HE LEADETH ME.

_____

In pastures green He leadeth me,
My faltering steps he guides;
And for my need how graciously
My Shepherd still provides.

In pastures green He leadeth me,
Where healthful waters flow;
He spreads his banner over me,
My shield from every foe.

In pastures green he leadeth me,
To Him my voice I’ll raise,
Whose loving kindness tenderly
Has followed all my days.

In pastures green he leadeth me,
No ill my soul shall fear;
His rod and stair shall comfort me,
For He is ever near.

In pastures green He leadeth me,
Restores me in His love;
He heals my aches and all my pains,
Prepares my home above.

In pastures green He leadeth me,
I walk with Him alway;
And as I walk he strengthens me,
He is my life, my stay.

SALVATION.

_____

O READER! have you given attention to that which is contain-in the word SALVATION? O man! think of this; it concerns you more than all other objects taken together for which the whole world is in pursuit. Salvation is worth a thousand times more than health of body; in comparison with which men consider money no object; and for the hope of regaining they lavish gold and greenbacks as free as dirt.

Salvation is more to be desired than all the glory and pleasure that the highest honors of earth can yield. Yea, it places the soul upon a plane so elevated as to receive the admiration and adoration of heaven. “If any man serve me, — saith the Lord, — him will my Father honor.” — John 12:26. It places a man far above the highest object of earthly ambition. It gives him a kingdom greater than Alexander or Napoleon ever swayed scepter over. “It is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom,” even the “kingdom of heaven.” “They which receive abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one Jesus Christ.” — Rom. 5:17. And this glorious reign is not located in some future age; but John, writing to the seven churches in Asia, in the first century of Christian grace, declared that Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the prince of the kings of the earth, him that loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood, hath also “made us kings and priests unto God and his Father.” Rev. 1:5, 6. As again seen in this beautiful book of symbols, at the very opening of the plan of redemption, the blood- washed celebrated the praises of God with a “new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; and hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.” — Rev. 3:9, 10. And Peter calls God’s church a “royal priesthood;” i. e., a priesthood of kings.

All who live in sin are slaves to their own lusts, and are not able to govern themselves; but salvation makes us kings in rule over our own selves, over our passions, appetites and desires. “And he that ruleth his spirit is greater than he that taketh a city.” — Prov. 16:32. Salvation also places us in kingly triumph over all the elements of this world; over sin, fashion, and popular sentiments; and over the devil himself, who claims to be ruler of earth. A master of the situation of life, with a peace that nothing disturbs, and a joyful faith in God which sees all thi.. … … together for our good, … … ..o our happiness.

Salvation is greater riches than all the gold, silver and valuable treasures of this earth summed up together. A treasure that never faileth; a wealth so great that to the happy possessor every thing of earth is, in comparison, reduced to dust and dirt. Oh “the unsearchable riches of Christ!” Eph. 3:8. “Ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor that ye through his poverty might be rich.” — 2 Cor. 8:9. How rich? “He that overcometh shall inherit all things.” — Rev. 21:7. “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” — Rom. 8:32. Yea, hath given. “For all things are yours; whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours.” — 1 Cor. 3:22.

So teaches the word of God, and so bear witness all who have tested its wonderful claims. Reader, look back over that long line of holy martyrs who, in the possession of this great treasure, gloried in tribulations, and shouted for joy amid the flames, disdaining life, with all it could offer when tendered to them as a compensation for their hope in Christ; and there behold the eternal and incalculable value of salvation. If then, such unbounded wealth, such innumerable blessings, and such infinite bliss and happiness are all treasured up in SALVATION, who can afford to be indifferent to the gracious treasure?

The Gog and Magog Army

__________

Is surely being gathered by the spirits of devils. And the same thing will represent the last stage of the apostasy, “the image of the beast.” Rev. 13. We take the following from the WATCH TOWER, of Sept. 1, 1895.

“At Ayer yesterday thirty-one clergymen, representing six denominations, Baptist, Congregtionalist, Roman Catholic, German Evangelical, Unitarian and Universalist, organized a ministerial union to be known as the United Religious Association, the object of which is ‘fellowship and acquaintance with each other’s religions doctrines, local co-operation with each other on the basis of love to God and man, and to the furtherance of all social reforms and the bringing in of the kingdom of God.’ Rev. P. A. McKenna, of the Catholic church at Marlboro, said that he was present with the willing consent of Vicar General Byrne, in the absence of the archbishop, and expressed the most cordial interest in the objects of the association. He was especially emphatic on his Americanism and was heartily applauded by his Protestant associates.”

