Our Loved Ones in Heaven.

_____

Come, all ye saints, to Pisgah’s mountain.
Come view your home beyond the tide,
Hear now the voices of your loved ones,
What they sing on the other side.
Some are singing of bright crowns of glory,
Some of dear ones who stand near the shore.
For the fond heart must ever be clinging
To the faithful we love evermore.

Cho. — O the prospect it is so transporting,
And no danger I fear from the tide;
I shall go to the home of the Christian,
I shall stand robed in white by their side.

There endless springs of life are flowing,
There are the fields of living green,
Mansions of beauty are provided,
And the King of the saints is seen.
Soon my conflict and toil will be ended.
I shall join those who’ve pass’d on before,
For my loved ones, O how I do miss them!
I must press on and meet them once more.

Faith now beholds the flowing river
Coming from underneath the throne;
There, there the Savior reigns forever,
And He welcomes his children home.
Would you sit by the hanks of the river
With the friends you have loved by your side?
Would you join in the songs of the angels,
Then be ready to follow your Guide.

HEALING OF THE BEAST.

__________

A Most remarkable movement in Bay City.

__________

Catholic and Protestant Priests join together.

__________

All claim to be members of the same Mystical Body.

_____

The following is sent us by Bro. D. W. Zacharias, of Banister, Mich. Taken from the Bay City Evening News, Jan, 16, 1895.

Bay City, Mich., Jan. 16. — The Bay City ministers have organized a movement that will be far reaching in its effects.

The avowed objects of this association are to promote “Christian unity” and arouse a feeling that all Christian churches are engaged in one great object. Prejudice and intolerance are especially denounced and are to be opposed by the association.

The matter has been brewing since Thanksgiving day, when Rev. C. T. Patchell preached a strong sermon on the subject. Monday a meeting was held at the rectory of St. James’ Catholic church, at which nearly all of the Catholic priests and a number of the leading protestant ministers were present. Christian unity was the object of the gathering, but church unity was not thought of. After thorough discussion the following was adopted as embodying the sentiment of those present:

“The aim of this meeting is to instill into every Christian heart the necessity of mutual love and respect among the members of the mystical body of Christ. It is unnatural that members of the same body should tear one another to pieces. They should protect and assist each other.

“The means to attain this end are of two kinds; (a) fraturnal meetings of the ministers of the different churches, until a view to becoming better acquainted, and for devising means whereby to carry on our mutual work: (b) public lectures on ‘Christian unity,’ ‘Christian tolerance,’ ‘Christian charity,’ and kindred subjects, said lectures to be delivered alternately by priest and minister.

“It must be well understood that the presence of a minister or a priest at one of our meetings does not in the least affect his distinctive religious principles. Each remains what he is, prejudice and its consequences excepted.”

The memorial is signed by the following pastors.

Here follows the names of five Catholic priests and eight (Un) Protestant priests, representing eight daughters of the corrupt old mother, as follows: Presbyterian, Reform, Episcopal, Baptist, German Reform, M. E., Congregational, and German Methodist.

So is the word of God being fulfilled. The wound that Mother Rome received by the reformation is being healed by Protestantism becoming corrupt enough to reassociate, and confederate with this old mother, against which they once protested. So Protestantism, in reality, has ceased to protest; and again she takes by the hand that wicked power that was made drunk with the blood of the saints. This is also Gog and Magog gathering together, and Satan’s design is a general war against the beloved city, and the camp of the saints. Also in the centralization of those factions of fallen Babylon, into one great confederation, which is fast being accomplished, will be fulfilled the setting up of the image of the beast. This image has already began its development in the general move of all kinds of religious associations, which are the devil’s warp by which he is fast weaving the sects all together. The general alienation that has existed between the Protestant sects and Romanism, seemed to render the idea of their confederation together, a thing not to be imagined, and though such were the impressions made on our mind by the light of prophecy, we scarcely dared venture an intimation of the same. But we are in an age of wonders. Mighty revolution of thought and sentiment rapidly transpire before our eyes. And to day, things spring forth that yesterday would have been thought impossible. Since this union of mother and daughters in Bay City has taken place, there need no longer a single doubt remain in our minds that the armies of Gog and Magog that are being gathered by the three unclean spirits like frogs, will be composed of both Catholics and Protestants. And in the light of God’s word we may safely conclude that this great union image of the sects will demand of all men to confess that Rome is the true church. For, mark you, the second beast “caused the earth, and them that dwell therein, to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.” Rev. 13:12. And the image that is being formulated by confederation, is “an image to the beast which had the wound by a sword, and did live.” That is, the consolidation of all sects will be to the honor of, and give power and authority to the beast that was wounded, thus the deadly wound will be healed.

But whatever may be the movements and stratagems of the devil and all his armies, let it not be forgotten that “the saints of the Most High God shall take the kingdom,” and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heavens. Therefore we have nothing to fear but God, and in him will we trust; and he will keep us alive in famine, and cover us in battle, and shall overthrow and get glory out of all the rage of Satan in this little while in which he has come down having great wrath. Amen.

