THE BREAD OF LIFE.

—:o:—

In love, each day, God’s children meet
Around one sacred board,
And eat, as from a father’s hand,
At the table of the Lord.

The board is neither wood, nor stone,
’Tis made of faith and love;
No Judas, chair can there be found,
Our bread is from above.

Christ Jesus is the bread of life,
New life to all He gives,
Who eat and drink as He provides,
And for the Master lives.

A thousand years are as one day,
And space the same with God,
His table reaches everywhere,
He feeds eachs child abroad.

He owns and claims His little ones,
Tho’ foes may interfere,
With mighty power He overrules,
And takes from death all fear.

O! that the world could understand
The goodness of our Lord,
His power and willingness to save,
All who believe His Word.

THE THESSALONIAN BRETHREN.

—†o†—

WHEN the Apostle Paul was writing to the brethren at Thessalonica he spoke highly of the justified life they were living and exhorted them on to a sanctified experience. The life that these justified brethren were living is far above the life and experience of many who profess to be sanctified in these days. And such persons would do well to give the life of these Thessalonian brethren a careful study. Those who claim to be justified and are living far beneath their privileges would undoubtedly be able to see that they are not living up to a full standard of a sanctified life. If you are therefore not living and walking up to all the light you have in a justified experience, how can you expect to enter a sanctified experience? for the Lord will not give us more light until we walk up to that we already have. These beloved brethren were not yet sanctified? still the Apostle was so rejoiced over them that he was led to give thanks to God for them all because of their steadfastness of faith and joy in the Holy Ghost. The Apostle made mention of them in his prayers, an example that every follower of the Lord should be careful to observe, and pray for one another and especially those that are weak in the faith. He remembered also without ceasing, their work of faith, and labor of love, and patience of hope in the Lord Jesus Christ. — 1 Thess. 1:1, 2.

These brethren did not sit down with folded hands upon the stool of do-nothing, but they manifested the fruits of the Spirit in their lives, first by work of faith, by labor of love, and the patient hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. They were not faithless. Many who claim to be regenerated, and even some who think they are sanctified, are so destitute of faith that they live in one constant strain of doubts and fears. If they ever had faith given to them they have so abused the use of it that it is entirely taken away from them, and they are left to pursue their dead empty profession without either life or true hope in the Lord unless they repent. But not so with these brethren, for they were alive and proving it by their works of faith, and labors of love. They were not afraid to do a little work for the Lord, manifesting patience which is one of the fruits especially commanded of the Christian. Patient in tribulation. In all the little petty trials and vexations of every day life and duty there is need of patience; and if there is a lacking of this one thing needful it is sure proof that there is something wrong somewhere. Not only did they show forth the fruits of the Spirit, but the Apostle calls them brethren, beloved, and spoke of their election of God. ver. 4. And that the Gospel came unto them in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance. ver. 5. They did not need to guess at their salvation, for it was given unto them in power. They had a definite experience, and divine assurance that their sins were forgiven. Ye became followers of us, and of the Lord having received the Word in much affliction with joy in the Holy Ghost. — ver. 6.

They had affliction and persecution as all God’s children have, and which no true child of God can escape. Jesus teaches us that our names will be cast out as evil; but these brethren were not followers of Paulas a man to build a sect and formulate a creed, as men of modern times have and are seeking to do. Paul did not seek to get to himself a great name, of to build for himself a kingdom, but sought to glorify God in the salvation of precious souls. How different from the sectarian priests of to-day. They were also examples to all that believe in Macedonia, and Achai; for from them sounded out the work of the Lord not only in Macedonia, and Acрai, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad, so that we need not speak any thing. — ver. 7, 8. What an influence. What a power these christians at Thessalonica wielded, and as yet they were not sanctified; but they were samples to all that believed, in the regions round about. They were not quiet about their religion. They did not try to hide it under a bushel as many of the modern christians do, who smother and cover up the truth that it may not be seen, but sounded or shouted it out, so that they were heard of in every place; and their faith and works showed to all that they were followers of God in deed, and truth; in so much that the Apostle did not need to speak about them to bring to notice. And when they were heard from they were not quarreling and fighting among themselves as did the Corinthians, — 3, chap, but were living in a high justified stale which no one need to be ashamed to live. Beloved, many who profess to be sanctified do not live in such a degree of spiritual experience as these justified brethren lived. And dear reader if your life does not come up to the standard that. Paul gives here of these brethren you had better quit your profession and get down upon your knees and get the real possession of this life in your soul; then you can live, and not before. Then you will have power with God in claimihg the promises He has given us, and power with men in leading them in the way of life.