Here are steps in the direction of a confederation of Romanism and Protestantism. Our readers will remember that some months ago we published a similar move in Bay City, Mich. These are remarkable strides in the direction of fulfilling the word of God, the healing of the beast from the wound received by the Reformation. A brother living in that country recently informed us that the Protestant preachers gave as a reason for the formation of the organization, that they wished to “defend the Roman Catholic Church because she is their mother.” Here is virtual acknowledgement that they are the harlot daughters of the mystery of iniquity. And now these daughters seek a more intimate acquaintance with their mother, and with her doctrine. It is easy to foresee what the result will be. In their spiritual blindness Rome will have but little difficulty to make them believe that she is the true church. And though it will not be practical to utterly abandon their own idolized sect, they will soon be ready to join lands in one general confederation “with all sorts of armor,” “to compass the camp of the saints and the beloved city,” and make common cause against the truth and holiness that is of God in Christ Jesus. She being the oldest will have accorded to her certain special honors, for which she in turn will sacrifice her boasted exclusiveness, and acknowledge Protestantism as being true churches with her. And so will the “wound that was made by the sword” of truth over three hundred years ago be healed. It is sure to come to pass, and with it persecution will come against the remnant, the beautiful city. But God is upon the throne, and truth will triumph. In fact we see two glorious results that must arise from the coming storm. First, There are many noble hearts in sectism who would never be awakened to see her fall, and escape out of her, were it not for her consolidation with the corrupt old mother, and their joint war against Bible holiness. Second, The persecution that will come against the saints of God will help to purify and settle all deeper into God, and drive back any who are not minded to suffer the loss of all things for Christ’s sake. Amen. The Lord is at hand.

__________

THE CHARACTERISTICS OF ALL OF GOD’S PEOPLE.

_____

UNDER the clear light of the gospel there are but two classes of men: those who recognize, fear and love God, and those who do not. The Bible makes this very clear distinction, “The children of God and the children of the devil.” To belong to the latter class, is not to be necessarily what one would call very bad; it is simply to live to please yourself. He who serves himself, Mr. Wesley says, in effect serves the devil. The reason is, there is no division line to be drawn. We are either for God or against him. “He that is not for me is against me; he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.” This goes to prove there are but two classes of men, under light those who are of God, and those who are not of God.

But this does not imply that all believers are in just the same spiritual state, having the same measure or depth of experience. But it does imply what it would seem some in their opposition to holiness forget — THAT ALL BELIEVERS ARE EQUALLY COMMITTED TO TRUTH IN CHRIST AS THEY ARE ABLE TO APPREHEND IT. That poor penitent sinner who comes to Christ seeking the forgiveness of his sins, when he reaches the point where he is, and can be forgiven, is just as sincere as he ever can be; he is just as true to the truth as he can apprehend it as he ever can be; though he is not so pure and so strong as he will be if he follow on to know the Lord. When a man becomes wholly sanctified to God he is not stronger in his purposes to truth which comes to him the moment he is sanctified, than he was to truth which came to him the moment he was forgiven. He has only now received truth definitely, and understanding, in its fullness of application to his soul. He did not apprehend the whole nature of his disease before as he could after he learned the length and breadth of the truth of Christ in its full application to his soul. His faith could not take it in, as he could not have the faith to receive it before the truth was thus set before him; because “faith Cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” It was on this principle that the apostle thanked God for the faith and love of the church at Thessalonica; for he said that he was praying night and day that he might see them, and perfect that which was lacking in their faith.

God’s people are a holy people; they have never been anything else and never will be anything else. Any one who is ashamed of that characteristic, is not of God, whatever he may profess. Satan does not fight against Satan. The kingdom of God is not divided against itself; because the children of God are agreed to what is truth; that is, as to what is the will of God; and manifestly, and without controversy, the will of the Lord is that God’s people should be holy. This is so clearly revealed that no living man under light, of ordinary intelligence can mistake its import; and no living man under light professing and POSSESSING TRUTH, can speak against holiness without speaking understandingly against the will of God.

In proof of this when Moses went up into the mount, God said to him, Thus shalt thou say to the children of Israel, “Now therefore, it ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine. And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation.” He said again, “For I am the Lord your God; ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy.” So many times does God utter these words or language of the same import, that the children of Israel must have thought, if they were rebellious, that God was making a hobby of holiness.

When we come down to this dispensation Jesus says, “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.” He said the same thing to the church by the mouth of the apostle: “But as he which has called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation: because it is written, Be ye holy for I am holy,” And of the people of God it is written, “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people, that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” In prophecy he speaks of this dispensation of the Spirit when he should pour out his Spirit, and says, “An highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall he called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it, but the redeemed shall walk there.” If the redeemed are not walking this way, where are they walking?

That this might be the experience of the church, Christ gave himself for it, that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word, that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, but that it should be holy and without blemish. This does not refer to some future time; for it is written, that our “Savior Jesus Christ who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” This provision of redemption is now perfectly completed. It was not perfect under the old law, and the tabernacle “which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, which could not make him that die the service perfect as pertaining to the conscience: which stood only in the meats and drinks and divers waskings, and carnal ordinances imposed on them till the time of reformation. But Christ being come a high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building, neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood, he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For if the flood of bulls and of goats and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh, how much more then shall the blood of Christ; who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God.” So it is written, “By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better Testament. Wherefore he is able to also save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.” This all reveals of God concerning his people, as respects holiness, and the perfect provision he has made for his people to measure up to his will.

