My Testimony.

-:o:-

The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. — Psa. 34:18.

I will tell you of my Jesus,
How He saved my soul from sin;
Oh the blessed love He gave me,
Filled with songs of praise to Him.

When a child, I loved the Savior,
Parents taught me to obey;
And with childish faith I trusted,
Oft in secret I would pray.

But away from God I wandered,
Heeding not the Mister’s call,
Loving gay and worldy pleasures,
Often in the dancing hall.

Often I would think of dying,
With a heart all full of sin,
Unprepared to meet the Savior,
Would He rise and let me in.

Ah, to well I knew a sinner
Would be banished from the Lord;
For we read within the Bible,
He that sins shall not see God.

Fearing death should o’er take me,
I should be a cast away,
Oh I longed for full salvation,
For the light of perfect day.

I was weary of my burden,
For my heart was full of sin,
Starving thirsting for salvation,
Longing for that pence within.

Then I heard a still voice whisper,
Make thy peace and calling sure;
I will save thee from all danger
If you’ll enter through the door.

I, the Lord, hath died to save thee,
Died that yon might Heaven gain,
On the cross hung bleeding, dying,
For to save thee from all sin.

Hark! I beat the Master calls me,
I’ll arise and go to Him;
He has died for me a sinner,
He will pardon all my sins.

Down before Him filled with sorrow,
For my sins were very great,
Crying, Lord forgive a sinner,
Lift from me this heavy weight.

Jesus said, Thy sins are many,
But I’ll wash thee white as snow;
Go in peace, I will forgive thee,
Then my heart was all aglow.

Oh the joy and peace in Jesus,
Words would fail me to express;
Nature and all Heaven praised Him,
For my soul was fully blessed.

Then the light of full salvation
Came and I was sanctified,
On the altar all was given,
I a living sacrifice.

And this life I live to please Him,
Oh He lives within my soul;
Hallelujah! I will praise Him,
While eternal ages roll.

With my soul all filled with glory,
Leaping, shouting as I go,
Oh I’ll tell the wondrous story,
I am whiter than the snow.

Thanks be to God who giveth us the victory through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen!

Your sister saved and wholly sanctified forever-more.

THE POWER OF GOD IN US.

—:o:—

BLESSED be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all Spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ. According as He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love. Having made known unto us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He hath purposed in Himself. In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of Him that worketh all things after the council of His own will. That we should be to the praise of His glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the Gospel of your salvation, in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise. Having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are His. In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink. He that believeth on me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his heart shall flow river’s of living water. But this spake He of the Spirit, which they that believed on Him should receive; for the Holy Ghost was not yet given, because that Jesus was not yet glorified.

We find in these last days abroad in the laud, many people claiming the salvation of our Lord Jesus, and also that they are filled with the Holy Ghost, and so on, but have no power nor Spiritual life in their souls. What saith the Scripture? Acts 1:8, — “But ye thall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you, and ye shall be witnesses unto me, both in Jerusalem and all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost parts of the earth. Ye are my witnesses saith the Lord. Well when we can testify to the salvation of our Lord Jesus Christ, backed by the mighty power of God in us, then our words, as Paul says, are weighty and powerful. He also says to the Corinthian brethren, Now some are puffed up, as though I would not come unto you, but I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will and will not know the speech of them that are puffed up, but the power. For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power. For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling; and my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit, and power, that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

Well, bless the Lord, O my soul! I can say with the Psalmist that God is my strength and power, and He maketh my way perfect. Yes, truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the Lord. We find there is no salvation without the Holy Spirit, also a command to be filled with the Spirit. Then truly if we are, we are filled with the power of God. Having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are His. What seal? some would say. “Now He which stablished us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God. Who hath also sealed us, and given us the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.” — 2 Cor. 1:21, 22.

And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. — Eph. 4:30.

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place, and suddenly there came a sound from Heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. – Acts 2:1.

And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith the Lord, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; And on my servants, and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit, and they shall prophesy. — Vr. 17.

And when they had prayed the place was shaken where they were assembled together, and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the Word of God with boldness. And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul; neither said any of them that aught of the things which he possessed was his own, but they had all things common. And with great power gave the Apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. O what favor God hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God. Therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew Him not. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free, and have been all made to drink into one Spirit Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither hath entered into the heart of man the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him. But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit, for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea the deep things of God.

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God, that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth, comparing spiritual things with spiritual; but the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness unto him, neither can he know them, because they are Spiritually discerned. But he that is Spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

Yes, praise the Lord! We have a mind to do the will of God, and to obey His precious Word in all things.

We find in Heb. 5:8, 9, Jesus though He were Son: yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered. And being made perfect, He became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him.

Then opened He their understanding that they might understand the Scripture and said unto them, thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day. And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And behold I send the promise of my Father upon you, but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem until ye be endued with power from on high. We find by the Scripture that the Holy Ghost is the seal of God, and having this seal, the Lord knoweth them that are His.

Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope through the power of the Holy Ghost. Your sister sanctified wholly to God.

A BEAST SHEET AND DARE HOUSE.

—:o:—

We have received a copy of two papers of which we send you the address. The one by the name of the “Trumpet of the Kingdom, the other the “Light House.” For our part we can’t see in them any true light. But we can see many ways that a person can get into darkness by reading them. We would like to ask Bro. Warner through the Trumpet if he knows anything about those papers, and what they really are. We do not feel to fellowship them, or encourage them in their work until we have better evidence that they are of God. Your Bro. and sister.

A. O. & Bessie Beaudette.

ANSWER.

Until your letter was received, and the address corner of the former of those sheets was read, we knew not that its publisher had embarked in the publishing business. We have not seen his paper. But for all that, we are well able to judge of the character of the sheet. We once received a letter signed John G. Schmid, which is the same attached to the paper under consideration. Which letter was nothing more nor less than the growling and foaming of the beast. Its inspiration was from the pit. And not having heard that the writer has had the devils cast out of him since then, we have good reason to believe that his publication is nothing more nor less than the “Trumpet of the Kingdom of Satan,” and his kingdom is full of darkness. And we advise all saints not to encourage the works of darkness by receiving it out of the Post office.

As for the “Light House” it were far more properly named the dark house, or charnel house. We have been acquainted with the little daubed sheet for some time, and have never seen any Gospel light in it. Its editors are nothing bat blind superstitions legalists, who know nothing by the light of the Spirit of God, but are always given to penurious picking, and judging through subverted eyes. Their spirit is well described in Isa. 29:20, 21. “Watching for iniquity,” and make a man an offender for a word, lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of naught.” There is no salvation taught in its light, which has become darkness, and its Editors ignorant of the Spirit of God do not scruple to growl, and pick at holy men, on the most absurd and superstitions grounds. Thus casting them away for a thing of naught. To any man illuminated by the Spirit of God, it is nothing but a dark house. Let not the saints countenance it.

