The Garden.

_____

While Nature was sinking in stillness to rest,
The last beams of daylight shone dim in the west;
O’er fields by the moonlight, my wandering feet
Then led me to muse in some lonely retreat.

While passing a garden I paused then to hear
A voice faint and plaintive from one that was there:
The voice of the sufferer affected my heart,
In agony pleading the poor sinner’s part.

I listened a moment then turned me to see
What Man of Compassion this Stranger could be.
I saw Him low kneeling upon the cold ground,
Alone on a spot in the garden he found.

His mantle was wet by the dews of the night;
His locks by pale moon-beams were glistening and bright;
His eyes, bright as diamonds, to heaven were raised,
While angels in wonder stood round him amazed.

So deep were his sorrows, so fervent his prayers,
That down o’er his bosom rolled sweat blood and tears,
I wept to behold him; I asked Him his name.
He answered: “’Tis Jesus, from heaven I came.”

I am thy Redeemer, for thee I must die!
The cup is most bitter, but cannot pass by!
Thy sins like a mountain, were laid upon me,
And all this deep anguish I suffer for thee.

I trembled with horror, and loudly did cry,
“Lord, save a poor sinner, oh save, or I die!”
He smiled when he saw me, and said to me, “Live,
Thy sins, which are many, I freely forgive.”

How sweet was the moment! He bade me rejoice!
His smile, O how pleasant! how cheering His voice!
I flew from the garden to spread it abroad,
And shouted “Salvation” and “Glory to God!’’

I’m now on my journey to mansions above;
My soul’s full of glory, of light, peace and love.
I think of the garden, the sweat, blood and tears
Of that loving Stranger who banished my fears.

The day of bright glory is rolling around,
When Gabriel descending, the trumpet shall sound,
My soul then in raptures of glory shall rise
To gaze on the Stranger with unclouded eyes.

AWAKE THOU THAT SLEEPEST,

_____

AND arise from the dead, and Christ will give thee light. — Eph. 5:14. This does not mean men and women in the grave. No, it is those hushed to sleep in sin. Satan has ways of sweetening bitter drugs to deceive, and after we have taken them, oh, how bitter! Some are striving for a great name among men, worldly honor, love of self. How many there are who think they must have the best of everything they can get, while others have to go without. Some love to have everything in dress, and give up good name, salvation, health, friends, all to serve a cruel master who gives them nothing but suffering. When Satan sees one going to leave him to find a friend in Jesus, he will set all his host of imps at work to overthrow him in some way, discourage, afflict the body in sickness, tell him there is nothing you can do, now go to sleep and rest; you cannot preach; just give up trying to do like others; you are good enough; take the world easy; only claim all you want and you have it, now rest.

Oh how easy it is to go to sleep and be lost! Watch ye therefore, for ye know not when the master of the house cometh; lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch. — Mark 13:35-37. The Master told them when he went away he would come again. His word is true; we know he is soon coming. Jesus said, Now I have told you before it come to pass, that when it comes ye might believe. There is joy in believing, and trusting in all his holy word. The Comforter which’ is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things’ and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. — Jno. 14:26. The Father has sent the Great Teacher. Praise his holy name! Happy is the child living on the holy hill where all is pure and clean, born of the Spirit, willing to listen to one whisper of Him who said, Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Oh! sweet rest, given to all who come repenting, humble, obedient.

While the bridegroom tarries many are sleeping; no oil in their lamps. May the trumpet blow so loud and long, some will awake to righteousness and sin not. At midnight the cry may come, Behold the bridegroom cometh, go ye out to meet him. The wise have their lamps trimmed and burning. May many awake, trim their lamps and keep them burning. The light of the world is Jesus. One who has Jesus in the soul is not in darkness. In Him is life, and the life was and now is the light of men, and it shines in dark places. Then slumber no longer, turn neither to the right nor the left. Today if you will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. Then come, sinner, come, the bride and. Spirit call.

Come and be saved. Death is all around us; some suffering a long time; others go to bed and sleep, never to awake on earth. God help his saints to spread the good news. May some seed fall on good ground, and bring forth, some sixty, some a. hundred fold. God’s name be ever above all others, honored and glorified. God is love. We read of two different men falling asleep on a ship and a storm came, one in Luke 8:24. And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, Master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. He had no fear; storm or raging elements of sin had no power to make him tremble. We have the same God. He will keep us from sinking. When trials and cares come upon us and clouds look dark, and seemingly will break upon us, we call upon him; he is near; “ ’Tis I, be not afraid;” all fear is gone and we are kept by faith in Jesus. Well, saints cannot live without having many a severe test to prove them, many times in ways they are not looking for. Bless the Lord, all ye people!

When Jesus was praying, the disciples fell asleep. He prayed in great agony and came and said, “Could ye not watch one hour with me?” When he came the third time, he said, “Sleep on now and take your rest.” He could bear it all, and pay the debt without a murmur. ‘‘Father forgive them.” Then whosoever will may come and live.

We read of Jonah’s running away from God. He is on a ship asleep. The Lord sent out a great wind; there was a mighty tempest; the ship was about to be broken and all on board lost. And the ship master came to him, saying, What meanest thou, oh sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not. So they cast lots and it fell upon Jonah. But God had a work for Jonah and saved him from death. “When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the Lord, and my prayer came unto thee.” Jonah paid his vow.

Salvation is of the Lord. God will send out laborers to work where he bids them go; may God bless and keep them in every storm, and lead them on to victory, until it is said, Well done, good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.

Mary E. Allaway.

__________

THE “IFS” OF THE BIBLE.

_____

“AND Moses returned unto the Lord and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold. Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin; — and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.” — Exo. 32:31, 32.

