ATTENTION

—:o:—

We are once more obliged to call the attention of our readers to the fact that ALL LETTERS not personal: that is, all letters containing business matter for TRUMPET, MUST BE addressed to GOSPEL TRUMPET, insure prompt attention, and NOT to D. S. Warner, J. C. Fisher, or Sebastian Michels; for they are out in the field nearly all the time, and many times letters are forwarded unopened: thus if they contain busines matter, it is delayed, and sometimes forgotten.

Also FULL NAME and POST OFFICE address must be given. For instance, one writes and signs his name Henry, another John, etc. Now we have many Henries and Johns on the book, and many times three or four at the same place, and how are we to tell which Henry, or which John is writing? Answer. By giving your full name. Also, when the business is pertaining to the TRUMPET, you must give the name to which the paper is sent. For instance, the paper is sent to a man; he being busy, his wife writes, and signs her own name: we are unable to find her name at that place, although the same name may be at a neighboring Office. This causes trouble, and many mistakes.

Also you must give POST OFFICE and STATE. For instance, one writes from Lafayette, but fails to tell what State. How are we to tell what State, as nearly every State has a Post Office named Lafayette?

Others write, giving the name of County, or Township in which they live, but fail to give their Post Office. It is the POST OFFICE and STATE that we want to know.

Now the people must observe this notice, or we are not responsible if your orders are not filled, or for mistakes in credits. By observing these rules, you will save us a great deal of precious time and expense, which is much needed in other ways.

May the Lord bless you all is our prayer.

CHRIST, OUR FAMILY PHYSICIAN.

—:o:—

Churubusco Ind.

Dear Brethren: — This evening finds us well. Praise God for health of soul and body!

Our children have been sick with the sore throat, and our faith was very much tried. We were both determined not to call an earthly Physician. Our little son Orvy got very bad, so we layed hands on him in the name of the Lord, and soon the fever left him, and he wanted some food. He ate hearty, and we could not praise God enough for His wonderful goodness to us. Since the meeting at Lake Center, the Sun has not gone down at our home. My wife is firm as a rock, regardless of relatives turning against us. Praise Cod for a salvation that enables us to stand under all circumstances, and glory in tribulation also. I long for the time to come when I can engage in another meeting: it is like a fire shut up in my bones. We had an appointment at Collins, am, when we arrived, there was a goodly number there and a reprobate preacher. We thought there would be a hard fight, but to God be all the glory. When we began to read the 4th chapter of Micah, the Lord cleared the way and sent, the truth with such power, that it caused the tears to flow from the eyes of some sectarians, and there was the most profound attention from all in the house, save one young man. Praise our God for the victory!

We want to go to Churubusco Ind. as soon as possible. By the help of God, will give those disunited brethren the worst straightening up they have ever had.

We received a letter from my wife’s aunt near Bourboun. She was at that F. M. camp meeting at Blue River and heard my testimony, and praise God, she has renounced sects, and is gloriously saved.

May God bless you abundantly, for Jesus’ sake, is my daily prayer.

Henry Smith.

Pittsville, Pa.

Dear Brethren: — My testimony is, I am saved, sanctified, and redeemed by the blood of Jesus. Praise God forever and ever! He was faithful and just to forgive me of all my sins, such as chewing and smoking tobacco, and drinking whisky, and cursing and swearing, and all such evils. Praise the Lord forever and ever! I am saved from all sin, and sanctified wholly to the Lord.

THE TWO WOMEN.

—:o:—

THE Revelation represents two women, one is the true Church of God, the Lamb’s Wife; the other is all the sect denominations which call themselves churches, she is called by the Word of God, Mystery, Babylon the great.

The true Church of God is the Lamb’s Wife, and she is a pure woman, who is clothed with the glory of the Sun. She is made up of the redeemed of the Lord; and She is a glorious Church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but she is holy and without blemish. All that are in her are members of Christ’s Body, of His flesh, and of His bones. For this cause a man shall forsake all, and the Lord shall add him to the Church, and Christ and the Church, though twain shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery, but it is according to the Word of God. So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and God hath set us in the Church as it hath pleased Him, and He adds to it daily such as are being saved. Oh praise the Lord! for such a glorious Church. Praise ye the Lord: for the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth. Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honor to Him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and His Wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white; for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

There is another woman in the world which has a name written upon her forehead, which is this. Mystery, Babylon the great, The mother of harlots, and abomitions of the earth. She is a great city, and she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication. She saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. She says, I will now open the door, and you must come in and be a part of me, and have your name written down and placed in the cup which I hold in ray hand. The Word of God calls her a harlot, a whore, a fornicator, and an adulteress, and says that Christians must not be joined to her; for Christians are members of Christ, We must not take the members of Christ and make them the members of a harlot. God will not allow it. What! know ye not that he which is joined to a harlot is one body? for two saith He, shall be one flesh. But he that is joined unto the Lord is one Spirit. It we are a member of Christ, and join ourselves to sect babylon, we become a fornicator, and we must fall; for she is fallen. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the Body: but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What! know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought, with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit which are God’s. — 1 Cor. 6:15-20 Ye are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s. — 1 Cor. 3:23. Every Christian belongs to Christ, and He has no right to join any part of sect babylon.

The sects (so called churches) of to-day are all in friendship with the world, and the world loves them, therefore they are of God, for the world loves his own. — Jno. 15:19. “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be the friend of the world, is the enemy of God.” — James 4:4.

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the Jove of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof:but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever. — 1 John 2:15-17.

Every sect denomination loves the work and tries to please the world, and they try to get the wealthy, in preference to the poor, to join them, so that they can partake of their worldliness; they love money, but God says, “The love of money is the root of all evil.” Then it is evident that they have the root of all evil in them.

The preceding has been the description of two women; one is the Church of Christ; the other is sect babylon. Which one do you want to be a part of? Choose ye this day whom ye will serve. May God help you to keep clear from babylon, and if you have already been ensnared into her, as a great many honest people have, you should listen to the voice of God which says, “Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto Heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.” — Rev. 18:4, 5.

Again He says, “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers.” “Come out from among them, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” — 2 Cor. 6:14, 17, 18.

I will give you a few rules to distinguish these two women, or the true Church of Christ, from the sects which constitute Mystery, Babylon the great. It will be well for the reader to consider these rules, and see if they are not according to the Word of God.

(Rule 1st.) The true Church has Christ for its Head, “and He is the Head of the Body, the Church; who is the beginning, the First-born from the dead; that in all things He might have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in Him should all fulness dwell.” — Col. 1:18, 19. “Christ is the Head of the Church: and He is the Savior of the Body.” — Eph. 5:23. God has put all things under the feet of Christ, and gave Him to be bead over all things to the Church, which is His Body, the fulness of Him that filleth all in all. — Eph. 1:22.

While in sect babylon men appoint men to be head over what they call the Church.

