We will Work for Jesus.

_____

We will work for Jesus, and adore the plan,
That exalteth so a fallen race.
Joining with the Savior, doing what we can
To extend the wonders of his grace.

Chorus.
We will work for Jesus,
We will work for Jesus,
We will live to him who died_for all
Till we hear the final trumpet call.

We will work for Jesus, all to him we owe;
Only for his mercy we would be
Lost in sin forever; but we truly know
That his mighty love has set us free.

We will work for Jesus, we are not our own,
Jesus, we can never idle be;
Souls around us dying, purchased for thy throne,
We will gather in thy kingdom all the day

We will work for Jesus, bless his holy name!
Every where there’s plenty we may do.
Early in the morning, till the day is gone,
Jesus, we will labor on for you.

MEEKNESS.

_____

BEHOLD the great Exemplar. “Learn of me; for I am meek and lowly of heart, and ye shall find rest unto your soul.” — Matt. 11:28.

Follow after meekness. But thou. O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. — 1 Tim. 6:11.

Meekness is one of the most precious fruits of the Spirit. We think it is not too much to say that this grace is a sure product of the Spirit of God in the heart. So that the person who is not meek or humble cannot be said to possess the Spirit of Christ, who is meek and lowly of heart. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. — Gal. 5:22, 23.

Put on meekness. Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long-suffering; forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any; even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. — Col. 3:12-14.

The effectual way to put on this heavenly grace is to have the blood of Christ cleanse all pride, self-conceit and selfishness out of the heart, and have the love of God shed abroad therein by the Holy Spirit. Furthermore it can be put on by carefully avoiding everything that savors of the opposites, and cultivating that grace in all our conversation and actions.

And only by so doing, can we walk worthy of our high calling in Christ. I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love. — Eph. 4:1, 2.

Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you ? Let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. — James 3:13.

A good degree of this grace is essential to receive the word of God. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. — Jas. 1:21.

In the gentle winning tones of this divine grace we must answer all enquirers respecting our hope. — But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear. — 1 Pet. 3:15.

And he that teacheth must breathe the spirit of meekness with all his lessons. And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient; in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; and that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will. — 2 Tim. 2:24-26. Yea even the perverse and opposers of truth, who thereby oppose themselves, must be answered with patience, kindness and meekness. If even reproof is needed it can be given in an humble and feeling manner, if love sways his sceptre in our hearts. And sometimes we have seen the most subverted, gross spirits captured and bound by the law of love, and cast out by the power of God.

Restore the fallen in meekness. Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. — Gal. 6:1.

And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. — 2 Thess. 3:14, 15.

So important is this gem in the breastplate of our righteousness that we are required to wear it constantly in full view of all men. Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, to speak evil of no man, to be no brawler, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men. — Titus 3:1, 2.

Finally we show you a rich cluster of promises to all the meek and lowly of heart.

The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the Lord that seek him: your heart shall live forever — Psa. 22:26.

But the meek shall inherit the earth (land) and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. — Psa. 37:11. The word “earth” should have been rendered land, as in verse 29, where it is said, “The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein forever.” To inherit the earth, would be to possess temporal wealth. But it is usually in the hands of the wicked. But the land, means, in all such scriptures, holiness. It is the exclusive inheritance of the righteous. The earth shall be burned up, but the Canaan of perfect love shall endure forever. Thank God, this is the home and portion and joy of the meek. If any one’s heart becomes lifted up, the land will cast him out.

The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way. — Psa. 25:9.

To day there is a preparatory judgment of God sweeping over the earth. What is it for? Ans. When God arose to judgment, to save all the meek of the earth. Selah. — Psa. 76:9.

Though God is no respecter of persons, he is of characters, therefore Though the Lord be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly; but the proud he knoweth afar off. — Psa. 138:6. The lord lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground. — Psa. 147:6.

For the Lord taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation. — Psa. 149:4.

The meek also shall increase their joy in the Lord, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. — Isa. 29:19.

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. — Matt. 5:5.

But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble. — Jas. 4:6. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. — Ver. 10.

For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: Even as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him Lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement. — 1 Pet. 3:5, 6.

The conclusion: But thou, O man of God, flee these things: and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; that thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ. — 1 Tim. 6:11-14. The Lord bless the foregoing scriptures and the following verses in creating much pure longing for deep humility. Amen.

OH BE HUMBLE.

Why should a creature of time be haughty?
Why should a mortal be proud?
Soon will thy story of life be ended,
Hushed in a coffin and shroud.

CHORUS.
O let the spirit of man be humble
Low in the valley of peace;
Softly the river of life is flowing,
Down in the valley of peace.

Be not high minded, O man! but rather
Low in humility stay;
Thus it becometh a soul that dwelleth,
In a poor temple of clay.

O let the spirit of man be humble,
Here in the presence of God;
Learn the sweet lesson of Him that is lowly,
Meekly pass under his rod.

He that is proud the Mighty resisteth,
But to the humble more grace
And the sweet treasures of love he giveth;
And truly they see his face.

__________

CITIZENS OF HEAVEN.

