THE END OF TRUE AND FALSE RELIGION.

—:o:—

Pure religion in the heart,
Bids the gloom of sin depart.
All is light as perfect day,
When the mists have cleared away.
Then our Master, King and Priest,
Is our Savior Jesus Christ.

By His Spirit through the Word,
We have full salvation heard,
And received into our hearts,
All the fulness Grace imparts.
From division pens we’re free;
Jesus Christ we only see.

Lost, enveloped in His love,
Moving in His will above,
Sectish elements of night,
Are consumed in evening light.
In the Church of God we stand,
Sects for us have no demand.

We’re complete in Christ alone;
For us all He did atone.
Truth came forth, divisions fell,
Which were leading souls to hell;
Through deceptive schemes to blight,
Hearts were kept from Heaven’s light

But the brighter days are here:
Now despondent hopes are clear.
Babel frauds are brought to light,
And their sectish creeds of night,
All have fallen to the earth.
They are withered, filled with dearth.

All her priests are in the bog,
Knowing not the love of God.
Lapsed into empty form,
Heaven’s promises they scorn.
Enthralled in sin and awful chains
Of darkness, where confusion reigns.

Their systems now have crumbled
Dilapidated fanes are found; (down,
A direful sight, beholds the eye,
Where cages of deception lie.
Now the doltish sleeping mass,
Soon will hear the judgment crash.

Dealing tones from Heav’n will break;
Their foundation then will shake.
Consternation fill their souls.
When the Gospel thunders roll.
Guilty slumbering souls to wake.
From their wretched dormant state.

Blasted all their hopes of Heav’n,
Into darkness they’ll be driv’n;
There to suffer pain and woe,
In the regions down below.
Where the gorgons wail and moan,
They shall make their endless doom.

Is salvation just a form?
Making fragile and forlorn?
No! we do concisely feel
Our Redeemer’s holy seal.
Saved by Grace, and in the light,
Clad in robes of crystal white,

Walking with the Lord below.
This the way we love to go;
Filled with perfect love divine,
Sweetly reigning all the time.
Jesus is our only Head,
By His Spirit we are led

Into all His paths of peace.
Thus He keeps us pure and free.
Making life a jubilee.
He has promised thus to do;
And His words are ever true.

But the mass have left the Word,
And His promises discard.
See the ostentatious crowd,
Marching on the downward road,
Intermingled with the world.

In despair they shall be hurled,
When the final end shall come.
Foolish virgins then will run
From the “glory of His power;”
Seeking rocks to find a shelter.

But the rocks will never hide,
For the wrath they can’t abide.
But the holy saints shall rise,
On a cloud into the skies,
To dwell with Christ and all the blest,
In their happy home of rest.

THE EVENING LIGHT.

—:o:—

THE christian era is represented in the Scriptures, as a day, of which the morning dawned by the approach of the morning star in the East, which made known to the wise men of the East, the place where Christ was born. He who was born king of the Jews; a Savior and Redeemer of mankind, and “the Son of the … … … … … against, which He said: “The gates of hell shall not prevail.” He is the fountain spoken of by Zechariah the prophet, who said: “In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and uncleanness.” His birth was foretold in these worth. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. — Isa. 9:6, 7.

Although meek and lowly, and of humble birth, this prophecy was fulfilled, for he was able to confound the wise men, and was greater than the kings and nobles of the earth; and “the people were astonished at his doctrine for he taught as one having authority, and not as the scribes.” He went about preaching and saying: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” He also healed the sick, worked many miracles, and gave gifts unto men. It was during the period of His reign upon earth, and of His followers for a few centuries afterward, that the morning of this great day of christianity shone forth in all its brightness by the splendor of the Church which Christ established upon earth. All worked together in the unity of the Spirit, and it was then that great and marvelous things were performed through them by the power of God; and great pentecostal showers came upon them, for they were members of Christ; “pure even as He is pure;” living holy lives; free from all sin, for they had entered the door — which is Christ — which made them members of the true Church of the living God. They belonged to no creed, neither had they need of any such thing, because Christ says “I am the door,” “and he is the head of the body, the Church.”

“And it shall come to pass in that day, saith it the Lord God, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day.” — Amos 8:6. This is a prophecy of spiritual darkness which came upon the earth when the beast rose out of the sea. Rev. 13th chapter. This beast received its power from the dragon.

Ami it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. — Rev. 13:7, 8.

The beast spoken of here is a power rising among the people, which is Roman Catholocism. They had the control and governing of the civilized world at that time, and overcame the saints by forcing them to obey their rigid laws; and those who refused to do so were put to death or tortured in some way. Then came a time of famine of the Word of God. “Behold the days come, saith the Lord God, that I wili send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing of the words of the Lord.” — Amos 8:11.

After the Roman Catholics came in power, the pope assumed the name of Vicegerent of the Son of God; trying to make himself equal to or greater than Christ, by declaring himself the head of the Church. The common people were not allowed to read the Word of the Lord. Only monks, or such as were leaders of this carnal sect were allowed this privilege. At one time the Bibles were ordered to be burned in order to keep the people in ignorance. But there came a time when this beast (Roman Catholocism) received a deadly wound by the second beast (Protestantism) which rose out of the earth. At about this time a gleam of light broke forth; the Bible was translated into differer.. ..ges, and the people began to … ..rd of the Lord and … ..s a great time of reformation. But soon those protesting against Roman Catholocism, were organized into creeds and orders, according to their different beliefs and customs, which led to divisions and confusion, thus forming a babel of tongues. These sect divisions of babylon confusion caused a veil, or dark cloud to remain, so as to prevent the clear Gospel light from spreading as it should. This was the time spoken of by Zechariah 14:5, 7.

Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God; Repent and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations. For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojoumeth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to inquire of him concerning me; I the Lord will answer him by myself.

