but the Lord helped us to deliver His Word to them with victory in our souls, and we trust good was done. Oct. 7, we met at Bro. Moor’s and had the privilege of preaching the Word. We then went about twenty miles from home, here the doctrine of holiness had been intoduced some four or five years ago. We found some honest souls there. I remain your Bro. wholly sanctified and in the war. Amen!

Dear Saints: — This evening I am still saved and kept by the mighty power of God. And I do praise the Lord for salvation and His goodness to me. Dera Brethren: — I can say to the honor and glory of God, that I am saved and sanctified and doing God’s will at all time. I am sweetly resting in the arms of Jesus. O praise the Lord, for freedom and sweet communion with the Father. I am the only saint in this place, and they all think it is strange light, and laugh at me; but praise the Lord! His grace is sufficient. Oh glory to God!
