OBITUARIES.

—:o:—

Hunnewell, Shelby Co. Mo. Feb. 18.

Dear Brethren: — It is my pleasant duty to write to you of the peaceful departure of Sister Nancy Howe. You remember this widowed sister and her two daughters in whose house you held meeting one day when you were here. These two sisters desire me to write you their mother’s death, and ask you to put some lines of poetry to the same, in the TRUMPET.

Sister Howe’s age was 66 years 9 months and 4 days. She died on the 22nd of January last. Her soul left its earthly house and went to her beautiful home, not made with hands, in Heaven. She leaves eight children to mourn her loss. But she leaves a blessed example behind for them to follow. In all meekness she walked in the steps of our Lord and Master. She had been very feeble in health for years, but always bore her afflictions in patience.

About three weeks before her departure in a bitter cold night she came out to join with the few saints here in the sacred ordinances of feet-washing, and the communion, for the last time here below.

She was converted in her early years, and about seven years ago she entered the glorious rest of entire sanctification. Since then she lived trusting in Jesus only, outside of all sects. Her house was always open for meetings of Divine worship.

She was only confined to her bed about three days before the Lord took her home. Before she closed her eyes to earth, she called those two saved children to her bed, telling them that the Lord would soon take her home, and that she had given them and all her business into His hands. She then told them to sing and pray once more with her. And she greatly rejoiced in it. She calmly went to sleep with a smile on her lips. Glory to God!

Your brother in Christ.

J. C. Myers.

Our mother has gone to the land of rest,
That beautiful home where the angels dwell:
Now safe in the bosom of Jesus, blest,
While lonely our hearts, dear mother is well.

Our hearts are clinging dear mother to thee;
Thou livest here yet in affection and love.
And memory pictures thy gentle form,
Still dwelling with us, though reigning above.

Thy virtues still shine in our saddened home,
Endearing each object thy hands have wrought:
And leaving to us the legacy pure,
Thy holy and innocent life hath bought.

O mother, dear mother we miss thee so,
Unthinking we listen to hear thee come;
But Jesus will comfort and grace bestow,
And lead us to join thee in Heaven’s bright home.

Daniel.

Atlanta, Kan.

Died: Benjamin, infant son of brother S. W. and sister M. J. Martin. Aged 8 months and 6 days. He passed away in obedience to the will of God, to dwell with Jesus forever more. Bro. and sister Martin bowed their heads in subjection to the blessed will of God, saying, Thy will be done. May God keep them blameless, ready to meet dear little Benjamin.

The funeral sermon was preached by the writer to quite an attentive congregation, promising by the grace of God they would meet Bennie in Heaven. May they keep their vow, and prepare to meet their God. Amen, and Amen.

“JESUS LOVES IT BEST.”

—:o:—

“You loved your babe so dearly,
But Jesus loves him best;
He left His throne in glory,
For his eternal rest.

He took your little darling,
To be with Him at home —
To you a gentle calling,
Dear parents all to come.

Be ready then to meet him,
The time, there’s none can tell;
For should He find you sleeping,
Then sad would be the knell.

Be ready for His coming,
Should it be morn or noon,
Be robed in white adorning,
The call may greet you soon.

And with dear little Benjamin
You shall forever be,
For of such is His Kingdom,
In meek simplicity.”

John P. Haner.

Praise ye the Lord.

—:o:—

Oh praise the Lord, and bless His cause,
And yield obedience to His laws;
His laws are good, His counsel wise,
Although He dwells beyond the skies.

Let songs of praise like them of old
Be heard to sound from pole to pole,
Till all the world with one accord
Shall shout the praises of the Lord.

Oh glorious God of endless space,
Who lives and dwells in every place;
And by Thy wisdom, power and grace,
Has made and formed the human race.

Oh send Thy Spirit from above
And fill us all with light and love,
And give us wisdom, power and skill,
To know and do Thy righteous will.

So, when the day of God shall come
For Him to take His children home,
We all shall meet in heaven above,
There to enjoy His perfect love.

AN INTERESTING LETTER.

—:o:—

OUR readers recollect that some months ago we published a petition from a lot of Methodists to the N. Y. Conference, praying to be delivered from the pastorial services of Bro. J. Lee Gamble, because he believed and preached a good deal of God’s truth, which they declared that “the preaching of these doctrines would be detrimental to the interests of this charge.”

We have prayed to God to lead that dear man out of babylon, and we rejoice to get this letter from his hand, which was sent to Bro. G. T. Clayton.

58, Harbor St. Cleveland O.
1—22, 1887.

G. T. Clayton. Dear Bro. in Christ: I have read your letter and that of brother W. J. Evans; and I write to ask if one, or both of you will be kind enough to give me information with reference to the independent anti-sectarian work in which you are engaged, and the organizations which you call Assemblies of the Church of the First-born, &c.

I ask this because I was led about one year ago to come out from all sectarianism, and have a desire to enter upon independent work of some kind, and wish all the information I can get as to how to proceed.

I was long grieved over the corruption of the proud and worldly organizations called “churches”, and often felt like cutting loose; but did not know where I should go or what to do with myself. But having taken such a stand against their practical infidelity and unscriptural practices, I was brought thereby into such conflict with them that I had nothing else to do but cut loose entirely. This I did, and found the step I had so much dreaded but led me out into a closer fellowship with my rejected Lord; and I am so glad that I am where I owe allegiance to Jesus only. Praise God forever! I am now out from the sects, and am burning the bridges behind me.

I will not weary you with a long letter, but close by saying I am wholly the Lord’s, body, soul, and spirit; Jesus is my complete Savior, giving me health for both body and soul. Praise His name forever!

I will be glad to hear all you may write about the movement in which you are engaged.

Yours in Jesus.

J. Lee Gamble.

God bless Bro. Gamble. How many dear souls in babylon see her corruption, but because of the blinding sect education they cannot see how they can work for God outside of sectarian straps and yokes. O how our soul rejoices in this glorious freedom of the anointed sons of God. We hope to hear more from our dear brother Gamble. Amen!

Daniel.

Dear Brethren: — My testimony is that I am on the way to glory. Praise the name of Jesus! I have never met with any of the saints but my dear Brother Joseph. I hope by the blessing of God that I shall be able to be at some of your meetings.

MY TESTIMONY.

—:o:—

AND He showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.” — Rev. 22:1.

