1st. MR. DEATH.

These death bed purgatorians have ..en worshiping around the shrines of ..ion and fancy, looking for a future ..iverance. But death like every ..tichrist, drugs his victims with hel-.. opiates of a future, salvation, ..sing them to sleep a perpetual ..ep. They say they believe the ..ole, and even claim to accept THE RIST. But when you say that Je- .. saves from all sin now, they all cry, “Great is Dianna” of purgatory, who allows us to sin daily in word, thought and deed, whose superscription is, “He that saith he liveth and sinneth not, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;” and that “No man can keep the commandments of God by any grace received in this life.’ — Extracts from the heathen creed.

O the blindness of this idolatrous schism! Religious professors when held up before the mirror of divine truth are exposed, and have no cloak; for salvation is for this life: “That he would grant unto us, that we, being delivered out of the hand of our enemies, might serve him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.” — Luke 1:74, 75. Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.” — Titus 2:12. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.” — 1 John. 4:17. There has been such a close affinity between the devil and mother, “You cannot live without sin,” or sinner- ship religion, since they first met in the garden of Eden, that we believe the apostate religions resemble them so much, they certainly are their posterity; for it is a positive fact, that all their creeds sanction sin, either directly or indirectly, while God’s word teach that we must be perfect, sanctified, and holy, in this life. “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.” — Heb. 12:14. He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still; and he that is holy, let him be holy still.” — Rev. 22:11. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body, be preserved blameless unto the coming of Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.” — 1 Thess. 5:23, 24. What folly to say we cannot live without sin (death), or in other words, that a large dose of arsenic daily would be essential to natural life, as sin would be to the spiritual life. “He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.” — 1 John 3:8-10; 5:8. “Nevertheless, if thou warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he is warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul.” — Eze. 3:21. Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.” — John 8:34. We must be a saint (a holy one) or a sinner. “For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. But now being made free from sin, and become, servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.” — Romans 6:20, 22. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.” — Matt. 7:18. Will you trust death as your savior?

2d. IGNORANCE

is one of the soul destroying antichrists of to day, especially the Zinzen dorfites speculate on their “hope so” salvation, and when you press them for a reason of their hope they say, I was converted twenty years ago; I belong to church, [the sect] etc., etc. When you ask them if they are saved from all sin, they say, “No; there is no one lives without sin.” Can any one unholy enter heaven? They answer, No. And when they are asked how they expect to get to heaven without being holy, they say, But we were sanctified the very moment we were converted. When you interrogate them about carnality, or depravity, the most of them say they expect to carry it to the grave; they trusting the God of ignorance to dispose of it in some way. What base ignorance! Others even deny depravity to exist at all.

Now let us look at this dumpish antichrist of the Zinzendorfites in the light of the word. Their principal creed is that the disciples were not converted before the day of Pentecost, and that the little bit of grace they got twenty, thirty or forty years ago, is all any one can have.

The disciples were converted, regenerated, or forgiven before Pentecost. But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house. — Matt. 9:6. She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. — Jno. 8:11. Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. — Jno. 5:14. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding, in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but lather rejoice because your names are written in heaven. — Luke 10:19, 20. And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven. — Luke 7:48. Some of them quote Luke 22: 32 to prove the disciples were not converted, and to justify themselves in their lives of sin.

Jesus testifying on the same occasion said, Ye are clean, but not all (Jno. 13:10.), refering to Judas. But these blind holiness fighters think their conversion forty years ago atones for the sins they are committing now. Jesus did not send out sinners to preach the gospel. Mark 3:14:15. They were regenerated. Matt. 19:28. When the thread-bare theory of Zinzendorfism is exposed, they try to console themselves by saying, “The Lord never does anything by halves.” The Lord does not half do anything, but in our salvation he does two whole works of grace. First, he takes away the sins we have accumulated. Second, he cleanses out the sin we inherited.

There are many scriptures that set forth the two works of grace. They are typified in this: And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking. After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up; and he was restored and saw every man clearly. — Mark 8:24, 25. And in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that ye might have a second benefit [margin, grace]. — 2 Cor. 1:15.

If there was no other scripture setting forth the second work of grace, I think this one would be enough to convince any reasonable person: Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. — Jno. 14:2. “If any man be in Christ he is a new creature.” It is the new creatures that bear fruit, them he purgeth, — RATHAIRO — cleanses, that they may bring forth more fruit. Here, as well as in many other places in the word, purge refers to the taking away of depravity: Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. — Ps. 51:7. And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged. — Isa. 6:7. And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness. — Mal. 3:3. Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened: For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us. — 1 Cor. 5:7. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and meet for the Master’s use, and prepared unto every good work. — 2 Tim. 2:21. Sins are forgiven, but depravity is purged, or-cleansed. The Holy Ghost is the sanctifier: That I should be the minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost. — Rom. 15:16. It was what the disciples received on the day of Pentecost, and it produced a pure heart: And God which knoweth the hearts, bore them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; and put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. — Acts 15:8, 9. The following scriptures show the Spirit sanctifies: 2 Thes. 2:13; 1 Pet. 1:2, 22; Tit. 3:5, 6; Eph. 4:23, 24; Rom. 12:2;. Col. 3:10. All these show a second work of grace, and that sanctification is subsequent to regeneration. Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. — Rom. 5:1, 2.

