REDEMPTION.
By May Smith.
Take this vessel now and fill it,
Full of mercy, love and peace,
I believe the promise written,
But my feeble faith increace.
Chorus. — Glory, Glory, how I love
Thee, Glory, Glory, to the Lamb,
O to serve Thee Thou hast bought me.
Glory Glory to the Lamb.
O to Thee I now am looking,
For the fullness of Thy love.
At the fountain I am drinking,
Streams of glory from above.
At my heart I feel Thee knocking.
And I hear Thy gentle call.
Down the precipice, now trusting.
At Thy bidding: Lord I fall.
Now my Jesus bears me gently,
In the bosom of His love,
Far above the world’s commotion,
To the blissful scenes above.
Fully trusting blessed Jesus,
Thou dost keep me from all sin.
Sweetly resting on Thy promise,
Thou art reigning Lord within.

Come to Jesus.
BY NELLIE KNOWLES.
O sinner stand not idle by,
But come to Christ and live.
O come, to Him before you die;
He will your sins forgive.
You know not when your hour will come,
But sure the end is near;
O he prepared to meet your God,
For soon the trump you’l hear.
There are no joys to be compared,
With those salvation give.
Through Christ we are indeed prepared,
In joys of heaven to live.
Then come to Christ and save your soul,
He’ll give you perfect love.
Yes Jesus’ blood will make you whole,
Fit for angel’s home above.

A Solemn Christ-Service.
THE article of Bro. Joseph in the last issue on the “Spirit of Truth and the Spirit of Error,” was seasonable, but we both felt that it fell short of its full force by not giving the names of some that it was designed to describe and rebuke. The Apostle Paul, when describing, and reproving certain who, “concerning the truth, had erred,” and “whose words eat as doth a canker,” does not leave his readers to conjecture as to who he means, but said plainly, “of whom is Hymeneus and Phyletus. — 2 Tim. 2: 17, While it is a solemn duty and service to Christ, to renounce all wrong spirits for the sake of His cause, it is sweet and blessed to know that our heart is pure, and free from all personal and selfish motives, and that we are only actuated by the principle of true love to God and to our fellow creatures, in naming out such as are deceived by the devil. Sect devotees are ever eager to hold up, as the pretended fruits of coming out of their ”cages of unclean and hateful birds,” all who fall away from the true Spirit of God, outside of their walls. But while all sects are habitations of devils, and no man can be on fellowship with her, without being devil tainted; and her whole influence is to deceive and destroy souls, we freely admit that it is not impossible for men to be deceived, and fall into snares of satan outside of her, by not abiding in Christ. And when any are thus overthrown, we are in a measure responsible for the harm sectarians make of such, against the truth, unless we cut off the occation, by acknowledgeing their true condition, and the fact of their not having fellowship with the free saints of God. Not only are we under obligations to God to thus, protect His cause from the influence of such, who profess to represent His truth, and are not of His Spirit, but with many this is the only effectual means of restoring their souls to the true Spirit of Christ. Therefore in all true fidelity to: God, we humbly inform our readers, that our brother Joseph, in speaking of men who were anti-christ, in the opposition to His solemn, ordinances, alluded to such men as L. H. Johnson, A. M. Raper, and such as co operate with them, in opposing the truth as it is in Christ Jesus. Prominent among others who have departed from the Living God, and become possessed with an “evil surmising,” jealous hearted, grumbling spirit, well described in Isaia 29:20, 31, is T. H. Low, of Haw Patch, Ind.
This personation is a painful and solemn duty. In time past, we have had the utmost confidence and fellowship with him, and our heart longs for his restoration to the fellowship of the Spirit,” in Christ, and the deliverance of all that have imbibed his pernicious spirit, and have therby been corrupted. “We shall be happy to publish the recovery of any one that we have been lead to publicly disown, whenever the fruits, show a recovery from the deceptions of the devil,

So far as Bro. D. has made up for what was doubtless my duty, in connection with our article in last TRUMPET, we accept, and say amen to it. But other names were before our mind when we wrote that article, besides those he has spoken of. One of whom I am specially impressed with the duty to mention, as having “departed from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils,” and that is W. W. Roberts of Iowa. Having met him and read his spirit, we know whereof we affirm. He has sold his soul to the devil for the sake of fellowshiping anti-christ spirits, and that for filthy luker’s sake. Having received a donation from some of these evil workers, he has fellowihipped them, and drank in the spirit of anti-christ, is filled with the latter-day delusion of the devil. A “spirit of slumber, and eyes that cannot ceace from sin: beguiling unstable souls; an heart they have exercised with covetous practices.” All the really spiritual had no fellowship with him, when I was there, and I pray God that all the little ones may shun such that ye be not tainted with these spirits of devils. In the name of Jesus we warn you.

Still the Lord is Moving.
Pittsburg Pa. Dec, 25. Dear Brethren: — I will be one of five hundred saints that will give five dollars, each to raise a fund of $500. to dear the Trumpet Office of debt, and print tracts etc. So here is my $5.00 this Christmas day for the Lord. And now permit me to call for the other 99 men, through the Trumpet. May there be a rapid response, that the glorious white ship may rise up, let out all its line, and sail off; using all its sharp tools, and iron rods. May God add His blessing. Praise His name; He is God, and besides Him there is none other. The Lord loves a cheerful giver. This is the first five dollars I have had an oppertunity to make since the Camp Meeting at Sandy Lake in Aug. The first fruits are the Lord’s. We have precious little meetings at our house, every Lord’s day, since we were at the Camp Meeting and got full salvation. Your Brother in Christ.
A. B. Gildersleeve.
—:o:—
Praise God, who worketh all things after the council of His own will. We see that the same God that moved Bro. Goon in western Mich., has moved Bro. Gilder-sleeve in Pittsburg. The former the Lord has moved to rally those that can give the amount he specifies, the latter, calls for the $5.00 brethren and sisters. The Lord bless them all, with willing hearts and hands. We propose that the latter one hundred,’ have the same time to pay that brother Coon appointed m his call, i.e., Feb.; 15, 1885. The above proposition came to this office just when Bro. Coon’s call was in type, so neither knew of the others movement in the matter. Quite a number have already responded to the former call. And we; trust the Lord will stir up many of the saints to rally under both propositions. Remember the one in last TRUMPET was to pay $1.00 in advance with, a donation of 35 or 50 cents added.

