ALL THINGS ARE YOURS.

—§o§—

Ope, ope, my soul! around the press
A thousand things divine;
All glory and all holiness
Are waiting to be thine.

Lie open, soul! be swift to catch
Each glory ere it flies:
Life’s hours are charged, to those who
With heavenly messengers, (watch,

Lie open; Love and duly stand,
Thy guardian angels, near,
To lead thee gently by the hand, —
Their words of welcome hear.

Lie open, soul! the beautiful
That all things doth embrace,
Shall every passion sweetly lull
And clothe thee in her grace.

Lie open, soul! the great and wi..e
About thy portal throng
The wealth of souls before thee lies,
Their gifts to thee belong.

Lie open, soul! lo, Jesus waits
To enter thine abode;
Messiah lingers at thy gates, —
Let in the Son of God!

Receive Him, soul! He with Him brings
The blest ones from above,
The heavenly hosts stretch forth their

Lie open, soul! in watchfulness
Each brighter glory win,
The Infinite thy peace shall bless,
And God shall enter in.

O awful joy! O love divine!
O bliss too great, too full!
Earth, man, heaven, angels, all are thine
And thou art God’s, my soul!

SEEK NOT WORLDLY HONOR.

—‡o‡—

DEAR readers let us carefully consider the position of a child of God in regard to success in all true good.

By reading the thoughts suggested by our dear Savior in John 5:44. How can ye believe which seek honor one of another, and not the honor that cometh from God only? We will connect this passage with a lesson found in Isaiah 41:10—18 and especially in the 10 and 13 verses. We shall see clearly portrayed our position with God as one of friendly nearness, intimacy and loving submissive dependence. In the first place God promised strength, help and upholding, by His right hand. Do not fail to notice that expression. Then He illustrates our perfect helplessness by saying: “Fear not thou worm Jacob”, etc., comparing man’s powers, to help himself, to the worm, the most helpless of all creatures. Then He goes on to show how He will make the groveling, slow, helpless and repulsive worm a power; make of man a sh..rp threshing instrument, having teeth &c. Again notice the united position of the worm with its maker, as portrayed in vr. 13: “For I the Lord, thy God, will hold thy right hand”, and at the same thus speaking to us words of encouragement. Now see that the stated position is a peculiar one for a soldier indeed. Not going too FAR, as a captain of a worldly warfare. Not with his arm round me and walking at my side; not carrying me in his arms, as an ambulance needed for the sick: neither driving us before him, but the attitude is one of complete abandonment — if you will — of self, to God. And at the same time the position illustrates a complete engrossment on our part. Standing face to face with our Lord, looking unto Him; being engrossed completely will His will, guided with His eye. Our right hand in His. What could we do in this life without the use of our hand? O beloved, does it not portray our entire dependence on God? Does it not illustrate to us these declarations of holy truth. “It is not by might, or by power, but by my Spirit”, saith the Lord. The battle is the Lord’s ;and after having done all, say: “I am an unprofitable servant &c. Yes here lies our strength and wisdom, to have our will completely swallowed up in the Divine will. And yet we see people who profess to be all given up to God, and say: “My will is the will of my Father,” who are taught both by the Word of Life and by God’s messengers that faith is the measuring line of all God’s gifts, and graces, but who are lacking in faith? Now God’s Son sounded a sure note of warning over 1800 years, ago, “How can ye believe who seek honor one of another.” Now there is evidence to-day of the existing fact, that the same cause of lack of belief, — saving and keeping belief, say nothing of a victorious belief, that overcomes all barriers as it should, — as in that clay called forth the reproof of our blessed Lord, only in increasing ratio. Men seek honor and praise of their teachers, having men’s persons in admiration; others of these they think gifted in this world’s lore. And many, yea thousands in the churches, — so called, — decide every question of right, and wisdom, and holiness, and truth, and worth at the tribunal of “our church,” “our church doctrines,” “our ministers,” “our theological works,” “our church papers,” “our conference,” “our age of progression,” and everything, but seeking God, and seeking wisdom from above. By a close and constant study of His will and pleasure, and a constant intimacy with Him as a bride without care to please any but her husband, “without spot and blameless. 2 Peter 3:14. Making every other intelligence, affection, at traction and friendship bow to the mandate of a conscience void of offence toward God. Thus seeking in all things, God’s will, whether it pleased another on earth or not O Lord, when will men and women learn the greatly needed lesson, that we never walk with God in white, and successfully (but only overcomingly) but constantly victoriously, over all barriers and forces, until God holds our right hand, and we consult His favor, “honor” alone; even to the forsaking of father, mother, children, or lands yea all. “Except a man forsake all that he hath” &c. all these other questions are forever in the back ground, and many of them have no more place; ceasing to say: “What shall we eat and drink, and where withal shall we be clothed? But when God speaks, answering to that voice without hesitating or withholding. And when we understand God’s will on any point of doctrine, to move, speak and live up to all God’s given light, and never be found saying, “My wife or some other friend, does not see this as you or I do. Or on their account I must delay making any decided step in this for a time, and I must be very careful in walking in light given me of God in his Word.” O my brother, sister, did you ever stop to think that that was virtually what you said, or as thus many do, or when they say of a clearly written will of God, “When God shows me by His spirit, makes me feel that this is duty, then I will be obedient.” O beloved, about that time, where was your faith? I fear that some one heard this wail from your lips, “My faith seems so weak.” Or if I only had such faith as Bro. A.”

Lord help us all to live up to all our wondrous privileges.

Your sister in Christ.

IN ADVANCE OF LIGHT.