Did the Lord answer his prayer? No, he punished the people for their sin, and told him to go forward in obedience to his commands. Abraham’s prayer for the rescue of Sodom, was a grand prayer in some respects, but there were six “ifs” in it, or peradventures, which mean the same thing. Peradventure there may be fifty righteous in the city, or forty- five, or forty, or thirty, or twenty, or ten. God had decreed otherwise, and so his prayer could not arise in full assurance of faith, or without an “if” in the way. The prayer of Elijah that changed wet weather to dry weather; the prayer that changed Hezekiah from a sick man to a well man; the prayer that halted the sun and moon without shaking the universe to pieces, all these had no “ifs” in them. Peter used the same “if” when sailing on the waters of Galilee when he cried, “If it be thou, bid me come to thee on the water.” No wonder he soon began to look to the right and to the left, and tremble with fear as his feet pressed the waves beneath him. Nearly all the prayers that were answered had no “ifs” in them.

We read that ”faith is the evidence of things not seen.” — Heb. 11:1. And unless we have the assurance (evidence) that the thing desired is according to the will of the Lord, we cannot pray in faith for it. It is written, “The prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up.” He is bound, therefore, to do as he has said: but remember there are no “ifs” in “the prayer of faith,” because it includes the evidence of the will of God. The Lord has not obligated himself (positively) to answer any other than the “prayer of faith.” He may have decreed otherwise. We may implore Him with loving entreaty, “Lord if it be thy will, spare the life of our loved ones,” but this is not “the prayer of faith,” because there is an if in our petition. Let us take example from the work of faith wrought through the ministry of the apostles. “Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none, but such as I have give I thee. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.” “But Peter put them all forth and kneeled down and prayed, and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise.” “The same heard Paul speak, who steadfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet, and he leaped and walked.” Why did these servants of the Master command with such authority? Because they possessed the faith (evidence) that the Lord was ready to heal. “Faith is the gift of God,” and it is for us to be so related to him that when he purposes to work through us, we may receive a fullness of faith (evidence); and when he does not will to work, that we may stand still also and “lay hands suddenly on ho man.” The word alone, is as a dead letter, but when the Spirit of the living God” leads us to agree with the word, then faith (evidence) springs up with assurance in the soul.

Many times the cause of Christ suffers reproach because that other than “the prayer of faith’’ is offered, also the afflicted ones (either in soul or body) are told that they must take it by faith, without a comprehension of the nature of the same. May God help us to so teach that they will understand that “faith is the evidence of things not seen,” and in the taking hold of the promise of God we instantly realize the evidence, or faith in the soul, and are ready to exclaim, “I know in whom I have believed.” Again there are conditions to be met, and many times God would have us realize the need of fasting and earnest prayer. When the disciples asked Jesus why they could not cast him out, he said unto them, “This kind can come forth by nothing but prayer and fasting.” And where one has been bound by the chains of the adversary a long time, we may be assured by the Savior’s reply to his disciples that it is necessary and well pleasing unto God for us to do likewise.

I once witnessed the laying on of hands on one who had been paralyzed over thirty years, but it was only a formal service and brought reproach upon the cause of healing. Had there been a time set apart to fast and inquire of God in the secret place as to his will in the matter, they would have been led to understand that the man was destitute of salvation, and that God had not undertaken his case at all. The scriptures mean all that is implied in the words written, “Be ye not unwise but understanding what the will of the Lord is.” Again, in the times of the reformation when the work of justification and afterwards sanctification was boldly preached and witnessed to, God was pleased to send down showers of blessings. The saints of those days were full of faith and ready to declare at the cost of their lives, that the blood of Jesus Christ cleansed them from all sin.

As a third distinct providence of God, the offence of the cross comes to us in these last days in the work of divine healing of the body. There are scoffers on every side; but just according as we walk with God in sweet communion, and with great boldness lift up our great physician before the children of men, even so will he endue us with “power from on high,” and give unto us a fullness of faith, “confirming the Word with signs following.”

THY TESTIMONIES ARE WONDERFUL.

Beach City, Ohio.

Dear Saints of the Living God: As I have never written to the Office or given in my testimony, I feel the dear Lord has led me to do so. Praise his holy name! My home is in Indiana. I am here in this place all alone, but the dear Lord is with me. Praise his name! There are no other saints here. I do ask your prayers. I know the dear Lord keeps me saved. I cannot praise him enough for his goodness to me.

Dear Saints: I feel led this evening, by the spirit of God, to write my testimony for the first time. I can praise God for complete victory. I am praising his holy name through the precious blood of our dear Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I know that the blood of Jesus cleanseth me from all sin and all filthiness of the flesh, and everything that pertains to a wicked or an evil spirit. Glory be to our God forever and ever! In him I put my trust. None but the children of God can tell how blessed and happy I am. And I give God all the praise and glory for it. Your brother in the love of Jesus,

To the Trumpet Readers: I will, for the first time, write my testimony for Jesus. Praise the Lord! I am all on the altar and the altar is Jesus, and he sanctifies me. Dear friends, I know what it is to live free from sin and I know what it is to live in sin.

I was forty years old when Jesus found me, and I had all the sinful habits that sinful man could have. I was a slave to tobacco. For twenty- seven years I used that vile stuff; and I was a noted liar. Oh saints of the Most High, I have such wonderful peace in my soul to know that Jesus has freed me from all sin. Glory to Jesus! The truth makes me free. Jesus said I am the way, the truth. St. John 14:6. I wish to say to the TRUMPET readers that have been cured of tobacco by the grace of God, to write to me and state how old they were when they commenced to use tobacco, and how old they were when they were cured. My Post Office address is Crescent, Okla. Let every one that sees this testimony, please write to me, and if there are any that cannot write get some one to write for you. I mean those that have been cured by the grace of God, of the tobacco sin. Yours, earnestly seeking the truth,

