The Right Must Win.

_____

O, it is hard to work for God,
To rise and take his part
Upon this battle-field of earth,
And not sometimes lose heart!

He hides himself so wondrously,
As though there were no God;
He is least seen when all the powers
Of ill are most abroad.

Or he deserts us at the hour
The light is all but lost;
And seems to leave us to ourselves
Just when we need him most.

Ill masters good, good seems to change
To ill with greatest ease;
And, worst of all, the good with good
Is at cross-purposes.

Ah! God is other than we think;
His ways are far above,
Far beyond reason’s height, and reached
Only by childlike love.

Workman of God! O, lose not heart,
But learn what God is like;
And in the darkest battle-field
Thou shalt know where to strike.

Thrice blest is he to whom is given
The instinct that can tell
That God is on the field when he
Is most invisible.

Blest, too, is he who can divine
Where real right doth lie,
And dares to take the side that seems
Wrong to man’s blindfold eye.

For right is right, since God is God;
And right the day must win;
To doubt would be disloyalty,
To falter would be sin!

__________

HAVE FAITH IN GOD.

_____

THE disciples at one time, seemingly with surprise spoke to Jesus concerning a miracle which he had wrought shortly before that time. He then and there, gave them a few words of instruction on the line of faith, with about as strong a promise as there is in the word of God, and the same instruction and promise extends even unto us today. He said: “HAVE FAITH IN GOD,” then he followed the same with words in which he placed no limit to the power of God; nor to the faith of his children; yet the work was to be performed upon conditions. They were to.

Ask and doubt not.

For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain. Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. — Mark 11:23.

Believe that ye do receive.

And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. — Matt. 21:22. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. — Mark 11:24.

These promises are to the children of God, and now let us begin to examine ourselves to see whether we are earnestly contending for the faith once delivered to the saints. This means something more than merely talking about what has been done in the past, or what might be done. It means to take God at his word and move out upon his promises, after learning his will about anything. People often get the idea that these promises were only for the apostles and people of ancient times. If this be true then why do we read the Bible with the hope of finding spiritual food for ourselves. It were better to lay it aside as you would a last year’s almanac. Nay! but the Bible is for us; the New Testament is our discipline, the Holy Spirit our teacher and he sends his messengers forth in various ways to herald the truths of the gospel. The promises are for us, and it is our privilege to hold God to his word.

He says: If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. — Jno. 15:7.

But it must be according to his will. And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us: and if we know that he hear us, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. — 1 Jno. 5:14, 15.

Upon conditions that we obey him. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. — 1 Jno. 3:22.

Ask of the Father in the name of Jesus. Whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name he may give it you. — Jno. 15:46. If you ask any thing in my name, I will do it. — Jno. 14:14.

Do not ask for a selfish purpose. Ye ask and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. — Jas. 4:3.

There is another very important condition which we should not fail to notice, and that is the taking of honor unto ourselves, either when God does something for us, or works through us. Jesus said, “How can ye believe, which receive honor one of another, and seek not the honor that cometh from God only?” — Jno. 5:44.

If anything is desired from the hand of God, it must be for his glory. It may be for our good, but he must have all the glory and praise. Many persons have lost power with God because they took glory unto themselves that should have been given to God, when the Lord had worked through them as instruments in his hands to show his power. “He that exalteth himself shall be abased,” but, God “giveth grace to the humble.” “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.”

But what about the healing of the body? Turn to the word again and get your instruction.

Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. — Jas. 5:13.

If ye abide in me and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. — Jno. 15:7.

If you are sick and unable to offer the prayer of faith, then send for the elders.

Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. — Jas. 5:14, 15.

If there are no elders in your community, let some true child of God be agreed with you for your healing.

Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. — Matt. 18:19.

If there is no one present to agree with you, write to some true child of God to pray for you, and also let YOUR faith take hold upon the promises.

The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. — Jas. 5:16.

According to your faith, be it unto you. — Matt. 9:29.

But is not the day of healing past? If so, the day of salvation is past, for they both go together. And the Lord has power to forgive all our iniquities and heal all our diseases. — Psa. 103:3. The reason there have been so few people healed during the past few centuries is not because God has changed, and his word become of none effect, but it is because the people have departed from the “faith once delivered to the saints.” Their teachers have departed from the faith, and teach the flock that they must do the same.

Thank God! he has a remnant who dare to believe his word and teach the people to obey God, and move out upon his promises. There is great need of advancement on this line, even among those who are claiming to take God as their physician. Now, we do not wish to be fanatical at all, or wrongly judge or condemn a weak brother, or one who has more faith in medicine than in God, but we desire to hold up Jesus to such, and recommend him as a Savior from all sin, and a healer of all diseases, and that he is able to do so without human skill, further than the compliance with the Word.

There are medicines, to be sure, that will cure diseases, but they are for those who are not acquainted with God, or those of his children who are afraid to trust him. This at a first glance, may seem like rather strong language, but upon further consideration after consulting the scriptures just given, you must admit that it is true. Because if a person takes medicine, it is because he is afraid to trust God without it. Some one remarks that, “there are but very few then who are not sinners, because almost every one takes more or less medicine, and the Word says, what is not of faith is sin. And what have you to say to that?”

Well let us see about it. For instance, here is a brother who has taken God for his physician, where he once depended entirely upon the doctor now he has dispensed with him, and when sickness comes, he only uses poultices made out of mustard, onions, flax seed, etc; takes a lobelia emetic; drinks hot teas made from ginger, hops, some kind of mints, or something, and some home-made tonic as a blood purifier. He takes them and prays God to bless them to his good, that he may get well if it be the will of the Lord, and he “pulls through,” as it were, all right. He has his faith in God, through the simple remedies, which he claims God gave to us, for us to use in such cases of necessity. When he gets sick again he says, “those medicines, or herbs, etc., cured me before by the help of the Lord, so I will try them again.” While he may do so, and not commit sin, yet, it is a very indirect was of trusting God for healing when he has shown in his word that he can do the healing without these things just as well; then he gets all the glory, unless the party healed should take the glory to himself because of his wonderful faith.