—§o§—

“Let no man deceive you by any means. For that day shall not come except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed the son of perdition.” A Bro. who had formerly been very strong in the teaching of God’s Word in this evening light, setting forth the Apostolic church in its purity, wrote me recently from Mo. as follows. “A large number of the holiness people here have lost their power and experience of holiness, and are simply making a profession and keeping up a dead form, I have about come to the conclusion the church question is in advance of the light, and that it is best to drop this sect question entirely. Sin is what is wrong with the people, and we want to give a remedy for sin, which is the blood of Jesus Christ. The above is the fulfillment of God’s Word, of what shall be in the last days, just before the coming of the Savior to gather the elect from the four corners ..o the earth, unto himself; and to cast the wicked, and the abominable, and every thing that maketh a lie, down to hell. Those that have been bright shining lights in former days, in the State of Missouri, as well as elsewhere have departed from the faith, once delivered to the saints; go on making a dead profession; a good many of them becoming regular tree toads, affiliating with every thing that comes along, and accepting any, “new light,” that the devil will give them. The reason of all this is because they fail to walk in the light, that God gives them, and obey the commandments in the observance of the ordinances. Beloved it is God’s business to give commandments. It is ours to obey without questioning them. Any new light that does not harmonize with the Word of God, is of the devil, which he is always ready to give if we stop to argue with him. Action is not likely to precede light. Light mast come, in some degree at least, before action can take place. A sinner cannot repent until he has light by the Holy Ghost that he is a sinner and a rebel to God. A Leal heathen never turns from his idols to serve the living God, until he has light and is convinced that he is wrong. The writer of this arcticle did not leave the U. B. sect until he had light that the sects were an abomination in the sight of God, and contrary to the teaching of the Word. When light came with Holy Ghost convictions, then action followed. Therefore action was not in advance of light. The church question certainly then could not have preceded light, but the light preceded the church question by the Holy Ghost, and honest men and women have obeyed the heavenly voice, by coming out of babylon, and recognizing only the Body of Christ as the Church. The devil is and has been a good hand at mixing truth with error in order to deceive. Therefore he hit at the truth, when he said, that “sin was what was wrong with the people, and we want to give a remedy for sin, etc.” The Bible teaches that sin is the transgression of the law. 1 Jno. 3:4. The law (the Word) given through the Apostle Paul is that there be no divisions among you. — 1 Cor. 1:10. divisions in the margin is rendered schisms. Read 12:25. It is also rendered sects in — 11:18, 19. Now we are commanded not to allow divisions among us, and avoid them. — Rom. 15:17. Divisions to the Apostle’s mind, was a sin and indeed it is a sin, for it is transgressing the law; bringing a schism in the body of Christ. Then the sect-sin is one of the sins, that is wrong with the people, and instead of dropping it and saying nothing about it, “Zion’s watchmen should lift their voices like a mighty trumpet, cry aloud and spare not, and declare unto my people their sins. The devil would have us to turn away from the truth, and let the people remain in their blindness; and have the invention of new lies, and this one, “In advance of light,” is given in almost the very last stage of this delusive age, that more souls might be deceived and sent to a burning hell. Beloved instead of looking about for new light, and for crevices, (excuses) to creep out of duty. Let us be, and do as the Psalmst, and Apostles did, joyfully take God’s Word and follow it closely. The Psalmist said: thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. How sweet are thy words unto my taste, yea sweeter then honey to my mouth. Through thy precepts I got, understanding, therefore I hate every false way. — Ps. 119:103, 105. We do not need new light. The Word of God is a light, and if we do not walk up to the light we have, we will be sure to get into darkness, and blind delusions. May the Lord bless the dear saints and keep them unspotted from every thing that is not of God

In the love of Jesus.

BALANCING ACCOUNTS.

—o§o—

DEAR readers, how does your account stand with Jesus? Have you balanced your books lately, to find out whether you are in debt to Him in financial matters? No doubt many would be astonished were they to keep an account of all their financial affairs and at the close of the year balance their accounts and see what a small amount was credited to the Lord. It is very evident that with most people the liabilities would exceed the credit a hundred fold; that is, they would spend a hundred times more for other things than they do for the work of the Lord. The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof.” Then let us render unto God the things that are His. If He was as slack about giving to us, as wo generally are to Him, there would likely be some murmuring and complaining done. He has promised to reward His children for their liberality and to supply all their needs. He loves a cheerful giver, and says; the liberal soul shall be made fat. Have you been feeling lean in your souls in the past.? If so begin to examine your accounts and see if the Lord has had His share, see if you have not been robbing God of what is justly due Him. He not only requires a complete consecration and straight forward life in other matters, but demands a complete consecration of our time and means also, and He has promised that when you do this, He will pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. Some people think that times are so hard that they are not able to give any thing to help spread the Gospel. No wonder you have a hard time of it; because you have not given according as the Lord has prospered you. You had better square up accounts with the Lord and He will increase your financial income, and multiply the blessings of spiritual enjoyment. There are enough professing Christians in the world, that if they were to balance up their account with the Lord, and square up financially according to the word of God, there would be no lack for means to have the Gospel preached in every land. And good holy literature published and sent to every home, to take the place of dime novels and other trashy literature that is flooding the country. There are multitudes of poor people in great distress: and the sick who need caring for and perishing souls on every hand to be rescued. Do you feel that you have done all you could in the past? If not you had better square up your account and have a clear conscience before God, because there is a great responsibility resting upon you; souls are at stake. Let your pure minds be stirred up on this point as well as on other things and see that every thing is in the order of the Lord.

GOD’S WORD ON HEALING.

-:‡||§||‡:-

AS Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up. The first was a figure of the latter. The people had sinned and God sent fiery serpents among them which bit them and many died. They confessed their sins to God and Moses, so God directed Moses to make a serpent of brass and put it upon a pole that all who were bitten might look and live. — Num. 21:5, 9. To all who obeyed, the result was they were forgiven and their bodies healed. The poison was removed and they were made well. Now as Moses lifted up this serpent, even so must the Son of man be lifted up. In — Matt. 1:21. the testimony of the angel was; Thou shalt call His name Jesus; for He shall save His people from their sins. Himself took our infirmities and bare our sicknesses. — Matt. 8:17. Some might ask, did He do it? The Word answers; and Jesus went about all Galilee healing all manner of sickness and disease among the people. — Matt 4:23. Mark. 1; 32. 34. 5:25 43. 7:31. 35. 10:52. Luke — 5:12. 13. Jno. — 5:5-14. 9:6. 7. These are only a few of the many cases on record where Jesus healed the people. He gave His disciples power while with them, to heal the sick and cast out devils. See Matt — 10:1. Mark. 3:15. Luke. — 9:1. 10:1. They obeyed Him. Mark — 6:32. 13. Luke. 30. 17. Some say; yes I believe that Jesus and His apostles did heal, and cast out devils, but that has passed away. Well if it has then Christ’s Words have passed away; for Christ says Heaven and earth shall pass away but my Word shall not pass away. Matt — 24:35. His last commission to His disciples after He was risen from the dead, was to teach all nations. Teaching them to observe (to do,) all things, that He commanded. For how long? I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world Matt, 28:19. 20. And He said unto them. Go ye into all the world, preach the Gospel to every creature. And these signs shall follow them that believe. In my name shall they cast out devils. They shall take up serpents, they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. So after the Lord had spoken He was received up into Heaven. They went forth preaching every where, the Lord working with them with signs following. Mark. — 16:15. 20 Acts — 3:1. 16. 5:15. 16. 14:8, 9, 10. 19:11, 12. 28:1-9. Jesus command is teach all nations to observe all things that He commanded them. He commanded them to heal the sick. The command to us is: Is any sick among you let them call for the elders of the church let them pray ever them anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord and the prayer of faith shall save the sick and the Lord shall raise him up. And if he have committed sins they shall be forgiven him.” James, — 5:14. 15: For Jesus says whether is easier to say, thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, arise and walk.? Matt. — 9:5. The command is ask. And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, He will give it you. Jno. — 16:23. and whatsoever ye shall ask the Father, in my name that will I do. If ye shall ask any thing in my name I will do it. Jno — 14:13. 14. If ye abide in Me and my Words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will and it shall be done unto you. Jno. 15:7. And all things whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer believing ye shall receive. Matt 21:22. Mark. 11:24. Luke. 11:24. Jno. 16. 24. Now dear souls can we claim to be beleivers in the Lord Jesus Christ; when these signs do not follow us. Or can we in the face of God, and before the world claim to be followers of the Lord Jesus Christ; and then when we are sick, lay aside the commands of God and call in earthly help. These things ought not so to be. Dear souls I am speaking from a real experience. I have seen some that claimed to take God for all and in all, and at the same time taking medicines. By so doing they forget the Commands of Jesus God help you dear souls to take Christ at his word. Your Bro. all for Christ and in the faith hallujah.