FORE-ORDINATION.

_____

In writing on this subject, it has pleased the Father to give me a few more thoughts, to his glory and praise. As there are some writings of Paul, hard to be understood, which some wrest to their own destruction, I believe this is one of them in which many people justify themselves in resting in their unsaved condition, saying that God has fitted some vessels to destruction, and who can reply against God?

Jesus prayed, “I thank thee, Father, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in thy sight.” The apostle Paul understood this, when speaking of the mystery of Christ. “Which in other ages, was not made known unto the sons of men as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets, by the Spirit.” Eph. 3:5. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. * * * He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life, and he that believeth not the the Son, shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him.” Jno. 3:16, 36. That the wrath of God abideth upon all ungodliness and unbelief, is already settled. To escape that wrath, we must believe in the Son of God. His judgments are just, and his law’s are equal. He that believeth on him is not condemned. He that believeth not, is condemned already. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Rom. 8:28. What then was his purpose? “In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins, who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature. * * * And he is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the first-born from the dead; that in all things he might have the pre-eminence.” Col. 1:14, 15, 18. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, which is holiness. In Matt. 7, we find those who are called according to his purpose. He will profess unto them, “I never knew you; depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” The workers of iniquity are the vessels fitted to destruction; for except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. Rom. 10:1. But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness; because they sought it not by faith, but by the works of the law; for they stumbled at that stumbling stone, Rom. 9. which is Christ. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth (as did Israel), but of God that sheweth mercy, and that mercy is in the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; for by grace are ye saved, through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.

For he will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness, because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth. Rom. 9:28. Who can not see how long the Lord stretched forth his hand unto a disobedient and gainsaying people? But now he commandeth all men to repent, and believe the gospel. The fulness of the Gentiles has come, and they are rejecting the Holy Spirit as the Jews rejected Christ and his righteousness by faith. For I bear them record, that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they go about under the head of divers denominations teaching for doctrines, theories, notions, and ideas of man. For many walk of whom I have told you often, and now tell you, even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ. Phil.3:18. “But there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you, * * * let him be accursed. For do I now persuade men or God? or do I seek to please men? For if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. Gal. 1:7-10. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness. Rom. 1:18.

In all these scriptures no allowance is given for men holding the truth in unrighteousness, for they reject the source by which we have the promise of the Father to guide in the way of all truth. “Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost. As your fathers did’, so do ye.” Acts 7:51. He is a Jew which is one inwardly, and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter, whose praise is not of men, but of God. Rom. 2:29. “For how can ye believe who receive honor one of another, and seek not the honor that cometh from God only? I beseech you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.” Get a Bible experience of salvation, and follow Jesus in the way cast up for the ransomed. Isa. 35:8- 10. Praise the Lord! they that do the will of the Father shall know of the doctrine. Amen. Yours in Jesus saved and sanctified, called according to his purpose,

Mary Heldenbrand.

__________

BE NOT DECEIVED.

_____

NOW there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them. And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the Lord and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. Job. 1:6, 7.

The same Satan that tried Job is still walking up and down the earth, seeking whom he may devour, and still occasionally presents himself among the children of God. Oh, may God’s children everywhere be able to discern and detect all his evil works. He not only comes in open bold attacks, but in the slyest, most deceivable forms as an angel of light. When we are serving Satan, and he thinks he has our souls secure, he doesn’t care to trouble us. But when we become awakened to our lost condition, leave the ranks of Satan, and are translated into the kingdom of God, Satan becomes so enraged that he not only tries his utmost, but marshals, if need be, all the host of hell to overthrow that soul, and when he finds he cannot accomplish his end by open attacks, he then comes as an angel of light. It is then we need implore God for real spiritual discernment.

One of the devil’s most successful schemes to ensnare souls in these last days is by counterfeiting. And we also find, the brighter and nearer the counterfeit is to the real genuine, the more deceiving and soul-damning it proves. The devil little cares whether he keeps us from measuring quite up to the line of salvation, or whether he pushes us over the line; for he knows either would cause us to fall short of the real standard. As many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God, Rom. 8:4, and the Spirit and the Word agree. Also let us try the spirits. How? By the Word. This is what many dear souls have failed to do, but by being led by the Spirit as they believed, or by impressions, without comparing them by the Word, have been led little by little without the knowledge of their condition, and at last find themselves submerged in fanaticism and in the real power of the enemy. The devil has great power in these days, and is doing his utmost because he knows his time is short, and if possible would deceive the very elect. Many times God’s children are made to shout the high praises of God, and are wonderfully blessed by the outpouring of his Holy Spirit, and right here is where Satan has another hold of passing counterfeit. In Isa. 12:6, we read, “Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.” Shouting is all right and in God’s order, but let us examine ourselves and see if we are an inhabitant of Zion, and that it is the real Spirit of God that prompts us, and not the spirit of enthusiasm.