“But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the Lord, and of judgment, and of might to declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.” “Hear this I pray you ye heads of the house of Jacob, and princes of the house of Israel that abhor judgment and pervert all equity; they built up Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity.” — Micah 3:8, 9, 10.

“The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have vexed the poor and needy: yea, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully.” — Eze. 22:29. “The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money; yet will they lean upon the Lord, and say, Is not the Lord among us? none evil can come upon us,” — Micah 3:11.

“Wherefore, behold I send unto you prophets and wise men and scribes; and some of them ye shall kill, and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues and persecute them from city to city, that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth.” — Matt. 23:34, 35.

“I sought for a man among them that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me, for the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found none.” “Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps.” — Eze. 22:35. Micah 3:12.

Praise our God, that the plowmen are in the field. Every particle of my being vibrates thanks and praise to Almighty God, and the Lamb forever, for sending to me “one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither, I will show unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters, with whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.” — Rev. 17:1, 2, 3.

If the sect beast had the power no doubt but he would suffer the fate of John Huss. The general council of the so called church held at Constance in the year 1414, concocted no fewer than 39 articles in which Huss is said to have erred; some of the points he denied, and others he offered to support by the Bible. But his voice was drowned by the clamors of bigotry. His hair was cut in the form of a cross; upon his head was put a paper mitre painted with the representation of three devils, and he was delivered over to the judge, who condemned both him and his writings to the flames.

A similar fate shortly after befell his disciple Jerome, who is said to have exhibited the eloquence of an Apostle, and the constancy of a martyr at the stake. Such has been the fate of many that the prince of this world had nothtng in.

O praise God for the wonderful peace and joy that thrills my whole being. I have a present experience; a continual feast, through sunshine and storm. When the storm clouds seem to be gathering fast and billows dash with vehemence across my pathway, the Holy Spirit within asserts His sway, and says to the troubled waters, “peace, be still.” Then I can mount the billows, and ride the waves with the glory in my soul. O praise God for a full and complete salvation! Christ sanctified Himself that I might be, when He entered into my mortal body. Praise His holy name for that! Your brother.

THE SPIRIT’S INDWELLING.

—o—

BRO. Warner, If we obey God in all things after we receive the power and Spirit of God, does not the power remain on us all the time just the same as it was when we received it? Three years ago next month, I was healed of bodily afflictions, of which I had suffered for 3 years and 2 months. I was converted also, and inside of four minutes I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. It remained on me two days and a half, and I discovered it was gone. I said, when I get home the room will be filled with it, and it will come back; but it did not. I prayed and read three hours, and then went to bed, thinking I would ask some one the next day. But when I awoke in the morning it was on me. It remained with me 8 or 9 days, then I lost it.”

Carrie Hitchcock.

ANSWER. I may help others young in experience to answer the above question publicly. An important point to consider in connection with this subject, is the distinction between the indwelling of the Spirit of God, and His manifestations. Many get in great trouble and temptation because they identify the Spirit of God with some one of His most powerful, or joyful manifestations. In other words, the Spirit of God conies upon us in a wonderful and powerful manner, then because they do not feel Him in the same manner of operation in the soul and body, the devil harasses them with fears that He has departed out of them. Therefore in answering the above question we draw a line of distinction between the Spirit Himself and His manifestation to our consciousness. And we answer as follows.

If we walk in obedience to God in all things, the Spirit of God will abide in us forever, as when first received. But the Spirit of God will not continue the same form and degree of manifestation and operation in us as when first received. As we walk in the high way of holiness, the baptisms of power will often exceed the first hour of our pentecost, yet at times there will be a stillness, and comparative absence of the emotional movings of the Spirit, that, were we just then to decide from our feelings, especially by contrasting them with other times, we would conclude that the Spirit of God is no more in us. But saith the Word, “That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith.” — Eph. 3:17. When our feelings are not sufficiently marked to warrant the conclusion that our body is indeed the “habitation of God through the Spirit,” that fact is still securely warranted to us by the promises of God, who “will never leave nor forsake us.” And our faith, resting firmly on the Word of God, excludes all doubts and fears and painful anxiety. And the soul rests as sweetly when all is calm within, as in the high tides of emotion and power.

“There is one Body and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling.” The Spirit of God is one. But “there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.”

Speaking of the various gifts, we read, “But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as He will.” — 1 Cor. 12:4-6, 11. Thus we see the Spirit of God is one and the same at all times, and in all saints. But His operations and administrations vastly differ in us.

What would be the result if the Spirit of God would continue the same form and degree of operation and manifestation in us as when first received. We frequently lay hands on persons for the reception of the Holy Spirit, and He comes upon them in a sudden, powerful shock, and they are instantly prostrated to the floor. Now suppose “the power would remain on them all the time just the same as when they first received it.” Why the person would be of no use to God nor man.

Last week some saints stopped with us at a brother’s house, after meeting one night, and a sister received the laying on of hands for the healing power of the Holy Spirit. The mighty power came upon her in a wonderful manner, sweeping away all her afflictions and perfectly overwhelming her mind and body. She leaped and shouted about the room, and when flying violently against the wall, she remained there in whatever atitude she chanced to be, like a snow flake alighting and sticking to the side of the wall, supported by the power of God, while the glory of God shone in her face. Of course her company had to remain about an hour before she returned to the body and could travel. Now of what use would that sister be had she remained in that condition?

We often feel the power of God upon us in such intense degree that were He to continue right on in that form of manifestation, we could do nothing but leap and shout and preach. But when there is no farther need of that mighty earthquake power, the Spirit of God calms down in our soul, and we are in that sweet and Heavenly composure of feeling that enables us to prosecute the great work of writing which God has called us unto. The fulness of God, and His mighty power is always in us, and ready in a second to spring forth into vehement action, and thrilling flashes through our consciousness. Thus God knows how to keep house in His own temples, and it is none of our business how He moves about there, and when He rests in quietness. “Know ye not that your bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit, which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?” Now if you have dedicated your body to God, to be His temple, why meddle with God’s business? Why suspect that He is not properly behaving Himself in His own house? Nay.

My feelings are given to Father’s control,
His wisdom shall govern my “body and soul.

Sister H. tells us how the Spirit left her, and that she prayed three hours for His return, but He did not do so. But the next morning as soon as she awoke behold the power of the Lord was upon her. So you see the Spirit will have His own way. Remain quiet when He will, and spring forth in power in us when He chooses.

