The Backslider’s Return.

_____

I will arise and go to my Father. Luke 15:18.

O holy Spirit, come once more,
And take up thine abode;
Through life direct my passage o’er,
O lead me to my God.

I know my sins have drove thee out,
From off my heart thy throne
And oh! so wretched is my lot
When I am left alone.

To sin I did return once more,
Thy temple I defiled;
I’ve wronged the God I should adore,
O God forgive thy child.

The sins which rest upon my head,
Seem like a mountain high;
Once more apply the blood that’s shed,
And save me, or I die,

I like the prodigal return,
Thy servant Lord to be,
No more to grieve, nor from thee turn,
O Father, pardon me.

My Father sees me from afar,
He hastes to meet his son;
And he embraces me once more,
Forgives the wrong I’ve done.

He on my finger puts a ring,
He makes for me a feast;
His praises now once more I sing;
From sin I am released.

CAN WE FALL?

_____

WHEREFORE the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall. 2 Pet. 2:10. It is a positive truth, as declared by Peter, that if we give diligence, at all times, to make our calling and election sure, we never will fall. It is a glorious, comforting fact, and cheers the humble child of our Father to diligence. But there are so many, who have the theory that they can neglect their duty that God requires of them, and not be diligent to make their calling and election sure and still they can never fall, but remain a child of God. We find Liverpool cursed with this belief the most of any place I ever saw in my life. Most all classes we have met hold to it most tenaciously, and at the same time do not believe we can live without sin. Bro. Henry visited a place the other night, called the Plymouth Brethren. They are the most sectish of all that we have met. They do not allow any to take part, unless they have come into fellowship with them. After meeting he told them he was living without sin and they seemed horrified and said, “Young man, you are deceived, and if you go on in that way you are sure of hell.” Sure of hell for living without sin, and they think they are on the way to heaven by committing sin. Oh, such horrible, ungodly blindness, as I never heard of before! Those same people, also teach, that they can never fall, nor be lost. I have felt for some time, since meeting with so much of this, to write what God has given to me, that, peradventure, it might be a beacon light to help some honest, deluded wayfarer out of the shoals of the deceptions of traditions of men, into the glorious haven and security of the pure gospel truths of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, where all is peace and safety. It is true, there is no need of falling, or backsliding, for the grace of God is abundantly able to supply and keep us from falling if we will trust him. But because he is able to keep us from falling is no proof that he will if we ignore his will and commands and go into sin, for his word says, “He that committeth sin is of the devil.” 1 Jno. 3:8.

There are some scriptures taken alone, which do indeed, seem to bear wonderfully to that belief, and as we go along we shall notice them, with the other side of the subject. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. Jno. 6:54. They conclude that if we have eternal life, that it is to last eternal. Consequently it is impossible for us to lose it, for if we lose it, it is not eternal, but it is only a lack of an understanding. Eternal. What is it? Without beginning or ending; everlasting, endle s, etc. WEBSTER. Then what is eternal life? A life that is eternal, without beginning or ending, everlasting, endless; ceaseless, etc. Now this is enough to settle the whole matter, without further argument. If it is eternal, it always existed, without beginning as well as without end. If, when I received eternal life, that was the beginning of the life that I received, it is not eternal, but if it existed before without beginning, it is eternal. Hence, in answer to the question, what is eternal life, we will let the word of God answer. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. Col. 3:4. Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth on me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. Jno. 11:25. Hence, “Christ is our life,” and though we were dead we are made alive by believing in Christ. How? “And this is the record that God hath given to us, eternal life, and this life is in his Son.” Consequently, he that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life, 1 Jno. 5:11, 12. Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Jno. 14:6.

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 1 Jno. 4:9. Then what is the eternal life? As we have noticed the [eternal] life is Christ. Now the question would arise, is Christ eternal? In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him and without him was not anything made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. Jno. 1:1-4. And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. 14. Christ was in the beginning, with God, the Father, and it now only remains to show that God, the Father, was without beginning, to show that Christ was. Yet there are other scriptures, definite, to show that Christ was and is eternal. For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. Col. 2:9. All the fullness of the Godhead bodily was in him, (Christ). God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory, 1 Tim. 3:16. That God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself. 2 Cor. 5:19. It is very evident then, that Christ was God manifest in the flesh, to reconcile the world unto himself. God came down in the body of flesh to make reconciliation for man’s lost estate, that he might be reconciled unto the Father, or himself, by Christ Jesus. God, the Father, is the God everywhere present, governing the universe, ruling in his omnipotence, majesty and glory, supreme over all things.

God, the Son, is God manifest in the flesh, to sacrifice himself for our redemption. Yet it is God, for we have already shown by the word and need not repeat it. But, that thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: which in his time he will show, who is the blessed and only potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords; who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power (AIONION, Gr.) eternal. 1 Tim. 6:14, 16. The German is, Dem set Ehre und ewiges (eternal) Reich. Amen. The French is, a qui appartienuent l’honneur et la puissauce eternelle (eternal). It is the same word in the nineteenth verse and there it is rendered eternal.

