Look not back at her Burning.

—:o:—

By W. B. Fields.

Are you free from sectarian bands,
The wicked work of the devil’s hands?
Have you left all babel confusion,
The devil’s workshop of delusion?
Are you now free in the Lord Jesus
Who alone has the power to save us?
Yes, praise the Lord! He has set me free,
Jesus shed the cleansing blood for me,
And I am washed and made clean and white,
How I’ll walk and work in the clear light.

Since you have left babel’s filthy net,
Do you ever look back with regret,
And mourn for the good name you have lost,
And popular friends so great a host?
Do you think her charms will draw you back
To walk with her in the same old track?
No. Praise the Lord! He will keep me free;
Jesus shed the cleansing blood for me,
And I am washed and made clean and white,
How I’ll walk no more in her dark night.

Have you forsaken all carnal pride
That Jesus might come and with you abide?
Do you let your salvation light shine
That others may see that it is divine?
Do you love to talk of salvation,
And turn others from condemnation?
Yes. Praise the Lord! from all pride I am free,
Jesus shed the cleansing blood for me
And I am washed and made clean and white,
Sow I’ll let salvation shed its light.

Do you leave your dear wife and children,
And spend the evening in satan’s den,
Drinking and gambling in the saloon,
Sowing the seed to ruin you soon,
And bring upon your children disgrace
That you me rearing to fill your place?
No. Praise the Lord! that shall no more be,
Jesus shed the cleansing blood for me,
And I am washed and made clean and white,
How I’m fully saved both day and night.

Are you ruled by the tobacco king
Who has his way in every thing?
He does your nerves so derange
That it makes you act wonderful strange,
And your mouth and breath does so pollute,
That you cannot give the holy salute;
No. Praise the Lord! He has set me free,
Jesus shed the cleansing blood for me,
And I am washed and made clean and white,
Now I no more in such filth delight

Praise the Lord for complete salvation
Which saves us from all condemnation;
And casts out fear and gives us great peace,
And our pleasures in life doth increase
And gives a blessed hope beyond this
Where we shall dwell in eternal bliss;
O! Praise the Lord! He has set me free,
Jesus shed the cleansing blood for me,
And I am washed and made clean and white,
Now I’ll walk in salvation’s pure light.

ECONOMY.

Dearly Beloved saints and readers of the TRUMPET. The increase of the business connected with the TRUMPET OFFICE makes it a matter of necessity to adopt some other method of acknowledging receipts of money, etc., than an answer to each sender by letter or card. Time fails to answer all business letters. Besides it costs nearly $2.00 per month just for postal cards, and much more for stamps.

So hereafter the dear saints will excuse us for receipting their money sent to this office, by publishing a list of names of persons who have remitted, from one issue to another. If any one’s remittence does not appear on the list, write and make inquiries.

In all business communications do not omit your Post Office.

Matter written for the paper must be written with ink: dim pencil writing soon becomes unreadable, and is unfit to set from.

Joseph.

THE LORD HELPETH THE NEEDY

that put their trust in Him, and forsaketh not His saints. It will be a cause of much gratitude in the hearts of all the holy people, to learn that God has heard and answered prayer in behalf of that son of Bro. Pennington, of Winfield Kan., who was so sorely oppressed of the devil, and afflicted, for whom prayers have been asked in the TRUMPET. Bro. Pennington writes us as follows.

“Dear Bro., God bless you. Words fail us to express our heart-felt thanks for your kind letter of comfort, and consolation, and the substancial assistance sent us.” “May God richly bless all who have so kindly given us help in time of need. Wife joins in prayers for God’s blessings upon you all. Arthur also has prayed for God to bless all the kind donors. The dear boy is better, and apparently well. He has gained about 24 pounds in flesh, in the last month. Glory be to God! had wrestled much with God in prayer for him, but I felt I must have assistance from the saints. The boy began to amend almost immediately.

There will be a camp meeting held in this part of Kansas some time next summer, the Lord willing. There will be an effort to get you and Bro. Fisher to take charge of it, through God. “At the noise of the faking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations.” Amen! Pray for us.

Your Bro. in full salvation.

DISJOINTED FROM BABYLON.

—:o:—

Vanderbilt Mich. Dec. 19.

Dear Friends. I am in receipt of a number of GOSPEL TRUMPETS of you. I have enjoyed reading them. It is an excellent good thing to have a religion that is real. A saving truth.

I wish to ask you a few questions which you may answer in an editorial, as many others would like to hear also.

1st. I am aware that you detest sectism. Do you have any name for your people? If so, what is it ?”

Ans — We have no people. Every body belongs either to God or to the devil. By reading the Word you will find that the people of God are called Christians, Believers, Saints, etc. In their collective body they are called, “The Body of Christ,” “The Church of God,” i. e., “the Church of the Living God.” “The Church of the First-born, which are written in Heaven.” “The Church of all saigts,” etc. Collectively in the various geographical locations, they are called “The Churches,” of any given district or country, i. e., “The Churches of God,” or “Churches of Christ.” 2nd question. “Do you not, in discarding the ten commandments, cause yourselves to be out of joint with all the reformers of the past, and the christian world in general?”

Ans. So every reformer was out of joint with every other reformer that preceded him, on all points of advance truth. If Luther, or some one else had not got out of joint with Rome, we would all still be jointed up in the carcas of that first great beast, And if God had not unjointed other teachers from Lutheranism we would all be jointed together as staves in that beer-tub, and bound together with the hoops of a Lutheran oath. We praise God to-day for the “Word of God, which is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” And this Word of Eternal truth has utterly disjointed us from all the traditions, doctrines, creeds, confessions, and works of the dark ages of sect confusion. If we were in joint with the reformers and teachers of Protestantism, we would be in joint with the second beast, which “exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him.” — Rev. 13:12.

While the reformers all discovered certain points of Divine truth, before hid in the rubbish of the apostasy, they carried with them the main bulk of the superstitions and traditions of the “harlot house” out of which they were thrust. And their new creed was a jointing together of the new discoveries and the old mummeries. But full salvation, and the glorious evening light, has cut every ligament, and perfectly disjointed us from the first beast — Romanism, the second beaat — Protestantism, and from the image of the beast —Associationism.

And having come “unto the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the slight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive. But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into Him in all things, which is the Head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, making increase of the Body unto the edifying of itself in love.” — Eph. 4:13-16.

Thus we are jointed together by the love of God and power of truth in the Body of Christ, all folding Him the head, and disjointed from all traditions of men, and doctrines of devils. We know we are perfectly joined together with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with the Word of God, and also with the teachers of the early Church, before the beast was setup. And we thank God that we are not in harmony with the anti-christ babel confusion which you call the “Christian world.”

Again you tell us, “There are clouds of mists which blind my eyes, arise before me when I read the Sabbath Tract, which puts away those ten words.”

Unwitingly you have here revealed the dark condition of your soul. “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” — John 8:12.

“If we say that we have fellowship with with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth.” — 1 John 1:6. We beseech you to call upon God to “deliver you from the power of darkness, and translate you into the kingdom of His dear Son.” — Col. 1:13. “What communion hath light with darkness?” — None. Therefore when the pure light of God’s Word comes before your mind it stirs up, and reveals the darkness of your saturnarian idol, and shows you the mists while living under the curse of the law.

