THE HOLY REMNANT.

Are you of the holy remnant,
Gathered to the King of peace?
Have you found a full atonement,
And abundance of his grace?
Yes, my soul has come to Zion,
On the high and holy way,
And I’ve seen all darkness flying,
Driven by the light of day

Have you heard a voice from heaven,
Calling in a solemn tone,
“Come, my people, from confusion,
This is not your native home?”
Yes, I heard, and to my vision,
Zion’s glory brightly shone;
Then I rose and fled the ruin.
Taking not a babel stone.

Have you learned that all this remnant
Must be dressed in uniform?
Are you clothed in that white raiment,
That will shine before the throne?
Yes, I found the precious fountain,
Opened when the Savior died:
Here I washed my stains of crimson,
And my soul is sanctified.

Do you know the saints inherit,
Since we’re gathered into one,
All the greatness of the kingdom,
Under all the shining sun?
Yes, all glory be to Jesus!
By his might I overcame,
In the fullness of his blessing,
On his throne of love I reign.

Do you know, O ransomed brother,
That we stand upon the verge,
Where old time fills up his ages,
And the lost will mourn his dirge?
Oh what myriad souls are sleeping,
Soon to wake in judgment fires!
Help, O God! thy remnant gleaning,
Until time indeed expires.

THE HOLY REMNANT.

The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God. Isa. 10:21.

MANY false spirits clad in a profession of salvation are running to and fro, crying, “The end of time;” “The Lord is coming, and we are the remnant concerning whom the prophets spoke in times past, and are the ones to be received by the Messiah at his second advent.” Multitudes are being deceived, crying peace, when there is no peace; calling light darkness, and darkness light. They cry, “The Spirit, the Spirit,’’ and when the truth is known, it is found to be the spirit of antichrist, and are to be as the spirits Luther came in contact with, slapped on the snout by the eternal word of the living God, and made to recede to the pit from whence they emanate. The word of God, and the Spirit of God agree, nor do we ever find these the one contrary to the other. Any spirit that does not agree in every respect to the holy Word, is not of God. So then, to know the Word is to know the spirits; and the only way to know the Word, is to be in possession of the Holy Spirit which leads into all truth, and reveals the deep mysteries of the wisdom of God contained therein. And by the glorious truths of the everlasting Word we will learn what this remnant is, who it includes, and who has no part in its inheritance.

A remnant is that which is left; residue, remainder, etc., and implies, of course, a small portion. So then, a class of people who have been cut off, or separated from the masses of the world must represent the remnant referred to in the text. But we will let the Word decide what it is, and what it is not. When Jesus appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself, and to be the author of eternal salvation to all who would obey, he built his church. Matt. 16:18. This church was the body of Christ. Eph. 1:22, 23. And must necessarily include every one of his members. For we are members of his body, of his flesh and of his bones. Eph. 5:30. There are many members, yet but one body. 1 Cor. 12:20. There being but one church, all who were in Christ were members of this church; and if the root [Christ] be holy, so are the branches [members]. Rom. 11:16. The way being straight and narrow, Matt. 7:14, false spirits that would not acknowledge the truth went forth in the form of teachers, bringing in damnable heresies. 2 Pet. 2:1-3. Denying the Lord’s plan of salvation, and his one church; and many followed their pernicious ways, speaking evil of the truth that makes us free. And by so doing, God’s people were scattered into many divisions, or sects. Eze. 34:1-6. And after being scattered, no two divisions were alike, so one name would not suit them all. Hence, unto them were given divers names. Isa. 44:56. Very different from those who remain in the one fold, led by the one Spirit, kept by the one faith, in the one way, who need but one name. As centuries passed, one prophecy after another was fulfilled, until the present age when God’s people awoke to the realization that they were in a strange land. Psa. 137:1-4. As they sat in the bondage of Babylon or sectism, far from the beautiful home of the free, they wept even at the remembrance of Zion, and longed for the sweet freedom they posessed in the apostolic morning. The multitude in general became accustomed to sectish ways, and feeling at home, they sought not for anything better than the galling yoke of confusion.

A PRAYER FOR THE REMNANT.

But there were a few, yea, a remnant that desired to return to Father’s house of joy, peace and oneness. And for this remnant there was a prayer wafted to the throne of mercy, that they might be delivered. Isa. 37:4. They were few of many (professors) who sent a supplication for deliverance. Jer. 42:2.3. So few that even a child could write, or number them. Isa. 10:19. The Lord says, And it shall come to pass, in that day [when his people pray for purity and unity] that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped [from sectish confusion] of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. Isa. 10:20.

THE REMNANT RETURNS.

The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God. As soon as those who loved the Lord began to trust him in truth, and obey his word, he gave new life to those who were spiritually blind, deaf, dumb, and lame; and in the wilderness, or unto those who were uncultivated by the Holy Spirit, waters break out. And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called the way of holiness. * * * And the ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads. Isa. 35:5-10. And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all countries whither I have driven them, because of their disobedience, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful, and increase. Jer. 23:3. And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again [as the morning light] take root downward, and bear fruit upward. Isa. 37:31. This remnant is rooted, not in Methodism or in any other ism, but rooted and grounded in love. Eph. 3:17. Thus saith the Lord God; When I shall have gathered the house of Israel from the people among whom they are scattered, and shall be sanctified in them in the sight of the heathen, then shall they dwell in their land that I have given my servant Jacob. Eze. 28:25. Jacob was heir with Abraham and Isaac of the same promise. Heb. 11:8, 9. This promise was to be holiness and righteousness all the days of our life. Luke 1:72-75. Yea, it was the promise of the Holy Spirit. Gal 3:14. The Holy Spirit is the sanctifier. Rom. 15:16. And this sanctification makes us all one. Heb. 2:11. So the land possessed by this remnant is the Holy Spirit that sanctifies, makes us all one, and causes us to live before God in holiness all the days of our life. And in this very day the yoke of sectism is destroyed because of the anointing of the Spirit of God. Isa. 10:27. Remember, dear reader, if you are still yoked up in sectism, you are not of this remnant. Forsake her, and flee to Zion, for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call. Joel 2:32.