Blessed be the name of the Lord! The bright morning has passed away, also the dark noonday, and the dark and cloudy time, and as was foretold by the prophets; the glorious evening light is now shining upon us; the pure Gospel is once more being preached regardless of all opposition and sectarian belief. The Children of the Lord are being led out of denominational, or babylon captivity, and are entirely free in Christ Jesus, having the bilbe only, for their discipline, and the Holy Ghost leads them into the ways of all truth. In union is strength: and this union is caused by the blending of God’s Holy Spirit in His children, which keeps them unspotted from the world, with hearts full of “pure and undefiled religion before God.”

Notwithstanding the earnest pleadings of the Savior, to flee the wrath to come; and the fulfillment of the many prophecies which note the end of time, people still go on with their vain religions; worshiping their idols, and fashions of the world. But lo! “Babylon is fallen,” and has become as a burnt over mountain. “Babylon hath been a golden cup in the hands of the Lord,” but is suddenly fallen. That is, these denominations have been the means of doing much good; but the time of the fulfillment of the prophecy is come upon them, and their power with the Lord is destroyed. Although they still go on professing, having a form of godliness but denying the power. “Wherefore come out from among them and be ye separate, saith the Lord.” And the Lord gives another direct command saying: “Come out of her my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” In these last times as the evening light shines forth with the brightness and splendor of the Lord. His children stand upon the “sea of glass,” and walk upon the highway of holiness, singing and shouting praises to God and the Lamb; ever abounding in His love, with continual victory in their souls.

NO USE FOR HIM.

—:o:—

A MAN who signs his name Abraham Johnson, of Dixon, Pulaski Co. Mo.. writes us a letter in which he offers his services to become the devil’s reporter for the TRUMPET. But we have no use for him, as the TRUMPET is a one sided sheet, wholly devoted to the good tidings of the kingdom of Heaven, and the glory of God, but “giving no place to the devil.” He says: “If you will open your columns to me, and publish the failures to heal in these parts, I will send for your paper.” “Now if you are laboring for the glory of God, and His kingdom, you certainly will not object.” That is just what we are doing, and hence we have no time and space to give to the kingdom of unbelief, and fanaticism. Our friend Mr. Johnson may, for what we know have good motives, and think his service all reasonable. But if so he is laboring under a mistaken notion. In every case where persons are attempted to be healed, and not successful, it is because of a lack of righteousness and faith on the part of either the sick, or the parties praying for them, or both; … … in such cases where God sees best for the person’s soul to suffer at present, or to even take them out of the world. The publishing of the Gospel, either by the voice or by the press, is to produce faith in the hearts of the people. This we can do by proclaiming the Word of God, by which faith comes, and the wonderful works of God wrought in answer to prayer, by which faith is quickened and strengthened and thereby men and women become saved and healed, and God glorified. But what good can we do by publishing the results of unbelief? Such can only result in the increased fruits of unbelief, sin, and misery. Satan has plenty of papers under his control that are ready to do his work, but our calling is wholly in the direction of doing men good, instead of helping them to suffering and sins here, and hell hereafter.

One cause of failures in healing is through the devil’s own instruments, who are employed by him, to attempt the work of healing on purpose to bring reproach upon the true work of God. Missouri has its share of them, as well as every other place. Some are possessed with devils, others partly well meaning but deluded. We have to space to report the wretched failures of the devil’s instruments. Again it is often the case that attempts at healing, fail wholly on account of a lack of consecration and faith on the part of the afflicted. Jesus required faith on their part, and so He does yet, in all cases where there is an ability to consecrate, and believe. Sick persons often call God’s ministers to come and pray for their healing when they are not spiritually where God wants them. It is our duty to go and labor with them, and if possible lead them to make a complete consecration to God, when they seldom fall of being healed; but if they do not teach as glorious monat of holiness and I …, we have thine our duty. There is … sense or justice in reporting all such cases as failures on the part of Christ and His people to heal them, when the fact is the persons faded themselves to come upon believing grounds, where Christ could heal them consistent with His Word, and the best interest of the soul of the afflicted.

There is no more reason or propriety in reporting all such failures to heal, than there would be to allow the devil, or an agent to attend all our Gospel meetings ..nd report in the TRUMPET a list of all the people for whose salvation we labor and pray, and yet through the power of satan over them, and their willingness to remain in his drudging service, we fail to see them healed of the leprosy of sin. When Christ went to preach to His own kindred in His native country, it is reported that He could not do many mighty works there because of the unbelief of the people. A few only were healed, but He did not report how many sick people failed to be healed, nor how many sinners failed to believe and be saved. So we will only report the works of the Lord, and let the devil do his own publishing. If however persons publish cases of healing that were false reports, we will expose and rebuke such shams if we find it out. We want nothing but the clear genuine work of God.

REDEMPTION.

—:o:—

WHOM having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoce with joy unspeakable and full of glory. Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you. Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. Be cause it is written, Be ye holy; for I an holy. And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear. ___________