The Apostle was led to give thanks to God because of their accepting the Word which he had preached unto them. For this cause thank we God without ceasing because when receive the Word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth the Word of God, which effectually worketh in you that beleive.

They are again called brethren. — 2:13, 14. This is the second time the apostle calls them brethren. And they also became the followers of the churches of God; not of the sects and division which is contrary to the Word of God. For the third time the Apostle calls them brethren, and desires to come unto them again, but satan hindered. The devil often tries to hinder God’s work through sinners, backsliders, and dead professors, but the Lord moves in His own way to accomplish His own work. The Apostle thought it best to stop at Athens and sent Timotheus to the brethren to establish them. — 3. 1-10. This we find that they were not established, and the Apostle became anxious about them lest they should be tempted above that they were able to bear, and sent to know their faith and was much comforted when Timothy returned with good tidings from them. Although they were not sanctified, yet Timothy had good news to bring to Paul. He did not find them disputing among themselves, back-biting, fault-finding, becoming tatlers and busy-bodies in other mens matters, but found them walking orderly and brought good tidings of their faith and charity. Paul desired to see their face and to perfect that which was lacking in their faith. — ver. 10, although the Apostle gives a glorious account of their lives he realized that they were still lacking the needed grace “where in they could stand.” This letter already points out the marks of a justified man. Read Jer. 23:1-4. giving the highest standard of a justified life, and how few live to the line given in the letter. The Apostle continuing says, “Furthermore.” What! more to come? yes, not withstanding the glorious life they were living there was more to follow. “Furthermore, then we beseech you brethren and exhort you by the Lord Jesus that as ye have received, of us how ye ought to walk and to please God so ye would abound more and more. — 4:1—3. They had been abounding in the work and grace of God, but they were to abound still more. They had received grace but there was a greater grace for them. After exhorting them to abound still more he tells them, For this is the will of God even your sanctification. Thus showing that they were only justified They had received only one work of grace and the Apostle urges them on to the second. For God has not called us unto uncleanness but unto holiness. — ver. 7. After this exhortation and urging unto sanctification, he gives some general direction and instruction concerning brotherly love, touching upon the resurrection, and the coining of the Judgment. — 4:9-13. In 5:1-12 he gives exhortation, and admonition concerning the walk of the brethren in every day life, coming back again to the profession of the real possession. — 16-21. Rejoice ever more, pray without ceasing, in every thing give thanks, quench not the Spirit, despise not prophesying, abstain from all appearance of evil, and the very God of peace sanctify you wholly. Now if these brethren were sanctified in regeneration why did the Apostle frequently urge them on to this blessed experience. And why did he pray for them to be sanctified if they had received it when converted? The facts are these: we have seen first, what they had. That they had all the fruits of the Spirit, and being justified by faith they had peace with God. They were “saved by the washing of regeneration” and lived straight forward justified lives; glorifying God in their works. We see secondly what they did not have. And that was holiness or sanctification. If they had been sanctified Paul would yot have told them that they were yet lacking. For he desired to perfect that which was lacking. Sinners are called unto repentance, but brethren were called, exhorted and urged unto holiness. Had they been sanctified he would not have told them that “this is the will of God,” speaking in the present tense, had it been in the past he would have said it was the will of God, instead of it is the will of God. He also would not have prayed, “and the very God of peace sanctify you wholly.” Thus we find that sanctification was taught to the Thessalonian brethren as a second, and definite work from regeneration, and that it is a present experience. It is not to be put off until death as some teach, but the consecration can be made now, and the believer at once obtain the blessed, and rich experience. This blessing is given to us by the Holy Ghost. We can-not buy it, see Acts 8:18-21. We can-not climb up to it; we can do nothing by which we may merit it; all we can do is to ask and receive. Dear soul is this asking too much? simply asking for what God has promised to give us. After having cast yourself upon Him and trusting Him for the pardon of your sins do you think it too much to ask Him for the “fullness of the blessing of the Gospel of Christ?” It is your privilege to ask and receive “all the fullness of God.” Ho you know that you are living up to all the light you have? Then do not be turned about; stepping out entirely upon OMNIPOTENT and receiving all that He has in store for you; for it is yours, and you dishonor Him by not receiving what He offers to give you.

