THE WAY OF SALVATION.

—:§:-:§—

IS plainly indicated to His disci..s that He was the way, the truth, … life; and the way taught by Him ..ain that way-faring men though shall not err therein. — Isa. 35:8. ..nission to this world was in the in..f poor dying souls, that they might … eternal life. “I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. — Matt. 9:13. The Apostle Paul … . This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” — 1 Tim. 1:15. an was deeply engulfed in sin and … any human help, having rebelled … God. Jeremiah does not over ..he picture of the state of man when ..s, “the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it.” — Jer. 17:9

… does not alter the hideous portrait ..e says their throat is an open sup.. . With their tongues they have ..eceit. The poison of asps is under ..ps. Their feet are swift to shed blood. ..ction and misery is in their way. Rom. 3:10-23. Isa. corroborates ..me statement when he says: “All we like sheep have gone astray. We have turned every one to his own way: but ..e all an unclean thing, and all our ..ousness as filthy rags. — Isa. 53:6.

Can a blacker line be drawn? and ..ere are only a few of the many pas.. of scripture showing the awful con.. of humanity and the need of repent.. and salvation through the blood. ..t the first preaching that Jesus did entering His ministry was to warn ..rs to repent. — Matt. 4:17. Peter, apostle of Jesus, takes up the same of preaching on the day of Pentecost ..aid, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the Holy Ghost.” — Acts 2:38. At ..er time, in company with John, He … up to the temple at the hour of praye..d preached another glorious sermon … .hich He exhorted, “Repent ye there.. and be converted that your sins may … ..otted out when the times of refresh.. shall come from the presence of the … .” — Acts 3:18. Every unsaved man ..t turn away and forsake his sins and ..ive remission through the blood. “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness, and unrighteousness of men.” — Rom. 1:18.

..onviction of our sinfulness is always … God by the Holy Ghost. In speaking of the Holy Spirit or Comforter, Jesus said, “And when He is come, He will reprove (margin, convince) the world of sin, and righteousness and of judgment. — Jno. 18:8. Have you ever felt, dear unsaved friends, that you was not ready to die, and that you was in open rebellion to God? If so, it was the Holy Spirit striving with you, showing you your sinfulness and the end of your wickedness, in order to lead you to give your heart to God that He might save you. Therefore repent and turn away from your sins, and make your peace with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Repentance is indispensable to becoming converted to God. Nothing else will be accepted by the Lord as substitute. There is no such thing as getting into the path of life, except by the gate of repentance. “He that climeth up some other way is a thief and a robber.” You can as successfully learn a strange language without the knowledge of the alphabet as to become a christian without repentance. The divine injunction is to Repent, REPENT.

Repentance is not merely a sorrow for sin. Thousands make a grand mistake here and make no progress in the christian life; live a life of dead empty profession; and never realize the blessedness of God’s eternal love. Repentance is not only a sorrow for sin, but includes a turning away from sin, and an abhorrence of all that is evil. It will bring the sinner to his knees imploring divine deliverance from the guilt, and love, and power of sin. Our salvation does not consist in the reformation of outward acts and life, but it takes hold upon the heart, the soul and causes a radical change to take place. This work of grace must be a reality and one that will change the thoughts, desires and disposition as well as the life of the sinner. The Psalmist prayed: “Have mercy upon me O Lord according to thy lovingkindness. According unto the multitude of thy tender mercies, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.” — Psa. 51:1, 2

There is only one way to get rid of sin, and that is by going to Christ a ransom for all, who died the awful death on the cross that we might be redeemed through His blood. When we go burdened down with sin and lay at His feet, He meets us there, and gives us His tender love in return for coming.

The forgiveness of sins, as well as all other spiritual graces, is received through Christ by faith. “Therefore being justified by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” — Rom. 5:1. “Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe.” — Rom. 3:22. “In whom we have redemption through the blood even the forgiveness of sins.” — Col. 1:14.

This faith by which we are justified includes both belief and trust, an assent of the mind that the Gospel is true, and that salvation is of God through Jesus Christ His dear Son. It must be more than an intellectual assent. It must be a deeply seated conviction in the heart, accompanied by an implicit trust for the Now Salvation. A present deliverance from sin, the blotting out of transgressions.

When this deliverance is realized in the heart then joy will follow, hatred for our enemies will cease and nothing but love will remain for them. Paul well describes this state of the soul in his letter to the Corinthians. “Therefore if any man be in Christ he is a new creature, old things are passed away, behold all things are become new.” — 2 Cor. 5:17. Sins from the least to the deepest dye that we loved, are hated and shunned. The righteousness of God is a delight, and the will of God a pleasure.

Being therefore justified freely by His grace we are exhorted to go on unto perfection. Namely entire sanctification. The prayer of our Saviour was that believers might be sanctified. “Sanctify them through thy truth, thy Word is truth.” — Jno. 17:17. The objection may be raised that this prayer was only for the disciples; but Jesus says, “Neither pray I for these alone, but for all them also which shall believe on me through their word.” — Jno. 17:20. Hence this blessing is for every one that is truly born of God. Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God. — Heb. 6:1. Repentance be longs to sinners, and having repented and received forgiveness of our sins by faith through Christ we have no condemnation resting upon us; for we walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit; for the the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. — Rom. 8:1.

Leaving the first principles, we press on to the completion of the blessed work already begun in our souls. We are justified and it is now our duty and privilege to be sanctified. When writing to the brethren at Rome, Paul says: “I beseech you therefore brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice holy and acceptable unto God which is your reasonable service, and be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your minds, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.” — Rom. 12:1, 2.

The first act is that of consecration, which is to be a living, holy and an acceptable offering. A sinner cannot consecrate; he has nothing to offer; he is dead, under the law and not under grace. Carnal soul under sin. The sinner is commanded to repent. The Christian does not repent, but consecrate, keeping himself unspotted from the world. “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” — 1 Jno. 2:15, 16.

“And be ye not conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.” In writing to the church of the Thessalonians, Paul says: “For this is the will of God even your sanctification.” If the brethren at Rome and Thessalonians had received the inward cleansing of sanctification at conversion, why did Paul exhort them to it again. The same Apostle in his letter to Corinthian brethren, exhorted them to heart purity. “Having these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” — 2 Cor. 7:1. This was also addressed to brethren, converted men and women, and now they are exhorted to the perfecting of holiness. If they had been perfected in holiness, they would have been sanctified, but the apparent manifestation of the filthiness of the flesh and spirit, was proof enough that they were not yet sanctified. When Paul was writing to Timothy, he exhorted him to steadfastness in Him who hath saved us and called us unto a holy calling. God has not called us unto holiness, until He has saved us from our guilt and sins. To sinners He says repent. To penitents He says: believe and be saved. To the believers God says, “be ye holy.” When God says, be ye perfect even as your Father is perfect, He is not addressing the devil’s children, but God’s; those that are truly born of the Spirit. There is not a text in the entire Bible commanding sinners to be holy.

