The Holy City.

__________

The beautiful city of Zion,
Whose builder and maker is God,
Is the glorious church of the ransomed,
Who are saved and redeemed by the blood.

O glorious city, how precious!
Thy light is so clear and so bright,
That the Lord Jesus Crhist who doth save us
Hath now banished, and freed us from night.

No-night in this beautiful city;
All is day to the sanctified soul,
For the land’s all flooded with glory
In this beautiful city of gold.

No enemies ever can enter,
Nor can mar the peace of our souls;
For the walls are salvation forever,
And the gates of the city are pearls.

Now no unclean thing can pass over,
For the walls of the city are high;
It is only through Jesus they enter,
It is by life blood they are brought nigh.

O glory to God! O it’s glory!
Eternal redemption we sing;
We never get tired of the story,
All glory and praise to our King.

All honor and glory to our Savior
Who saves us and frees us from sin,
I will praise Thee forever and ever,
For through Thee, death lost its sting.

THE HARVEST IS GREAT.

_____

Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great but the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest that he would send forth laborers into his harvest. – Luke 10:2.

Dear saints, I do feel led of the Lord to write some on this subject, ..nd if possible impress upon the ..inds of those who profess to have ..very thing consecrated to God, the ..ecessity of more laborers being in ..e field. The field is just as large as ..e world, and oh, such a small space ..f it has had real soul harvesting laborers in it. Now while we are praying for God to send laborers into the ..eld, let us as much as possible answer our own prayers; unless you do, ..our prayers on this line will not a..ount to any more than that of the ..an sitting in the house on the stool ..f do-nothing, and praying God … give him daily bread. He means ..or us to take hold of the wheel of ..e car of salvation and help roll it ..ong. The prayer was for more laborers, that more laborers might be ..ent into the field; that the soldiers ..at are ready to fight might have ..eir hands untied, that they can go ..r and near and preach the true ..ospel. How often people say that ..certain brother in their midst ought ..o be out working for the Lord and ..ould do so much good, and at the ..ame time knowing that he has to ..ork by the days’ work to keep his children. Dear saints, the preacher’s ..amily cannot live on the wind; may God awaken the church to their du… Is it possible that God calls one ..an to leave his wife and children to ..uffer want, and go to preach the ..ospel to others while he lets them ..ay at home and work to support ..eir families, and some of them lay..g up of this world’s goods, neglecting to help those who deal out spiritual food? Will God bless them in it? But whoso hath this world’s goods and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth. — 1 Jno. 3:17, 18. The people after being hungry ..or some spiritual food, send for a ..oly man to preach for them, and ..hen a Holy Ghost sermon is preached it is food to their souls, and they ..aim they have been mightily built ..p. But when the preacher starts a..ay, after he has labored with them ..or weeks and sometimes months a..ay from his family who were needing his labor, they begin to see how ..ttle they will have to make up to get ..im home, and sometimes he has to ..orrow the money to get home. I speak of some things that have come under my observation. I have known holiness preachers to labor for two months or more in one county, with holiness professors, and then have to borrow money to get home and then go to work with his hands to repay it. Some spent years preaching and laboring for souls, and at the same time laboring with their hands to support their families, and then be called into other fields, and their families suffer want in some instances, and so-called children of God all around them. Oh that God would show his people what their duties are! While God calls some to go leave all, preach his gospel, he has made provisions for them in his word, they that preach the gospel shall live of the gospel. God does not want them to be stall-fed nor dressed in finery, but that they should be looked after and see that they are not stopped out of the work. If you have been made partakers of their spiritual things, your duty is also to minister unto them in temporal things. Let him that is taught in the word, communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. — Gal. 6:6. For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. — 1 Cor. 9:9. If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things. — 1 Cor. 9:11.

