All in all to Me.

_____

Who is my life but Christ alone?
I seek no joy beside;
His love and peace flow in my soul,
An everlasting tide.

What is my hope but Christ in me,
The hope of glory bright?
No one but Jesus set me free,
He only is my light.

Who is the church but Christ alone?
No other fold I need.
I live in him the living vine,
His word my only creed.

Who but my Savior died for me?
He only did atone
For all my sin upon the tree;
He drank the cup alone.

Who purchased me when lost in sin?
O Christ, thy love I own!
O Lamb of God, my all is thine,
I am no more mv own!

FALSE PROPHETS.

_____

We read that many false prophets would rise and deceive many, and if it were possible they would deceive the very elect. There are multitudes of these prophets in the world to day. The Word says, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God; because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” — 1 Jno. 4:1. How are we to try the spirits? “For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. * * * Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed.” — 2 Jno. 7, 9, 10. Any one who teaches doctrines contrary to the word of God, has not the spirit of Christ, and he that biddeth such a one God speed “is partaker of his evil deeds.”

How are we to know these prophets? Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Matt. 7:15, 16. We cannot judge these prophets by their outward appearance, for many of them come as “angels of light,” in “sheep’s clothing.” They outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within they are full of hypocrisy and iniquity. But by their fruits we shall know them.

What are some of the fruits of these false prophets? FIRST, they scatter and divide God’s people. “Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the Lord. Therefore thus saith the Lord God of Israel against the pastors that feed my people; ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the Lord.” — Jer. 23:1, 2. These prophets sit in the temple of God, showing themselves that they are God, and pretend to take members into the church, which only the Lord can do (see Acts 2:47; 2 Cor. 12:18.). And by leading the children of God into the sects (which God’s word condemns; see 2 Pet. 2:1-3; 1 Cor. 11:18, 19; Gal. 5:19-12), they scatter and destroy the sheep of his pasture. Sectism has scattered and divided the children of God to the “four winds.” And yet these prophets will say you must join some church (sect) in order to keep together. “Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.” — Rom. 16:17, 18. Oh, the thousands of souls that are led astray by these shepherds who slumber, and teach for doctrine the commandments of men! Well hath the prophet said: My people hath been lost sheep; their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away on the mountains, they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their resting place. — Jer. 50:6. People have been wandering from one sect to another and have forgotten that in Christ only there is rest. Mountains and hills are large and small sects. See Jer. 51:24, 25; Jer. 3:23.

SECOND: They preach for money. “The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money: yet will they lean upon the Lord and say, Is not the Lord among us? none evil can come upon us. — Micah 3, 11. These prophets go where they receive large salaries, because they are “hirelings, and care not for the sheep.” Yea, they love to have a quarterly payment. Isa. 56:9-11. They ran, but the Lord never sent them. Therefore he says, “Woe be to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves (tax the people for large salaries)! Should not the shepherds feed the flocks? Ye eat the fat, and ye clothe you with the wool, ye kill them that are fed, but ye feed not the flock. The diseased have ye not strengthened, neither have ye healed that which was sick [they preach the day of healing is past], neither have ye bound up that which was broken [do not preach Bible salvation to the broken-hearted sinners], neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them. * * * Therefore, O ye shepherds, hear the word of the Lord; thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against the shepherds; and I will require my flock at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the flock; neither shall the shepherds feed themselves anymore; for I will deliver my flock from their mouth, that they may not be meat for them.” — Ezek. 34:2-4, 9, 10.

Oh praise God! We have reached that time. The Lord is delivering his flock from the mouths of these Babylon teachers. He is assembling his fold (pure church) upon the high mountains of Israel. They are feeding upon a “fat pasture,” in a land that flows with milk and honey; namely, entire sanctification. While the Lord is hastening this work, we hear these Babylon priests “howl” and “cry;” for the Lord has “spoiled their pasture.” They go among their flocks and try to persuade them not to come out to hear the truth. But the “hail is completely sweeping away their refuge of lies, and the waters are overflowing their hiding places.” The burning truth of God is so penetrating to day, that these blind guides can no longer deceive God’s little ones who have on the whole armor of God. Yet we find these are the kind of teachers that the majority of the professors want. They don’t like to hear anything against pride, festivals, worldly conformity, secret lodges, tobacco, etc., “but after their own lusts they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” 2 Tim. 4:3, 4. “This is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the Lord: which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits.” Isa. 30:9, 10. These poor deluded souls, in order to raise the heavy tax laid upon them by these preachers, hold festivals, ice creams, and other abominations, and by so doing send their souls down to hell. Even sporting themselves with their own deceivings. In their feasts (festivals) they are made drunken (with sect wine), and rejoice. And the Lord pours out upon them the spirit of deep sleep, from which they will never awake. Oh generation of vipers! How will you escape the damnation of hell?

May all God’s children do their duty, in faithfully warning the people of their awful condition, and by so doing, lead the most honest souls into the fold of Christ. Amen. Your humble brother, saved and sanctified, and kept by the mighty power of God free from all sin.

H. M. Riggle.

__________

PRAYER.

_____

To lift our hearts to God in prayer
Promotes an inward work of grace;
It sets us free from earthly care,
And brings us to behold his face.

Unceasing prayer brings us so near
To God in sweetest love,
Transfers our mind from things of earth
To brighter things above.

And he who would advance in grace,
Who would Christ’s image wear,
Must oft behold his smiling face
In humble pleading prayer.

Let us lift our hearts with our hands unto God in the heavens. — Lam. 3:41. I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands without wrath and doubting. — 1 Tim. 2:8. The righteous in all ages acknowledged the importance of prayer. In the days of the pious patriarchs altars were erected to the God of heaven and men called upon his name.

Prayer comes from a Hebrew word meaning, intercession, appeal. It is the offering up of our desires unto God under the influence of the Holy Spirit, agreeable to his will. An act of the creature making known their desires with confidence to the Creator. One thing have I desired of the. Lord, that will I seek after. — Psa. 27:4. What things soever ye desire when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. — Mar. 11:24. God by his Spirit will enable us to have a deep sense of our needs; a sense of our needs creates desire; an earnest desire prompts us to seek, stimulates us to believe, and is the essence of prayer.

