AN EVENING REVERY.

_____

The golden son like a ball of fire
Had sunk quite out of sight,
Still shooting back its crimson rays,
As if to say good night.

I watched it till the last faint beams
Had bid farewell to day;
And as I turned I seem to hear
A sweet voice to me say:

A lesson learn from the golden orb
That thou hast watched to-night;
And so live that when thy course is done
Thy sunset will be bright.

Thu words were few, the meaning great;
I pondered on them long.
The stars came twinkling one by one.
And shadows deepened round.

I thought as I gazed upon the stars —
These lights of heavenly birth,
Sure the “heavens declare the glory of God,
And the firmament sheweth his handiwork.”

And as I mused again I heard
The same sweet, whispering sound:
So live that stars as bright as these
May glitter in thy crown.

Just then the moon arose, and shed
O’er earth her silvery light,
Piercing the gloom with its pale, soft beams,
And lightened up the night.

I heard once more that gentle voice:
My child, let thy light so shine
That some poor lost weary struggling one,
May the path of duty find.

Those words so full of meaning found.
A lodging in my heart;
The lesson I from them have learned
Will never from me depart.

For wisdom, no, nor art of man
That ever walked upon the sod,
Can rear things half so beautiful
As those that are made by God.

And sines I love this nature’s God,
And the narrow way is my choice,
All things that, by him alone are made.
To me they have a voice.

Go forth with me and from nature learn
These lessons of priceless worth;
And profit well, for you soon must die;
For man was not made for earth

A CITIZEN AND A MOVER.

_____

PART II.

M. Citizen: how are you this morning?

C. I am well, soul and body, sanctified by a second work of grace. How is the Mover?

M. Oh, I feel like I am saved by the blood this morning. And I have brought my Bible along, but before I ripen it, I want to ask you if you are willing to receive light?

C. That depends somewhat on what kind of light it is. If it is transformed light. 2 Cor. 11:14, or darkless for light. Isa. 5:20. I will not receive it. But light from God. I am walking in the light as he is in the light, and have fellowship with all God’s saints, and the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses me from all sin.

M. I have been receiving wonderful light on the Word, and I would like to help you out of your second work heresy.

C. I have the second work and you have the heresy: but your heresy will not help me out; unless I partake of ..t; and that I do not mean to do.

M. You are somewhat mistaken in ..he definition of terms, you use “grace” ..nd “work of grace,” interchangeably. That is misleading.

C. I think I understand you. You ..ave found out your Bible tells us ..bout a second grace, and if “grace” ..nd “work of grace” are used interchangeably it would be a“second work of grace,” and that does not lead out the way you are going, so you think that is misleading. But do you not ..each that we are saved by grace, ..nd that this salvation is the gift of God? — Eph. 2:8.

M. Certainly I teach that.

C. Grace is a gift. See Ps. 84:11, ..nd salvation is a gift, Eph. 2:8, or work of grace. Hence “grace” and … work of grace” can be used interсhangeably and not mislead any one.

M. I agree that salvation is a work ..f grace, not two works of grace.

C. True salvation from sins, coetaneous with regeneration is a work of grace. And salvation from the inherited sin coetaneous with the baptism of the Holy Ghost is also a work of grace. This is clearly taught in Rom. 5:1-5. “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, etc. This also grace is the grace of sanctification. The word “also” includes a previous grace implied by verse 1, which is the grace of justification.

M. But I cannot see the two works.

C. I will show you the two works presently. “But according to his mercy he saved us by the washing of regeneration (one work) and the renewing of the Holy Ghost” (second work). — Titus 3:5. You have seen the grace, and the also grace or in other words “grace for grace,” (KING JAMES’ TRANSLATION) “grace upon grace,” (EMPHATIC DIAGLOTT). — Jno. 1:16. Now put them all together and you have two works of grace, which is the condensed doctrinal, truth found in Rom. 5:1-5; Tit. 3:5; Jno. 1:16; 2 Cor. 1:15.

M. I have been getting light on 2 Cor. 1:15, so I will read it and explain. “And in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that ye might have a second benefit,” or grace. Paul had been there and preached a long time, and the Corrinthians had received a benefit, but afterward many fell from grace and the apostle wanted to go a second time that they might receive a second benefit, or grace.

C. That appears very plausible, but I am glad you brought your Bible. Now read 13:1, of the same epistle: “This is the third time I am coming to you. Paul spoils your explanation and you will have to try it again. But you had better acknowledge that your light on 2 Cor. 1:15, was not rom God. I shall refer you to what the apostle affirms, respecting the spiritual condition of the Corinthian brethren at the writing of this second epistle. See chap. 7:9-11. Consequently they were ready for the second grace, that involves the cleansing to which he exhorts them in chap. 7:1.

M. I do not see how you can teach a cleansing as a second work after Christ says, “Now are ye clean through the word that I have spoken to you.” Jno. 15:3. Impossible.

