Pure Testimony,

—:o:—

THE pure testimony put forth in the Spirit,
Cuts like a sharp, two-edged Sword,
And hypocrites now are sorely tormented,
Because they’re condemned by the Word.
The pure testimony discovers the dross,
While wicked profedsorsmake light of the cross,
And babylon trembles for fear of her loss.

Then blow ye the Trumpet in pure testimony,
And let the saints hear it again;
Oh come ye from Babylon, Egypt, and Sodom,
And make your way over the plain.
Come, wash all your robes in the blood of the Lamb,
And walk in the Spirit as Jesus has done
In the pure testimony you will overcome.

The world will not persecute those who are like them
But hold them the same as their own;
The pure testimony cries out, Separation,
Which cause you your lives to lay down.
Come out of their spirit, and practices too;
The track of your Savior keep full in your view,
The pure testimony will cut its way through.

The battle is coming between the two kingdoms,
The armies are gathering round;
The pure testimony and vile persecution,
Will come to close battle ere long;
Then gird on your armor, ye saints of the Lord,
And He will direct you by His living Word;
The pure testimony will cut like a Sword.

CONFUSION OF CONFUSION.

—:o:—

WE knew of nothing more utterly mixed and confused than this anti-ordinance distemper. Scarcely two of its advocates hold the same theory. At the St. James, Mo. C. M. there were a few of these wandering stars present. And there being some present from a distance, who had become honest, and already convinced of the error, and wishing instruction, we read the Word of God on the subject. When showing that these ordinances of Christ were to be observed until Christ would come, or to the end of the world, one of the gloomy spirits interrupted, saying: “the world has come to an end already.” It had been advocated that these commands were of the Old Testament ceremonies. In our discourse we announced the offer we had made in the Trumpet some years ago, to make a present of $10 to any person who would give us the chapter and verse where one of them was recorded in the Old Testament. We said that offer still remained besides, for the instruction of all we asked any person in the congregation to arise and tell us the place any one of them may be found in the Old testament. No one offered to give the information. Having thus been enjoined by Jesus Christ, “the mediator of the New Covenant;” we again calk d for the book, chapter, and verse where they were abrogated or taken away. A poor deceived Case, responded that it was found in 1 Cor. 11th chapter. We asked what verse; but he did not recollect; so we turned to the chapter and began to read as follows:

“Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. Now I praise you brethren that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances as I deliver them to you.” — 1 Cor. 11:1, 2.

But he said that was not the place. Well it does not seem to suit for that purpose. We then read verses 20-26, where the Apostle tells us he received the Lord’s supper from the Lord Himself, and describes it in the same words Christ did when He first instituted the same. And that by it we were to show forth the Lord’s death till He came There, says friend Case, that is where it ended. The man’s wife said that Christ came when He saved her soul, and he said it was at the destruction of Jerusalem. So each one had a different theory. Confusion and division in the same house. But when we called attention to the disgusting affair, she dropped her theory, and claimed the same as he did. So we see the anti-ordinance spirit is a kind of cut and try; jump at a conclusion, run against a snag, back out and dodge another way spirit, any argument that will seem to do for the present occasion, no difference whether it is of God, or of the devil, truth or error. This reckless, any dodge spirit has clearly been shown by Lyman H. Johnson, the Anti-New Testament holiness, healing and ordinance Zealot. Before a large congregation in Sulphur Springs, Crawford Co., Ohio, about six years ago, he said that the Apostles had not found out these ordinances were abolished until eight years after Pentecost. After his long speech, we opened the Word of God at 1 Cor. 11, and proved the man a false teacher before all, showing that 26 years after the day of Pentecost, an inspired Apostle commanded the Church of Cod at Corinth to “keep the ordinances as he had delivered them to them.” So finding he has spun a falsehood, he, some two years ago comes Out with another yarn, that the ordinances of Christ ended A. D. 64. And now these Mo. Anti’s tell us that Christ came and took His three ordinances away at the time that Jerusalem was destroyed which was A. D. 70. Now if Johnson preached what he did not know to be true six years ago, and which he evidently found out to be a lie, and since he gives us no confession of having been saved since that time, what confidence can be placed in His teaching now?

Well when this poor anti Case said that Christ came in the year 70, we asked him to give us a, thus saith Lord for his assertion, he made no effort: but his deluded wife, who is pitifully robbed by the pernicious spirits, of good manners and womanly modesty, responded, with a long interruption, in which she confessed that we had the Holy Spirit, but she had more light. But she of course gave us not one text of Scripture to prove the point she arose to prove. The same woman said that two-thirds of the New Testament was for the ordinances, and one-third against them. They also taught that there would not be any other coming of Christ, no resurrection but the spiritual, and no general judgment. So it is when people believe one lie, they are forced to take in a half dozen more to make the first look consistent.

And now we have a mess of confusion worse confused, before us, from a man whose child is possessed, and greatly afflicted with devils. The parents brought her to the Bangor Camp-meeting. All the saints could see the Spiritual condition of the man. He was labored with, but failed to make the necessary consecration. As our heart sympathies were drawn out for the poor little sufferer, we were willing to do all we could for her deliverance. In a little talk just before going to prayer, we asked him if he had renounced his erroneous doctrine, and whether he now received the ordinances of Christ; to both of which he positively answered, yes. Hands were laid on the child in the name of the Lord, and a marvelous deliverance was manifest. The child who shrank from us before with a devilish mien, now had her face lit up with joy, shouted, and embraced the sisters, and shook hands with us all. But alas! this proved to he a short respite. They went home and and wrote us that she was still suffering. He found fault with me for asking him the questions I did, and added: “Of course I am on the Quaker line.” We wrote him that we were surprised that he would tell a positive falsehood there in the presence of God, and that such conduct could only be called hypocrisy. Now we introduce a few extracts from a letter from that man to show you the utter confusion of the anti- ordinance spirit. Of us he says: “You see it is the carnal mind that stirs you.” “You are doing a good work.” “I will try in the future and send you what I can possibly spare.” “Bro. Warner has a good heart.” “Bro. Warner, have you not at times, when you were trying your best to do good and right, then some would misconstrue all your best efforts, and call you hard names? Yes, I believe you have had such times, for all the true saints have such experiences.” Here we are pronounced carnal, and other things are said about us; and yet we have a “good heart,” are a “true saint,” “doing a good work,” etc. Such inconsistency might well be expected of anti-apostolic deceived men.

Again, “Is that charity that esteems others better than ourselves,’ and that vaunteth not itself?”

“If we desire such punishment, then Woe to the general professor; holiness professors too.” “Why should God punish us when we live perfect in His sight, yet we continue to say: Lord, what is it that we lack?”

Here is another mess of confusion. He wants men to esteem others, especially himself, better than themselves, and then proceeds to esteem himself better than the general professor, and holiness professsors. Claims to live perfect, and yet knows not what he lacks.

