The Evening Light.

_____

We are living in the evening
Of the scripture’s grandest days;
The prophetic times are present,
And we hear the shout of praise.

The prophet, in his vision,
Through the corridors of time.
Saw the holy saints returning,
A sight to them sublime.

He said the day was coming,
Which should not be clear nor dark,
But they that worship Jesus,
Would receive no other mark.

The two and forty mouths are ended,
And their testimony done.
Likewise are the days so cloudy:
Now behold the evening sun!

The three days and half are o’er;
The witnesses on their feet.
All the nations quake and tremble,
Since they’ve left the bloody street.

How they testified to victory
In the Savior, heaven’s Son,
Who once died upon Mt. Calvary,
To redeem and make us one.

See the four and twenty elders,
Have low fallen at His feet.
Hear them praise the God of heaven,
Who brings home the wandering sheep.

Come, now shout the Bride and Spirit,
And be clothed in purest white,
As we’re marching back to Zion,
In the blessed evening light.

The marriage of the Lamb’s coming,
And the bride is robed in while.
Glory honor be to Jesus,
For the blessed evening light!

TO HIM THAT OVERCOMETH.

—:o:—

“To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.” — Rev. 3-21.

Here the captain of our salvation, having “led captivity captive” lifts up a stand- and for us to attain unto because He has first led the way. Now we will first examine the overcome and the overcomer.

1st, those who have been overcome. The Word tells us in the the 3rd, chapter of Gen. “That the serpent was more subtile than any beast of the field” and through his subtility he beguiled the woman, telling her that, to disobey was not to die, as God had said, and the woman seeing the fruit was good for food, and to be desired to make one wise, and pleasant to the eye, partook of it and gave it to her husband with her; and he did eat and the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked, that is they saw their moral defilements and sin because stripped of the robe of innocence and purity. In fact they had been deceived and overcome by a liar and a usurper. Now Peter says, “They speak swelling words of vanity and allure through the lusts of the flesh.” While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants, or slaves of corruption; for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage, they are entangled and ensnared by satan and his agents. Jesus says in John 8:34. “Whosoever committeth sin is the servant [slave] of sin.” And tells them “whosoever the Son makes free is free indeed.” Isaiah says; ”O Lord many lords beside Thee have had dominion over us.” The world to-day is enslaved and in bondage; enslaved by the prince of the power of the air, and their mind is darkened and alienated by wicked works; the whole being warped and crooked. The whole man is sick and all the imaginations and do sires, at enmity against God, sending forth shoots in the shape of love of the world; love of mammon; lust of the eye; pride of life; lust, of the flesh; and lusts to whose sceptre they bow. Habits of tobacco, opium, and drunkenness that are the fruit of a nature that is depraved and fallen, and which vanity tries to satisfy its longings at broken cisterns, fountains that can hold no water. Our heavenly Father seeing our helpless and undone condition, devises means to bring back his lost and banished I ones, and deliver them out of the hand of Him that was stronger than we.

2nd, We will examine Jesus as the overcomer. When God saw man overcome, there was a ray of light that shone out of the darkness of that awful hour, in the shape of a promise that the seed of the woman should bruise the serpent’s head. That seed was Christ; seed of promise. The evil seed was the devil’s offspring; a generation of vipers. The good seed are the children of the Kingdom; and the tares the children of the evil one. And there was to be enmity between the two. The good seed was to overcome and bruise the viper-brood under foot. Nor Paul says: “The God of peace shall bruise satan under your feet, shortly.” And so the prophet Micah speaks of the coming of the conqueror; “But thou Bethlehem Ephratab, though thou he little among the thousands of Judah yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.” Which came to pass. “And the angel which appeared unto Joseph, told him of the birth of him, from Mary his espoused wife, telling him to fear not to take her for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost, fulfilling the prophecy which said: Behold a virgin shall be with child and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call His name Emanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” He came: humanity and divinity met together; a son of man, a son of God, He who knew no sin; all the tests that a righteous law could put upon one, were put on Him yet He fulfilled the broken law. Tested; tried, buffeted, spit upon, when reviled he reviled not again; He humbled Himself even unto death; even the death of the cross. He trod the wine-press alone and loved not His life to the death. In all these things He was more than conqueror. He rent the vail of the holiest plage, broke the bars of death. He hath ascended on high he hath led captivity captive and gave gifts unto men; yea and to the rebelious also that they may dwell among us.

And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it. Now is the judgment of this world. Now shall the prince of this world be east out. John 12:31. Now the devil is made manifest and driven our having been overcome. He through His death has destroyed him that had the power of death, that is the devil; and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. He whose right is to redeem now offers deliverar.ee to all captives; the opening of prison to them that are bound; to break every yoke of the devil, and to deliver us out of the hand of all spiritual enemies to serve God without fear. He offers gifts of pardon to sinners that they may dwell among us. He offers to make those who are strong to follow their captain through the same conquest of sin to make them overcomess with Him, and make them kings to rule with a rod of iron all enemies, and bruise satan, under foot. Victory through the blood of the Lamb. God designs we should be overcomers. The world the flesh, the devil conquered; satan under foot, and victory over death. Hallelujah! The condition for enlisting under this glorious overcoming captain, is to surrender all arms of rebellion, and repent of past offences, take sides with Him against all His enemies and follow the Lamb whithersoever He goes. The sinner pardoned and justified by faith is to lake sides with Him against self, and every element and imagination that exalts itself above the knowledge of God. Self as an enemy must be put to death, and the believer must love not his life unto death. To walk with God in a justified slate, is to follow Jesus through the regeneration. The state called the regeneration is to close at entire sanctification, because swallowed up by the greater grace. “Then answered Peter and said unto Him, Behold we have, forsaken all, and followed thee: what shall we have therefore? And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, that ye which have followed me in the regeneration, when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of His glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.” — Matt. 19:27, 28.

Then came to Him the mother of Zebidee’s children with her sons, worshiping Him, and desiring a certain thing of Him. And He said unto her, what wilt thou? She saith unto Him, grant that these, my two sons may sit the one on thy right hand and the other on the left, in thy kingdom. But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto Him, we are able. And He saith unto them, ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; but to sit on my right hand and on my left, is not mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father. This was a cup of bitter suffering, and when He was arrested in the garden when Peter assayed to defend Him, He said: the cup which my Father hath given, shall I not drink it? And every one who sits with Him upon His throne must as an overcomer, must drink with Him the cup of suffering, and taste the wormwood and the gall. Through Gethsemane to Calvary to be crucified with Christ. And after the old man has been but to death, the resurrection glory of a martyr’s grace and crown is given the overcomer, and he is made to reign in this life with one Christ Jesus. Therefore one of the conditions of this over- comer’s grace, is so suffer, for if we suffer with Him we shall also reign with Him. Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptation. And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me. That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Luke 22:28. etc.

