O Sinner Come.

—o—

O sinner harken, ere you die,
Your way is dark and sad:
O call upon thy God, He’s nigh,
He’ll save, and make you glad.

O think how long you’ve lived in sin,
That’s made you wretched, poor;
O let the Savior enter in,
And peace to thee restore.

Behold the bleeding side of Christ,
His blood was shed for you:
The gentle, loving Holy Ghost
Is sweetly calling you.

Behold the crown of thorns He wore,
The bleeding of His brow;
Thy sin upon the cross He bore,
The Jews in mock did bow.

Behold Him now upon the cross,
My God! My God! He cried:
He suffered to redeem the lost,
Then bowed His head and died.

The Heavens draped in sable black,
The veil was rent in twain;
This all to bring you, sinner, back
To joy and peace again.

O love Divine, how wonderful!
How manifest and true!
That Christ the Lord was crucified,
All this O man, for you.

Aside He laid His costly robe,
Of glittering gems so bright:
To save you from the awful woe,
Of an eternal night.

He left His Father’s courts on high,
All radiant with His love,
To save, and ransom you and I,
And take us home above.

He bowed the Heavens, and came down
To save immortal souls;
And hear the sin and awful frown,
Of this ungodly world.

He came at first unto His own,
His own received Him not;
But placed on Him the thorny crown,
Arose and cast Him out.

They nailed Him to the rugged cross,
And pierced His tender side,
They did not know their boundles loss.
When turning from the Crucified.

They laid Him in the rocky tomb,
Fulfilling the prophetic word,
And went away to weep and mourn
For Jesus Christ the Lord.

Down came the shining angels bright,
And broke the Roman seal,
Which wicked men and devils placed,
The body to conceal.

With mighty strength they came and rolled
Away the heavy stone;
Down fell the Roman sentinels
As dead upon the ground.

Then Peter, Mary, John and all,
Came early to the tomb;
Were struck with wonder and appall,
To find their Lord was gone.

Their eyes were full of weeping tears,
They rose and went away;
But soon removed their doubts and fears,
They met Him on the way.

He broke the slavish bands of death,
He rose, the Son of God,
In triumph o’er the earth beneath,
Our universal Lord.

Not many days He tarried here,
Ascended He again,
A dwelling to prepare us there,
Where He shall ever reign.

A mansion pure, a holy place,
Is ready now for you,
Salvation full through Heaven’s grace,
Will save you through and through.

Why stand ye gazing after Him?
He’s coming back again
In fire, a mighty burning flame,
In power and glory reign.

“Be ready,” said the blessed Lord,
The hour ye do not know.
When I shall come in mighty power,
The nations overrthrow.

When Gabriel’s mighty trump shall sound,
And shall awake the dead;
That sleeping lay beneath the ground,
You’ll meet that day in dread.

The nations will be gathered then
Before the judgment throne:
And there receive a just reward
For all that they have done.

Some into blest eternal life,
Some into awful woe,
The children, husband, and the wife
Will part to meet no more.

O Hallelujah to our God!
To Jesus Christ the Son,
Who came to fully save us now,
And take ns to that home.

Be ready brother, sister, now:
That glorious day to see,
To dwell with angels round the throne
Through all eternity.

I’m saved! I’m saved! in Christ my Lord,
Built in the Church, First-born,
Kept by the power of my God,
I’m ready for my Home.

TO CHRISTIAN PARENTS.

—:o:—

DEARLY beloved saints of the Most High, may the God of peace bless you abundantly. I have for some time been led to write an article on the subject of the training of children. May God help every soul to see the neglect there is concerning this one thing. The Word says “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Prov. 22:6.

There is a command and a promise, but how many break that command and have sorrow upon sorrow; but as many as keep it have the promise. How will we begin with the child? In the first place teach it strict obedience. As soon as a child begins to say a few words it understands what the mother says. You tell it to get its bonnet and let us go out somewhere, and see if it does not understand. Well if it understands one thing it can another.

Now I want to make it plain; for so many will say “It is so little it don’t know any better:” so you see if it understands one thing it can understand other things. If the children of Christian people grow up wicked, who is to blame? I fear many parents will be surprised when they find out that God has an account against them for the way they have brought up their children. You had better begin to find it out in this world than to be held accountable in the next, and begin now to keep all of God’s commandments. Now let us have God’s Word for it.

He that spares the rod hateth his son, but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.” — Prov. 13:24.

“Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.” — Prov. 19:18.

“Foolishness is born in the heart of a child, but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.” — Prov. 22:15.

“Withhold not correction from the child, for if thou beatest him with a rod he shall not die. Thou shalt beat him with a rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.” — Prov. 23:13, 14.

Just hear the Word of God. But some will say “I don’t believe in whipping a child.” Well, then you do not believe the Bible, The Bible says the rod of correction, it does not mean to whip for fun, or for anger, but when the child will not obey any other way, with all calmness use the rod for the good of the child, and to the glory of God. You must first learn them to obey before they are old enough to understand anything about God. Teach a child to obey at the first command, and go and come at the parents bidding, and you will not find it hard to teach them about God and salvation. As soon as they can understand they will accept it. But let the parents pray at family worship for their children; and tell them much about God and the Bible, and at the same time never learn them to obey, just let them go where they please, in any kind of company, do as they like, read, what they want to, break the Sabbath, dress as the world, and many other things; I tell you there is a poor show for salvation. How can such parents stand clear before God?

Eli seemed to be a good man in every other way, but he restrained not his sons, but let them disobey, and what was the result? Did God excuse him? No, no, He gave him warning at different times, then the sons were killed, then Eli fell backward and broke his neck. O disobedience brings trouble. Read the 3rd chapter of 1st Samuel, and you will see what became of him, and be careful or some of your children will be lost and your soul filled with sorrow. God surely does mean what he says in the Word, “Train up a child in the, way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Some will say, “I will begin to make them obey when they are older. Did you ever see it accomplished? Is it Scripture? Search the Scriptures.

“The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings his mother to shame.” — Prov. 29:15, 17.

Mothers listen to the Word of God, “Correct thy son and he shall give thee rest, yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.” Blessed promise to the soul that obeys God. If ye love me keep my commandments. After obedience, then salvation: for obedience is the first step toward salvation.

“Teach them thy sons, and thy son’s sons; and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.” — Deut. 4:9, 10.

“And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou walkest by the way, and when thou sittest in thy house, and when thou liest down and when thou risest up.” — Deut. 6:7.

In 1st Cor. 10:31, the Word says, “Whether therefore ye eat or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” Can a preacher preach to others and let his own children grow up as they please, to the glory of God? or any other Christian father. Provoke not your children to wrath, but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. — Eph. 6:4.

“Children obey your parents.” — Eph. 6:1. How can a child obey unless they are taught? “A Bishop must be blameless, one that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity: for if a man know not how to rule his own house how shall he take care of the Church of God?” — 1 Tim. 3:2-5.