It is easy to lead christians unto this blessed life, for they want all that God has for them, like the Psalmst their souls pant for the living God as the hart for the water brook. They are not fighting God’s Word to see how much of it they can lay aside and not obey, but delight themselves in God and His law. Opposition never comes from a true child of God but always from backsliders and dead professors; they oppose the truth because the truth is not in them, and therefore they have no love for it. They reject the fight they had and therefore become blind, and will not see that they might believe, nor hear that they might be saved. Beloved let us walk in the light as He is in the light.

Your Bro. in love.

CHRIST THE STANDARD.

—‡o‡—

I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom. Preach the Word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. — 2 Tim. 4:1, 2. I feel thankful that it is the privilege of everyone to tear every idol from them ,and worship the Lord Jesus Christ. I am thankful that it is not too late, for wrongs to be righted. It is not too late to examine our own hearts, and prove ourselves whether we are in the faith or not. It is not too late to assure ourselves, that Christ is abiding in our hearts by faith. If we compare ourselves with the great moral standard, we shall under-stand what our own defects of character, are but whatever our defects and short comings, we should not be discouraged. We must see our sins, and put them away, for Christ cannot abide in a divided heart. Some of our greatest sins which separate our souls from God, are unbelief and hardness of heart. Why is it that we are so unbelieving, unimpressible? the reason for it is, we are filled with self-conceit. If we receive some token of God’s blessings, we take it as a guarantee that we are all right, and when reproof conies we say: “I know that God has accepted me, for He has blessed me and I will not accept this reproof,” what a terrible condition we would be in if the Lord did not bless us! We must study the pattern of character the Lord has given us. If we have a garment to cut, we study the pattern. And in the Christian life, we must give up our own idea and plans, and go according to the pattern. But instead of this, we work away from the pattern. We should not be full of self-conceit; we must say as did John: He must increase, but I must decrease. The more you study and copy the pattern, the less confidence yon will have in self. How the enemy has brought his own spirit into our work, we do not love one another as Christ hath enjoined upon us, because we do not love Christ. If your track is crossed in any way, if any one differs in opinion from you, then in place of feeling humility of mind, in place of carrying your burden to Christ, and asking Him for wisdom and light to know what is truth, you withdraw from him, and are tempted to present your brother’s views in a false fight, that they shall not have influence. We know that this manner of spirit is not of God no matter by whom it is manifested. When views are presented that do not seem in harmony with your own, it should drive you to study your Bible, and investigate it to see if you yourself hold the right position on the subject. That another holds a different opinion, should not stir up the very worst traits of our nature; when you see your case as it stands before God, you will have different ideas in regard to your own defects of character than you now have. You should love your Bro., and say, I am willing to investigate your veiws. Let us come right to the Word and prove what is truth. We should feel the necessity of searching the scriptures for ourselves. We should study God’s word until we know our foundation is on the solid rock. We should dig for the gems of truth. We are to test every man’s doctrine by the law and the testimony; for, says the prophet, if they speak not according to this Word, it is because there is no light in them. John says, he that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. Those who claim to have light from God and yet turn away their ear from hearing the truth are under great deception. Says Jesus, whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. It is vain for us to think that we are prepared for the finishing touch of immortality, while we live in willful transgression of any of God’s precepts. Suppose a brother should come to us and present a matter to us in a different fight than we had ever seen it before, should we come together with those who agree with us, and make sarcastic remarks, or ridicule his position or form a confederacy to misrepresent his ideas? Should we manifest a bitter spirit toward him while neglecting to seek wisdom of God in earnest prayer? While failing to seek counsel of heaven, would you think you were keeping the commandments of God while pursuing such a course toward your Bro.? would you be in a condition to receive the bright beams of heaven’s light, should they flash across your pathway? Would your heart be ready to receive divine illumination? No. You would not recognize the light. All this spirit of bigotry and intolerance must be taken away, and the meekness and lowliness of Christ must take its place before the Spirit of God can impress your minds with divine truth We should come right down to the root of the matter presented, and should not be in a passion where we have no love for