JESUS SAVES FROM SIN TO-DAY.

_____

Mat. 1:21.
Words and music by B. E. Warren.

Hear the news, — a joyful sound —
Jesus saves from sin to-day:
Spread the tidings all around,
Jesus saves from sin to-day.
Bear the message caref’ly on,
Tell the sinful slaves, obey;
Heaven calls you. — ev’ry one;
Jesus saves from sin to-day.

Let the sound like thunders roll,
Jesus saves from sin to-day,
Far and wide, from pole to pole,
Jesus saves from sin to-day.
Let it cross the mighty sea,
Waft it on the ocean waves,
Shout, with rapture, all ye free, “Hallelujah! Jesus saves.”

Start the sound, oh, silent voice,
Jesus saves from sin to-day;
Hear, ye nations, and rejoice,
Jesus saves from sin to-day.
Let it float on ev’ry breeze,
Let the earth, — her homage pay,
Echoes falling on the lees,
Jesus saves from sin to-day.

Sing above the din and strife,
Jesus saves from sin to-day;
Through His death and endless life,
Jesus saves from sin to-day.
Swell the chorus, full and free,
Lofty lords and kings obey,
’Tis the song of victory,
Jesus saves from sin to-day.

Sing it when the heart is sad,
Jesus saves from sin to-day;
Sing it when you’re over-glad,
Jesus saves from sin to-day.
When you’re pressed on ev’ry hand,
Sing it, if they all gainsay.
For it is the Lord’s command: —
“BE YE SAVED FROM SIN TO-DAY.”

B. E. Warren.

Fruit Bearers.

_____

READER, are you a fruit bearer in your Lord’s vineyard? Are you seeking to make your life one of grand consecration to his glory, and thank offering for his unmerited love? You may not be able to exhibit much fruit to the eves of the world; your circumstances and position in life may forbid you to point to to any splendid services, or laborious and imposing efforts in the cause of God. It matters not. It is often those fruits that are unseen and unknown to man, ripening in seclusion, that He values most. The quiet lowly walk of humility, putting yourself unreservedly in his hands, willing to be led by Him, saying, Not my will but thine, O God; the unselfish spirit, the meek bearing of an injury, the unostentatious act of kindness, — these are some of the fruits which your heavenly Father loves, and by which he is glorified. Perchance it may be with you the season of trial, the chamber of prostrate sickness, the time of desolating bereavement, some furnace seven times heated; herein too, you may sweetly glorify your God. Never is your heavenly Father more glorified by his children on earth, than when in the midst of these furnace fires, he listens to nothing but the gentle breathings of confiding faith and love — “Let Him do what seemeth good unto him.” Yes, we can glorify him in a way which angels cannot do in a world where no trial is. They can glorify God only with the crown; you can glorify him with the cross, and the prospect of the crown together. Ah, if he be dealing severely with you; if He as the great Husbandman, be pruning his vines, lopping their boughs, stripping off their luxuriant branches and beautiful rods, remember the end, — “he purgeth it that it may bring forth more fruit,” and ‘‘herein is my Father glorified.”

Be it yours to lie passive in his hands, saying in unmurmuring resignation, “Father, glorify thy name; glorify thyself, whether by giving or taking, filling my cup or emptying me from vessel to vessel; let me know no will but thine.” Angels possess no higher honor and privilege than glorifying the God before whom they cast their crowns. How blessed to be able to claim brotherhood with the spirits in the upper sanctuary! Nay more, to be associated with the Savior himself in the theme of his own exalted joy when he said, “I have glorified thee on earth.” Amid the trials and the troubles and the sorrows of this present life, when friends leave us, when sickness comes, when our hopes are blasted, when standing on the verge of the grave and looking down into the cold tomb, the eyes pouring forth floods of tears, — it is a blessed privilege to be permitted to look forward to that brighter scene in heaven, where not a pang shall ever be felt, and not a tear shall ever be shed.

“We speak of the realms of the blest,
That country so bright and so fair;
And oft are its glories confessed,
But what must it be to there?

O Lord, in this valley of woe,
Our spirits for heaven prepare;
Then shortly we also may know
And feel what it is to be there.”

Your sister in Christ, saved and wholly sanctified,

Rosa Lynch.

Has Methodism completed her Providential Mission?

_____

I HEARD the sainted Bishop Marvin in one of his grand sermons say in substance: “Methodism is the child of Providence. God through Wesley raised up this Church for a specific purpose, and that purpose was to infuse life and power into the dead forms of the Church as it then existed, and whenever we cease to do this specific work and degenerate into dead formality and lose our spiritual and experimental power, our decadence will have begun, and God will desert us and raise up another people who will do the work we refuse or neglect to do.” These words startled this scribe, for he had fondly indulged the thought that someday we would fill the world. I inquired in my own mind, is it possible that our beloved Methodism may at last see her glory depart and her crown given to another, and will God write upon her walls, “Thou art weighed in the balances and found wanting?”

If we trace the history of God’s providences in all the past it will be clearly seen that many things good and useful, and that had the Divine approval while they served the Lord’s purpose, were set aside when they failed to do, and that he raised up in their stead that which would carry out his inscrutable designs. When the tall son of Kish was righteous he lead Israel to victory, but when an evil spirit entered into him he was slain and his crown given to David, a man after God’s own heart. The Jews were once God’s peculiar people and the sole custodians of the Church, but when they proved themselves unworthy of the trust committed to them Christ said to them, “The kingdom of God shall be taken from you and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.” Paul gives us to understand that there are but three indestructible principles connected with the Church; namely, faith, hope and charity. If we have these we are on the Rock, for they are the experimental principles of godliness which every true Christian must possess.

Without them everything else is naught — a sounding brass and tinkling cymbal. We may boast of many learned and eloquent ministers who preach with the “tongue of men and of angels;” our colleges and universities may understand and explain “all mysteries;” our people may give largely “to feed the poor” and extend missions, and yet if we have not this greatest of all personal experiences — love or “charity” — we are nothing. God raised up the Wesleys to spread scriptural holiness in these lands. The doctrine that distinguished their preaching from all others was a present and full salvation, which each Christian must know for himself — a salvation obtained by faith only.

And now, having seen the purpose for which Methodism was raised up, and that God uses instrumentalities just so long as they faithfully serve his purposes, and when they fail so to do dispenses with them and appoints others in their place who are more worthy, it behooves us to pause and ask ourselves the momentous question, Is Methodism filling her providential place in the world? In other words, are we contending for as deep conviction, as poignant repentance, and as clear evidence of conversion as did our fathers? These are vital questions, and I fear they might be truthfully answered in the negative. Many in these days are admitted into the Church who have no experimental knowledge of repentance.