_____

FOR our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. — Phil. 3:20. The word conversation, in this verse is from the Greek POLITEUMA, and means CITIZEN STATE OR LIFE. The apostle was able to say to the Philippian brethren, Be ye followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. — Verse 17. Some were walking contrary to the gospel and were enemies to the cross of Christ, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things, and whose end is destruction. — Verses 18, 19. This is a true description of those who belong to the world. They may make aloud profession and claim the respect of the majority of the professing world, but they are enemies to the cross of Christ, because they are of the world and citizens of the world. If they ever did, they now no more possess the heavenly citizenship. They are friends of the world. Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. — Jas. 4:4. Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world the love of the Father is not in him. — 1 Jno. 2:15. The child of God does not belong to the world. Our citizenship is in heaven. God has delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son. — Col. 1:13. Although we are in this world, we are not of it. We belong to another country, and are only foreigners here. Our affections are set on things above. We are pilgrims and strangers upon earth, the citizens of heaven. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country; and truly if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he hath prepared for them a city. — Heb. 11:14-16. We receive this heavenly citizenship through repentance from our sins and faith in Jesus Christ. We were aliens to God and that heavenly country, but now we are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and of the household of God. — Eph. 2:19. The sinner is a foreigner to heaven and will never be able to enter that country until he receives the divine birth which here on earth translates him into the kingdom, the church. This makes him a citizen of heaven. His name is enrolled upon the citizens’ record, Book of Life, and he at once begins his pilgrimage to his own country. He has left the world, and now rejoices in the prospect of his heavenly home. There is yet an experience for him to obtain, before he becomes thoroughly naturalized. He knows he is a citizen of heaven, and has forsaken the world, but still feels some of the foreign elements within him. By declaring eternal loyalty to the divine Sovereign, he at once becomes cleansed from every root of bitterness, and by faith receives his full naturalization and obtains the complete benefits of a citizen of heaven. The old man is crucified, and every native characteristic is swept away. He is a new creature. He has received the pure language of heaven, and speaks it with perfect ease. The foreign brogue is lost and his former ruler (Satan) finds it impossible to identify him, because he is a naturalized citizen of heaven. In Fhilippians 1:27 the apostle gives us the admonition to

ACT AS A CITIZEN OF HEAVEN.

Only let your conversation be as becometh the gospel of Christ. The Greek word here for conversation is POLITEUO and means to ACT AS A CITIZEN. What an important admonition to the professed follower of Jesus Christ! We are in this foreign land which is not our country. Do we always act as Jesus would? “He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also to walk even as he walked.” As we have so completely learned the language of heaven, the language of the world has become foreign to us. So with all its customs and fashions. We are now strangers to it all and are only passing through the wilderness, as Israel of old, to our own land. Our treasures are not here. Our mansions are in heaven in that “city which hath foundations.” Our nativity is not here; our affections are not here; we have no claims nor right to anything of this world. Our supplies all come from our own country. We are foreigners exclusively. Our king sends us our every need, “according to his riches in glory.” Our food and raiment although gathered from the earth, are blessings like manna from our own country. We cannot store up any of them here, for they will not keep in this perishable clime, but will stink and breed worms. Some poor souls have endeavored to gather up more than their present needs and have thereby suffered great loss, not only through much delay, but many are continually left behind, and perish with their forbidden goods. We have no pleasure from this perishable country. Our pleasures and joys have all been changed. We cannot enjoy that which is foreign to us. All our earthly friends and relatives are left behind; fathers, mothers, husband, wife, children, all become strangers to us, until they too accept this heavenly citizenship. If they refuse to accept it, we bid them farewell, notwithstanding our tender love for them, and pass on in haste to our own land. Every tie is severed, and every obstacle that would hinder our progress is destroyed. All the gilded treasures of this earth have lost every attraction. They are no longer dear to us because we have found richer treasures. Even the reproach of Christ is greater riches than all these perishable things, which are but dross in comparison with the excellency of our own country. “We are dead and our lives are hid with Christ in God.” Our king sends us glorious messages of cheer from our beloved home as we pass along, and frequently we behold through our telescope (faith) that beautiful land in the distance. The heavenly breezes bring to our souls the delightful odors of our blessed home. Our chief delight is to tell of the great resources of that country, of which we are the distinguished citizens. Instead of sorrow or despondency we have perpetual joy and comfort. The Comforter of that heavenly realm has come to our hearts and has taken up his abode with us, comforting us in all our tribulation, and enables us to “comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.” But all this is only a foretaste of our “inheritance which is incorruptible and undefiled, reserved in heaven for us.” Dear fellow-citizens, let us be loyal to our country. Your brother in the royal family,

J. W. Byers.

BY DIVINE POWER.

Carmi, Ill.

Dear Saints: We are rejoicing in the Savior this morning. Our little seven-year-old, whose health has been poorly, was taken seriously ill on Dec. nth, and it seemed that she could not live until morning, as her fever was so intense, and the pain so severe. We called in some of God’s children and had her anointed in the name of the Lord, and prayed for her arid she soon began to amend. We afterwards had prayer again and she arose and called for something to eat. She is now restored to health without the aid of earthly means. To God we give all the glory and honor. Glory to his name!

Columbus, Kan., Jan. 8, 1894.

As I felt led of the Lord to write our testimony, to let you know how we are getting along. The dear Lord is still blessing us with a reasonable portion of health. Husband is still improving slowly; he can sit up two hours each day by the men putting him in the chair. It seems a long time for him to get out again, but the dear Lord knows all things, and we are willing for our will to be his will for we realize that he has been wonderfully keeping us by his almighty power. We feel that we have been taught a wonderful lesson of patience, and to wait upon the Lord. We are enjoying ourselves studying music and learning the new songs of Zion in the new books. They are so precious and we can spend our time that way praising the Lord and it does not seem so long. It has been one year the first of next month since husband was burned. Yet it does not seem so very long, for truly the Lord has kept our minds stayed on him. Pray for us that we may ever be faithful to him. Your sister saved in the one body,

Alice A. Wilson.

AN EXPLANATION.

_____

Geneva, Ill., Jan. 20, 1894.