Once more. He says: “I am willing even to call for Mormon Elders, for they have grand suecess in healing. A friend of mine was wonderfully healed by the Advents. God is not such a narrow hearted being as poor man is.” Here is climax of confusion. A religion that says good Lord, or good devil; whatever suits best for the time. Just as soon a Mormon would heal his child, as God Himself.

And then to so blaspheme the character of God, to make out that Mormons, who have dug into the pit and brought up another Gospel, of whom the Apostle says: “let such be accursed,” and even Adventists, who are so dead that they think they have no soul, to say that God father’s and blesses all these corrupt and abominable antichrist spirits which His Word is so “narrow hearted” as to pronounce a curse up on, is a sure sign of a sin darkened soul, and a half shattered brain. Such are the fruits of that bigotry that arrogates to itself more perfect wisdom than Christ and His Apostles had, and accordingly sneers at the ordinances they instituted, practiced, and enjoined upon all the children of God.

Oh what awful, amt soul destructive fruit comes from not abiding in the truth in these perilous times. “Because they have despised the law of the Lord, and have not kept His commandments, and their lies caused them, to err.” — Amos. 2:4. “Depart from me ye evil doers: for I will keep the commandments of my God.” — Psa. 119:115.

“Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently.” — Verse 4.

“All thy commandments are faithful.’ Verse 86.

“All thy commandments are truth.” — Verse 151.

“All thy commandments are righteous.” — Verse 172.

“By this we know we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments: and His commandments are not grievous.” — 1 John 5:2, 3.

“And he that keepeth His commandments dwelleth in Him and He in him. And hereby we know that He abideth in us, by the Spirit He bath given us.” — 1 John 3:24.

“And this is love, that we walk in His commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.” — 2 Jno. 6.

“And hereby we do know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth His Word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in Him. He that saith he abideth in Him ought also so to walk even as He walked.” — 1 John 2:3-6.

“A good understanding have all they that do His commandments.” — Psa. 111:10.

“The wise in heart will receive commandments, but a prating fool shall, fall.” — Prov. 10:8.

“He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul: but he that despiseth His ways shall die.” — Prov. 19:16.

“Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.” — Rev 22:14, 15.

“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments: For this is the whole duty of man.” — Ecclesiastes 12:13.

TO DO THE WILL OF GOD.

—:o:—

“I AM the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit He taketh it away; and every branch that beareth fruit, He purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now ye are dean through the word which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye, abide in me. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.” — Jno. 15:1-4, 6.

By reading the first verse, we find that Jesus is the true and only way. And if he is the only way, why should we enter some other door? for He says: “I am the door.” The second verse teaches that He has some branches in Him that do not bear fruit, they have been converted, but do not work for Him, and will not go on unto perfection, and such ones “He taketh away,” because they will not bear fruit by working for Him, and doing His will; “for this is the will of God, even your sanctification.’’ But some do bear fruit, and if they continue in His love and are worthy, He will sanctify them. He purgeth them until they are clean, and gives them the Holy Ghost.

The third verse teaches that the disciples were clean, through the Word.” But they were not yet sanctified; did not yet have the Holy Ghost, for we read that some of them sinned, but after the sanctifier came, we see how much stronger they were. Jesus prayed to the Father saying; “sanctify them through thy truth, thy Word is truth.” Christ teaches us that we are to trust Him, and He is to be in us, and we in Him. He is to reign in us and rule over us. Then we ought to come out of everything that is disorderly, and live in the peace He gives, and He will be a satisfying portion to us. “And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” — Rev. 18:4.

The 6th verse tells us what becomes of those who do not trust Him, but rather trust in the arm of flesh, or stand on some human foundation. And also teaches that man is a branch, instead of each sect denomination being a branch, as is usually taught.

Jesus says: “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” — Jno. 14:15. Now let us see what are His commandments.

So after they had washed their feet, and had taken His garments, and was set down again. He said unto them, Know ye what I have done to yon? Ye calk me Master and Lord: and ye say well for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. A new commandment give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.” — Jno. 13:12—15, 34.

“Salute one another with an holy kiss.” Rom. 16:16. 1st Cor. 16:20. 2nd Cor. 13:12. 1st Thess. 5:26. “Greet one another with a kiss of charity. 1 Pet. 5:14.

“If ye know these things happy are ye if ye do them.” “And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. Yet count him not an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. — 2 Thess. 3:14, 15. There are other commandments, but I speak of these because they are the least regarded by those who profess to be His people. When we are sealed by the Holy Spirit we can live above sin, and do not need letters of commendation from any man, for our recommendation is in heaven, far above all that man can give us. For by one spirit are we all baptized into one body. — 1 Cor. 12:13.

How easy it is to tell the children of God from those who profess to be His children. We love to keep all His commandments because we love Him. And His Spirit will guide us in the way of truth because we trust Him. Even if we do have enemies of the truth who want to fight us all the time, let us tr..st. Him, and at all times Be found living witnesses for Him; whether we are with saints or with sinners, let us be bold tor God and His cause, and be ready to give an answer to those who ask us of the hope we have, within us. When two of His true children meet, whether they have ever met, before or not, in conversation they will agree as one, and love each other more than brothers in the flesh. What will God do with those who preach and teach division? Paul says: “But I hough we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you, than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed,” Gal. 1:8. We have often heard preachers say to those who have just made a start:” “If you cannot be at home in our church, be sure and join some church, so you will have a home.” Oh what teaching, when they ought to know there is but one church, and that is the body of Christ, and He is the head and door. He openeth and no man shutteth; and shutteth and no man openeth. But each sect has a door that is opened ond shut by man, and they try to, make us believe that we must go through their door in order to get into heaven; but I would say to all those who have lately started, keep out of all sect doors, because when you give your name to any sect, you lose your freedom where-unto Christ hath made you free. They bring out their discipline – a carnal law and ask you if you are willing to be governed by that, instead of asking if you are willing, to be governed by the bible. And if any member is tried for any misdemeanor, their carnal law or discipline stands at the head of their sect, from which judgment is rendered. “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, And be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

J. B. Polley.

Dear Saints: — We are free in the Lord, He has saved us from all sin. Praise the name of Jesus forever! we were in darkness but now are walking in the light of Christ, sanctified wholly to do His will. Bless the Lord! we do not have to wait until we die to receive the blessed experience of sanctification; because Jesus said: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. “And for then sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; that they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sen.. me. And the glory which thou gavest m.. I have given them; that they may be one even as we are one.” — John 17:19—22. Praise God for such a blessed experience. “And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying. Behold, the tabernacle of God … with men, and he shall dwell with them and they shall be his people, and God, himself shall be with them, and be their God.” — Rev. 21:3 Well bless God! that is the kind of an experience that we have.

We are praising God for sending Bro. Bolds and family in this neighborhood, and for the evening light that has been spread here. There are a few saints here at this place who have given up all for Christ. We have a house at this place to hold meeting in, but it is not finished yet. When we get it ready we will be glad for some of God’s ministers to call around this way and preach the straight Word of God. Amen!