ON SANCTIFICATION.
IN an old number of the Church Advocate a preacher asks light on the above subject. He confesses that “Thousands of us are yet in the dark on that all important topic.” Sad indeed, but true: O that these thousands that have no deffinite experimental knowledge of entire sanctification, would so “turn Lo the Lord that the vail might be taken from their hearts” that with open face they might behold in the glass of truth the glory of the Lord, and be changed into the immage of God, from the glory of justification, to the glory of entire sanctification. — 2 Cor. 3:16—18.
The Bro. cites 1 John 3:7, “He that doeth righteousnes is righteous eyen as He is righteous.” Precious truth in harmony with the 3d verse. He that is made “pure as He is pure,” can “walk even as He walked.” — 1 John 3:6. These Scriptures are fulfiled in the higher state of grace.
Again the brother referes us to 1 John 3:8—9 “He that committeth sin is of the devil:***whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin, for His seed remaineth in him and he can not sin because he is born of God,” then asks the question, “When is the sinner born of God? Is it when he is converted, when he knows and feels in his inmost soul that he is a child of God?” Answer, Yes all this belongs to the first work of grace. We are often charged with lowering the standard of justification. But holiness workers are the first teachers I have met with who hold up a sinless life as the only standard and lest of regeneration, and boldly declare that he that committeth sin is not born of God, but is of the devil. Some suppose that the second work makes two parts of regeneration. This is a mistake. Entire sanctification is a distinct work from, and beyond regeneration, and must be entered by experience, before known, just as the former.
A blind man knows as much of colors as a person knows of the first or second work of grace, until experienced.
Some think they must surely have passed through this experience because they have had joyful refreshings from the Lord, but this is no evidence: such blessings often occur to the faithful christian before, and more frequently after sanctification. No particular ecstacy makes the second work, but the distinct experience of perfect purity: an entire change of moral nature, known not only by the death and resurrection we pass through, but by the wonderful faith and deadness to sin, the power to “rejoice in Tribulation,” and be exceeding glad, and happy when persecuted, and feel no resentment under the most trying and unexpected abase or wrong. Please just note down that all teachers of perfect holiness attribute as much to regeneration as any one else, i.e., pardon of all actual sins — removal of all guilt or condemnation — adoption, witness of the Spirit to sonship and heirship, spiritual life and a new nature, containing all the christian graces. This new being is enthroned in the heart, and subjugates our fallen nature, so that we sin not.
Then, beyond all this, entire sanctification which removes the old nature which was born in us, sujugated in the first grace, and utterly destroyed in the second work of grace, of entire sanctification.
Daniel.
THE DIVINE BOND.
There is a bond which binds all christain hearts together. It is love, not human but Divine. None but the blood washed, the cleansed, the sanctified, have the fullness of this love, one for another. These wherever yon find them, regardless of human creeds, “speak the same things,” are “perfectly joined together in the same mind.” 1 Cor, 1-10. Those who have the “carnal nature” “purged” out, are “tempered together,” “compacted” “knit together in love,” “perfect in love.” “Booted and grounded in love.” This is the Christain bond which unites the bride: (church), to Christ.
SEL.
Take up the Stumbling Blocks
By R W. Lyman
The body of Christ is rent asunder, torn and mangled by intestine beligerency. It may be said in relation to this matter, by God, as by Jeremiah, he said of an abomination of his day, “My people love to have it so.” It is said there are 666 fragments claiming to be portions of that body. In these fragmentary parts, as being organizations made up of individuals, as they are, many of God’s people are found, having of their own choice, connected themselves with such bodies. Such kind of division is sanctioned, contenanced, and participated in, by some of the most able men on the face of the earth, and that too while in theory they condemn such doing. Witness Philip Schaff, a theologian of great learning and reputed, piety. He says that” By excommunicating each other the churches do cruel injustice to their common Lord and His followers”; “They contract his kingdom and his power; they lower him from His kingly throne to the headship of a sect or party or school”. “How the christians hate and denounce and devour one another, is only too often the well-founded charge of modern infidels”. “Denominationalism or confessionalism has no doubt its evils and dangers, and is apt to breed narrowness, bigotry and uncharitableness.” “It is not the best state of the church.”
“It will ultimately pass away in its present shape and give place to a better state, when christians shall no more be divided by human designations and distinctions, but be perfectly united in the great Head”. “He will not ask us, on the day of reckoning to what denomination we belong, to what creed we subscribe, what are our preferences for this or that form of church polity or mode of worship, but simply, ‘Lovest thou met’ ” The Lord will in His own good time bring cosmos out of chaos and overrule the discord of Christendom for the deepest concord.” “Living faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior is enough to make one a Christian.” “Peter’s, creed consisted only in one article ‘We believe that thou art the Christ the Son of the living God.’ The creed of Thomas was still shorter; ‘My Lord and my God.” And Paul required no more of the jailor at Philippi, as a condition of baptism and salvation, than that he should ‘believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.’ “
”If then, Christian union exists as a most real and powerful fact beneath and behind ail differences and varieties of doctrine, polity and worship, why should it not be manifested and strengthened on every proper occasion? Not only as a demonstration against superstition and unbelief, not only as a means to an end, but even more for its own sake, as a thing desirable in itself. The cultivation of fraternal fellowship is essential to the nature of Christianity as a religion of love to God and man, and is a precious privilege as well as a sacred duty.” “If these and other forms of exclusiveness were removed, the Evangelical Alliance might be extended into a Christian Alliance, and present a spectacle which angel would delight to behold, anticipating that higher and holier alliance in heaven,
Where saint of all ages in harmony meet,
Their Savior and brethren transported to greet.”
What has Brother Shaff said so far? Let us recapitulate.
- Churches excommunicate each other.
- They contract the Lord’s kingdom, and His power.
- They lower Him to the headship of a sect or party or school.
- Infidels have a well founded charge expressed in the words they are supposed to use, behold “how these christians hate, denounce and devour one another.”
- Denominationalism is APT to brede narrowness, bigotry and uncharitableness.
- It is not the best state of the church.
- It will ultimately give place to a better state.
- The great Head will not ask to what creed we subscribe, on the day of reconing.
- But simply ”Lovest thou me.”
- 10. The Lord will bring cosmos — order — out of chaos — sect confusion. —
- Living faith in Jesus is sufficient to make one a christian.
- Christian union should be manifested.
- Manifested as desirable in itself.
- 14. The existence of fraternal fellowship is essential to the nature of Christianity.
- If these forms of selfishness were removed the evangelical alliance might be a christian alliance, anticipating the alliance of heaven.
Upon such testimony and evidence, it would seem that any intelligent Christian judge would consign denominationalism to the regions of infamy. It is a system of organized division. Notwithstanding all this iniquity of the system, and the further fact that it totally, abrogates God’s law which commands, “all called to be saints.” “Receive ye one another, as Christ also received us, to the glory of God.” I say in the face of all this, Bro. Shaff says “Christian unity underlies all denominational diversity, and is consistant therewith.” That is, division is consistant with unity, and unity is also a correlitive of exclusiveness. Denominationalists, as such, organize out of Christ. Their organization is, in the fact of its existence, an antagonism as against the idea, and the fact of being in Christ 1 Cor. 1:10 ‘Now I beseech you brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ***that there be no divisions among you.” 3:3, Whereas there is among you, envying, and strife and division, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 13:25, ”That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.” We quote further from our anther. After speaking of denominationalism as being apt to breed moral vipers, and naming three of them, vis. narrowness, bigotry, and uncharitableness, of which he might, in truth, have said that they were the legitimate progeny; he proceeds thus. ”But the worst, we can say of it is that in the present state of Christendom it is a necessary evil, and is overruled by God for the multiplication of regenerating and converting agencies.” The word necessary is made emphatic by him. Analogous to such reasoning would it be, to claim there existed a necessity to trample upon the law of the Sabbath, being assured that God would overrule such violation for good. “Do evil that good may come.” Division or schism in the Church of Christ is certainly as clearly fobidden, as is Sabbath desecration.
“We do not wish the Episcopalian to become a Presbyterian or Congregationalist,” no NO, certainly not. But we do want that he, with all his co-schismatists, of every name, should drop out of their God dishonoring schismatic bodies, back into the Church to which the “Lord added” them at the time of their espousal, and labor only in that organization of the Christian brotherhood, formed by the Spirit. It is the extreme of folley to suppose that this world shall be subjugated to our Immanuel, so long as his militant forces are divided and have their intestine wars, as they now do.