This is God’s will. Do you now agree with God in this? If not, of course you must walk apart and away from God; for God says two cannot walk together without they be agreed. If you say you do agree with it, then in the name of all consistency never speak lightly of holiness or those who seek to walk in this way, which God declares he has cast up for the redeemed to walk in, and which he declares, “shall be called the way of holiness.” Don’t speak lightly of it lest you commit a sin of which you will not repent. Some have done this and they will never become right with God and make any progress in spiritual affairs until they repent, and make humble confession before God and man. This is God’s word and will, and all of God’s people of any intelligence in his word recognize this truth and are seeking to live with an eye single to this great purpose of God in them. If they have not the full experience in their soul it is their privilege to have; they are aiming at it, hungering and thirsting after righteousness, and Jesus says they are blessed and shall be filled.

What are God’s people then? Are they an unholy people? a people indifferent to truth? a people opposite to holiness? In a word, are they a people indifferent to God’s word and will, which is, “BE THOU HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY?” The thing is impossible, even unthinkable. God says of his people, They are “a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people: that they should shew forth the praises of him who hath called them out of darkness into his marvelous light.” The church of God then is one having one hope, one purpose, “one Lord, one faith, one baptism.” For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to promise. Are ye Christ’s? Then you are committed to holiness and are holy, for if you are born of God you are like your Father. Have you realized the fullness of the work of the Spirit by the entire cleansing of your nature from sin?

GRAND JUNCTION ASSEMBLY MEETING.

This meeting will be held the Lord willing, Oct. 1-10, at the camp ground one mile north of Grand Junction. Many are looking forward to this gathering together of the children of God as one of great power and glory on account of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit when his saints shall meet to worship in the beauty of holiness, and sinners yield their hearts to Him, and the sick be healed of their diseases. Questions.

_____

Can a sanctified person make a mistake?

Is it right to be almost always preaching against Babylon on the street and in the house?

R. W. S.

Ans. to first. Yes, it is possible; but it is our privilege and duty to live so close to God, and to hold such close communion with the great Head of the body that they will be very few.

Ans. to second. No; it is not right to thresh Babylon all the time. The only way of success to ourselves and others is to let the Spirit of God lead us, and it will show the people the salvation of the Bible, and the things God hath prepared for those who love him. Then when the proper time comes, the threshing will be done in meekness and love of Jesus. When God sends forth his word against their mass of corruption then it accomplishes that whereunto he has sent it: But if we in our own strength undertake to pour out judgment against her, then the result is people are driven from the truth, and we have gotten out of God’s order. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” Rom. 8:14. “For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.” Mat. 10:20.

Dearly Beloved Brethren: The camp meeting has come and gone with the rapid flight of time that is bearing to eternity the souls of men, saved or unsaved. It was much blessed of the Lord in reaching many that were deeply stained in the sins so commonly noticed among men to-day. About fifty consecrations were made during the week, thirty-nine were baptized and near 100 enjoyed the ordinance of feet- washing. There was not the outward show to the world that has formerly been manifest, but for inward experiences that will make outward results during the coming year, and for general advancement among the faithful it was decidedly the best camp meeting we have been blessed with at this place.

Galatia, Ill.

Dear Trumpet Readers: After the camp meeting at Grand Junction had closed we left for Sullivan, Ill. We commenced a meeting in the name of the Lord, and although the darkness was thick we had perfect victory in our souls over all the opposing elements. We held meetings in the Reedy school house about two weeks and the Lord did wonderfully bless in sowing good seed. The dear little ones at that place are building a nice little chapel 26×40. Dear Bro. Davison and I laid the foundation for them and helped them until they got it partly inclosed, and held meetings every night about six miles away. We went from the above named place to Eugene, Ind., and held meeting about two weeks there. We found a good home with dear Bro. Craft and Bro. Watson. May the Lord bless them both for the kind favors showed to us. The meeting resulted in about nineteen consecrations, and eight were buried with Christ in baptism, for which we give God all the glory. We left the meeting in the care of dear Bro. Husted. We returned to Illinois and held meetings in two other different places. We then came to a little town in southern Illinois called Galatia, where there are three synagogues, all within almost a stone’s throw of each other. May God help them to see their condition, is my prayer.

Atlantic, Pa., Sept. 12.

Dear Brethren and Trumpet Readers: The Emlenton, Pa. camp meeting was a success. Victory was on the Lord’s side from beginning to end. All the saints that were at the commencement of the meeting could not remain until the close, while others coming in later remained to the close of the meeting. Although there was coming and going yet there was a large congregation of saints on the ground through the entire meeting. There were many consecrations during the meeting and the greater part of them appeared to get a good experience. Several of the workers, we have reason to believe, received a benefit, and went to labor in the vineyard of the Master, better prepared for his service. May God bless them in their work of winning souls to God. The Lord manifested his power in healing the bodies of several that were suffering on account of bodily afflictions. There were about seventeen followed the Lord in baptism, after which the God of peace gave us a glorious ordinance service in which upward of one-hundred saints proved the saying of Jesus in the gospel by St. John 13:17; “If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.” Remember us, dear brethren, in your prayers.

Yours and Christ’s,

Fenwick, Ont., Sept. 6.