Now, another line which Satan works on. When we are saved, God places us in the body as it has pleased himself; now perhaps it has pleased God to place us in a very humble position, as one of the least of the members, where we should be perfectly contented. Now it often becomes Satan’s business to get us out of line with God by bringing in a spirit of emulation, causing us to think ourselves some great one, thinking we are called to preach, or claim the healing, or other gifts, which God has never imparted to us, causing shipwreck of the whole, and bringing reproach on the cause of Christ. Such, we say, are pushed over the line of salvation. Satan also hinders many honest souls who are really called into the work. He doesn’t seem at all particular in what way he deceives, so his end is accomplished, either to capture, or drive us from the ground. But his time is short, and God has a people who are not wholly ignorant of his devices.

May God’s pure ones everywhere, lift high the standard of salvation, and cry out against everything that is evil. Let the camp be clean, that God may work and be glorified in his saints. Lucy M. Lewis.

Dear Brothers and Sisters: Praise the Lord! To night I am resting sweetly in peace with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. On Jan. 5, God spoke peace to my soul. He brought me from fallen Babylon. I had been trying to live what I thought was a Christian life in the G. B. sect, for five or six years, but thanks be to God for salvation. The two brethren, George Keeling and D. B. Moore, closed a meeting here last week, and are now in other parts laboring for souls. May the Lord bless them. I do praise God for sending them here. Your saved brother,

Dearly Beloved Brothers and Sisters: I praise God this morning for salvation. I am sweetly saved through the blood of Christ, and enjoy salvation. I am both justified and sanctified. Praise God forever for his goodness and mercy! Two weeks ago last Sunday I consecrated for sanctification. I put my all on the altar Christ Jesus, and have since that enjoyed peace, joy, and love in such a manner as I never enjoyed it before. We are living in the neighborhood of the No. 4 school house, eight miles north-east of Fairport. If any of the ministers come through this way, we would be glad to have you stop and see us. There is here a church of God of some twenty-two, standing out for God on the true Bible line, and others that are under conviction. Praise God for salvation that overcomes the world! My soul is satisfied as never before. I never want to go back into the world again. Oh how near God does draw his people together! Truly they are all one. May God ever bless his true children. This is my first testimony, and I want the world to know I am not ashamed of Jesus. Task an interest in your yrayers. Your brother saved in Christ,

Jas. M. Batchelor.

A CORRECTION.

Rockford, O., Feb. 11, 1895.

Dear Saints: In an Article in the Trumpet of Dec. 20, 1894, entitled, SATAN AND DEVILS, I made use of the following language, which I feel God would have me correct:

“Have you had children measured or placed under any charm? then remember that Satan has that child bound.”

Further on I said,

“We cannot say, at the present, that all those who have been so healed are actually possessed with devils, but one thing is sure, they are all bound.”

Since writing the above, I have been searching the Word very carefully, and I am convinced that the above statements cannot be proven to be true by the Word, so I hereby renounce the same, and trust that no one has been misled by same. By reading Eze. 18:1-20, and Jer. 31:30, we find that the days are past when the eating of sour grapes by the parents sets the children’s teeth on edge, etc. While some children may be possessed with devils from a very early age, or perhaps from birth, yet when a child is born into the world a free moral agent, that is, an intelligent or responsible person, certainly no one can take away that inheritance. True, some are born idiots or lunatics, or feeble minded, but such are not included in the above, and are not responsible persons. See the case of Mark 9:17-25. The responsible person must look to it that he is not again possessed after being delivered. Mat. 12:43-45. But in this case Christ commanded the evil spirit to enter no more into him. Mark 9:25.

Further on in the article the children of Willshire, O, were mentioned. Some may take the statement to refer to children of saints only, but such is a mistake. The error above led into a mistake here also, by a strange coincidence. Some of those thus measured were found to be possessed, and one mentioned as being bound and often consecrating and getting nothing. I am satisfied that the position taken here also cannot be proven by the Word, and I also renounce that, and ask pardon of those who have been effected by it. Those who were holding to enchantments were backsliders as I now fine Others had renounced such works before under the ministry of Sister Stetler, to whom I am indebted for her much patience with me in this matter. Allow me to warn all against circumstantial evidence only. Asking the pardon of all for the error, I remain, as I truly believe, your saved brother,

F. Husted.

__________

LIGHT.

_____

DO we realize as time onward speeds, that we are traveling homeward, bound for the bright eternal home, or else are making steps on the downward hill of life? Pilgrims, as we are traveling homeward, can we say that we are wholly free from sin? Can we feel and know that we are walking in that narrow path that knows no sin; that leads to that beautiful rest on heaven’s happy shore? Do we feel that we are flashing light around us, that we are bright and shining witnesses for Jesus? for him in whom there was no guile found ? the one that teaches us to walk in his footsteps? the one that says, Be ye holy as I am holy?