The Elders must have faithful children, not accused of riot or unruly. — Titus 1:6.

For Jesus’ sake look at these Scriptures. How can the children be so unless the parents teach them, or how does the child become unruly unless the parents let them grow up so? There is too much Scripture, commands and promises, for any child of God to let your children grow up wicked. God’s strength, grace, wisdom, faith and knowledge is sufficient for us in all things that He has commanded us. May the dear Lord for Jesus’ sake help me, and every soul that is a child of God to train up our children in the fear of God, and they will not depart from it when they are old; for God’s Word says so. Praise the Lord for His promises.

Now you that have been neglecting this one point begin at once; for God will not hold you guiltless, you will suffer the consequence just as sure as there is a God: for His Word is sure.

How many times I have had sinners come to me and tell me that such ones ought to train their own children instead of talking to others. How sad and awful, and what a reproach it is. If Christian parents would train their children as God commands us, how many dear precious souls would be in glory, and many more on the road who are eternally lost or living in sin. O how our Savior is grieved at this sad neglect, of the dear souls for whom He suffered and shed His precious blood. And many are lost on account of parents’ careless training, until satan gets full sway, and their hearts become so hard they will not. yield to the convictions of the Spirit. O parents, stop and think: arouse yourselves for Jesus’ sake and your poor children’s souls. Now dear ones do not be too liberal and give this all to your neighbors, but let each one of us take just what belongs to us, it is the Word of God, and belongs to every soul: take it, profit by it, and the Lord will bless you abundantly, yes He will. Glory, honor and praise be to His holy name forever!

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

—:o:—

After our last reported Camp-meeting at Akron, Cowley Co. Kansas, we were brought about 19 miles Eastward to the town of Burden, where we pitched the tabernacle near the residence of Bro. and sister Saunders, whose house was a welcome home for the Lord’s pilgrims. May God bless the dear family, and richly reward their kind labor of love, in supplying the wants of the saints. And I pray God that they may all live in the holy of holies, separate from all anti-christ spirits, hating every false way, having the complete fellowship of the Father, and His Son Jesus Christ, and with all saints. In this place also lives dear Bro. Achor, who has given up the medical profession for the Gospel of Christ, and also a few months ago escaped out of the Wesleyan branch of babylon, and who now rejoices in the blessed evening light; having received the truth when dear Bro. Haner was in these parts last winter. He was brought up very strictly a Quaker, and preached in that sect, but having become convicted of their anti-christ doctrine respecting the commandments of Christ, he was led out of that sect, and not having better light, joined another sect. O praise God for his timely deliverance from babels burnt over and fallen mountain. A few other saints live in and about Burden.

The meeting here began Tuesday night, and closed the following Sabbath evening.

A few souls claimed to find salvation, some pardon, others entire sanctification. Much prejudice was cleared away, many people endorsed the awful truth, and some were convicted, but could not summons righteous will power enough to break I the spell of satan’s chain, and come to God. One soul who was convicted much, has since renounced her sect, consecrated all to God, and received the glorious Sanctifier.

Monday, September 19th, we removed to the town of Atlanta, on a branch of the Frisco R. R. In these parts are a number of dear blessed saints, principally the fruits of dear Bro. Haner’s labors. May God ever bless their loving souls.

We pitched the Lord’s tabernacle at the end of their nice little two year old village, and soon the sweet songs of praise to God in God Spirit had captured the ears of the whole town and surrounding country. As usual, people who are accustomed to hearing the jargon sounds of lifeless sect captives down by the doleful streams of babylon, are carried away with wonder and admiration, when hearing Zion’s holy songs of everlasting joy. O hallelujah to the Lamb! How my soul doth magnify God for those dear fellow workers whose names are in the Book of life. Not only was the music charming to the people, but God also opened their ears to His glorious Gospel. The tabernacle was well filled with attentive hearers. There was great interest manifested in hearing the Word. Though much prejudice existed in this place, the Spirit of the Lord greatly swept it away. The masses received the truth, many even enthusiastically gloried in it. But O how few seem yet in the reach of God’s mercy, in these times of darkness and stupefaction, that are closing up the time of the Gentiles. O what a sad and awful picture this world presents to the eyes of all who see it in the light of God’s present truth. In this very day the voice of prophecy breaks forth in the startling alarm from God’s holy mountain, saying, “The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.” The “Fullness of the Gentiles” that will be saved have come in, and now we are but gleaning a few scattering grains. We have seen poor startled souls bowed at the altar, who declared it was not in their power to pray. By rebuking the powers of hell that bound them, some were enabled to open their mouths in prayer, others could not be induced to make an effert to call on God for mercy. O that every wretched lost soul on the brink of hell would wake out of sleep, and summon all their will power to get to God before too late.

Here a very few fled to Christ, to lay hold upon the fading hope of the Gentile world of sinners. Praise God for their deliverance! We greatly enjoyed the fellowship of these beloved saints, and we trust their bright faces will never be forgotten. God bless them all for their kindness. Doubtless we shall often talk of the abundant supplies of good things that were brought into our little white suburb to supply our table, and satisfy our bodies.

This meeting finished up our Cotton City campaign. The weather is becoming somewhat rough and stormy. We had a rain last Sabbath night that made the water stand in our tents, and wet the skirts of our bed clothes that were toucked under the ticks. Dear Bro. Haner goes from here to Kansas City, where he expects to set up the tabernacle and labor as long as the weather permits its use. Dear Bro. J. Cole and sister Mary, go to Rose Hill, about 26 miles from here, and our little company, all clad in the glory of God, and the armor of Heaven, go about 80 miles to the South-west, to Anthony, Harper Co., where lives dear sister Leah Miller, and her sister Hannah from Tiffin Ohio. There we expect to continue the work in a hall of some kind.

God bless dear Bro’s. Haner and Cole, and sister Mary. We shall ever praise God for the precious campaign we have enjoyed together. May the Lord wonderfully bless their labors. Praise God, they are filled with the mighty power and fire of the Holy Spirit, and full of zeal for the spreading of the precious light. O God bless all His holy ministers, and send forth many more into the field who shall, with all love and humility, and earnest work, win souls for Christ.

For some time we have felt called of God to devote ourself more especially to the great duly of writing some works of present truth, and we expect to do so alter the present tour. With this fact coming oft before our mind, we began, unconsciously, to relax our faith, by which, in our natural frailty, we kept up sufficient strength for field labor. The presence of the ministerial brethren with us for some time, also helped ease up our mind, and drop our shields of faith by our side. The result was the devil had afflicted our poor weak body for several weeks. But praise God, the Lord having, in answer to prayer, shown us what the trouble was, last Sabbath we rebuked the devil in the name of the Lord Jesus, and with a holy vehemence, and asked the Almighty Christ to drive him back to hell and hurry after him his abominable diseases, our soul and body sprang forth with a shout of victory, and glory to our God, we have been wonderfully well, and Spiritually glorious, ever since. Hallelujah to the Lamb!