Here we see again that the period of Christ’s temtation, and trial as a redeemer covered the period, in which the disciples walked with Him until His death, and at pentecost, they were crowned overcomers. We have an example in Jesus, of one who drank of this cup, and was crowned a victor. “Now about this time Herod stretched forth his hand to vex certain of the Church. And he killed James the Bro. of John with the sword.” How many to-day are consecrated to the chopingblock? God has a remnant who love not their lives to the death, and although they have not had to die literally, yet have proved themselves consecrated to the death and have been lifted up to the plain of a martyrs grace. I quote from Fletcher on perfection. “Many desire to live and reign with Christ, but few choose to suffer and die with Him. However as the way of the cross, leads to heaven, it undoubtedly leads to Christian perfection. To avoid the cross, therefore, to decline drinking the cup of vinegar and gall, which God permits your friends or foes to mix for you is to throw away the aloes which divine wisdom puts to the breast of the mother of harlots to wean you from her and her witchcrafts. It is to refuse the medicine which is kindly prepared to restore you to health and appetite. Our Lord was a perfect Saviour through sufferings, and we may be made perfect christians in the same manner. We may be called to suffer. till all that which we have brought out of spiritual Egypt is consumed in a howling wilderness in a dismal Gethsemane, or on a shameful Calvary. But God says: I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined and try them as gold is tried; they shall call on my name, and I will hear them, I will say: “It is my people.” — Zee. 13:9. They will say: the Lord is my God. Fire is of a purgative nature. It separates the dross from the gold, and the fiercer it is, the more quick and powerful its operation. Therefore if the Lord should suffer the best men in His camp or the stongest men in satan’s army, to cast you into a furnace of fiery temptations, come not out of it till you are called. Let patience have its perfect work.” All God’s saints have passed through and have profited by, many tribulations; and they that could not bear the temptations, became reprobates, and fell away. When your relatives or friends persecute you, “meekly bold the position, standing firm, take it as one of God’s loving chastisements, in order, to make you a partaker of His holiness, say unto Him: I will bear the indignation of the Lord, until He have mercy upon me; He shall bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold His righteousness. Make yourself like Him of n- reputation, and humble yourself even to the death of the cross. Be like David of old who when he was fleeing from his throne, one met him, and cursed him, and threw dust in the air, and reviled him, and when the officers desired to kill him, David showed the mind of Christ by meek ..ly saying: “What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zerariah? so let him curse, because the Lord hath said unto him, curse David, who then shall say wherefore hast thou done it? And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, behold, my son, which came forth of my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more now may this Benjamite do it. Let him alone, and let him curse; for the Lord hath bidden him. It may be that the Lord will look on mine affliction, and that the Lord will requite me good for His cursings this day. And as David and his men went by the way, Shimei went alone on the hill’s side over against him, and as he went, and threw stones and cast dust.” Here we see the mind of Christ when he was reviled, he reviled not again. Oh that God’s saints would learn to be silent in these furnace trials. If the Lord afflicts you with the rod of his wrath, meekly bear it. If like Jeremiah, he leads you into darkness, and not into light, trust Him. If He sets you up for a mark for His arrows, and allows saints and sinners to have a hand in shooting at you, it is because He loves you and would make you an overcomer like Himself; and give you the exalted privilege, of drinking with Him the wormwood and the gall. When you see yourself the offscouring, and refuse in the midst of the people a worm, and no man, like a beast before him. When you are emptied of all your own righteousness, when you are broken and emptied, and crucified, when the last spark of your old self life is gone, then the Lord will become your righteousness. He our shield and buckler, and say to your soul — “I am thy salvation.” Then all controversy will have ceased, and there is a great calm, the Lord having broken you down, now proceeds to build you up. He rejoices over you with singing. He encompasses you with songs of deliverance. He rests in His love, oh the sweetness, the peace soul harmony. He is satisfied with you, and you are abundantly satisfied with Him. “Thou art all fair my love, there is no spot in thee; is the language of your heavenly bridegroom, without fault you stand before the throne, although in this world, because you have followed the Lamb whithersoever He went and loved not your life unto death. The one who has thus been made an overcomer is now qualified to do “terrible things in righteousness” in way of executing judgment, because exalted to sit with Jesus upon His throne. Made an overcomer over self, the flesh and the devil, death and hell. The appearance of such a one before the eyes of this sinful world, is as though an angel of God had suddenly appeared upon the scene. Such a minister is beautifully discribed by the prophet Micah, 5:4. And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the gentiles in the midst of many people as a Lion among the beasts of the forest as a young Lion among the flocks of sheep. Who if he go through both treadeth, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver. Yes the roar of Judith’s Lion strikes terror in the camp. Who is willing to pay the price, for such a wonderful salvation, and buy the pearl of great price? The nations shall see and he confounded at their might, they shall lay their hands upon their mouth; their ears shall be deaf. They shall lick the dust like a serpent, they shall move out of the earth, they shall be afraid of the Lord our God and shall fear because of thee. — Micah, 7:16, 17. May the Lord grant that all His saints may be lifted up to the plane of an overcomers grace, of a martyrs grace. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony. Amen!

WHAT IS THERE  RULE OF SALVATION.

—:o:—

BELOVED of God, it is a pure heart. One that is sincere, and free from all unrighteousness, holy, and free from spot, stain or the least mixture of sin “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” — Matt. 5:8. Unto them that are pure, all things are pure; But unto them that are defiled, and unbelieving, is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. Peter corroborates the same in his second epistle: “Beloved I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds? By way of remembrance. — 2 pet. 3:1. And every man hath this hope in him, purifieth himself even as He is pure — 1 John, 3:3. Who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto Himself a peculiar people zealous of good works. — Titus, 2:15. Let no man despise thy youth. But be thou an example of the believers, in word; in conversation, in charily, in spirit, in faith in purity. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality: and without hypocrisy. — Jas. 3:17. Dear ones all who have not I his experience, had better draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands ye sinners; and purify your hearts ye double- minded. Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift you up. Amen! May God abundantly bless His little ones. with His richest blessings.

Dear Saints: — I want to say to the glory of God that He still saves me by His power. Glory to His holy name! We still keep the glorious truth of the Gospel before the people though with much opposition and persecution, yet the blessed Lord brings us off victorious, and fills our souls with His glory. Hallelujah! A few accepts the truth and enters into life with the holy baptism, while many stand back, convinced of the truth, but are afraid of others and so continue while many more are ready to fight and say all manner of evil of us, but by the grace of God we will continue to do the blessed will of the Lord.

The Lord bless you all is my prayer.

Sweetser Ind.