A SINLESS REMNANT.

Deliverance comes through holiness, and in mount Zion the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. Oba. 17. The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth. Zeph. 3:13. Multitudes of professors say we cannot be saved from sin here on earth; and they most assuredly do not have any part in the possessions of God’s remnant. 1 Jno. 3:8, 9. This same remnant shall trust in the name of the Lord. Zeph. 3:12. Are you trusting in, or bearing the name of any sect? If so, you are not of the number of the remnant called

A STRONG REMNANT.

And I will make her that halted, a remnant, and her that was cast off, a strong nation: and the Lord shall reign over them in mount Zion henceforth, even forever. Mich. 4:7. This remnant is strong because it possesses the kingdom, Dan. 7:22. The kingdom is righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. Rom. 14:17. The Holy Ghost gives power, Acts 1:8, over all the power of the enemy. Luke 10:19.

A SEPARATE REMNANT.

In this lesson we hear of three nations, the Egyptian, Assyrian and Israelite. The Egyptian here represents the non-professor. The Assyrian signifies the Babylonian or sectarian. Babylon was the capital of Assyria, hence, every Babylonian was an Assyrian. And as the Lord uses Babylon, or confusion to represent the multiplicity of creeds, he uses these words interchangeably to represent the same class of people. In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptian shall serve with the Assyrian. Isa. 19:23. How plainly is this manifest as we see the professors of salvation indulging in the ungodliness of the world, such as fairs, races, card-playing, dancing, etc. Things that belong only to the sinner in his lost and wretched state. Thus we see the Assyrians go to Egypt for pleasure. Not only do the professors go to the non-professor’s game, but we see the non-professor taking part in the things manufactured by the professor; such as socials, picnics, festivals, etc. And even a close observer could not distinguish any difference between the two, for the two serve together. The high plane of aristocracy brings these together, yea, even the professed church on a level with the world. But at the time sectism has become so corrupt, and fallen to such a state of ungodliness, In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and Assyria. Isa. 19:24. That is, the remnant left unto the Lord of hosts, is a separate nation from these, and has no connection with sectism or the non-professing world, but is on a highway that leads to the realm of eternal glory. In that day shall there be an altar to the Lord in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar at the border thereof to the Lord; and it [the pillar, or monument of God’s everlasting truth] shall be for a sign, and for a witness unto the Lord of hosts in the land of Egypt: for they [sinners] shall cry unto the Lord [for mercy] because of the oppressors, [or sectish spirits] and he shall send them a Savior, and a great one, and he shall deliver them. And the Lord shall be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians shall know the Lord in that day, and do sacrifice and oblation; yea, they shall vow a vow unto the Lord, and perform it. Isa. 19:19-21. Here, we learn that at the time God’s people separate themselves from sectism, sin, and sinners, and live a pure life before all men, the sinner sees a different church than the worldly institution operated by Satan; knows there is a reality in such a salvation; is convicted of his wrong, which could not be done while every so- called church member lived just as he did. The glorious light of heaven shines into his heart; he is disgusted with the oppression of sectism, and opens his heart to the Savior, even the Great One. The Lord saves him, and he knows the Lord. He vows a vow to serve the Lord, and performs it. Being in the grace wherein he can stand, the which sectism did not teach, he stands free in Jesus to do the perfect will of God.

A SELECTED REMNANT.

Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord God: for the day of the Lord [the Lord’s separation] is at hand: for the Lord hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath bid [sanctified or prepared, margin] his guests. Zeph. 1:8. The church of Christ is pure, and ever has been, but the darkness produced by apostate teachers has so hid it from view in ages past that we did not know where to look for the bride of Christ. This great sacrifice of God includes the gathering of his elect from the divisions of man, and even destroying the very names of sectism from among them. In verse 4 we read, I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place [Jerusalem or church], and the name of the Chemarims with the priests. The Chemarims signify idolatrous priests, and is so rendered in 2 Kings 23:5. And this a clear description of sectarian priests, or preachers who ignore the law of Christ, his church and its founder, and go forth deceiving the nations, building an idol in the form of a sect that is lifeless and powerless, daubing it over with untempered mortar, and giving it a name to suit their carnal fancy. But as these priests no longer rule God’s people, and are destroyed by the Word, the names they have invented are also destroyed with the priests, and are no more known among the elect of God, for his sacrifice is prepared, and is called the marriage supper of the Lamb. Rev. 19:6-9. The supper implies the end of the world, or last part of the present dispensation, and this age has already been ushered in upon us in the form of the evening light. Zech. 14:7. This supper, or feast is prepared, and the guests are all included in the wife who hath made herself ready, and joined herself unto the Lamb of God, being one with him, partaker of his holiness, and members of his body, flesh and bones. Eph. 5:30. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white; for the fine linen is the righteousness of the saints. Rev. 19:8. Many professors dislike, yea, hate to hear a child of God say he is sanctified. To such, let me say, you are not one of the guests bidden to the supper of God. At the time of this supper, we learn that God hath judged the great whore [sectism] which did corrupt the earth with her fornication [sect making]. and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. Rev. 19:2, 3. Or put us in such a position after escaping her power that we can reward unto her double according to her works. 18:6. Through the everlasting gospel which overthrows her walls, and causes her power to cease among the pure in heart, who feast upon the eternal riches of divine favor, and continually rejoice in the purity and unity of perfected love. This is the same thing prophesied in Zeph. 1:4-7, just mentioned. The second part of this great sacrifice is the destruction of those who fail to receive the Word and salvation of God, and these we term the

ANTI-CHRIST SIDE.