Dear friend, we speak unto you in love, therefore use plainness of speech. You wished to convey the idea that there is something wrong in the position of the Sabbath tract, hence the “clouds of mists which blind your eyes” in reading the same. But unto us which “walk in the light, as He (God) is in the light, “there is no darkness at all.” When we read the truth we know it is the truth, and all is light. And when we read error, we know it is error, and no “clouds of mists blind our eyes.” It is only a heart that is in the mists and fogs of error, that can have your experience.

3rd question. “There is an array of passages which run through my mind like these. — “But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in His law doth he meditate day and night.” — Psalm 1:2. “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.” — Psa. 19:7. If it was perfect why was it done away? If it was able to convert the soul, why was it abolished?

Ans. Dear sir; if you should ever be so happy as to enter the glorious dispensation of the Holy Spirit, and read the Psalms in the light of the Spirit of God, you will find that they contain a glorious prophetic description of New Testament Spirituality. David was, in the providence of God, permitted to pass through a wonderfully great variety of life; of exaltation, banishment and victory, honor and dishonor, poverty and wealth: so that under his varied vicisitudes of life, and the Spirit of inspiration, he has been able to write something that touches nearly every point in all Christian experience.

The Psalms do not so much treat on the law but they breathe the Spirit of the Gospel. What is said in the above texts do not apply to the ten commandments, but to the law of Christ. Conversion is the experience of the pardon of sins, and it is not true that the ten commandments convert the soul. Because no pardon is promised in those ten commandments. It was “the ministration of death written and engraven on stone.” — 2 Cor. 3:7.

The Gospel is the ministration of mercy and pardon.

To “convert the soul” is the same as to justify the soul. Are souls justified by the law? No. “Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be jutsifted.” — Gal. 2:16.

But we are “justified freely by His (Christ’s) grace, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” — Rom. 3:24. “The law came by Moses — the whole legal economy — but grace and truth by the Lord Jesus Christ.” Again we are “justified by faith.” — Rom. 5:1. And “the law is not of faith” — Gal. 3:12. The law system, and the faith of Jesus that converts the soul, are not of each-other, do not blend in the same dispensation.

While the law was all right for the object desired by it, it was not perfect, at all, as adapted to the Kingdom of God. If the law had been perfect, it would have made men perfect, but this it could not do.

“For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.” — Heb. 7:19.

“But now hath He obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also He is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah.” — Heb. 8:6-8

If that covenant, written on stone was not “faultless,” and the New Testament is a “more excellent ministry,” surely the faulty, and less excellent, cannot be said to be perfect. And it being declared imperfect, cannot be the law David speaks of.

Again, see Psalm 89:34 — “my covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.” “He says He will not break it nor alter it.”

Ans. How do you know that the words above refer to the ten commandment covenant? You ought to know what you are talking about, before you venture your own assertions. You should have read the connection, and seen that the covenant here spoken of has no allusion to the law covenant at all, but to God’s special covenant with David.

To apply 1 John 5:3, to the ten commandments, is utter blindness, and sectish perversity. You know that God “speaks to us in these last days by His Son.” You know that the voice of God from Heaven said, “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased, hear ye Him.” Peter said, “it shall come to pass that whosoever will not hear that prophet — Christ — shall be destroyed from among the people.” Christ commissioned no one to enjoin the law given on Sinai; but told His ministers to teach the people to “observe whatsoever He had commanded.” Other points upon which our questioner Mr. C. Corless, is stumbling about on the dark mountains, we cannot take space to notice. Some of them are made so plain in the Sabbath tract, that any person not having the law veil over his heart cannot fail to understand. And until he “turns to the Lord,” the same veil will remain untaken away, whatever we or any one else may write. Turn to the Lord brother and get salvation, and your clouds of mist will all pass away.

__________

DID WE ORGANIZE?

—:o:—

Quakertown, Pa. Jan. 19.

Dear Brethren: — Find enclosed 20 cts. for two Church tracts and one Sabbath tract.

I read the GOSPEL TRUMPET with much interest. But I wish to know more of your work. I am tired of sect work, church religion, and so are many others around here.

1st. Have you no organization? 2nd. Did you not form a new Church, or sect? I want more light about your course. Yours truly.

I. S. Stauffer.

ANSWER.

For the benefit of many who have not known this glorious return from Babylon to Mount Zion from the beginning, we answer these questions thus publicly.

1st. “Have you no organization?” We have none that we call ours. But God has one which He bought, built, and organized Himself, into which we are happy to have been organized, or builded together through the Spirit. God’s Church is an organization, an organic body.

The word “organization,” is defined by Webster, as the “act of organizing,” a “structure.” “Act of distributing into suitable parts.” “The condition of an organized body,” etc. Now that the Church, the body of Christ is an organization, an organized body is evident to any reader of the New Testament. The only question remaining to be settled is, who is the Organizer? The word organize, is defined by “To furnish with organs,” “To arrange in parts,” “to form in due order,”

Now He that furnishes the Church with organs, and arranges the parts, or members, in due order, is He that organizes, That is, God Himself through the Holy Spirit. “Take heed therefore unto your selves, and to all the flock, over which the Holy Spirit hath made you overseers, (i. e., bishops according to the Greek,) to feed the Church of God which He hath purchased with His own blood. — Acts 20:28.

“And He gave some, apostles: and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers: For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ.” Eph. 4:11-13.

Here we see that God gave all the gifts and offices in the Church; fully equipping the same, unto a perfect man, namely a perfect organic body. In 1 Cor. 12:8-10, the various gifts of the Church are spoken of, and then verse 11 adds, — “But all these worketh that one and the self-same Spirit, dividing to every man severally as He will.” God, by the Spirit, furnishes the organs. That is one definition of organizing. But who sets the members into the body, and organizes them in harmonious relation to each-other, and each one to the whole? Answer, God, by the Spirit.

“For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit, But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased Him. For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honor to that part which lacked.” — 1 Cor. 12:13, 18, 24.

These words with the above quotations, cover all that is contained in our English word organize, and it is all ascribed to God through the Spirit. It is nevertheless true that the Acts and Epistles talk of men ordaining Elders, and Deacons by the laying on of hands. This does not conflict with the above Scriptures. God ordains by choosing, and qualifying, and men ordain such as God has ordained, by way of recognizing and dedicating to the work whereunto the Spirit has appointed them.

2nd “Did you not form a new church, or sect?” Ans. No, we have utterly renounced all human organizing, constructing, and tinkering. We preach the Word, and God gives the increase. The Church only “increases with the increase of God,” in any given place. We constantly affirm that “ye are complete in Him.” — Christ. Col. 2:10. We have no authority, believe and (each no authority but that given by the truth and the Holy Spirit. He gives us “all authority” — Titus 2:15. All power in Heaven and earth is given to Christ, and “of His fulness have we received.” The Church is wholly operated by God Himself, for “It is the same God which worketh all in all.” — 1 Cor. 11:6. Praise God! He displayed His ability to keep and govern His Church in holiness, and harmony without sects, for over two hundred years at the beginning, and so He has several years now, since our return from babylon to Zion. From the sects written in the earth — Jer. 17:13, to the “Church of the First-born which are written in Heaven.” — Heb. 12:22-24.