(2) You cannot join the true Church; but the Lord can add you to it, and will if you will give yourself to Him and obey Him. “And the Lord added to the Church daily such as should be saved.” — Acts 2:47. While on the other hand, you can join any division of sect babylon you choose, and you can join a different sect or denomination each winter it you are so disposed. And each one thinks as much of his sect as a heathen does of his idol.

“Ephraim is joined to his idols: let him alone.”

(3) in the true Church your name is recorded only in the Lamb’s book of life which is in Heaven. Rejoice because your names are written in Heaven. — Luke 10:20. Heb. 12:23. While in sect babylon they keep a record on what they call a class book, of every one that joins them and receives the mark of the beast in the hand. All that worship the beast, have not their names written in the Lamb s book of life. — Rev. 13:8.

(4) The true Church of Christ is organized by God through the Holy Spirit, and “God hath set the members every one of them in the Body, as it pleased Him.” And “God hath tempered the Body together,” and the Spirit, shows to us our calling, “dividing to every man severally, as He wills.” — 1 Cor. 12:11, 18, 24.

While every part, or division of sect babylon is organized by men, and the members are placed by men to suit themselves, according as they think it will be most advantageous to their sect, and bring in the most money, and be the most popular to the world.

(5) The true Church of Christ takes the whole of the New Testament for their only guide and lives by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God, but they do not regard the creeds and doctrines of men. While in sect babylon each sect has some particular creed to go by, and they will not take the whole, of the New Testament for their guide; and they do not think the Word of God is sufficient to govern them, therefore they follow after the doctrine and commandments of men.

Christ says, “Howbelt, in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the

commandments of men. For laying aside the commandments of God, ye hold to the tradition of men. Ye reject the commandments of God that ye may keep your own tradition.” — Mark 7:7-9.

(6) The true Church is composed only of the redeemed, and no sinner can get into it until he is cleansed by the blood of Christ, for it is walled up by the walls of salvation. Thou shalt call thy walls salvation, and thy gates praise. — Isa. 60:18. “Salvation will God appoint for walls and bulwarks.” — Isa. 26:1. And they shall call them the “holy people, the redeemed of the Lord.” — Isa. 62:12. According as He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that, we should be holy, and without blame before Him in love. — Eph. 1:4. While on the other hand, sect babylon has become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. All kinds of sinners are in her, and they cannot cease from sinning. More than half the worldlings in this country are members of sect babylon.

(7) The true Church is bound together by love. While sect babylon is not united, but they are divided, and each sect holds to their own creed and class book. “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city, or house divided against itself shall not stand. — Matt. 12:25. Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.” — Rev. 14:8.

O how I praise God for saving me out of babylon, and for placing me in the true Church of God.

E. G. Wickersham.

PRAY WITHOUT CEASING

_____

BRO. H. C. Key writes us of a disputation he had with some Tunkers. They contend a woman must wear a covering, or cap, citing this Scripture, “Every man praying or prophesying with his head covered dishonoreth his head; but every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered, dishonoreth her head.” To which Bro. Henry very aptly replied, “If that proves that a woman must not pray without a cap on her head, it also proves that a man must go bare-headed always. The Scriptures enjoin that “men pray always,” and “pray without ceasing.” Now if he must never pray with his head covered, and yet must pray without ceasing, he must always go bare-headed.

Well said, Bro. Henry, I hope you will pray always, cover or no cover.

A TESTIMONY.

Vanderbilt Mich.

Dear Brethren: — I received your paper and enjoyed the reading very much. I read it all through and lent it to a friend. I am in harmony with all the truths that you set forth, and rejoice to know that some-one does practice the Word, instead of a cold formality which is everywhere so prevalent. I love the truth of John 3:5, and Rom. 6:4, also the ordinance of John 13:14, 15. I am a hater of tobacco and all kinds of liquor — do not use tea, for it’s a stimulant, and not a nourishment. I am a lover of plain dress and pure godliness. This is an outline of my present principles, and I expect in the future they will grow stronger. Modern babylon is the confusion of beliefs so wide-spread in these last days. If we look for reformation, we look in vain, for evil men and seducers will wax worse and worse. A few scattered ones will come out if they are reached by the sentinels of true Zion. May the blessed One above impress us to apply our hearts to wisdom, so we will do our part, faithfully. May God lead you into all truth. Amen! There never was a time of so many professors of Christianity, and such wide-spread infidelity.

What comfort we do find in Isaiah 40:12-15. Also the signs of the times are a true witness of the last days, as shown by 3rd chap. of 2nd Tim., which is clearly demonstrated before our eyes in the popular churches; because the 5th Vr. reads, “Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.” I close with love and wishing of success to you. Amen!

C. Corless.

BE YE FOLLOWERS OF GOD AS DEAR CHILDREN.

—:o:—

“FOLLOW peace with all men and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.” As obedient children, not fashioning, yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance, but as He which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation. Because it is written, be ye holy for I am holy. And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: for as much as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a Lamb without blemish and without spot. Be ye therefore followers of God as dear children, and walk in love, as Christ hath loved us, and hath given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour. But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you as becometh saints. Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient, (consistent) but rather giving of thanks. For the time passed of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles.” For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God, and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the Gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear.”

O may we all be just what God would have us be, framing our lives by His, “who did no sin, neither was guile found in His mouth, and has left us an example that we should follow in His steps.” Oh how many professed christians indulge in light conversation. For our conversation is in Heaven; from whence also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ: who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto His glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto Himself. — Phil. 3:20, 21. Let your conversation be as it becometh the Gospel of Christ. — Phil. 1:27. “Therefore, my brethren, dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand last in the Lord. Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice. Let your conversation be known unto all men, the Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing, but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God, who giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not.”

We, as God’s children, must have our lives correspond with the Word of God, and be examples for rise young. Paul to Tim., “Let no man despise thy youth, but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” Jesus says, “Every idle word that man shall speak, they shall give an account thereof in the day of judgment.” For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”

Paul to Titus, “In all things showing thyself a pattern of good works, in doctrine showing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, sound speech that cannot be condemned, that he that is of a contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you. For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world.” “For the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in the which the Heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, and the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of person ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness. Looking for and hastening unto the day of God, wherein the Heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat.”

Wherefore beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be dilligent, that ye may be found of Him in peace, without spot and blameless.

Your sister complete in all the will of God.

REQUESTS FOR PRAYERS.

—:o:—

Winfield, Kan.

Gospel Trumpet. T ask all the holy people that read the TRUMPET, to pray for my son Arthur. He is possessed of an evil spirit. At times he is vicious, and threatens to kill all who come in his way. We tried to get him in the State Asylum for the Insane, but he was rejected because we had lived in the State so short a time.

He was kept in jail two nights; but he got hurt, so we took him out, and now have him on our hands, with no one to look to but God. I am kept at home to take care of him, and cannot work at my trade.