Now the Spirit of God was in the sister all the time, and had she been established in the faith of the Gospel, she would no more have suspected the Spirit having left her, during His quiescence, than during His more vivid manifestations to her consciousness.

The promise of God is, “I will never leave nor forsake you.” The Comforter comes into us to abide, And He does also manifest Himself in us. But no one form of His manifestation is to be taken as the only test of His in being. The holy man has indeed God walking in him. He has constant fellowship with the Father and the Son, through the Spirit. But that uninterrupted enjoyment of God is by constant faith in Him, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” So the faith that Christ is in you constitutes the real Divine substance in you. So if you have a faith that Christ is in you, and yet never feel His glorious presence moving through the chambers of the soul, and even thrilling your mortal body, your faith is not genuine, you have only believed with the head, and not with the heart. But “with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

We have shown the necessity of “Christ dwelling in the heart by faith,” even when we cannot specially feel Him. But it is the great contrast in the different degrees of the movings of Christ in us, that leads persons to think they are entirely without the feeling sense of Christ’s presence. Camparing the low ebb of the emotional, with the high tide of joy and power, people sometimes think they are entirely destitute of feeling. But the fact of the matter is, the holy man or woman does possess a constant consciousness of the “Son of Peace,” within. But much or little feeling, “the just shall live by faith.” Amen!

Daniel.

BABYLON THE GREAT IS FALLEN.

—:o:—

I have seen a horrible thing in the house of Israel. — Hosea 5:10.

In the U. B. house at Pleasant Valley, Ind., on last Thanksgiving day they had a fair in the so called church house. They took wheat, oats, corn, corn-fodder, hay, straw, potatoes, apples, beans, pumpkins, turkeys, and chickens into the synagogue. And while they were praying the roosters betrayed them with a crow; and the turkeys were very uneasy, feeling they were captured, and their lives indeed in danger. They had fallen among spiritual thieves and robbers. — John 10:1. “He that entereth not by the door into the sheep-fold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.” Now these ungodly sect preachers are climbing up on straw and chaff, and on their abominable sect frolics, and carouses, which will bring eternal damnation to their souls. Jesus said unto them, “It is written. My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves” — Matt. 21:18. Sodom and Gomorrah would blush at the ungodly frolics and carousals of the devil that are carried on in the sects to-day, they have become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and the cage of every unclean and hateful bird. — Rev. 18:2. They are all burnt over with spiritual blackness: God does not dwell in them any more; this world is in a Sodom state. “For as it was in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah so shall it be in the coming of Christ.” “When they shall say peace and safely, then sudden destruction shall come upon them.” — 1 Thess. 5:3, and 2 Tim. 4:3-4. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine.” That Scripture is fulfilled, — 2: Tim. 1:2, 3, 4, 5.

“This know also that in the last days perilous times shall come; for men shall be lovers of their own selves: covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection; accusers, and, indeed they have become “fierce, despisers of those that are good,” “having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof; from such turn away.”

It is God’s eternal truth that this Scripture is fulfilled. Now God had patience and mercy until the people have become so rotten and sinful that God has given them over to their own sinful lusts of the flesh. Now God says in 2 Thess. 2:11-21, “And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie, that they all might be damned who believe not the truth.”

Rev. 18:32 — And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee, and the voice of the bride-groom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in her,” i. e., the sects of man’s organization, and so called churches of man. The ungodly sect preachers think they can organize churches, which is all a lie of satan.

Christ said, “Upon this Rock will I build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” — Matt. 16:18. “And there is one Body and one Sptrit.” And “one God and Father of all.” — Eph. 4:4, 5, 6. Not 666, who worship the beast, whose number is the number of a man. — Rev. 13:18.

The sect preachers place themselves at the head of their church. They say they open the door of the church. They take the place of Jesus Christ; for He said I am the door, and I open and no man can shut, and I shut and no man can open.”

Glory be to God! When Christ pardoned all my sins He look one into the Church: now if I should commit sin Christ would put me out, and no man can take me in. They are all blind guides, deceived of the devil — they are a mixed babylon.

Jer. 51:2-6 — I will send fanners that shall fan her, and shall empty her land.” God has also said, flee out of the midst of babylon, and deliver every man his soul.”

Jer. 3:8, — For all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery, I have put her away, and given her a bill of divorcement. When a man is divorced from his wife they are utterly separated: they have no light to dwell, or live together. Neither does God dwell any more in the sects; He has spued them out of His mouth, they have become a stink.

Isa. 50:2, — “I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stinketh because there is no water.” The water of life is dried up, and they are so destitute of the life and power of God, that they have not a coal left to warm by.

Isa. 47:14 — Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them: they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it.”

This is just where the sects have drifted to at the present time; they have no Spiritual life in them: they are utterly burned over with blackness: they are destitute of a coal, (Spiritual life,) as of the Spirit of God.

“I heard another voice from Heaven, saying, Come out of her my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” — Rev.18:4.

O how I do praise God that I have clean escaped, and obeyed the voice of God. Now God says, Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works; in the cup which she hath filled, fill to her double. Amen!

A REMARKABLE MEETING.

—:o:—

I must tell you of a wonderful meeting held at our house on the after-noon of Jan. 13, 1887. A modern Pentecost truly.

I had not attended a meeting for more than two years, on account of inability. As I heard of meetings held in town by “the saints,” I inquired of the Lord concerning them; and this is what He told me: “Arise, therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, nothing doubting; for I have sent them.” I immediately invited a meeting at our house. The people came in sleigh loads. I met them at the door — the most of them strangers — and welcomed them in the name of the Lord.

I had no sooner done this than a cloudburst of glory flooded the house. It was like the meeting of Mary and Elizabeth, and like them we were filled with the Holy Ghost. I cried out, “My soul doth magnify the Lord! and whence is this to me that not only the mother of my Lord should come to me, but the Lord Himself, in such wondrous power!”

One dear sister, of very timid and retiring disposition, had determined to say nothing, but get into a corner and keep quiet. But the moment she entered the house the power of God fell upon her, accompanied with such glory that, although she tried to carry out her resolution, it was impossible. She walked the floor praising God through nearly the entire meeting.

For more than two hours this grand glorious scene lasted. The Holy Ghost controlled the meeting, and there was no confusion. Weeping, shouting and leaping were in order. It was like the Heaven that John saw, where the angels were shouting, saying, “Amen! blessing, and glory, and thanks giving, and honor, and power, and might, be unto our God forever and ever!”