Dear Saints: I feel led to write my testimony for the glory of God. I do praise the dear Lord that he ever brought me to see what I was. I did not realize my condition till God called my little four-year-old sister home to live with him. Then it was that I saw I was not ready to meet my God. But I put it off from 27th of Dec. 1889 until in Jan. 1890, when there was a protracted meeting going on. I could not resist the call, and after one week’s hard struggle I found my blessed Savior in the pardon of my sins. I was then fourteen years old. Praise the dear Lord! About one year ago last April the dear Lord showed me that I could be cleansed from all sin. Hallelujah! I expected it and was blessed that same hour. Praise the Lord! The following August the Lord told me he wanted me to trust him for health for, before this from the time I was about eight years old I was always sickly; and in June, 1893, I was down bedfast and it was the general talk among my friends that I had not long for this world. I had dropsy and something was wrong with my nervous system. When I was about thirteen I had the St. Vitus’ dance and never got over that. But praise the Lord he healed me, and to day instead of being cold, for I was always cold and pale, I have red cheeks and am sufficiently warm. After I got sanctified they turned me out of the Baptist church, for I belonged to that church, or rather that sect. But praise the Lord, it did not turn me out of his church, and I praise him because he called me while I was young, so I can work for him in my young days. I send this in the name of the Lord, asking him to let it be the means of showing some one that, they can be converted, sanctified and healed. I am saved, sanctified and healed. Your sister in Christ,

Dora Baugh.

A few years ago a brother sent in an earnest appeal for help to purchase a house of worship that was going to be sold very cheap in his town. He wished the notice published at once. We took it to the Lord, and felt led to withhold the call, and write the brother asking what the real prospects were of procuring the house; when he replied that on inquiry he found it was all a mistake, and the house was not for sale. At another place an earnest appeal was admitted, and we believe some means sent, but the prospect failed, and the means did no good. Therefore, with the exception of churches in the surrounding country, where the situation is known, calls for help abroad should not as a rule be made, until the building is actually erected, or under headway. If the Lord leads, do what you can at home first. If you have nothing to start with you cannot expect a house built from abroad.

REMOVE THE CAUSE.

_____

Because of what was said about a month ago under the above head, we are informed that some are disposed to cast suspicion upon innocent parties. There is no need for this. If you do not know who the party alluded to is, take it for granted you do not at this time need to know. If you are ignorant of the circumstances you are not concerned in the matter. It is sometimes our duty to admonish persons without using the name; this will not hinder the person’s usefulness where he may be laboring, and yet have the righteous effect. In such cases take it for granted there was need of the exhortation, but not of the name: as the party it is designed to reach will be able to properly apply the same without the use of his name. “As charity — perfect love — thinketh no evil,” men of pure hearts do not cast about in their minds who is meant, and by a mere surmise rest the suspicion on some one, hit or miss. No; Bible holiness always gives a person plenty to do in the line of his own business. A brother suggests that we write an article to “remove the suspicion.” But since full salvation puts an end to suspicious feelings where no evil is known, we think it best to stick to the text. “Remove the cause.” All God’s ministers who are dead indeed, and not the person alluded to, have no fears they may be suspicioned. But should any one not be dead indeed, and have such fears, we still insist in love, down under the blood, REMOVE THE CAUSE.

A STONE OF STUMBLIBG.

The “STUMBLING STONE,” an antiordinance, (anti-christ) paper, published in Ohio, has truly become a stone of stumbling for every foul spirit, where they lodge and find access to pour out their slimy venom to try to poison the minds of the people that they may be turned away from the truth of the Bible and ushered on to destruction. The editor of the above named paper closes his last volume with the December number slimed on both sides with many base falsehoods and false teachings. It seems the GOSPEL TRUMPET is a stench and an eye-sore to him, and his croaking followers. And the gospel truth it sends forth cuts them and their false teachings like a two- edged sword, and the fire of the Holy Spirit burning the truth in on them, makes it as a grievous sore unto them. So they conclude that the most effectual way to prevent the spreading of the truth and to keep the people from believing the same, is to poison the minds of the people and prejudice them against the Trumpet and defame the character of the editor and publishers.

The editor starts out by giving a short note at the beginning of a number of pieces under the heading of “Warnerites,” written by persons who know they were positively writing falsehoods, or their minds have reached that state where they could not be considered responsible. The first, written by J. W. Wyrick of Chicago, a man who has for years been possessed of devils, starts out with the statement that Mary Cole of Kansas, and others separated him and his wife. He well knows that it was on account of his brutal conduct towards his wife and family that caused the separation, and the above named parties had nothing to do with the matter, to which his wife, Nancy Wyrick, of Geneva, Ill., would doubtless inform any enquirer. He then fires away at D. S. Warner with a line of falsehoods which it is useless to notice. But to show how low and deceptive he is in his presentation, we will call attention to one or two points. He says Warner was separated from his wife and married another woman. Do you see his deception? He evades the fact that Warner’s former wife died and that he was afterward married to another woman. He tries to make the people believe that Warner has a large farm, etc. in VanBuren Co., and asks the people to call at the county seat of said county and examine the record of deeds and see for themselves. They would find by so doing that the records show that he only has an interest in a small lot about 40×80 feet. His object in presenting this before the people was to prevent them from aiding with their means in spreading the gospel. He says, “Is it any wonder that there is so much murder in these last days,” etc. I quote the following from a letter which he wrote to me about three years ago, in which he says: “Were it not that I knew that God would not forgive a willful murderer, three of the ministers, (whom he mentioned) would be lying in their graves and I a murderer.” Do you now wonder that it would be any difficult task for such a man to manufacture a line of falsehoods, and fall in with a LIKE spirit and get them published.