Jesus also teaches his children that they are the light of the world. A city that is set upon a hill cannot be hid. Truly when the light of Jesus is burning brightly in our hearts, we are a light unto the world, as salvation is something that cannot be hid. Truly when we are called to mingle with those that have not the light of the gospel burning within their souls, if we have the beautiful light of God within, it shines forth and gives light unto all that are in the house. And those that have such darkened minds cannot help but see that we have something within that they can hardly comprehend the meaning thereof. Mat. 5:16 says, Let your light so shine before men that they? may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Then we are not to try to keep our salvation hid, or glory in anything we have done, only glory in the cross of Christ, showing forth that we are merely, in self, nothing, but giving God the glory that we are what we are. When we are walking in the light of Jesus, our conversation will also redound to the glory of God, that whereas others may speak evil against us, as evildoers, they may, by our good works and holy conversation, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

Truly, dear ones, when we have Jesus within, when we are wholly consecrated, ourselves and earthly store, how careful we should be to know that in every respect we are in subjection unto our heavenly Father; and when we are dead unto sin, and claim we are out of Babylon, and Babylon out of us, we should have our children that are under our control, under subjection to our will, as consistent unto the Lord. Therefore is it right in the sight of God for us to get our children ready Sabbath morning and allow to attend the sect Sabbath school in a place where the evening light has been rejected, while we are preaching against Babylon, and still let our children go, and partake of their evil deeds? Can we let our children partake of that which we could not conscientiously partake of in the sight of God? So many say, “I would rather my children would be there than running the streets, or playing and making a great noise on the Sabbath day.” Dear ones, the word of God teaches us that we should bring up our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Are we bringing up our children thus when we have the light of the gospel, and when we cry against Babylon, against sin in all its ways, and then let our little children that are under our control partake of that we know to be wrong in the sight of God, and we, their parents could not even feel justified ingoing there? Let us examine our hearts and see if we have died the death unto sin, and died unto all but Jesus and his will forevermore? Do not understand me that we should keep our children home on the Sabbath and allow them to run the streets, or to remain at home hollowing and making a great noise. No, verily, this also would be a sin in the sight of God. Let us pray mightily unto God to help us bring up our children as is pleasing unto him, and certainly he will not direct us contrary to his Word; he will not tell us to let our children partake of the evil of this world, and we ourselves shun it. Jesus says, I am the light of the world, he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. May God help us to walk in the light, and also to see that our little ones are walking in the path of light instead of the darkened path. We certainly cannot hold up Jesus to this world, and feel that we are entirely dead to Babylon, and warn others to come out of her, and allow our children to go there Sunday after Sunday and partake of her evil deeds.

How we should appreciate this glorious light that has brought us out of darkness into his marvelous light, and set our captive souls at liberty. Gal. 5:1 says, Stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. God help his dear children to stand fast upon God’s promises, not to be deceived by the enemy, and drawn away into sin. Let us fight the good fight of faith, and lay hold of eternal life, and walk in the beautiful light of God Amen.

A WARNING AGAINST TOBACCO AND INTOXICANTS.

_____

GOD helping I will write a word of warning in regard to the use of tobacco and intoxicants, two great vices which are annually hastening their myriads of blinded souls down to ruin, misery and eternal torment. Perhaps it may be read by some poor sinful soul ignorant of its impending fate, who may glean a ray of hope that will kindle into a flame and become a burning firebrand for God; if so, I will feel myself amply repaid.

Now, brother, if you use either of the articles mentioned above, I want to reason with you. You say there is no harm in these things. Oh man, whosoever thou art, let me ask you where you find any virtue, where you find any good, or what good motive you can supply to justify yourself in the use of such things. Don’t you know if you are a professing child of God, that every cent we spend to gratify a sinful craving appetite, of that we rob God? Don’t you know that every cent entrusted to our care belongs to God, and that we as his stewards are required to make a just and proper use of it? Haggai 2:8 — The silver is mine and the gold is mine, saith the Lord of hosts. Isa. 55:2. — Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which satisfieth not?

We often hear men and women try to wrest God’s holy word to prove there is no sin in the use of these nefarious emissaries of Satan, hence to their own destruction. Brethren, turn to Matt. 4:6, “If thou be the son of God cast thyself down, for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee, and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.” Now, brethren, this old destroyer of the human soul is just as active and treacherous now as then. If he used the holy Scriptures to tempt the Son of God, he is vile enough to use them to tempt you. Suppose he should appear before you with the poisonous herb, or the sparkling glass, and say unto you, Cast thyself down, for it is written, Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth the man, but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. What would your answer be? May God give you courage to say,

Get thee hence. Satan, for it is written. Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 2 Pet. 2:10. For of whom a man is overcome of the same is he brought in bondage. And to those who are under bondage to these baneful habits, I would say there is balm in Gilead, there is One who ever has the hand of mercy and love extended to wash thee, to cleanse and present thee spotless at the throne of glory. Sinner, turn, why will ye die?