If he has power eternal, he must be eternal. Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory forever and ever. 1 Tim. 1:17. The Greek is honor and glory for the AIONAS TON- AIONION. The German is, Sei Ehre und Preis in Ewigkeit! (Eternity.) The whole teaching of the scriptures is that he is eternal. Christ was the king eternal and the only wise God. He is declared to be king by the word. Christ is the life, and the eternal life, for he is eternal. How do we receive the eternal life? But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have eternal life. Jno. 20:31. Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ, is bora of God. 1 Jno. 5:1. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. Jno. 1:11, 12. Some people say, I believe that Jesus is the Christ and I know I am born of God; yet I know I commit sin. The word says, And by him all that believe are justified from all things. Acts 13:39. Consequently, whosoever that believeth that Jesus is the Christ, is born of God. How? By being justified from all things. Hence, when we believe in Christ we are born of God, and are justified from all things, and have received eternal life by receiving Christ. “For he that hath the Son hath life, and he that hath not the Son hath not life.” The only way to get eternal life is by getting the eternal Son of God to dwell in us, then we have the life that existed from all eternity, and to all eternity, and whosoever is born of God sinneth not; for his seed [Christ] remaineth in him and he cannot sin. because he is born of God. 1 Jno. 3:9. We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. 1 Jno. 5:18. John says, “We know it.” We know then, as well, that they who are committing sin are not born of God. Therefore, He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting, eternal life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him. Jno. 3:36. Those who are committing sin shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on them, because they do not believe on the only begotten Son of the Father. For if they believed on him they would be justified from all things, that is, they would please God in all things they do and say.

Now we have established that fact that the way to get eternal life, Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me he will keep my words; and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him — Jno. 14:23. Again, Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. — Rev. 3:20. It is not simply an assent of the mind that Jesus is the Christ, but the believing to the extent. from the heart, that we are justified from all things. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. — Rom. 10:10. It is with the heart (or affections). Philip said. If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. — Acts 8:37. It appears very evident now, by the word, that we obtain this eternal life by accepting Christ, but now arises the question, if the life is eternal can we lose it? Since he hath said, And this is the will of the Father, which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I shall lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. — Jno. 6:39. Some argue from this text, that of all whom the Father hath given him, none will, nor can be lost, but they all will be eventually saved; whether they sin or not. Jesus says, It is the will of the Father that he should lose nothing and God will save them, because it is his will. But that is extremely nonsense, as though God will save people and make automatic beings out of them, and they could not help themselves. God does not even will that any of the wicked should perish, but be saved. It is as much the will of God that all sinners should be saved, as that all that get saved should not be lost. Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord God: and not that he should return from his ways, and live? — Ezek. 18:23. For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord God: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye. Verse 32. As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked: but that the wicked turn from his way and live: etc. — Ezek. 33:11. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. — 1 Tim. 2:4. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. — 2 Pet. 3:9.

The word tells us that it is the Father’s will that none whom he hath given to the Son should be lost, also he willed that all should come to repentance and live. If then, because he willed it so and none who are saved can be lost, it is also true that he has willed that none of the wicked should be lost: therefore all men would be saved, but that would make a plain contradiction in the word, for he saith, The wicked shall be turned into hell and all the nations that forget God. — Psa. 9:17. So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite’s hope shall perish. — Job. 8:13. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believeth not shall be damned. — Mark 16:16. Because God does will that none of those should be lost is no evidence that he will save them unless they obey his word and forsake sin, and live without sin. One argument from the text is, that he will raise him up at the last day. There is no argument in that, for he tells us all shall be raised. Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in their graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth, they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, to the resurrection of damnation. — Jno. 5:38, 39. Is it possible after we get into Christ to get out again? Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. — 1 Jno. 2:24. If it abide in you, you have the Father and the Son, but the parity of language is, if you do not, you have not the Father and the Son. Now the word “if” in the text denotes apossibility of not continuing in the Son.

The Lord preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy. — Psa. 145:20. He preserveth those who love him. Who is it that loves? He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me, etc. If a man love me he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings, etc. — Jno. 14:21-24. Jesus tells us very plain who it it is that loves him, and who does not love him. Those who love him keep his words. His words say, Sin no more. Let every one that nameth the name of the Lord depart from iniquity. — 2 Tim. 2:19. Be ye holy as I am holy. — 1 Pet. 1:16; Lev. 11:44. Also, But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation. Verse 15. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also to walk even as he walked. — 1 Jno. 2:6. Be ye therefore perfect even as your Father in heaven is perfect. — Matt. 5:48. Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection. — Heb. 6:1. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you. — Matt. 5:44.

Many other of the precious promises, which our Lord hath given us. And he saith, He that loveth me keepeth my words: and I and my Father will come unto him and make our abode with him. But those who do not keep his words, they do not dwell with him. Consequently, if they have once had Christ and then afterwards ceased to love him, and keep his words, he dwells with them no longer, but departs from them. Therefore when they obeyed his word they have Christ, but when they disobeyed his word Christ left them, and when they had Christ they had eternal life, for it is in Christ, but when Christ departed the eternal life left them also. Hence, those he preserves are those who obey, or keep his words. But those who do not keep his words he destroys. — Psa. 145:20. God declares this wonderful truth in his word through his holy prophets and apostles. Behold the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save: neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: but your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. — Is. 59:1, 2. If I have the Lord Jesus, who is my eternal life, and sin, my sin separates between me and the Lord; so then the Lord is not with me, but is gone from, and the eternal life is gone too. Some say, “We will never get out of Christ.” But Jesus to the contrary, when he says, Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away. — Jno. 15:2. He teaches us here that some who do not bear fruit will be separated from the vine; which is Christ. Then lust when it is conceived, bringeth forth sin; and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. — Jas. 1:15. The wages of sin is death. — Rom. 6:23. It is impossible for us to commit sin and not receive the wages of our own doings, death. And when we are dead in sin we are separated from Christ and void of life.

To be continued.

ECHOES FROM GLORY.

_____

We are thankful to the dear saints for the interest they have manifested in our forthcoming song book. Some began to send us orders before our regular announcement in the Trumpet, and we hope to have a rapid income of orders. The work will cost us all of $800, but we have no doubt God will provide the means. Our electrotype plates are being made in Cincinnati, O. and will be rushed out as fast as we can furnish the songs, as we are taking great pains on both the words and music, and the Lord is greatly helping us. Truly the songs are very precious. But a very few in the Anthems will compare with the glory of the new inspirations from the Lord. Simplicity, as well as beauty characterizes most of the hymns.

