GOD’S CARE.

_____

What am I, that thou shouldst be, Psa. 8:4.
Mindful, O my God, of me;
Watching o’er me clay by day.
Answering when I kneel to pray?

What am I, that thou needst care, Mat. 6:3]-33.
What I eat or drink or wear?
Matters it so much to thee,
That I fed and clothed should be?

What am I, that thou shouldst keep Psa. 121:4.
Watch o’er me and never sleep,
Guiding, guarding, all my years,
Deep’ning joys and less ning fears?

What am I, that thou must know Psa. 1:6.
Every path where I may go;
That thy still small voice should say,
“Walk ye in the narrow way?”

What am I, that thou shouldst send, Psa. 13:24.
Thy Son to be my truest friend?
He who walked in Galilee
Has come to dwell and walk with me.

What am I, that I should have Rom. 6:23,
Endless life beyond the grave?
Why dost thou so much for me.
When I can do nought for thee?

__________

THE LORD’S PLANTING.

_____

THOSE that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.” Psa 92:13, 14. What a glorious truth we find in this scripture! All through the Bible we find that God uses trees as well as other things in nature to typify or represent men and women; but we see here the Lord makes a distinction by saying “those,” showing a difference between those that are really planted, and those who just claim to be.

Oh how many we find to day claiming to be the children of God, the work of God’s own hands, and yet their daily life is not in harmony with the word of God. Now the house spoken of is the house of God, which Paul says is the church of God. 1 Tim.3:5. Now, dear ones, we believe we are safe in saying that the cause of so much re-consecrating is on account of the planting not being in accordance with the word of God. We see so many to day, and some even professing holiness, who seem to think it is something they do or practice that makes them the children of God. Now we see by the Word that it is not what we do, but what the dear Lord does. Praise his name! In Rom 6:5, we see that the planting must be in the likeness of his death; and in the same chapter and the 10th verse we see it was a death by sin (see Emphatic Diaglott). So there must be a dying to sin take place.

And now let us read Isa. 63:5, and here we find ourselves being called trees of righteousness, and the planting of the Lord. Bless the Lord! What a grand glorious thought to think that men and women in sin can become real spiritual trees of righteousness and grow and flourish in the courts of our God! Praise God for this wonderful planting in the house of God! And now, dear ones, the Word says when we are really taken out of the world and planted in the real nourishing love of God, with all heaven right in our souls, with all the light and glow of God’s Spirit within us, then and only then the Psalmist says we will flourish. And we find that to flourish is to thrive or grow. Praise God! What a wonderful place to grow in the house of the Lord or the church of God, with all the sunlight of heaven shining down upon us, with the early and latter rain of God’s grace keeping us continually in a growing condition, and bearing fruit for God!

Dear ones, in the name of Jesus let us look to the planting. We are sometimes made to believe that so much re-consecrating and unfruitful experience is because God has not had his wo.. the work of planting. No … … ..eed to be afraid of finding anything wild or unnatural growing in the house of God. Everything that is growing here has been planted in this wonderful vineyard of God and is of his own planting. He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house. He that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight. — Psa. 101:7.

So you see all of God’s planting must continue to be fruitful and flourishing. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age. Now we see God never puts any one on the retired list; the fruit-bearing continues right on even in old age. Now the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance, against such there is no law. — Gal. 5:22, 23. Now the Word says they shall be fat and flourishing, or growing.

And now, dear ones, in conclusion, let me say in the meekness and love of Jesus, if we are claiming to be the saints of God and our lives never bring forth any real fruit for God and we do not make any increase in God, remember it is because the planting is not of God. And now should these lines be read by any who may have been re-consecrating, and as some say, doing the best they can by the word of God, and the conviction of your own consciences, find out your real condition, and if it be that of a sinner, come to God as such, not in your own way or on any pretense of being “pretty good any way,” knowing that God respecteth not any man’s person and that he that cometh to him must come with his whole heart, believing that he is, and that he is a rewarder of all those who diligently seek him. And now while this is work for eternity, let us give all diligence to make our peace, calling and election sure, knowing that he is faithful that promised. Yours in the family of God.

I. S. McCoy.

__________

Can We Fall?

_____

IT is the great love and sympathy I have for fallen humanity, and for the truth of God, that moves me to write the following lines, and send them forth in the name of Jesus; praying God’s blessings upon the same. Having considered this matter, and prayed to God, I feel it my duty so to do.

I have been in fifteen different states, and having two years and six months’ experience in evangelistic work, I find in nearly every community (especially in the South) a few, and sometimes a great many people, who are teaching this doctrine of devils, that after a person is born of God, it is impossible to fall away, or be lost.

One thing I have noticed in particular, that in all my travels, I have not so much as found one man teaching this awful deception, that had salvation. They sin more or less each day, and nearly always are honest enough to confess the same. Hence, they are of the devil (1 Jno. 3:8), and it is no marvel that they teach some of his spurious doctrines, as nearly all children must naturally imitate their father to some extent.

Let us now proceed to refute this falsehood by the word of God, by noticing a few reasons — as they claim — why they thus teach, and lead people astray. Some tell us that after being born of God, they

CANNOT BE UNBORN.

If we look at it from a natural, human standpoint, that looks very plausible. But grace and nature are not always parallel. And God’s word is a mighty thunderbolt against men’s reasoning, and opinions (2 Cor. 10:5).

We will now read the text that they use to prove this. 1 Jno. 3:9. “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.”

They emphasize the words “cannot sin;” and yet they say they DO SIN every day, and still remain a child of God: which makes a positive falsehood, either in them, or in God’s word; and Paul says, “Let God be true, but every man a liar.” Rom. 3:4. But say they, “We don’t commit any damning sins.” The Scripture says, “The soul that sinneth it shall die.” Ezk. 18:4, 20. “Sin when it is finished bringeth forth death.” Jas. 1:15. “Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.” Exod. 32:33. “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life, was cast into the lake of fire.” Rev. 20:15. People that commit sin, and continue so, will die in their sins: therefore they can not go where Jesus is (Jno. 8:21, 24), but will be cast into the lake of fire.