Repentance is a back number in many modern revivals, and often genuine conversions are few. At the Sam Jones meeting in Dallas multiplied hundreds gave their hands, promising to “quit your meanness,” and that was the end of it. The papers reported them converted, but it there was one real convert I did not see it. And yet that meeting cost more money than the salary of all our pastors in these seven charges for a year. Was that right? Why so few? Because there was no repentance preached, or rather because they were told that repentance was simply turning around in the road, and he illustrated what he called repentance by hopping like one leg was shorter than the other, in one direction on the long platform, and saying as he walked, “I am going to hell, I am going to hell,” and then turned around and hobbled along in the opposite direction, saying, “l am going to heaven, I am going to heaven. That is repentance. Bud.”

Who ever saw one of these dryeyed, hold-up-your-hand, turn-around- in-the-road, quit-your-meanness sort of converts give evidence of the deep sorrow of soul on account of sin? Not one. True repentance is not that light, easy and pleasant task some seem to think, and I venture there is not a true Christian who reads these lines who does not have a vivid recollection of the deep agony of soul through which he passed when he in repentance, felt like David, he was exposed to the pains of hell and the sorrows of death.

The time was when we condemned the Campbellites for making what they call conversion so easy, but now some of our preachers eclipse them so far in the ease in which they make converts that old Alexander if alive would be ashamed of himself, for he required a penitent to believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God and be immersed, but these fellows simply tell them to turn around in the road, or hold up your hand, and then report a bright conversion.

Would it not be better to inquire after the old paths and walk therein? God’s word says: “If ye seek him he will be found of thee, but it ye forsake him he will cast thee off forever.”

W. H. Hughes.

NOTE.

We take the above from the Texas Christian Advocate of Sept. 26, ’95.

We would suggest that God knows no ism. He never endorsed or used a heresy, a sect. But he has used good humble men in spite of their sect relations. But just as soon as men departed from him he departed from them. So he has dropped the proud-hearted, sefilsh, and idolatrous preachers of sectism as fast as they forsook righteousness. And now if ye will indeed enquire after the old paths, come out of your corrupt ism and get saved in Christ and in the truth.

TESTIMONIES.

“Thy Testimonies are Wonderful.” -Psa. 119:129.

Colby, Kan.

Dear Brethren and Sisters in Christ: I feel as if it would be to the glory of the dear Lord for me to write my testimony although I am yet a babe in Christ. He keeps me by his own mighty power every day, and he gives me victory over the powers of darkness. I am having some very severe trials but we know the dear Lord works everything for good for his children, and we know that if we trust the Lord and do our part he will always bring us through with victory in our souls. I ask all the true children of God to pray for me and for my unsaved papa and brother. Your saved sister in Christ,

Flora Waters.

St. Clair, Tenn.

Dear Trumpet Readers: I am now fifty-four years old. When I was fourteen or near that age I found the Lord precious to my soul, and I know I was born of God, which I have never doubted. But by false teaching I soon yielded to temptation and committed sin, not knowing that I could live without sin. So I went on all this long time in doubts and tears, sometimes thinking I was a Christian and sometimes thinking I was not. Still I belonged to the M. E. church (so called), but when I would go to meeting and see the pride I would get so disgusted I would think I had rather be out of the church (?) than in it. The Lord pity them. They are going on the same way yet. They have my husband with them yet; I am praying for him to be brought out into the glorious light and liberty of the truth.

One year ago last spring I heard the first holiness preacher I had ever heard in my life. Bro’s Kilpatrick and Carter came to this place to preach the truth to the people, and they did preach the truth, although I was very much prejudiced against them at first. My children went to hear them a long time before I did. They liked them very well, especially my oldest daughter. She said they were a good kind of people and sent of God to preach. I had been wanting to see some one sent of God to preach, so I said I would go, and I did, and on my way home I told my friends it was the first time I had ever heard the truth preached in all its purity. I had not heard them long until they convinced me that I was a sinner. I thought to myself, “What will I do? I have been a member of the church so long and even shouted at revivals; what will people think of me if I go up there to be prayed for?” I know I was a sinner because I knew I had sinned, and I also knew I had been born of God. Oh what a miserable condition I was in! I never can describe it. What could I do but repent? So on my way home from the baptizing on Sunday I fell on my knees in the wood and said, “Lord if there is any mercy in leaven for me, let me know it now, for I felt that I was miserable and undone forever. I felt that the heavens were all darkness and the earth all against me. I thought there was no pardon for me. But the same day I went off by myself to pray in secret. There the Lord heard and answered my prayer. What a change! I felt perfect peace, and I knew the Lord blessed me.

But sometime after this I felt that the Lord wanted me to hold family prayer. So I went in the house where my husband and little boy were. I told them I felt like the Lord wanted me to pray before them. My husband said I could pray for myself, and he would pray for himself, and got up and went out of the house. So I became discouraged and got all in doubts, worse than the first time. I went back in condemnation worse than ever. It seemed to me that I did not believe the Bible. I had been at an ordinance meeting soon after the Lord blessed me, and was invited to take part in it, but did not. I let the devil make me think I was not fit. Oh what a delusion of the devil! The Lord permitted the devil to have full control of me for about four months. I was sick all this time, very low. Would think every day I would not live another day. I was deceived in every way possible. He made me believe I was going to die and that without mercy. I thought I had committed the unpardonable sin and that I was lost forever. Oh the horrors of hell that were before me all the time! I would not write this to the public, but I just want the people to know what the Lord permitted me to suffer because I did not obey him. I was taking medicine all this time but did not believe it would do me any good. I believed in divine healing, but how to trust God I knew not.

So I went on that way all summer until Bro. Carter came back to this place. He came to my house one day, and we had a talk. I told him that I felt like I was lost or at least had committed the unpardonable sin. He said he had no idea that I had and talked to me in a way that caused me to try again, although the spirit of prayer had left me. I had almost quit trying to pray. Sometimes I would get on my knees and try to pray, but the spirit had almost left me. Now friends, this is no dream; it is the truth; and I do hope no one will ever be in the fix I have been in but soon after I had the talk with Bro. C. I found peace with God, which I have enjoyed ever since. Praise the Lord for his goodness to me! I have come out of sectism and got all of sectism out of me. I have enjoyed much since I left the sect and belong to God alone. I have learned to trust him for all things. I do not take any medicine at all. I quit taking it about one year ago; have not tasted it since. When I get sick now I take it to the Lord in prayer. Oh what a Savior! He can save soul and body.