Would say that some of the dear saints were very anxious we should publish the book in character notes. For our part, we are convinced as well as they that it would have made the songs easier learned by beginners in music, and therefore have desired greatly to publish in that way, but those notes are under patent and the plates come a good deal higher; besides, we could not get the work done nearer than Philadelphia, and much time would have been required to get proofs, to and from us, and to have gotten the work published.

The dear brethren, who send in your orders, will not expect us to acknowledge the receipt of the same by letter or card, as that would take time and expense. The mails are very sure and we will take pains to enroll every name, with address and credit, so I think when you properly send your orders, it will bring you a book as soon as issued, which will be about the middle of May. So, dearly beloved, we take this means of thanking all who have and who will send us your name and the price of the book — 50cts. Those churches that expect us to visit you shortly after the book is out. need not go to the trouble of sending in advance, as it will do as well when we come.

HE IS JUST THE SAME TO DAY.

Who forgiveth all thine iniquities, who healeth all thy diseases. Pa. 103:3.

AND ye shall serve the Lord your God, and he shall bless thy bread and thy water, and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee. — Ex. 23:25. The language of our text suggests the thought that sickness is the result of breaking some of God’s laws, either spiritual or physical; if so, then a holy walk in humble obedience to God’s will insures us of the promise in our text. All affliction is the result of some sin or transgression, or is the direct work of the devil. See Acts 10:38, how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. Read Psalms 107:17-20; also Lam. 38-40. Out of the mouth of the Most High proceedeth not evil and good. Wherefore doth a living man complain; a man for the punishment of his sins? Let us search and try our ways and turn again to the Lord. Matt. 9:2. — Jesus said to the sick of the palsy, Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee. And the Jews found fault, but Jesus said to them, Whither is easier to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise and walk? Making healing and the forgiveness of sins both conditioned on faith in the Christ of the Bible, who is to those who believe on him both health and salvation. Praise God forever! Amen. Read also Mark 2:5-12; and John 5:14.

There is no doctrine more plain in the word of God than that Jesus came to save and heal his people. See Isaiah 53:4, 5; also Matt. 8:17. That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying. Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses. We find in Matt. 4:23, that after the temptation he went about teaching and preaching the gospel, and healing all manner of disease among the people. So we see that he commenced his ministry by preaching the gospel, and healing the sick who believed on him. He was at once Savior and physician. He is just The same to day. Heb. 13:8, Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and forever. See Heb. 1:12. And he gave the same commission to his disciples. — Jno. 17:18. He said. As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. In the 20th verse he said. Neither pray I for these alone but for them also which shall believe on me through their word. So when he was about to go to the Father he commissioned his ministers to do the same work. He said in Mark 10:15. Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature; he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe: in my name shall they cast oat devils, etc., they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. Also in James 5:13-16.

We see in James 5:16 the command: Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. We see here that James recognized the truth taught in the word that disease is the result of transgression, and required them to confess their faults in order to be healed. And my dear brethren. here is the cause of many cases of failure, and much dishonor to the cause of Christ. The ministers seem to think that if they are called by a professed saint, it is their duty to lay on hands without asking any questions, but it we study the word we find that it is important to examine the consecration and find the cause of the disease: and if they are willing to remove the cause God is always willing to remove the disease. There are some who come to meeting and are most always suffering with headache, and want the elders to lay on hands at nearly every meeting. when at the same time they are so much of a slave to tea that they carry a parcel in their pocket, so that they will not be without it. for most of the saints do not use it, knowing that it is a very fruitful source of headache. Now if such want to be healed let them stop doping themselves with the poison which causes the disease. Anil many other things might be mentioned, such as complaints of women who still persist in violating the laws of nature, which are the laws of God that are to govern their bodies, wearing corsets and violating the laws of health in many ways, and also the laws of generation, bringing on themselves disease, and then come to be healed. The elders lay on hands and the work is not done, or if it is, they continue the same course and bring the disease back again, and the cause of Christ suffers dishonor and reproach.

Dear children of God, let us walk in all the light. Paul says that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. So when we learn that it is Christ’s mission both to save our souls and heal and preserve our bodies, we ought to believe it. And if we believe it. let us act upon it and glorify God. He says in the Psalms. Call upon me in your affliction and I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. Our faith rests on our consecration. If our body is all consecrated to God he says he is able to keep that which we have committed to him, and I believe it and so he does it. Praise his name! We must learn never to tempt God by exposing our bodies unnecessarily, but when duty calls we can go anywhere in the name of Jesus and he will protect us. We have driven about two- thousand miles since last June, in an open buggy, and in January we drove twenty-six miles on the coldest day of the season, mercury down to ten below zero, and God kept us and we enjoy good health. Oh for a forward move in this line among God’s children! Some who were once strong in faith are going back to the doctor and drug store, and yet claim to be all consecrated and sanctified wholly. Oh, my brethren, there certainly is a fault some where. Oh, for Jesus’ sake let us push the battle and not let the devil gain any ground on us. We read in the word that if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. Amen and amen.

Your brother all on the altar for Christ and his gospel, and precious souls.

A DREAM AND ITS INTERPRETATION.

_____

BELIEVING it would be to the glory of God to tell my dream and how it was interpreted to me, I will procceed to do so. Would say right here that I hardly ever pay any attention to dreams, but this one seemed to have a certain significance which at the time I could not understand.

THE DREAM.