And I saw an angel [messenger] standing in the sun [or glorious light of heaven’s eternal truth], and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven [the air] Come, and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; that ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. Rev. 19:17, 18. Fowls here represent spirits of devils. Kings, captains, and mighty men are those who were rulers, leaders, and great ones in sectism. The horses are creeds of men, and those who sat on them are the ones who trust in, and are carried by sectish influence. The Lord says, Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help [induce sinners to join their sect to swell the number], and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they [sects] are many * * *. Now the Egyptians are men and not God; and their horses flesh, and not Spirit [not spiritual, but fleshly institutions]. Isa. 31:1-3. In enumerating the works of the flesh, Paul mentions heresies, which are sects. Gal. 5:19-21. And those who tolerate such things shall not enter the kingdom of God; hence, there must be a separation between the heretic that advocates heresy, and the elect of God who abide in Jesus only. Again, speaking to the spirits of devils, the Lord says, And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you. Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord God. Eze. 39:19, 20. As God gathers his remnant out of confusion he will have a pure church, and the mighty ones, even those who possessed a degree of light and liberty, and fail to receive the fulness of the gospel, find their light turned to darkness, and they, with all men of war, or those who fight the truth, succumb to the power of hell, and are food for foul spirits that prey upon all such ungodly characters. In the day of this sacrifice is the time that the Lord punishes all such as are clothed in strange apparel, or those who are

A TRIED BROTHER.

THERE is a brother at Eubanks, Ky. who has purchased a home there, I believe 80, or 160 acres of land. He is a minister of the everlasting gospel. The Lord, chiefly through his labors, has raised up quite a church there. The poor have the gospel preached to them, and are most ready to receive it. The brother found himself in the midst of a wicked element, with several distilleries about him. His house has been burned down, his life in danger, has been shot at; and in many ways he has been in great trial. He is now pressed with a debt of $85, on his place, and with enemies thick, there is danger that his home will be lost for that amount. He is very desirous to free his mind from this care, that he may go forth, without distraction in the gospel field. May it not please God to lead some brother to loan him that amount until he can make some turn? He is willing to repay with interest. Would say, we are personally acquainted with him; and believe him honest, and worthy; and we believe that kind Heaven offers a reward to the brother that will aid him, even with a loan. Ans to first. Yes, it refers to sectism, more particularly to Romanism, the mother of all sects.

Ans. to second. They are not the same at all, have no relation to each other, and are derived from different words in the Greek. In the first case the word is THERION, defined in Lexicons, and in Young’s Concordance. by, “WILD BEAST.” It is so translated by John Wesley and Rotherham.

In Rev. 4:6-9. and elsewhere where those “four beasts” are spoken of in the common version, the word is derived from ZOON, and is defined by Young as “living creatures,” and translated by the same words by six different versions. By one, “animate beings,” which amounts to the same. By the EMPHATIC it is rendered “living ones.” As shown us by the Spirit, these four represent the combined creatures of God, that worship him in perfect holiness. Perhaps including only his redeemed church. “And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal.” Rev. 4:6. That is the clear gospel plane on which the church moved in the morning light of full redemption. And upon the same sea of glass mingled with fire, the saints are now standing since they have gotten the victory over the beast, his mark, name and image. See Rev. 15:2.

“And in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts, full of eyes, before and behind.” 4:6. This many eyes represents the glorious gifts of the Spirit with which God has empowered his church.

“And the first beast — living creature — was like a lion.” Shewing the the kingly power and authority of God’s people. “The second beast was like a calf.” Showing the spirit of meekness, and willing sacrifice to God. “The third beast (living one), had a face as a man.” Conveying the idea of the scriptural wisdom, and holy intelligence of the redeemed worshipers of God.

“And the fourth beast (living creature) was like a flying eagle.” Denoting the swift and unobstructed flight of all God’s messengers. Like the strong eagle overflying all earthly mountains and hills, and rapidly going forth to conquer on all the face of the earth.

The two powers brought to view on the above scriptures are directly opposite in character and office. The “wild beast” is taken to symbolize the devouring systems of sectism, which are not of God, and cannot be reduced to subjection to God. Creatures of God’s creation, combining power, wisdom, and heavenly speed, and lofty flight are used to represent the true church, and perhaps all the holy creation, and re-creations that serve, glorify and praise God,

Ans. The Jews practiced much anointing of the hair with olive oil. But when those self-righteous Pharisees fasted, they put no oil upon their heads, and perhaps left their hair uncombed. Their object was to attract the attention of the people to the fact that they were fasting. Thus seeking the praise of men. The words of Christ all considered, show that he simply intended to command us to not disfigure, or make ourselves appear different when we fast, than at other times. If you are in the habit of daily anointing your hair, combing, etc, do not depart from your usual habits, and appearance on fast days, but act and appear just the same as on other days. So that men may not see by your appearance that you are fasting, much less should we make a blow-horn of the same by telling it. “That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret.”

Persons that are not in the habit of frequently anointing their heads with oil, would accomplish the very reverse of Christ’s design, were they to always anoint their heads when fasting; namely, as soon as this would become known, they would, by that anointing, appear to men to fast. Therefore consider the object of the Savior’s command, and act and appear just the same on fast days as you do on other days, that you do not appear unto men to fast, but fast unto God, who will, therefore, reward you openly.