The Zinzendorf jesus is a failure, a fraud; yet we have all sympathy and charity for those who are under this antichrist. My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. — Hosea 4:6. Teaching that the Holy Ghost was only for the apostles. Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. — Acts 2:28, 29.

3d. GROWTH.

Those growth from sin to grace believers think they rest quite secure behind their delusion; they are like the silly ostrich, that wearied in a chase covers its head in the sand and thinks because it cannot see none else can. A man might as well try to grow the weeds out of his garden by setting out a few plants in it, as to expect spiritual growth to take out the old man, of the adamic nature. Neither addition nor multiplication will change the nature of depravity, but subtract- ton is necessary. But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. — 1 Jno. 1:7. And if we are cleansed from ALL sin we have a clean heart: a pure heart needs no cleansing. I have never heard of any one growing into the grace of justification, but I have heard of people trying for thirty and forty years to grow into sanctification; but a close investigation proved that they were farther from Canaan than when they started.

A pure heart is received by faith. And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. — Acts 15:9. Jesus told Paul to preach “forgiveness of sins, and the inheritance among, them that are sanctified by faith,” not growth. — Acts 26:18. Those growth ites say, we cannot fall nor grow if we are sanctified; and, if the depravity is taken out of our hearts, we cannot be tempted. Thus when they cannot find safety any longer in their jesus (growth) they try to hide behind some flaw in holiness. Thank God! there is no flaw in holiness; it is an atribute of God; it is a part of God himself. Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises; that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. — 2 Pet. 1:4. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. — 2 Cor. 5:21. And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him. — Col. 3:10.

It is possible to fall. Adam fell when he was holy. We can grow. Purity is not maturity. A healthy plant will grow much faster than a dwarf. It is then that we abound, and we are “neither barren nor unfruitful.” 2 Pet. 1:8. We can and will be tempted. It is them that are sanctified that the devil offers the largest premium for; but Jesus was tempted, and he was holy. O ye growth ites, where is your jesus? “Thou art wretched and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.”

Our Jesus says, I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eye salve that thou mayest see. — Rev. 3:18. Your weak, mean jesus is but a devil with a theological cloak on.

4th. IMPUTATION

has many worshipers, as this is about the cheapest religion in the devil’s market; and he has several brands: the Universalists, Plymouthites, and some of the covenistic stamp. Those imputarians know nothing of an imparted Christ; they trust in delusive fiction to wash away their sin. And they are ever praying, yet never know they are clean. This imaginary savior is but antichrist, who has been set upon the throne of imputation to deceive souls and drag them blindfolded to hell.

5th. EMOTIONS

is the pit in which the devil ensnares many souls. In fact the emotionists are legions, and the blessing ites are many. The class we refer to pay but little attention to the state or condition of salvation, but are constantly talking about a blessing they received so many years ago, but do not refer to their dally life of sinning, for they say, no one can live without sin. God has

At this early date, June 10th, people are already coming in from various states, ready for the C. M. Fourteen persons have arrived from Nebraska. We expect a soul saving time and victory in the name of Jesus.

Several have written to us regarding Sunday Schools. There should be one in every community if carried on in the order of the Lord. Some one chosen of the Lord should superintend the same and see that things are properly carried on, and holy teachers in charge of the classes, and the children as well as older ones properly instructed in the word of God. Special pains should be taken to lead them to Jesus and learn to love his word and have a relish for it. Prizes and such like, as would have a tendency to detract from the pure heavenly motive, should be avoided. Let there be classes suitable to the age and ability of the children. It is a good thing to have regular childrens’ meetings often, but where there are children of all ages, unless a very competent teacher is in charge, all are not interested. At such times a classified school is better.

SENDING HANDKERCHIEFS.

A sister writes, what is to be done with the handkerchief, whether it is to be worn on the afflicted parts, etc?

We answer that we certainly believe that the actual power of God does pervade the fabric when he directs his servants to lay on hands and anoint with oil, and send to the afflicted. But the handkerchief need not be worn, only lain for a short time upon the afflicted part of the body. It takes no longer for the divine virtue to flow from the handkerchief into the body than for his power to enter and heal the sick through the hands of those who have the healing gift. The testimony in many cases has been when such medium of healing has been laid upon the body of the afflicted, they felt the power of God go through the body and witnessing to the healing. This conscious experience may not always be to the same extent, but if faith is firmly exercised the work will be done all the same.

