Cast thy Burden on the Lord,

-:‡||§||‡:-

Christian, when thy way seems darkest
And thine eyes with tears are dim,
Straight to God thy Father hast’ning,
Tell thy sorrows unto Him.
Not to human ear confiding
Thy sad tale of grief or care,
But before thy Father kneeling,
Pour out all thy sorrows there.

Sympathy of friends may cheer thee
When the fierce, wild storm is past,
But God only can console thee
When it breaks upon thee first
Go with words or tears or silence,
Only lay them at His feet,
Thou shalt prove how great His pity,
And His tenderness how sweet.

Think too, thy Divine Redeemer
Knew’, as thou canst never know,
All the deepest depths of suff’ring
All the weight of human woe,
And though now in glory seated,
He can hear thy feeblest cry.
Even hear the stifled sighing
Of the dumb heart’s agony.

All thy griefs are by Him ordered,
Needful is each one for thee,
All thy tears by Him are eounted,
One too much there cannot be.
And if, whilst they fall so quickly,
Thou canst own His way is right,
Then each bitter tear of anguish,
Precious is in Jesus’ sight.

For too well thy Savior loves thee
To allow thy life to be
One long, calm, unbroken summer,
One unriffled stormless sea.
He would have thee fondly nestle
Closer to His loving breast,
He would have that world seem brighter
Where alone is perfect rest.

Though His wise and loving purpose
Clearly now thou mayest not see,
Still believe with faith unbroken,
All shall work for good to thee.
Therefore, when thy way seems darkest,
And thine eyes with tears are dim,
Straight to God thy Father hast’ning,
Tell thy sorrows unto Him.

AFTER RETURNING FROM “SOUL CRIPPLED CITY.”

—:§:§:—

So the saints are free forever,
From the fear of beast control.
To the Kings beyond the river
Pay no tribute, custom toll.
Free from foreign intervention
Circuit tax and revenue,
From Sanballats sect convention
In the valley of “Oho.”

Free from conference machinations,
From committee’s round of trash,
From preambles, and discussions,
From the speakers carnal lash.
Free from making, and revising,
Laws for Babel’s stupid god.
Free from voting, wire-pulling,
“All a pompous empty fraud.”

Priest credentials — a deception,
Only needed by the quack,
Void of Holy Spirit unction,
Trusting in a musty stack
Of old sermons garb’ed and stolen —
And Soul Cripple lesson leaves,
All were bound and left consuming,
With her thorn and brier sheaves.
Nahum 1:10.

Not a stone for a foundation,
Nor to lay a comer down.
Did the ransomed carry with them,
From old fallen cripple town.
For their “city hath foundations”
And her builder God alone,
Pure as Heaven, whence descended,
And returning to His throne.

Jesus is our Head and Ruler,
And His Word our only guide.
And His gentle Spirit leader
He our peace, a constant tide,
Flowing in our tranquil bosom,
Where is reared the mystic throne
Of the King of Peace Eternal,
Where He dwells and reigns alone.

O the glorious hope of Zion!
O the riches of his grace!
Ever happy are the people
Who abide in such a place.
God is over all in Glory,
And is through them great and small
And He’s in them by His Spirit,
Jesus, Jesus, All in all.

ANOTHER GOD SETUP IN MICHIGAN.

—§:-:§:—

ANOTHER daughter of the great harlot family has been conceived in the creed-befogged brain of S. B. Shaw, and lately brought forth at Dutton, Mich. The swadlings of the new-born heir of shame and corruption fills the January No. of the “Michigan Holiness Record.” The contents is moldy enough to sicken any scripturally enlightened heart. A large portion of the creed is inserted. A rehash of the old musty traditions of the dark age, framed in popery and transmitted from one to another of the protestant creeds. Had God ever set any man at making a creed He would have given him sense and inspiration enough to make it of original matter, and not a repetition of dark age confusion. We give a sample of the old mummeries tagged on the new babel infant.

“No. 16. Of the Sacraments.”

“Sacraments ordained of Christ are not only badges or tokens of Christian mens profession, but are certain signs of grace, and God’s will toward us, by which He doth work invisibly in us.

“There are two Sacraments ordained of Christ our Lord; that is to say baptism and the Supper of the Lord.”

“17. Of Baptism.”

“Baptism is not only a sign of profession, and mark of difference, whereby Christians are distinguished from others who are not baptized, but is also a sign of regeneration or new birth. Liberty of conscience will be allowed as to the baptism of children.” The above is taken verbatim from the M. E. Discipline, and the latter took it from the Episcopal creed. And the whole patterned after the mother of harlots, Romanism. The mother sect required among her pile of superstitious mummeries, that the catichumes at confirmation be sworn into the sect, or take an oath to forever adhere to and be true to her government and administration. And in connection with this ceremony the person took the bread, in resemblance of the Lord’s Supper. And as complicated rites usually take their names from one of their prominent parts, the Latin word Sacramento, to sware, or take an oath, became the name of the papal bread rite, and finally as general name of rites, which in English was changed to sacrament. This relic of Catholicism has passed into about all the protestant creeds: which fact, with many similar conformities, shows the intimate relation of the mother and her daughters. And now, in this late day of the apostasy; the father of the last born child of confusion shows his reverence for the mother of all confusion, by saying “There are two sacraments ordained of Christ.” Which is a falsehood. For Christ ordained no sacraments at all, no swearing, but He said: swear not at all.”

Then he carries the old superstition that the sacraments are “signs of grace, and baptism, a “badge, or mark of difference, whereby Christians are distinguished from others who are not baptized.” What nonsense. Does baptism put a mark or badge upon a person whereby Ire can afterward he distinguished from other men? This false and foolish saying is found in the Episcopalian creed, and was doubtless taken from Romish trash, and from the Episcopalian, it was garbled into the M. E. and from thence into about all the dozen horns of methodism, and now taken up by the Michigan creed vender.

“18. Of the Lord’s Snpper.”

“The Supper of the Lord is not only a sign of love that Christians ought to have among themselves one to another, but rather it is a sacrament of our redemption by Christ’s death; inso-much that, to such as rightly, worthily and with faith receive the same, it is made a medium through which God doth communicate grace to the heart.”

This confused mess of ignorance arose in the night of Romanism, conveyed from her dogmas to the Episcopal creed, whence it was taken word for word into the M. E. discipline, and now rehashed by S. B. Shaw. How sickening to any enlightened child of of God such mummeries of pawl night. The Supper of the Lord, is a sacrament of our redemption,” a medium of conveying grace to the heart.” No such thing is intimated in the Word of God. It is made to usurp the prerogative of the blood of Christ and the Spirit of God. Observe also in the above dark age description, not one Bible element is really ascribed to the ordinance, as a 6acred monument of the crucified body of Christ, and a symbol of the unity of the Spiritual body of Christ, the Church.

Article 19 makes the washing of the saints feet and the holy kiss optional, which virtually denies that they are commanded in the Word of God, thereby making God’s Word of none effect by their traditions.

