THE DAILY SACRIFICE.

—:o:—

Yea, be magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken way, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.

And arms shall stand on Ms. part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that makes desolate. — Daniel 8:11; 11:31.

FROM this and other texts we see that the beast, or apostate religion, took away the daily sacrifice. In our recent article on the abomination of desolation we showed that that abomination was set up in the third century. Now what is meant by the daily sacrifice being taken away by that beast power? It cannot mean the daily sacrifice of the law at the temple for that had ceased in the dispersion of the Jews, and it is also true that the apostasy did not effect the Jews, but the Church of Christ. Speaking of the sacrificial services the Apostle Paul says they were typical of other things. That is, these literal and ceremonial services were shadows of spiritual things in the new Testament dispensation.

Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience. — Heb. 9:9.

Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. — Col. 2:17.

It being then true that the law ceremonies were shadows of things to come, we will now see what the daily sacrifice represents in the kingdom of Christ? Let us look at the daily sacrifice as set forth in the law.

After this manner ye shall offer daily, throughout the seven days, the meat of the sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the Lord: it shall be offered beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering. — Num. 28:24.

They kept also the feast of tabernacles, is it is written, and offered the daily burnt offerings by number, according to the custom as the duty of every day required.

And afterward offered the continual burnt offering, both of the new moons, and of all the set feasts of the Lord that were consecrated, and of every one that willingly offered a free-will offering unto the Lord. – Ezra 3:4, 5.

And front the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. — Dan. 12:11.

This daily sacrifice is called the “continual sacrifice.”

Now this is that which thou shalt offer upon the altar; two Lambs of the first year day by day continually. This shall be a continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the Lord: where I will meet you, to speak there unto thee. — Exod. 29:38, 42.

And thou shalt say unto them, This is the offering made by fire which ye shall infer unto the Lord; two lambs of the first year without spot day by day, for a continual burnt offering. It is a continual burnt offering, which was ordained in mount Sinai for a sweet savour, a sacrifice made by fire unto the Lord. Ye shall offer these beside the burnt offering in the morning, which is for a continual burnt offering. After this manner ye shall offer daily, throughout the seven days, the meat of the sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the Lord: it shall be offered beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering. — Num. 28:3, 6, 23, 24.

To offer burnt offerings unto the Lord upon the altar of the burnt offering continually morning and evening, and to do according to all that is written in the law of the Lord, which he commanded Israel. – 1 Chron. 16:40.

Neither shall the priests the Levites want a man before me to offer burnt offerings, and to kindle meat offerings, and to do sacrifice continually. — Jer. 33:18.

Now let us look for its spiritual import. Of what was it a shadow? Thus says David.

I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth. — Psa. 34:1. So the Psalmists continual sacrifice, was continual praises in his mouth. Again fie says, “My praise shall be continually of Thee.” – Psa. 71:6.

Thus says the Lord, If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine and the fullness thereof. Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats? Offer unto Cod thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High. — Psa. 50:12-14.

Here we see that God informs us that He owned the world and all its fullness, and did not need mens meat offerings, but demands instead the offering of thanksgiving.

Take with you words, and turn to the Lord: say unto Him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips. — Hosea 14:2.

The sacrifice most pleasing to God is the “calves of our lips,” namely the offering of praise.

By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. — Heb. 13:15.

This is very plain, that which takes the place of the daily, or continual sacrifice of the law, is the sacrifice of praise to God, the continual offering of the joyful fruits of our lips. Thanksgiving and praise to God continually is the great business of all the redeemed.

According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love. Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, to the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. That we should be lo the praise of his glory, Who first trusted in Christ — Eph. 1:4-6, 12.

God predestinated us, and chose ns unto the adoptions of sons, that we should be to the praise of His glory. To praise, worship, and glory God, is the object of our redemption. And this continual sacrifice of praise is not only to go on in our soul, not only to spring up from the heart, but to flow forth out of our mouths, and be shown to all men. And they shall show forth the praises of the Lord. — Isa. 60:6.

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation; a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. — 1 Pet. 2:9.

God raised up this royal priesthood, this holy, peculiar people for the purpose of “showing forth the praises of Him that hath called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.” The Lord help every child of God to observe this, and remember that if we have not a glorious stream of praises to God continually flowing out of our heart and mouth, we do not answer the purpose of our salvation. So the primitive pure Church was a praise Church. They kept up a continual sacrifice of thanksgiving to God, until the setting up of the abomination of sect organization cast down the sanctuary of strength — the Church — and took away the daily sacrifice. The apostasy was a departure from the simple spiritual life of joy and praise, to the running geers (gears – прим.) of sect machinery.

He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white. Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth. The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the Lord; the priests, the Lord’s ministers mourn. The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth. Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished. The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men. — Joel 1:7-12.

What an awful description of the fallen desolate state of spoiled religion. The various fruits of the field have perished and withered up, and all this means that “joy has withered away from the sons of men.”

The city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may come in. There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the Sand is gone. In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction. — Isa. 24:10-12.

The “city of confusion” is the city of babylon, for “how is the faithful city become a harlot,” and therefore all the wine of the kingdom is dried up, and “all joy is darkened,” and the daily sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving being taken away, “in the city is left desolation.”

And joy and gladness is taken from the plentiful field, and from the land of Moab and I have caused wine to fail from the winepresses: none shall tread with shouting; their shouting shall be no shouting. – Jer. 48:33.

Joy is gone, the continual sacrifice is taken away, and “none shall tread with shouting.”

Many other Scriptures show that when the beast cast down the sanctuary he took away the continual sacrifice, and that continual sacrifice is ceaseless praises to God. This being true the cleansing of the sanctuary must necessarily restore the continual sacrifice. Accordingly we find the “evening light” starts a wave of glory and praise over the face of the whole earth. Accordingly, after Jerusalem the holy City “awakes” from her babylon intoxication, “puts on her beautiful garments” of holiness, and is thoroughly loosed from the bands of babylon captivity, — Isa. 52:1, 2 — then we see the songs of praise break forth in continual offerings to God.

Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall. they sing: for they shall see eye to eye, when the Lord shall bring again Zion. Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the Lord hath comforted His people, He hath redeemed Jerusalem. — Isa. 52:8, 9.

In Isaiah 35:8, 9, 10, we see the saints coining back from babylon to Zion, on the high way of holiness “with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads, and they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.” “Everlasting joy,” is the continual sacrifice of praise, the fruits of our lips.