I am in need of help. Any one sending us assistance will receive our prayers, and God will bless you. Pray that God will save and heal my boy. To God be all the glory! If led of the Lord, will Bro. Warner and hand send us a handkerchief by mail, with the power of God to east out the evil spirit.

I am sanctified wholly just now. Amen!

Isaac Pennington.

Pray God to heal Sister Sharp, of Laclede Mo. of great bodily afflictions, and give her the fulness of the Spirit of God.

CHICAGO IN DARKNESS.

—:o:—

DEAR BRO., we read in the Bible that Jesus said to Thomas the unbeliever: “I am the way, the truth; and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” — John 14:6. This Scripture seems to have little to do with the Romish worship of the Virgin Mary, and the saints; at the same time it strikes at the root the worship of this world before which the people of Chicago are bowing every day.

The other day, there came suddenly, in the morning a thick cloud, which spread darkness and terror over the city of Chicago. This was a real picture of the darkness of the inhabitants of this wicked city. “The Light came into this world (John 6:1) and the darkness comprehended it not. He came unto His own, and His own received Him not,” and why? Because men love darkness rather than light. So it is in Chicago. Those that are sent to preach His Word faithfully, — Jer. 22:28, 29, the Lord’s message, — Hag. 1:13. Whatsoever I have commanded you, — Matt. 28:19, 20. Justification and sanctification by faith, — Acts 26:17, 18. Warning against false teaching, — Deut. 29:29. Those that are sent to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ are to-day, as of old chased and hunted like beasts of prey.

“Ye shall be reviled, ye shall be hated, stoned, and put to death,” is true to-day as in the days of the primitive Church,

We have no need to cross the Ocean to find barbarians, and meet with Pagans — idol worshipers. We have plenty of that stuff right here. I would even go further, saying, they are worse than Africans, for the reason, that clothed with the cloak of religion, having a certain form of godliness, having the name of being chrtstians, having creeds and rites, going to church, professing Christ, they worship the devil.

Now Brother Editor, I want to come to this point. We are here, a small band of Evangelical workers. We feel called of God to cry aloud in the name of our dear Savior: Repent! repent, or ye shall all likewise perish: we feel ordained of God, to come into this Ninevah, lifting up our voices like Trumpets to show the people of Chicago their transgressions, and their sins, and we are stoned, pelted, and hated to the uttermost: and by whom? By those who seem to be of the house of God, by Protestants, by people who preach Christ, and serve devils of every description, especially the gods of the flesh, of pride, of money, as we find all these devils in the churches of every Protestant denomination.

Because God is ordering us to preach His Gospel to every human creature wherever we find one; because God is telling us to go in the highways, and hedges, and compel them to come into His house, that it might be filled; because God commands us to go to the poor, Matt. 11:5; to the Lord’s people — Isa. 58:1; in the houses, — Mark 11:1, 2; as ye sit at meat — Mark 15:17; in the corn-fields — Mark 2:23-28; by the sea-side — Mark 4:1; as ye work by the way — Mark 11:19; 26: while inspecting fine buildings — Mark 13:1, 2; where you are — Deut. 7:6-9. Because we are obeying God rather than man, our civil Post, Grand Master, the Mayor, Harrison, and a host of ungodly Aldermen and Policemen, seconded by a herd of unconverted Protestant ministers, are sending us orders never to appear on the streets, never to sing, pray, or say a word concerning Christ, even on the threshold of our own doors.

The Free Masons, Odd-fellows, Roman Catholics etc., are permitted to exhibit all their idols, march in procession, blockade the streets, stop the business, and be a nuisance all over the city: the anarchists are permitted to go there together, have pic-nics, and throw bombshells, but the followers of Christ are forbidden to praise the name of God, or preach His Gospel on the streets. “If you do it,” says Ebersold, the chief Police, “you will be arrested.”

Do you understand now, readers of the GOSPEL TRUMPET, how Chicago is in darkness? Why don’t you come to our rescue, you people that stand in Christ, you dear saints, and help us. Ye strong in the Lord, strong in numbers, we will march to Zion through the hell’s gates of Chicago. If you cannot help us by your presence help, us by your means, and your prayers. We are also standing alone here. We rejoice in it: it is a good work. The Church of Christ will always be the Church of the few: “little flock.” To be a true Christian, a follower of Christ, is to be holy, separate from sinners, is to be a “stand alone in God.” Glory be to God! Alleluiah to Jesus! God is here in two stations: we get people converted and wholly sanctified. Every evening we have souls who make a full surrender of themselves at the altar. Chicago needs more workers. Come along “Trumpeters,” we want you with your “Songs of Victory” to make such music on the streets of Chicago, as to awaken its inhabitants, its slumbering shepherds, greedy dogs, blind watchmen, too lazy to walk, to preach for the sake of souls, too lazy to live. Come along, soldiers of the cross, and make Chicago tremble under the voice of the Trumpet.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

—:o:—

Urbana Kan., Nov. 29.

Dear Brethren: — May the richest of Heaven’s blessings rest upon you. I have just returned home from Woodston Rooks Co. Kan. We had a glorious meeting, and victory on the side of the Lord. Some six or eight sanctified wholly, and many others seeking. The whole country is stirred for miles around. These came out of old babylon. Hallelujah!

I have a great many more calls than I can possibly fill. O how I wish you were here to push the glorious battle on with me. Pray for me, and my companion, she is not well.

I remain your free Brother forever in Christ Jesus, and built in the Church of the First-born. Hallelujah to Jesus!

John P. Haner.

—:o:—

Jerry City, O. Dec. 6.

Dear Brethren: — I praise God that you are having such glorious victory. Praise our God forever and ever, for what He induing for us at this place. We were thinking of going South to work for the Lord, but at present it seems that the Lord will yet work wonders here. The Lord is adding to the Church, daily such as are being saved. O glory to God! Salvation has reached my household. Also Bro. Miller’s, and Bro. Caria’s. Mother C. felt happy in the Saviors love last night, having found salvation. Brother Hill is with us, preaching the Word straight. Glory be to God for His Word, it does my soul good.

Dear Brethren pray for us, that God may make us useful in saving souls. Love to all the dear saints, and especially your dear little company.

P. Spackey.

—:o:—

Jerry City, O., Dec. 6.

Dear Brethren: — May the Lord bless you more and more. O glory to God, in the highest! Let the loud sounding cymbals sing and rejoice as you read this. O praise God! my children are all saved, and happy in Jesus. O glory to God!

Bro’s. Spacky, Lea, and I, met at Bro. Guier’s, west of Weston, Nov. 27th, and held meeting over Sabbath 28. Five souls were saved, two of which were sanctified. O praise the Living God! for the fire I feel in my bones.

Dec. 10, we begin a meeting at brother Wm. Long’s in the same vicinity. We believe God will take the country there. Amen! Your Bro. saved and sanctified, and kept by the power of God.