C. You must acknowledge that the disciples were not yet sanctified at the time the above language was uttered, because Christ had not yet prayed for their sanctification. See Jno. 17:1-23, and they had not yet received the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Jno. 7:39 and Acts 2:1-4. Now let us hear Peter tell us whether or no, there was a cleansing or purifying took place subsequent to the words “Now are ye clean.” — Jno. 15:3. “And God which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did us, and put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. — Acts. 15:8, 9. Notice that the heart was purified coetaneous with the gift or baptism by the Holy Ghost. And there was no difference between us (the apostles and disciples, the first recipients of the Holy Ghost at Pentecost) and them (the household of Cornelius, the first recipients of the Holy Ghost from among the Gentiles). Each alike attained to heart purity and the gift of the Holy Ghost, both being involved in the grace of sanctification, subsequent to the experience referred to by the words, Now ye are clean. — Jno. 15:3.

M. What did Christ mean by, “Now ye are clean?”

C. He meant he had washed us from our sins in his own blood. Rev. 1:5. He meant, though your sins were as scarlet they are as white as snow. Isa. 1:18. He meant, As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. — Ps. 103:12. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners. — Jas. 4:8. He meant, “Now are ye clean.”

M. But I know when God pardoned me he gave me a pure heart.

C. Then you purified your heart, you sinner. That is not the way my Bible reads. My Bible says, Cleanse your hands, ye sinners, and purify your hearts, ye doubleminded. — Jas. 4:8.

M. Ah, ha! doubleminded Christians, are they?

C. A sinner has only one mind, and that is a mind to disobey God. And a sanctified person has only one mind, and that is the mind of Christ. Hence, the doubleminded must mean those who have both the carnal mind and the Christ mind. See Gal. 5:17. Consequently the exhortation to “purify your hearts, ye doubleminded,” which work was accomplished for the disciples at pentecost. Acts 15:8, 9.

M. Yes; but did not God say, “A new heart also will I give you?” Was this new heart full of sin and in need of cleansing? Shame on such confusion!

C. No; certainly the new heart is not full of sin to be cleansed out. The sin to be cleansed out did not come with the new heart, but came by Adamic inheritance; and more than that the heart is not said to be new before it is purified. The new heart and the pure heart are one. And after the baptism of the Holy Ghost they were all of one heart; that is, they were all pure. You turn to your Bible and read Ezek. 36:25-30, and you can readily see it is treating on full salvation, complete cleansing, etc.

M. “Full salvation!” That is another one of your unscriptural terms. I wish you would confine yourself to Bible terms.

C. I think you do not study your Bible very careful or you would know that “full salvation” is purely biblical. Please examine 1 Thess. 5:23: — And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly [entirely]. Is not that “full salvation?”

M. Yes; but if a person is saved he is saved wholly. And if he is not wholly saved he is not saved at all.

C. Mr. M., your argument is untrue. According to your logic a young man who has been going to school for a number of years has no education at all because he has not finished his last course. And to say a person has no salvation at all because he is not sanctified wholly is ridiculous in the extreme. A person may be saved from actual transgressions (spiritually dead) into spiritual life and still not be saved from sin inherited (carnal mind).

M. I object to any such doctrine as that. That is equal to saying that God does his work by the halves, charging God with folly.

C. You get in too much of a hurry with your conclusions. But you are a mover; that accounts for that. God took the children of Israel from Egypt to Canaan; but they did not cross Jordan at the same time they crossed the Red Sea. Was God doing his work by the halves then? If not could he not lead his children now from sin to full salvation and not sanctify them when he converted them, and still not be doing his work by the halves? Remember God did a whole work when he led the Israelites across the Red Sea. And he did another whole work when he took them across Jordan. But if we were speaking of the entire trip as a whole from Egypt to Canaan we would call it a work. So it is with justification and sanctification. Justification is a whole work, and sanctification is a whole work; and they are not coetaneous. But in speaking of the whole trip from sin to full salvation we would call it a work, or work of grace. Now, Mr. Mover, I hope you can fully understand the two works of grace, also the one work.

M. I will study over it. Good day, sir.

C. Good day. Call again.

The Mover is quite shrewd, but he cannot measure up with his father the devil yet. I rebuked the devil, but I have not rebuked the Mover.

__________

A Sanctified Heart.

_____

I am led of God to write some on this subject. I am enjoying this blessed experience of sanctification, and it is a blessed way to travel, and the only way to heaven, for “without holiness no man shall see the Lord.” “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.” “Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently.” “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth good things.” “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.”

There are some to day that are professing holiness and who stand up and deny that God can take away the carnal mind. Oh, what a shame and disgrace to dishonor God by denying his word; for the Word says: “To be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually mind is life and peace.” And again he says, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ.” Christ will not dwell in an unholy place. We do not gather figs of thistles. Let us draw near to God with a true heart, in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.” — Heb. 10:22.