To the Saints abroad, Greeting: I am glad to report victory in the name of Jesus Praise the Lord! Well since the June camp meeting I have been laboring principally in Canada as co-laborer with Bro. J. A. Dillon, during which time we held a successful tabernacle meeting in Berlin. A few consecrations, and seven were baptized, leaving a glorious church, though few in number, yet thank God filled with the fire and real go-through for God. We then held meeting in the hall at Welland for a short time, after which we started for Pennsylvania to attend the Erie county camp meeting, arriving at McLallen Corners Aug. 10. We preached in the saints’ chapel Sunday, and on Tuesday, Aug 13, we commenced meeting in the grove at Bro. J. H. Saunders, near the saints’ new Bethel. We felt that God would be pleased in having more ministerial help, so while we were praying God sent Bro. A. J. Kilpatrick, Bro. Geo. Howard and wife and Sister Fry. God used all his servants in putting forth the Word. All things worked in perfect harmony. Some were justified, others sanctified. And other ungodly spirits were dealt with both privately and publicly. They not being willing to square up, of course remained crooked. The devil tried hard to make inroads among some of the professed saints. But thank God judgment was given, and proved true as David said, “The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.” On Wednesday we met by the river where Bro. Dillon baptized thirteen happy saints, after which we partook of the ordinances. About seventy participated in the solemn scene. God bless the church of the living God at that place is our prayer. Meeting closed on Thursday, and we returned to Canada to attend the Canada camp meeting which was commenced on the day appointed by Bro. Dillon. My wife being sick with a fever, I was hindered from being there until it was about half through. But by faith and prayer she is much better. We are having a severe struggle with the devil and the stupid condition of the people, however a few souls are getting free. Praise the Lord! It has pleased God to let me pass through deep waters, but in spite of seeming discouragements I am bound to stand true and loyal to God and his cause. Brethren, bear us up by your prayers, as we are assured you have been doing of late especially. Your decided brother,

A. M. Bixler.

Jeffersonville, Ky., Sept. 10.

Dear Saints of God: Since our last report we have held meetings as follows: At Johnson Station; Winchester; Stony-Point; Cook’s Branch school house; then back to Johnson Station; and then to the Assembly meeting, at Spruce school house. The Lord has been with us in much power, and souls have been saved at every meeting: and some have been healed by the power of God, in answer to prayer. Praise his holy name! The meeting at Johnson Station was well attended each time; and a great many people acknowledged the truth. And there were about fifteen came to the mercy seat, and four were buried with Christ in baptism. We only had two services at Winchester and one soul was sanctified. And at Stony Point there were eight or ten at the altar, and the church was strengthened in the faith. To God be all the glory! The meeting at Cook’s Branch was a seed sowing time. Two dear souls came to the Lord, and were saved. I believe others will get saved in the near future.

We also attended a meeting in Morgan Co. at Ezel, held by J. A. Howard, and co-workers. Had the privilege of preaching one time; and Sister Stevenson, who was with us preached once. The Lord blessed his Word, and I am sure it will not return void. We found in that young daughter of Babylon, as in others, a few honest souls; and no doubt some were born of God, while many only have a profession, without salvation. And though they have the name (Church of God) all right, they proved themselves to be a sect, by not receiving the whole truth. And many of them are ready to speak evil of the way of truth. 2 Pet. 2:2. May the Lord deliver all who are honest. The Assembly meeting at Spruce, was a very precious feast to our souls. The power of God was with us all the way through the meeting, in saving souls, and healing the sick. Praise his name! A good work was done, in Jesus’ name, Sept, 7, nine were buried with Christ in baptism, by dear Brother Schreiber, After which we had a precious ordinance service, in which about seventy happy saints took part. During which time the good Lord fulfilled his promise. Jno. 13:17. The ministers present, were dear Bro. W, B. Schreiber, W. T. Hall, and H. F. Dunagan, whom the Lord used in preaching his word. And others who have been lately called into the ministry, were present, who were a great help in the meeting. May the Lord ever bless and keep them humble, and use them in winning souls to Christ, is our prayer. Amen. Brethren, pray for us. Yours in Jesus, contending for the faith,

Farmersville, Cal., Sept. 8.

Dear Brethren and Trumpet Readers: Once more we greet you in the name of Jesus. Our hearts are lifted in thanksgiving and praises to God for his wonderful goodness and blessings bestowed upon his children. God has some precious saints here in the west, but oh how few, comparatively, are the gospel workers who are going forth declaring the whole counsel of God. There are some who are tied down at home, as it were, who ought to be out rescueing souls. Let us pray the Lord of the harvest to send forth more laborers.

There is great need of true and tried workers whom the Lord has chosen and sent, to come to this western coast, as there are many people who know but little about the blessings of full salvation. And this country has been cursed with false teachers, false holiness, sectarian holiness, holiness associations, etc., until people scarcely know what to believe. If any feel a call to work here in the west because of the beautiful country they desire to see, we fear they will be disappointed, for the call must be for the gospel work and the going forth sinply for the glory of God. Although the country is beautiful in many places, and much grand scenery of the wonderful handiwork of God to behold, but gospel workers should not let these things be the objects of influence in directing to fields of labor. There is a cry for help on every hand. Starving souls from the east, west, north, and south are hungering for the bread of life. Who will flee to the rescue? are there not some who feel the hand of the Lord upon you to go forth with the gospel commission? Are you ready to tarry at Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high, and go forth fully equipped for the battle?

