TO THE BACKSLIDER.

_____

Oh heart once pregnant with celestial fire,
Oh bosom, once so full of peace and rest,
Behold the taunting, aching void,
The awful desolation in thy breast!

Once did that heart God and heaven beat.
And sacred did their fires upon its altar glow;
Once raptures from the upper glory world
Did bless that heart made whiter than the snow.

But now what sadness! what an awful change
Has come to that which Heaven’s love and grace enshrined:
What once had freedom in the love of God,
Is now in chains of misery confined!

Oh soul, bereft of Christ and all His love,
Flee ye to Him when Mercy’s voice doth call!
Regain the grace which Heaven willed to thee.
Lest into greater woes than these ye fall!

Be not content to grope in darkness drear.
While God aspires to give thee joys once more:
Choose not in hell to end a sad career.
When Jesus bids thee enter Heaven’s door.

The Spirit gently calls, “Dear one, come home;
The angels weep while you this dreadful course pursue;
No longer in your path of sadness roam,
The loving Savior wills a crown for you”

“MySpirit will not always strive with man,”
Says God, within His true and holy Word;
Obey it while it gently speaks to thee,
Lest thy petitions, too late, are not heard.

ONE BAPTISM.

_____

THOSE words in Eph. 4:5 have been explained in the past, but we are called upon again. for the sake of new readers, to explain the same.

The one question is, does it refer to literal or spiritual baptism? The Campbellites apply it to water, and say there is no baptism of the Spirit. The antiordinance isms apply it to the Spirit, and say that there is no water baptism. The former are correct, in denning the fine baptism as being literal, but both wings are in gross ignorance and error in their conclusions. There is a baptism of the Holy Spirit; there is another metaphorical baptism; namely, that of suffering. But the one baptism spoken of by the apostle is the one literal water baptism. We will give scriptural reasons why it is not the spiritual, and why it is the literal; and third, show how the language is consistent with all the kinds of baptisms taught in the New Testament.

THE ONE BAPTISM IS NOT THAT OF THE SPIRIT.

The apostle was showing the oneness and uniformity of the church; and he mentions several of the most prominent features of the Divine organization. “There is one body and one spirit.” No plurality of bodies, nor different spirits to animate them. There is no possible chance to be joined to different bodies, in Christ, for there is only “one body in Christ.” Rom. 12:5.

“One hope.” All the ransomed have the same hope set before them; hence no chance for division and strife here.

“One Lord.” No chance to divide in God’s church under different lords and heads.

“One faith.” No privilege for each to make or choose his own creed, and thus bring in division, and strife. The faith of God was once for all delivered to the saints by the Lord Jesus.

“One baptism.” No door was left open here for strife and division. None can raise the clamor, “My way of baptism is the best; for there is but one and the same rite of baptism as an expression and testimony of the one faith,”

“One God.” No chance to wrangle over different gods in the church; for there is only “One God and father of all.”

Now it is very evident the apostle did not allude to the Spirit when he said, there is “one baptism;” because he had already mentioned the Spirit.

Again the use of the word baptize in connection with the Spirit is a figure of speech, a metaphorical use of the word. Hence, if we apply the “one baptism,” to that of the Spirit, it would affirm that there is no other metaphorical baptism, which would contradict Christ who speaks of a baptism, overwhelming, of suffering for both himself and those who believe upon him. Matt. 22, 23. Mark 10:38, 39. Luke 12:50. It is therefore not true that there is but one spiritual or tropical baptism. And what is not true in fact, is not true at all.

Again, it is not true that the baptism of the Spirit, is one baptism. There is a baptism of an induction, which sets us into the church the body of Christ. And there is a baptism, overwhelming, and submerging in the Holy Spirit after we are in the body. These two are perfectly distinct from each other. In the first case the Spirit is the acting agent, the administrator, and we are immersed by him into Christ. 1 Cor. 12:13. Rom. 6:3. In the second case Jesus Christ is the administrator, and the Holy Spirit is the element into which we are submerged, — immersed. Matt. 3:11. Jno. 1:33. There is, therefore not one, but two distinct baptisms of the Spirit. Besides this, the baptism of the Holy Spirit, that follows the faith which purifies the heart, may be re-experienced time and again, as additional enduements and gifts of power and grace are received from the Lord. This sanctified souls know by experience; moreover it is clearly seen in the scriptures. But a short time after the first glorious baptism of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, the disciples experienced another similar epoch in their souls. Acts 4:31. The baptism of the Spirit is therefore not the one baptism of our text.

THE ONE BAPTISM IS LITERAL WATER BAPTISM.

We will now give scriptural evidences that the literal ordinance of baptism was alluded to. First it stands in immediate connection with faith. “One faith, one baptism.” Showing that it is that baptism that, in the New Testament order, follows faith in Christ, as an outward expression of the same. Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John.” “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.” Mark 16:16. “They that gladly received his word [believed] were baptized.” Acts 2:41. “When they believed * * * they were baptized.” Acts 8:12. “If thou believest with all thy heart thou mayest,” that is, be baptized. Acts 8:37. “And many of the Corinthians hearing, believed, and were baptized.” Thus the record runs. Baptism, that is, the literal ordinance regularly follows faith. “One faith, and one baptism.”

Second, it is a fact that Jesus instituted one and the same literal ordinance of baptism in his church for every believer to obey. He himself was literally baptized but once. Hence it was impossible for him, in that simple act, to set an example for two or three different actions of baptism. Therefore only “one baptism,” is backed up by the example of Christ. If sprinkling and pouring were also laws of righteousness in the kingdom of Christ, then it would have behooved him to set us an example of the same; for he said, when about to be “dipped by John into the Jordan.” (Emphatic direct from the Greek. Mark 1:9.) “Thus it behooves us to fulfil all righteousness.” He enjoined nothing without setting forth the same by example. Hence, he having been only once baptized, and that in the river, there is but one literal baptism set up by his example and authority.

We have already observed that in Eph. 4 the apostle sets forth the uniformity, oneness, and harmony of the church; that they should all endeavor to keep the unity of Spirit in the bonds of peace.” To exclude all divisions is the object here in view. Having all professed the one faith by the one and same baptism it were extremely inconsistent should they fail to show perfect oneness in their lives.