“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering, for he is faithful that promised.”

If we do our part, the Lord will do his. Let us not deny God but look at ourself, and see if we have measured up to God’s word.

A saved sister, down under the blood, and kept.

TESTIMONIES.

Thy Testimonies are Wonderful.
Psa. 119:129.

Langdon, Mo.

Dear Saints: I feel led to write my testimony this evening. I am praising the Lord for a full and free salvation that saves from all sin. He forgave my sins two years ago, and three days after he sanctified me wholly. Glory to God for his love to me. The Lord has healed my little boy, and I can praise him for his healing power. Glory to his name. Pray for me that I may be faithful.

Yours in Christ,

S. A. Endicott.

Willshire, Ohio.

Dear Saints: I feel it would be to the glory of God to tell of his goodness to me. I realize that Jesus saves me and keeps me from all sin. It is wonderful what Jesus can do for us. He does more for me than I ask him to do. Brethren let us work more earnestly for the Lord. I do praise the Lord for salvation. I ask the prayers of all of God’s people that I be kept low and humble down at the feet of Jesus.

Your brother, saved in Jesus,

John Bloyer.

West Liberty, Ohio.

Dear Saints: I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and fortress: my God; in him will I trust. I do praise the Lord this morning for salvation that saves me from all sin. I am kept by the mighty power of God to do his will at all times. I love my Redeemer and Savior because he first loved me. He gave his life for me and why should I not love him. O I praise his name continually. I love to obey all his commandments. It makes me feel so happy. Jesus says, If ye know these things happy are ye if ye do them. The majority of the people live as if they think they can be a child of God by serving him one day and the devil the next. But may the Lord open their blinded eyes to see better. We cannot serve two masters. Praise the Lord for that. I have chosen the Lord to be my Master and by his grace I will serve him while I live. The Lord promised us sufficient grace each day to overcome all trials and temptations. He also commands us to watch and pray lest we enter into temptation. Praise the Lord! I do love to read the Trumpet. It is food to my soul. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

Merrill, Mich.

Dear Brethren: I am still trusting God and doing his will, as he makes it known to me. Oh how I do thank him for the way he has kept and led me during the past year. A year ago last March I was taken down with the measles and called on God to heal me, and the elders laid on hands on me, but I still grew worse so that no one thought I could live but a short time. I never for a moment doubted but that God was able to heal me but still I did not feel that the work of healing was done and I felt willing to live or die just as God willed but as I was so sick and was cared for mostly by unsaved persons, I was at last persuaded to send for a doctor, after I had suffered about ten days. Well dear ones God in his mercy forgave me for yielding to the persuasion of the unsaved, and raised me from that sickness. Since then I have wondered why I was not healed immediately as I had been other times, and asked God to show me what I had done that I did not have the faith, and get healed at that time, and a short time ago while in prayer about it, these words came to me, Walk by faith and not by sight, and God showed me that I had not obeyed his word which says, when you pray to God for anything believe that you receive them, and you shall have them. But instead of that I had expected to feel better, and then believe, which I can see now, was not God’s will. Well I praise God for it all, for I have learned a lesson that I never shall forget, and have been led closer to God than ever before. Oh glory to his precious name for his wonderful goodness to me! Dear ones, let us live for God, and obey his word no matter what comes upon us. Pray for me that I may be kept faithful to the end.

Your sister in Christ,

Julia Fales.

DIVINE HEALING
—OF—
SOUL AND BODY.

A New Book,
—by—
E. E. BYRUM.

_____

This book is just fresh from the author’s pen, and a glance at the contents is enough to convince any one of its interest and value to those seeking a more thorough khowledge of the Divine Being, and his dealings with people at the present time, as well as in days past.

The first part of the book very plainly marks out the way from sin unto full salvation, according to the teaching of the sacred word.

It presents the gospel truth in such a way as to throw a gleam of light into the pathway of the sinner, and enable him to see that there is hope beyond, through the mercies of a blessed Redeemer.

The BELIEVER is led to see the beauties of full salvation, and the joys in a life of Christian perfection.

THE HEALING OF THE BODY

constitutes the second part of the book. This consists of twenty-six chapters on doctrinal subjects, exposing and overthrowing false ideas and theories concerning the healing power in these last days, showing when, how, and under what circumstances and conditions God heals the sick and afflicted at the present time.

It gives a history and testimonies of healing from the time of Abraham, through the different ages, up to the present time.

The third part of the book consists of the

WITNESSES OF TO DAY.

These are wonderful testimonies of persons who have been healed within the last few years by divine power; such as being instantly restored to sight after having been blind for years; the lame throw away their crutches; broken bones are instantly healed; invalids who have suffered for years immediately arise and walk, after the prayer of faith is offered, etc. The author is personally acquainted, with nearly all the parties who have herein given their testimonies, and gives their names and addresses in the book, so that persons doubting the truthfulness of the same can write to the parties themselves.

