Wonderful Fountain.

—:o:—

Wonderful fountain of glory.
That flowed from Jesus’ side:
When for the lost and the guilty,
He bowed His head and died.

Cho: — Come to the beautiful cleansing,
O! it has made me free;
Heavenly fountains are sending
Rivers of peace in me.

Wonderful! wonderful!! cleansing,
The precious blood I know,
Over my heart is streaming,
And makes me white as snow.

Lost in the desert and thirsty,
Weary and blind in sin;
Jesus the fountain of mercy,
Ransomed my soul to Him.

Now I am perfect and holy,
Dwelling in Christ so pure;
Wonderful! wonderful!! story,
I’m saved forever more.

Beautiful! beautiful!! River
Flooding my heart with love;
Flow in my bosom forever,
Pure as the fount above.

O! I am happy in Jesus,
Washed in His precious blood;
Singing in heavenly places,
Filled with the peace of God.

SECOND WORK OF GRACE.

—@—

HERE is a text I would like for you to explain to me. You will find it in 2 Cor. 1:25. It reads in this way. “And in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that ye might have a second benefit,”

Ans. O yes I can explain that very easily, and with the greatest of pleasure. That word benefit, is not correctly translated. It is translated from the Greek word, Karin. Which occurs 128 times in the New Testament, and is always translated grace, or favor except this one place, and being derived from the same original word should of necessity be translated the same. Then we will read: and in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that you might have a second favor or grace.

Ques. I often hear you speak of a second work of grace. What does grace mean?

A. Grace means favor, divine favor.

Q. Then what do you mean by the second work of grace?

A. The second work of divine favor.

Q. Paul tells the Corinthians, they are the Church of God which is at Corinth, were they all right?

A. Paul says: and I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. — 1 Cor. 3:1.

Q. What does he mean, by: “but as unto carnal?”

A. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. — Rom. 8:7. Gal. 5:19.

Q. Is it possible that a person can be in Christ, and yet be carnal?

A. Certainly that is what Paul says, I can not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. Babes in Christ, yet carnal. They have the enmity against God dwelling in them. The carnal mind.

Q. Now that is Paul’s teaching. If Christ taught that, then I would believe it.

A. My friend, Christ did teach it.

Q. Show me and I will believe it.

A. Very good we can do that with ease.

Q.Before you go further, what is the first work of grace?

A. We will show you as we go along. We will begin with the 15th chapter of John. I am the vine, and my father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, He taketh away.

Q. What does He mean by “every branch in me?”

A. Every one that is in Christ.

Q. How do we get into Christ.

A. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, — Eph. 2:10.

Q. How are we created in Christ Jesus?

A. For by grace are ye saved through faith. — 2:8. For ye are all children of God, through faith in Christ. — Gal. 2:26.

Q. Does this creation by faith, make any change?

A. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. — 2 Cor. 5:17.

Q. I see now, to have faith in Jesus, makes us new creatures, and children of God, but I cannot understand, how we can be in Christ and yet carnal?

A. You was born with the carnal nature, or enmity against. God, in you; for we inherited it from the fall of Adam. David says: Behold I was shapen in inquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. — Ps. 51:5.

Q. Yes that is plain, but does not God take that away in conversion?

A. Oh no my friend, in conversion God forgives your sins, and grafts you into the vine, but you still have the nature of the vine from which you was taken, and the new nature begins to flow through your heart. Jesus says: Every branch (in me) that beareth fruit, He purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit;

Q. What does He mean by “purging?”

A. Purge, means to cleanse or purify.

Q. But can you give a Bible explanation?

A. Certainly, Paul says: how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God. — Heb. 9:14.

Q. Yes that is plain, so very plain, but what are the dead works He speaks of?

A. John says: But if we walk in the light as He is in the light; we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His son, cleanseth us from all sin. 1 Jno. 1:7. John says: Cleanse from all sin — Paul says: Purge from dead works; and we have shown that word purge, means cleanse or purify. John says the works to be cleansed from, is sin. Then the dead works, is sin.

Q. Understand now, it is the blood that purges, and it is sin that is purged away. But what is required to obtain the purging?

A. 1st To be in Christ.
2nd, To hear fruit.

Every branch (in me) that beareth fruit He purgeth it that it may bring forth more fruit. — Jno. 15:2.

Q. I never saw that before; I see now, we must be in Christ, and then bear fruit, before we have the promise of the purging. Certainly then we can-not get the purging at the same time when we are converted or get into Christs There is that great word sanctification, we hear you folks talk so much about, what does it mean?

A. Why that means the same as the purging etc.

Q. Is that taught as a second work too?

A. O yes, Christ teaches it as such, in Jno. 17.

Q. He does? I did not know that He spoke of it at all. I am sure I am becoming very much interested. I always thought that we got all when we were converted.

A. Oh no it is not so. Jesus says: sanctify them through thy truth, thy Word is truth. — John, 17:17.

Q. But who was He praying for?

A. He answers it: I have manifested thy name unto the men Thou gavest me out of the world: Thine they were and Thou gavest them me: and they have kept thy Word. While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Thy name, those that thou gavest me, I have kept, and none of them is lost but the son of perdition, that the scriptures might be fulfilled. — 17:6, 12.

Q. It is evident He was praying for His disciples, but they were not converted were they?

A. Let Jesus answer it He says: For I have given unto them the Word which Thou gavest me, and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from Thee: and they have believed that Thou didst send me. — Jno. 17:8. Many reject the Word and say they are christians. Here they received Him, and believed on Him.

Q. Yes I understand that, but what does that effect?

A. But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believed on His name. You see they received Him, and believed on His name. Then they must have been the sons of God. Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. — Jno. 1:12, 13. So they were the sons of God; because they received Him, and believed on Him.

Q. Yes, you have made it very plain, but I was not taught that way?

A. It does not make any difference how you were taught, but what the Word teaches. Again, and Jesus said unto them, ye which have followed me in the regenation. Now regeneration, in the Greek is new birthday. In the German it is the again-birth. He tells virtually they had the new birth. Again He says: notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the devils are subject unto you, but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. — Luke, 10:20. When is a child’s name recorded? After it is born of course, not before. He tells them Here their names are written, in heaven. Then they were born into the family of God.

Q. The Bible does teach beyond a doubt to my mind, I must admit, that they were converted. Then why did He pray for their sanctification?

A. Because they had spirit of division or carnal mind in them, and if it was not taken out of them, it would work division.

Q. Is that the cause of division?

A. Ye are yet carnal, for whereas there is among you envy, strife and division, are ye not carnal and walk as men? — 1 Cor. 3:3. Became there was divisions among them: Paul says, they were carnal.