After the Meeting at Anthony, we expect to go North to Table Rock Neb. and then to some points North of there where we traveled 13 and 14 years ago. After labors in Neb., we expect to go to Denver, Col., and hope to return to our blessed happy haven, Beaver Dam Ind., at least by holidays. We are going in for mighty triumphs on all our line of march. Pray for us. All well and filled with God. Amen!

Daniel.

Weston, O. Sep. 24, ’87.

Dear Brethren, and readers of the Gospel Trumpet: I came to Brushy Prairie, Ind. on the 26th of this month, and opened fire on the enemy in the name of King Jesus. I do praise God this morning for free salvation that saves from all sin. O how wonderfully the Lard is working in this place. Praise the name of Jesus! The saints are in good working order. O how the Lord does fill my soul with victory over the works of the devil. We know that whatsoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself and that wicked one toucheth him not. — 1 John 5:18.

O bless the Lord, He just keeps me from all sin, and gives me that boldness that John tells us about. — John 4:17.

God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. — 1 John 1:5. God is working here to the salvation of souls, and making the crooked straight. The Lord is showing me wonderful things: He is brightening up my gifts, and I can see the workings of the devil. Dear Bro. M. S. Yoder is wonderfully led out in the Spirit of discernment since this meeting begun. One day there were some sick folks called on us to pray for their healing. We went and prayed over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord, and laid on hands, and the Lord raised them up. There was a little child lying on its mother’s lap very sick: he said “I want to be healed too.” We asked the child who would heal him. He said the Lord would: then we anointed him and laid on hands, and

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

—:o:—

Geneva Center, Mich.

To the saints of God scattered abroad, Greeting. The assembly of the saints of God commenced on the 29th of September and continued till Oct. 3rd, with a glorious victory for the Lord all the way through. Quite a number were gloriously saved from all their sins, and some wholly sanctified, and the saints wonderfully strengthened and united in the bond of love and Christian fellowship. O praise God! I feel that the work is moving on for God to the salvation of souls.

Dear Bro. and sister Wm. N. Smith, and Bro’s Palmer and Grover, who are all a host for God, whom the Lord used in preaching His Word in mighty power to the people, which caused sinners to tremble, and believers to search their hearts, and proving themselves whether they were in the faith or not.

Bro. and sister Colby from Portland Mich, were also present, whom we rejoiced to meet face to face. The Lord bless, and lead them continually in this glorious evening light.

Dear Bro. John McIntosh, who has been gloriously saved of God, but refused to obey the call of the Lord in going out to warn sinners to flee from the wrath to come, but refused and ran away from God. and was overthrown into the sea of sin and wickedness: and there in the midst of darkness he saw his lost condition and cried for mercy, and the Lord once more delivered him, and now he is willing to obey the call. All the dear saints of God pray for him that he may now become established and settled in the love of Jesus. And also many others who by looking away from God, fell by the way, were wonderfully restored, and brought back into the fellowship of God and His dear children. When the hearts are melted together in perfect unity, the ungodly cannot stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

While singing the songs of the redeemed, sinners would drop down at the altar and cry for mercy. Some one would go and assist them, teaching them how to take hold of God by faith, and they overcame by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony. Glory be to God for His wonderful work in the salvation of precious souls.

Now may the grace of God the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen!

Beloved Brethren, and all the true saints of God, greeting. We commenced our Tabernacle meeting in this city, on 18th and Baltimore sts. Bro. J. P. Haner is with us, and if the Lord wills we expect to continue the meeting until cold weather. Souls are being saved here now. Pray for us, that the Lord will be with us in power. I am saved from all sin, and sanctified through and through. Hallelujah! Amen!

Kansas City, Mo. Oct. 6-87.

Dear Brethren: — May God bless all the saints and keep you all by His power, preserved in Jesus Christ, and sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise. We commenced meeting in this wicked city Sept. 29th, in the name of Jesus Christ. Souls are being saved. Eight asked the prayers of the Church. Now dear saints, when you read this, lift your hearts to God and pray for me that I may be used of God in the salvation of many souls. Here the devil attacked me with fever; I was only sick for two days and one night, also had three chills.

Oct. 4th, the Lord wonderfully healed me. To Him be all the glory. I feel stronger in God than ever in all of my life. Oh glory to God for ever and ever.

I pray God to send me a band of heavenly singers to work with me.

I feel this is God’s plan and will. If any one feels led, write to Kansas City, or Urbana Kan. Yours sweetly saved and trusting in Jesus. O glory, how the fire burns in my soul. Hallelujah! Pray earnestly for me. and the work here in K. C.

CHRIST THE DOOR.

—:o:—

“VERILY, verily, I say unto you, be that entereth not by the door into the sheep-fold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.”

Now this sheep fold is the Church. Which one? some one says. It is the Church of the First-born. The One, and only true Church of the living God. It is one which the devil cannot join, because the entrance is holy, and nothing unclean can enter therein. Are there any persons at the present time, who are trying to climb up some other way, rather than enter in at the door; whom the Word calls thieves and robbers? Yes, we enumerate them by the million. They devise all manner of ways to get into the kingdom, except by entering in through the door. Some try it by living a good moral life, dealing honestly with their fellow men, and aiming at an upright life; yet they fail to walk in the ways of holiness in accordance with the Word of God, and in the great day they will hear these awful words, “Depart from me ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels;” for Jesus said, “Verily, I say unto you, except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of Heaven.” But they ignore the words of the Savior, and find at the end of time that they have climbed up some other way as a thief and a robber, only to be cast out into everlasting darkness where their doom is sealed for eternity.

Thus we see many miss Heaven by trusting in a mere moral life to carry them through. Others pass through life feigning infidelity, trying to make themselves and others believe there is no God, yet they often quake with fear at the presence of His power. “The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God.” All such fools shall likewise be cast into hell together, where they will be made to realize the power of the wrath of God, and reap the the fruits and reward of their labor.

But the principal hatchway through which the multitudes climb, only to find themselves in a state of delusion, is through the different churches, or creeds.

But why should they be the means of leading souls astray? Are they not organizations, or branches, of the “true Vine,” through which the work of salvation is carried on by their competition? These questions are often asked by persons who are bound down by hands of sectarianism, who are unable to read the Scriptures with an understanding. Christ says, “I am the Vine, ye are the branches.” Now many claim that the different denominations are the branches. Christ is the Body of the Church, but He has no branches of iniquity, nor abominable sprouts of wickedness attached to Him, such as are the creeds of to-day which are filled with all manner of wickedness and evil doing. Their members have become “lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” Those who were once Spiritual have relaxed their hold on the Lord in order to conform with, and gain the confidence of the world, so as to enlarge the membership of their creed, and compete comparatively well with their fellow-laborers in the sister churches of the devil’s vineyard, where exists nothing but division, confusion, strife and contention. But in the Church of God, of which Christ is the door, there is unity, and all is love, peace and joy.