It will be a precious volume to those who are afflicted in either soul or body. The chapters on faith, and also other subjects, will strengthen the faith of the reader, and aid in a closer walk with Him who is the “giver of every good and perfect gift.”

It contains 248 good-sized pages; good, plain print, on heavy paper. Neatly bound in cloth, $ .75. Library (half morocco), marble edge, $1.10. Send two cent stamp for special terms to agents. Address,

Several of the Good Way, or Fort Scott creed people, have come out straight for God here. Two were baptized last Sunday, and others expect to follow the Lord soon in his ordinance.”

FLOATING BETHEL.

We are still trusting the Lord for the means to carry the blessed evening light by water. There have been about two hundred and fifty dollars given. Two hundred and fifty are needed before we can buy the boat and commence the work of remodeling the cabin. The roof is to be raised and the meeting house department is to be widened.

Brother and Sister Patchen of Welland, Ont., offer their house and lot for sale, the proceeds to go to the Floating Bethel. The house is in good repair and inside the incorporation, and a good tenant in the house.

Who wants double interest on their money? 2 Cor. 9: 11.

In a few weeks we expect to start on our trip south holding a few meetings in Pa. Will the saints at Chaplainville, Franklin, Hend ersonville, and elsewhere address me at once.

We expect to remain in Pa., for the camp meeting.

WICHITA, KANSAS CAMP MEETING.

Bro. and Sister A. Markwell make the following appeal respecting a camp meeting at the above place.

“There are between twenty-five and thirty thousand people here, and very few have heard the gospel in its purity, There is a sectarian holiness organization here, and some of them we think are sanctified, and walking in all the light they have. One of their evangelists stated publicly that “The ultimate result of holiness would be the destruction of all sectism.” But they really mean the destruction of all sectism but M. E.ism, on account of which some of them of other sects are jealous. And some

Page 3

of them have come out of their sect. Now we have one of the best places here to hold a true holiness Camp meeting. There are ten railroads, running in different directions. We also have what is called the Riverside Park, owned by the street car company, and it is so located that people can come to it in street cars from all parts of the city. This grove we can get free of cost, as the company make their money hauling the people to and from the place. Tents can be rented at $2.00 each and erected on the ground. Doubtless a tabernacle can be procured for the meeting. If the Lord will we should like to have such a meeting, and appeal to all the churches round about in Kan. to write to us and let us know if you are willing to come and tent, and do what you can to bear expenses. Yea, even make some sacrifice for Christ’s sake, and the salvation of souls. It would be a glorious feast, and we believe do much good. Rates on the R. R. can be secured. Now brethren let us hear from you at once as to whether you are willing to take hold of this good work.

A. Markwell,

I would say if you go ahead with this meeting, Bro. Lundy and myself and doubtless others will go there from the Robinson camp meeting, if the time is set for this meeting right after that one.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

__________

Grand Junction C. M.

This glorious and very precious convocation of the saints of the Most High God, has come and gone. It has gone on record in heaven, and its fruits will there be on exhibition through all eternity. With its close there has gone forth a wave of divine glory that shall roll on in every direction to the utmost bounds of time. Much of interest might be written concerning it, but for want of time and space we can only give a few hurried thoughts.

Many of God’s faithful ones labored hard, on the ground and buildings, some for a couple of months, others for some weeks, and yet these labors, with reinforcements were carried into a few days of the meeting, until all was arranged. Many more saints were assembled at this meeting than ever before in the evening light. It is thought that all of five hundred saints were in attendance on the Lord’s day. The fellowship and unity was heavenly and glorious. The order was very good. The altars were pretty well filled at about every invitation, and scores of souls were saved daily, both born of God and sanctified wholly, and many shouts of praise ascended into the ears of God. Doubtless over fifty persons were healed of various diseases by the power of God. Forty- five happy children of God were baptized in the lake close by. On Monday evening we observed the ordinances of God’s house. About two- hundred were present to participate. The occasion was very sacred and glorious. O bless the name of Jesus Twelve states and Canada were represented in the meeting. Louisville, Ky., Chicago, Denver and Detroit were represented. Some twenty-nine preachers of the gospel were present from various states. O how pure and sacred the bond of love that bound all the holy people in one “new lump.” But only a few of the heavenly host yet linger behind. God bless all the holy brethren and sisters. O how our hearts are knit together in love!

Dear Brethren: We still report victory for King Jesus. The meeting at St. Petersburg was delayed a few days over the appointed time because all things were not in readiness for us at Fertigs when we went there, which detained us there a little longer. We are sorry that a few came to St. Petersburg expecting us there at the appointed time. We humbly ask pardon of such as were disappointed from the above reason. The meeting there was a feast to our souls. There were also several cases of divine healing according to Jas. 5:14- 16. One brother was indeed healed of Asthma which he had in a severe form for about thirty-three years. The meeting closed with a precious ordinance service. We also held meeting near Turkey City and other places where God met with his children in power.