Dear saints of the most high, who are trusting in a living God, who is our salvation, our all and in all, who has saved us from all sin and sanctifies our nature, and keeps us walking in the light as He is in the light. Praise the Lord, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His son cleanseth us from all sin. Glory to His name for victory in my soul, that over-comes the devil in all of his cunning ways. Glory to God! When I started to live for God, I started with the intention to serve Him all the days of my life: I ever expect to honor my blessed Jesus in doing His will. How sweet it is to know that God saves us from all sin, and that awful destruction that is prepared for the devil and his angels. Oh glory to God for salvation, that delivers our souls from the hands of wicked men and devil’s. Oh how I do praise the Lord for peace and joy that thrills this temple, which is the Lord’s. When the Lord saved my soul, He cleansed the temple, and now He possesses the whole. What an awful death Jesus suffered upon the cross, that we all might have life. Yet some will not yield to His loving call; His tender voice, I heard so sweet, so gently and meek, could any one refuse such a gentle call, when He promises us so great a salvation? praise the Lord for deliverance from all sin. And I do praise the Lord for the blessed evening light. The remnant shall be saved in the evening light, and they shall awake unto the works of the Lord. “Awake thou that sleepeth and arise from the dead and Christ shall give thee light.” — Eph. 14. I do praise the Lord or completeness and redemption, that He has for poor souls that will yield to His call. My testimony is: that I am saved, all at the feet of Jesus, where the blood of Christ flows over my soul. Sanctified wholly unto the Lord, ready to do His will at all times.

NEW CHURCH TRACT.

—:o:—

WE have just printed a new tract by D. S. Warner, of nearly 40 pages the size of the Sabbath tract. It is carefully written, and very forcibly shows, the Divine origin, foundation, head, door, membership, organization, holiness, and unity of the Church, and the basis of unity. It also distinguishes between the True Church, and all sects. Shows the evil of Schisms, and proves the perfection and practicability of the Church, as founded by Christ, and set forth in the New Testament, without any man-made machinery, creeds, systems and manipulations. It refutes the falsehood that we have to be a sect, and nails every thing down to the Word.

Would to God that we could send it free every where. But it costs paper, ink, mailing expense etc. But we put it down just as cheap as we can, to cover expenses, and what we may give to the poor who cannot pay.

THE Lord willing this meeting will begin July 24. A general invitation is given to all the saints of God, and to all that desire to hear the Gospel. I pray the Lord to move dear Bro. Spackey to come, and whoever the Lord leads. The Lord willing I will be there.

CAMP AND GROVE MEETING EAST AND WEST

BRO. Evans has been working up the interest in the East. We were expecting to go to East Pa. and Mass, and greatly desired to do so, to aid in camp and grove meetings. But some time ago, we were impressed that publishing duties required us to return too early in the fall, to justify the expenses of going so far. Following this, came intelligence that the necessary means were doubtful for all the company. Just then came urgent calls from the south west. From all of which we “assuredly gather” that it is the will of God that we go west and south west, instead of east. Well this looks like the scriptural account, “many run to and fro.” Not to to, then fro fro. We were west, then east, and next comes west again. Now while we go fro, who will run to. Bro. Evans sends the following appointments, which we here insert with prayers and supplications to God, that He will furnish the workers. We publish them in the name of Jesus.

AUBURN Schuylkill Co. Pa.

Grove-meeting Ang. 12-18,

DOW Schuylkill Oo. Pa. Grovemeeting Aug 19-25,

EAST Brewster Cape Cod, Mass.

Grove-meeting Aug. 21st to Sept. 5.

The older people in general in Schu. Co. Pa., are German, unable to understand English, for that reason there should by all means some German speaking brethren, go to labor there. Such would be far more useful than ourself. Dear Bro. Wm. Miller thought he and dear Bro. Spackey could go, and Bro. S. Martz thought it probable he also might go. But the time of these meetings came on the same time that their camp meetings come. Namely Jerry City Ohio, and Red Lion Pa. Hence they could not well be spared from home. Now as we look to the Lord, two brethren are brought to our mind who we believe God will imperitively send. That is dear brother Bear and Leininger, of Ind. They can both talk and read German and English, and we believe have some knowledge of that field.

At the close of the Red Lion camp, why not Bro. Palmer, go to the last of these meetings, and then accompany Bro. Evans to Mass.

While means may not be available to carry our whole company to the eastern coast, at least one brother should reinforce brother Evans, and the saints in Mass, and hold some meetings there this season. Amen! Amen!!

Let Bro. Palmer, respond. Amen!

CAMP-MEETING IN NEBRASKA.

WE have a communication from Bro and sister Wm. N. Smith, from their new field in the beautiful prairie, stating that a camp-meeting is desired therein Bro. M. Hoffers ..rove, Polk Co. Which is a few miles from Gresham, on the Chicago and Northwestern R. R.

The 15th of August is selected to begin the meeting. But they are very desirous for ministerial help, and are willing to vary from that time to suit the convenience of any one the Lord may send to their assistance. Sister Mary Cole would be very welcome, or whoever the Lord sends. There should by all means be other help there. Any one led of the Lord to go write at once to Bro. Wm. N. Smith, Stomsburg, Polk Co. Neb. in care of Jas. W. W. Newkirk. The brethren there wish ns to publish an earnest invitation to all the saints. O how our heart burns to be at all these meetings east and west.

Our line of march, from the present appearance, will be as follows.

GROVE MEETING NEAR TEKONSHA MICH, JULY 25-30, ’89.

THIS meeting should have been noticed in last issue, but being absent from home it was forgotten. We invite any other brethren in the ministry that can come and help in this meeting. There is a precious Church there and we expect a heavenly feast. Come all ye saints who can. Brethren will bring us from Ceresco on the Mich. Central, the 25th, and others who may come that way, or to any other point practical. Address C. H. Eldridge, Tekonsha, Calhoun Co., Mich.

It will be convenient to go from that place to Beaver Dam camp-meeting, which will be our next place of labor for the Lord, the Lord willing.

After the Beaver Dam camp-meeting, we go to the Roanoke grove-meeting, above noticed Aug. 9-15.

NEXT to the Deerfield Ind. camp-meeting, Aug. 16-26. See announcement above. We regret very much that we cannot follow this line of meetings on to Sidney, Ohio. But to do so would run the western meetings too late in the season. Dear Bro. Haner and Co. will doubtless be at that meeting, and whoever else the Lord Bends. Our next point will be a

GROVE MEETIEG NEAR ALBANY, ILL.

THIS will be held in father Byers’ grove Whiteside Co., Ill., Aug 27-Sept. 3. Preachers and all saints everywhere are invited. Address Bro. J. W, Byers, Albany, Ill. Next will be a

CAMP MEETING AT HEDRICK, IOWA.