Latest Reports from the Field.
DEAR Bros. J. Cole, and Freddie Jacobson went from here Jan. 10, to Dimondale Mich. Monday, the 12th, the former writes: “Johnson of the Stumbling Stone, and Scott, the Mormon Elder, here in debate. Scott holds to the sect, Johnson stumbling over every thing good and bad, opposes the ordinances of Christ; claims nothing but the Spirit, but is destitute of that; is one of the devil’s deceivers. Some of His followers are already possessed with devils as will as himself. They are as hard to reach as old spiritualists. Scott believes in the hook of Mormon; is a shrude agent of the devil. I have just learned that Johnson and his Ohio outfit left on the train for home. The people mostly consider Johnson beat. We are moving on in private houses as the Lord opens the way. Tell the saints to pray for us. Bro. Jacobson says, “I am saved and have victory in my soul.” ”
LATER.
Bro. Jacobson writes Jan. 22. “Dear Brethren in the Lord, God bless you with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. I am saved and wholly sanctified! Glory to Jesus! God is moving: hearts are yielding to His mighty power. Thus far 7 have been converted and 3 sanctified, and 3 cases of healing. Others under conviction. Hallelujah! Yesterday four were gloriouly converted. Houses are being opened for meetings. Pray for us, that we may witness still greater out-pourings of the Holy Spirit. Amen! Elder Scott came to the meeting last evening, and advanced some of his abominable heresy. But Christ prevails. Hallelujah!”
—:o:—
The same day the above brethren left, Bro. and Sister Fisher left for Jerry City Wood Co. Ohio. Jan. 15 received a letter, “Hallelujah to God, for the mighty slaying power ! Yesterday, men and women laid like dead on the floor. The altar was full of sinners and believers. 5 or 6 sinners converted, and some believers sanctified, and a general straightening up among the saints; the last taint of the Stock well devil being rooted out entirely. Hallelujah to God!

Jerry City O., Jan 19.
We praise the Lord for the victory just now. Hallelujah! The Lord is working, and souls are being saved. Praise the Lord!
Later.
Jerry City O., Jan. 21.
God bless you all! We praise the Lord for continued victory in our soul, and for the salvation of souls. Hallelujah! We have awful crowds at our meetings, good order. The power of God is with us. We expect to remain here some time yet, at least over next Lord’s day. We paaise God for the work of salvation going on at home.
Joseph.
Still Later.
Jerry City O., Jan. 22.
Dear Brethren: – The mighty arm of the Lord, hath again been revealed in a powerful manner, and we triumph once more over all our foes. Hallelujah to God, and the lamb forever! O my soul is full; I am filled with the fire of the Holy Ghost till I am like a flame. God’s power increases in me each day. Oh how He has manifested Himself in our midst since we came here. The Brethren have all been ”renewed in the inner man, and the Spirit of there minds.’’ And are delivered from all errors, propagated by the Stockwell heresy. Oh how the Lord does fill their hearts they praise Him continualy.
Dear Brother Willson from Custar, and a dear Bro. Kiff and family, from Weston, were here. The Brethren are both ministers. Bro. Wilson, the Lord led out of the U. B. sect some time ago. The other Bro. is a minister of the Christian Union sect, but has declared his intention of becoming a free man, and taking the world for his circuit; all of them was greatly blessed, and baptized by the Holy Ghost, while here. We have been laboring here about ten days since which time there has been about 15 converted and as many sanctified. The evening meetings are well attended, insomuch that there is but little or no chance for alter work, but the Spirit of the Lord is present to save them all. Pray for us that the work may continue.
Joseph.
From Van Buren Co. Mich.
Bro A. H. Coon writes, Jan. 17.
“We are all well, still trusting in God, saved and sanctified. We were at Covert over last Saturday and Sabbath. There were over 300 people assembled there to hear the Word of the Lord. A great interest was manifest. At the ordinance meeting Sabbath evening, over 100 of the saints took part in the solemn services. The work of salvation is still going on here. Brothers Michaels and Speck are to be at Covert Van Buren Co. today and to-morrow.”

From Pittsburg Again.
JAN. 18 ’85
DEAR BETHREN: I wish the readers of the Trumpet to know that when I made my proposition to the saints, for raising $ 500. for the Trumpet, I knew nothing of Brother Coon’s proposition. How it is evident that the Lord would have us work together in this matter I find the harvest indeed is great but the laborers are few. The people everywhere, in and out of the sects are looking and longing for a more genuine religion, than that taught from the present day pulpits, put they are looking for it in the so called churches.
The Lord is preparing the world for a season of refreshing, but it will not come in the sects or present “denominations.” The spiritual desolation will not improve till the people are humbled enough to be willing to receive Christ outside of the ‘‘Pompous empty fraud,” of cushioned pews and pride.
Francis Murphy told the people of Pitsburg who refused him their churches that if they do not allow their hoys to tramp holes in their church carpets they will tramp holes in the oil cloths of your city saloous. Last week, five thousaind dollars worth of opera tickets in this city were sold, for the play “Boston Ideals” a week in advance of the troupe. The masses cannot feel at home in the fashionabl sect houses, and, will go some place else.
Neither will, the Holy Ghost come down where pride is fosterd and whore formality forbids freedom. Last Friday I was asked to attend the 4’th Protestant M. E. meeting house where a “Revival” was in progress. I did so, and behold the “Charnal house” I saw in my vision. The Spirit and the power gone, and though, without “Whitened walls” within, full of dead mens hones. That is, outwardly called the church, but within all emty formal service. “Having the form without the power. From such turn away.” “We cannot serve God and mammon”
Your Brother.

CHAPTER 1884.
-:o:-
AND it came to pass in these days, that in a certain village in the country called Ohio, there dwelt priests of the harlot daughters of babylon, and the inhabitants thereof were taken with a disease called spiritual slumber. (which is very contagious, and is spreading all over the country.” It is caused by the sleepy potion, called the wine of babylon, or “the wine of the wrath of her fornication.” — Rev. 14:8; 17:2; 18:3, which are administered by the priests of those harlot daughters. They “heal the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying peace, peace.” — Jer. 8:4—13. And the people answer in their sleep, “We are delivered to do all these abominations.” — Jer. 7:3. 9, 10. (The effect of those opiates are, that they cause those that take them, to talk in their sleep, and when called to “awake thou that sleepest,” they answer saying, we are not sleeping, let us alone, we are awake, we see. — Jno. 9:41.) Now the symptoms of the disease, are, loss of spiritual strength, coldness, numbness, mumbling in their sleep. &c. and the result, if not arrested, is Spiritual and eternal death.
Now there lived near this village a certain man, who was cured of this dread disease, by a certain medicine, called the “Balm of Gilead.” (Read Jer. 8:22: 46:11; 51:8.) The immediate effect of which is, Spiritual wakefulness and life, and the final result, eternal life. This man being much concerned about the wretched condition of those inhabitants, went to a priest of one of the harlot daughters, and said to him, what shall be done for those afflicted people? How can they be awakened? The priest answered and said, I know not. If you know aught to do for them, go and do it. Then he thought within himself, now surely the medicine that cured me will cure them, if they can be prevailed on to try it. I will call together some others that have tested this remedy’ and will tell them what it has done for us, and will highly recommend it to them, that they may be prevailed on to try it, and be cured. Now these daughters of babylon build houses which they call churches. Some of them very grand and costly, and very pleasing to look upon, by those who delight in the “lust of the eye.” Now these houses, they say they have dedicated to God, and say they are holy, and that God dwels there, which teaching is contray to the, Word of God. (See Jno. 4:20—24; Acts 7:48, 49; 17:24; 1 Cor. 3:16, 17.) And the people are taught to revere those houses. But behold, they bring all manner of uncleannes and filthiness into them, among which are the vain pomp and show of the world, put on by them that worship in them, and also by a filty stuff called tobacco, which men bring in, in their mouths, and even some of the priests, have their mouths filled with it, which thing causes them to spue out a filty slime about them, most nauseating to behold. In these houses, they have machines to praise God with. When the priest says, let us praise God, then the mouth of the machine is opened, and the people listen, and say, well done. Now this man before spoken of, being some what connected to one of these daughters of babylon, and she, having one of these houses, in said village, in which they have a small room, in wich they meet to pray, and though the children of this daughter are many, yet the room is large enough to hold all that come to pray, the greater number taking more delight in other things. In this room therefore, this man said, let us meet and tell of the wonderful power of the Physician, to cure all that will come to Him. Therefore they met, and highly extolled the medicine that cured them, and also highly extolled and praised the Author of it. Now it chanced chat a certain priest and levite of this babylon daughter, came to this room, and hearing this remedy so highly extolled, they were moved with fear, lest their sleeping potions should be despised by the people, they and thereby loose their traffic; for by the sale of this stupifying wine they have their living. Therefore they arose and began to say, “it is naught, it is naught, these people are deceiving you, why hear ye them?” And they began to reproach and deride, and stirred up the people, so that the room was closed against this man, and those that were with him. So then they that were heald, went their way, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer reproach in the cause of their great and worthy Physician. Thus saith one who applied to the great Physician, and is made every whit whole.