NOT CURED, BUT LOST IN SIN

—:o:—

OUR last reference to the sad case of J. C. Fisher, in the TRUMPET, left some hope that he might recover from his shameful fall into the snare of the devil. But shortly after he left us in Nebraska he seems to have fully determined to follow the lusts of the flesh, rather than do the will of God. From that time forth he ceased to address us, and we have only learned of him through others. But all the information that we have received, clearly proved that he had given himself up to the evil lusts of the adversary. Yet as we did not hear of him attempting to preach, we had hopes that it would not be our duty to mention the poor unhappy apostate, and that his light might go cut in future silence. But of late receiving communications from saints that met him and learning that he has gone forth filled with evil spirits from the pit of hell, attempting to deceive the elect, it is now our sad duty to make an announcement of the fact, and warn all men in the fear of God, and for the welfare of your souls, to resist his spirit, as you would the devil himself. We would not speak in such strong terms, if we had not seen the evil spirits writhe and foam in him ourself last winter, and had we not received direct word from holy brethren, that he is now breathing out the most satanic lies, to build up his blasted character. His unlawful wife said that they would not be living together, had not the Trumpet Family refused to give them a home there. Though we ourself gave him the privilege, the publisher had very good reasons for not allowing it. If he were saved he would be wanted in the field, if not the Trumpet Office is no suitable lodging place for reprobates. But her confession shows that they are living in adultery. If it were their duty to separate, his not obtaining a home at the Trumpet Office did not transmute the sentence of the Lord. The unfortunate woman confessed that. God had given her orders to separate, even before they came to us. She consecrated to God, and promised to obey His voice, went back home and left him in all good faith, and signed her name Alice Davis But the unhappy man, writhing in the torment of hell, had no rest until he encoiled her soul again. He even threatened to shoot her, and take his own life. The intense love he had for her, was not love, but an influence from the very pit of hell. When not pampered and indulged it turned to fierce wrath. When with us, she remarked one day that they had no other course to pursue but to separate or be lost, and that she was bound to do so. Instantly the fierce deamons from the pit glared in his eyes, and he struck at her. She sprang away, when he kicked a chair at her. This I can prove by four or five witnesses. We never saw more fierce spirits of devils in any person than foamed in that poor lost man. And yet our love for his poor soul caused us to cherish a hope for his salvation, and to withhold thus long a final renouncement of him. After charging his former wife with a grievous crime, and by legal rascality, and the use of the Lord’s money obtaining a divorce, and he confessed to me that he did not believe she was guilty of the very crime he swore against her. With all this terrible wickedness upon his conscience — it he had any conscience — the man presumes to now start out preaching the Gospel of Christ. And to bolster up his rotten character, tries to make out that some body else is a very bad man. But during the time of the alleged crookedness of that party he was co-operating with him, and after loosing salvation came a great distance to have his prayers and assistance in attempting to get back to God. Who would go several hundred miles to seek God, through the assistance of a man you knew to be a bad man? O, if there is any mercy in Heaven for the man of such wickedness against the Lord Jesus, and one who has done all in his power to pull his soul out of the fire, let infinite mercy deliver that poor soul, from the awful penalty of his deeds.

Our first article, rebuking his reckless works of darkness, we headed, The Curse, of Freelove-ism; but the printers making a mistake, set it the “Cure of Freelove- ism,” as it appeared in the paper. But alas, our earnest attempt to cure it, by a sharp rebuke was all in vain, and the case is not cured, but sadly lost in sin, and drowned in perdition. And it is the duty, as well as the safety of all who fear God to have no company with such, nor bid them God’s speed, lest you pertake of their evil deeds. The guilty man and his illegal, and fallen wife are now roaming about in Kansas. For your souls sake and a pure Gospel avoid them, or receive them only as sinners.

__________

THE SINNER’S DOOM.

—:o:—

OF all the thoughts of human life, the thoughts of a sinner’s doom is the most horrible. When sinners look down and seem to see the very brink of hell open before them, then human tongue fails to express their feelings. A feeling of woe and dread seems to creep over them as they think of the awful doom that awaits them, and the endless life of misery in the pit of a burning hell. Thousands and thousands are on their way to that horrible pit to-day, where “there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth; where ye shall see Abraham and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God and you yourselves thrust out.” — Luke 13:28,

If a sinner would only stop to think of the awful road he is traveling, and of the wretched life he is leading, there would seem to be some hope for him; but instead of this he plunges on into wickedness, and folly until the weight, of sin lies like lead upon his soul, and until mountains of sins shall rise before him. Thus the weary traveler proceeds on his road to the city of destruction. The thoughts of death are ever following him along, and he cannot get away from them. He goes hither and thither, but the same thoughts arise before him; even in the lonely hours of night when he thinks about his past wicked life, the thoughts of death suddenly spring up in his mind, and it is “a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.” — Heb. 10:27. And he also remembers that “whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” — Rev. 20:15.

We know and so does the sinner that his name is not written in the book of life, but if he lives and dies in this sinful way, how shall he be able to meet God in the great day of Judgment, when all mankind shall be judged; when every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess. God will judge every man according to his works, then where shall he appear? He shall be cast aside into the lake that burneth with fire, and cry for rocks and mountains to hide him from the face of God. In that day God will say: “I tell you I know you not whence ye are; depart from me all ye workers of iniquity.” It will be a terrible thing to be cast into that pit forever and ever. A person can scarcely imagine the length of an endless eternity. It sinners would only consider the everlasting eternity, why should they not turn from their evil ways and seek an endless eternity with God and His holy angels, where it will be all peace, joy am happiness.

The reason sinners do not get salvation now more than they do, is on account of so many ungodly crooked professors. They are holding back because those who claim to know the ways of the Lord have never known it, but still go on professing, and every one can plainly see that they are only hypocrites When there is so much crookedness in the so called children of God of to-day; it is no wonder that poor souls have no desirs to seek the ways of the Lord. Then it is truly necessary for us to live holy lives, and show the world that we are of God. Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea: for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. — Rev. 12:12. Satan is working very hard in these times, deceiving poor souls, and telling them they do not need to get salvation now, but can go on in sin and enjoy the pleasures of this world a little longer. Some even think that they can wait until they come to die and then the Lord will save them. But woe unto the sinner who puts it off to long: his doom will be sealed forever, and be will spend an endless eternity of … in hell, with “all the nations that forget God.” “The fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone. — Rev. 21:8. “Be ye therefore ready for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.” In these words we are taught to be ready at all times, and must have on the brest-plate of righteousness and the sword in our hands, ready to battle for the Lord. We should be ready at all times.

But what shall become of those who are not ready to meet the Son of man, for He shall come at an hour when they think not, and they will not be prepared. “The upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it, but the wicked shall be cut off from the earth.” They shall reap what they have sown. They have lived a sinful life, and shall die in the same condition unless they turn to the Lord; for He says: “Except ye repent ye shall all likewise perish.” “The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble. But the path of the just is as a.. i..ng light that shines more and more, unto the perfect day.” The way of a righteous man is all light and there is no darkness found in his pathway, for Christ is light and in Him is found no darkness whatever. Oh, what a blessed thing it would be if poor souls would only turn from their wickedness and seek the Lord while He may be found.