Following the above accusations is another piece from Randolph Co.. Ind. by a man by the name of Porter, who pours out a vial of similar stuff, and ends up with these words: “I am saved to the uttermost and sanctified by the Holy Ghost, and not by a second work of grace.” He tries to make the public believe that the saints of God at that place arrest and put in prison people “who try to testify to salvation.” He has also evaded the truth. I happened to be in that community at the time this man was taken to prison, and the facts are that he got into trouble with a young lady and she had him arrested, and the court found him guilty and sent him to jail. He went through the whole affair professing to be saved and sanctified, but the children of God gave him to understand that they had no fellowship with his spirit. Shortly after, he was arrested again by the executors of the law, for some ungentlemanly conduct and went to jail again and came out, having never lost his profession of religion. He finally, last fall, went to a camp-meeting where the power of God was so manifest that the Spirit searched him out and made him to realize his condition, and he acknowledged that instead of being sanctified, he was possessed with evil spirits. And desired the brethren to pray for him, which they did, and the devils were cast out, and he heartily repented of his sins, and the next Sunday consecrated for sanctification. But not being willing to walk in the light of the Word, he soon became again the habitation of evil spirits.

The next piece in the S. S. is from B. F. Armitage, a western croaker of the same stripe, who is full of contention and debate, and spends a great portion of his time fighting the commands of Jesus, and the saints of God.

Now, we love the souls of these men and pray that if there is any possible hope, that the Lord may grant them repentance and deliver them out of the hands of Satan, that they may not be a hindrance and a stumbling-block to keep others from getting salvation. Dear brethren, let us pray for these souls that God may put a stop to their course of deceiving souls, and if possible grant them deliverance through his precious love.

ON THE ROCK,

_____

THERE is none holy as the Lord: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God. — 1 Sam. 2:2. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulders; and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. — Isa. 9:6. Glory be to his holy name! Wonderful counsellor, a mighty God! Dear saints, this morning finds me greatly rejoicing in the everlasting Father, the Rock on which I build. Truly I can say this morning I am better able to comprehend with you all (the saints) what is the breadth and length

and depth and height, and to know the love of Christ which passeth knowledge; and oh how I realize the fullness of God dwelling in me! Now unto him that is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us; unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus, throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. — Eph. 3:18-21.

Dear ones, I must say I have as it were passed through the waters and streams, and through the fire, but glory to our God, I was neither drowned nor burned. Truly it has seemed to me I was thrown into a furnace heat seven times hotter than need be. Glory be to God, the Infinite who doeth all things well! Truly I realize all things work together for good to those who love God. Truly God is like a refiner’s fire and like a fuller’s soap. Well God knew I needed some refining and a good scourging in order that I might be a vessel unto honor, sanctified and meat for the Master’s use.

Dear ones, about three months ago this refining commenced. Now many times I would quote Dan. 12:10 which says, Many shall be purified, made white and tried. Well I knew I gave myself up a living sacrifice to God and witnessed the purifying, but I couldn’t see where I had ever gone through much trial; but now God gave me to understand I was not going to escape it. Well it came in the form of a most grievous affliction, which was very alarming, and I could not apparently help myself. I would often go off in secret and talk to the Lord, and ask him just to show me if there was anything that I could do or needed done for my soul that I might get rid of the terrible affliction. Well one thing wherein I had made a misstep bothered me. I settled it, till I knew that was no longer in the way. But still God gave me to understand I must look out for these missteps, and that when I should get through I would be afraid to make another misstep. Well the affliction got worse, until I could neither study nor sing. I tried to rebuke it, thinking it would leave after while and I would resume my work; but nay, I had to come to my home at Elbing, Kan. After I came home I got better for a few days, but suddenly took worse and got so weak I was not able to do anything, scarceto get out of bed at times. I remained in this condition about four weeks. After the first day or two my brothers anointed me, as there were no elders in the country closer than twenty or thirty miles. I claimed my healing but did not seem to get better. I prayed and suffered until God saw fit to let me go. I had been getting some better until the day appointed for prayer for me in the TRUMPET. I got worse and was worse for two or three days and then would get a little better; until yesterday I had a terrible trial, and I got so vehement against Satan it seemed God had taught me about all he wanted me to learn in this affliction. So last night I got such a wonderful anointing from God in family prayer. The Lord just healed me and gave me such wonderful strength. Although in bed, I just shouted and praised God for about one hour. Then the family got the ECHOES and we had a sing. I could sing about as good as ever, only I was short winded somewhat. Well I arose this morning as supple as ever almost, dressed, went out to the table and ate breakfast; put on my hat and walked out to the barn and back. Oh hallelujah! All things whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. — Matt. 21:22. And verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. — Mark 11:23.

Dear brethren and sisters in Christ, money could not buy what I have learned since I have been afflicted. And I am sure I will never forget it, for it is stamped in my mind with the indellible finger of God. Oh I want to say unto all, Fear God and keep his commandments. I realize God must be feared and I also realize that God is going to have a people to work in this mighty reformation that have passed through the fire and been refined until they have no will of their own to dictate what shall be done and how it shall be done, but that God shall be honored in all things. I can say I am healed by the mighty power of God of a disease that man cannot heal. Glory be to our God! Oh! I can recommend my doctor to any one. He is no quack. Truly my soul doth magnify his name. I shall tell to all the world wherever God can be pleased and glorified of the wonderful thing he has done for me. I expect to devote the remainder of my life in talking to people about Jesus, and I shall never allow the devil any more to get me to looking for good times, or good places to go or stay while in the work, nor shall I dictate whom I shall go with. The Spirit will guide us into all truth if we will permit. Glory be to Jesus! I am too much afraid of God to ever disobey in the least; but I shall serve him from principle. Well, God bless you all. Pray for me that I may do much for Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you all. Amen. Your brother saved and sanctified,

C. E. Hunter.

Dear Saints of God, Greeting: May grace, mercy and peace abound unto you for Jesus’ sake. Amen. We left our home in Saginaw Co., came to this place and commenced meeting in the school house near Bro. Dan Sutherland’s on Dec. 23. At first there was much prejudice which was overcome in a few days and the Lord did mightily work on the hearts of the people. There have been four justified up to the present writing. The devil sent in an element which had a great bearing against the meeting, but the Lord did help us to overcome, and the work continues in interest. Last night the house was full, and excellent order and attention. Will continue as long as the Lord wills and then expect to hold a few meetings at Girard meeting house, and then as the Lord leads. We are praising God for full salvation and victory over all sin. Amen. Yours in Jesus,