Dear saints, let us obey all the word of God. If you love God’s cause, see that the wife and children of those out in the work are cared for. Just think how you love your wife and children, and that God is permitting you to stay at home with them. How would you feel if God impressed you to leave home and work for him, and you would obey the call; forsake all to follow him, leaving your wife and children, surrounded with the saints, and you would think they will not let them suffer; but after awhile you get a letter that they are out of bread, and don’t know where they will get the next. Oh dear reader, none but the worker in the field knows how one feels under such circumstances. This may sometimes be only a neglect of duty, but it is often a serious one. If it takes all that you can make to support your family, how can a minister that is donating all his time to the service of God, support his family? I believe that God intends for us to bear one another’s burdens, as well as to share the blessings. If the saints would work for God as the sinner does for the devil, there would be thousands getting saved that are not. Instead of seeing how little we can do, let us see how much we can do. If we have the mind of Jesus we will be looking out after souls that he died to save and such as are starving for the pure word of God. The cry is coming from every direction, Come over and help us or we die; and some one must leave home to carry the glad tidings of joy to poor dying souls. Will it be you, or will it be I? If God has not called us let us help some one he has called. We can encourage those that are out by seeing after those left at home. I fear that we do not think of this matter as we should. A true man of God that is called into the work has many things to go through that no man knows any thing about. Remember that Jesus says, As much as ye do it unto one of these little ones you have done it unto me. And when you fail to minister unto their wants, you have neglected Jesus. Just think, if Jesus were here upon earth, and he were destitute of food and raiment, could you go along and not make an effort to do something for him; and if you did not, would you not feel sad over it. Well he says, As you do to the least of these, so have you done to me. May God help you to look around and see if you have not neglected Jesus in this way. Oh yes, says one, Christianity begins at home, that is often repeated for an excuse. Well suppose a preacher is called to come and preach for you? what if he were to make the same excuse, you would say that if that man is called to preach, he ought to forsake all and do it. Yes, a true man of God cannot turn away from the calls. He says, I must go and trust my family in the hands of God. He leaves home and yet finds the people lean in their experience. He begins to work and pray for God to restore them to the sweet rest in Jesus. God uses him as means to bring about the grand result. Oh how delicious the gospel is to the soul that has been hungering for it! They are made to praise God for his goodness to the children of men, and thank God that he ever sent some one to feed their hungry souls; but now will they remember the preacher and his family? He that soweth sparingly, shall reap also sparingly, and he which soweth bountifully, shall also reap bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give, not grudgingly, or of necessity; for God loveth a cheerful giver. He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack. — Prov. 28:27.

Our companions make a greater sacrifice than we do; but if they prove faithful, they will go with us to our Father’s house to share the eternal glories: for they have borne the burden of home duties, while we have borne it away fighting against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Dear workers, let us be faithful to our call; let us be up and doing while it is day, for the night will soon be here when our work will be done.

W. M. Wilson.

TESTIMONIES.

Thy Testimonies are Wonderful.
Psa. 119:129.

_____

Kenesaw, Neb.

Dear Saints: I feel it will be to the glory of God to write my testimony. I am still trusting God. I do praise his holy name for the blessings I enjoy. I am all on the altar to do his holy will. I am so thankful he does permit me to come to him and ask that I might receive. He has healed me several times, for which I give him all the glory. Pray for me.

Your sister saved and sanctified,

Alice M. Eberline.

Dear Saints: I feel led of the Lord to write my testimony. I am saved and sanctified wholly, for which I give the Lord all the praise. The Lord does lead me by his good Spirit all the time. He gives me health right along. I can praise him all the time. Glory to God! Your sanctified brother in the Lord, and in the one body,

Dear Saints: May the Lord bless and keep you all. It has been a long time since I have written my testimony. I am saved and kept by his all-cleansing blood. The way grows brighter and more blessed every day. My soul doth magnify the Lord. Truly God is good to his children. Dear saints, let us live pure lives, for the Lord will soon make his appearance. Your sister saved and sanctified,

Dear Saints: I have felt led of the dear Lord to give in my testimony. For ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord. I know I am his witness. He has done so much for me. O I am so thankful that I am saved and under the blood. O praise the Lord! It will be four years this fall since my eyes were truly opened to the whole truth. I am saved from the Free Methodist sect. They are in such great darkness. May the dear Lord save many of them.

Your sister saved in Jesus,

Mrs. Ann E. Apple.

Dear Saints: Have felt for some time to write my testimony to the glory of God. I was deep in sin till last fall, when God for Jesus’ sake spake peace to my soul. Little did I think, when deep in sin, what God could do for me. He wonderfully liberated me and gave me a different understanding of his word. Oh he so wonderfully changed me from a lost and careless sinner to a child of God. Sometimes I feel as though there was something in my heart that I think and know by God’s word ought not to be there. I ask all God’s children through the Trumpet to pray for me that I may understand and be clearly sanctified.

Your saved brother,

Ruby Neff.

Dear Brethren: My testimony is I am saved and rejoicing in the love of God. I know he has power to save to the uttermost. I have been in the service of God over fifty years and have always found him a present help in time of need. I rejoice that I am in the straight and plain Bible line of salvation. Glory to God! I am willing to go through with Jesus. I am passing through deep waters of affliction, but I just remember that Christ suffered affliction, and I have him to lean upon, and it is enough. The dear Lord has removed one of my treasures from toil to rest. God in his mercy saw fit to remove him. I am a widow and am sixty- nine years old, and I trust in the Lord for all things. There are but few saints here, and we are very hungry to hear the true gospel. We do greatly desire to have some of God’s ministers come here in this sin darkened place. Your sister,

B. A. Williams.

_____

Vinland, Kan.