WHY WE CANNOT SIN

And be a child of God at the same time. To be born of God, means, regenerated, recreated or created anew which puts us in Christ. (Eph. 2:10.) For we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works, etc. (Not to sin.) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away, and behold all things are become new. 2 Cor. 5:17.

We cannot sin in Christ. Why? Ans: — I Jno. 3:5, 6. — “And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not.” No sin in Christ to do: therefore if a person wants to commit sin, he must go where sin is; turn from his righteousness: (Ezk. 3:19) and by So doing, spiritual death is the result. “Every sin a man doeth is without [outside] the body [of Christ].” 1 Cor. 6:18. A man cannot commit sin in Christ, no more than he can plow corn in the house: but if he wants to do it, just go out where it is, and the devil will give him a job right away. But he cannot do sin and be a child of God at the same time, no more than he can be a saint and a sinner at the same time. Because he that committeth sin is of the devil: a servant of sin (Jno. 8:34), a sinner.

CONTRARY TO NATURE.

Rom. 11:24. — “For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert grafted CONTRARY TO NATURE into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches be grafted into their own olive tree?” How do people get into the tame olive tree (Christ)? Ans. — “For ye are all the children of God BY FAITH in Christ Jesus.” Gal. 3:26. “For as many of you as have been baptized [by the Spirit, 1 Cor. 12:13] into Christ, have put on Christ.” 27. It is by faith that we are justified (Gal. 2:16), and God by his Spirit, puts us into Christ. Whom will God cut off, or take away? Ans. — Jno. 15:2. — “Every branch in me [Christ] that beareth not fruit, he [the Father] taketh away.” “Thou wilt say then, the branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in. Well, because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith: be not high minded, but fear: for if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.” Rom. 11:19-21.

Whosoever hath sinned” against me, him will I blot out of my book.” Ex. 32:33. We can see very plainly in the above scriptures, that a person does not have to be unborn; but God just simply cuts him off, as a worthless branch: “taketh away;” in other words, he (God) blots his name off the family record, which disinherits him. Some people (like Esau, Gen. 25:33) sell out, for a very small-sum: and others barter their soul away, to the devil; and even pledge their life-time to his service, to get him to take it. May God help the people to take warning, and not do that way.

Some try to prove by the word of God, that they can

SIN EVERY DAY, AND BE SAVED AS BY FIRE.

1Cor. 3:12-15. “Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. * * * If any man’s works shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he shall be saved; yet so as by fire.”

The above scripture, some people take to try to prove that they can sin as much as they please, and yet be saved, as by fire: as one man that I was talking with said, “I have believed [with the head], and been baptized; and Jesus says that I shall be saved (Mark. 16:16); and I have too much faith in my God, to be lost,” and yet he said that he sinned every day. Such people are sure to land in hell, unless they repent.

The work that shall be burned, has reference to this Babylon confusion in the world that has been built by men, and called “churches:” thereby claiming to be building upon this foundation (Christ, 1 Cor. 13:11). And the result is, a great heap of wood, hay, and stubble has been piled up to be consumed by the fire of holiness that is sweeping over the earth. That is the only fire that can both destroy error and save souls. So the text relates to ministers who have been honest, but their work was not thorough. Such receive the light of God, pass through the fire of the Holy Spirit, and get saved. And then they see their past work is all lost. So the fire that sanctified them destroyed their works. But this will only be true of such as receive the whole truth and die to sin.

“And the times of ignorance God winked at [overlooked], but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent.” Acts 17:30. God has overlooked such things in the past; but now commands the people to stop playing religion (such as opening sect doors), and repent, and get salvation; which puts them into the church that Jesus built. Jno. 10:9.

Though there have been souls saved in those places, or rather got saved and afterwards joined, during the cloudy day [Zech. 14:6) of sectism, it will justify no man in holding on, and pleading for such things, since the EVENING time has come (Zech 14:7), and the light of God is shining, and exposing the wicked deeds that are being done continually, in those institutions of men.

God has a few people in Babylon yet: therefore he says, “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unblievers [sinners], * * * Wherefore come out from among them [hypocrites and formalists], and be ye separate, SAITH THE LORD, and touch not the unclean thing [yoke]; and I will recieve you.” 2 Cor. 6:14-17. “Come out of her [sectism], MY PEOPLE, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye recieve not of her plagues.” Rev. 18:1-5. “From such unclean cages turn away. 2 Tim. 3:1-5. From such [vain janglers] withdraw thyself.” 1 Tim. 6:3-5. “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of [such] darkness, but rather reprove them.” Eph. 5:11.

WORKS BURNED. — Jer. 51:8, 9. Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed; howl for her: take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed; we would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her [God’s people], and let us go every one into [THE CHURCH OF GOD] his [our] own country. For her judgments reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies. Therefore shall her plagues come in one day: death, and mourning, and famine; and she [Babylon] shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her. Rev. 18:8. Everything that cannot stand the fire of God will be consumed.

SAVED AS BY FIRE. — Jer. 51:6, 10. “Flee out of the midst of [sect] Babylon, and deliver every man his soul [as by fire]. Be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the Lord’s vengeance: he will render unto her a recompense. The Lord hath brought forth our righteousness: come [out of sectism], and let us declare in Zion [the church. Heb. 12:22, 23.] the work of the Lord our God.”

We can plainly see that all the work of Babylon (sect) confusion, will be burned with fire: and every one that is converted, and in such a place through ignorance, will hear the voice of the Shepherd (Jesus) calling him out, for the time has come; and he will have to come, or be consumed with the wood, hay and stubble. If he obeys the voice, “COME OUT,” he shall suffer the loss of all his sect work, but he himself shall be saved, yet so as by fire, if so be he obeys the voice of God, and comes out of all sin and confusion.