T. J. Cox.

To the Church of the Firstborn, Greeting: May mercy and peace rest upon you for Jesus’ sake. Since last writing the good Lord has been leading me from victory to victory. Praise his name forever! We have just closed a very successful meeting at the Shady Grove school house near this place. There were eight converted and five sanctified, and five buried with Christ in baptism. Others expect to follow soon. Also we closed with a precious ordinance meeting in which fourteen took part. Truly as the word says, If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them. Brother and Sister Russel, were with me; also Bro. J. A. Montgomery and wife did good service in the meeting. May God bless and keep them. The Lord willing, we will go from this to Monett. All pray for the church at Shady Grove. Your brother sanctified, and in the work,

Gospel Trumpet: May the Lord bless all his dear ones. Amen. The Lord is with us in southern Indiana. Bro. Keeling and I have been in meeting, a few miles north-west of this and the Lord wonderfully awakened the people in that part, and much prejudice removed and some dear souls won to the truth; a few professed pardon, and others greatly benefited, etc. We have calls for meetings near, and the prospect is favorable for a good harvest of souls. We spent a few days with the dear ones in Bro. Schreiber’s neighborhood. He had returned from Pennsylvania and was in good condition to help in and enjoy the meeting at his place which was a real feast and settling down in the truth. We soon got-word to return to a point hear the place where we held the other meeting, and”‘ Bro. Keeling went as instructed, and I go to assist him in the meeting; and request alt the’- dear ones to gray for us and for the meeting, and may God bless you all for Jesus’ sake and keep us on the forward move for Jesus. Dickson, Ark., Jan. 8, 1894.

Dear Saints of God:. God bless all. We are still saved and sanctified just now. Praise God forever! We are still taking the Lord for our physician for soul and body. Our little boy has been very sick; we called on the dear Lord and anointed with oil as the word says, and prayed the prayer of faith, and the Lord wonderfully healed the child. Praise God forever! Oh our soul is full of the love of God, and we are praising the Lord for victory this morning. Oh we have had a glorious meeting here. Can report victory in Jesus’ name. Quite a number of old sect professors got blessedly saved, and measured up to the truth. Oh how hard Satan worked here. He had a dance near to try to get the young people away from the meeting; only two that were tending the meeting went to the dance. Quite a number of young people got saved and sanctified during the meeting. We must say we had large crowds and good order. May God bless the saints at that place and keep them true. Many more still seeking but it seems as though they can hardly pay the price. God help them to settle the matter with God for time and eternity. Dear saints of God, do pray for us that we may keep low down at the feet of Jesus, where he can use us to his glory. Your brother and sister in the war,

Dan Murphy and Wife.

A GENERAL WESTERN TABERNACLE.

Galesburg, Kan.

To God’s Saints in the West: Last fall God gave me to understand that there must be a large tabernacle espcially for the general western camp meetings. About one third is now promised, and as I will not be able to see all the congregations and individuals in the west that would love to invest a small freewill offering in the purchase of this tabernacle, deaf saints, ask the Lord how much he would be pleased for you to contribute. Where there are elders or deacons let them mention this at one of your meetings. And if there is neither elder nor deacon, some responsible brother or sister that is interested in this work, mention this to the saints; not as a money begging affair, but as a freewill offering to advance God’s cause. And as it will be almost impossible to send it direct to me, please send as the Lord prospers between now and April 1, 1894 to Bro. S. G. Bryant, Galesburg, Kan., by postal note, money order or registered letter, and not by bank checks. Much good was done last summer by the camp meetings. Let us take advanced steps in this direction and hasten on this good work. It is time the saints are deciding where these meetings are to be held. Last summer our company went three times across Kansas, making over $50.00 extra expense because they were not properly arranged. Let us improve in this respect. Also at every place where a camp meeting is expected to be held, if 500 to 1000 feet of 16 ft. lumber could be purchased and made into seats with backs, it would be a great benefit and this could be done during odd times between this and spring. Yours for the furtherance of the gospel,

Geo. L. Cole and Co.

Tullahoma, Tenn.

Dear Saints of God: We are happy to report victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. The dear Lord has been wonderfully blessing our souls during our campaign in Tenn. Our last report was from Cross Roads. From there we went to Turkey Creek and held meetings one week, resulting in two professions. From here we returned to Cross Roads and held services from Saturday night until Thursday night, with three consecrations. On Wednesday, the 6th of Dec., nine followed the example of Christ in the ordinane of baptism. We closed with a precious meeting in which thirty-one followed the command of Jesus in washing the saints’ feet and commemorating his death in partaking of the bread and wine. On the 8th we went to Spring Creek, continued one week in the Baptist meeting-house; five professed pardon. This moved the preacher to close his house against us. They said they did not want their house polluted by the so-called saints. The preacher did his best to defend his little flock from the word of God. We know that God planted the truth in this place to remain. The people are getting their eyes open in spite of blind teachers. We returned to Cross Roads and held meeting from Saturday till Tuesday night, resulting in eight professions; four were baptized. From here we went to Pratt school house and held services from Wednesday to Sunday. This was a seed-sowing time. Congregations small; opposition great. God kindled a fire that will never be put out. We returned on Sunday night to Cross Roads and had a very precious meeting with the saints and the next day being Christmas, we went to Estill Springs and commenced meetings in the Britton meeting house, here we continued until the following Lord’s day. No one was saved here, but we believe the truth was planted to remain. After this we returned to the church at Cross Roads. Sister Nancy Jellis was set apart, by the laying on of hands, as elder in the church at this place. God give her wisdom to walk before him unto all pleasing, and help the saints all to submit themselves to God’s appointment. Let all the saints at the above named place carefully read and obey 1 Peter 5:1-9. This closed our meetings in the vicinity of Tullahoma, Tenn. From here we go to Millville, Lincoln Co., Tenn. to continue preaching the Word as Long as God shall direct. Yours in Jesus,

J. F. Lundy and J. L. Pike.

Cape Girardeau, Mo., Jan., 11, 1894.