TRUSTING IN THE LORD.

Denver Colo. March 5, 1890.

Dear Saints: — I am praising God for the freedom and salvation, peace and joy, which I have obtained through believing on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and doing His Commandments. And Jesus answering said, were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? there are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. Luke 17, 17, 18. The Lord has put in my heart for nearly a week to emulate the stranger, by giving glory to God for cleansing me from all sin and to testify through the Trumpet to His healing Power. Two years ago next May, the doctors gave up our little boy to die of Catarrhal Fever. I asked the Lord to heal, and received the answer according to 1 John 5, 15. and he was healed. I took Medicines for Catarrh of the head which is so prevalent in the West, to no avail; until the Lord saved me when I prayed that He would heal, which He did instantaneously. Physicians only relieve it in June 1888. a hard substance began to form on the side of my neck. The doctor call it Bronchele, and other names. I had always dreaded their deformities on the neck, and like job, what I most dreaded, came upon me. One Doctor here removes them for $5. Another eminent M. D. advertised to cure them free of charge, these were great trials, but I had determined to put my whole trust in God which I did and although a barber could with difficulty shave me, the Lord God answered my prayer, an healed me completely. Feb. 21, our little boy was taken violently ill vomiting, feverish, and sore throat; we kneeled by his bedside, and asked our blessed Lord to heal him, and received the answer, so we went to bed and all slept soundly until morning, and all ate breakfast well as usual. Praise God for His promises and fulfilling them.

Your Bother in Christ.

John E Roberts.

FROM CALIFORNIA.

For want of room to insert entire, we glean the following from a letter from sister J. C. B. Clayton.

“I praise my God and His Son that I am quite perceptibly better in body to-day which is one day earlier than the time set for prayers for our healing. But that is just like Father, He says: “Before they call, I will answer; and while they are speaking, I will hear.” Praise belongeth to our God and his Son Jesus Christ. Mr. C. preached at Oak Park last Sunday with power sent down from Heaven. We had a good hearing, and conviction was depicted on many faces. We scattered tracts, etc.

Within the last two weeks I have received $7. toward the tabernacle fund. Two dollars from the same sister in Mich. who has remitted for a friend there twice before. God bless them abundantly. Also the Bro. in Idaho who sent $5.00 again, and who desires our help in spreading this evening light in his locality, but is not able to meet all expenses. Beloved, pray God to speedily open up the way for us to respond to that call. We have now received in, all, $18 on tent, for which we praise God, and continue to hope in the Lord.

May God deliver His children from self constituted teachers, who never arrive at a knowldege of the truth, but cripple and confuse such as drink in their confused error. O these blind leaders of the blind, such papers as the Branch published by two Armstrongs, who are painfully ignorant of the most blessed truth in all saved and sanctified experiences. And such dark sheets as the Gospel Exhortations, Light House, Reproof, Plumbline, etc., etc.

Your grateful loving sister in the Lord.

QUESTIONS ANSWERED.

-:o:-

Dear Trumpet Readers: — Can any of God’s children join themselves to the Patrons of Industry and please God? Bro and sister Colby have joined them. I have come out of all these ungodly things o.. the world. Christ says He will not be found in the secret chambers. I warn all God’s people to keep out of such places.

Your sister saved and sanctified.

Jane A. Todd.

Portland ,Mich.

-:o:-

The sister has pretty well answered the question. But Paul has something directly to say in point of this question.

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: For what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness, and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? Or what part hath he that believeth, with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing, and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Having these promises dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. 2 Cor. 6:14-18, & 7:1.

The promises of God to be a Father unto us, and to cleanse us from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, are conditioned upon a separation from all worldly compacts. This text forbids joining a secret order, or sect of mixed sinners just as directly as if it had been sent down from heaven in answer to the above question.

How foolish it is for any person wishing to be a child of God, to set at naught the positive counsel of God, and yet presume to call God their Father. “Why call me Lord, and do not the things that I command you.”

What does a child of God disobey God’s Word, and yoke themselves up with unbelievers for? O they tell us there is a financial gain in so doing. Suppose there should be a little worldly gain. Does that give you license to sin against the Word of God? What right have you to join yourselves with a lot of sinners, to save a few dimes? “A man’s life doth not consist in the abundance of the things which ho possesseth,” much less the few trilling cents gained by joining yourself to some compact of sinners. God says, no good thing will He withhold from them that love and obey Him. But some act as though their Father was in great poverty, hence His children have to violate some of His Word, or come to want. What a shame and disgrace is cast on the character of God by such conduct. But after all these worldly wheels have ever proved a humbug and a snare to all God’s children, when they have been silly enough to join them. You band yourself like a set of spokes with sinners, the wheel will be sure to stop with you in the mud.

“Having food and raiment, let us therewith be content,” and God is able to feed and clothe His children, without them walking in covenant with the world “Woe unto them that ..o down into Eygpt for help.” Abide in Christ and ye shall not want for any good thing. That is good enough. Tie up with God on these promises, and cut all the devil’s straps that bind you with bundles of tares.

A GOOD WORK.

—:o:—

Brownstown, Ill.

Dear Saints: — May God continue to bless and prosper you in every good work. My mind has been drawn out for means to spread the Gospel of present truth, and a new way has been presented to my mind, by which I may aid in this work, and so preach the Gospel in more ways than one. I propose, like Zaccheus to give half my goods to feed the poor, by giving half my income sending out free literature to the poor, and where it would do the most good. While praying about these things, a systematic and progessive system of gaining the most rapid penmanship, came to me like inspiration; and the plan of teaching is such that it requires but a small amount of time, and each one can practice at his own leisure, and improve odd times, amounting to about 300 hours of rapid pen exercises or about the time Occupied by 3 months school.