Nor was this all. Deep and thorough work was done for God and souls. The unsaved gave their hearts to God, and several presented themselves a living sacrifice, and received the witness of the Spirit that they were sanctified wholly.

The second meeting, the following week, was like unto it. More than a score of holy hands were lifted up, “without wrath and doubting.” Ere the meeting closed, every heart, and voice joined in shouts of victory for the great work wrought.

Amen, and amen.

Christian Harvester.

NOTE.

Yes it is indeed a remarkable thing, to see such a meeting as the above, reported in a babylon paper. The Harvester Editor renounces the saints of God who are complete in Christ, without sects and isms, and who do not believe in such organisms, as led of the devil. But when he gets a report of a meeting held by the power of God outside of all sect and association machinery, it is like an oasis in the desert of backslidden sectarian holiness, insomuch that the Editor gives it the caption of “A Remarkable Meeting.” We presume the good sister has known, the Harvester Editor in past years, before the loud voice from Heaven had thundered the command of God, “Come out of her my people,” in disobedience to which he, and the mass of sect adhering holiness people have lost the Holy Spirit, compromised with the sects that used to persecute them, and joined with those sects to publish the devils lies against the free saints of God that have escaped out of her. Had the Harvester Editor been near enough to God, he too would have heard God’s voice several years ago, saying, “Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them — the despised ones who have come out of her — nothing doubting. For I have sent them.” But poor little Doty thought he saw some greenbacks, silver, and gold, loaves, fishes, and all manner of animals good for meat, on the house-top of babylon, and so he was unwilling to get himself down, and go with the Lord as He moved out of babylon, so he remains in captivity until this day,

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

—:o:—

MARCH 3 we took train at home for Walkerton, St Joseph Co. Ind.. Landed at 7 in the evening. Met some friends at the depot who informed us that the rest of our little company had come that day from Beaver Dam Ind. Praise the Lord! He mustereth the host to the battle. They knew not what day we would come, nor we they, but the Lord brought us to the field of battle the same day. We walked out to dear Bro. A. C. Bardon’s one mile and a half, and found the dear little ones assembled there with the saints, praising and worshiping God. O what a blessed and Heavenly time this meeting. Glory be to Jesus! how our souls did leap to meet the blessed holy little Church, with our fellow-laborers in the Gospel and Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ. Praise the Lord! all were well and filled with faith and the Holy Spirit, ready for the battle. Here we set the battle in array last April, in a two weeks siege. Hell was moved to the bottomless pit. Babylon foamed and howled, and like the ancient pharisees stirred up the people to “shamfully entreat us is they did Paul at Phillippi. But thank God! in the fires of persecution, and storms of opposition, God saved a few souls, and these we find standing fast, and a few others the Lord has added to His own Church, who are praising God for the great salvation. Praise God! we soon found that the Gospel of Christ had grown much in the favor of the people. The Lord God of power had greatly turned the minds and hearts of the people to endorse and love the truth. Men of principle gave all to understand that if they attempted to disturb our meetings again as they had before, they must suffer the application or the law. Praise God! the people heeded the warning, and God also inclined them to give good attention. We occupied a very large hall for two weeks, and had it well filled with hearers. Multitudes were under deep conviction, but were unwilling to pay the price of real salvation. Several however were saved by the power and grace of God, converted and sanctified, and a few made their escape fully out of babylon, and were wonderfully blessed of the Lord. Were it not for shoddy holiness, and stagnant pools of sectish religion in the way of God’s salvation, a great harvest of souls could be brought to Jesus. But the awful influence of corrupt preachers in this place will have to answer for the damnation of multitudes of poor sinners, both in and out of their sect enclosures. The last two nights of our meeting there was meeting in the U. B. house in the town. Some of that sect were greatly convicted to escape out of her: but we could feel the influence of those meetings as sensibly as if the Holy Spirit were incarnate, and were being literally crucified in the town, as “Christ was crucified in the streets of the great City, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt.” — Rev. 13:8. O how sensibly we felt the “fellowship of the suffering” of Jesus Christ. While the sweet peace of God flows, a deep everlasting under-currant in our souls, we often feel the slaughter of immortal souls in the streets of babylon, until our heart sickens, and we long to leave this world, and be with Jesus. But like the Apostle, we always conclude “for us to live is Christ;” and the rescue of perishing souls from the brink of hell, fires us with a willingness to expose our soul to the hatred and jeers, the violence and murder in hearts that are drunk on the wine of beast religion. The U. B. preacher in this place whom satan used with such diligence against the work when here last year, was much tormented by our return. “The wine of the wrath of her fornication” so foamed in his heart that, we were told by good authority, he said that he wished we were stripped, tarred and feathered, and then set on fire, and added that he would like to touch the match himself. And this wretched priest of Baal professes sanctification, and frequently leads the babylon holiness band meetings. To-day we were told that he regretted much that his words came to our ears. That is like the thief that repented bitterly, not of his theft, but that he was caught in the deed.

A sister came in from the country and received full salvation. There being a Union meeting house in the community, she and others desired us to come there and preach the Gospel. We agreed to do so on Sabbath evening if the house could be obtained. She thought there would be no difficulty. But as soon as the matter became known, an M. E. local preacher of the vicinity began to rage and foam. He came to Walkerton on Saturday, and “foaming out his shame” before the people, declared that if we attempted to enter that pulpit he would “break our head,” “break our neck,” “kill us,” etc. So Methodism has come down to the spirit of murder. “But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart. “For out of the heart proceedeth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornication, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.” This man is a priest of Methodist religion, and his wrath was fired up by the rebukes of the Word of God which had hewed them in the hall. Hence this prophesy was fulfilled.

Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth. For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt-offerings. But they like men have transgressed the covenant: there have they dealt treacherously against me. Gilead is a city of them that work iniquity, and is polluted with blood. And as troops of robbers wait for a man, so the company of priests murder in the way by consent: for they commit lewdness. I have seen an horrible thing in the house of Israel: there is the whoredom of Ephraim, Israel is defiled. — Hosea 6:5-10.