What would you think of a preacher who goes about teaching full salvation, and that God not only saves the soul from all sin, but also heals the body, and at the same time the preacher have a lot of teas and mints lugging about to steep in case of an emergency? Or at home, steeps, and poultices, and purges with pills and emetics, etc., doping himself and family, then if some brother or sister gets sick, takes his bottle of oil, reads to them, James 5:14, 15, and tells them they must believe the word, and the Lord will do the work? Such preachers are apt to teach that we have not yet reached the apostolic standard. Indeed measuring others by themselves and if others only measure to their standard it will likely be a long time before the apostolic standard is reached. But thank the Lord! he has ministers who measure to the word and practice what they preach, and preach the Word.

One reason the people are no further advanced spiritually, is because of the slack teaching. But, now, this lack of living up to the privileges given in the word, does not depend entirely upon the preachers. Many hear the Word, but are slow to move up to the privileges which it teaches. As before stated one may not sin by taking medicine, if that is his way of trusting God, and he has not the light nor faith to trust God alone, but he is almost sure to do more trusting in the medicine than in God. There are doubtless times when some simple remedy may be used to the glory of God, but the word of God does not recommend the doping system. James gives the Bible means, why not use them? Then, awake, awake! We serve a living God who is “able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.”

Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. — Matt. 24:35.

Are you going to believe His word and move forward upon His promises? or will you doubt and waver for fear He will fail to fulfill His promises?

E. E. Byrum.

__________

ONLY ONE WAY,

_____

AND that is God’s way. No other way to enter heaven, but the way God himself has made. That way is the way of the cross. “There is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved,” Acts 4:12; and this name is Jesus Christ, verse 10, “who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of God.” Heb. 12:2.

“Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin.” 1 Pet. 4:1. “Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” Mark 8:34. Here we see what it means to take God’s way, the way Jesus Christ travelled and marked out for us. Salvation is conditioned on self denial and suffering, in proportion to the extent of the soul’s rebellion or unwillingness to yield to the will of God. Salvation has its standard, its price; and all who would be saved must measure to its standard, and pay the full price. There is no other way, no climbing up some, other way to get into the kingdom.

Satan is deceiving multitudes of souls, in making them believe that God’s one way can be cast aside and a cheaper way sought. But be not deceived; all ways except God’s only way, will land the soul in hell. This is a time of deception, and the devil is very successful in causing people to ignore God’s standard, and set up standards of their own. Oh may the Lord help all to see that we must take God’s way if we wish to obtain eternal life.

Many are made to think that God’s way is a way that is hard to find and hard to understand. But remember it is always found by those who are willing to forsake their own ways and simply knock at God’s door, when it will be opened to them at once. It is not hard to understand. “The wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.” Isa. 35:8. God has also promised us his Spirit to guide us into all truth, and teach us all things. Jno. 14:16, 17, 26 and 16:13. It is only those who are unwilling that find the way hard. The willing and obedient shall eat the good of the land. Isa. 1:19. The trouble is in the heart instead of in the way. The way becomes easy just as soon as the soul is willing to forsake the ways of sin, and the believer is willing to have the root of sin in the heart put to death and destroyed. It is only then that the yoke is found to be easy and the burden light. Too many are wanting to serve God perfectly and at the same time take a little sin along with them; but now you have a chafing yoke and a heavy burden, and one that is not Christ’s at all, for his yoke is easy and his burden light. Matt. 11:30.

So then we give the Bible invitation to the sinner, “Whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” But do not try to take it until you really want it, and are willing to give up your sinful ways.

And to the believer, “Who then is willing to consecrate his service this day unto the Lord?” 1 Chron. 29:5. Be sure you are willing, for the Lord is a jealous God, and wants all your service of talents, time and strength. “I beseech you therefore brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” Rom. 12:1. A great many hold the idea that God’s way is an unreasonable one; but in the last scripture above we hear Paul calling it our reasonable service to consecrate all to God.

To gain eternal life by any other way than God’s way, is impossible. All must come to the cross of Jesus, lay down the wrong, and take up his righteousness. The standard is still just as high as it was when Jesus said, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” And “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” Matt 22:37, 39. Also “Whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s the same shall save it.” Mark 8:35. How many are taking God’s way? It will not profit you to try any other way. “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”

If you are willing to take God’s way, you will find it an easy one, and perfectly satisfactory to your soul in every respect, and it ends in heaven and eternal bliss. But remember, of this way it is said that “the unclean shall not pass over it.” “No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed of the Lord shall walk there.” Isa. 35:8, 9. So we find it a pure and clean way, admitting of nothing unclean.

One beautiful thought about this one way is, that, as the pilgrims travel on and reach the more perfect way of holiness (which is the higher part of God’s way), they all become one, in heart and soul. Being taken through the same purging fire, they are now destitute of all that would cause division between them, and are all fashioned alike. Having lost all of self they now have the mind of Christ. Hallelujah! “For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren.” Heb. 2:11.

“Only one narrow way; I am the way,
Only one open door; I am the door.
Only one shepherd kind, to heal the sick and blind;
Only one reeking cross, for souls that are lost.”

Andrew L. Byers.

__________

THE BARREN FIG TREE.

_____

To us and many, it has been a mystery why Christ would curse the fig tree for having no fruit, when according to the Common Version, it was not the proper season for figs. This mystery is beautifully cleared up in the translation of George Campbell. Mark 11:13 reads as follows: “And observing a fig tree at a distance, full of leaves, went to look for fruit on it, for the fig harvest was not yet.”

Upon which he gives the following comment. “Dr. Pierce has, from several passages in sacred writ, particularly Matt. 21:34, justly observed, that by the time of any kind of fruit or grain, is meant the time of reaping it. This, indeed, coincides with the interpretation which a reader would naturally give it. What can the time of any fruit be, but the time of its full maturity? and what is the season of gathering, but the time of maturity? But figs may be eaten for allaying hunger, before they are fully ripe; and the declaration, that the season of figs was not come cannot be the reason why there was nothing but leaves on the tree; for the fig is of that tribe of vegetables, wherein the fruit appears before the leaf. The leaves showed that the figs should not only be formed, but well advanced; and the season of reaping being not yet come, removed all suspicion that they had been gathered. When both circumstances are considered, nothing can account for its want of fruit, but the barrenness of the tree.”