Why I Left My Mother-Sect.
By A. B. Gildersleeve.
I have been a Methodist for 38 years, I might say, inherited Methodism. I have in my possession some of those old love feast tickets, given to my grandmother in Ireland, nearly a hundred years ago. These tickets were issued to memers in good standing, at each quarterly meeting, and were necessary for admission to the love feast. This was early Methodism. I very naturally became much attached to this my mother sect.
I left Sodom (Pittsburg) Saturday. Aug. 30th, for the camp meeting, at Sandy Lake. Pa., to meet with the people who “worship God in Spirit and in truth,” without the restrictions of formal sect organizations, and without any system prescribed by man, where all who had the Spirit of God had liberty. “For where the Spirit of God is, there is liberty.” I went there to put myself in line with God; for I had already seen that God was with that people, and doing more for them than for any in Babylon, in sect steeple houses. The reason is obvious, because they let the Lord Jesus Christ do all the organizing, planning and leading. Whereas the sects are organized by men, conformed to the world and governed by men, regardless of Christ’s will.
Not long after I had got on the train I discovered that the devil had also got on board. He seemed to have an increased interest in my case. While I was at ease in the sect, rocked to sleep in carnal security, by false priests, who “prophesy smooth things,” the devil did not trouble me much, did not think it worth while to worry about me.
Woe unto the hirelings of the sects. They think they have to speak smooth things, for the devil has got things so well organized there, that the priests know very well, that if they were to preach the Gospel as Christ and His Apostles did, the sect would exit of their supplies of fat things, and they choose rather to feed themselves than to feed the flock. “Woe be to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! Should not the shepherd feed the flock.” “Therefore ye shepherds, hear the Word of the Lord.” “Thus saith the Lord God, behold I am against, the shepherds, and I will require the flock at their hands, and cause them to cease from feeding the flock; neither shall the shepherds feed themselves any more; for I will deliver my flock from their mouth, that they may not be meat for them.” “And I will bring them out from the people,” — God makes them come-outers — “and I will feed them on good pasture.” Eze. 34.
But now that I was being lead out by the Lord, Satan quickly got down from the church gate post where he had been sleeping, for all within had been going on to suit him, and having hired the shepherds to put the people to sleep in their sins, he had plenty time to take his ease. But now “the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord,” in a camp meeting at Sandy Lake, and Satan had special business on hand: he was going up to see if there was any chance for him to “come among them.” Job 2:1,
I arrived at the camp about 9 p.m., and the first fellow I met was the devil. He was so brazen-faced as to suggest many things as facts, which I knew to be false. One of which was, “These people are no better than the sects, and in some respects not as good.” But I saw manifestations of power among them, such as I have not seen among the sects, and their preaching is of the apostolic kind, filled with the awful word of God, and accompanied by the power and demonstration of the Spirit. As I had gone there to be renewed in the Spirit of God, I concluded to trust the God that answered by fire, and I said get thee behind me Satan. All day Sabbath I waited impatiently for a chance to go to the alter. About 4 p.m., the opportunity came. I went forward immediately and there made a full consecration to God. I felt the assurance that He was able to keep that which I had committed to Him. I retired for the night in this peaceful state of mind, calmly trusting all in the Lord’s hands. Trusting Him to shield me from the tempter; but in the night the devil came for a grand assault. He woke me up and the very blackness of darkness seemed to be around and over me. My good wife had been the recipient of the sanctifying power at the meeting before I had arrived, so was prepared to be a help to me. I woke her and told her of the indescribable agony I was in. She said at once, “It is the devil.” Then I began to resist him and call upon the Lord, and soon he was gone. I then felt the sweet sanctifying power of the Spirit take possession of my soul: my joy was such that wife was fearful I would disturb others in the house. On Monday night, Bro. Warner having gone home with a family, we were invited to occupy that little chamber of which he spake in his account of the meeting, where God daily filled his soul last year, and which was appropriated to his use this year again. Praise God! the very chamber seemed to be filled with the presence and power of the Almighty. I asked God to give my body rest in sleep. The answer came, “l will give unto thee great peace,” and I said, let it be so, and the power came on me, as it were in waves, one after another, seemingly all that I could bear. Praise God for His power and love! The next day while Bro. Fisher was telling of his vision of the white ship, and giving the interpretation of it. I was carried away as in a vision also, and the Spirit was on me in much power, and revelation as I can not describe. The appearance of a dying roll opened out before me. Praise God’s holy name forever! For He is God and there is none other. No one upon whom the power of God rests can be idle. I felt a wonderful inspiration by the Spirit to work for the Lord.
While at the camp meeting I resulted to destroy my cirtificate of sect membership. When we came home, the power and fire came with us, and we began Sabbath meetings at our house, which my wife and self enjoyed very much, as did all present. I got up in one of those meetings and tore up my church letter, before them all giving them my reasons, that a cirtificate of membership in such an organization as that of the M. E. sect was no favorable recommend for any man; as most every crime committed in the world was committed in her. That there is scarce a business man, no matter how corrupt he is, but what has taken refuge in some sect, as a cover for his crimes, and a cloak for his dishonesty. Hence the sects are making infidels, and many through their pernicious influence, are concluding that the whole thing is a farce. Men in the sects, as a genral thing, cannot be trusted any father than men outside. This is a solemn truth, but it does not justly implicate Christ in the least, becase those worldly corporations do not belong to Him. And it is still true that “if any man be in Christ Jesus he is a new creature.” Thank God, I am in Christ, and saved form sin and sects, and would not be guilty of a membership in such a den of hypocrisy. No wonder Bishop Foster called her an “Empty pompos fraud.” I am now out of all babylon organizations, which tend to blind and deceive, and rock souls for sleep on the very verge of hell.
Wife and I received baptism at the camp meeting, with many others. It was a scene long to be remembered, as one after another, following the example of Christ, came up out of the water, the glory of God descended upon us, until it seemed almost a type of heaven. Blessed be God forever and ever! Amen!

Dear Brethren: — I received the Trumpet, I praise God for the same, and His goodness to me, and His salvation. Continue the Trumpet to me. There are some here who are desirous to road it, and would subscribe if they had the means, and perhaps will soon. From your Brother and friend.

Dear sinner now this truth receive,
On Jesus Christ your Lord believe,
No longer now his Spirit grieve —
He died for you that you might live
And reign with him in glory.
For you He sweat great drops of blood.
For you He cried, “My God, my God.”
For you He bore that awful load
Of sin and guilt, before the Lord,
That you might live in glory.
Oh see Him hanging on the tree,
Three dreadful hours of agony,
That He a sacrifice might be —
He paid the debt required of thee,
That you might live in glory.
Now sinner come, oh come to-day;
Accept salvation while you may;
And come to Christ without delay,
His blood can wash your sins away;
And make you heirs of glory.
And cold professors wake to pray,
From all sect idols, break away;
And learn to do, as well as say,
Abide in Christ, the “vine” each day
And live with Him in glory.