I feel that I am saved to day, but I fear I am not wholly sanctified. I feel a little impatience. I love every body and can pray for my enemies, if I have any, as well as any one else. The Lord showed me again that I must have family prayer, which I have, the Lord being my helper. I want the prayers of all the saints that I may be wholly sanctified, if I am not. I had an awful temper and it is gone. If any one who reads this is a backslider, do not despond as I did and think there is no mercy for you, but just trust God for all things, and you will come out victorious in the end. Praise his name! Your sister, saved and trusting in God,

Bettie Mooney.

“If a man that had heard of a tulip, but had never seen one, should be told that that bulb would produce so beautiful a flower, he would scarcely believe it; and if through his impatience he would be often taking up his tulip root out of the earth to see the process, whether it began to shoot or no, he would certainly incapacitate it for putting forth and producing this excellent flower. And thus it is with us; when we will be seeing, discerning, and knowing what God operates in us, we only hinder His work. There is nothing wanting on our part but fidelity, patience, submission, and absolute resignation to our Divine Gardener; who in His own time, will let us see the wonderful things He has wrought in us, while we thought ourselves poor, miserable, and destitute of all good.”

Oct. 29, 1895.

With a heart full of gratitude to God for his preservation and wonderful goodness, after a long journey of over four months, we are permitted to meet again with the dear Trumpet family, whom we found abounding in the riches of the grace of God, in the midst of abundance of work on every side. God has been abundantly blessing their labors in pushing forward the work for the salvation of souls. Just at present the work seems unusally pressing on account of getting prepared for winter. The new building that is in progress of erection has only just been commenced; the foundation is laid and a car load of lumber has been purchased, and the material will soon be on the ground for the work. A short time ago a call was made for carpenters. Only one or two have come, although some have written about coming; but we are in need of a number of carpenters at once: “The King’s business demands haste.” Has not the Lord moved upon some consecrated carpenters and workers to donate their time to his work for at least a week or two? The pressing demand is now, and not a month or two later.

Also we have purchased a few acres of timber to supply the fuel for running the machinery, and need several good consecrated workers at once to get out the wood. If the Lord moves upon such to give their labor for a couple of weeks or more, we should have great reason to give God much praise. And those who cannot come can offer up a prayer of faith that the needs may be supplied on this line, and also for means to complete the building, as we are in very much need of more room.

We would furthermore say that at present we have Bible studies almost every night, and those coming to help can also have the advantages of these Bible studies.

On my way from the West I stopped at Chicago. We truly had a precious meeting over Sabbath, and the power of God wonderfully manifest at the Open Door Mission. While in the city we visited the Paper Folding Co., and made a selection of a folder, which we feel is just the one the Lord desires us to have, as the machine is so complicated as to not only fold papers, but to do book and tract work also, at the rate of three thousand per hour in folding papers and small tracts. The price of this machine was $925.00 with the latest improvements and attachments for book work and tract work; but the firm made us special reductions, and we can get the machine by taking it soon for $650.00. We left our order with them subject to being recalled if necessary. We know of nothing else that is of greater need to help us along in the work than this machine just at present. We lack almost $300.00 to have enough to make the purchase. Now, we feel that each of our readers have the spread of the gospel at heart and desire to have a hand in this work. You can therefore aid us in your earnest prayers.

DECEIVED AND DECEIVING.

To all the Saints, and Readers of the Trumpet: It becomes my painful duty to warn all the children of God everywhere, against a deceptive spirit in the persons of R. A. Cannan and his unscriptural wife, who have lately been at Phoenix, Ariz., associating with and attending the meetings of the saints. These parties are formerly from San Diego, Cal. I am personally acquainted with them, and have with others, personally and repeatedly admonished this man before he took the final step, and married this woman with whom he now is living. According to best authority his first wife is still living. For sometime previous to marrying this second wife, he held this doctrine of Satan that he had a right to marry another. At one time he acknowledged his error but later again claimed that he had received special light upon his so-called special case, and from that time deliberately ignored every admonition, and went about, among different ones of the saints seeking to justify himself in his doctrine. This was previous to his second marriage. It is plainly seen therefore that this man has not done this thing in honest ignorance, but has willfully made the deception his choice. Now I hereby warn all the saints everywhere to beware of him. No one can endorse him in his sinful condition without doing so at the peril of his own soul. The desire of my heart for this man and woman is that they earnestly seek repentance that they may recover themselves from the snare of the devil. Your humble servant in the gospel,

J. W. Byers.

PEOPLE THE LORD.

Dear Saints of the Most High: As the dear Lord has healed us and our family so often, I feel that I should bring him an offering, although I know that the most I could give would be but a small recompence for his goodness to us for but a single day. Oh if we only realized how much God is, daily and hourly, doing for us, temporally and spiritually, I think we would all feel ashamed of our slackness; inasmuch as ye have done it unto the least of these, ye have done it unto me.

Dear ones, have you ever “footed up” the bill to see how much doctor bill the Lord has saved you in the past year? Think on these things, and ask yourself the question, “Am I doing right in keeping back the Lord’s savings?” May the dear Lord help you to do your duty on this line. How well I remember when I was unsaved how I dreaded to go after the doctor. I was in constant fear that one of the family would be taken sick, and I would have to go seven miles to get the doctor. I would be alarmed at the least cold or fever that would appear amongst our family. And then the “big bill,” five dollars a trip, and sometimes two trips a day; then the little coffin would be carried out, the vacant place in our hearts and home, with from twenty-five to seventy dollars to pay, for what?

But not so now; when one of our loved ones is afflicted, oh how sweet to know that our Physician is right in our home! O praise his name forever! And no long miles to travel in the dark night; no days and nights of anxious waiting and watching for some token from the doctor that “there is no hope.” But we just ask and believe, and the work is done. O praise the Lord for his goodness to the children of men! And no big extortionate bill to pay. Oh beloved, do you think on these things? How often have your prayers been answered; when in your unsaved state you would have called a doctor and paid him extortionately without a murmur. Now do so to the Lord, do not keep back all he has saved you; remember the self-denying ones at the Trumpet office, how they have left all to administer to the “household of faith,” the “bread of life;” and how willing they are to pray for the afflicted at all times. Open your hearts, and your purse to the cause of the Lord, and see if the Lord will not pour you out such a blessing as you have not had for many a day. Hear what the Word says, “Bring ye ALL the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” — Mal. 4:10. Amen.