The full course is $5.00, one half to be used in sending out printed Gospel for the poor, — free Gospel; the other half to be used as the Lord directs in support of the ministry, etc. So it is all to be used for the work of the ministry. I will begin the course at once, with anyone, wishing to become a rapid writer, and sending me the money, or at least $1.00 of it to begin with. The system of teaching is superior to anything published on the subject of penmanship, and differs from all other systems in many important points, and the training exercises me so simple and plain, that a child 10 years of age can readily follow the modes, and soon be his own teacher, and learn to write fast and plain. My present address is and will be for about a month, Brownsville, Fayette Co., Ill.

J. Cole.

NOTE.

We take pleasure in publishing this, proposition for our dear Bro., J. Cole, to all our renders, doubting not that it is of the Lord. All saints who have corresponded with Bro. Cole, know he is blessed with a very rare gift or penmanship. A few years ago we advised a young Bro. to send to him for copies and instructions in writing. He did so, and received the favor and a rapid change from a poor writer to a beautiful pensman, seems almost a miracle. It is to the glory of God that we be able to write plain, and with ease, and all who can possibly spare the means, especially the young and middle-aged should avail yourselves of this opportunity. You will thereby not only acquire a precious gift, but give to the cause of Christ. And not only so, but how much time and labor it would save us in correcting and transcribing matter sent to us, if more of the dear saints would write plainly. The Lord bless Bro. Cole with many learners in penmanship.

__________

The Fire Brand, a Free methodist sheet gives the following long catalogue of things they are opposed to, namely.” Severel Societies, intemperance, the use of tobacco, wearing of gold, pearls and costly apparel, church sprees, suppers, theatres, concerts, choirs, reating of pews, wearing of corsets, bustles, bangs, feathers and lace, rutllex, lucks, extra dress and ribbons.” Now we say: amen to all this. And suggest to our contemporary that they should have extended their list a little farther, if they propose to come to Bible landmarks. They shold yet add: We are opposed to sectism, and sects, and to the popular habit of robbing God: by calling men Rev. which only belongs to God.“ He sent redemtion unto His people; He hath commanded His covenant for ever: Holy and Reverend is His name.” Psalm — 111:9. Do you think the devil cares how pharisaically straight these sect builders are on some outward things, so long as they rob God of His own glory and give it to man? He says He is a jealous God, and His glory He will not give to another. And yet this God, robbing babylon practice exalts men in God’s place by denominating them Rev. And the editor exalts himself with an A. M. handle to his name. What has Master of Arts to do with holiness. No truly sanctified and killed out man will attach a high sounding worldly title to his name. The editor says Rev. C. M. Kelley, a preacher among the Separate Baptist, called on us.”

How disgusting such babylon confusion. Surely all sects are separate from God and from each other, or only consorted when they must protect their idols by joint opposition to the truth. Again says the Edtor: “Rev. Geo. Griffith has taken in seven members, all clearly saved, as a result of his eight weeks meeting at Essex Ia.” If this Master of Arts preacher and Editor were to become master of some plain New Testament Scripture, he would never again pen such dark age nonsense, and he would be ashamed that he ever was so sectishly blind. Christ says: “By me if any man eater he shall be saved.” But the above eight persons seem to have entered by the Rev. G. In Apostolic times. The Lord added to the Church daily such as should be saved.” Acts — 2:4. 7. A Bro. suggested that the Lord was in all probability absent on the above occasion, and so the substituted Rev. took it upon himself to take the members in. Well whenever a person is taken in by men he is badly taken in. What is the use, for men to make so much ado about sins in dress etc., and yet wink at the sin the New Testament most emphatically abhors and which is cursing more souls than even pride. Namely the abomination of

Page 3

schisms, divisions, or sects. The same Epistle and the same Chap. which says, be not confirmed to this world. — Rom. 12:2. says in the fourth and fifth verses: For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. — Rom. 12:4 5. Now these subverted teachers cry against worldly conformity, but tell the people it is all right to have the many sect bodies instead of one body in Christ. Surely this is straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel. The same Epistle says: Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the heart of the simple. — Rom. 16. 17. 18. When God saves any number of souls in a place He puts them all into one body, and gives them one Spirit. But when Free methodist and other sect, preachers get an influence over them, they will do just what the above Scriptures and others forbid, they will cause divisions among them by drawing them into separate sect enclosures which is a greater sin than any one in the whole catalogue renounced in the Firebrand. But of course this most destructive work of the devil, no sectarian dare open his mouth, against for in so doing he would touch his own idol. God help men professing holiness to be honest, and consistent with the Bible.

__________

JUSTICE AND EQUITY

We take the following lines of good sense and sound reason, for a price set upon Gospel papers, from the Fire Brand

“Most of the subscribers for this paper are not charitable objects; Hence faith cannot operate in the direction of supplying them with papers for nothing. Consider this, the Fire Brand Association giving to those that are not needy, about $650. that ought to have been paid into this work of God, to assist in its success full operation

2nd. To furnish a free paper right along to those who are able to pay for it is to encourage in them a spirit of carelessness and covetousness that endangers their salvation.

3rd. To take a paper because they can get it for nothing is not the right spirit on the part of those who are able to pay for it, nor is it the right spirit on our part towards our brethren who are publishing holiness papers at barely living rates to put out a paper without requiring any personal obligations to pay for it.”

To these arguments we add what is to our mind the only real barrier, to the publication of a paper without price. Namely, the fact that the government only allows papers to pass through the mail as second class matter that have a regular subscription price attached to the same. Without complying with this condition our issue of 4000 papers would take about $40. to pay the mailing, instead of about $2.00. Now we say boldly with such provisions tor the cheap circulation of a paper, nothing but fanaticmis or a delusion of the devil, for the purpose of deceiving unstable souls, can lead to that prodigal use of means incurred by a non compliance with the provisions of the government. One paper tries to make appear to its readers that it is really without price and free, and yet keeps up a mere pretention of subscription price so as to be entered as second class matter. This is practicing a deception on the government. Holiness makes men straight forward in all our dealings with God, man, companies and the government. Even “he that preaches the Gospel shall live of the Gospel.” And the Word of God commands. “Moreover, let him who is receiving instruction in the Word give to his instructor a share in all good things, which he possesses.” Gal. 6; 6. as per, Conybeare and Howson’s tranlation. So there is a positive command of the Lord, upon all who are receiving instruction in the Word of God, to give to their instructor in return for the same. With the exception that the poor have the Gospel preached to them freely. No one can publish a paper without means. And to ask God for means to send a paper free to persons who are able to pay their share of its expenses, is inconsistent with 1he principles underlying the prayer of faith. If the just dues to this office were sent or even such a portion that is owed by persons able to pay, what a happy result it would bring. The present debts would al be paid. O dearly beloved let all who possibly can, send in your help, in this time of need. But let such as are not able, give yourselves no uneasiness. And let all pray.