“He that overcometh shall inherit all things.” If they want to overcome they must let the will of the Lord be done, and not their own; for the Lord requires a person to be submissive, and come down low and humble, and He will own and bless them as His children; because the Lord loves those who are willing to humble themselves, and bear the cross for His name’s sake.

The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished. — 2 Peter. 2:9. The Lord will gladly deliver you, if you “ask Him in faith, believing that whatsoever ye ask in His name it shall be granted unto you.” ‘The Lord preserveth all them that love Him, but all the wicked will He destroy.” God will richly repay you, for He says in His Word: “He that overcometh the same shall be clothed in white raiment, and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. Oh, may poor sinners turn to God, and escape, their doom. “In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no darkness.”

THE SEA OF GLASS.

—:o:—

“AND I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God. — Rev. 15:2.

The sea of glass represents the glorious experience of a sanctified life. Praise God! The life of a wholly sanctified person is just as smooth as the sea of glass; there is not a riffle, nor a wave, nor a doubt, nor a fear, but the fear of God; no shrinking, or giving away to temptations. A person who is out on the sea of glass is made entire wanting nothing. O praise God! and the lightnings and thunderings and the voices that John heard, are the flashing testimonies of God’s wholly sanctified ones. Their voices sound in the ears of formal professors, like thunderings. We know this from a blessed experience; we went nto an M. E. meeting one day, close where we were holding a meeting; and all was death bed formal grave yard, whining testimonies that were given in. They were so dead and disgusting that the preacher sat with his face covered in his hands. It seemed to me as little religion as he had he was disgusted with their testimonies; for he himself had no salvation. It was laughable when we testified, to see them turn in their seats, to hear and see where the voice came from. We were in the back part of the congregation and it seemed to scare them when they heard the sound of a voice. O praise God for voices in testimony that are full of file and power. O hallelujah!

And the eyes that John speaks of represents light; when we are full of eyes then are we full of light. A house that has its windows open, is full of light and has no darkness in it. So is a heart that is cleansed from all sin and from all unrighteousness. Praise God! such a heart, has no darkness; for God dwells in a pure heart, “and in Him is no darkness at all.’’ O praise God! for the glorious evening light that has driven away all the dark and cloudy days out of a wholly sanctified heart. O praise God! a heart that is full of light has no fears. Such are as fearless of what man or devils can do, as the lion is of all the beasts in the forest. O praise God for the boldness of a lion and the meekness of a lamb! If we all were only lambs, where would our boldness be? Now Christ was the Lamb of God, filled with all meekness, and He also had the boldness of a lion, for He told the woman of Samaria how many husbands she had, after she told Him she had none. And He also called the Jews Scribes, and Pharisees, and hypocrites, and of their father the devil, and He called Peter Satan. Praise God! “As He is, so are we in this world.” Now then we have another glorious picture in which the flying eagle represents the true christian. Flying means speed and great haste, and that is how God’s ministers are flying through this world having the ever lasting Gospel to preach to a dying world. The eagle also teaches another beautiful picture, whereby we may learn a glorious lesson. We are told that when the eagle

O praise God! ..o can a wholly sanctified soul who is ..ad indeed to sin, and alive onto Christ. … soul that has this glorious Bible expe- .. once stay above the black clouds … persecutions and every thing that is of …is world. We are living in the sunlight … God continually; and where God is there … no darkness. Now the eagle represents ..ght and speed to travel, as he keeps ..ove the storms, for the black clouds ..me up very quickly sometimes; he ..s to sail very fast to keep above them. ..nd so must the christian travel in order … keep above the storms and persecutions … this world. Speed means to run, and … run, we must be stripped for the ..ce. The Apostle in Heb. 12:1, says, ..et us lay aside every weight and ..e sin which doth so easily beset us and … us run, with patience the race that is … before us.” The sin has reference to ..r inborn sin, or carnal nature, which is ..t destroyed in our justification. And ..o weights mean the ungodly pride and ..e awful disgraceful fashions of this world, ..ecially the females disgracing themselves with puckers and bustles until they ..ke themselves look horrible, and even ..vilish. And to our astonishment some ..bylon women came to a camp-meeting … had in this state, who had on those ..usting abominations, professing holiness. ..aise the Lord for another glorious ..ry in the hills of old Pennsylvania.

..r last communication was from near … Allegheny River a few miles north of ..enton. There we held meeting in a ..l school-house nine days. The mighty … of God was upon us, and convictions … came on the people. A good many … were saved, perhaps sixteen or ..een, many of whom also went on to ..ection. This place was only about ..e miles from where the Red Lyon camp- meeting was held in August. Praise God! ..e converts and saints generally came ..om three to five miles, often on foot and ..rried their children up and down hills ..om four to six hundred feet high, often a ..lf mile ascent. We also had the health- .. exercise of daily walking up and down ..ill very high and steep, such as we ..ver had the experience of surmounting … our lives, to and from the school-house … father Heeter’s; where we were blessed ..h a very pleasant home. The Lord ..ss all that beloved household who ..e never tired looking after our comforts. ..nk God! one son received Jesus and … salvation. The Lord bless dear father … mother Heeter with the fulness of …, and save all the children from this ..d world that will soon be burned in … wrath of God. There were six follow- ..e Lord in the ordinance of baptism ..e rock-paved Allegheny river, the … blessing their willing and obedient ..s with floods of glory. The weather ..very wet during the meeting, but ..er high hills nor rain kept the people ..ttending the meetings. One sister who had been a Presbyterian without salvation, received Jesus at the camp-meeting and was gloriously saved. Her husband who was working in another Co., came home, attended the meeting one night, and though he called himself a very wicked man, he came to the altar and found a glorious deliverance that night. The next day he took a Bible and supply of TRUMPETS and returned to his work with great joy. I think there were five saints received healing by the laying on of hands and prayer. The Lord bless and keep His Church in that place until His coming in glory.

Dear Bro. Shaffer of that community, is called out of the sect, and into the ministry of the everlasting Gospel. He followed Christ in baptism, and having the Spirit of the living God, must walk in the light of all truth. We expect God will make him a useful worker for Him. God bless his soul! our hearts are truly knit together in love. God bless all His dear saints in this place. I hope they will all stand fast until the day of the Lord.