It is no unfrequent sight to see aged men claim to be guided by the Holy Spirit stand up directly before or after public worship and pass their nauseous poison from one to the other, or the self-conceited young man putting his cigar, and vainly trying to impress those about him of his importance, in the presence of little children. Now, children, I have no doubt you think this looks very manly, but it doesn’t, and don’t you doit. There is no manliness, but on the contrary, degradation, misery, and final destruction of both soul and body. Just think of the dirty puddles, or the sickening odor which you are sometimes compelled to inhale.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue, if there be any praise, think on these things. Phil. 4:8. For even hereunto were ye called, became Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example that ye should follow in his steps. Brethren, can you once imagine his steps leading us to the tobacco dealers, or to the rum shops? Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. 2 Cor. 7:1.

George Bingham.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

_____

Bliss, Mich., Feb. 13, 1895.

Dear Ones in Christ Jesus: When we wrote our last news we had just returned to Bliss. We held a week’s meeting here with the church at Bliss, with glorious victory on the Lord’s side, and while the mercury ran from 20 to 43 degrees below zero, the fire was burning in our souls, and we did not stop for cold weather. The Lord was with us in power, and we had a glorious feast. Some of the dear ones consecrated, and received sanctification and settling down in Jesus. Sunday night we had a glorious pentecost; eleven at the altar, and nearly all received what they sought. We expect to go from here to Cross Village, to begin a meeting in the name of the Lord. Pray for our success in His work. Yours in Jesus, saved by his blood and kept by his power,

Allie R. Fisher and Della Gardner.

_____

Albion, Mich., Feb. 7, 1895.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ: We are still in the one body and kept by the mighty power of our dear Savior, ready to be revealed in the last day. We left Tionesta, Pa. about the 20th of last June, came to Albion, Mich, feeling the Lord had a work here for us to do. We stopped four miles north-east of Albion for the winter. Commenced meeting at the Island school house, in the name of Jesus. No consecrations, but a good seed-sowing time. We commenced meeting on Sunday evening, in the name of the Lord, in the Devrex school house. Father gave us victory over the enemy. Glory be to his name! People say, We never heard it in this way before. Pray for us, that we may have much wisdom from on high. We are young in the work, and need much help. Your brother and sister,

J, W. and L. M. Davis.

Dear Brethren: May God’s richest blessing rest upon you all. I am still praising God for salvation full and complete. Glory be to God!

Page 3

We are holding forth the word of life in this city, in the M. E. meeting house. The Lord sent Bro. W. A. Haynes to assist us. We are having day meetings at a private house, and souls are being saved and sanctified nearly every day. Praise his name! Next week, the Lord willing, I will go to Grand Island, Neb. and commence the battle, in the name of Jesus, trusting the Lord to supply all my necessary needs. I expect to furnish my own room, and board myself, as there is only one dear soul there, and she is working out by the week. It is a new place; the pure gospel has never been preached there. I ask all the dear saints to pray for me and the work at that place, and if any one feels an interest in perishing souls, and wishes to help spread the truth, and feels led to send us some papers and tracts, we would gladly receive them, and use them to the glory of God. Your brother saved and all upon the altar for souls. Pray for me. Direct me at Grand Island, Neb.

Dear Saints: May the dear Lord bless you all. It has been a good while since my lost report, but I can say that this morning still finds me sweetly saved in Jesus and abounding in his precious love. Glory to his holy name! I have been engaged in the Master’s work at different places. On Jan. 15, went over to Nishnabotna, Mo., and commenced meeting in the chapel Jan. 16. The dear Lord blessed in the preaching of his Word, and gave us joyful meetings. A few souls were saved, others received the fulness of God, and were more settled down in God. May God bless his dear ones at that place. There was much opposition, but Jesus fought the battle for us, and victory was on the Lord’s side. Bro. M. Stover, Jr. was with us a few days at this meeting. Closed meeting Sunday night, Feb. 10, with six at the altar and victory in our souls over all the powers of darkness. Came home last night. The Lord willing, I will soon be out in the battle again. I praise God for a real sinking down in him. Blessed be the name of Jesus! Pray for me, that Jesus keep me humble, low down at his feet where he can use me to his glory. Your brother, saved and sanctified wholly, all on the gospel altar,

Geo. Vielguth.

Grand Junction, Mich., Feb. 14, 95.

Dear Saints of God: My soul doth magnify the name of the Lord, who has redeemed me from all sin. We have recently been laboring for the Master, in company with Sisters Myers, Wressell, and our own companion, in the vicinity of Grand Ledge, Eaton Co., Mich. The place was comparatively new, but little of the pure gospel having been preached there; but blessed be God, we found quite a number who accepted the truth, and several were willing to walk in it. Seven or eight were also gloriously healed of their afflictions by the mighty power of God. Praise his name! The devil was wonderfully stirred in the Adventists, M. E’s, and Free Methodists, but God gave us complete victory. The M. E. class-leader was captured, and stepped out of the old trap and declared his absolute freedom in Christ. A nice little flock was raised up there, and there was precious seed sown in that we believe will yet bring forth fruit for the Master. If any of God’s true ministers should be passing through that way, the little ones will be glad to give you a warm welcome. You can inquire or write to Bro’s Guy E. Foote or Eugene Edwards. Also if in the vicinity of Hoytville, Mich., write to Bro. Frank Green. God will bless the ones who will call in this vicinity and feed the little flock, and possibly do some reaping from the seed already sown, as the entire community has been stirred to search the Scriptures to ‘‘see if these things be so.” Pray for us, dear ones, as we are wholly given up to labor for perishing souls.