Prayer without desire is unavailing. Many a prayer has been offered for forgiveness of sins without a burning desire to be free from sin, but was never answered. Prayer may be offered for an increase of faith, for deeper humility, for more of his fullness, for a closer walk with God, and be unanswered because the supplicant does not deeply feel the need of the things asked for. Let us launch away out into the deep and keep off the shallows of formality. Pray God to give you such a desire that your “heart and flesh crieth out for the living God.” — Psa. 84:2. Jacob felt his need of the blessing and this sense of need created such a desire that he wrestled with the angel and cried, “I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.” The holy, harmless Jesus “in the days of his flesh,” retired to some lonely spot and there “offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears.” — Heb. 5:7. These things are ensamples unto us and should awaken in us the needfulness and importance of earnest prayer, and make us untiring in our petition to God. To God only should our prayers be addressed. “Call upon ME,” says the Lord, “in the day of trouble.” Prayers addressed to saints, to angels, to the Virgin Mary, to any created being, have no promise of answer. Each person of the Trinity has his office, and the scriptures evidently teach that prayers ordinarily are to be addressed to the Father in the name of the Son, under the direction and influence of the Holy Spirit. “I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Our prayers to be answered must of necessity be offered in accordance with God’s will. The desire must be created by the Spirit and not by fleshly lusts. Every impure motive, improper disposition, must be canceled. If I regard iniquity in my heart the Lord will not hear me. Man by transgression has forfeited the right to the blessings of glory and therefore cannot expect to receive them upon any worthiness or merit of his own. “Grace and glory” and “good things” are promised us, and so when we come unto God it is with the remembrance that we are subjects, he the Sovereign, and claim the promises of our unfailing Lord through the merit of his Son, who has reconciled us unto the Father and brought us unto a Relationship with him which secures his promises to us. The direct tendency of the earnest prayer of faith is to promote an inward work of grace. To advance in the Christian life and virtues is the result of prayer.

Few people pray as much as they should, and perhaps fewer still pray in the manner they should. He who is contented with the family devotions of two or three times a day is too easily satisfied. It is the prayer in some secluded place that draws Christ so near. Beholding Jesus in secret prayer conforms us to his image. Pray fervently. — Col. 4:12. Pray sincerely. — Psa. 17:1. Pray constantly. — Col. 4:2. God is advancing with his holy remnant, increasing them in power, faith and glory. But this advancement is gained only by earnest faithful endeavor. Who is it of this holy people that has nothing more to gain? Have you reached the summit and there is no more land for you to possess? By the careless lives of some we are made to believe that they suppose themselves to have reached the end. Such need to ask God to help them see their needs and create in their heart a desire to be more like Jesus. How can we become more like Jesus? The Polar bear is white like unto that region of perpetual snow. The Bengal tiger is colored like unto the grasses of his jungle. To be like Jesus and wear his image is to live only in him. Hold no communion with this world, find no pleasure in fleshly lust, but hold communion with God. Allow not your thought to dwell upon the things of earth, but live in Jesus. Praise his dear name!

Dear reader, are you spending as much time in earnest prayer as you believe you should? Almost every week there are requests for prayer in the TRUMPET, sometimes asking us to fast with them. Have you that earnest care for others that you bring them to Jesus in fasting and pleading prayer, or do you lay the paper aside and forget the hour of prayer? Let us pray more, and when you pray, remember me; I feel my needs.

Chas. Orr.

Dear Saints: I have just been reading the Trumpet, and it does me so much good to read the testimonies of God’s dear children. I can say that I am saved and the Lord is settling me down deeper in his will. I feel his presence in my soul. Praise the Lord for what he does do for us! Surely he is teaching us more of his ways in this place, and we have good meetings. God blesses our souls. Dear saints, I do ask your earnest prayers for my dear mother. She is afflicted with lame back, and has not been able to come to meeting this winter. Pray that her faith be increased and that the Lord may give her strength to come to meeting. I know the Lord is able to do more than we can think or ask. Your saved sister,

Dear Ones in Christ: I will try and write a few lines with God’s help. I have never met any one yet of the saints; the TRUMPET was the first that I knew there was any such people. I have wondered why I never could find any one that believed the Bible as I did. I have talked with hundreds of people, but never knew of any until I got hold of the GOSPEL TRUMPET. Thank God for it! It does my soul good to read it. God bless it and all the saints. Oh that some of the ministers that are full of the fire could come this way! That is my prayer. I ask the prayers of the saints, that I may be healed and cleansed of all the worldliness that hinders me from receiving the Holy Ghost. I was cleansed from tobacco last fall. I want more of the Holy Spirit. His will be done, not mine. From your brother in Christ,

Dear Saints of God: I can say of a truth that this morning finds me saved and sanctified and kept by the mighty power of God. Oh glory to God! I am so glad that I am at the fountain of God’s love, where I can ever abide. About four years ago I became converted to God and walked in all the light I had, till about one year ago, then I became wild and reckless and thirsty for the abominations of this world, which the devil told me I could have more pleasure in. But when I had lost my Savior, I had lost all hopes of heaven, and my best friend, who was Jesus. Oh what a wretch I was! When God in his own will took away one of my dear little brothers, then I became very much troubled about the way I was living. I sought for peace but found none, till I came to the Lord. Then what joy and happiness the Lord gave to me, is unspeakable. Oh hallelujah! I am standing on the solid rock Christ Jesus. I am glad that I am consecrated, both soul and body, to do the will of the Lord. I had to give up many friends who forsook me because I gave my heart to God and would not go hand-in-hand with them in this world. But I would not exchange the life I now live for ten thousand worlds like this. Oh the joys of full salvation! How it fills my inmost soul! Your sister saved and sanctified,

Corda Whipple.

News from the Field

Merrill, Mich.