Lincoln, Mo.,

May God wonderfully bless you all and fill you with all the fulness of God. May you rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory. The meeting closed here in the name of Jesus with grand victory on the Lord’s side. God was with us in mighty convicting, saving and healing power. Souls were convicted at the beginning of the meeting; many held up their hands for prayers who would not yield, while a good number consecrated for the pardon of their sins and complete sanctification. About twelve or more claimed holiness; may God bless and keep them eternally true: and may they be filled with all the fulness of God and kept by His power. There was much opposition from babylon; sectarians fought desperately for their idols for they were drunk on the wine of her fornication. The Baptist sect fought very hard; they started a meeting in opposition to holiness: they foamed for over a week and the beast got out of breath and quit without a conversion or even one convicted; in fact they fought salvation from the beginning; poor souls deceived, deluded, and bound for hell.

We are still moving out for Jesus, all on fire. Glory to God for ever, hallelujah! We will go from here to visit the Church at Windsor; and will remain with them a few days. Dear saints pray for us for we need the prayers of God’s little ones.

I remain your free Bro. all on the altar, sanctified wholly and in the true Church of Jesus Christ. Hallelujah!

Oct. 7,

Beloved Saints of God: — May God bless you in your wonderful mission. Glory to God! We are here to-day delivering the wonderful messages of God. We have been here about ten days; it is a new place, but two have claimed the promise of the Father and renounced the baptist sect; one of them had been following the Advents, keeping the seventh day; but we took her through a course in God’s Word, and she came out a holiness woman, consecrated, sanctified wholly. Hallelujah! A number are under conviction for holinuss and of their duty to obey the call, “come out of her my people.” There are so many calls for us that we cannot fill them. I do pray God to send more laborers into Kansas, who are baptized with the Holy Ghost, to deliver the hail, fire and blood. Bro. Cronk of Stafford is with us to-day, full of the Holy Ghost. About a dozen about Stafford stand to the Word, and do not receive Fisher. My wife wrote me she was having chills; pray for her that she may be healed.

LATER.

I arrived at Sedgewick to-day, Get. 9, ready to begin work for the Master. A number received the light at Langdon; Bro. Cronk and others of Stafford will hold meetings there every two weeks. May God bless their labors there.

May the Lord direct Bro’s Speck and Kilpatrick on their return from the west, to come back through Kansas by the way of Stafford in Stafford Co., on the Santa Fe R. R., and from there take the D. M. & A. to Cedar Vale, Chatauqua Co. the saints desire it very much. Other arrangements may be made provided they consent to come. I expect, God willing, to commence meeting north of Cedar Vale, Nov. 1, after which I expect to go to Neosho Co. Kan. There is an open field in southern Kansas. Oh that God would send out more fire baptized men. Yours on the fire line for souls. Pray for me.

Denver, Colo.

To all the Saints in Light: — May the eternal peace and joy of God remain with you continually. Amen!

We are filled with joy unspeakable to report once more the work of the Lord in the West. We have the privilege of seeing from day to day the wonderful movings of the Lord in these last days. He is marching on in rapidity calling His people out of sect babylon, and collecting them into one BODY. Hence wherever this is effected, sect babylon is left desolate. Babylon is made a desolation, a plain, by God’s people coming out of her. Any thing that has good in it, to take al the good out of it, leaves it worthless; so also is sectism made worthless by God’s people obeying the voice from Heaven, “Come out of her my people.” — Rev. 18:4.

And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee. And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived. And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth. — Rev. 18:22-24.

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. — Matt. 5:13.

The Table Rock meeting which lasted sixteen days, was a real success in the salvation of precious souls. We did not find all things in the perfect order of the Spirit of God. But thank God! we found all had a willing heart, before the meeting closed, to get in the order of the Lord, by dying out to all self and this present evil world. May the dear Lord enable them hereafter to trust and not be afraid; for “they that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Zion which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.” The last day of the meeting we had the privilege of witnessing the burial of four of God’s saints in the liquid grave. O how blessed to follow Jesus in all His examples and commands. The meeting closed with salvation and ordinance services. A dear Bro. A. M. Brown from Minneapolis, Kan., whom the Lord saved out of babylon and called into the work, was with us in the meeting and was ordained Elder in the Body of Christ; also dear Bro. John U. Bryant who is with us in the work of the Lord. May God enable them to preach the Word in the power of the Holy Ghost.

From Table Rock we came to this city, where we are engaged in the work of the ministy, enlisting souls for King Jesus.

We ask the earnest prayers of all God’s people, that we may do His whole will in all things, and simplify the Gospel of the Kingdom.

We are your Bro’s. in the faith of Christ

St. Petersburg, Pa., Dear Saints: — I have been led by the Spirit of God which is in me, to give in my testimony. I do praise God for full and free salvation that saves me just now and keeps me from all sin. Glory be to Jesus! while I am writing I feel His mighty power and He is always with me and is leading me day by day. Glory be to His holy name! I do praise my God for this glorious evening light, which keeps my heart filled with the pleasures of God night and day.