our Bro. because his ideas differ from our views. If you do take this position, you say by your action that your own opinion is perfection, and your brother’s erroneous. When a doctrine is presented that does not meet our minds we should go to the Word of God, flee to the Lord in prayer, and give no room for the enemy to come in with suspicion and prejudice; and never permit the spirit to be manifested that arraigned the priests and rulers against the Redeemer of the world. The Lord sends light among us to prove of what manner of spirit we are. We are not to deceive ourselves; when anything comes to our attention that we do not understand, we kneel down and ask God to give us the right position, and then we can come to a right understanding, and see eye to eye. If we only understand the evil of this spirit of intolerance, how we would shun it. We join ourselves to the enemy of God and man, when we accuse our brethren, for satan was an accuser of the brethren. We bear false witness when we add a little to our brother’s words, and give them a false coloring, and in the sight of God, we are not doers, but transgressors of the law. We are not on the Lord’s side; we are on the side of him who hates, destroys, and tears down the cause of truth. We should pray for one another instead of drawing apart. He who keeps the words of truth, abides in Christ. In him is the love of God perfected. We should be ready to accept light from God from whatever source it may come, instead of rejecting it because it does not come through the channel from which we expected it. When Jesus opened the Word of God at Nazareth and read Isaiah’s prophecy of His work and mission, and declared that it was fulfilled in their hearing, they began to doubt and question. They said: “Is not this the carpenter’s son, is not this His mother called Mary? And His brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon and Judas? And His sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things? And they were offended in Him; they did not expect light from Him, and they rejected the message of God. When he who had been born blind, received his sight, and came to the pharisees and told them of Jesus, they said. “Thou wast altogether born in sin, and dost thou teach us? and they cast him out.” They settled themselves in unbelief, in rejection of Christ, though they professed to believe in God. God has commanded us to love one another. If you see defects in a brother, do not say: I have lost all confidence in Him, before you have done your whole duty. Have you any right to speak in that to another? The scripture commands us to build one another up in the most holy faith. We are to be holy in all manner of conversation. Are your minds broad enough to take in all the circumstances, perplexities and trials of the brother you have condemned? They have lost the love of God out of their hearts; but they think they have a spirit of discernment; they think it is theirs to pronounce judgment; but they should repeat of their error, and turn away from sin. Peter asked of the Lord concerning John “Lord and what shall this man do? and Jesus answered, what is that to thee? follow thou me. We are to follow the example. A flood of light shines upon us and all jealousy should be put away, for jealousy is cruel as the grave. Purge out the old leaven; for a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump; let us have our hearts sanctified to God, let us look upon the light that abides for us in Jesus, let us remember how forbearing and patient He was with the erring children of men. We should he in a wretched state if the God of heaven were like one of us, treated us as we are inclined to treat ne another. Thank the Lord that his thoughts are not our thoughts, nor his ways our ways. He is full of compassion and love, long-suffering and abundant in tender mercy. If we have the love of Jesus, we shall love

WHAT THE LORD HAS DONE FOR ME.

-:‡:-:‡:-

Auburn, Ind.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — I will endeavor to write my testimony thins morning to the glory of God. In the first place I wish to tell you that I have this glorious salvation, that I am saved and sanctified and ready to become anything or nothing, for Jesus’ sake just now. Praise the Holy name of Jesus forever and ever! He is leading me out into the deep waters of His love. My daily prayer is, that I may be kept low down at His feet, ever learning of Him. I feel that I am the least of His children, but thanks be to God He has promised His grace is ever sufficient for us. I was in the sects for nine years, and lived in all the light I had. I must say that I had a bright experience at first. For as the Word of God says, I was a changed man, things I once loved I now hated, things I once hated I now loved. All went well with me for a short time. I did not read the Word of God for myself, but listened to my preacher and whatever he said, was gospel with me. He opened the doors of the church and I was admitted as one of the United Brethren. I cannot help but look back in my astonishment to see my ignorance as I groped along as one in the dark, for seven years; some times up and some times down. But the most of the time down. I was trying to serve two Masters at once. In fact I was taught that I could sin and repent each day. Well the 6th. chapter of Matt, and the 24th ver. will explain that to any honest soul.