RESPECTABILITY.

“Let all things be done decently and in order.” 1 Cor. 14:40. God is a God of order, and a pure God, and he desires us, his people, to be orderly, and pure, and clean. He is able to sanctify us, soul, body and spirit, and to preserve us blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thess. 5:23. And every man that lath this hope in him, purifieth himself, even as he is pure. 1 Jno. 3:3. And again, Jesus says, “Cleanse the inside of the cup and the platter that the outside may be clean also.” Now the people of God are a clean people, strictly clean, pure in heart, body, and all their life and conduct.

The Word says in Isa. 52:11, Be ye clean that bear the vessels of the Lord.” This comes directly to the ministry. Those who profess to be sent of God to preach his word, “Be ye clean.” “In all things showing thyself to be a pattern of good works.” Not only are we to be “a pattern in doctrine,” sound speech, etc., but also in dress.

God’s word strictly forbids worldly conformity, and unless we are willing to lay aside all the fashions of the world, and square our lives by the Bible in plain attire, we are not fit to go out as a pattern. Some one may say, “ Well, the people need not pattern after me, but let them take the Word for their pattern.” But if we, as his ministers are not willing to pattern after the Word, how can we expect, or have the face to demand them to do so? God help us, dear ones, to square our lives by the Word, no matter if it should take off a right arm. What the judgment day will condemn, God’s word condemns now, and we had better strip ourselves of every thing that the flames of the coming of Christ will consume. Now some set themselves up as a pattern, and say. If you are saved you will dress like me, and what I cannot wear, you cannot wear. Now this is not right. Let each one pattern after the Word, and take the Lord Jesus as our example, also the holy women of old.

Now, on the other hand there are those professing to be saints, who boast that they are saved from the fashions of the world, and seem to delight in making themselves look ridiculous and slovenly, and generally have something to say against those that do go respectable. I have even heard some say that they make no change, but wear the same clothes on Lord’s day that they do all the rest of the week. Brethren, this ought not so to be. God wants us to boolean and decent in our dress. Some preach against wearing collars, cuffs, etc., and seem to think that being a peculiar people consists in wearing the coarsest clothes they can get, and a ridiculous looking old hat, rough shoes, long hair and a shaggy beard, and by so doing think they are fit to be ensamples. Shame on such fanaticism! The church of God has no such customs. God wants us to look decent, and disgrace is brought on the cause if ministers are careless or indifferent about their clothing. If we are not able to buy good, suitable clothing, we can afford soap and water, and what we do wear can be clean. Not long ago I met a man who claimed to be sent of God to preach the Word. He could not wear a fine shirt, but had on an old dirty colored one, and had neglected to wash himself until he was not fit to be seen, much less to preach the Word. We recognize no one in such a plight as sent of God. Brethren, salvation makes us clean, and fit for respectable society. And God wants us to be respectable, and especially those that go out to preach the Word. Men have been disgusted at the very appearance of some that profess to be ensamples of the flock. Now, if any manifest pride, like spiritual dudes, this letter is not intended to uphold them; but God help all to wash and keep clean, and dress decently, that the cause of God may not be evil spoken of, and that humanity may be elevated by our work and example, coupled with our chaste conversation and godliness. Kilpatrick was here through the whole meeting. Bro. Schell was here in the latter part of the meeting. I have been permitted to attend the meeting a few days, near Antwerp, O., which Bro. Schell has been holding. I expect to go to Rockford, Mercer Co., O. the 6th to hold meeting as the Lord wills. Pray for me that I may ever be clothed with humility, and have wisdom to present the word of God so as to win souls to Christ, and accomplish the greatest good possible, that I may speak as I ought to speak. Dearly Beloved Saints: This morning finds me saved in Jesus, and rejoicing in full salvation. We closed our meeting in Pittsburg, Kan. on Jan. 30, and in no place that we have ever labored, has Satan tried more desperately to destroy the cause of Christ. But we believe the seed sown will now prosper, and that the church of the living God, is now established in Pittsburg to remain. May God prosper it for Christ’s sake. Over twenty-five were at the altar during the meeting. Eight of the number consecrated for sanctification, and received the blessing. The second week of the meeting, eight were baptized, and more to follow in the near future. Jan. 13, we met to observe the ordinances, and God was with us in power. After services four presented themselves at the altar for sanctification. May God bless and reward the saints and others for their kindness to us during our stay in the city. Bro. Caldwell went to Columbus, Kan. for a few days. I came home, and am

Bliss, Mich., Feb. 7, 1895.

Dear Saints Scattered Abroad: We are happy to report to you victory on the Lord’s side. Since our last report, we held a ten day’s meeting at the Blackman school house, with good results. We then went to Harbor Springs and held a three weeks’ meeting. There amid the severest opposition of sectarians and preachers, some came and were benefited, and a few were saved, and some healed. But this meeting was only a general seed-sowing. May God bless the people who so kindly cared for our needs while we were among them; also, we thank the Baptist people for the free use of their chapel. After we closed this meeting we came out to the school house north of the Blackman, and there we had the privilege of listening to Bro. Nichols preach in the morning and evening. The next day we returned to the harbor, expecting to depart for the North again, but was storm-stayed for three days. Then we came over to Petoskey and Bay View, found Sister Courtney and her sister Emma rejoicing in the power of God to save and heal. Then we came on, and stopped a few days with dear Sister Martin, and had a little rest, then over to Bliss; found the bethren rejoicing in the Lord, and in the liberty wherewith he had made them free. The church is steadily advancing in this place, and others are being converted and added. Bro. Nichols stayed at the Blackman school house after we left, and there were a few consecrations there, then he returned home. His wife and daughter were with him here.