I was taken on probation in the M. E. sect, and just before I was to be taken into full membership, the Lord saved and sanctified me, and showed me I was to come out of babylon. And to-day I stand a free child of God in Christ Jesus, out of all sects now and for ever. Glory to God! for the marvelous work He has wrought in my soul; now I am sitting in heavenly places with Christ Jesus. O, my heart leaps always with joy when I think that

one so unworthy as I should enjoy the peace and victory I feel in my soul. I ask, dear saints, an interest in all your prayers that I may prove faithful and at last meet yon all in Heaven. Your Bro. in Christ

Dear Brethren: — I praise God for His pardoning grace, and sanctifying power. Glory to God for His keeping power! I realize this morning the sweetness and completeness of perfected holiness. The Lord pardoned all my sins about three yearn ago; and I lived an up and down life, for about two years; then I heard holiness preached, and saw the need of it, and went to seeking for it; my sectarian brethren began to fight the idea or living without sin. They would quote, “He that saith he liveth and sinneth not, is a liar and the truth is not in him,” which is not Bible. They would also quote Eccle. 7:20; Rom. 3:12; 1 John 1:8; and they would get me to doubting then I would for awhile, fight the doctrine of freedom from sin, and would fall under condemnation; but finally I got on the altar, the Sanctifier, and got the sect out from between me and God; then the witness came. Glory to God! The devil then got me to believing that the ordinances of the house of God were done away with. The Lord sent Bro. George Bolds to our country, and he preached on the ordinances, and God poured down His power and I was convicted for baptism; when I was baptized the Lord witnessed it by the Holy Ghost. I have been with Bro. Bolds nearly all the time since preaching the awful Word of God. I expect to hold up the blood stained banner as long as God permits me to live. Brothers and sisters be true to God, live faithful. I will never get to see you all in this life, but will in the glory world.

Your sanctified brother.

Dear Brethren: — May God ever keep you in the Bible line of holiness. My testimony is, I am saved and sanctified through the cleansing blood of Jesus. Glory to His holy name! Pitt, O.,

Dear Saints of God, Greeting: — I am led of the Lord to write my testimony for Jesus. Praise the Lord for full salvation! A few weeks ago God sent Has holy ministers to this place, Pleasant Grove, to preach the true Word of God, which we had been destitute of; and when we heard it preached in its purity, and understood it, we received it. Praise God! we gave our body a living sacrifice to God which is our reasonable service, and promised to do what He would have us to do. And the first thing He had me to do, was to tell a brother that he was a hindrance in my salvation. He was kneeling close beside me when I was waiting to receive the Holy Ghost, and I had to tell him to get away from me; as soon as he moved I was filled with power, praise God!

God has brought us out of all man organizations, and all sin and every thing that is not of God. I am every whit made whole both soul and body. I always had poor health and could not walk very far; but God. has healed my afflictions, and now I can go to prayer-meeting after night. Praise God for salvation! We have our prayer-meetings on Thursday evenings and Sabbath afternoons, and other times when the Lord leads. We had a powerful meeting last evening at a school-house. Glory be to His name for ever! Your sister saved and sanctified.

Dear Saints: — I praise God for the privilege of writing my testimony, and that I can tell to the world that I am saved by His grace. I was converted when a chilld but lived in the sects until the true light came two years ago. I am out, and out for God, bearing the reproach for Christ’s sake. My husband and I have both been called to work for Him, so we are upon our march working for the Lord. We have been in this place almost a month, and if the Lord is willing, would like much to go to Raleigh, N. C., and meet with the dear saints at that place.

O praise God for a salvation that saves us from all the sin of this world. Praise God! I do feel so happy in the Lord who is my Father. Your sister saved and washed white in Jesus’ blood.

To all the Saints, Greeting: — May our Lord Jesus Christ, Himself and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and stablish you in every good word and work. Amen! The Lord hath done great things for me; whereof I am glad. O bless His dear name forever! I am saved from every vestage of sin, and sanctified wholly. I have the victory in my soul over every thing that exalts it self against God. I will praise the Lord with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praises unto thee. — Psalms 138:1.

It is now one year since we left the state of Pensylvania, to come to this place; not knowing what the Lord had for us to do here; but we came feeling it was the Lord will for us to come, as we had no desire of our own to come; but we do of a truth realize this morning, that none but God could care for us, and stand by us in every trial as He has done since we came here. We have learned many things that has been for the good of our souls, that we never would have known had we not come. Truly the Lord will withhold no good thing from them that walk uprightly. When the Lord led us to this place we were in debt considerable; and the accuser of the brethren tried wonderfully to dishearten us, by circulating false reports concerning us, even using some professed saints to accuse us falsely; but it is truly a miracle the way the Lord has helped us to pay those we owed; and we are just working every day of our lives, except Sabbath, and we expect by the grace and strength of God to soon say we owe no man any thing; and to God we ascribe all the glory. We are working for the Lord every opportunity we get. We have our prayer-meetings in our own house every week. But few comes out, as they seem to be afraid of us. This town is wholly given up to idolatry. Oh, how our hearts ache for them as we behold their desolation. How we long to see some of God’s messengers coming into this town to help in the work of the Lord; but patiently will we wait the Lord’s own time. Glory to God forever.

“Oh this uttermost salvation,
’Tis a fountain full and free,
Pure exaustless ever flowing.
Wondrous grace it reaches me.”

Your humble saved sister in the body of Christ.

Dear Trumpet readers: — I feel led to tell you all how wonderfully Jesus is saving me. Jesus says: “This is the way, walk ye in it,” well I obeyed His calling and He wonderfully filled my soul with glory. Oh, I do praise God that “His promises in him are yea, and amen, unto the glory of God by us.” I am living on His promises daily, and I am walking in the blessed evening light. He says: Walk in the light as He is in the light, and we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin. — 1 John 1:7. I realize that cleansing power down deep in my soul. I praise God for bringing me out into this marvelous light.. Pray for me. Your brother saved and sanctified through the blood of Jesus our Lord. Dear Brethren: — Our testimony is, we are saved and kept by the power of God. Glory to God! A few of us went to the village of Ola, where Bro. Shelly held meeting Saturday night and Sunday, Oct. 6th and 7th. Praise the Lord! The power of God was manifested in the salvation of precious souls. There were eight justified, and four sanctified, for which we give God the glory.

We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness. — 1 John 5:18, 19.

of satan to destroy the soul.

May God help every one to “abhor evil, and to cleave to that which is good.” Renounce the works of the devil, which will eat as a canker on the vitals of your soul through all eternity. Nothing but the blood of Jesus Christ will heal the malady of sin.

You see in the above Scriptures, when God accused them of their unrighteous deeds, and “asked why they did thus?” Adam replied: “the woman gave me, and I did eat;” and the Lord said to the women, “why didst thou eat?” and she replied: “the serpent beguiled me and I did eat.”