It was a short time previous to my escape from Babylon. It appeared that I was in a large field when suddenly it seemed that there was a great number of cattle in the field. They were very healthy and fat looking, and had very long crooked horns. I wondered at them looking so fine, as there did not seem to be any pasture in the field: everything seemed to be dry and dead. At last the cattle began to bellow and come directly toward me as though they would gore me to death. I ran for a place of safety, the cattle following me, but at last I came to a fence known as a worm fence: it was strong and high at some places: at other places it was very weak. When once on the other side of this fence I thought I was safe. I looked at my surroundings and I found myself in another field similar to the out I had just left. Thinking I was now safe from those angry cattle. I began to rejoice and be glad in my heart, when I was horrified to see this field suddenly full of cattle that were just as angry as those were in the field I had just left. Again I looked for a way of escape. At one place I saw an opening in the ranks of the frenzied cattle. I started for this point and again I was saved from the horns of those angry cattle. I his time I came to a fence which was very strong: it seemed to be new, and it was impossible for any cattle to break it down or get over it. I made my way over this fence, when I found myself in a road that was narrow and very straight. I looked to see if there was any beast there to hurt me, but I was made to rejoice that now I was surely safe from all danger. Oh how happy I was that now I could go on my way rejoicing, because there could nothing gain access to this way that would harm me. While at work since my escape from Babylon, this dream was suddenly recalled to my memory. And then the Spirit of God revealed the meaning of the dream to me.

THE INTERPRETATION.

The large field was the M. E. sect, the largest of Protestant sects. The cattle that appeared to be so fat were were those members of this sect that were bloated and puffed up with self righteousness. The long crooked horns were the official power of the sect. These would try to gore and horn God’s children when they would testify against tobacco, base-ball games, merry-go-rounds, etc. Sometimes they would bellow right in the meetings. These cattle or sectarians are spoken of in Ezek. 34:20-22. “Therefore thus saith the Lord God unto them. Behold I, even I, will judge between the fat cattle and between the lean cattle. Because ye have thrust with side and with shoulder, and pushed all the diseased with your horns, till ye have scattered them abroad. Therefore will I save my flock, and they shall no more be a prey: and I will judge between cattle and cattle.” The second field I came to was the Presbyterian sect. The fence between these two fields which was very weak at some places, very strong at other places, was the division between these two sects. This carnal fence which divides these sects is strong and high in some places; in other places weak and almost broken down. Read the disciplines of both of these sects. The Spirit warned me that having escaped from one seek (M. E.), if I should join the Presbyterian or any other, I would be in as much danger

Page 3

of having my spiritual life gored out as there was in the sect or field of cattle I had just escaped from, and that all sect cattle would gore just as hard against the truth as did the above. The strong new fence I saw was the power of God. The straight and narrow road was that spoken of by our Savior in Matt. 7:14. “Because strait is the gate and narrow is the way which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” And take notice, in the dream no beast could get on this road. The Spirit then showed me that this corresponds with what Isa. prophesied, in 35th chapter, beginning at the 8th verse. “And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called the way of holiness: the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein. Praise the Lord! I would rather be a fool for Jesus and gain heaven, than to be wise in my own conceit and be lost forever. “No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there: but the redeemed shall walk there. And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.” — Verses 9 and 10.

I have never made but one profession of religion, never belonged to but one sect. They gored and hooked so much that I have no desire to join another. God’s sheep has been scattered and penned up in Babylon; hut praise the Lord, he is seeking out his sheep. See Ezek. 34:12, “For thus saith the Lord God; behold 1, even I, will both search my sheep and seek them out. As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered, so will I seek out my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day. Dark Romanism and cloudy Protestantism. Read all of the 34th chapter of Ezekiel. Jesus said. There shall be one fold and one shepherd. Glory to God! He is among his sheep now and is placing them in the true fold. He is leading them upon good pasture and they are growing strong. And his sheep hear and know his voice, and they follow him, and praise the Lord, they never follow a stranger or deceiver because they know not the voice of strangers. He said, I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd giveth his life for his sheep. See John 10th chapter. This is the pasture or food of Christ’s sheep, for he says in John 6:51. — “I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any man eat of this bread he shall live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” Read this chapter to the end and see how beautiful and plain it is. Well. I praise the Lord that he is my shepherd and I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures, and leadeth me beside still waters, and my trust is in the Lord. They that trust in the Lord shall be as Mount Zion which cannot be removed, but abideth forever. As the mountains are round about Jerusalem so the Lord is round about his people from henceforth even forever. With a fortification like this we can withstand all the battering rams and forces of the enemy, and can say with Paul, Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ. 2 Cor. 2:14. The dear Lord bless these plain words to his glory, as I believe he was in my dream. I would ask an interest in all the prayers of God’s true children, that I may be willing to ever follow wheresoever he leadeth.

Yours in the one fold,

E. H. Yuncker.

News from the Field.

__________

Springfield. Ohio, Mar. 27, 1893. Yesterday was a day of God’s salvation in the saints’ Little Bethel here. Two souls were converted, two or three others restored and sanctified. Next Lord’s day some eight or ten will be buried with Christ in baptism, the Lord willing.

The people quite generally are taking steps to build a house of worship, for the worship of God and preaching of the pure gospel in the village of Lawrenceville. Means are being subscribed, material will be provided, and after harvest the house will no doubt be erected, as the kind truth-loving people have a mind to work. God bless them. Amen.

Cornell, Neb., Mar. 28, 1893.

Dear Saints: We closed meeting last evening with precious victory. Eighteen partook in the ordinances of washing the saints’ feet. Baptisimal services on Sunday. Eight were buried with Christ in baptism. The people received the truth with ready minds, searched the scriptures to see if these things were so. The truth has spread all over this part of the country and new fields are opening. We were glad to meet dear brother and Sister Green, for we had not met them for over two years. But God has kept them, and is leading them out into the fields of usefulness. Brother Green was ordained by the laying on of hands. We believe God will make him very useful. Also Brother and Sister Krieble, of Kenesaw, labored faithfully through this meeting. We go from here to Levant, Kan. Those that desire to have us visit the different churches on way east, can direct to Levant, Kan. We expect to get our tabernacle from Denver and bring it east with us. Your brother saved to the uttermost,

James Willis.

