My Testimony.
I will ever prove loyal to Jesus,
Though the heavens and earth pass away,
His Word is a solid foundation
On which all the righteous will stay.
I will ever prove loyal to Jesus,
And forever I’ll rest in His love,
Though the powers of hell dash against me
He’ll strengthen my soul from above.
I will ever prove loyal to Jesus,
And I’ll walk in the way that He leads,
Just, trusting His grace every moment
And I know He’ll supply all my needs.
Yes I’ll ever prove loyal to Jesus,
Though He leads me in paths I know not,
His wisdom and judgments are perfect
And contented I’ll be with my lot.
Oh yes I’ll prove loyal to Jesus,
In times when my soul is sore tried
I will lean on His bosom for comfort,
And He all my foot-steps will guide.
Oh I’m bound to prove loyal to Jesus,
His true faithful soldier I’ll be;
The battle I’ll fight in His power and might
Till the end of this warfare I see.

HOLINESS.

Sanctify yourselves therefore and be ye holy: for I am the Lord your God. Lev. 20 7. “Thou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God.” Deut. 18:13.
What is holiness? It is more than conversion. His wholeness — oneness with God. Signifies to be clean, every whit; to be dead indeed unto sin but alive unto God.
1, Sin is not a necessity. — 1 10:13.
2, Holiness is required. — Deut. 10:12.
3, Holiness is promised. — 1 1:7, 9; Heb. 7:26.
4, Holiness is possible now. — 1 Jno. 5:18.
5, By the blood. — 1 Jno. 1:7
What results will follow holiness? Continued power and triumph over sin. Continued consciousness of purity. Constant peace by the rest of faith. More confidence and power in prayer. The habit of praying without ceasing. More able, willing and successful service. Holiness of heart does not leave any room for carnality or worldly conformity. It makes us free from all the raits of unrighteousness. Amen.

BEARING ONE ANOTHER’S BURDENS.

To all the Saints Greeting: — Grace and peace be multiplied unto you for Jesus sake. Paul says, “Bear ye one another’s burdens and so fulfil the law of Christ.” — Gal. 6:2. “We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak.” — Rom 15:1. Him that is weak in the faith receive ye.” — Rom. 14:1. In the first place he says, bear ye one another’s burdens and so fulfil the law of Christ. “We find then that love is the fulfilling of the law.” — Rom. 12:10. When God’s children who have the love of God in their hearts observe an opportunity of helping a weak brother or sister bear a burden, either spiritually or temporally, they do it gladly and consider it a privilege rather than a task. Perhaps a word of encouragement, some act of kindness, or if you know of some who are so situated that duty to their home does not permit them to meet with God’s people but seldom, the devil will try to discourage them on every hand, we might encourage their heart by a cheering letter, gospel tracts, and fervent effectual prayer to God in their behalf. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. — Gal. 6:10. When we know a brother or sister who does not seem to measure to all the Word of God and are weak in the faith, if we say anything about their case it our duty to go to them in the love of Jesus, and say just what God gives us to say, and if not we should not tal.. about them to others. And when one who professes the salvation of God will even join with cold hearted worldlings, in censuring in a rash manner such a one, we just say by the authority of God’s Word that their heart is as void of the grace of God as the non-professing sinner, and it makes no difference if they profess to have experienced two, three, or even half a dozen works of grace. We knew that God is not the author of such a spirit. We do not mean by this to fellowship every body who professes to be saved when their teachings are against the Word of God. Nay, verily have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. But we do say that one who has the Spirit and love Of Christ in their heart will not speak in a rash unkind manner of a brother or sister either in their presence or elsewhere. We say this in the love of Jesus: that no man put a stumbling-block or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way. — Rom. 13:i3. Now, for instance what one of us having a brother or sister in the flesh who was afflicted and caused to suffer from pain of body, would not feel like trying to shield and protect them in every way from the grasp of death? How much more then ought we to love a brother or sister in our heavenly Father’s family, who is weak and in danger and shield and protect them by the grace of God from the snares that will result in spiritual death. Amen.

OUR DUTY TO OUR CHILDREN.

Dear Saints: — The Lord bless you for Jesus’ sake. I have been thinking of writing a little on this subject for some time, but have been waiting for some else more capable than myself feeling my incompetency to deal with a subject of so much importance; but by the help of God will write a little. In Exodus 20:12 it says, “Honor thy father and mother that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.” This is one of the commandments. Then, again in Deut. 5:10, “Honor thy father and thy mother as the Lord thy God commanded thee.” In Eph. 6:1, 2 ‘Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.” “Honor thy father and thy mother which is the first commandment with promise.” Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing to the Lord.” Col. 3:20. These and other Scriptures show that it is children’s duty to obey their parents: and if they do not, then what? There are many Scriptures for the parents. Now the Lord give you grace to bear a little plain talk. O dear ones, I have been grieved to see this lack among the saints of God. It is a great wrong cone to the children, and not only to them but to yourselves. I was in a family not long since where the children were not under very good discipline. The consequence was, much discord among the children and a great annoyance to the parents, the mother especially. A little extra attention and some firmness and discipline is needed and enough of the latter to accomplish the object. This is your duty toward your children, and to yourselves, and your God. I know of families where the children govern the parents. The Lord help you to examine yourselves. There is a great responsibility resting upon you in this respect, and do you suppose that the Lord will hold you guiltless? There is much Scripture to be brought, upon you. Oh, they say, ‘we cannot whip our children, we love them so.’ Some say, “I do not believe in whipping children.” Where children are disobedient who is to blame? What does the Bible, say about these things? Solomon says, in Prov 13:24, “He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him be times.” I understand that this means, as often as they need it. Now we know that children are naturally disobedient. In Gen. 8:21 It says, “The imagination of man is evil from his youth up.” So it is evident that they have to be chastened in order to bring them into obedience. We have heard people say, we are sanctified to do the Lord’s will. Well it is the will of the Lord that you bring your children up in the “nurture and admonition of the Lord.” There is a double lesson in Heb. 12. We will commence at the fifth verse. “And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, my son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him; for whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom Hereceiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, where of all are partakers, then are ye bastards and not sons. Furthermore, we have had fathers of out flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence; shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of Spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days Chastened us after their own pleasure; but He for our profit, that we might be partakers of His holiness,’’ etc. I know it is not pleasant to chastise our children. I do not think the Lord delights to chastise us but it is necessary sometimes to keep us where we belong. He has to whip us into obedience. The Lord has chastened me severely; it did not give joy at the time but afterward it yielded its fruit. As Paul says, in Heb. 12:11, “Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievious: nevertheless, afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.” How sweet to look up into our heavenly Father’s face and realize His approving smile after we have been whipped into obedience, as it were. The most sincere gratitude shown to me by any of my children was for a severe chastisement. It was not joyous at the time to either of us, but afterward it yeilded its fruit. She soon came to me and with tears of gratitude in her eyes and arms around my neck, thanked me over and over again, and said, “I am so thankful that you whipped me until I obeyed you.” And she often speaks of it. Hoping that some may be profited by reading this, I remain your saved brother.