Sanctification, like justification, is obtained by faith on the part of the applicant. Dear soul step on the promises of God, get under the blood, and be saved to the uttermost; that Christ may dwell in your heart by faith, that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth and length and depth and height; and to know the love of Christ which passeth knowledge, that ye might he filled with all the fulness of God. Eph. 3:17-19. Amen!

From Judaism To Christianity.

—§-o-§—

I continued studying the Old Testament, and the more I read it, the more I saw that my being a Jew would never save me, and that I must have something better than my fastings and prayers. God told me in His Word that which I deeply realized, how that I was born in sin and shapen in iniquity, and I often implored Him to “Wash me from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sins (Ps. li), neither did I ask Him in vain. More than eight months had passed without my looking into the New Testament, but my conscience would not let me rest any longer. The glorious prospect of life eternal which had been opened before me in the Gospel filled my heart with restless yearnings day and night. Jesus was the only object of my meditations, and I resolved to read His Word again, and it was during this second reading that it pleased God to open my eyes to see and my heart to receive the Lord Jesus as my Redeemer. No pen can adequately describe the intense joy of my soul — I was quite overcome with the love of the lovely Jesus. I fell on my knees, but my heart was so full with the consciousness that all my sins were forgiven that all I could say was, “Praise the Lord! praise the Lord!”

Two mouths had elapsed since this happy change of being born again, and becoming conscious of the new creation in my soul. No one can imagine how deeply I felt for my poor wife, and how earnestly I prayed for her conversion; yea, with tears I besought the Lord, if it pleased Him, to make her to feel her sins, and to lead her to the Friend of sinners, even the Lord Jesus Christ. I felt I must tell her of the great change which had taken place in me, and of my anxiety to make a public confession of my faith in Christ. How to do it I did not know; the spirit was indeed willing, but the flesh was weak. I knew her enmity against the Lord Jesus Christ, and especially since her father’s death she was more bitter against Him than before. The loving smiles she once gave me when I used to come home in the evening were now few and far between. This coolness I deeply felt. She more than once told me that she thought I hastened her father’s death by grieving him in loving that Jesus more than I did him, and that the whole family thought so was very clear from their behaviour towards me whenever they met or saw me. There was certainly a change for the better in her behaviour within the last week. She was more cheerful and more like herself than she had been ever since her father’s death. This change I attributed to the fact of the improved health of our beloved child. One evening when I came home, to my great joy she received me with her usual loving salutation, and I thought that this was the providential time when I could best communicate to her the desire of my heart, and I asked the Lord to help me. After the children were in bed, and we were talking quietly together, I said, “My dear, I have something to tell you which I hope will neither displease nor grieve you. You must have seen that I am not what I once was; in fact, I am a Christian, and am anxious to confess Jesus publicly.”

She looked in my face, and gave me one of her own loving smiles, and said, ”How very strange! This evening I purposed opening my mind to you on the very same subject, and I will now tell you how it all has happened. After my father’s death I was, as you know, in great distress of spirit. I loved him dearly. He had been a good father to me, and the loss of him made me partly so indifferent to you. About a mouth ago I found the hiding- place of your New Testament, and at first I said to myself, ‘he shall never see that again, it shall go into the fire,’ and as I was about to commit it to the flames, I thought I would just see what rubbish there was in it, and the first words my eyes fell on were these: ‘Let not your hearts be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.’ I could not credit my own eyes, and I looked again. ‘Yes,’ I said, ‘they are there, those precious words. I was in ‘trouble,’ and I ‘believe in God,” and must I believe in Jesus too? What comforting thoughts these were to my wounded spirit I cannot describe. I read the whole chapter, and I felt so happy that instead of putting it into the fire I replaced it where I found it, with the determination of reading it again, which I have done every day since, and all I have discovered in it has been wisdom and love. But I had no real peace until this morning, when I read Matt. xxvii. I wept bitterly over what Jesus suffered for sinners, and while I was reading and weeping, I thought I heard a sweet, loving voice, saying,’ It is all for you; I have endured all this for you.’ ‘For me, Lord,’ I said, ‘then I will believe, help thou my unbelief.’ I then sobbed for joy, and I felt such peace in my soul which I never experienced before,” and here my wife burst into tears again.

It was an affecting sight. I was not the least prepared for this unexpected and joyful news. My cup of blessing appeared to be too full for me and we wept together like children. I kissed my dear wife as I never kissed her before. It was the kiss of mutual love in the Gospel, and for the first time we bent our knees together to praise God for His matchless grace towards us. I could scarcely sleep for joy. I awoke early next morning with a peace in my soul to which worldlings are strangers, and went to the office with feelings that I was what I really felt myself to be, the happiest man in the world. “What more do I want?” I often repeated to myself, as I was hurrying along the busy streets of this great city. „I am a Christian, I know I am, for God’s Spirit bears witness with my spirit that I am a child of God; my dear wife has passed from death unto life, being born from above, and now my only desire and prayer to God is to see our dear children loving and serving that precious Jesus whom we love.

HEALED BY THE POWER OF GOD.

—:o:—

Grand Junction, Mich. Feb. 27th, 1890.

Dear Brethren: — God bless you all with the riches of His love, and ever keep you filled with His glory.

I desire to honor God, by telling what He has done for me. A short time ago I was greatly afflicted with an abcess on my side, which caused such intense pain and suffering, that I was near death’s door. It became so bad that I could not move my arm. For 3 weeks I suffered in this way taking morphine to kill the pain, but as soon as the effect of the morphine would leave, the pain would return as bad as ever. The doctor lanced it 3 times and refused to do it any more. During this time I had failed to call upon God to heal me, until one night the Lord showed me in a dream that it was my privilege to be healed; so I sent for some of God’s children to come and pray for me, but my faith did not seem to take hold of God for the healing; shortly afterwards I sent for some more of the brethren who came and anointed me with oil and laid on hands, and the pain immediately left, and I was enabled to use my arm, but that night the pain seemed to come back worse than ever, and I thought the Lord was going to take me home, to live in His heavenly kingdom, so I called my family to my bed-side and kissed them and bid them good-bye, and told them I was going to die. But my wife said, “no the Lord will heel you”, and that seemed to give me courage, and the Lord impreseed me more than ever that I could be healed. So I sent at once to the Trumpet Office for Bro. Warner and Bro. Byrum to pray for me, and they arose from their bed, (as it was about midnight) and asked God to heal me. And before my boy returned I was healed. The pain left instantly. The Lord did the lancing and done a complete work of it, and ever since that time I have been entirely free from pain. I am healed by the power of God. Blessed be His name! to him I give all the glory.