Dear Brethren: This morning finds me sweetly saved in Jesus. I can say of a truth that God is with me in preaching the Word. I have just closed a meeting about six miles southeast of Hemlock City, Mich. God was with us in power to save. There were in all about eight souls at the altar, some for pardon and some for a deeper work of grace in their souls, and God gave them their hearts’ desire. Quite a number saw the one church and the oneness of God’s true children. There were many more that were under conviction but would not yield. Next Sunday, the Lord willing, I shall begin a meeting three miles west of the place where I closed meeting, at Bro. Myers’ school house. Pray for me that God may use me to his glory and the salvation of poor lost souls. From your brother in Christ, saved and under the blood,

Jesse Drowley.

Grant’s Pass, Ore., Mar. 19, 1894.

Dear Brethren: I am praising God this morning for a full and complete salvation. During my last stop here at this place I held a few meetings on Jones Creek. Also a dear brother in Kansas ordered one thousand tracts sent to me for distribution, for which we return many thanks to the brother and also to God, and ask God’s blessings upon him and also those that may read the tracts. These were about the only tracts we have had since we have been on the coast. We could have scattered thousands of tracts and papers, if we could have had them. So we have been scattering tracts and papers up and down the coast. We expect to go south to Woodland, Cal., this week if the Lord wills. We hope that God may send more laborers in southern Oregon to work, for the harvest is ripe. Sister Matchett and daughter consecrated for sanctification, but their faith seems to be weak, and they desire the prayers of all the saints that their faith may increase and that they may be sanctified wholly. Please remember the dear sisters in your prayers, and also your humble servant all consecrated and enlisted in this great battle for lifetime. Yours in the one body,

Michael Stover, Jr.

Willow Hill, Pa., March 20, 1894.

To the Saints and Trumpet Readers, Greeting: After closing the Amberson Valley meeting we commenced meeting at Mt. Rock, Cumberland Co., Pa., Jan. 28 which was continued for six weeks. Holiness had never been taught through here at all. God enabled us to give his truth straight. On the eighth night five came for pardon, and from that on every night there were from three to fifteen seekers, until seventy-five claimed pardon and two the perfect cleansing. Many heads of families were converted, and on the last Sabbath some testified that whereas their home was a hell, now it is a heaven. It was a hard field, but our Jesus was victorious, and the country was stirred tor ten miles around, as they had never heard the truth on this wise. Truly the fields are white to the harvest, but the laborers are few. Oh, that God would send fire baptized teachers through here where darkness, yea, where gross darkness covers this land. Fourteen families took the Trumpet, so much good seed will be sown. We go from here to McConnellsburg, Fulton Co., Pa. We are saved to the uttermost and out for Jesus,

Geo. A. and Hannah Wolfe.

Tidioute, Pa., Mar. 21, 1894.

Dear Gospel Trumpet Readers: May the peace of God rest upon all in the name of Jesus. Amen. We wish to report that we are still fully saved in Jesus, and that God has highly approved and blessed our coming to Pennsylvania. Oh the eternal joy that fills our souls as we speak the word to the attentive listeners! The meeting near Tidioute proved a great blessing to many souls. It continued about ten days, during which time about ten or twelve souls were made free from sin, and some from sectism. God has established a precious little church in those parts, full of holy zeal and salvation. Monday I baptized seven happy saints in the Allegheny river. Every one came out shouting that the Son had made them free. May the Lord ever keep them fully trusting in him and in one Spirit, also may God reward both them and the friends of the truth for their kindness to us in supplying our needs. At the close of the above meeting we went to the Averal school house and preached once to a large house of attentive listeners. We are now on Kelly Hill in the home of our much beloved Brother and Sister Taylor whom the Lord has his hand upon for the work. We will hold about three meetings and do baptizing, then go to Mt. Pleasant meeting house. From there to the Hill school house and hold a few meetings and also baptize some. From the Hill school house to Fertigs and hold from Mar. 29th until April 2d the Lord willing. From Fertigs we go to Butler; as we pass through we hope to stop off at Turkey City and visit Bro. S. B. Heeter and family, also stop off at St. Petersburg and have one meeting with the little church at that place. At the close of the Butler meeting we will return home for a short time, the Lord willing. Brethren, keep asking God to bless and keep us faithful and use us to his glory. We are and shall ever remain your brethren in the establishing grace of God, sanctified wholly,

S. L. Speck and B. E. Warren.

Ponchatoula, La., Mar. 20, 1894.

Dear Saints and Trumpet Readers: The Lord is still blessing our labors in this country. A few people here are being redeemed from the darkness of sin and the confusions of Babylon. Praise the Lord! My health has been very poor since Jan. until late; I am better now, but still feeble. Please pray the Lord to give me strengh to do his work. The Lord has gloriously stretched forth his hand in this country, to aid and heal the afflicted, not only in my case but in many others. A little over a year ago he did most gloriously and instantly heal Bro. J. L. Bernard of convulsions of twenty-nine years standing, also a young lady of the same parish, whom the Lord raised up and healed of consumption when she was very low. And he has healed a lady of convulsions, also several of LaGrippe or pleurisy, some of fever, others of chills, one other who had been afflicted for years, and one of consumption, all in answer to prayer. Praise the Lord, to whose holy name be all the glory. Dear ones, please continue to pray for us. I wish all the dear ones who write to me, expecting an answer from me would enclose a stamp, as I have a great deal of writing to do, and am a very poor man in this world’s goods, and it costs much to buy stamps year after year. Please excuse me for making this request, as I have a good-sized family and money is scarce, and often I can’t write because I am out of stamps. Direct all letters to box 16, Ponchatoula, La. Your brother in Christ,

Dear Saints of God: We are glad to report victory in Jesus, who keeps us saved in him. Since we left Bro. Kilpatrick and Co. at Greenwood, S. C. we have been made to enjoy wonderful blessings in the Lord. We came to this place Augusta, our home, on the 9th of March and found a few that were holding to the faith as it is in Christ. Sorry to say that Satan had used his little black devil (tobacco) in drawing some away from the truth and from their steadfastness in the Lord. May the dear Lord help them to give up this habit and reconsecrate and get saved from it, according to 2 Cor. 7:1. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be dilligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. 2 Pet. 3:14, This one of the spots we have to get cleansed from by the blood of Jesus Christ, in order to be found without spot, and blameless Thank God for sending his true ministers down south. Also I praise him for a few souls that have taken the whole truth and are standing out clear for him in this place. Pray for us, dear ones, that we may stand firm. There are those here who claim to be out for God, but by their fruits they prove otherwise. “By their fruits ye shall know them.” Dear ones, pray much for us in this part of his vineyard, that he may use us to own glory. We expect to continue meeting in these parts if the Lord wills. Your saved brother contending for the faith,

Dear Brethren: We wish to report victory on the Lord’s side and in Jesus’ name. We closed meeting in Holt with a very precious ordinance service, there being about thirty taking part; quite a number of them were those who had recently given themselves to the Lord. It was a very precious and solemn season for all present. May the dear Lord bless and keep the church at Holt. If any of the brethren should pass by that way, the saints would be happy to have them stop and preach to them, as they have a nice little meeting house in about the center of the little town.