“The company of priests murder in the way.” God says that “he that hateth his brother is a murderer.” While “the company of priests” have literal murder in their hearts, they do all murder souls for the sake of their sect idol. This was fulfilled here both in the heart of the U. B. priest, and the devil’s M. E. chief cook. Thus saith the prophet, “Woe is me now! for my soul is wearied because of murderers.” — Jer. 4:31. Bishop Foster speaks of his M. E. sect as follows. “O how changed! A hireling ministry will be a feeble, a timid, a truckling, a time-serving ministry without faith, endurance and holy power.” Through this corrupt ministry, “worldly fairs, festivals, concerts, nude and lewd art,” have taken the place of the class and revival meetings of the past. “O how changed!” Yes, saith the prophet:

How is the faithful city become an harlot! it was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers. Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water: thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loveth gifts and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them. Therefore saith the Lord, the Lord of hosts, the mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies. — Isa. 1:21-24.

Surely we have come to the last days. For, “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient, to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts. Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. — 2 Tim. 3:1-8.

Yea, “babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a habitation of devils, and a hold of every foul spirit, and cage of every hateful and unclean bird.”

O the rottenness, fierce hatred, and soul murdering wickedness of sect babylon. If there were only 100 professors of Christ in the United States, and they all holy men and women of God, filled with faith and the Holy Spirit, walking unto all pleasing before God, and exemplifying the pure life of Christ, before men, and this generation had never known any other kind of confessors of Christ, the masses of the people could be rapidly reached by the Gospel of Christ, and saved from sin. But the devil has got the world so piled up with corrupt, proud, filthy, sectish religionists, “professing that they know God; but in works they deny Him; being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.” — Titus 1:16.

And because God has given us an honest heart, to confess the sins of professed christendom, and show the people that Christ is not the author of this mass of spiritual whoredom, and abominable wickedness which has filled hell with lost souls, and covered the earth with blackness and infidelity, the devil howls and rages in his sectish priests, who are ready to murder us, as the Jews did Christ, Stephen, and thousands of other martyrs, who testified against them and their evil deeds. They whine and mutter at us for “running down their churches.” In the name of Christ we ask, how can anything be run down, when it has already reached the lowest point of corruption? Like boys who have slid to the bottom of the hill, the sects will have to step up a little above the corruption of the world that lieth in iniquity, before there is any danger of being “run down.” Of course some of the sects in certain places do not appear as rotten as others; this is only an appearance to better deceive souls, who could not be deceived by the grosser manifestations of fallen babylon. Therefore the best sects in appearance are the most destructive of souls in their fruits. The U. B. sect in Walkerton have adopted holiness as the best proselyting policy, because the other sects have cast out about all who profess holiness. And yet their priest who is black with the curse of God upon him, would like to set fire to us because we honestly tell just what God’s Word commands all believers i. e., “Be not unequally yoked together with unbelievers, wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate saith the Lord.” — 2 Cor. 6. As we shall have to meet the people of Walkerton and surroundings, face to face in the day of judgment, God holds us responsible to tell them that the greatest obstruction to the salvation of souls, is your shoddy sectish holiness, and your abominable worldly religion.

WORK AT HAMILTON.

—:o:—

Dear Bro. and Sister Wm. N. Smith, Sisters Davis and Donnell, and myself left home March 5th, to assist dear Bro. Palmer who had begun a meeting at Hamilton, Allegan Co. Mich. O glory to God! The Bro. was greatly comforted and rejoiced at our coming. Praise the Lord! the people seemed anxious to hear the truth, but there was no small stir about this way, soon after we began to preach the everlasting Gospel. The sectarians soon began to clamor for their sect Diannas, and cry out, great and good is our Methodist, our Presbyterian, etc.. But many whose eyes were blinded, and ears dull of hearing, began to hear and see the glorious light, and some accepted, and were set free, O glory to God! How gloriously the Lord did pour out His Spirit upon us all: the noise of shouting could be heard afar off. Success and victory attended nearly every service in the salvation of some poor souls. O how their dear faces shone with the light and glory of God, and their hearts were filled with the praises of God. O hallelujah! I love this glorious work of soul saving. Praise the Lord O my soul!

Before we came away, many who were very bitter against us and the doctrine of the Lord, became softened, and indorsed the truth, and were grieved at our departure. May God bless them and save them, for Jesus’ sake. Amen!

The dear saints of God near Diamond Springs, many of them were in attendance, and were a great help in the work, in testimony and singing. One beloved brother and sister Butler, who lived six miles from the meeting were in attendance at, I think nearly, if not every service. O may God bless them; for they spared no pains or expense, but wrought zealously in every way for the salvation of souls. They were also very kind to us, and supplied our every want, and made us comfortable. All our company of workers were full of the Spirit, and used of the Lord effectually. Sister Alice Davis and Bro. Wm. N. Smith preached with the mighty power of God, as well as His other servant. Bro. Palmer being called away soon after our coming, we were not blessed with the privilege of hearing him preach.

During the ten days we were there, about 15 souls were saved, O glory to God! Hallelujah to the Lamb!

We bade the dear ones farewell, with many tears, leaving dear Bro. Palmer to continue the meeting, and we expect to hear of many more souls being saved, as many were under conviction. May God grant it Your Bro. in the kingdom and patience of Jesus, saved, washed in the blood, sanctified wholly. Amen!

Worstville, O., Mar. 18, ’87.

Dear Brethren: — To you greeting. O praise God! we are saved and kept by the power of God, through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. We met with the saints of the Most High God, at Bro. John Kilpatrick’s, in Payne Tuesday night, and found them filled with the mighty power of God, and joyful in glory. Glory to God! we spake the Word to the people a short time in the power of the Holy Spirit, which was food to the saints. But the water of gall to the sectarian sinners; “all the mingled people.” Praise God! we took the cup at His hand, and caused them to drink. “Therefore, thus saith the Lord of hosts concerning the prophets, behold! I will feed them with worm wood, and make them drink the water of gall; for from the prophets of Jerusalem is profaneness gone forth into all the land.” — Jer. 23:15. “For thus saith the Lord God of Israel unto me, Take the wine cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations (denominations) to whom I send thee to drink it.” — Jer. 25:15. “And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad because of the Sword that I will send among them.” — 3d Vr. 16. “Then took I the cup at the Lord’s hand, and made all nations to drink unto whom the Lord had sent me,” 17 Vr., “And all the mingled people,” Vr. 20. Glory to God! “And all the kings of (rulers of, see Eze. 34:4,) the mingled people that dwell in the desert:” verse 24. “Therefore, thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, drink ye, and be drunken, and spue, and fall: (babylon is fallen, is fallen,) and rise no more because of the Sword which I will send among you.” — Vr. 27. “And it shall be if they refuse to take the cup at thine hand to drink, then shall, thou say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, ye shall certainly drink.” Praise God!