I can reccommend the Lord as a great physician, who forgiveth all our iniquities; who healeth all our diseases. Psa. 103:3 I am saved and sanctified, washed and redeemed through the blood of Jesus.

EDITORIAL NOTES.

==========

ONE of the most subtile tricks of the devil to break the unity of the Spirit and the bonds of peace, is to set some one to agitating things of no profit, contending about some whim of superstition that is utterly foreign to the Scriptures, or contending about things that pertain wholly to the gifts and callings of some one else, and not any of their business at all. Brethren see that you keep yourself in the love of God, and in the Spirit and Word of God. And do not let the devil use you to bring about a peace disturbing contention for Christs sake.

—:o:—

MUCH of the time, we have a supply of articles, and testimonies beyond our capacity to publish; therefore if your matter does not appear in the paper you should not allow the tempter to suggest, that we have received some intelligence against your standing in Christ, nor that there is necessarily something crooked in what has been written. Moreover let not these words prevent any one from writing your testimony, or an article, when clearly led by the Lord.

—:o:—

CANP MEETINGS: — It is time the glorious camp and grove campaign begins to receive attention. Bro. Palmer spoke of putting a notice in the Trumpet, asking if any person knew of a good camp ground located near railroads, with good water supply, and conveniently for the saints in Mich. or south western Michigan, to write him at Bangor, Mich., and let him know. By all means a new and much better pavillion must be erected before another meeting is held on the Bangor camp-ground, and if a more practical location can be procured before farther substantial building? are erected, it should be known. There is a beautiful grove with 66 acres of good land bordering on a delightful lake just a mile north of this office, which would be a delightful place, being handy to the cross R. R. lines here. Much of the land is nearly cleared; and it would make a deltghtful home, if God would send some saint to purchase it, and lease about 20 acres for a camp ground. I am told it can be bought for about $12, or $15 per acre, if the Lord leads any one to secure it, amen! He would do a good work, and not lose his reward.

Let all, who wish camp and grove meetings, especially in the forepart of the summer, begin to send in their notices, and calls, and state about when desired.

—§-o-§—

FREQUENTLY we get statements that certain persons who love the truth, would love to take the Trumpet, but are too poor. These brethren seem to have overlooked our frequent announcement, “free to the poor.” And we now authorize all our readers to freely send the names of such poor persons as you deem really in love with the truth; and we shall take pleasure in sending them the Trumpet as long as there is hopes of doing them good.

IN several different communities, of late, certain persons are having then- minds agitated respecting women of God being called to preach, ordained, etc. Articles have been sent us pro and con, which however the Lord has not led us to use; but promise our readers a careful presentation of the Scriptures on the whole matter in our next issue if the Lord wills.

—:o:—

SOME one asks “whether a consecrated child of God can set a price on any work he does?”

Ans. Certainly he can do so. It were a very fanatical idea that a holy child of God cannot say what his labor is worth. Suppose he were a mechanic, would the farmer, who knows nothing about his trade, be capable of setting the price for him? No, the workman knows his own business, and no one so well as the holy workman.

—:o:—

THERE is a brother who believes himself called of God to come in our office and publish a German paper. We should be glad to have some real salvation light sent out to the German people. And should this brother’s aspiration be of God, a brother who can talk english, with, at least, a common German education, will soon be wanted here to learn German type-setting. May the Lord find the man.

THE following has appeared in various secular papers. It will explain itself

TALMAGE’S SERMONS FROM ABROAD.

C. Z., Lamar, Mo., asks: “Please give some of our readers a little light. By what means, and by what route, was Talmage’s sermon — delivered in Jerusalem — transmitted to New York? What was the shortest probable time between delivery there, and its publication in New York.?”

The sermons are not transmitted at all. There is no telegraph to any point in the Holy Land; hence it will be seen that his sermons at Jerusalem, at Cana, at the rupposed site of Capernaum, could not have been transmitted after their delivery. And they were not. The entire series were written before he left home, and none of them were telegraphed across the ocean. It is Thursday, December 26, as this is written, and to-night THE BLADE’S copy of Talmage’s sermon of Sunday, the 29th, will reach us by mail from New York. Talmage prepared them all before he left, and took copies with him, leaving the sermons to be distributed weekly by mail to the papers publishing them. We may say that none of Talmage’s sermons have ever been telegraphed. The sermon he was to have preached the Sunday the Tabernacle was burned had been sent out in this way, and when the fire occurred a new opening was telegraphed to the papers printing the sermons, Which stated that “owing to the burning of the Tabernacle, Dr. Talmage did not preach, but the following is the sermon he had prepared for the occasion.” On his numerous trips, when he is absent for two or three Sundays, he has always prepared his sermons before hand the same as those of his present European trip.

E. R., Motomer, Wis., writes: “If Dr. Talmage wrote his sermons before he left for the Holy Land, how was it that he described the terrible cyclone in his sermon whilst crossing the ocean? in that sermon ho said all on board were praying, and said, ‘Place a man where he has an ocean under him and a cyclone overhead, and he will pray right straight to the mark.’ ”

The editor of the Bureau has not read the sermon in question, but if Talmage referred to a cyclone, he must certainly have imagined it, as the sermon was assuredly written before he set his foot on shipboard.

Toledo Blade.

This is a good representation of the abominable fraud and deception of babylon. The whole thing is a pompous empty show. All lying is sanctified by the religion of to-day. Think of that world- worshiped hypocrite, coolly writing up a sermon in New York in which is described a fearful cyclone encountered on a voyage from New York to the eastern world, and the man had not yet started on the imagined stormy voyage. The more craft and deception a sect priest is capable of, the more he is lauded in this corrupt and perverse generation.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD

Beaver Dam. Ind. Feb. 28. 1890.

Dearly Beloved in Christ: — We are happy to report through the Gospel Trumpet that we are saved to the uttermost, for which we give God all the glory.