Dear Saints: — I feel that it would be to the glory of God for me to write my testimony. I can say of a true heart that I am saved with an everlasting salvation; and I feel the glory of God in my soul. O bless God for His goodness toward His children. We had a glorious meeting at Bro. Henry Haldermans to-day; the blessings of God came down on His children, and it seems that every thing that has breath ought to praise the Lord. He is keeping me each hour of my life from sin. O it is sweet to trust God at all times. I ever expect to put my trust in the living God. My prayer is that He may save poor souls from the burning pit.

Your Bro. saved and sanctified.

NEW CHURCH TRACT.

—:o:—

WE have just printed a new tract by D. S. Warner, of nearly 40 pages the size of the Sabbath tract. It is carefully written, and very forcibly shows, the Divine origin, foundation, head, door, membership, organization, holiness, and unity of the Church, and the basis of unity. It also distinguishes between the True Church, and all sects. Shows the evil of Schisms, and proves the perfection and practicability of the Church, as founded by Christ, and set forth in the New Testament, without any man-made machinery, creeds, systems and manipulations. It refutes the falsehood that we have to be a sect, and nails every thing down to the Word.

Would to God that we could send it free every where. But it costs paper, ink, mailing expense etc. But we put it down just as cheap as we can, to cover expenses, and what we may give to the poor who cannot pay.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD

—:o:—

Windsor, Mo., Oct. 30, ’89.

THE Galesburg, Kan. camp-meeting was a glorious victory. Bro. E. F. Houghton, and saints from Chanute, brought the tabernacle and pitched it right in the midst of the village. Three empty buildings near by were procured as camping quarters for the saints; while our company were kindly cared for in the house of Dr. Bryant, whose wife is gloriously saved, and he is an ardent lover, of the good cause. God bless and reward them. This place was only visited by the Gospel of holiness last spring through Bro. Achor, and a good work was begun. There were a good many dear saints came from several localities, some by private conveyances over a hundred miles; and all the dear holy people were refreshed, strengthened, and settled down in the Lord. Some who had lost their hold on Christ, began at the bottom and were both justified and afterward sanctified wholly. Several-poor sinners were saved out of this dark world, and about all went on to perfection. Dear Bro. Mecum, who had been saved and called to work for God, and who had made the foolish experiment of following certain rebellious desires, which Were the suggestions of the adversary, and had consequently lost salvation, and suffered much in body and soul, with his companion returned to God, and were restored and fully saved. And having landed on dry ground once more, after a terrible Jonah voyage in the stormy deep, he consecrated, to go right down to Ninevah, Sodom and Gomorrah, and deliver God’s message. We hope he has gone before this time, and believe that God will make him mighty through the Spirit, in this great and last campaign for God. Also dear Bro. Sickles, who had taken shipment for Joppa, and had been swallowed up in the great deep, and unheard of for about a year, came to the meeting, confessed his stormy disastrous voyage of disobedience, and humbly sought God, and took the yoke of Christ upon him. May God give him faith to go and work for him, and we doubt not when he goes he will be healed, if not already delivered from his chastisement. O that men would learn to know that whatsoever the righteous doeth shall prosper, but “disobedience is as the sin of witchcraft,” and the ways thereof are the ways of death God bless and use Bro. Sickles. We hope to hear from him in the work, and in the triumphs of an overcomer.

We were disappointed in not having the privilege of meeting Bro Cary at this meeting. But thank God for the coming of Bro. Achor, who wrought with us in the Gospel, and who brought us good tidings right from the Trumpet Office, that all were well, and the work of God was moving on gloriously. Many thousand free tracts have been recently issued in the name of the Lord. The wire stitcher finds them with great speed. Praise the Lord!

The Galesburg meeting was a great blessing to the cause of Bible holiness in Kansas. May the fire kindled there burn and spread in every direction. Some healing was wrought by the power of God, as is very common at all meetings of the saints. Four saints were buried with Christ in baptism. We also had a precious communion service, near the close of the meeting, at which about 60 or 70 saints were present. We had many calls in Kansas, but could not respond to them. Bro. Achor feels somewhat drawn to return to Ind. Trust God will send others to Kan. May the Lord keep His Church free there, and abundantly increase the same with the increase of God. Amen!

THE CARTHAGE MEETING.

Though it had been announced as a camp-meeting by us, it was found most practical to simply hold a tabernacle meeting. Bro. E. H. Houghton with tabernacle came over from Kansas, and we pitched in a pleasant park at the edge of the town. Bro. Lundy, and Bro. James Montgomery, who are clear in the truth and Spirit of God, were at the meeting and labored in the Lord; also the Lord blessed Bro. Houghton, who is advancing much in the knowledge and deliverance of the Word of God. Upon the whole, the meeting was the least fruitful of any on our western tour. This place has been blasted with crooked mixed, and divided stuff falsely called holiness, of the (no) “Good Way” kind. Many of the teachers are “wandering stars to whom is reserved the mists of darkness.” Very few of them are in harmony; some anti-ordinance, some half anti’s, and none of them in the clear light of God’s present truth. Some who agree in doctrine, are jealous of, and oppose each other, and the whole thing is far beneath the Bible standard. The cause has also suffered from another source. Hence the people are prejudiced, and hardened, and it would take one generation to remove, the obstructions of the Gospel out of their hearts. Some of those teachers came to the meeting a few times, and clearly showed the jealousy of their unsanctified hearts. One of them a poor deceived bigot came when we met to solemnly commemorate the humility, death and suffering of the Son of God, did not kneel when prayer was being offered, but inspired by a grating and pernicious spirit, arose and emptied the unclean contents of his heart, in a confused harangue of opinions and evil surmisings, which clearly evinced to all true children of God that the poor soul was groping in the dark fogs of babylon. His sickening plea for opinions, coupled with an acknowledgement that possibly his own opinions were wrong, positively proved that he was destitute of the real knowledge of the truth, that he only speaks of the Pharisees and not as one having authority. No gentleman, let alone that gentleman imparted by the grace of God, would come into a meeting, assembled for the sacred worship of God, and try to raise a confusion, and grieve the Holy Spirit of God, when he had to confess that his ranting was only based on opinions and surmisings, which he did not know were right or not. Men of God do not do such work. If they know nothing they have sense enough to keep their mouths shut. But when God shows them that any person or persons are of the devil, and puts it on them to rebuke, they do not uncork an offensive mess of opinions, surmisings and insinuations, and fill the place with the stench of contention. But they know they are of God themselves, and know the parties they rebuke are of the devil, or crooked and they deliver God’s message with authority, saying right out what God wants them to say, and not basely and cowardly sputtering at what they surmise out of their own corrupt hearts, but dare not say. Thank God! this mess of slanting effrontery was over-ruled to show some souls that there is only one land of holiness, and hearts that are filled with jealousy and crookedness, are certainly unholy, and we can have no fellowship with them. When through, the poor man was about to leave immediately, but being requested to stop a few moments and have a little good advice; he did so. After prayer and singing, the obnoxious influences departed from the pavillion, and we had a glorious communion meeting. O the precious presence of Christ, as we followed His example, and surrounded His sacred cross.