Denver, Col.

Praise the Lord this morning for full and free salvation that saves from all sin, and from all that is of the world, from babylon and all human organizations.

Nine years ago, I had been a backslider in the Presbyterian sect for over two years of great unhappiness. I then lived in Kansas. After I moved to this city, praise the Lord! He brought us back to Himself, during some revival meetings held in this city. I had a glorious deliverance, and asked the Lord to now lend me by His Spirit and give me all the salvation there was for me to get, feeling there was surely a higher standard of experience than I had ever known; a place where I could be kept from feeling, as I had, a great fear of backsliding again. I had neither heard, nor understood, nor ever mot any one who professed or possessed salvation that saves from all sin, and did not know anything about holiness and sanctification as obtainable in this life. I had always believed that immersion was the Bible mode of baptism, but had always heard it ridiculed in the sect I belonged to, so I was very much tried of the devil in different ways, before I could make up my mind that I could obey God on that point, being 48 yrs. old at that time. One day the Lord plainly spoke to me, saying this is all of the devil, these doubts and fears. Then I immediately arose and went to the pastor of the Baptist sect, and told him I was now ready to be baptized any day he would decide upon. I will never forget that evening when I went under the water. The Lore was present with me, and I in a wonderful manner realized that I was buried with Christ in baptism, and arose again to walk with Him in newness of life. Glory to His name forever! For two years walked up to all the light God gave me and was very happy in the Lord, who wonderfully upheld me through severe trials and sorrows. Then began another revival in the same Baptist sect led by an Evangelist that came to this city. We had Bible readings every after-noon. I attended every meeting both day and night, and the Lord was in a most wonderful manner leading and teaching me. The Lord himself led me to make a full consecration to Him for time and eternity, that I would belong to Him and obey Him in all things. For many weeks I hardly knew whether I was in the body or out of it. O how glorious it is to have full fellowship with the Father and with the Son, and to be led by the Holy Spirit in all things. Hallelujah!

I still did not know what to name this work of grace in my soul, or whether it had any name; but soon I met a young man who professed holiness, and after having talked with him I clearly saw and understood that the Lord had by His Spirit purified my heart from inbred sin, and sanctified me wholly. Glory to His name!

The following eight months I seldom attended the meetings of the Baptist sect, but had told the pastor my experience of what the Lord had done for me. They got more and more worldly, having erected an elegant building into which they took the world and worldly persons. I am poor, and was looked down on as far as worldly standing was concerned, but now came a time when the Lord did wonderfully show His power through me in that place. It was alter New Year: they wanted to star up a revival as they called it, and hunting up all their members they came to me and requested me to come to the meetings, and testify to what the Lord had done for me, because they had to acknowledge one of the deacons said, that they were all very cold. I inquired of the Lord, and he said go. I went, and for three months the Lord did wonderfully speak through me in that place. In every meeting the Lord seemed to lift me to my feet, and full salvation and Gospel truths were poured into their ears by the Spirit Himself. I never knew what I was going to say till I opened my mouth and He filled it. I loved to go to meeting in that sect then better than any other place, on account of God’s wonderful presence with me, but there came a time all at once when a voice spoke in my soul, and said: “Come out of her my people.” I knew not what it meant until I opened the Bible and the Lord showed me the 18th chapter of Rev., then the 17th of the same, and wonderful light came to my soul upon the meaning of these Scriptures, and many others on the same line of truth. But I said, Lord you surely don’t mean for me to go out of that place where you so wonderfully blessed me, I cannot do that. I am surely mistaken in the leadings. As I never had heard of any body having such an experience, nor had I heard any one say that babylon did mean the sects, so I wanted to be sure that I understood the Lord’s leadings. For about four weeks I got nothing in the Word of God but just such Scriptures, bearing upon the fall of babylon, and the command to flee out of her. During that time the Lord did not help me so much in the meetings as heretofore, but still He spoke through me. I felt I had to come to decision, and I told the Lord I would obey Him if in the next meeting He would but me test His will concerning me in this manner; if He wanted me to go on there as usual to get me on my feet by His power as He had in the past, and then speak through me, and if that should be the last time for me there, then in some way or other to keep me still. The 7th chapter of Romans was read that day, and taught as being all the experience we could attain to in this life, but it did not seem to touch me at all. At last I said to myself, well I must surely get up and say something, but when I tried to raise to my feet it was impossible, I was like one bound down. Then I said, this is enough Lord, I will obey. I began right there to take steps toward getting my name off of their book, but they made many objections, because the Lord did not allow me to take a letter to another sect, but I had to tell them just how the Lord was leading me. They said I was crazy, too holy, or led of the devil, in fact everything they could think of.

At last there was a meeting appointed at the pastor’s library where all the official members of the sect met in counsel over me to decide what to do with me. The same wonderful power of God came upon me again there. I was on my feet telling them all what God gave me to say, and what He had shown me in His Word about their sins before Him. When I was through I said good evening, and that meeting settled the matter, I was a free woman in Christ Jesus.

I praise His name that I am enjoying this same salvation to-day, I am going onward and upward. Christ is all and in all to me, and just now my soul is being blessedly fed with the truth of God, as preached by the Holy Ghost through Bro. D. S. Warner, who is now in this place.

Praise the Lord! I can say amen to every Word I have heard. I do enjoy hearing God’s Word preached with the authority of Almighty God Himself. It is wonderful and glorious when we can accept the whole will of God. Your sister, saved to the uttermost just now.

Hayesville, Ia.

Dear Saints of God: — I praise God this afternoon for salvation that saves to the uttermost. I heard the true Word of God preached last winter, and I gladly accepted it. My whole desire is to please my blessed Savior who came and suffered and died that we might be saved. Why not live to please our blessed Lord Him we need not fear to die when death comes, we only pass from death unto life. O how happy are they that die in the Lord, death hath no more dominion over them. Oh dear ones let us try to please God. His grace is sufficient for us to overcome every thing that is not of God. Think it not strange of the fiery trials which is to try you, as though some strange thing had happened. Bless the Lord for His goodness! I have not been able to do scarcely any work for nearly three years, but I feel that God knows best. He says in His Word that everything must work for good to them that love the Lord. Praise His holy name. Your sister low at the feet of Jesus.

Belle Harmon.

CAMP MEETINGS.

Dear Saints: — It is time to begin to consider the coming camp-meeting campaign. Let all who wish to have a camp-meeting in your place, write and let us know about what time you think would suit best.