The Pastor of Hermas.
-:o:-
THE pastor of Hermas was one of the most popular books in the Church during the second, third, and forth centuries. It is ascribed to the Hernias spoken of in Rom. 16:14. In the early Church His writings were regarded as among the inspired apostolic writings. There is much excellent matter in his book, which is largely a vision, much as those of the Prophet Ezekiel. We give the following extract, as a good lesson on inward and outward holiness.
_____
He said to me, ”Be simple and guileless, and you will he as the children who know not the wickedness that ruins the life of men. First, then, speak evil of no one, nor listen with pleasure to any one who speaks evil of another. But if you listen, you will partake of the sin of him who speaks evil, if you believe the slander which you hear; for believing it, you will also have something to say against your brother. Thus, then, will you be guilty of the sin of him who slanders. For slauder is evil and an unsteady demon. It never abides in peace, but always remains in discord. Keep yourself from it, and you will always be at peace with all. Put on holiness in which there is no wicked cause of offence, but all deeds that are equable and joyful. Practise goodness; and from the rewards of your labours, which God gives you, give to all the needy in simplicity, not hesitating as to whom you are to give or not to give. Give to all, for God wishes His gifts to be shared amongst all. They who receive, will render an account to God why and for what they have received. For the afflicted who receive will not be condemed, but they who receive on false pretences will suffer punishment. He, then, who gives is guiltless. For as he received from the Lord, so has he accomplished his service in simplicity, not hesitating as to whom he should give and to whom he should not give. This service, then, if accomplished in simplicity, is glorious with God. He, therefore, who thus ministers in simplicity, will live to God. Keep therefore these commandments, as I have given them to you, that your repentance and the repentance of your house may be found in simplicity, and your heart may be pure and stainless.
LIBERTY.
By A. B. Palmer.
Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty.
The devil knows how to quote scripture, but fails to properly explain or apply it; for instance, he will sometimes speak through his agents on this wise, ’’Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty;” then, in the public congregation, assails the doctrine of the bible, as set forth by God’s servent‘s; thus, hiding behind the above scripture. How this be known to all men, that the liberty spoken of by Paul, in 2 Cor. 3—17 means a freedom to do God’s work, or work for God and not for the devil; for whom Christ hath made free is free indeed. Liberty does not mean licence. Let me explain; when Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation giving the slaves of the U. S. their liberty, it did not give them license to rob, plunder, murder, or intrude in any way upon the rights of others, but it simply gave them their freedom, so when God gives any one there freedom from the slavery of sin He has liberty to work for him; and that does not mean license to rise in the public congregation and throw cold water on God’s fire.
Again Paul says, Gal. 5:13. “use not liberty as an occasion to the flesh;” and any person who opposes the strait word of God, by arraying themselves against the doctrine of sanctification, or compromising with sectarian principles, or with the god of fashion, (in the congregation) is guilty of using liberty for an occation to the flesh, thus fulfilling the lusts thereof; they do show forth the works of the flesh, among which are variance, which means disagreeing, strife, seditious which means uproars, heresies, (sects) and a spirit of fight. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin; and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. How if such would walk in the Spirit they would not fulfill the lusts of the flesh; they would be free, and not use liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. 1 Pet. 2—16.

Wonderful Dealings of God with me.
Healing and soforth.
—:o:—
DEAR BRETHREN: – I will relate some of my experience, which I believe will be for the glory of God. Wife and I left Medina Ohio, on the 13th day of Sept. 1884, it being Saturday. We came to Beldon, where we joined Bro. Mohler, from Lodi, who accompanid ns to Elyria. Two miles north of which place, according to previous appointment, we had meeting in a school house; the Lord helped us to talk to the people. “There was no small stir about this way.” On Sabbath morning we drove about 5 or 6 miles south, to where we had heard that there were some brethren on the strait and narrow way for God. We found quite a number gathered for worship, with their preacher who gave us a short discourse on the second coming of Christ. God fired my soul with the Holy Ghost, and gave me the 14th of St John, the Spirit telling me to show them the way of the Lord more perfectly. God helped me to teach the real Bible preparation of the Church, for Christ’s coming. O how God blessed me in teaching, and giving in my experience. In the evening we returned to the former point, where we held meeting Sabbath eve. On Tuesday we started for Jerry City, trusting fully in Jesus. The Lord led our way, and we had glorious times on our journey. As night approached we asked the Lord to direct us to a lodging place. Reaching Clyde Ohio quite late, we inquired for lodging, and were directed to the Nichols House, but God turned us another way, soon coming to a house having the aspect of a boarding House, we turned in, and soon foud we had struck a temprance house, kept by Bro Rogers and wife. We found them Christians, and seeking light, which by the help of God we gave them. O how our hearts were knit together; how loth we were to part. Next day we reached Jerry City, found Bro. Warner there having meeting with the saints. We were wonderfully blessed. Glory to the name of Jesus! The Spirit impressed me to stay there a few days, then go direct from there to Williamston Mich. But we had peviously planned to go by the way of Hillsdale to see some friends. This order of the Lord’s came in direct contact, with previous arrangements. In was hard to give up the seeing of friends, thinking we might do them good, by instructing them in the way of truth. So allowing the enemy to confuse our minds on the Spirit’s leadings, we started for Hillsdale. But we soon found out that we had not followed the Spirit’s directions; hence the first night, had to put up at a wicked, drinking Hotel. The next night we reached our friends, who treated us kindly, but we were, to all appearance, unable to do them any good. Staid there a few days, and then started for Williamston. The next night we were compelled again, and against my will and efforts, to put up at a low, drinking, gambling Hell. We prayed much, and God blessed us with a good nights rest. The next day, Sept. 24th, we arrived here about 3 o’clock. I have given a brief account of this trip, to show that God will lead His children and the consequence of disobedience to Him. At Delta Ohio, I was taken sick with a disentery, which grew worse day by day, until I arrived here, then turned into a bloody flux, which grew worse for some five days longer, then the chills and fever set in and I was prostrated. God had freely forgiven me all my disobedience. Glory to His name! But it seemed good to Him to thus chastise me. On Sabbath morning the 28th of Sept., unable to rise from my bed, Bro. Warner, filled with the Holy Spirit, came to my room, prayed and laid hands on me. I had no power, seemingly, to exercise faith but just trusted myself with the Lord, and was healed. Glory to God! I arose from my bed, dressed and washed myself, by the help of my wife, quite weak at first, but the cure was instantaneous. Had no more disentary, bloofldux, norchillfever. Glory to God for His wonderful power to save soul and body.
The assembly meeting was the most powerful meeting I ever attended. It was a real heaven to my soul. I want to say right here, it has been haven ever since. Hallelujah!
Just before Christmas, I was taken with the tooth ache, and I went down town to get the tooth pulled, it being very sore, and my mouth much swolen, I returned without having it extracted. When living at Medina, I always went to the Lord with all my afflictions, and He healed them all, thought I could do the same here, and not bother God’s Elders: but God soon showed me that I must obey the Word as given in James 5:14. — “Call the Elders.”
So I called Bro. J. Cole he layed hands on me and I was healed, All pain left me, my mouth was opened and I praised God.
In a few minutes the swelling went away, so I could talk and sing with all ease, for which I give God all the glory.
I have been afflicted with catarrh in my head from the age of 15 years, which has been growing gradually worse year by year.
Some eight years ago I sufered very much, as my friends know, and very frequently since. This winter has been very hard on my head. I caught a very, Severe cold on Christmas eve to which fresh colds were added. It settled in my head and on my lungs, my head became swolen, and wonderfully afflicted with severe pain in and over my eyes, which constantly grew worse from Jan. 10 to the 18.
The Brethren did all they could for me, but still I suffered on.
The 18 being Sabbath the people were gathering at the Hall for meeting, I was very bad that morning. Every day to me seemed like taking ten years from my life. Some said, I looked like a corpse.
I knew unless God raised me up my time was short on earth: But, I was reconciled to His will, let that be what it might. The day was very cold, and the Hall very large, was not warm enough, so Bro. Warner brought the congregation down below asking me if I could stand the noise, I did not know and therefore scarcely made any reply. My wife thought it would not do; but he said they would come in and have God heal me first, and then proceed with the meeting. The Spirit of the Lord said to me, “For this hour have I brought you here, that I might glorify myself in you, in the presence of all this people.”
I said Amen! even if it is to show this people how a saint can die, Amen! They all kneeled in prayer some five or six prayed. O how I could feel their faith going over me like waves, sweeping away the pain for a moment, and then it would return again. O how my soul exulted in God. As soon as they arose Bro. Warner anointed me with oil.. As soon as the oil and hands of Bro. W. and Bro. George Butlers were laid on my head the pain all left; I received strength, arose, sit up and praised God. Their were a number of others healed. As soon as the opertunity was given I arose and testified to the glory of God. Skepticts were convinced and gave God the glory. God was wonderfully glorified. In the evening God helped me talk to the people in the hall. O how the Lord blessed my soul. My tongue cannot express the gratatude of my heart to God for His wonderfull dealing to me My testimony just now is that I am sanctified, washed in the blood of the Lamb, made white, ready to go out and meet the Bridegroom. Amen!