PUT YOUR TRUST IN THE LORD.

Dearly Beloved Saints: — I praise the Lord and glorify His name for what He has done for me. He has saved and sanctified my soul, and delivered me from the snares of the enemy of my soul. We read in Luke 18:18-26. That a certain ruler asked Jesus saying: “Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good save one, that is, God. Thou knowest the commanments, do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother. And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up. Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich. And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. These and many other scriptures teach us that we mast forsake all things for the sake of Christ, before we can be His followers. But if you put your trust in Him He will open your spiritual eyes to the truth of the Gospel, and you will be enabled to take up your cross and follow Him in the ways of righteousness. Yet there are many preachers and religious teachers, who tell the people that there is no hell, and that God is too merciful to punish any one in that way, thus deceiving many souls.
We are commanded in Isa. 58:1, to “Cry aloud and spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and show my people their transgressions and the house of Jacob their sins.” As we look over the catalogue of deceptions and confusion, we find that there are many ways to deceive the people. Among the most dangerous of all the ways I ever knew is the so-called Salvation Army, which would be more properly called the Army of darkness, because through it the devil has more schemes to ensnare souls, and get them to join them through the instrumentality of the ungodly preachers. We have been acquainted with this creed for some time, but never knew of so much of its darkness until a short time ago, when they held a meeting here in Marine City and in their own estimation had a wonderful time, and published from their pulpit a couple weeks before hand, that it would cost at least 10 cents to get in. On the night of the meeting there was an old man on the outside, who needed salvation and great sympathy from the christian people, because he is a man who drinks, and is surrounded by many other bad habits. This man went in to see if there was any good to be done his for soul; but the poor unfortunate only had five cents, and the door keeper told him that it would take ten cents, and that he could not stay in for five cents. As the man came out I met him, and told him that the Lord of the Bible did not charge anything for salvation, but offers it as a free gift. O, what a contrast between the true Church of God and these ungodly things. Read Matt 11:28-30, and see what a glorious invitation Christ gives to the sinners, and does not charge ten cents for it either. Also in Rev. 22:17, we find that the water of life is offered to every sinner, without money and without price. In the 10th chapter of St. John, we learn what the true Church is, and what is the door of the Church, and who admits the members into the Church, what great blessings we find after we get into it, and it is all given without, paying any money at the door. Dear ones let us learn the lesson ourselves, and teach sinners what St. Paul taught the Galatians in the (3 Chap. 7, 8 vers. “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.” Let us never be found humbling ourselves to any sects or idols of this world, for they are the works of the flesh, and all the works of the flesh shall reap corruption at the day of judgment. But we who are saved let us humble ourselves to do the perfect will of God, and many souls will come to God through the instrumentality of our labors. And with clean hands and pure hearts, we can say, as St. Paul said to Timothy, I have fought a good fight; I have finished my course, I have kept the faith henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord the righteous Judge shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but to all them also that love His appearing. May the Lord of life lift you up and establish you above all the things of this world.

Dear Saints: — Glory be to Jesus for a salvation that saves us from our sins, and keeps us saved. I am fully trusting in Jesus, and He keeps me moment by moment. I was wholly sanctified nearly two years ago, and I have been rejoicing in this light ever since. God gave me the light on the denominations, and called me out. Glory be to His name! I often wondered about these things when I was but a child. I would ask the question if God would have separate places in Heaven for them; for I saw they were so selfish that they would not associate with each other. But how wonderfully the Lord has revealed this all to me. Praise His holy name! There is but one person that stands with me in this place. We have our meetings, and our hearts yearn for a Holy Ghost man or woman to come here and preach this wonderful Gospel.

We have just received another donation of $5. towards buying a tabernacle of be used in the work of the Lord in this part of the country. We now have $10. for that purpose. One could be purchased very cheap now for cash.

Our last letter from Bro. Warner and Co, reported all well, and a glorious work being done for the Lord in the south. Mail addressed to them at Meridian, Miss. will reach them at present, or if sent to this office will be forwarded. Let your prayers be offered in their behalf and the work of the Lord in the South, that many souls may be gathered into the fold of Christ.
We wish to thank the church a Girard Mich. for a donation and barrel of provision shipped to us on Thanks-giving, and also the dear ones in other places who have aided us in spreading the Gospel.