Granby, Mo., June 17, 1892:

Dear Saints of God: The Lord bless you all is my prayer. May we all continue to lift our hearts in grateful praise to God our Father for his goodness to His little ones. Since our last report we have visited several of the churches with good result. We were at Pierce City a few days. The Lord sealed the work and gave four dear souls for our hire. We returned to Carthage, and met Bro. Lundy of Reeds, Mo. The first Sunday there were five professions. Met with the church at the Chapel last Sabbath. The saints at that place are indeed a praise in the earth; there were about sixty testimonies to entire sanctification. Meeting closed at Neosho yesterday. God wonderfully blessed at that place in laying judgment to the line and righteousness to the plummet, and the waters of God’s truth uncovered many of the enemy’s hiding places. The devil was getting more glory out of some of their testimonies than God was. Besides setting professors aright, the Lord wonderfully saved two sinners. God bless the little church at Neosho. The Lord willing we expect to return to Pierce City this evening. Pray for us and the cause.

To all the Saints of God: The Lord bless you all with the fullness of his love. As I am in the gospel field all of the time, I wish to give in a small report to the glory of God. I visited the saints at Langdon, Mo., on last Sabbath and it pleased our Father to give us a glorious meeting. And truly we did sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. After the services at eleven o’clock, we went to the Mo. river in the name of Jesus our King, and three precious souls were buried with Christ in baptism, and are now raised up to walk with him fin newness of life. May the Lord ever keep them by his power, from sin, that they may serve him in Spirit and in truth. I went from Langdon, Mo., to Auburn, Neb., where I met with our beloved brother M. M. Stover, and other field workers who are laboring for the Lord in behalf of the lost. The work is prospering here at this place Souls are being saved. Babylon is raging, but all glory be to God, we can shout as her city doth burn, for we have the victory over the beast and his image. Amen.

Yours on the gospel altar, saved and sanctified wholly,

A. A. Kinzie.

Dear Saints: We are happy to greet you all once more in the name of Jesus. We are praising God for perfect salvation and victory in our souls and for the peace that flows like a river. Bless the Lord! My soul is all on fire for God, and my heart’s desire is to rescue the perishing souls that are so thick around us. Since we left our home at Carthage, Mo. we have preached the word at Freeman, Mo. and at Davis City, Ia. The weather was very unfavorable at both places and the cause is cursed at Freeman, Mo. with an anti-ordinance element. How can people be so blind! In either of the above mentioned places we could not see much results of our labor but have the promise, “Forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” We came to this place Saturday; preached once Sunday and expect to commence meetings Tuesday night and continue as long as the Lord wills. We ask all the dear ones to pray for us that God may use us to the salvation of many souls. Pray that God’s power may be manifest here and the blessed evening light shine forth.

Your humble brother and sister on the gospel altar,

Otto & Lillian M. Bolds.

Frisco, Ark. June 8, 1892.

Dear Saints: I believe it would be to the glory of God to tell you what the Lord has been doing in these parts. I came to this place May 27 and commenced meeting in the name of Jesus. The church here had got into a dark place, but I do praise God, that I have never found more honest souls than I found here. They were ready to measure up to the word, and as soon as they saw what was the matter, they confessed their faults, and God did wonderfully bless them, and praise God, some that had gone off in the Good Way sect, came out straight for God, and his whole word. Bro. Joseph Waddell that was once a power in the hands of God was carried off by the Good Way ism about two years ago but the good Lord has brought him back again. The Lord did wonderfully bless our meetings. I do bless the Lord for the sweet peace in our souls, has filled us with his pure love so we can work with all kinds of crookedness and keep real sweet in our souls. Our meeting closed last night, and we went to the water to day, and there were four buried with Christ in baptism. We commence meeting about six miles from here to morrow night. Let all the saints pray for us that God may keep us where he can use us all to his glory. My son Ostis Wilson, is with us at the present time, and we expect to be together for awhile if the dear Lord wills. May God bless all his little ones everywhere and keep his workers so sweet that they prove to all they meet that Jesus dwells within. Praise the dear Lamb of God for what he has done for the children of men!

Dear workers for the Lord, I want to say it is very necessary that we as workers keep very humble, for I find that God can use us to his glory if we will keep that sweet spirit.

Your brother.

W. M. Wilson.

Phoenix, A. T., June 7, 1892.

To all the Saints of God: Mercy and grace be multiplied. We reports glorious victory in Phoenix.