One more reference will be sufficient to show that the return of God’s children from babylon whether we had been carried away by the casting down of the sanctuary of strength, restores the daily sacrifice of spiritual, holy praise to God. Read Zeph. 3rd chapter. It begins with woes upon “her that is filthy and polluted, the oppressing city.” And verse 6 God says, “I have cut off the nations, their towers are desolate.” So this filthy city is composed of a plurality of nations — denominations — and these sect nations are represented by their proud “tower” that are raised up in every town and city, and o’er the country.

In verse 13 we see that God calls a pure “remnant” out of this great babel of confusion, and in that holy remnant, the Lord restores the daily sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving.

Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem. The Lord hath taken away thy judgments, He hath cast out your enemy: the king of Israel, even the Lord, is in the midst of thee; thou shalt not see evil anymore. In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not: and to Zion, Let not your hand be slack. The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing. At that time will I bring you again, even in the time that I gather you: for I will make you a name and a. praise among all people of the earth, when I turn back your captivity before your eyes, says the Lord. — Zeph. 3:14- 17, 20.

Glory to Jesus! let all the holy escaped saints of God fill the above description. Praise is comely for the upright. Keep the sacrificial fire burning. We see in Numbers 28:3, 6, 24, and elsewhere that this continual sacrifice was an “offering made by fire.” A wonderful representation of the praises of God that rises from a heart on lire with the love of God and the Holy Spirit So to keep up the continual sacrifice we must be filled with the Spirit of God. O let us all render to Him continually the fruits of our lips, giving glory to God by Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen!

QUESTIONS ANSWERED.

—:o:—

Walker, Mo.

Dear Bro. Warner: — May God ever bless and keep you, and may you be more and more an honored instrument in the salvation of men. I have been a steady reader of the TRUMPET and have received a great deal of light on the Bible by reading the same. Though there are some things I do not fully understand, which I wish you to explain through the TRUMPET for the benefit of myself and perhaps others who are honest inquirers of the truth as it is in Jesus our Lord.

1st. If the Bible is our guide in faith and practice, how can Christians, especially holiness people all over our land, who profess to be one with Jesus, teach and practice differently and not be accountable to God?

2nd. Is the ordinance of feet-washing included as a part, of good works in 1 Tim.

5:10 — and can we do great works without the ordinances and be saved?

I have been saved about nine years, and cannot find any set of people who agree and act in harmony with the Bible as the Church you represent.

Yours in perfect love.

John H. Wilson.

Answer.

The Bible was given us for our standard of faith, and our rule and law of action, and is a perfect government for all the members of the Body of Christ. Preachers and professed holiness teachers who teach conflicting doctrine, are accountable to God for such works of confusion. Such are not free from babylon. They are out of harmony with the Word of God which requires perfect uniformity in all saints.

Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. — 1 Cor. 1:10.

Whatever experience they may have obtained, they have not attained the Bible standard of perfection, or entire sanctification; for that glory makes us one, as Christ and the Father are one. — John 17:22.

And he gave some, apostles; and some prophets; and some, evangelists; and some pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the. Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; but speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: from whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. — Eph. 4:11-16.

This is a very plain and strong Scripture. God gives teachers whose preaching lead souls into the grace of perfection, and all thus perfected have “come into the unity of the faith.” “There is but one faith” that is of God, and the perfected have come into the unity of that one faith, namely there is perfect uniformity in what they believe and practice. This blessed state is all attained in the “knowledge of the Son of God.” Christ is “the way, the life and tire truth.” Entire sanctification is the complete revelation of Christ in our soul by the Holy Spirit. But Christ is not divided, therefore all that know Christ know Him as the same “way,” the same “life,” and the, same living “truth.”

Again, all who have attained Bible perfection, have come “unto a perfect, man,” i.e., a perfectly harmonious body. A perfect man is not a two faced, nor a double minded man. All the thoughts and sentiments of his mind are in perfect harmony. So all the perfected, being a perfect man, believe the same things, speak the same things, and face the same way on all the doctrine of God. They have in short the “mind of Christ” which is one mind. They all “speak the truth in love,” and are not moved about by any wind of erroneous doctrine. Men who hold and teach differently, respecting the Word of God are not fit to preach the Gospel. The Lord promised that the Comforter He would send, would guide us into all truth. Without this Holy Revealer men are not qualified to preach the Gospel of Christ, and with Him in their hearts they are led into all truth. And as truth is a unite, they are a unite who possess it. All divisions and schisms and conflicting notions are without the real possession of the Spirit of God, and inconsistent with true holiness.

2nd. Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work. — 1 Tim 5:10.

The conditions upon which a widow was to be admitted to the support of the Church, was that she be “well reported of for good works, if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints feet, it she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.” Nothing is plainer than the washing of the saints feet is included among the good works here enumerated, being in the same grammatical position. The Apostle here presents a few of the outward manifestations of true Christian character. Some people think a good work must be an act of charity, or some relief in time of need. But good works necessarily include every act that is in fulfillment of God s Word and will. All human actions are either good or bad, and they are good when in harmony with the mind of God, when not they are bad.

Present salvation is not conditional on our good works, save on that of repentance and faith in Christ Jesus. Hence persona obtain salvation without the performance of any of the ordinances of Christ. But these commands of Christ rather come in with all other Christian duty as a condition of retaining salvation. For thus says the Lord: “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love, even as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in His love.”

Obedience to God is a principle of the heart, the attitude of man’s will toward God’s will. The heart and will that stand s fully committed to all God’s will, is counted perfectly obediently before the eye of God. But that holy heart and will is always manifest in an actual performance of all that God requires in His Word, just. as fast as the intelligence is apprised of God’s commandments. Therefore when a person is really convicted of a duty in the will of God, and refuses to perform the same, it, is an evident that the person has not been really loyal to God in heart, or yielded to temptation and lost the inward principle of obedience to God, when the test came, and thereby forfeited the favor of God. But we may not always know whether outward disobedience is willful, or for want of sufficient conviction. Therefore we should not hastily judge from appearance, but esteem as brethren all saints until a manifest evil spirit, or spiritual death indicates that the person has lost the love of God out of the heart. Then fellowship ceases, not because of doctrinal difference, but because not having the Spirit. Either obedience or backsliding is the result of hearing the truth.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

—o—

THE MERRILL MICH. CAMP MEETING.

-:o:-

Dear Saints and Trumpet readers: — God bless you all and keep you in His fullness is my prayer. My testimony this morning is that I am settled deeper into the will of God than ever before. How much more I see the need of walking more softly before God than ever. Oh God lead our every thought and act in life.