We expect to go from here in a few days to begin meetings in some new place, where they have been waiting for us. There are many doors open everywhere for the true gospel in these parts. Pray for us We have been enjoying a glorious feast since we have been here. We expect to close the meeting here Sunday evening, then we will go where the Lord leads. Yours in the love of Jesus,

To all the Saints: In our last report we had just arrived at Carmi, I11., where we met dear Bro. John Baugh awaiting us at the depot. It did our souls so much good to meet with the dear saints at that place. We found a nice large hall, already warmed and lighted to hold meeting in, for which our hearts went up in praise and gratitude to God, and also for providing us such good homes among the brethren. May God reward them for their kindness. We found a good congregation of eager listeners for the truth most of the time. We commenced meeting Dec. 13. The seed was sown, and some fell on good ground, and brought forth fruit to the glory of God. There were a few at the altar, and six were buried with Christ in baptism. On Sunday, the 23d we attended the ordinances of the Lord’s house. Meeting lasted ten days. On Monday, Dec. 24, we left Carmi, enroute for Evansville, Ind., where we came to teach the Word, and if possible to establish the saints in the ways of the truth more perfectly. We found dear Bro. Stevenson and wife with hearts and house open to the Lord and his children, for which we were glad, and commenced meeting in the name of the Lord. But on account of the stormy weather, and holidays, we did not have very large attendance.

We left Evansville on Friday, Dec. 28, on our way to Tullahoma, Tenn., where the dear saints were anxiously awaiting our coming for some time. We had to part with dear Bro. Davison, our co-laborer in the gospel work he staying at the last named place to continue the work of the Lord. We hope soon to meet him and join him once more in the gospel work, the Lord willing. We found the dear saints at Tullahoma in very good condition, generally speaking; although some had grown cold in the cause of the Lord, but saw their need of a Savior, and returned back like the prodigal son to their Father’s house. We commenced meeting at the Cross Roads in the name of the Lord, and in spite of the cold weather, the people came out to hear the Word. We commenced meeting Sunday, Dec. 30, with a good attendance. The meetings lasted until Wednesday, Jan. 2, and resulted in thirteen consecrations. To God be all the praise!

We came from the Cross Roads to the little city of Tullahoma and commenced to put forth the Word in that wicked place on Saturday, Jan. 5. They provided a large room, well seated. Here, by the help of the Lord, we began to lay judgment to the line, and the people began to drink in the Word. The house was well crowded, and the seats well filled, and some of the time not even standing room could scarcely be found, and they would gather around the windows outside, and listen to the truth as it went forth. There were some disturbances in the start of the meeting by some of the baser sort of the people, there being a distillery close at hand, within a few rods of where we held the meeting. They threatened to break up the meeting, and also threatened my life; but the Lord knows how to protect his own. The chief of police on hearing of the disturbance, came to our relief of their own accord, for which we give God all the praise. The officers continued to keep good order while the meeting lasted. The meeting lasted until Friday, Jan. 25, with a number of consecrations, and a little church built up in the city of Tullahoma. On Sunday, Jan. 27, we commenced meeting at a place called unity, about seven miles from the last named place, and held until Friday, Feb. 1st, then leaving the meet- in the hands of dear Bro’s Slate and Robertson, with the help of the Lord, started for Fayetteville, Tenn., to see the little ones in that locality. We pray God to keep all the dear saints in the unity of the Spirit, and the bonds of peace for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Williamston, S. C., Feb. 5, 1895.

Dearly Beloved Saints, Greeting: May the God of all grace fill your hearts with joy and peace, in believing, that ye may abound in hope through the power of the Holy Ghost. Amen. We commenced meeting in the Viola school house near Pelzer, Jan. 4, in the name of Jesus. But on account of so much rain and muddy roads, the attendance was small, most of the time. The meeting continued more than two weeks with very good interest. A few souls were saved, and I am sure that the truth was planted in some hearts to remain with them till the judgment. However, I am sorry to say that some professing to be sanctified, when the truth was preached, would not endure it, and took no part in the meeting, because we did not belong to some sect. We told them, if they would show us in the word of God that we ought to join some man organization, we would do so; but they could not do that, yet they tried to find fault with us for not preaching that which they know God’s word condemns. Rom, 16:17, 18; 1 Cor. 1:10; 2 Pet. 2:1-3. The people want us to teach something that is not in the Bible, and God forbids me, or anyone else to do so. Rev. 22:18, 19; Gal. 1:6-9; 1 Tim. 1:3. May God bless the dear people, and help them to see the truth as it is. After the meeting at Viola, we came to Williamston, and held a meeting ten days for the colored people, in the M. E. house of worship. The attendance was good, and the truth prevailed. Praise God! Many hearts were made to rejoice, as the Lord helped us to unfold the truth, and speak it to them with all boldness, in the power of the Holy Ghost. A few souls were converted, and some were sanctified; and I believe that some have taken their stand upon the word of God, expecting to do what it says, and no more be tossed to and fro, and carried about by the winds of doctrine, by the cunning craftiness of men, Eph. 4:11-14. God bless them. We then returned to the white folks. Went to the Baptist meeting house, to attend prayer meeting. But to our surprise, there was a lecture in town which attracted the attention of all the praying members, if they have any, and not a member of their church (sect) was there that would pray. Surely, “Babylon is fallen.”

Having the consent of the deacons, and some others, we announced meeting for the night following. But on the next day some even denied that they had consented, to please others that were mad about it, and they refused to let us preach, saying that it would burst their church to pieces. That is an evident fact, that it is not the church that Jesus built, for he says the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Matt. 16:18. It must be a restless place to be, in a church that a man, or set of men could tear down; they cannot tell how soon one might come along and knock it over. They say, Peace, when there is no peace. Jer. 6:14.