THE CHILDREN’S PAPER.

:‡:o:‡:

We hereby beg to call the attention of the readers of the Guide that we have found it impossible to publish the paper regularly, though we would like to have done so, owing to the want of means. We have taken the price off the paper through the suggestion of some of the brethren and have sent it forth free in the meantime depending on the Lord’s people to aid us in the work. But we find our present surroundings so unfavorable, we are uncertain how regular we can be in the future. We will try however and issue it as often as possible. Those of the brethren who have subscribed and do not feel perfectly free to help us in our work if we should be compelled to discontinue the little paper, will kindly inform us how many copies they have received and we will try by the help of the Lord and return whatsoever is due them. We trust the brethren will bear with us in this matter. “Whatsoever ye do, do it heartily as unto the Lord and not unto man. Amen.

C. L. Kaumeyer.

NOTE

In a letter from our dear Bro. Kaumeyer, we learn that the Lord is taking him through the furnace of severe trial. And we are thankful to God that the dear Bro seems to say amen to the testing flames. We know what we had to go through before the Lord could entrust us with prosperity. And we do thank God that He seems also to have chosen our Bro. in the furnace of affliction. The Lord bless Bro. Kaumeyer. Let all the saints pray much for him, and do not forget to send in aid as the Lord prospers and leads you. Amen.

__________

CONCORD IN SINGING

—§o§—

(1st.) Music is a God given gift.

(2nd.) God is the author of beauty and harmony.

In Ephesians, we have the text viz. Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Eph. — 5:19. God has given us the gift of song to praise Him with. But remember He only loves Spiritual praise in songs that spring spontaneously from the heart.

We have another beautiful text. What is it then? I will pray with the Spirit and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the Spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. 1st. Cor. — 14:15. We infer from this Scripture that we are to comprehend the meaning of the hymns then sing it with the real animating power of the Holy Spirit. We must sing with the understanding, if we want the songs to be effectual. For an example, suppose some one is singing with an assembly, and he does not taste the real spiritual meat contained in the hymn, because he does not sing from the heart, nor keep in harmony with the others it tends to deaden the spirit of devotion, and is an indifference which grieves the Divine Spirit. Some get careless and do not keep the perfect rythm and time as they should; some go to fast while others get too slow. Let us pray the Lord to help us as we read these lines, to sing better in the future.

When God tells us we must serve Him. with one heart and one mouth, it includes singing also.

God’s great organ (the church) is like an insttument. When keys, or notes of perfect concord are not touched, it produces discord; and what is more grating and annoying to lovers of harmony, in heaven and earth. As the instrument when not played right produces discord, so God’s great instument (the church) when it is not in harmony in song. God is much more perceptive of discordance than we are or can be. Parties who make discord, are not annoyed by it like those who hear it. Many times same get carried off with enthusiasm and give but little attention to one essential part in music, viz. time and accent; which if neglected it becomes tasteless. Not long ago we noticed a piece of poetry describing an old lady singing thus, said she: “When I was up they were down” Let us look out for that and keep the same pitch with the others, because God has raised us up together and made us sit together and we should also sing together. Let us glorify God for what He has done for us, and keep trying by His help to improve in our singing. Another important point comes to our mind. In starting a hymn we ought never to use a loud boisterous voice; but beg in softly in a natural tone and thus avoid all discord and unharmonious sounds. Also when we sing one verse we ought to stop for the lungs to fill, and take sufficient time to draw a full and free breath before starting in on the next stanza. We have been in many places where some stop proper lenth of time for breath, and others unthoughtedly, catch the words of the next verse and commence, before the sound of the former one scarcely dies away. This should not be done. We should wait the proper time for breath, to do justice to the songs, to ourselves and to the Lord. We should ask God to assist us in singing just the same as in preaching, praying, or testifying. For He tells us, without me ye can do nothing.” the Bible also says, the Lord will rejoice over ns with ringing.”

The gift of song is Divine; hence we must have Divine inspiration to properly sing. God does not love discord, but harmony. It is a fundamental principle in music. Brethren, practice makes perfect. We may let this precious gilt of music slip away from us, if we do not practice what we have already learned. Many of us before we were saved thought we could not sing, but after having given our hearts to the Lord, we find in our possession, by His blessing the ability to sing, the rapturous songs of redeeming love. So we may go on and our capacity for singing may ever enlarge. God grant us all His mighty help in this direction is our prayer.

B. E. Warren.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD

Denver Colo. May. 4. 1890

Dear Brethren: — God bless you abundantly out of His fulness. We held some meetings in a colored baptist house, and God gave us wonderful victory. For a few nights they seemed to enjoy it wonderfully and said we preached the pure Word of God. and rejoiced to hear it again. But it did not last long; there was soon a wall of opposition raised up against the Truth. The following Sunday we had meeting at a private house, and how God did wonderfully bless, and lead the saints into deep things of God, such as they had not seen before. It was the beginning of real work here at Denver. Since, the work has been going on grandly with victory in the meetings at the Calfornia house again. Last Sunday afternoon we had baptismal services again, where God was wonderfully manifest. Souls have been saved frequently. This last week has been a noted one or God. Praise God! the most wonderful we have had. God has been using us to lead the saints into their freedom, and the joy of the Lord in their hearts, and to cry aloud, and shout ye inhabitants of zion. Some are out blessedly and others are accepting the light, while some are very slow. One man that did not believe the Bible came to the meeting one night with his wife, and were so convicted that they both went to the altar without any one asking them, and left blessedly converted. His sister came afterwards and was broken down and converted. Some have renounced the sects. There are several to baptize again. Not a great many attend the meetings but we ask God to send those who will accept the Truth, and He does it. Praise His dear name! Bro. and sister Newkirk came here from Neb. during the past week full of fire, which adds much to the work. Praise the Lord! they expect to make this their home. I remain your Bro. in Christ sanctified wholly and kept by the power of God: ready to be reveealed in the last time. Praise God!

Dear Trumpet Readers: — We have over come the world, flesh, and the devil, and have the victory over the beast. The Lord is very precious to my soul this morning while I write. He has employed the elements of heaven and earth to carry this blessed truth to every nation.

China has built a house in each small section(or township) for the stranger. In other smaller kingdoms in Africa, they have lands and servants for the support of the missionary. It seems that the Lord wants this blessed evening light in every land. A miracle will move the heart of a king just as much now as in the days of Paul, and heathens are more ready to believe than poor sect ridden people.