The word of God has gone forth unto victory. The walls of Babylon are crumbling down to the earth in this city, and God is raising up his own church here, and also many friends to the truth. They testify that it is the first time that the gospel has been preached in this city, although shoddy holiness has been preached, but not a whole gospel. Sister Bunch who has been afflicted for 8 years was given up by all doctors, and her husband has spent all his property in traveling, that her health might be restored; but all failed. When I saw her sickness my soul was moved, and God gave the witness that it was his will to heal her for his glory. Hands were laid on and the fire came down from heaven and the work was done. She is now filled with the Holy Ghost. Oh my soul is praising God this day, for such a blessing; we are all so happy. Every time we meet, the shouts of victory go up to God. Also others have been healed. The young preacher from Mexico was with us in the meeting. The Lord did wonderfully bless him. God has called this young man to the ministry, and filled him with power. Also brother Alexandra of Mesa City, was at the meeting. He received the baptism of power last night, and went home this morning very happy. Brother and Sister Pine were at the meeting, from Mesa City. We had baptizing Sunday afternoon and ordinance meeting last evening. At the end of the meeting the altar was filled with seekers, and every one got the victory. The work is moving on. We expected to close meeting last night, but God would not permit us to do so. But our ticket to Cal. is limited and we must hasten on. We send our tabernacle back to Brother W. N. Smith, in Denver. God bless the work there. I would say to any of the workers coming west, that you must have a tabernacle. The saints here and at Mesa City would love to see Brother Warner come this way. You will find help here. God bless dear Brother Smith and the dear ones who have been so kind to us. It is like parting with those we have known all our lives. God bless Brother and Sister Pine. God has sent these dear ones to this distant land, to open the way for the evening light. We want to hear from the saints in California. Our address will be Visalia, Cal. We believe God is going to bless this trip to the west. Your brother filled with the Holy Ghost.

LATER.

Visalia, Cal., June 11, 1892.

We are now in California. We find the work of God moving right along; souls are coming to God. Our heart is made to rejoice to see how the work has advanced since last fall. God is leading out the honest souls here. We are all well, and ready for the battle. Pray for us. Your brother saved to uttermost,

James Willis.

HEALTH DEPARTMENT.

A GOOD CHEAP MEAL.

_____

I am glad the Lord has put it in your hearts to give to the saints, and others, this much needed column. It is a long felt want, and all should heed its timely advice as far as practical with each, On the NUTRITIVE QUALITY of the blood depends all repairs of broken down tissue, whether from accidents, surgery or disease, and the nutritive quality of the blood is best where the DIGESTION, ASSIMILATION, ELIMINATION, are normal. True God’s mercy can and does save soul and body. Praise God. But it is our duty to conform to the health laws and. not presume on God’s mercy. A weak man might not be able to throw a heavy load into or off of a train — and do his utmost-while a strong baggage master would handle it with perfect ease. No more can poor blood, — that has been imposed on by bad habits and diet for months and years, come to our rescue when accident, surgery, or disease demand help. No clog of the system will occur if we are prudent; and disease, (except contagions and infections) can find no lodging where there is no clog, because the Bioplasms are either destroyed, or passed out at once; and even infections are comparatively harmless where the nutritive quality of the blood is normal. While every condition that would agree with one, might not suit every body, yet one general rule may be said to be applicable to all; viz., eat fruit and vegetable diet; and attend to bathing, think this will never miss as a health rule.

Here is a good nutritive cheap diet.

Take a pint of clean wheat, dry it in a pan in the oven, (do not brown or scorch,) when cool grind it in a coffee mill very coarse. — Put this into a crock; a double stew kettle is excellent. Pour on three quarts of water. Set this crock into a pot of water, and boil five hours (add a little salt); do not let it boil dry. When the wheat is cool, eat with cream or milk, and sugar. This is a treat to almost every body, — and nothing is more healthy, and any body can have it. And a full meal for six persons will not cost over thirty cents for all, including the milk and sugar with bread fruit.

CALCULATION.

Wheat worth per bushel, 96
64 pints in a bushel, I pint cost 01 1/2
Wheat for six persons, 01 1/2
Milk 2 quarts, at 6 cents per qt 12
Sugar for 6, 1/2 lb at 5 cts per lb 02 1/2
Butter 1 cent each 6
Bread 1 loaf at 8 cents 8

A good meal for a family of 6. 30 cents and some left, and with God in the house and a good wife, it must be a happy family.

May God bless your good work to the saving of untold suffering, and to the saving of thousands, soul and body. Amen.

Dear Saints: It is to the honor and glory of God that we send our testimony to the Trumpet. We are praising the Lord for this blessed evening light, and rejoicing in God the rock of our salvation. Dear Saints: I feel it would be to the glory of God to write my testimony. I am saved from all sin and sanctified as a second work of grace; blessed be the name of the Lord! I praise the Lord for sending his ministering servants to this place and preaching the gospel in its purity. The Lord saved me about a year ago last August. There are quite a number of saints here. We have prayer- meetings twice a week. The Lord wonderfully blesses our souls when we meet to do the will of God; it fills my soul with joy. I love to read the testimonies of God’s little ones. I can say to the glory of God, he is my physician. I have a mother, two sisters and two brothers that are far from God that I would like to see saved. I have many trials and temptations, but God delivers me out of them all. O it’s wonderful to serve God in spirit and in truth. It is as a shining light that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. Pray for me that I may do the will of God in all things.