Dear Readers of the Trumpet: I feel it my duty to explain some things that are being published against me now. My husband is writing all around everywhere that the saints parted us. Now I wish to say to both saint and sinner, that such is not the case, it was between him and me alone. He forbade me attending the saints meetings, and when I would go he would follow me and force me to go home or else disturb the meeting, and so it came to be a case of obeying God rather than man. He would always quote, “Wives obey your husbands in all things,” but he would leave out “in the Lord.” Sister Mary Cole never said a word to me about leaving him. I left him in Kansas, but after I went to South Bend to live, Bro. Schleehauf asked me if he had ever committed fornication. I said no, not as I ever heard of. He said, then you had no scriptural authority to leave him. So when I came to Geneva I went to him in Chicago and asked him to come home, which he did. Last May I went to Ohio to see my daughter, as she was sick, and he went away again, and when I came back I went after him again and wrote to him twice to come home, and he said he would never live with me again unless I would denounce the “Warnerites.” I told him I did not know any such people, and no gentleman would ever call names. I love my husband as well as I ever did, but I cannot give up the right way to please him or any body else. I pray God to save his soul. He is preaching, he has gone to Mexico to hold meetings; 2600 miles from Chicago. Well I am still saved. Your sister,

N. M. Wyrick.

QUESTIONS.

_____

Almira, Wash., Jan. 5, 1894.

Dear Brother Byrum: Allow me to ask the opinion and scriptural meaning through the columns of the Trumpet of the following: Is it right to hold basket socials in the church? i. e. to put up dinners and auction them to the highest bidder for the sake of raising money for the (supposed) glory of God. The fact is this: I profess to be a Christian, and though a very cold one I am, yet I have seen the time when I did enjoy full salvation, and have seen many happy times in our little church here waiting upon the Lord, but always opposed basket socials, etc. entering the house of God; but they have entered and have taken away from the once spiritual church all signs of spirituality; yet very devout Christians will come in and claim it to be all right. Please give me a full and complete explanation of this matter, and may the Holy Spirit instruct you in doing so, as nothing else can do. I ask this principally for my own good as I should like to take part in all socials if I can feel they are of God. Pray for me that I may regain my salvation and become full and free in God. Your brother in Christ,

C. C. Davis.

ANSWER. In Matthew 21:12, we find the opinion of Jesus, about such carousals. “And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of money changers, and the seats of them that sold doves and said unto them, “It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.”

The so-called churches of to day have their houses which they claim to have dedicated to the service of God, In which are held their socials, parties, Christmas trees, fish ponds, festivities and revelry equal to that of king Belshazzar, the night ancient Babylon was taken captive by the enemy. As it was during the time of a great feast and revelry and drunkenness that ancient Babylon was taken, so it is with modern Babylon, or sectism, during her festivities and worldly conformity, the devil has found it an easy matter to capture the whole affair, and were Christ to step into one of those places, preachers and people would meet the same fate as did those money changers of old.

Babylon means confusion, and truly the various creeds of to day, with their different beliefs, disciplines, revelry and worldly conformity, form a complete babel of confusion, and the Bible terms them mystic or spiritual Babylon. John the Revelater did not miss it when he looked forward to the present time and with a prophetic voice, said, “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils,” etc. And he says, “I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” — Rev. 18:2-4.

God is sending his messengers forth in these days with that message, and Christ says, “My sheep hear my voice.” When he says, “Come out of her, my people,” he means just what he says; and in 2 Cor. 6:14-17, the word says, “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers,” etc. “Wherefore come out from among them and BE YE SEPARATE, SAITH THE LORD.” When he says, “Be ye separate,” he does not mean that you shall hang around and try to work with them in union meetings, etc., trying to give them light and thus get tainted and entangled again yourself. “Let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them.” Jer. 15:19. It matters not how spiritual a person may have been in the past, when the light comes if they do not obey these commands of God, and move out for him alone, they will become spiritually dead, although they may keep up their profession.

A church that goes on in revelry and festivities of the world is not the church of God, but only one of the daughters of Babylon.

QUESTION. What does Matt. 16:24, mean.

ANSWER. It means just what it says. A person must consecrate themselves to do the whole will of God, and then do it. Though plans may be laid for the future, if God directs otherwise, we are to deny ourselves of our own plans and choose God’s ways and follow his example and commands.

Q. Is it right to preach funerals, or in other words, is it scriptural?

J. B. P.

A.Jesus said: “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” The scripture does not command that a funeral sermon be preached when anyone dies, nevertheless, it is a very appropriate time to deliver the word of God to people who never go to a place of religious worship at any other time, and also on such an occasion while the people are made to realize the uncertainty of life, their hearts are more open to receive the truth.

The object is not to preach to the departed ones, nor to try to preach them to heaven, but to instruct and advise the living, and warn them to prepare to meet God. At such a time is a good opportunity to present the gospel in all its purity and solemnity by the power of the Holy Ghost.

LET US DO OUR DUTY.

Dear Beloved Saints: In the name of Jesus and for the sake of the cause of God we write these few lines. Dear ones, our soul is moved with holy zeal to day for the cause of God and especially the missionary cause. If there ever has been or will be a time when the great harvest field (the world) is ripe, and when there is need of consecrated men and women to go to the ends of the world for Jesus it is now. To day nearly every nation on earth can be reached with the gospel; and the cry comes from far and near, “Send oh! send the light.” And God is saying to his people, “Who will go?” And oh, dear ones, when I see so few who are willing to forsake all for Jesus and go in his name, it does put new zeal in my soul, and I am determined that by the grace of God I will do all within my power to carry this gospel to all the world. Are we as children of God doing all we can for the advancement of the missionary cause? or have we no interest in it? True, a little has been done by sending six or eight missionaries across the Atlantic; but in the name of Jesus, could we not have done more? Are we as children of God, consecrated, soul, body, time and means as we profess to be, and as we should be to push forward this great work? Once more we appeal to all God’s holy people, let every one of us do all within our power this very year to scatter this blessed evening light. Oh may this coming year be one of glorious victory for Jesus, and may the heavens be made to resound with praises to God over sinners returning to God from many nations. Oh! let us do all we can this year by our prayers, our time and means. I will, God helping me; I will, will you?