A. Radebaugh.

Butler, Pa., Feb. 12, 1895,

Dear Saints of God: May heaven’s richest blessings abide with you forever. We are glad to report, Jesus saves and sanctifies our souls, and is supplying all our needs, both spiritual and temporal, for which we give him all the glory. A short time before leaving Grand Junction a letter and telegram was received stating the illness of my sister’s husband in Butler, Pa., and after earnestly inquiring the will of the Lord, he gave a direct leading to go to the suffering one. His dear will was obeyed, and we are glad to report, God has wonderfully healed his body. Praise his dear name! We have recently closed a series of meetings here, during which the mighty God of heaven broke down great walls of prejudice, sent out large congregations, saved some holiness opposers, and raised up a dear little church in this place. The battle waxed fierce, and members of different isms raised up in spiritual arms, especially some members of Free Methodism. But God says, “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.” Isa. 54:17. Also, “For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall.” Psa. 18:29. Truly, it is precious to know that Jesus never leaves nor forsakes his little ones, but is with us always, even unto the end. Praise his holy name!

“His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support us in the whelming flood;
When all around our souls gives way,
He then is all our hope and stay.”

Your sisters in Jesus,

Birdie E. Fink and Della Fry.

_____

Reynolds, Neb., Feb. 16, 1895.

Dear Saints: We can praise God for a perfect and complete salvation. While Satan is foaming and raging, our Jesus is reigning within. All glory to his name! We have been sending forth the word of God wherever he has opened a door for us. Have been holding meetings on each Lord’s day at Mahaska, and God has blessed our labor. Some who were once saved in the evening light, and had become ensnared by Satan have again found deliverance. Others are feeling their need. Some who never have been saved are under conviction. If any one feels led of the Lord to hold a meeting at that place, now is a good time, for truly the harvest is ripe, and you will find a welcome there. Address Bro. Levi Lakey, Mahaska, Kan. But none but those who are full of the Holy Ghost and the fire need go. Some one who has precious souls at heart, for there are many persecutors and enemies to the truth there. God’s cause has been shamefully treated there, both by sectarians and some who professed to be in the evening light, and it has been looked upon as a burned-over district, yet we are aware that God has a people there, though they may be but few. We know not how many, but one soul is very precious. Nothing but the love and patience of Jesus will ever build up the work in that place.

We had a precious season during the week of fasting and prayer with the saints near Thompson, Neb. God confirmed his word by signs following. There were ten cases of healing during that week. God thereby proving he was in our midst. Also some who were backslidden got down before God to be reinstated. Some who had never had an experience, but simply professed and held to the saints, saw their condition, made confession, and consecrated to God. We pray God to keep them in the furnace until they come out as pure gold. The church was built up and strengthened, for which we give God all the glory. While God saw fit to feed them upon some of the meat of the Word, and they realized their lack, we are rejoiced to know that some are measuring up, and are getting more of a complete faith and trust in God.

Dearly beloved, we noticed in the Trumpet of Feb. 7, a small article written, and the question was asked, which headed the piece, “The week of prayer, is it over?” How can you answer this question? While that week is past and gone, did the prayer go with it? or are we making every week a week of prayer? Now if none of the brethren say we shall spend a certain length of time in prayer, yet God does. He says, Pray without ceasing. 1 Thess. 5:17. Pray always. Eph. 6:18. Continuing instant in prayer. Rom. 12:12. Those and many scriptures plainly teach us that each week should be one of prayer and true devotion to God. If it is, our profiting will appear to all; if it is not, our nakedness will appear to all. Dear ones, let us pray much, keep on the whole armor, then God will be glorified by us living in the world. And pray much for us that we may be kept low down at Jesus’ feet.

I expect to go to Smith Center, Kan. tomorrow, the Lord willing, to assist Bro. Masters in a meeting. Anyone desiring my labors in the gospel work in western Kansas or Nebraska can write me at that place. Your brother and sister all given up to Jesus,

T. A. and Ella Phillips.

Dear Trumpet Readers: I, for the first, time will write my testimony, trusting it will be to the honor and glory of God. I will willingly serve the Lord, and do his will as he leads me, walk in all the light he gives me. Praise his dear name! I had been living in the M. E. sect for fourteen years, and did not know what salvation was, until I heard the evening light preached about three months ago. Now I am standing on the promises of God, fully consecrated, and moving up to his Word, though I feel very little and weak. I love to hear from God’s children through the Trumpet. I do not get to see any of them, as I am all alone in this county. I think if some of God’s true ministers could come here, much good might be done. Pray for my unsaved husband. Your sister in the one body,