From the devil’s wife, the whore that rides upon the beast of carnal policy — Rev. 17, to the Bride, the Lamb’s Wife, who is clothed in fine linen, the righteousness of saints. — Rev. 19:6, 8, 14. Rev. 21:2, 3, 9, 10, 11.

God has called us, first to repentance, then to perfect holiness, and that is unto freedom and liberty from every power of men and devils, so that each child of God walks in perfect freedom. Goes and labors where and when the Lord sends, and yet as God works all in all, and He “is not the author of confusion,” all the saints move, and work in perfect and sweet harmony.

Daniel.

OBITUARY.

—:o:—

Summer Mich.

Dear Brethren: — I feel sad an lonely as my dear companion was taken from me Jan. 20., She was greatly afflicted in body and suffered a great deal, but she left a bright evidence that she was prepared to meet Jesus. Although I have bitter trials God delivers me out of them all. Praise His name! Your Bro. in Christ, saved and sanctified.

POPULAR HOLINESS.

—:o:—

To avoid persecution, many holiness teachers of to-day are compromising God’s Holy Word to suit the carnally minded sectarian opposition, and are substituting human theories for Bible truth, and pure Bible holiness experience.

Capt. R. Kelso Garter in. Times of Refreshing of Jan. 1887, uses this language. “Friends, when you accuse us of teaching ‘sinless perfection,’ you seriously mistake. We simply believe and proclaim that the God of all power is able to save to the uttermost. We hold and declare that Jesus Christ is able to ‘paralyze’ the ‘old man’ or ‘carnal mind,’ or old nature.”

Praise God! the first work of Gospel grace not only binds or paralyzes the old or strong man, but even repentance, the first step in that direction stops people from sinning. Hence “whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin.” — 1 John 3:9. So R. K. Carter’s standard of sanctification is only the Bible standard of Justification. Therefore when we accuse him, and all other sectish compromising holiness teachers of teaching “sinless perfection” or entire sanctification, we seriously mistake” for they do not mean real Bible holiness at all. The “old man” only “paralyzed that just suits the devil and carnal professors. See Rom. 6:6 — “Our old man is crucified with Him (i.e., dead with Christ) that the body of sin (carnal mind) might be DESTROYED,” not paralyzed only. When we leave the light of Revelation and Holy Ghost experience and take up human theories, we soon find ourselves arrayed against Christ, yea anti-christ and fight for the “old man” with his deeds, sin &c., therefore fail to live and teach “sinless perfection. Jesus Christ lived and taught sinless perfection, and declares “he that is perfect shall be as his Master.” Hallelujah! This so called holiness is quite popular in many places, as it does not uproot carnality or sectism, and all men speak well of it, because it upholds their idolatry and gives people license to do and believe about as they choose.

No doubt many are honestly professing holiness, as there experience reaches about the standard held up as holiness; and others once reached the real experience, but failed to walk in the light, and are backslid, walking in darkness, yet can point to the day and spot when they were sanctified, therefore conclude they are still saved yet, and hope some day their joys will return. &c. What vain delusions of satan to deceive honest souls whose experience does not measure up to the New Testament perfection. The author of the article refered to, sees a very beautiful babylonish garment in “paralyzing the old man.” Yet it would be such a protection against the attacks of the enemies of Bible holiness, that he just puts it on and cries out, “Friends, when you accuse us of teaching ‘sinless perfection,’ you seriously mistake,” or in other words as you are sinners so are we; as you believe in sinful perfection, or sinful holiness — you see we do too. Hence we are friends. Of course “the world loves its own.” The world, sect babylon and the devil all fight for each other. May God help all true holy people to raise the standard of holiness to New Testament perfection. — Matt. 5:48. “Put off the old man with his deeds” — Col. 3:9; not paralyze him. Break the chord, if Siamese twins both die. Amen! That is the secret with these compromisers, they are not dead yet in the Bible sense — “dead indeed to sin.” Hallelujah! “Put on the new man, which after God is cheated in righteousness and true holiness;” not sinful holiness, but “sinless perfection.” This paralyzing theory is the same error as advocated by the late M. E. commentator. When under the snake head, strap down theory, “that carnality is like the rails on the track, as long as spiked down the train runs all right and smooth; but if the ends of the rails turn up, the train will run off the track” &c. Making carnality the track to run holiness on. “‘To be carnally minded is death.” Hence the devil gets that kind of holiness. Jesus says I am the way the truth and the life.” “He that climbeth up some other way the same is a thief and a robber.” Any way to retain the carnal mind and profess holiness. Surely the devil will white-wash all such: but Jesus will wash all white, who will let Him destroy all the works of satan — “the old man with his deeds.” The Pharisees were like whited sepulchers, but Jesus said, “thou blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and the platter, that the outside may be clean also, and “except your righteousness exceed the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter the kingdom of Heaven.” Be sure and know that you are washed in the blood of the Lamb, and don’t let any one whitewash you and make you think all is well, while the old man remains in your being. “Be filled with the Spirit,” leaves no room for carnality. Hallelujah! We cannot be filled with the Spirit while any carnality remains. Therefore to obey this command we must first be emptied of all carnality. The carnal mind is enmity against God, — (Rom. 8:7) therefore no part of God’s Kingdom at all, but is opposed to everything good and never enters Heaven. For without holiness no man shall see God.

As faithful watchmen upon the walls of Zion, we must constantly warn all saints of God to keep looking to God, the only rock of our salvation. Again and again we must remind you that we are in “perilous times,” and every soul is unsafe until you get so deeply rooted into God, that the fall of your dearest friends who are in Christ, and have your utmost confidence, would not shake your soul in the least.

Not long ago dear Bro. Spaulding, foreman of the GOSPEL TRUMPET OFFICE, had a vision in which the house was all on fire. But looking up they felt no alarm, and though the building utterly burned away leaving them right out in the open air, none that kept looking up suffered any harm. Presently the fire spread throughout the entire city. It was a beautiful golden city. It seemed as though it would all soon be in ashes. But behold when the fire passed off, the city of gold still survived unharmed. But some who did not continue to look up, but looked at the fire, had fallen and perished. Dear ones this fire is to try every man’s foundation. It is the great trials that all must pass through in order to be the pure gold tried in the fire. O what a lesson! Please for your soul’s sake do not forget it. Whatever may come, keep looking up. Whoever may fall, keep looking up. Whatever apparent wrong any person in whom you have the greatest confidence, may manifest, keep looking up. Though members one of another, we are also “members of Christ,” and it is from Him our salvation cometh. Keep looking up to God, and what at first appeared to be an all consuming fire, an utter destruction of the whole City, (the holy Church of God) you will soon find has only refined the gold and increased the glory of the City. God sitteth in the Heavens, He beholdeth the things that are in all the earth and He over-ruleth all things to His glory. That which may appear to our eyes as an awful destruction of His City, will, to all who keep looking up, doubtless be followed by a more bright and heavenly appearance of the same. It every child of God will only keep in God, keep saved and in the Spirit of God, you need not worry about the Church, God will take care of His own house. We recollect one morning of a heated election day, a man who had, not long before lost salvation, came up to us and asked if we were not going to vote today. On being told we would not, he was amazed that we were not ready to rally to “save the country.” We remarked that the best thing we could do to save the country was to keep saved ourself, and then we were sure there was that much of the country saved. Many professed children of God, in there wild enthusiasm to save the country have lost their own souls. So also many persons by worrying about God’s Church have allowed the devil to destroy that part of the Church represented by their own soul and body.