Dear Saints: I feel it would be to the glory of God for me to testify for Jesus this morning. I praise God for the victory I have in my soul. I found the Lord precious to my soul about three years ago. Then lived in a justified state until last July. I then lost my experience because I would not walk in the light I had, but I was in a miserable condition. I just went on in that way resisting the Holy Spirit until my heart became hardened. Mother and Father would pray for me but it seemed as though their prayers had no effect on me, and last winter a preacher was here, and he was teaching that there would be repentance beyond the grave. I tried to believe that, but I had more light than that. So my soul could not rest on that. The word says, “Some shall depart from the faith giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils.” Last month the Lord convicted my soul, so I had to turn to the Lord or be eternally lost. I sought the Lord with all my heart, and he spoke peace to my soul, and I am praising him to day for a full and free salvation. I got this freedom by obeying God and giving up all to follow him. I am dead to the world and its pleasures, and alive in Christ Jesus. I have been healed the second time very instantly when it seemed I was at deaths’ door. I had conjestion of the stomach. My parents were very uneasy about me. My friends wanted us to send for the doctor, but I had a better physician than any earthly doctor, so I obeyed the word and sent for the elders, and was healed immediately. I can not praise the Lord enough for his mercy to me. I ask the prayers of the children of God that we may stand firm on the solid rock.

Your sister in Christ, saved and sanctified,

Sallie Daily.

Glover’s Gap, W. Va.

Dear Trumpet Readers: The Lord would have me write my experience. Four years ago last Febuary I was awakened at a Methodist meeting and began calling on God to save me. Night after night I went forward to the altar and God put the test on me. The first, Would I pray with my family night and morning; the second came one night after meeting oft my way home, Would I quit tobacco; the third, Would I make restitution. I was holding in my possession that which belonged to another. The other party did not know it, but God knew it, and when I met the requirement of God he pardoned me, blotted out my sins and I then identified myself with the Methodist people. Was made a class leader.

I was not deceived as to their condition. They were practicing that which God showed me was a sin, and I was saved from such as using tobacco, dressing like the world, taking up a reproach against neighbors. So the Lord used me to rebuke sin in high places and in low. I was true, yet I had two natures, but God’s love kept the old man under and I often cried out, “O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from this body of death.” So they tried by strategy to get me removed as a leader. But God was helping me, and bringing to my remembrance the things he would have me know.

About fourteen months after being pardoned I entered into the rest that God has promised to his children. For John says, He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire. The fire had consumed the dross; the old body of sin went down into the tomb, and I can say with Paul, “I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me and the life I now live, I live by faith in the Son of God.” And when I witnessed to this wonderful love of God, they rejected it and the preachers assailed me from the pulpit, and then God said, “Come out from among them,” and I obeyed.

I now see the evil of this sectarianism. I am not prejudiced. I know whereof I speak. They all have a set of principles for men to embrace, whereas Christ is the door; any man climbing up any other way is a thief and a robber. They are hirelings, they are robbing men of their hard earned money. And that is not the worst, they are robbing them of their inheritance. I have seen this here. They tried it with me, but God chooses his own.

Your brother pardoned and sanctified,

I. E. Shipman.

DIVINE HEALING
—OF—
SOUL AND BODY.

A New Book,
—by—
E. E. BYRUM.

_____

This book is just fresh from the author’s pen, and a glance at the contents is enough to convince any one of its interest and value to those seeking a more thorough khowledge of the Divine Being, and his dealings with people at the present time, as well as in days past.

The first part of the book very plainly marks out the way from sin unto full salvation, according to the teaching of the sacred word.

It presents the gospel truth in such a way as to throw a gleam of light into the pathway of the sinner, and enable him to see that there is hope beyond, through the mercies of a blessed Redeemer.

The BELIEVER is led to see the beauties of full salvation, and the joys in a life of Christian perfection.

THE HEALING OF THE BODY

constitutes the second part of the book. This consists of twenty-six chapters on doctrinal subjects, exposing and overthrowing false ideas and theories concerning the healing power in these last days, showing when, how, and under what circumstances and conditions God heals the sick and afflicted at the present time.