Dear Trumpet Family: May the Lord bless you all. To day I do praise the Lord for salvation that saves to the uttermost. About two years ago the Lord called after my soul and found me lost in sin, and in almost all kinds of filthy habits, and doing almost everything that I ought not to do. And when he showed me my condition I fell down and began to beg for mercy, but did not know what to do till the Lord sent Brother Stover to Hollenberg, Kan., and there the Lord showed me what I must do. Bless his name! And then I felt the hand of God upon me to go work in his vineyard, but did not go until he showed me that I must obey, and so I did, and praise his name for making me willing. Truly, the harvest is great and laborers are few. Pray for me and the work here. Yours in Jesus,

Dear Trumpet Readers: I am saved and trusting in Jesus. Praise his holy name! I received justification, and I thought I was saved to the uttermost. I was so happy, praise the Lord! But my companion kept telling me there was more for me, but I thought it could not be, for God gave me such blessings; it did not seem as if I could hold any larger ones. But glory to God, there came a time when I called on God to make me fully whole. I had to come or die. I was stricken down with the inflammatory rheumatism, so bad I could not raise, nor use a muscle. I found it was all for the glory of God. I took Christ for my physician, and he made me whole, soul and body. Praise his holy name! We never have belonged to any sect. We intend to belong to Christ and Christ alone. We have no pure gospel preached here now. We love to read the Trumpet. I feel the need of all the saints’ prayers. I remain your sanctified sister,

Mrs. I. L. Smith.

Hoppertown, Mich.

Dear Saints: It is with much joy and praises to God that I can testify to the salvation of my soul. Jesus gives me an experience, by which I know without a doubt that I am a child of God. Praise his dear name forever! The Lord has been proving me in various ways. I have made a deeper covenant with God than ever before. How the devil did try to overthrow me, but Jesus said his grace was sufficient. When I rebuked the devil on one point he would try some other, and at last I said, Lord, I am going to trust you whether I go to heaven or not, and right there I learned that the trying of my faith was precious in the sight of the Lord, and that it was all necessary that I might learn the lesson that the Lord wanted to teach me. 1 Pet. 1:6:7. I can truly say that all things have worked together for my good, and I feel that it is forever settled between me and God, and I expect to trust him until the end, though I expect the trying will go right on, as in Jas. 1:3, 4, and Rom. 5:3-5. Trying of our faith is the one thing needful for our growth in the grace of God. Pray for me, that I may know and do the whole will of God. Your saved sister in the one faith and love of the saints,

Julia Lawver.

REPENTANCE.

(Repentance: — to have another mind; to turn.)

GOD’S COMMAND. PREACHED BY JOHN.

Mat. 3:2 — And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

PREACHED BY CHRIST.

Mark 1:14, 15 — Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gopsel of the kingdom of God, and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

PREACHED BY THE APOSTLES.

Mark 6:12 — And they went out, and preached that men should repent.

Acts 2:38 — Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

17:30, 31 — And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

20:21 — Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

HOW TO REPENT.

Isa. 55:7 — Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

2 Cor. 7:10 — For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

God’s will that all should repent.

2 Pet. 3:9 — The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Rom. 2:4 — Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

CHRIST’S MISSION TO SINNERS.

Luke 5:27-32 — And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me. And he left all, rose up, and followed him. And Levi made him a great feast in his own house: and there was a great company of publicans and others that sat down with them. But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners? And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

15:1-10 — Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him. And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.

And he spake this parable unto them, saying, What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbors, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? and when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbors together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost. Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

24:46, 47 — And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the the third day: and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

NECESSITY OF REPENTANCE.

Luke 13:1—5 — There were present at that season some that told him of the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galileans were sinners above all Galileans, because they suffered such things? I tell you, Nay: but except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower of Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, Nay: but except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

FRUITS WORTHY OF REPENTANCE.

Luke 3:7-14 — Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. And now also the axe is aid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. And the people asked him, saying. What shall we do then? He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise. Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do? And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you. And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying. And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.

Acts 26:20 — But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.

CONFESSION.

1 Jno. 1:9 — If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

RESTITUTION.

Luke 19:8 — And Zaccheus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him four-fold.

FORGIVENESS.

Mat. 18:23-35 — Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. The servant therefore fell down and worshiped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. Then the Lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellow servants, which owed him a hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest. And his fellow servant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. So when his fellow servants saw what was done, they were very sorry and came and told unto their lord all that was done. Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt because thou desiredest me: shouldst not thou also have had compassion on thy fellow servant, even as I had pity on thee? And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

Without these accompanying fruits, there is no repentance.

SOME EXCUSES ANSWERED BY THE BIBLE.

_____

I AM NOT VERY BAD. GOD IS JUST. WILL TAKE MY CHANCES.

John 6:29 — Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

1 Cor. 16:22 — If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha.

Gen. 6:5 — And God saw that the wickednss of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Jer. 17:9 — The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Rom. 3:10-21 — As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: there is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulcher: with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: their feet are swift to shed blood: destruction and misery are in their ways: and the ways of peace have they not known: there is no fear of God before their eyes. Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets.