By reading Acts 29:11, 12, you will learn that healing by this medium is classed as “special miracles.” It is a very sacred thing, even the conveying of the divine virtue and power through the mail. It being a special miracle for God to heal and cast out devils in this way, it should be confined to special cases. First, it should only be resorted to when the afflicted reside where no elder of the church of God or member having the gift of healing can be called according to James. And, moreover, the party cannot come to the place of the assemby of the saints. To send to some elder in the distance for a handkerchief when God has true elders and gifts of healing in your own community, or not far distant, would be virtually ignoring those elders and showing a respect of persons, which is not pleasing to God. Many are foolish enough to stagger in their faith because the party laying on hands is not so far advanced in years and experience as some one else. Just as if the man was to do the work! Nay, who is Paul? “Less than the least.” And who is Appollas? Only “ministers by whom ye believed, but God gave the increase.” “The Lord will raise him up.” It is true “the prayer of faith” must be offered, but the smallest child of God can pray the prayer of faith.

Second, the person wishing to send for a handkerchief should pray over it and be sure the Lord leads; and be sure you have faith in God to receive the healing, without which the faith of others cannot heal you. And let such as receive such calls take it to God in prayer; and if the Spirit leads you to respond, take the handkerchief and anoint it with oil as you would the sick, then lay hands upon it as you would upon the body of the afflicted, and let the prayer of faith go up to God and the work will be done. Amen.

SANCTIFICATION.

IT has become a fact that if a person professes to enjoy the blessing of sanctification in these latter times it is considered the height of fanaticism. This is well pleasing to Satan, the enemy of our souls, as he knows that no person can see Christ’s face in peace unless sanctified in heart. What is sanctification? When applied to the Sabbath it is a day set apart by the Lord for a sacred and holy purpose. Why should it be thought incredible that God should call out his people from the world, and set them apart by his Spirit for a holy use? “Well,” says one, “the heart is corrupt, and this corruption clings to them so. As St. Paul said, when he would do good evil was present, and lad so much more power over him than the good, that the things that he would not do, these he did, bringing him captive to the will of Satan. Again, we are instructed that there is none good, no not one: that he that saith he has no sin, deceiveth himself and the truth is not in him.” Well then, take these texts separately and we are in a deplorable condition. We read again that blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God. Then there is a way to become pure in heart. “If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive our sins.” Then has our heart become pure because our sins are all forgiven? Let us read on: “And to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.’’ Then are we not pure in heart after we are thus cleansed? But suppose we say we have not sinned before being saved; we make him a liar and his word is not in us. Then after we are thus cleansed what will we say to glorify God? We will testify to the cleansing work wrought by faith in the blood of the Lamb; that though our sins were as scarlet, they have become white as wool. There is much said about overcoming this sin and that, but we overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. But suppose we are given faith to believe we are cleansed and refuse to testify to it; then the fault of hiding our light under a bushel will be sin, and we are again in darkness. With the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Abraham believed God, and it was accounted for righteousness. As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up, that whosoever looketh on him in faith may be cleansed from all impurity. Then they can exclaim: “There is therefore now no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit. What shall be the evidence of the cleansing? In the place of a tendency to envy, jealousy and hatred, then is love, joy and peace. Love to God and your neighbor. No strife for vain glory, for this world has passed away and all things have become new. The treasure is in heaven, where is the object of our love. The law of God is now written in the heart. No cause for stumbling as long as we follow the Spirit. Perfect love casteth out all fear which hath torment. No fear now only of offending the object of our love, causing great carefulness, but having perfect confidence in our leader we have no fears of stumbling. Then why should we not say, “I consecrated all to him, and he has sanctified my soul. Glory to his excellent name! I am saved from my sins, and am going on from grace to glory.” Many think it takes a life struggle to get sanctified. But we are not prepared to grow in grace and knowledge of the truth without the Holy Spirit first to lead us into truth. Knowledge puffeth up; but charity edifieth. If any man lack wisdom let him ask of God, who giveth liberally and upbraideth not. Sanctification is perfect love to God and man, the fulfilling of the law, perfect obedience to our leader, our will being swallowed in the will of God.

A GENERAL WESTERN CAMP MEETING.

The Lord willing there will be a general assembly and camp meeting of the saints of the Most High at Robinson, Brown Co., Kan., thirty- four miles west of St. Joseph, and nine miles east of Hiawatha, on the St. Joseph & Grand Island R. R. Beginning Sept. 15th, and continuing as long as the Lord wills. We have engaged Mr. Crounce’s grove for the occasion, which is located one half mile south of Robinson. We have written to Bro. Warner and Co. Bro. Smith and Co. expect to be here. And Bro. M. M. Stover expects to attend with his tabernacle. Other workers have written, they expect to attend, the Lord willing. All are invited to attend. Those who have tents, bring them; those having none, bring bedding; and those who cannot bring anything will be provided for on the camp ground as far as possible. NORWOOD CAMP MEETING.