Now we will listen to the same apostle while he discourses upon the same subject to the Corinthians. In this case divisions had already occured, which calls forth his rebuke.

Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.

Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.

Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? — 1 Cor. 1:10-13.

Here is a practical application of the argument for unity where it was needed. He admonished the Ephesians to keep the unity of the Spirit; and to prevent the introduction of schisms, reminds them that they all received one and the same baptism. He rebukes schisms already introduced at Corinth, and reminds them how they had. all received one baptism, in the same name; and by their one baptism they had all professed the same faith, hence the inconsistency of their schisms and strife. There was perfect uniformity in the name in which they were baptized, and also in the manner of administration. And no one can deny that the apostle here alluded to literal water baptism; because the apostle says he administered the same to a few of them with his own hands. But no man can baptize with the Holy Spirit. It is a just and sensible rule in interpretation of scriptures, to always receive its teaching in its simple, plain and literal sense, excepting where the context requires a spiritual or figurative application. Accordingly, we should take it for granted that Paul meant literal baptism, in Eph. 4:5, there being nothing to direct the mind to any other conclusion, and in fact, as we have seen, to spiritualize here would contradict the Word elsewhere.

One thing yet remains to be considered. If the “one baptism” is the ordinance so named, how can we harmonize that fact with the baptisms of the Holy Spirit and of suffering? How can there be, at the same time,

“ONE BAPTISM,” YET “BAPTISMS.”

One thing is sure, dear reader, whether we can, by the help of God, make you understand this or not, you must confess the word of God is responsible for both ideas. The former, as we have seen, is in Eph. 4:5. The latter in the epistle to the Hebrews; which was written, according to the received chronology, in the same year (A. D. 64) , and there are good reasons for the general belief that it was also written by the same author who wrote the Ephesians; namely, the Apostle Paul. In Heb. 6:2 we read of the “doctrine of baptisms.” So there is “one baptism” and yet more than one. Properly understood there is no difficulty in the two sayings. There is one and the same ordinance of baptism for all believers to obey. But there are many figurative uses of the word. To illustrate: The verb “to plow” is known by all people to denote the single act of turning up the earth to receive seed. But the word is often used as a figure of speech to express the movements of a vessel, the destructions of a storm, etc. “The vessel plowed the great ocean;” “The tornado plowed through city and country.” So it may be said that to plow literally means one thing, and the term is borrowed to express, as a figure of speech, many other things. So the word baptize, always means to immerse, or submerge. It was a word in common use in the Greek language. And George Campell, the Scotch Presbyterian translator of the four gospels, says, “The word both in sacred authors and in classical signifies to dip, to plunge, to immerse.” “It is always construed suitable to this meaning.” He also admits that the word is never employed in the sense of sprinkle, in any use, sacred or classical. This word of very specific meaning in the Greek language, Jesus chose to represent the action of an ordinance in his church. He did so because the act it described was exactly that which he wished performed in the holy rite. And he instituted but one ordinance of baptism, for all his disciples to obey. But we have already said that many words are used out of their regular place, as a figure of speech, to denote something having a resemblance to that which the word literally means. This is often done to avoid repetition of the same word and to adorn ideas with pleasing forms of speech.

So the Savior knowing that he would soon be plunged into suffering, said, I have a baptism to be baptized with, etc. John also knowing that Christ would fulfill the prophecy of Joel, and pour out an overwhelming and all submerging flood of the Holy Spirit, said, “he will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire.” These are figurative uses of the word. The former into deep suffering, the latter into the all-cleansing and power-endueing flood of the Spirit. Common sense and the light of God are sufficient to enable any child of God to see the consistency of the two sayings, “One baptism” and “baptisms.” The former relates to the burial with Christ in baptism. The plural expression relates to this one literal ordinance and the other figurative uses of the word. We thank God for both expressions. “One baptism” excludes all Romish and Protestant rites of sprinkling and pouring; also baby sprinkling, and Campbellite baptismal regeneration, and every other perversion of the sacred ordinance. While “baptisms” overthrows the anti-ordinance falsehood. Amen.

Dear Saints of the Living God: May God’s richest blessings abide with you all. I am praising God for victory and for his saving grace. And am walking in his footsteps who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth. It was through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ my sins were all forgiven; through faith and consecration I was sanctified to do the whole will of God. I am glad for the willingness to take the straight truth and live by it, regardless of all the whims and notions of men. Truly it brings joy and peace in the Holy Ghost. Let us live so close to God that we can bear all the fruits of the Spirit; love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance, against such there is no law. Being delivered out of the hands of our enemies, might serve him without fear in holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life. Praise his holy name forever! Yours in perfect love,

To all the Saints of God: It has been a long time since I have written to you through the GOSPEL TRUMPET. Since I came to this place in December last, I have taken a bold stand for Jesus. God has wonderfully blest my soul and given me to see the fruits of obedience. Glory to our God forever and ever! Hated of the people, we know that they have also hated the Son of God. John 15:18. And the reason the world hates us, is because God hath chosen us out of the world. John 15:19. And the more we get in earnest in the salvation of souls, in the upbuilding of the cause of Christ, in showing forth the sin of the people, and the awful confusion in Babylon, the more persecution. 2 Tim. 3:12. And if we suffer, we shall also reign with him. 2 Tim. 2:12.

The Lord has raised up a few in this place who are willing to walk in the narrow way. The very powers of darkness are arrayed against this cause, but blessed be God, Jesus has promised that the gates of hell shall not prevail against his church. The multitude of people in Babylon are not satisfied with this, but desire to have something that is loved by men, a foundation that is built upon straw and stubble ere long to burn in the sight of God. May God send forth his messengers to proclaim the unadulterated truth in Christ Jesus. Your brother in Christ, saved to the uttermost,

F. J. Van Velden.

__________

Dear Saints: I earnestly ask you all to pray for the healing of my body. I am a great sufferer from catarrh, female weakness and other diseases. The doctors have failed to relieve or cure me. I was reading a Trumpet, and I saw where the Lord had healed a sister, and I know that he has the same power to heal me. I want more faith in healing, and more salvation and grace in my soul.