Wm. H. Miller.

Brushy Prairie, Lagrange Co. Ind.

December 14.

Praise God! we have had victory in our meetings here. We continued holding meetings in that place, in a public hall 9 days. There were” several restored who had lost their faith in the Lord, and sanctified wholly. One family escaped out of babylon, and were wholly sanctified to God. Dear Bro’s. Yoder, and Greenewalt and their kind families live near this little burg, and are running a large farm. If the Lord will, they desire a grove or camp meeting next year. They have very beautiful shady groves, near springs and spring runs, a delightful place to serve the Lord.

A few days ago, we moved the meeting three miles west, to the house of Bro. Parker Gooding: where we held meetings Saturday night, Sabbath, and Monday night. Several made a deeper consecration, and were blessed of God. Bro. Rob’t. Gooding, whom God has called to preach the Gospel, had been for some time withdrawn from the sanctifying altar of God, here made his final consecration to the Lord, and claimed the all-cleansing blood May God wonderfully fill and use him in turning souls to righteousness, for His name’s sake.

To-day, dear brethren have brought us to the home of Bro. Sparling, six miles South-west of Lagrange, in which neighborhood we expect to stop a few days, and preach Jesus to the people.

Daniel.

—:o:—

Antwerp, O. Dec. 9.

Praise God! we are having glorious meetings in Bro. Henry Sweet’s house. The wicked, stoned down the door the other night. Bro. Sweet nailed it up, praising the Lord. Bro. Kilpatrick stopped preaching until the door was fixed, then he poured down the words of eternal truth, by the Holy Spirit and fire. The devil is a coward, and his servants ran as for life, some even running across the river. While the sectish spirits in the house looked as bland as if they took in the whole Word of God. Praise God for salvation full and free!

Your Bro. in Christ Jesus.

John H. Keesler.

—:o:—

Worstville. O. Dec. 10.

Dear Brethren: — I feel glorious in my soul this morning. Hallelujah! God has become my salvation. Bro. Kilpatrick myself, and seven other dear saints, went over to the Church of God west of Antwerp, find opened fire on the enemy at Bro. Sweet’s Saturday night. Glory to Jesus! the Lord blessed our coming together. On Sabbath, the Lord filled Bro. Kilpatrick and he spake as the Spirit gave him utterance, God saved two souls. And one poor, blind sectarian came to the altar when told by one, through the Spirit, her real condition, she confessed it was so, and had been for three years. But instead of getting salvation, she took her shawl and left. Such is the power of the sect spirit that few can escape from it. Returning on Wednesday might, we had meeting at Bro. J. N. Howard’s, and two souls went saved. Praise God! I am wonderfully saved, and filled with the power of God.

G. W. Howard.

—:o:—

Sedan, Kan. Nov. 17.

Dear Brethren in Christ: — May God bless you with all Spiritual blessing.

I am here at Sedan; commenced meeting in the city, Nov. 8th, ’86, in the name of King Jesus. God sent Bro. Charles R. Smith of Longton, to assist in the meeting. Glory to God! for fire-baptized soul.

We are thundering the straight Gospel in the ears of the people, and stout-hearted men are melting before the might truth of God. Hallelujah to God for victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!

We expect to go from here to Carry Valley, 5 miles East 0f here, the Lord willing. The Lord save the people for Jesus sake. We don’t know how long the meeting will continue here; the Lord leads.

Pray for us, beloved. Your saved Bro’s in Christ Jesus. Amen!

John H. Orr & Charles E. Smith.

—:o:—

Fowler, Mich. Dec. 6.

Dearly Beloved Saints: — We are saved and filled with the Mighty Jesus. Hallelujah! We left Lafayette, Gratiot Go., on the 29th of Nov. Before leaving, we had an ordinance meeting at Bro. Frank Reeves’s; the best I ever witnessed. O the mighty power of God melted us like wax. The whole room was an altar, and many were found on their knees; some were weeping, while others were praising God and shouting the glories of free salvation. Hallelujah to Jesus!

We arrived at sister Sarah Smith’s, one mile North, and two miles West of Fowler, Tuesday, the last day of the Month. Commenced meetings that night in the school- house near by. O the awful infidelity in that vicinity, caused by the ungodly lives of the sect members. The Word of God tells us that there will be anti-christs in the last days. So it is now everywhere; there were two at this meeting, one man who said he had preached in the same school-house, talked about the god of nature, but denied the Christ. The Lord was in us in great power on Lord’s day. In the evening the house was quite full and the Lord led us to preach from Isa. 10:3. The power of God was wonderful. Sinners wept and trembled. Some children came to the altar; the Lord blessed their little hearts, and they wept for joy. Some were so convicted that they wept, and were about to cry for mercy, when the devil got some of his children to arise and drag the poor sin-sick souls from the house. Then an anti-christ man, who called himself a Justice of the peace, arose and commanded us to stop: saying we had so

Page 3

powerfully charged the people with mesmerism, or electricity, that they could not stand it. Of course the poor sinners could not stand the power of God, neither can that miserable anti-christ stand the judgment day. We asked God for light, and He showed us there was nothing there to build on, except a few children, and some young people. But the parents would not, let them come to Christ. So we shake the dust from our feet, and leave them. We expect to hold a few meetings, and then go on South if God permits.

Your Bro’s. saved, sanctified, and kept without spot or wrinkle, or any such thing.

Correspondence.

—:o:—

Woodston, Kan.

Dear Brethren: — How glad I am to hear you sound the clear notes of the GOSPEL TRUMPET. I am made acquainted with you through Bro. J. P. Haner who has been laboring among us a few days. It has not been an uncertain sound; we have heard.

I have been saved and sanctified over 21 years, but have worn the galling sect, yoke until it has taken my head off, and I am dead indeed unto all sects. I have been a sect member for thirty years: but for the last few years I have felt the sect life ebbing out. About six weeks ago Bro. Brooks was giving me a report from the Fall Conference dwelling largely on one brother’s failing to obey discipline, in being subject to the powers that be. I said, in reply, Bro. Brooks, such works as that make me feel like taking my name off the sect book. The sect I belonged to, (Wesleyan Methodist) professes to believe in holiness, but for years, when giving testimony of the saving power of Jesus’ blood, I have been responded to in such a sarcastic, critical way, that I almost lost the grace by failing to give straight testimony.

O how I groaned for deliverance, being burdened, but did not know how to get free, though long since my sect has been no more to me than any other, and I have taken the saved ones in the various sects for my brethren and sisters, and have often decided to come out, wholly on the Lord’s side; and now I thank God that He has sent Bro. Haner here to preach the straight Word to us, so I need not be alone. Truly the Lord has given that young Bro. a wonderful illumination on the Scriptures, and he is a flaming sword in the hands of God wherever he goes.