Thus the devil is deceiving the people all over the world. The devil has inaugurated these many institutions which are but bushes for his servants to get into and hide under, to keep away from God. But oh! they are deceived; it is utterly impossible to hide away from God.

Whither shall I go from thy Spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: If I make my bed in hell, behold thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.

Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee: but the night shineth as the day; the darkness and the night are both alike to thee. — Psa. 139; 7-12.

Though they dig into hell, thence shall mine hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down. And though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out thence; and though they be hid from my sight in the bottom of the sea, thence will I command the serpent, and he shall bite them: and though they go into captivity before their enemies, thence will I command the sword, and it shall slay them: and I will set mine eyes upon them for evil, and not for good. And the Lord God of hosts is he that toucheth the land, and it shall melt, and all that dwell therein shall mourn: and it shall rise up wholly like a flood; and shall be drowned, as by the flood of Egypt. — Amos 9:2-5.

“How shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation?” You cannot get away from God; the serpent, that God would command to bite you in the bottom of the sea, is your guilty conscience.

And they shall go forth and look upon the carcasses of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their lire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh. — Isaiah 66:24.

Sinners are gathering fuel together to burn their souls through all Eternity.

But God proposed through Jesus Christ to redeem men from this horrible pit, into which the devil has engulfed the whole world. This doctrine is being promulgated in these last days, that Adam’s fall from moral purity, did not entail the Adamic sin, (or an evil bent) upon the whole human race; but God’s Word refutes such doctrine.

“All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” “Behold I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.” So God’s Word proves that the whole human family have inheirited the old Adamic sin, (sarka in the Greek) from which all their whole life of sins have sprung.

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. But not as the offence, so also is the free gift: for if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. Therefore, as by the offence of one, judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound. That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. — Rom. 5:12-21.

It is very plain that all from their infancy, up till God fully saved them, had carnality in them. “We were by nature, the children of wrath even as others.” “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” You see sin manifested in little infants even two or three weeks old. One blind priest of baal, in St. Petersburg, Pa., said his parents raised him up a christian from his infancy. He was indeed an exception if that be true; but it is false, for lie is not a christian yet; and confesses he is a sinner, hence he is of the devil.

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior. — Titus 3:5, 6.

May God pity men who are so “blind they will not see.” Such will go to hell, with all the nations that forget God, unless they get saved in this world.

3rd Now we’ll take up the infant, and converted state. These words are synonymously used.

And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. — Matt. 18:3.

But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead. For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died. — Rom. 7:8, 9.

When Paul was alive without the law, it was during his infantile period, before he came to the age of accountability. But when he arrived to that period of time, the law imparted to him the knowledge of good and evil, and his obligations to God. Then led by inbred sin, he became a wilful transgressor, and went into spiritual death.

4th Guilty state, or condemnation.

And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death. For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me. — Rom. 7:10, 11.

The commandment brought him into guilt and condemnation, because he realised that he was dead in trespasses and sins; hence the knowledge of sins came through the commandments.

5th All persons become sinners at the age of accountability.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. — Rom. 3:23.

There was never an individual born into this world, but what became a sinner, unless they died before they came to the age of accountability; and if so, God cleansed them from inbred sin, because they could not comply with conditions. But all who are able to comply with conditions, must do so, in order to get into heaven. The Word of God emphatically says, “Ye must be born again.” And if you do not obey His Word, you thereby choose to live in sin, and go to hell. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar and his word is not in us. — 1 Jno. 1:10.

6th The condition of the wicked.

There is no peace, saith the Lord, unto the wicked. — Isa. 48, 22.

For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. — Rom. 6:20.

The way of pence they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace. — Isa. 59:8.

7th The invitation, “Whosoever will may come.” “He that cometh unto me, I will in no wise cast out.” “He that believeth on the Lord Jesus Christ shall be saved.”

8th Grafted in. For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches. And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graded in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree. Boast not against the brandies. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graded in. Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear, for if God spared not the natural branches take heed lest he also spare not thee. Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou shalt also be cut off. And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graff them in again. For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree; how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree. — Rom. 11:16-24.

The first fruits is Christ. But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept. — 1 Cor. 15:20.

The root is also Christ. I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. — Rev. 22:16.

If the Root (Christ) be holy, the (Lump) Church is also holy; and if the first fruits be holy, the (Church or whole harvest) is holy; and just the same as the first fruits, so is all the harvest. The Word usually takes the grape-vine, or olive tree to typify or represent His Church. The natural branches here spoken of, are the Jews: and the unnatural branches are the Gentiles. The Jews were originally the chosen people of God, until they crucified Jesus Christ; then the indignation of God was upon them, and they were cut off because of spiritual blindness, and the Gentiles were grafted in. Now the Gentiles are being cut off just the same as the old Jews were, and by permitting their hearts to become hardened, because of their unbelief. Great stupidity and darkness is settling down over the Gentile world, and very few are willing to be saved. God help the Gentile sinner to know that the Word says: He is able to graft the natural tranches (or Jews) in again. When this takes place, woe unto the Gentile sinners. And God has already commenced, to enlighten and save the Jews; hence there is but little hope for the Gentiles any more. But God is willing to save all who will come to Him; and He is saving many souls in these last days.

And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the firstbegotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood. — Rev. 1:5.

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. — Rom. 8:1,

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. — 2 Cor. 5:17.

9th The life between justification and sanctification. For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. For that which I do, I allow not: for what I would, that I do not; but what I hate, that do I. If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would, I do not; but the evil which I would not, that I do. Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. I find then a law that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: but I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. — Rom. 7:14-25.

This element which Paul is describing in the Roman brethren, is the old Adamic nature. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other; so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. — Gal. 5:17.