In the vision refered to, God spake to Bro. Spaulding and said, “Be of good cheer for the gates of hell cannot prevail against this great cause of truth.”

About a week later, the Lord appeared to the Bro. in a second vision. He thought he was going out to the Office early in the morning, as his custom was, and, behold the large building was all burned to the ground. Be looked with wonder and amazement. And remembering the promise of the Lord, he said, “Lord how is this? Did you not promise me that the gates of hell should not prevail against this work? The voice of God said, “LOOK UP.” He raised his eyes, and behold, from the flames above there came forth miriods of GOSPEL TRUMPETS and sailed abroad in every direction. Praise God! Let the fires of trouble, opposition and trial come, the higher the flames the more GOSPEL TRUMPET will wing their flight out of them, and go everywhere preaching the everlasting Gospel. Three years ago the Lord gave I my soul such a wonderful promise and consolation that filled me with everlasting comfort and assurance. And from that time to this all burden has been lifted from my heart. Only look up my beloved and leave with God all things you cannot understand, and he will take care of it all, and you also. KEEP LOOKING UP. Amen!

Daniel.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

—:o:—

Our last report was just after we landed in Grant Co. Ind. We had a joyful meeting of the dear little ones there. Found them in the Spirit, leaping, and shouting the praises of God.

We began the work of throwing ire in the station of Mier. The Universalists having most courteously given us the use of their house, for which kindness we returned our love by thoroughly scourging them with the Word of God. “For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth and soourgeth.” The place was fearfully dark with infidelity. God helped us to pour the Word of God upon them, and the vials of wrath without mixture. And we realized that the truth was taking deep effect. Many acknowledged the truth. Two souls were saved, one converted, and one came out of babylon and was wholly sanctified. Possibly a general work might have been done, but the saints having from 3 to 7 miles to drive to the meeting, and we also having to go with them, we thought it rather hard to continue the siege. So we moved to Sweetser and opened up worn in the large school-house. God wonderfully worked upon the hearts of the people, quite general conviction prevailed. Several souls were saved. One young sister had been seeking salvation two years in the M. E. sect, and finding none, renounced the sect, rose in the meeting to speak for Christ, and instantly the Spirit of God came on her in power. Her sister was saved that day at the altar, her mother renounced the sect, and received the glory of God in her soul, and shouted His praises. Her son soon after followed and gave his heart to Jesus. God bless that family, and save them all.

The M. E. priest was carrying on meeting in their house near by, and God confounded the works of babylon, by letting the devil set the preacher and sinners to carnal lowing. They hail a fracas at the meeting house. They prosecuted the priest and made him pay a fine, and then he retaliated, and prosecuted them. Their meeting failing to win the crowd, a popular lecturer was procured, but the large school-house continued full, and the work of God went on in spite of the devil.

Bro. Fisher having gone home to the office, wrote for us to come also as we were needed. The interest of the meeting was such that we thought we should by no means leave. But as we fasted and prayed, the Spirit of God bade us go immediately, assuring us that He would put His Spirit on dear Bro. Barney Warren, and cause him to preach (he Word to the people. Also dear Bro. Wm. Bragg who has the glorious anointing to preach the glorious Gospel. Praise God! though the little ones were loth to have us leave so suddenly, the grace of God enabled all to say amen, and in a few moments we were on our way to the station, and several hours ride on Father’s swift chariots lauded ns at the TRUMPET OFFICE once more, after an absence of 5 months. O praise God for His glorious blessings on our soul and body. O how wonderfully His grace is bestowed upon us. Having had no ministerial help, have preached nearly all the time twice a day, with much altar work, singing, etc., besides doing one man’s writing, keeping the TRUMPET filled, having a large correspondence, hymn writing etc. It is wonderful, a constant miracle, how God can do so much through a poor, naturally frail body. We scarcely get six hours sleep out of twenty-four. Glory be to God! we do love this holy war for our God, against the powers of hell, and for the rescue of perishing souls. If the Lord saw fit to keep us working the whole time day and night, and sustained us, we should say amen.

O how glad we were to see the beloved little ones at home once more. God bless their souls. How grateful we are to God for the faithful labors of these dear little

Page 3

ones. They truly endure all things for the elect’s sake, that their fingers may send forth the bread of Heaven to the hungry souls. Dear brethren when you read the TRUMPET so eagerly, do not forget to pray for those blessed children who are so devoted to this great work. We were in hopes that God would give us the sweet luxury of some nights rest with the little ones at home. But lo, here came the dear saints from every direction wishing Bro. Joseph and I to come here and there and preach for them. For a few weeks past satan had made a terrible havoc upon the Church at the Geneva Center meeting house, and things were badly torn to pieces there, and by reason of the troubles, a number of the younger in the faith had fallen. So we could not refuse this call. Bro. Joseph, not feeling well, and also very busy with his music, the Lord sent us over, and we came with a “rod of iron,” “sword,” and fire, a good supply of hail, and began to make vigorous war upon the devil. Glory be to God for victory! The first night six came to the altar. Two renewed their consecration for entire sanctification, and by the laying on of hands received the glorious baptism of the Holy Spirit. The rest were restored. We continued a few days, until over Sabbath, and quite a number of souls were recaptured from the old dragon, the devil, and satan, and there was joy in Heaven and on earth. Glory to Jesus! One soul would not get down under the blood, and was utterly driven out by the fire of God. A few sinners were converted, and we hope God will prosper His work here.

When we left our little company, we expected to return soon again, but, as the second edition of Songs of Victory are nearly exhausted, we had to remain here to help print the third edition soon, so we expect to send for our little company soon.

Praise God! nearly 3500 books have gone forth singing the praises of God, The glorious work is prospering every way. Between the last two issues the subscription increasing 60 names, and now the last week 47 new names have come in. May God speed all His flying angels with the everlasting Gospel, to this dark and wretched world so near its awful doom. Amen!

Carlisle, Mich. Jan. 15.

Dear Brethren: — We have closed another meeting wherein God was glorified. Praise His holy name! We began meeting in the name of Jesus on the last night of Dec. 1886, in the Hinkley school-house which continued over Sunday, then we went from there to Lacey Lake, and continued our meetings in private houses.

God was with as from the beginning. Dear Bro. Smurr was with us. There was great prejudice in the hearts of the people the straight Word of God, but God helped us to give them the truth as it is in Christ Jesus. Glory to His name! There were eight converted and several sanctified.

Well we are saved and sanctified wholly by the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Wm. N. Smith & A. J. Shelly.

LATER.

Tekonsha, Mich. Jan. 27.

Dear Brethren: — We are well and saved, and filled with the Holy Spirit. Hallelujah! We have been having a great battle here. There were about 20 or 23 here that had not joined any sect, but were full of carnallity. After we had preached a few sermons, two thirds is of them left and went to holding meetings in another place; but they are coming back slowly. A few souls sanctified. They have left everything of the world, and taken Christ. Glory to His name! Their former preacher and wife, have given themselves a living sacrifice to God, to go and preach the Everlasting Gospel, wherever the Lord leads. O may God bless you all abundantly. We are praying mightily for you all.