It gives a history and testimonies of healing from the time of Abraham, through the different ages, up to the present time.

The third part of the book consists of the

WITNESSES OF TO DAY.

These are wonderful testimonies of persons who have been healed within the last few years by divine power; such as being instantly restored to sight after having been blind for years; the lame throw away their crutches; broken bones are instantly healed; invalids who have suffered for years immediately arise and walk, after the prayer of faith is offered, etc. The author is personally acquainted, with nearly all the parties who have herein given their testimonies, and gives their names and addresses in the book, so that persons doubting the truthfulness of the same can write to the parties themselves.

It will be a precious volume to those who are afflicted in either soul or body. The chapters on faith, and also other subjects, will strengthen the faith of the reader, and aid in a closer walk with Him who is the “giver of every good and perfect gift.”

It contains 248 good-sized pages; good, plain print, on heavy paper. Neatly bound in cloth, $ .75. Library (half morocco), marble edge, $1.10. Send two cent stamp for special terms to agents. Address,

WEST LIBERTY, O., CAMP MEETING.

The meeting at West Liberty, O., will be a camp instead of a grove meeting. The time is changed to Sept. 1-9. Let this be a general gathering of the saints. Let as many of the saints in neighboring congregations as can make arrangements to camp upon the grounds so as to lesson the burden upon the brethren at that place. Those not able to camp upon the grounds will be provided for. As the C. M. will be held five miles farther south than formerly it will be very inconvenient for us to meet any one at Bellefontaine. Those coming from east or west to Bellefontaine change cars and come to West Liberty. Those coming on the N. Y. P. and O. R. R. stop at Kennard and inquire for Jacob Detweiler, or stop at Urbana and change cars, and come to West Liberty, as all through trains do not stop at Kennard. Let every one that can come. To any one wishing to tent on the ground, we can furnish tents 9×9 ft. for $1.25 during the meeting and larger ones in proportion. Any one wishing to hire tents, please let us know and we will secure them for you and have them on the ground. State the size you want.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD.

__________

Beaver Dam, Ind. Camp., Aug. 12, ’92.

Dearly Beloved Saints: We are happy to report a glorious sweeping victory on the Deerfield camp. Great was the Holy One in the midst of his people. The altar was pretty well filled with seekers two and three times a day, and many souls were set free by the power of God, and there was great joy in the camp, much holy leaping and praising God. The real work of salvation accomplished, is written down in heaven, by Him who can count without erring. Bless his dear name! So we will not count the spoils of the battle. As usual, quite a number were healed. Six were buried with Christ in baptism.

At this meeting we were happy to meet dear Bro’s Lyall and McDowell, of Waseon, Ohio. These brethren are from Scotland, and have been called out of all sectism by the Holy Spirit and by the word. They are true uncompromising servants of the Most High God, who accept all the word of God as their heritage, and reject all the creeds of confusion, and traditions of men. They had expected to accompany us to this camp meeting, but having received a call to Cleveland, O. where they have both labored, and where they have many friends, the Lord sent them to that city. The Lord bless their labors, and their testimony to the truth in that place.

On Monday evening we observed the sacred ordinances of God’s house, about one hundred saints being present to keep the sacred memorials of our Savior. O bless God for his presence and grace and glory with his obedient children, and for the privilege of following the Lamb whithersoever he goeth! We closer Wednesday, the 10th, and the next day took our leave of the dear saints and came on to this place. The number of the names of those that accompanied us to this place, was just one score, — 20. Truly we were a happy company, in the Lord. O praise God for the fellowship of the saints in light!

Dear Saints: God bless you all with the fulness of his love. I wish to say to the glory of God that the tabernacle meeting at Langdon, Mo. was a victory for God. During the meeting there were nine consecrations in all; some for pardon and some for purity of heart and the church at that place was strengthened. Meeting began here in Forest City on the night of the fifth, and some have begun to inquire the way of salvation. Pray for the work at this place.

Plano, Cai.., Aug. 3, 1892.

To all the Saints of God: We closed meeting at Portersville Sunday evening, Sep. 31. Our work here was mostly with professors of different denominations and the Lord gave us the victory. The ice is broken and the people have their eyes open. No doubt the harvest of souls will be reaped next meeting. The fire is now burning, praise the Lord! We have the tabernacle pitched now in this town. It is only about two and a half miles from Portersville. The tabernacle was full the first night. Bro. and Sister Bently are with us now. Have left all for Jesus. The Lord sees fit sometimes to have us suffer need, to prove ourselves in these new fields of labor before the people seem willing to help us any. Sectism in this part of Cal. is not very strong and the Lord is bringing out his flock.