Polly Morris,

New Albany, Ind.

__________

Dear Trumpet Friends: I am led to write a few lines to the saints, requesting them to pray for me, that I may be cleansed from all sin. I do not feel that I am justified. I was converted some time ago, and felt a need of consecrating for entire sanctification, but I let the devil make me believe I could not obtain the blessing, as I did not seem to understand the second work of grace. But I do know we must live free from sin, or else not try to be a Christian at all. Also, pray that I may be healed of granulated eyelids. I know down deep in my heart that God can heal me. Pray for my healing on the 25th of May, as I believe the Lord will do the work through the prayers of the faithful saints. Yours, trusting in the Lord for salvation, healing and cleansing from all sin,

Vincent Case,

Millersburg, Ky.

__________

Dear Saints: I am saved; praise the Lord forever! Now, in regard to what I am called to pass through for Jesus’ sake, I will say that since my sickness, my trials are worse. Oh, if I could see some of the dear saints, and talk of the love of God! I am hindered from them; they are not allowed to come to see me. I have not heard a sermon preached for about nine months; I have never heard very much of God’s word explained, and am very ignorant. I have not had the privilege to learn, but the Lord seems to say my deliverance is near at hand. Now, something seems to say, Don’t write husband’s condition: he may hear of it, and it will only make him worse. But while in trouble, the Lord said to me, Are you going to fear man rather than God? I said, No, Lord, I will do whatsoever thou leadest me. The Lord showed me that husband is possessed, and has legions of devils. Let all the saints fast and pray June 9, that the devils may be cast out of him, and that he may be saved, or for my deliverance from him, or deliverance in some way. I am willing to do just whatever the Lord may lead, and to be delivered in God’s way. I have received some letters from the dear saints. May the dear Lord reward you all for your kindness. Will answer them as soon as the Lord wills. From your saved sister under the blood,

Mrs. Martha A. Pepple,

North Star, Ohio.

SCHOOL CLOSING.

We wish to say to all the saints that are in reach of this place, that you will enjoy a rich feast if you come to our last day of school here in the saints’ Home, which will be Friday, May 31. In the afternoon, precious and touching exercises will be rendered both in song and speech. All very pure and edifying. Beloved, come and hear the children.

PERSONAL ADMONITION.

We have received, over a month ago, a communication signed by three brethren at Lime City, Ia., stating that C. W. McDaniel, of Missouri, who had been laboring in that part of Iowa, has proved himself unworthy of the confidence of God’s church as a minister of the gospel. That he is out of the order of God, and without salvation. That he had proven a detriment to the cause of Christ there, and caused division. Also that they, and to their knowledge, other brethren, had admonished him, and they had found him self-defending, and unwilling to get right with God. Even the last duty was performed toward him before the church. Mat. 18:17. And that they feel it their duty to inform the saints of God abroad of these facts, lest he be permitted to harm the cause of Christ elsewhere.

Now, we would simply add that we know of other brethren that could not work with this man. We are personally acquainted with him, and have admonished him of his abominable self-importance, and lamentable lack of real humility, but could not see that he was even awake to the same. In fact, he seems to be very oblivious to the idea of meekness; hence, we do not believe him capable of representing the meek and lowly Christ. But the dear soul has our prayers, and we pledge him our love, and assure him we shall take pleasure in informing our readers, should he show the fruits of the real Spirit of God.

CARELESSNESS.

We are often astonished at the thoughtlessness and carelessness that some brethren manifest in writing and sending matter for publication Of course some dear ones have not been blessed with education, and yet God has shined into their hearts precious and rich things which we take pleasure in helping them tell to the glory of the Lord, and we wish that such should feel free to send what the Lord gives. But there are many who have received a common school education, and some beyond that, who are shamefully careless, and thereby impose work upon others, they should divide among themselves. Sometimes matter is not paged, and no little time is lost in getting it put together. Other times the sheets are somewhat mixed, and must be placed in order. Very often manuscript is sent in with the last page first, and so on through: just as if we have more time to lay it down, one page after another, and get it right end first, than they have. How much more sensible and reasonable that each writer see to all these little matters, rather than let them accumulate into quite a task when they pile up in the office.

Again, it is very evident that many do not read over their writing at all; which is culpable carelessness. Words are often omitted, which no one but the writer can properly supply. Not only should your matter be read over carefully and corrected, but in most cases, it should be thoroughly improved by striking out, changing and inserting, and then rewrite the matter all in plain hand. And we suggest that you preserve the original matter. Some send large manuscripts, and request that in case of non-publication to return the same. When therefore we are unable to publish them, an expense is entailed upon the office. Beloved, if you do not take interest enough in your articles to improve, condense and rewrite them, as a rule, you should not think it strange if they do not elicit much interest in others in reading them.

Again, many who are pretty well acquainted with the English language, and could as well as not, if they did not expect our labors to make up for their carelessness, observe the more common rules of punctuation and capitalizing, yet pay no attention to these things. They know that proper names should be capitalized, also the beginning of every sentence, yet, they are too careless to give others the benefit of what they know. We have just read over an article, in which the writer — and he knows better, too — not only runs over full stops, but also over changes in the subject where a paragraph should begin, without as much as a comma, or a capital letter. This is a carelessness that must make their manuscript rather dreaded. And very often in this busy, rushing work, matter fails to find its way into print because there is not sufficient time to prepare it. Whereas, matter plainly written, and punctuated will be laid hold upon, because quickly gotten ready for print. Brethren and sisters, please remember these things.

Denmark, Europe, Apr. 26. 1895.