In the last issue of the Trumpet we promised the children a column beginning the first of January, and since that time we have been receiving testimonies from the children some of whom are praising the Lord for salvation, and others are desiring to be saved. They all seem to be very much pleased to know that they are to be favored in this way. And many of them are hoping and trusting that the time is not far distant when they can have a paper entirely for themselves. We believe that the Lord will yet in some way provide the necessary means. If you could only read some of the little letters that come to us and see how eager the little ones are for salvation work, and the welfare of their souls, we think some one would be greatly tempted to sell a few acres of land or some of their stock or something of the kind and let it be used in this way that the little ones may be gathered in to the fold of Christ.
It will cost about $130 cash to purchase the necessary material to start this paper, and probably about $25 each issue. With the heavy expenses that we have, we are unable to expend that amount, and so leave it all in the hands of the Lord awaiting His bidding in regard to it.

For some time the question has been agitated in the Methodist church, as to whether women shall be admitted to the general conference or not. A trial vote was taken throughout that denomination, in order to obtain the desire of the members on that subject, and resulted in a small majority in favor of the women. A vote will now have to be taken in all the annual conferences and must receive a vote of three- fourths of all the members present, before it can reach the next general conference where it will be settled by a final vote. These people claim their creed is ordained of God, and moving in His order. But, suppose God was to commission some of the women to go forth and preach the Gospel, and give them the command to “go forward,” what would be the result? Why, the Methodist brethren would say, “You will have to wait until conference meets, to see whether they will permit you or not.” And if the General Conference decides against them, they cannot “go forth” preaching Jesus, in the bounds of Methodism as if it had been decided otherwise. So one might conclude that God made a mistake in calling them to the ministry. Thank the Lord; we are not under the galling yoke of Methodism, nor bound by the bands and straps of her discipline, and He calls His children “out from among them,” and makes them free and “complete in Him,” ready to go when He commandeth, and wherever He leadeth.

U. B. ISM: — The “United Brethren” for some litre has been somewhat, dis-united over the Secrecy question, and a few other things. A little over a year ago things came to a terminus, and the result was, that two parties were found to be in existence among them, each claiming to be the original “United Brethren.” Since that time they have been almost continually lawing about the matter, to see whether they are really “United Brethren” or not, so as to hold the church property, as only the original ones will be entitled to the property. Just as soon as it is fully decided by all the courts of legal jurisdiction in the U. S., and received the conclusive decision of their highest tribunal, then they will begin to know who they are and who they are not, from a legal standpoint.
The two parties are known among themselves generally, as “Liberals” and “Radicals”. The Liberals are in favor of Secret Societies, and such like, and at present hold most the church property, and have gained most, the cases in court, and seem to greatly outnumber the other party, and at present are rejoicing over a decision given in their favor by judge Bundy of Richmond, Ind., which is almost a decisive blow to the Radicals unless carried successfully in a higher court.
The “Radicals” oppose Secret Societies and as the two factions could not agree upon certain portions of their discipline a separation was the result, and each claiming to be the genuine party. Judges and lawyers have been studying and quibbling over the discipline in order to settle the matter. but it is doubtful whether they ever presented the Bible or not, to see which one measured up to its teaching. But why do we speak of these things? Because souls are being deceived by them and led astray. Because after having been a member of that sect for ten years, the Lord delivered me out of her clutches, having enabled me to see the spiritual desolation and babylon confusion in her midst. And He has declared the fallen stae of spiritual babylon, and commanded us to “flee out of the midst of here and deliver every man his soul.” “Shoot at her and spar not the arrows.” We trust the “Radicals will get radical enough for the truth, that they will call on the Lord for deliverance and not only leap over the walls of sectism but, get the anointing of the Lord and that the “Liberals” will be liberal enough to give up all the vain philosophies of men and take the Word of the Lord as their guide and discipline, and when all this is done they will be United Brethren indeed.