While there are many souls to rescue in this country, yet God has a people here who are earnestly con-

Page 3

tending for the faith once delivered to the saints. They have the same devil with which to contend as do the people in the East, and the same God to deliver in time of need.

The enemy of souls does not care in what way the minds of the people are confused, whether by false doctrines, or by keeping them unsettled concerning their duties and privileges regarding any matter in which they may be involved. As long as a person is unsettled on any point of duty, where some action must be taken, and have not been able to turn the affair over fully into the hands of God, they are almost sure to be unsettled in their experience, giving the devil a good chance to whip them about at his will.

On one hand, one may be too slack concerning duties, while another may go to extremes, even to fanaticism, and both parties lose grace thereby, and even work division among those who would not otherwise be troubled, all because God was not properly counseled, and his word obeyed. Many would not get so mixed up and have the “vain religion’’ spoken of in James 1:26, if they would keep their tongues bridled by the Spirit of God.

There are communities where the people are very much unsettled concerning their work being in harmony with the will of God. At one place where we held meeting the principal industry of farm produce was raising hops Farmers had large fields of hops and many hands were required to pick them and prepare for the market. The greater portion of hops raised no doubt go to the breweries, to be used in making beer, etc; yet they are used for many other purposes. Brewers often go and engage the crop when it is planted, which at the time of harvest is delivered directly to the brewery. Such surely is not pleasing to God, as we cannot drink beer to the glory of God, neither can we spend our lives to the glory of God by giving our time in raising a crop that we know goes directly to destroy the souls of men.

Where a crop is consumed in various ways of usefulness, it may be sold at the general market and not be displeasing to the Lord, and those who help to gather the crop for market can thereby work with a good conscience toward God. There are places where we have been where the brewers and distillers engage all the corn, barley, wheat, potatoes, etc. they can, to make beer and intoxicating liquors, and while it would be wrong for a child of God to raise such crops and sell for such purposes yet they can raise such and sell at the general market, unless they know it goes from there to such places.

The word of God teaches us that whatever we do, whether we eat or drink or whatsoever we do, we should do all to the glory of God. And we believe if God’s children will walk in the light of his word there will be but little trouble about knowing his will about such matters. In this part of the country the principal crop is grapes, and the wine grapes mostly go to the winery, to be made into wine, but the children of God can find plenty of work in the grape vineyards outside of wine vineyards.

We came to Fresno, Aug. 30. and was met at the train by Bro. E. B. Elam, who took us to his home, that night, about ten miles distant. Here we found his wife who has been in a critical condition for about four months; resulting from a severe attack of fever and other afflictions, her mind became affected, insomuch that she became mute, seemingly having almost lost the entire use of her mind most of the time. Daring her sickness she met with the misfortune of being seriously burned, on her side and the bottom of the feet, from which she suffered greatly, and had not been able to bear any weight upon her feet nor lie upon that side since that time.

… ..etiring that night prayer … .. … her behalf, and next morning she arose, dressed herself, put on her shoes and walked into the dining room, ate her breakfast, and was ready at eight o’clock to go to town. And after a ride of twelve miles she laid down upon her afflicted side and took a sweet rest, and said all pain was gone and she was healed. Her mind was fully restored and the burns were rapidly healing over without pain. To God be all the praise and glory.

A few precious meetings were held there, and it being the time of grape harvest the way was not open for further meetings, we took a trip across the Sierra Nevada mountains, to Millwood, to the redwood lumber camp, and distributed some tracts among the lumbermen. That place was about two miles from the largest trees in the world, which we visited while there, an account of which will be given in the SHINNING LIGHT. We held one meeting in Visalia, while on our way here, and had two services here on Sunday. Yours in Him,

E. E. Byrum.

Stanley, W. Va.

The Stanley tabernacle meeting which lasted two weeks closed Sunday, Sept. 8. This meeting was owned and blessed of God. We believe much prejudice was broken down. There were a few souls made free from sin through Jesus’ blood. Sister Carpenter from Sistersville was delivered from her deceived condition. She renounced her twenty-seven years profession in Methodism and her snuff box, and commenced as a sinner. Also a sister living near Stanley was delivered from a deceived condition. Seven dear souls were buried with Christ in the watery grave. The great evil done to the cause at this place by one S. S. Linsey is being removed, and if the brethren will live straight at this place the cause will prosper yet. The ministers and workers present were Bro. Mast and wife from the Gospel Ark, Bro’s S. J. Ruffner and S. A Yoder, also a Bro. Roberts who feels called to the work. He rode horse back 100 miles over the W. Virginia hills to get to this meeting. The brethren have bought a school house to worship in. There was not much opposition except by some deluded Campbellites and Free Masons. But we believe their “foaming out their own shame” (Jude 13) did not hinder the truth but only advanced it. May God reward the Justice of Peace of this community for the valuable assistance he gave us in keeping some ungodly Free Masons quiet while their craft was being exposed. We can only account for their conduct of disturbing Christ’s meeting by the fact that their craft is an antichrist institution. The meeting closed by a precious ordinance meeting, in which nineteen took part. Your sanctified brother,

B. F. Roe.

__________

ABLE TO HEAL SOUL AND BODY.