SEPTEMBER 4-10, ’89. This place is in Keokuk Co., and is located on the Central Iowa, Burlington & Western, and the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul R. R’s. I believe the brethren expect to have a tabernacle. We desire ministerial help from abroad very much. Who will come? Cannot Bro. Carey or Bro. Achor, or both meet with us there? All saints, and lovers of the truth are earnestly invited. For any information address Bro. C. Z. Lindley, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. It is expected that rates will be procured on the different R. R’s at that place. Next will be a

CAMP-MEETING AT ST. JAMES, MO.

COMMENCING Sept 13, and continue as long as the Lord wills. The treatment the saints received on the camp several miles from that place two years ago, from a masked mob, has been overruled, to the glory of God, hence there is a great desire for our return. The people will give the Fairground free, which contains a very large seated pavillion, and other buildings convenient for the people to camp. We feel that the moving in the minds of the people there, is of the Lord, and we are led to go. We hope to meet a large concourse of saints at that place. The dear ones we met two years ago from Dent Co. and elsewhere, and others we have never seen in the flesh. Come every body who loves God and His truth, all who know God and all who desire to acquaint yourself with Him. O let this be a glorious feast of heavenly things! We believe it will be a glorious time. Special teaching needed in the camp two years ago, left but little time to bring out the deep things of prophecy and Revelation, which is our special calling to give the people. But with all our teaching and labors, complete salvation is the important object and chief battle cry. We expect the deliverance of a multitude of souls. We earnestly beseech as many as possible of the dear ministerial saints to come up to the help of the Lord in this glorious battle. We are told the pavilion will seat four or five thousand, and there is a great interest in the meeting there.

St. James is located on the Frisco, (St Paul & San Francisco) R. R., one hundred miles west of St. Louis. We hope reduced rates will be secured on that line. For any information desired address Bra J. H. Morrison, St. James, Mo.

ASSEMBLY MEETING IN GRATIOT CO.

THE saints in Gratiot Co. Mich., have decided to have an Assembly meeting in the Hamilton meeting house beginning Aug. 15. Bro’s Palmer and Michels are requested, and whoever the Lord may send. Let there be a general and glorious convocation of saints.

A GROVE MEETING AT NEW HAMPSHIRE, AUGLAIZE CO., OHIO.

Dear Trumpet: — We have a little band of saints here, and we feel it would be to the glory of God to have a grove meeting commencing Sept. 5th, and continue over Sabbath, and longer if the Lord will. We invite all the dear saints to come that can, and we want some ministers, whom the Lord will send, to come and preach the Gospel.

Your Bro. in Christ,

Isaac Carpenter.

Amen! Who can fill this call?

GROVE MEETIMG IN IND.

THERE will be a grove-meeting near Auburn, DeKalb Co., Ind., commencing July 19, to continue 8 days (D. V).

CONSCIENCE CLEARING.

—:o:—

JUSTICE to a dearly cherished one, the clearing of our conscience, and the glory of God, require us to impose upon our readers one more allusion to our great tribulation of over five years ago. Having recently visited the one nearest to us on earth, and while there prayed very earnestly to God to show us all His will concerning us, we were shown some very fine points of duty for which we thank the Lord. What we suffered in the second furnace through which we passed five years ago was described, at that time in these words.

“The pure and sacred reverence in which we had so recently regarded our dear wife, caused these things to fill our soul with horror and amazement.” O my brethren we tasted the real sufferings of Christ. Yea “my heart is sore pained within me and the terrors of death are fallen upon me and horror hath overwhelmed me. And I said: O that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away and be at rest. I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest.” God has bottled the tears of those sleepless nights. O dear Jesus, we have tasted of thy awful suffering, it seems, to the full extent of our ability to endure. Our flesh consumed away upon our body, and life drew nigh to the gates of death. Our hair became well mixed with white. Our prolonged baptism of suffering, rendered us scarcely able to answer correspondence. In the midst of our heart agonies, we wrote a solemn and earnest reproof to our companion.”

While on our recent visit we were shown by the Lord, that dear one could nor read those reproving letters from the standpoint of out intensely awakened, and suffering consciousness of the wrongs reproved: consequently from her standpoint, they must appear unkind, and unjust. So we were led to humble ourself and ask pardon of her for all as they appeared from her standpoint of consideration And so we do in this public manner.

Again the awful crisis of suffering through which we passed, which, all together covered some months, had so shaken this poor frail constitution, that for some time our body and nerves, were much shattered. While in this impaired state, many sectarian sheets, and professed holiness papers were having a vain jubilee over our renoucement from a source that would be likely to hurt the cause of Christ, and imperil immortal souls. And to us it appeared a solemn duty, though a very painful one, to write an article in defence of the cause, which we did in TRUMPET July 15, 1884. After recovering our normal condition of body and perfect tranquility of mind, and gaining complete victory over the adversary, who always takes advantage of any weakness, we had frequent doubts as to the propriety of writing that article, and during our visit it came to us in clear conviction that it was a great mistake. Though God graciously forgave us, knowing that our moives were pure. O how our heart was broken up with painful regret, and we humbly asked the pardon of our companion, and now publicly deplore and confess our mistake. It was presented to our mind as an extreme test of loyalty to God. The question before our mind was this: would I, for the dearest one on earth, allow the cause of God to suffer, and precious souls be staggered? Though painful to our heart, we thought it a duty. But now we see clearly that we should have trusted the cause in the hands of God, and suffered in silence, rather than have the precincts of the domestic circle torn open, and exposed to public gaze. With much painful regret, we deplore and recall the whole article. So far as it is in our power to recall it, and thus publicly ask our erring wife pardon for an erring husbands misguided and pain inflicting zeal.

Ten thousand thanks we pour low at the feet,
Of Love supreme, and wisdom so complete,
That overruled the gates of hell, forsooth,
That conspired against a feeble lover of the truth.
No other furnace could have been so great,
No other threatened with such awful fate,
And yet no ordeal but this whitened flame,
So fully placed us on the overcomers plain.
So the fearful flood of wrath’s enkindled fury,
Our God has turned to songs of endless glory.
Not on that loved, hell’s council chiefly turned,
But ’twas on us, his ire so holy burned.
Nor cared he yet so much to sink our soul,
As hush the thunders of that “flying roll.”
Now while our soul escaped, enjoys a higher summit,
And light and truth are marching on so blessed,
Tis sad that one who proved to us a great profit,
Both in loves fruition, and it’s painful forfeit,
Drinks not with us at the crystal river,
That maketh glad all the city of our God forever.
But O dear brother! blame her not we humbly ask,
Nor on her modest bosom once unkindly cast,
A vindictive thought, or word or frown,
But, as christians let us bow and truly own,
That allwise providence that seems to fall severe
Some souls upon, others to refine more clear.
The ill, ascribe to satan, and ourself include,
The good attribute, with our humble gratitude,
To Him whose wisdom doeth all things well,
And frustrateth all the wicked plots of hell.
Yea, if any hut the devil be to blame,
We freely take on us the shame.
For had not satan found us so recumbent
On her gifts, he might ne’er conceived the foul intent
But he saw us holding childlike to her gown,
And judged her fall from grace would cast us down
Ah satan saw in our inclinic weakness,
A chance to sink our soul in sorrow helpless.
But God in wisdom also viewed the situation,
Saw ho v to make an evil work show forth His great salvation,
So now we ask the readers of this simple story, written, not to chide a living being, but extol the glory
Of grace Divne Yea we ask a solemu pledge of you,
To drop no blame on her we’ve known in love so true.