Dear Saints of God: May the peace of God which passeth all understanding keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. We closed the meeting at Marquand after continuing four weeks; and although we had to give way to numerous appointments for sect meetings which tended to hinder the interest, God gave sweeping victory for truth. We praise God that we realize that his grace is always sufficient, and in the hard battles against sin and error he gives wisdom and understanding to those who lean oft him, against which the powers of darkness cannot prevail. Beloved, live very humble, and trust in God wholly, and falsehood and error will find itself unable to stand before the truth you teach in the name of Jesus.

We met no small amount of opposition against the truth, but God made the truth so powerfully manifest that its opposers were forced to quit the field in public and do their work work in private or elsewhere than at the meetings. Many have gotten their eyes opened to the sin of division and sectism. A good many of those who are in sectism see its corruptions and we believe a number will yet get saved out of confusion who have not yet made their escape. At the beginning of the meeting there were but two who stood clear from isms, and now there are twelve or fourteen who we believe will stand for God. Several were justified and others sanctified. A few came out of sectism who had real salvation, one of whom was our dear Bro. R. B. Hicks, who was a Free-Will Baptist preacher. He had suffered no small opposition while preaching sanctification in his sect. God gave him the light against sectism, and he came out and has gone earnestly to publishing the full gospel. He is at present with us in the work. On Sunday evening two were buried with Christ in baptism (others will follow); and at night we had a glorious season washing the saints’ feet and taking the bread and wine in memory of our crucified Lord. Sixteen took part, most of whom will, we believe, stand free from sectism. The saints want a tabernacle meeting there next summer, and we believe a good number will be saved as there is deep conviction on many. We are here where the truth has been wanted for several years. Pray for us and the work at this place. Let all who write to us address us at this place. Yours in the love and fellowship of the gospel,

R. M. & L. Haynes and R. B. Hicks.

Floating Bethel, 6th St., Pittsburg, Pa., Jan. 8, 1894.

Dearly Beloved Saints of the True God: Grace be unto you all in every place. The good work of God is moving on nicely here. Congregations, though yet small in the Bethel, are increasing. Three at the altar last night, two were sanctified wholly. One consecration at the West end. The most effectual work that is being accomplished is in the instruction of quite a number of true hearts in the whole truth as it is in Christ. The evening light is shining out of the book of God into some who rejoice very much in the same. We are following out a line of connected sermons; beginning with the kingdom, church, New Jerusalem, new heaven and new earth, perfect salvation now, the apostasy, and have entered upon that glorious and wide range of present truth that relates to the restoration of the pure bride, and the downfall of the counterfeit churchism. Some hungry souls come every night. Services three times in the ark yesterday. Surely this floating house of God is a grand and practical means of publishing the gospel “from the rivers to the ends of the earth.” May God move his children to construct similar means of casting your bread upon the waters of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. This boat has only cost so far $407.73. But there are yet wanting to square up some debts, $40. To purchase an anchor and several other items needed in the outfit, including another coat of roofing paint, in all about $120, total $160. We hope the good Lord will continue to move dear consecrated hearts to help in this good work. By spring we think the Bethel can float on and leave a good strong church of the living God here in these two cities. One dear brother came from over thirty miles from the county, drank the whole truth, consecrated and was gloriously saved and went back a week ago to blaze it abroad, and several doors are open there and urgent calls. Dear Bro. and Sister Wm. A. Smith came to reinforce the work about two weeks ago, and later Bro. Samuel Marts came on board, enroute for glory. Hallelujah! we are all a happy crew, for Jesus is on the boat, and his glory fills the sanctuary. We are expecting Bro. and Sister Riggle to return ere long, and he and Bro. Clayton may go to Westmoreland Co. Wife and I expect to occupy our precious little sanctuary here until spring.

Since about the 15th of December, the winter in this place has been nearly as mild as the pleasant California climate.

The meeting is yet carried on in the west end of the city, and from one to three meetings are held every week in Allegheny. The tracts and Trumpets are working mightily here. They are in good demand, and frequently we hear of souls being helped to God by means thereof.

EZEKIEL 9TH CHAPTER.

_____

THE reapers are the angels, Jesus said. The greek word for angel is ANGELOS, which, translated into plain English is messenger. Paul describes them as ministers. Heb. 1:7-14. Hence angel signifies a messenger or a minister, or preacher; and a messenger is any one who has a message to deliver. God has messengers celestial and terrestrial. Jesus mentions the celestial angels in John 1:51. Jesus was made for a little while inferior to these by suffering death for us. — Heb. 2:9. The terrestrial angels are the ministers whom God hath sent to preach the gospel. God had a church or congregation of his people in seven different cities in Asia, and each congregation had an angel or minister. Rev. 1:20. Now if these had been celestial, John could not have written to them as commanded in Rev. 2nd and 3rd chapters. God’s angels are all sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation. Heb. 1:14.

Satan also has angels. Jesus speaks of an everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels. — Matt. 25:41. When the evening light began to spread, and the time came to cleanse the sanctuary or church, and to separate the hypocrites and unbelievers that had identified themselves with God’s people during the reign of Catholicism and Protestantism, there was war in heaven [church]; Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon [devil] fought and his angels. And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven [church]. [This fight is still in progress]. Rev. 12:7, 8. Paul refers to these as the rulers of the darkness of this world, and wicked spirits in heavenly places. Eph. 6:12. Peter warns us against these: Calling them false prophets and false teachers who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring to themselves swift destruction. — 2 Peter 2:1. [Damnable heresies is translated destructive sects in German], God says that he did not send these prophets [preachers], yet they ran. — Jer. 23:21. Paul describes them in 2 Cor. 11:13-15.