_____

McKee, Ore.

Dear Trumpet Readers: I desire to glorify God by telling of his wonderful power to save and heal. In the year 1880 I fell from a scaffold, and falling upon aboard fence was seriously injured internally, also ruptured. For one year was unable to work, and had surgical operations performed, and six years ago the doctors advised me to come west, hoping the change of climate would benefit me. I took the LaGrippe, and had doctors to wait on me, but my old troubles seemed to grow worse. Was afterwards hurt by a pony and spent eight months of intense suffering, and was then taken to Portland to the hospital for five months and there the doctors gave me up to die, but God spared my life and I then made my home near McKee, Ore. and soon got so I could go about and do some work.

I was living seven miles from Woodburn, and hearing of the camp meeting at that place, on Sunday I went hoping to be healed. After hearing the Word preached I realized my soul was in a worse condition than my body. There sin-sick and afflicted in body I repented of my sins and resolved to give up the use of tobacco and the Lord pardoned all my sins and took away the appetite of tobacco. The following Tuesday I was working on some driftwood and fell, twisting my left leg with serious injury, also breaking three ribs and receiving other internal injuries.

I had suffered many terrible afflictions during my life, but this was the worst and most painful, and it seemed that my time had come to depart from earth, and I gasped a few words of instruction about my burial and notifying my friends. The man who was with me asked if he could do anything for me, and wanted to send for a doctor. I told him I did not want a doctor, but would be glad to have some of the brethren from the camp meeting, but did not think they could arrive in time to find me alive.

A man was sent to bring them, and while on his way he stopped and sent a doctor who came and bandaged my leg to a board, from hip to foot, and tried to make me as comfortable as possible, and said I would have to lie there for six weeks. Soon afterwards three of the brethren came, and after consecrating myself wholly to God they anointed me according to James 5:14 and laid on hands and prayed for me and immediately the pain began to leave and I could breathe natural. They then asked the Lord to remove the swelling from my swollen limb, and in a few minutes I could put my fingers under the bandage which before was bound tightly around it, and I felt that I ought to take the bandage off at once, but left it on until next morning, and it would have been better if it had been removed sooner. Instead of remainfng there six weeks, I did not even remain at home six days, as on the next Sunday I went to the camp meeting and walked about one mile. I have learned that it is a good thing to trust the Lord in time of need. And can say that he is able to keep both soul and body. Your brother in Christ,

V. J. Troyer.

Saved From a Life of Sin.

_____

Grand Junction, Mich.

Dear Brothers and Sisters: I believe it to be God’s will, and to his glory, that I write my testimony, of his love and wonderful goodness to me. Surely God has been patient and longsuffering with me; and my heart is full of love, and praise to him that he spared my sinful life from filling a drunkard’s grave. My life has indeed been a checkered one. I was born and passed my childhood days in the city of Boston, where I was carefully instructed and loved by one of the best of mothers. But at the age of sixteen I already had commenced to lead a life of sin, associating with those older in years than myself, and I soon was on the downward road to hell. I was a constant attendant at the theatres and the races, and already had commenced to indulge in intoxicating drink. My dear mother becoming alarmed for my future, had me leave my native city, and go to my uncle’s home at Pittsburg, Pa., thinking the change and new associations would be for my good. My uncle sent me to Iron City college and afterwards placed me in his office, he being Master Mechanic of P. F. W. & C. R. R. I advanced myself rapidly in railroad business, and was promoted from time to time by the officials of the road. My prospects looked bright and prosperous for the future, but all this time I was indulging in strong drink and sin, and was what would be called a moderate drinker. Yes, I now look back to those days and think how I used to boast that I could take a drink or let it alone. Oh yes, I thought drink would never get the best of me; but oh, how I have learned in later years by a sad and bitter experience how the devil deceived me, and was only increasing his stronghold on me year after year, until he got me wholly in his power! I got myself a nice little home and had my mother share it with me. And so my life went on until about the age of thirty, when I had advanced myself to the position of general storekeeper of the Eastern Division of the road, when, after being reprimanded several times by the officials of the road, I eventually lost my position THROUGH STRONG DRINK. My home was broken up, my dear mother was obliged to return to Boston; and my reputation being gone, I went to Chicago where I plunged into drink and sin deeper than ever before. From that time until the 14th of July of this year I have indeed lived a checkered career, sometimes on the mountain top, and then in the valley. But my mother’s teachings in childhood have followed me all through life. Oh how I thank God for such a mother! Her tears and faithful constant prayers to God for her wayward boy have not been in vain. God has heard and answered them. God and myself alone knows the untold misery I have suffered through the curse of a depraved appetite for drink. It has taken from me a once happy home, and separated me from the dearest one I have on earth. It strapped me down, hands and feet, for seven days and eight nights with delirium tremens in Wauwatusa Hospital, Milwaukee, Wis., besides several times in County Hospital, Chicago, and many times in the Washingtonian Home, — all from the curse of drink. Oh how hard I have tried to master this awful craving appetite for strong drink! Went to Dwight, Ill. and took the Keeley cure, but everything failed, until God rescued me from Satan’s power the 14th of last July. Praise his name forever and ever! Oh how I thank God for leading me that night to the Open Door Mission! Going down Custom House Place I was attracted by singing on the opposite side of the street. I stopped and listened. God’s little ones were in there and God’s Spirit told me to go in. The devil just as quickly said, Don’t do it; but go and get more drink. But praise God, I did cross over and go in at once. And after they had talked with me a while I went to the altar, and gave my heart to God and was saved from my sins, right then and there, just as I was, a poor miserable drunkard, feeling I had not a friend in all this world but my poor heart-broken mother. And after fighting the craving appetite all through the next day, God took all desire for drink and sin out of me, by the faying on of hands, and prayer I was healed immediately and have had no desire from that time up to the present. And not only the desire for drink has been taken away, but all desire for tobacco also, that I have been a slave to for thirty-one years.