Dear Saints of God: I praise the Lord this morning that I am saved and sanctified, and that he has kept me by his power on my journey to Denmark. I am now stopping with a sect that are called holiness people, but believe we cannot be free from sin. One of them said she was nothing but sin. So I am in a wilderness of sin. I shall begin meeting as soon as the Lord opens the way. Dear saints, when you read this, pray for me and for the people here. Finally brethren, farewell, be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace, and the God of peace and love shall be with you. Amen. Yours saved in Jesus,

Dear Saints: We are praising God this morning for a complete salvation. We preached last night to a large congregation. After dismissal while dear Bro. Farquar and myself were getting ready for bed, a storm arose and swept over this little city, blowing our tent from over us, leaving us completely exposed to the wind and rain, tearing and rending our tent. But thank the Lord not so but what it can be repaired. We had piled upon a temporary table about $25 00 worth of books for which we owe the Trumpet office, they being shipped to us to sell, and pay for as sold. Besides quite a number of tracts, which are almost a total loss. Oh how the dear Lord is blessing our labors with this tabernacle! Our souls doth magnify the Lord this morning for all his goodness, love and mercy in that amid the flying of debris the falling of those large tent poles, we were preserved, not even receiving a scratch. Brethren, we need God’s help. Pray with us. Our address is Willow Springs, Howell Co., Mo.

Dear Brethren: After the ordinance meeting wife and I returned to Tokoa. From thence in company with dear Bro. Henry Moys and wife we returned home to Palouse and held meetings in the home of Bro. Henwood in the town, which was much blessed of God and resulted in much good. From there we were taken to the saints near Bethel. On Sabbath in company with Brother and Sister Benton met with the church at Hubert school house. Returned to Bro. Henwood in Palouse and there took the train for Creston, Washington in the Big Bend country. We are now holding meetings in the M. E. chapel about ten miles west of the city.

FLOATING BETHEL.

_____

Linton, Ohio, May 4. 1895.

Dear Brethren: It is with a heart full of praise to God I write this morning. The meetings dosed in Pittsburg, Pa. with victory. Five at the altar the last day, and twenty took part in the ordinance meeting. They expect to enlarge their meeting house soon. They extend a general invitation to stop, to brethren going via Pittsburg. The Bethel is now at Machen, W. Va. There has been thirty one baptized at the Bethel since the 17th of March. There are ten workers on the boat at present, which are divided into three companies, and the Lord opens doors for us all. Praise his dear name! Dear saints, pray for us that the Lore may direct in all things, as we feel the great responsibility, and desire the co-operation of those interested in the work, in their prayers. Also you can assist by sending us tracts, provisions etc. The address of the Bethel family is Linton, Ohio.

Bourbon, Mo. May 7. 1895.

To the Dear Saints of God: Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Wife and myself are still saved, kept and healed by the power of God. Hallelujah to Jesus! Salvation is free and full. Amen.

Since last writing we have had some wonderful persecutions. At Leasburg one man gave out publicly if we did not leave town in twenty- four hours he would kill us. Another man said he would oil us and set us on fire. Others said they would tar and feather us if we did not at once leave town. Praise God, we held the fort and stayed a week longer than we had expected to, and until every one of the cowards were, driven to their own dens. Glory be to God! He gave us the victory. The glory shall be thine!

On Sunday we gathered on the banks of the Merimac river and eight converts followed Jesus, and therefore were buried with him by baptism into death; that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so they also may walk in newness of life, this making thirty-nine in all baptized at this place, and there are nine more here to be baptized next Sunday, and we are trusting God to save others also.

There is a good work begun here, and the brethren passing this way, God being willing, will find at Bourbon, Stringtovra, Leasburg and Saranacia many of the saints who will gladly receive them. Buildings are open at these places for services, and large congregations of anxious hearers.

May God’s richest blessings ever attend the dear saints of the true and living God. Pray God to keep us low and settled upon the Word, and that we may always obey the Spirit, and that our path of duty be always clear. Your brother and sister in the one body,

Jno. M. and A. B. Bell.

OPEN DOOR MISSION.

_____

396 Dearborn St., Chicago, Ill.,

May 6, 1895.

Dear Brethren: In passing through this city, I stopped off to help some in the Open Door Mission. Oh, what an open door in this wicked city for the Lord to do good! If the ancient Sodomites knew the wickedness of this city, it would surely make them blush. I truly believe it were impossible for any mind to picture an exaggeration of the real condition of the deadly cesspools of damnation and deepest crime found here. I supposed I knew something about the wickedness of modern Sodom in my past nine years of travel in the Lord’s work, but since remaining in this city for a few days, I confess my ignorance regarding vice and crime. Notwithstanding all this wickedness, many are being rescued, and will be. Many of these fallen girls have been driven to this low plane by disappointments, discouragements and hard times; and a large per-cent of them are willing to reform if they only have a chance. One house of ill-fame has been totally broken up. The woman — though very wealthy — that, run that house has been gloriously saved and healed of heart disease, which made her helpless in bee. for nine weeks. She has turned all her bad girls off, and now her house is a home for God. Oh brethren! if you could come here and see what God is doing, and what there is to be done, you would fly to the refuge with both means and prayer. Young men studying for the ministry come to the Mission from various parts of the city and theological institutes, and learn the truth and how God is working, and embrace it to the exclusion of sects and all else, and join in the pure gospel work. By this Mission, through which God is working, the real gospel is being sent to all parts of this continent.

The use of this mission building costs $125.00 per month, and it must now be fixed up and equipped for the work, which will cost about $100.00 more, and God must supply the means, for there is to much at stake if it is not done. Oh pray in faith, brethren, but remember that “faith without works is dead.” I wish you could hear the testimony of some of those rescued souls, and you that have means would freely spend it to rescue others. Money is mostly needed here at present, but carpets and bed clothing are needed also. Dishes and some more furniture we know God will supply. From fifty to 200 men are fed and remain here every night and take the floor for their bunk. Bro. Tufts says all the necessary eatables are supplied by the good people of the city. Those things which I mentioned above are most needed.

Brethren, take this matter to heart and let God move you to contribute means, or such things as you have to help rescue those poor souls. My eyes are opened and my soul is stirred with many others. I pray God to awaken all with concern and deep solicitude for the perishing. Your brother, willing to help bear the heat of this great harvest. Pray for me.

Guy’s Mills, Pa., Apr. 23, 1895.