This camp-meeting was one of the most settling times I ever saw. It commenced on the Scriptural line of straightening up all the crooked ways. Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall, be made smooth — Luke 3:5. According to God’s Word, the work began at the house of the Lord. The temple was measured and also the worshipers therein, beginning at the ministry. O what a searching time it wash God searched each of our hearts by his by His Holy Spirit and Word. And what a confessing of our faults one to another. I was very much surprised to find it a fact that that terrible spirit of the devil which causes separation of husband and wife had crept in among the saints, and two families nearly destroyed of which they confessed and came back to God again, and were blessed of Him. Glory be to Jesus! I want to say right here that I believe that no such spirit can creep in only in the absence of salvation, and all such parties must get back to God and get saved again. Salvation removes all sin and where there is no sin there certainly can nothing come between us. Oh how I thank God that He permitted no spirit of satan to come between wife and I, although we were traveling right with it. No one gave me a word of caution save sister Allie, saying that I had belter not sell my horse that we would soon want to travel alone again. I confess I was very much deceived, I prayed much to God for help and received great help, but still realized that I was losing power with God, till some times I became alarmed, also was deprived of my liberty to preach the Word; but I thought God wanted me to keep quiet and learn. I praise God my eyes have been opened, and I see clearly: and while my heart runs out for dear Brother Fisher for his salvation and complete deliverance, yet I must renounce all the works of the devil. One of which is free- love-ism, which is soul-damning with all the rest of the delusions of the devil, I ask God’s forgiveness wherein I have given sanction to this delusion of the devil; and also of all the saints which have been looking on and wondering how we could travel together in the ministry with those who were not right. Nearly every place we went, souls were saved; but not many. God’s Word will not return unto Him void, but will accomplish that whereunto it is sent. I simply answer this question by saying I was deceived as well as many others. Bro. Fisher was renounced by all of the saints at the camp-meeting as not being of God, especially by the ministers of Christ, and that his works were pernicious and destructive to the Church of the living God. May God open his eyes and bring him to repentance and confession, making all things right audio the obtaining of the Salvation of his soul.

The meeting was most glorious, and led wholly by the Holy Spirit. No jars, but all with one accord in one place, receiving the heavenly baptism of pentecost. Oh what a melting and running together of the hearts of the saints.

There were a goodly number of Consecrations, many brought back to God, and some delivered from babylon. Among whom was a preacher and his companion delivered from the Wesleyan sect. Much prejudice removed, and precious seed sown to be reaped hereafter.

Help us, Lord, to sow the seed
Of Thy eternal Word,
That all who hear may surely heed,
And come unto the Lord.

He’ll save your soul from every sin,
And give you sweet release;
O now at once this life begin,
The life of endless peace.

O come to-day, ’tis Jesus pleads,
“My life I gave for thee,
On Calvery’s cross I bled, I died,
From sin to set you free.”

Bro’s Reeves, Shelley and Cox were in attendance, preached the Word in the demonstration of the Holy Spirit with much power and clearness. These brethren all withdrew themselves from Joseph as one not right before God, nor straight with His Word. I think, this will tend to lose the saints from the grasp of man and drive them closer to Jesus. May God bless all of his people and keep them ever in His fold. Amen! My testimony is,

The cleansing blood now saves me,
And keeps me from all sin;
All so pure and spotless,
The cleansing is within.

I thank and praise, my Jesus
All through this din of strife;
He keeps my soul so sweetly,
I’m reigning in this life.

With Christ I’ve gained the struggle,
The victory won at last,
I’ve overcome the devil,
Escaped the chilly blast.

And now within the haven,
Securely sheltered there,
A rest so sweetly given
With Jesus I do share.

Wm. N. Smith.

Bangor, Mich., Sept. 6, 1887.

Dear Brethren and readers of the Trumpet: — After arriving home from the Beaver Dam camp-meeting we spent about five hours With our dear family then away again to attend the Cheshire grove meeting, which commenced the 18th of last month. We had a glorious good meeting; a few were converted, some were sanctified and many were edified; it rejoiced our heart to see so many of the saints from a distance. After the close of the meeting on Sunday, 21st, we returned home and remained one day, then started for the Jerry City camp-meeting, which commenced Aug. 25th. My soul leaped within me when I met so many of the dear ones I never had seen, but had learned to love them by reading their testimonies in the TRUMPET. While preaching in the evening (which was the first meeting) we were greatly rejoiced at seeing Bro’s Speck and Kilpatrick come upon the ground, our soul took a good shout and so did we. We found considerable rubbish in the way, but the Lord gave us liberty in the Word so much so that a large part of it was removed by the first Sunday, and victory seemed to be bursting forth, when the devil loomed up in another direction. so vividly that we could see, as it were, all his hoofs and claws, and mud on his horns, in the form of Stumbling or grumbling Stone Johnson with a number of satellites who made their appearance upon the grounds Saturday night; they were wry docile that night and also Sunday until after we dismissed the meeting for that day, (having announced two days before that there would be no meeting on the ground Sunday evening.) We preached in the forenoon on regeneration and sanctification setting them forth as two separate works of grace, sanctification, as subsequent to and independent of regeneration; Bro Kilpatrick preached in the after noon on about the same line, after which L. H. J. testified that he endorsed the preaching of the day which was a fair and square contradiction of what he teaches in his paper. We had a season of prayer, at which two strangers, to us, engaged; as soon as their prayers, or rather the saying of prayer was over we immediately arose to our feet and declared to the congregation that we could detect a foreign clement in those prayers; and so we could; for God has put His detector (the Holy Ghost) in us. We afterward learned that those two prayers came from a broken down, strolling ordinance fighter and one of his duped ones; so you sec we were not deceived. One of the brethren asked him why souls were not saved through him, and the answer was that that was not his mission, but his mission was to tear down babylon; may God pity him. Well after meeting was dismissed Johnson gave out that he would preach on the grounds that evening, but some of the brethren objected; then he said, if the Lord was leading the meeting he would preach; we told him that the Lord was leading and did not propose to turn it over into the hands of the devil. Then one of his satellites arose just above the horizon with Bible in hand and dared us to debate with him; we told him we would not engage in any controversy; but he flashed the more and told us we dare not allow them to preach the Word. We told him the best way to settle the matter was for him to come up into the stand and we would pray together. He would not move until L. H. T. started (who was not invited, but thought where the Spirit of God was there was liberty) then he came up and we bowed and prayed the Lord to put to flight the foreigners. After we were through praying the other two, L. H. J. and Sal. “broke out in prayer during which time we laid hands on the head of satellite and asked the Lord to confound him which He did. At the same time Brother Speck rebuked the devil (in the name of Jesus Christ) which was in Johnson who immediately shut his mouth; but on hearing his little disciple declaring with great vehemence (after the Lord had confounded him so that he could not pray) that he would ever stick to it, would never leave him, &c. &c., commenced praying again, and Bro. Speck declared to him (being kneeled at his side) that he (Johnson) was the first-born of satan and again rebuked the devil in him which caused him to roar, and he arise from his knees and declared that this confusion was all of the devil, and we agreed with him, slating that it was the devil that brought it there. After some talk back and forth the whole Johnson element left, the ground and we have not seen nor heard of it since. Praise the Lord who giveth us the victory. From that time until the close of the meeting the Lord wonderfully blessed our souls, saved a number of sinners, sanctified a number of believers and healed several of their infirmities, among whom was ourself. Praise the Lord for the healing power. Good order prevailed during the meeting which closed Sunday after noon. Monday morning we started back for Michigan and Bro’s Speck and Kilpatrick for Pennsylvania. We are all consecrated to the work of the Lord, sanctified, meet for the Master’s use.