My prayer is that the Lord will urge all his children to give as he has prospered them, that the much needed Paper Folder and all the other necessary things be speedily gotten, at the Trumpet office. Your brother saved in Jesus,

J. G. Neff.

BE YE THANKFUL.

A sister writes us as follows: “At the time when I wrote for your prayers I was wonderfully healed and gave God the glory. A Catholic lady was working for me at the time, and she was convinced there was power in God to heal in these last days. I was a great sufferer, and got right out of bed and dressed, washed up the breakfast dishes, swept, and done some baking for dinner, and felt grand and glorious both soul and body. Praise God!”

But before recording this good news in the letter, the dear sister wrote that she had requested an answer to her letter and had waited patiently for the same, and how “the enemy of our souls has taken advantage of the matter, and accusing you and others for not caring for any body,” etc. In fact this was the leading contents of the letter, and to remind us of the duty of still writing her a letter. It looks very much as though the confession of what God had done was only incidental, and would never have come to us were it not for the occasion of writing to us about the letter we have never yet written. Even though in this letter we failed to see any special need of a reply, only this, that a letter was desired from us. Now beloved, we do not call attention to this matter for the admonition of the sister; for we have finally written the letter, and done our duty to her, but it might do some more of our readers good to remind them that we are the servants of the Most High God and our time is not our own; we live not to please ourselves, nor yet to please others, except to their profit, and for their edification. Please consider, dear readers, that about 100 letters come to our office per day; and the portion that is sent to me for attention, though but a small share, would deprive us of time for family worship, were we to answer all, much more, of time to respond to the daily calls for special prayer. The Lord healed this sister, and yet the devil was mean enough to tempt her that we were selfish, “respecter of persons,” etc. because we did not find time to write a good Christian letter, though there was no special need of it.

What think you the sister would have thought, had we answered her letter, but informed her that because we have so many letters on hand to answer we cannot take time to take her case to God in prayer? Doubtless she would have concluded that we had better left some letters unanswered, and engaged with God in earnest prayer for her deliverance from suffering. Well perhaps had we taken time to write her, some one might have at the same time been neglected in the daily ministration of prayer. O dearly beloved, when your letters come appealing to us for prayers in your behalf, they are seldom if ever overlooked; but that we can always answer is out of the question. By the grace of God the praying business must go on without ceasing if every thing else must stand still. O dear people, help us to pray, and be ye thankful for all God does for you; whether your letters are all answered or not. Amen.

News from the Field

__________

Pioneer, O., Oct. 14.

Dear Brethren: We have just closed a week’s meeting at Fayette, O. The Lord gave us a precious ordinance meeting the last night. Bro. Howard from Michigan and brethren from Pioneer and Ottokee were in attendance and felt much built up in the Lord. One precious soul was reclaimed. The Lord gave us some interesting street meetings. We commence meeting near Pioneer to-morrow. Saints through these parts desiring meetings can address us at Pioneer, Ohio. From your sanctified co-workers.

Dear Saints: We are glad to report victory. After the Payne C. M. we came to Decatur, Ind., accompanied by Bro. W. I. Gordon. Held meeting in a store room one week. Souls were being delivered from the power of the enemy and being saved when we had to give up the building. So we moved the meeting to Bro. Durr’s house and continued the meeting which lasted in all about three weeks; in which time there were about fifteen or twenty consecrations. Father recorded their names in heaven. One of them had been a Roman Catholic; had to give up his job of work. Many others realized what it meant to forsake all for Jesus, and we believe nearly all, if not all, got a very deep experience. Most of them came out against much opposition. Sunday eve, Oct. 27, we observed the ordinances of the Lord’s house, in which twenty-six took part, and was one of the most precious ordinance services we ever attended. The saints from Monroe Centre and Willshire attended often, and by their prayers and singing assisted much in the work. At the close of the ordinance service one soul was saved. We expect to close here this week and go southeast of here a few miles. Ask an interest in the prayers of all God’s little ones. Your brother and sister in the one body,

J. N. and Ida Worden.

Wamic, Ore., Oct. 12.

Dear Saints: We started from the Saints’ Home in Washington enroute for Woodburn, Ore. camp meeting. We came to Pendleton, Ore, and held street meeting on the Lord’s day. We found a people that seemed to be hungry for the truth. We distributed tracts which were eagerly received. Next came to Wamic and stopped over the next Lord’s day and found the people hungry for the truth. We arrived at Woodburn, Aug. 16 after a drive of of about 400 miles over dusty roads and across the Cascades. We tarried in the famous Willamette Valley until Oct. 1, when we started back across the mountains and came to Wamic, Ore, where we are at present holding meeting since last Sabbath. There have been two consecrations up to date. The people are friendly to the truth. I believe that God has sheep here. God is planting his word here to stay and bring forth unto salvation. Praise God for his wonderful salvation! From your brother sanctified and kept,

O. A. Chapman and Co.

Dear Saints: Since our last report we have held meetings at or near Jamestown, and in Danville, and Cortland. At the first named place, we held nearly four weeks, which resulted in the salvation of a few souls. At Danville the brethren from Hadley procured a hall. Here we held about three weeks. This meeting was not very well attended, though a few were saved and one

baptized. This being a new place we believe the way is opened up for a good work there in the future. When we arrived at Cortland the Pentecost Band had been holding meeting there about five weeks and still continued. It was claimed that they had some four or five converions, and no doubt some of them were, but as they taught some good things they failed to discern the body, and go about to build up their own little sect, and get into many grievous errors. Among these are the awful manifestations, which they take to be of the Spirit; such as hideous groanings, leaping, and falling and wallowing around, running to and fro through the house, which are truly of a spirit but not of the Spirit of God. Under this doctrine the people were getting greatly deceived, and were greatly surprised when they found that we were not in harmony with it. But when the truth began to go forth they soon saw the difference; but some had so imbibed the spirit that they still clung to it. We had to close here on the account of the diphtheria. We came on to this place near Hayden, Ind. and began meeting the fourteenth. The interest is good here and the prospect for a harvest of souls, though none saved at present. Our address at present is Reddington, Ind. From your saved brother,