Q. Did the disciples have-that spirit, in them?

A. Most certainly. And He came to Capernaum: and, being in the house, He asked them, what was it ye were disputing among yourselves by the way? But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves who should be greatest. — Mark, 9:33. You see they had that old spirit in them that caused them to fall out by the way among themselves. But Jesus called them to Him and said. Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them, but it shall, not be so among you. — Matt. 20:25.

Q. How did Jesus purpose to rid them of that carnal nature, (mind) or spirit of division?

A. By sanctifying them. Sanctify them through thy truth, Thy Word is truth. — Jno. 17:17.

Q. Why does He sanctify them.

A. That they may all be one: as Thou Father, art in me, and I in Thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may know that Thou bast sent me. — Ver. 21.

Q. Well I must confess I see as I never did before, and thus far it is very plain, but how does He sanctify?

A. We will give the Word on that. That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the Gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost. — Rom. 15:16.

Q. Then we being Gentiles are accepted being sanctified by the Holy Ghost, we are not accepted without. Again, elect according to the foreknowlege of God the Father. (how?) through sanctification of the spirit, and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ. — 1 Peter, 1:2. Now as we are purged by the blood, Heb. 9:13, and cleansed by the blood, 1 Jno. 1:7, and sanctified by the blood. 1 Pet. 1:2. They all mean the same, and are the same identical work, and as purging is a second work, sanctification and cleansing is also, as we have shown already. And as the apostles were sanctified by the Holy Ghost, they received Him as a second work. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost. — Acts, 2:4.

Q. Well it was for the apostles, but was it for others?

A. Jesus says: neither pray I for these alone, but for them also that shall believe on me through their word. — Jno. 17:20. He says He prays for all them that believe on Him, and I believe on Him, and He was praying for me.

Q. I must confess I see it as a second work of grace, and I do want the experience. But what is that work wrought in us when we receive the Holy Ghost?

A. Peter relating his trip down to the Gentiles, the house of Cornelius, says: “And God which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as He did unto us. — Acts, 15:8.

Q. Do I understand that the Gentiles received the Holy Ghost, the same as the apostles?

A That is exactly what Peter teaches and I do believe the Word. “And put no difference between us (the apostles) and them (the Gentiles) purifying their hearts by faith. — Acts, 15:9.

Q. Do I understand that the Holy Ghost made the Gentiles as pure as the apostles?

A. That is just what Peter teaches.

Q. Does the scriptures teach that we become as pure as the apostles?

A. Yes, certainly.

Q. Is it possible, let us see it?

A.He that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one. — Heb. 2:11. Again, Every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself even as He is pure. — 1 Jno. 3:3.

Q.As who is pure?

A. As pure as Jesus is pure, for He says: when He shall appear we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is, and every man that hath this hope in him purefieth himself even as He is pure. Again, herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment, because as He is, so are we in this world. — 1 Jno. 4:17.

Q. As who is?

A. As God; for in the preceding verse He says: God is love etc., and then by dwelling in Him our love is made perfect, and because we are like Him we will have boldness to meet Him in the day of judgment. Amen! Praise God!

Q. Well it is just the heart that is pure, it does not effect the body does it?

A. Christ says: make clean the inside of the cup and the outside will be clean also. — Matt. 23:25. Again, Paul says: and the very God of peace sanctity you wholly, and I pray God that your whole spirit soul, and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. — 1 Thess. 5:23. It includes soul, body and spirit.

Q. They do not live without sin do they?

A. Whosoever committeth sin is of the devil. — 1 Jno. 3:8. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin for His seed remaineth in him and he cannot sin because He is born of God. — 1 Jno. 3:9. Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. — Jno. 8. 34. Ye cannot serve two masters.

Q. Is that all the scripture that teaches the second work?

A. No sir, there are a great many more, it would fill a large volume to give them all, I will give some more in Heb. 12.

Q. Why I never could never see it taught there?

A. Yes wonderfully. For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth. — Ver. 6.

Q. Hold now, what does He mean by every son whom He receiveth?

A. Every one who becomes a son of God.

Q. How do we become a son?

A. But as many as receive Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even as many as believe on His name. — Jno, 1:12.

Q. What is necessary to receive the chastening?

A. To be a son of God.

Q. Does every son receive chastisement?

A. For what son is he whom the Father chasteneth not. But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards and not sons. — Heb. 12:7, 8.

Q. Yes I see that we must be sons before we are chastised, but why then are we chastised?

A. For they, verily, for a few days chastised us after their own pleasure: but He for our profit, that we might be partakers of His holiness. — Ver. 10.

Q. What then is required in order to be partaker of His holiness?

A. 1st, To be a son, or converted.

2nd. To receive the chastisement.

The parity language is: we are not partalers or His holiness without first receiving the chastisement.

Q. I accept the Word of God, and see it is the Word. Now what is the effect of this work?

A. 1st, It makes us pure in heart as the apostles. — Acts, 15:8, 9.

2nd, It makes us all one. “And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the Word of God with boldness, and the multitude of them that believed, were of one heart and one soul etc, — Acts, 4:31, 32. So we being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. — Rom. 12:4. For by one spirit are we all baptised into one body etc. — 1 Cor. 12 13. Now I beseech you brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind, and the same judgment. — 1 Cor. 1:10. Follow peace with all men, and holiness without which no man shall see the Lord. — Heb. 12:14. How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, etc. — Heb. 2:3. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of Heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. — Matt. 7:21.

Q. What is the will of the Father?

A. For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication, — 1 Thess. 4:3. If any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” — Rev. 22:19.

Dear Brethren: — I feel that it would be to the glory of God for me to tell my experience through the Trumpet. I am saved and sanctified through the precious blood of Jesus Christ. Oh, how glad I am that I can testify to the life we find in Christ, because once I was lost, but now I am found. Hallelujah to God and the Lamb forever and ever! My soul is set at liberty, and the slaying power of Almighty God has been displayed in me. I am dead to the world, and I see that the trifling things of this earth are of little worth, compared with salvation. I am dead to all the customs and fashions of this world, and to those who hate the humbling cross, and to their scoffs and sneers, and freed from all slavish fears. O praise the Lord for this real victory I have in my soul! When I came to Jesus to be sanctified, I was shown that if Christ would live and reign in me, like Him, I must be crucified. I thought how hard it would be for me to die to self, and to all things that would bind me to earth; But yet it seemed that my soul was at stake, and if I did not give up all but Jesus, I would sink to my doom. I cried “Oh Lord, I am bound for Heaven; begin at once to drive the nails, nor heed the groans, my flesh may writhe, and make its moans; go world and all that is Thine, I am my Saviour’s, and He is mine;” for that awful thought eternity, came flashing before me. O long, endless eternity! As these dreadful thoughts came to me, there came a ray of hope; Jesus Christ is the mediator of peace and the foundation of holiness. He it is who delivereth us from the wrath to come. O praise the Lord and shout for joy all ye His people.

Your sister in Christ.

NEW CHURCH TRACT.