On the 10th of Dec. 1887, I met with a misfortune that almost proved fatal to me, but I can see through it now clearly enough. God took this means to show me my condition. I kept my bed for 6 months was at the point of death quite often Three times the word went to Auburn that G. C. Lahnum was dead. I had my right mind all the time, so I began to examine myself to see whether I was prepared to meet my God; and right there on my bed is where I saw my ungodly condition, and the crookedness and ungodly actions of the sects or denominations. And then and there I promised my blessed Savior if He would spare my life and permit me to again regain health, I would serve Him in spirit and in truth. Up to that time I had six different physicians and they had all proved a failure; had given me up to die. So I just dismissed them all, and since that time I have not taken any medicine in my mouth. I only weighed about 80 lbs., and my usual weight is 185 lbs. I was a mere skeleton; had the dropsy in my limbs. Bull trusted God for my healing, and He did heal me then and there. From that very moment I began to improve. My limbs were swollen as full as the skin would permit. But 6 hrs. after I had taken God as my physician, all the swelling had left my limbs. My faith still clung to God, knowing that He is all and in all to those that trust Him. I still kept on improving and was soon able to go round the room on crutches, and kept on improving until I was fully recovered, or more than that, I enjoy better health to-day than I have for 20 years, for which I give God all the praise and glory.

Now comes something that I am a little ashamed of, but I must tell all to the glory of God. The truth of the matter is, I went back on my best friend after He had healed me and restored me to health. I went back on my vow that I made to God. I cannot use words to express my feelings; of all creatures I was the most miserable I felt condemned. All the consolation I could get, was from my U. B. preacher, and my brethren. They told me I was all right to go on as before etc. I tried to believe them, but when I would try to pray I could not, for I was guilty, and felt myself a sinner in the sight of God.

I remember once telling at one of our testimony meetings, that I had a few neighbors that professed to be sanctified: claimed Holiness. But I said I thanked God, that I was sanctified with the old kind of religion, the kind the U. B’s. have; and at the same time knowing I was telling an untruth, for I saw their crookedness and their ungodly deeds, and their blindness. If I would have told the real true sentiments of my heart at that time, I would have said: “I desire to be a saint.” But I would not have said that for any thing, for I could not say things bad enough about the saints. But I have long ago asked the saints everywhere to forgive me. I lived in this awful and wretched condition until the 18th, day of December 1889. When God for Christ’s sake forgave all my sins, and afterwards sanctified my nature. Oh I can never get through thanking and praising His Holy name while here on earth, and I expect to praise Him in heaven too.

God through His kind providence sent Bro. F. N. Jacobson here to preach His true Word in this neighborhood, and as he was a frail and weak little blind man, I listened to him, and took him home with me, and shall never forget the morning we talked on the subject of salvation and etc. To make short of it I got salvation right at my own home. Praise God for ever and ever! Oh I used to be full and runing over with prejudice against the saints. I worshipped my sect, but God be praised, I am a changed person now. I love the saints and they are welcome at my home. I thought those holiness preachers were going to tear down our church, but had I looked at the Word of God and read the 16th chapter and the 18 verse of St. Matthew, that would have convinced me at once if it was torn down it was not of God, for He says to Peter: “On this Rock (which is Christ.) I will bnild my Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” Oh it is sweet to trust God at all times. I ever expect to put my trust in the living Cod. My prayer is that He may keep me low down at His feet, ready to do His whole will at all times. I desire the prayers of the dear saints every where that I may ever prove true to God.

Your saved Bro.