WHERE ARE THE PREACHERS?
Hundreds of them have left all they have, and are out in the Vinyard of the Lord, rescuing perishing souls. Many of necessity are at home caring for their families, who are suffering for want of food and clothing. Souls are at stake and these ministers are needed in the work of the Lord. There is a great responsibility resting upon some one. Must the preachers bear it all? Dear ones, if it is about all you can do to make a good comfortable living and have everything plenty around you when you devote your whole time in that way, how do you suppose the preacher can provide for his family when he devotes his whole time to preaching away from home? Does not part of this responsibility rest upon you, to see that their families are provided for? Look around and see that you do your duty, that the blood of lost souls be not upon you. We have in mind an able minister, who we believe God has called into the work long ago, who has been now five years gelling ready to go out, but does not seem to he as near ready as he was five years ago. It means something to be a true minister of the Gospel. It means a sacrifice of all things, for the sake of Christ and the salvation of souls; but one is well repaid by way of divine grace in the soul, and a future reward in Heaven. Put on the whole armour and go forth in the name of Jesus. But be sure that you have your commission from God and then tarry at Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD
Watkinsville, Miss. Dec. 8, 1890.
Dear Saints: — We are happy to report a good work of God in this place. We closed last night with a precious ordinance meeting. There were about thirty or forty saints present to participate.
Bro. W. W. Bradley opened up the holiness work here over two years ago. A great many people fell in love with the holiness doctrine, and a marvelous change was wrought in the general state of society But many who were enthusiastic for the doctrine, as is sometimes the case, had not really grasped the experience, but about all were honest, and with the proper teaching would have reached the Bible plain. But a little over a year ago A. M. Kiergan held a meeting here in which he exhibited the sour contents of a bad heart, and the cause of Christ suffered from the confusion. Because Bro. Bradley believed the whole New Testament, and rejected the little Ft. Scott creed, Kiergan would not even allow him to speak in the meetings and abused him. He berated the people with shameful speeches, because some of them used tobacco, and still professed, instead of teaching them how to gain the plain of Bible salvation. And his viru even lent heart overflowed with ranting and positive falsehoods against us, who were over a ..bous u..l miles away, and never had been here. Told the people that we would not fellowship a person who ate pork, that we believed in promiscuous kissing, and other such stuff which he must have manufactured for the benefit of his craft; which rejecting some of God’s truth, must refuge infalsehood. The Spirit he showed failed even to convict men that were wrong, and we have not learned of any were led to quit their tobacco through his abuse. Thank God! When the sins of tobacco, and the evil of poisonous coffee and tea, were preached against in the love of God, and the Spirit of meekness, nearly all who professed Christ here, and used them, obeyed the voice of the Shepherd, Christ, and put away those idols, and such as were unwilling to put away the filth of tobacco, felt that the Word and Spirit of God had cut them off. Several sinners were joyfully converted to God, and quite a number had their justification renewed, and cleared up, and then consecrated for, and most gave evidence of their entrance into the glorious land of Bible holiness. Yesterday we went to a place where there was much water, and four souls were buried and joyfully raised with Christ, in baptism. It the evening the precious Spirit of God was upon His people during the observance of washing the saint’s feet, and the Lord’s supper. Sinners also fell glory of God upon the assembly, and in response to an invitation to the altar six man came to God. Four wore justified and two claimed entire sanctification. And so the meeting closed with a glorious feast. God bless the dear saints in these parts. We go tomorrow seueral miles east and begin in the vicinity of Beach Springs Po. where we expect to hold several days meetings in two different school-houses, and then be at a meeting appointed some time ago at Collinsville, to begin Dec. 19. Bro. Bradley has been quite poorly and at home some time, but we have received the good news that the Lord has healed him recently. Praise the Lord! A great field is open here, anti effectual. Pray much for us. We are all filled with the Spirit of the living God.

Dear Saints: – May the dear Lord bless and keep you all for Jesus’ sake. Amen. Since the meeting at Wymore spoken of by Bro. Willis and sister Cole and Co. in the Trumpet of Nov. 15, we have been viewing some of this western country and can say, wonderful are the works of God Returning to Table Rock we commenced a meeting three miles north of here in the Morton school house, with small attendance at first but it is getting better every evening and last evening the school house was nearly full. Praise the Lord! They seem seem to be much interested and give good attention to the preaching of God’s Word. Bro. M. M. Stover is with us the most of the time in the meeting. Pray for us that we may be kept in the order of the Lord.

Dearly Beloved Saints: — This morning finds us well and saved. Praise the name of the Lord! We are here in the name of Jesus holding a meeting, and God is at work in the hearts of the people. There have been some saved, and others in a deep study about their souls. Dear brethren, it seems good to forsake all and follow, Jesus, Praise His dear name forever, for what He has done for us in saving our souls from that awful pit, and for leading us out of Babylon, and placing us in the true Church. And has put a new song in our mouths even praises to God, and opened our eyes to the truth of God’s Word. And today we rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory. About three weeks ago we left our home and started out to work for God. It pleased the Father to send us about 9 or 10 miles south east of Dushville to preach, where we bad a glorious meeting, and two holds accepted the truth and were willing to walk in the light. Bro and sister Pierce and sister Smith from Dushville were there. From there we all came to this place about 5 miles south west of Sherman City. May God bless the people, and prepare their hearts for the truth. Pray for us that God may use us to His glory.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — With Christ in the soul every one is victorious, no difference how loudly satan and his coligues may howl. There is coming a day of righteous reckoning, when every one of my Father’s little ones shall be known as God knows them. Your humble sister has bee, nand still is, passing through sore trials. But blessed be God, with the Psalmist “I shall yet praise Him more and more. Yes, beloved, let us listen lovingly, obodient to the wise injunction. Eccl. 11:6, “In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thy hand, for thou knowest not which shall prosper, or whether both alike shall be blest of God.” But oft the most fruitful and blessed of God, bringing the most sheaves, and “well done” in the great harvest of God; though oft bearing sighs, tears, and the reproaches here; and even accounted by many good people perfect failures and wild and fanatic in the extreme. Oh blessed be God! Beloved, “withhold not thy hand” because of there things. Shall we give place to the devil in this day, when our dear Savior and His early followers, and the dear martyrs for His name and cause, suffered all things for His names sake, even death, and torture of their children and loved ones before their eyes. And we fail when He only requires us to endure the worldly and triffling testings of our times. Shall we not rather sutler thus and financialy, that it may rather tall out to the furtherance of the Gospel, the fulfilling of the times of the Gentiles and the snatching of brands from the eternal burnings? pulling them out of the fire suffering the loss of all things, etc., rest fully watching our Lord’s coming to reward His own, and take them unto himself. Shall our hands hang down when God is our strength? Shall we withhold when God hath promised, “I will give you a mouth and wisdom that your enemies can neither gainsay nor resist.” “One shall chase a thousand and two shall put ten thousand to flight. “For it ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed ye shall not only do this thing, and nothing shall be impossible to you.” Any one desiring meeting along the coast let us know. Myself and tent are at your service and all we ask by way of financial help us just enough to defray the necessary expenses of moving. We love to preach the Gospel to the poor and rich alike, and not for “filthy lucre” nor of constraint.
I desire some sister to labor with me. Some one called of God, who has tarried for the anointing, and who understands vocal music. My husband’s business is such that he can not be with me. But the Lord calls me to preach and will excuse me no longer: not even to care for the sick and infirm, which I have been doing for some time.