Well I would say to all the saints in the Eastern states that in this distant land all the spiritual men and women think just as we do, — perilous times, world is getting worse and worse; and I find some poor starved souls. God is sending fishers and hunters to fish them and hunt them. This is God’s word and there is not enough power in earth to stop it.

Well we have suffered in this state more than in any other place in our lives, and yet it has been a benefit to us, a good education; we are now where we have to depend on God for help.

Your brother saved to the uttermost,

James Willis.

St. Petersburg, Pa.

Dear Saints of God, Greeting: This morning finds us all saved in Jesus. Since our last report, the good Lord has led us on from victory to victory. From Stanley, W. Va., we went to Mole Hill, where we had a very precious meeting; many souls were awakened to the truth, and confessed that we had taught them the straight way. There was no great harvest of souls, but we trust that the seed sown will be as bread cast upon the waters. We may plant, others may water, but God must give the increase.

We next came to Glover’s Gap, W. Va., found some dear honest souls, but on account of the so called holiness teaching, the people seemed to be disgusted with the idea of holiness, but their minds were soon changed by the straight word of God. From there we came to Benwood, W. Va. where we expected to hold meeting, but the way seemed to be hedged about, so we took train for St. Petersburgh, Pa. where we met with the people of God on Lord’s day. We found them full of fire for God, but sorry to find that some have lost the grace of God out of their hearts; but they manifested a desire to get back to God. We expect to remain in these parts until after camp meeting.

Your saved brother and co-workers,

Wm. E. Warren.

To the Saints of the Most High: We are glad to report another victory in Jesus’ name. We commenced meeting at Rockville, Mo., June 3d and held till the 20th. Some six or seven were converted and five followed the Lord Jesus in baptism. Bro. John Steele and wife were with us, rendering great assistance in the name of the Master. We found this place almost wholly given up to idolitry. Three meeting houses and no prayer meeting, nothing but socials, festivals, and frolics. However we found a few souls who were disgusted at all this, nor had they bowed to the “Base Ball” idol, with which many of the carnally minded professors were carried away, who prefered to go to the ball ground rather than the house of God. Oh, would to God they would stop professing the name of Christ and repent! We closed the meeting and went home for a few days and returned on the 2d of July, and continued the meeting about ten days. Had a good meeting on the 4th. The Lord blessed us with a good congregation and filled our souls with his love. We removed the weekly prayer-meeting to private houses. May God bless the little ones at that place and add to their number such as shall be saved.

Your brother in Christ, sanctified wholly,

R. F. Rapp.

Hartsells, Ala., Aug. 11, 1892.

Dear Saints: May great grace abide with you continually. Amen. We arrived here on the 23d and commenced meeting the same night. We found the saints in a pretty good condition except a little leaven of division of unsoundness, and they had gotten their eyes on man instead of looking alone to Jesus. But the word like a hammer broke every thing in pieces contrary to His will. Glory to Jesus! Many souls saved, both justified and sanctified who gave up tobacco, snuff and coffee. God led us as usual to give them the light on the evil of those narcotics, and a great many have quit them that did not get saved. On the 9th eight were buried with Christ and God wonderfully witnessed. The same night we had ordinance meeting, which was a most wonderful time. One justified and five sanctified, with glorious shouts of victory. Glory to God! About ten more to be baptized yet soon. There are many calls over this country. We go about eight or nine miles northeast, where we expect a glorious harvest. We feel the great Emanuel is moving over this sunny South with marshaling hosts and victory inscribed on the floating banner, sounding the great trumpet and gathering the elect from the four winds, and many are being gathered in Christ, out of sect confusion. Several who are not saved are taking their names out of the sects, and the Lamb and his followers will have the victory. Glory to his name! Any one can correspond with us who desire to have us labor with them in the South. Pray for us mightily.

Yours for the battle of the great day,

J. F. Lundy & G. R. Achor.

Melrose, O., Aug. 8, 1892.

Dear Saints of the Most High, Greeting; We left the dear ones at Walkerton, Ind. on the 30th ult. in the midst of a glorious revival, where many souls found peace in their God of redemption from sin and iniquity. On our way to Melrose, the train stopped long enough for us to greet a number of the beloved ones who had gathered at the depot at Payne, Ohio. Our much beloved Bro. A. J. Kilpatrick came on with us, and remained over the Lord’s day, 31st. We found the people at this point not in a good condition. Divided among themselves, two factions. But after the third meeting the heads of the actions came together and confessed their faults to one another, and at night service they came out openly to the world, and knelt down at the altar, and the others followed, and God wonderfully united them in his love, and souls were at the altar about every service, some for sanctification and others for pardon. We can not tell the number. My prayer is that God’s ministers going into a place will look to God for discernment, and not have their ears open to catch all that people have to say to them, and then take sides, and rail out on the other. Beloved, let us all be true to God and stand upon the platform, (The Word) which makes all one. “And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord; and shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears.” May God bless all his people and keep the dear ones at Melrose true to the end. We next go to Beaver Dam C. M. Pray for us.