But one thing beloveds, let us not indulge in a sarcastic, sneering manner when dealing with the sects, let us hold them (the members) up to the throne of grace by prayer and faith. Let us keep the sweet Spirit of Jesus, for we will only repel, instead of winning, by a sarcastic manner.

Your sister in Christ.

Dear Brethren: — I am all the Lord’s this morning, walking in all the light God gives me, and I am determined to always serve the Lord. I love to read the TRUMPET, I cannot afford to do without it.

Dear Brethren: — My testimony is, that I am saved and sanctified, and walking in the light as God gives it to me. I praise His holy name for His saving and heating power in my family. The blood cleanses me from all sin just now. Glory to God forever! this body is often so filled with the mighty power of God that it seems the poor earthen vessel must break. He has saved me from taking His name in vain, and from the intoxicating cup: and glory to God forever! He saves me from the use of tobacco, to which I had been a slave for 40 years. And God has taken the appetite away from me. Glory to Jesus!

I ask the prayers of all God’s people, that, I may remain a faithful and ready servant of Christ. I know that I have all on the altar for time and eternity, and I am saved. Glory to God!

Your brother in Christ Jesus.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — You can hardly realize how glad I am to hear from you through the TRUMPET. May God bless you all and keep you until your labor of love is done on earth, and then we will all meet in Heaven. My son-in-law died last March and before his death he called me to his bed-side; I pointed him to the Lamb of God, who was ready to receive a poor sin- sick soul. In a few days he passed away, requesting me to point his wife to the same Savior who had so mercifully saved him. I did, and she too has found the Savior. Glory be to God for His loving kindness to me. I know Jesus loves and saves me from all sin. I am all the Lord’s, soul and body, washed and cleansed in His blood.

Your Brother,

Dear Brethren: — This morning finds me saved, washed and redeemed in the precious blood of Jesus, who died on calvary to redeem us from this wicked world. I do praise the Lord for calling after me, and taking my feet out of the mire, and placing me on the Solid Rock, Christ Jesus, where I will forever abide. O how it fills my soul with glory to see souls saved.

Dear brethren pray for us that we may prove faithful to the end.

Dear Brethren: — I am saved, washed and redeemed through the precious blood of Jesus. Yesterday was the Lord’s day, and Bro. and sister Smith, and Bro. and sister Shelly were here to the Barton school- house, and the Lord saved souls. Hallelujah to God! Oh the mighty power of God was here! Praise the Lord forever and ever for saving my soul from this wicked world. O glory to Jesus forever and ever! Pray for us that we may stand stedfast, immovable, that souls may be brought to Christ. Your Bro. sanctified wholly through the precious blood of Jesus, and kept by the mighty power of God each day and moment.

Dear Brethren: — My testimony is, I am well and saved with an everlasting salvation. Praise the Lord! We are out on the promise and render the blood, and it fills my soul with glory to work for the saving of poor lost souls. After the camp meeting in Gratiot Co., I left all to follow Jesus. We went first to Shiawassee Co., held meeting there one week where there had been no meetings for nine years. One started to follow the Lord, and there was a wonderful stir among the dry bones.

We went from there to Genesee, where we held meeting two weeks. There was one soul saved, three baptized, and eight followed in the ordinances of feet-washing and Lord’s supper. Praise the Lord!

O I do praise God for salvation that saves and keeps me from all sin. We expect to go farther North and hold a meeting. Your sister under the blood and sanctified to God.

Dear Brethren: — I have taken the TRUMPET over five years and I cannot do without it. It affords me much comfort when I read the straight and true doctrine of the Bible, and the many testimonies of the saints. My testimony is that I am rejoicing in a full and free salvation. I belong to the Church of the First-born, and I know my name is written in Heaven. I am saved and sanctified through the truth. May the blessings of Heaven rest down upon you for Jesus’ sake.

Dear Brethren: — We can say to the glory of God that we are saved in Jesus. Praise His holy name! We are having our trials and persecutions, and we want all the saints to pray for us. We have been preaching the straight Word of God, and it is stirring up the sects. There are only four that are out of babylon, and on the straight Word of God. One sister is going to be a terror to evil doers. Glory to God and the Lamb forever, for His wonderful works to the children of men!

Your Bro. and sister saved and tried as by fire. May the God of peace be with you all. Amen!

Dear Brethren: — I praise God for salvation. O I am so thankful that I am completely saved from sects, and all their evil works. I went to the sect meeting to-day; but there was no food for the soul there. I don’t see how I was so blind as to think they were the Church. Well, I have no desire to go back, for there is nothing to go back to. I stayed there until I was starved to death spiritually. But when I came to Jesus, He forgave me all my sins, and afterward sanctified my nature. Yours in Christ.

Dear Brethren: — I do praise God for the TRUMPET; it is food for my soul. I am saved and sanctified, and walking in the light of Jesus. Praise the Lord!

I do praise the Lord for healing my body. I was sick for seven years, and the Doctor said I could never get well; but the Lord completely healed me, and I am well, and praising Him both night and day. Dear Brethren: — I have shown several of the holiness brethren and Evangelists your article in reply to Bro. D. M. Creighton, and they are well pleased with it. They would like to have you write an article on the subject of baptism. The anti- ordinance teachers make it a condition of salvation, and say if we are saved we will walk in their light. This Quaker heresy has caused much division, and about ruined the Good Way. Some of the evangelists of Mo. have gone off with this false doctrine. Having loosed from the Rock of God’s Word, they do not stop at rejecting the ordinances of Christ, but some teach that there is no hell, others, that there is no Heaven, and say it is only an experience, and they are running into many other heresies. In direct opposition to the Word of God, they say that Christ instituted no ordinances, and that the Apostles taught and practiced them through ignorance, etc. And that these ordinances are the tap root of sectism. Their bands, in a great many places, are torn to pieces by their many divisions, on account of which, some of them are becoming discouraged. J. W. Caughlan has turned a good many against you. He lost salvation when the Good Way was taken out of his hands, and he went and joined the Southern Methodist sect.

O Brother how I desire to see your face, and hear you preach the everlasting Gospel. Can you not come to Mo.? I believe God would wonderfully use you to His glory in this State. If the Lord wills, come.

I am determined to be true to God, if every soul in Mo. were to turn back. O glory to God! I am standing on the sea of mingled with fire. God is love, Christ is all in all.

Dear Brethren: — I praise God for salvation full and free. Last evening we held a meeting at Bro. John Christy’s of this place, and witnessed the presence of the Lord in mighty power. One sectarian who had been preaching sectarianism for more than a year, acknowledged that he had no guide save his own conscience, and seemed to be sincere in the belief that he had received all the grace there was for him. My God! have mercy on all such.

Dear Brethren, pray for the salvation of souls in this part of the Lord’s vineyard.

St Louis Mich.