Art. 20, treats “Of the Rites and Ceremonies of the Churches.” It says: there is no need of uniformity in these, and “Each particular church may ordain, change or abolish rites and ceremonies so that all things may be done to edification.” This abomination also arose in Romanism, came down through Episcopalianism, into the M. E. creed, thence garbled by the new Shaw-sect. But what does it mean? To what rites does it refer? If New Testament rites, then it gives license to add to and take from the Word of God, and answers to what was foretold of the beast, i. e. that he would “think to change times and laws.” If human manufactured rites and ceremonies are refered to, it also amounts to the same thing as adding to the Word of God, and incurs the curses written in the Divine Volume. To impose human rites and ceremonies on God’s children implies the Word of God is incomplete, and needs men’s supplements. The idea viewed in any light you please is an abomination which any intelligent Christian ought to be ashamed of.

Shaw follows the old Roman, Episcopal, and M. E. falsehood that Christ “came into the world to reconcile His Father to us.

This new creed says: “The Holy Scriptures contain all things necessary for salvation, so that whatsoever is not read therein, nor may be proved thereby, is not to be required of any man.” Such assertions as the above, and that “the New Testament is the only inspired and all- sufficient rule of faith and practice,” are found on record in about every creed on earth, and then the confused babel builders give the lie to their own words by concocting their rules of faith and discipline. “The Holy Scriptures contain all things necessary for salvation.” And yet says the same creed, “We think a written discipline necessary for conscience and harmony, and for the instruction of each member in doctrine and government.” These statements are confusion and contradiction. The Word of God after all is not sufficient to give us a good “conscience;” it is not Sufficient to produce “harmony;” it does not contain the necessary “instruction in doctrine and government.” Common sense, much more the Holy Spirit teaches all men, except sect blinded men, that the Word of God, when received by honest saved men and women, does produce perfect harmony. Facts also prove it true. And yet this blinded sect father thinks that man-made disciplines, — the very things that have divided Christendom — are necessary for harmony. O may God open the blinded eyes. Since it is an adnitted fact that “the Holy Scriptures contain all things necessary for salvation, and whatsoever is not read therein should not be required of any man,” we will not subscribe to the new sect, or any other discipline on earth, for none of them are found in the Bible, and it is abomination for any man in this late day, even after the utter corruption and fall of babylon, to cram a human creed down the throat of an unwary convert.

The new sect is simply a new bone of contention, and cause of wrangle, another god set up on earth for bigots to worship. The whole paper is full of the new creed and the defence of the young child. Jealousy and contention is stirred up between the Free Methodist founder, Roberts, and the new founder, Shaw. The former accuses the latter with having founded his sect upon a lie, and the wife of Shaw writes an article defending her sect founding husband. The Shaw creed leads its devotees back under bondage to the law, and exacts that no persons be “received into the Mission until they promise to pay at least one tenth of their entire income for the preaching of the Gopel.” A law principle without New Testament warrant, and out of harmony with the New Covenant

While sectarian stupidity is thus giving birth to another sect, we read the fact that, the more thoughtful are getting ashamed to impose their sect systems, and soul damning divisions upon the heathen.

We take the following from the Armory.

SECTISM IN THE FOREIGN FIELD.

_____

There is no other place where the evils of sectarianism are so evident, or the need of Christian union so pressing as on the foreign mission field. It is a long step toward union to secure a recognition of these evils and this crying need. The subject is having a very earnest and thorough discussion among the missionaries of China. One of the veterans of the Scotch Presbyterian Society, Dr. Williamson, has lately published a stirring paper in the January and February numbers of the Chinese Recorder. Among the reasons urging the missionaries to co-operate he mentions the magnitude of the work, and the difficulties attending it. He calls it, with good reasons, “the most stupendous task the church ever faced.” He regards the Chinese as the ablest and most unscrupulous of all the non-Christian nations. Nobody probably will dispute this estimate. It is startling to reflect that every year 4,500,000 people are born in China, while all the converts Protestant mission do not number 4,500 per annum. How inexpressibly sad, then, how criminal is the waste of power which results from division! Dr. Williamson declares that the Chinese will not he hound by the creeds of the missionaries nor submit to foreign control in their churches. But he states the argument very pithily when he says:

“Were these creeds and formularies to be placed before ourselves to-day, we would not accept of them as they stand. Why do we seek to place, a yoke upon China that we would not ourselves submit to?”

There are three branches of the Episcopal Church in China, eight kinds of Presbyterians, six of Methodists, two of Congregationalists — in all, thirty-nine different societies represented, besides independent workers. Well does he exclaim, “What a spectacle to thoughtful Chin a men! No wonder they say to us, ‘Agree among yourselves, and then we may listen to you.’

How humiliated he must have felt when told by a Christian Chinaman: “We have considered the question of union, and we are prepared for it. It is you foreign missionaries who keep us apart.”

Why are we not pouring out our treasure and sending forth our men to meet the demands of the hour, and satisfy the cry of the poor perplexed heathen who seek Christ, not a creed? “What do we more than others?” Must we wait until sectarianism is established in China, and then seek to overturn it? Why not make sectarianism impossible by converting the heathen 0 Christ alone, untrammeled by the creeds and confusions of the Western world. – From the Armory.

Before rushing headlong into organizing petty divisions and wicked schisms, why do not men read their Bible and learn that “we are complete in Him.” — Christ. “One in Christ Jesus.” but all divided in “damnable heresies,” “destructive sects,” by human creeds and party organizations. If, after about seven hundred sects have been made, there is not one in existence fit for God’s people to live in, why not abandon the nefarious business of making any more of the evil degenerating institutions? Good-by Christ in the Michigan Holiness Record, hence forth the running geers of the two organisms, the Association and sect leave Christ no room at all.

If the sects are not fit for the heathen and a curse to the cause of salvation in China, how can men ho foolish and blind enough to swallow them up here.

__________

STAND FOR THE RIGHT.

:‡:o:‡:

While none of us liveth to himself, and none of us dieth to himself; while human beings are linked together in fellowship, in sympathy, and in mutual endeavor; it is nevertheless of the utmost importance that every man maintain his own individuality, to that extent that he have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them, and utterly refuse to yield his convictions of right to majorities, however numerous they may be, or to individuals, however influential they may seem.

We have no right to do wrong, whether to please ourselves or to please others. We have no right to follow the multitude to do evil; and if it be insisted that we shall stand alone if we take a right, position, let us remember that when the Lord shall reward evil doers it will be very pleasant for us to be alone and separated from those who have done wrong. I know the influence of old men, I know the persuasive power of majorities. I know the seductions of compromise, and I know that many souls have been ensnared and wounded by such devices of satan. The only safe course is to stand for the right, unalterably determined to do the right thing, and refuse to yield one hair for majorities, or offices, or for friends. We may bear wrong on our own part, but we must not countenance wrong doing toward others. We must stand for God if we stand alone. We must stand for right if all the world oppose us.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — We read in God’s word, if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us of all unrighteousness. I had failed to confess my sins, and therefore could not believe that I was cleansed. As soon as I made the confession publicly last Feb., I felt no more condemnation. I made the final consecration at the time of the Beaver Dam camp meeting one year ago last summer. I was not in attendance at the meeting, but was praying at home and I believe the Lord heard and answered my prayers. He sent Bro. Palmer and his company here. They gave me much encouragement. I told them I believed I had been healed of my deafness but had doubted. I think some one sent some tracts to me which did me much good But before I received the tracts my faith increased, for it seemed to be revealed to me that I would be healed again. So I have relieved nearly ever since, that the Lord is healing me, and I think my health has been slowly improving. Before I was healed, I had faith to believe that my deafness would be healed, but not for my other diseases. If it is convenient for any who has the gift of healing, to come, I would like to have them visit us. At east “Pray for me that my faith fail me not.” I think I have faith to be healed.