Dear Saints and Readers of the Trumpet: When we last wrote we were at Blystone, Crowford Co. From there we went to Kizer Hill and held meeting one week with much opposition. But the Lord helped us in putting forth the truth and good seed was sown there. Bro. and Sister Taylor were in the meeting a short time. Bro. Beach, Brown and Vanmaster from Ohio and Grand Valley came over and met with us

in the meeting, and we truly feasted on the good things from Father’s table. We then came home and started for Burg Hills, O, where the saints were looking for us ever since camp meeting. We began meeting in the town hall at Johnson Center. There we held meeting four weeks through the coldest weather we had all winter. There was a great work done during that meeting. Some accepted the truth, came out and were saved, and a few were sanctified. There were also a few cases of healing. Praise the dear Lord! From there we went to a place called the Beach Settlement, and held meeting two nights. Then word came from home that our little grand son was sick, not expected to live. We immediatly started for home. My daughter who is mown by many of the saints, is the mother of this child. She had been in a backslidden state, and took the suffering of the child on herself and promised God she would obey him if he would restore her child. He raised it up almost from death. Then the mother came down on a bed of affliction. Then in the name of the Lord we laid our hands upon our daughter. She was saved and healed immediately, and in two days she was gloriously sanctified. Glory be to Jesus forever and ever! And she is walking in the light, and the child is well.

After this we were impressed to go and visit the little ones at Cherry Center where we had been last fall. We found them increasing, and the seed which had been sown in the fall was springing up and bringing forth fruit. We remained there and had a two-week’s meeting which was a glorious one. Twelve were sanctified at one altar service. And one sister in her home by her fireside was having a meeting with her chileren, and God sanctified her soul. She came to the meeting with herface shining with the glory of God. Bro. Beach was with us during the latter part of the meeting; he baptized the little ones. Eleven went down for; baptism there are others yet to be baptized. There were some remarkable cases of healing. We had baptism on the Sab bath and closed by obeying the ordinances of God’s house, in which twenty- one took part. The church there has the lumber on the ground to put up their house of worship. We expect to be at home for a short time, and then return to Ohio and spend the most of our time there and in western Pennsylvania.

We want to testify to the glory of God that he is wonderfully keeping us, and filling us with his power and spirit, giving more and more wisdom and understanding of his Word. We ask all the saints to pray that. we may be kept humble.

Grand Ledge, Mich., Apr. 30, 1895.

Dear Children of God: My testimony to day is, I am free and happy in Jesus, believing the words of my precious Savior, “If the Son therefore make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” Jno. 8:36. Praise God for the exceeding great and precious promises, whereby we are partakers of the divine nature, and have escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”

I will now try to give a brief sketch of my whereabouts and labors since last camp meeting. I worked with Sisters Fisherand Gardner through the Cheshire, Hopkins, and Eagle Grove meetings. Praise God, the meetings were owned and blessed by him. My health being too poor to continue to work in revival meetings steady, or to go further north, and some of the saints at Holt desired me to go there, and truly I shall always have I reasons to thank God for providing me a home and place to work as he did there. The goodness of God is amazing to me. Glory be to his dear name! I have spent a great deal of my time there ever since, going from house to house and to their meetings as the weather and my health permitted. Although I have held but one meeting since with Bro. Radebaugh at Grand Ledge, yet I have never put in my time more closely (and I trust profitably) than I have this winter.

The dear saints at Holt were truly a willing people, with their hearts, hands, and means. We have enjoyed precious feasts together from Father’s table reading, fasting, praying and laboring together, but not without much opposition and reproach, from the adversary. Our souls were much blessed during prayer week last winter, and I can truthfully say I am yet fasting much and crying to Daniel’s God in behalf of the work of God in every place, and for the dear workers. Knowing something of what they endure in the gospel work. And more than all that God would keep me humble and in his order. O how many lessons of humility, faith, patience and charity he has taught me during this time! Bless his holy name! I love the chastening rod, it brings me so near to Father and makes me more like the blessed Lamb of God.

But I am unlearned and naturally very timid, which has caused me much suffering, and no doubt to be judged by others. But, dear ones, I have endeavored to not teach anything that I did not perfectly understand; not speaking things too high for me; not seeking honor from men, but to humbly fill the place and do the work the Lord has assigned me, which is principally in families, especially among the saints, teaching, strengthening, and comforting the tried and tempted. And for this cause (not saying I have had no faults nor never made any mistakes), the enemy it seems would send out false reports, and as I understand, some of the saints believe this, that I teach celibacy among the married people, which I never have taught. Though I have said when questioned, if people choose to live such a life, for the gospel’s sake alone perhaps God would honor or acknowledge it, and bless them in so doing.

Also shouting. I have never opposed shouting, although I have labored hard to get the believers settled in faith, and established in the truth and not to trust in feelings or emotions, believing the just shall live by faith, even as Abraham believed God and it was counted to him for righteousness, and will be imputed to us also if we believe as he did. But this I must say that I have had to contend with the deceptions of the enemy in many ways. One Is there is a kind of manifestation called the “power,” among the Free Methodist and other isms, very prevalent, also sometimes excitement, that I do warn the people against, such as getting stiff or helpless, falling, tumbling about, etc. But I can say to the glory of God, none of these things move me. I am kept in perfect peace, not having aught against any, but believe in giving none offence. Amen. Your humble saved sister,

Julia Myers.

HELP NEEDED.

_____

Fayetteville, Tenn., May 6, 1895.

To All the Dear Saints, and especially those whom God has called into the gospel field, we make this earnest appeal. In the past few years the Lord has been favoring this southern country with the pure gospel in the evening light, that is a part of it, and many souls are rejoicing in the wonderful salvation of God. Yet, the work is just fairly opening. There are spots all the way from Coffee Co., Tenn., to Blount Co., Ala., where the truth has taken root and is growing. Yet there are hundreds of miles from place to place where the pure Word is not preached. A preacher stopping at any point where the truth has been preached, as mentioned above will have calls on every hand, or at least it will be so in most places. Now I am in the southern part of Tennesee and have calls enough within a few miles of where I am now to keep me engaged for at least two or three months. (If I remain here it may be the will of the Lord for me to go to Missouri before long as I have been away from home three years now, yet I am subject to the Lord’s will at any sacrifice.) If there is one regular gospel worker in the evening light in the state of Alabama, I have no knowledge of it, yet there is work there recently opened up and needs attention lest the labor already spent should be in vain. Bro. Ostis B. Wilson and Wife are now in Tennesee, a little more than 100 miles east of us, and I know of no other workers in this part of the South, reaching unto the gulf. And the people are wandering on in sin and sectarian blindness.