Thus while the reading of the Common Version would finish an apology for the tree being without figs at that time, the correct rendering, as brought out by Geo. Campbell, leaves the tree without excuse, and justifies the curse which Christ pronounced upon it, which caused it so soon to wither.

This also puts the matter in a light, from which a striking moral lesson is derived. Sinners who know to do good and do it not, to whom the justifying grace of God has been freely offered, if they continue in willing sinful barrenness before God, will be cut down and destroyed by the blast of divine judgment.

IN THE DAY OF JUDGMENT.

_____

DO you want a good foundation to stand upon? From a letter from the publisher of the GOSPEL TRUMPET, we feel it our duty to make a few extracts. He says, “We have spoken through the TRUMPET, so often about means, to send out God’s pure gospel to the ends of the earth, now we will have to take it all to the Lord, and trust him to move in his own way. Each Tuesday from eleven to twelve o’clock we all join in an hour of special prayer for the necessary means; and we believe he will move on hearts somewhere.” “I presume that next week will bring a demand for the payment of at least $600 due business houses, mostly for paper. Where it is to come from, God only knows.”

Beloved, we do not this time, speak of these things so much to importune your help, as to warn your souls to lay up a good foundation against the day of judgment. We have been much drawn out in prayer to God in this matter, and the constant cries going up to heaven from the whole household at home, we are sure God is hearing, and as sure that he is making demands at the hearts of many who hold his money and property in their stewardship; and we know the call of God is coming so loud that if you refuse, you will expose your soul to everlasting perdition. I too, feel as Bro. Byrum says, to say little more in the TRUMPET about your duty of helping the cause of Christ by the use of his means in your hands; but my dear beloved brethren and sisters, my concern for your souls moves me to blow this blast of warning. God is in great haste, Christ is at the door, and yet “this gospel of the kingdom must be preached in all the world, for a witness to every nation, and then the end shall come.” We have not the least doubt that many of you who read these lines will be alive, and remain until that solemn day. How will it overtake you? Are you daily living and making such use of the Lord’s means that you will wish you had, if this day the last trump shall sound?

Now that you may see that those bills of paper were urgently needed, yea and ten times more, we quote again from the letter. “With the exception of the means, everything portends a speedy advance and spread of the work. There is a call for the pure word on every hand. It is reaching foreign fields. Bro. Achor started with over ten thousand books and tracts. Thousands have been sent to Chicago and scattered to all quarters of the earth. Workers have offered their service more than we can find room to keep, or means to furnish with work. Last week I received notice from a Norwegian who was recently sanctified in Liverpool, Eng., who says he feels led to come here and translate and publish matter into the Norwegian language. About the same day I received a letter from a brother from Norway who seems quite clear, and is anxiously searching for truth. He has translated parts of ‘Divine Healing,’ into the Norwegian and Scandinavian languages. P. Peterson, a Scandinavian evangelist, has been scattering thousands of tracts and papers wherever he goes. The German work seems to be on a standstill. I think it is for the want of means, that is being with holden from the Lord. The Lord will find the necessary man as soon as he finds men who will consecrate their means to God. And I know a few German speaking people, who themselves could supply all that is needed and not miss it. Think of it. They are calling for a German paper, in every direction.

Visitors and searchers after truth, and persons offering their services to help, have been flooding our dwellings until we have scarcely room to keep them. Since camp meeting our press stands idle about half the time for want of paper to print, and means to get binding done; though we have plenty of book and tract manuscript lying ready, yet the workers are busy making tracts and books, etc.”

Thus you see, dear beloved brothers and sisters, there has been a cause for this investment in paper, etc. Now dear readers, as God is moving a great demand for the pure gospel in many languages, and is moving men and women to consecrate their services to God to write, translate, print and circulate the same, it must be that God is also moving men and women in whose hands he has intrusted his means, to consecrate the same to his service. For surely God would not move this great demand for the pure gospel, and inspire men with a holy self-sacrificing zeal to print and send it out, and move all our hearts with much prayer for means, and not also move his people to do what they can with their means to accomplish his work. As the Lord God is true and hears his people, when they cry to him night and day, and answers them, for his name’s sake, we know he is moving men and women to deliver up some of his means, over which his providence has placed them stewards, and we. now write to solemnly warn you all in the presence of God, not to rebel against the Voice of God, lest the blood of lost souls be found upon your skirts, and lest the day of judgment find you without a foundation to stand before God. As Paul commanded Timothy to “charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; that they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.” 1 Tim 6:17-19.

In the name of Jesus we warn you all who read this solemn charge, lest your hearts became covetous, and you withhold that which God demands of you, and so you destroy the foundation of your own soul, and sink it into eternal despair. O my dearly beloved, while we feel a great solicitude for the enlightenment of all who sit in darkness, even more do we feel concerned for you who “know to do good,” for if you “do it not, to you it is sin.” — Jas. 4:17. O beloved in Christ, we feel like crying aloud unto you, as we stand on the brink of eternity, lest that which is written in Jas. 5:1-3 should be fulfilled in you, and yourselves shut out of heaven by your “robbing the Lord,” of that which is not your own, and withal, that which you could devote to his holy service, without suffering any deprivation.

Now dearly beloved, let this blast ring in your ears. We assure you that this work will grow and increase mightily, and the calls, by the Spirit of God, to those that have, will become louder and louder, and consecration will have to go deeper, or many souls will go into darkness, if they do not obey God. Behold the Almighty has arisen to shake terribly the earth, and he is going forth as a whirlwind, and a consuming fire to all the ends of the world, “and they that are with him are faithful and true.” It the usual morning and evening sacrifice, the public prayers, and the weekly hour of special prayer does not bring sufficient means, we suggest a daily hour of prayer by all the Trumpet family, and as many as will join with us. Dearly beloved, many of you who read these lines would freely give if you had it. This you can do, you can with us cry mightily to our God, and as he is faithful who hath promised, he will open hearts some where. If not the well to do, who can easily spare, he will find the willing poor who will give their very living, and trust God for their bread. And these shall not lack any good thing. And now after this warning we may have but little more to say to the people; but will by prayer and supplication to God make our requests known; and do the best we can with all the means that God sends, and leave the responsibility upon such as God will place it in the day of judgment, if any do not their duty. Amen.