A very few souls were saved during the meeting, and about all the little ones were advanced, strengthened, and built up in Christ. Some were healed of various afflictions, and the line was more clearly drawn between the pure gold and the dross. There were five buried with Christ in baptism. God bless His little Church in Carthage. He has some precious little ones there whom we never shall forget.

From Carthage we came, Oct. 29, to Windsor, Mo.; and we are now lodging in the house of mother Cole. Bro. J. Cole and sister Mary are here, and sister Lodema Caser and others who brought them; and we have began a meeting in a good little house of worship, and expect to see the salvation of souls. God has a few true witness here. Pray for the work of the Lord. From here we expect to go to Opolis,.. the Kansas line, next to Carl Junction, Mo. From thence to Pierce City. Mo., and possibly next to Green, Wright, and Howell Go’s., and very likely finish our present tour along the south side of Mo. Amen!

Dear Trumpet readers and all the holy Brethren: — Grace and truth be multiplied unto you all. I am justified, sanctified, and kept by the mighty power of God. Glory to His name! for the wonderful Holy Spirit which leads us into all truth.

On Oct. 25, I was led of the Lord to meet with the Church at Hamilton, and there also met Bro. and sister Sharpnack, and sisters McCormack and Drury, who were co-workers with us in delivering the blessed Word to the people. There were two consecrations for pardon, We then came to this place where God was with us in mighty power in the work of cleansing the sanctuary. It tries a person’s loyalty to God to be a true soldier for Him. We can-not hold any person in admiration; if we do, God can-not use us in keeping His house clean and in casting out all things, that defile. The pure Word must be used and nothing short of it will do. And it teaches us to keep ourselves unspotted from the world, and free from babylon. Meeting closed Nov. 6th with victory in our souls. The Church is in glorious working order. There were a number of souls saved and made to rejoice in the Lord. I want to say to all who have come out of babylon; stay out, if you value your soul. You may think you can return and give them light; but just as sure as you try it, you will become polluted and drink of her anti-Christ spirit, and become entangled again and lose the peace of God out of your soul, because she is fallen, fallen, and become the habitation of devils. I know whereof I speak, for I was saved from the confusion of the sects, and had such great sympathy for my brethren back in babylon, that I thought I must: go to their meetings and tell them what the Lord had done for me; but they had no love for holiness, and I had to compromise with them, and thereby drank of their spirit which is anti-christ, and was thus brought under condemnation. Then I found myself floundering in their trap. I had to return and do my first works, and forsake babylon and the world and all its allurements; then Jesus took me and sent me out to preach the everlasting Gospel. Those in babylon who are honest, hear the voice of God, and come out and are washed and cleansed from all their sins, and are made to see eye to eye; and are of the same mind and of the same judgment, and all speak the same thing, because they have been baptized into the one Spirit, and now see clearly and are walking in every ray of light that falls upon their pathway. Your Bro in Christ.

Edgar Springs, Mo., Nov. 1, ’89.

Dearly Beloved Saints: — This morning finds us sweetly saved, and praising God for the wonderful power bestowed upon His little ones that obey Him. Our souls are wonderfully rejoicing in the pure love of God which is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

It has been a long time since I have visited the columns of the G. T., but I praise the Lord for His dealings with me, and at last He has accomplished His will concerning me, and I feel I am in the order of the Lord. The shore lines are cut, and the Lord has shoved me out in the Ocean of His infinite will.

You have seen by the News in the G. T., from St James, that our little company, consisting of Nannie M. Donnell, Wm. E Fowler, L. J. Taylor, and myself, started from that place to labor in new fields. Well the Lord surely has verified His promise, for He has gone, before us. Dear Bro Myers kindly offered his service, and taking his team conveyed us to our first place of meeting, and as we were passing through the village of Edgar Springs on Sunday morning the people some way knew who we were and came out and stopped us and desired us to stay with them and have meeting in the afternoon and evening so we felt moved of the Lord to stop, as we had to run the risk of getting out an appointment for that evening where we were going. The people were gathering for meeting, and we went over to give out our appointments, and had the privilege of listening to a young Baptist preacher laboring very hard to prove that his sect was the Church of God, and of course, making a complete failure; so that afternoon we showed the people that the Scripture said: “This is the will of God, even your sanctification,” and in the evening we gave them the Scripture on the true Church of God. The house was crowded, we had good order, and the people were well pleased with the truth, and all seem-

Page 3

ed anxious we should return. So we left on the morrow with a promise that we would return as soon as the Lord willed. We then went to Beaver Greek and held meeting in a deserted Campbellite Meeting-house. We had a grand meeting at that place, many were made to confess that they had no salvation, and gave up their empty profession. There were a few consecrations, and some gloriously saved. We look for a good work to be done here in the near future. We only continued this meeting ten days; then we returned to Edgar Springs, where we commenced meeting, and. the Lord has been with us in mighty power at this place; heretics gnawed their tongues for pain, and the men of war were affrighted. Some sectarians were convinced of the truth of the Bible on the straight Church, and have left their sects, and some have consecrated themselves to God. Sinners generally have become valiant for the truth, and can be seen standing on the streets and in stores preaching to sectarians to “come out of her my people.” The sinners have been very kind to us. One man a merchant of this place and a sinner, who has never made any profession, (but disgusted with sects) has been very kind to us. He sent his team to bring us to this place, and has given us (i. e., sister Nannie and I) a home ever since we have been here; the brethren have found a home with the doctor of this place. He is also very much interested, and has been a supporter of the meeting, and stands for the truth, and I pray God to save their precious souls. Up to this time there has been about seven consecrations, nearly all of whom have a clear experience: and still the battle is going on. Some of the sectarians of this place sent for their presiding elder to come and put his foot on this mushroom as he called it, and he came in all his pomp. No doubt he thought it would not take long to put his foot on a couple women, and two boys, but he soon found it was not the women and boys that he had to fight against, but the mighty God that was in them. He was utterly confounded and his mouth shut. He came to our meetings and took notes and then got up and undertook to wipe us out, but all the time he was putting a sword in our hand to slay himself. The first remark he made was that he was a methodist, died in the wool, and that he was sent out by his church, and supported; and was on a broad gauge, and he said the methodists preached holiness before us, or our Church was thought of. But we soon showed him that the way to heaven was a narrow way and we also showed him that the Church we belonged to preached holiness over 1700 years before his church was thought of. Another objection he made was that the Church of God was not a visible organization. We then showed him when, and how the Church was organized, and of what it was composed, and that God had given us all things that pertained to life and godliness, and that He did not leave it to methodism to give us a visible Church. Nearly the whole congregation took sides with the truth, except a few Methodists, and they and their preacher went away willing to keep still, and the victory was on the Lord’s side.