THE TEMPLE OF GOD.

—:o:—

God dwells not in temples made with hands but in his children. “Ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.” — l Cor. 3:9. The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold the kingdom of God is within you. — Luke 17:20, 21. We look back to where God created man we are told in Gen. 2:7 – The Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Man was created holy and in the image and likeness of God; therefore God came and communed with the man whom He had created. But they broke God’s commandment, they transgressed His law, therefore sin came upon the whole human race. So He drove the man out of paradise. The race of man was now no more pure and holy, but was dead, dead in sin. The communion and sweet peace man had with God was now cut off because of sin. But God still loved man though he had sunk low in sin. We read in God’s Word: That God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. — John 3:16. What was God’s motive in sending His Son in the world to die the ignominious death on the cross?

It was to redeem man from that ruinous state in which he was. Praise God, and that temple which He had formed of the dust of the ground, made it pure and holy and breathed into it the breath of life; but was defiled by sin, could now be cleansed by the precious blood of Jesus, and made a holy temple in which God’s Spirit dwells. Glory to God! Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. — 1 Cor. 3:16, 17. Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. — I Cor. 6:19, 20. In whom ye are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. — Eph. 2:21, 22. Though fellowship was once cut off between man and God, it is now renewed by our blessed Savior. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin. – 1 John 1:7. Dear reader, have you accepted Jesus as your Savior? He is able to save to the uttermost and to keep, you from sin each day. Praise His name!

Blind holiness fighters say we cannot he cleansed from all inbred sin and the sins of the body cannot be washed away and be made an holy temple in which God’s Spirit dwells. God’s Word teaches in without holiness no man shall see the Lord, and His Spirit takes home the truth.

In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in jutting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ. — Col. 2:11 glory to God, I love the truth. We are, fold in God’s Word, the time will come, yea the time has come, when they will not endure sound doctrine, but after their own lusts they shall heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears. May God help those who oppose the truth, to see the true light. Dear saints, let us ask God daily to keep our bodies a fit temple for the indwelling of His Spirit. Your free Bro.

STUMBLING STONE FRUITS.

BUCYRUS, O.

Dear Trumpet Readers: – I am glad there are saved people yet in the world: but sorry to say there are hot very many in these parts. I had a vision or dream one night, I thought I had a long handle shovel cleaning away some rubbish. In that rubbish I saw a very large snake some fifty feet in length. I look the shovel and cut it in two or three pieces. I thought the end with the head began to flirt about at a terrible rate, throwing a milky looking slime in every direction, until the place was slimed all over. It tried to throw it on me, but could not. Then a dog came along and got slimed all over and it came and tried to rub it on me, but it could not do it.

I went to meeting last Sunday and gave them the 3rd chapter of 2 Pet.. The deceived souls had been preaching that this world was to be perpetuated without end, therefore denying the second coming of Christ. They also preach that their body is now glorified, and the mansions that Christ went to prepare for us, they now possess in their souls. They also preach that they are so pure they can kiss each other promiscuously. A man can kiss another man’s wife, and the women, can kiss the men whenever they feel like it. I rebuked their errors and abominations and told them their kissing was no more nor less than free-love-ism, and it was the first step to shame and disgrace. By the help of the Lord, I said I had noticed in the TRUMPET some of the same things rebuked elsewhere. Then Henry Raub, of Bucyrus got up and represented the snake cut to pieces; he called me a faultfinding backslider, and said I had no salvation since the assembly meeting at Anapolis some four years ago, when I came out square on the Word of God and endorsed the New Testament ordinances, when the Holy Ghost came on me in mighty power, which Brother Warner was an eyewitness. This Henry Raub says it was all of hell; He said last Sunday that the TRUMPET is a flaming sheet of hell, and is the means of dragging more souls to hell than any thing else. He then said there had been a golden wedge in their way for a long time, and that they were glad they had found now where it was and that I was the man. All who were present sanctioned what had been said, with the exception of three or four, then they gave out their next meeting, invited all that would come and preach the doctrine as they had preached it and no others were invited.

We want to get Samuel Speck, or some other Holy Ghost man, this fall or winter that will preach a week or two for us. I am still under the blood, saved and sane filled.

John N. Slagle.

NOTE.

If any one wishes to know what kind of devils and serpents these deluded men are possessed with, we are able to inform you that they are filled with that unclean spirit that came out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophets Lyman H. Johnson and one Stockwell. This man Raub is possessed with free-love quaker devils, and has been for years. And we never have doubted that either he or another man Sherman of the same hellish spirit wrote that mess of detestable lies to the grumbling Stone a few years ago which was published in that sheet without a signature. The writer was lying and dared not sign his name; and any man that is base enough to publish slanderous charges against another person without the writers name, deserves the contempt of all honest men. Since these poor deluded souls have been induced to think Christ does not mean what He says respecting the New Testament ordinances, they are out at sea without compass or chart, and without the light of spiritual sun, moon or stars; hence they drift about hither and thither by every caprice and wile of the devil. Free grumbling stone, free snake slime, free loving, free kissing, free renunciation of the New Testament, and free spewing out against the saints of God, and free works of the devil of every kind, all go together. When people untie from the Word of God and disbelieve the ordinances of Christ, no surprise that they should next be contradicting the Scripture respecting the coming of Christ and the send of the world. And when men think themselves so spiritual that they need not the rule of the New Testament, they are just where the devil can come as an angel of light, and teach them every foolish lie, such as immortalized bodies, glorified bodies, in this life.