We are sorry that our going to Beaver- dam Ind. has been so long delayed. Since we are under promise and obligations to the brethren there. The work on the tract has detained us so much longer than we expected. But as soon as we can get away we will join Bro. and Sister Fisher, and go on our way to that place and then south. Visiting such points in Ind. and Ill. as the Lord will. Thence to Missouri. Pray for us. We are sure we shall come in the fulness of the blessing of the Gospel of Christ. Amen!

Testimony of Jesus.
By H. L. Hargrave.
Nelta, Texas, Jan. 12, ’85.
Dear Brethren and the Trumpet readers: – I feel inclined to write to-night; I have been reading the Trumpet more than one year, find food in every number, for my soul. I praise the Lord for the testimonies, which the Trumpet has been valiant to publish, and for the truth and light I have received from it; may God bless you Bro. Warner, and Bro. Fisher; give you strength, to blow the trumpet, until the towers of Babylon have not one stone upon another; the sound is not only beard in Texas but felt, sect preachers say, “we are astonished at such doctrine,” “that he is a setter fourth of strange doctrine.” Not one near me, that is free from the sect yoke; some have declared their freedom publicly, but have not had their names taken from their books of “curious arts” — Acts. 19:19. When the Lord opened my eyes, and showed me that the sects were “cages of unclean birds,” I declared the whole of the truth as it had been revealed to me, public and private, and I soon bad great persecution. And by some means, the Trumpet, was handed to me, glory to God; it was like a friend, seemed to embrace me in its arms, and met me with a “holy kiss.” The devil had sent messengers to me who professed to be holy, saying, they bad known persons to leave the sect as I had, and all had shipwrecked; but I continued to pray, and the Lord said to me, as “Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourself likewise with the same mind,” and “he that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution,” and after that “you have suffered a while, He will stablish, strengthen, settle you, and make you perfect.” Glory to God! who now is “all and in all,” His truth has made me free; free from sects, free from all sin, and free from the fear of death and hell, Glory! Glory!! Glory!!! “Therefore being justified by faith we have peace with God, through our Lord Jesus Christ. By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the Glory of God.” And not only so but we glory in tribulation also; knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope. Rom. 5. “Then being dead to sin, how shall we live any longer therein?” 6:2; and there being now, no condemnation, we leave the things which are behind,” and reach forth unto those things which are before, and press to the mark of the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Phil. 3:13. “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.” “And we who are Christs have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.” And by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, bond or free; and God set the members every one of them in the body (church), as it hath pleased Him. 1 Cor. 13:18. That there should be no schism (division) in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.” Unto him that hath loved us and washed us, be all the Glory. Amen! A brother in Christ.

HEALED BY THE LORD.
Clara Thomas.
Dear Brethren: — Praise God I am saved today by the blood of the Lamb. In my experience I sent you not long ago, I forgot to glorify God by testifying to His love and power, exercised in my healing. So I will do so now.
While dear Brother “Warner was bolding precious meetings, one day the dear Lord healed several of their diseases. I felt His mighty power, and believed He would heal me, and wished the Lord to heal me of the catarrh in the bead. So I whispered to Ma, saying, ”Do you think Bro. Warner would lay bands on me, and ask Jesus to heal me?” She said I might ask him. I went right to him and did so. He said, ’’Glory to Jesus, I will be glad to do so.” Praise the Lord! I took the seat, and while he was looking to God with his bands upon my bead, I, as usual had to breathe through my mouth, because my nose was so stopped up. I felt the power of the Lord in my body. The Spirit said to me, ’’Shut your mouth and breathe trough your nose.” I obeyed the impression, and glory to Jesus! my nostrils were cleared so I could breathe through them with perfect ease. Praise the Lord! I have been free from this distressing disease ever since.
We have just come from a glorious meeting where we gained a victory over the adversary, through Jesus Christ. Sister W. was suffering greatly with a pain in her limb. The little ones laid hand on her and she was restored to perfect health in her body through Jesus Christ, the great Physician. Glory Jesus for his healing power manifest unto such unworthy creatures as we. Your sister washed in the blood.
Battle Creek, Mich. Dec. 28, 1885.

When you get into the pulpit, reassure yourself of your call to be an embassador of Christ, and that yon ace about to “teach your bearers to observe all things whatsoever be bath commanded,” and then by the promise, ”Lo, I am with you always,” realize by faith that the world’s Redeemer is in the pulpit with you, as really present as though you saw him with your eyes — present in his spiritual nature, in his essential divinity, in all the fullness of his saving power. A faithful application of this prescription, my brother, will supersede the necessity of any other, and always operate with satisfactory success.

The Sabbath Tract.
—:o:—
We find the Lord held us to the work of writing on this subject, to a greater extent than we bad supposed, when we began. Therefore the tract will be larger than we bad announced; about 60, or 64 pages. The price will be 25 cts., instead of 20, as we had expected. But it has been longer coming forth than we had anticipated. This owing to the fact that we have much more matter to set, than we bad calculated. Hence we had to stop and issue the Trumpet. How we are at it again, therefore the Next Trumpet may be somewhat late again. But we are doing the best we can, and feel sure the dear saints will bear with us. God has enabled us to set forth the subject in the clear light of abundance of Scripture. And every soul that is delivered from the law heresy, is as much as a soul converted; for the law that is propagated by the Saturnarians, is inseparably connected with bondage, sin, and death So every reader of the Trumpet can glorify God in sending your ordors for this tract; read it and loan it. This would also be a good financial help to spread other matter for the Lord.
__________
In a “brief sketch of the seventh day Adventists origin and principles” We read, that, “The President of the General Conference is the highest officer in the body.” Then Christ Jesus and the Holy Spirit have no place at all in that body. Or if there at all must be subordinate to the great man-President. But as Christ has the preeminence in all things, and can not be brought into subordination to men, He is not in that sect of Babylon at all. Our recent labors in Battle Creek the seat of this no-soul creature of the beast, has confirmed this fact. Some that attended, had not manners enough to keep them from interrupting the preaching of the Word. Young law-vent-ist students amused themselves by pricking each other with pins. A girl, (not to say lady), sitting close by, made scornful faces at us when our eyes were on the book reading God’s Word: and also at a sister who looked her in the eyes, hoping to shame her into decent behavior. Surely this is a Christless sect.