Camp meeting will commence July 21, 1892, if the Lord wills, at the Termenter school-house, five miles east of Norwood, Mo., and six miles west of Mt. Grove. The saints have procured a piece of land at that place for a permanent camp ground. It is a beautiful place for camp meeting. Those coming from the east will get off at Mt. Grove, and those coming from the west, at Norwood. There will be arrangements made for conveyance free of charge. Norwood and Mt. Grove are both on the Kansas City, Fort Scott and Memphis R. R’s. Brother Bolds and Co. are expected. We shall be glad to hear from all workers who feel led to attend.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

Veedersburgh, Ind., June 7, 1892.

Dear Saints: This morning finds me saved and sanctified, and healed of bodily disease of which I suffered for many years, but for nearly twelve years I have not had a rheumatic pain. I also was mashed up eleven years ago by a fallen barn, and my wife not then in the faith had a doctor, and he held counsel with another, and they said I must die inside of three hours. But God healed me and stoped the blood, and for almost ten years I have proclaimed the truth out side all sects in the church of God. I preach the word, justified by faith and a second work of grace, or sanctified by faith, and healing by faith and prayer. I practice it as did the apostles. I go as the commission is given me in the word, or to the twelve and seventy; for we have no other way to measure only by the word of the Lord. This is a little of my experience for the good of some one, and for God’s glory. I am in the work constantly. Eight were saved week before last, and were baptized. I am kept by power divine. Pray for me and the congregations of God where I go.

Dear Brethren: We praise the Lord to day for a glorious salvation and victory in our souls, and are glad to report that the church at this place is in good condition. We are having glorious meetings and the work of God is moving on. We are building a house of worship at this place for the Lord this summer. The weather has been unfavorable thus far for the work to progress, but Father knows what is best for his children, and we are subject to his providence with all patience; but we are expecting more favorable weather soon, and better roads. But the work is still going on in our hearts and in our prayers, and by faith we see the house complete for the Lord, in whose name we labor; knowing that except the Lord build the house they labor in vain that build it; and except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. Any one feeling directed to help us in this work here will please send their offerings to Bro. Thomas Smith, Payne, O., and it will be gladly and thankfully received. We expect, the Lord willing, to have an assembly meeting here as soon as the house is ready. Bro. A. J. Kilpatrick has been absent from home for some time laboring in the South in company with Bro. J. N. Howard. Bro. and Sister Worden are at home at present; also Bro. Lewis Basore is making his home with the church at this place at present. Bro’s Worden and Basore are laboring with us at carpentering, and are waiting to labor on the house for the Lord, being among the number that have consecrated their service to the Lord. Let the saints everywhere pray for us and the work here.

Sheffield, Mo., June 7, 1892.

To all the Dear Saints Everywhere: May the love of God be shed abroad in your hearts by the Holy Ghost. Amen. In our last report we had just arrived at Atlanta, Kan. Our hearts were made so sad to see God’s work in such a languishing condition, after laboring so hard and faithful at that place during the Bangor camp meeting last year. We also requested special prayer to go up from the camp of the saints in behalf of the work at Atlanta, and we do know God did wonderfully answer prayer. But on returning many said, “Things are in a worse condition than they were a year before.’’ The cause was easily discovered, and it was this: many refused to obey the instructions given by the word of God, consequently we became a savor of death unto death. But as Joshua said, “all that have obeyed the voice of the Lord are alive this day.” We found it so. At the beginning of the meeting this question kept revolving in our minds: “Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?” And the answer was, “It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power, but ye shall receive power after the Holy Ghost is come upon you.” And it was so: every one that received the Holy Ghost got the power. Glory to God! Some have been powerfully sifted of the devil, and we left them quite weak; but they have our earnest prayers that God may bring them off more than conquerors through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever. Meeting closed June 1st, with a precious ordinance service, and Jesus verified his promise: “If ye know these things happy are ye if ye do them.” On the following eve we took train for Kansas City, Mo. and have been stopping with Brother and Sis ter Pendergrass of Sheffield, Mo. since. Have held three services, and a number of lands were raised for prayers. We start, the Lord willing, this evening for Mich., and will hold a few days’ service at Glenn, Mich. before the camp meeting.

June 9th. We had a precious little ordinance service with Brother and Sister Pednergrass just before taking train. The melting power of God was upon all. Truly it was the crowning blessing of the short visit. The Lord gave us a safe journey with quiet waters on the Lake, for which we give much thanks to the dear Lord, and also to the saints who remembered us at a throne of grace. Bro. Fry was at South Haven in good time with conveyance, and took the company, except myself, to the Glenn meeting, which will continue over Sunday. I will, the Lord willing, assist in the work on the new camp ground.