I have just received a letter from dear Brother and Sister Rupert, of Liverpool, England; and oh! dear ones how I wish you could all read it. As we read the touching words the tears came to our eyes. Oh, is it possible that such precious consecrated laborers as this dear brother and sister must suffer for the want of the necessities of life, and money to carry on the work that God has called them to do, while so many of the people of God have such an abundance. These dear ones have left all and have gone out into the cold world far, far from home. They ask for nothing of this world, but live only to work for God; and now they are in need and must have help at once. The sister says we could do more for God if we only had the means. Also they are called of God to go on to Germany just as soon as they get the means to take them there. And now can we refuse to help them when we see them in need? How often you pray for the dear ones over in England and ask God to supply all their needs; but did you ever think that money as well as prayers is needed? Let us do at once what we can. After reading this letter we went on our knees and earnestly prayed for the dear ones, and while praying God impressed us to send five dollars which had been given us. Then the devil says, “You can’t do it, for you surely must use it yourself.” But in Jesus’ name we rebuked the devil and promised God that if we never had another cent we would do our duty. Then we felt led of God to ask you all to help also. Dear ones, do for

Dearly Beloved Saints: God bless you all with complete victory in Jesus evermore. I am fifteen miles north of this place holding meeting in the name of the Lord. Meeting began the 7th; three dear souls raised their hands for prayer last night; pray for me and the work here. I will write you a letter so that you may know how the Lord has ordered me since the June camp meeting. I left Grand Junction in company with Bro. W. A. Haynes for Hayesville, Iowa, where we began meeting in the name of the Lord, lasting for a few days. I departed from thence and came to Omaha, Neb. where four dear souls were buried with Christ in baptism. Then to Berwyn, Gordon, Cushing, Kent, Almeira, of Neb. I do testify that I have seen souls justified by faith, and the justified cleansed from all sin or sanctified wholly. God is wonderful good to them that obey the truth. Men, women, boys and girls, and little children are healed. Hallelujah! Any one writing me, address, Albany, Neb. Your brother, sanctified wholly,

Dear Saints of the Living God: May heaven’s richest blessings rest on you all for Jesus’ sake. Amen. I am saved, sanctified and joyful in glory, praising God for what he has done and is doing for me. Wife and I came here Jan. 15, 311 miles west of Table Rock, Neb. We found Brother and Sister Kepford joyful in glory. Hallelujah! We commenced meeting in the village school house the same night we came. Many homes here are deserted on account of the drought last year, but there are many precious souls here yet that are hungry for the pure gospel. Several places are open here for meeting, and we expect to stay in this part of the country as long as the Lord wills. If there are any of God’s saints scattered through this country in reach of this place, we heartily invite you to come and get your spiritual strength renewed, and assist in the meetings. The weather is fine and the roads are good. Farmers are sowing wheat. Levant is eight miles west of Colby on the C. R. I. and P. R. R. We expect to go to Colby also to hold meeting. Address me at Levant, Kan. or Table Rock. Neb. Pray much for us and the work in the west.

Dearly Beloved Brethren in Christ: I have not reported through the TRUMPET, but I have been engaged in the work of the Master. The dear Lord has been using me in publishing everlasting truth. I met with the dear saints at Tekonsha, Mich., in two meetings. From there I went to Johnstown, where I held meeting about ten days. One soul saved. From there I went to Hope, Mich., where I found dear Bro. C. H. Eldridge and Brother and Sister Merritt. We had a precious waiting on the Lord, and then we all went from there to Marshal, Mich. or near there, where we met dear Bro. T. J. Cox and family. I stayed with them over one night and next day. I went to my home in Adrian the 29th of December, and took the train for this western country having felt that it was the will of the Lord for me to work in this country at least until the June camp meeting. We were much rejoiced to greet the dear ones at this place once more, and to find them rejoicing in God the rock of their salvation, and increasing with the increase of God. Truly God has established his church here and the work of God is spreading very rapidly in this country. Many calls for the pure gospel. We are now holding meeting in Bro. Moorehead’s school house. God is already working with the people. I ask the prayers of all the saints of God. Your brother sanctified wholly,

Ashland, Ohio, Jan. 18, 1894.

Dear Saints of God: God bless you all abundantly. Hallelujah to Jesus! I am the Lord’s free man. Not a foot of land do I possess. I am free temporally and free spiritually in Christ Jesus my Lord. After settling up my temporal affairs at New Washington, Ohio, I took train for Ashland, Ohio, on the 17th. Was met at the depot in the afternoon by dear Bro. Wm. H. Miller. We went to Sister Wason’s house where the meeting was commenced on Saturday Jan. 13. While Bro. Miller came to the depot to meet me the little ones were engaged in the meeting praising the Lord. We fell into line praising the Lord together. There have been eight consecrations up to this time, mostly for pardon. The town is of 5500 inhabitants and stirred up about this way. The straight word seems to be a new thing to them, and not much wonder, as there are twelve divisions in this place. We expect to continue here a few days if the Lord wills. Pray earnestly for this place. From here we go to Virginia if Father wills it so. Any persons in the surrounding country desiring meeting will address us at Reliance, Va., until further notice; as we expect to remain in that country for a time. We ask all your prayers that we may be used to the glory of God in helping to rescue poor perishing souls from sin’s destructive ways, by holding up to the people a perfect Bible salvation that has been brought to us through a perfect Christ that has given us a pure gospel to preach, and we are commissioned not to preach any other. If we should, the curse of God would be upon us according to his word. Yours in the holy war,

Wm. H. Miller and Rosenbery.

Anderson, S. C., Jan. 14, 1894.