—:o:—

WE have just printed a new tract by D. S. Warner, of nearly 40 pages the size of the Sabbath tract. It is carefully written, and very forcibly shows, the Divine origin, foundation, head, door, membership, organization, holiness, and unity of the Church, and the basis of unity. It also distinguishes between the True Church, and all sects. Shows the evil of Schisms, and proves the perfection and practicability of the Church, as founded by Christ, and set forth in the New Testament, without any man-made machinery, creeds, systems and manipulations. It refutes the falsehood that we have to be a sect, and nails every thing down to the Word.

Would to God that we could send it free every where. But it costs paper, ink, mailing expense etc. But we put it down just as cheap as we can, to cover expenses, and what we may give to the poor who cannot pay.

THE AGE TO COME, AND MILLENNIUM TRADITION,

Refuted by the inspired Word of God. This is a new tract, of 56 pages just printed in this office. Written by D. S. Warner. It is very clear and strong, containing an extensive amount of scripture. Proving that the coming of Christ, is near, and will bring the end of time, and the eternal destiny of all men. That there is no genera reign of righteousness promised in the Bible, to take place on the earth, neither before, nor after Christ’s coming. No age to come. This work should be extensively circulated. Thousands of souls are being deceived by the lie that an age to come will save the souls of all men, who desire to serve sin in this age. CAMP-MEETING AT ST. JAMES, MO.

COMMENCING Sept. 21, and continue as long as the Lord wills. The treatment the saints received on the camp several miles from that place two years ago, from a masked mob, has been overruled, to the glory of God, hence there is a great desire for our return. The people will give the Fairground free, which contains a very large seated pavillion, and other buildings convenient for the people to camp. We feel that the moving in the minds of the people there, is of the Lord, and we are led to go. We hope to meet a large concourse of saints at that place. The dear ones we met two years ago from Dent Co. and elsewhere, and others we have never seen in the flesh. Come every body who loves God and His truth, all who know God and all who desire to acquaint yourself with Him. O let this be a glorious feast of heavenly things! We believe it will be a glorious time. Special teaching needed in the camp two years ago, left but little time to bring out the deep things of prophecy and Revelation, which is our special calling to give the people. But with all our teaching and labors, complete salvation is the important object and chief battle cry. We expect the deliverance of a multitude of souls. We earnestly beseech as many as possible of the dear ministerial saints to come up to the help of the Lord in this glorious battle. We are told the pavilion will seat four or five thousand, and there is a great interest in the meeting there.

St. James is located on the Frisco, (St. Paul & San Francisco) R. R., one hundred miles west of St. Louis. We hope reduced rates will be secured on that line. For any information desired, address Bro. J. H. Morrison, St. James, Mo.

SOME TIME ago some brethren made inquiries in regard to making the TRUMPET OFFICE, a stock company, of which mention was made in the TRUMPET. After considering the matter and looking to God to know His will, we felt it was not in the order of the Lord to form such a company. The plan seemed very plausable; and to some it seemed the best way of removing the indebtedness, and placing the OFFICE on more substantial footing. Yet such a course would be binding to the parties, and open avenues for the entrance of the enemy. By the help of the Lord, we desire to have this work kept pure, and in His order, and we have faith in God to believe He will in some way provide the necessary means to cary on the work, and more freely spread the Gospel truth throughout the land. We wish to say, that all money sent in as donations, or otherwise, will be used as the donor directs, and nothing will be used for personal gain. We would not ask any one for means, nor feel free to receive such, unless it is given with a free will, and in the name of Jesus. Some brethren and sisters have expressed a desire to aid us in the work of the Lord, by giving of their means with which the Lord has blessed them. To such as do not wish to make donations, can purchase much needed machinery, type, etc., and place it in the office, and own it themselves, and thus be working for the Master, with their means, and God will bless the efforts put forth. We have long felt the great need of tracts, on holiness, present truth, etc., being scattered throughout the land in abundance, that souls may be awakened, and delivered from the darkness of sin. With our limited means we have only been able to send out a few thousand free tracts occasionally, and about $100 worth of Trumpets free each month. We feel the Lord would be glorified in establishing a Tract Fund, for the purpose of sending out tracts free, and all donations of any amount, sent in for that purpose will be used in that way. And we trust God will stir up the hearts of the people in that direction, so we will be able to send out tracts by the million.

We have just puchased a Wire stitching machine, for making books and tracts, which cost us $300. The purchase was made by paying two thirds cash, and the remainder to be paid in 30 days. And we believe the Lord will provide the means by that time, to pay the remainder. This machine will save much labor in making tracts, but it will cost as much as usual to do the printing. We have just printed several thousand 16 page tracts on the “SECOND work of GRACE,” which we would love to send out free, and we have others ready for publication. Dear brethren, we feel the Lord moving us out in this work, and we must walk out by faith, and aid in the rescuing of perishing souls, and give all honor to Him who doeth all things well.

SEEKING IMPRESSIONS.

—:o:—

JESUS Christ is the commander and and leader of His people. First, He leads us by His Word. Whatever is plainly taught in the Word of God, we need no special impression to obey; the true child of God does not ask nor wait for them. Thus saith the Lord, and that is enough. The Spirit of truth naturally guides us into all truth, just as fast as truth is apprehended. When plain duly is presented in the Word, it is always a false spirit, that waits for an impression, whether to walk in it or not, and such course opens the heart for the spirit of devils to come in and say “it is nonessential.” That is trying the Word by the spirits, instead of trying the spirits by the Word of God. The Word need not be tried, “forever it is settled in Heaven. The spirits need to be tried, “because all spirits are not of God.”

Second, Jesus leads us by enlightened good sense, and sanctified judgment. It is written: “the meek will He guide in judgment.

God has given us reason and judgment, and He does not set aside those divinely created powers in the ordinary leadings of His children. The whole plan of salvation is designed to restore to its normal condition, and proper function and use every God-created power we possess, and thus honor the Creator. If the Spirit of God, were to raise us up above our regular use of common sense and judgment that were to set aside the workmanship of God and dishonor the Creator. Therefore let all wholly sanctified and consecrated men and women go straight forward in the line of duty, and “do what your hands find to do,” and when you know work is needed, do not tease God for impressions whether to do the same or not. Such a course is superstitious, and throws open a door for the devil to come in with his impressions. It is a principle in the government of God never to use the special, when the ordinary means are sufficient. Therefore when you know a thing is plainly commanded, or yon know a service is needed and expected of you, let God lead you through your common sense, and do not seek an impression or sign, or in either case you bid for impressions from the other spirits. The cause is the Lord’s, and not ours, therefore when God is easy, you need not be worrying; when He is willing to let your judgment take its course, you need not be seeking for impressions and revelations.