I would like to give you, and all the TRUMPET readers my experience on my Heavenly way. I am now sixty-six years old, and commenced my Christian warfare when about twenty-one years of age, and was immersed. I joined the Disciples, as I believed them to take the New Testament, and that only for their faith and practice. I got along with them till I came to Mark 16:17, 18. I expected to see those signs with the Disciples of Christ; but alas! those signs were not to be found there. Ho I left there and came to Mich., still looking for those believers that Jesus spake of, and found none; notwithstanding the people seemed to enjoy the Holy Ghost. But there was something lacking, the signs of Jesus were not there. At length the Holy Ghost came down from Heaven and filled my soul to such a fulness that I began to enjoy Christ’s saving power. Hallelujah! My faith got stronger and stronger, and I longed to be with the pure in heart, trusting in God and not man. About that time the light, burst forth into my heart and showed to me that there is a people in these days that have those signs following them. I sold out and moved to Isabella Co., and spent some over a year there with the Disciple brethren, thinking surely the signs of believers in Christ would be there. But right to the reverse: they said they were for the apostles, and not for us. I could not prevail on them to believe the truth, so I left them and came to Gratiot Co. where I now reside, and while here I heard of the saints. There I met with those whom I had so long been looking for. They have the signs following them. Praise the Lord! He is working in the hearts of the little ones. O what joy! I can say as Peter, James, and John, in the mount, “It is good to be here.” Praise the Lord! I am satisfied that the saints are the people of God, and God is with them, working signs and wonders in the name of Christ. Glory to God in the hightest! I am saved by the blood of Christ. Amen!

My wife desires the prayers of the saints for the healing of her afflicted body.

Dear Brethren: — I do praise God for what He has done for me, and many others. I wish to say to the glory of God that I am walking in all the light, the Lord gives me. I thank God that I ever gave my heart to Jesus, for I was a very rude fellow. Oh I thank the Lord for ever showing me the beauty of honoring my father and mother, which is the first commandment with promise. Eph. 6:2. Praise the Lord for His blessed promises! First the Lord showed me that every bad word and act that I said, or did, was dishonoring my parents. Now I would say to all who are dishonoring their parents in word or act, Oh give your heart to Jesus. The Word says, Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts, and let him return unto the Lord, and He will have mercy upon him, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon. — Isa 55:7. Dear Brethren: — Jesus has led me out of bondage, and made me a free child of God. O I do praise God for salvation full and free. I belonged to the U. B. sect, but last August God sent Bro. Kilpatrick, and a few of the dear saints here to preach the straight-light of God. The first meeting I went to, I was convicted, and made up my mind that I must do something, or be forever lost. I went to Jesus for the pardon of my sins, and the next day, I went for entire sanctification, but did not obtain the witness until the 14th of Oct.

O I do praise God for salvation! He has planted a little Vineyard in this place. We have meeting twice a week; the blessed Jesus meets with us, and He is our leader. O how sweet it is to be free from every creed, and work of men. O praise God that I ever came out of darkness into this glorious light. Dear Brethren: — I feel led to write my testimony for Jesus; for He has saved me, and He keeps me by His mighty power. It has been a long time since I have written; but glory to Jesus! He has kept me saved. We have been having glorious meetings in the name of Jesus. Bro. Wm. Smith, and Bro. Shelly have been holding meetings at our house, and we have the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Sectarians were brought to the light, and prodigals returned to Father’s house, and seven dear souls were buried with Christ in baptism, and the Church wonderfully strengthened. May God bless and keep those dear brethren, and make them powerful men in His Vineyard. O this full and free salvation that makes perfect men and women for the Master. NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

—:o:—

Brushy Prairie, Ind., Dec. 4.

We found the Church of the First- born at Payne O. and surrounding country in the Spirit and power of God. The Lord adding to the Church frequently such as are being saved. Praise the Lord! God’s Church does not hold protracted meetings to get up a revival; for the revival lasts the whole year round. The power of God present to convict sinners, and melt stony hearts, is the normal state of God’s Church.

Saturday, Nov.. 27, dear Bro. Howard came in with his team and took our little company out to his place, and that night we had a glorious meeting in the school- house. The next night at Bro. Howard’s, many saints met in the Spirit. One soul converted, others seeking. That night we had access to the school-house again, which was crowded, the sect devil being there in force as well as a host of saints. God gave us power over all the power of the adversary, and liberty in pouring out the vials of His wrath and indignation upon the worshipers of the beast, and his image. Many sinners were deeply convicted, three came to the altar. Two of whom were gloriously blessed and saved. One was a member of a sect and also of a secret society; when she promised to leave all to follow Jesus, the fire from Heaven came instantly into her heart, and, like the man healed at the beautiful gate of the temple, she sprang up, leaped and shouted the praises of God.

Dear Bro. J. N. Howard has been standing firm for God in that place. As God said to Jeremiah. “Behold I have put my words into thy mouth. See, I have set thee this day over the nations, and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build and to plant.

Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces lest I confound thee before them. For behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brazen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land. And they shall fight against thee: but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the Lord, to deliver thee”. — Jer. 1:9, 10, 17-19.

So the grace of God in this dear brother has enabled him to make havoc upon the vile cages of deception, and unsheathe the powerful two-edged Sword of the Lord against the priests of baal, and all the deceived, subverted, sinning sectarians. And truly they of gog and magog have fought against the brother, but have not prevailed. Recently God has delivered his father out of the black smoking debris of burned babylon. He was a dead sect preacher, but God has pulled him out of the fire, justified, sanctified, and filled him with the Holy Spirit. Praise God! he may well leap and rejoice over his escape from her plagues. Also God has saved Bro. Howard’s brother and three sisters recently: one, while we were there. And the dear old mother too was seeking the Lord. We hope to hear of her joyful reception into the Kingdom of Heaven. O may God save the entire family!

During the Sabbath, dear Brother J. E. Williams and Menno Yoder, arrived there, having come about 72 miles with a team from Brushy Prairie, Lagrange Co. Ind., to bring us and company here to labor for the Lord. Dear Bro. H. Shaner also took his team, and on Monday night we readied Bro. and Sister Yaringlon’s. six miles west of Antwerp. As we came into the neighborhood the news was sounded out, and soon the house was filled with people to hear the words of eternal life, most of whom were saints. After reading and talking a short time, five souls came to the altar. Some restored, and others consecrated for entire sanctification. Dear Bro. John Keeser, a young man who had been saved and healed of consumption when we were there in August, having been overthrown by the devil, came back to God and was joyfully restored.

When we lauded there we began to think of our bodies, and felt sorry the word had gone out for a meeting. We had been up, some until 12, and others till 2 o’clock the night before, and wishing to start by daylight, to make a 55 mile drive the next day, it seemed that rest was a matter of necessity. But as the people came together, our hearts burdened for lost souls, soon forgot circumstances, and the meeting continued to eleven o’clock. All glory to our God, who is “able to make all grace abound unto us, so that we always having all sufficiency, in all things, may abound unto every good work.”