After the Columbia City meeting we came home and held meeting with the saints over Sunday. We met at Bro Henry Haldermans on Lord’s day, and God was with us in power. Praise God, two souls came to the altar and were set free from all sin and made to shout the high praises of God, for their escape from under the power of darkness. The Lord melted every heart in the room. Some of the little ones were made to leap, while others wept for joy. It was a foretaste of heaven on earth. The saints al this place have the victory, and the Church is in a good condition to work for God. We have no meeting-house yet, but intend to build one at Beaver Dam; and one three miles west on Bro. Ballenger’s farm, one half mile from the saints’ camp-ground, the coming summer, the Lord willing.

On the 12, we were called at the home of Bro. O. A. harding, now a resident of Fulton Co. formerly of Lagrange Co. Ind. We found his wife in a very critical condition; her mind had become deranged from the effect of the La Grippe. The Lord had healed her of the Asthma eight years ago. Praise the Lord! We acted on the promises of God found in Mark 16:17, 18. Jas. 5:14, 15, and the Lord done the work. Bro. Harding informed us by mail that the Lord restored her to her right mind the same night, for which we give God all the glory. “Sing praises to the Lord which dwelleth in Zion, declare among the people his doings.” — Psa. 9:11. We expect to hold a few meetings in that neighbor-hood as soon as the Lord opens up the way. That will be a new field of labor. From there we went to Marshall Co. Ind., begun meeting on the 13th and continued until the 24th. The Lord helped us to preach the Word with the Holy Ghost, and the wisdom that cometh from above. We had large congregations and the people listened attentively to the teaching. We never saw such interest manifested by both old and young. We believe that Cod will raise up a goodly number of souls in the near future. Babylon is deal there. The saints were very much encouraged and strengthened. Nine of the saints from Beaver Dam were with us over Lord’s day, which added greatly to the interest of the work. We closed meeting on Sunday night, started home Monday morning; stopped at Bro. Widners and had prayer meeting, which resulted in the salvation of his wife and daughter; the daughter had been taking medicine for four weeks. She took the Lord for her physician, gave up her medicine; we anointed her in the name of the Lord and she claimed her healing. May the blessings of God be with the few saints at that place. “Fear not little flock is it not your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” We ask the dear saints to pray for us.

Your Bro’s saved and sanctified.

March 3, 1890.

Dear Saints: — We rejoice this morning in a present salvation; and magnify the holy name of Jesus that He saves sanctifies by His own precious blood, through the operations of the Holy Ghost, and gives us power over all the forces of the enemy. We have just returned from Johnstown where dear Bro. Eldridge has been holding meeting for a little over a week, with grand and glorious results on the Lord’s side; and we are happy to report to the Trumpet readers, what the Lord has done in that part of His vineyard. All glory to the matchless name of Jesus for the mighty and awful power in which He moved throughout the whole meeting. There were foul souls saved from sin, and a number of consecrations for entire sanctification. Sectarians were considerably roiled up, showing the mixed elements in them, — while professing to be free, and standing in an antagonistic attitude toward the truth, as it is in Jesus, they proved the assertion which made, to be true, when he told us there he was a vast difference between perfect patience, and bottled up impatience. The church had for some time previous been in a divided and cut up condition, that seemed to give the powers of darkness full sway in the community — so much so, that as … last resort to attempt to stop the progre.. of the Spirit, and operations of Go, the … sent one poor soul, filled with foul spirit seemingly fresh from the pit, to the altar in mockery, but the mighty power so singled him out, and exposed his base motive that every lamb of the flock was protected against the deception, and sinners were ma.. to stand in awe of the Got] of Israel. I praises be to our God for the wonder.. lessons He taught us in this case. Yea … saw “devils believe and tremble;” … they would not let their willing victim … pent of his sins, and get his soul sav.. . May the God of all grace, yet grant m.. that poor captive, for whom Christ died … repentance; and may it be a warning … sinners not to trample under their feet, … precious blood of Jesus, doing despite … the Spirit of grace, by treating with o.. tempt the wonderful opportunity of gett.. their souls saved. Beware, beware p.. lost sinner bow you deal with God. O.. is not mocked, but whosoever will may … saved. Meeting commenced Feb. 2 … and closed Mar. 2nd. and was one of g.. profit to all of us. Instruction run d.. and thorough. The church was much ..tied, and may the dear Lord ever keep flock, thus safely sheltered by His ete.. love, from the ravenous wolf. May … bless and use Bro. E. greatly to His h.. and glory in the salvation of many … precious souls is our prayer. Amen! H.. God that we enjoy this uttermost salva.. with glory and victory in our soul, and … mighty power of God resting upon us. … are ready to do any, and every thing … wills us to. Amen and amen.

Grand Junction, Mich.

We do sincerely thank God for a wonderful work done in Jesus’ name. Amen! Truly his dealings with the people in the vicinity of the old log house, 4 miles from Grand Junction, is wonderful.

Meetings commenced there Feb. 9th. Bro. Warner spoke to the people in the evening, and Bro. Palmer continued the meeting up till Friday, Bro Warner again to Monday the 16th when the Lord sent us there, Bro. Palmer being called elsewhere, to carry on the meeting. It continued until the 27th with good results. Bro. Warner of the Trumpet family re-inforced us again in the work over sabbath the 23rd.

During this series of meetings, about 30 endeavored to consecrate, but out of that number only about 22 were willing to die the death, and pay the full price required of them by the Word. A number who seemed to have started with a good determination, were unwilling, when the testing time came to surrender all to God; so they went back like those who started to follow Christ; and when the testing time came they all forsook him, but the apostles. Then Jesus turned to them and said: “Will ye go away also?” But Peter replied, “to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.” Thus we, who count the cost, are constrained to say at this present time; looking around, we see no place of safety, but Christ the high tower. No other place to go.

The most of those who consecrated for pardon went on to sanctification; but others have not as yet had the opportunity to do so; they are ready to obey the Spirit in this particular, when the proper time comes. Many backsliders returned during the meeting; and God wonderfully settled His people down upon the Rock. May the grace of God keep them free from the devil’s clutches, is our prayer. Amen!

God has blessed some with a wonderful experience, in cleansing them from the appetite of tobacco and intoxicating drinks and filled them with the Holy Spirit. May the Lord keep them to the end! Many were under the thunders of Mt. Sinai and the wranglings of a guilty conscience, but would not subject themselves to the Will of God. We closed meeting Friday the 27th and went over to Bro. Joseph Smith’s hall. Had a precious ordinance meeting hack at the log bethel Sabbath eve., March 2nd, since which we have been holding- services at Bro. Smith’s. A few have consecrated themselves to the Lord.