B. N. Longerbone and Co.

Dear Saints: Since our last report, we have held meetings as follows: at Morehead; Slab-Camp school house; Elliotsville; Westwood; at Pompey school house; and a few services at other places. We only had three services at Morehead, in the court house: large congregations, and good interest. Four came to be prayed for. The meeting at Slab- Camp, lasted nearly a week, and was good. Some converted, and some sanctified; and the church strengthened. The Lord manifest his healing power in a few cases, who put themselves in his hands. Praise his name! Bro. W. T. Hall, was with me during the entire meeting; whom the Lord used. From there we went to Elliottsville, and stayed nearly a week, where the Lord blessed our souls abundantly, in preaching his precious Word, which accomplished much good, in Jesus’ name. Some were converted, and quite a number sanctified. And some who claimed to be in the church of God, without salvation, saw by the preaching of the Word, that Christ is the door; and none but saved people are in his church. John 10:9. Bro. H. F. Dunagan and others assisted in the meeting. The meeting at Pompey school house (five days) was in a new place, where the people had never heard of the evening light. The interest was very good, but no one got saved. The work in this part is on the forward move; but help is greatly needed, to carry the truth to the many places, where the people are calling for it. We expect to have a general meeting at Spruce school house, Nov. 22-24, for the purpose of ordaining elders and deacons, etc. Also expect to have an ordinance service. A general invitation is given to all who love the cause of Christ. Come in his name. After the meeting above mentioned, wife and I expect to go to St. Louis, Mo., where we will likely spend most of the winter, the Lord willing, as help is desired, and much needed in that place. Remember us in your prayers. Yours contending for the faith of the gospel,

Thos. Carter and Co.

Amid the din and aparent confusion of this great Sodom, with our lives consecrated to God and his work, we can say he sweetly saves us just now, and thank God the work is extending. God has raised up another mission among the dear German brethren near the corner of Milwaukee Avenue and Lincoln St., about eight miles north-west of the Open Door Mission. It is a nice little meeting house, all seated and dedicated to the evening light. Dear Bro. Nimz has given his life to the work, and God is using him to his glory, as he has a voice for singing. God is working among that people. We were at their Tuesday afternoon meeting, Oct. 22. There was a case of possession of devils of the worst type, a young unmarried woman whom the devil would send off in a paroxysm of jerking and distorting of features, and a rigidity of the body. The devil prostrated her right there in our meeting. Hands were laid on and the devil rebuked; after a severe struggle he was cast out. Mark 16:17. She rose to her feet and testified to her deliverance, amid much rejoicing. Hallelujah! There was present a young acquaintance of hers about fifteen years old who sympathized and the devil fled right into her; and discerning by her actions that this was the case, we at once rebuked him and commanded him in the name of Jesus, to leave the room. She was also delivered; the rejoicing continued; to God be all the glory. Father healed a poor man who was prostrated with nervousness, the effects of tobacco and alcohol. Many of the dear German friends were settled down on the truth, and their faith strengthened, for they all had been sectarians. We expect dear Bro. Hahn soon to take up this German work.

The work at the Open Door Mission still goes on. Many, many, cases for healing. Truly God is great and good. Brethren do not forget this work in Chicago, and there must be missions established all over this city in God’s own good time, according to his will.

I arrived here Saturday from Grand Junction to begin the battle for the Lord. It is wonderful what Father has done in the four days we have been here, in blessing our souls. Pray for the work here, and for the Milwaukee Avenue Mission. Yours in him,

G. B. Collins.

Standard, Okla, Oct. 25, ’95.

This camp season has been the most precious and glorious of our life, God having used us more than ever before, and we give him all the glory. We neglected to report the work at Phillipsburg and Harper, Kan. The former place having never heard any preaching in this present reformation, except three or four sermons by Bro. W. A. Haynes, we thought best to hold a tent meeting ten days before the camp meeting to help open the work. We had a good hearing and many hearts won to the truth. But some resisted because they were not Christ’s sheep. We had the promise of a grove one mile from town, for the C. M. But the influence of one sect preacher prevailed against the promise and then God opened the way to hold it in town, which favored many warm-hearted people with the privilege of attending camp, which would have been impossible had it been held in the grove. So the ‘wrath of man was made to praise him,” and all things worked together for good. Praise God! Saints from various parts came in until about one hundred were at the ordinance service, twenty baptized and several healed. Many hands that hung down were lifted up as the salvation work moved on; backsliders returned, sinners yielded to God and believers were sanctified. To God be all the glory.

The harper meeting was not so well attended; by making a sacrifice several might have come and certainly the gain would have more than equalled the loss. God was with his truth as the Spirit directed and loosed several that were bound. After a vigorous battle against the deceptions of the devil, glorious victory prevailed, as the Spirit was poured out. The M. E. preacher sent for a Salvation Army captain and opened meeting a half block from our tent, and thank God, the crowd was kept away so the needy saints could get the help they needed and this worked out for good to all that loved God. Nine were baptized and about seventy partook of the ordinances, and truly our hearts were all knit together in love. Times have been close this year in the West, but we lacked nothing. God bless the dear ones who so bountifully supplied our needs. To God be all the glory!

The meeting here in Oklahoma was very precious. We did not find all prospering as when we left them last spring, but as the Word went forth and they found that we could not be used as props, they got down to business. And God was not slack in fulfilling his promises. We were much refreshed by the coming of Bro’s Byrum and Daugherty, who were especially used in teaching and assisting in the work of divine healing. A goodly number of saints in camp. Sixteen baptized and about eighty-five at the ordinance service, and many healed of various infirmities and diseases, and good attendance at night from the surrounding community. This closes the camp season. Bro. Byrum returned to the Office and Bro. Daugherty to Lawrence, Kan. Bro. C. E. Hunter was ordained by imposition of hands, having proved his call to the ministry by his fruitful labor in the Master’s harvest, and will hold a meeting near North Enid. Bro. Dansberger and wife go to Robinson, Kan. Mary and I to Arkansas City.

Dear Saints of God: With joy in my soul I am happy to report to you that I am still sweetly saved in Jesus. Had the grand privilege of attending the Assembly meeting at Grand Junction, Mich. I do praise the dear Lord for the soul food that I received as the Word went forth in the name of Jesus. The Lord was there in healing and saving power. My heart was made glad to see the dear children at the Home remembering their Creator in the days of their youth. Lord, bless the little children. Also saw the dear Trumpet family. God bless them abundantly for their kindness to us while with them. While there I could realize that it required a real Christ faith to trust the dear Lord for all things as they do. I would say to all the dear ones in the field, let us put forth every effort in Jesus’ name to do our part faithfully and also stir up the pure minds of every dear child of God that has of this world’s goods, to remember the dear ones there that are preaching to thousands of souls by the holy literature that they are sending out continually. While at the Office it made me think of the busy bees to see the dear ones who have consecrated all their time and talent to this work trusting the dear Lord for their food and clothing. O dear ones, do remember them with food, clothing and means as a free-will offering as the Lord has prospered you. I left Grand Junction, Mich, on Oct. 12, came to Markleville, Ind., commenced a meeting on Lord’s day about two miles north of that place at Sister Bray’s house. The meeting closed on Sunday night, 20th, with victory on the Lord’s side. The little ones were much encouraged, and increased with the increase of God. Will go to Medway, O., to hold meetings as long as the Lord wills. As you think of me, breathe a prayer in my behalf. Yours all on the altar,

F. Rosenberry.

Dear Brethren: After stopping a few days: with Bro. Byers at San Francisco, and Oakland, Cal. I came on to Salt Lake City, Utah, and stayed over Sunday and did considerable silent preaching by way of handing out several hundred tracts to the people, who were mostly Mormons. Having never met with any of the Mormon people before, I had a chance to give them some gospel truths to read.

