Infidelity and Religion.

—:o:—

Two Spirits o’er an open grave were bending,
Their gaze far down its gloomy chamber sending.
One, with a brow of stem and cold despair,
And sable weeds and cypress in his hair,
Turned not his eyes, so fixed and dark with woe,
From the cold pit, which fearful yawned below.
The other stood with garments pure and white
As deck the dwellers of the land of light:
Her placid brow was as an angel’s fair,
While calm and joyous was her gentle air;
And though within the grave she dropped a tear,
Her upturned eye was still serene and clear.

“Life!” said the Spirit with the brow of gloom,
His arm outstretching o’er the gaping tomb —
“ ’Tis a deep and sullen river,
Rolling slowly to the sea,
There to be engulfed forever
In a dark eternity!”

“Nay,” said the shining one, with upturned eye,
And smile so clear it mirrored back the sky —
“Tis a sunny streamlet gliding
Gently on to seek its goal;
There in God’s own bosom hiding —
Bright and pure, a white-robed soul.”

But the dark Spirit’s gloomy voice again
Doled out in slow and melancholy strain:
“Tis a mournful weed, that growth
Lone and friendless in the world,
Which a ghastly reaper moweth,
And ’tis to oblivion hurled!”

“Nay,” the bright, gentle one replied once more,
And softer still the holy smile she wore —
“ ’Tis a starry flower uprising
Through all ills a trusting eye,
Evermore its Maker praising —
Fading here to bloom on high!”

Slowly the dark one sunk his gloomy brow,
As once again he murmured sad and low:
” ‘Tis a storm, for ever sweeping
O’er a bleak and barren heath;
Tossing, surging, never sleeping,
Till it lull in endless death!”

“Nay!” and the hoping Spirit’s hands were prest
In meek and holy rapture to her breast —
” “Tis a friendly rain, that showers
On a fair and pleasant land,
Where the darkest cloud that lowers
By the rainbow still is spanned!”

Stern was the gaze of sorrow and despair
That now was fixed upon the Spirit fair,
As, a last time, the hopeless wailer’s burst
Of anguish came more drear than e’en at first:
” “Tis a haunting vision, blended
Evermore with tears and pain:
“Tis a dream, that best were ended;
Life is false, and life is vain!”

Ceased the dark Spirit — and a sable cloud
O’er his set features folded like a shroud;
Then slowly sank, as sinks the dying wave,
In the dark chambers of the yawning grave.
Silently closed the damp turf o’er his head,
And the stern Spirit, like the mortal dead,
Came not again from out his gloomy bed!

“Life!” said the shining one, as, stretching forth
Her long, fair arms, she blessed the teeming earth —
“Life is true, and life is real!
Life has worthy deeds for all;
“Tis no vain and false ideal,
Ending with the shroud and pall.
Up and do, then, dreaming mortal!
With a strong heart toil away:
Earth has cares, but Heaven a portal
Opening up to endless day!”

Shu paused, and o’er her pure and spotless breast
Drew the soft drapery of her snowy vest;
Her long, fair arms extended yet once more
To bless the earth she oft had blessed before;
Then turned away to pour her heavenly light
In genial florals where all were else but night.

Still dwells she here, that child of heavenly birth —
Soothing the sorrows of the sons of earth:
Drying the tears that dim the mourner’s eye;
Gently subding grief’s desponding sigh;
Winging with rapture e’en the parting breath,
And wreathing smiles around the lips of death!

Blest be her path along life’s rugged way!
Blessed be her smiles which light the darkest day!
And blest the tears that, trusting still, she weeps,
Where the dark Spirit yet in silence sleeps!

MUST WE SIN?

—:o:—

We wish to find out the truth of the matter, concerning this false doctrine, that is being promulgated all over the world. Namely, “If any man says he lives without sin, he is a liar and the truth is not in him.” A great many will quote this language supposing it to be the Word of God, but are badly deceived by the devil. That text emanated from the devil and is not in the Word of God.

We will investigate the Word of God on this subject. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth. 1 John 1:6. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. 1 John 1:10. It is a well known fact that. “All have sinned and came short of the glory of God.” We are glad this is in the past with us; however that does not over throw the fact, that God can save us now. If we were to consult the nominal professors of to day, concerning a life without sin, they would declare at once that it is an utter impossibility, while in this world. Such a doctrine is perfect unbelief, and dishonoring to God and His Word. The woe of the Almighty is upon all who are careless and inconsistent enough to please the devil, and gratify the lust of the flesh, by holding and propagating such a false theory. The Word of Divine Authority speaks very plainly on this subject. “He that committeth sin is of the devil,” and not of God. They (“professors of God, but lovers of sin,”) tell ns it is impossible to live without sin; but the Apostle turns the subject around and says, “How shall we who are dead to sin, live any longer therein?” Hence it is not possible (spiritually speaking) to live in sin, because all who are thus living, are dead while they live.

If ye live after the flesh ye shall die, but if ye through the Spirit mortify (Greek put to death) the deeds of the body, (“body of sin”) ye shall live. Rom. — 8:13. If you are thus practicing sin, it is evident enough that you are not dead, hut you are dishonoring Jesus Christ, who is willing, and who died to save all sinners. Though you are making a profession, it matters not; sinners in the sight and estimation of God, “Are of the devil,” and void of the Divine Spirit.

There is no line of distinction between sinners, whether professors of religion or non-professors; the devil has them all in the same basket, and God says, They are very bad figs. Jer. 24:2. Christ has procured salvation for all who are willing to accept the plan, and bow to the rules of His kingdom. People forget that God, through Christ, is the One proposing to save us, and thus limit His Divinity in the estimation of the world; hence this world is duped by the devil, through the instrumentality of his servants, professing to be God’s, going about as “angel’s of light,” alluring all whom they can practice deception upon. May God in His mercy remember all who are concerned about their souls, and open their eyes to see the awful pit, into which the devil would engulf their poor souls. “Search the Scriptures,” and be not deceived in this matter.

The inspired Bible will endure forever, but man with all his sayings will fade away; as “the flower of the grass they shall perish.” We ask no one to receive our savings, but the Word of God which we speak you must receive; for you will meet it, and be judged by the same, at the awful tribunal, when God, the Eternal shall open the books. Perhaps some will say: “I do not know what to do, or where to go, in order to know that I am right with God, and have the assurance that I am saved.”

It matters not how much confused you are because of the great divisions existing in babylon; God bless your dear souls, if you are honest before God, you need not be thus deceived by the enemy; but make one everlasting resolution in your heart to be right with God, at the loss and cost of all things, and square your life up to the Bible; determine to serve God and live inside of His Word all the rest of your days irrespective of all men.