Dearly Beloved Saints Scattered Abroad, Greeting: May the God of all grace supply all you need, according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Amen. We are glad to report perfect victory in the name of Jesus. After the meeting closed in Augusta, Ga. we went about eight miles into the country and commenced a meeting Dec. 26, which continued about ten days with good interest. Not many were saved but the people took a very good interest, and nearly all acknowledged the truth; and dear Bro. Davis was sanctified and his companion was converted. May God bless them for so kindly taking care of us while we were there, is our prayer. We came to Augusta, Saturday, Jan. 6th. Had meeting over the Lord’s day, also Monday night; and Tuesday I took my departure. Bro. Kilpatrick expects to hold a meeting at Hawthorn, S. C., about twenty miles from Augusta, then perhaps a while in Augusta again, then meet me at Greenwood, S. C. There are so many calls for meetings; it seems necessary for us to separate in order to do the work that needs to be done. I came to Greenwood in company with dear Bro. W. E. Gillespie, whom the Lord has called into the gospel work. Dear Bro. J. M. Campbell joined with us in the work at Greenwood, and after three nights meeting there we came to this place. When we came we found on Bro. Welborn’s farm a comfortable little house just finished for the purpose of holding meeting in. We commenced meeting last night in the name of Jesus, to continue as long as the Lord wills, after which we expect to go to other places near here. We went to a large cotton factory town yesterday. Took some tracts and Trumpets with us and gave to the people. Some of them requested us to come and hold a meeting, which we expect to do in the near future, the Lord willing. There are quite a number of people in this part professing holiness, but still in sectism. We earnestly request your prayers that God may enable us to present the truth in the power of the Holy Spirit, and lay judgment to the line.

Yours in the one body, sanctified wholly,

Thos. Carter and Co.

Cornell, Neb., Dec. 31, 1893.

Dear Saints of the Living God: My testimony to day is, I am sweetly saved in Jesus. I believe God wants me to report his work here at this place. As has been previously stated, God began to rescue perishing souls through the efforts of his flying messengers last spring, and the church of the first-born has been established at Cornell. And while the shouts of the redeemed have been going up to God, the beast and his image have been enraged and have marshalled all their forces to try the walls of Zion. And though Satan succeeded in starting a wedge of division, God enabled us to locate the sin and put it out of the camp, and we can report victory in the name of Jesus. Hallelujah to our God! The writer, assisted by others held a four days meeting on Elm creek, thirteen miles east of here, about the middle of this month. Three souls consecrated for salvation, and God owned the work by reclaiming one of his prodigal sons. On the twenty-seventh we were agreeably surprised by the meeting of Bro. Gilstrap, who came about eighty miles to meet the saints, which privilege he had never before enjoyed. He had been a minister in the free U. B. sect and afterwards preached for the anti-ordinance people, but was led into obedience by reading the TRUMPET. He sent to Denver for Bro. Swinburn who came and baptized him, and they followed the Lord in the ordinance of feet-washing in the presence of a large audience. Glory to Jesus! Well God used the dear brother in song and prayer, in answer to which the saints were enabled to draw nearer to God and realize a perfect fellowship with each other. On Saturday evening about eighteen of us went to Elm Creek and had an ordinance meeting at Bro. Joe Allen’s which was owned of God. To day Bro. Gilstrap administered the Word with power, Several consecrated for the second work, and God verified his promises. Praise his name!

Well, praise the Lord! We are still saved. We continued the battle at Cornell another week, and God gave us the souls of three young men for our hire, and the church has been greatly strengthened. We start for a new field in the N. W. county of Kansas to day. Pray much for Bro. Gilstrap and myself, for we are young in the work and need your prayers; but we know that God is able to give the battle into our hands, and like Paul we can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth us. Your brother saved and kept,

Chas. Harrison.

Centre Point, Ia., Jan. 15, 1894.

Dear Beloved Saints of God: May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ ever rest upon your precious souls, and may the glory of God which endureth forever, and the joy which passeth understanding be your portion forever. Amen. Dearly beloved, we are glad to report to you to day of perfect victory in our souls over all the power of the enemy. Praise God forever! Our souls are abounding in the land of Canaan and we are persuaded that goodness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our life and we shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Truly our experience is deeper to day than ever before, and as we see our God advancing we can from our hearts say amen to the forward move, and by his grace, and renewed zeal, we press the battle to the gates. Truly we are living in the shaking time when God’s people are being tried severely; but thank God, those that will go through are coming out as pure gold. Oh! how wonderfully God does answer our prayers and give us power to convince the people of the truth of his word. Oh dear ones, it does pay to be completely out for God. Well we are still in the battlefield where we expect to remain for life.

On Dec. 15, wife and I came to Manchester, Iowa, where we held a very precious meeting. There were several consecrations and the precious little church was much settled down in the will of God and strengthened. God has a precious little band of consecrated saints at that place. God bless their precious souls and reward them for their kindness to us. We preached several times out in the country about five miles west of the city, with good results. The prejudice was removed from the people and several convicted, and a glorious opening for a harvest in the future. Some one should come to this state to stay. Bro. Haynes would find a welcome. May God send some one. Surely the saints in Iowa have been neglected. After the meeting at Manchester we came to this place and commenced meeting in the Christian meeting house. Have been here one week and we believe much good is being done. Sisters Fink and Shoffner were here last summer and much good was done and the people are interested. We are making our way west as fast as Father leads. Pray for us, dear ones. Yours in him,

W. J. and L. E. Henry.

Pullman, Wash., Jan. 6, 1894.

Dear Trumpet Readers: Since our last report the Lord has wrought gloriously in the gospel for his cause. Jan. 1st two more were immersed in Snake river by dear Bro. Tubbs. Thus far twenty-one in all have been baptized; more yet to be immersed in the near future. Thus closed that glorious and fruitful salvation meeting of two months. There were about forty consecrations in all, and about all still have the victory in their souls and are prospering in the Lord. The last Sabbath of the meeting, our dear Bro. Geo. Martin of Colfax was sweetly saved and fully embraced all the truth and the glorious evening light. This dear brother lived in dark formality for twenty years in the U. P. sect, was also an elder for some years. He was at last awakened and saved from all sin and sectism, testified to the same, but his testimony was not received by sectarians nor endorsed by Babylon devotees. At last for the want of light and instruction on present truth and by compromising he was drawn into the M. E. sect; was ordained a local preacher, but his eyes were soon opened to the crookedness and cold formalities of that sect and he withdrew from the same. He then began to look around to find the true people of God. We first sent him a GOSPEL TRUMPET and some tracts, by which he saw and was convinced that the saints were right, which brought him to the meeting. He is now happy in the evening light, praising God for salvation and holy freedom. We believe the Lord will make him a useful instrument and a shining light in his cause.