Dear Trumpet Reapers: The Lord bless you all. We are saved and have victory in our souls. We just closed a three days’ meeting in the hall at Willshire, Ohio. Several folks came from Decatur, Ind. to attend the meeting; two of them were saved during the meeting. We had a glorious ordinance meeting Lord’s day evening. Forty-two took part in the ordinance meeting, and ten were baptized. The Lord is wonderfully working on the hearts of the people at this place. Quite a number have been saved within the past two months. Almost every prayer meeting some one justified or sanctified. May the dear Lord help all the brethren to present the altar at your prayer meetings. We found when we gave the invitation, souls were willing to get saved.

Mahaska, Kan., June 6, 1892.

Dear. Saints of God: Grace and peace be multiplied unto you. We came to this place four weeks ago, but on account of continued rain were unable to do much in the way of holding meetings for the first two weeks. After the weather became settled people were so busy planting their crops that it was impossible to get any save a few saints to attend meetings during the week. We were obliged to hold services in private houses, the saints having been shut out of the school-house. Only a few attended the meetings, but the Lord was with us in power, enabling us to rightly divide the word of truth. Two dear souls who had backslidden came to the Lord and were restored; and another who had been deceived by the One work heresy confessed his error, and covenanted to get free entirely. One dear soul also who had never heard the evening light came to Jesus forsaking the Advent faith, and was gloriously saved by the washing of regeneration, and the renewing of the Holy Ghost. Praise the Lord!

We went to the water yesterday, where three dear souls followed Jesus in the precious ordinance of baptism. In the evening we met at Bro. Philips, where we followed our blessed Master’s example in washing the saints’ feet, and commemorated his death in partaking of the bread and wine. Oh, how the Lord blessed our souls in obeying these precious commands! We had to rebuke a pernicious spirit who held to the one work theory and still tried to assemble in fellowship with the saints. Bro. Philips has consecrated all to the Lord and expects, the Lord willing, to purchase a tabernacle, and take a team, and travel in company with us in the work of saving souls.

We feel led to visit parts of Ind., and wish to visit as many of the churches as we can reach while on the way there. We would like to hear from any of the saints in northern Mo., southern Iowa, and Ill.

Dear Saints: l am glad that I can report through the Trumpet that I am saved to the uttermost, sanctified by a second work of grace and kept by the mighty power of God, Brother and Sister Howard felt that God had called them to labor in his vineyard, and being led of the Lord to go to Saegertown, Pa., they obeyed the call, and found the way open for a meeting. They wrote for me to come and help in the work, which I did in the name of the Lord, We found the people starving for the pure gospel. Many came out to hear the pure gospel. The people believed and acknowledged that it was the truth, and confessed that the gospel had never been preached there before. I was in that place for two weeks, when my family wrote for me to come home. There is a grand opening. Any one feeling led to go and help Brother Howard, address him at Saegertown, Pa.

I am terribly afflicted with salt- rheum and have often asked to be healed; and when I went out in the work it seemed to get better, and as soon as I would come home, it was worse than ever. Now I intend leaving home, husband and children and give all my time to him that doeth all things well. My family are willing that I should go, and whenever God sees fit to send me, then I will go. I want all the dear saints to pray for God to heal me of this affliction.

Dear Brethren: The book on “Divine Healing” received, and I must say it is a grand sermon to both saints and sinners. The testimonies are wonderful, which we read with tears flowing down our cheeks. Our little seven year old boy was lying sick with a fever, and when we had family worship, I asked him if we should ask the Lord to heal him, to which he consented and promised to believe with us. So we asked God to heal him, and as soon as we were done praying he was better, and got up and dressed himself. Praise the Lord!

Dear Saints and Trumpet Readers: I have been impressed for some time to write my testimony, and this morning I feel it will be to the glory of God to tell what God has done for me, even this week. During the week I was very sick; indeed, at one time I thought I would die. On Thursday evening in the prayer meeting, the Lord led me to have hands laid on, and praise his holy name! we obeyed Jas. 5:14, 15, and immediately I felt the mighty healing power of God through my body, and I rejoiced that I was healed. Oh, glory to God for such a Saviour that we have! Who healeth all our diseases and beareth all our infirmities, and is a present help in every time of need, and his word is sure. His yoke is easy, his burden is light, his commandments, not grievous. His promises are, “If ye abide in me, and my words abide you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” — Jno. 15:7. All God requires of us is to keep ourselves unspotted from the world: that means to be dead to the conformity of the world, for we are not of the world. Jesus says he has chosen us out of the world. Therefore, we should be dead indeed to the world. Our life will then be hid away with Christ in God, and we will be walking and living in newness of life, and glorifying God in our bodies and spirits which are his. My all is on the altar. I am saved and sanctified by a second work of grace, to do all the will of God, living up to all the light that God gives me. You have my prayers. Pray for me.