Dearly Beloved Saints: — I do praise the Lord for an uttermost salvation. I am resting, calmly resting in the perfect will of God; for this is the will of God even your sanctification. I find that Jesus is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. I do love Jesus and all the dear saints of God. I realize in my soul that the precious blood of Jesus cleanseth my soul from all sin. I will by the grace of God live for Christ alone. From your humble blood- washed sister,

REQUEST FOR PRAYER.

Jan. 14, 1890.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — A request for your earnest and faithful prayers. Pray the Lord of the harvest to send forth reapers into His harvest. In a late issue of the Trumpet there seemed to come an earnest cry, for workers from more than one half of those who contributed articles to its pages. O Lord my soul cries, anoint them and send them out. O beloveds the King’s business demands haste; is your ALL where God can use it?

GOD’S WONDERFUL POWER TO HEAL.

-:‡:||:‡:-

Dear Brethren: — I do feel like praising God for what He has done for me, and for His wonderful power and love to the children of men.

In December 1888 I was taken with the terrible kidney disease, and was sick all winter. I doctored all the time, but did not get any relief until spring. Last fall, about the same time, the same disease came back on me again, but not quite so bad as it was the first time. Well, I was more out in the ocean of God’s love this time, so I began to pray. The Word says: “Is any among yon afflicted, let him pray.” But my prayers did not seem to be answered then, so I asked God what I should do. I felt impressed to write to certain brethren to pray for me that I might be healed, and, praise God! I was healed of that disease. But in less, than a week I was taken with a terrible dizziness, and with pain in my stomach. They would come on me and make me so weak I would have to lie down for half a day at a time. I wrote to the same brethren to pray for me that I might be healed again the first of Feb., but I was not healed then as I expected to be, and my faith began to fail. I knew the fault must be in myself, so I began to think and wonder wherein I was to blame, then I remembered that, I had taken four doses of medicine. Then I felt so unworthy that I did not trust God, but went and got some more medicine, and was getting it ready to take when the Spirit told me that God would heal me. I told my wile that I should not take the medicine, and now I am determined to trust God and be a doer of the Word. Well, God did heal me, and I am His, all I have. Pray for me that I ever keep firm in the faith once delivered to the saints.

Your Bro. under the blood, saved and sanctified.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD

—:§:§:—

Grand Junction, Mich. Fed. 13. ’90.

OUR dear Bro. Palmer spoke in last issue, of a protracted meeting in this place. It was principally carried on through his instrumentality. Many of the dear saints came in from the communities round about this place, and aided in the good work. The truth produced conviction on the minds of many. A few, thank the Lord! yielded to the call of mercy and were saved. We returned home and carried on the meeting a few days in the name of the Lord, while Bro, Palmer departed to preach the Gospel at other places. This was the first effort of the kind in this place since we moved here. And though there are but a very few saved persons yet in this town, thank the Lord there are enough to have precious little meetings. May the Lord add to His Church here such as shall be saved. Amen!

We spent over a week with the Church of God at the Marble School-house in Allegan Co., lately. The enemy through various instrumentalities had done much harm to the saints there. But the Lord blessed the Word to the good of their souls, and about all were gloriously refreshed. Some who had entirely strayed away, were happily restored, and the Church sweetly united in the bonds of love. Quite a number of the dear ones were wholly sanctified. May God bless them all, and give them a burning zeal to work for the salvation of souls.

The Lord is blessing our soul richly in our little sanctuary, writing busily for Him. The work of publication is moving on gloriously. About one thousand orders awaited the completion of “Must We Sin,” last week, and about 1500 have gone out already,

It is clearly the will of God for us to purchase a stereotype outfit, which will enable us to publish matter much cheaper in the future. The cost of getting a couple books stereotyped will both procure the outfit, and make the plates. In the name of Jesus we expect to order the outfit tomorrow, and trust God to furnish the means. We also need means to complete our book bindery. We shall make constant prayer to God, and let all His people hear when he calls upon you. Amen!

—§:-:§:—

Hedrick, Iowa, Jan. 30, 1890.

Dear Brethren: — We are praising God for complete victory over all the powers of the devil. Last Saturday we went to the Carter’s School-house to meet with the saints of God. This is the place where Bro. J. W. Byers and I held meetings a few weeks since. We had a very precious gathering together of the saints, and our hearts were rejoiced to find all the little ones standing firm in the faith of the Gospel. And while the dear ones were passing through severe trials and persecutions, God was settling and establishing their hearts in the glorious grace of entire cleansing. Hallelujah! During our stay there over Sunday, the saints were much strengthened, and deep conviction rested upon the people. Several were almost persuaded to yield to the wooing of the blessed Spirit of God and be saved, and yet it seemed as if they were bound by some unseen power, that they could not break. May the dear Lord soon break the bands of satan and set their captive souls at perfect liberty. We expect, if the Lord wills, to return next week and continue the battle against sin and all the isms of night. Pray for us that God may use us to His glory in the salvation of precious souls. The sectarians are circulating all manner of falsehoods against the saints, and trying to destroy their confidence in God and one another. But praise God, we have the victory over it all, in the name of Jesus. O how our hearts go out to God for the deliverance of every honest one who is yet caged up in these vile sects of delusion and death; for it does seem to us that we are very close to the end of the Gentile grace. O may God inspire all our hearts that we may spread the glorious news of this blessed evening light, and sound the glorious jubilee of complete deliverance from all sects and creeds, either written or unwritten. For indeed every spiritual-child may hear the distant thunder of the awful, and near approaching storm that will soon sweep over this earth in the destruction of all that is unholy and impure. Oh beloved saints, may God help us to realize the great responsibility resting upon us to sound aloud the trump of God, in warning a lost and sinful world of its awful and approaching doom so near at hand.

Yours in the love of Christ, sanctified and saved in Jesus.

Dear Brethren: — Again we are enabled to report a glorious victory in the name our dear Savior, for the came of truth and righteousness at Carter’s School-house. Feb. 5th we set the battle in array against sin and satan. From the very first-meeting we had the complete victory in out souls over all the powers of the enemy. We continued the meeting until Sunday night, when we had to close in order to come home to attend to some business matters. Several consecrated, some for pardon of their sins, and some for the cleansing power. Praise God! all were satisfied, receiving their heart’s desire. We were loath to leave the work, as there were many under deep conviction, and seemed almost persuaded to yield to the call of the Spirit: May the Lord drive the arrows of conviction deeper and deeper in their sin-sick hearts. The Cause of Christ and the true union in Him is moving on gloriously, and souls are being saved sanctified by a second work of grace. Hallelujah to God and the Lamb forevermore. O how blessed it is to know that the dear Lord leads us and keeps us by His mighty power. We expect dear Bro. Michels to visit our place before he returns to his home. Pray that God may keep us in His own divine order, low down at the feet of Jesus, filled with His mighty power.