The flesh (sarka Greek) is described thus: “lusteth against the Spirit (or life of Christ in man) and the Spirit against the flesh, and these two are contrary the one against the other, so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.” When he would do good, evil (old nature) was present with him; hence he says: “O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from this body of death?” It is a fact, he says we; personating himself. But he, here draws the picture more perfectly to the Roman brethren, by personating himself; because he says in the 8th chapter and 2nd verse: “The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus, has made me free from the law of sin and death.” So he was free from the duel state described in the previous chapter; and drawing the picture for the benefit of those converts who had not attained to perfect holiness. He shows then how to attain to perfect freedom from this state.

I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. — Rom. 7:25.

I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away; and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. — John 15:1, 2.

The new translation renders it: ‘cleanseth.’ Jesus says: “every plant which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.” God did not plant sin in the heart, so it is an unholy plant, and He does root it up. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection. Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. — Rom. 6:5, 6, 11.

And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him. — Col. 3:10.

But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. — Rom. 6:22.

Now I shall live the life of Christ,
Within this body Thine.
I’m safe into the second grace,
Kept by His power Divine.

With peace and everlasting joy,
Perfected in my soul;
Yes pure as gold without alloy,
The Lord hath made me whole,

B. E. Warren.

Pitt, O.,

Dearly beloved Saints: — It seems to be the will of the Lord for me to write a few lines to the saints and readers of the GOSPEL TRUMPET. This morning finds me saved and sanctified by the blood of the Lamb. Praise the Lord forever and ever! for a salvation that saves us from all the sin and confusion that is in the world, and gives us the victory over every thing that is not of God. For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world. Who is he that overcometh the world but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God. See the promises of they who overcome in Rev. 2:7-11, 3:12-22, and 21:7. Dear brethren, I find that our faith is tried and we have fiery trials; but all this is for our good, 1 Peter 1:7. We are accused by satan, but we overcome him by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. Praise the Lord! I know this by experience.

A little more of my former experience. About seven years ago I received light on sanctification as taught in the Bible, consecrated for it, and I believe that I received all that I had light for; and as I went forth to do the will of the Lord as He required of me, I did not come up to all that the Lord wanted me to do, so I became weak in faith, and at times I done things that I thought was wrong. I tried to get hack to where I was when I first started, but it seemed I never could get the faith nor the joy again, until about the latter part of June. At that time Bro. A. J. Kilpatrick and Bro. W. G. Schell came to this place to hold meeting; after they held meeting a short time, they invited all that were not satisfied to come to the altar. I went and tried to consecrate for sanctification, but could not on account of a guilty conscience for disobedience and the wrong that I had done from the time I started, up till then. Finally the Lord forgave me of the past and I thought I was all right and had great joy for about one day: then I got to see that I was not yet sanctified, so I consecrated and after quite a struggle I got the victory by faith in the blood of the Lamb; and while I knew that I was dead to the world, the flesh, and the devil, I was left to walk by faith for about six weeks without much Spiritual manifestations. When I wag consecrating to God for sanctification, I agreed with Him to bless me in whatever way that He saw fit; yet I became dissatisfied and wanted to be filled with the Holy Spirit, and became very anxious for it. While at the Jerry City camp-meeting I was wonderfully tried in my experience of sanctification, and was almost made to doubt it: but after being instructed that we were to walk by faith, I then examined my consecration and what I had promised to God, and what He had said to me; so I took God at His Word, and I received a wonderful victory, and as I testified to it God wonderfully filled me with His Holy Spirit. Praise the Lord forever! I am now walking by faith in the Son of God, and am being established more and more the in faith.

During the meeting held by Bro’s. Kilpatrick and Speck at this place, my wife and one of my sisters were sanctified. It was the first meeting ever held in this country by any of the saints and made a great stir among the people. Some said they preached the truth; others said they were to hard on the sects. Bro’s. Speck and Kilpatrick were the right persons for this place, and we would like if it is the Lord’s will, for Bro. Warner and company to come here this Winter, or if they can not come, some other of God’s holy ministers to come, for I believe there are persons here who will yet accept the truth. This is a wicked place, almost like Sodom; we are holding meeting twice a week and God is with us in mighty power; some are prejudiced on account of their sect. God has given us victory over the beast and all anti-christ spirits and doctrines of devils. Pray for us that we stand firm on the Rock, and on it the gates of hell cannot prevail against us. Your Bro. under the blood saved and sanctified.

—O—

Rising Sun, O.

Dear Brethren: — In the name of Jesus I do testify through the TRUMPET what the good Lord is doing for me. Praise the Lord! I am gloriously saved from all sin, and completely sanctified by the precious blood of Jesus. I am so thankful I ever gave my all to God, to be His for time and Eternity. O it is so sweet for me to sink completely into the will of God, and there abide. Praise God, for this glorious evening light which so brightly shines in my soul. O praise God! how thankful we ought to be, that we can have the true Gospel preached which brings light and life to our souls; how different it is now than it was when we were in sect bondage. Glory to Jesus! none but God knows how thankful I am that I was delivered out of the deceitfulness of sectism. By the help of God I shall do all I can to help spread this glorious evening light. The good Lord wonderfully saved me from the use of tabacco, tea and coffee; I was a slave to tobacco for twenty years, but when I gave myself to the Lord, I gave up my tobacco, and the Lord took away the appetite for it. Praise God! since He has saved me from all these things, I now have something to give for the spread of the Gospel. O I do praise God that He ever put it in my heart to give to His cause, what I used to spend for tobacco and other useless things, and He wonderfully blesses me for so doing. O dear saints let us be of one heart and one mind, also in these things. The Lord has done wonderful things for us; so let us ever help to rescue the perishing; let us lift high the banner of true holiness, teach it, and live it, so that the world may see there is a divine reality in the religion we profess. Well dear ones we are earnestly praying for God to send some of His baptized ministers here to hold up the true light, for it is much needed here. O that God would wonderfully shake this place once more. Perhaps we could have a grove meeting in the near future, if the Lord will open up the way: I believe much good would be done. Some are gelling are disgusted with babylon, and acknowledege that she is fallen.

Dear saints pray for God’s little ones at this place, that we may continue to walk in the light as He is in the light, and be kept clean for God. Amen! Your saved brother.

Jacob Roush.