The glorious truth is spreading here in Canada, and some of the preachers are obedient to the faith. One Sunday night, there was a young man at the meeting, and was admonished personly about his soul. And on the following Wednesday, took sick. The Methodist preacher called on him and asked if the Lord should call him away, “are you ready?” He answered: “According to the Bible, I am not.” He died on Sunday evening. After he died, his sister cried out: “O mother, is he in Heaven? but no response. Neither did the preacher preach him in heaven, as they usually try to do, because the people are learning that salvation is a deliverance from sin.

I am praising the Lord to-day that I am saved to the uttermost, waiting any moment for the summons.

Bellefontaine, Ohio.

To all the saints and readers of the Trumpet greeting. We returned home Apr. 29. from Clark Go. O. where we held meeting in two neighborhoods. Some of the saints from Logan Co. attended some of the meetings. Our God was with us in the power of His might. The works of satan were confounded and a few souls were saved from sin. Near the close of the meeting a very precious ordinance meeting was held at the house of Bro. J. A. Hardacre; about 20 saints participated. Also three souls followed the Lord in baptism. May God ever bless and keep the church in that place is our earnest prayer to God in the name of Jesus. Pray for us all ye saints of the most High. Yours sanctified wholly.

—:o:

Carthage, Mo. May 7, 1890.

TO all the saints greeting: — God’s grace and peace be with you, amen! We closed an 8 days meeting in Columbus, Kan. a few days ago; there had been one holiness meeting held in, that place before; and about 24 or 25 made a profession most of them professed holiness, many of whom we could find no trace of when we got there. We are glad to say that a few of the dear ones were straight, and would walk in the light of God, and were anxious to know the truth, but we no sooner began teaching God’s truth, than many began to be afraid; part of their fears were no doubt caused by professed holiness preachers telling them to be careful and take no rash steps until they knew more about us. Two dear souls professed holiness during the other meeting, and had the preacher sprinkle them, he said he hated to do it, but they wanted him to. We want to say here to the glory of God, that in that meeting there were some helpers in the Gospel, that wanted to do straight work, but were hindered by other crooked workers, and those who wanted to preach straight had to just stand by and see the F. M. preacher hold the bowl and the man that professed to be clear, sprinkled. Truly they needed the truth preached to them. We preached to the dear ones several nights and two or three were saved.

They did not want us to say one word about sects &c. We really do live in periluos times, when men will not endure sound doctrine. So it is in many places we find, so many more professors than have a real experience of salvation, but we rejoice to find true ones all the way along. We are at home now, and will be for some time, before traveling again. Pray for us. We are all in good health, and wonderfully saved in Jesus. Praise His name. Amen!

Ridgeville Corners, Ohio. May 8, 1890.

Dearly Beloved Saints: — In the evening of April 16th, we met with the Church in the house of Bro. Labnum in Auburn, Ind. where we had a precious refreshing from the presence of the Lord All our souls were made joyful in glory. One dear soul who had lost the victory in the Lord, was restored to the peace and power of God. The next evening we began meeting in a large hall. Bro. J. N. Howard helping us in the work, over Lord’s day, whom God effectually used in preaching the Gospel. It is hoped that a tabernacle meeting will be held in Auburn this summer, which will be the most effectual means of reaching the multitudes with the Gospel.

From there we went east of Auburn, in a neighborhood where the truth had been preached, but very little, and held meetings in private houses and in a school- house, and the truth was acknowledged by the people. May the 5th, we started for this place, and that evening stopped with the saints near Antwerp. The brethren are preparing to build a meeting-house soon. We began meeting here last evening in the M. E. house to continue as long as the Lord wills. From here we go to Florida, and Archbold, O. thence to Bracken, Huntington Co. Ind. to begin meeting about May 25th or 30th.

Pray for us that we may be kept very humble and in the order of God.

OBITUARIES.

Dow, Pa. May 3rd 1890.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — Jesus Christ is our friend, preserver, and our guide, and we have faith that He is doing all things for us the best and most profitable, although it seems hard and heartbreaking,

His ways are above ours.

We, as brothers and sisters in Christ, had to witness a scene last April 23, that was most heartbreaking to us. Our dear Bro. F. W. Berkheiser’s departure from this earthly tabernacle. But we can rerejoice that he had the assurance of an inheritance, a home not made by man, but by God, the Father in heaven. He left a wife, one son, and two daughters to mourn his departure, but he, before his departure, gave them happy and thrilling hopes of going to heaven. O what joy that will be at at the gathering of the faithful. What a gathering there will be when our friends and loved ones meet to never part again. He was our preacher for a long time, was a man of deep talents, and was always willing to give needed advice for soul and body. But we will give ourselves into the hands of Jesus Christ, and say: “What thou doesr is done well.” He was laid to his last resting place at the Reedsvill burial place. Funeral services were held by E. J. Miller & F. Maas, and was well attended.

He has gone above,
To the home of love;
And there with Jesus will stay,
Till the resurrection day.

Our brother is not dead but liveth forever with Jesus.

Your saved Bro.

H. S. Mengel.

-:o:-

The above note deeply touches our heart. We have only met the dear Bro. in spirit. But O, how dear he seemed to our heart. How sweet the fellowship we could feel in the spirit of God. An honest obedient child of God. He obeyed the voice of heaven and came out from among formal sinners, proud, sectish, anti-holiness spirits with whom he was unequeally yoked in the Winebrennarian d.. nomination. And though that step subjected him to persecutions and trials, his heart was ever true to God in the furnace flame. O how our soul longed to meet beloved Bro. Berkheiser. But now we greet him in glory. God bless the memory of the faithful man of God. It will ever linger in our hearts. May God bless his dear family. And the Lord comfort and keep the little flock that have lost a precious watchman. Amen.

SISTER Mary Jane Petry, wife of Bro. Jacob Petry, was born May 3rd 1839 in Richland Co, Ohio. Died at Beaver Dam Ind. April 24th 1890, aged 50 yrs., 11 months and 21 days. She leaves a husband and 4 children to mourn the loss of a christian wife and mother who has gone to embrace her Savior and too dear little infants, whom God saw fit to call away to the home above which God the Father hath prepared for all those that love Him and obey His Word. And of such was dear sister Petry. She had lived a member in that Lutheran denomination for 27 years. But at last, — a little over 3 years ago, she heard the Angels voice: “Come out of her my people and not be partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” From that time up till the last, she could testify, “I have the victory.” She leaves many friends to mourn. Though she is missed in the assembly of the saints here, she has joined that part of Fathers family above. May the Lord bless the bereaved children, and may they seek the Lord while He is to te found. The power and presence of the Lord was manifested and felt in the solemn funeral service, which was preached by Bro. B. F. Bear. Text, Job 30 23.