Yours in the kingdom and patience of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Deadly Beloved Saints: — After holding a few meetings at Union Grove, Ill., we held a week’s meetings near Albany, Ill. Some who had given their heart to the Lord some time before we came, were gloriously sanctified and made to rejoice in the Lord. The general attendance was very small; some were kept away by the La Grippe, but the greatest hinderance was the grip the devil has on the people which will prove fatal unless they flee to the remedy, which is the blood of the everlasting covenant.

From there, Bro. and Sister Byers and myself came to this place where we are in war against sectarianism and all the powers of the devil. We have the victory, hallelujah. We are now in the country, in a School-house, but we expect to hold meetings in the town soon if the Lord wills. Pray for us.

Your Bro. saved and sanctified.

Bellefontaine, Ohio.

To all the holy brethren, and readers of the Trumpet: — After the meeting at Mc Key’s Creek as you see in our last report we went to Kennard, where we tarried nearly a week preaching the Word of God in its purity. The Lord also working with us, and then returned to Mc Key’s Creek and held a few more meetings in the name of the Lord. During our campaign in Logan Co., which lasted about 25 days, about 14 souls were saved through the blood of the Son of God; all of these, but three claimed sanctification. Near the close of these meetings 9 souls followed the Lord in baptism; also the ordinances of feet washing, and communion supper were observed at the house of Bro. L. C. Mast; about 15 participated. Praise God for the rich blessings He poured out upon us, as we followed Him in these sacred works. From here we went to New Hampshire, Ohio, where we joined Bro’s J. N. & G. W. Howard, who already began meeting at that place. Then we found the devil had been hindering the work of salvation with a mass of free-loveism of the worst stage, but praise the Lord! the Spirit of God raised a standard against it: — Isa. 59:19. beneath which we fought in the name of Jesus, and soon all hindrances were removed, and a few souls came to the Lord, and were saved; also 5 dear saints followed the Lord in baptism. While in those parts, we visited St. John & Waynesfield, and sowed a little Gospel seed which we hope will bring forth fruit in due season. From there we came to Flat branch, a place about 3 miles North-west of Bellefountaine, where we tarried 6 days preaching the Word of God with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven, and 3 souls claimed conversion, and 4 sanctification. From there we returned to McKey’s Creek, where we intend to begin meeting to night if the Lord wills. We pray God to save many souls during our stay at this place.

Your Bro’s fully saved in Jesus.

Sidney, O., Feb. 10, 1890.

Dear Brethren: — We are saved to the uttermost, and kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. We are here holding meeting. Bro’s. Schell and Bolds are here with us. We were in Logan Co. near Bellefontaine, Ohio last week where they were holding a meeting which lasted 3 days after our arrival. Several were saved and on Friday the 7th, 11 followed the Lord in baptism, and was buried in the watery grave by our dear Bro. Schell. From here we go to Six Mile, Jennings Co. Ind. near where Bro. Benjamin George lives, where we will begin meeting in the name of our Master, Sabbath, Feb. 16th and continue as the Lord wills. Let all the saints of God pray for us and the work of the Lord in southern Ind. We expect to labor in different parts of Ind. and elsewhere as the Lord opens the way. Your saved Bro. and sister, free in Jesus, out of babylon, standing on the sea of glass with the harp of God, and ready to rush to the battle wherever He leads.

Dear Brethren: — This morning finds me sweetly saved in Jesus, and trusting, Him more fully than ever I did before. Oh praise His holy name for the way in which He is using me in this little place. Dear sister Mary has gone home to stay for a short time, but the Lord is still saving dear souls at this place. The dear ones are standing strong in the faith of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and have denounced babylon, and all of her confusion. O dear saints everywhere, help me to praise His holy name. Eight of them sent in their resignation, and told the preacher that they belonged to the Church of the first-born whose names are written in heaven. Praise God in the highest for sending a poor weak woman with a heart full of love for His holy name, and being willing to work for Him, He just gives me the understanding of His Word, and though I have been saved for four years, I never felt the fullness of His love as I do since I have left all to follow Him whithersoever He leads. My father who is nearly 70 years old, has asked to to healed of a disease of 25 years standing he is so happy in Jesus, that he says he feels like a young man. I am your saved sister in the body of Christ.

Dear Saints: — The Cod of peace be with you. This morning finds me saved. We just closed meeting a few days ago a few miles south of Cook’s station, where God did wonderfully manifest His mighty power, in sweeping away the works of satan and saving precious souls. Praise His name! The meeting lasted but eight days, but with victory for Jesus in every service; in nearly every service souls were either pardoned or purified. About 25 or more were born of God, made happy in tho love of God, and most of them went on unto perfection, consecrated all to Cod, and were sanctified wholly. Bless the Lord! Oh we had a joyful time. The psalmist says: O that men would praise the Lord. The house was filled nearly every day and night With the praises of new born souls. Oh hallelujah to God and the Lamb! at the last of the meeting the dear ones went to the waters edge and had a happy time there, 17 in all were buried with Christ by baptism. This was a pretty sight, all but about three were over 25 years old, and seemed as though they would be true to God. We believe every one had a clear witness of the Spirit to the holy work. Bless God! We then went back to the school-house and had an ordinance meeting in which 30 dear ones took part. This was a blessed meeting. O glory! How the streams of love run down in our hearts. O praise the Lord! Nearly all that were saved were ready in every meeting to pray, testify or obey God or follow, wherever He led, to put off worldly conformity, tobacco, coffee; and live straight for God! We left the dear ones a living fire for God. Hallelujah! Amen! God bless the dear ones and keep them radical for the truth. Bro. Watson’s house was our pleasant home while we were there. God bless the dear family. This leaves us saved in love for the truth.

Galesburg, Kan. Jan. 23, 1890:

Dear Readers of the Trumpet: — We are out in the field for God again, and just enjoying it gloriously. We spent ten weeks at home, and attended a few meetings, and the remainder of the time was spent in taking care of my mother who had met with an accident. Jesus was with me through it all, keeping me by His power. Hallelujah! Sister Kaser and I commenced meeting here Jan. 2, and the prospect seemed very discouraging for a while, but we held on to Christ and His promises, “In as much as ye know that your labor in the Lord’ is not in vain, and they that sow in tears shall reap in joy, and they that go forth and weepeth bringing their sheaves with them!” Praise God! the harvest came soon. Meeting lasted over three weeks, and quite a number were saved. No strict account was kept, but we think there were about 16 converted, 3 or 4 reclaimed and 10 or 12 sanctified wholly. On Sabbath there were six buried with Christ m baptism by Bro. Ed. Houghton. Others expect to obey Christ in that ordinance soon. Last night we had a glorious ordinance meeting in which twenty-seven saints took part, some came from a distance. Christ tells us that we shall be happy if we know His will and do it. The heavenly joy poured down into our souls. To obey is better than sacrifice. Among those whom God snatched as a brand from the burning was Dr. Bryant who is a whole son led man for God. We shall never forget the kindness of Bro. and sister Bryant while we were at their home. May God wonderfully bless them and make them a pillar in the Church.