We are led to speak of this matter thus early, more especially because it appears to us highly important that the saints in West Michigan should procure a permanent camp-ground, owned or leased by the Church in some suitable locality. A bro. told us last winter of a beautiful shady timberland, bordering on a beautiful Lake a few miles North of the Junction. We would suggest that Bro. Joseph Smith, Bro. Larson and Bro. Johnson take upon them the good, work of looking after the matter, and see if it can be procured. If not, what other place can be obtained. Possibly the dear Brethren in Allegan Co. can find a suitable place to locate this general camp-ground. It should be handy to one or more Railroads, near a Lake or stream. If a pleasant grove could be obtained on the beach of Lake Michigan, it would doubtless be most desirable. Who will take an interest in the matter and look out a good place for the Lord’s sanctuary, and report the matter? A permanent ground should be secured for a “general assembly,” and then saints will feel free to put up good tents on the same. The Lord move your hearts dear Brethren to look out the place that He shall choose.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

—:o:—

Denver Col, Feb. 6, 1888.

Dearly Beloved Saints of the Most High God: — While we ask you to excuse our silence in the TRUMPET the last two issues, we are happy to inform you all; that we have not been keeping silent, but have been praising God with all our hearts in this city of idolatry. Yea, “before the gods will I praise thee,” and they are on exhibition in about every window, and on the walks. Thousands of gods are seen here; but the most of the people worship themselves. They are

“Double-tongued idolaters,
Themselves, their gods and worshipers.”

But we do not “bow down to their gods nor serve them, nor do after their works; but in the name of the Lord our God, we do utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images.” Amen!

God hath triumphed through the light and power of His Word and Spirit in this city. A goodly number of poor sinners, and backsliders have been saved, believers sanctified, and honest souls escaped out of babylon. There are about forty souls here who seem to drink in the whole truth, with a good relish, and we hope they will faith-fully walk in the same. It is true, we have been here a long time. Doubtless in many other places more souls could have been saved in the same time. But we have not had a regular place to hold meetings in until a little over two weeks. Our labor has been scattered about, part of the time in private houses, in halls, and some over one week in a U. B. house of worship. We think it the will of God that we labor here so long. God desires His holy Church well established in this city, and endued with all the precious gifts, especially that of healing; because the invalids come here from all parts of the world for their health, and Jesus, the Christ, in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks, His Church is a glorious Health resort.

Holiness has been taught, and professed by many in this place, for some years; but it was principally of a poor dwarf and sickly kind. Though some are out of the sects, they have more sect wine, and “transformed” light in them than the Spirit of God. The leader and some of His followers, never came near the meetings, and were a stumbling block to the people. They confessed that we are all saved, and men and women of God, but said they could not work with us. The principal difficulty is, they being in babylon, think it an awful thing that we profess to “know the truth.” In doctrine they differ only on a few small points, and these would form no barier between us and them if we, like them, only held positive Bible commands as a matter of opinion. Glory be to Jesus! it is the authority to preach the Gospel with the Holy Ghost sent down from Heaven, that tests every babylonized heart. They cannot stand such strong meat. They can get along with men who merely guess at the truth, and therefore agree to disagree; but cannot endure the saints in the light of God, who can say by the Holy Spirit that “we know that we are of the truth.” Yea, “we are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.” We do thank God that this is written for us now, as well as for the saints that walked with God before the apostasy. These poor confused minds, hardly ever read the Word of God in their meetings, teach in substance that you need not obey the commands of Christ unless the Spirit tells you to do so. They therefore judge the Word of God by spirits, instead of “try the spirits” by the Word. Their light is so dim, that they have urged men using tobacco, and a person tormented with devils to claim sanctification. These facts we have from the parties own lips. God knows that we feel very sorry for the dear souls. O how we wish that they knew the glorious liberty, and authority of the pure “Spirit of Truth.” I pray God that they may yet be delivered from the spirit of confusion.

The Salvation Army, more properly called the military sect, have been operating here about one year. Some of the sanctified whom God had lead out of the professed holiness band, much assisted them when they came here, and some joined their sect. These being spiritual minded imparted a good tone to the Army and God who always uses the best means at hands, converted some souls among them. Their testimony showed that they were all longing for a better experience, and though the rattling sect profess to teach holiness, they do not possess clear enough light to lead souls into the fulness. In fact their whole drum and tambourine parade, their human-headed, man-ruled and oath bound institution, is opposed to the Spirit of God, and inconsistent with holiness of heart and life. Several of the hungry and honest ones have come out and renounced the “rudiments of the world,” and God has gloriously saved them. Others who were convicted for full salvation, and confessed it, have refused to walk in the light, and are now under the power of devils, even confess it. Oh how quickly the devils take possession of men and women when the evening light comes, and is rejected. One young Bro. whom God led out of her, went back and testified: and on going there again, and sitting down quietly in their congregation, they ordered him to leave the house. Sent for a police to put him out. Afterwards the babel captain confessed to him that they were sorry to do it, but that they had to do it to please sect babylonians that came to their meetings. He also confessed that the brother was saved. So to retain the friendship and fellowship of the “habitation of devils, and hold of every foul spirit,” this brave army called a policeman and had a saved man put out of their house, who had only disturbed them by his presence. One of the officers said, ‘If we let these holiness people come in here and testify, it will tear us all to pieces.” Brave soldiers these drum and tambourine street paraders. There is no more sectish sect on earth than the military sect. Both in there paper and in testimony meetings there is far more glorying in, and worshiping of their Booth-headed organism than praise to Christ. Notwithstanding the abominations in that sect here, it is far better than the average of the Army we have met elsewhere.

Praise God! The work of the Lord is steadily moving forward here, and becoming more deep and solid every day. There were twelve consecrations yesterday, all for entire sanctification but one. About all received that for which they sought. One sister was slain and lay as dead upon the floor some time. There are about a half dozen precious young men here who are called to work for God, to preach His everlasting Gospel. Some of them are ready to devote themselves fully to the high calling. We are confident they shall be very useful, and the work will go right on after we shall have left here. Let all the saints pray for the Church of God in Denver. We have immersed four brethren into the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and quite a number more will obey at the next opportunity. We will remain here at least until over next Lord’s, day, and as soon as the Lord will, return to Wayland, Polk Co. Neb.. O beloved saints pray much for us. We are all well and have complete victory over the devil. Longing, dearly beloved saints to see you all again in the flesh, as we are much with you in the Spirit, and in much love. Amen!

My dear precious brethren, may God wonderfully bless you and fill you with all joy in believing the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Eternal grace and peace be unto you. May you have the real fire of the Spirit and the eternal victory in your soul. I am praising God for the victory I have through the Lord Jesus Christ over all the power of the devil. Hallelujah! O glory to God this blessed day for His care for me and leading me so gloriously and blessedly in His own way; and his way is the way of pleasantness. Hallelujah!