Decatur, Miss. April 12, 1890.

Dear Brethren: — This morning the sad, sad news comes to us, that the monster death has chosen one of our nearest and nearest friends on earth. And one nearer to some others than us; a poor grief stricken wife and 5 children are left to mourn their loss. But his is an eternal gain.

After a hard days labor on the farm, April 11,, our dearly beloved Bro. W. P. White lay down to rest for the night, and in a short time was suddenly seized with violent sphasms, which continued all night long, and the next morning, April 12, he expired. He was a good pure christian, much beloved by everybody. He was free from all sectarian prejudice, and loved all christians. He lived much in prayer and loved his family. O may the Lord comfort and bless the dear bereaved family. “We have no continuing city, but we seek one to come. May the Lord save the dear friends, that may at last dwell with our departed Bro. Amen.

LIVING FAITH.

—:o:—

THE want of christians to day is a living faith. A faith that sees Christ’s hand fashioning the destiny of the world. A faith that is willing to be at oneness with God. A faith that does not only see Him far away, but feels His presence touching immediately on the common experience of every day life. Such a faith would rise above the apparent weakness of christian men and women, and make giants in the holy conflict in which light is driving back darkness so slowly because of weakness of the instruments employed. Such a faith would be healing for all the imagined wrongs inflicted by brethren; balm for the pains of selfishness; oil for the troubled waters, rolling in great bilows over distress and discouraged hearts; sunshine in a sin beclouded world; joy in sorrow, and life in the midst of death. Let us rise my brother and sister to a living faith. That living faith shall lift thee to the skies and open thine eyes to see of a beautiful life, now and to hear songs as sweet as those the angels sing.

Atlanta Kansas.

Dear Brethren in Christ: — The Lord saves me from all sin and sanctifies me wholly by a second work of grace. I am 13 years old my geatest desire is to do God’s will in all things. Brother Achor came here and held meeting. I bless God for such full and free salvation. I want to say too that the Trumpet is a welcome visitor at our home. Our place of worship is 3 miles north of Atlanta; we are but few in number but God is with us in our meetings.

Dear Saints: — I am very thankful to my Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ my hope and salvation, that I am permitted once more by the mercies of my dear Father to tell God’s people that I am still saved through Jesus Christ my blessed Redeemer and kept by the power of God. Dear Saints there are a few of God’s little ones at this place, and we started a prayer meeting in the name of the Lord, not in the name of a class leader but in the name of the Lord and have kept them up for about two months there were only four of God’s people present each evening for several evenings but of late some of the M. E. members have been present each meeting and took part in them. Praise God for ever and ever. The time will soon come that each one of God’s little ones may come out of babel. Praise the Lord for salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord. He has kept our little prayer meetings going on without a division and there are no stay-at-home son’s and daughters in God’s army on account of muddy roads, head-ache, and evil talk, etc. No, praise the Lord! He will always open up a way to escape all these things, and overcome them easily. There were also a number of the German Reformers present, but could not take part in the meeting. Some have never prayed in public but being a member in the German Reformed class book for a number of years. O may the Lord in His great mercy look down upon those blind guides and open their eyes and understanding, that they may see for themselves that it is all foolishness to God, the way they worship Him. And may they lay aside their false religion and get the salvation of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Well dear ones, we are still saved and kept by the power of God. Dear ones, pray much for us, for we need the prayers of all God’s little ones to keep us together unto Him we have to do with. We have prayer-meeting every Sunday evening, at Bro. Stoners, and on Tuesday evening at my place. The Lord is our leader, and our preacher, and we do all in His name and honor and glory. amen!

Your Bro. in Christ.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — We feel it a duty to testify what the Lord has done for us. This present moment finds us saved and wholly consecrated to do the Lord’s will. Although not fully healed, yet well enough to do hard labor for which we feel grateful and will give God all the glory. We feel fully resigned to the Lord’s will. If needs be that we should suffer to hear our suffering with patience. In the last year, we had lost trust in the Lord and fell into doubts, because we could not be healed of our bodily afflictions for some reason, whether it was not the Lord’s will, or whether our faith was not sufficient to trust the Lord fully for the healing power, we cannot tell. But this we can say that we have fully consecrated and resigned to God’s will in all things. We have a great desire to be healed of the Lord so we can be more able to testify to the healing power. But the Lord’s will be done in all things. Whether in health or sickness, we can praise the Lord for the cleansing blood that has washed us, cleansed us from all sin, and made us a member in the body of the first born, whose names are recorded in Heaven.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — I praise the Lord for full and complete salvation, and for His wonderful keeping power, for I know that He keeps me free from all sin, all alone with Him, alone with Jesus, oh how sweet. It seems that the weak points in my nature are continually being tested and tried in turn. Bless the dear Lord! He gives me a glorious victory so that I can say that I am more than conqueror through Him who loved me, and gave Himself for me. Amen.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — I Praise God that He has given me this blessed salvation which causes me to rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory. For it is a well of water springing up in my soul. It seems sometimes as if my heart was overflowing with love and praise when I think what He has done for me and is still doing. O praise His name all ye people, for:

Once I sat in silent wonder,
Heard saints tell of wondrous peace;
Heard them praise the God of glory,
For the joys which never cease;
Heard them sing and shout for glory,
With their faces all aglow;
Wondered with a heart all hungry,
If the things they told were so.

But to-night, O hallelujah!
I no longer silent am;
While the ransomed tell the mercies,
Of the Father and the Lamb;
For I now can join the singing,
Of the purchased by the blood;
While my very inmost being,
Is thrilled with the love of God.

Your sister in the Lord, saved and sanctified.

Dearly Reloved Saints of God: — This morning finds me sweetly saved in Jesus, and walking in all the light God lets shine in my pathway. The dear Lord has seen fit to call from our household three dear ones inside of eight months. Oh how could I stand the trials of this life if it was not for my blessed Redeemer. He doeth all things well, and I know they are sweetly at rest. “I am dead to this world and its pleasures my affections are centered above, where we own such a wonderful treasure in that home in the city of Love.” Pray for me that I ever prove faithful unto the end.

Dear Brethren in Christ: — I praise God this evening for salvation that keeps me from all the evil of this world; that has enabled me to take a firm stand for the right, and stand true to Jesus and His Word. For calling me to Him when I was far away in unbelief and sin. Oh praise the Lord, forever. Jesus said: “come unto me and I will in no wise cast you out. I tried Him and found Him true in all His promises. Pray for me that I may do the whole will of God.