From Holt we came to Lansing and were invited to preach to the colored Baptist people. We accepted the invitation and had the privilege of preaching the gospel to that people three nights, and nearly all present accepted the truth. At the close of the meeting, the last evening, the preacher arose and said, “Now we will open the doors of the church and invite you in,” but they invited and sang and again invited but he could not get one into his trap or sect, for which we praised God aloud. From Lansing we came to this place and attended services Saturday evening and Lord’s day, about six miles west of St. Louis, where Sister Walters and Bro. Reaves held a very successful meeting a few weeks ago. We were happy to find a people all alive for God, and filled with the Spirit. We enjoyed a very precious season with the church in this place, and in the evening we followed the example of our Lord in washing the saints’ feet and breaking bread, there being about thirty in this place who followed Jesus in this command.

We are now in the village of St. Louis, holding up Jesus. Many see their need of a sanctified life, and sinners also are under conviction and want Jesus. Pray for us, dear brethren. Your saved brother,

W. B. Grover.

Floating Bethel, Sixth St.,
Pittsburg, Pa., March 23, 1894.

Dear Saints: I am praising the living God for perfect victory. The Lord has just raised me up from a severe spell of nervous prostration. I am feeling well. Meetings were suspended on the boat this week for rest, after a five months siege. We were agreeably surprised by a visit from Bro’s Warner and Schell enroute west. Two were baptized last Lord’s day. Last week I had the privilege of teaching the way of perfect salvation on Monday and Thursday at 10:30 in the Morehead building, where poor people come to have their baskets filled with provisions. About twenty held up their hands for prayer, many of which have not been in a religious meeting of any kind for years. Still pray for the work here. The gospel is having its effect here. Babylon is readjusting her machinery, by suspending the Dunby show department and making side entrance for the holy remnant, and appointed three holiness camp meetings within forty miles of Pittsburgh. Oh how foolish to think they can heal Babylon! “They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace. Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the Lord.” Jer. 6:14, 15. “We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go every one into his own country: for her judgement reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies. The Lord hath brought forth our righteousness; come, and let us declare in Zion the work of the Lord our God.” Jer. 51:9, 10. Truly the Lord sent us to this place. Other doors are opening up, and the Lord is raising up workers to help along with the blessed work. In a few weeks we are to leave here. We have not been able to get the necessary equipments for the boat yet, guards, anchor, capstan, hog chains, etc. We believe the Lord will supply all our needs as he has according to his word. Yours, all on the altar,

G. T. Clayton.

go, West Africa, for Jesus, and while here, in answer to prayer the Lord brought me among the dear ones in this city, such as Sister Shoffner, Bro. Rupert, and the rest of the saints. Praise God, we are having Holy Ghost meetings all for the glory of God. I have been in Mr. Simpson’s training college for quite a while, and if I had had plenty of money, no doubt they would have sent me out under the Alliance; but praise God, I didn’t possess any, so am still free to keep on the whole armor of God. I am so glad that we can sing with a truthful heart, “Where he leads me I will follow.” It is easy to go out for the Lord, having a first-class passage, and a grand house on the other end, and your regular salary coming to you; and look out for number one first, and then if it is convenient, go and try and swell the number of our church books. But dear ones, let me be plain: the devil doesn’t want any thing better than to get people to be contented with names on the book of what he calls the visible church, his own bride, his lawful wife. May the dear Lord help us to see the error and get our names recorded in the Lamb’s book of life. But such can never be until we have passed the crucifixion of self, and with the dear Savior can say, “It is finished.” Then the veil will be rent from top to bottom and reveal to our hungry souls the holy of holies. Surely if the dear people in our churches knew what great things the Lord has for them in the land of Canaan, they would not hesitate to come out of the fallen Babylon, but they would reach out with Joshua of old and claim their rightful inheritance, as there is yet much land to be possessed in the land of Canaan. Surely the Lord has blessed us dearly wherever we have stood up and given the peo- the true Word of God, which shows us that people are not all satisfied with the whitewashed rascality and doings in the sects. I just got a copy of the GOSPEL TRUMPET here from Sister Shoffner. Praise God for such a paper, and would very much like to get it in Africa. I will, the Lord willing, send for it when I get there. And also let you know from time to time how the Lord is leading and providing for me there. Every laborer is worthy his wages no matter where he is working. May God bless you all is the prayer of your brother in Christ. I request your prayers that I may be ever watchful, and not grieve the Holy Spirit.

La Pas, Ind.