Third, The Lord communicates His will to us, when necessary, by visions, and revelations. This way of leading is special, and only used when the ordinary means cannot meet the demand. Let no one be over anxious for visions and revelations, lest the devil should respond to your desire, as an angel of light, and give you visions that will mislead and deceive your soul. Keep your eye on the Lord, and rest assured that He knows when it is proper and necessary to give you these things.

Fourth, God often helps us to arrive at a knowledge of His will by His providences. If our judgment should incline to direct us out of the best course, God often interposes by some providential interference, until He can make us understand just what His will is, never fret therefore when your way seems closed.

Fifth, And finally, we observe that God leads us by direct impressions. This is also a specialty, and not to be expected in every step of life’s duty. It is the perversion of this matter of impressions that has led us to write this item. God can and does give His children very clear impressions, when He sees fit, but it is a puffed up spirit that is talking about receiving impressions, or at least a degree of delusion. We have known persons who would pry into some ones condition, ask others about them, until they would get hold of some defect either real or imaginary, and then come to the person on whom they have collected items, and say: “I have an impression,” or, “God shows me that you are thus and so.” “You have a free-love spirit,” or you have this or that, or lack this or that. All such work is abominable hypocricy. In most cases it springs from a vainly inflated heart, and is practiced to make an impression that the impression hunter is more than ordinarily righteous, and gifted. I once read a letter, where a brother spoke of another claiming to have received an impression about matters and things, when a good many miles absent. And the writer remarked that lie did not doubt the statement, because it only cost two cents for some one to send the person an impression by mail.

We have met parties that talk about their impressions until it became disgusting to people of good sense. What era comes to pass, they had an impression that it would be. Whatever looks very probable, they have an impression will take place. Such are asking God for impressions for every transaction of life’s business. They want an impression from God which way to go, and which foot to put forward first when they start. This is a puffed up mind, who wishes to seem more wonderfully lead of God than any one else. Just as sure as a person wants impressions for every thing, the devil will furnish him with them. Such will be imagining lies, and things of naught. May God deliver all such from their delusion and deception of the devil.

We wish to show another erroneous looking for of impressions. When any of God’s ministers have assumed the holding of a line of meetings, which the Lord has led them to undertake, and after going a part of the tour, they stop and ask God for an impression, whether they shall finish the tour or not, having received nothing to the contrary, we must in the presence of God, declare the cause an erroneous one. It betrays the confidence which God’s children must repose in eachother. God not being pleased to have them ask any such thing, withholds the same, and they conclude to go no further, and thus disappoint the people at the next places, laying the one who had arranged the meetings and those who published them, liable to censure and serious blame, and cripple the confidence of t..

Page 3

confidence of the people in that country. All this because God did not indulge them in an impression, they had no business to seek for.

Now we say this: when a line of work is depending upon you, which God has led you to undertake, never stop to ask for impressions, go right forward, “what your hands find to do, do with your might.” Take it for granted that the line of work before you is the course of God’s will. And should God wish to turn you aside from that line of march He can do so, by vivid impressions, or other means as He sees fit, and He will do this without seeking any impression in the matter. A positive communication from God, forbidding you to go to a meeting where you were expected, is the obly relief to duty. Simply absence of impressions to go, does not clear your soul of the blood of s0uls, and the cause of Christ at stake; for when you are expected to go, and have as good as agreed to go, you have no more business to ask God for an impression of duty, than a man has for asking God for an impression whether he shall pay a just debt or not. Let us do the work that God has set before us, and give no place to the devil to relieve us of the responsibility upon you. Amen!

WE ADMONISH ONE,

George P Wilson of Cooperville Mich. to become delivered from every penurious, picking, contentious, faultfinding spirit. We met him at the Bangor camp-meeting, and found him out of the fellowship of the Church of God, talking and prating about on the outside of the family of God. Siding with certain who have since confessed that they were not right, and allowing the devil to use him to obstruct the efforts of the salvation of such. And now comes to us the deplorable news that he was largely the cause, or at least the agitator of a contentious schism that arose at Hesperia Mich. which much hindered the work of salvation. We are happy to cherish the hope that the dear soul is not wilfully wrong, but he is under a blind pernicious legalistic spirit, in which he imagines himself more straight for God than any one else, And. just fulfills the words of Isa. 29:21. “That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of nought.” And in the preceding verse we are told that such must be cut off. But we trust our dear Bro. will be delivered; we pledge him our love and prayers, and ask all saints to pray for him to get delivered and become useful in the fellowship of Christ and all His saints. God bless his soul for. Jesus sake. Amen!

NEWS FROM THE FIELD

_____

St. James, Mo. Sept. 3, ’89

Dear Saints: — We are here in Jesus name. Commenced meeting last Sabbath in a school-house where we had been wonderfully blessed of God. Some dear souls have been pardoned, others sanctified, and the saints made to rejoice. On our way from Ind. here, we had some very precious seasons; the Lord has been with us every where in mighty power. Hallelujah! The Lord would have us report to the dear ones that there are a few dear sanctified souls near Brownstown, Ill. that would like for some one sent of God to come there. They now have a house open for the people of God. We did not get to have very many meetings there because the house was not ready. Father and Bro. Carter helped to enclose the house, and we had a few very precious meetings in it. We speak of it so that if any of God’s ministers pass that way, they may stop there and find a warm welcome. Also the saints in Vandalia would rejoice greatly to have some one stop there; but they have no house especially for worship, but would do the best they could. They are filled with faith and the Holy Ghost; full of fire and the love of God. A large field is open in that part. Pray much for us. We rejoice in God’s salvation to-day. Hallelujah to Jesus. Our address is St. James, Mo.

Mattie Bolds.

—:o:—

THE Cheshire, Allegan Co. Mich. meeting was attended with good results. A few consecrations were made, devil’s cast out, the sick were healed, the Church strengthened and encouraged. Five were baptized; Bro. James Schoolcraft was ordained elder of the Cheshire church.

A. B. Palmer.

AT the close of the Beaver Dam camp- meeting, our Company, accompanied by Bro. J. and sister mary Cole, and sister Kaser, came to Roanoke Ind. where we held a grove meeting near the village. There was a large attendance of people some nights, and on Sabbath, and good order. God blessed the preaching of the Word. Many received light, a few souls were saved, some restored, and several sanctified wholly. Some healing was also wrought by the power of the Lord, as is common at all places. The meeting closed with a precious little ordinance meeting in tire saints house of worship, on Bro. Zent’s place. It was a sweet and glorious communion together with Jesus. The Lord has a very precious church in Huntington Co., and our stay among them, and their great kindness toward us, and loving care for us will never be forgotten. O may Heaven’s blessings rest upon them forever, and may their pure love and holy peace be spread abroad, and possess many hearts in that country. We think that God is moving a winters campaign in that country through Bro’s. Leininger and Gast. Amen! There is a good field for the Gospel

One spot on the cause in that country is the character of a Mr. Gachette and wife, who reside at Columbia City, Ind., and who have been trying to classify themselves with the Church of God; but had not the fellowship or confidence of the Church, save a few persons were holding on to them, to the detriment of their souls. This man, and wife, especially the latter, gave themselves as healing instruments. She is nothing but a graceless Spiritualist, laving very social communications with devil’s, under the garb of disembodied spirits. And these angels from the pit give her license to smoke her pipe, and yet imagine herself holy. The spirits have revealed to her an imaginary heaven somewhere in the devil’s empire, where the people are engaged in about the same pursuits and labors we are in this world, and are surrounded by their cats, dogs, etc. We met them at a meeting some two years ago, and had some fellewship with him, thought him honest; but had no fellowship with her. Their healing efforts are about all failures, and we must renounce the woman as of the devil, and not of God; and charge all saints to turn away from such.