The Spirit of God got hold of another Bro., and when the Lord saved his soul he made all wrongs right, and restored that which he had taken unjustly; and God put the glory in his soul until it beamed out of his countenance.

Your sisters in the will of God, saved, sanctified and kept by the power of God

Dear Saints and Readers of the Gospel Trumpet Greeting: — We are happy to report to you that we are saved in Jesus’ blood and kept by His power.

The work of the Master committed to us, is prospering by His help, for which we praise His name. Amen! Since we returned to Mich, from our long tour we have been laboring with, and assisting brethren in different meetings, in which much good was done. We visited the saints at Covert, Mich., of late; held meeting about one week; two were made happy by consecrating themselves to God; one for sanctification and the other for both pardon and sanctification. Sinners were melted down in the meetings but refused to let Christ have their hearts; they however request our prayers. God bless them with willingness to serve Him. The Church (including ourselves) was greatly helped and benefited through the Gospel. Many would like to know about Bro. Warner and Co. I would say for information to all, that Bro. Warner is led to remain at the Office and write. Mother Smith has gone home at present, and expects to remain there some time. Sister’s Frankie, Nannie, and myself expect to continue in the field rescuing the lost. We are at present laboring in Co. with Bro. Henry Sharpnack and wife. We are ready to respond to calls far and near. Pray for us, your humble servants, that we may constantly grow more efficient in gathering the ripened grain into the garner of the Lord.

Norwood, Mo., Jan. 14, 1890.

Dear Bro. Warner: — I want to tell you what the Lord has been doing in this part of the country. I have been in the Lord’s work all the the time since the camp- meeting at St. James, and have lost 4 or 5 days in all this time; have held 5 protracted meetings, helped in others, and am in a meeting at the present time; have had success in every one of them, in the name of Jesus. There was a powerful opposition here at the start, but the work is growing rapidly. I am having calls in every direction to come and hold meetings; and am filling them just as fast as I can. The Lord is calling other workers. There are three others who are starting out in the work, and 2 or 3 more I think will be in the work in a short time, besides the saints are all workers, and they are getting thick in this part of the country Though we are opposed by all the sects, the Lord’s work will prosper. Praise God I can still say that I am saved by the grace of God. Oh the sweet peace and comfort, it gives to serve the Lord fully. I know I have given myself over to be used as God sees fit. Praise His holy name, that I was permitted to obtain the precious light that gives me complete victory over the works of the devil God’s Word says, that “Christ was made manifest to destroy the works of the devil,” and I can say praise the Lord, He has destroyed the works of the devil in my case He has cast him out, and praise His holy name, He keeps me free from sin. Oh, how pleasant it is to hold up the standard that Jesus Christ has set up; if we come up to His standard we are sure to enter into His rest. But the standard that men are setting up fall many steps short of the kingdom of our God. The standard that Jesus has set up is true Holiness, and with out it no man shall see the Lord. Oh how strange it seems that some of God’s so called ministers, will stand up, and claim it impossible for a man to live without sin. Some go so far as to say, that it is necessary for some sin to remain, to keep a man humble. It is a shame to hear men claiming to be God’s ministers, teaching such fools doctrine. When we know that Christ was the most humble person that ever trod the earth, and He was without sin. The idea of a man having to keep part of the works of the devil to keep him humble in the sight of God. Away with such teachers, for the devil could not he pleased any better than to have people to believe in such stuff. Christ says make the tree good, and the fruit will be good. He says a good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, and the fountain cannot send forth bitter water, and sweet at the same place. Yet men will stand up, and say the good tree will bear two manner of fruit. That contradicts, what Christ says. God’s Word says he that abides in Christ sinneth not. But he that sinneth, is of the devil. Well Bro. Warner, I would like for you to come down this way. I still remain all on the altar to do the will of my God. Praise His holy name forevemore.

Your Bro. all under the blood.

Dear Saints of the Living God: — The Lord is very precious to me, and saves lo the uttermost all the time. The weather has been very unfavorable, in this part of Canada this winter, as the roads have been ah most impassible on account of mud; yet we are praising the Lord; “for all things, work together for good to them that love God.” we just arived home from St. Ann’s where we had a glorious time in the name of the Lord. Bro. Morley opened his house (the old hotel) where the Lord manifested His power in the salvation of a few souls. In this same house, where Bro. Thomas, used to drink, and revel, he now sings and tells of Jesus, and His love. The conviction was through; the truth had good affect yet comparatively few got clear. All through the meeting, we presented Christ Jesus as the standard. Yours in the fulness.

NEVER TIE ON TO THE BEAST.

In a certain place east, the saints are taking steps to build a house of worship. The question came up whether it would be I right to ask the sectarians, who were bitter enemies to the truth, to give means to aid in its erection, because when they were in the sects they had given means to build their houses. One sister was asked about the matter, and she thought there was no harm in asking them to give. But afterward thinking over it, a vision she had had a short ago came to her mind. It was this. She saw a new good sized frame for a house of worship. It was well put together, but at the north-west corner there was a dreadful beast tied fast to the frame. The same so violently raved and pulled that she saw in the vision of the night, that before it could be loosed it pulled the building over, and both the beast and the frame fell into a lake that was near by. Nevertheless the frame remained all sound. She then understood the vision, and we think you all see what it means. The cause of Christ is a separate thing from the religion of the world. It dishonors the name of Jesus to ask His enemies to help build a house of worship. Let us be honest with God and consistent with all men. The house of Jacob (Israel) is a fire, and the house of Esau, stubble and the fire shall consume the stubble — see Obadiah. Shall the fire ask the stubble to help burn it up? If truth’s enemies act as they feel, they would give nothing, but reproach us for asking them. But if they should give something, it would not be with a good motive, but to tie the beast to the Lord’s house for its overthrow. There is no wrong in asking well disposed sect members, and clever sinners for aid if they are in sympathy with the cause; but keep all chords severed between God’s house and the beastly gog and magog elements that come up from the cold regions of the north.

Respecting the erection of houses of worship, we would suggest that you make the Elders and Deacons and their successors the trustees, and see that they are constituted trustees according to the laws of your state. Moreover since the sect calling itself the “Church of God,” has proved themselves having men among them who are to condescend to the basest rascality, we would suggest that all houses be deeded to the “Church of the Living God,” which will will clearly distinguish it from that sect of the dead god.