I am now on my way home from Missouri, having been gone over in Missouri scattering the holy fire and truth of this blessed evening light. Our last report was from Carthage. From there we came to Nevada and began meeting in the name of Jesus Christ. There were about twenty five who were professing holiness, but when we came there by the spirit of discernment they were very shallow in their experience, and some of them were only having a form and no power. They were dead and cold spiritually, and were not ready for the blessed evening light. We began at repentance and preached real Bible repentance, and many of them were

plowed under, and they could not stand the pure word of God. Five or six of them were using tobacco and professing holiness; using tea and coffee, going on as the world seeking honor and friendship of the world. They believe if a man come up and smite you on the one cheek you would be justified in knocking him down. Oh such abominable, shoddy, worldly compromise, calling this holiness. The people there are just like wild beasts. This kind of stuff, calling it holiness, only stirs the devil in sinners, and causes prejudice in minds of the people. They could not stand the pure Word of God. The standard of holiness has been held up very low in Mo. Seven professed to get to the Lord and get saved, who were backslidden and had given up the profession of holiness. One or more of them was living in adultery professing holiness. We turned the truth on this line and the devil was stired, Bro. Edward Houghton and Otto Bolds were with me there from Carthage and they were ordered away from the house of one who professed holiness, and told to stay away. Such abominable hypocrites to profess holiness. The last night we were there, with the 5th chapter of Matt. they were plowed under. God showed us that we were to shake the dust off our feet against them: we did so in the name of Jesus Christ, and came twenty-five miles south to Lamar where we preached twice to the saints at that place. God has a few here who are living up to all the light they have had. One year ago a tabernacle meeting claimed three hundred and thirty-six sanctified, and only about fifteen or twenty now who profess it; this all for lack of proper teaching. O the great need of this day is holy men who are able to feed the flock after it is gathered. May God bless those who are true at Lamar. Some of them are fighting the sacred ordinance of feet-washing, but this is because of sect teaching. May they come to realize that God means just what He says. Bless His holy name! While al Lamar we saw a notice in the GoodWay (?) paper for some one led of God to come and hold a meeting. We got in the buggy and drove up to Garland Kan. where the notice came from. But they beard about us before we came, and they didult want us to bold meeting, we were not the ones they wanted the Lord to send them, so they desired some one else. A man by the name of Lindsey who is a free-lover and living in adultery, is the one they desired in place of one whom the Lord would send them. O dearly beloved the devil is running every kind of things out on the people under the profession of holiness. We came on our way four miles North-west of Waulnut where we stopped to feed for dinner, and began to talk to the people and they wanted us lo stay and preach for them at their school-house, and now we are here and will preach to-night and longer, the Lord willing. The family with whom we stopped are Cambelites, they are tired of sectism. May God save them. O the harvest is great and the laborers are few. May the Lord of the harvest send more laborers in the field. I remain your free Brother, sanctified wholly, built in the Church of the First born. Hallelujah! Amen and Amen!

To all the saints greeting: — May the God of all grace keep you sweetly saved in Jesus. Amen, and Amen! O praise God for the victory over the dragon, beast and false prophets, and all delusive spirits of devils. Meeting closed eight miles South of Anthony Sunday night, Feb. 5 1888, with victory in our souls. Bro. R. F. Rapp of Vernon Co. Mo. commenced the meeting four weeks ago and carried it on some time by himself; but God wonderfully led us down there and helped us to proclaim his awful messages to men which (with what had already been said) wonderfully stirred the devil; but glory to God who gave us the victory over him. O glory to God! how sweetly Ho did fill our souls. “And yet believing ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory.” “And this is the victory that overcometh the world even our faith.” “And if thou doth believe thou shall be saved.” Glory to God for victory over the world. The meeting closed with twenty-five or thirty converts and ten or twelve sanctified, and with prospect of a good work in the near future. Brother Rapp was buried with Christ in baptism, and all our souls much strengthened. We are out on the sea of glass mingled with fire, with victory over the beast, his image, his mark and the number of his name. Glory to God and the Lamb forever!

Dear Brethren, and saints of God our Father, we greet you all in the love and power of the Holy Ghost. We are saved and kept and filled constantly. Hallelujah! The God of all grace giveth us the victory over every foul and unclean spirit of the devil and causeth us to rejoice and be exceeding joyful. Bless His holy and righteous name for ever more! Amen!

O the darkness that rests upon the hearts of the people in these last days. Truly babylon has fallen and become the habitation of devils: the voice of the Bride and of the Bridegroom is heard no more at all in her, but she is utterly desolate, with nothing but satyrs roaming in the midst of her.

We preached a few nights in the town hall at East Jordan, and O the powers of darkness were intense, but not minding this we hurled the flaming truth into the midst of the people, not fearing or caring what satan could say or do. Hallelujah to God! And the truth had an effect upon the hearts of the people, for the last Sabbath evening that we preached there, there were some forty or fifty Methodists present us near as we could judge, and we asked them how many of them would love to enjoy the blessing of holiness, when all raised their hanes. And again we asked them if they believed it was to be attained in this life, when they most all again raised their hands. O ye priests of Baal, who stand before the people from year to year, and pretend to preach the Gospel, do you not see by this that you are not feeding the people with that true bread that cometh down from Heaven? And how can you, when you yourselves have not tasted of it? For, saith the Scripture, “The husband man that laboreth must first be partaker of the fruit.” O it is terrible to think of the thousands going down in babylon under the carnal priests of to-day who feed themselves and not the flock. God save the people from them.

We preached eight evenings in the hall, and then closed in the name of Jesus and left the town, with the victory on the side of king Jesus for the people said, It is the truth, and we cannot get around it. Many who made profession at all came to us and bade us God speed in this way.