All sin defiles, and Paul says in the same chapter, 1 Cor. 3:17, “If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy: for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.” This does not look like a man would be saved sinning every day. God will cut off, take away, destroy and take vengeance upon, all such men, unless they repent. 2 Thess. 1:6-9.

Dear Saints of God: One year ago last Sept. God saved me from all my sins. He afterwards sanctified and healed me, and I am now praising God for salvation full and free. I take the dear Lord for my physician. He has healed my little boy at different times. Your sister

Dear Saints: I feel like writing my testimony to the Trumpet. I have been a great sufferer for over a year. I felt as though I was alright with God, but still I would become offended when any one said anything about me or my family; and would say things that I ought not. But I went to Jesus with all my heart and I realize that he actually cleanses me, and saves me. Praise the Lord! Pray for me. Your saved sister,

Ella C. Randell.

To the Saints of God: God bless you all. I am so glad to report victory in my soul) God sweetly saves and keeps me by his power. Glory to his holy name! I give him all the praise. I lived a Methodist for twenty years, living a Christian life the best I knew under the preaching I heard. Of course, it was an up and down life. I knew nothing of the second grace. I was taught that we could not live here without sinning, but praise the Lord, four years ago I heard the blessing of sanctification preached. I saw at once that it. was the religion I must have. I consecrated myself to God at once and asked him to give me the blessing of a clean heart, and the Lord heard my prayers and wonderfully sanctified me. At that time I knew nothing of the evening light. About two years ago I was handed one of the GOSPEL TRUMPET papers which opened my eyes to the evening light. Last year in April, God sent two of his preachers down here to preach the true Word. I heard the voice of God calling me out of Babylon. I obeyed and came out, and was baptized. I am now preaching the pure Word. I ask all of God’s saints to pray for me. I am so glad that I am living free from sect Babylon, and there are no schisms in the body of Christ. Your brother in the one body,

J. E. Dye.

Dear Saints of God: I am saved and praising God for such a wonderful salvation. I can say with the poet, “I feel it so deep in my soul.” Praise the Lord? I am so thankful that I never joined any of the sects. For since I left my home in St. Clair, Tennessee, and came here to go to school I have been made to think of those beautiful words, “Father, forgive them; they know not what they do.” I am here with over one hundred students, and the majority professing to be Christians, but sorry to say that the most of them are like all other sectarians, sinning more or less everyday. I have seen some waltzing and then go to prayer meeting and take more part in the meeting than any one else. Some of the girls have come to me and asked me if it was that I was angry the reason that I did not take any part with them. I would talk to them, and some of them would say, “O if you never do anymore than that you will be saved.” That is the way the majority live their (so-called) Christain life. But I believe there are a few that live Christians as far as they have been taught, as they have never had the true gospel preached to them in all its purity. But I trust that God will send his true ministers here. I do not feel led of the Spirit to talk and pray in their prayer meetings as I do in ours at home. It is awful in the sight of God to hear their prayers. The words that most of them use are, “Forgive us our sins. We know we we do things we ought not to do, and leave undone things we ought to do.” Oh! how often I think of those words and wonder if they think the Lord hears them. Pray that I may be kept at the feet of Jesus. I need the prayers of the saints, for I am both young in years and in Christ. But I know he is able to keep me, for he answers my prayers and helps me in my daily needs. Praise the Lord! “His yoke is easy, and his burden is light. Your sister washed and redeemed in the wonderful blood,

Nona Kyle.

QUESTIONS.

_____

I have read with great interest “Questions and Answers on the Church.”

Nearly a year ago my wife and I withdrew from the denomination we had been under bondage to for more than thirty years, that we might obey the command, “Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” The statement has been repeatedly made to me, that it was necessary to organize as a denomination, either old or new, in order to hold legal title to a house of worship. Is this statement true? Your brother in Christ,

Amos Dresser, Jr.

221 W. Madison St.

No: a sufficient proof that the statement is not true, is the simple fact that in many states, the church of God hold and use meeting houses with no organization but the body of Christ, organized by the Holy Spirit.

Can a truly Justified person hold up holy hands?

Yes; because a justified child of God is holy, but not perfect in holiness.

Would it be in God’s order to wash one another’s feet, and take the Lord’s supper without a preacher; and if the persons have not yet been baptized?

In cases where the church is located far away from any minister, and it is not practical to have a true minister come to you, there would be nothing wrong in the church using these ordinances by themselves. And if saved in Jesus and not having had a suitable privilege to be baptized, that will not bar them from the use of the other ordinances. All who are the Lord’s have a right to the Lord’s table.

What is a scriptural course to pursue when a person who belongs to one or more secret lodges, and is insured in the United Workman or other lodges, and who takes charge of meetings, reads scripture lessons, also takes charge of the Bible, class without being invited to the position.

Also, sectarians taking a part who chew and smoke tobacco.

The entire Word is against the idea of God’s people having anything to do with organizations that are wrapped up in secret mysteries, or hold secret conclaves. The very thing of meeting regularly in secret is inconsistent with a Christian who is the light of the world. Jno. 3:20:21. Eph. 5:7-13.

Again the idea of a Christian holding membership in any compact or organization of a social or worldly character, largly composed of sinners is in direct opposition to the inspired discipline of the church of God. 2 Cor. 6:14-17.

Again the idea of carrying an insurance policy, and paying money to a worldly lodge or company, for the purpose of having your family supplied after: you are gone, is an abomination in the sight of God.

The Word requires all who belong to God to labor in their calling, and trust him for all things. Jesus positively forbids us taking thought what we shall eat, what we shall wear, or wherewithal shall we be clothed. For after all these things do the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knoweth that you have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. Mat. 6:31-33.