Watkinsville, Miss. Nov. 23. 1890.
After the assembly we came to Deshler Ohio, where we remained and held meetings with the church about a week. A few souls consecrated to God, and we trust the Gospel done some good to the saints. We found some good souls there but they are unfortunately located in the basest place in some respects we have ever been. The officers of the place, perhaps without exception, depend upon the whiskey clan for their votes, hence dare not prosecute disturbers of the peace for fear they will lose their votes. Hence they hold their office for the sake of the office instead of the peace of society, and let the devil have full sway; and the place is under the curse of lawlesness and crowded with saloons. From Deshler we came direct to Cincinnatti Ohio, where we found a steamboat enroute to Memphis. We got some reduction in fare and went on board; but had to wait two days before it started out, and then it look us four days to reach Cairo, a distance of 500 miles. A boat was due down the Miss. river upon which we had procured very cheap rates through the agent. But it having stuck on a sandbar not far from St. Louis, we waited three days and then the Lord mightily stirred oar souls to find some more swift means to travel. The fire was burning in our hearts and we longed to get out of that place and go forth in the name of the Lord. So we all got together for morning worship, as we had been morning and evening having worship in the sitting room. We opened the Bible fo Isa. 56, and the Lord blest us in the reading. We knew God was doing something for us when we read, “Ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace.” Verses 11—13. All seemed to be specially blest to us as God’s promise we should soon “go out” of that place, and that our tour would be greatly blest and crowned of God, and His Word would accomplish that which He pleased. Glory to Jesus! How His Spirit filled our souls as we confessed in prayer that He would lead us out and prosper our journey, though we knew not how He would do it. After praising Him some moments, we took the R. R. guide and for the first time learned that the Mobile and Ohio R. R. ran from Cairo direct to Meridian. Calling on the city agent we had him dispatch for rates. Praise God! returns came just in time to transfer baggage from the wharf house to the depot, and lake train at 3.40 P. M. That train not going farther than Jackson Tenn. that evening we preferred going that far rather than await through train in the morning. The next day a trip from 10.25 A. M. to 10.30 P. M. landed us in the city of Meridian. That night, Nov. 16 and 17, it was so warm we could scarcely bear more covering than a sheet; and the mosquitos gathered in full choir about our heads, so that we only obtained sleep by using the mosquito bar. But the nights have been cool since and some nights quite cold. During the day it is usually quite warm, same days the sun feels nearly as hot as a harvest day north.
On our journey from Cairo to Meridian, we passed through hundreds of miles along the west end of Tennessee and north east Mississippi that lay a wild woods. Mostly flat wet land, but, doubtless, fertile if dreaned. It looked much like the lowest parts of the Black Swamp in Ohio. There are thousands of acres of land here in Miss. laying in the wild. The land here is high and rolling, clay soil, much of it very poor; but a great deal fine farm land if properly farmed and kept up, as people do in the north. The next day after our arrival we had the happy privilege of meeting dearly beloved Bros. Bradley. Bozeman, and some other saints. As we had expected through past fellowship in the Spirit, so we now find these brethren very humble, pure, selfsacrificing, and zealous souls, who can only be loved hymen of good principles, much more by such as have the Spirit of Christ. They with others have endured much for Christ’s sake and the cause of pure holiness. Some three years ago a number of methodistic spirits heading in Mo. undertook to compress holiness into a little babylon creed at Ft. Scott, (Kan. we suppose.) They sent Bro. Bradley a pack of the little papers and requested him to post them on the places where the holiness people met to worship God, etc. But he, being led of God, consigned the trash to the flames; and the Ft. Scott creed worshipers have made war on him and all who rejected the babel creed ever since.
But these brethren have the fellowship of all pure saints, and the respect and confidence of all honest sinners who know them While the Kiergan clan have, by their much abuse, utterly run themselves out of some localities, and have but few followers any where here in the south.
We held a few meetings in Meridian in private houses, and then the dear brethren conveyed us about fifty miles westward to this place. On the way held meeting one night at Colinsville, and enjoyed talking to a good little company hastily gathered. One soul consecrated to God.
The meeting at this place was rather suddenly gotten up, but a large number of dear brethren and sisters have met us here. A more hungry and eager people for the Word of God we have seldom ever met. Dear souls are begging us to come and hold meetings in every direction. A half dozen companies could be started out from this meeting and put to work. We are praying God to send Bro. J. N. Howard or A. J. Kilpatrick to help on the good work, and we also expect Bro. A. L. Byers. Thus far a few souls have been set free, and many have confessed much benefit from the Gospel and are taking higher grounds. The place of worship is well filled, and although the people are yet busy picking cotton, quite good congregations turn out in the day meetings. The order is very good. Though some nights many cannot get in the house, all is quiet without and within. Bro. Bradley came over with us. Bro. J. J. Jones who has been preaching some three years, was ordained to the ministry last night. Several other precious young ministers have come to the meeting. God bless all His dear people in the south. While most of them have not reached the real summit of Bible holiness, about all seem very humble, willing, and obedient, and will, doubtless, soon reach the glorious overcomer’s plain. We all feel thankful to God that He has sent us here, and assured that we are in His order. After receiving a letter from Bro. Bradley, while at Bro. R. P. Goodings in Ind., we went on our knees, and the Spirit said, “Go south, go forth and I will prosper you.” We said amen. O how the Lord blessed our souls with increased fire and southward bounds from that moment. We had not means then to take us to the Ohio assembly meeting, and nothing for a southern tour. We asked the Lord to direct us. We were soon impressed to write to a few churches and tell the saints how the Lord was leading us, and said to them, send help if the Lord leads. Praise God! wherever we sent there was a prompt response, and now we wish, in the name of Jesus and with all our hearts, to thank you, my beloved of the Lord, for your kindness to us, and to all the dear saints in the south. O if you could see how greatfully the poor people of this sunny land receive the Gospel of God, you would feel richly repaid. Nevertheless, you shall be rewarded in the great day when God shall crown all the holy conquerors, O dearly beloved, I hope that your benefactions to us in this time will rebound with such blessings on your souls that you will all be constrained to be more ready to sow by the side of all waters, by sending thither the feet of the oxen We also wish to thank all the beloved saints who in person so often filled our little purse with silver, so that it seemed almost to multiply in our pocket, while with you in Ohio. God bless you all and make your souls fat in His love. Amen! Pray much for us and the good work here. Amen! Amen!!