After meeting closed, the restored Bro. K. walked three miles to his home and back, and accompanied us in the morning to work for the Master. The Lord gave us very propitious weather to make the entire trip. And now we are here with the glory in our soul. We find some blessed saints here. Dear Bro. J. E. williams, and sister Jane Castle have been here holding up the light of God for some time, and God has blessed their labors. We have a good building, and the work is starting in gloriously. Some saints who were somewhat on back ground have already been filled with the Holy Spirit, and one soul renounced babylon, consecrated all to God, and was sanctified. Many convicted, pray for us. We are wonderfully filled with the Spirit and power of God.

ANOTHER VICTORY FOR THE LORD.

—:o:—

IN THE FIELD NEAR NEW PITTSBURG IND., DEC. 3 1886.

After our departure from Henderson Pa., from which place we reported our last operations in the glorious war, we moved our forces to Jay Co. Ind., where we met the dear Brethren who were all ready for the holy war, and were waiting our arrival. O glory to God! how glad we were to meet the dear saints; they were also greatly comforted by our coming. We began the holy war the same night we reached the field of battle, notwithstanding we had been riding all night on Nahum’s chariots, we being filled with holy fire and zeal, could not forbear to fight. We held meeting in the school-house near Brother Henry, Wickersham’s, the house was not large enough to accommodate the people. We could only have the house for about ten days, so we put in our time faithfully. On monday morning Nov. 29, we were re-enforced by Bro’s John U. and George S. Bryant from Beaver Dam Ind. We were no little comforted by their coming. O glory to God for the sweet, fellowship of the saints! The Lord wonderfully refreshed us by His Spirit and power. Souls were saved nearly every day, and others restored. The Church was greatly strengthened by the power of God, and the addition of members. The saints are now full of courage, and are mighty to the pulling down of the strong holds of sin and babylon. O what glorious meetings we had each day: the melting fire from the sacred altar of God in Heaven was scattered into our midst, which caused voices like mighty thunderings, which we are sure must have been re-echoed in Heaven above. During this few day’s meeting there were six claimed pardon, four sanctified, three restored. We go from here to Pleasant grove meeting house near where Bro. Isaac Key Jives.

God bless all the dear saints everywhere. Amen! We have had a blessed meeting here; about 20 souls converted and sanctified. The last night of the meeting the Free Methodists tried to capture the Lambs, but could not get them into their pen. There is a glorious little band here. I pray God to keep them straight for Him, tree from the sect pens which proceed from hell. Keep them baptized by the one Spirit into the one body, Christ, the Church. Praise God! I am ready for the field; ready to answer any call within my reach in this section of the country.

The blood cleanseth me from all sin this moment, and the very God of peace sanctifies me wholly.

Yours under the cleansing blood.

I am in the glory land, saved and sanctified by the blood. Glory be to our God forever and ever! O how my heart goes out to the dear saints all over the land, and especially to those that have taken their lives in their hands and are in the field spreading the great truths of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. My prayer is, O Lord give success to Thy workmen.

The Lord is with us in Hamilton in His saving power. A number of precious souls have started for glory. Praise our God!

FOR GOSPEL TRUMPET.

TO the “Church of God.” I praise God for salvation from sin now. I am out of babylon; was added to the “Church,” the “True Vine,” “the fold,” by repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ,” Feb. 22nd, 1882, was sanctified by faith, Sept. 23d, 1883.

Glory to God! God says to me “preach the Word, with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven.” — 1 Peter 1.

I have been buried with Him (Christ) by baptism into death. I believe we ought to keep the ordinances, baptism, washing the saint’s feet, and the Lord’s’ Supper. I believe all of God’s Word; believe in preaching the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Amen! God is wonderfully shaking the people here; the truth is cutting its way through. We have to gain every inch of ground by the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. — Eph, 6:17. Bless God! it is “sharper than any two-edged sword.”

I have only read a few copies of TRUMPET. Some think it too radical, too crazy, and fanatic: but God tells me you are on the Bible line. I have tried the spirits. I used to think you went to extremes, as follows, to wit, — being baptized again after coming out of babylon, when baptized by immersion before.

Bro. Haner’s article in TRUMPET of Nov. 15, gives some new light on that, but some do not understand it yet.

Also, I do not understand the term priest, calling the sect preachers “sect priests,” the name I see frequently in the paper. Now Brethren I want to call things by their right names, and suppose you do too. Please give light on calling them “priests.” O I do love this radical, definite, sin-destroying work: it is of God.

Paul was radical, yes, and Jesus was radical, and bless God! He makes me radical. The more radical I am, the more God blesses me. Praise His name!

“Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever.” — Heb. 13:8. “I will never leave these, nor forsake thee.” — Heb. 13:7. Glory to Jesus! we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.” “Nothing shall be able to separate us from the love, of God, winch is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” — Rom. 6:39. “This is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” — John 5:4. “Love is the fulfilling of the law.” — Rom. 13:10. “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly, and I pray God your whole spirit, and soul, and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord. Jesus Christ. Faithful is He that calleth you, who also will do it,” — 1 These. 5:23, 24.

Brethren pray for me, and this field, for the harvest is great, but the laborers are few, and the enemy strong. Pray for me, that God may work in me, to will and to do of His good pleasure. “Farewell, be perfect.” — 2 Cor. 13; 11.

J. B. Slagle.

NOTE.

The title priest, applies to any one officiating in matters of religion, whether of God, or whether a devotee of a false system. The name is applied to God’s true ministers in the following places, and in many others — Psalms, 132:9. 16. Isa. 61:6. Rev. 1:6; 5:10. 20:6.

To false prophets and teachers — Isa. 24:1-5. Jer. 1:18. 5:31. 6:13. 23:11. Micah 3:11. Zeph. 3:4.

Most of the instances in Rev. apply to all the saints: they being Spiritual priests to offer unto God their own sacrifices of praise, etc. The instances in prophecy, referring to false priests, about all relate to the false teachers of the present apostate sect religion. Some of them may refer to corrupt Jewish priests, but even they are a type of the present hirelings of sectarian babylon, hence indirectly refer to them. Priests, prophets, and shepherds, are the names most commonly used in prophecy, when speaking of the corrupt preachers of these days. Though we may have no New Testament example for calling sectarian preachers, priests, we have prophetic example, and as the word priest properly represents any person officiating in religious rites, and because it is the term that is in common used in speaking of the ministry of all the false religions on earth, we see no impropriety in using the term in application to sectish hirelings.

Dear Brethren: — I once more give in my testimony in the name or our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who is my high priest. He keeps me saved and hid in the Father all the time. Glory to Jesus forever! He keeps me sanctified, and without sin.