There is no creed on earth that does not fellowship liars, thieves and robbers, and even the vilest of sinners may join them and remain in good standing as long as they can pay their quarterage, and meet all financial demands. Now there are a great many honest souls, who have been deceived and led captive, and starved Spiritually, because the ministers have failed to preach the Gospel as God commanded that it should be taught, and He says, “Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! says the Lord. Therefore thus says the Lord God of Israel against the pastors that feed my people; Ye have scattered my Hock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, says the Lord. And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase. And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, says the Lord.” — Jer. 23:1-4.

Praise God, He is getting the remnant of His flock, and bringing them again to their folds and will place ministers over them who will preach the Gospel in its purity, The Word says, “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath ligh with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that, believeth with an infidel? And what, agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God: as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them: and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, says the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” — 2 Cor. 14-18.

As men lose sight of God, they clasp sectarianism with a friendly hand. But when they plunge in the cleansing stream, and enter in at the door of the true Church, they lose sight of all creeds, and sail beyond the things of this world. Jesus tells us, He is the door of the sheep, and also says, “By me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out and find pasture.”

Dear sinner Christ is speaking these words to you, and bids you come, though you are as vile as the thief upon the cross, and your life is made miserable by the weight of your sins; yet there is hope for you; He died for you. He came to call sinners to repentance, and not the righteous. This door is for those who need salvation, and any poor sinner who humbly knocks shall be permitted to enter, and shall in no wise be cast out, “Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” What wonderful blessings and advantages the blessed Savior has promised to those who accept His ways, He promises safety; for he says “he shall be saved” — saved from the curse of the law, the wrath to come, the roaring lion who goeth about seeking whom he may devour, from the king of terrors, a world lying in wickedness, an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God, and from all uncleanness and evil doing – saved in the Lord with an everlasting salvation.

Praise God, he shall have the glorious liberty to “go in and out.” Not in at the door of the fold and out in sin again, but “he knows the truth, and the truth makes him free,” and he is free indeed — free to go wherever he pleases in Emanuel’s land, and partake of all the privileges of God,” and when we enter in through this door we find a rich land where our needs are all supplied, and then we can truly say with the Psalmist, “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want, He maketh me to lie down in green pastures, He leadeth me beside still waters. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”

MY EXPERIENCE.

—:o:—

Grand Junction, Mich.

Dear saints of the living God: — I feel that it would be for the glory of God to tell some of my past experience within the last two years. God has wonderfully cared for me, and followed after me.

Two years ago Bro. Warner and mother Smith came to my home, (Onarga Ill.) to hold a meeting for the salvation of souls. I felt then, and still know that I was filled with the power of God at that time, and knew that God called me to work for Him and the salvation of souls; and I felt that God wanted me to go with them to Mt. Pleasant Iowa, to help in a meeting there which I know was to the glory of God, and God blessed my soul wonderfully. After which we returned to my home. Then I thought the Lord wanted me to go to Beaver Dam Ind., to labor with them there. I went, but as soon as I got there I felt that I had lost power with God. The dear saints there had no fellowship with me, and I felt it, and it made me feel very sad at times. I felt as though I had lost some dear friend, not realizing what caused that sad feeling. I continued in that state for over two months. It was all caused by me getting ahead of Jesus, and getting my eyes turned away from Him, and set on things that displeased Him, and He took His Spirit away from me. God showed me that I was not right, and that great friend I had lost was Jesus. O dear ones, how sad it is to lose sight of Jesus!

Some times in my saddest hours I would feel like sinking into the earth. Of course it was the devil that made me feel so. While I was still in that state of darkness the devil made me think that God wanted me to go out in the field to labor for the salvation of sinners; but every time I got ready to go the Lord would hinder me, and I thank God that He did. The devil caused me to have hard feelings against Bro. Warner and mother Smith: when I would meet them I always tried to treat them kindly, but that pure love was not there and they knew it, and so did God.

I had lost all my salvation, and was in great darkness: I sometimes felt I could never be saved again, but God had mercy on my poor soul, and did save me. Glory be to His holy name for-ever and ever!

One year ago last August at the Beaver Dam grove meeting, God showed me that if I did not come to the point and get saved soon, that I would be lost. God showed me that I must make a public confession before He would save, and set me free. I did so, and God set this poor soul of mine as free as the birds that fly in the air. Glory be to God for-ever! God wonderfully sanctified ray soul at that meeting, and I have been abounding in His love ever since. Hallelujah! I know I am saved completely in Jesus this very moment. He gives me the satisfying portion, and makes me content wherever I may be; He makes me willing to do His will in all things. I know God has called me to work for Him, which I love to do;

Page 3

but I feel the great need to be sure when God calls, or sends us to work for Him, to peep our eyes on Jesus, and then we will be all right.

I thank God also for the gift of healing which He has given me, and above all I thank Him for the gift of the Holy Ghost which I have in my soul. O it is glorious to be all the Lord’s, and to have the witness of God in the soul that we are walking in the light as He is in the light. I feel very little before God: I feel there is nothing of me only what God makes of me. I am living each day and hour for Jesus, resting, and waiting for His appearing. O how sweet it is to sink out of self into Christ — hid away with Jesus, and to live low down at His feet.

Now dear ones I feel that what I have said is to the glory of God, and by showing others what the Lord has done for me, they will see the necessity of keeping our eyes on Jesus, and to “See no one save Jesus only.” I thank God that He has promised, “After that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you:” I feel that I am settled for life. Hallelujah! Saved with all everlasting salvation. I have died the death to sin, to live and reign with Christ.

Now I must say a few words to those who have lost sight, of Jesus who once tasted of the goodness of God, and have felt His power, to come back and find peace for your poor soul. I know, and so do you, that there is no peace in living in sin; but in God it is all peace and joy. O come while God is calling you. God is no respecter of persons, He can do as much or you as He has done for me, and many others. Come, do not delay, you are standing in the way of sinners. I say in the name of Jesus, get out of the way of poor souls, get filled with God and go and work for Him, and He will bless and settle you gloriously. Hallelujah! It is so sweet to be all the Lord’s, and to know that we are kept by His mighty power. Come back to Jesus and let Him have His way with you, get saved of God, and get your eyes and mind fixed upon Him, not in man, nor anything else but Christ, for He says “I am the Way, the truth and the life, no man cometh to the Father but by me.” Dear sinners will you not come to the Savior? Come as you are, do not delay; Jesus is pleading for you, He died to redeem you poor sinner, that you might have eternal life. O come, taste and see that the Lord is good: His love is very deep. “O the depth of the riches, both of the wisdom and knowledge of God. How unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out.”

Poor sinner, God is waiting to save your soul as soon as you will yield to His loving call. He will fill you with His glory, and give you peace and joy in your soul — He will give you that sweet peace which the world knows nothing about.

Praise His name for ever! I do thank God that I am completely saved, and lost in the will of my God: I feel that His will is my will. He sanctifies my soul so sweetly, and fills me with His glory.