By trusting in God you will find Him a present Savior and preserver from all sin. God is always our sufficiency; but He requires a constant trust, and reliance upon His Word, with perfect loyalty in order to retain salvation.

And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways;

To give knowledge of salvation unto His people by the remission of their sins,

Through the tender mercy of our God; Whereby the day-spring from on high hath visited us,

To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. Luke 1:76-79. Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them. Psalms 119:165.

Having obtained salvation, we are prepared to grow, develop and learn His ways more perfectly, and the cunning devices of satan. We can wonderfully explore the heavenly and divine regions after we are wholly sanctified to God. And besides this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things ye shall never fall. 2 Peter 1:5-10.

“We go not to Heaven, salvation to know,
But Jesus came down to make whiter than snow;
He’ll wait not death’s coming assistance to lend,
But save you just now and to worlds without end.”

God is present in every conflict, and through Christ, He is our sufficient grace at all times. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. Rom. 8:22.

“If ye continue in my Word (not mans) ye shall be my disciples indeed and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Hallelujah to God! who hath consummated the plan of salvation, through Christ, our present Redeemer. The pool is open, the water is troubled, plunge beneath the crimson tide, lest you be destroyed in everlasting perdition.

See the crystal tide is flowing,
O that fountain cleanses me.
Now my heart with love is glowing;
Praise the Lord my soul is free.

Your saved Bro. in Christ, whiter than snow by His blood.

B. E. Warren.

WHO IS MEET FOR THE MASTER’S USE?

—:o:—

PAUL in his second epistle to Timothy 2:2., says: “And the things thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” They must be faithful and able to teach. If the reader will notice farther on in this chapter, it will be seen there is a house mentioned with vessels of gold and silver, and wood and earth; some to honor and some to dishonor; and it is also seen that there are some of the elect who have not obtained the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory; while we can see that some have obtained it being made perfect in Christ Jesus. Again to be meet (fit) for the Master’s use, a man must be able to divide the Word; hence must understand it. Now read 1 Cor. 3:9. The Corinthian brethren were not meet for the Master’s use, because there was envying, strife and divisions among them; and this proved they had need of milk and not meat; (the truth that makes one of many, having the mind of Christ.) Mark well, both he that planteth and he that watereth are all one, for we are laborers together with God; ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building. Again read Heb. 5:12-14. You will see without a doubt that they who use milk, are not fit for teachers, not meet for the Master’s use. “But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.” Now where is the line between childhood and manhood? There seems to be nothing more reasonable and plain to every man’s conscience, as that childhood begins when God for Christs’ sake forgives the sins and blots out with the blood of Christ Jesus, the stains that our actual transgressions have made since we reached the years of accountability; this brings us to childhood and no stain is left of sins committed.

We were children of satan, now we are adopted into the family of God. “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” And He is faithful to forgive every sin confessed, and to cleanse from all unrighteousness. Bless His name for ever! But shall we remain children? Where is the line of manhood? Read Heb. 5:14. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, (a man) even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. This is wrought by the Sanctifier. Now we have the house with its vessels of gold and silver, and wood and earth; now read 2 Tim. 2:21. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and meet for the Master’s use, and prepared unto every good work. Well my soul doth magnify the Lord who hath given ns this treasure in earthen vessels, that the glory may be of God and not of man. I have given up all that I have, that I may be worthy to be His disciple ready to go any where the Lord may send me, cleansed and sanctified through the Word by the blood of Jesus.

Glory to God! there is no strife or dissension in my soul. I have ceased from my own works and entered into rest. “He that believeth hath entered into res.”

I am now working at the car-shop; I have been in debt for some time, which has hindered me, and my health has been poor, for the reason, God knows. The earth is the Lords’ and the fulness thereof.

My debts are small, if He sees fit to pay them by my labor at the shop, amen; if some other way, amen. I realize He has given me food that many are starving for; and He tells me if I am not willing to carry it to others it will be taken from me, so I am willing, “here am I send me.” Amen!

Stevensville, Mich.,

My testimony is, that I am just living every day and moment of my life with Christ, saved from all sin. I praise His dear name for full and free salvation, that keeps us from sin! He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 1 John 3:8, 9. I ask the prayers of all the saints. Your Bro. saved, sanctified and kept by the power of God each day.

Dear Saints: — My testimony is, that I am saved and continually kept by the mighty power of God. O, how I praise God for this blessed Evening Light! it has been joy and peace to my soul, for the last sixteen months. I am growing stronger every day, and more firmly established in His precious Word; although we have many trials, temptations and persecutions to encounter, yet God’s grace is sufficient, if we put our trust in Him. I am walking in the light as He gives it to me, ready to do His will at all times. My prayer is, that God may save many perishing souls, before it is too late. I ask all the dear ones to pray mightily for the saints at this place that they may stand firm and immovable unto the end. Your Bro saved and kept by the power of God, ready to be revealed in the last day. Glory to His name forever!

Albany, Ill.,

Dear Saints: — I feel led to testify to what God has done for me. I am so thankful that He has called me out of darkness into this marvelous light. Glory to Jesus! I am sweetly saved just now.

I was converted about four years ago; and even when a child I always had the desire to be a christian, and often had deep convictions, against which I strove until I could stand it no longer; I then gave my heart to Jesus and He wonderfully blest my soul; I felt that I was a child of God and this gave me much joy and peace. But I was very young and sometimes would give over to temptation and lose sight of the blessed light in which I was walking; this troubled me very much, and I longed to live a life free from all sin; a life wholly devoted to the cause of my dear Redeemer. I knew that God wanted me to consecrate my all to Him, but I was not willing; I kept striving against these convictions of God, and soon brought myself into darkness. O, that every soul would follow the leading of the Spirit! I can hot express the agony I felt in my soul; darkness above, beneath and all around me. I was striving against God who in His tender mercy wanted to lead me out of this terrible wilderness. At last I saw that the only way was to obey God or I would be forever lost. I counted the cost and thought I could not make the sacrifice; but I felt that I must do something, and knew this was the only way.

Last April during the meeting held here by Bro. Warner and company, I came to God as a little child; consecrated my soul and: body to Him; died the death to the world, the flesh and the devil; and became willing to be nothing in this world, but to be all for Christ. Oh! dear friends, it was a hard struggle, but thanks be to God, I gained the victory through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And O, what glory fills my soul. I am sweetly saved from all sin; I am living in Christ and do not walk in darkness, but have the light of life. May all the dear saints pray that I may keep looking to Jesus who will never leave nor forsake me. Your sister saved, sanctified and kept by the power of God.