Dear Saints: About thirty-four years ago in answer to prayer and repentance the Lord pardoned my sins and made me happy in his love. I soon became convicted that there was a deeper work of grace for me, but it was many years before I heard any preaching on that line. Four years ago I was taken sick, and lay in bed over two years, taking medicines to no avail. I could not sit or stand. One day as I was reading the last chapter of Mark, I believed that God would heal me. One of the saints came and prayed for me and laid on hands, and in three weeks I could be up and walk.

Last Dec. I met with an accident, and the doctor said I must die. After many days’ suffering, the saints took my case to the Lord and laid on hands in the name of the Lord; and while they were singing, the divine blessing came and I arose to my feet praising God for his healing power. To him be all praise!

Dear Trumpet Readers: When I was a boy, and unconverted, I joined the U. B. sect; and for seventeen years I remained a member unregenerated, though often convicted of the Spirit. At the end of this time I became strongly convicted and in earnest about my soul’s salvation, sought and found pardon for my sins. Serving God honestly, and the best I knew how, he showed me the evils of sectism. In this light I walked for seven years, thinking it right to help all the sects along, or that they be united in their efforts to do good, being a nonsectarian. Last June God sent some of his messengers here with the true message of God. Hearing the doctrine of sanctification, and light on the church I took Christ as my-counsellor, through whom I am clean escaped from babylon.

OBITUARIES.

Died, April 28, 1892, at Chapmanville, Pa., Sister Mary Morse, wife of Benjamin G. Morse. She leaves a husband and four children to mourn their loss, which is her eternal gain. She was a kind, loving wife and mother. Her husband was in Ohio and was not permitted to be by her side until she had fallen asleep in Jesus. Bro. Morse has Jesus to lean upon in this sad bereavement. Let us not forget them in our prayers.

Dropped dead, at his home in La Fayette Tp., Mich., Ebeneezer H. Burgin; at the age of 71 years, 3 months and 4 days. Deceased was Dorn at Lebanon, New Hampshire, Jan. 10th 1821. At the age of 19 he married Miss Sophrona Kennesson of West Phalia, Orange Co., Vt. And in 1856 moved to Gratiot Co., and was one of the early settlers, and endured many hardships and privations of an early pioneer life. May God comfort and sustain dear Sister Burgin in this sad bereavement; also the four daughters, and many grand children.

As it has pleased our heavenly Father to call from our midst Sister Nannie S. Thompson, wife of D. W. Thompson, we feel it our duty to cheerfully submit to this dispensation of his providence, knowing that “All things work together for good to them that love the Lord.” And as we love him, and as she loved him even unto the end of her life, we feel that it is for our good and his glory, and we will bless his holy name forever.

Sister Nannie professed faith in Christ some years ago, and last Sept. was sanctified through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. She lived up to her profession, giving all the glory to this great salvation, to Jesus who died to purchase it for her, and to Almighty God, who so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Sister Nannie was a bright light in God’s church here. We all feel the loss, but our loss is her eternal gain. She was born Jan. 22, 1863, and died May 31, 1892, leaving a husband and five little girls. She was a loving, kind and affectionate wife and mother, and a true saint of the living God. The bereaved ones have our heart felt sympathy, with our prayers, that they may all give their hearts and lives to Christ, and be united in the climes of bliss and glory.

“WOE unto the wicked; it shall be ill with him, for the reward of his hands shall be given him. — Isa. 3:11.