Dear Brethren — May God richly bless you all. Amen. The Roanoke report should read, we left the church there in a glorious condition with one exception. The work of God is moving on gloriously here, thus far. There have been about 17 consecrations, and quite a number healed The saints are settling deeper, and being more established, and the pure truth is cutting its waywith conviction, and interest among the people, hallelujah. We are looking to God to save more. Amen. Our dear Bros. Gast and Leininger are still with us, and a good help in the Lord. Praise the Lord. Let all still pray for us and the work that God will give us a rich harvest of souls, amen. From here we re- to Auburn about the middle of Feb., thence to Antwerp, O. about the first of March, the Lord willing. Love to all. Your humble and wholly sanctified co- workers in the Kingdom. Dear Trumpet Readers:— I feel that it would be to the glory of God for me to write and let the readers know that I am saved in the Lord; wholly sanctified to do His will. Oh! praise the Lord for what He is doing for me! He has taken my feet out of the clay, and placed them on the Solid Rock Christ Jesus. Oh! how precious the Lord is to me, He just keeps me by His mighty power. O who would not praise the Lord for His goodness toward me. I am 15 years old, but thanks be to God for His mercy and goodness toward me. I stand by faith. The Word of God says we do not walk by sight, but by faith in Jesus Christ. O praise the Lord for His blessed Word. The Lord is my Rock and my salvation. The devil comes up in a great many ways, but the good book says, ’’resist the devil and he will flee from you Well when the devil comes up with all his powers, I tell him to get behind, and when I show him the sword of the spirit and shield of faith, which is the Lord and His Word, he is off in a short time. He is afraid of the sword and will flee from it; he will always run from the fire of God. I love to catch the devil in his own trap. He is a liar and the father of lies. Praise the Lord for full and free salvaton which keeps a christian ready to keep all of the commandments. Your Bro. saved and sanctified.

Dear Brethren: — I give God all the glory and praise this morning for the way He is leading me, and for this glorious salvation that we can feel deep within our souls, that gives us the mind of Christ and willingness to do our Master’s will, and to feel and to say: Father thy will be done and not mine. As I have read in the Trumpet of late about different fields being opened for God’s ministers to preach the Word, I would ask God to raise up ministers to sand forth in His field to labor for perishing souls, as according to the Word of God I felt the harvert was great and the laborers were few, but little did I think that God wits going to send such a poop ignorant child as I to preach His Word. As He has called both my companion and myself to work in the vineyard of our Lord, we can but say, “Thy will be done.” We desire an interest in the prayers of the I dear saints that we may go forth battling for the right, holding up the blood-stained banner of Jesus before this sin-cursed world.

From your sister in Christ, saved and redeemed by the preciouz blood of Jesus.

Deerfield, Ind,

Dearly Beloved: — I am praising the Lord this evening for His salvation in my soul full and tree. O how I do rejoice in the Lord that He saves me just now from all sin. It has been a little over three years since God for Christ’s sake did save me from all my sins, and did sanctify my nature. And I am still trusting in Him. Glory to God and the Lamb forever and ever!

Dear Brethren: — Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Above all taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye may be able to quench all the firey darts of the wicked. Amen! I feel led to write my testimony once more for the Lord. I have been deaf for 10 years. Ever since I was 11 years of age, but I praise God for His goodness to me, that He has saved me out of the world, and made me to sit in heavenly places in Christ. Oh glory be to His holy name forever! If the dear Lord-can glorify Himself in unstopping my ears He will do it. The first time God’s power was so wonderfully manifested to me, I was testifying for Him, and oh it seemed that heaven was open above my head, and the power of God came down upon me. I could feel it all over my body. Glory to Jesus! God said my name was written in heaven. I will never forget the time. Jesus said: “upon this rock (Christ is the rock) I will build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” I ask you all to pray for God to heal my afflicted body. I am the Lord’s, His will be done I ask you all to pray for my dear father he has been afflicted since the war. He is saved. Your sister in Jesus.

Dear Saints: — As I have not been permitted to meet with you for some mouths, I feel led of the Lord to write my testimony. I praise God to-night for a free and full salvation, one that saves to the utter most. I can truly say that I love God with my whole heart, and I want to tell you how merciful the dear Saviour is. Oh how He has kept me, and heard and answered my prayers. My lot has been cast in … hotel. The proprietor is an irishman, and a strong Catholic, and nearly all of the boarders are of the same belief. They drink and play cards and say they are Christians. The only part of their own belief that they keep is, they will not eat meat on Friday, and tell me I am crazy to believe as I do. They meet me in the halls and in mockery say, praise the Lord! etc. The first few weeks I thought I should surely backslide, for I got very weak, but I took it to the Lord in prayer and not only once a day but all the time, and now bless His holy name it has no effect on me. I just go all over the house singing praises to His dear name and talking salvation to all of them, and I am trusting Him with all of my heart and willing to abide in His will. Pray for me that I may stand firm unto the end.

Your sister saved and sanctified to do my Master’s will.

Dear Brethren: — Enclosed find $1.00 for the Trumpet, for we think the Gospel Trumpet about the best thing we have struck, out side the Bible. We like it because we like Bible truth. We have been hoping that you, or some of God’s true workers would come to the coast, and we live in hopes. We are acquainted with Bro. & Sister, Clayton, who are some where on the coast, but we have lost their address, We should love to hear from them, as we learn they are working on the same line for the master, in the Church of God, May God bless you, and open up some way to the coast.

—:o:—

In Cheshire, Allegan Co. Mich, little Lula I. Conant was taken home to Jesus, aged 3 years, 5 mo. and 13 days. God bless and comfort the parents of dear little Lula and may I hey over live true to Jesus and join their sweet child in Heaven.

She’s gone, Dear Lula’s gone to rest
And left a sorrow in our home.
But when we think how thou art blest,
We long to see thee as thou art,

She’s gone away, the precious bud,
That promised such a lovely rose.
What can we do but bow to God,
And in His bosom seek repose.

She’s gone, her body to the grave,
Her gentle spirit soared above,
To Him who us the blessing gave,
And with her drew to Him our love.

She’s gone, and never did we know
How dear we loved the gentle child,
Till on that morn she bid adieu,
And angel escorts round her smiled.

She’s gone to be a cherubim. —
She seemed an angel here below —
Methinks I hear her spirit sing,
How Jesus washed her white as snow.

THE DEVIL,S REST.