The time is here when religious professors will not endure sound doctrine, but after their own lusts they heap to themselves [hire] teachers, having itching ears. — 2 Tim. 4:3. They say to these prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits. Get out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us. [Do not preach Christ]. — Isa. 30:10, 11. Some of the up-town temple worshippers at this place offered one of these prophets a certain sum of money per annum, provided he succeeded in keeping the pews all occupied; he accepted the proposition and has succeeded in keeping all the pews occupied for several years. But he does not preach the gospel, for that was not demanded of him; but he receives thousands per annum, thus fulfilling the words in Micah 3:11. — The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money. This includes the Roman priest and Protestant preacher. But who are the heads that judge for reward? The ancient and the honorable [pope, cardinal, apostolic delegate, bishops, etc], he is the head and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail. — Isa. 9:15. But some one will say: “The above words refer to Zion and Jerusalem, and you say that Zion and Jerusalem are the church of the Firstborn, and prove it by Heb. 12:22-23; and you claim that the Roman Catholic and Protestant sects constitute the Babylon of Rev. 17th and 18th chapters, and that they are not the church at all. Please harmonize your belief with the words of Micah 3:11.” Well, let the word of God harmonize itself. Babylon hath been a golden cup in the Lord’s hands. — Jer. 51:7. God did use Babylon before she became so corrupt. Alas, alas, that great city that was clothed in fine linen! Rev. 18:16. The fine linen is the righteousness of saints. Rev. 19:8. Thus we see that God had a people in Babylon, and still has a few in there, for he is still calling, Come out of her my people. We would have ‘ healed Babylon, but she is not healed, forsake her and let us go every one into his own country.” Jer. 51:9. “Deliver thyself, O Zion, that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon.” Zech. 2:7. And the time is near at hand when a child of God will not be left in any sect. God’s word declares it. Rev. 18:23.

Well, says some one, “When did Babylon cease to be used of God?” When she became lukewarm, God spewed her out of his mouth. Rev. 3:16. When the evening light was ushered in, when God’s ministers began to preach holiness, many rejected the word of God and were cast into outer darkness. They still held on to their profession, but they rejected the messengers that preached holiness, and hired unbelievers to preach for them; the smoother the preacher the greater the demand for him, until at present some of them command princely salaries for their services. His [the devil’s] watchmen are blind; they are all ignorant [of the word of God]; they are all Dumb Dogs [D. D.’s]; they cannot bark [the hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling. Jno. 10:13]. Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand; they all look to their own way, every one for his gain from his quarter. Isa. 56:10, 11. As a result of rejecting the word of God, Babylon is become too corrupt for God’s true children, and they are coming out of her. While many rejected the word of God on holiness, the vast majority of the professing world utterly disregarded God’s call shortly afterward, to “Come out of her my people.” Hundreds of laymen and scores of preachers who had accepted the doctrine of holiness or heart purity, now fell, and preferred going down into everlasting chains of darkness, to parting with their sect home. And the stars of heaven [ecclesiastical heaven] fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs when she is shaken of a mighty wind. Rev. 6:13. The stars here are preachers. See Rev. 1:20. The seven stars are the messengers of the seven churches. This came to pass under the sixth seal. They refused to come out of her, and went down with her, to be found no more at all. Rev. 18:21. And the sun shall go down over the prophets, and the day shall be dark over them. Micah 3:6.

I visited a monster religious meeting in Chicago last summer. The name of the preacher was at one time a household word in all the English speaking world. God used him in saving many souls. But oh, how changed! a fallen star! “Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty; thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness. I will cast thee to the ground. I will lay thee before kings that they may behold thee.” Ezek. 28:17. The people or God are the kings, and when they behold these fallen stars, they are moved to say with Hezekiah: “They that go down into the pit cannot hope for the truth. The living, the living he shall praise thee, as I do this day. Surely if there is no hope beyond the grave, there is no hope for those whom God hath sacrificed to “every beast of the field, and unto every feathered fowl.” (I saw hundreds of feathered fowls in that audience.) “And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie; that they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” 2 Thess. 2:11, 12.

We see the slain of God all around us; but how are they slain? He cried also in mine ears with a loud voice, saying, Cause them that have charge over the city to draw near, even every man with his destroying weapon in his hand. And behold, six men came from the way of the higher gate, which lieth toward the north, and every man a slaughter weapon in his land; and one man among them was clothed with linen, with a writer’s inkhorn by his side; and they went in and stood beside the brazen altar; and the glory of the God of Israel was gone up from the cherub whereupon he was, to the threshold of the louse. And he called to the man clothed with linen, which had the writer’s inkhorn by his side: and the Lord said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof. And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite, let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity. Slay utterly old and young, both maids and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house. And he said unto them, Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain: go ye forth. And they went forth and slew in the city. And it came to pass, while they were slaying them, and I was left, that I fell on my face and cried, and said, Ah Lord God! wilt thou destroy all the residue of Israel in thy pouring out of thy fury upon Jerusalem? Then said he unto me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceeding great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perverseness. For they say, The Lord hath forsaken the earth, and the Lord seeth not; and as for me also, mine eyes shall not spare, neither will I have pity, but I will recompense their way upon their head. And behold, the man clothed with linen, which had the inkhorn by his side, reported the matter, saying, I have done as thou hast commanded me.” Eze. 9th chap.

What an awful description of the doom of great Babylon! Who are those who have charge over the city?

When Paul had called the elders of the church at Ephesus, he said unto them, “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.” Acts 20:28. God’s ministers then have charge over the city. The slaughter weapon is the Word of God. “For the word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword; piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Heb. 4:12. God sends his holy ministers to preach the everlasting gospel, and says, “He that heareth you, heareth me: and he that despiseth you, despiseth me; and he that despiseth me, despiseth him that sent me.” Luke 10:16.” And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loased in heaven.” Matt. 16:18.