Here at this place it was our lot to come in contact with the class known as the church of the Latter day Saints, or Mormons. These people claim that all of the Church power and authority is concentrated in twelve men, or apostles as they call them. They also claim that no one can receive the Holy Ghost except one or more of these apostles come and lay hands upon them, and claim also that no gift can be given any one without these apostles lay hands upon them, which is doctrine of devils, for we find that the Holy Ghost was given without the laying on of hands as well us by it. On the day of Pentecost one hundred and twenty received the Holy Ghost without it — Acts 2. Also the household of Cornelius and many more with them while Peter was preaching received the Holy Ghost, without the laying on of hands — Acts 10:44. So this sect of Latter day also claim that the Holy Ghost cannot be given without water baptism first, which is a contradiction of the holy writ, for here in Acts 10:47, after these people had received the Holy Ghost Peter now says, “Who can forbid water that these should not be baptized which have received the Holy Ghost as well as us? And he commanded them to be baptized,” &c. It is true that the Holy Ghost was also given by the laying on of hands, as we find recorded in Acts 8:17; 19:1—7, but to say that the Holy Ghost cannot be given without the laying on of hands would be to contradict the blessed Word. But this sect teaches that if we wish to receive the third person in the Trinity that we must wait for one of the apostles to come from Canada or Ohio to lay on their hands, which would not then be given, for ye are not of God, for ye claim that ye have all the apostles now excepting one, and we can tell you which one you are in want of, and that is Jesus Christ. Ye have Him not, neither will you find Him until you plunge beneath the crimson wave and became the children of God. While we were preaching this old gentleman became so enraged that he drummed his ear trumpet on the stage to stop us, but we, by the power of the Holy Spirit declared the truth in such plain terms that the evil spirit in him was silenced, and God received the glory.

January 18 we commenced, meeting in a School-house about midway between Boyne Falls and East Jordan, and continued a little over two weeks, during which time ten consecrated themselves to God, and received the witness of the Spirit to their acceptance of God. While here the Baptists became wonderfully stirred, and one Lord’s day their priest called us a liar before the whole audience, for which we praised God, and the priest was greatly ashamed, and after meeting publicly acknowledged his wrong to us and the people. God bless and save him.

We go now to the small village of Advance situated on Pine Lake. We go so as to commence on Lord’s day evening if the Lord wills. We would have continued longer in this place, but the School-house was closed, the school teacher who is a Methodist found so much fault to the school board that they closed the house. God save them for Jesus’ sake.

A mighty work would have been done for God here if we could have continued the meetings. May God save the people from babylon and open their blind eyes for Jesus’ sake. Amen!

We are rejoicing in complete victory. Our souls are filled, and hearts overflowing with the love of God. Dear saints, pray for us that we may be kept humble and in the order of the Lord. Your saved and blood-washed brother in patience waiting for Christ.

Greeting to all the TRUMPET readers. I praise God for His saving and keeping power. I bless His holy name for what He has done for me, for making me feel very little. We feel that it is to the glory of God to report what the Lord is doing in and about this place. Three weeks ago last Lord’s day we went over to Brother Roush’s to meet with Bro. Evans who was then holding meeting there; he came over with us to our place then went west of here about eight miles to Wingston where he commenced meeting in the name of Jesus only, and when he began to preach the Lord wonderfully blessed His Word, the people acknowledged the truth and were pretty well pleased with it, but some of the sect members who had more zeal for their sect than for truth, soon complained to the school directors who closed the house against the Lord’s servant. Then the meeting was moved to the house of brother and sister Grice, where the attendance was very small, but we believe there was seed sown which in due time will spring up into life everlasting. They were compelled to hear the truth, and the Holy Spirit fastened on them that which they will have to meet, and they cannot come up at the day of judgment and say they did not know, for God’s awful truth will then stare them in the face. There were some honest souls who were justified, and some consecrated for sanctification. We pray God that they may find the pearl of great price. Some were afraid to be designated with the people of God, Christ says: “He that is ashamed of me in this wicked and adulterous generation, of him will I be ashamed before my Father and His holy angels. O what darkness poor deluded souls can get into. If the blind lend the blind they will both fall in the ditch together. Yours in the love of our Redeemer.

Dear saints of the Most High, grace mercy and peace he multiplied unto you all.

We are still in the field working for Jesus, and He wonderfully keeps and helps us in the great work. Praise His holy name! Our testimony is that we are fully saved, saved to the uttermost. Hallelujah!

We started on our northern tour in November. We spent some weeks in the vicinity of Morley, Mecosta Co.. Souls were saved, the Church built up, and much good done in the name of the holy child Jesus. To complete our journey we went on North, expecting to go as far as East Jordan, but were snowed in at Ashton Oceola Co., and from there we returned to our starling place, Morley. We commenced meeting again, the Lord showing us that there was a work yet to be done in that place. The Lord helped us to preach the straight Word which exposed to view the corruption of their hearts and practices, which stirred the devil from his resting place. And he, being very much enraged stirred up the baser sort, who made up a mob of 15 or 20 men and boys. The snow was very deep, and the roads drifted very bad. We did not expect to get to meeting that night, but we received word that they had plowed out a road so we could get to the meeting. The word was brought to us by one of the devil’s crew. We started before night for the place of worship, and turned in on the road plowed out for us. The Spirit of the Lord told us it was a trap set for us, (we did not then know that we had enemies so vile) and to turn around and go back to brother Greens. We obeyed the voice of the Spirit. About 9 o’clock that night a rap was heard at the door, which was answered, and they called for me. I went to the door, and they urged me to come out, but I refused to go, when they threatened to tear down the house over our heads but what they would have us. But the Lord protected us. We were then given 48 hours to leave the place, but we stayed till the Lord said go.

We learned the next morning that the mob supposed we had gone into the trap which they had set for us, so they fell 20 trees across the road so that we could not return, thinking to catch us in the wood. But glory be to Jesus! He that is in us is greater than He that is in the world. Hallelujah! We left it all in the hands of the Lord. Since we came away we learn that the judgments of God have overtaken some of them. The team that plowed out the road, became so lame that it could not be used. And another one, a leader of the mob had his house burned down to the ground in broad day light. Dear brother Barr whom they hated was first on the ground to save property. O how quick God overtakes the wicked.

We came from there to Dimond Springs, preached a few times, then receiving a call from Hamilton we came to this place where we have put in one week of solid work for God. We did not find all things in perfect harmony; the sect element had been working among the saints with all of its destructive power, and was wasting the little Church. One Howard, a Winebrennerian priest, with all his craftiness has been putting forth an effort to deceive by his smooth words, and draw the simple and unsuspecting into his net. But glory to Jesus! the Lord sent us here just in time to assist in their rescue. Praise the Lord! There was a goodly number of consecrations, and some convertions. The little Church is all straight again, and rejoicing in Christ. Glory be to Jesus! And the hangers on have dropped off. It was a glorious meeting to our souls. Hallelujah to His name!

From here we expect to go East as soon as our horse gets able to travel, he having an attack of epizootic, but is getting better fast. May God bless all the dear saints, and especially the workers in the held.

Your Bro. and sister saved and sanctified

Dimond Lake, Mich.

Dearly beloved saints of the living God: the Lord richly bless and fill your souls with peace, love and joy in Christ Jesus.