Pray the Lord to bless and use us to His glory. Amen!

B. E. Warren.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — We are gloriously saved, and filled with the love, and power. Hallelujah!

We closed meeting at Clam Lake with a glorious victory on the Lord’s side. We then came to this place, and the brethren procured the old School-house, which is in the central part of town” and is a large room. We comenced in Jesus’ name to held up the standard of holiness. All the powers of hell have been arrayed against the truth since we began, but thanks be unto God who giveth us the victory through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. There has been 12 who came forward, and sought the Lord for sanctification, or justifiication thus far, and we look for more to follow; and we are praising God for deliverance of some more of the M. E convicts, who have esecaped, and found Jesus precious to their souls. Praise God, although the M. E. power is greatly alarmed, we are praising God with all our ransomed power. Hallelujah! We expect to remain here, and hurl the truth into the midst of the people as long as the Lord shall direct; and then go whithersoever He leadeth. There are many doors open for the Gospel in this northern country; And they are calling, us in every direction to come and hold meeting. We pray God to send more labourers, into the harvest. We pray God to lead some of the brethren who labour, in word, and doctrine this way to help us in this glorrious warfare.

Your Bro. saved in Jesus.

Indian Springs, Mo., Feb. 20, ’90.

Dear Brethren: — I feel it would please God for me to write my testimony and report of the meeting just closed at Eva. I am saved and sanctified through the blood this morning and out on the straight line for God without compromise with the devil. To the report, sister Sunderland and husband, myself and others have been pushing the battle at Eva, 6 weeks; closed last Sabbath night with good results. Sixty-two professions, about 40 sanctified and 8 received the ordinance of baptism by immersion; others waiting to get ready. We also observed the ordinances. We began meeting last night at Indian Springs; good meeting, 2 at the altar, very good attendance.

Yours in the war; love to all the saints through the TRUMPET.

Bangor, Mich., Mar. 7, 1890.

Dear Brethren — Since my last report 5 others have stepped out for God at Deer Creek, Ind. When we first went there, there was much prejudice and strong threats against us because of false stories. Some thought us to be Mormons, some thought us to be Christian Science or faith cure, etc. etc. One man told us at the close of the first night that we had better get out of the country. We commenced meeting there the evening of the 19th of Feb. and the evening of the 21st, a threatening letter was sent to us, a copy of which we here insert.

Feb. 21 1890.

Cass.

we will send you a few lines to get out of here we will give you foul mouth good for nothen treash you arr pretend to preatch the gospel. Are know that your nothen but theives and we will you untill to morrow to go we mean what we say iff you dont teak worning to thiss we will s’reash oll of you on the fearst lim we come to

plas take warning +

No name was signed to the letter, but a representation of cross hones was attached. The first night after we received the letter we read to the people our commission. “Go ye therefore,” etc. We gave them to understand that Cannonry, bayonets, ropes, rotten eggs, tar and feathers nor any other thing should be able to deter us from preaching the gospel in its purity, for the commission enjoined us to teach all things, also it enjoined God to be with us even unto the end of the world, and that we would not fear him who had no power over the soul. Well bless the good Lord; we continued to preach the truth to the people, prejudice soon moved away, the people began to confide in us and were compelled to say, truly these are the people of God. If we could have had the school-house longer there would, no doubt, have been a noble work done for God. A strong desire for our return in the near future was expressed among the people. We pray the dear Lord to bless the dear ones in that place who have given themselves to the service of the Lord; also to save others who are under conviction. We ask God especially to work upon the hearts of those who would do us harm. Amen!

To-day, March 7th, we start for Hamilton, Gratiot Co. Mich., to work for the Lord. May He give us many souls at that place.

Wymore, Neb., Mar. 4, 1890.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — May the Lord wonderfully bless you, one and all, and keep you pure and free in your souls, filled with all the fulness of God.

Well, beloved, we feel led of the Lord to report some News from the Field, to let the saints know how the work is moving in Nebraska. God is wonderfully moving on the hearts of the people, convicting and saving precious souls from all sin. Glory to His dear name forever. O praise the Lord for His wonderful works to the children of men. O how good the Lord is to all who call upon Him out of a pure heart.

I left home and came to Table Rock, Neb., the 24th of Feb., and stopped over Sunday with the saints. We found them in a good, lively condition, still moving on for God. The Lord wonderfully blessed our visit with them, in strengthening them, and also in saving some, converting and sanctifying their souls. We had some wonderful grand, and glorious meetings at Table Rock. We came on to Victor school-house, 12 miles north-west of Gresham, Neb., where we had a few good meetings with the saints at that place. We found the saints generally in a very good condition. Meeting continued 4 or 5 days in power. One soul was pardoned, then Satan was aroused, and the school-house was closed. Of all the hard, dark places I have ever been, I believe this (at Victor School-house) to be the worst. Yet there are some good, honest souls there in that country. May God bless and save them. From thence, we came 4 miles south-west of Gresham, and began meeting in the name of Jesus. God was with us in mighty power, convicting the people, and winning their hearts to the truth. We had meeting in an old U. B. Meeting-house, which was very open, and it turned very cold so we had to close the meeting. Many honest hearts were won to the truth. We hope to hear of many of them turning to the Lord and getting saved from all sin. From there we came to Kennesaw, Neb., where we began meeting in Jesus’ name. God was with us in mighty power, convicting and saving many dear souls. God gave us wonderful victory from the first, and souls began to yield to the call to holiness. O Hallelujah to our God forever and ever. This was the most powerful meeting I have been in for some time; and still it goes on in power. I left there this morning. Last night the hall, which was 20 x 40, was crowded; good interest and many more are deeply convicted, and are earnestly enquiring the way. May God bless and save them. Up to last night there had been 7 professions of pardon, and 19 to sanctification. O how their faces did shine, as they testified to the salvation of their souls. Oh that God will keep them pure and free in their souls. Babylon has been having meeting nearly all winter, and none saved. Truly salvation is hoped for in vain in the hills, (sects,) none there. Truly babylon is fallen. We left dear Bro’s Willis and Berrie to continue the meeting in Jesus’ name. Oh that He may use them in leading many more to God in that place. Bro. Willis is going out into the Work of the Lord this summer, the Lord willing. The Lord is wonderfully preparing him for work. God bless dear Bro. Willis and keep him all on fire for God. The dear children of God at Kennesaw said they were tired of eating hazel brush, and drinking foul water furnished by the priests of baal. Their eyes are fully open to the delusions of sectism, and they have heard the voice of God, saying: “Come out of her my people.” — Rev. 18:l-4. They came home to Zion leaping and shouting. Hallelujah! Isa. 35:8—10. The whole town and country is stirred for miles; many came to meeting from 7 to 12 miles, and several were saved who live in the country. The way is opened up there alt around in the country for Bible salvation and holiness. Oh that God will send more servants into the field, filled with the Holy Ghost. Truly the work is great, and so few to work. We came here to-day to pitch the battle in Jesus’ name, against all sin; will begin meeting tonight, the Lord willing. There are only two here who claim to be free. I am expecting Bro. Stover from Table Rock soon Let all the saints pray mightily for me at this place. Pray for the meeting. O hour my soul does rejoice to see souls made free from sin. O hallelujah to my God for complete salvation from all sin. I remain your your free Bro. in for the whole war.