Dime, Pa., Mar. 28, 1892.

Dear Saints, Greeting: To day I am saved and sanctified, and humbly trusting the Lord. I remained in Pittsburg, Pa. eight days preaching every day but one, and sometimes twice. Found six different places in the two cities where the people are very hungry for the truth. And many are anxious for us to come with the Floating Bethel, as it will reach the people of every part of the two cities. Several of the preachers have already forsaken Babylon. I preached once in Rochester, Pa. where quite a number have fled out of the sects, one was a Presbyterian preacher, and many of his former members following him, also dear Brother Reader and family. I believe the Lord is using him much in the work there. They have a nice new house for worship there. There was general conviction upon the people and many held up their hands for prayer. I am satisfied the Lord does not want us to spend his time in the burnt-over fields where all have heard the truth, and no more are willing to obey. The Lord may use a pastor to feed his sheep and strengthen the weak, etc., but his flying messengers are to run to and fro. Oh how our heart cries to God for laborers in his vineyard!

THE FLOATING BETHEL.

I suppose the one we intended to buy is sold, as I cannot hear from the owners. The one most suitable we have found is at Pittsburg. Size 16x 120 ft., two decks, good floors, oak bottom and about 200 chairs, for $600. I think it will better to buy a new flat about 26 by 100 ft. and put in a floor and cover and use the curtains of the tabernacle for the sides. If we do this a car load of lumber will be needed. If any of the saints can favor us in this let us know. Address us Grand Junction, Mich. I have received for this purpose $96.95 in cash.

Yours all on the altar,

G. T. Clayton.

Dearly Beloved of the Lord: God ever bless you. The work is blessed of God and souls are moving out for God. Hallelujah! Last Saturday night while preaching on the overcoming, in which God did wonderfully bless his word, one dear man who had been converted in our meetings, said, I am not an overcomer yet, for I am not dead; so he moderately gave his little boy to some one and walked to the altar and I had to leave the rest of the sermon till some other time. He really received an experience from God, and shouted and praised God. He testified to a second definite work wrought in him and has been wonderfully kept ever since shouting and praising God. All glory to Jesus! Sunday morning Bro. McNuff’s wife and daughter went to the altar and consecrated for sanctification. His daughter had been to the altar before for pardon. She had a hard death to die in consecrating a worldly companion, but made the consecration. Sunday night the wife of the man who was sanctified Saturday night came to the altar before we began to sing an invitation and was sanctified. She was converted since we came here and was an awful drinker. Monday night following, three were at the altar, two were drunkards. They renounced all sin and drink. Wednesday night a bright talented man came forward and renounced his sins, drink, etc., and gave his heart to God. Last night (Friday) two came to the altar without going after them and consecrated for sanctification, and one got an especial experience. Glory to God! Several places seem to be opening for meetings. Last night two women were at the meetings and very much interested and said they needed more fire at their place and would try and make arrangements for us to go there and preach. We are praying God to send two or three helpers. Especially some singers, also some preachers, for this work is going to spread over this country rapidly. There is nothing here scarcely of much spiritual importance. Most have a dead profession without any spirituality. We are praying God to send some one or two good German workers to accompany me to Germany. Would like two good singers, who sing and talk that language, for I feel God wants me to go to that country soon, perhaps about the first of May. The Lord willing, Bro. Henry and whoever the Lord leads to come to help him, expects to remain here in England and push the work. The people are hungry for the bread of life. Who will consecrate to the service of the Lord to come to the help of the Lord against the powers of darkness? We can see a glorious work ahead for our God, and who will have a share in the great reward at the end of the harvest? God witnesses to my soul as I write of the glorious move in the advancement of his kingdom to the utmost ends of the earth. Hallelujah! Soon all nations shall hear the glorious call, for his coming is near, and we do not want to sit down at home and spend precious time that belongs to God our Father when souls are crying for light. Oh what will it profit us to hoard up money just to be burned up in the near, mighty conflagration of all things! I would rather have a reward in the kingdom of heaven when he comes than all the riches of this world just to be burned up at his coming. His coming doubtless is near, then all who love the Lord, awake to duty and go forth swaying the sword of Emanuel against the armies of Gog and Magog, and this battle of the great day, for it is at hand; and who will be able to stand?

Dearly Beloved of the Lord: May the grace and peace of the Lord be multiplied to all. We are saved and trusting in the Lord, and my soul does magnify his love and keeping power. The power of darkness is great in this place, but the power of God in my soul is greater, for he keeps me all the time sweet in my soul. I am trusting all things in the hands of the Lord. We would like to have some of God’s ministers come and stay with the church at Covert, if the Lord leads to come.

Dear Readers: I am rejoiced that I am blessedly saved by the blood of Jesus, justified and sanctified. I praise God for what he has done for me. He has picked me out of the mire and has put my feet on a solid rock, for which I praise Jesus. Glory be to his Holy name! And I mean to press forward. This is my first testimony. I am trusting He will keep me on the narrow path till I see the end of a Christian life.

Dearly Beloved Saints: This morning finds me still saved and kept. Glory to God! I am saved and sanctified wholly. I feel the love of God to day in my soul. I can look back and see just where I stood. I was a sinner and just as vile as a sinner could be, and the blessed Lord called me to repent of my sins. I joined the Baptist sect and lived there 17 long years an up and down hill christian(?), and I seemed to think that God had a work for me to do, and I began to pray for God to show me what to do. I offered my body a liying sacrifice to God. I promised God I would obey him if it cost my life. It almost cost me my life, but God said his grace would be sufficient, and the Lord has delivered me. His blood cleanseth me from all sin. I am now out in the glorious evening light. Pray for me and my family.