Big Bend, Pa.,

Dear Brethren: — I am lead of the Lord to give in my testimony. I am saved and sanctified just now. Praise God for salvation that keeps us from all sin. Hallelujah to God and the Lamb forever! He is our physician and guide; our all and in all. No tongue can tell the joy it gives us to know we are saved, and on the Rock Christ Jesus. Praise God! He has taken all pride and self out of me; and gives me grace to overcome all the temptations of the wicked one. I have no anxiety to work on Sunday as some do here in this part of the country; a man who works on Sunday for gain is not a child of God, but he is a sinner in His sight.

There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.

The poor is hated even of his own neighbor: but the rich hath many friends.

He that despiseth his neighor sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.

A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.

The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death. Prov. 14:12, 14, 20, 21, 25, 32.

Praise God! His Word is so plain, that no one need be in blindness. I was at Hendersonville and met several of the little ones; and we had a glorious meeting, and God was with us in mighty power; we observed the ordinances of feet washing and the Lord’s supper. Praise God! I’m free, saved from all sin. Your Bro. in Christ.

Dear Saints: — May God bless you all with His fullness for Jesus’ sake. Amen! I want to testify to the salvation which is eternal glory in my soul. I am kept by His mighty power divine, above every thing that the devil can bring against me. I do love this holy war against sin and I expect a complete victory all the time for I have Jesus as a leader and He never last a battle. Your Bro. saved and sanctified by the blood of Jesus. Amen!

A good pavilion was erected last year, with comfortable seats with backs to them. The grove is a beautiful one; many of the saints are in good circumstances, with large hearts, and every body is invited.

Such as come from a distance, will be cared for, if without the comforts of life with them. Let as many bring tents as can or order one built by addressing Bro. Jacob Petry Beaver Dam, and it will be furnished as cheap as possible. This meeting is becoming a general meeting, saints are coming from afar. Come all who can.

God has a few pure saints in that place, and we hope there will be a good turn out of all the holy people in that, and surrounding counties. Come in the name of the Lord. Bring along tents, or at least bedding and provisions. It is not expected that the saints living near a camp meeting should, feed the people and furnish a resting, and unless dear saints take this matter in consideration; those near are often deprived of all the benifits of the meeting, except the blessedness of giving. God’s saints are always willing to do all they can for others, nevertheless, let all seek not to impose unnecessary burdens. Any that are not able to provide themselves; will be cheerfully supplied. We hope to have a glorious meeting at Jerry City Ohio. Wood Co. Come all who wish to get good. Amen!

CAMP AND GROVE MEETINGS IN PA,

No preventing providence our company will hold meetings in Pa., as follows.

A Camp Meeting

Near Rockland Station, Venango Co., Aug. 23-30. Rockland is a flag station on the Alleghenny Valley R. R. Reduced rates have been procured on that line. A good grove and all necessary comforts will be provided. Any one wishing tents built on the ground can order them by addressing Bro. David Farren, Pittsville, Pa., and they will be put up according to order, as cheap as possible.

A general rally of the saints is earnestly desired at this meeting. Bring tents, or come prepared for camping all that possible can. Accommodations will doubtless be on the ground, for such as cannot come prepared. We are praying the Lord to give us a glorious meeting there; of course all the ministerial brethren are invited and expected as far as possible; everybody wishing to do good and get good are invited. We advise the brethren to allow no regular sale stand on the ground, and no huxstering. But let one brother keep in connection with his tent, an eating table and a store of provision, and furnish nothing but the actual necessaries of life; such as bread, crackers, cheese, meats and fruits. We have settled this forever, never to give consent to any stand simply to make money. We felt that God was greatly pleased with the way this matter was managed at the Bangor Camp. Bro. Michels kept such a supply for the people; took in a good deal of money, but boarded most of the preachers, and many others free; came out about clear, and all was holiness to the Lord. Let the saints put notices in the secular papers to that effect, and carry out the plan for the glory of God. If parties disregard your rights given by law, and can not be kindly persuaded to stop, put a warrant upon them, have witnesses who can testify to what was sold, and that money was actually taken. If the parties continue to violate the law, issue a second warrant, and so on; for some will pay one fine, in order to take in money all day on Sabbath. Dear brethren see to this; God wants no trafficing institution on His camp for filthy lucre.

NEWS FROM THE HELD.

A GREAT WORK OF GOD.

—:o:—

SUCH was indeed the marvelous assembly meeting in Gratiot Co. Mich. June 27 to the close of July 3. Our little Company of workers and dear Bro. S. L. Speck went up in the name of the Lord, full of power by the Holy Spirit, and of might and judgement. For some time, there had been some discord, and trouble among the many saints in that country. God blessed His own Word and made it quick and powerful, and sharper than any two edged Sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul, and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. — Heb. 4:12. O praise God! We found great harm had resulted to the cause of God, from the breaking of the unity of the Spirit. But we had confidence in the sincerity of all the professed saints, and especially had faith in God to make all who were crooked straight. Instead of babylon sect trials we had salvation meetings. From the first invitation to the last the altar seats were pretty well filled up. In the five days there were doubtless over one hunderd consecrations. The work was deep and searching, the Holy Spirit witnessed in mighty power to many hearts. Some of the dear brethren in the ministry who have been working for the Lord the best they could for some years, were convinced, and had humility enough to confess that they had never been wholly sanctified. Hence the troubles that have retarded the work so much. All got down very lowly and most received the great salvation with eternal glory. We earnestly hope that all who sought God, and did not reach the mighty baptismal fire will never stop pressing the matter until “perfect, and entire wanting nothing.” O what a pity that dear brethren who have been trying to preach the Gospel for several years have not been dead indeed all this time. Though some have been somewhat successful, upon the other hand offenses have come, and souls been stumbled and weak ones overthown. O that our God would lead all who endeaver to bear the vessels of the Lord to be holy indeed unto God, and filled with the Spirit. All jars, and interruptions of the peace of Zion are for the want of full salvation. O what a wonderful gathering back into the fold, of souls who had been driven away, and stumbled by the troubles. It impossible but what offences will come, but thank God, His Church has a renovator, a purging process, which being brought to work expurges from among the saints all disturbing elements, and restores peace. Whereas there is no healing of babylon.