This injunction and promise holds good in the case of each transgression, whether spiritual or temporal. Notice Exodus 20:5, where God says, “He will visit the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate him, i. e., those who keep not his commandments. How many unfortunate individuals do we find all over the land, who are afflicted with either this or that disease, because their parents have injudiciously exposed themselves to the approaches of the ills to which all flesh is heir. Then disease can be, and is transmitted to posterity just the same as physical, mental, and moral endowments. “Man is fearfully and wonderfully made.” Having strength to control all the beasts of the field, he yet has an organism so delicate and sensitive, that a slight change in the atmosphere affects him very perceptibly. “Those who cast their bread upon the waters, find that after many days it returns to them. Eccl. 11:1. We then while accountable for the deeds done in the body, are by no means the only sufferers. Generations yet unborn will rise up to bless, or curse us according as we have obeyed the laws of nature, and of nature’s god. A physician was once called in to visit a patient, and finding him suffering from a hereditary disease, said, “Had a doctor been called in one hundred years ago, you could have been cured,” or words to that effect. How many people, to day, suffer untold miseries because of this unchangeable law of God. Yet it is as just and as perfect as God himself could make it. Mankind should remember that the comfort, not only of themselves, but of posterity depends upon their obeying God’s laws of health, written on the tables of all flesh. What difference can there be in committing suicide to day, and in virtually doing the same, to take effect after you have passed away? This is a question of vast importance to the human family; vast in its application, monstrous in its evidences of to day. Many a poor helpless invalid looks and longs for death to end the life this side of the grave: souls unprepared, unfitted to serve God mentally or physically; all in fulfillment of the word of God. Allow poisons to become a part of your diet and your children, and children’s children will have an appetite for the same. Expose your bodies to the mercies of wind and weather and you lay the foundations of consumption and kindred aliments for yourself and others yet unborn. Do you think this cruel? As a man sows he shall reap. Sow the wind; you reap the whirlwind. Like seeds sown in good ground; ground broken up, prepared by indiscretions, some brings forth thirty, some sixty, and some an hundred fold. Guard your bodies from these enemies that beset them. Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. — Prov. 1:17. The watchmen who stand on the walls of Zion have a duty along this line, and along the whole line of health. They should inform themselves in respect to God’s health laws. Representives of the Great Physician, they should be able to tell Jacob his transgressions, as well as Israel his sins. When people are made whole, be able to tell them (describing their sin) to go and sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon them. Remembering that God is merciful and long suffering, not willing that any should perish. Prove all things. There are millions of living (existing rather) witnesses to these truths, and you will not need to search far to find the required two or three sufficient to establish every word. Remember posterity and yourself when tempted to commit any act of indiscretion. Ex. 20:5. Should God in his mercy remove the effects of sin against the laws, that govern health, remember that when he does it he demands obedience in future to his laws, and should they be violated we have the promise of a worse thing (John 5:14.), because faithful is he that called you. (1 Thess. 5:24.) Again search the laws written on the tables of your flesh, obey them; and thy days shall be long in the land the Lord your God giveth you. Amen.

given his children spiritual discernment. Since we hold up the whole word these emotions die, and their rasping, grating, cracked bell music ends. Praise God for the Jesus whom Paul preached! He is a real person that comes and abides, and he has brought his Father and the Holy Ghost the Comforter, and all abide richly in our hearts. Feelings and emotions save no one. It is Christ Jesus the Son of God.

6th. MILLENNIUM

is somewhere beyond purgatory. Many thousand are looking for a Savior. They are not willing to forsake all to follow Jesus in this world, but like the Jews they think there will come a jesus that will set up an earthly kingdom, and they will receive an honored position, and then they will accept salvation without any cross. O how pleasing this is to the worldling; it is the god of his heart; he at once is intoxicated with the hell redemption theory. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: that they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. — 2 Thes. 2:11, 12. When Christ comes there will be no offer of salvation. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. — Matt. 25:10. When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: and before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: and he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. — Matt. 25:31-33. And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah; and the Lord my God shall come, and all the saints with thee. — Zech. 14:5. For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. — Matt. 16:27. And Enoch also the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousand of his saints, to execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. — Jude 14, 15. Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. — Rev. 1:7. And behold I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. — Rev. 22:12. For, behold, the Lord cometh forth out of his place, and will come down, and tread upon the high places of the earth. And the mountains shall be molten under him, and the valleys shall be cleft, as wax before the fire, and as the waters that are poured down a steep place. — Micah 1:3, 4.

Sinner, where is your hope of salvation when Jesus comes? “Now is the day of salvation.” O ye that look for salvation from the hills of sectism, your jesus will not save you. Therefore thus saith th Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste. Judgment also will

I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place. And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through? then ye shall be trodden down by it. — Isa. 28:16-18. Brethren, let us gird our loins with truth, and go forth to the battle of the great God. It will take much holy drilling down at the foot of the cross to defeat these antichrist deceivers that are stalking abroad in the land, as the six I have mentioned are but a few of the false christs that are held up to the people to day by the antichrist religions.

A FULL SALVATION

There are just two classes of people in the world; viz., saints and sinners; or in other words, the children of God and the children of the devil. They who commit sin are of the devil. — 1 Jno. 3:8. And in the next verse we read that “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin.” Then when you hear a person contending for sin, you may rest assured that that person is a sinner every time, and by turning to 1 Jno. 2:8, you can find which side of the line he is on.

When our foreparents were in the garden of Eden, they were holy; were on a plane with God. But when they sinned they fell from their holy state, and begat children in their own likeness instead of in the likeness of God (Gen. 5: 3.), and thus sin passed upon all men. This evil inherited nature is what makes the child sin as soon as old enough to know right from wrong, and be responsible for the same. The Psalmist says: “Behold I was shapen in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.”

In Matt. 1:21, we read that Jesus came to save his people FROM [not in] their sins. And all are invited to come unto him and be saved. Matt. 11:28-30; Jno. 3:16.