—:o:—

Edgewood Mich. Jan. 17, ’87.

Dear Brethren: — May the God of peace bless and keep you all in the unity of the faith and Spirit. Amen! O glory to God and the Lamb forever! Myself and family left home at Maple Rapids on Dec. 12, came to Edgewood, and found the Church of she Living God engaged in erecting a house of worship. While engaged in arranging the logs at the top of the building, the seatfolding gave way and three young men were hurled to the ground. Brother Frank Hill, and Bro. Aufrey Putnam were hurt. Bro. Frank dislocated his knee cap, and had to be carried home on a board. They sent for Bro. Will Flegel, and sister Jennie Wight, who have the gift of healing. They laid hands on him and prayed, and the mighty power of God filled the house. Bro. Frank got up and started to walk, and his knee cap went into place, and he walked the floor and praised God, and has been all right ever since. Bro. Aufrey had his wrist badly sprained, and on Sabbath evening, after meeting, he called on the Elder, and we anointed his wrist in the name of the Lord, and laid on hands, and he was instantly healed. Praise God for His mighty power!

We went into LaFayette and held one weeks meeting, and the Lord wonderfully helped us to preach the Word. The saints were wonderfully strengthened.

We came back to Edgewood and commenced meeting on Christmas night, and continued one week. The mighty power of God was present, and there were five souls saved. Vilda Martin who has been deaf since a small child consecrated for entire sanctification, and the Lord impressed me by the Spirit, to anoint her, and I obeyed the Spirit, and she was healed. Praise the Lord! O the mighty power of God that was manifest. Glory! glory! to God. I have moved to Edgewood. We are saved and kept by the mighty power of God. O how I love this holy war. Glory to God for victory!

Oakland Mills, Iowa, Jan. 26.

Dearly Beloved Brethren: — May the Lord bless you all, and keep yon by His mighty power. We praise God for victory in our soul this morning. We are at home again, called by our dear wife’s illness. Praise God for the glorious victory at Hayesville Iowa. Up to the time of our leaving, there had been ten souls saved; four of whom had pressed right on into the grace of sanctification. We feel that God is raising up a band of workers there that will tell on the powers of darkness. May God keep them from being ensnared by any of the devil’s agents.

Sisters McCormick and Faulkner came up a few days before we left, and we left them there, so the meeting was continued. There has been quite a number saved since we left, and the work is spreading, and calls are being made for meetings in other neighbor-hoods. Praise God! O how our heart aches to be out in the glorious war continually, but it seems ordered otherwise at present.

Your Bro. in the love of Christ.

Dear Brethren: — I am wonderfully saved, sanctified, and tried, and made white in the precious blood of the Son of God, and have overcome the wicked one, being dead to all sin, and alive unto God day and night, through the Holy Ghost that guides me into all truth, and gives me power to preach the Gospel in this blessed evening light, which causes quite a shaking among the hypocrites of babylon.

O praise God for the freedom I have in Christ just now. We are having glorious victory out here and at other places. Souls are being saved and sanctified, and some are under conviction, and others saying “what shall we do?” for these people are doing great things, and if we let them alone, they will both take away our members, and destroy our churches. Brother Henry Wickersham and several of the saints went five miles West of Winchester and poured out one vial of the wrath of God on the seat of the beast. They gnawed their tongues for pain. One at the altar for sanctification.

We intend to start to-morrow, to pull down the strong holds of satan, and rescue perishing souls. Dear Brethren, pray for us, for we have perfect victory now, and O may God go before us in mighty power, to deliver us from every evil work, and preserve us unto His Heavenly kingdom. Hallelujah! I am redeemed.

Urban a, Kan. Jan. 29.

Dearly Beloved Brethren: — Grace, mercy, peace and love be multiplied. May the Lord bless you, and all who love our Lord Jesus Christ. May the Lord bless all the TRUMPET readers. Be faithful, “stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made you free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage, (sect yoke) and sin.” Praise God this morning for freedom from sin, and all isms of man. Hallelujah! my soul is now free. Bless God! I am on the forward move, with the real victory, power, and glory in my soul.

“In this assurance I find sweetest rest,
Trusting in Jesus, I know I am blest.”

I am running up the shining way, with the fire and love of God in my soul. Hallelujah! Jesus is all in all to me. Bro. Cole and I closed meeting near Thayer, with a real victory for the Lord. The meeting continued two weeks in the name of King Jesus. The meeting commenced in the Post school-house, continued about one week, when some of the drunken babylonians got up a petition, and closed the school-house against God’s people, and His Word, These are stiff necked, and uncircumcised in heart, and they do always resist the Holy Spirit. They have a form of Godliness, but they deny the power; they are drunk on the wine of the wrath of her fornication, (babylon wine, sectism.) Then we continued the meeting at Sister Swartz’s a few nights, until we fixed up a house on Bro. Rutherford’s place, and we continued meeting until we closed the 27th of Jan. Sister Swartz was reclaimed, and sanctified; received a mighthty baptism of the Holy Spirit. She declares herself free from babylon. May the dear Lord keep her faithful until the end of time.

There were three converted and three sanctified, and others strengthened and built up in the most holy faith; some moved out. into the gifts of the Spirit. Bro. Rutherford and his wife came out of babylon, and are free. Hallelujah!

The work would have been much greater if one of them had walked in the light, i. e., the pastor of the sect called the “Salvation church of Christ,” (?) O may God help him to walk in the light, and obey God’s precious Word. — Rev. 18:4. God’s truth will prevail and stand. God’s Word is true, forever settled in Heaven. O I bless God for the truth; it will stand when all else will fail. There are other dear souls there who claim holiness, who will backslide unless they walk in the light. May God help them to get their eyes off of men, and get them on Jesus; He is our example to follow. May they move out in the will, and order of God, and obey Rev. 18:4. God bless those dear saints, and may they be true and faithful to God.

Bro’s. Orr and Slagle commenced meeting last night at the Turkey Creek school-house two miles North of Earlton. Pray for them, and the meeting.

Bro. Cole and I are at home ready to go where the Lord leads.

Your free Brothers, saved and kept free, built in the Church of Jesus Christ.

Bross, Kan. Jan. 27.

Dear Brethren, of the Church of the First-born: — Grace and peace be multiplied. There has been quite a revival work lately in this part of Kansas, in the way of justification, through the feeble efforts of a few — two or three weak ones. There has arisen a cry for further light, which we feel unable to give, needing rather to be taught than to teach others. We pray God to send some of His holy ones, filled with the mighty power of the Spirit, to our aid, that some Spiritual gift may be imparted even unto us. The Lord willing, we expect to begin a meeting in the name of Jesus at the Bethel school- house, Barber Co. Kan. We, being new settlers, and very poor, can only offer a poor reception. Our homes, (sod houses, dug-outs, etc.) are free, as is our living. Money is very scarce. Pray for us, that our faith fail not. Yours, washed in the blood that was shed on Calvary.