Yours in love,

Dear Brethren in Christ Jesus: Grace, mercy and peace be multiplied unto you all. Well beloved, I can say to the glory of God that I am saved with an everlasting salvation. Blessed be the name of the Lord! Since the Lord sanctified my soul, wicked men and devils have convened to destroy my spiritual life, but bless the Lord, it has been impossible. God’s word says, “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper.” Jesus says no one is able to pluck us out of his hands. Paul also says, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or peril, or sword? Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Dear Trumpet Readers’: I know it is the will of God that I should write my testimony. About six weeks ago I came to the Jubilee Mission Hall a rebel and far away from God, and possessed of an evil spirit. The Spirit of God whispered to my soul, Now or never. I got up and fell at the feet of Jesus, and besought him for mercy and he forgave me, and I became a child of God and was justified. I found there were two wills in my heart, the will of God and the carnal will, but through the favor and grace of Christ I was kept without sin and I presented my soul and body to the Lord a living sacrifice; and I was accepted, through the power of the eternal Sptrit, and the sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ. My heart became pure and the will of God now reigns in my heart. I am sanctified. I praise God for sending his servants, Achor and Henry, to preach the living truth. If it had not been for them preaching the pure gospel by the Holy Ghost I would yet be in my sinful state as I was before. May the blessing of God follow these few lines to whosoever may read them.

From a redeemed one, saved from tobacco, drink and all evils.

Dear Saints of God: God bless you all and keep you saved and unspotted from the world. Amen. Hallelujah to the Lamb forever, for salvation that keeps me saved and free from all sin each day of my life! How my soul is filled with praise to God this morning. I have complete victory in my soul. As the sun is shining brightly over God’s earth so is the Son of righteousness shining in my soul. And he fills my heart with glory. I am not tired of serving the Lord and never expect to be.

I want to tell of some of God’s wonderful goodness to the children of men. The dear Lord has done a grand and glorious work for his children here. We know God can heal the body, by experience, then we have his word. Praise his Holy name! Our Bro. Charlie Christ came from Murdock Sunday to meeting. He was suffering very much from a kick from a horse. He could not rest in any position, especially lying down, the pain was so great. He seemed to be worse Monday morning. While at worship that morning we prayed earnestly for God to heal him. God says if we ask we shall receive. If ye abide in me and my words abide in you, ask what you will and it shall be done. Praise God it is so. We arose from prayer and began singing, and Bro. Charlie began walking the floor and singing and praising God, and then leaped and praised God for healing. Glory to God!

I must give God the glory and tell how he healed me. Some time in Jan. I was taken very sick and sent for two of the sisters, yet the enemy tried to get us to have a doctor, for I was in a very dangerous way. As for myself I thought I had no faith; I wanted to trust the others to have faith in God, but God showed me I had to trust in him and not lean on someone else. I was almost discouraged, and I said, Lord there is no one to trust but you; and then this promise came to me: there is nothing impossible with God. So they said if I was willing to trust myself in God’s hands, all right. Of course we all trusted in God, but I thought I had no faith. But praise God for a little faith, even enough to overcome the enemy; that is all we need. I would think, what can a doctor do? I felt if I should have a doctor to come I would lose all the salvation I had. I kept my bed for several days. On Sunday morning I was very weak. Bro. and Sister Markwell came and stopped to see me as they were going to meeting. I told her I did not know when I would be up, as she had said something to me about not being up. They did not say much. I felt as though I should be anointed for healing, but did not tell them so. But in the afternoon several of the saints came in and prayed, anointed and laid on bands in the name of our Lord Jesus, and immediately I was healed of the disease. I got up, dressed and sat up about two hours, the longest for over a week. My body was so weak I went to bed to rest, and not over exhaust my body. In a few days I could help work some, then I took cold, but got over it all right. Then I took the La Grippe, but God healed me of it all. Praise his holy name! I am well now, both soul and body and I do give God all the glory. I told the saints when they came in the afternoon, I wanted to be anointed, so God wanted his word to be fulfilled to the very letter. God moved on Sister Markwell for me the morning before she came. So I do believe God’s word, for his Spirit and word do agree. Praise God! I am saved, sanctified and satisfied in Jesus, willing to live for him and do his holy will in everything. Pray for me.

Your sister under the blood,

Sarah B. Brown.

The following shows how the mighty Spirit of truth is working in the hearts of all who are near enough to God to receive Spirit impressions, or who have enquiring minds enough to read the Bible for the real object of finding the truth as it is in Jesus. Truly God is sweeping through the nations with an awful searching eye, finding out all who are of honest heart, and leading them out of all the cages of deception. Amen.

Rockford, Ill., Mar. 20, 1893.

Dear Friends: I saw a notice of your people in the newspapers and am very anxious to learn more about you, as the remarkable cures effected show that the gifts of the Spirit which belong to the true church of Christ have been revived among you. Showing that you have a power the popular churches so manifestly lack. Christianity is what Jesus Christ was when he was on earth. Popular Christians, and especially ministers are about as different as can be, from what Jesus Christ was.
Long I have desired to find a people who are actually living as did Christ. I have desired to cast in my lot with such a people, to live and work with them. I could not satisfy my aspirations in England. So I came to this country, and have sought far and wide. Have been to Dunkards, Mennonites and others, and am still searching. It may be you are the very people I am in search for. I came out of the church of England of which two of my brothers are ministers. Please write me as to your faith and practice, and let me know how and where I may come among you and have part in the spiritual blessings you enjoy. You have my heartiest congratulations on your having leaped over the barriers of worldly religions.
Yours for truth.
Thomas C. Beedham.

LET US FOLLOW CHRIST.