There were nine baptized by brother Shelly during the meeting. On the last evening a very precious ordinance meeting was held. Many of the saints had gone home, but there were about 90 present to follow the precious examples and commands of Jesus. O what a blessed heavenly time. How our hearts were melted down in the love of Jesus. May the Lord bless all the beloved saints in that country. We have not been there for two years, and we find notwithstanding the hindrances the work, has spead gloriously. Where we held the meeting in Hamilton township a good commodious meeting house has been erected. Several miles north there is another new house for the worship of God.

Two years ago a few souls came over from Dushville Isabella Co. to the camp meeting, received the truth, and renounced Free Methodism. God has been blessing their souls and spreading the work there gloriously. Several of the Church were over to the meeting, filled with the fire and testimony. Praise God!

Bro. Pierce from that place was orpained Elder. Also sister Elizabeth Walters of St Louis Mich., was ordained to the ministry of the Gospel of Christ, by the laying on of hands. Also Bro. S. Hill, and Bro. Peter Zimmerman were ordained additional Elder and Deacon in the Church of God in Hamilton.

God bless His saints abundantly in that country, and prosper His great work. Mother Smith remained there a few weeks to visit her daughter, and the saints. Bro,s Samuel Speck, and Barney, and Sisters Frankie and Nannie returned with us to the TRUMPET OFFICE. All are busy here helping on the great work. Let all saints pray for sister Celia Byrum, who is still poorly, but the Lord is raisng her up. We are working hard to get the Song Book out, and trust God will help us do so, in time for the Beaver Dam meeting. Thank God for some gratefully received donations. God bless the willing and liberal hearts; I pray that others will do their duty to help on the great work. Amen!

Altamont Kan.

Dear Brethren: — May God bless you, and fill you with all the fullness of God, and may your faith grow exceedingly. Love and peace be multiplied unto you, and may your will be absorbed in the sweet will of God: May you all be enabled to say amen to all the will of God, and stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made you free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. O my dearly beloved, keep free, and sweet. O beloved it is a terrible thing to be in bondage, to be bound by any thing. For of whom a man is overcome of the same is he brought in bondage. — 2 Peter. 2:19. O that ye may have continual victory in your soul over the world the flesh and the devil, over all the power of the enemy. Keep down at the feet of Jesus, having fervent charity among yourselves, and let the peace of God rule in your hearts, having the same mind, being knit together in love: let nothing be done through strife, or vain glory; but in all lowliness of mind, walk in the light as God is light; then you will be continually cleansed from all sin, having fellowship with the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and all these who call upon God out of a pure heart. O how I do praise God for a pure heart, and a heart full of pure love, glory to Jesus! O how thankful I am that I am saved from all sin. Bless the Lord! Amen and amen with all my soul to all the will of God.

We had a grand victory at Altamont Kan. Labette Co. God was with us in mighty healing and saving power. Prejudice and opposition was very strong, but God moved upon their hearts, and wakened them to see their condition before God, and and that they were fighting God. Some dear souls stepped into the fountain of cleansing and were made whiter than snow: while others hardened there hearts, stiffened their necks, resisted the truth, and twisted it to their own destruction, counting themselves unworthy of eternal life; still professing to be Christians while poor blind sinners on the road to hell. Several cases of healing occurred, one sister was healed of Paralysis. She had not walked for four years, was healed instantly by the power of Jesus. Her left side was entirely paralyzed, she had no use of her entire left side when she was healed, she arose and walked. Took the fan in her left hand, and fanned herself; she dresses herself, washes, her own dishes, walks all around in the house, and is getting stronger every day. To God be all the glory. Hallelujah to our God! Amen and amen! Your saved brother.

Dear Brethren: — I do praise my blessed Master for this mornings blessings. The

Holy Ghost fire just at this moment is burning on the altar of my heart. By the assistance of the Lord, we held a Grove meeting in Lexington Co. S. C., commencing the 28, of June and continuing until July the 2nd. The brethren who were to help me, failed to get there; some through illness of family, and others by not having sufficient means to reach us; but I believe all prayed for our success, and Jesus heard all our prayers. It truly was the hardest fight I had ever experienced in all my life; but Jesus had it done just as it was, to show the community what work He could do through one of His servants.

We commenced last Thursday in a threatening shower of rain; but about 11 a. m. all passed away and a clear sky appeared. We have had no rain since, and as we began with but a small number of hearers, the congregation continued to increase, and on Saturday and Sunday the people for ten miles around, both white and colored, men, women and children assembled themselves together; and as the Gospel was preached, they began to see their condition. During the sermon a methodist preacher became convicted, and acknowledged the truth.

Sunday morning the place was crowded with people, some of whom brought their Bibles and followed the Scripture as I read Matt. 23 chapter and preached from the same. Thirteen souls were saved during the meeting. Your brother saved and sanctified.

J. B. Walker.

—:o:—

To ALL THE SAINTS SCATTERED ABROAD GREETING: — After the Bangor Camp Meeting we went to Pleasant Grove, a place about four miles west of Pitt, O., where we opened fire on the enemy’s ranks in the name of King Jesus, on the evening of June 23. We found one or two souls at that place who thought they were saved; but the meeting had not continued long until they found a deficiency in themselves. We pointed them to the blessed Son of God, and assured them that they could find in Him an all sufficient fountain that never fails to supply all our needs.

June 26, we were joined by our dear Bro. W. J. Evans, who had come from Bangor by way of Payne, O., where he tarried over the Lord’s day. We all remained at Pleasant Grove until June 30. Bro. Evans then went to Upper Sandusky, O., where he held meeting over the following Sabbath thence to Lodi, O., At this time also Bro. A. J. Kilpatrick went to New Washington, O., and begun a meeting near that place July 1. The other remained at Pleasant Grove, and continued the meeting until July 2, and then proceeded to New Washington, where we held meeting over the fourth. Meetings were held all day on the first and fourth, in a pleasant grove a few miles from town. Upon the last named day we came in contact with some of Baal’s priests of the U. B. and Winebrennarian sects. In the afternoon it rained hail on babylon. Each stone about the weight of a talent. — Rev. 16:21. This stirred the sect element in one of the U. B. preachers so much that he could not remain on the ground until the meeting closed; but stood up and interrupted the speaker, and endeavored to excuse himself and then look his departure. Before he finished excusing himself, he began foaming out his shame, and letting his sect colors shine so much that his main reason for leaving was on account of the pure Word of God that was poured out upon him. He left saying: “The come outers had caused him more trouble than any other class of people.”

This we do not doubt; although we do not lake upon us the name “come-outers” yet we know that those so called, who have full salvation which delivers them from sectism as well as other evils, can not be caged without losing salvation. Hence cause sect builders much more trouble than any who have not attained thereunto.