The white people, not being satisfied by rejecting the truth for themselves only, some of them persuaded the colored Baptists not to let us preach for them, thereby, taking a greater responsibility upon them. “Better have a millstone hanged about his neck, and be cast into the sea. “Woe be unto the man that will not enter himself, neither suffer those that would, to enter.” People seem to think it a light thing to reject the truth, and those who preach it. But, no doubt, they will be greatly surprised in the day of judgment, to find that even the dust off our feet will be a witness against them. We did all we could to get the people out to hear the truth. We proposed to let them correct us if we did not preach it straight, and if they would not come to our meeting, then let us go to them. But they refused to do either, thereby proving that the time has come when they will not endure sound doctrine. 2 Tim. 4:3. May God save them yet if possible.

We went to Pelzer, a factory town of about three or four thousand inhabitants. The whole town is owned by a joint stock company, and ruled by one man, and the captain of the host refused to let us preach in the town; he said he did not think it would do. Says he, “We have enough preaching to the square inch for Pelzer, now.” We went to Bro. Me Nealy’s, just out of town, and preached three times with good results; some were saved. Praise the Lord! People talk about us a great deal, call us false teachers, etc., but have failed to find a man yet, that had enough boldness about him to try to expose us with the word of God. All that hear us, know we have the truth. And most people have better judgment than to try to expose the truth, lest they be found a liar. God bless them! We expect to visit Viola school house again, then return to Anderson, which will be our address for the next month, the Lord willing. Pray for us and the work in this part. Dearly Beloved in the Lord: We arrived at home this morning after a little over two months constant labor of winning souls. This evening finds us blessedly saved, and sanctified wholly. Bless the Lord! We took our departure from Bro. Willis at Trenton, Neb., started on our westward journey to within one mile of the Colorado line. As we were conveyed by Bro. Gillstrap overland, there were appointments arranged all along the rout. Firste night was Saturday. Preached at the Mayflower school house; remained over Lord’s day. Preached twice Sunday evening. Twenty-one raised hands for prayer; one man blessedly saved, but we were under obligation to pass on. Monday a private house was well filled with honest hearted people. Also found dear children of God at this place, whom the Lord is truly leading by his own hand. This meeting lasted until twelve o’clock. One Salvation Army sister pulled her ring from her finger, opened the stove, and threw it in. Bless the Lord! Next morning, passed on to our place of appointment for a meeting. This was at Jaqua, Kan. Here the Lord was truly the potter, moulding vessels unto his own glory, at this place. The people were antiordinance, all but one brother and wife, but God did work in his own wondrous way. Won dear Bro. Johnson and whole family over to the whole truth for God, also a number of others. Some consecrated for justification, some for sanctification. In the whole, a perfect victory for God. Closed meeting with a blessed ordinance meeting at Bro. Lemming’s. Returned to Atwood, went about seventeen miles north to the Skinner neighborhood, begun meeting on Monday night, which lasted two weeks. This place is the most hungry for to hear the truth, of any place we have found. Some came eleven miles. At this place the people, in general, received the Word gladly. Bro. Stockton was sanctified wholly, others were justified freely, for which we give Him all the glory. The dear saints from Cornell attended this meeting. Closed meeting with an ordinance meeting, which was a feast of good things from the Lord. Bless the Lord! From here we went eleven miles north of Stratton in the Leopold neighborhood, opened the ranks against Satan’s kingdom. Here the people are fulfilling Rom. 10:3. We went in the name of the Lord, and the Word went forth according to Isa. 28:17. The Lord only knows what was done here. The non-professors were wonderfully won to the truth. We are now at home until the first of March, then can go wherever the Lord leads. Yours in obedience to the whole gospel,

I do know that he justifies me freely and sanctifies me wholly. I am kept by God’s divine power, ready to be revealed in the last time. I know my life is hid with Christ in God, and my heart condemns me not. My determination is to use all my talents for my Master. Pray for your brother in Christ.