I ask all the dear saints to pray for me, that I may sink deeper into the will of God every day of my life. I am wholly the Lord’s, for-ever and ever! Amen.

Your sister, saved and sanctified to God.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — The meeting at Hamilton which closed on Sunday evening, was characterized with much good in the salvation of a number of precious souls, the sanctification of believers, and the edifying of the body of Christ, the Church. Glory to God for the mighty power of the Holy Ghost during the meeting, from the beginning to the close. Many dear ones from Cheshire, Trowbridge, Lee, Geneva, and other places were present. O praise the Lord for the wholesome food the brethren dealt out to us. Bro. Wm. Smith and wife, Bro. Colby and wife from Portland Mich., Bro’s Speck, Kilpatrick, and Evans were present. Notwithstanding the weather being unfavorable, there was a good attention and good order. At the close of the afternoon, meeting on Sunday, five of God’s children were buried with Christ by baptism, by brother Kilpatrick. On Sunday Oct. 9th, Bro. W. J. Evans was ordained, by the laying on of hands, a minister to preach the everlasting gospel of Jesus Christ in the Church of the living God. Amen: Wm. N. Smith, A. J. Kilpatrick, S. L. Speck, A. B. Dear Brethren: — And to all the saints scattered abroad throughout the land. May God bless you with all Spiritual blessings.

I can say He has saved and sanctified my soul, and keeps me. Praise His holy name for this wonderful salvation, that keeps me from all the snares of the devil. My wife and I are the only saints here, and it is trying times for us, but I praise God for victory over it all. The dear Lord says He will have a tried people. Bless His holy name for His goodness and kindness to me, for ever saving my soul. My prayer is that God may send some of His ministers to this place to preach the true Gospel. There are some here who claim they are the people of God, but their names are only written on paper. I bless God for a clean sweep from sects; and the use of tobacco, and everything that would bind me to earth; and for victory over the devil. They told me if my children would get sick and we did not get a doctor, they would prosecute us; and so the dear Lord tried us. The children were taken sick, and then the trying hour came. O how the devil did bring up things before us to use, but I said Jesus is my physician, and the children are in the hands of the Lord. I said, Lord there is no Elder here, so what shall we do? Then the Lord impressed me to lay on hands in the name of Jesus, and anoint them with oil, as He says in His word. The devil tried to make me believe the little girl would not be healed, but I knew he was a liar and God’s Word was true. Praise the Lord!

Your Bro. saved and sanctified, washed and redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus. Pray for us, that we may stand firm for Christ.

Dear Saints: — To-day finds me saved and rejoicing in God, the Bock of my salvation, unto whom be all the honor and glory forever. Amen!

I do thank God for convicting me of my sins; and after I had fully determined in my own mind to turn from my sins and obey God, how the blessed Holy Spirit did lead me and show me what I must do, and what I must not do if I would be approved of God. Praise His name! O I can never praise God enough for what He has done for my soul. When I think how near I was in a drunkard’s grave; for I know one more year would have landed my soul in hell, had not God saved me when He did, for I was a miserable wreck; I drank for 30 years, and chewed tobacco 40 years.

I was so near gone that no one cared for my company, neither saint nor sinner, and when I came to myself, and saw my awful condition 1 thought no one would have any confidence in me. But I fell at Jesus’ feet and cried for mercy, and the Lord picked me up, and cleansed me and washed me in His own precious blood. And to my surprise I found fellowship with the Lord and all of His beloved saints.

Nearly three years ago He cleansed me from whiskey, and tobacco, and all of my idols. He has forgiven all my sins, and cleansed me from all unrighteousness. Praise God forever and ever!

To-day my face is set Zionward, and I have a strong determination in my soul to see the King in all His beauty, and to possess my Heavenly mansion which my blessed Jesus has gone to prepare for all the faithful. I am out on the straight line for God, with the Holy Ghost in my soul to guide me into all truth.

Glory to God! My soul rejoices with joy unspeakable and full of glory. O dear ones, it pays to be true to God, it brings peace and joy to the soul, Jesus says “In the world ye shall have tribulation, but in me ye shall have peace.”

Your Bro. sanctified, and made white, and tried.

To the saints abroad greeting: grace to you, and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. I am saved and sanctified through and through, and kept, by the power of God, ready to be revealed in the last time. Christ has made me free from the law of sin and death. Hallelujah! Though persecuted, tempted and tried, as having nothing, and yet possessing all things, as cast down, but not forsaken, I am preserved; that principalities, nor powers, life or death, or any other creature, shall be able to separate me from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus. For the Lord is our defence; He is our King, and in His name shall we rejoice all the day. O praise God for ever! Praise the Lord for the meeting at Jerry City! I received new light there, and I am walking in it. Your sister in Christ.

Dear Brethren: — I feel led of the Lord to send in my testimony for Jesus. We read so many testimonies from God’s dear children in different places, but not many from home. It strengthens us so much to hear from the dear ones near home. If we are His children we must do all we can to strengthen one-another. I praise God that He called after me, and gave me a willing heart to follow in His footsteps. Praise the Lord forever!

I am saved, sanctified and kept by the power of God, and continually praising the Lord. Your sister in Christ.

Dear Brethren: — I feel led to write a testimony for Jesus. O glory to Jesus! I am saved this morning, and filled with the spirit. Oh I do rejoice for this great salvation that keeps us all the time. Oh how my soul goes out for sinners in this place. I have victory over the devil and all the powers of hell; I have hard battles to fight, but glory to Jesus I am bound to stand let come what may. The devil is wonderfully stirred up here; but glory to Jesus I can stand through it all. Oh praise the Lord for saving my soul and keeping me by His mighty power. Oh pray for me that I stand firm and do my Masters will at all times. Glory to my blessed Savior, who has done so much for me. My prayer is to God that I keep saved. Your sister under the blood.

Dear Brethren: — I thank God that I am still saved and trusting in the Lord, and sanctified. I bless God’s holy name for salvation full and free. Oh I praise my heavenly Father that I am still looking to Jesus in all my troubles: I am determined to go on and fight the battles of the Lord manfully. Dear Brethren, I feel so glad to know that we can be saved from all sin, in this life. I stand ready to go any time when the Master calleth me. There is nothing so dear to me as my dear Savior. I have a boy that I dearly love, but I have given him up for Christ. It was a long time before I could consent; but I have given him into the hand of the Lord. And my daily prayer is, Lord do with him as seemeth good in Thy sight; for I can do nothing with him. May the Lord help me to stand firm, set good examples before him, and under this and all other circumstances may I say Thy will be done, O Lord.

I know that I am saved from all sin, and sanctified, made white, and tried. Oh may God help me to stand the test, and think it not strange as though some strange thing had happened unto me. Your sister saved by the precious blood of Jesus.