Dearly beloved: — And to the saints of God that are free from the beast. Glory to God forever and ever! Amen! and are joined to the Church, which is the Body of Christ. Hallelujah!

Now as my soul is full of victory, it’s glory, glory, every moment, by the power of our God. You dear saints in that part of God’s kingdom and vineyard, that are engaged in this holy war are not the only ones that are stirring the devil’s kingdom: for it was only on Sunday a. m. March 6th, in a meeting called “love feast,” that the devil, and his filth was stirred up in one of the grand-daughter’s houses, of the old mother Rome, namely the St. John’s M. E. sect of the colored people, in which are some that have for years been leaders of the so called Holiness Children. But glory to God! our God who is Almighty, has sent me forth by His Spirit to do His will, and as many as “do His will shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God or of myself.” “And for judgment am I come into this world, that they which see, might be made blind, and they that see not might see.” “The world cannot hate you, but me it hateth because I testify of it that the works thereof are evil;” for God has sent His Spirit into the world that the world might be reproved of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment to come, and all flesh shall see the salvation of God, if they can abide His coming. But there was to be a great falling away first, and then the Lord will suddenly come to His temple. “Know ye not that ye are the temples of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” “For God is a Spirit, and He seeketh such to worship Him, not in the mountain, nor in Jerusalem, but in Spirit and in truth. Glory to His name!

I was in Jersey City and Pamrapo until God was through with me there, and then he gave the devil power enough to hide me away in Jersey City for 30 days, that He (God) could accomplish something else. Praise His name! Hallelujah! The devil has no power except it be given him of my Father, who gets all the glory. I will let the Spirit reveal to you the hiding place the devil gave me. But these things must needs be, that offences come. But rejoice greatly, for the Jews by the high priest of the different tribes, namely, M. E. &c, by the letter, and the uncircumcised in heart will deliver yon up to the Gentiles, (the ungodly) to be put to death, and cast into prison, that ye may be tried, and ye shall have tribulation ten days.” We will praise God for more, if He desires it. Hallelujah! And in Oct. God by His Spirit sent me to this city, as I wrote about, I was stirred in the Spirit, and I found the city wholly given to idolatry, and I perceived that in all things they were too superstitious, and I found an altar with this inscription, ‘To the unknown God,’ and such drunken babylonians on the wine of her fornication: God help them. But to do His will is my meat. Glory to His name!

I will praise Him that some of His saints have been delivered from the prison houses of babylon within the last two or three months, and have been healed by the mighty power of our God. We had a meeting at sister Baker’s last night, and God did by His Spirit cast devils out, and some went home delivered from the oppression of the devil, praising God with Hallelujahs!

Enclosed find one dollar tor the TRUMPET. I will take all the subscriptions I can, and gladly send you the money. Others are thinking of sending for it, I leave it with my Father, and will praise God for this one dollar from a dear saint that has escaped the ruins of the fall of babylon. Hallelujah forever!

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

Deerfield Ind.

Dear Brethren: My testimony is that I am gloriously saved, sanctified, tried and made white in the blood of Jesus.

Well, I must give an account of our trip to Versailles O, We began to hold meetings in private houses: the first night five asked for prayers. O praise God! we continued meeting for few times with but very small room. So we entreated the Lord to open a hall, and He caused a man to let us have the use of a large hall to preach in, saying “you can have it as long as you want it, free of charge.” O glory to God and the Lamb forever! We continued our meeting about twelve days, and the result was, nine converted, two sanctified and two baptized. There were men and women at the meeting who never was known to be at meeting before in that town. One man came to the meeting who had not attended meeting for nine years, the same heard the Word, and was converted and said he was going on unto perfection. Glory to God for what He is doing for the people at that place. I rec’d a letter to-day from that town, saying, “come back immediately for there is a great work to be done.” I have been filled with the mighty power of God ever since Bro. Fisher and company were here. The devil tried hard to overcome me, but I overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and the word of my testimony: for this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Praise the Lord!

“Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.”

GOSPEL TRUMPET: — We opened meeting in the rink in this place on the night of the 9th of Mar., in the name of Jesus.

The mass of the people are fortified against me before I reach a place, because of my being a “comeouter.” God being my helper, they are to receive the truth which will make them mad or glad. Only one sanctified man in the town. Professors are dead.

I am in need of a singer to travel with me — a young single man prefered, as that is my condition. If the eye of such should meet this, write me to the address above. Sanctified now.

Atlanta Kan., Mar. 9.

Dearly beloved Brethren: — May the dear Lord bless you, one an all. Praise God from whom all blessings flow! The mighty power of God has been manifest here; many souls washed in the blood, made white, and are being tried. When we came here, prejudice was great. Several babylon priests had filled the minds of the people with babylon lies, but we came in the name of Jesus, with the Spirit of God leading, and praise the Lord! victory is on the side of the Lord. Hallelujah! We preached five times in Atlanta, and the Lord was with us, and three claimed sanctification. We then moved the meeting three miles north of town, to the Zion S. H.. While we were in town the pastor of M. E sect was gloriously sanctified, and is now in the clear, light. He left babylon, was ordained and baptized, and is going where the Lord leads. The meeting continued over two weeks in mighty power. Prejudice was very great. The truth will cut its way through. Hallelujah! Babylon is completely destroyed at Zion. About twenty sanctified, others reclaimed and brought out in the clear light, and are free from babylon. Hallelujah! Amen! God has quite a body here, about 25 in number, walking in the light. Four elders ordained and the work moves on in mighty power. There were quite a number convicted, but would not yield, there is not any left to advocate the cause of babylon; this whole country is taken for Jesus. Hallelujah! We went to the water last Sabbath and twelve were buried with Christ in baptism and washed off all the babylon dust. There is about eight more to be baptized yet. Bro. Haynes will attend to that next Sabbath. The meeting closed last night at the S. H..

The Lord willing we will start to-morrow from here to Anthony, Harper Co. Kan. Pray for us ye saints of God.

Your Bro’s free indeed, saved and built in the Church of the First-born. Hallelujah!