Your humble brother and sister,

J. A. & A. J. Dillon & Co.

Tulsa, I. T., Aug. 3, 1892.

Dear Trumpet Readers: We are thankful for the privilege of again testifying to you that the Lord is still very precious to our soul. He is giving us complete victory over all the powers of darkness. Praise his holy name for leading my soul “to fountains of living waters!” We are in the work of the Lord this summer and find much to do in this wicked land for the Master, as the enemy has almost undisputed rule here. Yet a few are willing to walk the narrow way cast up for the redeemed of the Lord. We came to the Territory about the middle of June. The work that started up one year ago, had been blighted, and about all had gone back to the weak and beggarly ways of the world. We were made sorry to think the enemy had made such inroads in the ranks of those who were so bright for the Lord. We commenced meeting with real victory in our souls and the Lord wonderfully blessed us in preaching the word which resulted in a few dear souls being reclaimed, and also a few more were won to Jesus. And we hope and pray they may stand for Jesus amid all the confusion. The meeting lasted three and one half weeks, and much gospel seed has been sown, as people have been at the meeting who live in the Sac and Fox country and many other distant settlements. This is a good field of labor, and many calls for the pure gospel to be preached, and if we were in company with others we could doubtless reach many points where poor souls are groping in darkness. Who is willing to come this “Indian’s land,” and work for Jesus? Souls are as precious in the West as in the East, but the laborers are very scarce. Brethren in the East, “Come over and help us,” and do not run back the first time you meet the enemy, as souls are at stake. We also held a few meetings at Mingo, I. T. and found a few of God’s own who were very hungry for the pure word. They are starved on the husks of Babylon and they desire our return. Brethren pray for the work in the West, as the workers who are willing to stand with the work are few. I remain your saved brother in Christ, ready to do the bidding of the Master. From here we expect, the Lord willing, to go to Nowata, I. T. This is a new field of labor. Praise ye the Lord!

Dear Trumpet Readers: To day I am trusting God the rock of my salvation. I praise God for his saving and his keeping power. I was saved 15 months ago, and ever since it has been a feast to my soul to tell of the goodness of God, and to praise his dear name. I am sixty-four years old, and I lived in the sect ever since I was 15 years old. I saw by the word of God I was in darkness and I obeyed the call of God, “Come out of her my people.” O I do praise God for bringing me out of Babylon and making me free, for whosoever the Son maketh free is free indeed. Praise his dear name! I am saved, sanctified and on the altar.

Dear Brethren: As I am led of God to write my testimony, I will obey the call. I am 15 years old and can tell what the Lord has done for me. He has saved and sanctified my soul and has so wonderfully healed me of diseases. When about four years of age I was taken with typhoid malaria fever which settled in my head and was the cause of my being deaf. About four months ago I was healed. The devil come very near overcoming me on that point, but the Lord gave us the victory. The devil brings on symptoms yet, but I know the work is done. I have been healed several different times. Pray for me that I may be obedient and do my whole duty.

Dear Trumpet Readers: I want to glorify God in telling of his love and mercy to me. I am poor in this world’s goods, but rich in faith, and an heir of the kingdom. Oh praise the Lord! He still keeps me saved by his mighty power. I am still deaf, have been deaf for thirteen years. But I praise the Lord Jesus that he is my Savior and physician. Last March I was taken down with the LaGrippe, and was very sick for two weeks. Through the laying on of hands and anointing with oil in the name of the Lord, I soon received the witness of the Spirit to my healing. Such a blessing came down upon us. I do just give God all the glory. I was told by different person to take medicine or I would die. I said, I am willing to die, but if it be God’s will he will heal me. I praise the Lord that he is restoring me to perfect health by trusting in him. O praise his holy name! It pays to trust the Lord for all things, both spiritual and temporal. May God bless you all.

Your sister, saved and sanctified,

Clara Beaver.