Dear Brethren: — May God bless you all. This morning I have a testimony that I am saved by the blood of Jesus, and kept by the mighty power of God, and am resigned to His will as far as the Spirit leads me. I shall leave here in a few days. May it please the good Lord to send some Holy Ghost baptized minister here. The people here are very wicked and conformed to the world.
One poor soul who claims God has given him, through a vision the gift of healing, charges 50 cents for every victim that he can delude and draw into his snare. But Paul says anti-Christs must come, and are now already in the world, and will deceive the elect if possible. But I praise God that He has given us the spirit of discernment that we can discern between the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. John says: “But the anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you; but as the same anointing teacheth you all things, and is truth and is no lie.” Praise the Lord! Peter said to Simon, “thy money perish with thee.” If we follow Jesus we must expect to be evil spoken of. “Woe unto you when all men speak well of you.”

GOD’S POWER MANIFEST.
Dear Saints: — May the blessing of God rest upon you all. The church at this place is still holding on to the faith once delivered to the saints, and God is working in His people. We meet regular and God always meets with us, and gives us the victory. People are coming out to hear the truth, and the Lord sends it with power from Heaven. Praise His name! And the people are being convinced of the truth, and the signs that are following those that believe. Bro. Richardson who tried to run away from God, was stopped by the hand of affliction, and at the meeting he confessed his fault, and called on God for mercy, then obeyed James by calling for the Elders to lay on hands for the healing of his body, and in obedince to the command the room was filled with the power of God, and he received the witness of his healing. Sister Smith who had a lame arm was also healed. The work still moves on.

God has planted a little vine here and it is growing strong, for which we give God all the glory Praise His holy name! We have no place for public worship, but the houses of the saints are glorious; we meet at their homes and shout the praises of God. My testimony is, I am reigning with one Christ Jesus, kept by the mighty power of God. The Lord has put a new song in my mouth even praises to our God. He sanctifies me wholly and keeps me moment by moment. Pray for the upbuilding of His cause at Windsor. Some of the dear ones in the field of the Lord have been this way; let them come again in the name of Jesus, and others that the Lord may so lead.

Dear Saints: — I am praising God for salvation full and complete; reigning in one, Christ Jesus, and kept by the power of God, and in everything giving thanks. God is with us at all times, and we love to do His will as He makes it known unto us Praise His dear name forever! Five of us in company went from this place to Hazel Hill 9 miles west of Nokomis. We commenced meet- in the name of Jesus on the 15th, and closed on the 18th, with victory through the blood of Jesus. Two dear souls were gloriously saved, and others hungry for salvation. We had ordinance service the last night of the meeting. From there we went to Rochester. Ill. and held a meeting. We are saved sanctified and washed in the precious blood of the Lamb, ready to do His will at all times.

Dear Brethren: — We are still praising our God for a complete salvation in Him, which enables us to preach the words of eternal life. And are still holding the fort at St. Petersburg, where Father is wonderfully sifting out the clean wheat, for only such will be able to stand the test when Jesus shall come to gather up His jewels. A little over a year ago we visited this place with Bros. A. J. Kilpatrick and S. L. Speck, and found a little church in a perfect unit for God. But having no one to oversee the flock, the wolf got in among them and caused quite a division. But the Word of God says: “My sheep hear my voice.” And those that will hear the voice are getting back to the fold, where God is melting them together in a perfect unit for Him. Bro. John Morgan was ordained deacon. God bless him and enable him to perform this duty with all faithfulness to God. Amen!

Dear Brethren: — I feel led of the Lord to write my testimony to the Trumpet. I can say this evening that I am enjoying a full and free salvation. The dear Lord is sweetly keeping me free from all sin, and I can say I feel strong in the love of God. I trust Him for all things; I trust Him for my Physician. The dear Lord has healed my little child twice since we came to this new country. I know not how to praise His holy name enough for His wonderful kindness to all those that trust Him. I want to thank all the dear saints, for their kindness to me in this time of need, as I have received money from quite a number of the dear brothers and sisters, which has been a great help to me to live. I know the dear Lord will not let me be in want as long as I trust Him. It does strengthen me so to read their precious letters, and I do pray that God may bless them for their kindness to me. I also request the prayers of the dear saints for the healing of my body. My faith is strong in the Lord. He has promised in His Word, that He would heal us if we would just have the faith, and I do praise God that I have that faith. I can say I am sweetly reigning in this life

Dear Saints: — We are having good meetings. Souls are being saved nearly every night. There is much opposition here- We have the Anti-ordinance people to contend with, but the Lord gives us victory through the name of Jesus, and is helping us to give the Word straight. Meeting has been in progress about a week and there has been about 20 souls saved, and made to shout the high praises of God, and others to cry for mercy. Pray for us.