Now I come to my special request. Last fall I used my influence and acted as agent for the saints in Alabama, in the purchasing of a good, large tabernacle, size 38×52, made to order in Detroit, Mich., cost $109,50 at Detroit. There are two gasoline torches with it for lighting. The tent is now in its winter store waiting for some one to unfold it for the Lord and the salvation of souls. Are there not some consecrated workers who can come at once and take charge of this tent and move on with the work in Alabama? It will need, of course, more than one to handle the tent successfully. At this season of the year it is better to work in towns; and workers must know how to trust the Lord for something to eat and some place to stay all night, as there are but few towns that know anything about this way, and never will unless some consecrated workers press their way into them with the pure gospel. Now the tent ought to be at work. Who can come and help us? that is, take charge of the tent. After the middle of July when crops are laid by, the tent will be wanted among the saints awhile, as that is the general meeting season in the South. Do not know whether they expect a camp meeting in Alabama this summer or not. By all means there should be one. May the Lord stir everybody to the work. Now a person needs more than a zeal to work for God here as well as every place else. The calling and sending and preparation of the Holy Ghost is needed. Who will say, here am I, send me? If there are none who could take charge of the tent and manage it could you help in the work? that is, do you feel that God would be pleased to send you to this part to work? Some of the saints in Morgan Co., Ala., have expressed their desire to have Bro. Thos. Carter come and work with the tent. Will the Lord send him? or whom will he send? Now, if any feel called of the Lord in this matter, please address me at Fayetteville, Tenn., at once and I will help to arrange in this matter. Money is very scarce in this country at this season of the year, and I cannot say just what could be done about that; we will trust the Lord to open the way.

Now I will ask all the dear saints when you read this to send up at least one special, earnest prayer to God in behalf of the work here and that he will send some consecrated workers to this field, and also that he will protect it from imposters. Your humble and sanctified brother and servant in the gospel,

Otto Bolds.

DAVIS. — Sister Susan Davis departed this life April 14, 1895, after a long illness. She was born March 4, 1856. She had a cancer; was examined by five different physicians who pronounced her case incurable, stating she would not live longer than one week. But some of God’s little ones went in and prayed for her and she was healed; sprang out of bed, ran out into the yard and shouted the praises of God. A short time after that, she doubted that she was perfectly healed. Then wife and I went over and anointed her according to James 5:14, and she was healed. After that the doctors examined her and said the cancer was gone. She then went out to the grove meetings, was baptized, lived one year, and afterwards died with dropsy. She leaves a husband and eight children, but their loss is her gain. She saw her husband and one child, and one brother saved. May God keep ar d protect the loved ones until they meet in heaven. BEWARE OF COUNTERFEITS.

_____

ONLY one true god. Zech. 14:9. And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one. Only one true church; nothing shall prevail against her. Mat. 16:18. — “And I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter; and upon this rock will build MY CHURCH; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Only one faith. Eph. 4:5. — “One Lord one faith, one baptism.” Also Ver. 6, — “One God, and father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” Glory be to God! Then truly their must be some counterfeits in the world. Now Daniel tells us that this kingdom (or church) was set up by the God of heaven, * * * * this kingdom shall break in pieces and consume all other kingdoms.

Then this church (or kingdom) is to be without spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but it must be holy and without blemish. Oh praise God for this one without spot or wrinkle! This pure church so stirred the devil that he began to persecute and oppose her; but God was in her and on the day of Pentecost three thousand souls were captured for God. The church triumphant marched on, sweeping away every thing that was false and shoddy before her. The devil could not stop the sweeping fire of God’s love. Now the devil begins to work in real earnest. He sees he must go to work counterfeiting, so he conceives and brings forth the old “mother of harlots,” spoken of in Rev. 17th chapter. But she was so much like her father the devil, that as soon as the great Bible detector was laid upon her she was found to be a beast. And after the dark age and reign of this Roman beast, we can see traces of the true church appearing again. As she advances in the true light (word of God), the devil brings forth his churches, and his Bible, which is this discipline, creeds, etc. More and more as the church of the firstborn advances, more and more the devil brings forth his counterfeits or false churches and doctrine, to imitate God’s true church.

So about the year 1861 he brought forth one they called Free Methodist. The devil, no doubt, thought that this young daughter of the beast family would palm off for the genuine church; but soon the detector was laid on her and she was found wanting. Bless the Lord for the word of God, with which we are to try every spirit. The Spirit and the word agree. 1 Jno. 4:1. He says try the spirits. Isaiah says, “If they speak not according to this word it is because there is NO light in them.” Also, Jno. 8:47. — “He that is of God heareth God’s words.” Now then by these plain words we can proceed to try all that are called churches; yea, and every spirit of man that may profess to be saved from all sin, but if they refuse to measure up to the whole word of God and walk in the light as he is in the light, it is because there is no light in them. They are filled with darkness, and lie and do not the truth. We find among the F. M’s, a great cry about “perfect love” etc. Here John tells us what perfect love is. 1 Jno. 5:3. — “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments; and his commandments are not grievous.” These sect worshipers will take just enough of the word of God to fix up their little god; but if they would accept the whole truth their little sect would fall before the church of the living God, like the Philistines’ god, Dagon, fell before the ark of God. Yes, Dagon fell before the ark and broke his head off, so there was nothing left but the stump of their god. So it is with the F. M. sect. The word of God will cut her head off. She cannot stand before this kingdom (or church) which was set up by the God of heaven. But how different is this F. M. kingdom. She was set up by man in 1861. She was built on human rules. She is governed by man and by the man-made discipline. Her head is a man, or a set of men instead of Jesus being her head. The F. M. sect has more respect for their feelings and creed than for the Word of God. They have chosen sprinkling and pouring a few drops of water on the head instead of baptism. Also sprinkling infants, calling this baptism. Jesus says, believe and (or be converted) be baptized. Also they ignore the holy ordinance of feet washing, calling it one of the non-essentials. Ignoring the prayer of Jesus Christ in Jno. 17, where he prays that we all may be one as he and the Father are one. Also blundering over this scripture, John 10th chapter, where he says, there shall be one fold and one shepherd. But instead of hearing the voice of Jesus they say it is necessary to coop them up in their little pens; sheep and goats (sinners) all together, disobeying this scripture — “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers.” Rushing on with their false doctrines. They ignore the word of God as their discipline and heed and rather trust in a few patched up commandments of men. So blind they do not see the meaning of this truth, — “All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect.” Also setting aside Jesus Christ as the door, they set up their false door by his door, and so much like some secret order, they must go to work and initiate the poor convert to make what they call a Free Methodist instead of saint. In fact, it is a machine got up by man and operated by man. She is against God’s church, so we have no compromise to make with her. Amen.