O we praise the Lord for this wonderful salvation which we have through our blessed Jesus. In our last report we stated that we expected to hold meetings in Dimond Lake. Well we bless God for the Victory gained there for the Lord through the Word of His grace and His holy name. The week from Jan. 15th to 22nd was one of rejoicing on earth and in Heaven, for the showers of blessings which came down in their season. On the evening of the 15th we met at the Dimond Lake School-house, where we had a glorious meeting and witnessed a blessed outpouring of the Holy Spirit. We met again on the eve of the 17th at the house of dear Bro. Boss, where we had another glorious meeting after speaking from Rom. 12:2. Our dear brother and sister Boss came forward and consecrated for entire sanctification, and were wonderfully blessed of the Lord.

On the eve of the 19th. four dear souls came forward for pardon, among whom was dear father Payne in his 70th year. Oh our hearts were melted in gratitude to see this aged father bowed at the throne of mercy, seeking salvation. He also was saved from the appetite of tobacco which he had used for a great many years.

Praise the Lord O my soul and all that is within me bless His holy name. The number of consecrations before the week closed was seven for pardon and two for sanctification. May the dear Lord ever bless and keep them walking with Him in the light. From here we soon go to our next field of labor at Luther. Pray for us.

Your Bro. fully saved in Christ.

The meeting held at Silver Lake Ind., closed January loth with good interest, for which we thank the Lord. We held in a hall which unsaved men who were in favor of the truth had rented for 10 days for us to hold meeting in for the good of that place, and the destruction of mixed religion. God did wonderfully help its in telling the people of their sins and the sin of sectism. Also in holding up the Son of God to them as the only remedy for sin. We had good order, and large attendance. The last Sunday night there were over five hundred present to hear the Word of God in its purity, and quite a number of saints also to tell of the redemption of their souls from sin and sectism. There were only two that came to the altar during the meeting, but many professed to receive light, and declared they would walk in it. We hope to see the seed sown in that place spring up in the near future and yield the peacable fruits of righteousness in the hearts of many that are now in sin. There was but one man who publicly withstood us and he was a poor backslidden preacher. He testified that he was a backslider, and would give most anything if he was back where he was at one time. But the devil seeing that he was telling too much truth caught hold of his tongue and used it for himself a little in saying that coming out from the churches (sects) was all a bosh. But the Word and the Spirit made it hot for him after he sat down, and from that time held his peace j in the meetings.

As we go from place to place holding anti-sectarian meetings on the plain truth of the Bible, we find that the devil, men possessed with devils, sinners, backsliders, saloon keepers and those who go with the cold-hearted professors are in favor of the unscriptural bulk of superfluity (sectism) imposed upon the people instead of the pure religion of our Lord Jesus Christ which is able to save souls from sin and the devil.

Pittsville, Pa.

We left Weston Ohio, Dec. 28, and came across the country in a wagon with brother Long, (a distance of 30 miles) to father Roush’s where we had a glorious Holy Ghost meeting that evening. Next morning 30th we left Bro. Evans at Rising Sun to bold meeting, and going through Fostoria, Cleveland, Ashtabula, and Franklin, we arrived at Red Lion Pa. the 30th, and began meeting. We found Bro. Clayton here who remained part of the time. The dear saints here are glad to see us come, and we are glad to meet and visit with them: and talk to them of the complete love of God, and free salvation we have in Jesus Christ. O praise God for the holy fire that is now burning in the hearts of the little ones. Some leaped and shouted for joy, others were prostrated by the mighty power of God: while some gave vent to their feelings by floods of tears. O hallelujah to God! How the different manifestations of the Spirit strike the melodious cords in our hearts, and we echo back on the same strain making a harmonious chorus of Heavenly music, even in this world.

The Lord is wonderfully using brother Palmer in preaching the straight Word of God. People are very attentive, wisely receive and sanction the true Word and doctrine; but some are plow to act and do. So many see and know this is the right way, renounce the teachings of sectism, say they want us to pray for them, and they want salvation; yet they do not obey the wooings of the Holy Spirit. We never saw such a spirit of deep conviction settle so solemnly on some and then they would not yield. Yet we give God the glory that so many are coming to Christ to be converted and wholly sanctified. It does our hearts so much good to see the young soldiers stand up and testify to what God has done for them.

The meeting at Red Lion closed Jan. 22nd. We praise God that 18 souls were converted, five of whom were sanctified, and two other believers also sanctified.

Glory to God for free salvation, for the mighty manifestations of God’s love and power and the copious showers of the Holy Spirit. How wonderfully the Lord has blest the little ones at Red Lion, in letting them down in the infinite ocean of God’s love, and the sweet fellowship of Christ.

May God ever lead them and keep them firm — standing in the glorious sunlight of Jesus Christ. Amen!

Dear Brethren: — I praise our God this morning for the glorious fullness I feel in my soul. Praise God for the blessed fellowship of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

On Sabbath Jan. 1, we met with the little ones at Hamilton, and found the fire still burning in the hearts of the dear saints. Although a dangerous wolf had gotten in among them in the person of a Winebrennarian priest, who, by fair words and smooth speeches was deceiving some of the little ones, and drawing them away after him. He had previously declared His intentions of tearing the Saints of God to pieces; but finding he could not accomplish this by his teaching, he resorted to strategy. Saying, Let us organize a union Sabbath school with himself at the head, saying he was seeking light, and thereby drew some of the little ones away, having ungodly men as teachers. We at once warned the little ones against the hypocritical light seeker, telling them that the counterfeit nearest the genuine was the most dangerous. We began meeting on Sabbath and continued till Wednesday night. Our God was with us in mighty power and helped us to declare the truth with boldness, and to contend against all the works of the devil. Praise God for victory over all the works of the devil The wrath of men shall praise Him; for by their works some of the little ones saw the counterfeit and acknowledged the same. May the Lord keep them henceforth. Amen!

After the meeting we came here to remain over Sabbath, and found the saints praising God and rejoicing in His salvation. Pray for us that God may work through us to the salvation of many precious souls. Your brother in the Holy war, washed and redeemed.

Henry O. Sharpnack.

NOTE.

For the glory of God, we have a few things to add to the above report. First, I it is known by some of the saints in Mich,. Bro. Sharpnack, has, in the past, not walked entirely uprightly before God. And his first say in the Trumpet should have been an acknowledgement of that fact. But as he has not thought it necessary, we will do the same for him. We have been thankful to learn for a few months past, that he has fully consecrated himself to God, and is making all wrongs right as fast as opportunity enables him to do so. And the Lord has since “counted him faithful, putting him into the ministry. We hope that God will bless him with grace love, power and humility, enabling him to make full proof of his ministry.