* * * *

Now doth our faith and love more joyfully ascend,
To God’s pure will, where all our aspirations end.
Cleansed by the blood, and more by fire purified,
Shines His Spirit in our soul a perfect guide.
And all our happy being into holier air,
Like an angel strong, He doth so sweetly bear,
Where earthly passion clouds have no abode.
But mind, and soul, and body, all are swallowed up in God.

Amen!

THE CHILDREN’S PAPER.

—:o:—

WE have just read the second issue of the blessed little paper for the children; and we wish to say that we are highly pleased with it. Truly the Lord has put this work in the right hands. There is a great difference between its tone, and the trashy S. S. sheets in popular circulation. But we regret that so few have sent in orders. Brethren and sisters that is sheer neglect. I know you want the paper, and many of you intend to send for it. For Jesus sake attend to the matter at once. Let some one take hold of the matter in every community, and send as many orders as possible. Send to Bro. C. L. Kaumeyer, Chippawa, Ont.

__________

EFFECTUAL LICENSE TO PREACH.

—:o:—

FOR $300, any person can purchase a more potent license to preach the Gospel than was ever issued in babylon; and yet your preaching will not interfere with farm work or any other business you are engaged in, nor even take a particle of your time. Do you ask how that is? We will tell you. About four years ago there was invented in Chicago a wonderful preaching machine, in the form of a tract and book binder. By means of which one person can firmly bind tracts and books with a fine wire, at the rate of several thousand in a day. It is just the thing we need in this office. We saw it work and know just what it will do. The retail price of the machine is $400; but we can purchase the same direct from the inventor and manufacturer for $300 cash. We have been praying the Lord for the binder, and it seems to us that God will move a few brethren to purchase it, and put it to work, and hold it as their own property, and its preaching will glorify God, spread saving truth, and bring a reward to the owners. One brother, to whom we wrote about the matter, encouraged us by saying he would do his share toward buying it. And now another Bro. sends us $50 toward the steel preacher. Who else wishes to put some means to work for God. Do not fear that too many will respond. In such a case a book binding press is also needed for proper book work; and can be bought, in the same way. They are needed very much. Bro. Kilpatrick, with the aid of other brethren, has compiled the best bible reading book we believe has ever been gotten up, and it should be published as soon as possible; for I know you all want it. But we must have a binder to publish it. This will be a very profit able and interesting book, and will do much good. Also the Lord will greatly enlarge our tract work. Already one thousand of the new tracts have gone out, and the little ones are now making up the second thousand, a tedious and laborious task; but with that machine, which runs by steam, it were but a couple hours pleasant job. Dear brethren you that can please help us to send out the light and truth to this dark world. Amen!

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

—:o:—

Dearly Beloved of God: — I feel led of the Lord to testify through the TRUMPET that I am saved from all sin and sanctified wholly through the gift of the Holy Ghost and am used of God to His glory. Praise His dear name, for the victory I have in my soul.

We have just returned from the Johnstown meeting in Barry Co. Mich., which was one of great victory in the salvation of precious souls. Sinners were converted and some who had wandered away came to Father’s house. O what rejoicing when a sinner turns from the error of his way and accepts the salvation ot Jesus Christ. Praise the Lord! Those who had received the word in their hearts and followed Him in the regeneration, when the Word of God was preached, and with boldness they entered into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He hath consecrated for us through the vail, that is to say, his flesh. And those who had not fulfilled the commandment of baptism, were anxious to do so. The congregation gathered at the stream where eleven were buried with Christ in baptism, and arose to walk in newness of life. May God’s richest blessings rest upon those dear souls and keep them faithful unto the end for Jesus sake. We were glad to meet dear Bro. C. Eldridge, whom the Lord had used at that place to the salvation of many souls.

Your Bro. saved in Jesus.

Yesterday we were out to meeting at Bro Joseph Smiths 3 1/2 miles N. W. of the Junction. God was with us in mighty melting power. O glory to our God for salvation in Jesus Name! Hallelujah! We expect to go to the Tabernacle this afternoon at Geneva Center, 8 miles north west of Bangor. O praise God for His saving and keeping power. Yes, and I praise God for the healing power. I praise God for ever giving us the recipe of the holy anointing oil. I will for the benefit of the dear ones give it to you through the TRUMPET.

Grand Junction Mich.

Dear Brethren: — Our visit to Covert Mich, from July 4th to July 8th was blessed of the Lord. Praise the Lord! for the fruitful meetings; about 4 or 5 consecrations for pardon, and 5 or 6 for entire sanctification.

Some of the number consecrat twice, 1st for pardon, 2nd for perfect holiness. All of the saints, with our souls were greatly encouraged, and learned new lessons.

God help all the saints in that place to keep free from all the antagonistic spirits, and understand that such spirits are on the outside of the Divine Church.

Pray for us brethren, that the Lord may by Grace keep us efficient workers and enable us to preach in love the whole Gospel as it is committed unto us. Amen Yours in grace Divine.

Stromsburg, Neb.

Dearly Beloved Saints of the Most High God: — We are saved and filled with the glory of Jesus. We arrived at Waco Neb. Wednesday, June 26th, had a pleasant and prosperous journey. O how our souls did rejoice in the Lord while on the way. While in the Chicago depot we found one hungry soul, from Lake Co. Ind., and were made to shout the high praises of God. Hallelujah! We found the saints here in a good prosperous condition, as far as we know. Had a glorious meeting on last night in Victor neighborhood. Let all the saints of the Most High pray for us that we be kept in good health of soul and body, and many souls saved and brought into the fulness of the Gospel of Christ, also that we be kept very humble, filled continually with the meek, gentle, quiet Spirit of God. Amen! My address here after will be Stromsburg, Polk Co., Neb.