We are personally acquainted with the parties above referred to, we have seen them fall from God and His Word, and became possessed with satan’s delusions and knew they were on the way to the very delusions they have now reached, and God only knows where the end shall be. When these people fell under the delusions of the devil they all renounced us and the TRUMPET, but continued to feed on Johnson’s grumbling stone, until they have lost their good sense, spiritually, expose Christ to an open shame by professing His name, and practicing their abominable free-love kissing, and now have reached that pitch of desperate devilism where they can say that the Trumpet, which reports more real salvation than any paper we know of, is of hell, and leading souls to hell. God pity such wretched deceived souls, who put light for darkness and darkness for light. We thank God that, such men do hate us and renounce us. By the grace of God we expect to keep so fully in God, and the fire of His Spirit and the hammer of His Word so fully in us that every perverse antichrist spirit of the devil will separate themselves from us.

When the Harvester, a babylon paper, published the falsehood that we had refused to live with our wife because she differed in religious views, and renounced us for the same, that paper continued to fellowship, and hold as a saint the other person that refuses to live with her husband, professedly upon the same ground for which he had falsely accused us. Surely “he that is a sectarian is subverted and sinneth.” And now we wish to inform the Harvester, and all the rest of the babylon sectarian holiness (?) sheets that crowed so loudly, and blowed your horn with such a jubilee a few years ago when satan’s billows wrecked our domestic bark, we say unto you, by reading the above letter you can see what kind of an element you were glorying in. The poor unfortunate person that satan used to give you so much comfort, and upon whose renunciation of the truth, you were built up in your rotten sectarian, fell with those above described, continued in their fellowship, and doubtless yet does. So you can see that you gloried in the works of the devil, and in the day of judgment you will find that you also condemned the innocent and the just. It is a painful duty to refer to these livings, but because we never admonished you for your pernicious publications we now do so, and beseech you to repent. And this we do for the love we have for your souls, and also to clear our soul of your blood.

Deerfield, Ind.

Dear Brethren: — I do praise God this morning for a free salvation that saves me to the uttermost. How wonderful live Lord is working in these last days. Praise the name of Jesus, the Church is prospering in this place. The Lord does fill my soul with wonderful victory over the works of the devil. We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. — 1. John 5:18. O bless the Lord! He just keeps me from all sin. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as He is, so are we in this world. — 1 John 4:17. God is purging his floor, and all that are not straight are being cut off. The Lord says, Every branch in me that bringeth forth fruit, He purgeth it that it may bring forth more fruit. Every tree is known by its fruits, so every one that is born of God doth not commit sin for his seed remaineth in hint and he cannot sin: and we know that we are of God and the whole world lies in wickedness.

The disciple is not above his Master, but every one that is perfect shall be as his Master. Let, this mind be in you, which is in Christ Jesus: who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God; and every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself even as he is pure. Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. The Lord says, My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me, and I give unto them eternal life: and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hands. Then said Jesus to those Jews who believe on Hun, If ye continue in my Word, then are ye my disciples indeed, and ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. I do thank the Lord that I am a tree child of God. I have all on the altar that sanctifies me. Glory be to God! I am dead to this world therefore the world knows me not. I do love to labor for poor perishing souls. The Lord does fill my soul so full of joy that tongue cannot tell. Praise the Lord, we just have Heaven to go to Heaven in. I have put off the old man with his deeds and buried him. Hallelujah to our God who is alive and full of power, and makes ns to sit in Heavenly places!

When the Lord saved me He saved me from going to dances, and parties, and festivals, and jesting, and pride, and the lust of this world. I advise all sinners to give all your worldly affairs up to the devil for there is just where they belong: and give your body a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service, and He will make you every whit whole. I do thank God that I am counted worthy to suffer shame for Jesus’ sake.

I’m a soldier of the cross,
One who’s cleansed from all dross;
By my Savior who hath died,
I am saved and sanctified.

Your Sister under the blood.

Dear Saints of God: — This is the first time that I have given you my testimony through the TRUMPET. I do praise our God for free and full salvation, that saves us every day from sin. Glory be to God, I am saved and sanctified every day! Praise the Lord forever! This salvation is better experienced than told. My mind often runs back to the camp-meeting that was held the 22nd of June. What a glorious time we all had there! the love of God just united our hearts so completely, that we felt as one family in Christ. Dear brothers and sisters, I love to read the TRUMPET, for I hear then what the Lord is doing for you. Glory to God! My prayer is that God’s saints may all keep under the precious blood of Christ, that we may all use such talents as God has given us; that we may be the means of sinners turning to God, and being made free in Christ our God forever and ever! Oh glory to Jesus! I am under the blood which “taketh away the sin of the world.” May I ever abide in the Vine. “Whatsoever ye ask in my name,” says the Lord, “it shall be given to you.” Now let us have more faith in God and just take Him at His word, and then there will surely be more souls saved than there are. Let us prove our profession daily, that the unsaved may see that there is reality in in the salvation of Jesus Christ.

Your sister, saved and sanctified,

Dear Brethren: — My testimony is, I am saved and sanctified and kept by the mighty power of God daily. Oh praise Jesus for a present salvation that keeps us free from all sin. I am a poor weak worm of the dust, but no matter how small we are there is a place in the body for us. The blessed Lord has used the in many ways. Oh praise His Holy name! Now I will say that we have just gone through a wonderful good Camp Meeting, the mighty power of God was manifested in His people. Some souls were saved from their sins, others withdrew from the sects and a wonderful, letting down of God’s little ones. Hallelujah to God and the Lamb forever and ever! I do praise God for the way He is keeping His little ones there are but a few of us that are standing oat straight for God, but we are just as firm as if there were five hundred, because the Lord that we worship is no respecter of persons, neither is He confined to large assemblies. So we meet in our prayer meetings a few of us in the name of the Lord Jesus, and we have a glorious time. O praise God for a full and complete salvation, that we can have with us every day at our work, at meeting or any place the Lord calls us. Glory to our God for the privilege of sending in our testimonies, to a paper that is pare and straight for God. Praise his holy name! Your Bro. saved and under the blood doing the Master’s will.

Dear Brethren in Christ Jesus greeting: This morning finds me saved and sanctified wholly to God. I praise God that I am delivered from the bondage of death, also from unreasonable and wicked men, and every thing contrary to God’s will. Just now my soul is flooded with eternal glory. Behold God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song, He also has become my salvation. Dear Brethren: — O how the Lord has blessed my soul since I gave my heart to Him. I am all on the altar, doing the Lord’s will, and loving Him with all my might. And am filled with the Holy Ghost and sanctified by obeying the truth. I am washed in the blood and kept by the mighty power of God.