Thus far two preachers have come out into the light of God, two class leaders and many others. We feel confident that the Lord is going to save out more preachers and workers into the church of God. The work is evening up and prospering gloriously in Washington. Already there is plenty of work for two or three companies. We hope the Lord will soon send a clear and consecrated company here. By next fall there will be plenty of work for four or five companies. Sister Cole and Co. is desired here by that time. May the Lord send them and whom he will, filled with faith and the Holy Ghost. The Lord has wrought some glorious cases of divine healing and miracles. Sore and afflicted eyes healed; other afflictions which doctors could not cure have been instantly healed. The most wonderful of which was the remarkable case of our little Bro. Claude Bailey; a boy of eight years, who was kicked on the head by a large horse, and the skin cut open to the bone and pealed back half the length of a horse’s hoof, and which bled wonderfully; but in answer to his immediate offered prayer, the bleeding was soon stopped. Then according to Jas. 5:14, 15, the Lord healed that dreadful wound without any medicine or surgical aid, only a few stitches made by Bro. B. Then the matter was commited to God and he is doing well. Hallelujah to our God! From there we went ten miles west and held two meetings in the Hickman school house. The second night an M. E. sister was joyfully saved, and heavy conviction was on the people.

We are now holding a siege in his name at the Small school house, about eight miles west of Pullman. The Lord is doing a good work: To him only be all the glory. We earnestly solicit the fervent prayers of all saints in our behalf and the success of the gospel on the coast. Love to all. Yours in perfect love,

F. N. Jacobson and Co.

Peter Withim died Jan. 5, 1894, at Napoleon, Henry Co., O. Aged sixty- nine years eight months and fourteen days. He leaves a devoted Christian wife and eight children to mourn his departure. His disease was La Grippe. This peculiar disease, togather with his age, affected his mind insomuch that the physician took occasion to pronounce him insane; and for fear of violence he was taken by the sheriff from his sick bed in Deshler, amid the earnest entreaty of his wife and others desiring that he should remain with them, realizing his stay on earth was short. Nevertheless he was taken to Napoleon, part way through the cold, which of itself was enough to hurry him into an untimely grave. Here he was placed in jail after which he was taken to Toledo, O., as a victim for the asylum. After being examined by the physicians at that place they pronounced his disease LaGrippe and that he was not insane. Again he was taken back to Napoleon and placed in the jail, where he died Jan. 5, 1894. After his death he was taken to his home in Deshler for interment. Bro. Withim accepted the evening light about seven years ago and during his last illness he often expressed a desire to leave this world and be at rest. He wanted no medicine. The last words he was heard to say was, “Praise the Lord!” Funeral services Jan. 7, 1894 by

BE SATISFIED.

_____

“FOR he satisfieth the longing soul and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.” Psa. 107:9. God is a wonderful God, he does indeed satisfy the hungry soul. Dear reader, are you satisfied? If not, God has a satisfying portion for all who want it, but you must come to God’s terms before you will be satisfied; and if you are not, you can rest assured that there is yet something for you to do, for as the above text says, God satisfieth the hungry soul. So when you were living the life of a sinner far away from God, yet this promise stood there for you, and when conviction rested upon you and you repented of your sins and did your part, then God satisfied you by blotting them all out and remembering them no more against you for ever. So if you are not satisfied now, then do not blameGod, it is surely yourself, for God cannot fail.

He promises further to fill the hungry soul with goodness. Are you filled, dear ones, with this goodness? if not, whose fault is it? is it because God would not give it to you, or is it because you would not accept it on his terms? or do you hold to something that will not give place for this goodness? Praise God for a satisfying portion and a fullness of his goodness! I was at a funeral quite recently and listened to one of the Babylon priest’s pitiable cry that we could not be satisfied here in this world; that none ever were satisfied in this world, etc. I truly realized that as Paul says in 2 Tim. 2:6, the husbandman that laboreth must be first partaker of the fruits, and God showed me that he was not satisfied, hence his lamentable cry. I say shame on anyone who will teach such abominable trash! Should God grant to such a one all that this world could give him, and if it were possible for him to enter heaven, he no doubt, would not be satisfied there; but might want some changes made to suit him, just as they want to change God’s word to day, to their own tastes.

Well, God says that he will satisfy both soul and body, and if this is done, what more do we want? Psa. 63:5 says, My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness. Jer. 31:4, And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the Lord. We see here God says his people shall be satisfied; so it is evident that those who are not satisfied do not have what God’s people are privileged to have. Read what David says in the 23d Psalm. And in Prov. 13:25 we find that the righteous eatfeth to the satisfying of his soul.

Our father has his table set before us. and we can eat thereat continually; but we must eat what is on the table before we can expect any more or different food; as with our family tables. If the family are called to dinner and there is a disobedient child who says there is nothing there to suit, and that child will sit and let others eat what is on the table and wait for something better, the parents will punish that child for its disobedience. Just so with God; if there is something sometimes that you may think is not good and you commence to murmur and complain and will not accept it as food, but want to have your own ways and wait for something better, — I want to tell you that God will let you go hungry and you will not be satisfied until you eat what God gives you. Therefore we see it is not God’s fault but your own. Jesus says, I am the bread of life; he that cometh to me shall never hunger, and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. John 6:35. This is meat and drink for the soul. Now we are promised that we shall never hunger and thirst; are we then not satisfied? More than this, we have the promise of being not only satisfied but abundantly satisfied. They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house. Psa. 36:8. We find here David is speaking of those who put their trust in God, as we find in verse 7; so if we ate not abundantly satisfied we have not got our trust under the shadow of God’s wing. So dear ones, we see here that God is a satisfier to the soul.