Dear Saints: — I feel led of Lord to speak His praise. Praise God for what He is doing for me. We have heard the call time and again for some one to come to this place to preach the Gospel. After hearing the third call, and no response, I went to the Lord in prayer, and He bid me go, and in the name of Jesus I went, and arrived here on Saturday night, and preached two sermons on Sunday. We have had good meetings at Billings. Some who had known the way of salvation, and had wandered away, returned, while others came out of the world of darkness and sin to partake of the divine favor and salvation of God. We labored in Billings and in Hope about 5 weeks. Much good was accomplished in bringing souls together to worship the Lord. Several were converted and some buried with Christ in a watery grave. I am now at Bently, Bay Co., Mich. We have held three meetings here in the name of Jesus. Very good interest has been manifested so far. We find great need of a revival here, and ask the prayers of all the saints that the Lord may bless our efforts. There has been no preacher to labor with me since I have been in this part of God’s heritage. There is a large field here for laborers, but as duty calls me to return to my family in Ill., I will go as soon as it is His will to open the way. I feel that the way is now open for some Holy Ghost baptized minister to come and preach the everlasting Gospel of Christ to the people here. This is my first trip in the work, and I feel thankful to God that He has called me, and given me a heart to do His righteous will. I thank and praise His holy name for what He is doing for me day by day; He is keeping me sweetly saved and sanctified. Oh praise God! I ever want to be found at my post of duty doing His will in all things. Your Bro. in Christ.

Dear Brethren: — There were several consecrations at the Cloverdale Meeting. We were glad to meet dear Bro. Michels and family, whom the Lord used to His glory. On Oct 28 we met at the lake and four dear saints were baptized. In the evening we observed the ordinances, which was a blessed time of rejoicing. The next meeting was at Cedar Creek, where one sister was sanctified, and many others endorsed the truth. We were all made hapdy by the coming of Bro. Cushman, from Marshall, also Sister Thomas and daughter from Battle Creek. There were also a number of saints from other places. Next, we came to this place, and the Lord sent Bro. and Sister Morrill, and Bro. and Sister Wright to help in the work here. Bro and sister Wright will labor with us this winter, the Lord willing.

Pray much for us that we be kept humble and be used of God in the salvation of many souls.

Your sanctified brother.

Dearly Beloved Saints of the Most High Greeting: — Our testimony this morning is that we are gloriously saved, filled with the Spirit of triumph over all the hosts of satan and powers of hell. Amen! Hallelujah to Jesus for victory over the beast and his mark, and over his name!

Meeting closed Sunday evening. Three followed the Lord Jesus down into the watery grave, and came forth shouting to the world that they were dead to it, and their life was hid with Christ in God. Several others are to be baptized soon. We had three services Lord’s day. The ordinances of feet washing and Lord’s supper were observed; also a consecration service held and several consecrations for entire sanctification. Hallelujah! O what hallowed glory accompanied the washing of the saints feet, and the partaking the emblems of our crucified Lord. The room was quite large but crowded with people. No doubt a great many came thinking it would be great sport. But the precious Lord filled the house with his train. — Isa. 6:1. And satan was held in check, and no doubt many hearts did quake and tremble; and some took a very decided stand with the Lord. It seemed to us to be the best meeting we ever enjoyed. Some were sorry to have the meeting close; but we felt it was in the order of the Lord. The Lord made choice of an elder and deacon, who were ordained for the work. Bro. Nathan Barham for elder, and Bro. O. V. Curtis for deacon; which was confirmed by the laying on of hands of the elders. May the Lord ever bless and greatly prosper His Church in this place. Amen! We go from here to Woodston, Rooks Co., Kan., about sixty miles south east of here, to set the battle in array. From there we expect to go to Meriden, Kan., not far from Topeka. We thank the dear saints for their many prayers in our behalf. Still pray on and we will by the help of God keep up the fight till the end. Hallelujah! The Lord is wonderfully blessing and keeping our dear Bro. and fellow laborer in the Gospel, J. W. Daugherty, and my dear companion also. Grace mercy and peace be with you all. Amen!

Rolla, Mo., Nov. 3, ’89.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — We are so glad to tell you this morning that the work of the Lord stall moves on. During the meeting at Rolla Mo. a number of dear precious souls have been made free in the Lord, but as in most places, a few started for God, who were not decided enough to go through, We do not believe we were ever in a place where the powers of hell were so arrayed against the people of God as at this place. When one would decide to serve God at all cost, all the fiendish spirits that could possibly be arrayed together, would put their influence against that soul. But amidst it all, God was able to quell the powers of hell, and save a few souls, sect babylon was much shaken. Holiness has come here to stay; God has a few people here who we believe will be true. The Lord keep the dear lambs of the fold.

Three nights ago we moved the meeting to Bro. Light’s house, where we have had a very precious time, and have seen two dear souls saved. Yesterday a multitude of people gathered on the banks of the river where 5 precious souls were buried with Christ in baptism, which was witnessed to by the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven. Hallelujah to God forever and ever! We feel that the meeting at Rolla and here has been a success from first to last; and O how the glory has filled our souls while telling the people the precious truths of God every day and night. Last night we observed the ordinances of God’s house in which 20 dear souls took part. As the glory of God came, wave after wave into our souls, we were made to say: this is unspeakable. O glory hallelujah, it fills my soul with glory just to think of it. “If ye know these things happy are ye if ye do them.” And we were never more happy in our lives than while doing them. Blessed be the name of the Lord! We leave the dear ones here whom we love so dearly in the Lord, all filled with holy fire. We pray God to keep them front falling. We expect to go to another field of labor tomorrow. The Lord is with us every day and night. Surely God is good to His children. We all send much love. Pray for us. Your sister sanctified and kept.

Dearly Beloved Brethren: — Grace, mercy, love, truth, and peace be multiplied unto you all, After our last report from Table Rock, Neb; there were four dear saints buried with Christ in baptism. We remained a few days after meeting closed, and were with the saints at their prayer meeting on Wednesday night, and had a good meeting. The Lord was with us in mighty saving power. One dear old man repented of his sins, and consecrated for Holiness. On Saturday we took leave of the dear saints, and came on our way to Centralia. Kan. 40 miles south of Table Rock, and there remained one week, holding-meeting in a private house, with victory. One dear soul repented of her sins, and was gloriously pardoned and and afterwards sanctified wholly, and filled, with the glory of the Lord. Oh hallelujah! From there we came to Huron 50 miles south east, in Atchison Co. where we found some hungry souls waiting to hear the truth. We had meeting one week in an M. E. house. Two have been converted, and 3 sanctified. Last night they closed the synagogue against us, arid the people opened the the school-house for us. Hallelujah! The work goes on in spite of the devil; pray for us dear saints. I remain your free Bro. in the holy war, with fire, and glory in my soul. Hallelujah!