Dearly Beloved Saints: We can again report with complete victory in our souls that the God of Israel is moving the great deep of the town of La Pas, by his truth. We opened up the battle on the evening of the 14th ult. in the W. M. meeting house (capacity 500), which was well filled every evening for over four weeks. As God thundered forth the everlasting gospel of his own dear Son Jesus Christ, it shook the town from center to circumference, miles in the country. At the beginning of the meeting, prejudice and the powers of hell were so thick, it seemed it was almost impossible to wade through, and we had about come to the conclusion that God had anathematized this whole burnt-over field. This brought us on our knees often in earnest prayer before God, to enquire what steps to take. At last the answer came, “Hold on, I am with you.” This put us into active work night and day. Prejudice began to move; the truth of the Bible became the general talk of town. Souls began to move and come to Christ the altar, old and young who had never made any profession nor bowed a knee to Baal. The divine Lamb broke up the great deep of their hearts, and made lodgment of himself with all the peace of heaven in the hearts of mothers, sons and daughters. Up to this time about twenty have been added to the church. Most all have gone on to perfection and received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. “And many besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole [healed], and went on their way rejoicing.” Thank God for his wonderful saving and healing power in this wicked town. Sunday, 18th inst. we went to the Lake of the Woods, followed by a long procession of wagons and buggies, to witness a number of the babes buried with Christ in baptism. When the multitude had gather at the lake, we felt moved by the Spirit to speak from Jno. 10:27, which was listened to with great interest. We next moved to the water’s edge to witness the burial, which was a sight long to be remembered. “As angels rejoice over one lost soul that is found,” we, the saints of the living God, rejoiced the more to see mother, son and daughter coming forth out of the watery grave, praising the God of their salvation, followed by others. Many tears dropped from the eyes of the great concourse that watched the solemn scene. In the evening, in the large meeting house before five hundred, we commemorated the death and suffering of our blessed Lord by washing the saints’ feet and partaking of the Lord’s supper, which was a feast to our souls to see fifty participate in the act of obedience, which was convincing to the people that we are standing on the truth of the Bible. Since that time a dear soul who had been caged in Adventism, after seeing the Word fulfilled, came to Christ and acknowledged she was in the wrong place. And also another came who professed with the Reform Dunkards, and said she never received the change of heart. But the God that changes the whole man, sent them both on their way rejoicing in the one fold. Amen. The Lord willing, we will next open up the battle Friday evening, 30th inst. at 834 W. Day St., South Bend. Yours in the meekness of Christ,

J. A. Dillon and Co.

Dearly Beloved Saints of the Most High God, Greeting: Again we are happy and thankful to the Lord that we can sound the tidings of salvation. Bro. Smith, ourself and Co. have seen the good hand of God stretched forth to save souls at Henderson, Pa. We had desired to visit the church at that place but supposed we could not do so; but on going to Oil City and not finding the way open immediately, the Spirit bade us come over to Henderson We obeyed his voice and found he had gone before us and prepared the hearts of some to receive his grace, and they were soon ready to yield. Some of the children of the saints were saved. There were about nine adults converted to God, some of whom had never made a start before. There were also several children from eight to eleven years of age, gave their hearts to the Lord, and about all were able to testify before the congregation that Christ had pardoned their sins. There were also several sanctified wholly, and many others much advanced and benefitted. It was truly a joyful time in heaven, and in the hearts of God’s people on earth. The ordinances of God’s house were also observed by about forty happy children of God. On Friday, March 16, the rest of the company went on to Canton, O., and we tarried behind till over Sabbath; and thank God, a few more souls yielded to the Lord. This is one of the oldest places where the church of God was led into the present truth in this state. They are blessed with a nice large house of worship, and we have good hopes the Lord will add many souls to the number; for truly his Spirit is in them. But we were sorry to leave some behind who are not yet wholly sanctified to God. We hope they will press forward into the most holy place, for there only, “hid away with Christ in God,” can we stand triumphant in these perilous times. There were four baptized by dear Bro. Martz, who was present to help in the meeting. Others desire to follow Christ in the holy burial ere long. Dear Bro. Henry Beech and three others came over from Ohio, and were with us a few days. Dear Bro. Beech is called to the vineyard of the Lord; has preached the gospel somewhat, for years past. He dearly loves the present truth, is anointed for the work, and we think will be useful. He was ordained by the laying on of hands to the ministry of the gospel. Also Bro. J. W. Perrine of Hendersonville, Pa., who we believe is more fully saved in God than heretofore, received the laying on of hands in ordination to the office of elder, ignoring a former ordination received some, years ago by the hands of a preacher who has utterly fallen, and who, it is likely, was not righteously qualified at the time. Bro’s Beech and Perrine expect to hold a meeting near Atlantic. Pa. in about two weeks, and any one led of the Lord to go and assist, do so. Pray for them.

On Monday the 19th, we came to this city and found dear wife well and joyful in the Lord. We found Bro. Clayton on the Bethel boat, down sick through overwork, being at this time left alone with his family on the boat. We anointed him in the name of the Lord, and offered prayer in his behalf, and the Lord healed him for his name’s sake. Next day felt better than he had for weeks. Praise the Lord!

Bro. Riggle is still having success in Indiana Co., will be on board the boat in a few weeks. We will go on to Canton, O. to morrow or the next day. Amen. Brethren in the east who may wish to order song books from this place can still address orders here to wife, in care of Floating Bethel, Frankie E. Warner. Pray for us and the work of salvation at Canton, O., and address us there. Your brother, redeemed by the blood.

Mahaska, Kan., Mar. 18, 1894.

Dear Saints of God and Trumpet Readers: We are glad to report to you once more of victory in the name of Jesus. Our last report was from Center Point, Ia. The meeting at that place continued about two weeks with victory on the Lord’s side. There were about nine of ten consecrations. The meeting was held in a Christian meeting house and the best attention prevailed. The word of God swept away prejudice, and many were made to acknowledge the truth. God has a very precious church in that place. From there we went to Ollie, Ia., where the saints had erected a new meeting house which was dedicated to the living God.

The little flock there had been divided by permitting a man by the name of C. Z. Lindley (who had been exposed by others) to come in among them and feed them. This man came to the meeting and tried to make us believe that he was all right by his high profession and slimy way of trying to flatter us both privately and publicly. But God showed us at once that unless we did our duty with him and the church by exposing him, we would lose our soul. So, after much prayer we went to him but found that he would receive nothing from us nor acknowledge the wrongs he had committed, but declared that we were Warnerites, and a sect, and began to rail out against those that had been there before. After prayer to God we felt it our duty to publicly declare, out; freedom from him, and warn all of God’s children to have no fellowship with him. This, of course, stirred the carnality in him, and, taking the pulpit he railed out against the saints, God’s ministers, and the TRUMPET in a slanderous way. And several times after preaching, he would arise, step into the pulpit and refute what we had preached, thus showing not only the vileness of his heart, but his unmanly principles. But God’s eternal truth always prevails regardless of the stubbornness of bigoted man, and in the name of Jesus God’s true saints took a permanent stand for the right. A few, however, took a stand with Lindley, and after receiving the sop, went out. We believe much good was done in drawing the dividing lines. And now, in the name of Jesus we warn all of the saints against this man. You cannot receive him as a child of God and retain your salvation. Let all pray that he may see the delusion into which he has fallen, make his wrongs right and get back to God. Just how much good was done in that meeting, eternity alone will reveal.