Now let us see what he says of our temporal wants. Trust in the Lord and do good, so shah thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Psa. 37:3. The Lord knoweth the days of the upright, and their inheritance shall be forever. They shall not be ashamed in the evil time, and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied. Verses 18, 19. Here David is speaking of the upright, they are the ones who God will care for in times of famine and plenty. In order to do this we must do our part. Don’t sit down and think that as God has promised these things you need do nothing but just wait for them, for such is not the case. We find that he that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread. Prov. 12:11, and also, Love not sleep lest thou come to poverty: open thine eyes and thou shalt be satisfied with bread. Prov. 20:13. Here we see we must do our part of the work and God will do his; but if we neglect to do ours then we have no promise of being satisfied.

It is our duty to be satisfied. God does not want a weak, peevish and fretful people. As in all things else, we have Jesus for an example in this; and does he say we shall be dissatisfied? No, but he does say, But rather seek ye the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you. Luke 12:31. Now if we seek this kingdom and find it, then we have all these other things which we need also, consequently we are satisfied. And as we view the life of Christ we see that with all his sufferings he did not complain, but was always satisfied. When he was reviled he reviled not again. Praise God for contentment!

Now we find that Paul, with what he went through was always satisfied. “Not that I speak in respect of want, for I have learned in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” Phil. 4:11. And if he was satisfied with the persecutions and afflictions which he went through with, how much more so should we be of to day. We find further that we are commanded to be content. Let your conversation be without covetousness, and be content with such things as ye have; for he hath said, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee. Heb. 13:5. He says, Let your conversation be without covetousness. If you see a neighbor, or brother or sister getting along better; that is, they are having more of this world’s goods than you, do not covet it, but just be satisfied with what the Lord has given you, and make good use of that. God also promises to abundantly satisfy our temporal wants as well as our soul. I will abundantly bless her provisions; I will satisfy her poor with bread. Psa. 132:15. We find here that this promise is given to Zion. Now are we in Zion, the city of God, the church of the First Born? If so, this is for us. Then we are abundantly satisfied. But they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing. Psa. 34:10. So we are satisfied. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. James 1:4. Should we then be dissatisfied? Why, no; if we want nothing we cannot help but be satisfied. Dear ones, are you letting patience have her perfect work? Let God help you and the promises are sure. How dare anyone deny God and trample under foot his precious word, by saying that no one can be satisfied because they are not satisfied themselves? Jesus says, Ask and it shall be given you; seek and ye shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you. Matt. 7:7. And all things whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. Matt. 21:22. Are these promises true? if they are, then we must be satisfied. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. Mark 11:24. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do. If ye shall ask anything in my name I will do it. Jno. 14:13, 14. In order to have these promises granted we must be abiding wholly in the vine, and must come according to his will and not ours. And this is the confidence that we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will he heareth us. 1 John 5:14. Now we find that if our hearts condemn us not, we have this confidence toward God: that we can ask in faith, believing; but if have an empty profession and are leaning on it to carry us through, then we have not this confidence. And dear ones, if there is any condemnation resting upon you, there is a cause for it and if you do not know the cause, ask God to show you, and when he shows you then remove it, and do not do as this Babylon lord has done, — stand up and endeavor to preach the word of God, and yet admit that he was not where he ought to be. Now if you feel that you are not where you ought to be, it is your duty to let God put you in place and become satisfied. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not then have we confidence toward God; and whatsoever we ask we receive of him, because we keep his commandments and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. 1 Jno. 5:14:15.

Now dear ones, if you are not satisfied, then examine yourselves, for it is not God’s fault, and there is a cause for everything; and when you find the cause then remove it; and if you are not able to remove it yourself, ask God’s help. And should you not feel satisfied and yet not know the cause, ask God to show you and he will. There are many reasons for not being satisfied. One reason is, the love of money; which we find the Word says is the root of all evil. We find also, He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase, this is also vanity. Eccles. 5:10. Then there are many who are not satisfied because of their sins. Some will go on professing and have some sins covered from their brethren and the sinner, but God knows all and hence they are not satisfied, and will not be until they confess and come to the feet of Jesus and have them washed away. Therefore also will I make thee sick in smiting thee, in making thee desolate because of thy sins; thou shalt eat and not be satisfied. Micah 6:13, 14. Yes, there are many who are eating and not satisfied because of their sins. They will assemble with God’s children and will eat as it were of the Word and testimonies of God and his little ones, but they are not satisfied. Now we find also there are many who are not satisfied because of their own thoughts. This is a great hindrance to anyone to being satisfied. So long as you cannot commit your thoughts to God you will not be satisfied; but we must take God as he is, and our thoughts will not change him in the least. God says such are a rebellious people, who rebel against the truth and walk after their own thoughts. I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walk in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts. Isa. 65:2. We find what God has promised to those who obey and are satisfied, and also to those who walk after their own thoughts. Read Isa. 65:12-14.

Now if you are not satisfied, cast away your thoughts and ideas and everything else that conflicts with the word of God and fall at the feet of Jesus, and ask him and he will satisfy you. I know he has satisfied me, and I know he has not promised me anything more than any one else. He will give all the same if we are ready to receive it. Are you ready? If not, get ready; for this is the place to prepare for heaven, and if you are not perfected or satisfied here, you would not be if you could enter heaven. We have a perfect Savior and a perfect heaven awaiting us, and only those who are perfected (satisfied) can enter there.