To all the beloved Saints of the church of the First born, whose names are written in heaven. I thought it meet to write a few lines for Jesus, and to the dear readers of the Trumpet, as I have not written for some time, or heard any thing from the Brethren, but can say that I am all on the altar, and the precious blood of Jesus cleanseth me from all sin.

Companion and I are out on the blood and fire line for Jesus, and the salvation of precious souls. Glory to the Lamb! I know that our names are written there on the page white and fair, and this morning I have the witness fresh from a throne of grace. I am so glad that I measured up every thing according to the Lord’s will while others strain at a gnat and swallow a camel, and at the same time dwelling, in darkness, and calling it light as one I saw and heard; stating that his sins had gone on before to judgment. Glory to God! I went to Jesus and He washed all mine away; Hallelujah! and now they are not gone on before, but God said He would remember them no more for-ever Amen. Shout glory to God, we are saved through Jesus blood. Bless His name for-ever and ever.

I once was an outcast, stranger on earth,
A sinner by choice, an alien by birth.
But I’ve been adopted, my name’s written down,
Heir to a mansion, a robe and a crown.

Oh the awful darkness of the poor hypocrite who mourns his folly, professing to know God, and on his way to hell, sometimes I stop and wonder how it came that I walked out in the light, while others around me were fighting God, fighting holiness, and every thing pertaining to a godly life. But again I must say, bless His name for-ever while the fire is burning on the altar of my heart, all the men and devils on earth could not make me believe other-wise, when I went to Jesus, and God sanctified my soul, He gave me the witness thus says the Lord. So I do not think any thing about, or guess at it but I know it. Praise His name! when I ask a soul, are you sanctified? and they begin to twist and dodge and say well I thought if any body had it I had, you can make up your mind at once that they have not got if; not soundly justified, but are under condemnation, and the wrath of the Almighty God resting on them; they had better get saved; they are like a great many I have heard say they want something and do not know what; why I can tell you what they want, they are seeking the peace of their soul; they are under condemnation, are not justified, consequently they must first seek peace, and believe that God gives it to them; as Jesus said when ye ask believe that, you receive and you shall receive, and stay there till you get it. There is so much of this shoddy sanctification going through the world; what we want is the kind going through the soul that sets the whole being on fire for God. So now my companion and I are ready to answer calls where-ever it may be. All they need to do is to let us know at Newton or Kansas City. God bless all the saints scatterd abroad. Your Bro. in Christ, saved and sanctified.

Dear Brethren: — We praise God to-day for a present salvation. Our testimony is that we are saved from all sin, and kept by the power of God through faith. We are determined to endure until the end. We are being tried, but God’s grace is sufficient: He gives us victory in our souls over all the works of the devil. The devil would have us all if he could, but we are not of them that draw back unto perdition, but of them that believe unto the saving of the soul.

We love to read the testimonies of the dear saints, and to hear from the Lord’s ministers. We ask the prayers of all the saints; and pray also for the rest of God’s little ones at this place, that we may be perfectly united in the Holy Spirit.

Dear Brethren: — I am saved and sanctified by the precious blood of Jesus, by second work of grace. Praise God forever, for a complete salvation, and the abiding Comforter, the Holy Spirit, that leads us into all truth, and enables us at all times to cry out against all sin and uncleanness, and wage war against babylon. She has fallen, and become the habitation of devils; ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. But they shall proceed no further, for their folly shall be manifest to all men; for God is sending His angels forth with a mighty trumpet, gathering His elect together, on all the face of the earth. I pray the good Lord to send some workers to this part of His vineyard. Your brother.

Dear Saints; — I am led of the Spirit to write my testimony just now. I do praise God to-day for a complete salvation. I am under the blood of Christ, freed from babylon’s noise, and walking in the light as He is in the light. Sister Elizabeth Grant, wife of Napoleon Grant departed this life September 26th, 1887. Aged 39 years, 3 months, and 13 days. Leaves a husbad and 7 children. Her loss was keenly felt by all, and especially by the oldest daughter, being so severely afflicted. Sister Grant’s testimony was, “I’m going to live in Heaven.”

God bless the dear family. Services were held at the Round School-house, in La Fayette.

the Lord healed him and raised him up.

O hallelujah! “Let the little ones come unto me, and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of Heaven. It shows the life of the parents. O parents, teach your children that Jesus is able to heal, and to save from all sin.

There has been a goodly number saved, and some got the light on the true Church, and the Church has been strengthened and built up. Praise His holy name! Some of the saints have had their gifts stirred up within them so that they obey, and the Lord blesses them. Bro. S. Greenawalt had a vision: he saw a large tree, and it grew across the road and then grew up until it was very tall. He thought he and Bro. M. S. Yoder went to saw it down, and they sawed until it was almost sawed off, but it would not fall. And he thought the road was full of people and they could not get through until the tree was taken out of the way. And there were sinners in the multitude, but they could not get the tree to fall. Well praise the Lord, I saw the tree, and I took the Gospel saw and went to work at it. O how tough and crooked it was: but it had to fall, and was taken out of the way. The result was, the sinners came to Jesus, and were saved. The meeting closed Friday eve, with the best of the wine at the last of the feast. The power of God was upon the people, and all of one accord insomuch that sinners could not stand in the congregation of the righteous: and babylon gave way, and two declared their freedom from the M. E. sect. O hallelujah to the Lamb forever! Amen!

Payne, O. Oct. 5th, 87.

Dear Brethren: — The Lord bless and keep you in the love of God. Praise God, I am saved and sanctified through the blood of the Lord Jesus. Glory to our God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

From the Red Lion Ordinance meeting we went with dear Bro. and sister Frost to Henderson, Mercer Co. Pa., where we commenced meeting in the evening of the day we arrived, held four services. We found that some of the saints had been pressed down by the devil through the imprudent conduct of him who had preached the Gospel to them. Some were on the compromise line, so much so that they could not profess full salvation. On the evening of the Lord’s day and the two following evenings we held services at Stoneboro. At this place, on Monday, Sept. 26 the Lord healed sister Frost of hemorrhage of the stomach. She had thrown up so much blood that when Bro. Perrine and I carried her into the room and laid her on the sofa, she sank away, and some thought she was dying. The doctor was there, and before she had thoroughly roused up he gave her a dose of medicine, with advice not to move her that night. But when services were over she desired to be prayed for, and the Lord healed her, and she went home that night, and the next night came back to meeting. Praise God for ever!

On Wednesday we commenced meeting again at Henderson, and continued over the Lord’s day. The greater part of the weak saints were strengthened and established, and those who were, not bound down of the devil, were willing to receive instruction and were satisfied with the meeting. While I continued the meeting at Henderson, Bro. Speck held services Friday and Saturday evenings at Mechanicsville. The prejudice of the people seemed to be removed, to such a degree that they listened to the preaching of the Word, and observed good order. This place is about seven miles from Henderson. On the evening of the Lord’s day, Oct. 2nd, the saints assembled at mother Frost’s house to break bread. The Lord gave us a good meeting, and four consecrated for a clean heart. At this meeting 47 partook of the Ordinances, and after communion seavices were over, dear Bro. P. R. Griggs of Franklin, was ordained an Elder in the Church of God, and dear Bro’s. C. W. Perrine, and W. E. Armstrong were ordained deacons of the Church of God at Henderson. God bless them all and keep them, and all the dear saints at Henderson, faithful until the end. Amen!