Just think of the son of a wealthy father entering into compact and covenant with enemies of his father in order to secure the necessaries of life. How much more the abomination and insult in the sight of God for persons claiming to belong to his family, going into secret conclave and oath-bound fraternity with the wicked, whose carnal minds are enmity against God, and in open rebellion to his law? What, but hateful unbelief of God’s word can lead to such an act? God says, “Make your requests known to God,” and he “will supply all your needs.” But the secret society and insurance policy man practically says, it is not safe to trust God. My children may be left to beg bread (Psa. 37:25) after I am taken away, I had better make friendship with the world. — See Jas. 4:4. 1 John 2:15-17. Pay money year after year to run and keep up institutions of the world, then if God should become bankrupt, the lodge will help us out. If his promises fail, the obligations of the ledge or insurance company, will hold good.

Thus we see that insurance lodge- ism is repugnant to God in all its features. Its secrecy is rebuked by his Word. Yoking up with it is utterly forbidden; and its insurance is an insult flung into the face of God, and a testimony against the ability of God to feed and care for his children.

And as to filthy professors, the only part that is acceptable in the sight of God for them to take in his assemblies, is down at the altar asking for mercy, and the cleansing blood. God demands entire separation of his bride from all the world and Babylon. But if any wish the friendship and fellowship of the world and Babylon, let them not presume to be of God’s holy remnant, the bride the Lamb’s wife.

But to the question, what to do in case of such intruding their services upon God’s church. We say, let God lead you. The course to pursue should be varied according to the wilfulness or ignorance of the parties. In the latter case much patience and longsuffering is required. In the former care these scriptures will apply, Titus 1:9-11. 3:10, 11. 2 Tim. 2:

24-26. Suffer not men who are thus disobeying the word of God to teach. Gal. 2:5. If a mistake has been made on the part of some minister, and such person has been ordained elder, the case is all the more deplorable. Great wisdom, patience, and humility will need to be manifest, and God only is to be trusted in disposing of the case. But if all stay on God in truth, fully trust the case in his hands, and each one do your duty and no more, such spots must and will be removed from your robes of righteousness. The church of the living God must not be exposed to the contempt of the world by such spots in her feasts of love. Labor with them in love and meekness privately, and if need be, “them that sin rebuke before all.” An elder in God’s church must be a pattern of Bible purity, unspotted from the world. Any man who is not willing to leave all to follow Christ is not worthy of him, nor fit to represent the present holy work of God.

Please explain Rev. 2d. and 3d chapters. The saints all teach that the Church is without spot or wrinkle, or any such thine, and yet here are the seven churches of Asia, and only one without spot. Your sister in the one body,

R. C. Baugh.

Since the object of this enquiry is stated, it is not needful to explain the chapters throughout. The New Jerusalem in chapters 21 and 22 present the church in its divine idea! “Having the glory of God, and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal.” “And the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.” So in many other places in the New Testament the church is set forth in its purity as a “holy nation,” a spotless virgin. But in the case of the seven churches of Asia, we see her not in her normal condition. He confessed they had “fallen,” and “left their first love.” Became “lukewarm.” But this state of things is not spoken of as an acceptable state of the church. Though called churches, this was only for the sake of such as “had not defiled their garments,” and with the view of the restoration of others. But with all this those fallen congregations were addressed much the same as sinners. About every one was commanded to repent, “Do thy first works.” This virtually classifies them back in the state of sinners, and demands them to meet the same conditions upon which they first obtained pardon. And though all together were addressed as the church until judgment should go forth and separation take place between the spotless and all who would not return under the cleansing blood. After these letters were sent to them, either they must return to God and do their first works, or now cease to be his church at all. “Repent, or I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.” Such a mixed and backslidden state is not to be tolerated. They must repent quickly or the Lord comes and cuts them off by his sword. To the church at Ephesus, he threatened, “come unto you quickly and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.” That is, he will quickly reject them as being his church at all. Unto the church at Laodicea he said he would “spew them out of his mouth” because they were lukewarm and neither cold or hot. He does not propose to allow such a cold, half- backslidden class to bear the name of his church. The whole description of these seven congregations, and the warnings addressed to them show that when people get cold or crooked, they must repent quickly, or be cut off by the Lord. Therefore all the formal frozen religions of our day have no place in Christ. Have been spewed out long ago, and dis-owned by the Lord.

A TABERNACLE WANTED.

There is a great need of another large tabernacle for west Nebraska and western Kansas, as the work is spreading fast and the Lord is raising up workers and ministers in many

places in the West. Now we believe we have some parties that will raise fifty dollars, and if some brother can advance a hundred dollars till fall your means will be returned to you, or most of it. My tabernacle is about worn out. May God direct this matter.

Dearly Beloved: We held one night over three weeks in Dr. Birdsall’s hall in Fenwick, which was a success from beginning to end. The first night of meeting live came to the altar for pardon, and altar services were kept up all through the meeting, and souls came flocking to the same. Some were delivered out of the U. B. sect, others who had never made any profession. We are now in the town of Welland, where God has opened up a door of utterance by renting a hall for one year. We are looking to God to do a great work in this town by saving many poor lost souls. We find Canada to be a great field of labor, and laborers few, and many calls. The Lord willing, we expect to have a tabernacle on the move for God about the first of June. Dear ones, my for us and the work in Canada. Yours all on the altar,

FLOATING BETHEL.

Wellsville, O., Apr. 8, 1895.

Dear Saints: The hand of the Lord is still upon us for good, and he is showing his power in a wonderful manner, and he gives us the blessed assurance that we are in his order. We held meetings two weeks in Congo, W. Va. While there were but few consecrations, the saints were much edified. Twelve were baptized and twenty took part in the ordinance meeting. Some were greatly taken with the truth who have not yet accepted it. There is quite a stir about this way in the daily papers, but more among the preachers.