—:o:—

Though there is very little rest for the devil or any of his children, he doubtless does find some respite and consolation in seeing his servants propegate the lies on the earth which he has devised in the pit. Being well pleased with a little paper he commissioned C. H. Jones of Chicago to publish he had him name it “Our Rest”. For all that class of characters only find rest in lies, and have pleasure in unrighteousness. While all honest and upright men and Spirits find rest in believing, loving and obeying the truth. In short the Christian’s rest is Christ Himself. He is a present rest to all the pure in heart. While devils have no real rest now, and only find some poor relief in believing that a lie is the truth. This man seems to know of no rest in Christ now, but only finds rest in the false-hood of future universalism. He says: “We believe that all will finally be saved.’’ But Jesus believes and says, “He that believeth not shall be dammed”. And “these shall go away into everlasting punishment prepared for the devil and Ins angels”. Thus saith the devil’s “Rest:” remember that the Gospel is glad tidings to every creature. Remember also that if you ever tell man, a however debased and filled with sins he may be, a word that is not glad tidings to that creature, that word. is not Gospel. Be careful what you say. To tell a man he is going to hell if he don’t, refrain from evil, or that the Lord is coming and he will be burned to ashes if he don’t refrain, is not only not glad tidings, hut is evil tidings and not true. This is not one whit behind the subtle contradiction of Almighty God by the devil-serpent that talked to Eve in the garden of Eden. This subverted notion of the Gospel is based on the idea that whatever will produce a sensation of pleasure, in whatever condition a person is in, that is Gospel, — good news. O the craftiness and base subtility of the devil! The facts are whatever news when believed utimately produce sinful and destructive results, no matter how much pleasure a person may take in embracing them, are a subterfuge of lies; axe evil news, and not good news, not the gospel. On the other hand that doctrine is good which ends up good. According to Jone’s “Rest” the devil preached all gospel to Eve in the garden, because it was all a very pleasing and flattering story. Whereas God did not preach all Gospel to His first crested earthly pair; because He told them that if they ate any of the fruit of a certain tree they should die. But as long as they believed God’s good Word it worked good. But the belief of satan’s charming story soon turned them into guilt, and misery. So says the “Rest”, To tell a man he is going to hell if he don’t refrain from his evil, etc. is not glad tidings, but evil tidings and not true. So this impudent man accuses God for lying from one end of the Bible to the other. According to this doctrine David told a falsehood when he said “The wicked shall be turned into hell and all the nations that forget, God”. The commission given by Christ is recorded in Mark 16:16 is one halt good and one half evil, one half true the other half a falsehood. According to Jones “Rest” Christ told what was not true when He said, “I say unto you, that whosoever shall say, thou fool shall be in danger of hell fire. Mat. 5:22.

And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. Mat, 5:29, 30.

And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched: Where their worm dieth not and the fire is not quenched. And if thy foot offend thee cut it off: for it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thy eye offend thee pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell. Mark 9:43-48

Had that Jones of Chicago been present when Christ did such evil preaching as the above, no doubt Judas and Jones would have rebuked him sharply, and given him to understand that he was preaching evil tidings, and not true. They would no doubt have told the Lord that they did not enjoy such preaching and therefore was not the Gospel, but evil tidings; and they would perhaps admonished him hereafter to be careful what you say. To tell a man he is going to hell if he don’t refrain from evil, is not only glad tidings but is evil tidings and not true.

But our acquaintance with the Son of God leads to the conclusion that about then he would have said: “get behind me satan for ye are of your father the devil, and his works ye will do. Therefore ye savour not the things of God but the things which are of men. And perhaps this question might have about then been put to Jones and Co. “Ye serpents, ye generations of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell Mat. 23:33. “We do not tell sinners the Lord is coming and they will be burned to ashes,” but we simyly tell them just what the Word of God says, namely, “The Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with all the mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God and obey not the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ! Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power.” — 1 Thess. 1:8, 9.

So we see that both Christ and his apostles preached what Jones call evil tidings. However debased and filled with sins a man may be, Jones says if we tell him a word that is not glad tidings, that word is not gospel. That is no matter how depraved and wicked a man is you must tell him such things as will make him feel good in his sins, such lies as will give him comfort in serving the devil, and encourage him to go on in his wickedness and he will be all right in the end. Jones Rest” teaches us we must be careful and not give any person warning that sin will damn his soul unless he repents; for in case that person desires to continue in sin, such words would not be glad tidings to him. But christ only intended that His gospel would be glad tidings to the meek, to such as wish a remedy for the malady of sin; that wish to escape from the bondage of lust and wickedness. But all who reject him, and prefer to recieve sin shall obtain a far sorer punishment, than if he had never been born into the world. He says: “If I had not come and spoken to them they had not had sin, hut now there remaineth no cloak for this sin — John 15:22. Therefore it will be more terrible for the wicked population of Sodom and Gomorrah, and antidiluvians than people who live and die in sin under the light of the Gospel. This decieved servant of the devil teaches that God is not angry with the wicked, but “is in love with them.” But saith the Lord: “God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day. If he turn not, He will whet His sword; He hath bent His, bow, and made it ready. He hath prepared for him the instruments of death; He ordaineth His arrows against the persecutors.” — Psa. 7:11-13.

“God is in love with the wicked.” What an ungodly expression. It really implies that God loves wickedness, and takes pleasure in their sinful life. That God loves the world of sinners in the sense of having a divine regard for the welfare of their souls is all true. But He hales their sinful characters and lives, therefore is not in love with them; but the. wicked are an abomination in His sight. Jones says, if you wish to have sinners saved, you must not say a word about the fire of God’s wrath that will consume the wicked: you must tell them the lie that there is no hell, no everlasting punishment for the devil and his angels, where all sinners must go. And the devil says, “that’s right, Jones; take away all the ‘fear of the Lord,’ and all the wicked will never come to the ‘beginning of wisdom.’ Yes, Jones, you are doing a fine work. Tell every ungodly sinner that he is bound to go to heaven, no matter how vile he lives, and there will be a good time for the saloon keepers, flourishing business for all the poison brewers and distillers. All murderers and thieves will be able to throw off their whimsical fears, and go into the business more extensively, and thousands more who have the bent in that direction will throw off their former restraints, and embark in the same craft.”

“That’s right, Jones; you persuade men against the voice of their own guilty conscience, that sin will not result in the ‘punishment of everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and the glory of His power,’ and I will then have no trouble to lead them into sin without restraint.”

Be careful, says the devil’s agent, how you speak a word to any sinner that would suggest that his wicked life will be his everlasting ruin, for that would not be glad tidings to him. His gospel is this: “believing the lie that there is no terror in the Lord, we persuade men.” But the inspired Gospel of Christ reads thus: “Knowing the terror of the Lord, we persuade men.” “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness.” — Rom. 1:18.

“But, after thy hardness and impenitent heart, treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil; of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile.” — Rom. 2:5, 9.

“And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.” — Matt. 25:46.

Since therefore the sure Word of God informs us that it is a “fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God,” and except sinners “repent they must all likewise perish,” the most safe, and good, and wholesome news we can send Mr. Jones and all other wicked, deceived sinners, is this: if you repent of all your ungodly deeds, and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, you shall be saved, — saved that instant — but if you believe not, and do not cease from your wicked lives, you will have your portion with the hypocrite and unbeliever in the lake of fire, which is the second death. No lie can be good news. Do not tell a sinner a word that will discomfort him in his sins, says the devil’s teacher. Thus saith God’s Word: “Be afflicted and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.” — James 4:9.

“Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.” — James 5:1.

That there is an everlasting hell for the wicked, — all who live and die in sin, — is just as positively taught in God’s Bible, as the fact of heaven. And to set forth the fact of this future punishment of sin, is preaching good wholesome Gospel to the wicked. Real good news because followed by good results. As it is written, “Some save through fear, pulling them out of the fire.” But the falsehood of universalism is evil news, because it gives free license to sin, and drowns souls in eternal perdition. O let us preach the Word of God, and keep not back the terror of hell, but warn the wicked that he turn from his wickedness. Amen!

WE ARE OF GOD.

—:@:—

And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness. — 1 Jno. 5:19.