Dear Brethren: — I praise God for salvation. Glory to God, I am free from all babylonish confusion, and all sympathy for the sects. I have been suffering for about 10 years with pain in my left side, often under the physician’s care, but praise God! one year ago last Dec. I made a complete sacrifice of all, and the Lord sanctified me wholly, and healed all of my diseases. Glory to God for His cleansing power. Dear Bro. Sanford has just closed a meeting about a mile from this place, with victory on the Lord’s side. Glory to Jesus! Five souls sanctified wholly. The Lord has a few saints here, standing firm for Him. We follow the Savior in all His ordinances; Baptism, feet-washing, and the Lord’s supper. Praise God for the light of the Gospel that He has given us in this place through the TRUMPET. I pray God that it may continue to sendout the eternal truth. God bless you all, and keep you fully saved.

VICTORY AT BEAVER DAM IND.

—:o:—

Dear Brethren: — The Lord has won a glorious victory over the devil in this place. Many that were bound by the sect bond was made free indeed by the blood of the Son of God. To Him be all the glory. Amen!

I came to this place Jan. 18th, and the 19th began to pour out the “hail and fire mingled with blood,” which had a good effect on the people and caused them to submit themselves to the Lord and let Him save them from all their sins, filthiness and idols. Bro. David Leininger and the little ones had begun meeting the 8th and held it up to the time I arrived and two had found the Lord precious to their souls. From that time in most every meeting both day and night souls were saved and made happy. Some would go home shouting and others filled with laughter for the Son had made them free. Hallelujah to God for this blessed assurance that we can know that we are saved and approved of Him.

In three weeks and three days there were 37 consecrated for pardon and 39 for sanctification. Many dear ones that once enjoyed the blessed gift of entire sanctification, but lost it by not obeying the voice out of Heaven saying, “come out of her my people,” were willing to kneel down at the feet of Jesus and plead for mercy and die out to all sectism. O how our hearts did rejoice to see dear Bro. Frank Bear, wife and daughter come to the chopping-block and suffer the loss of all things for Christ and the salvation of their poor souls. May God bless them in seeking out the lost, is the earnest and constant prayer of my heart to God. Poor sinners who belonged to the U. B’s and W. B’s, came to the mercy seat and found pardon of all their sins, and were willing to sever their connection from the sect to which they belonged without salvation. Sinners know that when they get the love of God in their hearts they cannot be a sect member any more. I do thank all the dear ones who so kindly cared for us while with them. May God bless them abundantly, both spiritually and temporally. Amen!

Your Bro. in the bonds of divine love, saved and sanctified by the blood of the Lamb.

ANOTHER VICTORY.

—:o:—

South Haven Mich., Feb. 4.

Dear Trumpet readers: — God bless you all with all spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus. Amen!

We opened war against sin about the 23rd of Nov. at this place with the confidence and assurance of God, that a work should be done here for God. Before commencing this work, we went to God in prayer, and He gave us the evidence that He was pleased with the step that we were taking in moving to town and renting a building to hold meeting in. The Lord plainly made known unto us that nothing less than two months was sufficient to accomplish the work. So we commenced in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. At first there were but a few that would come to meeting. The people were so filled with prejudice that they would not come to hear. So we prayed God to visit them at their homes, and he heard our prayer. Glory to His name! Now and then one would consecrate, but many of the little ones who were with us nearly became discouraged; but we held on to God by faith, knowing that He sent us here, and we were willing to work, and leave the result with Him. The last two weeks of the meetings was a glorious success. Forty-two consecrations for pardon, and the most of them received a bright evidence of pardon, and quite a number received the glorious experience of entire sanctification. O praise God for the victory in our soul while writing these lines. O the necessity of earnest laborers rushing to the cities to rescue the thousands that are being led down to eternal woe by the abominable teachers in the sects, who only seek their own gain; for these shepherds feed themselves and feed not my flock; therefore O ye shepherds here the Word of the Lord. “Thus saith the Lord God: behold I am against the shepherds, and I will require my flock at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding my flock. Neither shall the shepherds feed themselves any more, for I will deliver my flock from their mouth that they may not be meat for them.”

Praise God for the many that are being delivered from babylon and all sin.

My testimony is just now that I am saved from all sin, and am wholly sanctified and kept by the power of God, ready to go wherever He leads

Dear Brethren: — I have just received the TRUMPET. Your kind charity through His great mercies — and has filled my soul with love and glory. Please continue same as subscribtion. I have a real feast in my soul when I read the TRUMPET. It is radical and that is just what I like. I am justified, sanctified and satisfied with the way. O I do praise God for salvation that saves from all sin: I was once a vile and wicked man, fast hasting down to hell; but praise the Lord He has saved me and washed me in His blood, now I am going on my way rejoicing. I praise God there is a people standing firm for God. I am trusting the Lord for full salvation. He convicted me by His Spirit and made me willing to fall at the foot of the cross crying, What shall I do to be saved. I have the witness of the Spirit that I am born again. My name is written in the Lamb’s book of life. I realize that it is a solemn thing to make vows to God: it is better for ns not to make them, than to make them and not pay them. I pray God to show professors of godliness who are walking hand in hand with the world, that he calls upon them to “come out from among them and be ye separate.”

I have been afflicted with disease of the spine since, 62: for which I was discharged from the U. S. Army. I take the narrow way, keep consecrated to God, and live where nothing offends. I want the blessed saints of the TRUMPET to pray for my recovery; the healing of my body. God bless you for your words of faith and cheer in the TRUMPET, it has strengthened my faith.

Your Bro. in this holy war. Amen!

My testimony is, the precious blood of Jesus sanctifies me wholly. Praise God! I am growing in grace, I am all the Lord’s bound by the grace of God to go through for Jesus. I ask the saints to pray for the Church at Otter Springs, that it may stand, and sectarian walls crumble low.

Dear Brethren:I feel like telling all the dear readers of the TRUMPET what the Lord has done for me. I was brought up under the Swedenborg belief, until I was old enough to investigate the writings of Swedenborg for myself. I soon made up my mind that he was an imposter — that he never was inspired by God as he claimed to be, for I could not find in God’s Word where it mentioned such a man. So I denounced his works as a fraud. Then I looked around among the different denominations to find people of God, but about all the difierence I could see between them and myself was, they prayed in public, and told their experience, and I did not. I felt the Spirit striving with me, and many times I resolved to serve the Lord; yes, and I even promised God that if He would spare my life until some future events passed in my life, that I would serve Him, and as many times I have broken my promise. When I look back over my past life, I think what a merciful God I have, who followed me for 48 years before I was brought to the true light. But I thank God that He permitted me to live until I heard the Word of God preached in its purity. A little over a year ago, I heard Bro. Warner preach the straight Word of God, regardless of the sects and the devil, and it stirred the devil in me so I could hardly stay in the house. Bro. Warner tried to talk to me about my souls welfare, and the devil, was wonderfully stirred in me, but what he said set me to reading the Bible, because I thought he quoted Scripture that was not in the Bible, but I found his Bible and mine were just the same. Then I heard Bro. and Sister Smith preach the straight Word of God, and I said of a truth these are the people of God. I made up my mind to seek the Lord, life or death. I can truly say that I am saved and kept by the power of God.