NEWS FROM THE FIELD

Humble, Mo.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — May the grace of God our Father be with you all. Amen. When I was sanctified the dear Lord called me to preach the Word, but I hesitated to enter upon my mission, knowing the world in general was opposed to women preaching; but this did not release me from my work, and oh what a longing I had at heart to get out and work for my Father. The longer I delayed; the greater weight of immortal souls was rolled upon me and I became very unhappy, because I knew God’s will concerning me, and realized that God was willing to use me as a mouth to speak His Word. I prayed earnestly to our God to help me to preach the Word as it is in Christ Jesus. And the way was opened up and I was permitted to preach at Humble school house, one mile and a quarter from home and oh how the dear Lord blessed me in preaching His holy Truth. The way was then opened for regular meetings at a little town called Arthur. I preached several sermons at that place in the name of King Jesus: and the dear Lord furnished large attendance and good order, and wonderfully blessed me in telling the people of His love and mercy and in pointing them to the Lamb of God: “that taketh away the sin of the world.” The enemy of our souls began to get alarmed at the boldness which God had given me, and spirit’s power with which He used me, so he (the devil) began at once to lay a plan to over throw me; and persecution began to arise in my family, and they were laid on heavier than it seemed that I could bear. I read where the Lord promised to give us grace sufficient in every time of need. But desiring to live at peace, and have all the members of our family love me and treat me kindly I thought I would give up preaching a while and oh what sadness filled my heart, when I consented to this. Many times those words come to me; shall I serve God or man? I knew to refuse to do God’s will would be to lose my salvation, and to grieve the Holy Spirit. I was grieved at the situation in which I was placed and prayed without ceasing to God to help me do His holy will. It did seem to me at that time that the more I prayed the greater the trials were; that satan had attacked me with all his force, but I continually searched the scriptures; I read in Psalms 46:1. where it read thus. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” I knew God, was true to every promise and I believed He would drive away the dark clouds of sorrow, that the old dragon had rushed upon me. But while struggling along in this sadness it came very clear to my mind, that giving way had given the old enemy more boldness and he only made the stronger efforts to drag me back in the darkness of sin. O how miserable, how wretched! I was always desiring to do God’s will. I spent many sleepless nights and could scarcely eat. For four months I suffered thus, longing to do God’s will and yet making every effort to avoid displeasing my family; but while praying one day the sweet gentle voice of Jesus came in those words: “if you are not persecuted, if you have no trials you will not be like Jesus.” O what a relief those words were to me. I then and there promised the Lord I would suffer any thing for Him; and soon I was permitted to preach at Balltown, and oh how happy I was. And I will have meeting at that place as long as the Lord wills, I am standing where I can say: “Here I am Lord.” Happy are those who do the will of God.

Dear brother or sister if God has called you to any work, (and I believe He gives to all His children some kind of work) do it with all your might; and when satan rages take it to the Lord in prayer.

Dear sinner I beg you never to work against or oppose the work of the Lord, for if you should cause any one to backslide, you would be a soul murderer. Oh what a wonderful Father we have, to save from sin. Jesus is all and in all to me. Oh praise Him all ye saints! I know to-day that the blood of Jesus cleanses me from all sin, and the God of peace sanctifies me wholly. Pray for me that I may ever be found faithful serving the Lord.

Dear Saints of the Living God: — Our last report from Meriden Kan. stated that we were going from there to Huron of which place we found the little ones waiting our coining, hungry for the precious truth. The Lord was with us there in power. A son of dear Bro. and sister Haynes was saved, and others consecrated and were blessed, their prayers being answered in the salvation of their souls. We stayed but five days, having several urgent calls from the brethren at Wayland, Neb. at which place we labored with the Church to the edification and strengthening of the same. Dear Bro. Fox and family and Bro. Hoffer having gone to Texas; and sister Liza Hoffer to Oklahoma, and Bro. and sister Dailey to Vinland, Kansas, leaving the Church quite small in number, and yet strong in Jesus. One dear Bro. was gloriously saved, while in the field at work; we saw he was under deep conviction at different times. Bro. N. Dowers was baptized. The Lord enabled us to get a team to travel with. We feel this in the order of God. We have been in debt for some time, caused by sickness years ago, hoping to have paid this long ago, but have not been able, as yet; we have preached the whole council of God, except it be this: Give and it shall be given unto you again. Give as the Lord hath prospered you.