Drowned, while bathing near Coloma, in Paw Paw River, on the afternoon of July 27, 1892, Sister Anna Brooks; aged fourteen years, three months, twenty-seven days. Sister Anna gave her heart to Jesus just a few weeks before this sad accident happened, and in speaking to one of her acquaintances a few days previous to her death, she spoke of the joy of salvation in her heart, and her determination to live a life devoted to God. Father, Mother, she has gone, but your loss is her eternal gain. Funeral services were held at the Kenney school house, after which Anna was laid to rest in the Fish Cemetery. We pray God to bless all sorrowing friends, and may you be prepared to gain a home with Anna forevermore.

One less at home!
Missed day by day from its accustomed place;
But, cleansed and saved and perfect in grace,
One more in heaven!

One less at home!
One voice of welcome hushed, and evermore,
One farewell word unspoken; on the shore,
Where parting comes not, one soul landed more,
One more in heaven!

One less at home!
A sense of loss that meets us at the gate,
Within, a place unfilled and desolate;
And far away, our coming to await,
One more in heaven!

Died, in Greebush, Clinton Co., Mich., July 26, 1892, Charles P. Lyon, husband of Sister Lodema Lyon. His death was instantaneous, while at work for his neighbor hauling wheat. He was struck by lightning and went into eternity without a moment’s warning. He was fifty-two years of age, leaves a wife and six children to mourn their loss. A short time ago when Bro. Warner put a piece in the Trumpet saying we were now in the perihelia season, when storms and floods were sweeping the earth, and our only safety was in God, this man was heard to say, Bro. Warner put that piece in just to scare somebopy. Oh the Lord God help one and all to be ready, is my prayer.

“When judgement thunders cloud the sky,
And storms are downward hurled,
The ark of God comes floating by
To save a drowning world

In the ark, in the ark there is room for you and me,
And a refuge from the overwhelming flood;
’Tis the day of grace, Jesus makes salvation free,
And there’s safety in the ark of God ”

HEALTH DEPARTMENT.

DIET AND EXERCISE.

_____

UPON this subject John Todd writes: “Many shut themselves up entirely, in unpleasant weather, during the long winter, or whenever they find a pressure of business within, or unpleasant weather without; and yet they eat just as voraciously as if they took exercise every day. To say that no attention is to be paid to diet is madness. You must pay attention to it sooner or later. If you are faithful to take regular, vigorous exercise every day in the open air, then you may eat, and pay less attention to quantity and quality. But if you take but little exercise, you may be sure that you are to be a severe sufferer if you do not take food in the same proportion. I do not ask you to diet, i, e., to be as difficult, and as changeable, and as whimsical as possible, as if the great point were to see how much you can torment yourself and others; but I do ask you to beware as to the quantity of food which you hurry into the stomach three times each day, without giving it any rest. It is the quantity, rather than the kinds of food which destroys students: it is certainly true, that the more simple the food, the better. If you are unusually hurried this week, if it storms to day, so that, in these periods, you cannot go out, and take exercise — let your diet be very sparing, though the temptation to do otherwise will be very strong. When, by any means, you have been injured by your food, have overstepped the proper limits as to eating, I have found, in such cases, that the most perfect way to recover is to abstain entirely from food for three or six meals. By this time, the stomach will be free, and the system restored. I took the hint from seeing an idiot who sometimes had turns of being unwell: at such times, he abstained entirely from food for about three days, in which time Nature recovered herself, and he was well. This will frequently, and perhaps generally, answer instead of medicine, and is every way more pleasant. The most distinguished physicians have ever recommended this course. It is a part of the Mahometan and pagan systems of religion, that the body should be recruited by frequent fastings. Let a bull-dog be fed in his infancy upon pap, Naples’ biscuit, and boiled chicken; let him be wrapped in flannel at night, sleep on a good feather-bed, and ride out in a coach for an airing, and if his posterity do not become short-lived, puny, and valetudinarian, it will be a wonder. If there is any one thing in the history of the celebrated Mathers which tends to account for their long lives, notwithstanding their astonishing labors as students, it is their frequent and stated days of fasting. A man of property, who had for years been abusing his stomach, at last found his health on a rapid decline. Nature could endure it no longer. He went to consult the celebrated Dr. Spring, of Watertown, Massachusetts. He stated the symptoms of his case so clearly, that the learned physician could not mistake the nature of the disease. “I can cure you, sir,” said he, “if you will follow my advice.” The patient promised most implicitly to do so. “Now,” says the doctor, “you must steal a horse.” “What! steal a horse?” “Yes — you must steal a horse. You will then be arrested, convicted, and placed in a situation where your diet and regimen will be such, that in a short time your health will be perfectly restored.”