Oh I do praise God for deliverance from this Babylon bondage! Glory to God! Not long since the Lord sent me into one of their meetings in East Liverpool, Ohio. Their preacher, one Miss Smith, took her text and tried to preach; but she was so tied up that she had to sit down. She said if any one desired to exhort, to be free. This opened the way for the word of the Lord. They gave us some hearty amens, but as soon as we testified to being saved from the Free Methodist sect, all faces gathered blackness. The preacher ordered me to stop; also one Alexander the coppersmith told me to quit. When I had obeyed the Holy Ghost, I sat down. They made me think of the uproar at Ephesus when they accused Paul and said he was trying to destroy their great goddess Diana. So these modern Ephesians were filled with wrath and cried out, “Great is the goddess of the Free Methodists.” They thanked God that they were of this sect. This one Alexander the coppersmith jumped up with his big neck tie on and thanked God for the Free Methodist church, and then in his lawyer style, asked his God to bless every sect in East Liverpool, Romanism, Adventism, with all the rest of the isms, and ists, and ites. They got up a regular F. M. whoop. One of them got down on the floor and barked like a dog, and thus these modern Ephesians acted, praising their sect god.

Soon after this, God gave me this dream. I saw a platform, raised somewhat up from the ground, and I was directed to look under this platform, and just under the center of this structure was a foundation, and around this foundation was coiled a monstrous old serpent. I had in my hand a long spike. I was impressed to strike the serpent, so I just touched him a little, and oh, what an awful hissing and roaring he set up! I was somewhat frightened, but by my side stood another brother, who struck the serpent with his spike such an awful blow that the old snake was cut into two pieces. One piece uncoiled and ran out in a straight direction until it ran into the earth and disappeared.

I was much troubled over this strange dream, and besought the Lord earnestly for the interpretation. So here it is. The platform is the F. M. sect; the foundation underneath was some of the word of God; the old serpent coiled around this foundation is their false doctrines. The spike which we used was the word of God; this hissing and roaring refers to the anti-christ spirit which they have (and they are so blind as to think and call it the Holy Ghost). The piece which was cut off refers to the young daughter of old Mrs. F. M. which they called, Miss Pentecoster. This young daughter was born some few weeks ago, so like the dream she will run in the same old path or rut which her mother trod in, and like an animal or beast she will wind up in the earth; she will never get wings to rise and walk with God. She is of the earth also and she, like all the rest of the harlots of Romanism, must perish in the earth. Now read Jeremiah 50:14,15, and be true to her. Amen.

Can We Fall?

[concluded.]

“Well,” say some,

“THE BIBLE TEACHES ELECTION.”

Very well; we believe in election ourself as the Bible teaches it. “Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification, of the Spirit, unto OBEDIENCE, and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ. 1 Pet. 1:2. But say this hardened class of people, “We are elected according to the foreknowledge of God.” This we admit: God foreknew and foreordained a plan of salvation, and the provisions have been made, through which all men can be elected, or saved, if they would only meet the requirements of God, and accept his offered mercies: Each individual has power to make his own choice. Jesus “tasted death for every man.” Heb. 2:9. And God “commandeth all men, everywhere, to repent.” Acts 17:30. Jesus says, “Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” Luke 13:3, 5. “Whosoever will,” etc. But the people (the hardened ones) say, “We cannot, unless God gives us the will.” Very true; God gives us life, breath, will, and all things. (Jas. 1:17.) And gives every man power to exercise his own will as it pleases himself, and commands him to make his choice. Deut. 30:19. Jesus says, Come unto me, all. Mat. 11:28. God says, Turn, and live. Ezek. 18:32. Peter says, Make your [own] calling and election sure (2 Pet. 1:10.) by complying with the requirements of God. It is every man’s privilege. Praise the Lord! Jesus says, “Whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man. * * * And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man.” Mat. 7:24-26.

What kind of a God would it be to say, “Choose,” “Come,” “Whosoever will,” “Repent, all, or perish,” and even call the people fools if they do not come, and at the same time knowing that he had arranged a plan so they could not come, if they wanted to do so ever so much? Shame on the devil and any man that will try to put such a delusion on the people, and call it preaching the gospel of Christ! O ye blind guides! of all the foolish, thou art the most ignorant. “For they, being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness [sin], have not submitted themselves to the righteousness [salvation] of God.” Rom. 10:3.

While it is a fact that cannot be denied that every man has power to make his own choice, and each individual can make their (own) election sure by complying with the terms of the gospel, yet it is

“NOT OF HIM THAT WILLETH,

nor of him that runneth, but [salvation] is of God, that sheweth mercy.” Rom. 9:16. Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.” Tit. 3:5. Their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord. (Not of man.) Isa. 54:16. Might be partakers of his holiness. Heb. 12:10. “Judah hath profaned the holiness of the Lord which he loved.” Mal. 2.11. Salvation does not come from the priest, nor preacher, as some may suppose; and it is not of man, neither did we receive it by man, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ Gal. 1:12. Rom. 1:16.), and by the power of God through faith. Mat. 28.18. Luke 1:68-75. Heb. 7:25. 1 Pet. 1:5. Jude 1. Hence, it is of God, and not of (him that lath the will to receive it) man.