In spite of all opposition God brought us off more than conquerors; and we feel led to say that in both the above named meetings good seed has been sown, which the devil shall never root up.

During the Pleasant Grove meeting three souls were fully established in the sanctifying grace of God; two were buried with the Lord in baptism; and others were convinced of the truth. May God bless the little Church at that place and add others to it, is our prayer.

At New Washington one soul was converted to God, and others greatly strengthened. From there we took train and came to Payne, Ohio. where we are now taking a short rest. Your Bro’s in Christ.

Cedar Vale Kan.,

Dear Brother Warner and Co: — May God wonderfully bless you out of His rich treasures and keep you to accomplish a glorious work in spreading the glorious evening light. I am truly glad you came through Kan. I have been made strong by being with you. God has used me wonderfully to His glory, and the salvation of sinners more then I ever expected. Glory to His holy name! The beast is raging here; an old M. E. man got fearful mad and threatened to knock me down, but I held on to God, stood for Christ’s sake. Nothing but the power of God could enable me to endure what I have since I saw you, both from crooked ones, and sinners, especially sect people. But I will stand in the faith if it takes my life. Praise God! I do love the cause of God better than any thing else. How wonderful God has answered my prayers. It looks sometimes like some of us would be slain; but glory to God, it don’t move us. I consecrated to His service and if He can use me best that way; Amen! There are some who are willing to endure, but so many see the lion by the way and get afraid. I am pressing the battle to the gate in the name of King Jesus mid terrible opposition to the truth. I held meeting three miles north of town where they rejected the truth utterly. God put it on me to warn them, I told them His judgments would come upon them. A few weeks after a hail storm came through the district and smote the corn into the ground, destroyed the fruit and knocked out many window lights. It looks very much like a judgment. We are expecting Bro. Haner this week. We intend to open on the enemy full blast with hail fire and blood. Hallelujah! Pray for us that we do work in the name of Jesus.

A SINLESS PERFECTION.

—:o:—

MANY of the common professors of to day are saying: “We are saved in Christ yet we can not help sinning every day.” And how they plead for it; proving that they do not know Christ, or His holy power, or for what He was made manifest. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested that He might destroy the works of the devil, (which works are sin.) — John 3:8. And ye know that He was I manifested to take away our sins, and in Him (in Christ ) is no sin. — John 3:5.

Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His. — Rom. 8:9. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth; (not part sin and part truth.) — John 16:13. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch can not bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. — John 15:4. For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. — Eph. 5:30. How can this thing be; we being in Christ and He in us, and commit sin? for in Him is no sin. Now while we are in Christ, or in the body, which is His Church, we can not sin; every sin a man doeth is without the body. — 1 Cor. 6:18. Many are pleading the cause of infirmity of the flesh. But Paul in writing to the Galatian brethren, tells them in the 5:24, verse that they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. And there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit: — Rom. — 8:1.

And also concerning temptations. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God can not be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin; and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. — James 1:13—15.

Now know dear ones, when any one has been overtaken in temptation, that they have been drawn away from Christ; for God has promised not to suffer you to be tempted above that you are able to bear; that is, as long as you are in Christ.

O, I do praise God for such a wonderful salvation! man without Christ can not live it, but with God all things are possible. It is painful sometimes to see and hear how the worldly minded babylonians do limit the power of Christ and His holy blood. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one I with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. — 1 John 1:7. And in the 9, verse He says: “And cleanses us from all unrighteousness.”

Glory to Jesus for such a salvation! Your Bro. saved and sanctified by the precious blood of Christ.

HEAVEN.

How charming is that world; Heaven, where no fear will ever fall, where no groan be heard; no sorrow, no heart ache felt; no sin will mar the perfect joy, no deaths no funeral sermons heard. Oh weary heart there is rest for you! Oh burdened heart there is full pardon and holiness for you. Do sickness and pain make a life a burden to you? Sickness and pain never enters there. Do you wish perfect holiness and bliss, you will find them there. Blessed Jesus in Thy name, relying on Thy merits, I humbly hope for Heaven; Thy blood shall be my eternal possession. Redeemed, purified, saved, I will there praise thee for ever.

There is a country pure and light,
Where pleasures never die;
A region of unclouded light,
Beyond the starry sky;
Its skies are not like earthy skies,
Now clear, then spread with gloom,
The people of that clime mere die;
In endless life they bloom.

All those who reach that land of rest,
Shall he from sorrows freed;
They will lean upon the Savior’s breast,
On living parties feed:
Oh when shall I from time remove,
When reach that land so fair?
When will the golden chariot come
To take me over there?

“BE YE THEREFORE PERFECT EVEN AS

YOUR FATHER WHICH IS IN HEAVEN IS PERFECT.”

—:o:—

FROM the time of our being born again, the work of sanctification begins. We are enabled “by the Spirit to mortify the deeds of the body,” of our evil nature; and as we are more dead to sin, we are more and more alive to God. We go on “from conquering to conquer,” careful to abstain from all appearance of evil. — 1 Thess. 5:22. We walk in the light as He is in the light — 1 John 1:7. Taking up our cross daily and following Him with selfdenial of every pleasure that does not lead us to God. Matt. 16:26. It is thus that we go on to perfection enjoined by the inspired Apostle, Heb. 6:1. And after ye suffer awhile, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 1 Pet. 15:10. Here we die to sin and receive a full salvation from all sin, from pride, sell-will, anger, doubts, fretting, impatience and all the works of flesh, or carnal mind. This suffering is intense in some instances, which is the crucifying of the old man, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth (from now on) we should not serve sin. — Rom. 6:6. It is a solemn fact from observation that many claiming to be holiness people have not suffered this “little while.”

But what is meant by perfection? It means perfect love. The love of God excluding sin; love filling the heart, taking up the whole capacity of the soul; love rejoicing evermore, praying without ceasing, in every thing giving thanks. — 1 Thess. 5:16-18. The Savior said: “To love the Lord thy God with all thy soul, mind and strength.” It is the image of God stamped upon the heart. Putting on the new man, which is created after God in righteousness and true holiness. — Eph. 4:24. Col. 3:10. Plainly referring lo Gen. 1:27. “So God created man in His own image.” It consists in all heavenly affections and tempers united in one.