God bless His lovely saints in Huntington Co. From there we came to

DEERFIELD CAMP-MEETING.

Here the saints have built a large and comfortably seated pavillion, and other buildings. But we saw dearly the first night of the meeting that the powers of hell claimed the supremacy over the Church; and the hosts of darkness were anticipating a high carnival of devilment during the meeting. Our soul at once became burdened for victory over the infernal powers of hell. And like Ezra and Nehemiah, “we made our prayers unto God,” the Almighty, and soon got the victory in our soul. Finally relying upon the Almighty’s arm, and using the means that He has proscribed in His Word, namely the chief authority, the beginning of the wicked spirits were subdued, and held in check, and the order was very good, considering the many enemies who would love to have disturbed us. O praise the God of Heaven, who fighleth our battles for us, and stilleth the rage of the foe. He overthroweth the counsel of the wicked, and maketh even our enemies to be at peace with us. The meeting was a great and wonderful victory on the Lord’s side. A great many souls, who had been either captured or entangled by the devil, were triumphantly delivered by the mighty power of God, and caused to shout His praises. Sinners were saved, and many souls wholly sanctified; and serious obstructions to the cause of Christ were wonderfully removed. Truly there was great joy in Heaven over the trophies of redeeming grace in this first camp-meeting at Deerfield. The fruits of it are widespread; many go home rejoicing in Jesus, with a new experience in their heart, to tell the love of God, in different Counties in Ind. and Ohio. The mighty tide of salvation is rolling on with an irresistable force. Hallelujah! Hallelujah!! Let the billows of Heaven’s powers sweep away the refuge of lies, uncover the dust of wickedness, and bring forth the honest and humble in heart, into the glorious evening light of God.

There were present ministerial workers: Bro’s. Haner, Achor, Schell, Wickersham, Bro. J. Cole, sister Mary Cole, Bro. Otto Bolds, Bro. Leininger, Bro. Gast, and our Co. A few were baptized, a number healed.

On Saturday eve, we had a very solemn and precious ordinance meeting. The meeting closed on Sabbath afternoon, Aug. 25th. A great concourse of people were on the ground, and the multitude listened to the truth of God with much interest. Then came the farewell greeting, and all the holy witnesses, with affectionate embraces and many tears of love, took the parting hand. Hallelujah! God bless all the dear kind saints in these parts and reward their kindness to us. O may the battle be ready to be set in order next year. With the glory and prestige this meeting closes. Amen!

Shelby, Neb. Sept. 3, 1889.

Dear Trumpet Brethren: — We are still praising God for full salvation, and a reasonable portion of health. Hallelujah!

We returned to this place over one week ago, from Wallace, Lincoln Co. Neb. where the Lord helped us to give the people some of His holy Word. A Mr. Shaw kindly gave us his hall to hold meetings. We had a blessed time. Wallace is a very nice thriving little town, with very kind people in it. The Lord blesed our labors in the restoration of sister Triloff back to the two-fold grace of God; and leaving conviction rest upon many of the poor souls that are starving in babylon.

Dear Bro. John Daugherty, who is laboring with us in the Lord, is doing good work for Jesus. We have the promise of the hall any time in the future, if it is not in use. We believe there will be a good opening for salvation work there in the future.

From there we came to Hastings, Neb. Being impressed of the Lord to tarry some days; so we remained five days. One or the other of us preaching every night; having three services on Lord’s day. We found some precious dear souls which we believe will walk in all the light of God as fast as it comes to their understanding. The dear ones have bought a store building, and have moved it on a leased lot, and are fixing it up for a place in which to worship God; in which we believe the Lord is well pleased; where also we expect to return some time in the future, the Lord willing. We have a call to Almena, Kan., from Bro. and sister Barham, for a tabernacle meeting which we expect to hold right after the Table Rock camp-meeting. The Lord is wonderfully opening up the work in this country. May the Lord send more laborers into His vineyard. We expect a glorious feast here at camp-meeting. The Lord bless all the dear saints everywhere, is our prayers. Amen!

Yours in Christ.

Hesperia, Mich. Aug. 29, ’89.

Dear Saints: — May God abundantly bless you all in Christ Jesus. Amen!

I arrived at this camp on the evening of the 22, and found the meeting moving on with success, through the labors of Bros. Shelly and Reeves. Seventeen souls consecrated to the Lord; some for justification, others for perfect holiness. On Saturday the power of God to heal was wonderfully manifested, and quite a number were healed, also others since then; one of which was sister R. Stowell, who had been troubled with a very had roaring in her head for a week before the C. M. was perfectly healed, so she could hear as plain as ever. Before she was healed, she was sometimes almost perfectly deaf. O praise the Lord for His wonderful goodness to His children, and to all men. There were saints from other parts present. On sabbath morning our beloved Bro. and sister Walters, from St. Louis, and Bro. Stowell’s family from Croton, came on the ground, who also helped in the work. May God ever bless, lead, and use them to His glory. A great and glorious work would no doubt have been accomplished for God, had it not been for a disturbance brought in by certain contentious spirits which hindered the work of salvation. We went to the lake, where six saints were baptized in the name of the Lord, by our dear Bro. Shelly; they were all blest in the act of the ordinance. Praise the Lord! There was a good turn out of people on the Sabbath, and in the evenings. Much respect was shown for the truth, and in general there was good order in the meetings. May God richly bless and reward the brethren, and the people, for their kindness and labors of love. Pray for me.

Your saved and sanctified Bro.

Xenia, Ind., Sept. 13, ’89.