Second. We hope the saints of the most High God will learn a lesson from the above circumstances, not to have any fellowship or cooperation with babylon priests, after they have had a chance to learn and walk in the truth, and have not done so. “A man that is a heretic, (that is a sectarian) after the first and second admonition, reject, knowing that he that is such is subverted and sinneth, being condemned of himself.” — Titus 3:10, 11. Learn this lesson; that where the true light, and “pillar and ground of the truth” is established, you need not go to babylon meetings to give light to any one there, for if there be any hungry and honest souls in her, God will lead them to the saints meetings, and there seek God. Thus saith the Lord: Return thou not unto them, but let them return unto you. — Jer. 15. God does not want you to yoke up in any way whatever with babylon, nor be drawn into an attendance and cooperation in sect headed meeting. Stand far off from her, lest ye partake of her sins and receive of her plagues.”

NOT YET DELIVERED.

In answer to the many brethren and sisters that anxiously write us inquiring of Bro. Joseph’s condition, we are sorry to announce that different letters received by us from Pa. do not give our hearts the desired information, that the Bro. has yet recovered out of the snare of his soul. Oh that God may yet bring him out pure as gold. Dear saints cease not to pray earnestly for him and sister Alice, that God may be glorified in their complete deliverance from all the works of the devil.

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your effection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. — Col. 3:1-3.

Allegan, Mich.

To the dear readers of the TRUMPET. I feel led to write my testimony. I do praise God for leading me out in the true light, that I have no need of stumbling. Praise God for the fullness and completeness I have in my soul just now. I praise Him for the glorious plan of salvation, and for saving me from this sinful world. Christ has set me free, this world has no charms for me. I care not to lay up treasures here on the earth, my treasures are in Heaven. I once thought we could have them here on earth and in Heaven to, but since the Lord let the true light shine into my soul, I find that my cares are on Christ Jesus who reigns above. What joy it gives me to know that He has called after my dear children, and they did not refuse His call. My three sons and one daughter, we were all saved one year ago. Praise God that He kept us until we were established in His grace, and are no more tossed to and fro. The Lord took our dear girl from our family circle on the 15th of Dec. last. Although it was hard to part with her, we know that our loss is her gain, and it is well with her soul. Happy are they that die in the Lord. The last two nights of her life, while those who were taking care of her stood around her bed, she would tell them to praise the Lord, she wanted us all to praise the Lord. She said we could not praise Him enough. She said she had perfect joy in her soul.

The dear Lord healed my body last Spring so that I could do my work this last Summer, but I am not well now. I took a severe cold and it has settled on my lungs, but my whole trust is in the Lord. He is the same to-day that He always was, and He will heal mo again if it is His will. I feel to give Him all the praise and glory for what He has done and is still doing for me. My prayer is that we may all be kept low and humble, that we may be raised up at the last day. Your sister.

Dear Brethren: — Thanks be to God, I am saved just now. I praise God that he did call after me, and I had a willing heart to accept Him. I are not to please men, it is the desire of my heart to please God. I find there are many against me, but I am determined to press my way on through, let come what may. Praise God! I do thank Him for this blessed way. He purifies me even as He is pure, through His own precious blood, and am wholly sanctified.

Pray for me dear brethren. Your brother in the love of Christ.

Dear Brethren: — I am happy to testify that I am saved and sanctified wholly to God, and have made my return from babylon to Zion, the Church of the First-born which is written in Heaven. Glory be to God for salvation that saves and keeps me from all sin and sectism, and enables me to have fellowship with all saints that sit together in heavenly places in Christ.

Pray for me dear saints, that the Lord may keep me humble and use me to His own glory, for I feel that I am least of all saints. Yours under the blood.

Vichy, Mo.

O how I do praise God for freedom in Christ. I praise Him for a salvation that enables me to rejoice in sickness. Glory to God for all that He has done for me, and for what He is still doing. Although darkness is all over the land, yet He is keeping me true in Him. I have been passing through some severe trials. His blessed Word says through great tribulation we shall enter into the kingdom of God, and we may know whether we are entering if we take the Bible for our guide and Jesus for our leader. He never leads any one wrong. Let us follow his foot-steps and obey his commands, for they are not grievous. I praise God for His blessed Word. When I read the divine words of our blessed Master, and know that they are truth and forever settled in heaven, O how I do bless His name that He ever brought me out of darkness in to His marvelous light, and gave me an understanding that I might do His will. I feel that I am one of the weakest and most am worthy of all His children, but glory to God! He is no respector of persons. When I was wandering far from my Saviour, He called me back to him, and gave me joy and peace in my soul that blessed peace of God that none can know only those who are the Lord’s. O let us be true to Him who has done so much for us, and is still able to do more for us than we are able to ask or think. May God help us to live to what we testify, that we may not dishonor God. O may we be careful to please God, and always remember that He is looking down on all we do. May the Lord help His people to keep low down at His feet where they may learn the leadings of the Spirit of God.

I have been in this way about two years and have taken the Lord for my physician, and I find Him a present help. He has healed me many times, and I give him all the glory. O how I love Jesus because He first loved me, and gave Himself for me. Although our earthly friends may forsake us, Jesus never will, O this is a great consolation to the Christian to know that we have a friend in Jesus that careth for us. We see so many poor souls that love the praise of men, and are reaching out after the things of this world, and saying they are saved. May God help them to know when they are fully saved in Jesus they will only crave such things as will be a comfort to them and make others comfortable. O how I hunger and thirst for the Word of the Lord. I want to do the will of God and walk in the light as He gives it to me. If He sees fit to give me but little light, amen. O for grace to live it. I praise God that He ever took all the pride out of my heart, and He has kept me true to Him. Pray for me, that God may bring me down lower than I have ever been. Your sister saved.

Dear Brethren: — I am saved to the uttermost this morning. O how I do praise God for this glorious salvation, it is so glorious to my soul. I do praise the holy name of Jesus for this glorious saving and keeping power, and for the healing of my body. I am saved from every thing that is not of God. Glory to Jesus for this blessed salvation that saves me just now. I am saved, sanctified and kept by the mighty power of God.

Dear Brethren: — May all grace and truth and the fullness of God be multiplied this coming year to all the children of truth, who love and read the truth, and do not shun to declare the whole counsel of God. I praise God for His wonderful mercy, ever keeping and leading me in the way of truth, and holiness, having-fellowship with all who are born of the truth, and have a heart to receive, believe, acknowledge and walk in the truth; because we have not received, neither are we guided by the spirit of error, but the Spirit of truth, who leads us into all truth, the Spirit of true holiness, the sanctifier, who brings full salvation, joy unspeakable and full of glory in my soul. Glory to God for His precious gift and inheritance for his children, through faith in Christ our Lord, and obeying the truth. Jesus says, “My Word is truth and shall abide forever;” but if the truth is fallen in the streets, and trampled under foot in one place, it will rise up again in another. The Lord will have his number from the Gentiles. Glory to God, the truth has made me free from all bondage of the devil. I am fully sanctified in Jesus, and with my God I have leaped over all the sect walls. I am now in the heart of my God, having entered in by the door. From your brother in truth.