“Nevertheless whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. Brethren, be followers together of me and mark them which walk so, as ye have us for an example. For many walk of whom I have told you often and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.” — Phil. 3:16-19. But they have not all obeyed the gospel, for Esaias saith, Lord who hath believed our report? — Rom. 10:16. How our heart is made to ache and we are made to weep, when we think how much our dear Savior has done to redeem souls from the awful pit, and yet sometimes we see some claiming to be out in the evening light, and some would be teachers, claiming to be called of God to preach the everlasting gospel, — we see them going about sowing the seeds of discord among God’s true children. Busybodies in other men’s matters. Oh may God pity such souls for Jesus’ sake, and help them to walk on the Bible line, that they may cut off occasion for them that desire occasion. Now in Heb. 12:12-15. we read, “Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; and make straight paths for for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed. Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.” Now in St. Jno. 14:15, Jesus says, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” And in 13:34, 35 he says, “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples if ye have love one to another.” Jno. 15:4, 8, — Abide in me and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. Herein is my Father glorified that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. Are we bearing fruit for Jesus? He says, Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, he taketh away, and every branch that beareth fruit he purgeth it that it may bring forth more fruit. Praise God for the purging! But some may get oppressof the devil, scatter an evil name on the children of God, get in darkness and then take this for the purging, and that the trying of your faith is much more precious than gold, etc. Oh dear ones, let us draw near to God, be reconciled to our brethren. Jesus says we should be one, even as he and the Father are one. Praise God for the oneness! Fellowship is God united. Amen! But some separate themselves, having not the Spirit, and then go about to poison the minds of the little ones.

Now if this article should come into the hands of any such who have seen deceived by the enemy, oh for Jesus’ sake and your souls’ sake, draw near to God, and pray him to show your true condition; and say, Lord I will do anything to be restored into covenant favor; and then do what God shows you to do, and you will soon be restored. The devil is a wonderful deceiver, insomuch that he will deceive the very elect if possible. When he cannot get souls to yield to any of his temptations in any other way, he cause some wonderful thing to be published on some brother or sister and then get souls to looking at them, instead of Christ. 2 Cor. 13:5. — Examine yourselves whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? Gal. 6:1 — “Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual restore such a one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.” Not tell it to all you meet before you tell the brother or sister. “Let all your things be done with charity.” — 1 Cor. 16:14.

Let us all endeavor by the grace of God to keep our eyes on Jesus, who was our example in all things, who when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he was persecuted, he threatened not, but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously. I am your sister, all on the altar, justified, sanctified and satisfied with Christ. I say satisfied because there was a time when I was hungering and thirsting and longing for something that would satisfy; but when I came to Jesus, put all on the altar, he sanctified the gift, and then I ceased to hunger and thirst. He that is hungering and thirsting after righteousness shall be filled. Oh bless the Lord for the satisfying portion! Yea, my cup runneth over. Praise God forever and, ever!

Dear Saints: Some one that loves to see the gospel spread, sent the paper the GOSPEL TRUMPET, some tracts and a book entitled, Divine Healing of Soul and Body, to the address of my father D. Keck. For which we return many thanks, and a God bless you, for the blessings we derived therefrom. And when read, we distributed the Trumpets. While I was reading the book, I found the scripture so fitly framed together that it built up my faith, to such a height and strength that I could reach out and take hold of his free and bountiful blessings, and claimed the richest promises as mine. I surrendered soul and body as a living sacrifice wholly to the Lord. My soul is cleansed, my body strengthened, and have his abiding peace. Oh how I love the Bible; it is my joy and delight!

I feast on the hidden manna, for I am a child of God, an heir with my elder brother, the meek and lowly Savior. What riches, what honor, what glory, to him that overcometh! For “he that overcometh, shall inherit all things.”

When we look back at the life of Christ, when on earth, the Suffering on the cross; we can see that “surely he hath borne our grief and carried our sorrows.” “Himself took our infirmities and bear our sickness.” It makes the sorrows and trials of our present age sink in insignificance, to view the past, to look around us and see the many promises for the present, “for as thy days thy strength shall be.” Then to see the bright glimpse of the future. What unfathomable love we see in it all, on the part of God, towards us unworthy humanity. I can also testify of his ability and willingness to heal the body.

During the first week in Feb., 1884, on arriving home from prayer meeting I slipped on the ice and injured my foot so badly, that I was obliged to sit on the lounge, and have the foot also to rest upon it, all through the year. In the month of Oct., I lost my voice through paralysis. The evening of the tenth of Jan. 1885, all the family had been away from home except father and me, then I read in the “TIMES OF REFRESHING,” about going and telling Jesus the desire of our hearts. Then I thought, O I wish I could sing loud praises and walk again! Immediately the thought presented itself, “Try me as your physician.” Now I had sincerely desired, so offered, believed, accepted, obeyed, and attempted to sing, and the first word was as easy, clear and loud as ever.

I arose and walked away from the lounge without those detestable crutches, which I was obliged to use all that time. The next morning I went to Sunday school, arose and testified to what the Lord had done, and that it is as easy for him to say, Rise up and walk, as to say, Thy sins are forgiven.

I had employed several good physicians, hoping for relief, but disappointed. I do not despise medical skill, but have not employed one since. I prefer the great Physician. Since then not a sound of my voice, nor my foot has failed me.

Your sister saved, cleansed, healed. All glory to the Lord!

Ella S. Keck.

Dear Trumpet Family: We feel that it is to the glory of God for us to write our testimony. We are all given up to do the Lord’s will in all things. Glory to God! We would like for some of the holy ministers to come out here and preach the word, for this is a hard city.

Your saved brother and sister in Christ,

Dear Trumpet Readers: As it has been some time since I have had a word to the dear saints and all the dear friends who read this paper, I can say for one who has realized the trying of faith and persecutions, that I am still saved and enjoying myself and with Jesus in my soul. Praise his holy name for his wonderful saving and keeping power! Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord.