Beloved Saints::: — I am led of the Spirit to testify to the justifying, sanctifying, and satisfying portion.

O I do praise His holy name for keeping me day by day. O I do praise the Lord that my husband and I are free from the M. E. sect, which I have been a member for 20 yrs. But the last 2 years of that time I became dissatisfied with their teachings, and found it was contrary to the Word of God. I told them that they were not doing the Will of God; and the Lord appeared to me in a dream, and told me to come out from among them, and I promised Him I would. About 1 1/2 years after I that heard of Bro. Schell preaching this evening light, so we went to hear him.

I praise the Lord that I am free from sectism and all the wiles of the devil. I praise God for full and free salvation that cleanses from all sin.

Dear saints, pray for my healing. I have had hands laid OIL for ray healing, but I promised the Lord that whatsoever He wanted me to do I would do it. So He saw fit to call me to work for Him, but I was not willing to do it, but He says He will not heal a disobedient child; but today I have promised to do the will of God.

Your sister sanctified to do His Will.

Dear Brethren: — The Lord is wonderfully preserving my soul. Praise His holy name! I have been called to pass through many fiery trials, but I have always found the grace of God sufficent for me. O how I praise the Lord for the way He is leading His little ones, and for the blessed light that is spreading all ever the land. It is a wonderful salvation unto those who accept it. Praise the Lord O my soul and all that is within me praise His holy name! The Church here is more settled and knit together than ever before. Bro. Pathen is a power for God. Bro. Stover is going out into the work of the Lord. I am trusting the Lord for all things. He is my physician for soul and body. O how sweet to sink into His will. I am so glad my soul is saved. Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!

Dear Brethren: — I feel led of the Lord to write my testimony. I praise God for the sweet peace, and joy I have in my soul, just now I cannot praise Him enough, for the mercy, and love He daily bestows upon me. Ha has cleansed me from the use of tobacco, of which I used ten cents worth a week, and somtimes more. But praise God, He has removed all desire for the filthy weed; Also for tea, and coffee. When I was a sinner, I heard the saints testify, to full salvation: I thought they were not telling the truth, hat since the Lord has sanctified my soul. I realize the half was never told. O I praise God for this wonderful salvation, which keeps me free from all sin, and gives me victory over the trials, and temptations of this life: my trust is filly centered in the Lord and I am determined by His grace, to walk in all the light He gives me. I ask the dear saints to pray for me, that I may ever prove faithful to God.

Dear Bro. Warner: — I have received 2 of your papers. I am glad to get them: they are food to my soul to read them.

I would like for some of the saints to come through here if it is the Lord’s Will. There are a few saints here and we do not have much preaching.

I feel it would be to the glory of God to add my testimony. I was justified about 10 years before I was sanctified; during that time I lived up to all the light I had, but felt there was something more that I needed. 3 years ago Bro. Richey came into our neighborhood and preached; and bless God I received light on sanctification and received the blessed experience Praise God! I am still walking in the light; saved from all sin, and the God of peace sanctifies me wholly, and kept by the power of God through faith, and not of myself, but it is the gift of God. I ask the prayers of all the dear saints that I may be kept low and humble at the feet of Jesus-

Dear Trumpet Readers: — Praise the Lord! Some 3 months ago the Lord sent me a message by Pro. Wm N. Smith. I accepted the message and become happy in Christ. The sects here say it is not good for the evangelists to go through the country gathering a few of God’s lambs together in a few places, then go away and leave them without the care of some of the churches, only to be devoured by the wolves. Thank God, we do not fear the wolves as much as we do the sects. Christ is our shepherd, end we know his voice, we are having meetings 3 times a week, and we give God the glory and receive His blessings.

Dearly Beloved Saints: — We have no preaching here, and we do hope and pray that the blessed Lord will lead some true saints of God with power and the Holy Ghost in preach to us. I think there can be a few precious souls saved here, although there is much of darkness and sin. Put I know there are a few who are willing to accept the true light if they only had some one to point out the true way to them. We are standing firm for the Lord Jesus and striving in our weakness to do our Master’s will as if was made known to us. We desire the prayers of all the saints of God desire the prayers of all the saints of God that we may be true followers of Him, and that He may lead us out more and more into the ocean of His love.

THE LATTER DAY SAINTS

__________

A SOUL DESTROYING, GOD DISHONORING WAY.

—‡o‡—

“THERE is a way that seemeth right unto man: but the end thereof are the ways of death.” — Prov. 14:12.

Of all the false ways in this world of ours, there are none more false and corrupt than those of the daughter of the mother of harlots,” bearing the name of the “Church of Christ; of latter day saints.”

This daughter was brought forth by the “mother of harlots,” on the eighth day of April, A. D. 1830, and the naming of her was left entirely to one “Joseph Smith” of Palmyra, N. Y. And she now, being fifty nine years of age, has gained quite a degree of strength, and many are bowing the knee at her throne.

We will call in question some of her false ways, and laws, and compare them with God’s eternal Word.

This daughter, which assumes the name of the “Church of Christ,” affirms in her articles of faith, that God has raised up a prophet like unto Moses, who was to translate the book of Mormon; and by this book the world was to be judged: for it contained the fullness of the everlasting Gospel, and God’s Word to man; and also the ridiculous idea that the keys of the Kingdom were delivered to this prophet, and that they should never be taken from him, in this world or the world to come. O shame, where is thy blush? But Timothy tells us that in the “last days some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared as with a hot iron. — 1 Tim. 4:1, 2.