It is very dangerous to read matter that is mixed with error, unless you have the Holy Spirit in your soul, the great detecter, that searcheth all things. And having this holy illuminater and teacher you have no inclination, time, nor necessity for perusing such literature.

All sectarians are warped by their creeds, and blinded by their sect idols, so that they cannot see, nor walk in the straight line of God,s truth. Every sect name and creed becomes an idol, which perverts the judgement, and corrupts the conscious, and induces the practice of wresting the scriptures for the sake of the sect god. Entire sanctification, and the Holy Spirit destroy the sects and denominations, therefore all that adhere to, and defend these organized schisms are without the Holy Spirit. ’’From such turn away.”

Through the Word power passes into the soul. Come, be taught; become as I am, for I, too, was as ye are. These have conquered me — the divinity of the instruction, and the power of the word. The word drives the fearful passions of our sensual nature from the very recesses of the soul; first driving forth lust, throgh which very ill is begotten — hatreds, strife, envy, emulations, anger, and such like. Lust being once banished, the soul becomes c amand serene.

Dear Brethren: — Please find enclosed $1,00 to apply on the Gospel Trumpet. Would be glad to do more, and will from time, to time, as the Lord prospers us. Now I will give in a little of my experience of late in regard to the Trumpet. Three weeks ago last Sabbath night I staid at home from church, and as I was reading the Gospel Turumpet of Oct 1st, in reference to the one Church, the Lord poured out His Spirit upon me, and I was wonderfully blessed, and strengthened, in soul and body. I got up and walked the floor for some time, and promised the Lord I would not be ashamed of the Gospel of Christ. Then I started for the School House, where the F. M’s. were holding meetings. But it being late, I thought perhaps the meeting would be out, and I would not get a chance to give in my testimony, so returned home. But the Lord showed me that Bros. Warner and Fisher were men of God, and held me to tell it the next Thursday night, at prayer meeting, and gave me a better consecration, than I ever had before. And to Him be all the glory, now and forever, world without end. Amen! and amen!
I must now say here, the minds of the people were greatly prejudiced, in regard to the Trumpet, as also the Sword. As you all know, this way was evil spoken of, and but few cared to read the papers, or hear the truth. But be of good courage dear brethren, for the blessed truth will prevail at last, and prejudice give way under the melting influence of God’s Holy Spirit. We look for better days in this place, and ask your prayers in our behalf, that we stand firm on the solid flock Christ Jesus. A few names of us meet together in the name of Jesus, and are free from sects.

Dear Brethren: — I am praising God for salvation to-night, that saves me from all sin. Oh glory to God! I am so glad that Jesus ever took my feet out of the mire and clay, and placed them on the solid Rock. Oh hallelujah to God forever and ever! Oh I do praise God! that I am lost in Jesus. I am dead, yet I live, not I, but Christ liveth in me. Glory be to His name forever! I am trusting Jesus every moment, and blessed be His holy name, He saves me moment, by moment.

Dear Brethren: — Enclosed you will find $1.00 to pay for the Gospel Trumpet. I would to God it were ten times as much; if I had it, I would give it with a willing and a free heart. O praise God! He has done so much for me. The Lord leads me to write some of my experience, four years ago last fall, I joined the Winebrenarian Sect. I tried to live a Christian life, but I could not feel that I was saved from sin. I was not satisfied, for I believed that we should know when our sins were forgiven. I was persuaded to go on, and I would feel all right after a while. But the Lord knew all about it, and He did not leave nor forsake me. About one year after, I heard a sermon preached on the second work of grace. I saw I was an awful sinner, and great fear came upon me. It seemed the Lord stood right over me to kill me, if I did not repent. I promised the Lord that I would give myself to Him, and serve Him the rest of my life. O glory to God! I prayed in earnest, and He spoke peace to my soul. O the wonderful love that filled my soul! The Lord set me right to work, to lead others to Christ. I was fully given up to do His will. About four days after my sins were pardoned, while at the altar, the Spirit of God came upon me, and I was prostrated upon the floor. Some-thing says to me, “you have got excited, and are going to die.” I was getting cold, my heart seemed to cease beating at times; I thought I was going to leave this world. The Lord asked me if I was willing to die, and leave all, I thought of my husband, and children, which were hard to leave, and I said yes Lord if it is Thy will. Glory to God! I died to sin and this world, and became alive unto God forevermore. I arose with shouts of praises to Him who had redeemed me. But time would fail me to tell what trials I had to pass through, but out of them all the Lord delivered me. Praise His holy name! I joined the F. M., sect, but the Lord soon showed me it was wrong. I don’t think I would have joined them, had it not been for the persecutions I received from the Elder of the Winebrenarian sect. I could not feel the Spirit of God there, with such an ungodly man for a leader. I could not have fellowship with devils. O glory to God! I am free. The Lord led me out of babylon, and I belong to the Church of the Living God, whose names are written in heaven. I’m saved and washed in the blood.
Your sister, all the Lord’s.

Dear Brethren: — In Christian love we greet you to-day. Have received our account with the Trumpet with joy. We feel this movement is of God, and ought to have been made ere this. For I do feel that while some of the dear saints were burdened, concerning this work, other professing saints were much at ease. Well it is in my heart to do much toward publishing the Trumpet, or rather to help financially in this work, but I have not the means at my command.
Beloveds pray for us, as we never cease to do for you. We are “contending earnestly for the faith which was once delivered to the saints.” Had a good free time last Sunday; expect to open up fire on the enemy again next Lords day, in our own house. Hallelujah! Praise God, how we love the battle, with all its roar and din, it is sweet to us. How the dear Lord does bless, strengthen, and keep us.
Yours in the bond of perfectness.

Dear Brethren: — I feel led by the Spirit to write for the Gospel Trumpet, and tell what the Lord has done for me, in both saving my soul, and healing my body. O praise God! I can never praise Him enough for what He has done for me. He keeps me each moment of my life, glory to His holy name, I know that He will keep me, if I trust Him and do His bidding. I have trials, and temptatians, but the blessed Lord gives me the victory over all devils and men. The sects tell us we are fanatic. Oh how the sects are trying to stop God’s work, the sect minister don’t want us to come to their meeting, because we tell them they are not right. Praise God we fear not men, for the word teaches us that “perfect love casteth out fear.” Praise God we will stand for Him, when He leads to her meetings, we’ll go. God led us there last Thursday night, and the M. E. minister said three different times in that meeting, that he would convince Christ that he could stand alone in the world. O may God convict, and save that man, for he is not sent of God to preach. Oh! I can never thank God enough, for calling me out of sects, and glory to His holy name, I will testify to His healing power.
One year ago last April, I was taken very sick, and was obliged to keep my bed for two weeks. I did not take any medicine for I knew the Lord could heal me, and on the 8th day of April I was healed by the power of God. My jaws were set, and my body was cold. There was prayer meeting at Bro. Lowe’s that night; some of the saints staid with me, and others were at meeting, and husband sent for Bro. Fisher. He was at the meeting. He came, and saw that I was almost gone, and he was led by the Lord to lay hands on me for healing. He knew the Lord could raise me, and after he had laid on hands, and prayed, my jaws opened, and I could swallow water in a little while. And in a few days I was able to do my work. All the glory is the Lord’s. We came north from Breedsville last November, and I have been healed by the Lord twice since we moved here. I was taken sick on the ninth of September, and was very bad for three weeks; could scarcely eat, and kept getting worse. People that saw me thought I could not last long. I knew that the Lord would heal me, and I just said Lord Thy will be done. I would take no medicine. Satan tempted, but I put my trust in my blessed Savior, and on the 28th day of September the Lord did heal me, by the laying on of hands, and prayer. I will give God all the glory forever. Oh I will praise Him forever! The Lord is our physician, praise His name. I am His and He is mine, glory! glory! I am wholly sanctified, washed, and redeemed by His own precious blood, and my name is written in the Lamb’s book of life: my feet are on the solid Rock. I ask the prayers of all God’s children.