Bro. and Sister Tubbs expect to join us in the work this week. Bro. Cheatham and I expect to go to Pittsburgh, Pa., to commence meeting to day. Many doors are opening in these parts and we are trusting the Lord to send the workers whom he can trust, as my wife and I will likely be off the boat part of the time. Your trusting brother,

Dear Children of God: We are praising the Lord for salvation and victory in our souls over all the works of the enemy. We have been laboring in Clarion, Crawford, and Erie counties the past winter, but have not been in the work for a short time on account of some temporal dunes, but expect to go in the work of the Lord by the first of May, the Lord willing. There are many calling for the truth in this country, but sectarians and truth fighters have closed their doors against us, so we believe the Lord wants us to get a tabernacle, for we know it is the Lord’s will that the Word he preached to every creature. If any of the brethren feel

Dear Saints of God: We are still happy to report victory on the Lord’s side. From North Point we went to Du Bois, Pa., and began a series of meetings. Part of the time we were compelled to hold in private houses. But the work of salvation moved on, and quite a few souls were saved. We were joined in this meeting by Bro. Wm. E. Warren and Co., from Mich., also Bro’s McCoy and Gallagher from Monterey, whom the Lord used much in the meetings. Bro’s McCoy and Gallagher will continue the work at that place for some time. Bro. Warren will begin a series of meetings at Grampion, Pa. We began meeting here last night. Are holding in the Opera house which will seat nearly one thousand people. This is a new field of labor. Please remember us in your prayers. Yours in perfect love,

Chicago, Ill., Apr. 15, 185.

Dear Brethren: Wife and I came to this place on Saturday. April 13, by the directions of the Lord to help in the work of the Lord at the “Open Door Mission,” secure reduced R. R. rates for the people who come to camp meeting, and also whatever other work the Lora would have us do. He has helped us in securing the rates, a notice of which will be published in the near future.

We met Bro. Tufts and his wife (formerly Sister Mary Housket per). who had abundance of work on hands in the Sodom part of the city, if any part more than another can be termed Sodom.

Our coming was of great rejoicing to them, as they had reached a critical point concerning the work, as they must give up the mission building in about two weeks, or sign a lease for the rent of the property for one year for $1,500.00; that is $125.00 a month; and they were to inform the owner at noon that day of their decision regarding the same. We gladly joined in earnest prayer to know the will of God, which was soon made known, and, the Lord willing, the papers will be signed to day.

This is situated at 129 Custom House Place, and 396 Dearborn Street. The large mission room is on the first floor. Here the hungry are fed free of charge after listening to the pure gospel. Then after the night services scores of homeless, penniless men gladly welcome the privilege of a bed on the bare floor without a particle of covering except what they wear, and with many that is scant.

After May 1st, the two stories or flats above the mission will be used for the rescue home work. One flat for the workers, the other for the home of rescued fallen girls. Nearly all these fourteen rooms will have to be papered, fitted up and furnished. Dear brethren everywhere, here is a chance for you to help in the exercise of your faith and prayers in behalf of the work and workers here, and the rescue of the fallen.

Several have written that they dessire to come and help in the work. We would say that there is need of many true, tried and qualified workers, but if you are afraid of the devil, or that your life will be taken at any moment, or are afraid to trust God for your food or do without, in fact, if you are not just where God wants you spiritually and have a special call of God, it is a poor place for you. A person needs to have on the whole armor to battle sin in these quarters.

Next week we will tell you something about the work in the slums, the Lord willing. God is saving … … every day and manifesting his power with signs and wonders.

Payne, O., Apr. 10, 1895.

Dear Brethren: With victory in my soul I testify to perfect salvation. I am saved and trusting the living God for all things. I have been at home for a few weeks. I left Bro’s Geo. W. Howard and A. J. Kilpatrick to continue the meeting near Sidney. O., where I had labored with them several days, during which time a few souls were reclaimed. There was a poor woman, Clara Smith, from Piqua, O., present, who in the past had been domineering and usurping authority and leadership over the few near Sidney and full of the anti-christ spirit, who made herself very forward and ridiculous in her outbursts of pretended praise. And when told her condition by the above brethren and myself, railed upon us and renounced us in very strong terms. I would not feel it my duty to say anything through the Trumpet about her were it not for safety of the flock in other localities, as the poor woman in her blind delusion with all her ignorance imagines herself called to preach and teach the Word. She is without salvation and full of fanaticism. The brethren who labored in the Carlisle, O., camp meeting last year, will remember her and her ungodly fanaticism in condemning all those who were so unfortunate as to need false teeth, etc. I write this for her good, hoping she may be willing to acknowledge her condition and get salvation.

After leaving this meeting Bro. Wm. L. Kilpatrick and I held a few services in Broughton. O., with good effect. Since then I have been doing what I could here at home. We had three days’ meeting here, beginning Friday, Apr. 5, and lasting over Lord’s day. Nine happy saints were immersed in water by Bro. Wm. L. Kilpatrick, Lord’s day p. m.

I am afflicted with hermia and am almost unfit for labor, but God does wonderfully help me in time of need, and my trust is in him. I desire every saint of God to pray for my healing as soon as you read this, that I may be again able to go forth to rescue the perishing. Pray for me. I am your brother in the one body, saved now,

J. N. Howard.

Manning, Mo., Apr. 8, 1895.

Dear Saints of the Living God: We held a three weeks’ meeting last month near Oran, Mo. This was a new field, but we found a people here who were hungry for the truth. They were stirred up by a few services which were held a short time before. We found stubborn opposition from the Baptist harlot daughter. During our whole work for the pure gospel we have never seen more ungodly opposition from sectism, such as slander, falsehood, twisting the word of God, etc. What a condition Babylon is in! Her hireling priests from least to greatest will, with the exception of a few honest souls yet found in her, twist the word of God wilfully. We are fully assured that the sect worshipers of to day are as blind as the Jews ever were.

Some wished us shot, and others that we were in the states prison. But amid all of their opposition God made his voice to be heard, and more than a dozen came out clear for the whole truth, and many other honest souls are yet deeply convicted. Praise God!