I have used tobacco ever since I was a boy, and when I was out of tobacco it was almost impossible to live with me. I have tried in my own strength many times to quit the habit, but when I got the salvation of Jesus in my soul, I asked God to take the appetite from me, and it was done. One year has passed since I have tasted tobacco, and I do praise God for delivering me from the chains of the devil. Pray for us, that we enter not into temptation.

Your Bro. saved and washed in the blood of the Lamb.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

—:o:—

Pittsville Pa., Jan. 19.

Dear Brethren: — The grace of God abound more and more toward you all. Amen!

The meeting in Franklin Pa. closed the 13th. It was a glorious time. The whole city was stirred. We secured the U. P. meeting house which was deserted. “No man buyeth her merchandise any more.” Rev. 18:11. The F. M’s in this place are split, and are holding meetings at the same hour with only a partition wall between them. Surely God is making her look ridiculous before all men. The M. E. sham holiness preacher selling tobacco etc. Even sinners are disgusted with her abominations.

The Lord helped us wonderfully to pour out the vials of the wrath of God’s indignation upon babylon. The Lord sifted a few out of the pile of her chaff, and they will hold their meetings twice a week. Since coming to Pittsville there have been two saved, some sanctified at this place, others seeking. Praise God! the wonderful power of God is sweeping over Pa. I am but the voice of one crying in the wilderness of this world, “Babylon is fallen, is fallen,” and in every place a few escape and go forth to sound the alarm to others. O what joy fills my soul. The Lord fulfills Isa. 44:25, 26.

Your Bro. saved to the Lord, and to all the holy saints, sanctified wholly just now.

My testimony is, I am rejoicing in full salvation. We commenced meeting in this wicked city last night. We are very much fatigued, not having but little sleep or rest for nearly ten weeks, but the Lord is with us and the work is going on. We left Bro. Evans at Pittsville. Six at the altar the last night we were there. The saints are walking in all the ordinances with great delight, and souls are being saved almost daily.

Your blood-washed Bro.

Dear Brother: — May God bless you and all the dear company of saints with you. We are here in the name of the Lord Jesus, will stay as long as the Lord wills. There are some here who are willing to hear the truth. We started over the country to Archbold, then to Fayette. Last night the power of God was upon us, one soul consecrated to God. We stopped with the Church near Weston and found them doing well, though sectarians are raising quite a storm of persecution.

Your Brothers saved and sanctified.

Cheshire Mich., Jan. 17, 1887.

After closing the meeting at the Marble school-house on Friday the 31st of Dec., we went home to take a little rest and to enjoy the society of the dear ones. We remained four days, then went to Lacota in Van Buren Co. expecting to commence meeting at that places but the way not being opened, went to Bro. Joseph Smith’s for this night. The next night (Friday) we went to South Haven to meet with the little ones, and found Bro. Michels hard at work in the “Sodom of Van Buren Co.” I believe he is sowing seed in that place that will spring up in due time; may God bless his efforts and bring many souls to Himself. Amen!

From South Haven we returned to Bro. Smith’s where we met the dear saints Saturday evening and Sabbath morning. The Lord blessed us, and the little ones were strengthened, and God glorified. From thence in the evening to Bro. Johnson’s at the log house, where we had a powerful time on account of the power of God shed forth among God’s people. Two or three loads of the Cheshire saints came down, and O how it filled our souls with glory to meet those dear blessed children, for they were filled with goodness. O praise God! praise God!

Tuesday evening Jan. 11, we again met the brethren at the Marble school-house, it being their night for prayer meeting, expecting to go to Diamond Springs the next day to commence meeting; but the way being hedged up, we remained and held meetings until last evening, (five meetings) during which time 35 souls were saved and a number sanctified. Praise the Lord for His mighty saving power! During our absence from them, there were four souls saved, making in all 136 who have testified to the forgivness of sins, and, glory be to God, we expect many more will yet be saved in this place, “for the people have a mind to work.” Neh. 4:6. We expected to start for Diamond Springs this morning, but the way being again hedged up by the severe storm which is now raging in all its fury; (but glory be to God there is no storm raging in my soul.) We still remain at dear Bro and sister G. V. Austin’s awaiting for the way to open for us to go on to the battle again for the Lord. O how I love this work, it is glory all the time. One babylonian, a United Brethren and a book peddler happened in the meeting and God got hold of him and converted him, then afterwards sent him to the altar for sanctification. The Lord put His power upon him; he was prostrated five hours and when he came out, O how he did leap and shout for joy. We had been praying mightily for God to send more laborers into His vineyard; and glory be to His holy name, He has answered our prayer by anointing Bro. E. H. Westover the book peddler, for the work.

Two weeks from yesterday we expect to meet again with the saints at the Mar- S. H. if the Lord wills. Brethren pray for us. We send ten new subscribers for the TRUMPET for one year. Saved! saved! forever.

Beaver Dam Ind., Jan. 18.

I wish to state to the sainted family of God and all the readers of the GOSPEL TRUMPET that my experience in the field with dear Bro. Fisher and company was a blessing to my soul. I feel more fully qualified to go out in the dark places of sin and sectism to work for my blessed Redeemer. I also feel that I am rooted, grounded and settled in the solids of the Gospel of my salvation more than ever before. O praise the Lord for all His goodness to me. After the close of our last meeting in Jay Co. Ind., it pleased the Lord to separate us from the little company for a short season by space and distance; but thank God not in Spirit nor sentiment, for Paul says. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril or sword? As it is written, for thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. — Rom. 8:35-39.

The people of God are not saved a part from each other, but together though they may be miles from each other. O I do bless God for this unity in Christ our living head. Saturday, Jan. the 14th, Bro. J. C. Fisher and company took train for Grand Junction. Dear Bro. Fletcher Birum who was with us in the meeting conveyed me to his place about 18 miles from where we held the meeting, and in the evening I was blessed with the privilege of speaking to the saints at Pleasant Grove Chapel. I found them all filled with the leaping and shouting fire. After preaching and testimonies, we gave opportunity for poor sinners to come and seek the Lord, and five came seeking the “Pearl of great price” and found it. Three for pardon and two for sanctification. We had meeting Sunday at half past ten, and also in the evening; one soul made free on Sunday. The house was so filled that we could not have altar services, but many hands went up for our prayers that they may be saved. Monday morning Bro. F. Birum conveyed me to Ridgeville where I got on board the train for Beaver Dam. The Brethren sent me the means to go with, and now I am here in the name of the Holy Child Jesus to do His will in all things. “To pull down, to destroy, to build and to plant.” Your Bro. in the Lord Jesus, saved and sanctified by the blood, and alive forevermore.

Bro. J. H. Orr writes, asking these questions. — Are the holy people required of the Lord to practice the Word of God as recorded in Matt. 18:15-17? Also Luke 17:3. And all other Scriptures bearing on the subject of restitution etc. I am saved on the Bible line.”

Ans. Certainly brother, “Men shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

It is by the grace and love of our Lord Jesus Christ that we have had the opportunity to get acquainted with the TRUMPET and the family of God, and once more to write to you all to the honor and glory of our Lord and Master. O may the blessing, grace, love, power and wisdom from the throne of God continue to flow and be multiplied to you all, that many may be brought from darkness to light and from the power of satan unto God. May you all continue to be shining lights to break down sect darkness. O I praise my God for full salvation, and the well of living water in my soul. How much we would like to see Bro’s Warner and Fisher once more. We are here in the midst of sect darkness and idolatry of all kinds; they will not come to our little meetings because their deeds are evil. Myself and wile are enjoying Songs of Victory, they are the language of my heart. Glory to God forever!