The Mormon temple at that place cost over two and one-half million dollars, and they call their organization, “The church of Jesus Christ, of the Latter Day Saints.” But we fear there is a host of latter day sinners in their so-called church. One branch of the Mormons claim that theirs is the church of Jesus Christ reorganized. But we find by reading the word of God that the church of Jesus Christ never had to be reorganized, because he said he would build his church upon the rock and the gates of hell should not prevail against it. Matt. 16:18. And that he is the head of the church. Col. 1:18.

But the Mormons here have elected a man as president, to be head of their organization. They preach considerable truth, and in that way ensnare souls. Those who formerly had a plurality of wives still continue their life of polygamy, but for the past few years the law of our land forbids them to continue the practice of taking unto themselves additional wives, so the president of their organization issued a proclamation that that law be observed.

From there I came on to Denver, and spent two or three days with the church and found them holding services each night at the mission at 1016-18th St. also street service each evening. In this city we visited

THE ANTI-CHRIST HEALER.

Quite an excitement has prevailed among the people since he has been here. We visited this man Schlatter, not to be healed by him but to know by what power the people were being drawn together. It did not take long to solve the mystery. He stood inside a yard next to the street, by the fence, while hundreds of people were constantly, day after day, thronging about him to have him squeeze their hand and handkerchief, and silently repeat his magic words of superstition and impart his satanic power and influence to such as put their cases into his hands. He is a Roman Catholic, German, with full beard, and dark hair, parted in the middle, hanging down to his shoulders, and loves to have the newspapers speak of him as looking like Christ, and having the power of the Messiah.

He claims the “father” has been leading him for some time and showing him wonderful visions and revelations. But it did not take long to find out the name of his “father.” See – John 8:44. He would take the hand of the patient in one hand, and their handkerchief in the other, and hold them while he silently repeated some words, then squeeze them with all his might, and as he let go would say “dank,” which was all the words spoken to any one while we were there, with one exception, and that was a lady who fainted, and after recovering he told her to have “faith and patience” and she would be all right. There was not a word said about Jesus, nor any of the word of God expounded; no praises to God, uttered by him or those treated by him. We were told that he would not look anyone in the eyes. For half an hour as we stood within a few feet of him he looked directly at no one, but glanced about at the clouds and trees as he performed his witchery, and put on a very pious expression, until finally a brother asked him a few questions, among which was, “Are you the Christ?” He replied indignantly, “I am not here to answer questions.” And the lion nature of his carnal mind was soon stirred to such an extent that he did not look much like the meek and lowly Savior, and fastened his eyes upon the brother as if trying to bind him with his satanic power. The brother said, “I denounce all such works as of the devil.” Schlatter then fastened his eyes upon us, but we rebuked the devil in the name of Jesus, and praised God for victory over the powers of darkness. We warned some of the people against putting themselves under his influence, but about all were anxious to “try” him.

We saw no sign of any healing of the many who passed through his hands while we were there, yet some before this claimed to be healed. That was what deceived the people. But the Word tells us that such things will be in the last days, and miracles, signs and lying wonders to deceive.

O how necessary it is that the children of God move up to their privileges in the gospel where Bible signs follow as the Word teaches in a way that the church will shine above all the isms and schisms in the world.

The next evening a blind man came to the mission who had been three times to visit Schlatter to be treated, but received no benefit. He said the Lord showed him the first time that Schlatter was not of God, but was persuaded by friends to go twice more. He did so, and came away bound by the devil, insomuch that he could not repent until prayer was offered in his behalf and the binding powers of Satan rebuked. Then he seemed to repent but for a time could not believe. We asked God to reveal what was in the way, and soon the man drew out a handkerchief which he received from Schlatter and was wearing it, and threw it away, then could believe for the pardon of his sins, and was soon at peace with God. As he had not yet heard much teaching on divine healing, he said his faith was weak, so we did not pray for his healing, but next morning he came again, and after hearing the Word was encouraged and still said his faith was weak, but was being increased. However, immediately after prayer for him he could see well enough to name articles held up before him several feet away, and was being healed according to his faith.

On Saturday arrived at this place and found the dear ones engaged in a precious camp meeting and remained a few days. Bro. Daugherty arrived the evening before, having held a meeting in Arizona. The meeting here has been much blessed of God and his power manifest in the salvation of souls, healing the sick, and miracles have been wrought through the name of the holy child Jesus. At one service about twenty- five persons were anointed for healing of various diseases, one among the number was a man who had been totally deaf in one ear for over forty years, who was instantly healed and perfect hearing restored, insomuch that he could hear anyone speak in a whisper; others had their eyesight restored, and the name of the Lord was glorified. Two of the sisters went to pray for a child that was lying at the point of death, which was healed before they left, and was brought to the meeting the next day perfectly well. Sister Cole and company expect to start for California soon, the Lord willing, to work for God along the Pacific coast. Bro. Daugherty goes to Vinland, Kan. and I expect to reach home in about a week. Yours in Him,

E. E. Byrum.

Dear Trumpet Readers: I do praise God for the sweet peace I have in my soul. I cannot praise him enough for what he has done for me. He took my feet out of the mire and clay, and placed them on the Rock Christ Jesus. I do remember when the Lord first called me, but I did not yield. He still followed after me until I stopped and thought of where I was going and what my doom would be if I did not turn to God and! forsake my sins, but still I thought if I would go to the altar all of my friends would laugh at me; but when I got there I forgot all about that and began to think of eternity. And now when they laugh and make fun of me I do not care as far as for myself, but feel bad because of their own souls. By the help of God I expect to press onward and gain a home in heaven; let come what will I mean to be true. Pray for me. Your sister,

Della Belville.