July 4th 1888.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — God bless you amen. My soul is joyful in the Lord. The transparent glory that pervades my entire being is so sweet, so heavenly. I have victory in Jesus over all the powers of hell. I feel like the Lord wants me to tell of His goodness to my soul, and the success He has given me in His vineyard this spring. In April I started from Kan. for the East in company with Bro. Jeremiah, and other workers. We came by the way of Beaver Dam, Ind. Had a precious time with the saints, and met Bro. Warner and Co. there, and had a glorious greeting. O it is so heavenly to meet God’s pure children. From thence we came to the Trumpet Office and had precious greeting with the dear ones there. We stayed a short time but had such a burden for souls that we felt like we must be in the field. On Sabbath we went o meeting three and one half miles from the Junction, and had a good meeting, which continued a week, and several souls were eclaimed and sanctified wholly. Next we went to Geneva Center, and met with the saints, and God was with us. We then went to Bro. Michels and had a precious time with him and his family, and had three meetings in that part. From there to Covert 16 miles from the Trumpet Office. We met with the saints there and had a glorious time; several souls reclaimed and sanctified, and the Church strengthened. Then went to the Bangor camp-meeting I can say truly it was the best meeting I ever attended. Wave after wave of glory swept the camp from begnining to the end of the meeting. It was Heaven on earth. God presided over the meeting and swayed every thing by His Scepter of love. So you see Presiding Elders, or D. D’s were not needed there to lead the meeting, but Christ was Lord over all; and God added to the Church such as were being saved. Hallelujah! After camp-meeting a dear sister and I came to Hamilton, thirty miles from the Junction, and had a few days meetings. God was with us in power. A few souls renewed their consecration and were sanctified wholly; the church edified and encouraged. The Lord willing we expect to hold meeting in these parts until Beaver Dam camp-meeting; afterwards go west if God leads; but the will of the Lord be done. My permanent P. O. is Windsor Mo. Your sister sanctified and kept by the power of God.

Grand Junction, Mich.

Dearly Beloved Saints: — I feel led by the Spirit of God to testify through the TRUMPET to what the Lord has done for me. He has done a great work for me in re  storing me from my backslidden state, and given me the everlasting joy of salvation in my soul; for which I ever intend to praise and magnify His holy name. Praise the Lord forever! My heart is cleansed from all the foolish things of this world, which I used to take great delight in when I was a sinner. And God has wiped away every thing that is not in accordance with His Word, and has planted in my heart eternal life in Jesus Christ. O what a blessed thing it is to be entirely given up to Jesus and to be led by Him alone. For we know that if Jesus leads us, we shall be led in all the ways of truth, where our pathway is all peace, joy, and happiness in this world, and in the world to come. As I think back when I was a sinner, how miserable I used to be; I just feel like doing all I can for others that are in the sin and wickedness of this world. About seven months ago I got my eyes off of God and wandered away from Him, I found no enjoyment whatever in sin; but all was misery and darkness before me. I could find no rest till I cried to God for mercy; and at the Bangor camp-meeting God for Christ’s sake pardoned all my sins; and then I presented my body a living sacrifice and was sanctified wholly unto the Lord. To-day I stand clear before God; with the determination to serve Him while I remain on this earth. I am ready to do any thing for the Lord that He wants me to do.

Your Bro. sanctified wholly unto the Lord, ready to meet Him at his coming.

Dear Saints: — I do praise God for a full salvation that saves all the time. I praise God for what I have seen and felt in the last two weeks. We had our prayer meetings as usual, and the Lord met with us in power. Praise God forever! One of sister Karnes’ sisters came to visit her, and she was at the prayer meetings, and the Lord saved her soul from that awful hell of torment. She said that she had belonged to the Methodist sect for twenty years and that she had not found salvation in all that time. O praise God he has salvation for all them that will put their trust in Him. It fills my soul with joy to know that the saints here are true. Pray for us that we may stand straight for God. During this meeting three souls were saved. Glory to God forever! We obeyed the Lord in partaking of the ordinances. It is sweet to do the will of God; but to them that do not know Him it is darkness. I praise God that I am free from babylon, out to do the will of God, saved from all sin and kept by the power of God, saved and sanctified wholly.

Denver Colo.

Dear Brethren: — When I was thirteen years of age, my father crossed the plains, from Missouri to Colorado, and settled in the “Sangre DeChristo’’ Mts. From that time, until about two years ago, the life that I lived was dark and sinful. Oh wretched man that I was, but when about twentyone years old, the love of God to sinners, reached my ear, through a faithful witness of Jesus, and I heard the the voice of Jesus calling me to repentance. I yielded to that heavenly call and and though my sins rose up like Mts. before me, soon by grace through faith, I saw the great offering for sin, the precious blood and body of the spotless Son of God. Then the Mts. of sin fled away, the guilt of sin was removed, and I rejoiced in the Lord, and was baptized into the name of God’s holy family. Not long afterward in the midst of my rejoicing, and confidence in the Lord, I was suddenly beset by “a foe in the temple, not subject to God.” From that time I began to earnestly seek the Lord for a deeper, another work of grace in my soul, and for cleansing from all filthiness of the flesh, but the people whom I was among were sectarians, having their life and conversation in the carnal mind, some living in envy and hatred, and covetousness, others smoking and chewing tobacco, and following many other filthy lust’s of the flesh and mind. So I found no help among them; it happened I came to Denver; I cannot tell the division and confusion I found here. After a wretched experience among those who love not the sayings of Jesus, and who deny His ordinances, the Lord rescued me from the clutches of these “unclean and hateful birds. Your Bro. saved in Christ.

OBITUARIES.

>:o:<

BROTHER Charles S. Jones closed his earthly career near Hamilton, Mich., May 22, ’89, aged 26 years and 9 months. He was instantly healed from a very low condition last fall. But he did not carefully heed the Savior’s warning, “lest a worse thing come upon you.” So he was taken ill again with consumption, and the Lord saw fit to take him out of the world. But it is hoped that all was well with his soul, and that he went in peace. He leaves a wife to mourn his departure. Funeral services by the editor.

_____

AFTER an illness of nearly two years, of consumption, sister Mary Reinhart, wife of Burtus Reinhart, departed this life May the 24th, at 8 A. M., aged 18 years, leaving a husband and one child, besides many other sorrowing friends. May God bless and comfort the bereaved husband and save his soul for Jesus’ sake. We had a talk with the dear one three weeks before her death; she said she felt saved. O how glorious it is to know that our loved ones are saved, when the dear Lord takes them from us.