__________

ARE YOU ROBBING GOD?

Mal. 3:8-12.

_____

OH how many who claim to be saved from sin, justified and sanctified, are yet robbing God! Some never take time to read his holy word and pray, only when a minister or some friend comes in, but go on with their work, forgetting that God gives them all the time they need to serve him and work too. I have seen some drinking tea and coffee, living on the fat of the land, in debt for the best paper in our country; there are no advertisements in it, to make money. How can any one neglect to pay in advance? Yes dear ones, may God help you to see they must have pay for the paper or go in debt in order to send your paper every week. They have to have something to eat and wear; they are not living on a farm. Some of you will soon get ready for Thankgiving dinners, invite your friends, and make a great feast of good things. Remember there are no great feasting days at the office or on the camp ground, but many days of fasting, and thanksgiving every day in the year. God’s grace is all sufficient; happy and contented, with perfect faith in Jesus, love and power to keep them; no murmuring or complaining.

Dear ones, when you read this, do not think Bro. Byrum or any one of God’s little ones has found fault or said a word about this to me. I have seen this with my own eyes and know it to be true. I have prayed over it, and may God help me to make no mistakes in writing this, to let you know that have never come here to see for yourselves. We read in 1 Tim.

Page 3

6:10, the love of money is the root of all evil. Well we want all evil roots taken out of our hearts, if it takes fasting ami prayer. It can be done too, sometimes, like pulling teeth. They must come before we can have rest and peace with God. Jesus can take them out without pain if we obey him. He wants pure hearts and clean hands where he dwells. Well, God is keeping his children willing to work for their board: no salary, only God’s love in their hearts, the joy and peace he gives all who leave all to follow him, who gave his life to redeem mankind from sin. Praise ye the Lord!

I wish I could give you a full description of the family, how plain they live, and how willing to trust God for everything, for the work on the camp ground, and the school house. Oh ’tis wonderful! Up in the morning, when many are asleep, cheerfully singing and praying while they work, giving God the glory. All happy and contented with their lot; have consecrated life, time, home, everything God has given them, to work for him. While some who have a great salary, taking life easy, living on the fat of the land, grumbling because they cannot have more. Sinners looking on, saying, If they are Christians I do not want to be one, going down to eternal ruin, hearing people professing without possessing salvation in Jesus’ blood. I pray God to give his saints true hearts, praying to understand his holy will in all they do. May they have understanding of the Bible. God is able to give more than we ask for it we make good use of the gift. Praise his holy name forever! It is God that gives the increase. — 1 Cor. 3:7. Every man shall receive his own reward according to his labor. Please read 2 Cor. 9. all through, and if you do not know what Paul means, get down on your knees before God, asking him to open your eyes and your hearts. May he put an earnest desire in every child of the King to do all he or she can in helping carry on the labor of love in every way they can. Men are working on the school house, carpenters and masons, and only get their board. And Bro. Michels gives his work and the Master boards him and his family. Bless His holy name! The school is on the same plan. One teacher has a wife and four children. They have a house to live in, and something to eat and wear; the other teacher gets her board, and grace and wisdom to keep her low down at Jesus’ feet, teaching and willing to be taught, teaching music and singing, with all common lessons given in all schools. Ministers’ children free; others are expected to pay their board and what it is worth to them in the school. God loves the cheerful giver. Let all things be done with charity. Some people may think the saints here are getting rich. How can that be when there are over thirty in the family, children, and always some visitors coming, and the sick, God wonderfully healing. Many come seeking light from heaven. Jesus is the light of the world; we need not live in darkness, but come to the light, ’tis shining for thee.

Those who have no money on hand to send can help spread the gospel by helping provide for the large family of busy workers. The freight will not cost you very much to ship a few bags of wheat, a barrel of potatoes, or cabbage, or other things from your farm and garden, a box of dried or canned fruit, a jar of butter, or in fact any provision for the table, or the family. Much can be sent in this way which you would scarcely miss, yet it would be a blessing to them, and the means of helping them to spread the gospel where they could not otherwise do so.

Now there are many things that sisters can do, knit mittens and little stockings, or socks for men. Some could send clothes for boys, others something to eat. And God help all who can send money. God alone knows the great responsibility and care resting on Bro. Michels and Bro. Byrum. And he knows what every one can do to help in the work here. I am trusting he will lead to his glory.

__________

PUT OF THE WHOLE ARMOR.

_____

Mariasville, Pa.

Dear Trumpet Readers: I feel it would be to the glory of my dear Lord to tell you my experience for over six years. For two years of that time I walked up to all the light that I had. Then God showed me that I was not sanctified. Then at the Red Lion camp meeting I went to the altar again, and the blood of Jesus Christ cleansed me from all sin. O glory to Jesus for his goodness to me! Then his Spirit bore witness with my spirit that I was wholly sanctified, and God put the high praises of God in my mouth. — Psa. 149:6.