Dear Brethren and Sisters: I will now with the help of the Lord write my testimony. It was five years ago the 30th of October last, since the Lord healed me. My sickness was caused from falling of the womb, ulceration and inflammation. I was sick two years and a half, and after coming to Chicago I was advised to go to a hospital to be examined. The doctor told me my disease was serious, and that with proper care might be cured in three months. Well, as soon as I started his treatment, I became worse, and was taken to the hospital, and the doctor said I must have an operation performed before I could get well again. But it was not the will of the Lord. I became weaker, and so they could not operate, and did not think I could live very long. But the dear Lord laid his hand upon me and showed them all that he is the healer of his children. Before we came to Chicago we lived in Allegan, Mich., and my friends there, as they heard of my being so low, wrote to Bro. Hahn to have him look for a Mrs. Shute, she being in the German hospital. I had been a member of the Methodist sect there, previous to the time of my healing. I had lost all of my religious experience, through lack of teaching, and Satan taking hold of body and soul. And then the Lord directed Bro. Hahn to my bedside to instruct me in His Word. I did not know him, or that my friends wrote to him about me until he told me, and then we could plainly see the Lord’s dealing with us, and after praying with me and telling me about salvation of soul and body, it was all new to me; I had never heard about the Lord being our healer, and afterward became very sick. So I told the nurse not to let that gentleman come in my room again, it seemed to make me worse. But it was Satan’s power. He came again and prayed with me, and I got more spiritual light, and the Lord again accepted me as his child. Praise the Lord! But I could not see at first that healing was for me, also, I had never heard of it before. But the Lord did show me his love, and did not want to take me away from my little children; and then I was brought to a severe test: it was life or death, believe or die. I knew I could not live much longer, if I did not trust in the Lord. I was suffering, intense pain, and could hardly move, when I just raised my voice in prayer to the Lord, and said, Dear Lord, take this pain away, and give me a good night’s rest; and in a few moments I was so much better, that I said, Oh Lord, now I can bear it. I did not think at that moment that I was healed, but I slept all night, and next morning I was well. Oh, I felt so well, and like a new creature. How I praised my dear Lord, and my praises were all summed up in the 103 Psalm. Oh, I praise the Lord to day for the wonderful ways the Lord leads his children, and his love to us. I have not had any need of earthly doctors since, for the Lord is our physician. Praise the Lord! He keeps us from all evil. I have three children, two boys and a little girl; and the little girl was born since my healing, so you can see the Lord did a perfect work. Praise the Lord forever! My boys do not know about doctors; when they are sick they just say, Let us ask the Lord to make us better. They know the Lord will heal them. My little girl had the mumps when one year old. When we got in accordance with God, he healed her, and at the same time took away the tobacco habit from my husband, for which I want to praise the Lord also. To him be all the honor and glory. I do praise the Lord for the light he is giving me day by day, and the light and blessings I receive through the GOSPEL TRUMPET and POSAUNE. They are spiritual food to my soul, although I would like to hear the gospel preached in its purity here. I left the Methodists about two months ago, and am longing to hear the Word preached. May the Lord open the way. I will trust in him. When I told my pastor here of my withdrawal from the church, he said I would be classed with outcasts and sinners. I said, All right, the Lord has made me free, praise the Lord! for whom the Lord makes free, is free indeed. I told him about my healing at his own request, and he said it was because I had done all I could in the line of medicine first; that was all right. So you see he limits the power of God; and I asked him about sanctification. I said I was seeking it. He said, those that claimed that generally turned to be fanatics. Praise the Lord! I know better. I am glad I am through with them, and separated. My husband cannot see it yet. He seems to think the sect is all right. Pray the Lord to open his eyes. Pray for me also, that I can keep a firm stand on the word of God, and be rooted and grounded in all good works. Your sister in the one body of Christ,

And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord, that there shall be the noise of a cry [of wrath] from the fish gate, and an howling from the second, and a great crashing from the hills. Zeph. 1:8-10 Jerusalem is a type of the church. And the fish gate is here used to represent those who deal in fish, and is applied to the false teachers, who make men as the fishes of the sea. They take up all of them with the angle [hook of deception], they catch them in their net [sect], and gather them in their drag [delusions of Satan that drag men into sectism]; therefore, they rejoice and are glad. Therefore, they sacrifice unto their net, and burn incense unto their drag, because by them their portion is fat, and their meat plenteous. Hab. 1:14-16. And as God’s remnant escapes the drag, and are freed from the net, and return to Zion, there is heard indeed a noise of a cry, yea, a great noise from the preachers who made them as the fish of the sea. Every fish lost decreases their portion or salary. Hence, they must cry against the truth, “Fanatic!” ‘Away with it!” “You are tearing down the churches!” And to their fish they cry, “Stay in the net!” This second gate must surely signify the one belonging to the shepherds, or sheep-gate, for from it comes a howling, and we read that the Lord calls his people sheep, and his flock he says are men, Eze. 34:12-31, and those who teach the flock are called shepherds. Eze. 34:2; Jer. 23:4. And the teachers of to day who advocate division, are such as scattered God’s flock into many so-called churches. Housed up in their little sectish pen, they became meat for these ungodly preachers. Eze. 34:5-8. But now, as the God of heaven delivers his elect from these ravenous wolves, Matt. 7:15, a voice of the cry of the shepherds, and an howling of the principal of the flock shall be heard; for the Lord hath spoiled their pasture. Jer. 25:34, 36. There is a voice of the howling of the shepherds, for their glory is spoiled. Zech. 11:3. How these ravening wolves do howl when the truth is preached, that causes every honest soul to escape their clutches. The crashing from the hills, or sects, is fulfilled as honest souls come out, and sectism falls into the pit from whence it emanated, arousing every demon of the regions of night, causing them to out forth every effort to hold their prey. Yet the infallible judgment of the eternal Word hurls them from the pinnacle of pride, into everlasting shame and contempt. There is truly a great crashing heard from sectism. At this very time the command comes from heaven, Go, thee, one way or the other, either on the right hand, or on the left, whithersoever thy face is set. Eze. 21:16. Either with sectism to the bottomless pit, or in Zion to eternal glory. The word of the Lord came unto me again, saying, Also, thou Son of man, appoint [declare] thee two ways, that the sword of the king of Babylon may come: [both Israelite and Babylonian] twain shall come forth out of one land: and choose thou a place, choose it at the head of the way to the city. Verse 19. At the time of this great slaughter or sacrifice, verse 9. 10 the minister of God declares but two ways. On the right, whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin. 1 Jno. 3:9; 5:18. On the left, He that committeth sin is of the devil. 1 Jno. 3:8. No intermediate ground; either direct to heaven, or direct to hell. And this very truth arouses the king of Babylon, or those haughty priests of darkness, who lord it over God’s heritage, and causes them to come forth to defend the ungodliness of sect confusion. The man of God and the Babylonian both come through the valley of judgment, Joel 3:2, 12, where they are judged by the written judgment of heaven’s law. Psa. 149:7-9. Hence, they both came from one land, or both receive the same opportunity to accept or reject the gospel of Christ. As the man of God passes through the valley of judgment, he takes his stand at the head of the way that leads to eternal joys, and cries, This is the way, turn in hither, turn to the right, go to Zion. But at the head of the way, that leads to the perfect love of God, there is another way that leads into sectism and death. Here the king of Babylon — sectish preacher — also takes his stand at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use divination: he made his arrows bright [made his delusions from hell appear to be the genuine thing], he consulted with images, he looked in the liver. Eze. 21:21. Liver here simply means a provider of food. And into this, priests of confusion are continually looking, yea, every one looks for his gain from his quarter [circuit]. Isa. 56:11.