O now my soul has been made free
And God’s pure light has shined in me;
I’ve found in Christ a blessed peace,
He saves me by His wondrous grace.

I know my soul has found the Lord,
’Tis sweet to feel His cleansing blood;
The Lord has swept my sins away:
And made my heart as bright as day.

And now I’ll bear the cross in love
Until I reach my home above;
I know the Lord can keep me pure
As long as life shall here endure.

Dear Brethren and readers of the GOSPEL TRUMPET. We are happy and saved in Jesus. Praise His name for ever! And are preaching the Gospel every Lord’s day, and sinners are being convicted and saved. Praise His name for ever! And the devil is getting stirred in professors. While preaching from Col. 1:18 to a full house of Wesleyans and non professors. The devil was stirred in so called church members and cried out against the word, but we gave them the fire and hail mingled with blood, and they were ready to gnash on us with their teeth, praise God! the glory was in our souls, and victory on the Lords side. Your Bro. saved, sanctified and kept in God’s order.

To all the saints and TRUMPET readers greeting. Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, according as His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises; that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Pet. 1:2, 3, 4.

My testimony is that Jesus saves me. That I am free from all men, and sects, walking in the light; indwelt by the Spirit of truth, that leads into all truth. Feasting daily on the word, getting stronger, and stronger in the Lord and in the power of His might. Praise the Lord O my Soul!

Dear Brethren: — My testimony is that I am saved by the blood of Jesus, and sanctified to do His will. Oh I do, thank Him that He ever saved me from that bottomless pit to which I was going. Today I know that I have that sweet peace in my soul that none but Jesus can give. I am resting on His holy promises. Praise be to His name for ever! God has established a. church here that the gates of hell can not prevail against. Some souls have gone back to the wicked world, but we pray to God to call them back. Oh I do praise God that there are some good honest soldiers for Christ here who keep their eyes on Jesus, and do not get led away by the wiles of satan. Oh today I just realize that I am nothing in the eyes of Jesus, that I can do nothing without His all, I do praise His holy name for the joy and peace I feel in my soul, I do thank and praise Him for what He has done for me, He has saved and healed me. Dearly Beloved Brethren: — I would like to testify through your much appreciated paper. I want to tell what the Lord has done for me. Bless His holy name! Near all my life (45 years) I have been a servant of satan; have been a very wicked man. Whiskey has been my ruin. I have spent a fortune for alcoholic drink: but bless the Lord I was led by the prayers and perseverance of my dear wife to I. W. Mo. where she is engaged in tabernacle work. I had been under conviction for some time, and concluded to go with my wife and get saved. Our first place was Carterville. The second night of the meeting, July 17, God spoke peace to my soul. Bless His holy name for ever! It was the happiest hour of my life. In other days I have had considerable of this worlds goods, but no riches can compare to this salvation. I felt there was still more for me.

I sought for and obtained it. Aug. 1st ’87 I was sanctified wholly, and made pure. Oh! how happy I was, tongue cannot express it. Bless God! I never shall forget the dear saints of Carterville and WebbCity Mo.. The Lord bless and keep them unto the end. Your Bro. saved and sanctified wholly.

Dear Saints and Readers of the TRUMPET: — I just feel led by the blessed Master this morning to write a few lines for my blessed Jesus. I do praise Him for the salvation of my soul. I have victory over the devil and all the powers of hell. Glory to the Lamb for ever and ever. We went to Grant County to a grove meeting and had a glorious time together. May God be with the saints at that place and give them the victory over the evil one at all times. Glory to Jesus, I feel the power of God in my soul just now. Praise God! I cannot express the joyful feelings of my soul. “I am from sin set free, this world has now no charms for me, for Christ hath set me free.

“I am reigning, sweetly reigning,
Far above this world of strife,
In my blessed, loving Savior
I am reigning in this life.”

I can praise God for the healing power that He gives to all who firmly believe on Him. My soul is burning with the love of God and I cannot love Him enough for what He has done for me. He healed me when I was sick, and now I am well soul and body, and filled with the Holy Ghost. My prayer is that God will watch over His little flock af this place that they may ever be united and filled with the Holy Spirit,

Dear Saints of the Living God: — I feel it is the will of God to testify through the TRUMPET that the blood of Jesus Christ God’s Son cleanseth me from all sin, and sanctifies me wholly just now. O what sweet peace I have in my soul, and I do feel the power while I am writing. The Comforter which is the. Holy Spirit is just in my soul and has driven out all fear, and I am led by the Lord. He gives me a willing mind to accept all the light He gives me. My little boy had the whooping-cough and I was led by the Spirit to call for the elders for him to be healed. So I did as the Lord led and now he is healed. When Christ was on earth He healed all manner of diseases. O praise the Lord for salvation that keeps me complete in Christ who heals all of my sicknesses. Your sister under the blood.

QUESTIONS ANSWERED.

—:o:—

DEAR Bro. Warner: — I like the sound of the TRUMPET, and would not do without it. It is straight on the Bible line of holiness. I am happy to testify that this leaves me saved, sanctified and satisfied.

Bro. W. please explain Col. 2:14-23. As some use this to do away with the ordinances of Christ.

2nd. What are the two witnesses spoken of in Rev. 31. May the Lord lead you to answer in the TRUMPET. Your Bro.

A. L. Snell.

ANSWER.