Now dear reader, just notice how the devil tried to rob me of peace and rest, in which he succeeded to a certain degree. Before ever I left the camp he said, “If you go home and praise God aloud that way your family will laugh you to scorn.” Well, I went home feeling good in my soul, but never praised God aloud, only when greeting the saints. Well God would bless my soul with his sweet Spirit wonderfully for about two months after I was sanctified, and I would feel so happy. Bless the dear Lord! But I never let any of my poor family hear me praise God. O dear reader, my soul feels sad while I write these lines, to think that Satan could so easily rob me of rest and peace. Well, the devil had me deceived, for I thought I was doing all I could to please the Lord, and often wondered why I did not feel that sweet ecstasy of soul as at first. Oh how I would pray God to just lead to please him in all things, and often in the silent hours of the night the Lord would put a spirit of praise in my soul, and I would bless his dear name when no one could hear me. But with the return of day my lips were closed. The devil shut my mouth. Yet God says in his word, “Open your mouth wide and I will fill it.” Well finally God did not put any praises in my soul any more. Then I thought perhaps I was displeasing the blessed Jesus in some way, and would ask some or tell my experience to some who I thought God would certainly show, if there was anything wrong in my walk before God. One minister came the nearest to my case; he said I was letting the devil get too close, and said I must not do that, but should drink in the Spirit. Here the devil got the victory again. I did not know what the brother meant and did not ask him. So I prayed much in secret and sometimes would give in a rather long testimony with a pure heart, knowing I was not guilty of the least sin. At last the devil said I testified too long. Then I would just say as little as possible, so the accuser could not find fault. Then he would say I did not say all God wanted me to say. Well dear readers, you can easily see that I had no peace or rest most of the time. Sometimes I would feel all right I thought a little while, then I would hear some of the saints tell of a constant peace in their soul, and I knew God was no respecter of persons and also knew there was a rest to the people of God.

So about two mohths before the Pennsylvania camp meeting I just asked God to show to some of his ministers a scripture to teach to me and others, that would reveal to me my true standing before God. Then Bro. Warner did teach a wonderful lesson on faith, and my soul was greatly edified thereby. I came home from that camp meeting thinking I had found just what I needed, and walked in the fear of God with peace and rest in my soul for about three weeks, when on account of something that happened in the family I manifested a spirit of impatience, which God showed me was wrong and I quickly asked him to forgive me and it was done. But my rest was gone. I was back in the same place of confusion, and doubts and fears again took hold of my heart. Oh dear reader, it would take a long time to tell how Satan has hampered and worried my soul. Well I went to God with a sad and heavy heart and most earnestly asked him to show me where I was standing and what I could do to get peace and rest again. Then God spoke to me and said, “Do you remember when I sanctified your soul, and put the high praises of God in your mouth, which belongs to the armor of salvation, and you listened to the whisperings of the devil and laid down a part of your armor? that is why you are not able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God. — Eph. 6:11, 19. Well, bless the mighty God for the sweet rest and peace since he has taught me to put on the whole armor!

Dear readers, let us get on the whole armor; then we will be able to show and teach the way by the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left. 2 Cor. 6:7. The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Let ns therefore cast off the works of darkness and let us put on the armor of light. — Rom. 13:12. Now I have written this by the help of God. So it will edify some souls that are in confusion as I was, for the great God has revealed to me that there are quite a number put in that state from the same cause, dear honest souls too, and let us ever by the help of our God instruct with all the love and patience of Jesus, so that they may be able to get the whole armor on. Let us pray always for each other. Amen. Yours saved and sanctified,

Anna Rupert.

Pullman, Wash., Oct. 31, 1893.

Beloved Saints: May much grace, peace and joy be with you all. The meeting at Prairie Valley school- house lasted about ten days, and closed Oct. 8. Three were sanctified who had been saved in the former meetings. A brother who was taken very sick, was gloriously healed by the power of God. The gospel seed was sown. One or two raised their hands for our prayers. The Lord reward all for their kindness during our stay there. From there we went about ten miles south-west of Spokane, to White Bluff, and commenced meeting, which lasted about eight days. A few were saved, also the M. P. class leader gave up all and was sanctified. The precious seed was sown in some hearts, which will yet bring forth fruit to His glory. The Lord bless the kind friends who so kindly cared for us. We were earnestly invited to return and hold a meeting on Green Bluff next summer, which, the Lord willing, we will do in his name. The 21st, we arrived at Pullman, and tarried at the kind home of dear Bro. Bailey till the 25th. Here we had a most precious time holding up the truth to hungry souls. Two were justified, and they earnestly desire a meeting to be held in the town, which we expect to do in the near future, the Lord willing. We began meeting thirteen miles west of town, according to appointment, and the Lord is working wonderfully among the people. Sabbath was truly a high day for God in Zion. Judgment went forth to the house of God in the Spirit and power of holiness, when mighty conviction settled down on the people, and the power of the Spirit swept the congregation. About twenty came to the altar, and about all got the victory. The King of saints was in the camp, and there was great rejoicing in heaven and on earth as God’s captive saints returned from Babylon to Zion. There was leaping and shouting with great joy when the anointing came, which destroys all yokes. Hallelujah! About twenty raised their hands for our prayers, and still God is moving on his own work gloriously. Dear Bro. Bailey, the U. B. minister, a good useful man of God, declared his freedom from sectism, and was sanctified wholly. He has taken a firm stand, and fully embraced the evening light. Also the class leader, and many more. Bro. and Sister Bramford, of Oaksdale were over. They are useful and active workers. Were also sanctified wholly, and also declared their freedom from U. B. ism, and the sister came to Zion with a mighty shout in the Spirit.

Dear ones, God is giving us a rich feast and rejoicing in Him. Thus far, over twenty consecrations, and still more are coming to God. Bro. Olds, a Congregational minister, of Weston, Ore. happened to be at Oaksdale, was prevailed on by dear Bro. Peterman to attend the meeting, was with us Saturday and Sabbath. He was convinced of the truth, and that this is the way. He is almost persuaded to come out of Babylon to Zion. May the Lord hasten his escape, and sanctify him wholly. Let all the dear saints pray earnestly for his deliverance. We shall remain in these parts as long as the Lord wills. Here is a large, and indeed a precious field of labor in the gospel of the evening light. Dearly beloved, pray earnestly for the prosperity of the work here, and that we all be kept very humble and fully qualified in the Spirit for His work. Amen. Address us at box 56, as above. Yours and all the Lord’s,

F. N. Jacobson and Co.

West Monterey, Pa. Nov. 1.