OBITUARIES.
The wife of Bro. W. H. H. Davis of Frankfort Mich. departed this life Oct 6, 1890. She passed away with the peace of God in her soul. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” — Psa. 110:15
Maple Rapids, Mich.
Died, in Lebenon township Nov. 24, 1890 Bro. Harrison S. Nash, aged 76 years 3 mo. and 14 days. He has been a great sufferer for a number of years, and has been confined to His bed for nearly two years. But God has at last taken him to Himself. We had not seen him for some time before his death, but when we saw him last he said he was ready, and longed to depart. He requested us to preach his funeral sermon over a year and a half ago, and said he wanted us to sing “Home of the soul.” Our text was, “Thus saith the Lord, set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.” — Isa. 38:1. He leaves a wife and eight children to mourn their loss.

Died — at his home near South Haven, Mich. Nov. 7, 1890, Robert Payne, aged 77 years and two days. Father Payne was born at Little Port, Cambridgeshire England, and came to America in 1834, He gave his heart to God a few years ago, and when Bro. Michels held up the true light there about four months ago, he made a complete consecration to the Lord. He leaves an aged wife, children, and many friends to mourn. God bless them all Funeral services by the writer.

A WARNING,
or
AN EXPERIENCE WITH EVIL SPIRITS.

“BELOVED, beleive not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false “prophets are gone out into the world. * * * Every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God; and this is that spirit of anti-christ that should come into the world.” — 1 Jno. 4:1, 3.
We will say that every one that tries to reason away part of the Word of God is anti-Christ, and a deceiver. “Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.” “If there come any unto you and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him Godspeed, he that biddeth him Godspeed is partaker of his evil deeds.”
Dear brethren in Christ, I will give you some of my experience, and if there are any in, or getting into the condition I was in, I pray God that this may be a warning to you. Two years ago God found me in a backslidden state, because I did not obey the call to work for God as I should. I was restored to His favor, and in about six weeks the Lord sanctified my nature. Hallelujah! I went forth then in the power of the Spirit, doing the Master’s will. I had no time, nor inclination to read or listen to any thing that was not of God. Some one asked me if I read the Stumbling Stone. No indeed I have no time to read that sheet, the Plumbline, Gospel of the Kingdom, — not God’s but satan’s Kingdom. — Nor any other papers that are full of darkness. When T. H. Low started his paper, I knew it was a poisonous little sheet. I told the dear children of God that we should not read such anti-Christ stuff. All such papers should be commited to the flames by any true child of God, and not be read nor allowed in the house Before he started his paper, I had met him in meeting, and had no fellowship with him, but had sympathy for his lost soul, and longed to see him saved. Not living over a distance of from 7 to 14 miles from him the last a years, I have known pretty well what his work has been. I know he has no part with, nor influence over such of God’s people who are clear in their souls before God. Nor does he get any one converted to God from the world. Wherever there is any professor who is mixed, confused, and somewhat out of the way, who cannot discern between the Spirit of God, and spirits of devils, there is just where he runs to do his work. I began to lose my zeal for God last winter, and of course my power with God. Then I went to a few meetings Low held. I began to read his paper then, also those others I mentioned. They all taught against the second grace, or holiness of the Bible, and I awoke to find myself in fellowship with him, to ..ome extent. Then I found myself pretty badly tangled up. And in my delusion, Low’s doctrine began to look all right. I said, Lord, you “saved me by the washing of regeneration, and the renewing of the Holy Ghost,” yet I believe Low’s teaching is straight. So I got down on my knees and told God I wanted Him to give me light, because I believe Low is right, and the second work of grace is wrong. But God says to them that do not have pleasure in the truth, He will send strong delusions that they might believe a lie. So it just seemed that the one work theory looked all right, and I went to teaching the Low heresy, and opposing the second work of grace; but I did not give up the ordinances of Christ. But in order to deceive us, when one brother who with myself had lost salvation, and was taking in Low’s spirits, said to him how can you deny the positive ordinances of Christ, he replied: “Well there is something in those scriptures I do not understand, therefore I have made up my mind not to say anything against these ordinances.” This was a trick of the devil to get us to fellowship his servant. And it was a lie, for he kept right on opposing the sacred commands of Christ. After I got into this condition every foul spirit in the country that made a profession, had fellowship with me. And I knew at one time when I was saved and filled with the Spirit of God that they no more received me than they would run into fire. Now it was different. I had become tainted, and the “vultures” were after me. It went on until last June when the grove meeting was here. Bro. Warner fired Gospel shot into the camp, and it hit me. And there was a voice came to me, “What will you do?” O how conscious I became that God had abandoned me. Instead of Him blessing me when it came to the test, He forsook me. What could I do? I came to a point now where I was on the very brink of becoming confirmed in a delusion of the devil, rather than confess and get back to God. O what a mercy that my soul was not there bound in satan’s chains, and become a lost wandering star in the mists of darkness forever. Thank God! He gave me honesty of heart, to say, “Lord I will hear thy word, and do thy will.” That night when the last one had left the grove, it being on the place where I lived, I, like Peter after he denied Christ, went out and wept bitterly. I promised God I would confess my error to the saints, which I did, and one night at a brother’s house I got down at the altar and cried for mercy. O bless God He pardoned all my sins. Others who had believed Low’s doctrine, and somewhat drank in his spirit, had to get down and repent as well as myself. I am confident no person can receive Low’s spirit, or doctrine and keep salvation. How can any one who knows the ordinances of Christ are right believe for a moment that Low is right, who rejects them. Such can only be accounted for by the delusive power of the devil. Bless God, I have escaped from the snares of the devil, and know God will ever rule this to my good, and it has all worked out to the glory of God at this place. When there was a week’s meeting here last October, I was very hungry for entire sanctification and I believe I was the first to the altar, and the very God of peace sanctified me wholly. O bless His name! I am pure and free again, and I do wish to admonish every soul that reads these words, to never put your soul under the power of satan and darkness, by fellowshiping such pernicious spirits as T. H. Low, or any other man that teaches his false doctrine. If you know that the Spirit of God leads us into all truth, you surely know that every spirit that opposes some of the truth is of the devil. May God keep His people saved in Christ, and the truth. Amen!