Soon after returning home Bro. Edwards came from Diehlstadt, a distance of more than thirty miles to get us to hold a short meeting there. Bro. Edwards had never heard a sermon preached in the clear light. The Spirit of God had led him out of sectism through reading the Word. He tried to get the house of the Methodist sect to hold a few days’ meeting in, promising them that he would pay for all their fuel, lights and incidental expenses for a year tree of cost to themselves if they would allow us to use it a few days; but not so. He then rented a vacant school house, paying three dollars a month for a year. We held only six services, but the power of the Holy Ghost was mightily manifest in his Word. Several are out on the whole truth and many more convinced. A good harvest will doubtless soon be gathered from the seed sown in this new field. Oh how the cries of the hungry and burden-bound are coming up from all parts of the earth! Surely the Lord of the harvest is hastening the work! Beloved, if God has laid his hand on you to bear his name before the nations, consult not your own convenience while the suffering millions are calling for help which you may give. Home and its comforts afford no attractions to hold us while souls are starving for the Word. Your brother and sister in the fellowship of the gospel,

R. M. and L. Haynes.

Blendon, Mich., Apr. 2, 1895.

Dear Saints of God, Greeting: May the richest blessings of heaven rest upon you forever. As I have not written to the Trumpet for a long time, I feel, especially impressed to tell of God’s goodness to me. In Jan. 1895, I recived a call and went to Montague, Mich., but being no opening for meeting there, I went to White Hall, to the Crusade meeting and testified to full salvation, which opened the way for meeting four or five miles in the country, where God saved some souls in a new place. A grand work was done for Jesus. Praise God! Andrew Poulson, Chief Templer at Muskegon, who lectured and organized lodges, came into the neighborhood where he had organized one, and attended the meetings, and after a hard struggle and rebuking the devil, God saved him. Praise God! It was a wonderful victory for our Captain. It stirred the beast powers, and some who were greatly convicted feared to walk in the light because of the opposition. Here God helped me to read and to talk Swede to his glory. Praise God!

From there I returned and spent a few days with my family, and then with my son Henry, and Eva, our little daughter, I went to Corinth, Mich., a new place, where the powers of darkness were so great I had some difficulty in opening the work, but after a few weeks of hard labor battling against the beasts of darkness and visiting from house to house, meeting opposition, and answering objections, God raised up and established a glorious church of his own planting. Some who had never been converted before, and some who had been in Babylon, but God called them out. Praise God! 2 Cor.6:14-17. God delivered one Adventist from that abominable doctrine, and saved her. I never realized such wonderful help from God to explain difficult scriptures brought as objections against the truth.

We closed with a grand ordinance meeting. Many very remarkable cases of healing in Jesus’ name were done, much to the glory of God. I preached one night in the Advent neighborhood to a houseful, with one day’s notice; and the school house is open for meetings if some one could go there. Bro. Wooden assisted awhile in the meetings at Corinth, but returned home. Afterwards we held meetings at Moline in a very large hall and had large crowds and good interest, but great opposition. Some accepted the truth here. One infidel, who denied the Bible and the existence of God, accepted the truth, and is a terror to sectarians and hypocrites. Brother Samuel Alexander was with us in those meetings. One old English man seventy-nine years old was converted. There were a few conversions, but there being such oppositions and feeling against the truth, we felt led to close. The last night God led me to give the truth on the evils of sectism, till it awakened quite an interest, and some members of sects came after meeting and asked me to come back again, and bid us God-speed. I believe after they study awhile there will be a good opening. There were a few other calls around at school houses, but we felt God wanted us to come here, and on the way spent one night in Grand Rapids. We attended a mission and the children sang a hymn. And at the close I got to speak which caused such an awakening and interest that they invited us to come back, which we feel led to do. We feel God is leading us to go there soon and open the work in the city, and that will open other places in the country. I wish to say that God did wonderfully use Henry and dear little Eva in singing the precious gospel. I have complete victory over all and God saves me by two works of grace.

Dear Saints of God: I am praising God for a salvation that saves and keeps me from all sin. Bless his dear name! I can truly say I have the peace and joy in my soul that is unspeakable. I do thank God that he did do this work for me and he gave me the light on sectism. Oh how I was wrapped up in the sect (W. M.) While I was in there I could not partake of their evil ways, such as picnics and Christmas trees. And I heard a voice saying, “Come out of her; be ye not partakers of her sins.” I do praise God that he delivered me. Bless his dear name for his goodness! I know our God is a living God; he is always willing to help us in time of need. I praise God that he has so many that are willing to stand alone with Jesus and on the Bible line. How the Lord is working with souls! I do pray that God will send more of his fire-brands in the work. Several fields are open here; souls are anxious for the truth. The Lord gives us glorious prayer meetings. I love the narrow way, it grows brighter and brighter every day, and my soul is satisfied in Jesus, saved and sanctified. Your sister in the one body,

Dear Saints of God: I was a member of the Wesleyan sect for nine years. It was twelve months last August since God in his wisdom sent the dear saints here to preach the Word. I heard them preach on the oneness of God’s people, and I knew it was the truth, and wished to do right, but my husband and children were so much opposed to my leaving the Wesleyans. Oh, I tried hard to stifle my conscience, but, dear ones, I had a hard time of it until I was willing to pay the price, leave all and follow Jesus. He washed me from my sins in his own blood. Glory be to his name! Pray for me. From your tried sister, saved and sanctified,

Dear Saints: I do praise the name of the most high God for his goodness toward the children of men, and for his loving kindness in delivering me from the power of darkness. I find his blessed words to be so true. Oh such precious lessons! I find that the more that we learn of God and the more we follow his steps the brighter grows the path, the easier the yoke, and the lighter the burden. And I have learned of the dear Lord that they that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. “The grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world.” This is a blessed way to live. Praise the Lord! And now, dear praying people, pray much for the unsaved of this place. I do know that Jesus saves me just now.