Earlton Kan. Mar. 14

Dearly beloved: — May God’s richest blessings rest upon you. We closed meeting two miles South of Earlton last night, (the 13th) and victory has crowned the effort. Three converted and five sanctified. Glory to God! We had an ordinance meeting last night in obedience to the command of our Lord. I have witnessed many good meetings in my life, but O glory to God, I never was in such a meeting in all the days of my life. Oh how the mighty power of God was manifested. Just as soon as we laid aside our garments and began to wash one anothers feet, the Holy Ghost came down. O hallelujah to God! how He did flood our souls with joy. Glory to God! While we were obeying God in this ordinance of the Church, two precious souls completed their consecration to God, and received the blessing of entire sanctification. Praise the name of our God! Sinners wept, saying they wanted salvation. Bro. Single and Bro. Geo. Houghton were with me in the meeting. They are blessed men and mighty in the Scripture. Glory to God! Pray for us. Your free Bro. on the forward march.

Dear Brethren: — John B. Slagle, a servant of Jesus Christ, to the strangers (in the flesh) scattered throughout the world, “Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ; Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to His abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in Heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” — 1 Peter 1:2-5.

Jan. 26 God led me to Chanute. I met a few of the saints that night and had a glorious meeting at sister Sweeney’s. On the 28th I was led to Bro. J. H. Orr’s, five miles south, and the Lord opened up the way for meeting in Turkey Creek School- house where we are still in the war against sin. Glory to God! Bro’s J. P. Haner and J. H. Orr are with me, and doing blessed work for God. Bro. J. Cole was with us a few days and preached the Word, but went yesterday to Mo.. May God bless him and use him to His glory. God has wonderfully used him here in Kan. in “setting things in order,” and edifying the “Church, the Body of Christ.” Praise the Lord! The Church of God is in good condition here, baptized into the one body by the one Spirit. Hallelujah! My poor soul has been longing for several years to have the light that I now have on God’s true Church. I have been wanting to be on the real apostolic Bible line, and glory to God we are getting there. My faith claims a wonderful harvest of souls in this part of the country in God’s time. O how I do love God’s true children. God bless them every where. God is teaching me wonderful lessons. Praise His name! I am, by God’s grace, receiving the Spiritual gifts promised in His Word, that I may “excel (my former experience) to the edifying of the Church.” God says, “Follow after charity and DESIRE spiritual gifts.” 1 Cor. 14:1. Now if we DESIRE them, we have Jesus’ promise “What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye recieve them, and ye shall have them.” — Mark 11:24. Glory to God for His eternal SHALLS. “For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him amen, unto the glory of God by us.” — 2 Cor. 1:20. God is not slack concerning His promises. — 2 Pet. 3:9.

Closed meeting at Turkey Creek school- house Feb. 4. God called me home, wife sent me word that she and sister Sallie Rogers and my father had been arrested for testifying for Jesus in a U. B. sect meeting. Trial will be Feb. 12, will report proceedings of trial if God wills. Praise the Lord! Pray for us here dear saints. You know John says he was in the isle of Patmos for the Word of God and the testimony of Jesus. Bless the Lord! We are following Jesus and His disciples. Sanctified wholly.

Dear Brethren preserved and faithful in Christ Jesus: — Let the saints be joyful in glory. Let all the redeemed join in the mighty acclaim to praise the Lord for the onward tread of the glorious work in these last days.

The meeting at Gosford closed with victory on the Lord’s side. Though they closed the hall, we went to private houses, and on Friday evening we were to hold an ordinance meeting in sister Bryson’s house; but about two hours before meeting time, they recieved a notice from their landlord not to allow us to hold the meeting in the house. But praise the Lord who maketh all things work together for good. He overruled it for His glory. So we went to the School-house. Two Winebrenarian preachers had come to try to save their little flock, and they had meeting in the hall and thus attracted the baser sort. Thus we were permitted to have a good ordinance meeting without being disturbed. The rulers took counsel together to close the school-house, and the store-keeper mounted his horse and rode to the country to see one of the directors, but did not succeed. Mr. Snyder received a notice from his employer not to open the school- house, nor allow us to, or he would prosecute us, though we had secured the use of it legally. All their efforts failed, and the house was still opened, and eager anxious souls crowded to hear the Word and flocked to the altar night after night.

Their last fruitless effort was that of threatening to have us arrested if we would baptize on the premises of W. W. Atcheson, and as he owned several hundred acres, we had to go over a mile up the creek, and it overflowing its banks, we found a good place and the mighty power of God attended the occasion. Fourteen consecrated during the meetings, and others escaped from babylon. The last night was a glorious triumph. Hallelujah!

Yours in the faith.

O praise the Lord for salvation full and free! “For whomsoever the Son maketh free is free indeed.” Before I heard this oneness in Christ Jesus preached, and the one Church, it was my desire to live a true Christian. I heard Bro. Key was preaching this oneness in Christ, and it was my privilege to go and hear the so called new doctrine preached. After a few saints testified I felt it my duty to testify; and after the congregation was dismissed Bro. Key came to me and said I needed sanctification. This seemed to be a new doctrine, as it was very seldom preached in the sects. Bro. Key and a few of the saints came to our house, and we had a glorious meeting, for the power of God was with us. Praise the Lord! I realized what sanctification was, and since that time I have seen many saved and sanctified. And the work is still going on, and souls being added to the Church, such as are being saved. I praise God for getting me free from sect bondage, although it has been some time since I belonged to a sect, but my desire was to go with the U. B. sect. When I heard of the One Church and the One way, I received it with gladness. O I do praise God that I am in the true Church of God, and am redeemed, saved and sanctified.

Your sister in Christ.

Dear Brethren: — My testimony is that I am saved from all sin, and redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus, and filled with the power of God. How wonderful is the love of God that found out me. It was the love of Jesus that overcame and won my heart. I am so thankful that God ever called after me, and has given me His wonderful salvation. A long time I wandered in darkness, but when I felt the touch of Jesus’ love I came prostrate at His feet, and He gave me salvation full and complete. Hallelujah to Jesus! I am redeemed from this world, and the things of the world. I am cleansed, purified, and made white and tried, and have perfect victory in my soul. Glory to God for this wonderful salvation! We are having a wonderful time here; the devil is fleeing for refuge, for God is throwing down his foundation, and his kingdom can’t stand. Hallelujah to Jesus forever and ever!