Dear Saints: — To the Lord be all the glory for a salvation that saves from sin, and keeps us in the way of the Lord. When I heard the Word preached as it is in Jesus, I said amen to it, and presented my body a living sacrifice to Jesus. I have peace with God, praise His holy name forever. Some tell us we cannot live without sin, but the blessed Word tells us, if the first fruit be holy the lump is also holy, and if the root be holy so are the branches. — Rum. 11:26. This overthrows the doctrine of men, with me. “Let God be true, though every man a liar. I do praise my blessed Savior for showing me this blessed way to get cleansed from all sin.

Dear Saints: — God bless you all abundtantly, and keep you continually. I feel like praising God this morning more than ever before, on account of His wonderful dealings with me. I had an experience with the erroneous teaching of sect religion for fifty years. But since, I have been made to enjoy this evening light by the second work of grace, by baptism of the Holy Ghost, I can truly say that God through His Son and the Holy Ghost has done more than I could have thought or asked, since He has bestowed this sealing power, about two years and a half ago, upon me, which binds all of His dear children to Him with one bundle of love. I have been a widow twenty years, and now I am three score and fifteen years old; and my title is clear for the Kingdom for I have it all in my soul. Hallelujah! We have a little church here with five of us to shout the high praises of God continually. Hallelujah! And we have regular prayer meeting Sunday at Bro. Robinsons, and every Tuesday evening at sister Frisbie’s. When the Lord wills we have a prayer meeting every time we are together. But we are holding on by faith that God will move upon the hearts of the people of this place to get saved. We want all the saints to pray for the salvation of souls here, for they are being deluded by the hirelings. We hope some of the Holy Ghost elders and brethren will come over and help us.

Dear Saints of God: — I am saved and sanctified by a second work of grace and walking in the light of the Gospel. I was converted four years ago, but the devil got me to believe that there was but one work of grace to be wrought in the soul, and I thought I got it all at one time. I soon soon lost my salvation, but kept on professing. But when I heard the truth preached last summer, I was shown by the word of God that I was a “withered branch.” So, I cried unto the Lord and He heard my cry, forgave my sins and grafted me into the Vine, and now I am walking in the “light as He is in the light.” Praise His holy name.

THE LORD HEALETH OUR DISEASES.

To the glory of God I will tell of His wonderful love and dealings with me. During the Gratiot camp-meeting last Aug. I was taken sick, and the attack was so severe that I could scarcely endure the pain. My body was wrecked with pain, and my left eye greatly affected, and I also became almost deaf for awhile. Death stared me in the face, as I grasped for breath. And the brethren anointed me and laid on hands in the name of the Lord, and asked Him to heal me, which He did. And I was made to shout His praises for His goodness to me. In the morning I arose and dressed without the assistance of any one else, and walked over to the campground, and they said it seemed almost as if the dead had come to life. I now have the Erysipelas on my face, but know the Lord will heal me of that too. His love fills my soul with joy unspeakable and full of glory. Pray for me.

Dear Saints: — May the choicest blessings of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ rest upon you. I do praise the Lord for perfect deliverance from sect babylon. When I was 17 years old I joined the S. D. A. sect, and belonged to it about 8 years, and I heard the blessed voice of Jesus say “Come out of her my people that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues; for her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.” “Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double.” The cup which she hath filled fill to her doable.” And I obeyed the voice of Jesus, and come out of her, and the Lord gave me victory over the beast and over his name; and he sweetly keeps me just now by His saving power, ready to be revealed in the last day when He comes to make up His jewels. I am satisfied with this glorious experience of salvation, and am walking in the light as He is in the light. The Word of God says: “but if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.” I have given up all to follow Jesus wherever He eads. “He leadeth me in green pastures. He leadeth me beside still waters, He restoreth my soul. He leadeth me in the path of righteousness for His name’s sake.” The Word is a light unto my pathway, and lamp to my feet. And His Word is forever settled in my heart. I am built on the Rock Christ Jesus, where the gates of hell will not prevail against me, and my name is written in the Lamb’s book of life.

To all the Saints Greeting: — How I love God’s people, and how I love to read their testimonies. It does my heart so ranch good to see so many standing firm for Jesus, and holding the blood stained banner high above all else. And this is true: “If Christ be lifted up He wall draw all men unto Him.” But dear saints, we can not be too active for Christ. We see the powers of darkness all over our land, and men going to ruin, and some for the want of some one to hold up Christ before them. How necessary it is for our lamps to be hanging out to the world; for in these days perilous times will come, and all of the forces of satan will be out and busy trying us on some new point or in some way as never before, then, I say it is necessary to grow in grace and in the knowledge of Christ. As Christ leads us out into new fields to explore more and more of His beauties, you will find the tempter there. Then I say hasten to the work as never before. I am glad and rejoice in a salvation that leads in all things. Glory to God! I am exploring more and more day by day. He is my all and in all, and I am simply trusting Jesus everyday. and going in the harrow way with Jesus. Glory to God! How I love His ways. His ways are my ways and I am nothing Amen. What joy it is to be so dead to self that we become nothing. I am saved, and washed in the blood.