We closed our labors in Butler, Pa. for the present, on the night of Oct 27. There was a good interest to the last. There were eleven buried with Christ in baptism on the last two days we were there. Also next to the last night we had a very solemn and impressive ordinance meeting. Men and women shed tears in the congregation as an effect of these sacred monumental institutions of Christ, performed in the proper light, as set forth in the scriptures, in which manner many of them had never beheld them performed before. That night the Lord gave us a fresh seal of the fact that he wishes these holy ordinances observed before the people as a means of preaching the gospel to the hearts through the eye, as the Lord said, “As oft as ye eat this bread and drink this cup, ye do show forth the Lord’s death.” To touch the frozen hearts of sinners the suffering of Christ needs to be set before their eyes, by the chosen monument of the Lord’s supper, and his love and humility of washing the saints’ feet, but on all such occasions the most profound order, respect and awe must be demanded, and held by faith over all the congregation, and if a church lack this power to command and hold the people in holy decorum they had better not observe these sacred commands in the midst of confusion.

The work was much hindered by the Sanballats and Tobiahs, an unholy clamor for sect organization, some who see and love the truth were hindered from seeking God by being daily drawn out to contend for the truth, against such as were agitated by the enemy to use their tongues against the same. Thus much good was spoiled by the influence of sect zeal. But the Lord has raised up, and we think pretty firmly established the Church of the Living God, in Butler, with about fifteen of his dear children, whose names are written in heaven. The Lord wonderfully blessed his dear children in obeying his holy ordinances; there were over twenty present to follow the example of Christ, and all praised him for the beautiful and holy footsteps which he left for us to follow.

We enjoyed greatly our stay in Butler. The dear Lord gave us all a comfortable dwelling and supplied all our needs; and the Lord blessed all the kindness of his dear children to us. There are many dear noble hearts in that place who love the truth and admire the pure gospel of God, whom we believe will be gathered to the name of the Lord. And we hope the dear Lord will lead other laborers into that field to continue the gleaning. Amen.

Bro. and Sister Stowe from Pittsburg spent some days with us before leaving Butler. They came with us here and expect to accompany Sister Billig to her home at Guy’s Mills, Pa. and with her and her husband hold some meetings in that vicinity. Bro’s Schell, Warren & Co. have opened a good work in Forest Co., Pa. whither they expect to return after the meeting here, and from there they expect to go to eastern Pennsylvania.

Our Go. go Nov. 6. to Fern, Clarion Co., Pa. to hold a meeting of a couple weeks, after which, we do not know yet where we shall go. Pray for us. Amen.

Alice, Mo., Oct. 16, 1893.

Dear Saints: We are praising God for a full salvation, and a complete victory over the devil. Glory to God! Since the Norwood camp-meeting, we have held one meeting near Watersville, Mo., close to the Arkansas line. We found the majority of the people at that place to be dead professors, by whom the way of truth is evil spoken of. 2 Peter 2:2. After much opposition, the meeting closed with great victory on the Lord’s side. From there we came to Ozark Co., Mo., two miles south of Dora Post Office, and commenced meeting in the name of Jesus. The Lord wonderfully blessed in giving the Word, and sending conviction on the people. Bro. and Sister Spears made a complete consecration, and placed themselves on the altar, and the Lord sent the holy fire into their hearts. Glory to God! Bro. Spears has a good hall to hold meeting in, and would be glad for some good workers to come and work in that country. We believe there can be much good done. Who can go? Lord send some one. From there we went home for a few days, and came to this place the 15th, and preached at night in the Logan school-house to a large congregation which gave good attention. We then moved the meeting to Rock Springs church-house, which belongs to the Free Baptist sect. But they could not stand the truth, and locked the door against us. But praise the Lord, we preached to a large congregation in the road under the beautiful trees. We will now hold meeting, at night in the school-house, and during the day in the neighbors’ houses. People seem to be interested in the truth, and some raised their hands for prayers. The cause has been abused here by crooked professors of holiness, calling their sect the Unity Band, denying the ordinances, while some of them wear gold, which the Word forbids. 1 Peter 3:3. May God bless all the dear saints. Pray for us. Your brothers under the blood,

Wm. J. Gosvener
and Peter McKinley.

LET US OBEY THE WORD.

_____

AS the King of heaven is giving marching orders to his people, I rejoice in the privilege of falling into the ranks, and lifting up my voice with praise and thanksgiving, unto Him who has redeemed my soul and body from sin, and disease, and enabled me to live in the shadow of his presence, beside the still waters and in the green pastures of his loving providence.

I am so glad to see, and hear, the manifestations of an onward move in the camp of Israel. Oh for a going forth in the attainment of all the graces which constitute the life and character of our Lord, leading into a closer communion with himself; making our conscience as tender as the apple of an eye, whereby we may receive a fullness of faith, wisdom and understanding which will make us more fruitful in righteousness to lift up those who are bowed down, and let the oppressed go free! The enemy of all good is ever active, and if if he cannot disturb the life of the soul directly, he will come with his plausible suggestions, setting forth the consistency of using certain remedies for the health of the body. There is no point, I believe, where he works so zealously as with regard to the cleansing of the blood, increasing the vitality therefrom, presenting the virtues of roots and herbs, and the like, all of which are good for those who are not on the Bible line, who have no divine physician, no other help.

While waiting upon God in secret, asking him for inspirations from above, the mind of Christ, so as to write to the edification of his children, the Holy Spirit presented the work of cleansing as comparable in the case of the sinner’s heart, and the diseased body of our mortal flesh. The sinner comes to the altar, his heart (as it were) is black with sin. He is told that he must let go of every unprofitable and evil influence, and yield himself unto God with a humble, penitent faith in Him who has promised to wash our sins away, and make us whiter than snow. He obeys, and suddenly his soul is filled with rays of heavenly light. His countenance is radiant with the joys of the redeemed. His heart is thrilled with holy impulses through the force of a new creation, and he goes forth to live and labor for Him who has died, that he might live.

In like manner the poor invalid comes weak, and trembling, with only one hope, through the fact that our great Physician has never lost a case where the conditions have been met. She has clung to her remedies to the last, but she is told that she must leave them all behind, and no longer trust in the arm of flesh, that the simplest remedy is outside the realm of complete faith in God, and that God is waiting for a complete surrender to himself, that he may have all the praise. Helpless, and undone she falls at his feet, willing to live or die at his mercy, when, Behold, his word with healing power comes down from the throne above, rebuking the destroyer, and reaching her utmost necessity. It cleanses the blood, and goes through every nerve and sinew of her being, animating the whole temple with new life and strength, while “living water” is flooding the soul. “Himself took our infirmities and bear our sicknesses.” — Matt. 8:17. “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” This is plain scripture. There have been times when I have questioned the using of simple remedies in times of ailment, and have tried the same myself, not wishing to be over zealous, an extremist, or fanatical. But God will have a “peculiar people,” and some of us have learned by experience that God is not pleased, in that it works a division in our faith, leading us to undertake what God has promised to do for us.