Dear Brethren: — We received the Trumpet with your kind notice that I was owing for the paper. Well yes I do owe you, and I bless the Lord I am now able to pay. I have been thinking about sending you some money, for some time, so your little message puts me right to work. So here I am with pay for one year more.

Dear Brethren: — May God bless you. Praise God this morning for salvation in my soul. I am saved through the blood of Jesus, and the Lord has wonderfully baptized me with the Holy Ghost and fire. Praise God and the Lamb forever and ever! I am redeemed, made white, and tried. Gloy, Glory to God! We had meeting here last night; about 28 of the little ones were here from Covert. The Lord poured out His Spirit upon us, and the devil was stirred up. Praise God for salvation and power that the devil can’t stand! The Trumpet is meet and drink to my soul.

Brother Warner, I will send you $3.00 for the Trumpet, in this letter. It is a good paper. I believe the Word of God. My earnest prayer to God is, that I may understand the whole truth. In this part of the country, the whole truth is not preached as I understand it. I would like to hear some body that would preach the truth as it is in Christ Jesus.

In Him I find such sweet rest. Truly He is all in all to me. O I am so glad for the truth that makes me free. Free from all sects as well as all ether sin.

Dear Brethren: — I like the Trumpet; it has the right name. But they who will live Godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. Let them come, if need be, for Christ’s sake. They persecuted Christ, and He can, and will take care of them who are tried for His sake. I am thankful to God, that He has preachers that are not afraid to preach the truth, and the whole truth. I have taken the narrow way, and by God’s will I mean to walk in it. The way is growing brighter. Jesus is my hope and trust.

Dear Brethren: — I do thank our blessed Savior this morning, for the glorious privilege of writing to the dear children of God; although I am deprived of the sweet fellowship of the saints; in mingling our voices together in song and prayer, but I feel this morning that our Father doth all things well. I do hope and pray, that God will send some one here to preach the true Word of God. There is no meeting here of any kind. I believe that there could be good done in this place. Oh I do praise the Lord for salvation that keeps me every day, through trials, temptations and persecutions. Oh, I have been so tempted since I came here, but God’s power is greater than the devil’s and He is able to keep His children from falling. Blessed be the name of the Lord! The Scripture comes to my mind just now, “ Behold I send you forth as sheep amidst wolves,” and I know I am in the midst of satans children; but I pray that God will help me to let my light shine, that it may be a bright and shining light to those that are wandering in sin and darkness. It does fill my heart with joy, to get the Trumpet and read the testimonies of the dear ones, so far from me; but I trust that we may all be kept, preserved unto the coming of the Lord, when parting will be no more. May the Lord keep you all; abounding in love and peace, and be able to bear all the false reports, that is east upon you, is the prayer of your Sister in Christ. Enclosed $1.00 for the Trumpet. Please continue it.

Dear Brethren: — I do love the Lord Jesus, and He saves me now, His Spirit prompts me to reach out after more and more of His love, and a more complete conformity to His will, “None of self and all of Thee,” is the laguage of my soul continually.
Well the old deceiver does not like the way things are going here, and is endeavoring to hinder the work. But he finds determined hearts, willing to follow closely the Captain of our salvation, and hear, and obey His every command. I had a severe conflict yesterday, but Jesus whispered to me, “daughter, be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.” O how sweet and glorious His gentle voice to a tried soul. Thank God for His thrilling, soothing Spirit which I feel just now. Your letter to the saints here filled our hearts with so much joy, that praises and thanksgiving went up to the Father for His wonderful power to save. Surely the Lord is visiting His people. Glory to His name! I thank God for the roll of Trumpets you sent me last week. They have gone on their mission in the name of Jesus. And I trust will be the means of doing much good. The Lord bless you for sending them. The will of God, is supreme in my soul, and brings untold, peace to me. How shall I praise God enough for His wonderful dealing with us all.

Dear Brethren: — I feel impressed by the Holy Spirit to write you, and let you know that the battle is raging here in Pittsburg. But glory be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the great captain of our salvation. The sect devil cannot stand the truth, and power of God. Truth is mighty, and will prevail. Glory to God! He is more than all they that are against us. Praise the Lord! my soul is filled with His power, and glory, this morning. I am still walking in the true light, and know for myself, that the blood of Jesus cleanseth me now, from all sin, and sanctifies me wholy. Glory be to God! forever, and ever Amen.
I would like to take a trip out through the west to see the dear saints, and to labor for the salvation of precious souls. Your Bro. fully saved in Christ.

Dear Brethren: — God wonderfully saves my soul just now. I never had such wonderful conceptions of Divine glory in my life as I have at present. Glory to God! for such a glorious salvation. I fully realize what it is to overcome, (through the blood,) all persecutions and oppossitions for Christs sake. Well, the Lord is blessing his chosen ones, wonderfully, around Bangor. On Christmas we met with Bros. Grover and Speck and the dear saints, for miles around, at the Geneva center school- house, in the forenoon, and in the evening, at Sister Beebe’s, where we had ordinance meeting, fifty souls partaking, after which we had a glorious testimony meeting. Friday the 26, Bro. Speck and I went to the Osterhouse neighborhood to meet the saints; we had a good meeting with them on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday evenings; seven consecrated Saturday evening, and four more Monday evening. The mighty power of God was manifested last evening. There is a good interest manifested here, (Osterhouse) and we intend if the Lord wills to hold forth here as long as the Lord uses us to his glory.
From your Bro. saved, sanctified by a second work of grace, and delivered from babylon after a 24 years residence. To God be all the glory.

’’Wherefore glorify ye the Lord in the fires,” Isa. xxiv, 15, “When I was some years ago at Shields, I went into a glass house, and standing very attentively I saw several masses of burning glass of various forms. The workman took one piece of glass and put it into one furnace, then he put it into a second, then into a third. I asked him, ’Why do you put that into so many fires?’ He answered me, ’O, sir, the first was not hot enough, nor the second, and therefore we put it into the third, and that will make it transparent.’ O, thought I, does this man put this glass into one furnace after another that it may he rendered perfect? O my God, put me into one furnace after another, that my soul may be transparent, that I may see God as he is.”

Right; Confess Your Guilt
Bucyrus. O Dec, 28th.
Dear Brethren: — May the God of Israel keep you always. Amen!
We received the Gospel Trumpet with much gladness. It is rich food to my soul. It is next to the Bible in our house. May it sound the truth loud, and long Hallelujah! Amen! It is wonderful how God is leading His saved ones. The Saints met at Bro. Coutz’s to day, and we were all there in one place, with one accord, and the fire came down upon us. Father Coutz was healed by the laying on of hands, in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then mother Coutz came forward for healing also. She has been greatly afflicted for years. We laid hands on her and asked God to heal her and she claimed it by faith, on the promise of God, and was made to rejoice and praise God with the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The saints were strengthened in the faith that was once delivered to the saints. O glory to God, for His wonderful salvation, and for His healing power. Thank God we need not be without the Great Physician. I bless God that I have that gift of healing. I realize it to day by the Holy Spirit all through me.
Praise’ the Lord! My heart is ever Singing,
Rejoice ye Saints the time draws near
When Christ will in the clouds appear
And for His people call.
Your Bro. saved and sanctified, through the precious blood of Jesus.