Dear Gospel Trumpet: Truly I can say that I am glad I lived to hear God’s straight word preached, and by his Spirit enabled me to free myself from all things that divide and cause confusion. I have been in

this (unpopular) glorious way for three months, and praise the Lord, the way gets brighter all the way, with the blessed assurance that it is better farther on. I am glad for the willingness to take the straight truth and live by it regardless of all the whims and notions of men. Truly it brings peace and joy in the Holy Ghost for one to be thus established according to his Word. Isaiah 54:14. “In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression, for thou shalt not fear, and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.” Glory to Jesus for saving, sanctifying, and keeping power, that saves me from all sin. Dear Saints of God: The Lord led me to write my testimony. I was afflicted with catarrh of the stomach and suffered a long time before I came to the Lord with it, but as soon as I gave myself to him and made a full surrender he healed me. Praise his name! He does all things well. One night I awoke and heard wings over my bed, did not know what it was at the time. The next night I awoke about the same time and heard a voice speaking to me. It said, “You are healed, claim it; the devil will cheat you out of your healing just the same as he will out of your salvation.” And I have been claiming it and lave been getting better ever since. And I find the Lord able to keep the body as well as the soul. I feel there is nothing that could separate me from the love of God. I know that am on the right road, and by his help I will stay in the narrow path. I find it impossible to please the Lord without obedience. He keeps me sweetly saved and gives me victory over the enemy. There are only a few saints here, and we pray the good Lord to send a called preacher here. Your sister saved by the blood of Jesus.

Lev. 8:7—15 — And he put upon him the coat, and girded him with the girdle, and clothed him with the robe, and put the ephod upon him, and he girded him with the curious girdle of the ephod, and bound it unto him therewith. And he put the, breastplate upon him: also he put in the the breastplate the Urim and the Thumim. And he put the mitre upon his head; also upon the mitre, even upon his forefront, did he put the golden plate., the holy crown; as the Lord commanded Moses. And Moses took the anointing oil, and anointed the tabernacle and all that was therein, and sanctified them. And he sprinkled thereof upon the altar seven times, and anointed the altar and all his vessels, both the laver and his foot, to sanctify them. And he poured of the anointing oil upon Aaron’s head, and anointed him, to sanctify him. And Moses brought Aaron’s sons, and put coats upon them, and girded them with girdles, and put bonnets upon them; as the Lord commanded Moses. And he brought the bullock for the sin offering: and Aaron and his sons laid their hands upon the head of the bullock for the sin offering. And he slew it; and Moses took the blood, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about with his finger, and purified the altar, and poured the blood at the bottom of the altar, and sanctified it, to make reconciliation upon it.

22-24 — And he brought the other ram, the ram of consecration: and Aaron and his sons laid their hands upon the head of ram. And he slew it; and Moses took of the blood of it, and put it upon the tip of Aaron’s right ear, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot. And he brought Aaron’s sons, and Moses put of the blood upon the tip of their right ear, and upon the thumbs of their right hands, and upon the great toes of their right feet: and Moses sprinkled the blood upon the altar round about. 30 — And Moses took of the anointing oil, and of the blood which was upon the altar, and sprinkled it upon Aaron, and upon his garments, and upon his sons, and upon his sons’ garments with him; and sanctified Aaron and his garments, and his sons, arid his sons’ garments with him.

SEPARATION IN TYPE.

Ezra 6:21 — And the children of Israel, which were come again out of captivity, and all such as had separated themselves unto them from the filthiness of the heathen of the land, to seek the Lord God of Israel, did eat.

10:3—5 — Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the council of my lord, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God: and let it be done according to the law. Arise; for this matter belongeth unto thee: we also will be with thee: be of good courage, and do it. Then arose Ezra, and made the chief priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they would do according to this word. And they sware,

9:1-8 — Now when these things were done, the princes came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the lands, doing according to their abominations, even of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites. For they have taken of their daughters for themselves, and for their sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of those lands: yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass. And when I heard this thing, I rent my garment and my mantle, arid plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down astonied. Then were assembled unto me every one that trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the transgression of those that had been carried away; and I sat astonied until the evening sacrifice.

And at the evening sacrifice I arose up from my heaviness; and having rent my garment and my mantle, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto the Lord my God, and said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens. Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great trespass unto this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day. And now for a little space grace hath been shewed from the Lord our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage.

Neh. 13:3-9 — Now it came to pass, when they had heard the law, that they separated from Israel all the mixed multitude.

And before this, Eliashib the priest, having the oversight of the chamber of the house of our God, was allied unto Tobiah: and he had prepared for him a great chamber, where aforetime they laid the meat offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the corn, the new wine, and the oil, which was commanded to be given to the Levites, and the singers and the porters; and the offerings of the priests. But in all this time was not I at Jerusalem; for in the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon came I unto the king, and after certain days obtained I leave of the king. And I came to Jerusalem, and understood of the evil that Eliashib did for Tobiah in preparing him a chamber in the courts of the house of God. And it grieved me sore: therefore I cast forth all the household stuff of Tobiah out of the chamber. Then I commanded, and they cleansed the chambers: and thither brought I again the vessels of the house of God, with the meat offering and the frankincense.

Lev. 19:19 — Ye shall keep my statutes. Thou shalt not let thy cattle gender with a diverse kind; thou shalt not sow thy field with mingled seed; neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woolen come upon thee.

THE ANTITYPE. 2 Cor. 6:14-18 — Be ye not unequally yoked with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? and what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them: and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. 7:1 — Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

DEDICATION IN TYPE.

Ex. 40:34, 35 — Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.

1 Kings 8:5 — And king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel, that were assembled unto him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen, that could not be told nor numbered for multitude. 10, 11 — And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the Lord. So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of the Lord.

2 Chron. 5:1 — Thus all the work that Solomon made for the house of the Lord was finished: and Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had dedicated; and the silver, and the gold, and all the instruments, put he among the treasures of the house of God. 6 — Also king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel that were assembled unto him before the ark, sacrificed sheep and oxen, which could not be told nor numbered for multiude. 11-14 – And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place: (for all the priests that were present were sanctified, and did not then wait by course: also the Levites which were the singers, all of them of Asaph, of Heman, of Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren, being arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them a hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets:) it came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the Lord, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the Lord; so that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of God.