Dear Saints: — I praise God for salvation in my soul that saves me from all sin. And gives me victory in my soul all the time, over all sin and every thing that is not of God. I have sweet peace in my soul that flows like a river. I realize that I am under the cleansing wave just now, and the blood of Jesus washes me whiter than snow. Hallelujah! Dear Trumpet Readers: — I feel led of the Holy Spirit to write my testimony Praise God forever and ever, that I am saved just now by two distinct works of grace, and have perfect peace in my soul. It has only been about three months since I gave my body a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto the Lord. Oh what perfect peace in believing. Praise God for His Word and for the lending of His holy spirit. Your Bro. in Christ.

Dear TRUMPET: — I wish to let the readers know, that away out here in the western part of Texas, there is a little band, that has heard the call: Come out of her my people. A few have obeyed the call, and are struggling along; but are like sheep having no shepherd. There is not one sanctified soul in this place. Brothers and sisters in Christ, pray for the Lord of the harvest to send some fire baptized soul out in this part of His vineyard; for the harvest is white, but the laborers are few. Myself and husband and two others are consecrated to the Lord. The Methodist sect, are in an uneasy state in this country, but they cannot leave the world and its ways of pride. Babylon is strong here. We ask the prayers of all God’s little ones, that His blessings may be poured out upon us. Come over and help us. I hope the TRUMPET may prove a blessing to others as it has to me. Your justified Bro. and sister in Christ.

Dear Brethren: — I feel led of the Lord to tell what He has done for me, and is still doing Praise the Lord! I am saved just now by a second work of grace. I do praise God for free salvation, and pure holiness. I know by His Spirit, that I have been redeemed by the precious blood of the Lamb. I am dead to the world and its pleasures. The trifling things of this world are of little worth, compared with the blessed salvation that Jesus sheds in our hearts. Praise the Lord forever! I am walking in the light, as He is in the light. The Lord has cleansed me from tea and coffee, and has healed me of all my affliction, and I give Him all the glory. I have no dear saints to meet with here, and my prayer is that God may send some of them here to preach the true evening light of the glorious Gospel of our Lord and Saviour. May God bless you all. Amen! Your sister saved from all sin.

Dearly Beloved Saints: — I feel that it would be to the honor and glory of God to write my testimony to tell what God has done for me. Last March God for Christ’s sake pardoned all my sins, and made me a new creature in Christ Jesus. Two weeks later He sanctified me wholly to do His will in all things. Praise His holy name! The first day of April I was baptized at Humboldt in the Neosha river by Bro. G. R. Achor, who was holding meeting at that time in our neighborhood. Since that time I have been living for Jesus, although the devil has tempted, and sometimes very sorely tried me. I still stand firm for Jesus, and always find a way of escape. I do know to-day that my feet are firmly placed on that solid “Rock” Christ Jesus. I praise God that He has shed this beautiful evening light on my pathway, and by His grace I intend to follow Jesus. Oh I can never praise God enough for what He has done for me. I praise God for the healing power. I have been healed of the ague twice. The first time I was healed, I did not give God enough glory, and the disease was brought back again. But now I am going to tell wherever I am, and wherever I go, that the Lord did heal me after having the chills for a little over eighteen months I tried a great many medicines; none of which had any effect on me. Praise the Lord! I am wonderfully saved just now Pray for me that I may be kept low down at the feet of Jesus.

Dear Saints: — The Lord bless you all is my daily prayer. I praise God this evening for salvation. The Lord keeps me every day of my life, Praise His name! There are no saints here that I can meet with. The advents here are dead, twice dead, plucked up by roots. I praise the Lord that I am delivered from all such bondage. I praise the Lord that I am out of adventism, and adventism is out of me. I stand on the solid rock Christ Jesus, the chief corner stone. I live 2 1/2 miles from White Cloud direct north. And if any of the dear saints come this way, I would be so glad to have them come and see me. Dear saints pray for me, that the Lord may keep me humble at His feet.

Gospel Trumpet Readers: — May the Lord wonderfully fill you with all wisdom and understanding. I want to glorify the Lord with my testimony. Praise His name forever! I am praising God for the sweet peace and the glorious victory in my soul. I am saved from all sin and sacntified wholly through the blood of Jesus, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but by His grace. He saves us by the washing of regeneration, and the renewing of the Holy Ghost. Oh, I do praise God for His convicting, converting, santifying and healing power. Amen!

GONE TO REST.

Dear Brother Davidson, of Olivet, Eaton Co.. Mich., departed this life Sept. 6, 1889, aged 42 years, 4 months, and 4 days. This dear Bro. seemed very dear to our hearts for a long time before he died. He took the Word of God for the man of his counsel, and the Holy Ghost the Comforter, for his guide, and his portion. He has never belonged to any religious sect; he did not believe them to he of God. He has departed this life, and gone to live with Jesus. Often he would say to his dear companion that his stay with them was short. He thought the Lord had got through with him in this world. He died in f… faith; said “The will of the Lord be done.” Bro. Davidson had Lands laid on for his healing twice; he said if the Lord did not see fit to heal him, His will be done. He would often praise God in his sickness, and wish to go. He leaves a wife and four children to mourn his loss. Their loss is his gain,

Elizabeth Hattie,

Go to thy rest in peace, dear brother,
And softly be thy repose.
Thy toils are over, thy troubles cease,
From earthly care in sweet release,
Thine eyelids gently close,

Go to thy rest in peace, dear brother,
For thee we need not weep,
Since thou art now among the blessed,
No more by sin and sorrow pressed,
Thy bliss is now complete,

Go to thy rest in peace, dear brother,
Thy absence we deplore.
One thought our sorrow shall beguile,
For soon with a celestial smile,
We’II meet to part no more.

WILL IT PAY?

—:o:—

After nearly nineteen hundred years of conflict and endurance, in the midst of myriads of fierce enemies, hostile forces of hell on earth, through which the kingdom of heaven has proved its Divinity, and that it will stand forever, is it possible that very few men on earth, yea but few of those who claim to be friends and subjects of the great empire of light and love, actually think it profitable or safe, to invest a little in the heavenly enterprise. The world lies in darkness. The awful end is nigh, the judgment will seal the destiny of all men. The light of the glorious gospel has shined unto us, the only remedy for sin, and can we now plow and reap, and market the product of God’s blessing upon us and our land, or rather upon His own footstool, and then set our eyes all earthward, to speculate, buy, sell and get gain, and let the world go to hell, around us? Let the many honest souls who would know the saving truth perish without it? O God! Our heart sickens at the sight. When will men act as though they believed the Bible. As though Christ was no fraud? His offered rewards worthy our confidence? A man is out debt and his farm yields him $600 more or less as the case may be, clear income over and above the support of his family and all his expenses. Now what will he do with it? We answer that he will invest it in whatever his faith is most sanguine. If he believes that hogs will pay best, he will use most of his money in the purchase of swine. If he thinks that sheep, cattle or horses, promises the most income he will invest accordingly; or if his faith sees a flattering prospect in lands and houses, he will seize upon the opportunity. But should he believe — which searcely anyone seems to do — that Christ will really do as He says, namely: reward us a hundred fold in this life, and in the world to come, for all we invest in His kingdom, he will surely act accordingly. No person who greedily invests his money in earthly projects, and neglect the Gospel of Christ, need tell me he fully believes the Word of God. For a real faith will always produce coresponding actions. And how do you think you will feel when you meet Christ in the day of judgment, if your life clearly proves that you do not credit His Word, and act upon the same? Will you have a good foundation to stand upon? Behold these words will answer the question.

“Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.” — 1 Tim. 6:17-19 The man who is blessed with, plenty of this worlds goods, and does but little for the cause of Christ, and the relief of the poor, and yet thinks he is on a good foundation, is surely deceived, or the Word of God is not true. O it is awful! awful!! We do know of many warm hearts that really believe the words of Christ, that “whatsoever good thing a man doeth, the same will he receive of the Lord.” Such are “ready to distribute, willing to communicate,’’ (give) but they are about all poor, and have but little to give besides their prayers, and tears, and pure desires, which are very acceptable to God, but still leave souls perishing for the want of means that are in the hands of such as have far more faith in most any other enterprise than in the great scheme of salvation. “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above.” How is this? You claim to be risen with Christ, and yet with your means only seek the things that are below; the earthly? Many imagine they can seek the things that are above by their Sabbath religious services, and seek the things of earth by six days zealous labor and traffic. O dear friend your heart is a kingdom divided against itself, in which the earth holds six sevenths, and heaven but one seventh. And you are six times more earthly than spiritual. This however is not the case with the person who-labored with his hands six days out of seven, but does it according to the Bible order, namely, “whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all to the glory of God.” Namely; for the promotion of the cause of Christ on earth. By so doing men “lay up treasures in heaven where thieves cannot break through and steal.” This is positively commanded of Christ. Who also says, “lay not up for yourselves treasures on earth where moth and rust doth corrupt and where thieves break through and steal.” And yet about every body disregards the counsel of Christ. Again we ask, are you laying up a good foundation to stand upon in the day of judgment, when you do contrary to the commandments of Christ? What answer could you give in the day of judgment if the question was asked, “have you done what you could to gather with Christ, by devoting your means to spread the true Gospel.” Between 30,000 and 40,000, sixteen and thirtytwo page tracts have been published within a few weeks, at the TRUMPET OFFICE at an actual cost of $175. And there has been only a little over $30. donated toward this expense. Of which $30. was sent by one man. The same also gave $100. toward the wire stitcher. That man has not even a house and lot of his own, supports family and pays rent, and works with his hands without even trade. O ye that are blessed with fruitful fields and flocks, and yet do nothing for the cause of Christ, will not this Bro., or other poor saints who deny themselves of the necessities of life to give a little to send the bread of life to the starving, we ask in all Godly candor, will not these condemn you in the day of judgment? Some would perhaps like to hide behind the charge that means given for such purposes have not always been properly used. But there is no chance for you to thus hide from your duty. All money sent in to us is used just as directed, which our books show, and anyone can have the liberty of examining them at any time. The work is actually being carried on. Many thousand free tracts have been printed, and they are going out daily by the hundreds and scores. The wire stitcher is actually at work in the office. Bro. Byrum wrote us as follows, “yesterday we stitched over ten thousand bracts; it is like a bee hide when all the machinery is running.” So you see the the work is going on, and we are all praying to God day and night for means to pay those paper bills, and other costs, and we believe He will find some one to help on the work. Whatever heart He is compelled to pass by, will suffer in leanness, but “the liberal soul shall He make fat.” ’’The liberal soul deviseth liberal things, and by liberal things shall he stand.” While many who fall into darkness and despair ,will find that their fall was the fruits of their covetous withholding. “For there is giving that enricheth, and there is a withholding more than is meet which tendeth to poverty.”

Last spring when a few ungodly sinners led by a base priest of Baal, sued in court, and through satanic and Masonic rule, took the house of worship from the Church of God at a certain place in Ind., we attended the trial. The morning before the close of the trial, while on our knees in prayer to God, for His hand to over-rule the wicked powers that were linked together against justice and right, with the assurance that He could do so if He would, we felt the answer from Heaven that our request could not be granted, and the impression immediately followed, that the saints are so far from the apostolic standard of consecration of means, that He could not consistently protect their property, lest this might be taken as an indication that they fully pleased Him in the use of their increase. So over a hundred dollars, we believe, were forfeited in expenses, and the house will probably call for several hundred more to build another. Now we believe God loves those saints, and many of them have helped the cause on by their means, but in the light of the New Testament it must still be admitted that the Church of the first born needs to advance and deepen their consecration, and greatly enlarge their faith in Christ, in the matter of using the means which God has made them steward over. No person can say we are seeking your money for us. We are out in the field ourself laboring more constantly, both in preaching and writing, than few men on earth are devoted. And we pay more of our own own means, obtained by the sale of books, etc., for our support, than most any one. That is we pay more for the privilege of preaching the Gospel than others do for the Gospel. In fact all our income from every source, is used in publishing salvation. And if God requires us to give all we get to the support of the Gospel; and preach it with all our might at the same time, does He not require you to give at least a portion, of your income while you are staying at home, and enjoying your families, and home comforts? In fact, last spring when we reached home, we found ourself $23. in debt to the office, having, used all the means we had collected for Trumpet Sub’s, and everything else. Were it not for the donation of a saint that had not been blessed with the privilege of the Gospel ministry, we do not know how we should have been able to square up. As we started on this tour we asked God that we might be able to keep out of debt, and afterward we were convicted that we should have out; wants supplied without using the proceeds of our book sales, we should have to apply on our debts. So we are often pressed on every side, but not discouraged. O that men and women would begin, from this time forth to glorify God with their means “As a man thinketh so is he.” If his sluggish unbelief thinks it will take all the fruits of his toil to support his family, so it will be, and perchance he will be drifting into debt besides. But if his faith deviseth liberal things, and he expects to use but a small portion to live on, and the rest to be used for God, he will find the blessing of God will more than meet his expectations. O prove God and see if He will not open the windows of heaven, and send blessings upon your soul, and upon your crops.

Now dear saints, will you consider this? Will you carelessly go on, trying to accumulate and lay up treasures on earth, and leave a few willing and obedient, to bear the burden alone? The devil makes many of you think you are not able now, but will do something after a while. God help you to cast his lies behind you. Go right to work, what your hands find to do. If you are needing in the future, give what you have to-day, and you will have more in the future, than if you dishonored God by withholding. Two whole-soul sisters in Kan. are called to work in the office; well fitted for the work. One at least, is much needed at once, but the office has not the means to send for her. We feel moved to ask the saints in the west here to help her there. Send to us, or to the office. O let us serve the Lord with one shoulder, bearing one anothers burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. O start the habit of giving as the Lord prospers you, and begin now. Amen!