Butler, Iowa.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — I feel it is to the glory of God for me to write my testimony and tell the world what God has done for me. It is wonderful what God can and will do for they who trust Him. I was a sinner and felt in my soul that I was a sinner and felt in my soul that I wanted to be saved but did not know any thing of God’s wonderful works, so I thought I had to join the sect, as they called the church; so I was blind and joined the so-called church, on the 25th of Dec. 1887 but did not have any salvation, but all praises to God, forever. The dear Lord sent sister M. E McCormack in our neigborhood, and she preached the word of God in its purity. Praise the Lord! the straight word showed me that I was nothing but a sinner yet, but I was willing to walk out of that dark place, and get down before God and get saved. And He did save my soul, praise His holy name. I walked out of darkness into light and now I am enjoying free salvation. O the glory that fills my soul just now, as I write it is unspeakable. And full of glory. 2. Cor, 6:17, 18. where-fore come out from among them and be ye separate saith the Lord and touch not the unclean thing, and I will receive you, and will be a father unto you and ye shall be my sons and daughters saith the Lord almighty. — 2 Cor. 4:3, 4. But if our Gospel be hid it is hid to them that are lost, in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the gospel of Christ who is the image of God should shine on them. O dear ones I am so glad the dear Lord did snatch my soul from that dark pit of destruction, and set my feet on the straight and narrow path that leads from earth to glory. Praise God for full salvation that saves to the uttermost I do praise God that I have been made white and tried this winter, and permitted to suffer affliction for Christ’s sake. I took sick on the 11th of Feb.; the first week I was tempted of the devil to have the doctor; and then I would think, and read what God has promised to His children in James 5:14- 16 — “Is any sick among you let him call for the elders of the Church and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord and the prayer of faith shall save the sick and the Lord shall raise him up and if he has committed sins they shall be forgiven him; confess your faults one to another that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” And I knew that God’s Word was true; so I came to God for the healing power. There was no one around me that believed in the healing power of God, hut my companion and I. Praise God! He put it in his heart to take God at His Word. There were some that beleived in holiness but they did not think it was wrong to take medicine. He showed me that if He could save the soul, (which I knew He could) He could heal the body. I knew that if He was not done with me, He would raise me up. While I was sick one of the Winebrenarian sect, had the trustees to send the Dr; he said I had the Typhoid malaria fever; he wanted me to take his medcine, but I told him that God would heal me, and I was saved, so if it was God’s will to take me home I could say amen, and go rejoicing in A Saviour’s love, death was nothing to me. I was in God’s hands and I knew that if God was done with me here He would take me, and if not, He would raise me up. O the glory that filled my soul. I canot express the peace I had in my soul; it flows like a pure chrystal stream, praise the Lord! We felt led of the Holy Spirit to write and have Bro. C. Z. Lindley and sister Lizzie McCormack to come if they felt led of God. They came and found me unable to dress. I was some better of fever, but had rheumatism so that I could not put my foot on the floor. They laid on hands and anointed me with oil in the name of the Lord and I was healed, and arose and walked around the room praising God for his goodness and for His healing power. Then I took the pleurisy in my side, and I think I never suffered such pain in my life in a day and night, but we complied with God’s word; and I was healed of all my diseases. Praise the Lord! O what a glorious thing it is to take God at His Word. The doctor said that I was crazy. But see what God says in 2 Tim 1:7 — “for God hath not given us the spirit of fear but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 8th ver. — “Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but be thou partakers of the afflictions of the Gospel according to the power of God.” I do praise God to-day for health, and for salvation that saves to the uttermost. I do pray God these few words will benefit some one. O do take God at His Word and trust him in all things. We are in perilous times, and the devil is as a roaring lion, walking about seeking whom he may devour. O when I look around and see so many in the dark, who will not take God at His Word and “come out,” I say: “My God, what can we do to rescue them?” The harvest is already white and the laborers are few. What a man soweth that shall he also reap for he that soweth to the flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting and let us not be weary in well doing for in due season we shall reap if we faint not. I ask the prayers of all God’s little ones that I may stand true to God and may ever be found on the rock Christ Jesus where the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Your sister saved and under the blood.

Dear Saints: — I feel it would be to the honor and glory of God that I should testify through the Trumpet. I know that I am saved just now, and the joy and peace which I have in my soul is unspeakable and full of glory. I do praise God that He took my feet from a sandy foundation and placed them on Christ the sure foundation, and in heaven. Christ is enthroned within my heart and reigns supreme over all sin. The Wore of God says these bodies of ours are the temples of the Holy Ghost — and we know where Christ dwells there is no sin. I praise God for the light on the true Church of God

“Free from babel in the Spirit
Free to worship God aright;
Joy and gladness we’re receiving,
O how sweet this ev’ning light!”

I know that God has sanctified my nature and I am walking in the light as it shines. The pathway is growing brighter.

Pray for me that I keep very humble at the feet of Jesus.

Your sister in Christ.

Dear Saints: — I praise God for salvation that sweetly saves my soul, and my freedom from man-made creeds. I belonged to a sect fifteen years before I was converted; then God for Christ sake forgave all my sins; and I lived an up and down life for about ten years. When I heard the pure word of God preached, I accepted the truth, and stepped out in this evening light. For over four years I have been enjoying my freedom in Christ Jesus. We are still having glorious meetings at this place. I ask all the saints of God to pray for me.

Bless the Lord this morning for salvation that saves from all sin. God has called us unto liberty in Christ Jesus our Lord. God calls me to give my experience in regard to His Word. I was led of God to have hands laid on for healing and while in the act of obedience to God, He showed me a black cloud a little way off. The good Lord caused me to look at my foundation; and while looking I saw God’s Word under my feet, and that is my foundation. Bless the Lord for His goodness unto the children of men. Dear ones in the name of Jesus look to your foundation and see that it is founded on the Rock Christ Jesus; and be not moved by the devil or cunning craftiness of men, for if ye be moved it will be blackness and woe to your soul. May God bless you all and keep that which is committed unto Him. But do not think that you will be above temptations, for then we would be above Christ; but God forbid. Pray for me that I may walk in love.

I am saved and sanctified.

Dear Saints in Christ: — I have a desire to speak for Jesus; who gave his life for me, and for all who will come to him. and keep his commandments. O I do thank God for this Holy Ghost fire, that will save to the uttermost. O I do bless God for the blood of the Lamb that saves us from all sin, and cleanses our souls; and sanctifies unto holiness. O to be blessed with the fullness of his love and belong entirely to Jesus; free from all sin and iniquity. O dear saints let us abstain from all sin and ungodliness. O for the sake of Jesus, let us not crucify Him afresh. Let us not grieve that Holy Lamb by sinful lusts and filthiness. God knows every intent of our heart, and every thought of our mind, dear saints, I pray God that we all may continue in His love and be entirely sanctified unto Him, and then we are on a sure foundation. Let us not defile our selves for He says: “If any man defile the temple of God, him will God destroy, for the temple of God is holy which temple ye are. — 1 Cor. 3:17.