How beautiful are the feet of those who bring glad tidings. O how many might put feet under, yea give wings to the message bearers of good tidings, that the message of salvation, may be borne to those who have never heard it. May God bless the dear ones for Jesus’ sake, and help them to do all that God enjoins upon in His Word, that they may have eternal life. I beg forgivness where in I have been slack in pointing out to show your deuty on the line of giving. By the grace of God I shall preach the whole council of God to the best of my ability here after more definite on the line of glorifying God by your means. We left Neb. from Bro. J. W. Newkirk’s, April 3rd, arrived at Bro. Lindley’s Tuesday May the 6th, came here Thursday found sister McCormack holding meeting in the Carter school house felt led of the Lord to remain over Lord’s day. The Lord wonderfully blessed us by the way, and furnished us our lodging by night. Praise His holy name!

Your Bro. and sister.

Dear Saints: — I feel led to write a few lines to the readers of the Trumpet I praise God for salvation through the blood of Christ, and for the glorious light of the Gospel. I praise God for the Gospel Trumpet which we do know teaches sound doctrine. It is the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ and His disciples. It is said by the prophet Isa. 62:10; and Jer. 5:2. To lift up and set up a standard. In Isa. 35:8. And an highway shall be there and away, and it shall be called the way of holiness. The unclean shall not pass over it, but it shall be for those the way-faring men though fools shall not err therein.

Now we find the way that God laid down for His people to walk in, is a highway above the ways of the world. It is to be without sin. It is so plain that any honest understanding person need not err therein. Christ says: I am the way, the truth and the life. So Christ commands us to follow Him; and Christ commanded His apostles to observe and teach all things whatsoever I have commanded you. So Christ is the way to follow, and He says: If ye climb up any other way, the same is a thief and a robber. If we want to get to Heaven, let us search the scriptures for they testily of Him. Christ also suffered for us leaving us au example that we should follow His steps, who did no sin neither was guile found in His mouth. Who when He was reviled, reviled not again, when He suffered He threatened not. — 1 Pet. 2:23 He made Himself of no reputation and took upon Him the form of a servant and was made in the likeness of men; He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death even the death of the cross. — Phil. 2:28. He was rich, yet for our sakes He became poor that through His poverty we might be made rich. — 2 Cor, 8:9. Praise the Lord! Ha went about doing good, preaching to the poor, healing the sick, making the lame to walk and the blind to see, etc. He done the will of the Father; He taught and lived a holy life. Rebuked sin. He instituted the ordinances of baptism, the Lord’s supper, and feet washing in example and by precept; and many more things are recorded in the scripture that we are commanded to follow Him in.

While He was in the world, He was the light of the world and said: He that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. Praise the Lord! May each person that is trying to live so that they may get to Heaven when they die, become pure as He is pure through the Blood of Christ, and then follow and teach all things that Christ taught and done, and there will be one faith, and one Lord.

Your Bro. in Christ, saved and sanctified.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — The Lord bless you abundantly for Jesus sake, Amen!

I feel led to write to the Gospel Trumpet to witness for Jesus. I can say that I am fully saved and trusting all with my blessed Savior who hath redeemed me with His own precious blood, and brought me out of darkness into His own marvelous light, and hath established my goings and put a new rong in my mouth even praises to my God. O! I feel that it is so blessed to be all given up to the will of the Lord, knowing that whatsoever He does is for our eternal good. I love to feast on the blessed Word of God; It is meat and drink for my soul. O! I do so thank and praise the Lord for opening my understanding so that I can understand His blessed Word, and that He taught me how to trust and obey Him. I love to read the Gospel Trumpet, and have through it received much light, strength, and encouragement, for winch I praise the Lord: for we are all baptized by one Spirit into the one body, and have been made to drink into one Spirit and have fellowship with all saints of God. Praise the name of the Lord forever more! Amen! Pray for us.

Dear Saints: — I praise the Lord for salvation. I am on the straight Bible line and can take all the Word of God. I am 16 years old. I am standing on the Solid Rock Christ Jesus, all mists have cleared away. I was buried in baptism a short time ago. O what a blessed thing to follow the Lord aright.

Your sister saved and sanctified wholly.