The ordinances of Col. 2 only refer to the ceremonial rites of the Mosaic law, and have nothing whatever to do with the ordinances of Christ. This fact is so plain that any candid child can see it, though subverted heretics will not. Alter asserting that Christ had “blotted out the hand writing of ordinances,” etc., the Apostle says. Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holy-day, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days: which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. verse 16, 17. Here is a description of the abolished ordinances, holy-days, new moons and legal Sabbaths. The abolished ordinances were types and shadows of things to come, but the body is of Christ. Coming events cast their shadow, before. So the ceremonies of the law were shadows of a coming body, and that body is Christ. Namely those ordinances were instituted to shadow forth lads pertaining to Christ. The Apostle positively asserts that the ordinances here referred to, were not the ordinances of Christ’s kingdom, but of the preceding dispensation. For they were shadows of things to come, and those things to come were of Christ. Christ, was the body that cast these shadows before. But when you follow a shadow to the body that produced it, there the shadow ends. Most of the legal rites typified the crucifixion of Christ, Hence at His cross the shadows met the substance and ended. Therefore Christ, it is said nailed them to the cross. These things are so plain that he that would teach otherwise, and apply the abolished ordinances to those instituted by Christ is either too ignorant or too dishonest to deserve a hearing from immortal souls. Had the Apostle alluded to New Testament ordinances, after saying that they were abolished he would have added. Let no man judge you therefore in respect to baptism, the washing of the saints feet and the Lord’s supper. But He did not mention those things as among abolished ordinances. Neither does that affirmed of the abolished ordinances apply to these New Testament ordinances. The former were shadows of the good things of the Christ that was to come, but the latter are all sacred monuments, of the humility, love, burial, and resurrection of the Christ that has come. The only prospective thought connected with the ordinances of Christ is this: “As oft as ye eat this treat and drink this cup, you do show forth the Lord’s death till He come.” But this does not say that the bread and wine represents an event to come; but it commemorates an event that is past, i.e. His death, but is to be observed until He cornea the second time. Those facts are to plain that a “wayfaring man though a fool — if honest – shall not err therein.” Even though blind, subverted, sinning, quakerized, heretics, do wrangle and foam against them. What abominable darkness must fill that soul that makes Paul here reject the ordinances of Christ, when the same inspired Apostle charges believers in 1 Cor. 11:2 to ‘‘keep the ordinances as I delivered them to you.” And affirms in verse 23 that he hail “received of the Lord that which also he deliver, d unto them” and then proceeds to describe the Lord’s supper, one of the ordinances that he had received from Christ, in the same words in which Christ had instituted it 26 years before. To gainsay these facts is simply to foolishly and madly fight the Word of God, and he is anti-christ that does to. May God give all such repentance to the acknowledgement of the truth, that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil.

2. The two witnesses are the Word of God and the Spirit of God. These are the olive trees — Rev. 11:4. Now turn to Zech. 4:2, 3, and these two olive trees stand on either side of the golden candlestick, which is the Church. The question was asked, “What are these my Lord? Then he answered and spoke unto me, saying. This is the Word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saving, not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts. – Zech. 4:6. The question was asked as to what the two olive trees were, and the answer is that “this is the Word of God to Zerubbabel,” and “by my Spirit says the Lord.” So the answer is that the two trees are the Word of God and the Spirit of God: and the two trees are the two witnesses.

They prophesied a thousand two hundred and three score days clothed in sackcloth. — Rev. 11:3. The sackcloth indicated the darkness of that period. The one thousand two hundred and three score days or 1260 days are so many years, and cover the same time that the papel beast shall trend down the sanctuary, and wear out the saints. — Daniel 7:25, 12:7. And power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. Rev. 13; 5. The time, times, and an half are three years and a half, equal to 1260 days, the 42 months also equal 1260 days. The papacy was not set up until in the 4th century, but the same ecclesiastical beast authority that formed into the papacy was set up about the year 270. So the 1260 years beginning at that time expired in 1530. That was just the time the second beast appeared on earth, — see Rev. 13 — namely protestantism. The Augsburg confession, the first protestants was made and adopted in that year, also the Smalcald league of protestants was made and subscribed to in the same year. That is when the devil, having failed to destroy the Church by persecution and martyrdom, conspires against her by his second counterfeit, protestantism, and by this more deceptive policy these two witnesses are killed, and their dead bodies lay in the street of the great city, which, spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. — verse 8. Sodom, Egypt, and Babylon are all names which “spiritually” represent the city of false religion; including carnal Jewry Romanism, protestantism etc.

The merriment of verse 9 has been going on in babylon festivities. These two witnesses being dead in the streets of the great city, signifies that the Word of God is but a dead letter, and the Spirit of God only lives in name, not a living reality, in the great city of sect religion.

“Three days and a half,” the Spirit interprets to us as 350 years of protestantism, beginning 1530, and ending with the beginning of the evening light in 1880. In the evening light the two witnesses rise up again in power — verse 11. They into Heaven i.e., the pure remnant or Church which is now gathered out of babylon by the flying angels or ministers — verse 12.

The result is a “great earthquake” — namely, a moral crisis, or Holy Spirit revolution — verse 13. A glorious victory follows — verse 15.

Fallowing the ascent of the two witnesses into Heaven, the true Church, there is “war in Heaven,” in the ecclesiastical regions.

And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, and prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in Heaven. And the great dragon was cast out; that old serpent called the devil, and satan, which deceives the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. And I heard a loud voice in heaven saying, now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they over came him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe lo the inhabited of the earth and of die sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. — Rev. 12:7-12.

This corresponds with Daniel 12:1. The dragon and his angels are driven out by lifting up the Gospel standard of holiness which destroys the works of the devil, and the preaching of the true Church which leaves all devils and sinners outside. When the sanctuary is thus cleansed and the devils are driven out, then woe to the inhabiters of the earth, for the devils are come down unto you. As God raises up the pure Church, the devil sets up the rest of men for his. Now men are setting their eternal destiny. Will you be sealed unto God or unto destruction?

THE LOVE OF GOD TO SINNERS.

“Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved.”

—:o:—

SURELY God is loving, and long, for hearing to sinners, and the goodness of God ought to lead all men to repentance.

The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. — John 3:35. Every man that is living, in sin, is in a perishing condition.

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish, foolishness; but unto us which are saved, it is the power of God. 1 Cor. 1:18.

Those who are not in a perishing state, are saved in the blood of Jesus, and filled with the power of God. And every one that is out of Christ, is liable to drop into eternity, without Salvation or a moment’s warning. Then you will be lost forever. When the Lord sees fit to take you out of the world, you will have to go, prepared or unprepared. A good many say they are not ready to get saved now. But remember, when the time comes, and the Lord calls for you, poor sinner, you will have to obey Him, and depart into eternity. May God help every one to heed His warning voice, through His ministers, purify his heart in obeying the truth.

Remember when God speaks by one of His ministers, it is just the same as if God spoke Himself. ’’For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you”. “For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus sake. — 2 Cor. 4:5. So every one that is interested in Heaven take heed to Heaven’s truth, and obey it.

Sinners, the Lord gave His only son, and He was crucified, the just for the unjust. He died poor sinner, that you through His death might have everlasting life.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. John 5:24.

He has passed from a sinful state into a righteous state by the operation of God.

How can you resist the loving son of God, and turn away your ears from His solemn admonitions. Your continual preservation is but a miracle of God’s mercy.