I remained at the mission until the following Wednesday, when the Lord opened the way for me to come over here to Grand Junction. I praise God with all my heart, that he brought me over here to this consecrated place, among his little ones. I was truly glad to be away from the wicked city of Chicago, and among the saints of God, in this quiet place. I went with Bro. Michels with a load of children in the gospel wagon to hold meetings through the country, and God used me to his glory before I returned. On Tuesday, Aug. 6, we started with the gospel wagon for the camp meeting at Beaver Dam, Ind. Praise God for permitring me to be there among his chosen ones! It was a blessing to my soul, and I shall never forget the blessed time I had with all the dear brethren and others I met there. We arrived home Thursday morning, Aug. 29, after a ride of nearly 300 miles in three weeks and two days. It has been the best three weeks of my life. I have had all of this world’s pleasure in my early life, that one can enjoy in city life, but oh! it all amounts to nothing, compared with the peace and joy I have had the past few weeks. I have consecrated myself to God, to do with me as he will. I believe God has spared my life for some good purpose, or I would have been in my grave years ago. I desire a real Bible humility, and spiritual advancement, and to be filled with all the fullness of God. God is mighty to save, and to keep. Praise his name forever! I am trusting God now to unite my dear old mother with me. She is not long for this world, being nearly eighty years of age. I trust I may be able to send for her to come and live with me, that I may make her remaining days peaceful and happy. Amen. Your brother in Christ, saved by the blood, and kept,

W. E. Cummings.

Dear Saints of God: I am praising God for his love to me. I am saved and sanctified wholly, free from sectism. My husband and I are the only ones here that are free from sectism. I praise God that we are free indeed, free in Christ Jesus; and we do earnestly pray that in the near future some of God’s true ministers will come here and hold some meetings. The truth is needed here in this place. Your sister in Christ Jesus,

Dear Saints of God: You will remember that in the month of December last I had my request in the Trumpet for your prayers, and will say they were not in vain. I am saved and sanctified wholly. Praise the Lord for salvation that saves to the uttermost! And am also healed of an abcess in my side that I have had for over twenty years, which was very offensive at times and kept me very weak. I give God all the glory. He also healed me of a tumor of the rectum which I had for two years, which gave me much trouble and was very painful at times. Praise the Lord! I have not taken a drop of medicine for over eleven months. I am so glad I have taken Jesus for my physician, for he heals both soul and body. My husband was also wonderfully healed in the winter of a very bad spell of La- Grippe, for which he gives God all the praise. And we pray that the time will soon be when God will send some of his preachers here to preach the gospel in its purity, that a church will be built here. We ask an interest in your prayers. Dear Saints of God: I wish to testify to the glory of God. Praise the dear Lord! He forgave my sins about nine years ago, and being taught that I could not live without sinning, I went on and sinned a little every now and then, until God sent some of his true saints here to preach the truth to the people, and I have been living up to the truth ever since. God tel is me that I must live without sin, for he that sins is of the devil. Praise his dear name! He saves and keeps me every day. When any of our family are sick, we take the case to the Lord and he heals us. Our little baby had an attack of sore eyes, and also of bowel trouble, and the dear Lord has wonderfully healed him. Praise his dear name forever! Your sister saved and kept by the power of God,

FARRAH. — Bro. Edwin Farrah, husband of Sister Mary E. Farrah, departed this life September 5, 1895; aged sixty-one years, eight months, twenty-seven days. In former years he professed the religion of Jesus Christ, but for some years back he has made no profession. But some time after the good Lord saw fit to let awful affliction come upon him, he felt his need of returning to the Lord and being saved, he claimed he did, and testified to the same. He leaves a wife and five children to mourn their loss, which is his gain. May the Lord bless them and help them all to be prepared to meet him at his coming. Funeral services by the writer,

SOME OF THE THINGS WE MAY KNOW.

GOD.

Jer. 24:7 — And I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the Lord; and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.

Jno. 17:3 — And this is life eternal, that they might know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

1 Jno. 5:13-20 — These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us: and if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death. We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness. And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true; and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

HIS DOCTRINE.

Jno. 7:17 — If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

HIS VOICE.

Jno. 10:4 — And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.

HIS PEOPLE.

Jno. 13:35 — By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

2 Cor. 3:2 — Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men.

KNOWLEDGE.