If this (predestinarian) falsehood were true, it would be difficult to learn who are the most foolish, that kind of preachers, or the devil. According to their doctrine, God has decreed from all eternity the exact number that are saved, and the very individuals; also just who must be lost in hell. And those two classes are so fixed, that they cannot be increased or decreased by any act of man. But here is the mystery in my mind; those preachers are out trying to get people saved, and to join something, when at the same time, according to their own teaching, they do not think that God is giving any attention to them whatever. And our adversary, the devil, as a roaring lion also walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Pet. 5:8. You see, the devil thinks he can devour some that are already elected, and the preachers [poor fellow’s) think by lectioneering a little, they can pursuade God to change his plan(?), and elect a few more, and at the same time telling the people that their eternal destiny has been fixed ever since the foundation of the world. Therefore, they and the devil are simply making fools of themselves, spending their time in vain.

There is a weak place somewhere, and I locate it in this devil-doctrine, for God’s word is true. Praise his holy name! If I believed such an unreasonable thing, I would go home and stay there, just what every man ought to do that teaches such a delusion of the devil.

“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee! how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not.” Luke 13:34. “He came unto his own [the Jews], and his own received him not. But as many as received him [did not harden their hearts], to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe [through the truth. Jno. 17:17, 20.] on his name.” Jno. 1:11, 12. Jesus would have saved them all, but they would not let him.

But say some, “We do not think we can do anything unless God helps us:

WE ARE NOT SAVED BY WORKS.”

It is true, we are not saved by works, and yet, we have something to do, even before being saved from sin. First, Cease to do evil. Isa: 1:16. Forsake evil ways. Isa. 55:7. Restore. Ezek. 33:14-16. Forgive others, if anything against them. Mat. 6:14, 15. Be reconciled. Mat. 5:23, 24. Confess to God. 1 Jno. 1:9. Prov. 28:13. Then ask, and ye shall receive. Mat. 7:8. Must also have faith in God. Mark 11:22. Heb. 11:6. For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. Not of works [sacrifices, etc.], lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God before ordained that we should walk in them (good works Mat. 5:14-16). While we cannot be saved by works of the law, that is, by beast offering, etc., as though Christ had not come (Heb. 9:13, 14. 10:10. 13:12. Tit. 3:5), yet, God hath so ordained that we should walk right. “Deny ungodliness, and worldly lusts, live soberly, righteously and godly in this present world.” Tit. 2:12. It is by the grace of God that we are saved, but that is received through faith, and it is impossible to believe to the saving of the soul without complying with the requirements of God. Faith and works must go together. God has made a covenant, or contract, and has taken an oath (Luke 1:73-75), therefore, he will never fail on his part. If the people will enter into this covenant which God has made, and fulfill their part, their election will be sure. In this contract, God requires both, faith, and works. Jas. 2:14, 19, 20, 26. What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?” “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils [and sinners] also believe and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works [obedience ] isdead? For as the body without the Spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”

Dear Saints: Praise God! I am justified freely, and sanctified wholly, and satisfied. I have blessed visions many times of the dear ones in America. Methinks I see them face to face. I want you all to pray for me, as all the hosts of hell are raging round about me. Your humble brother in the one body,

Dear Trumpet Readers: I praise God this morning for this blessed privilege of writing my testimony. I have been reading the Trumpet, and so many blessed testimonies that it revives my soul very much. All winter I have been deprived of the privileges of assembling with God’s saints. Lived with a millionaire in a very lonesome place: no meetings close by, and he did not want any praying in his house, nor any blessings asked at the table. All he cared for was making money, drinking and smoking, and thought he was having a good time. Well, praise the Lord, I am glad in my soul I have got out of prison, and in my own house once more. Oh, I am so glad I have got among Christian people once more. Oh I praise God for this blessed privilege!

My afflictions are no better. Pray for me that my faith may grow stronger. Also pray for my afflicted sister who has been a cripple for twelve years. Has to go on crutches all the time. She is a good Christian woman. Your sister saved in Jesus,

Mrs. R. McKinley.

Dear Saints and Trumpet Readers: I am glad to report perfect victory in my soul through Jesus, over all the works of Satan. I am rejoicing with the glory of God in my soul. Truly my soul is basking in the sunlight of his eternal righteousness. He is settling me down on the Word, and I am dead to all the light, foolish things of the world, that only belong to the devil, though in the past I have been greatly tried on this line. But I have victory over the devil, and I know God has done a real work of cleansing in my heart, and I am on the advance for God, and determined to go through at any cost. My soul is feasting on the good things from Father’s table. I have a greater desire to launch out into the deep things of God than ever before. I realize time is short and we should improve every moment for God. My whole desire is to be a true child of God, and to ever be found doing those things pleasing in his sight. Jesus sweetly saves my soul and sanctifies me wholly, also heals my body. Praise his name! I am ready to obey God in all things. Pray for me. Yours in Christ,

Dear Saints: I can testify this day to salvation. I do know that the dear Lord saves, sanctifies and heals me now. Bless his name forever! I was saved once when about twelve or thirteen years old. Had a real good experience for about one, year, and by not doing my duty I commenced to drift away from God, and finally gave it up entirely, although after I lad backslidden I had my mind made up that if I got into another meeting would start again, for I knew what it was to be saved and I wanted to be saved again. So God sent some of his flying angels in the neighborhood where I was living and they commenced preaching the Bible and pouring out the truth to the people. Conviction came upon me, and I praise the Lord I did not fight it off, but made things right and confessed my sins according to 1 Jno. 1:9. Believed in God by faith in his word, and he gave me the witness within my soul that I was saved, and the next night went for sanctification and he sanctified my nature. Afterwards was baptized, and then commenced working for the Lord as the Lord showed and led me. I felt my littleness. I had no education, even had to spell most every word when I would go to read. But I said, the Lord’s will be done, and moved out at his command, and I praise the Lord to day that he has been settling me down and teaching me to read and helping me in many other things. Glory to God! Myself and wife are with Bro. and Sister Jacobson at Tekoa, helping in a meeting. There have been several saved and we still expect others. May God bless this to his glory. Amen. This is the first time I have written to the Trumpet. From your saved brother in the one body,

Henry E. Moys.