THE fleeing out of Babylon of all the spiritual and honest, wherever the present truth is preached, is stirring the builders of the great Babel of sectism in every quarter. In about every sectarian sheet that falls into our hands we find an outcry for their Diana. And no wonder, for by this counterfeit churchism they have their living, yea, tare sumptuously.

Now comes to us “THE METHODIST,” a professed holiness organ of Louisville, Ky., date Sept. 25, with an article headed “Ccme-outism and Come-outers” The article covers pretty nearly a page of that paper, and is minus a single text from the word of God in defence of the idea of holy people remaining in the apostate denominations. Neither does the writer have the show of honesty to quote a single passage from the present truth literature. Again we say, why did not Mr. “Rev.” Russell send to the GOSPEL TRUMPET office and get some of our literature, take extracts from it, and prove the doctrine false by the word of God? This we repeat, no opposer of the present truth has ever done to our knowledge. It is a remarkable fact that every pen and voice that is lifted up against this way, makes no use of the word of God, nor of what we really teach. By this fact the more they cry against us the more they must convince honest thinking men that we have the word of God all on our side, and the things we teach they cannot attack. Hence they never attempt to bring the truth of God, nor our own writings against us. But Mr. Russel follows the old rut of all our enemies. First, tells such falsehoods as the following about the saints of God: viz, “They denounce all church organization.” “They separate from the church,” “oppose the visible church.” Now we humbly invite Mr. Russell or any man on earth to take the Bible and any of our writings and prove either of those sayings. We do not separate from the church, but adhere in the only body known in the Bible as the church. We do not denounce all or any church organization at all. We earnestly contend for all the church organization the Bible authorizes, and only reject sect organizations, which are heresies and condemned of God. We do not oppose, but live in the visible church of God. So the writer either willfully or ignorantly falsifies the children of God. The Lord forgive him.

Let us give you a picture of this writer’s babylon — confusion. He says,

Let every child of God who may read this be true to the church of his intelligent choice; she may have unsaved people on her roll; there may be usurpers of authority in her positions of trust; there may be those who would curl the lip of scorn and point the finger of ridicule at the holy child of God; but the church is the Bride of Christ, and shall you and 1 forsake her because adulterers and fornicators try to stain her virtue?”

Here is an institution containing, usurpers, oppressors, and scoffers at holy people, “haters of them which are good,” adulterers and fornicators, and yet this so-called church “is the bride of Christ.” This is casting a slander upon the character of the bride of Christ, and a serious reflection upon the name of Jesus.

He says,

“The apostles and disciples were also members of the visible church.”

Yes, but it was not the falsely so- called Methodist church, nor any of the several hundred modern sects of apostate Christendom. Paul sets forth the church that he belonged to as the body of Christ. See Eph. 1:22:23. Col. 1:18, 24. Eph. 5:31. He calls it agreeable to the prayers of Christ in John 17, the “church of God.” Christ, He informs us, is the door of it, and salvation the only manner of induction, John 10:9. Eph. 2:18. This church is the temple of God, the sanctuary of this dispensation, and into it he said the Ephesian brethren were builded together for a habitation of God through the Spirit. Eph. 2. This only church known to the Bible is a visible church, even as a “city set upon a hill.” Mat. 5:14. It is also an organic body, organized by God through the Holy Spirit. 1 Cor. 12:6 24.

Before the writer ends up he gives us to understand that he belongs to the “Methodist Church.”(?) And also uses these words, “Glory to God for the privilege of membership in the Church of Jesus Christ.” Now we do not hesitate to say that it must either be unscrupulous hypocrisy or disgusting ignorance that would dare to affirm that the Methodist sect is the church of Jesus Christ. There are indeed very few points of agreement between the two.

Jesus built his church — Mat. 16:19. The Wesleys framed the Methodist sect. See M. E. Discipline and history.

The church was founded in the beginning of the first century; Methodism in the eighteenth century. There are seventeen hundred years of a discrepancy.

The body of Christ is one; Methodist bodies over twenty.

There are no sinners in the body of Christ. Sinners chiefly compose the great worldly, proud Methodist institutions.

We might extend this line of distinction clear through between the M. E ism, and the holy body of Christ. But we will now prove by Mr. Russell’s own words that the Methodist sect in which he glories, and which he falsely calls the “Church of Jesus Christ,” is not God’s church at all. Speaking of those who are complete in Christ, outside of all sect folds, he says, “I could but wish that every SAVED ONE OF THEM might see his mistake.” We know that we have made no mistake in obeying that “other voice from heaven,” which says, “come out of her, my people.” But now look at the shameful confusion and inconsistency of this writer. He denominates his sect the “Church of Jesus Christ,” and then admits that there are “SAVED” men outside of it. Reader, can you be duped by such manifest crookedness? Will Jesus Christ save some people and add them to his church, and save others and put them into another fold, or in no church at all? Are there any saved people outside the church of Jesus Christ? Surely not. For “the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved,” “such as were being saved,” the New Version and other translations render more correctly. So all that he saved he added to his church. In fact the two operations are one and the same thing, as seen in John 10:9 But since Mr. Russell confesses that men are in a saved state and yet outside his so-called Church, he confesses the same is not the church of Jesus Christ, not of God at all, but a counterfeit and fraud.

Now we shall send this paper both to the writer of the article under consideration, and to the “Methodist,” and we candidly invite them to take up the doctrine we teach, and refute it if they are able. It is a very strange thing if this way is so bad that our opponents cannot find some Scripture to condemn it. Again, it is strange that those wise sect apologists do not try to overthrow the things we actually teach, and go right to our works to find them instead of misrepresenting us, and then wasting their ammunition on their own false suppositions. But, indeed, all this is not strange to us, since we know that “he that is an heretic — “a sectarian man” — YOUNG — is subverted and sinneth, being condemned of himself. And also knowing that while we abide in the truth, no truth can be set against us. Blessed be the name of the Lord who is our shield and buckler, and Pur defence!

__________

Let us do our whole duty.

_____

We feel the Lord’s hand upon us to say a few words in regard to a duty which we all owe to God and his cause; and it behooves every one of us to perform this duty according to the light and ability which is given us. It is only by doing our WHOLE duty as it is made known, that we can be kept free from the many delusions of Satan, claim all the promises, and hold God to his word. We have the blessed promise that we shall be preserved from all evil, but it is only on condition that we are obedient. God would have his children wake up to the vast responsibility resting upon them in spreading the light and truth by ail the means within their power.