IN ANSWER TO PRAYER.

Benton Harbor, Mich.

Dear Saints of God: I praise the Lord this morning for a perfect salvation which keeps me from all sin each day. Oh! I have such a sweet peace in my soul. Praise his holy name! Truly his yoke is easy and his burden is light. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him and I am helped, therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth and with my song will I praise him. I feel led of the Lord this morning to write this testimony to tell of his goodness. How ready he is to answer the prayer of faith. Our little girl had been sick for nearly a week; she had a bad fever, and was getting worse. I felt led of the Lord to send to the TRUMPET office to ask the saints to pray for her between twelve and half past. About the time we think they got the postal at the office, she went into a peaceful sleep and slept nearly two hours. When she awoke the fever had left her, and she got up and played around all the rest of the day. She was healed. To God be all the glory. I also received the witness of her healing. Dear saints, let us not be afraid to trust God; he will do his part if we do ours. His promises are all true; they will never pass away. I feel glad to leave all things in his hands, and I am perfectly satisfied with all his ways. Praise his name! Pray for me that I may ever keep humble to do his will in all things. Your sister, saved and kept by the power of God.

Dear Saints and Trumpet Readers: I feel led to write my testimony. I am happy; my soul is filled with His love. I am praising the dear Lord for full salvation, and victory over the devil. Glory to God! One very hard thing for me to give up was my church, as I called it. Well it did belong to man; if it had been God’s, I would not have had to give it up. Now pray for me, that I may keep all on the altar, and may open my mouth to declare the gospel of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Dear Saints of God: I am praising God for this blessed evening light, which I received by hearing the true gospel preached. I never heard holiness preached until last year; and I did not believe all the brother preached. But I went to reading God’s word and found he was right and I was wrong; and I gave up all sectism and went to praying for God to lead me in the light, and he did so. Praise his holy name! He keeps me from all sin. I can truly say I am dead to the world and its pleasures, and living for God. I am so giad Bro. Bolds came here to preach the gospel. My husband is not sanctified yet. I want you all to pray for him to be sanctified. Your sister, sanctified and satisfied,

I feel that God wants me to write my testimony. We are saved and kept by the precious power of God this morning. The Lord healed me last Lord’s day, for which I give him all the glory; also one soul was happily saved from his sins, and is now rejoicing in a Savior’s love. The blessings of God are resting on the church of God here at present; although the work needs a good company of workers filled with fire from heaven and wisdom from God, to preach the Word here so that the work of God can move on in these parts. But we are standing for God with victory in our souls. If any of God’s ministers feel moved to tome be will find a welcome in my home. Pray for us.

Dear Saints of God: God bless you all. This morning I bless God that I am so sweetly saved in Jesus, and sanctified by the Holy Ghost, in complying with the Word in the obedience of the same. For Jesus says, “If ye love me keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” Jno. 14:15-17. Only the obedient ones have him. See Acts 5:32. Praise God, I am so glad that I can testify through the GOSPEL TRUMPET, not only in the United States and Canada, but even in the foreign country, telling to the dear ones what God has and is doing for me in this great salvation. In reading their testimony it just seems to me that we are all together in one assembly, while their testimonies correspond with mine. We have such a real sweet fellowship with each other, realizing that the precious blood of the Lamb of God does cleanse from all sin. Oh I am filled with the glory of God, I am established on the solid rock Christ, wholly sanctified through and through by the Holy Ghost. I am dead indeed to this world. Rom. 6:11. I have paid the full price, all is on the altar, Jesus the altar. Not in conformity to the world as very many professors are, but have obeyed Rom. 12:12. I a branch in the true vine, the dead branches are all taken away. Jno. 15:2. God gave me a clean heart. When we say that we are dead to this world it means a great deal to be dead indeed, it includes all the desire for the pleasures of this world, and also the adornments; we are to be unspotted from the world. Jas. 1:27. A clean heart throws off all dead branches of the body, such as the spots on the forehead resembling the beast, Rev. 14:9. Also leaves the body adorned in modest apparel. 1 Tim. 2:9; 1 Pet. 3:3. Your brother under the blood, saved with an everlasting salvation just now,

Dear Gospel Trumpet Readers: By the help of God I will write my first testimony. I feel the Lord stirring my soul to write of the good things he has done for me. As I think over the past my soul rejoices within me and says, Oh it is wonderful, such a dear Jesus to suffer and die for a rebel like me! It was two years ago the last of June that I was saved in a Free Methodist sect; There was a class of thirty that went into the church, or so-called church at that time. But it seemed strange to me I had no leading to join with them. I would tell them I enjoyed my freedom so much, although I did not have the light on standing free, but I felt so clear in my soul. This took place in Michigan, at a place called Woodville. After coming to the state of Indiana, about one year after my conversion, in the place where we settled there was an M. E. sect and after some of their invitations to join their church as they called it, the preacher opened the door of the church and took me in. Oh, what a sad mistake for preachers to think they can open the doors of the church, when the word says, He shutteth and no man openeth; he openeth and no man shutteth. I I would say for the glory of God that I did not sit under the bonds of sectism very long, till I found it was not freedom in Christ. And the Lord wonderfully showed me in a vision the evil of sectism, and as the Lord revealed to me what the vision meant I was glad to obey the call where the word says. Come out of her, my people. And after obeying the call I again felt the freedom I at one time enjoyed. Oh praise the Lord! saith my soul. After that I went on to perfection, and bless the Lord, he sanctified my soul, and now I am free indeed. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. Oh glory to God! I would say in regard to the healing power, I know that the Lord can heal, for I was afflicted for twelve years and doctors said I never would be healed; but praise the Lord, I know that when I obeyed the word in Jas. 5:14, 15, he healed my body all at once, and I was permitted to raise from my bed of affliction, and praise the Lord with a well body. Your sister saved and sanctified,

C. C. Butts.