God did truly raise up a prophet like unto Moses, from amidst the brethren;” and the command was, that they, should. hearken unto Him, for the words of the Lord was put in his mouth, and he shall speak unto them all things that God shall command him. — Deut. 18:15-19

Who was this prophet? and what was. His mission?

“And he shall send Jesus Christ which before was preached unto you: whom the heavens must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. For Moses truly said unto the father, A Prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; Him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever He shall say unto you.” — Acts 3:20-23. “Philip finding Nathaniel, and saith unto him, we have found Him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” — Jno. 1:45. So Jesus of Nazareth was the Prophet that God should raise up; and speak His words to the people. Paul says that “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son, whom He hath appointed heir of all things.” — Heb. 1:1, 2.

But in the face of all these Scriptures; yea, and the presence of God Almighty himself, this daughter claims that this prophet, of whom Moses and the prophet spake in the law, was none other than this individual having the honor of naming her: (Doc. and Cov. sec. 22.) She also affirms that this prophet was to translate the book of Mormon, which contained the fulness of the everlasting Gospel: (See. 26 D and C) for he had received the commandments from God himself. (Doc. and Cov. Sec. 18) and therefore by it the world is to be judged. (Doc. and cov. Sec. 17)

O Lord: Well hath Jeremiah the prophet, said concerning the people, “Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not; and come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, we are delivered to do all these abominations? Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold even I have seen it, saith the Lord.” — Jer. 7:9-11

Yes, robbers indeed! Robbed God of His rights and the Son of God His authority; and made the Word of God of none effect. O ye robbers, do ye not hear what the Son of God saith unto you? “He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.” — Jno. 12:48.

“For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:” — Jno. 5:22, and He “executeth judgment also, because He is the Son.” 27 ver. For “God hath ordained Him (the Son) to be the judge of the quick and dead.” — Acts 10:42. So you robbers will find out the awful fact, when you come before the tribunal of God, that your false way will do you no good; it will be laid down and you will have to stand before the great triune God, and be judged by the word of His Son. Again ye claim that the keys of the stick of Ephraim was delivered to your prophet: (Doc. and cov. Sec. 26) but Jeremiah continues to say concerning the house that is called by God’s name: “I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all of your brethren, even the whole seed of Ephraim.” — Jer. 7:15. Then repent ye seed of Ephraim, lest the Son smite you with the sword of of His mouth; for he holdeth the keys of hell and death, as well as the keys of the Kingdom.

What saith the Scripture? “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon His Kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever.” — Isa. 9:6, 8. “And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut and none shall open.” — Isa. 22:22. “These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, He that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth and no man openeth.” — Rev. 3:7. This was he of whom the angel spake: “Behold I bring you glad tidings of great joy, for unto you is born this day in the City of David a Savior which is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:10, 11. Yet in the face of all of these Scriptures this daughter which dare assume the name of the only begotten, positively asserts that it was her prophet, and that the key should never be fallen from him in this or the world to come. (Doc. and Cov- Sec. 87.)

Not being satisfied with robbing the Son of His rights to the keys in this world, but would try to have us believe that in eternity the Son would be subject to his control, and do him honor. This is a greater stride than the “Mother of Harlots” has yet taken: for as far as our knowledge goes concerning her claims, she nowhere claims that her Pope shall hold the keys in the world to come: but Timothy says that “evil men, and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.” — 2 Tim. 3:13.

Well bath John the Revelator spoken concerning babylon, that she “has become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and the cage of every unclean and hateful bird.” — Rev. 18:2.

But ye robbers will find that the Son holdeth the keys when “He riseth up and shutteth the door and ye begin to stand without and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and He shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are. Then shall ye begin to say we have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. But He shall say, I tell you I know not from whence ye are; depart from me ye workers of iniquity.” — Luke 13:25-28. You will then also find out the awful truth that the only begotten holdeth the keys of death and hell, (Rev. 1:18,) when ye are banished from the presence of God, and turned into the pit with all the nations that forsake God, where there is “weeping and gnashing of of teeth.” — Luke 13:28.

This daughter also teaches those who worship her, that it is not “written that there shall be no end to this torment;” (D. & C., Sec. 18.) but what saith the holy writ in reference to this very same thing? “Then shall He say unto them on His left hand, depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.-” Matt. 25:41. And Mark says “where their worm (memory) dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.” — Mark 9:44.

“For Tophet is ordained of old; yea, for the king it is prepared; He hath made it deep and large; the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of the Lord, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it; * * * it shall not be quenched night or day; the smoke thereof shall go up forever.” — Isa. 30:33; 34:10.

And when the blessed Son of God doth appear without sin unto salvation, you will see, (but too late to repent,) that He it is which is the faithful witness, and His eternal Word will endure forever. Although you claim that your prophet has “revised and corrected the Old and New Testaments restoring much that had been lost from the text, and removing from the text many things of a hurtful tendency, which had been added by uninspired men.” — “Voice of Warning,” page 148. You will find that John the Revelator spoke by the commandment of God when he said: “If any shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are i written in this book: and if any man shall take away from the book of the word of this prophecy God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things that are written in this book.” — Rev. 22:18, 19.

Well hath Isaiah spoken concerning this people: “this is a rebellious people, lying children; children that will not hear the law of the Lord; which say seers, see not; and to the prophets, prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smoothe things; prophesy deceits.” — Isa. 30:9, 10. And so your prophets have “daubed you with untempered mortar,” but the Almighty shall break down the wall that ye have daubed and ye shall be consumed in the midst thereof, and ye shall know that He is the Lord. — Ezek. 13:14.

O let every lover of truth shun this false way as he would the very demon himself; for her way leadeth to destruction from whence there is no returning, but there abideth one eternal night.

We pray God to let His choicest blessings rest upon His children, and may they be kept free from this soul-destroying doctrine which is greatly spreading over this country, and many are being deceived by their fair speeches.

With the love of God in our soul and the Holy Spirit resting upon us, we commit these words to God’s elect, and to all who wish truth to prevail. Grace be unto you all forevermore. Amen!

TRUE HUMILITY.

—:o:—

BY HUMILITY and the fear of the Lord, are riches and honor and life. — Prov 22:4.