Your sister saved and on the way to glory.

Dear Saists: — I am saved from all sin, and have complete victory in my soul, just now my soul doth magnify the Lord. Glory to His name! I realize the blood of Jesus cleanseth me from all sin, and gives me fellowship with the children of God. Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity. The dear saints here are walking in the light of God, and in the unity of the Spirit. Glory to Jesus! Although satan did try wonderfuly to divide the dear little ones by some of his pernicious devices, but it pleased the dear Lord to send Bro. Hevel, of Decalb, Co. Ind. here to admonish us to stand fast in the liberty where-with Christ hath made us free, and reading and telling the Word so plain that about all were made to see what God required of each one all were willing to render to Caesar the things that are Caesars, and to God the things that are God’s, which gives us complete victory in our souls; most all were made to leap and shout for joy, for the accuser of our brethren is cast down. And the Church is clear as crystal, and now living in. — 1 Cor. 1:10. Brethren pray for us that we may forever be of one mind and speak the same thing. Dear saints I do know if we trust God and go to Him, for wisdom we will be all one, and speak the same thing. Let as many as be perfect, be thus minded, and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. Let us live according to the Word, let us have our daily walk, and conversation holy, for just weight is His delight. I was a sectarian about 12 years, then I heard the call “come out of her my people.” I knew I was one of His people and I do praise the Lord for the honesty I had to obey the call. Oh I wish all could see how needful it is to obey the Lord. Brethren let us do with our might what our hands finds to do, and if we are willing, we will all find something to do in the vinyard of our Master. Pray for me, that I do what God has for me to do. God has set us in His Body as it has pleased Him, Let us abide in the same calling where-in we were called. Art thou called, being a servant, care not for it. But that thou mayest be made free. Your sister under the blood. Pray for me that I may stay at the feet of Jesus! sanctified, hallelujah.

Dear Saints: — I do praise the Lord for the sweetness and completeness, that I have in my soul this morning, praise His Holy name. I was justified, then sanctified, and now I am standing on the sea of glass, ready to do my Master’s bidding at all times. The Lord has cleansed me from everything that is offensive to Him; chewing tobacco, smoking, drinking whiskey, trading, and has unyoked me from all unbelievers, and all human organizations, and I am as free as He wants me to be. I do not have to go to a discipline made by man, or to the preacher, or Noble Grand to get the password, but I find it in the Word of God. And the word is holiness, “for without holiness no man shall see God.” And the password is not changed every six months either but is the same yesterday to day, and forever.

Your Bro. saved and sanctified.

Dear Saints: — While reading the experiences of others. I was moved to tell you a little of my own. I with many others of about my own age, was converted in a meeting held in our town by an Evangelist, in the year ,83. We were made to believe that no one could live a christain life without belonging to a sect. In the year 18888 I was sanctified, while at a camp meeting, and was also healed about that time, of heart trouble. Since that time I realized the truth spoken by our blessed Savior in. — Mark. 10:30. “And also Timothy in the second, and third chapters. 12 verse.” “Yea and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” Then, and not until then, did I realize that, “to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey. — Rom. 6:16. I was brought to see plainly that Jesus wished me to leave the world, and the things of the world, and to be led and taught by Him, for, praise God, “The anointing which we have received, abideth in us, and we need not that any man teach us, for the anointing teacheth us.” Hallelujah! I am free now, and nothing would induce me to unite with any sect. We have the Lord with us, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against us.

Your Bro. saved.

Dearly Beloved Saints: — I feel led of the Lord to write my testimony. While quite young I attempted to seek the Lord but to no avail. For several years, I was in that deplorable condition. Sometimes feeling that I must obtain salvation, but did not know the plan of salvation. Finally I came to the Lord in an acceptable manner and He forgave me of my sins. But I soon found I was living a zigzag life one day down in the valley, and the next day on the mountain top. Sometimes I thought I was living a child of God, and sometimes the reverse. But Glory be to Jesus, my sister received the blessing of sanctification, and I saw she had more than I ever did, and I commenced calling upon the Lord and soon found myself a sinner in His sight. I confessed my sins and He forgave me, I then offered my body a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto the Lord and he sanctified me, and now I am living the life of Christ. The Word says: “Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls; for my yoke is easy and burden is light.” Glory to Jesus for ever and ever! I just realize that I have the yoke of Christ on me and I have sweet rest and peace in my soul. O praise the Lord! The Lord says: Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. By the assisting grace of God, I too have overcome the world, flesh, and the devil. I glorify God’s holy name that I have a friend, that sticketh closer than a brother; He has promised to never leave me, nor forsake me. O who would not wish a friend like that. Pray for me, that I may always be kept in the order of the Lord.

Dear Brethren: I am still praising God, for full and free salvation in Jesus. Glory to God; I am still saved and sanctified though the truth. Praise the Lord, we have a little band of christians out here, but have not much preaching. If ever the devil was loose, it is in this country; but praise God, we intend to hold the fort in spite of all. We do wish some good ministers of Jesus would come down here; we do not want any unless they have the Spirit of Christ. We would be glad to welcome some of you here. May God bless you a all. Pray for us all.

OBITUARY.

—§o§—

William Alvey Chaney, the son of Bro. and sister A. Chaney. Died March 20 1890. Age 11 years, 6 months, 17 days. Dear Alvey gave his heart to God, and he was justified by faith and soon afterward sanctified, at the beginning of his sickness which lasted a little over 7 weeks. He suffered much, especially at the close of his illness when he suffered acutely. But sweetly fell asleep in Jesus, and passed away without a struggle. The saints at Payne labored much, and kindly for his. Spiritual welfare, and physical comfort. God bless and reward them, and the friends for their labors of love, and sympathies in his sickness. A few days before his death he sent for us to come and visit him. Alvey was desirous to be restored to health. We look his case to the Lord in earnest prayer, and Father showed us very clearly that it was not His will to heal him, but He was pleased to take His son home, in order to save his parents, and this message we delivered to them, and both father and mother yielded to God, and were sweetly saved. Immediately after the father getting the victory; he leaping, shouting, and praising God for joy, rushed to the bedside of his suffering child, father and son embracing each other, shouting, weeping, and praising God for joy. Alvey’s prayers and sufferings for 7 weeks were not in vain. The sight will never be forgotten by the witnesses. All had been done for his restoration, prayers had been offered, and physicians employed, but the Lord took him away. Oh may the parents, brothers, and friends so live, so as to meet him in heaven. He died a little over a day after his parents I were saved. Thus fulfilled his mission on earth, to reign in heaven. Amen! Funeral service conducted by the writer; test precious in the sight of the Lord, is the death of His saints. Ps. 110:15.

F. N. Jacobson.