Dear Brethren: — God bless you, and all the dear saints everywhere. Amen! I came from Deerfield to visit my parents at Jonesboro, and found since I was there two weeks previous, they were getting considerable light. God bless and help them to understand the blessed truth. The evening light had never been preached about there, but the way seems to be opening for it. While there, I went to Fairmount to visit some friends and relations, and try to work for Jesus. The Wesleyan Methodist conference was in session, of which I used to be a member, also the editor of the new paper (Wesleyan Herald) was to be tried; which is causing no little excitement. I went in observe, and I got my satisfaction pretty soon. The conference is divided on the doctrine of the second work of grace. Some for, and others against it. Both sides strong. They decided in order to hold their sect together, it makes no difference which way they believe, just so they do not cause any disturbance about it, nor work against the church, (sect.) O just to see the the abomination, of babylon. They will receive members in full fellowship, and let them believe or not believe, just so they pay tribute to their god. (Worship the great image.) I never was more disgusted with babylon, as when watching the working of that body. This expression was often used: “Our church.” They would often ask the priests in the examination, if he observed the rules of our dicipline, but never once to my knowledge, if he observed the teaching of the Word of God. “He exalteth himself above all that is called God.” One poor priest among them bound by their delusive spirit, while being examined was asked if he was tinctured with come-outism. He said no. They said that we have heard, and is it true, that you advised some of the converts not to join the church? He said, he had advised some not to join unless the Lord led them to. This same man told a brother a few weeks before, that he believed it was right to leave the sect, but the time had not come yet to make that step. We got hold of him and gave him an awful warning, showing him his condition. He testified in conference he was wonderfully saved and free, but in talking to us, he could not claim it positively, but showed much doubts of his being satisfied. He at last said if he saw he was getting into the dark, he would get out. We did what we could to enlighten some of our friends in the cages of deception. I give here some of their sayings. “We do not pay $1.00 per capite, and if we do not stir up we will die out.” Well I believe it; but the stirring wants to be spiritual instead of financial. Another, “As wicked a man as I ever saw, joined the church and it was the means of his conversion.” That would make the Lord a terrible person, for such a wicked person to get into him, for the church is the body of Christ. He says: I believe in taking the worst of sinners into the church and get them converted. Poor blind guides, they are like the blind cyclops of Homer groping their way amidst the darkness of babylon. Another: — “A founder of a church has a right to say what it shall be called.” That is true, but God founded all the church there is: and He called it the church of God. Another: — “Taking sinners into the church is swamping it, and has made more infidels than any thing else.” Well that indeed is a conglomerated in ass of horrid putrifaction, sinners and christians together calling it the body of Christ. His body would not be very holy in that condition would it? God have mercy on them. Paul says: Christ loved the Church and gave His life for it; that He might sanctify it with the washing of the water by the Word, that He might present it to Himself a glorious Church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. Now this Wesleyan does not fill the discriptions of the church; we cannot call that the church, nor join it. Several we have talked with, have admitted the truth on sanctification and the church, and desire more light. Some sinners manifested conviction for salvation that never could understand it before. But we lack some place to hold meeting there. If God would provide a tabernacle there could be much good done no doubt. We are now at Xenia, Ind. pitched in battle against that great city Babylon and Sodom. We are holding in a Campbellite meeting-house, having good attendance and quite good interest. Some wanting purity, and some wanting to escape from babylon. I expect to return to Kan., but will have to remain here till the Lord opens the way for us to get there Pray God to have His own way. We are out for God alone. Praise God for His great love wherewith He loved us. Pray for me all saints.

Pittsville, Pa., Aug. 23, ’89.

Dear Brethren: — God bless and keep you. We left Beaver Dam, Ind., in company with brother and sister Dillon, and sister Bear, for Jerry City O., where we arrived in due season, and found some of the dear ones in a very poor condition, but the Lord was gracious and answered prayer in their behalf and rescued them from the snare of the devil, into which they had fallen, and we believe they are better established in the faith, with more wisdom concerning the devices of the devil and and his wiles. There were several saved and sanctified during the meeting for which we give God all the glory. The meeting was a success. Praise the Lord! We hope the dear brethren will be wise concerning sect holiness professors, who are deceived of the devil. We hope they will “be wise as serpents and harmless as doves,” as Paul says: “be not unwise but understanding what the will of the Lord is.”

New Hampshire, O.

Dear Saints Greeting: — The Sidney meeting closed with victory on the Lord’s side. We found a great deal of prejudice there against the true way, but our God was in our midst and gave us victory over all opposing elements. Praise His name forever. The Lord begun the work by making the crooked straight, and the lame whole. When the camp was thus cleansed, the enemy’s rank began to waver, and soon they were broken, and a few souls were saved.

On the last day of the meeting, we went to the water where eight souls followed the Lord in baptism. The following evening the ordinances of feet washing, and the Lord’s supper were observed, in the grove. Showers of the richest blessings were poured out from the windows of heaven upon us as we followed the Lord in this sacred work.

Pray for us all ye saints of the Most High, that God may bless our labors to the salvation of many souls.

Dear Saints: — I feel led to testify through the TRUMPET once more, that I am saved through and through; and am kept by the mighty power of God through faith unto salvation, ready to be revealed. Praise God!

Having just returned from the Jamestown meeting, I report the wonderful victory through the meeting. There were a few converted, and several consecrations for sanctification. Some received the real joy. O how glorious it is to step out on the promises of God. Sister Horton, who has been a faithful Christian from her childhood, was converted very young, sanctified at 17 years of age; advocated full salvation during all her life in captivity in babylon; and when sin swayed pre-eminem over the sect to which she belonged — namely the M. E. — and become the habitations of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and the cage of every unclean and hateful bird, — Rev. 13:2, she done all she could to maintain spiritual life and to heal the malady that sin had brought in. But alas! in vain. “We would have healed babylon, but she is not healed: for sake her, and let us go every one into his own country.” — Jer. 50:9. Our own country is the land in which we were born. Every child of God was born in Zion, of the free woman. “Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all,” — Gal. 4:26. All through the dark and cloudy days the children of Zion were taken captive in babylon; and babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed. And now we hear God speaking through the month of the prophet Zech. “Deliver thyself O Zion, that dwellest with the daughters of Babylon.” “And I heard another voice from heaven saying, come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” — Rev. 18:4. Thank God this dear soul heard the voice of the Lord and was delivered. O may the people see the great darkness in babylon; and may they hasten to escape before the great day comes upon them. Many of the dear saints of God from Cheshire and Diamond Springs, were present, whom the Lord blessed in testamonies; also dear Bro’s. Wooden and Butler, whom the Lord used last winter in teaching the Word to the people, and God raised up a glorious Church in that place; and I pray God that the many who were under conviction may repent of their sins, and the Lord will add them to the Church. From your brother sanctified, made white and tried.

DOING THE WILL OF GOD.