BE REGULAR IN YOUR DIET.

“Nature loves regularity. She will permit you to dine at any hour you please, and will conform to your wishes in almost everything, if you will allow her to depend upon regularity. Some will tamper with themselves, and cultivate a morbid appetite, by eating something, if it be nothing of more worth than a handful of hot peppermints, between almost every meal. And then, at night, among the last things they do, they eat something before retiring to rest. That weariness and faintness which are the calls of Nature for rest and sleep, are met by a new supply of food. Nobody ever repented having eaten too little between, meals. I do not wish to go into particulars; but the habit of closing the day or evening by loading the stomach with fruit or food, will, sooner or later, visit you with fearful retribution.”

I have a boy in the West who is in business for himself, and I ask the prayers of the saints for him that he may get saved.

Your saved sister all on the altar for Jesus,

Emma J. Billig.

Dear Saints: I want to tell you through the Trumpet I am saved from all sin, and sanctified as a second work of grace. I am praising the Lord for sending his ministering servants to this place. I want to tell you I am out of Babylon. May the Lord bless his true saints and keep them filled with the fire of God. We are rejoicing because our names are written in heaven. My wife is justified freely and is thirsting after holiness. She wants the saints to pray for her that she may be made every whit whole.

Dear Saints: I am led of the Lord to write my testimony. I am praising the dear Lord above all things, because he saves me from all sin. I was a long time getting out clear for God; but praise his name, I have a clean heart this morning. I have a real satisfying portion of God’s grace. Hallelujah to the Lamb! I find it so sweet to my soul to trust in Jesus, just to take him at his word. I am your saved and sanctified sister, washed and cleansed from all sin.

Dear Trumpet Readers: I do praise God to day for what he has done for me. He has helped me and know he always will, when I come to him in the right way. I do not belong to any sect. I stand alone for Jesus. I am for the Lord, and I don’t find any food for me in the sect. Sometimes I feel weak for I stand alone here, yet I know the Lord is with me. Now I beg the prayers of all the Lord’s people for me. I have catarrh in my head, and trust it will be cured through the prayers of the saints. I ask the prayers for my husband that he will turn to the Lord. I trust that the dear Lord will send some of his holy ministers here in the near future to preach the the truth in this place.

Dear Saints of God: I feel led of the Lord to write my testimony through the Trumpet. I am saved and trusting in God. I have been afflicted in body, but I went to God in prayer and asked him to heal my body, and he did so, and I give him all the glory for what he has done. There are no saints at this place. I am surrounded with sin and wickedness. Pray for me, and pray for my unsaved husband that he may get saved and live for God.

Dear Brethren: I am praising God for full salvation to day. I never heard the true light till 15 months ago. I obeyed the call and came out of darkness into the marvelous light of God. Oh I do praise God for what he is doing for his children, in our neighborhood. It is a feast to our souls to meet and worship the true God in spirit and in truth. I thank God for his true plan of salvation that saves to the uttermost Praise his holy name!

Dear Saints: I am now saved again in the precious blood of Jesus. I was saved and sanctified at the Beaver Dam camp meeting last year and remained saved until last spring, when I lost sight of Jesus, and fell back. Then I went to the Walkerton grove meeting, and Jesus spake peace to my soul. I feel that I am saved, but not wholly sanctified yet. I want the sanctifying Spirit and the fire of God in my soul; something that will take out every thing that is of the devil. Dear saints of the living God, pray for me, as I am weak in faith.

Dear Saints: As I have never written to the Trumpet, I feel it would be to the glory God for me to write. The dear Lord saves and sanctifies me wholly just now. Praise God for a complete salvation that saves from all sin! I am wholly consecrated to do God’s will in every thing. Surely I have tasted that the Lord is good. It seems to me sometimes that I do such a little for the Lord, and am of such little use to him. I believe in living a testimony; there is more in living a testimony than there is in telling it. Pray for me, dear ones, for I have much to bear, but thanks be to God who giveth the victory. God bless you all.

Your sister,

Betty Jolly.

Dear Saints: We are praising God for salvation full and free, received by faith in our blessed Savior. We did not hear the true gospel preached in its purity until the Lord sent Bro. Miller from Ohio, who preached the true word. We praise God that we were permitted to hear this blessed gospel. We had been led on by blind sectarians, professing, but denying the power, and as blind as they, but praise God, my eyes are open and I am free, out of all sect confusion, standing alone with Jesus. Praise God for this blessed evening light! I want the saints all to pray for us. From your humble brother and sister fully saved,

Christopher & Elmina Beltz.