By sin the moral image of God is destroyed and we never can recover it until we are created anew in Christ Jesus. This is perfection; and makes us accepted in the Beloved. Now this holiness (perfected) is not restored in us till we are renewed in His image. Paul gives perfection in another view: “If ye walk in the Spirit, ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” The fruits are love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, (or fidelity, correctly) meekness, temperance &c. — Gal. 5:16, 22, 23. Again, let this mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus. — Phil. 2:5. Although this refers more directly to the humility of our Lord, yet it may be taken in a far more extensive sense, so as to include the whole disposition of His mind, affections and tempers, both toward God and man. It is certain that as there was no evil affection in Him, so no good temper was wanting. “Whatsoever things are holy, whatsoever are lovely,” are all included in “the mind that was in Christ Jesus.” Peter expresses it still differently, although the same in purport: “As He that hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation.” — 1 Pet. 1:15. Perfection then, is universal holiness; inward and outward; holiness of life arising from holiness of heart. If sanctfication be shown any stronger it certainly is in the following; And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit, soul and body be preserved blameless &c.” — 1 Thess. 5:23. The new translation is, And may your spirit and soul and body be preserved without blame at the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ. We cannot show this wonderful salvation in a clearer view than by Paul’s own language to the Romans: I beseech you, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. — Rom. 12:1. We have sacrificed all of our interests in this life, pertaining to self, or the world, or to God, and become “dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God.” Peter says: Ye are a holy priesthood to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. — 1 Peter 2:5. What is the sacrifice we offer, seeing the Jewish law is at an end? Offer our bodies a living sacrifice; and Paul says, It is accepted of God. Glory to God for ever! So we see the word of God teaches two works of grace, or of God. Therefore being justified by faith we have peace with God through Jesus Christ our Lord, by whom (by Jesus Christ, the same by whom we are justified) also (which means adding too) we have access by faith (the same condition) into this grace wherein we stand and rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. — Rom. 5:1, 2. By grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. — Eph. 2:8. So this grace that saves is through faith, and this salvation means sanctification. Because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth. — 2 Thess. 2:13. Oh! some say we will not be saved till we die. Poor deluded creatures, let God’s Word settle it: For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish, foolishness, but unto us which are saved, (not, will be) it is the power of God. — 1 Cor. 1 18. By which also ye are saved (present tense.) — 15:2. Who hath saved us, and called us with a holy calling (past tense, already saved.) — 2 Tim. 1:9. So we can decide readily that we do not have to wait till death to be saved. Glory to Jesus!

Salvation consists in justification by faith and sanctification by faith. By justification we are saved from the guilt of sin, and restored to the favor of God; by sanctification we are saved from the inborn and root of sin, (carnal mind or body of sin) and restored to the image of God, and filled with the pure love of God. It is a wonderful instantaneous work of grace experienced in our being; through the mercy of God we are now in possession of this grace. Having made known unto us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Himself: in whom also we have obtained an inheritance. — Eph. 1:9, 11. What is His will? For this is the will of God even your sanctification. — 1 Thess. 4:3. That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs and of the same body, and partakers of the same promise in Christ by the Gospel. — Eph. 3:6. What is the promise to the Gentiles? That they should receive forgiveness of sins, and an inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in Christ. — Acts 26:18. Sanctification is the act of God’s grace purifying the heart from sin and the world, and exalting it to a supreme love to God. Peter says, He put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. — Acts 15:9. That they might obtain the salvation in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. — 2 Tim. 2:10. For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one: much more they which receive abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness, shall reign in life by one Christ Jesus. — Rom. 5:17. And raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. — Eph. 2:6.

Dear Brethren: — I just Praise the Lord for complete victory in my soul just now. O it is so sweet to have the love of God in our hearts all the time. Glory be to Jesus! I feel and realize that I am a true child of God. The Lord has done a wonderful work for me. I just thank and praise His Holy Name for saving my soul when I came and gave myself up unto Him. O praise the Lord, for complete salvation that can save us to the uttermost, and keep us from all sin, pure, and holy, subject to our blessed Master’s will. O praise the Lord for this glorious evening light, that is shining forth in this Land. I am so glad that I ever was permitted to hear the glorious Gospel preached in its purity. I just praise God for the holy Church He has planted here; we have good meetings, for God has said, where two or three meet together in my name there I will be in the midst, I just praise the Lord that we have a Savior to go to in time of need, and that we can bear all our trials with joy for His sake. O I do love to meet with God’s people and sing praises unto the Most High God, the Rock of our Salvation.

Dear Brethren: — I want to tell you that I am sweetly saved this evening. O praise God for salvation that saves me from all sin. I have been sorely tried, but thank God, I find His grace sufficient for me. Praise our God! In all things we are more than conquerer through Him who loved us. I started out in this good work about five months ago, and feel stronger in His love to day than when I first started. I was baptized the 30th of June and the Lord wonderfully blessed me in receiving the ordinance of baptism. I have come out on the straight line of holiness and intend to spend my days in that way. I am thirteen years old and I feel happy that I have started so young. Pray for me that I may be faithful and meet you all in Heaven. Your sister saved.

OBITUARY.

-:o:-

At his son William’s, in Armstrong Co. Pa., our dear Father Jacob Shelly departed this life, Jan. 21, ’88. Aged 77 yrs. 6 mo. and 5 days. At the age of twenty, Father gave his heart to the Lord, and from that time forth his life was devoted to the service of God. He enjoyed good health all through life; the evening of his death ate a hearty supper, and was well as usual, calling the family together for prayer, as had been his custom for 57 years. His business never hurried him enough to cause him to neglect this one great duty of paying homage to the Giver of all good perfect gifts. At 9 p. m. he retired, and at 10 was unable to lie any longer, and arose suffering severely from heart disease, and at 11, like a shock of corn fully ripe for the Masters use, he went home to live with Jesus.

On Oct. 20, 1832 he was united in marriage with Eva Gruber, she having gone home forty years ago. In 1651 he was again married to Mary Haine, she haring crossed over the River about four years before he died. Both our mothers were followers of Jesus. Truly we have great reason to thank God for praying parents, as they early taught us to believe on the Lord, and watch and pray. God grant us all a glorious reunion in Heaven, is my prayer. Amen!

The gentle voice of Jesus
Has called our father home,
To live with Him in Heaven,
Around our Father’s throne.

Thy many years of toiling
Many battles fought and won,
Many conflicts many trials,
And all thy cares are done.

Father you have gone and left us
To tarry here a little while;
But we know that we shall meet thee,
For we have our Father’s smile.

Sweetly rest dear father, mother,
Now your work on earth is done;
You fought the fight till life is finished,
Hence you’ll wear the starry crown.