Think of the tens of thousands of poor souls who are led into delusion and error by false prophets who wrest the scriptures to the destruction of their own souls and all those who follow them. 2 Peter 3:16. Matt. 24:11. Dear ones, do you not know that there is a famine in the land (Amos 8-11), and many who are honest at heart are running hither and thither in search of the words of life and truth, looking and longing to know the right way? The devil, quick to see his opportunity and never slow to improve it, sends his messengers, transformed as angels of light, to present that which, to them, appears to be the very thing which they desired; and their poor starving famishing souls drink in the poison that in so many cases proves to be their final destruction. Oh think of the enormous quanity of pernicious literature, destructive to both soul and body, which is scattered broadcast over the land like an overwhelming flood, sweeping myriads of souls into hell every year! As a specimen of how souls are ensnared we here produce the following letters as samples taken from the Watch Tower, an instrument of the devil advocating the Millennial Age to Come theory, and the final redemption of all men, directly contrary to the teaching of the Word. The letters are addressed to the editor.

Dear Brother:

Last October a gentleman called at my house and drew my attention to a book he was selling. I was on the point of refusing when the title Millennial Dawn interested me. I consented to examine it, saw at once it was something I wanted, and ordered all three volumes. After going through them two or three times, to say I was astonished is a very mild expression. Although I had been brought up in the fear of the Lord and in the faith as taught by the Methodist Church, still I had strayed far from all religion, believing that a God who would torment one forever could not be the God of love I had been taught. I was not far from Atheism, but those “Dawns,” thank the Lord, altered all that. I am now trying to serve God, and thank Him sincerely that the colporteur called at my house. I will pray for him, and may his efforts be blessed in spreading the truth. The Dawns having proved such a blessing to me I am anxious that others should have the benefit of the truth which they contain. I enclose Money Order and several addresses. May God spare you long for His work.

Yours in the Faith,

E. E. M.

Dear Brother R.:

God be praised that at last I have willingly yielded to the Spirit’s call through the Word and have left Babylon never to return, and am now happy in Christ my Redeemer. How blessed is the light that hath shined into our hearts; and now we realize fully the words of the Apostle: “And we brethren are not in darkness that that day should overtake us unawares.” I have been reading “Dawns” for about a year and a half. I heard the Spirit’s call through the Word but was so weak and so strongly bound to Babylon that it was hard to throw off the shackles of bondage and enter into the liberty there is in Christ. But he will not break the bruised reed or quench the smoking flax and in his wisdom he sent among us Bro. V. C. Haviland to do colporteur work. Bro. H. sought me out and strengthened me, even as Ananias did Paul, and now I am. in the light; bless His holy name, O my soul, and all that is within me!

Yours in hope of Eternal Life.

F. H. R.

Oh God! What awful deception! Out of the frying pan into the fire (so to speak). You can see that these poor souls and thousands of others thus deceived are in a far worse condition than they were before. Is it not appalling? And this is only one form under which the beast power is operating. Think of the Adventist law teachers, Christian Science, Spiritualism, and the Lord only knows how many other isms and schisms are imposing their false doctrines on the people, some claiming to have the last message to deliver which is, so they say, “Keep the seventh-day Sabbath,” and obey the old law, as the end of all things is at hand. Others claim great power to heal and to perform miracles, which thing they actually do. See 2 Thess. 2:9. Rev. 13:14. And thousands are thus deceived. Still others cry out vehemently against Babylon, calling God’s people out, as you see by the above letters, and then lead them into darker confusion than they were in before. The devil very well knows that a counterfeit that will answer his purpose now, must have almost the exact appearance of the genuine, hence much of the truth must be subtilly interwoven with error, otherwise it would be discovered. Thus the work of the enemy proceeds and is on the increase. My dear brothers and sisters, Jesus shed his life’s’ blood for these precious souls who are thus deceived, the same as he did for you and me. And vast throngs of them are going down to ruin. Oh God! WAKE UP thy people to a sense of their duty. Now some may say, “What more can be done than we are doing?” Preach the whole truth. But says one, “I am not called to preach.” Well, but you have no less a duty to perform. You are aware as to how the devil is using the printing press as one of his chief weapons with which to destroy souls. But praise be to our God, this same weapon is now being used as a mighty engine in the hands of God Almighty to hurl the thunderbolts of his eternal truth at all the works of the enemy, and already the crash is heard of their fall. Consecrated workers are preparing the holy literature (and the press is running almost constantly), in which the Word is set forth so clearly and plainly that no one who is honest can be mistaken; but it must be scattered and distributed, and wherever it goes it will destroy forever in the heart of every honest soul, the false and delusive theories long held as truth, and be the means of setting their captive souls free. But remember we are workers together with him. 2 Cor. 6:1. And all of God’s children especially have a part in this work. Every one should have a supply of the books and tracts on hand to sell, give away, and loan to their neighbors and friends as the Lord would lead. But I hear some say, “We have no means to spare.” Very well, are you a child of God, and do you believe in prayer and its answer from God? If so, pray that he may send you means for this purpose, and if you are really in earnest, God has pledged his word to answer. Many seem to have forgotten or never knew the rule, “Give and it shall be given you.” Luke 6:38. You who have means, try this rule and see if it will not work. If you give with a pure motive, not grudgingly, God will prosper you so that you will have more to give. The books teaching the millennial doctrine and law theory are in thousands of homes in this country and Europe. Most of them costing all the way from twenty-five cents to four or five dollars each. When, if the Sabbath tract and the tract, “Age to Come Doctrine Refuted,” costing but ten cents each, were sent into these homes, they would in the name of God, knock these delusive theories to atoms wherever there is an honest heart. The same may be said of the other books, papers and tracts here produced, when sent forth against the great quanity of poison literature flooding the country. Also I believe God is not pleased to see the TRUMPETS used for wrapping or shelf paper, as I have known many to do. It would be far better when you are through reading them to hand them to your neighbors or send them to friends as the Lord directs, and you will not lose your reward. And now dear ones, in conclusion let us say, God declares in his word that he will send out many hunters and fishers that will hunt his people out from every mountain and hill and out of the holes of the rocks. Jer. 16:14-16. You see how the devil has his hunters and fishers (colporteurs) at work. Is it not high time that the saints of God wake up and see what is required at their hand? Order the little messengers (tracts, books, etc) and scatter them everywhere, and many precious souls will thereby catch the gleaming rays, of the beautiful evening light and shall come weeping home to Zion. They that turn many to righteousness shall shine as the stars forever and ever. Amen. Your saved brother,