—:o:—

I feel this morning like calling you all in, with me, to search a part of the 13th chapter of John. Let us begin with verse 10. I wish first to say, I believe that the willfuly blind neglect, of this Church ordinance, one of the first, if not the real cause of the ‘‘falling away’’ from purity, spirituality and power, since the apostolic days. For it will readily be seen by reading Paul’s first epistle to Tim. 5:10. that they observed it in his ministry. As he made it a test among others of worthy widowhood, to recommend to the care of the Church. “If she hath washed the saints feet.” And thus we see it was most certainly observed more than fifty years after, being instituted by our Lord so to do. And that word “saints feet” does away with babylon wresting of the scriptures, by saying: “O that was a hot dusty country! yes in-deed. And no need of our Lord instituting a custom of kind civility, which was already observed and established, as a national custom of kindness; like our setting a chair for our friends and vistors. The Lord never dealt in generalities, nor repetitions, of no importance.” Well we will consider verse 10. Here Christ instituted an ordinance in the Church, which shall aid in separating “the pure from the vile.” He that is clean, need not to wash his feet, for the purpose of cleanliness, for he is every whit clean, but for this ordinance, or “example’s” sake. Not for the filthiness of any one of the eleven, but one of your number is not clean, (Judas) “for ye are not all clean.” For only the meek will either submit to, or obey this rule, and thus the selfish, and proud sinner will be kept from “eating unworthily,” “and eating damnation to their souls.” The meek will He guide in judgment. Praise God! “Through meekness, and the fear of God, is riches, and honor, and life.” Hallujah! “For I have given you an Example.” Notice: this is in the singular number, not examples of meekness and brotherly love, as babylon teachers limit it. But an example, that ye should do as I have, here and now, done to you. Verse 17, “If ye know these things” — Speaking now of partaking of the emblems of the body, and blood, and of the ordinance of feet washing.” These things both of which I have here instituted. “Happy are ye if ye do them.” Not that spasmodic joy of the Lord, which is your strength “such as is more than meat, and drink; to do my Father’s will. The same joy described by Paul in Romans 5:2, 3 and 8:32-39, and Phil. 2:15-18. Jesus said if ye keep the whole law, and offend in one point, ye are guilty of all!” and yet men and women expect to limit Christ’s rules, and expressed will, to suit their own depraved hearts, and blindness down to less than half its import, and yet expect to receive the prize at the end of the race. They form man made rules, and rituals; called Church doctrines, and Theology, and then wonder why the Church is so powerless, and wonder and devise modes to adopt, in order to have a better state of things. The last days hasten! Sound out, far and near. Be ye also ready.

Your sister in Christ.

THE DUTY OF PARENTS.

—:o:—

Dear Saints: — I am saved this morning, praise the Lord forever! I feel like writing a few words in the way of bring- up children. Paul says in Eph. 6:4, bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord; and to say we cannot do this, is to say we cannot measure up to the Word of God. I am sorry to say: within my observation, some professing to be saints, let their children run around in time of worship, and do not make them sit down and hear the the Word of God read. If I had children old enough to read, I should have them take a part in the reading of God’s Word around the family altar, and get them interested in it and explain the Word to them, and teach them the way of the Lord. God holds us accountable for the way we bring up our children, just as much as He does any other command, and yet there is not a command in God’s Word that is abused as this one. Some say they can take the little Book and eat it all, and at the same time they do not measure up to the Word in this respect. God says, in Prov. 22:15, “Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall observe it far from him.” Now what are we going to do; are we going to believe God’s Word, and measure up to it; or are we going to prove to the world that God’s commandments are too strong for us, and we can-not live up to them.

In 1 John 5:3, it reads: “For this is the love of God that we keep His commandments, and His commandments are not grievous.” Now I believe we can live up to God’s Word. We must not indulge our children in things that would have a tendency to draw their hearts from God; but we must do all we can to incline their hearts to that which is good. We cannot change their hearts from nature to grace; God only can do that; but we can instill a principle in their hearts that never will leave them.

“Withhold not correction from the child for if thou beatest him with a rod he shall not die; thou shalt beat him with the rod and shalt deliver his soul from hell. — Prov. 23:13, 14. “He that spareth his rod hateth his son, but he that loveth him, chasteneth him betimes.” — Prov. 13:24.

“Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying. — Prov. 19:18. The rod and reproof give wisdom, but the child that is left to himself bringeth his mother to shame. — Prov. 29:15. Correct thy son and he will give thee rest, yea he shall give delight unto thy soul. We know those who have children who have been left to themselves until they are nearly grown up, before they got saved. It is different with them, but take the small child, we can bring them up according to the God’s Word, and God’s Word does not make any allowances for the time in which we live. Amen! Your sister saved and sanctified.

Dear Saints: — Grace and peace be multiplied unto you, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

I feel thankful to God that I can testify that He has called me out from all the abominations of this world, and has cleansed me from all the filthiness of the flesh and Spirit; and now I am purified wholly by one Christ Jesus. My present life is settled on the rock of the everlasting covenant. I am no more a stranger nor a foreigner, but a fellow citizen with the saints, and of the household of God, and built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets; Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone.

Dear readers it means a great deal to take the whole Bible for our guide; but we cannot abide where Christ is, without observing all He has commanded us. He has said by St. John: “If you love me you will keep my commandments.” It is certain if any one does not keep His commandments it is because they do not love Him, and they are deceived by the devil; but such work as this has no excuse before God at the judgment . Let us see what the Scripture says about it. St. Paul tells the Galatian Brethren, not to be deceived, God is not mocked, for whatsoev- a man soweth that shall he also reap, for he that soweth to the flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit, shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Is it not sowing to the flesh for people to gather and invent some kind of a creed, to please themselves, and call it holy religion? I say yes, and the Word of God says so too. The Savour Himself said in the 4th of St. Luke: “that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.” We can see by these few words of scripture that the Word of God is our spiritual life, and not only that, but also our Judge. “The word which I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. — John 12:48. But the devil has deceived the people in our days, and makes them believe they have to be guided by the-Spirit, and not by the Word. They reject the Word of God and cling to their spiritual elements, whether they have the right spirit or not. Their teachers uphold them in it and do the same themselves.

They have here in Marine City a small congregation which call themselves Daniel’s Band, but they seem to have very little respect for God, and behave themselves very unseemly. They will not listen to the call of the Word of God, when He says: “Come out from among them, and be not partakers of their evil deeds.” The Word tells us we are just as guilty, being partakers of their evils, as doing the very act ourselves. If we bid them God speed, we will be partakers of their evil deeds. Let us keep close to God and His Word, for fear that the devil, as an angel of light, might deceive some of us; for he would deceive the very elect if possible. let us never be discouraged; if all our relatives and friends turn back, let us cling to the Word and Spirit of God, and let us pray for those who persecute us.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — My testimony is that I am saved by the blood of Christ, sanctified by the Word, kept by the power of God, and rejoicing in the love of my blessed Saviour. There are only a few of us at this place, but we are very thankful that there are enough of us to claim the blessing, when we meet for prayer-meeting. Praise God forever and ever.

Dear saints pray for us.