How can you raise up in such impious rebellion against the loving Christ, who gave Himself for you. God help you all rational beings to receive the atonement, which means, at-one-ment with Christ, “and if Christ be in you the body is dead because of sin, but the spirit is life because of righteousness.” Now in order to be saved, and get to Heaven, the Lord tells you what you must do; namely: And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts. 5:21. And deep conviction for salvation and obedience to Christ must emanate from God, through a willingness on your part, to do His holy will in all things. Then the pure and undefiled love of Christ will pervade you both soul and body.

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. – Matt. 33:87, 38.

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. — Rom. 5:8.

The love of Christ to us is wonderful And God’s word says it is a great commandment. The Lord commands us to have His love perfected in us.

He that loveth not, knoweth not Cod; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. And we have known and believed the love that God hath lo us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as lie is so are we in this world. We love Him because He first loved us: — 1 John. 4:8-10, 16, 17, 19.

All who are living in the dark deceptive works of the devil had better escape while you can, and while God’s love, and mercy is extended to you.

For the time is coming when Heaven’s love will not be yours, but God’s wrath will be kindled in your destruction. For the Lord of heaven is coming, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ; who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power. 2 Thess. 1:9 8.

Then poor sinner in that, day you will have to humble yourself in the sight of God, under His awful wrath. You had better kneel under the love of God, than under His awful wrath.

B. E. Warren.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

—:o:—

THE CHANUTE CAMP MEETING.

—:o:—

Chanute, Kan., Sep 1st. PRAISE God! the time came when we were permitted to meet the be loved saints in Kansas. Dear Bro. J. P. Haner, with whom we have been so dearly associated through correspondence for over two years, and many others whose names have appeared in the TRUMPET.

It had been very dry here in Kan., but the Lord soon sent rain in abundance, insomuch that it was rather wet weather for the meeting, but we all praised God for the needed showers. During the meeting we moved our encampment from the Neosho River, two and a half miles east of Chanute to the edge of town. The attendance was not very large; much prejudice existed in the minds of the people, some of which was not without a cause. The devil has found no more effectual way to kill the cause of holiness than by setting his own corrupt children lo profess this precious grace, and assume to be teachers of the same. So we found a carnal sinner here by the name of John H. Orr going about talking holiness, with the devil in his heart. Whom we kindly admonished privately to seek God and salvation, but not accepting the admonition he was publicly admonished, and his condition pointed out, when the devil in him was fully let loose. He foamed out his shame, and then fled out of the camp, as Judas did after receiving the sop, and wont about peddling falsehoods. The hand of God will take care of him. How true it is that “one sinner spoils much good,” especially if he professes holiness, and assumes to be a teacher. After this stumbling block was rid out. of the camp, and the hearts of some were cleared up that had been tainted by fellowshipping his pernicious spirit, and the weather also cleared up, we had a respectable hearing, (here was good attention and the meeting closed with a good interest. One sinner was awakened by the Spirit of God, and came about twelve miles to the meeting and was gloriously born of the spirit of God. There were a few souls blessedly saved during the meeting, and many of the saints greatly strengthened, and built up in the most holy faith. And the way was cleared for the Spirit, of God to work on the hearts of the people. If all the dear confessors of holiness walk in the Spirit faithfully in the future, God can get at the hearts of the people, and we hope to hear of many souls saved in the kingdom of God’s grace.

On Sabbath, Aug. 29, we preached to the people three times, and in the afternoon we went to the river and baptized eight dear children of God. It was a solemn and sacred service. The tabernacle was taken down and tents struck on Tuesday, and that night we had a very precious ordinance meeting at the house of Bro. Newbern. There ware some consecrations, and one consumptive sister received prayers and anointing for her healing, and we are blessed with a strong assurance that she was healed of the Lord The Lord keep her faith firm and unshaken in the Great Physician, whose Word can never fail.

To-day, Sept 1, we go on our way another hundred miles to the south-west, to Akron, Cowley Co. Kan., where we hold the next camp-meeting. Dear Brother J. Cole and sister Mary Cole, Bro. and sister Haner, Bro. and sister George Hoten, and Bro. Cook who is already about 200 miles from home, accompany us to the next place, some by R. R. and others by team. O may God give us a harvest of souls al Akron.

The present prospects are that we will hold a meeting at Atlanta, some twelve miles from Akron, then go two Co’s farther west to Anthony, Harper Co. Thence north east, probably calling at Emporia and Meriden, Jefferson Co. then hold a meeting at Table Rock Nebraska, and we hope also to visit Seward, York, and Polk Co’s Neb. where we traveled 13, 14 years ago. We have also a calf to Denver Col., but it does not yet appear practical. Will be happy to go there if the way opens.

The weather is pleasant, roads nice, and the country delightful. “O that men would praise the Lord for His goodness and for His wonderful works to the children of men.” We often feel in our soul that the dear saints are praying much for us. God bless the holy people every where. O how our hearts are knit together in love. O what a meeting we shall all have by and by when the fierce battles all are over and our work is finished. O beloved let us all be true and faithful to God to the end. All our company send our love to all the beloved saints every where. Thank God we are all well and happy in Jesus.

Daniel.

Dear Saints of the Almighty and true God: — As I cannot see you face to face, and hear your voices in praise to God, I thank Him from whom all blessings flow, that I can read your testimonies in the TRUMPET. I am so glad that I have it to read. I scarcely know how I could get along without it. It fills my soul with joy whets I read the work of salvation that is going: on through our land, and the many souls that are being saved, but oft how many there are that will not heed, and thereby lose their souls. O dear saints, you who are preaching the Gospel of Christ, preach it plain, and true, that all may hear, and understand, and see the way. Dear saints, my testimony is, I am justified before God, seeking for the second work of grace. All who know the worth of prayer, hold me to the throne of grace. I am saved from manmade churches, from worldly pleasure, from out ward adorning, and alt by worth; to God alone I give all the praise. I rejoice to know that it is ns well with me as it is. Pray for me, your sister in Christ,

To the Saints of the Most High God, Greeting. We thank God that we can this morning say that we are established in the faith of the Church of the first born. Hallelujah! And God is wonderfully blessing us and adding to the Church daily such as are being saved. Yes there was three added and baptized the first week, and afterwards 14. Praise the Lord! And besides all this, the Lord is wonderfully fearing the town up side down, in regard to Spiritual affairs most especially the leaders of the sects, or worshipers of the beast, through His ministers and servants. We ask the prayers of all the Saints in our behalf, as we are all weak vessels, unlearned and ignorant men and also that God may send us someone more familiar with the Scriptures and a powerful instrument in the hands of God, and that God will carry on His cause with rapid progress over the head of all opposition. Your Bro. saved and sanctified.