Your saved sister,

I can just say that my name is written in the Lamb’s book of life and my highest aim in this life is to glorify the name of Jesus, whom I dearly love, praise the Lord! I love the Lord with all my heart and soul and all that is within me. We have many trials and persecutions. Pray for me, that my faith fail not. I am afflicted in body. All pray that I may know just how to take hold of the promises and be healed, if the Lord will. Also pray for my blind daughter, that she may receive her eyesight, if the Lord wills. We are here where the word of God has never been preached in its purity.

Dear Trumpet Readers: God bless you all and keep you saved in him. My testimony to day is that I am saved and sanctified, all given up to do God’s will in all things. Praise his holy name! I know that if I do not forsake all and work for Jesus I never can keep saved, as obedience brings peace and happiness, while disobediance brings sorrow and sadness of heart. I believe that every one whom God has called to work in his vineyard and disobeys the call must suffer as Paul said, Woe is unto me if I preach not the Gospel. When I look around me and see the many souls that are in sectism, darkness and confusion, my heart is grieved within me and to see so many walking in the broad road that leadeth down to endless woe. It is an awful thought to think of them being forever shut away from God, when all may have a home in heaven. Jesus says, Whosoever will may come and partake of the waters of life freely. I believe that the saddest of all thoughts of the lost will be, Oh! I might have been saved. But then it will be too late. Oh dear unsaved souls, seek Jesus while in health, for the time is coming when you must leave this world to go into an endless eternity, either to live with God or be shut up in black despair. I want to say for the glory of God that I shall be able to start into the work this spring, wherever there will be an opening where a sister is needed. I am willing to go wherever God leads, and do just what he wants me to do. I see this lost world and the burden of souls is upon me. I am all on the altar, saved and resting in Jesus.

Dear Trumpet Readers: I wish to the glory of God to write my experience. When in Canada and only fourteen years of age, I belonged to a sect, was baptized also. After that I came to Michigan and did, not belong to any denomination for a number of years. Then about seven years ago I joined the close communion Baptists. It is about four years since I heard of the true evening light in the name of the Lord. The dear saints held meeting here. They had a building rented. I used to go quite frequently to hear them preach, but just like a good many other professors. I used to get mad because they preached against the so-called churches so strong. I would not go to hear them and then I stayed at home, and did not go to any meeting for a long time. But I felt that it was not right to stay at home, for our blessed Bible tells us we must assemble ourselves together, and let our light shine. I then commenced going to first one denomination, then to another. There was no food for me in any of them. Oh bless the name of the Lord! I had to come back to the true church of the firstborn. Dear ones, there is where I stand to day. saved and kept by the power of God. Oh! it is wonderful how God will watch over his little flock and keep them from straying away. I remember when God washed my sins away. I have been born of the Spirit and washed in his blood. Was baptized in the name of Jesus, and to day finds me saved. I am seeking for sanctification. I do not get discouraged; let come what will. I am going to love and serve him while I remain upon this earth. Wherever he leads I will follow. Dear ones, pray for me that I may receive the sanctifying power, and that I may get rid of that man fearing spirit, and come out more boldly for Jesus.

Dear Saints of God: I feel sad to write my testimony. I am justified in the sight of God. but never have received the second work of grace, but am seeking holiness. I am all consecrated to God. I pray three times a day to be sanctified. I belong to a general Baptist sect, but am coming but of it, for the Spirit bids me to come out from them. I love my blessed Lord for letting me read the Trumpet. Pray for me that I may receive the Sanctifier. I want some of God’s ministers to come here, for there has been none of them here. The people here have heard of holiness, and they get mad at the word holiness. Any one feeling led of God. please come, for I am anxious to hear the truth. If you come please address

NOTE.

May the Lord bless the dear brother and give him a real experience of full salvation. But brother, the Lord requires us to walk up to all the light we have, and as the Spirit of the Lord has shown you a duty, that you must come out of sectism, and the word says, “Come out from among them and be ye separate,” you will have to obey the word in all things up to all the light you have, before you can even consecrate yourself wholly to Him. When every weight is laid aside, every idol severed and given up, then it is not a hard thing to lay on the altar all that is left, and claim and receive the promised gift from the Lord. Where so many fail, is, they want the blessing before they have made any sacrifice, or done what God requires, they are anxious enough to receive any of the promised blessings of the Lord, but yet want to cling to their idols both small and great.

Dear Saints and Trumpet Readers: Grace, mercy, and peace, be multiplied unto all the redeemed household of faith. May God continue to bless you all with complete salvation from all sin and all the works of the devil. Amen. I do praise the Lord for the blessed privilege of reading so many precious testimonies of those, whom the Lord has saved from all sin, and has put his Spirit into their hearts. O how my heart does burn within me, as I read the testimonies of what the Lord is doing for those that he has chosen unto salvation! Truly it is wonderful. The Lord has changed our affections from the things of this world, and has set them on heavenly things. I praise God for salvation that saves me from sin right here in this world. Hallelujah! I do praise God that I was won by his love and died out to sin, and was made alive in Christ Jesus, a new creature. Christ said “Except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” We are born into the family of God, and made heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ Jesus, by two distinct works of grace, first by being justified from all our sins, and then presenting our bodies a living sacrifice upon the altar Christ Jesus, we are sanctified wholly, and having the carnal nature destroyed, and then Christ dwells in our hearts alone. I do praise God that he did show me the way, and gave a willing heart to walk in the light. I praise the Lord for his holy spirit which bears witness with my Spirit that I am his child. This life of faith in God is such a blessed life to live, where we can triumph over all this world of sin, “for if God be for us who can be against us?” Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 1 Jno. 4:4. O praise the Lord for Christ formed within, the hope of glory! O praise the Lord for a willing heart to obey him in all his ordinances! Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith, prove yourselves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Christ is in you except ye be reprobates? Finally brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, and live in peace: and the God of love and peace shall be with you. 2 Cor. 13:5, 11. Pray for me, that God may keep me abounding in his love.

Your brother saved and sanctified,

J. E. Thompson.