No sinner 6an enter heaven, for it is a holy place, and “without holiness no man shall see the Lord.” Jesus commands all men everywhere to repent, and says, “Except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” — Jno. 3:3. This is a spiritual birth, having, pardon of all sins committed through repentance according to 1 Jno. 1:9. The sinner having offered himself dead in trespasses and sins, is now made alive in Christ, and is ready to make the offering of a “living sacrifice” according to Rom. 12:1, 2, and enter the standing grace. Rom. 5:2. The first gives access to the second. The second is sanctification, it is a cleansing, a purging process, and destroys the seed of sin, that evil nature which Satan planted in the heart; and the word says, “Every plant which my heavenly Father hath not planted shall be rooted up.” This sinful nature is one of those plants which the sanctifying grace roots up and purges out. Yea, he will “cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” — 1 Jno. 1:9.

We do not claim to reach a point of experience where it is an imposibility for us to sin, or fall from grace. But we do say that a person cannot sin and remain a child of God. A converted or a justified life is a sinless life, because God does not justify any one in committing sin.

After being pardoned, the command is, “Go on unto perfection; for this is the will of God even your sanctification.” — 1 Thess. 4:3. Christ says, “Be ye holy for I am holy.” “Be ye therefore perfect even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” — Matt. 5:48. And “serve him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.” — Luke 1:75. For “without holiness no man shall see the Lord.” “And I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Shame on any one professing to be a Christain, and in the face of all these scriptures contending for sin!

Jesus lived a sinless life, and his word says, “as he is so are we in this world.” And he also says, “he that believeth on me, the works that I do, shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do.” The true children of God believe his word and are not afraid to trust him. They lay hands on the sick, and they are healed; they cast out devils in the name of Jesus; and do many wonderful works in his name. Get in harmony with God and it will be an easy matter to obey his commands, and follow in his footsteps, where you can learn of him.

MY EXPERIENCE.

DeAr Saints and Trumpet Readers: I feel led to write my experience to the Trumpet, a sketch at least. And as I have little or no talent in the direction of writing, I trust you will bear with me. I was born in southwest Iowa, Taylor Co. Lived there or near there until I was twenty-seven years old. My mother died when I was two years old, and my father died when I was about twelve; and as my father made no profession of salvation, I was raised without prayer; and never knew what prayer was in my home. It pains my heart to say this, but such was the case. After my father died I had brothers and sisters, and many kind friends who were ready and willing to see to my temporal wants. But none could point me to the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world. So I grew up ignorant of salvation; the older I got, the harder hearted I became, and naturally of course drifted into wickedness, such as swearing, drinking, etc.

The spring I was twenty-seven years old I went out on the western coast, and there found less Christianity than where I was raised. So I went from bad to worse, until pen cannot describe the depth of degradation that the devil got me into; for I was led captive by the devil at his own will. I went on in this state for about five years, and had not been to meeting of any kind for years; then I began to realize my condition. Surely “the horrors of hell compassed me about” in this awful hour, or time of darkness and conviction. Being ignorant of God and his word, the devil says, “You have sinned away the day of grace.” What an awful condition for any one to be in! And I surely did feel the weight of being lost as much so as if God had stood before me and pronounced the awful sentence, “You are lost, lost through all eternity”

For six months I went on in this state of mind, mourning myself as lost, being ignorant of God and his word, not knowing that it was the goodness of God that was leading me to repentance. And as I think over my past experience and also knowing the weight of being lost, then to think of the countless millions that must stand before God and have the awful sentence pronounced upon them, “Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire,” where mercy can never reach them; I cry unto him, “Make me more efficient in the work of the Lord.”

Though the devil had made me believe there were no hope for me, yet the first meeting that I attended after I was so convicted, I was convinced by God’s word that there was salvation for me. Isa. 1:18, — “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord; though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” Well, as I was in a good condition to reason with him and give heed to his word, where he says, “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return unto the Lord and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon;” I just obeyed God, and he verified his promises to me. I was first saved in Alameda, Cal. by a miracle of God’s grace, outside of all creeds or organizations, and afterwards for the lack of proper teaching was made to believe that I must join something else and have a home in order to work more successfully for the Lord; and having more zeal than knowlege, I was led captive in Babylon known as the Salvation Army. The fact was it proved to be a very disagreeable stepmother home, of which I got very tired. “O Lord our God, other lord’s beside thee have had dominion over us, but by thee only will we make mention of thy name.”

About three years ago when Bro’s Kilpatrick and Speck were in Neb. preaching, I understood by the Holy Ghost that my mother was still living, “Jeruslam which is above, which is the mother of us all.” — Gal. 4:26. So I rejected all other lords, and obeyed the God of heaven, and he brought me back into my own land, where I found good pasture (Eze.34:13, 14.), and since the Lord has fully delivered me out of all confusion. He has called me to work in his vineyard for the salvation of souls; although ignorant and unlearned, I am going forth in the name of the Lord to prophesy according to the proportion of faith that God has given me. Though we cannot preach much, we will trust God for an abundance of grace to enable us to live what we preach. I ask the prayers of all God’s saints.