O how glad I was in reading the report by Bro. Fisher from the meeting in Barkevville Pa. One mile east of there I was converted to God about 29 years ago.

There lived many with whom I enjoyed many good meetings in the past, and I hope they have received the great truth. I would only tell them all, that I am one of the number of those who have received the Word and experience which Brother Fisher preaches, which is full salvation, full sanctification, fullness of joy, perfect love. Glory, glory, glory to God forever! Amen! Hoping to meet you all in Heaven, I am your Bro. in Christ.

Dear Saints: — My testimony is, I am saved and sanctified by a second work of grace. Praise God forever and ever for this wonderful salvation that keeps me from all sin. It has been over a year since I testified through the TRUMPET. I have had many trials and temptations, and deep waters of affliction to pass through. Death came and took my dear baby from me; bat praise our God forever, for the Spirit of God in that, says, thy will be done. The Lord said He “will be with us in the sixth trouble, and will not forsake us in the seventh.” Praise God for that promise! I must tell you a little about the great feast I had at the assembly meeting. I never enjoyed a meeting all through as I did that. During the meeting I was convicted that I must be baptized. I had thought the baptism I received when I was taken into the Free Will Babtist sect would do for me; but when I heard Bro. Warner preach, I was convinced, and said, Lord I will be baptized the first opportunity, and O how my soul was filled with the love of God. I could hardly wait until we got to the water. After I, and several others were buried with Christ in baptism, we came back home about two miles, and the weather was quite cool.

The Lord keeps me healed from the awful spells that I had before I was saved.

He saved me from tobacco too, and I have had no desire for it since. Praise His name forever!

May God bless all those who preach His Word in purity all over the land.

Pray for me that I may ever be a humble child of God. I am saved and sanctified and tried. Praise God forever!

To the saints of the Church of the First- born, written in Heaven. Peace be multiplied unto you. I have been one year hid in the cleft of the Rock, continually feasting at Father’s table. O how wonderful! I am as a little child kneeling at the feet of my Savior, listening to His gentle voice as He tells me I am free from all that is offensive to Heaven. O how the hearts of God’s dear children do blend together. Truly we have reached Mt Zion the City of God. Praise God forever and ever!

Within the past year I have been wonderfully healed of bodily afflictions of four years standing. All the glory belongs to God. There are but very few here that believe in holiness or God’s healing power manifested among His saints. But praise God! He is keeping me blameless, and His Word says nothing shall pluck me out of His hand.

Your sister all on the altar.

Dear Brethren: — I am in the deep waters of salvation which is entire sanctification. O glory to God! It seems I can hear the Angelic host at times. O I cannot praise God enough, for the open canopy is all illuminated with the glory of God. O glory to God for the Heavenly vision I have. There is no scales on my eyes. I know just when God pardoned all my sins, and when He cleansed me from inbred corruption. I am 72 years old and suffer pain almost all of the time; but labor is rest, and pain is sweet if thou my God art with me. Glory to God! Your Bro. in Christ.

Dear Brethren: — May the Lord bless, cheer, and comfort your dear souls for His name’s sake. Amen! O glory to God and the Lamb, for the way He has kept my soul, and delivered me from all evil. I can never praise my dear Redeemer enough for His goodness to mo. O how I would love to see some of my dear Father’s children that are in Michigan, and in other places from which they write; but I must wait with patience until the great meeting time comes, when all nations shall be gathered. Oh what a glorious meeting that will be to us who are saved of the Lord, but many in that day will hear that awful word “depart, ye cursed, into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” But O my dear brothers and sisters, may it not be you, or I. Oh may the Lord bless your dear souls abundantly for Jesus’ sake, is the prayer of my heart. I can say I am saved, sanctified, and kept by the power of God, ready to be revealed at the coming of our Lord. Your Sister.

Dear Brethren: — Many long weary years I wandered in darkness, trying to serve God, but never had the assurance that I was fully saved. But blessed be the name of the Lord for sending the true light to my soul; that true light of the Gospel of Christ. I had been a member of the Methodist sect forty years, and for the last two years have been earnestly praying to God for a full sanctification. Glory to God and the Lamb forever! I am saved to the uttermost. O I do praise God for the light which I have received through the preaching of the dear saints.

If it had not been for the straight Word, and true light of the Gospel, and the honest heart God gave me to receive the truth, I should have died a miserable, deluded, cast-away, under the weak doctrine of the M. E. sect. Glory to the Lamb for ever and ever! I am saved; the blood of Jesus Christ, God’s dear Son does cleanse me from all sin. O I do praise God for this full and free, and blessed salvation. I can say that He has healed my poor afflicted body. I have been a great sufferer for 12 years, and was given up by all the doctors; but glory to God! in answer to prayer, and by the laying on of hands by the Elders, I am well. Praise the Lord! I have taken Him for my physician, my trust is in Him forever more. Praise God! I am saved and sanctified. Pray for me, that I may ever stand firm, and at last gain a home in Heaven.

Dear Brethren: — I desire to give in my testimony for Jesus. It is four years since He fully saved and sanctified my soul. All glory to His matchless name!

To say that it has been the most blessed four years of my life, does not begin to express the joy and peace that I have enjoyed. I testify that the blood does cleanse, and keep me from all sin. and the way grows brighter and more glorious, as I become better acqainted with God and and His ways. The TRUMPET is a welcome visitor to me. I have shed many tears of joy while reading it; espesially the news from the field. I can understand what the Scripture means where it says there is joy in Heaven over one sinner that repenteth. I would like to meet with you in your ordinance meetings. The 7th verse of th 3d chapter of Malachi applies to the most of the holiness people that I am acquainted. Yes, and the 8th and 9th verses too. My prayer is, that God will keep you faithful to the written word, which is glorious, and the Living Word which is more glorious.

From your brother, sanctified and kept by the power of the blood.

Greeting to all the dear saints who rejoice in the great love of God, in the beginning of the New Year, 1887.

It makes my heart leap and rejoice when I read the blessed news in the TRUMPET of the progress of the Kingdom of Christ. My prayer to God is, that He will bless and strengthen dear Sister White, and all the dear ministering servants who are preaching full and free salvation in Canada. Also Bro. Fisher, Bro. Warner, Bro. Haner, and all the dear ones who are battling against the powers of darkness throughout the United States. We cannot name them all, but God knows them.

Dear saints, let us who are not in the field, earnestly ask God to abundantly bless all of His sanctified soldiers who are in the field. O may they not shun to declare the whole counsel of God.

Paul said the time would come when men would not endure sound doctrine, but heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears. That time has come, for many will not accent the truth as it is in Jesus.

Brethren, pray for my family that they may be saved, and go on their way rejoicing with this happy little band.

My brother Richmond and I are standing alone with Christ here. I hope the brethren will not forget to announce their meetings in the TRUMPET, as I have a great desire to go up to Jerusalem which is free, to the feast of fat things.

Remember me in your prayers that I may be kept under the blood of the innocent Lamb that was slain for me.

Your brother in Christ.

S. M. Smith.