Oh how much depends upon a correct understanding of this beautiful Bible promise. Indeed it includes every hope and noble ambition. So let us carefully consider the statement of the conditions upon which its full promises are to be realized and met. We must then first consider the condition or requirement of humility. We can take no advance step until we take this step of humility, and then the fear of the Lord being mixed with humility is the surety of all blessings. Let us search the Scriptures and see if this word is one taught by those that heard Him. Yes, we find St. James teaching that God “resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble,” and that we must bumble ourselves in His sight — so He can see true humility — before He will “lift us up,” and honor us with salvation gifts and graces of the Spirit. Read it in the full context of James 4:5—10. But our loving Lord knows we can take no step successfully, and without Divine help, for He says: “Without mo ye can do nothing.” — John 15:5. And so He has told us how to humble ourselves through the Gospel as taught by Peter, to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God. — 1 Peter 5:5, 6. Here we see that we are not expected to do it in our own strength and weak judgment, by ‘kneeling on beans,” or other “penance rites,” nor by “adding more good works,” “church work,” alms-giving etc., “till we feel it;” or any such thing: but by laying down weapons of rebellion, and our way of thinking and meekly placing ourselves in the hand of God, and ask Him to help ns into true humility, and trust Him to do it. For His hand, or way, is mighty, or sure and efficient. Having created us, He knows all our recourses, and love, and He will not fail to do it for us, and in the best way. The Psalmist said: “It is God who strengtheneth me, and maketh my way perfect” — pleasing to Him. Now read Phili. 2:3-9, then bring remembrance that Moses is called the meekest man, and think how God exalted him — lifted up — or used him to His glory and the good of His nation.

We, as Christ’s followers, and the children of the Living God, are expected to humble ourselves constantly, even unto the death of all self, for we are to be as He, in this world, — 1 John 4:17, not only in purity and love of God, but also in humility, which will manifest itself in meek obedience to all His written will, as fast as our mind is made to comprehend it.

Solomon said: The fear of the Lord is to hate evil. — Prov. 8:13. Also finding that this and meekness are to he the requirements to be met in order to inherit God’s pleasure to the securing of riches and honor and life etc. Then it follows that we must clearly understand that “to hate evil,” is in the positive, and therefore does not admit of limitation or qualification, but must be understood in the superlative degree: “all evil.” Now we shall see then, to hate all evil, we must have all evil priciples or root evil extracted from our natures before we can fear the Lord and meekly obey Him at all times, and in all things.

How shall we go to work to have all evil extracted? James says: “Cleanse your hands ye sinners, purify your hearts ye double minded.” — James 4:8. To cleanse our hands, is to get pardoned of God for our transgressions, or willful sins; and then by a full consecration and crucifixion of self, bring our bodies a living sacrifice to God, and thus purify our hearts. We then being conformed to His will, and not the opinions etc. of the world, — Rom 12:1, 2, shall hate all evil. Not alone that evil or sin of our neighbor, but also those which are peculiar to our old unregenerated nature, before our cleansing. And as the light dawns upon us more and more — for the light of the righteous increaseth more and more,” etc. — we shall see our mistakes and errors of yesterday; and so seeing them, they will stand to us to-day as sins, if we have anything to do with them. So we shall now see them as evil, and also hate them, which will enable us to shun them, and walk in the light of to-day. One may hate the evil of drunkenness, because of its consequences and tendencies, but at the same time be dealing in a more deplorable evil because of its slyness, and yet deem himself or herself as a temperate person. Tobacco is a slower and more sly evil, and a very powerful and destructive one, because it is more popular, and not so universally fought and condemned; while intemperance in drink is popularly condemned, and all men call it an evil, so it is spotted and condemned by the universal voice; having popular disfavor in consequence of which, it will be more generally shunned. There are men and women who cry aloud against drink, who are indulging in some other appetite or passion just as injurious, or even more so, because it is universally supported and indulged in by the masses. It is winked at by some, and upheld by others, and is a fatal evil which saps the spiritual life, and slowly, but surely undermines the life of millions of souls, and hinders the upbuilding of Christ’s kingdom, because it is universally popular, and also among those naming the name of Christ. — 2 Tim. 2:19, who are told to “depart from iniquity,” and these, too, think they are temperate; many of them going about to establish their own righteousness; lecturing on temperance, while they themselves are the picture of intemperance; girded up with the life-sapping popular corset; with banged hair — which in the old eastern country is the mark of prostitution; — ruffled, puffed, ribboned, broidered, feathered, belaced, etc., “fit to kill;” and it does kill both soul and body. And some of them fool themselves into the belief that they are God’s sanctified children while thus attired, if they only put off gold, or the most of it. Yes, they believe they “fear the Lord,” and that to them are to be verified the promises of our text.

O God help us as His chosen teachers to undeceive as many as possible, for they are surely going away from God, and out of the reach of His priceless gifts.

Lovingly your sister in Christ.

Dearly Beloved Saints: — This morning finds me still praising God for the salvation of my soul. Oh the living peace, and joy and glory that I feel in my foul from day to day. For tongue can never express nor can it be told. O that all men would seek the Lord! Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man the things winch God hath prepared for them that love Him. But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit, for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea the deep things of God. O how glorious it is to serve the Lord. My soul is as clear as heaven! Praise the Lord forever and ever. God’s people are all standing firm in this place. And we assemble together from time to time as the Lord commands. And the Lord verifies His promise “Where two or three are assembled together in my name, there am I in their midst” I do thank and praise the Lord that I was ever willing to surrender all into the hands of the Almighty for time and eternity. My friends, my time, my earthly store. I have found by giving up all, that the people that I took to be my friends have turned to be my foes. But I had rather suffer the afflictons of the children of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin; For a reason, Jesus is a friend, that sticketh closer than a brother.

There I’ll dwell with Him forever.
In the realms of glory bright;
Where no foes can enter ever,
In Johovah’s awful sight.

Your sister saved and sactified.

To all the Saints Greeting: — I feel led of the Spirit to write my testimony. I do praise the Lord for full and complete salvation, although we are alone in this place. There are none but sectarian meetings to go to and, I do not feel led to go there. I am still praying for the way to be open for the saints; our house is open at any time if there is any one led to come this way. We are holding up the truth to the people. There are some in the valley of decision, truly we are living in perilous times. When we read the Word of God and compare it to the teachings of to-day by those who profess to be teachers, we can see how men can be deceived. Dear saints how I do rejoice that my eyes have been open to the truth. I feel that all is peace within; I am searching the Scriptures to know what God has for me to do. I ask the prayers of the saints for this place, that there may be good done here. If any brother or sister feels led here, they will be welcome at our house, and we will do all we can to get the truth to the people.

From your sister saved, and sanctified and kept; pray for us.