1 Jno. 1:10 — If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

I CANNOT BELIEVE. THINK FOR MYSELF.

Psa. 14:1 — The fool hath said in his heart. There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Rom. 1:21, 22 — Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Profesing themselves to be wise, they became fools. 28 — And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient.

3:3 — For what if some did not believer shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?

2 Thess. 2:10 — And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

Jno. 3:36 — He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

1 Jno. 5:10 — He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

NO ONE CAN BE SURE.

1 Jno.5:1 — Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. 13 — These things have I written unto you that ye believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Jno. 5:24 — Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

6:47 — Verily, verily, I say unto you. He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

10:28 — And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

Rom. 8:31-39 — What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who Can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 Jno. 3:14 — We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. 24 — And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

2:3 — And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

I AM A BACKSLIDER.

Prov. 14:14 — The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.

Jer. 3:14 — Turn, O backsliding children, saith the Lord; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion. 22 — Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the Lord our God.

Mal. 3:7 — Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the Lord of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?

Hos. 14:4 — 1 will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him.

11:8 — How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? how shall I deliver thee, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah: how shall I set thee as Zeboim? mine heart is turned within me, my repentings are kindled together.

I HAVE SO MANY THINGS TO GIVE IT.

Mark 8:35-37 — For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Phil. 3:7-9 — But what things were gain to me, those, I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, and be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith.

Luke 18:22 — Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him. Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

Rom. 8:18 — For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

I HAVE TRIED AND FAILED. FEAR I CANNOT HOLD OUT.

Isa. 41:13 — For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee. Fear not; I will help thee.

Eph. 3:20 — Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.

Phil. 1:6 — Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.

Jno. 10:26-29 — My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father which gave them me is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.

2 Tim. 1:12 — For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

Jude 24 — Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy.

NOT NOW. SOME MORE CONVENIENT TIME. Gen. 6:3 — And the Lord said, My Spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.

Prove 27:1 — Boast not thyself of to morrow: for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

29:1 — He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

Mat. 24:48-51 — But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to smite his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; the lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, and shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Luke 12:20 — But God said unto him. Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?

2 Cor. 6:2 — For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succored thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

Heb. 3:15 — While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts as in the provocation.

Jas. 4:13-17 — Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

TESTIMONIES.

“Thy Testimonies are Wonderful.” Psa.119:129.

To the Readers of The Gospel Trumpet: I praise God this morning for salvation full and free, that saves me each day, and keeps me trusting in the Lord. Eight years ago the Lord, through the preaching of the Word, awakened me up to my condition. I had belonged to the Methodists twenty-cue years, but I did not have any salvation, I was destitute of the Spirit of God, but ho forgave all my sins, and afterwards sanctified me, and keeps me walking in the light. I am a widow, and have to work hard to support my children, and have many trials to pass through, but God’s grace is always sufficient. The Lord is my physician, he has healed me many times since he saved me. We have precious little prayer meetings on account of the presence of the Lord. Your sister saved and sanctified,

Mary J. Smith.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ: Praise God for this opportunity to write to the Trumpet. I must acknowledge the goodness of the Lord in sparing my life to seethe beginning of the year 1895, which brings me very near my 70th year. Praise his dear name for his mercy shown to unworthy me in his saving, sanctifying, and healing power. When deprived of the privileges of meetings, as is the case often when feebleness of old age comes on, when confined to our private rooms, then is when we appreciate God’s word the most. Oh what joy it brings to the soul of the true Christian! What sweet communion in secret devotion! The precious present gospel truth as shown in this evening light, is a glorious boon to my soul in the evening of my life. I have lived to see the dawning of a brighter day. The Lord is preparing his bride, for his coming. The unity of all true saints in one body. Yea, the sifting time has commenced. We see the separating; how it stirs the enemy! Remember me in your prayers, that I may be steadfast, always abounding in the love of God, that Christ may be glorified in my body, whether in my life, or by my death. Your true sister in Jesus,

Barbara Keller.

Dear Trumpet Readers: May the Lord continually abide with you. I feel that I must write a few words to cheer some one who is weaker than myself, feeling that I have been born again. My faith has been increased so much this last week. It seems as if I never knew what it was to trust God before. But oh, what a trial God did take me through! It seemed as if he was going to take all the faith away from me. And I just had to cry to God to show me what was wrong. I asked God to show me why I could not grasp faith. I had just been anointed and healed (through a dear child of God that is working here in this wicked city to save a few souls), and yet I lacked faith. There was something I had not done, and I felt it. The devil tried to make me think I was sick. It did seem as if my body would burst with the burden inside. I could not get victory in any way. But as I went down stairs I saw some medicine on the pantry shelf. I praised, God and said the Lord wanted me to throw it away. So away it all went, and oh, such peace as came over my soul! All the burden went away, and I am rejoicing in a new hope and faith to day. I feel that we weak ones do not trust God enough. We must throw ourselves in the arms of one who has borne all our burdens before us. Your sister under the blood,

Addie Tracy,

3443 Cottage Grove Ave.