In settling down, immovably fixed upon His word alone, we have felt a mighty value of faith revolving in our souls, stirring its very depths with greater zeal for God, and his cause. I would not judge my brother or sister on this point. Oh no, the word says, They that measure themselves by themselves, and compare themselves among themselves are not wise. — 2 Cor. 10:12. And nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. — Phil. 3:16. But I would say to every believing disciple, Let us “go forward ” and lift up the standard of the “latter rain,” higher and higher, proving the almightiness of our God, and the completeness of an uttermost salvation. I trust, however, that those of us through whom God so wonderfully wrought his healing power in the early rays of the “evening light.” whose testimonies are going forth to the ends of the earth, with all who are strong in faith, may stand firmly upon his promises, ever teaching by example and precept, that he is our all and in all.

__________

ETERNAL PUNISHMENT.

_____

IS there a place of everlasting punishment? a place of eternal remorse and woe? is a great question and query in the minds of many restless-hearted persons who are made so by the wicked deeds of a very sinful life which justly deserves punishment. And such a class generally are trying to persuade themselves to believe that no such a place exists, and by the force of habit doubtless many are easing themselves from the awful thoughts of endless woe, and are bracing up on many and various theories of error, some of which we wish to notice.

The great cry and plea among the the infidel world, skeptics and universalists, is, that God is too good to make a man and then send him into everlasting punishment, that he could not be a just God and do thus, hence arrive at the conclusion that all will enjoy that eternal rest of bliss and happiness of a heavenly world. But not so, according to justice or God’s word or reason. Justice would give all punishment, “for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Hence the laws of logic and justice inflict punishment at once and would cut us off as unfruitful cumberers of of the ground, but God in mercy spares, peradventure all may yet turn and live.

Now we do not suppose any of the subjects upon whom capital punishment is inflicted, ever thought they ought to receive such. But as the laws of the land are established, not to change, and he is considered as knowing them, virtually inflicts upon himself this punishment in that he has transgressed the laws of the land. Nature also has its established laws and all are supposed to know, and if they go contrary to the laws which are unchangeable they must suffer the consequence and no one to blame but themselves. If you, dear reader, were to thrust your hand into the fire, you would trangress the laws of physical nature and would have to suffer for it; but those who commit sin all their lives, which is contrary to God’s laws and will and their better judgment, if they do not turn away, the solemn and awful results are surely thrusting themselves into the eternal burning, all because they transgressed God’s spiritual laws governing these matters.

O may poor souls awake to the awful fact of the case and turn before too late. Even they like the poor criminal may blame some one else, or God, yet they by careless choosing are the only party blamed. Some will say, God is too good to make a man and then damn him, and they plead that God fore-knew all things, and knew man would sin and do wickedly and then punish him for it. God never intended that man should be a sinful creature. We learn that in Noah’s time when the human family became so extensively and exceedingly sinful, that it grieved the heart of God, and he repented that he had made man.

We might speak of a son of the father in whom he has great aspiration and hopes, but if the son goes against the hopes of the father and his instructions, and commits some crime which lands him behind the bars, it doubtless grieves the father and he would rather have seen his son in the grave than in the prison; but he put himself there. So did man in the beginning, put himself a poor criminal behind the prison bars of sin, and God is grieved, and repented that he ever made man. (While we are not speaking on redemption we must not forget God’s mercy in bringing about a glorious plan of deliverance.) Paul, speaking of the intentions of God in the creation of man, says [Eph. 1:4.] that he has chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love.

God made the grandest and noblest choice for man which was purity, holiness, perfect love, etc., and never intended that man should be otherwise, and dear reader, if you are in any other condition, even to day, you come far short of the design of our great Creator. You are in an abnormal state.

Another, and the greatest of all blessings bestowed upon man was his free moral and spiritual agency to do as he chooses with respect to his own life and being. God has given all a will, either strong or weak, and it is that faculty of the mind that chooses. We are creatures of choice and all have force of character. At least enough to choose right and reject wrong. Man always has been and always will be able to do so, and each life is just what it is made to be by themselves.

One great hobby of some is that man has no power of mind or no control of thought, saying they cannot keep their mind from running in evil and dwelling on sinful suggestions of the evil, and in fact some are so-simple as to say their mind just runs at large. We feel sometimes like comparing their minds and tongues to an old clock without pendulum, that just runs wild and irregular without any restraint. Oh may such be terribly and awfully ashamed of such absurd ideas after God has given all of us will power sufficient to direct action word, thought and intention, also our entire moral and spiritual being. We cannot see why people will wilt down under the power of Satan and blame God for the same, when they are the only party to blame. We understand that God is good, (Psa. 107:1.) also that good has its opposite, and both have their paths which are just as opposite, and none can travel in both their ways at once, and their ways end just as opposite as the east is from the west. Light is pleasant to the eye. It has its opposite which is darkness. Heaven is a place where God dwells, who is good, and is a place of eternal bliss and happiness, and is the very height and summit of all good, joy and everlasting peace for all good holy people who have been walking the good way, to possess. It is the result and consequence of God’s spiritual laws obeyed, and cannot be otherwise to those who have chosen that way, and lived worthy of the same. But hell is just the opposite, the terminus of all evil, and the very depth of all misery and woe to those who have carelessly, heedlessly, knowing and willingly, walked in that way.

Oh poor sinner, halt one moment; consider your pathway; the result of sin cannot be heaven, it is impossible, but if you will travel that way, do not blame God because there is such a place, and you do and will go right on madly to the gates of death, but just say you are the one to blame and are going there, trampling on the mercies of God, treading on the mangled body of a crucified Savior who is pleading your return. But if you go on, you go a rejecter or neglecter of mercy, as an intrusion on Satan’s domains, and the demons of the infernal regions to a place prepared for the devil and his angels, and not for man. God does not desire you to go, but wishes you to go to this heaven prepared for all humanity.