Dysart, Ia.,

Dearly Beloved Saints: — I do praise God for the joy in my soul, that I am fully His and He is mine. It seems sometimes that I cannot thank Him enough for showing me this blessed way of holiness, in which we have the victory over sin and the devil; yes a complete victory over all this sin-cursed world. O, praise the Lord for ever more! We are told on every hand that it is impossible to live without sinning. Truly this is a way that the world knoweth not, neither can it be known to those who are yet possessors of their old carnal nature, which is the cause of their sin. O, pray God to lead deluded and blinded christians out of darkness into this marvelous light. Christ did not come into the world to only deliver us from past unrighteousness, else His work were unfinished; but He also gave up His life that we, through His blood, might have the cause of sin removed, i. e. be crucified with Him. Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. Rom. 6:6. When we become nothing in this world and give our life to the cause of Christ, we are then as a good tree which cannot bring forth evil fruit. Praise the Lord! I do rejoice that I can say that my life is hid in Christ, and by His grace I will follow Him, though all men should forsake me. The foe is in force on all sides, but if we meet him armed with the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, he must fall. Having given ourselves wholly to the service of God, let us be bold in the upholding of Christ every where, doing all to the glory of God. Amen!

I thank God that I am saved, sanctified and kept by His power. I have trials sometimes, but by the help of God I can surmount them all. Dear saints, pray for me that I may ever be kept faithful in the cause of Christ. God bless you all and ever keep you instrumental in His hands, is my prayer. Your brother in the conflict for King Immanuel.

Dear Saints Greeting: — “I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.

He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established all my going.” Glory to God! “And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praises unto our God. Many are thy wonderful works oh Lord my God, which are to upward.

They can not be reckoned up in order unto thee; if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered. Sacrifice and offering thou did’st not desire; mine ears hast thou opened.” Yes and my eyes also. Glory to God for ever! I never shall be able in this life to praise God enough for giving me a real Bible experience; such an experience, that all the powers of darkness are unable to over throw my faith in God and His Word.

I praise God for the trials that I have, for He says: “He will have a tried people.” I know He is able to work all things together for my good, if I am only obedient. I am perfectly resigned to the will of my God in all things; believing that He hath all power and all wisdom, and knoweth better than I do, what is for my eternal welfare. Dear ones it we wish to get the glory in our souls, and desire to keep it there, we must bring all the tithes into the store house; that is put all on the altar, and never take back any thing. We must walk in all the light, and never knowingly practice or countenance any thing God’s Word condemns. Praise God! I can say to His glory, that I am saved to the uttermost, and kept by His mighty power. I am willing to bear the shame and reproach that lingers around those who walk in the narrow way. Glory to God! I am satisfied with the way He is leading me. I have that sweet peace in my soul that flows like a river; and I have no desire for the friendship of the world, but truly long to be always found doing the will of my Master; then I shall know that the Lord is my friend, and one that sticketh closer than a brother. May God bless all those who are truly striving to do His whole will.

Dear Brethren: — My testimony is to day, that I am saved and kept by the mighty power of God, trusting my blessed Savior, looking unto Him from whom all my help comes. Blessed be His holy name for ever! I know my crown is sure, if I serve my blessed Father in the right way. By God’s grace assisting, I will follow my dear Savior in spite of the devil. Dear Saints: — Grace, mercy and peace be multiplied unto you, through Jesus Christ our Lord. This evening finds me saved, sanctified and kept by the mighty power of God, ready to be revealed in the last time. Praise His holy name for ever and ever, for this blessed evening light, that drives away sectish darkness and babel confusion! Praise God for a salvation that saves us from all sin! As I read the TRUMPET and hear of so many being saved and healed, it fills my soul with praise to our God. I thank God that He ever called me out of babel darkness into this blessed evening light; and I have taken the Lord as my physician; God called me to this faith in Him, before He could cleanse me and give me His Holy Spirit. When I made the resolve to take Christ as my physician, then He owned and blessed me filling me with His love. O, praise God for a salvation that saves to the utter most all who come to Him in His appointed way! Praise God, who giveth us the victory through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen!

Your Bro. saved, sanctified and under the blood.

Dear Brethren — I am so glad to say this morning that I am still saved and trusting in God. I praise Him for the sweet peace and rest I have in my soul, and for the wonderful love He bestows upon me. The dear Lord saw fit to bring me down to a sick bed, which was all to His own glory. Then I was led of the Lord to send to Bro. warner for an anointed handkerchief; this came and when I applied it the power came down in my soul mightily causing me to shout aloud; the loved ones around me thought I was going crazy, but I knew the dear Lord healed me; and as long as He permits breath to remain in this temple, I shall tell it to the world what the Lord has done for me.

“For we’ve left the winderness,
And have entered holiness
Through the blood of God’s beloved Son.”

The TRUMPET has been a very welcome visitor to me, and has given me so much light; it is such a pleasure to read the testimonies of the saints; I can not do without it, as I have no chance to meet with the saints of God. Oh, how the fire burns in my soul, when I hear of so many being saved and brought into the fold of Christ. Dear saints pray for me that I may ever be found low and humble at the Savior’s feet. Please pray for my companion. Your sister saved and tried.

Dear Saints of the Most High King of Kings and Lord of Lords: — May the Holy Spirit ever guide you into all truth. I am the way, the truth’ and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. St. John 14:6. God has only one way; men have many babylonish ways that will not stand acquitted in the day of judgment, because they have not the truth of God in them, and they have not a living faith that works by love and purifies the heart with, perfect, burning, love which penetrates soul, body, and spirit. I can say I have the mind of Christ; this I never could say before; How I am one with Christ, St. John 17:11, 17, 19, 21, 22, 23. Without Him, I can do nothing; in Him, I have righteousness and strength. Isa. 45:24.

The Trumpet has been a great help to me; I have received several and would like to get them regularly. I love to read them, for they are the best papers I have ever read; all Bible truth and standing alone on the Eternal Rock of ages. I am hungering to hear the straight Word preached, and to see perishing souls saved. Can some one come this Summer? Your sister in the Lord, sanctified through the Blood and Spirit.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — God wants me to testify for His glory. This morning finds me healed and well. Praise the Lord! I am saved from all sin, sectism, tea, coffee and tobacco. Glory to Jesus who keeps us by His mighty power; and I am walking in this blessed evening light.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — The Lord bless you all with the fulness of God. I am led to write my testimony to the glory of God. I praise the Lord for what He has done for me. Glory to God for a salvation that saves from all sin. I was afflicted seven years with diseases the doctor could not cure. The Lord sent Bro W. N. Smith here to preach the straight Word, which was just what I wanted. The Lord gave me light, so I had Bro. Smith lay hands on me, and I was healed. That was two years ago last March, and I am well. Hallelujah to God! I am saved from all sects and tea and coffee. God alone the change hath wrought. I belonged to the sect twenty years and I know just what they are. I am saved, sanctified, healed and kept by the mighty power of God.