Hallelujah! What more shall I say, or what, more CAN I say, to glorify the Father and the Son for what they have done for me, and for all the dear saints.

The Lord keep the ministers whom He has chosen to preach His pure Word, filled with the almighty power of God, to cast out devils, all manner of evil spirits; and to manifest the gift of healing the sick, and giving sight to the blind, by the laying on of hands, in greater power than ever before. And let this power be given to open the hearts of the wicked, so that they may have eyes to see, and ears to hear, and be saved. Amen!

I would write a little to the clear saints in regard to my visit at the TRUMPET OFFICE, and at Bro. Joseph Smith’s, who has built a house, by the blessing of God, for the worship of the Lord. Sometimes the building is too small to accommodate all who come. Glory to God! Before I left York State, I bad not met any of the saints, wholly out of babylon. There were some who claimed to be out, but were tainted with her wine I used to let some of them have my TRUMPET to read, but they thought it was too radical on sect babylon. My own experience is, the more Christ-like I was, when I belonged to the Free-will Baptist sect, the less I thought of my sect. I could not see why there should not be union and fellowship of all saints, as one in Christ Jesus. Glory to God! The devil can’t deceive me any more on sects. If there are good saints in the sects, the sooner they escape out of her, the better, for they are in danger of her plagues. Her preachers tell us that no one can live without sin. How do they read God’s Word?

I am writing to those who think they are out of the sects, but still go to hear sect preachers. Come fully out, and stand complete in Christ. Leave off that goodly babylonish garment and obey the Word of your Lord, and let Him lead you into all truth.

Well the glory of God that I have met in the Churches in this vicinity, is far beyond my expectation; there had not one half been told. O such wonderful love the saints have for each-other. I attended prayer meeting at Bro. Jos. Smith’s, on Friday eve. of the first week of my visit at Grand Junction. Bro. Smith always sends his son to the Junction on Friday nights, and on Sabbaths, (three miles and a half) to bring those dear saints to meeting. They generally stay till after Sabbath evening meeting, then they take them home again.

O how God meets with the little ones there in every meeting. I have been wonderfully blessed and strengthened in the Spirit. I can truly say; the saints do know each-other. And what warm shaking of hands, and greeting with a holy kiss, and the usual salutation, “Glory to God and the Lamb.” We know His voice as soon as He speaks through His little ones, but strangers we will not follow. All glory to Jesus for the truth, which has made us free. Praise the Lord!

God keep the sheep and the lambs, and the true shepherds whom He has chosen to feed the flock of God, who are laboring without any hire for the salvation of souls, and to prepare the Bride in her beautiful robe of righteousness. Amen!

Your Bro. saved and sanctified.

Josiah Reed.

Dear Brethren: — I praise God for sending some of His saints to this place.

About a year ago Sister Alice Davis, and Sister Nannie Donnell came here to hold a meeting. I attended, almost every night; the more I went, the more I wanted to go. I could feel that God was with His people, as they preached the straight Word of God, and O how the sect devil did howl and foam, for he thought his craft was in danger. Praise God! it was.

There are two such crafts in this place and they have been sinking ever since. I never had a sect spirit, and I enjoyed, even when a sinner, ts see them howl for babylon. — Jer. 51:8.

Praise the Lord! they put the Sword on me too. I knew I was a sinner, and needed salvation, and I drank in all the Word. But the devil had me in his power by the use of tobacco; that was my idol, and he tried to make me believe I could not give it up. Bu I still went to meeting, and I often wished when I heard the dear ones shouting and praising God, that I could feel as they did, but the meeting closed and I was not saved.

About the same, time Bro. Fisher and his little band came to Henderson, about 9 miles from here. I went up there one night, and as I went into the house they were singing “The Hand of God on the Wall.” and O it was heavenly music. I felt more and more the need of salvation, but came home without it. I went back to meeting on Saturday, and’ Sunday morning the Lord pardoned all my sins. Praise His holy name forever! After meeting, O how the devil did come to me with tobacco I had some in my pocket, and the devil tempted me so strong that I took one chew but praise God! it was the last. I threw it out of my mouth, and emptied my packet of all the filthy stuff. That might the Lord sanctified my soul, and took the appetite for tobacco away from me. Praise the Lord! I have never had any desire for it since. O how I do bless God for salvation that cleanses us from all sin. Blessed be God! He is filling me with His power more and more every day. The babylonians are raging on account of the few saints in this place.

It pleased God some five or six week ago, to send Bro. Fisher and a little ban of His saints here to hold a meeting. And praise the Lord! there was a good work done.

I ask God’s little ones to pray for me that I may ever stand firm. My testimony is, I am saved and sanctified, and keep by the power of God every day, and filled with His glory continually.

Dear Brethren: — My testimony the evening is, that I am fully saved and sanctified. Glory to God for His keeping power, that keeps me just now. I am for from all sects. O I praise God for the TRUMPET, which led me out into the true light. I have been led by the blind, an d I find that the blind cannot lead the blind for they will both fall into the ditch. I fi.. that Jesus is the way, and if a man tries a climb up any other way, he is a thief and a robber. I ask the prayers of all saints.

From your brother.

Dearly Beloved Brethren of the GOSPEL TRUMPET, and to the saints scattered abroad greeting. I wish to give my testimony … the honor and glory of God. I am saved just now, and rejoicing ever more. O what a blessed glowing experience I have had since the assembly meeting. True “I have reached the summit, where the golden sunlight gleams.” My soul is filled continually with the sweet peace of God no more disturbing elements within, by all is calm and placid as a sea of glass.

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall now want. He maketh me to lie down in great pastures, and leadeth me by still waters.

O praise His name forever! The dear blessed Lord is wonderfully blessing His children at this place; showers of blessing come down in their seasons. Bless the Lord! there was great joy in Heaven, and on earth, as Bro’s. Fred Fuller and Thu’.. Gould got down before God, and were saved. Bro. Gould has been drifting away from God ever since the June camp meeting, until he awoke and saw his condition and acknowledged his backslidden state. O how good the Lord is! I pray the Lord to keep them both, and fill them with His mighty power. The Lord has been leading us of late to go North to work for the salvation of souls, and He has opened the way for us to go, in putting it into the heart of Bro. Gould to take us up to East Jordan. There is a door open for us there to hold a meeting: also at Charlevoix village there is a door open for us, as a sister of Bro. Gillard, of Covert is living there and wants some of God’s ministers to come there and hold a meeting. Also farther up toward Cheboygan, they are waiting for some one to come. It the Lord wills, we expect to sow seed in all these places.

O pray, dear brethren, that it may bring forth thirty, sixty, and an hundred fold. Dear ones, I am praying for you. O pray for me, that I may be firm, and never fall away from my own steadfastness.

We are on our way now to our field of labor. The Lord bless and keep you all in His love. Amen!

Your saved Brother.

W. B. Grover.