O what an ungodly condition men are in when they defile the temple that Jesus has washed and cleansed, and purified with His blood. Those who have a form of Godliness and keep sinning and praying God to forgive them, they defile the temple of God, or it never was the temple of God. And if that is the case, it never will be while they are in that condition, O glory to Jesus, for the Holy Ghost fire that will keep us from all sin; that gives us victory over satan, that keeps us through temptation, and helps us in time of need, and lifts us out of the bonds of satan; it gives joy in sickness and death, and is a sure ticket for eternal glory. Religion that cannot keep us from sin, is utterly useless, and a man that thinks he is a christian, and is yet in his sins, is not a child of God, but is in darkness, and abides in ignorance, and his religion is vain. Such men are to be pitied for they are led by those ungodly blind guides that cannot escape the damnation of hell. O to be a Holy tabernacle, a clean house, a fit place for the indwelling of God and Holy Spirit. To be continually led by his mighty hand. Some of the sects say that the power of healing was only given to the Apostles. When you hear men say that, make up your mind that he never knew the true word of God, and the divine power of Jesus Christ. Glory to Jesus! if He can make us all over again, He can heal our diseases. O let us abide in the love of God, that we may be full of the Holy Ghost power, that cometh from the throne of God. Let us not starve the spirit of God out of our hearts. The Spirit must be fed. If God gives you the spirit of life, you must feed it. Go to Jesus; He will give you the bread of life; He will give you the hidden manna; feed it in secret prayer; in testifying for Jesus. Feed it with faith and love; by keeping the commandments that Jesus gave us. Amen.

We held meeting a few Sabbaths, one soul was saved, and a good many others convicted. O it makes satan howl to hear the true word of God; it cuts to the heart of those that have a form of godliness, and yet live in their sins. The word of God is sharper than any two edged sword, and cuts deep in the heart of hypocrites. I will leave here soon for St. Francis, Kans., where I will preach and teach in all the Holy Ghost power, that God gives me. And from there I will go wherever the Spirit leads me. Dear saints pray for me that I may prosper in the Lord, and have a door of utterance to proclaim the truth.

Your Bro saved in Christ, and kept by His grace. Amen.

Dear Saints of God: — I am saved and under the blood, sanctified wholly to God, and I am kept py the mighty power of God. Praise the Lord for full and free salvation. One year ago last November I was on a bed of affliction for a long time; the doctors did not think that I would ever get well. I believe had it not been for the prayers of God’s people I would have been lost, forever lost. Oh praise the Lord. In January the Lord sent Bro. W. Miller to this place to hold a meeting in the name of Jesus. He sent Bro. Miller and some of the other brethren to see me and tell of this great salvation. I gave my heart to God. I grew better and was soon so I could do my work, but still I was not well. I had to take medicine most all the time. Last November the Lord sanctified my soul, then I was ready to take the Lord for my great physician. I gained strength very rapidly, out was not completely healed till in January, when some of the saints were holding meeting at Bro. Smith’s, I called for the elders to lay on hands in the name of the Lord for entire healing and the work was done. I give God all the glory.

Dear Saints: — This blessed day of rest finds me saved and sanctified, ready to go at Christ’s coming. I praise God for this delightful way of holiness. I know that I am settled on that rock (Christ Jesus) that cannot be shaken. For Jesus said: “on this rock I will build my Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Dear brethren it is my hearts delight to do the will of God. Jesus said: not every one that sayeth Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven. But he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” Now let us examine Fathers will which is left on record for His children. Jesus came into the world to reveal His Father’s will to us. And this is the Father’s will, which He hath sent me, that of all which He hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. — John, 6:31). If any man will do His will, he shall know of the doctrine whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. — John, 7:17. “He that overcometh shall inherit all things and I will be his God and he shall be my son. — Rev. 21:7. Father I will that they also whom Thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which Thou hast given me: for Thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. — John, 17:24. For this is the will of God even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication; That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor.” — Thess. 4:3, 4. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven.” — Matt, 6:10. “Then said I, lo I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me) to do thy will, O God. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all. — Heb. 10:10.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — I am always glad to hear from the children of God. It is a little over two years since I gave my heart to God, and as He says: “come unto me all ye that are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest” I came to Jesus and as soon as I came trusting and believing without being ashamed, to call on Him for help. He took the burden from me. Praise his name! then in time of trouble or sickness there was no fright about dying as before, but always feel safe in Jesus, for “should our earthly house of this tabernacle be dissolved we know we have a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” To those that have already found Jesus, I say: Hold last for he that endureth to the end shall be saved,” and to the sinners, those that do not feel that their sins are forgiven, those that curse and swear: I say “to-day while you hear His voice, harden not your hearts” but come and be saved ere your heart grow cold and hard as stone. God bless the TRUMPET, that through it much good seed may yet be sown that will bring fruit.

Pray for me that I may prove faithful.

Dear Brethren: — I praise God for salvation full and free. I am led of the Spirit of my blessed Saviour to write my testimony. Glory to Jesus forever and ever, for this wonderful salvation that I enjoy day by day. I know I am saved, and Jesus reigns continually in my heart. Hallelujah to our God, for this blessed experience. Praise God oh my soul! Pray for me that I may remain faithful, and at last meet with you all in heaven.

Dear Saints: — I am fully saved in Jesus my loving Saviour. I am given up to do His will in all things, whatever He commands. My will is entirely subdued. I love my Saviour, and I willingly deny myself for Him. He has saved me from the tempter’s fatal power. The Lord is faithful, who will not suffer us to be tempted above that we are able, but will with the temptation also make a way of escape that ye may be able to bear it. They that trust in the Lord, shall be as mount zion which connot be removed, but abideth forever. Who would not trust in the Lord while iniquity is abounding. Saved in Jesus.

Dear Brethren: — I can say with an honest heart that I am saved and redeemed by the blood of my blessed Jesus. My soul is filled with the Spirit of God. I would not exchange the love of God in my heart, for all that the world calls good. I thank God for directing Bro. Grover, to come to Clam Lake, to preach the pure Gospel to us. About 40 souls came out of darkness into light.

We are holding two prayer-meetings at the school-house; one on Tuesday evening, and on the Lords day at 10:30 A. M. We also have splendid meetings at private houses. I thank God for leading mo out of babylon. He showed me how to stand out, free from all sects. I thank God for sweet peace and full salvation, that keeps me every day of my life. I ask the prayers of all the saints, that I may stand free in the Lord.

Dear Brethren: — My testimony is, I am drinking deep at the fountain of God’s eternal love. And am settling deeper down into the rock on which I stand. The holy fire burns on the altar of my heart. And consumes all the dross. Glory to Jesus! How I praise God for this wonderful freedom which I enjoy. I am completely delivered. Every band is severed, and I have glorious victory over the beast and his mark, and over the number of his name. Praise the Lord forever.

Dear Trumpet Readers: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. — St. John 1:1. We are told in another place the Word was made flesh, and in another that it is the power of God unto salvation. So we, as the children of God, are to work earnestly to save all men before our time on earth is brought to a close.

My testimony is: I am saved with an everlasting salvation, sanctified and ready for the coming of our Lord and Saviour.