Yours, washed in the blood,

Dear Saints of the living God: I feel led of God to write my testimony. I know this day that I am saved and sanctified each day and kept by the power of God, and walking in all the light he lets shine in my pathway. I am so thankful that the dear Lord spared my life to live in this glorious evening light. Though I came at the eleventh hour Jesus turned me not away. I was sixty-one years old when God for Christ’s sake pardoned all my sins and washed me in his precious blood. Praise his holy name for a free and a full salvation. I joined the M. E. sect when but a child. I cannot tell you that I lived there; I was there on probation. I staid there several years and the confusion and hypocrisy ran at such a rate that I could not go with them any longer. I am dead to their works now and living on the solid rock Christ Jesus. Praise the Lord for victory and saving and keeping power. I stand a living witness for Jesus. Your sister, kept by the power of God,

Dear Saints: To day finds me saved in Jesus, and washed in the blood of the Lamb. Three years ago the Lord sanctified my soul. Since then he has been my shield and portion, and with every temptation has made a way for my escape. Truly he has been as a wall of fire about me, a bright and shining light to my pathway, praise the name of the Lord. I am praising the Lord for a Savior that saves from sin and gives victory over the world, yea for a Savior that turneth not away those that call upon him. This spring I had the rheumatism. I trusted the Lord for several weeks and found no relief. I began to grow anxious. I went to meeting and getting quite determined that I would not yield to Satan, I testified that I would trust the Lord if he wouldn’t heal me, and from that time to this I have had no rheumatism. O praise the Lord, for his goodness endureth forever. This is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Pray for me. I have great opposition at home.

Your sister in Christ,

Dear Beloved Saints of God: The Spirit leads me to send in my testimony. We are praising God for salvation and deliverance from all sin and confusion. Hallelujah to the dear Son of God for the sanctification of my soul just now! O blessed be our dear Redeemer for ever! Amen. I was saved at the Beaver Dam camp meeting in the year 1890. I was one of D. L. Moody’s converts four years previous, and thought I was all right. But I was overcome, convinced and brought low by the pure word and testimony of the saints and had to consecrate for pardon. Then when we were returning home from the meeting I received the glorious light and I praised God aloud. We are filled with the same holy Spirit now, and my wife is now saved and free in the pure sweet love of God. Glory to God! to him be all the praise. He witnesses to us continually by his Holy Spirit, and we have no fears but are free. Pray for us all ye saints of the living God.

We are humbly your brother and sister and the servants of God,

Dear Saints of God: I can say that I am still saved through the precious blood. It was not the good that I have done, but only through the great mercy of God that he sent me his convicting spirit when I was living in the sects, to see my awful condition. O I do praise my great Redeemer that he has led me out of Babylon and all of its works. I do feel free in the Lord and can praise his holy name. God has a little church here. There are only a few in number. O praise God for a free salvation that does keep one so sweetly saved. I see so many cold professors that only have a form of godliness but deny the power of God. O may God have mercy on such and save them is my earnest prayer. O may God send more of his ministers here to preach more of the straight word, as some precious souls are starving for it. We look for a general harvest here in God’s own good time as the precious seed has been sown and has taken root. May God speed the day when his church be strengthened and multiplied, is the prayer of your sister, saved, sanctified and tried.

I have been in a deplorable condition for some time past, but glory be to God, I am saved from all the powers of the enemy. My testimony to day is, “For me to live in Christ and to die is gain.” Glory be to God forever! I found Bro. Willis and family here enjoying full salvation. We have had a glorious meeting here. We have made many friends as well as enemies, but glory be to God, the victory is ours. The eyes of the people have been opened and they are aroused to action by the words of wisdom we have received. I tell you there is a great work to be done in the Southwest. I will start home to White Oaks, New Mexico to morrow if nothing hinders, and Bro. Willis goes to California. I expect to do some-work in White Oaks as soon as I get home, because this is where I made my mistake before. I acted the Jonah a little, but I am willing to tell the people that Jesus died or all, even me. I never realized as I do now that I am sanctified wholly and all the old man dead. Oh! praise and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever! Amen.

Your brother under the blood,

Chalmur C. Schrontz.

Dear Readers: This evening finds me saved, ready for the, coming of my blessed Savior. O! how much better it is to serve the Lord than to live in sin. I lived in a backslidden state almost a year. During that time I had no peace in my soul. I passed sleepless hours at night thinking of my condition. For awhile I thought it would be much better for me to give my heart to God. Then the devil would tell me to put it off for a while longer which I did. After while I did not care whether I ever would give my heart to God again. O! what an awful condition to be in! By the grace of God I am determined to serve the Lord the rest of my time. O! praise the Lord that I am delivered. I desire the saints of God to pray for me that I may keep saved.