The Roman Catholics say that the pope is still in possession of this key. Let us see if he is. They claim that they inherited Peter’s key. Well what became of all the other keys? “Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven”. Matt. 18:18. I am glad the pope did not get all the keys. The Roman Catholics claim to have power also to forgive sins. But the Bible says, “There is one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” 1 Tim. 2:5. Jesus saith to his disciples, Whosesoever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them, and whosesoever sins ye retain, they are retained. John 20:23. Yes, the same key that does the loosing does the remitting, and the key that does the binding does the retaining. The word of God is the key, but the Spirit and the Word agree in one. 1 Jno. 5:8. The key cannot be manipulated without the Holy Ghost. Thousands in these latter days sit under the preaching of God’s word by men of God filled with the Holy Ghost, and reject the awful truths of the gospel, and are cast into outer darkness, bound hand and foot, their sins retained, forever doomed to spend an awful eternity with the demons. “There shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.” A few accept the truth and are loosed from Satan’s clutches, and their sins remitted. God’s ministers are unto him a sweet savor of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish. To the one they are the savor of death unto death: and to the other the savor of life unto life, 2 Cor. 2:15, 16, because they preach Christ. “Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.” “Happy is he that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the rock [margin].” Psa. 137:9. How often we see precious souls ground to powder when dashed against the rock, because they refuse to accept the pure gospel, when God’s awful “judgment is laid to the line and righteousness to the plummet, and the hall sweeping away the refuge of lies, and the waters are overflowing the hiding place,” because they are not willing to live apart from their sect, nor to part with their sins! How often I wondered before I was saved, why the professing Christians looked black in their faces, while listening to the pure gospel by those whom God sent out to “blow the trumpet in Zion!” But Joel prophesied that they would. Joel 2:6 — “Before their [God’s messengers’] face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness.” Because there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent, and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail: for the plague thereof was exceeding great. Rev. 16:21.

O dear reader, if you are still out in the storm, hasten, hasten, seek a shelter! Escape the sinner’s awful doom! The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous runneth into it and are safe. There is no safety in any other name. Every stone about the weight of a talent. A talent weighs 102 lbs. And God is sending his mighty angels to preach this gospel of the kingdom to all nations, so there is no escape except in Jesus.

“And they shall sever out men of continual employment, passing through the land to bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it. After the end of seven months shall they search. And the passengers that pass, when any seeth a man’s bone, then shall he set up a sign by it, till the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamongog.” Ezek. 39:14, 15. “Come not near any man upon whom is the mark.” Praise the Lord! The Lord is marking his people.

“And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God, and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.” Rev. 7:2, 3. “Having this seal: the Lord knoweth them that are his.” Are you sealed, dear reader? The Holy Spirit is the seal. Eph. 4:30. And the glory which thou gavest me, I have given unto them. Jno. 17:22. If we are in possession of the glory, we are sealed. Because the sanctifier within sends the glory without. It is found only in the church of the living God. There is no other church. “The mountains [big sects] and the islands [little sects] are moved out of their places.” And even the infidel knows that these strongholds of hypocrites, these “cages of every unclean and hateful bird” are not God’s church, nor any part of it. “They shall proceed no further, for their folly shall be manifest unto all men.” Ezekiel said that “they began at the ancient men before the house.” The leaders are always the first to reject the Word and are the first to be slain. Jesus said, “He that rejecteth me and heareth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word which I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.” God’s messengers are now “taking forth the precious from the vile.” Harvest time is here. “The harvest is the end of the world.” The reapers are gathering together the tares and binding them in bundles to burn them. “If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered, and men gather them and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.” Jno. 15:6. All creeds and secret orders are included in the word bundles. And while Israel hath forgotten his Maker and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities; God is sending a fire upon his cities, and is devouring the palaces thereof. Hosea 8:14. But the righteous are shining forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. While the wicked are being judged by the word that Jesus spake.

To the Trumpet Family, Greeting: I am praising the Lord for freedom. I thank the Lord this evening that I am saved, and my trust is in Jesus. All the comfort of this life is nothing to be compared with the joy and peace we have in our souls when we do the Lord’s will. I do want to live true to the Lord. I see so many perishing souls going down to ruin, and it makes my heart ache within me to see them going down to destruction unprepared to meet God. Pray for me, brethren and sisters, that I live humble and true to the Lord. My whole desire is to love and serve him while I live.

Dear Saints: I feel it to be to God’s glory to say a word for him. I am saved, praise Cod, and kept by the power of God. Where he leads me I will follow. My heart is so full of love to him and his little ones. Some time ago I requested prayers for my healing, being troubled with catarrh in my head so I could not breathe without great pain; my face was swollen badly and I could not sleep at night. But praise God, he has healed me; and I am rejoicing in him. I have just been reading the TRUMPET. How my heart goes out in praises to God when I read of the work in the field. My heart is full of praise and thanksgiving. Praise God for salvation and the peace and victory I feel in my soul! And now may God ever keep all his own in sweet unity and peace, is the prayer of your humble sister,

Dear Saints of the Living and True God: I feel it my duty to testify through the TRUMPET that the Lord has saved my soul and delivered me from the power of the enemy, and destroyed the works of the devil out of my heart, and I am under the cleansing blood of Jesus. Just now it is flowing over my soul and makes me whiter than snow. The last year has been greater victory in my soul than ever before, and I expect greater victory in Jesus the coming year, for my faith is growing stronger every day in the Lord, and ready for the battle wherever Jesus leads. The Lord has been sinking me down deeper in humility, and this is just what I needed. Praise God forever and ever! I do love Jesus above every thing else. He is so precious. God bless every reader of the TRUMPET. If there are any poor discouraged souls, look up to Jesus and take fresh courage; he is our great deliverer; he has done much for me and can do much for you if you are willing to let him. He is no respector of persons. Praise his holy name! From your saved and sanctified sister,

Clema Koonce.