1 Cor. 8:1-6 — Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth. And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know. But if any man love God, the same is known of him. As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one. For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

Eph. 3:19 — And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.

1 Cor. 1:18-31 — For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish, foolishness; but unto us which are saved, it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: but we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; but unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: but God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty: and base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: that no flesh should glory in his presence. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: that, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

1 Cor. 2 — And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect! yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: but we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory; which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

HOW TO ANSWER EVERY MAN.

Col. 4:6 — Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

WHAT WE WORSHIP.

Jno. 4:22 — Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship; for salvation is of the Jews.

GOD HEARETH NOT SINNERS.

Jno. 9:31 — Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.

WHAT IS FOR OUR GOOD.

Rom. 8:28 — And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

WHAT IS IN HEAVEN FOR US.

2 Cor. 5:1 — For we know that, if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

THAT WE KNOW GOD.

1 Jno. 2:3 — And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

WE SHALL BE LIKE HIM (JESUS).

1 Jno. 3:2 — Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

WE HAVE PASSED FROM DEATH UNTO LIFE.

1 Jno. 3:14 — We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

WE ARE OF THE TRUTH.

1 Jno. 3:19 — And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.

HE ABIDETH IN US.

1 Jno. 3:24 — And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

THE spirit of truth and the spirit of ERROR.

1 Jno. 4:1—6 — Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: and every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

WE DWELL IN HIM.

1 Jno. 4:13 — Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

WE LOVE GOD’S‘CHILDREN.

1 Jno. 5:1, 2 — Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that begotten of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

WE HAVE OUR PETITIONS.

1 Jno. 5:15 — And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

WHO IS BORN OF GOD.

1 Jno. 4:7 — Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

5:18 — We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth him, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

2:20 — But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

THAT CHRIST IS COME.

1 Jno. 5:20 — And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true; and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

OUR LABOR IS NOT IN VAIN.

1 Cor. 15:58 — Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

BY WHAT WE WERE REDEEMED.

1 Pet. 1:18, 19 — Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers: but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb, without blemish and without spot.

WHO TAKES AWAY OUR SINS.

1 Jno. 3:5 — And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.

WHAT CONSTITUTES A MURDERER.

1 Jno. 3:15 — Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

SIGNIFICATION OF BAPTISM.

Rom. 6:3 — Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

WE ARE THE TEMPLE OF GOD.

1 Cor. 3:16 — Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

CHRIST IS IN US.

2 Cor. 13:5 — Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you except ye be reprobates?

Jno. 14:20 — At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

WHAT IS ENMITY WITH GOD.

Jas. 4:4 — Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

THE NEW NAME.

Rev. 2:17 — He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

THE DEATH OF THE OLD MAN.

Rom. 6:6 — Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

THE TIME TO WAKE OUT OF SLEEP.

Rom. 13:11 — And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

THE TERROR OF THE LORD.

2 Cor. 5:11 — Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

NOT JUSTIFIED BY THE LAW.

Gal. 2:16 — Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith, of Christ, and not by works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

PAUL WAS SET FOR THE DEFENCE OF THE GOSPEL.

Phil. 1:17 — But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.

WHAT QUESTIONS TO AVOID.

2 Tim. 2:16-18 — But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenues and Philetus; who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. 23-26 — But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes. And the servant of the Lord must not strive: but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient; in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; and that they might recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

Tit. 3:9-11 — But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. A man that is a heretic, after the first and second admonition, reject; knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.

WHERE WE HAVE AN ENDURING SUBSTANCE.

Heb. 10:34 — For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.

THE TRYING OF OUR FAITH WORKETH PATIENCE.

Jas. 1:3 — Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

THE AUTHOR OF PROPHECY.

2 Pet. 1:20, 21 — Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

SCOFFERS IN THE LAST DAYS.

2 Pet. 3:3, 4 — Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying. Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

THE TREE BY HIS FRUIT.

Mat. 12:30 — He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.

NO MAN AFTER THE FLESH.

2 Cor. 5: 16 — Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.

TESTIMONIES.

“Thy Testimonies are Wonderful.” – Psa. 119:129.

__________

Gridley, Cal.

Dear Trumpet Readers: I thought I would like to tell to you all what God has done for me. I had the catarrh, heart, stomach and kidney affections. Bro. E. E. Byrum and the dear brother that is with him came to Gridley where I was stopping. They prayed for me and anointed my head with oil and laid on hands; and I feel that God has healed me. Praise God for his great healing power and mercies toward his children! My head feels sore yet, but I know God is true. Yes, healed soul and body. Your brother in Christ,

John Keagy.

Lima, O,

Dear Trumpet Readers: I realize that I am wonderfully kept in this place. I can testify to the healing of our little babe who was sick with a fever. The second morning she was sick I felt in my heart that the Lord was going to heal her. I sent for the elder, had her anointed and she was instantly healed. My faith was so increased I wanted to be anointed for healing, so on the following Sabbath was anointed in the name of the Lord according to his Word, and was instantly healed. To God be all the glory. Pray for me that God may keep me in the humility of the Savior, where he can lead and guide me into all truth. Your humble sister in Christ,

Edith Atkinson.