I feel led by the Lord to prove these by the two witnesses spoken of in Rev. 11:3. These are the two Olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth 4 verse. Then answered I and said unto him; What are these two Olives trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof? And I answered again, and said unto him: what are these two Olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves? And he answered me and said knowest thou not what these be? and I said no my Lord. Then said he these are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth. Zech. 4:11. 12:13, 14. The candlestick here represents the Church of God, a city set upon a hill whose light cannot be hid. And the golden oil spoken of here represents the Holy Spirit and the Word of God flowing into our hearts, For these are the two witnesses. Praise the Lord. We are anointed by these. But the anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you. 1 Jno. 2:7. But ye have an unction from the Holy One and ye know all things. We know and can prove by the Word that we are the chosen people of God, for the Word says. “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another and the blood of Jesus Christ His son cleanseth us from all sin.” 1 Jno. 1:7. And hereby we do know Him, if we keep His commandments.” 1 Jno. 2:3. We know that we keep all His commandments, and we know we are cleansed from all sin. He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandmeuts,is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 1 Jno. 2:4. — It is easy to show even to the world who are the children of God. The Saviour says by this the world may know that ye are my disciples if ye have love one for another. How much love have they that are of the sects? We know that there is not much love there, for we have been there for five or six years. We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the Spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.” — Jno. 4:6. Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer, and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.” — Jno. 3:15. The Advents claim to be the children of God, but claim that they have no eternal life abiding in them, for when they are dead there is no life until the general resurrection. Praise God, the saints are the only people that God has made a covenant with. For the saints have obeyed the call. We know that the saints have a right to judge every class of people that does not square up with the Word of God: for the Word says: Know ye not that the saints shall judge the world and if the world shall be judge by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? — 1 Cor. 6:2. There may be some of God’s people in the sects yet, but when they hear the call “come out of her my people “and understand the Word, they are ready to leave the old wreck, and serve God aright. The Saviour said by their fruits ye shall know them. We know of some that use tobacco, and get drunk on hard cider: and they say, we do not feel condemned. It is because they have not the spirit of God. But the Word will condemn them if they will read it. For the way is so plain that the wayfaring men though fools shall not err therein. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as He is pure. — 1 Jno. 3; 3. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into on body? — 1 Cor. 12:13. We know we have given Scripture enough to prove that the saints are the only people that serve God aright; and we have the works, and the faith. And we praise the Lord for them both. One more verse from the Word. Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. 2 Thess. 3:6. This one verse ought to convince every honest heart, to leave the sects, and come to the Church of the living God. I praise God that He ever called me into this blessed evening light. We know that the sects are dead to the Word, and the Spirit because they give no heed to either one. I thought I would stop here, but the Lord leads me on further. Now we will examine the foundation of the Church and see who are on that foundation. Nevertheless, the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, the Lord knoweth them that are His. — 2 Tim. 2:19. We know by this Scripture when we come to God, and are willing to bo His, and stand on the foundation laid down by the apostles, and prophets Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone. He will put His seal upon us and we are willing to be led by the Holy Spirit. In whom also after that ye believed ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise. — Eph. 1:13. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God. Eph. 2:19. This verse tells us very plain who are the people of God. We hear the cry of the sects, “I can’t go to hear the saints preach because they are tearing our churches down.“ Their churches could not have been built on the foundation spoken of in Matt. 16:18. But praise God, there is where our foundation is, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. There is one Body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling. Eph. 4:4. We see in God’s true Church there is a oneness in all things. Where there are strife, and division like there are in the sect denomnations, it is all carnality, and a true child of God does not want to stay there, but his zeal hungers after the unity of God’s true children, and will leave the old wreck as soon as he hears, and understands this blessed evening light. And praise God forever. Our earnest desire is to contend for the faith which was once delivered to the saints. But beloved remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: How that they told you, there should be mockers in the last time who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. — Jude. 17, 18, 19. How much we can see this Scripture fulfilled all over the country by those that profess to love God. But the true Church will stand here until the Saviour comes, and takes her to himself.

NO CROSS NO CROWN.

-:‡:-:‡:-

We are told of the straight gate, the narrow way, the yoke, the burden, the race, the warfare, yea the whole man is to be brought under new influence, governed by new principles and to live for new ends. Self-denial, self discipline, and self conquest are made indispensable prerequisites for the kingdom of Heaven. This is the cross; it stands in the path of life, it must be embraced. Christ is the way to God. This atonement, example, doctrines and commandments. There is no other way, there can be no other — a wall of adament wide as earth and high as heaven, meets us in our attempts to find one. Religions duties are not congenial to the carnal mind. To the unconverted the cross is irksome. Religions duties are imposed: not that by performing them we may earn a title to heaven, but because they are necessary for the purification of our moral nature through the grace of Christ, that we may become meet to be partakers of the inheritance with the saints in light. To neglect the cross is to neglect all; it is to go to the feast without the wedding garment — To go fourth to meet the Bridegroom without light and without oil in our vessels. We may substitute some thing else for the cross, such as morality, philosophy or even works of penance. It will be all in vain as long as we continue unwashed, unjustified, unsanctified, we are unsafe in momentary danger of hellfire or banishment from God. There is no neutral ground. In revolutions of states and empires; those that do not take up arms against the foe are considered enemies. It is so here in the kingdom of grace. Christ said: He that is not for me is against me. This is the conclusion of the whole matter. When Christ comes to judge the world, all who will not now take up the cross will be regarded as enemies. Instead of heaven, everlasting fire with the devil and his angels. No cross no crown. The cross and crown are joined together, and what God has joined together let no man put asunder. Remember the young man in the Gospel, who came to Jesus desirous of eternal life, and said what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? Sell all thou hast, take up the cross and come and follow me and thou shalt have treasures in heaven. Oh how he wants the treasure, but he can not have the one without the other; they cannot be separated and he goes away sorrowful for he had great possessions. He hesitates, he looks at Jesus as much as to say is there no other way? The dear blessed Savior understands him, He points him to the cross again. “Except a man deny himself and take up his cross he cannot be my disciple. ’’Dear friends have the cross and crown also. Look at the christian that denies himself and walks boldly up and bears the cross; he supposed it would be heavy; but now it is light and the yoke is easy and the burden is light; and instead of the cross bearing him down, it bears him up; instead of sorrow, he has joy; instead of unrest, he now has peace; yes peace that flows like a river. Oh give me the cross, I love to bear it I have it from my youth and now it bears me; glory to God it is easier to bear the cross than to go without; and soon I shall exchange the cross for the crown. Hallelujah, Amen!

Blanco, Pa.

Dear Saints: — I feel led of the Lord to write my testimony to the Trumpet. I do praise God for a Bible salvation. The blood of Jesus Christ God’s Son cleanseth me from all sin. And sanctifies my soul by a second work of grace. And I have overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of my testimony. Bless the Lord oh my soul. Oh dear saints let us ever be true to God. And keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. Who is the author and finisher of our faith. The Word says that the work of righteousness shall be peace: and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever. And His people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation and in sure dwellings, and quiet resting places; Glory be to Jesus. Truly God is good to Israel even to such as are of a clean heart. Praise God, I am saved and sanctified and kept by the mighty power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. And I desire to fill my place in the Body of Christ. Pray for me that I may do the whole will of God. Your humble blood washed sister,

Mary Sowers.