Dear readers, if any of you are sick, go to the Lord. I am all the Lord’s, and I have forsaken all for Him. Your sister under the blood.

Dear Brethren: — May the Lord bless you in abundance and may He keep you filled with the Spirit of God. Amen!

My testimony is, I am saved by the precious blood of Jesus, and I have been tried as by fire; but glory to Jesus, He has given me overcoming grace to stand the fiery darts of the wicked one. Oh praise Jesus for the fire of God that is burning in my soul just now. Hallelujah to God for ever! Your Bro. saved to the uttermost.

Dear Saints: — I feel led of the Spirit to write my testimony. I just praise the Lord for full and free salvation that saves to the uttermost. He has purified me soul and body. Praise his holy name! I know that I am a child of God; the Spirit itself beareth witness with our Spirit, that we are the children of God. — Rom. 8:16. In March last I was saved and sanctified wholly through the light that was brought to Wayland, Neb. by Bro. Warner and band. I praise the Lord for ever sending him there. I am walking by faith, simply trusting in Jesus at all times. Oh how plain is this grand and glorious evening light. Hallelujah to God the Father for ever! O how corrupt the sects have become at this place. The devil that old serpent the dragon rules supremely over them. An M. E. hireling on last Sabbath said: “Our money and our Church will evangelize this world.” O poor deluded soul! His money and his sect will take as many souls to hell as most any other class of people in existence. Well, praise the Lord! I am saved and sanctified wholly; I am all on the altar. O hallelujah to God! How can poor souls reject the Word of God when it is taught to them so plain. The M. E. and Friends say I am nothing but a crank. O hallelujah to God for ever! In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. — 1 These. 5:18. Your Bro. ready to be revealed in the last day.

Dear Brethren: — I feel to praise God for ever and ever that I ever received a GOSPEL TRUMPET; for through it I found out where to go to meet the true saints of God. And I praise God that the first meeting I attended with the saints I was led out in this glorious evening light. Glory to Jesus for ever! Now you see I have a right to say the TRUMPET is a glorious paper for me, and I pray God to bless the one abundantly who sent it to me. Your Bro. saved and kept by the power of God.

Dear Brethren: — I do praise God for what He has done for me; although for the few months past He has led me through the deep waters of affliction. Glory to Jesus, He has said His grace should be sufficient.

Within five weeks the Lord saw fit to take a loved companion, a kind father, a sister and a brother-in-law; but amidst it all I can say, thy will O God be done; for I know they are among the blood-washed throng on the other shore. God has a few little one’s here who are still standing firm for Him. O I do praise His name for the way He keeps me above the cares and troubles of this life, and I am determined to live for Jesus each day of my life; ever keep on the whole armor, that I may be able to battle for my blessed Savior who has done so much for me. From your sister saved by the blood of Jesus.

Dear Saints: — I am glad that I can say I am still walking in all the light I have. I thank God that I am saved and sanctified through the blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. O praise the Lord for granting me that glorious privilege. I am investigating His holy Word and growing stronger all the time. My companion is also greatly strengthened by reading and studying the holy Word. The glorious work is progressing here. Praise the Lord for the evening light! It is having its desired effect. We are having some glorious prayer meetings, and praise the Lord, all come out boldly for Christ. We meet every Sabbath and give our time wholly to the Lord, and I feel that He blesses every one that comes to Him with an honest heart, trusting Him for all things. Glory to Jesus, there has been one converted, and others, I think, under conviction. May God help them to see where they stand, that they may fall in with the overtures of mercy and be saved. Pray earnestly for all who are seeking the Savior. I desire the prayers of the saints that I may ever be found at my post. Your brother and sister saved by the blood of Christ.

Dear Brethren: — I am saved, sanctified and kept by the power of God every day from committing sin, by putting my whole trust in the Lord. I moved here last April from Paulding Co. O., and I have not met with any saints in this place yet, and I hope the Lord may, if it is His will, send some Holy Ghost minister in this neighborhood to preach the Word of God to the people, for I think many souls who are now traveling the downward road to hell, could be rescued. My house is open for meeting at any time and for any one whom the Lord has sent out in the field to preach the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The GOSPEL TRUMPET is food, for my soul, and I love to read the testimonies of the dear saints. I am still healed by the power of God.

To the Saints scattered abroad, greeting: — Glory to God and the Lamb for ever for I am hid with Christ in God. I praise God for saving my soul from all sin, and giving me His peace and joy. O brother keep the TRUMPET sounding across this broad land of ours, that others may turn unto the Lord and be saved. There is a mighty work to be done. I do pray God to send more workers in His vineyard, that they may gather together the ripe fruit of harvest.

Brethren, pray for the little Church here that we may be faithful and true to God, doing His whole will. There are many enquiring the way. Oh that we may ever be watchful to lead perishing souls to the Lamb who was slain on Calvary’s mount. There were two buried with Christ in baptism on the ninth. May God bless and keep them sweetly saved through the blood of Jesus. Your Bro. kept by the power of God. Amen!

Dear Brethren: — We are thankful to our Heavenly Father for His great mercy, that He ever gave us of His abiding grace; and our heart is fixed, and we can and do enjoy the testimonies and the teachings of the GOSPEL TRUMPET; we do not wish to do without it, for it is food for our souls.

We are getting old, but we praise God that His mercy, grace and truth is being renewed in us day by day. Our trust is all in Him, for He alone can keep us from falling. Glory to God! we both are founded upon the Rock Christ Jesus our Lord and our Savior. We are completely satisfied in the true Church, and out of all sects. Pray for us all here, that our faith fail not. Your Bro. and sister in Christ our Lord. Amen!

__________

RAISED TO LIFE.

Kansas City, Mo., April 9. — Saturday night the little daughter of A. O. Swift, deputy postmaster at Nebraska City, Neb., was pronounced dead from typhoid pneumonia, and had all the appearances of death. The mother could not be persuaded to leave the little one. About 3 o’clock Sunday morning her screams of joy awoke the whole neighborhood, and several persons entered to find the child sitting on its mother’s lap, refreshed and apparently well. It has improved steadily since then and is doing excellently. The mother says that she was weeping over the inanimate form and was kissing the cold lips in an agony of grief, when suddenly the little one opened its eyes and the next instant threw its arms about her neck.