From that place we went to Fremont, Ia., where we held a precious meeting for about a week which resulted in settling the church in the present truth. Bro. M. V. Alderman was chosen of the Lord, acknowledged by the church, and ordained by the laying on of hands to the office of elder. May God ever give him grace and wisdom to rightly divide the word of truth. Before leaving we held an ordinance meeting at John Abrams’ house. Bro. Fred Husted met us there and after our departure continued the work. God bless him abundantly, and also all the saints in Iowa.

Bro. Hechler of Hedrick was with us during the meeting at Ollie, and was much used of God there. He stood by us for the truth. God bless him, and use him much in his mission field. While at Center Point I began to be afflicted with neuralgia; not knowing how serious the trouble was, I did not take proper care of my body. Being engaged constantly in meetings and being often exposed to cold, my physical strength was exhausted. Being much in need of rest; we came to this place and have been very sick for two weeks. We have been fully trusting God as our physician and waiting patiently for him to heal me. Yesterday we sent for the elders and was healed by the power of God. To him be all the glory. We have just received a call to Illinois, and go at once. We feel sorry indeed that we cannot go to Nebraska, and answer our many calls for meetings, but God does all things well. Yours in Jesus,

W. J. and Luella Henry.

I want to give my testimony to the dear TRUMPET readers, how God has manifested himself in our family. We have one little boy; he is past ten; we had him vaccinated on Thanksgiving day, and the doctor said it poisoned his blood. He was sick ever since; he went blind, and his right leg was swollen very bad. The leg was drawn so crooked the child could not walk without his crutch, and he was very sick; he could not eat anything. The doctor said he would be blind for life time, and his leg would have to come off at the knee. The Lord warned us to take him to dear Bro. Speck, where he was holding meetings in the name of Jesus, and have him anointed, and he would heal our boy. Praise our God! Our God is able to heal all manner of diseases. Willie says, “Tell all children to trust in God and be made free children in Christ.” God bless his dear children everywhere.

Miss Mary Elizabeth Armstrong, was born Mar. 24, 1846. Was married to E. J. Bayles, July 4, 1871. Died Feb. 4, 1894. The funeral services were held at the Iowa Chapel, Feb. 6, conducted by Bro. Harvey. She leaves a husband and five children to mourn her loss, while our loss is her eternal gain. May the heavenly Father ever comfort and be with the bereaved ones. Sister Bayles had been paralyzed over six months and could not speak. She was not converted to God, and on hearing the Divine Healing book read, and also the scriptures, soon got faith in God. So several prayer meetings were held by God’s children, and she was happily converted before her death.

Sister Verlinah C. Morrison, wife of Bro. C. A. Morrison, was born in the state of New Jersey, June 30, 1845, and died in Dimondale, Mich. Mar. 20, 1894. Aged forty-eight years, eight months, and twenty days. Sister Morrison had lived in Dimondale twenty-six years, and had endeared herself to all those around her, by her kindness and love for all; always forgetting herself and doing all in her power for the happiness of others. The funeral services were held at the Baptist meeting house in Dimondale, where a very large assembly of sorrowing friends and neighbors gathered to pay their last respects to her whom they had loved in life. Sister Morrison died in the triumphs of a living faith, knowing that her work was done and well done. She leaves a husband and five children to mourn their loss. May God bless these sorrowing friends, and may all be prepared to see mother as she is in the happy beyond.

“Thy prayers and tears are gone before,
Thy work shall follow on,
And gather gems forever more
To glitter in thy crown.

The angels bore our mother home,
In shining garments fair,
And some bright day we hope to come
And join thee over there.”

A YOUNG DAUGHTER OF THE BABYLON FAMILY.

_____

ONE of the very last born of the daughters of the harlot family is a sect which started in Iowa, calling itself the “Church of Christ.” Several times parties have written to us asking about the young daughter, and about their paper called “The Sent of God,” sent of course by the god of Babylon. And having a communication before us now asking about their paper, we feel it our duty to inform our readers something of this child of confusion.

One George Weavers, who formerly was a F. M. we are informed, was chiefly its father. The new sect, as might be expected from the previous training of its founder, is greatly devoted to trances and chimerical visions, and all kinds of worked up mesmeric demonstrations. Very prominent among their liberties, the contend for the right to “dance, sing, shout, laugh, cry or fall under the power;” and all kinds of wild physical contortions, are courted as the supposed manifestation of the power of God.

A year ago last summer we met one of their preachers, we think it was their editor, at the Robinson, Kan. camp. Though that was a meeting truly joyful in glory, the poor man seemed very dead. The nervous delusion could not join on to the real spirit of God.