Dear Saints: — May the blessing of God rest upon you all for Jesus’ sake, is the prayer of your sister saved to the uttermost. I do praise the Lord this Sabbath evening for salvation that saves me so sweetly. I am saved from all the wickedness of this world, redeemed and washed in the all-cleansing blood of the Lamb. I do praise God that I have entered this rest that the Lord has promised to His children. I do thank God for this perfect rest of my soul, and I find that the will of the Lord is not grievous, and His burdens are not hard to bear to us who enjoy His fulness; and we a bright crown shall wear if we only prove faithful till the end of the race, which I expect to do by the grace of God. If it costs this life we shall have life eternal at the right hand of God. Praise the Lord forever and ever! It has been almost three years since I started in this glorious way, and it is growing brighter every day. I never can thank God enough for the salvation of my soul, and for the joy and peace which He gives me. Oh it is sweet to know that we are saved and ready for the coming of Christ at any moment. This narrow way just suits me, for none but the pure can walk therein. Praise the Lord! I am so thankful that I have had a part in the first resurrection, for the Lord has promised that on such the second death shall have no power. Well the Lord is still working here in mighty power in saving a few souls and keeping those that are saved. Praise the Lord! Your sister wholly sanctified and given up to the will of God in all things.

Dear Brethren: — May God bless and wonderfully supply all your needs according to His riches in glory, for Jesus’ sake. Amen! We are well and saved, and sweetly resting in the cleft once made for us. The blessed Lord of mercy is keeping us sweet in our souls. Oh! praise God and the Lamb forever and ever! The work on the Merimac and around StJames is prospering slowly. By received light at the C. M., and not walking in the light, some are going into utter darkness but by the grace of God I will stand alone with Jesus, and not have fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. I am so thankful that the Lord ever sent Bro. Warner and Co. here to preach the straight Word, and that I was so willing to walk in the light. I realize that I, for one, need to be as wise as a serpent and as harmless as a dove, and I realize too that we are as sheep among wolves; but glory be to God! Jesus says, “Lo, I am with you even to the end,” if we will obey His Word, Praise the Lord! I am studying the Word: will you all please pray that I get the true light, and keep down very humble: and if ever a poor servant of God needed wisdom it is me. But I am not discouraged, I told the Lord I would go as far as He would, and by the grace of God I mean it from my heart; for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.” Hallelujah! The devil may whisper, it is not so, but I’ll testily stronger, I’m whiter than snow. Is there anything too hard for the Lord? Hallelujah to God and the Lamb forever and ever! Amen! I am saved.

Dear Saints: — May God bless and keep you filled with the fire continually. Amen! I praise the Lord this morning for salvation that saves me just now. Hallelujah! The Lord has done a complete work in my heart. He has taken away my stony heart and given me a heart of flesh, that I might love and serve Him. Jesus is reigning in my soul and keeps me filled with the fire continually. Glory be to His holy name! I have complete victory over all the works of the devil. The Lord has broken every chain and set me free. Oh how glorious is this freedom in Christ Jesus. I am basking in the sunlight of God’s love, and feeing on the hidden manna. Oh bless the Lord! it is joy and peace continually in serving the living God. It has been five months since God saved my soul, and He has gloriously kept me ever since. This has been the happiest part of my life. I often hear of some of the little ones going back into the world. This seems very strange to me, I cannot believe they get full salvation in their souls: for I cannot see any thing to go back for. Oh I praise God that this world has now no charms for me since Christ has set me free. Your sister in Christ, saved, sanctified and kept by the mighty power of God. Amen!

My testimony is that I saved and I sanctified and kept by the mighty power of God through faith unto salvation, ready to be revealed in the last time. Dear Brethren: — By the leading of the Holy Spirit, I write my testimony; for by no other way than by the Holy Ghost, can we say “Jesus is the Lord;” and “I know I can say, I know that my redeemer liveth: for the never dying love of a crucified Savior is shed abroad in my heart. Since the 27 of last Oct. I have felt the protecting power of God ever surrounding me as a wall of fire, protecting me from the vice and folly of a degrading and sinful world. May my God help me to press onward and upward till I obtain all that God has in store for me. Pray for me. Since I left home, about the first of Dec., I don’t know that I have seen any one that claims to live a holy life. Dear brethren, you can imagine the trials of a young man (aged 19) trying to live for God among relatives and acquaintance of a very worldly character. It was indeed hard for me to do so, being very young in Christ when so tried. But Hallelujah to Jesus! He has never forsaken me, His grace has indeed proved sufficient for me. Christ has promised his children that they should not be tempted above what they are able to bear, if they will put their trust in Him. Oh! glory to God for ever putting it in my heart to trust him; just to take Him at His Word and believe. Doubting nothing.

Would to God some of His servants would come to this God-forsaken place, and revive the Spirit of christanity, for the harvest is indeed great and the laborers are few. May we possess that faith which takes no denial. In praying to God do not take, no, for an answer, but look forward with the eye of faith and grasp His precious promises, and just believe from the depths of your heart it shall be done. I am saved, sanctified and kept by the power of God.

Dear Saints: — As I have taken Christ for my Physcian, I do feel as though I must ask you all to pray earnestly for me that God will increase my faith, that I may never fail to trust in His promises. Three years ago I took the blessed Savior for my Physician, but was afterwards induced to take medicine. I found that my faith in the Lord was weakened, and I had lost grace by trying to please man and not God. My health has been very poor for 20 years. I am 34 years of age now, so the most of my life has been spent in sin and affliction; but glory be to God, at present I am out on His promises and under the blood. Pray for me that I may be healed from all my disease. Your sister in Christ.

…ing that sanctification was an … ..ous work which I had never seen into. I had always believed it was progressive, only obtainable through obeying the three standing ordinances in the so-called church of God. Being not conformed to this world, having been truly converted, living soberly and righteously as far as I knew. But when I compared my relatives letters with the Bible, my spiritual eyes were opened. My Bible testified to the truth of instantaneous sanctification, obtained through the all-cleansing blood of the spotless Lamb of God. By his Holy Spirit I sought and prayed for it daily; but I had not given up all, having reserved several things, having my affection set on some, and I could not love my enemies as Christ did His. Oh the carnal mind which is enmity against God. It is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be; but when I presented my body a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God which was my reasonable service. Then I proved what was that good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even my sanctification. Glory be to God! He filled my soul with His perfect love, cleansed me from the carnal mind to walk in the light as he is in the light. Now I have the mind of Christ. All glory to my Savior. Pray for me that I may stand firm to the end.