I feel led of the Lord to write my testimony to all the TRUMPET readers. Now may the God of peace and all joy bless the TRUMPET workers and all the TRUMPET readers with all joy and peace and victory in the power of the Holy Spirit, is the prayer of your saved sister in Jesus.

O hallelujah to God and the Lamb forever and ever! My testimony is that I am well and sweetly saved, both soul and body; and kept by the power of God each day and moment. O hallelujah! my soul is just leaping and bounding with the glory of God. O it is wonderful, and marvelous what the Lord is doing for me. He has indeed made me a wonder unto many; but through God alone the great and marvelous change is wrought. In God alone I trust, I take Him for my salvation and my great Physician: to Him I give all praise and glory forever and ever! Amen!

Since my last testimony we have seen, and passed through some wonderful scenes; but our God who has promised that not a hair should fall from our heads without His notice, has brought us safely through with perfect victory in our souls. O hallelujah! we just leap and shout, and praise God through it all. O it is wonderful! I am a wonder to myself, what God has made of me. He keeps this body which is His temple in perfect health, without a pain. O I praise God for it all. We have meeting day and night, only as we travel from place to place. The Lord helps me to ride forty and fifty miles in a day in a lumber wagon with perfect ease. One of our trips we made in a sled, and before we reached the end of our journey the Lord showed His salvation and His glory in our souls by permitting us to be upset into the snow. O hallelujah! We all got up shouting and praising God. A man and woman drove round; they stopped to see if any one was hurt. When they saw the joy and glory in our souls they drove to the first house to tell the wonderful scene. Hallelujah! It is wonderful indeed. The very narrowness of this way is glorious and sweet to my soul. I am filled with the power and the glory of God. I am reigning with one Christ Jesus, above this world of sin, ready for the coming of Christ. I am saved and sanctified, under the blood.

Your saved sister.

Dear Brethren: — I wish to bear witness with the rest of God’s dear children that I believe in one faith; one Lord; and one Church. (Col. 2:9, 10.) Christ’s body is the Church, which is composed of all who are saved, washed and redeemed by the blood of the Lord Jesus; such as are pure as He is pure, and are kept blameless by the power of God.

We united with the U. B. sect and endeavored to break the bread of life, but by carefully studying God’s Word, I heart many things preached and taught that was not in harmony with the Word, and I severed myself from such church connection for this reason: I considered it wrong to help to divide our Lord’s body into 666 disgraceful rival factions. Our Master prayed that His disciples might be one even as He and the Father are one. (or one Church) And there shall be a remnant that have come up through great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Dear saints I, in the name of Jesus, am in fellowship with those peculiar people of God that belong to the Body, and Christ the head of the Body; for in Him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.

I am saved by the blood of the Lamb, and sanctified, and know that the Lord will keep that which I have committed to Him against that day.

Your Bro. saved by the blood.

Dear Brethren: — I am impressed by the Holy Spirit to testify for Jesus. His blood cleanses me from all sin just now. Praise God forever for victory! I am not beyond temptation, but Glory be to Jesus! He will not permit us to be tempted more than we are able to bear. I do praise God for freedom in Christ. Your Bro. saved and sanctified.

Praise the Lord! I am saved by the blood of the Lamb. Praise the Living God for all His benefits to me; for saving my soul, and for giving me the light to see that the sect that I belonged to was twice dead and worse than plucked up by the roots. Its name is German Reform. I have left them for to stay. Hallelujah! Praise the Lord O my soul! Amen!

I raise God for full and free salvation and victory over the devil. This morning every thing is on the altar for Jesus. I feel the glory of God all through my soul. Praise His holy name! By the grace of God I will let my light shine before the world. I am washed in the blood of the Lamb, all sold out to the Lord, willing to do any thing the Lord makes known to me. I can say to the glory of God that I am saved and sanctified just now. Pray for me that I prove faithful to the grace already given me.

Your sister in Christ.

Dearly Beloved: — God bless you. I hope the Lord will send you out here, may God speed the time when we will meet face to face, and stand shoulder to shoulder in the grand and glorious war between light and darkness, and blow the old Gospel Trumpet together. Amen! I praise God for the glorious news received in your message, of the glorious work moving, and souls being saved. Bless His name! the work moves on in spite of sect priests and their hypocritical army. Hallelujah! God is in the fight. Bless His name! I love the thickest of the fight. This war is all my soul’s delight. O my Bro., I am getting stronger in the Lord, more and more settled down on the Word. Hallelujah! His Word is true. Amen! and Amen!

Praise the Lord forever! I am saved and sanctified through the blood of Jesus and kept by His mighty power. I praise God for salvation that saves us from all sin. I am saved from babylon creeds and straps, and am standing on the glassy seat and have got the harp of God. Praise His holy name forever and ever! O I do thank God for what He is doing in this part of the country. I met with the saints at sister Sarah J. Sticks yesterday. The Lord was with us in mighty power. Five came to the altar, four claimed pardon. Praise the Lord for salvation! After meeting we went to the river and six were buried with Christ by baptism. One of that number was my little daughter Della, thirteen years of age. O I do thank God for what He is doing for me and ray family. Amen!

I do praise the Lord for salvation that saves me just now. He saves me all the time, and sanctifies me. I am only thirteen years old, but I can praise the Lord for salvation just the same as older ones can. Pray for me that I may hold out faithful. Your little sister in Christ.

Dearly Beloved Brethren: — We had a glorious prayer meeting, God surely blest the meeting. I never was happier in my life. There was such a glorious outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Bro. Schoolcraft set out an altar and four came to the altar, and there were others that felt like coming. The house was pretty well filled. Many said it was the best prayer meeting they ever was at in their lives. Glory to God! I could stay in such a meeting all night, and time would not seem long. O bless the Lord forevermore! I have seen more genuine happiness in serving the Lord in the last two weeks than I ever saw before in all my life. I am so thankful to my Heavenly Father for sending the dear brethren here to show us the clear light of God as it was taught when Christ was here on earth. O glory to God! may this blessed sanctification be spread through the whole world. I feel that I gain more strength day by day. God has planted my feet on the Rock, Christ Jesus. I know He lives in me and I in Him. Glory to Jesus forevermore! My daily prayer is that this good work will go on till all the people are saved and sanctified, and made whole in the blood of the Lamb that purifies and cleanses from all unrighteousness. May God bless us all and keep us fully saved in Jesus. Your loving Bro. in Christ. Amen!

A. J. Snyder.