One year ago last February they held their quarterly council at Barada, Neb., from the report of which we learn the age of the child. Thus we read: “It was our second quarterly council of our sixth council year of the Church of Christ of Iowa, Missouri, Kansas and Neb.” Supposing that the first council gave it birth, it was then but six years old. And yet those preachers have the spiritual ignorance and confusion to call this very modern thing the “Church of Christ.” How can that be? Did Christ put off building his church until he could have the wisdom of Elder Geo. Weavers in this last end of the nineteenth century? or did Christ purchase and build his church at the beginning of this dispensation, as the scripture record shows, and now, in these last days, give a charter to Weavers, and the Worcesters, to found another? Then should he have revised his last will and testament and made it read, “There are two bodies, and faiths, even that which Christ gave at the beginning, and that which Weavers brought forth at the last.” But since the book still asserts that there is but “one body and one faith,” etc., it brings the body of Christ and the infant child of the Free Methodist daughter into direct rivalry. To which shall we give the preeminence? Behold, the Lord died to purchase and redeem that which is from the beginning. Who died for the modern? The former came down from God out of heaven; the latter was conceived and born in Iowa, which belongs to the province of earth. The former appeared “in due season;” the latter badly out of season. The former is written in heaven; the latter on earth. The former will be ready for roll call when the Captain of our salvation appears the second time; the latter answer to the roll call every three months. “A goodly number of ministers were present at the roll call,” says the quarterly record. The Chairman of the primitive church is he who, “after he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God.” But the “chairman” of the modern thing is announced as Geo. Weavers. In all the meetings of the saints the “Son makes us free,” “free indeed;” but in the new branch of babel, “all were given their freedom by our worthy chairman, Eld. George Weavers.” When men get salvation they are in the genuine church of which Christ is head. But hear them tell the disgusting mummeries in the process of entering this new concern. Giving the history of their sect at that place, they say: “When willing souls of Barada had believed on the Lord and were baptized — planted together in the likeness of his death — they arose to walk in newness of life, and were organized into the Church of Christ at Barada. When these brethren had completed their organization, they knocked at the door of the council of churches and were, on Feb. 3, received into that body.”

What a mess of sickening dark age ignorance is here shown! If people knew how utterly disgusting such superstition looks in the eyes of men and women who discern and abide in the body of Christ, they would be ashamed to publish it abroad. According to this round of machinery they were taken in no less than four times. When they believed in Jesus Christ he took them into his church. This the scriptures clearly teach. First, we are saved by faith, and by Christ Jesus the door, we enter his fold when saved. John 10:7, 9. In other words salvation is the mode of entrance into the church. Then their water baptism is interpreted as planting together. But planting is a putting into the soil of life. This is entrance number two. Next they “were organized into the Church of Christ at Barada;” and the fourth process was, the poor fellows had to come and “knock at the door of the Council of Churches, and were received into that body.” If, as the scriptures teach, faith and salvation inducts into the body of Christ, what is this other body into which they were subsequently taken? A mere sect body, a rival craft to the body of Christ. Whoever read of the apostles organizing anyone into the church of Christ at Jerusalem, Corinth, Ephesus, or anywhere else, and then after thus taken in by the apostles they came and knocked for admittance into the council of churches, and were received into that body. Surely these are works of supererogation, confusion and deception of the devil; and as foreign from the Bible as Babylon is from Jerusalem, and Belial from Christ. The New Testament only teaches one access into the church, and that is Christ. Salvation inducts into the body of Christ, the one church of God, and our local church relationship is simply the result of our place of dwelling. The church general includes all the saved in heaven and earth; the church local are all the saved in one town, city or locality. God’s church cannot be joined by man, Acts 5:13, nor its members taken into it by man. But “believers were the more added to the Lord.” Acts 5:14. And the Lord himself added them. Acts 2:47. God also builds and organizes his own church, setting the members every one of them into the body as it hath pleased him. 1 Cor. 12:18. But of all this we see nothing in the description of the Weavers sect. It is clearly a thing of their own, got up for their own glory; like the tower of Babel, built “to make us a name.” Instead of God or Christ adding to it, they speak of men “identifying themselves” with their half-demented proselyting craft. That it is a member of the sisterhood of sects, we can prove from their own organ. In the report of the council alluded to we read: “We were blest with the accession of three sister churches during the council, which was a source of great joy.” So out of their own mouth we judge them as belonging to the harlot family. For God’s church has nosisters: “She is the only one of her mother.” We warn every child of God to keep out of and separate from this young child of deception.

Dear Children of God: I feel much-impressed to write and give a note of warning concerning the subject of making compromise with falsehood. I have been much pained to see some who claim to be walking in the whole truth, compromise with error in order to avoid the wrath of sectism, and to gain the good will of those who, if the whole truth was preached, would fight against it. Hear the Lord:

“The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the Lord.” Jer. 23:28.

“Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them a warning from me.” Ezek. 3:17.

“To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” Isa. 8:20.

“If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” 1 Pet. 4:11.

The above, together with the whole word, declares that to glorify God we must faithfully teach the word just as he gives it. “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book. And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” Rev. 22:18, 19.

No matter how the devil may rage or wicked men oppose, we must tell the whole truth in the spirit of Christ. Love to souls will not cause us to sacrifice part of God’s word. This love comes not of God. To follow this course means to lose our own souls and drag them that hear us down to ruin with us. Read 1 Tim. 4:16.

We met one person who told us that God had given him so much heavenly wisdom that he saw it to the glory of God to hold meetings and get souls saved, and then leave them without telling them anything definite about sectism, and let them look to God to guide them. He referred to cases in which a goodly number of souls had been saved; but care had been taken not to say anything directly against sectism, and they all drifted into the sects, and as the case always is in Babylon, they soon fell into wrangling among themselves, and the whole business is now bursted up. He thought that the corruption of sectism after they had been into it, would be more convincing proof of its sin than anything that could have been taught them in the meeting.

Surely God’s way of saving sinners is not to let them get so deep in sin that they will get disgusted with it; surely God does not want his people to go into division and drink so deep of its corruptions that they will lose their salvation, in order to learn that division is sinful. This man said he did not come out plain about sect division, and when some one became anxious to know the truth in regard to this matter and asked him questions concerning it, he had to evade the point and give no definite answer, in order not to get the people who were in sectism aroused to opposition. He said he thought it best sometimes to teach two or three years in a place before he came out plain on this, for by this means he would have almost the whole country ready to take the truth. Surely anyone enlightened with the Holy Spirit can not fail to see that the word of God plainly teaches that instead of being in league with the people of God, the mass of professors will be directly opposed to them. He said that to preach full salvation and say nothing about sectism, would of itself be a death blow to division. Beloved, to preach full salvation is to preach against sectism. Full salvation which purifies the soul, also destroys division and brings God’s people together. While this man avoided speaking of sectism, he laid great stress on the fact that we are all one in Christ, and urged all the professed people of God to come together and worship together, thus leaving the door open for all kinds of false and delusive spirits to come in under the cloak of profession, and be in fellowship with the people of God, bringing with them all kinds of false doctrines. This is just what Babylon is to day teaching, and if we in the evening light do not raise the standard above this, we are not one whit above the fallen religions of sectism. We necessarily have fellowship with all the saved in or out of sectism, and we must bear with those who have less light than we, and do all we can to raise them to the standard of the gospel; but when light is set before them and they rebel, we can do nothing more than the word says. See Tit. 3:9, 10; Rom. 16:17; 2 Thess. 3:6.