Dear Brethren: — God bless you all. I thank God for the gift of the Holy Ghost, and the salvation that makes this life happy. The wonderful love of God is growing deeper in the hearts of the holy people every where. A thousand tender chords unite our hearts in one, and the precious blood of Christ brings us so nigh. The Lord shall be unto thee an everlasting light, thy God, thy glory. Praise the Lord! There is no sin in, or about us, because the Lord is our light. This is our everlasting consolation, and He calls us into this everlasting glory through Christ. O hallelujah! Jesus is a real satisfying portion unto me. O bless God forever! You whom God has re-created your souls so recently, just let Him keep the house and He will make you all approved workmen. Let us be willing to suffer all things: Jesus was made perfect through suffering. Let us consider how Jesus suffered through temptation when satan presented sin to Him, who knew no sin; For in this He Himself hath suffered, being tempted; He is able to succour them that are tempted. Paul’s great desire was to have fellowship with the suffering of Christ — Phil. 3:10. Jesus said: “The disciple is not above His Master, but every one that is perfect shall be as his Master.” O glory! my soul responds and says amen! and amen!!

Pray for me, dear ones, that God will keep me humble and ready for every good word and work. Amen!

Dear Saints Greeting: — Three years ago last July, God for Jesus sake forgave all my sins. I became convicted of my sins by reading the blessed Word of God. It seems a miracle that I was saved, as never had any christian teaching at home; my parents, being believers in the spiritualists religion, who ignore the divinity of Jesus Christ; count Him no more than any other good man. Praise the name of the Lord! I have escaped from the power of the devil, Through Jesus Christ, who is the way, the truth, and the life; and He makes me free. Glory be to God forever and ever! I want to say since I started for Heaven I have never been a backslider. Since I have been saved, I love to pray without ceasing, and in all things give thanks. I know if we have the real Spirit of Christ we will love to worship God in Spirit and in truth, and if we have not the Spirit of God we are none of His. My present experience is, I am saved by the blood of Jesus, and sanctified by the Holy Ghost. I have made a complete surrender to God of all that I have or ever expect to have. The Lord has called me to preach His Gospel, and I am now ready to rush to the battle wherever the Lord may send. I would say, any one who desires our help in salvation work, please address

Dear Trumpet Readers: — I praise God for calling after me, when I was going down to death and destruction, and sweetly saved my soul. I am so glad that I heard: Come out of her my people. It is glory in my soul day by day, to over-come the trials and temptations of this world. His grace is sufficient to help me through.

Your saved Bro. Pray for me that I may keep low at the feet of Jesus.

Dear Saints: — Praise the Lord! I write my testimony for my bleessed redeemer who has redeemed me from my iniquities, and keeps me from the same. Glory to Jesus for ever and ever! He that believeth on the Son of God, has the witness in himself, we are of God, he that knoweth God heareth us. He that feareth, is not made perfect in love. We love Him, because He first loved us, and gave Himself for us. Hallelujah to His name! herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment, because as He is, so are we in this world. Hereby we know that He abideth in us, by the spirit which He hath given us. He that sayeth He abideth in Him ought himself so to walk, even as He walked, in all Godliness, and meekness forbearing and forgiving. Praise His name! follow peace with all men and holiness without which no man shall see the Lord. Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy; a men. Your free brother under the blood.

Dear Brethren: — May the mercy of God abide with you all. Amen! We have just returned home from a meeting where the blessed Lord gave Bro. Cox a discourse on the 19th chapter of Luke, which was very edifying to us. Oh how wonderful the Lord does let His Spirit accompany the Word, to the hearts of His children when it is preached in the spirit of love. Well I want to say to the glory of God that there is a small band of God’s little ones here who are worshiping God in Spirit and in the beauty of holiness. Glory be to God! We worship the God of the Bible. Oh how glorious it is to know that we have the abiding comforter with us at all times. Praise our God! for the evidence we have within us, that we are saved of God from all sin. Well this evidence is in my soul. Hallelujah to God! We see many frilling off while it makes us to mourn for, and pity them, yet it drives us nearer to God. We read in 1 John, 4:13. Hereby know we that we dwell in Him, and He in us, because He hath given us of His Spirit, then in the 16th verse He says: and we have known and believed that love, that God hath to us. God is love, and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God and God in him. Ver. 17, herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment, because as he is so are we in this world.” Dear ones the Word of God is very close, and it requires all we possess to live it. Oh how glad I am that His Spirit strove with me, until I made an effort, when He came and took up His abode in my heart, and said unto me, as unto Zaccheus, this day is salvation come unto this house.

Dear ones let us hold out the bread of eternal life to those who are lost in sin. Did you ever stop your work and go and talk salvation to your neighbor, and try to arouse him to his soul’s welfare? And thus give him something to think about in your absence? Oh what good you might do in a few moments interview with him. And when you go to town, do you ever think of putting one or two trumpets or little tracts in your pocket, then ask the Lord to dire.. them?

May the blessings of God rest and abide with all is … ..rayer. Amen!

Your brother in Christ.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — I was born of unsaved parents, but was taught to believe the Bible to be the Word of God, and was taught also to pray. From early childhood I had a longing to be a true child of God. At the age of thirteen while attending meetings held by the first baptist sect of Sharon Pa., where we lived at the time. I got under conviction, went forward, and was told to be baptised, and join the Church, and I would feel all right. I did not understand it, but struggled on the best I could. I looked on my professing neighbors, and comparing our lives with those of the unprofessing class, I could see ilo diflereive between us. After six years of striving, I got disgusted with the whole affairs, ..nd gave it up. Soon after the Lord opened the way, and with my husband moved to Michigan, where for the first time I heard real salvation taught. God wrought with my heart, and I was saved in Aug. 1884, and two months later I received the baptism of the Holy Ghost I shall never forget that day. It seemed to me that the Heavens were opened above my head, and wave after wave … glory filled my soul. I was completely melted out of self, and lost in the fathomless Ocean of God’s infinite love. O.. how I rejoiced and praised God. My very soul seemed melted within me. God cleansed me from all carnality, took away all pride, anger, and love of the world o.. of my heart; and killed me out to the opinions of men. Glory to God! It would take too much space to speak of all my experience since that time. But God h.. wonderfully led me, truly in paths that … knew not of. Being saved among th.. Free Methodists, not having the light … that time, I joined that society. But th.. winter God sent Bro. W. B. Grover in.. our community. I praise God for it. Th.. Lord wonderfully used him in letting th.. light on me. Oh how I do praise God f.. giving me a willing heart to accept th.. light when it came, and to-day finds m.. out free from all sects. Glory to God a.. the Lamb forever! The Free Methodist have fought the work here. Speaking against the true Gospel by word and pe.. I have always been in good standing among them, but just as soon as I took m.. name off their class book, I suddenly b.. came all “of the devil” in their eye. Praise the Lord! He is using their ow.. words to prove to me, what I otherwise could not have believed, how truly corrupt they were at heart. May the dear Lo.. forgive them, and save them is my prayer.