We took train at Stoneboro Pa., Monday morning, and Tuesday after noon we arrived at Payne O., full of gratitude and praise to God for salvation and a prosperous journey. Yours in Christ.

A. J. Kilpatrick.

North Star, O.

Dear Brethren: — I feel led of the Lord to write a report of the work of the Lord wrought through us after the Sweetser grove meeting. We came to Randolph Co. Ind., and spent some time with the saints at that place. We had not been there long before God set His fanning mill in operation, which for some cause had not been working for a time previous as it should have been. This great fanning mill of God soon caused the chaff to fly in opposite directions, and the wheat to be gathered into the garner. While we were there we received a call to go to North Clayton O., to hold a meeting. After making up a company including Bro’s. H. C. Key and Willie Fowler, sisters Anna Key and Ettie Grow, we took train for Versailles O. Friday, September 16th, where we held meeting the night following, when the Lord lead Bro. Henry out on false teachers, which stirred the devil greatly and caused him to be very bold, insomuch that he sent one of his agents into the house where we lodged that night, who ordered us to keep still. But bless God, we were praising God and could not keep still, until the Spirit gave permission. The next day (Saturday) we took train for Clayton, where meeting had commenced for Saturday night and over Sabbath. We opened fire on the devil’s ranks Saturday night in a New Light, (or rather a No light) meeting house. The first subject the Lord placed in our mind, to deliver to the people, was holiness. The people listened very attentively to the discourse, and a great many indorsed it. The next was on the second work of grace, which produced a similar effect, and Friday the Lord led us to speak on the true Church. This caused a noisome and grievous sore to fall upon the men that had the mark of the beast. — Rev. 16:2.

As the house had only been engaged for over Sabbath, they shut us out. Well we gave God all the glory, for we knew God’s Word would accomplish that whereunto it had been sent, and we felt assured that if God wanted us to work any longer at that place He would provide a house. The next morning we made all calculations on leaving, when some of the sinners at that place came to us and said they believed they could get the German Reformed meeting house, which had not been occupied for four years, and asked ns if we would stay longer if they did so. We answered in the affirmative; so a couple of them went to see the overseer, who lived about four miles away. We waited their return until nearly train time, and fearing that we would miss the train we started to the depot, about three miles distant. We had not gone more thou two miles when we heard some one behind us We turned to see who it was, and behold! it was the men who had gone to see about the meeting house. We waited to hear their story: it was that the house was ours as long as we used it for benevolent purposes. We felt led of the Lord to go back with them and continue the work at that place. That day a company of the citizens went to clean up the newly engaged house for meeting that night. Two of our Co. accompanied them, and behold the walls and seats were literally covered with spider webs, and the house of the God-forsaken German Reform sect had become the habitation of devils. We heard a cry from the house where we were stopping, saying the man that said close the New Light house, (so called) had come to see us. We returned to see what he wanted, and he said “I have come to get you to continue the meeting in our house.” And so we did; but the babylonians found out that we would not compromise with them if they did let us come hack in their house. For the Lord led us to renounce their ungodliness that night more I suppose than ever. The man that wished us to continue the meeting in their house, said he purposed on attending the meeting, but after that night we saw no more of him. Praise the Lord! “The wicked flee when no man pursueth, but the righteous are bold as a lion.” — Psalm. 28:1.

We held six meetings at that place, with large attendance, and good order excepting two babylonians, one especially who was a leading member in the sect at that place. She so manifested the evil spirit which was in her that the people did not need her case expounded. Yet in all these things we were more than conquerors through Him that loved us. — Rom. 8:37. And in spite of the howling of the devil and sectarians, we left that place with many under deep conviction and in great sympathy with the true doctrine. We earnestly thank the people of that vicinity for their kindness toward us, and pray that God will save their souls. We expect, the Lord willing, to visit that place again in the near future, and tell the people more about Jesus and His ways.

From there we went to Osgood O., where we held a two nights meeting, thence to our homes, where we are now taking a short rest. The Lord willing, we will begin a meeting at Portland Ind, Oct. 1st.

Our prayer is that God will save many souls at that place. Let all of God’s saints pray for us. Your Bro. under the blood.

Dearly Beloved saints of the living God scattered abroad: may the grace, mercy and love of God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ he with you all in the Spirit. Amen. I praise the Lord for the glorious light of the Gospel revealed in us by His Spirit. O this blessed evening light which shines so brightly in our souls, flooding them with radiant glory from God’s eternal throne. O such dazzling brightness we never realized while in babylon. For the once joyous and faithful city has become a habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. But thank God, the day of her doom came when she fell spiritually, when God’s fierce wrath and indignation were, are and shall be poured upon her, for her sins have reached unto Heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. — Rev. 18:5. But thanks be to God, that He forgot not His people, to leave them alone to scramble about in the rubbish; but sent a kind angel to proclaim the way of deliverance for His people, and calls upon them to obey His voice. “My sheep hear my voice, and a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him.”

The ransomed of the Lord are coming to Mount Zion, and they obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing flee away. O praise God for ever and ever!

I do thank God that I ever heard the Gospel of the Son of God preached in its purity, and the standard of God’s holiness lifted up: and that my eyes were opened to behold this wonderful light. I thank God that I had the privilege of attending the last four days of the Bangor Camp-meeting. I have been to a goodly number of Camp-meetings both in the Church of God and in babylon, but I never before enjoyed four days of a C. M. any more than those last June. O glory to God! O what glory filled my soul as I was ordained to do the work of an evangelist, by the laying on of hands by dear Bro. Warner and others. The Bible never before seemed so unsealed to my understanding, such a great book, with such a vast amount of wisdom and knowledge. Glory be to God! I never before enjoyed preaching and studying the Word of God, and the mysteries therein, as since that time. O hallelujah to God!

My whole soul was melted with gratitude to God when I learned by the TRUMPET of Sept. 15 that my dearly beloved Bro. and sister Smith were delivered from the deluded company with whom they had been travelling. O bless God! May the dear Lord bless and keep dear Bro, and sister S, for they have certainly been a blessing to the cause of Christ, and I, for one, can never forget their labors of love during the time I staid at the G. T. Office. May God ever richly bless those kind and loving hearts.

O dear saints of God, let us earnestly pray for the restoration of the once dear Bro. J. C. Fisher, for I believe he will yet be brought back to God. For the fervent effectual prayer of the righteous availeth much. O dear saints pray earnestly for God’s ministers, and for me, that we may be ever preserved in Jesus Christ, abounding in wisdom and power to do His work well, that we fulfill it in the Lord.