Dear Editor: I am justified but not sanctified, but desire you to pray that I may be fully saved and kept by the power of God. My baby was very sick with Pneumonia, and had spasms, and Sister Sapp prayed the Lord to heal it and in a very short time it was healed. I know that it was healed by the power of God.

Your sister,

Mrs. Clara Champer.

Dear Saints: May God bless you all for Jesus’ sake. I feel led to testify through the TRUMPET, to what God has done for me. This morning he saves and sanctifies my soul, and keeps me from all sin. God has healed my body from nervousness and gives me complete victory over all trials, for which I give him all the glory forever. I cannot praise him enough for all he has done for me. I am ever determined to follow Jesus and serve him while I live, by his grace assisting me. Your saved sister,

Cora Smith.

To the Saints of God, Greeting: I am praising God to night that he has permitted me to be at home, and how can I thank him sufficiently for keeping and protecting me and returning me to my dear family, whom I found well, and to the dear saints who have shown me so much kindness? May God reward in his own way. I reached home Oct. 11th. I am still abiding under the shadow of the Almighty. Pray that I may endure unto the end. God is daily teaching me wonderful lessons and I know by his word that I am growing in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen. Your sister, saved and kept by power divine,

Almira Huston.

Dear Saints of God: I feel led of the Lord to write my testimony. Thank God, I am free from all sects and schisms, and the very God of peace sanctifies me wholly by a second work of grace, which I obtained by believing in Christ. Oh praise his holy name forever and forever! I was hungering and thirsting after righteousness, and God’s word said they who do shall be filled and I believed it. Praise his dear name forever! He sent some of his dear children to Butler to preach his gospel in all its purity. It was there, Sept. 24th, I made a full consecration to God, and presented my body a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God which was my reasonable service. Oh glory to God! He gave me a peace which passeth all understanding. He keeps me free from sin and the world, he has taken all pride and fashions, and love for things of this world out of my heart, and I am complete in him. Satan tries hard to overthrow my soul, and uses my near and dear friends as instruments, but hallelujah to Jesus, it only makes me sink deeper and deeper into God. If ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye. I ask the prayers of all God’s children. Your sister saved and sanctified,

Gussie Montgomery.

Dear Saints of God: May his blessings, grace and peace be multiplied and abound in you more and more. It occurs to me that I should praise our God by adding my testimony to the many others God has enabled his dear chosen ones to give in the GOSPEL TRUMPET. The reading of the Trumpet is a feast of good things to my soul. Praise the Lord forever! He has saved my soul and has fully sanctified and redeemed me from this evil and perverse generation. Oh praise his dear name forever, to be able to say this in spirit and in truth. I was up to four weeks ago serving as a deacon in the Baptist sect. But it was God’s purpose to permit me to hear a pure gospel preached by that dear servant of the Lord, D. S. Warner, also dear Bro. Henry and others at Butler, Pa. And haying read Bro. Warner’s tract previous to that, entitled Questions and Answers on the Church, I was abundantly enabled by the grace of God to see my whole duty regarding the matter. Praise the dear Lord! Now I stand complete in him. Oh bless God for freedom’s holy light! My dear wife and I have come out from among them, that we might not be partakers of their sins. The old stranded wreck of sectism, I can see now, why it is all going to pieces and God is judging the corrupt old thing. And I praise the dear Lord that he has enabled us to make good our escape out of Sodom ere his great and consuming wrath falls upon her for the injustices she has committed against the God of high heaven.

Oh pray for us, dear ones and daughters in Zion, that my dear wife and be kept very humble under the blood, sitting at the feet of Jesus to learn of him. Yours for the glory of Jesus,

Curtis W. Montgomery.

To all the Dear Saints in Christ Jesus: May all the powers of his divine grace ever keep us low at his feet, is my earnest prayer. We must say to the glory of God, that we were so glad to meet so many of God’s dear children at the Grand Junction C. M. It was a glorious feast to our souls. Although there was only one brother on the ground that we were personally acquainted with, but it does not take long to become acquainted with Father’s family. O hallelujah! What a feast it was to our souls! It teaches us to become more humble at Christ’s feet where we can be mose useful in his service. We left the C. M. to go to Pennsylvania and stopped off at Niagara Falls, and saw the wonderful works of God, where it speaks forth his mighty truth in thundering tones, to all the world that comes to see this wonderful work of God. We were impressed to speak about God’s covenant that he made with Noah, — Gen. 11 to 17, when we saw the beautiful rainbow in the water before us. We could see the people were seeking after pleasure more than after God. See 2 Peter 3:10, 11. What manner of persons ought you to be in all holy conversation and godliness, instead of longing after worldly pleasure to ease the concience a little. We then arrived at our old acquaintance’s whom we had not seen for 16 years. O how God’s true preachers are needed there to give these people the whole truth as it is in Christ Jesus. I truly believe there is quite a number of them that would awake to the true light of the gospel, if it were preached to them, O how I wish Bro. Warner and company would stop at Rogers Ford, Montgomery Co., Pa., and if they can not, I hope the Lord will lead some other brother there to give them the true word. Now if they will write to Bro. R. H. Keeler, at Rogers Ford, he will lodge them and get places for them to preach. At Morristown, Montgomery Co., lives Bro. Moore. If any one will write to him, he will get a place for them to preach and see that they have a place to stay. Bro. Moore will walk in the light of the gospel, if he hears it. I am happy to say we had a chance to speak at Limrick Square to a dying people that never heard of the evening light. Oh how God poured his mighty truth on us! It is four miles from Rogers Ford. I spoke in Spring City opposite Rogers Ford, to the Mennonites. O how my soul was filled with joy to see how the people received the truth! If some of God’s preachers would go there with a company filled with the Holy Ghost, I know much good would be done in the name of Christ. Your brother and sister, saved and sanctified,

J. K. Peterman and wife.