INIQUITY HAS AN END.

But thou, profane, wicked prince [professed minister] of Israel, whose day is come, [to be cast down, when iniquity shall have an end. Eze. 21:25-27. Iniquity has an end now among God’s people. Praise the Lord! Psa. 119:1-3 Zeph. 3:13. Thus saith the Lord God; Remove the diadem, and take off the crown: this shall not be the same: [in the evening light as in sectism,] exalt him that is low, and abase him that is high. I will everturn, overturn, overturn it, and it shall be no more [on any head] until he come whose right it is, and I will give it him. Sectism is overthrown, never to rise; her priests have worn the crown long enough; they no longer rule God’s people as they have in the past, but are brought down from their throne of bigotry, and the diadem restored to the Son of the Most High, whose right it is. Iniquity at an end, and the remnant of God made free, are restored to Zion, and are shouting alleluias to him who is crowned Lord of lords, and King of kings through all eternity.

THE OFFSPRING OF THIS REMNANT ARE SAVED ALSO.

They shall not labor in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the Lord, and their offspring with them. Isa. 65:23. And I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for the good of them, and of their children after them. Jer. 32:39.

Some objected to the article that appeared in the Trumpet in reference to using coercive means in bringing children to a knowledge of God’s love. But all of God’s elect should have lifted their heart and voice to heaven, shouting, Amen, to the light the Lord is throwing on us in regard to such things. Many say, “Well, I told my children what was right, and they will soon be old enough to choose for themselves, and if they make a mistake or failure, I’m not to blame.” Such argument shows a lack of the wisdom of heaven, and an ignorance concerning the law of God. To you, who argue thus, I would say, As you walk through your orchard, perchance you notice a very small apple tree or sprout, lately set in your orchard, that is very crooked. You think it should be straightened, and say to your wife, That tree must be trained to grow straight. Notwithstanding all this you use no force or means to accomplish that end. What is the result? We need not answer, as it is plainly seen. Just so with the child, if left alone without forcing it to forsake the sin of this world, will be no easier changed when old, than that great tree that was left to grow crooked. Am I saying too much when I say that multitudes of parents are much more careful in training a trotting horse, a shepherd dog, or even an apple tree, than they are in looking to the future welfare of their innocent children? But the remnant of the Lord lives in such a way that it is a savior to the offspring, an honor to God, and a blessing to humanity in general. Praise the Lord! A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation; I the Lord will hasten it in his time. Isa. 60:22. Now, dear reader, if you do not correspond with the description given of God’s remnant, remember you are weighed in the balance and found wanting. And may you throw off all vanity, and receive the real solidity of eternal salvation, that will bring you down on a level with God’s holy word, and the “despised few,” who are marching forth unto victory through Jesus Christ our King. WHAT IS SIN?

1 Jno. 5:17. — All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.

3:4 — Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

Jas. 4:17 — Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Rom. 3:20 — Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Prov. 24:9 — The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.

Jas. 1:13 — Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man.

Also imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God. 2 Cor. 10:5. Evil thoughts, if harbored and received into the heart would be sin to us; but when the heart is pure, every thought is brought into captivity, and thus cannot enter into the heart.

CONSEQUENCE OF SIN.

DEPRIVES OF BLESSINGS. Isa. 59:1-4 — Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that he cannot hear: but your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness. None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.

Jer. 2:12, 13 — Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the Lord. For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and have hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns that can hold no water.

17:13 — O Lord, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, and they that depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the Lord, the fountain of living waters.

Mic. 3:4 — Then shall they cry unto the Lord, but he will not hear them: he will even hide his face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings.

DESTROYS ALL RELISH FOR GOOD. Rom. 1:21 — Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Eph. 4:18, 19 — Having the understanding darkenend, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uricleanness with greediness.

Jer. 4:22 — For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding; they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.

RENDERS INFIT TO RECEIVE BLESSINGS. Rom. 1:24, 25 — Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves: who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

Matt. 23:37, 38 — O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

BRINGS DEATH. Rom. 5:12 — Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.

6:23 — For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

EXCLUDES FROM HEAVEN. 1 Cor. 6:9- 11 — Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor coveteous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

Gal. 5:19-21 — Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these, Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, laciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Eph. 5:5 — For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

Rev. 21:27 — And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

22:14, 15 — Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

GOD’S REMEDY FOR SIN.

Zech. 13:1 — In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.

Isa. 1:18, 19 — Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land.

55:7 — Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will, abundantly pardon.

1 Pet. 2:24 — Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

1 Jno. 1:7-10 — But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

DEAR SAINTS OF GOD: May his richest blessings rest upon you all. I feel led to write my testimony. I am saved just now. About three weeks ago I began to feel very bad; two weeks ago I went to meeting at Covert, and came home very sick. My body was terribly diseased. I kept growing worse till Monday, I sent for dear Bro. Byrum. He came and prayed over me and anointed me with oil in the name of the Lord, and the Lord healed my body of all my diseases, and from that hour I have been growing stronger. Oh, bless the Lord! Well, dear ones, this has taught me to obey God and not break his laws. Well, I am just all the Lord’s this morning. Oh, I feel a flood of glory in my soul! Bless the Lord! He is my shepherd and my physician, and my salvation. What more shall I want? Praise God!