Your sanctified brother.

Dear Saints: — It has been a long time since I have written to you, but the time has come for me to tell you that my Lord and Master has kept me sweetly saved. In all the past twelve years of my experience in this sanctified rest, I have never realized such a continual fullness of joy, such freedom and power with God, as in the past six months. The well of living water often over flows within my soul, and the anointing for service, for which I have earnestly prayed, is coming down upon me. Praises be unto our God for ever! After the Bangor camp meeting, I accompanied some of the saints to Hamilton and Diamond Springs where I found a good many saved souls. And others who were honest and sincere, but greatly deceived by the delusions of the enemy. God has used me in teaching the way of salvation more perfectly, and we were mutually blest of the Lord. One week ago I came to Cheshire. There has been a great work done, but help is much needed to strengthen and settle the little ones, enabling them to withstand the assaults of the enemy, who has tried to hinder and overthrow them. The most cruel persecutions have been raging through these localities, but to the saved they are only as one beating the air, for the righteous dwelleth in the secret place of the most high and with Paul they are ever able to exclaim “who shall separate us from the love of Christ, shall tribulation or distress, persecution or famine, nakedness, or perilous sword. Nay in all these things, we are more than conquer through Him that loved us.” Praise God, these only settle us more securely upon the Rock, against which the gates of hell shall not prevail. And while we pity those who are in bondage to sin, and know not how to bridle their tongue; let us seek to win them to Christ with a Godly example and with the spirit of love which is the greatest weapon to conquer the world. Your sister.

To the Saints of God. I feel led to write my testimony. I cannot begin to tell you how good the Lord has been to me, in saving my soul; in giving me this glorious light, and in placing me in a position with God, where it is continual sunshine in my soul. O glory to God! for the sanctifying power that makes trials, temptations and persecutions but trifling things. O how much the Lord has done for this place, and is still doing more. There is a goodly number fully established in the faith. O what glorious meetings we do have; sometimes the devil tries to get in but is soon headed off, and then how the Lord does work with us. At the present time all is unity and peace.

Some of the dear saints stopped with us Tuesday and Wednesday on their way from the assembly to the Hamilton meeting. O what glorious meetings we did have both evenings, Bro. Evans preached to us and won the confidence and love of the entire community, how are souls did feast. Oh how I do pray that God may lead some of His ministers to come and carry on the good begun work. There are so many that are almost persuaded to be saints, others striving to get victory. Oh how I do praise God for victory in my soul. Oh the peace and joy of this life I live trusting in my Savior, I am continualy drinking at the fountain of His love. Your sister in Christ.

Dear Brethren: — I do feel truly thankful to God for this saving grace. Oh glory be to His great and holy name forever and ever. The good Lord is to me all He promised to be. By faith in Jesus I am more settled in God’s blessed word than ever before. I find by experience that if we leave the Word in the least, that the devil will slip right in and take possession as far as disobedience to the word of God has given place to him he dare not, nor cannot go farther. Oh praise the Lord for His word, which is a real life-boat to the soul, to them that truly trust and abide in Jesus, and His words in them.

I shall ever praise God for sending dear Bro. Warner and the little company of heaven born travelers and workers for Jesus; may the dear Lord bless them and their labors; they done a great work here in the name of Jesus, they rebuked every thing that was not of God, or according to His holy word. I renounce the devil and his work where-ever I find it. The word says resist the devil and he will flee from us; well I find it so, a I do all other scriptures. The dear Lord has been so good to me in waiting for me so long to come to him, and is still sparing me to straighten up and measure to the word. O praise God for salvation that saves me just now. He has saved me from my sins which were many, sanctified me wholly, saved me from tobacco and coffee, saved from babylon. My name is written on the Lambs book of life. I belong to the church of the first born in heaven. Praise the Lord! I have left the missionary baptist sect to follow Jesus forever. I take the Lord for my physician; I take him for a complete savior. Oh blessed be the name of Jesus! my feet are firmly planted on that Rock, and I am going on to know and do the will of Him who has redeemed me with His own precious blood. Your sister trusting in Jesus.

Dear Brethren: — This moment finds me saved from babylon and all her works. I am free in Christ Jesus. We have a little band of saints down here: God has set some of His children free, and they are growing rapidly in the work of the Lord. We are few in number, but the sects are getting uneasy.

Brethren pray for us, that we may have the victory over all the works of the devil continually. Your Bro. saved, sanctified, and redeemed; ready to be revealed. Glory to Jesus for His keeping power in my soul!

Dear Saints of God, I feel led by the blessed spirit of the Lord to write for the Trumpet again, I rejoice to say that I am all the Lord’s; given up to Him for time and eternity. Perfect victory in my soul over every thing. I love to read the testimonies in the Trumpet they are straight for God. I can understand them, praise the Lord! The Lord is very precious to them that believe, He is precious I know for I believe, and trust in His promises.

I am nearly 70 years old, and I know I love the ways of the Lord better all the time. Your sister wholly sanctified.

Dear Brethren of the most high God: — I do praise God that I am saved and sanctified, and kept by His great power. Glory to Jesus! I still have victory in my soul, which is the Lord Jesus found with in. It makes my soul leap within me to know that I have escaped the corruption of this world, and the works, and snares of the devil. O praise the Lord for salvation just now, and for preserving me.

Glory to Jesus! it is wonderful what He has done for me and my family in His great healing power; when we come boldly to a throne of grace, He will help in time of need; we have found healing in His wings. Glory to God? I do praise God that I am out of babylon, and babylon out of me. I heard the straight word preached by Bro. Warner, with the fire of God sent down from heaven, and it reached my soul, and burnt cut all the abominable works of the devil, and now I am filled with the love of heaven. Glory to Jesus! O dear saints be strong in the Lord for the time is come when we must examine ourselves, and see whether we be in the Faith or not. O it is wonderful how the devil is deceiving souls here that claimed to be saints; the Lord tried to get them straight but they would not, and now men gather them and they are burned. The sanctuary must be cleansed; Gods whirlwind will blow out the chaff. Hallelujah to God and the lamb forever and ever! for His holy spirit that fills my soul, and keeps me from sin; being dead to sin how can we live any longer therein. O how it pleases the Father for us to be humble and obedient; then we can walk in the light as he is in the light; and the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanses us from all sin. He has made me clean through the truth, which is his blessed word, for His word is truth. Praise God! O how I love the word of God it fills my soul with the evening light. I am walled in with walls of salvation, and the gates shall be His praises which is my lips. Glory to Jesus! I am so glad that I let Jesus set me free, now I am loose for God alone to do His will in all things. I belong to the Church of the first born, I know my name is written in heaven on the Lamb’s book of life. When the purging comes, some will not stand, Glory to Jesus! God can not use them with out being straight; they will flee to the habitations of devil’s, (denominations) the hold of every foul Spirit, and the cage of every unclean and hateful bird. Your Bro. under the blood.