We visited a place where the whole gospel had been preached for several years, and sect professors had heard and rejected the truth, and would not come out generally to hear it taught. This man came in and the first thing he did was to go into a sect meeting where the minister was so prejudiced that he would not give him any chance to preach the Word, yet he went ahead and worked at the altar, and got souls to profess salvation, and as fast as they claimed salvation, the sect preacher took them into the sect. Then when he begun meeting he said he did not dare to come down to real teaching, but only “play around the out edges of the truth.” This he did to win the confidence of the people.

Beloved, this is written in love, and only because I have seen the evil effect which follows such a course. Let us use heavenly wisdom; speak at the right time, and in the right manner; but for the sake of our blessed. Lord and the souls he died to save, let us declare the whole counsel of God. Acts 20:20, 27. Deal kindly with the people, show them that you are with them to do them good. But if God’s truth put forth in love will not win them, beware that we do not sin against God by sacrificing his Word to please the people. Your brother under the blood, and abiding in the truth,

R. M. Haynes.

Dear Trumpet Readers: I am saved with an everlasting salvation, that saves from all sin. Glory to God! I am out on the highway of holiness. Praise the Lord! I am going through great tribulations here in these perilous times, with no one to help me but my Father in heaven. Cannot some one come here filled with the Holy Ghost and preach the pure Word? Pray for me, dear ones, that I may be kept by power divine. Your brother, saved and sanctified,

Dear Brethren: I am saved and kept from sin by the grace of God. But my faith is weak some times, and I am wonderfully tempted at times. I want you all to pray for me that my faith may be increased, and that I may have grace to overcome all temptations, and keep fully saved until the end. We have a small assembly at this place, the most of us young converts, and need some good strong minister of the gospel to come to this place and preach the whole word of God. Cannot some one come. Yours in Jesus’ love,

John R. Davison.

Dear Saints: God bless you all. I am still praising God for salvation. I do know that Jesus dwells within my heart, and floods this earthen vessel with glory from the throne. Praise his holy name! Oh how it melts my heart when I think how much the dear Savior bore for us! By his stripes we are healed. Oh dear ones, let us live low at his feet and learn of him, for he is meek and lowly in heart. If their ever was a time when the children of God need to watch and pray it is now, for the devil is raging and foaming against the true children of God. Dear ones, I ask you all in the name and love of Jesus to pray for me, that God will heal my body, if it be his blessed will. I am afflicted in so many ways, but I do know that God can make me every whit whole. I am not trusting in earthly help, but in the living God. I have a deep amen to his will in all things. Bless the Lord, O my soul, who forgiveth all thine iniquities, who healeth all thy diseases. From your sister, saved and sanctified,

Rose Wilcox.

Dear Saints: This morning finds me saved and sanctified. God is my refuge, and I realize he has shown me the way of salvation. I feel that I am a danghter of a rich king, rich in love and mercy. No other way pays so well as to live the life of a Christian. I did not start out to serve God for just a short time, but I expect to end life’s journey in that sweet haven of rest. My highest ambition in this world is to do my Master’s will. I do praise his name that I ever found the wav to the foot of the cross, where he pardoned all my sins. I realize it does mean something in these days to live a real Bible salvation. I am poor in this world’s goods, but so rich in the grace of God that I know he will make up in love. I am contented and satisfied, and it is impossible to live it unless we enjoy it from the bottom of our hearts. Praise his name! It will have to be pure gold that stands the judgment test. May God help me as never before, to be true. There is a perfect submission in my heart to all the will of God. Pray for me. Your sister saved and kept,

Catharine Kunkle.

Dear Trumpet Readers: I feel led to testify that I am saved, sanctified and kept by the power of God. I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth. Have peace through our Lord Jesus Christ. Rom. 5:3, 6. By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand and rejoice in the hope and glory of God. Rom. 3:24. Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. Rom. 5:9. Much more being justified by his blood we shall be saved from wrath through him, and I realize in my soul that I have the fruit of the Spirit, according to Gal. 5:22, 23, against which there is no law. I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me. I earnestly desire the prayers of the saints for the church in Augusta, Ga. From your sister, saved and sanctified, washed in the blood of the Lamb,

Mamie Mitchel.

Dear Saints of God: I send my testimony to let you know that I am saved and out of the devil’s hands, and in the true church once more. Praise the dear Lord for salvation full and free! I never can thank the dear Lord enough for showing me my condition. About seven years ago the dear Lord saved me from all my sins and sanctified my soul, and I felt the melting love of God. What great peace and joy I had, and every body knew it, because I did not quench the Spirit. I enjoyed full salvation for a time, but through neglect of duty and getting puffed up by the devil, I lost the sweet grace and glory of God out of my soul, and then I had nothing but a profession. I did not go to meeting as I should, would rather be at home. I was in that condition until last week, when the Lord showed me that I was a sinner, and if I did not repent I would be lost forever. I went to examining myself and found that I was lost. I felt so bad that I could hardly work. But I took my case to the dear Lord, got in earnest about the matter, and found the dear Lord in the pardon of all my sins. Praise his dear name! And then I knew what the will of God was. and presented my body a living sacrifice to God, and he sanctified my nature once more. Praise the dear Lord for salvation full and complete! I am now on the line of humility in all I say or do, to please the dear Lord. And I humbly ask pardon of all the dear saints and every one that I have accused wrongfully. I am saved again and expect to stay saved. I pray God to show all that are deceived as I was, their condition, that they may get to God and get salvation. Pray for me. Your saved brother,

Henry Sweet.