Your sister is the love of Jesus,

Frankie McNichelson.

Dear Saints of God: God bless and keep you sweetly saved. I do feel led of God to write a testimony to his glory and honor. I do praise and thank him for complete deliverence, for the salvation of my soul. O praise his dear holy name! It means a great deal to trust Father for all things. Right in the midst of a very severe trial, Father so kindly watched over me, and kept me saved, and gave me such sweet victory through it all. I’ve learned to trust him more and more. Praise his dear name! I feel perfectly free, contented, and satisfied. All is on the altar. Christ Divine. I ask an interest in your prayers.

Ever your sister,

Carrie Hitchcock.

Dear Trumpet Readers: I feel led to write my tesmony to the glory of God. 1 am praising God for a salvation that saves us from all sin, and keeps me free and clear in my soul. I know if friends and dear ones are against me the Lord is with me. If God be for us who can be against us? — Rom. 8:31. I praise the Lord for his wonderful word that teaches us the right way. I ask all of God’s dear ones to pray for me that I may be true to the Lord and do his will in all things.

Dearly Beloved of the Household of Faith: The word admonishes us to “bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. The following lines by Miss Havergal brings such peace and comfort to sick and sorrowing souls to put the trust in Him.

I am so weak dear Lord I cannot stand
One moment without thee:
But oh, the tenderness of thine unfolding!
And oh, the faithfulness of thine upholding!
And oh, the strength of thy right hand —
That strength is enough for me.
I so needy Lord! and yet I know,
All fullness dwells in thee:
And hour by hour that never-failing treasure
Supplies and tills in overflowing measure,
My least, my greatest need, and so
Thy grace is enough for me.

In times of trials and persecutions have found much comfort and satisfaction in Is. 4:1-3. — “Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name, thou art mine.

When thou passeth through the waters I will be with thee, and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee; when thou walkest through the fire, thou shall not be burned, neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Savior. Beloved let us trust in God at all times, believe on the word with a pure heart and all will be well. Amen!

Your brother in the faith, saved, sanctified and kept.

Dear Trumpet Readers: I feel that the Lord would have me say a few words of encouragement at least to his children and a word of testimony for him. Praise his holy name forever! The Trumpet comes regular, and I am so thankful to the giver of all good that it has become a weekly. May the Lord bless and prosper it. I am so thankful for the SHINNING LIGHT. I need just such a paper for my work among the children. The Lord bless them. O fathers, mothers, what do your children read? May God prosper it that it too may soon become a weekly. Dear afflicted ones, lean heavily upon the arm of him who delivers the oppressed as well as those who possess. I know whereof I speak, and know of a truth the Son of righteousness has arisen with healing in his wings. Praise the Lord! To those who desire to “taste and see that the Lord is gracious.” I would say. Earnestly press toward the mark. Search the scriptures, and gladly exchange every pearl you possess, for the one “pearl of great price,” and the Lord will bless you. Much love to all the children of my Father. I am saved and praising God for the “second benefit”

Dear Brethren: May the rich blessings of God and the power of the Holy Ghost rest and abide with you forever. Amen. I feel led by the Spirit of God to make known what God has done for me and the greater part of my family. Praise his holy name! Twenty-four years ago I left Egypt and crossed the Red Sea. I was exceedingly happy In the wilderness. I supposed, and believed that I was in the land of Canaan, and the work was all complete. But by and by I met a people that told me there was another river to be crossed in order to get into this sweet Canaan, the river of Jordan. My answer to them was, I am happy; I know that God has forgiven my sins and I am all right. So I began to fight the holiness people and this second work of grace, not knowing that I was blind and bitten by the fiery serpents that were in the wilderness. I paused and considered for a moment. I was honest. God knows; so I confessed and repented of my wrong doings and promised God to obey him, and to be led and guided by him. So God showed me I had to cross another river, the second grace. And what was I that I should withstand God. And so I accepted full salvation, God’s own appointed way, and turned towards Canaan, and looked by faith to the cross at Jesus’ bleeding wound and the power in his shed blood for me. And as I stood on Jordan’s banks and looked across into the sweet land of Canaan the waters divided, and by faith in Jesus I crossed into this land of rest, where milk and honey flow. I am happy by a second work of grace. Old Adam is dead in me, and all self and carnality, and the cause is removed. Praise the Lord! Jesus is all in all to me, and I am out of Babylon and Babylon out of me. Bless God! “Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” Rev. 18:4. O how good it is to be free in Christ Jesus! Praise the Lord!

Your brother, saved and sanctified,

A. C. Bixler.