You will find that it will pay. If you are really dead to this world, and believe the word’s of Christ, give as you really should, all that God gives you over and above your family needs, you will feel the windows of heaven open to you, and all that you do will prosper; but if you rob God of tithes and offerings, the curse of the Almighty will be upon your fields, and the plague upon your stock. O beloved it does not take many minutes for a valuable horse to lay down and die, or some financial reverse to sweep away five times the amount that would have been a sweet smelling savour unto God, and procured His blessing upon your soul and body, and on your fields. Who will begin now? Amen!

Dear Saints: — I write my testimony this morning to the glory God, to tell you all that I have this great salvation. Praise God, He is leading me out into the deep waters of His love. My daily prayer is that I may be kept low down at His feet, ever learning of Him. God has been teaching me some grand lessons in the last few weeks. Although we have a great many things to contend with, but God says in His Word, He will not let us be tempted more than we are able to bear. I was in the sect for about four years, and walked in all the light God gave me, and when I heard His voice say: “Come out of her my people that ye be not partakers of her sins and receive not of her plagues, I obeyed the call and came out on the straight way. Oh I praise God for the willing heart He has given me. Ever willing to learn no matter where it comes from only so it comes from God, I used to think I enjoyed a good deal of the love of God, but praise God, I have launched far out into the ocean of love. My whole delight is to do the will of my heavenly Father. Praise God! we have the whole armor on, so that all the fiery darts of the wicked one, cannot hurt us. Pray for me that I may ever be kept humble at the feet of Jesus. Your sister in Cerist.

Dearly Beloved Saints: — I feel like praising God to-night for a full and free salvation. I am saved by grace through faith in Jesus saving power, and kept from sin in trial and temptation. And my one desire is to know and be conformed to God’s will. Oh the darkness that seems to oppress souls here in ignorance, vice, cold formality and morality “having a form of Godliness but denying the power thereof.” It is very grievious to any real earnest soul that has had even one gleam of the true light, to behold the careless, cold indifference of lukewarm professors of sectdom on all sides. Whose first question is always — “To what church do you belong? God help us to belong to Christ alone. He only can save. Oh praise God for freedom in the Lord! Oh dear ones are there any in the east, to spare from the field, who are willing to toil among the dying souls of the neglected west. There are some who are trying to stand true in this country, but they are so widely scattered, and so few, that they have no opportunities of meeting in the freedom of the Spirit. Our only chance of meeting is once in a great while, with some sect; which gives no strong spiritual food, and those who can bear strong meat and earnestly hunger after it, are starving for spiritual food. It looks as if we cannot help being frozen out by the cold churchdom and unbelief of professors. O God send a Holy fire-baptized minister of the Word out here to feed thy hungry sheep, and the weak lambs, and to awaken the dead to righteousness.

Dearly beloved in the Lord, who are saved by grace, and who know your acceptance in the one body of Christ, who have faith, and power with God, I humbly ask your prayers in behalf of this sin cursed comer of N. E. Washington. The R. R. has just been completed through this place, and saloons, ignorance, lust, vice, and scenes of horror, filth and indifference hold full sway. A few of us are trying to create an interest in prayer-meeting. We meet in a brother’s store-building; but with discouraging success. Oh pray for us mightily, and if God puts it upon anyone to come here, may God bless and prosper them in the undertaking, and strengthen them mightily for the work. The self- denial, the suffering and all. I am poor, but such as I have, is at the disposal of God. Both I and my belongings are all His. Your Bro. in Christ.

Dear Brethren: — We feel led by the Spirit to send in our testimony for God. We can truly say we are saved in Jesus. We had a glorious meeting at father Spray’s commencing Saturday the 21st, continuing over Sabbath. God was with us in wonderful power. 4 consecrated on Saturday night. Two got the victory on the Sabbath, and on Monday two were buried with Christ in baptism. The community is wonderfully stirred. Pray for us. Your Bro. and sister saved, out of babylon and in Christ.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — I wish to glorify God by testifying to His mighty power to save a soul from all sin. Glory be to God! I feel His holy Spirit thrilling my whole soul and body tins very moment. Oh praise God forever and ever! The Lord is teaching me many profitable lessons. I find that as long as we put our full trust in Him, He keeps us perfectly happy and contented; but just as soon as we get our eyes off of Jesus, and begin to trouble ourselves about what others may think of us, or begin to seek strength and comfort from some earthly friend, we begin to feel lean in our soul. Our heart gets heavy, and we feel that God is a thousand miles away, and all our earthly friends have forsaken us, and think all the saints have lost confidence in us, and have turned a cold shoulder on us. Oh what a sight of trouble! But right here let us ask God upon the authority of His blessed Word to rebuke the devil, and see hoy quick the change. Oh glory to God! All is bright. We then see no change in our friends or the saints. Bless the Lord! In every time of trouble I find God is waiting for me to give Him a chance to help me out. He is a God near at hand, and not afar off. All I have to do to keep perfect victory, is to match and pray. Not watch others, and pray to some earthly friend, but watch my own daily walk and conversation, and when the devil tempts me, and tries to get me to turn back and forsake the work God has called me to, I pray; pray to God in the name of Jesus. This is one of the many lessons that I have learnd by experience, and I hope that others may profit by it. Glory to God! I know that I am saved from all sin, and the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses me from all unrighteousness and sanctifies me wholly just now.

Yours under the blood.

To all the saints and faithful brethren in Christ, that in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord: — Grace and peace be multiplied from the Lord Jesus Christ. Glory to God and the Lamb forever and ever! this morning finds me saved from all sin with an everlasting salvation; and fighting against the powers of darkness in this wicked place; which is to the Lord as Sodom and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah. Babylon is fallen indeed in this place. Notwithstanding the devil has sham holiness teachers in this place that are raging out their own shame; they are indeed twice dead and plucked up by the roots; trees whose fruit is withered; raging waters of the sea; wandering stars to whom is reserved the mist of darkness forever. But thank God for a few honest hearts that are willing to receive the truth as it is in Christ Jesus. Praise the Lord O my soul, and all that is within praise His holy name!

Dear Brethren: — We are glad to say that we still enjoy salvation and give God the glory. The Lord is keeping us soul and body. We feel that He is steadily leading and building up His people at this place, and the future looks bright for us; the ministry is also putting in some good work, both here and in surrounding places. Let us pray for each other that we may abide at His coming.

Dear Saints: — I do praise Jesus for this blessed evening light, and that I have found sweet consolation in serving the Lord. I cannot praise Him enough for what He has done for me. He has healed my afflicted body of dropsy and heart disease, and, best of all, He saves my soul and sanctifies my nature, and keeps me all the time. Blessed be His holy name forever and ever!