7;1-3 — Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from from heaven, and consumed the burnt offerring and the sacrifices; and the glory of the Lord filled the house. And the priests could not enter into the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord’s house. And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the Lord upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshiped, and praised the Lord, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth forever.

THE ANTITYPE. Acts 2:1-4 — And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

GOD’S DEMAND.

Rom. 12:1, 2 — I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.

THIS IMPLIES A COVENANT.

Gen. 15:18 — In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates.

17:7 — And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee and to thy seed after thee.

WHAT IS IT?

Luke 1:72-75 — To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant; the oath which he sware to our father Abraham, that he would grant unto us, that we, being delivered out of the hands of our enemies, might serve him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

BY SACRIFICE.

GOD’S PART. Heb. 10:5-9 — Wherefore, when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldst not, but a body hast thou prepared me: in burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me) to do thy will, O God. Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldst not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; then, said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. he taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. 10 — By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

13:12 — Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.

MAN’S PART.

Psa. 50:5 — Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.

THE CHARACTER OF THIS COVENANT.

Isa. 55:3 — Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

Heb. 8:10 — For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people.

13:20, 21 — Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Our affections cannot be divided in this perfect sacrifice. Luke 10:27. There is no medium. Soul, body and substance are eternally given to Him. No creature can share with Him. Not the slightest shade, or atom must be allowed to come between us and the object of our love.

THIS BRINGS US INTO THE MARRIAGE STATE WITH HIM.

1Cor. 6:15-17 — Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. What! know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he shall be one flesh. But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. 19, 20 — What! know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are are not your own? for ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

2 Cor. 5:15 — And that he died for all, that they which live, should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

Rom. 7:4 — Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

A PERFECT UNION.

Jno. 14:20, 21 — At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. 23 — Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my. Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

THE SEAL OF THIS UNION.

THE TYPE.

Gen. 17:10 — This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; every man child among you shall be circumcised.

Rom. 4:11 — And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also.

THE ANTITYPE. Eph. 1:13 — In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation in whom also, after that ye believed, ye were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.

4:30 — And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

2 Cor. 1:22 — Who hath also sealed us, and given us the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

THE FRUITS OF THIS UNION.

Rom. 6:22 — But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

7:4 — Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

Gal. 5:22-24 — But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

CONCLUSION.

1 Pet. 4:1, 2 — Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

Col. 3:1-4 — If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, and not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

TESTIMONIES.

“Thy Testimonies are Wonderful.” Psa. 119:129.

__________

Grooms, Ky.

Dear Saints: My testimony is, I am saved and sanctified. I was first justified, afterwards sanctified. I am praising God this morning for salvation from all sin. I am walking in the light as he is in the light. 1 John 1:7. When the blessed Lord saved me he saved me from every thing contrary to his word. Praise his name! Your brother in the one body,

J. H. Long.

My Beloved Brethren: Be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, for as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. I am a Dane and cannot very well read the English language. I would like to have the Sabbath tract and other of your tracts translated into my own language. I am trying to spread the light of the world, Jesus my Savior, among my countrymen. Bless the Lord, O my soul! I am very glad to hear from you brethren, may we all be faithful. Remember me in your prayers. Your brother in the faith,

U. K. Thaanum.

_____

March 20, 1895.

Dear Saints of the Most High God: I feel led of the Spirit to write a few lines to the Trumpet. I am saved in Jesus. Pray for me, that I may stand firm. Pray for my wicked husband, who does not fear God, nor regard man. He will not allow me any privileges in Christ Jesus. Will not allow me to read the Bible. He will take it away from me, or take the lamp away and leave me in the dark. Sometimes when at prayer he will push me over on the floor. Will not allow me to read the Trumpet, will burn every paper I can get. Will not allow me to sing those beautiful songs. He burned my song book. Burns ail the tracts I bring home. Has burned Bibles. The one I now have he. has thrown on the floor, and out of doors until it is all broken. There are but three of the dear saints in this neighborhood, and the Lord directed us to meet to worship him. Now we have the promise. “Where two or three are gathered together in any name, there am I in the midst of them.” So I went to meeting last Sunday, and when I returned home in the evening, husband had the doors all locked and would not let me in, and said I never should stay at home any more, I stayed around the house till I was so cold I could not stay any longer. It was then about dark. The children cried and begged me to come in, but he said I could freeze. He told me to leave and come back in the morning, and he wanted to divide our things. I went to one of my neighbors, stayed all night and went home in the morning. He asked me what I wanted of the furniture. I said all of it, I cannot keep house without it. Well, what are you going to do? I said, stay at home, take care of my children, work hard, and help make a living. Well are you going to church any more? I said, yes, if the Lord willed I was determined to go. He said he would not hinder me any longer; but said I could not stay at home any longer. After cursing and abusing me shamefully, he made me take my little children and leave home. He then took our chest and a few other peices of furniture, some meat and lard and moved them to Sister Abbie Kimbels. I have the children with me. The oldest girl is seventeen, the boy thirteen, the next five, and the youngest three years old. I am all given up to the Lord. His will is mine. Your sister in the one body,

Martha Pepple.

The above sad story is painful to our heart. The persecuted is our own sister in the flesh. We know the circumstances of the case, and vouch for the truthfulness of what has been stated above. Sister Martha in a private letter to me requested that I should ask all the saints through the Trumpet to pray for her wicked husband. Let every saint therefore as soon as he has read this sad story, fall upon his knees and pray God to take that wicked man in hands and save him if possible. Pray also that he may provide for her sustenance. Sister Abbie Kimbel who is mentioned in the above letter is also our sister, and is a widow and very poor, not able to maintain Sister Martha very long. Any one desiring to write to Sister Martha direct your letter to Abbie Kimbel, North Star, Darke Co., O., and it will come safely into her hands. Your sanctified brother,

Wm. G. Schell.