Dear Saints: — I feel that it is to the glory of God for me to testify to His goodness. Nearly a year ago we heard the call, “come out of her my people, be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers.” And we heeded the call, husband and I both consecrated all to the Lord, and asked Him to sanctify us wholly. O I do praise God that He ever sent some of His ministers here to preach the Gospel in its purity. I had belonged to the M. E. sect almost 20 years. That is a long time to be in bondage. No one knows the bondage of babylon but those who have been in bondage. O praise the Lord! How willing I was lo give up all, though to a great extent the enemy had overcome me with pride and fashion, but praise the Lord I was willing to submit to His will. He heard my prayers and answered, and through the atoning blood He washed me and cleansed me from all sin and set me free. I earnestly pray God to send some Holy Ghost minister this way to preach the Gospel in its purity, and build up a Church to Himself in the beauty of holiness, without, spot or wrinkle, but pure as He is pure, for we know without holiness none shall see God. Dear saints, do not think that you can be called out of babylon and then attend their meetings continually and keep salvation. I am all sold out, consecrated entirely to God, willing to be anything for Jesus! Your sister sanctified by the everlasting covenant.

Dear Brethren: — I feel it a duty I owe to God to write my testimony to the Trumpet. I can say to the glory of God that I am saved and sitting at the feet of Jesus enjoying a full salvation from all sin; sanctified wholly made white and tried. Glory be to God forever, for this blessed evening light that enables us to discern the pure Church of Christ that shall, will, and is to be without spot or wrinkle. The Lord showed me this winter, when I was laying on the bed of affliction that He was this pure Church, and every soul that did not believe the truth, and have every stain that sin hath made washed away, in His allcleansing blood, the spots and wrinkles too, that not one can enter Heaven that does not measure up to the Bible standard of freedom from all sin, and live holy sanctified lives, here in this present life. Ignorance of this solemn truth will not excuse anyone, for there is none so blind, as those that will not see, and turn their ears away that they may not hear. Lord pity the poor sin caged mortals and open their eyes to see the true Church is my prayer. I do praise the Lord I am saved and walking in the light as He is in the light.

Your sister in Christ.

Dear Saints: — I am praising God this morning for salvation. Oh I do praise His holy name for His tender mercies, and for setting my soul free from the bondage of the evil one, and for leading me into this blessed evening light. Bless the Lord! I am free from sect babylon. Oh praise the Lord! I have never heard the straight Word preached. Oh that it might be the will of the Lord to send some Holy Ghost minister here; I think there would be much good done, in the name of our God. There are but three of us here professing holiness; Myself, my son, and one dear sister in the Lord. We commenced prayer- meeting one week ago, and the Lord enabled me to present my body a living sacrifice, and He sanctified me and cleansed me from all sin. Glory to God, for saving a wretch like me. Oh I do thank God for a saviour that saves us all the time. Bless the Lord! I feel His love in my heart all the time.

Your saved sister.

Dear Ones in Jesus: — I am kept by the power of God through faith ready to be revealed in these last times. I am a soldier for Jesus and have no carnal weapons, but spiritual ones. I was ordered not to come to Deshler Ohio, under the penalty of death.

I went under the orders of God, and I must say to the glory of God that I never had a more glorious time in my life. I went and returned safely. I love Jesus and Jesus loves me. I have promised Him all of my moments, and He is wonderfully blessing my labors. We shall reap if we faint not.

Dearly Beloved Saints: — May the blessed Lord bestow upon all, His richest blessings. Amen.

As I profess to be a follower of our Lord Jesus Christ, I must follow Him in all things. Oh I do love to obey that blessed Jesus who gave His life a ransom that we might live; who was without sin, neither was guile found in His mouth; that wonderful counsellor. The Word tells us in James 1:5, if any of you lack wisdom let him ask of God who giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him. So He is the saints counsellor, therefore I call Him my counsellor Jesus saves me just now. I have that peace within me telling me that I am born of God, adopted into the family of God, and become a joint heir with Jesus Christ. How pleasant it is to belong to such a family. How glad I am that God has cast my lot here in Michigan where He has a few who dare stand up for the truth. Oh bless God for the freedom of speech when backed up by the Holy Ghost. During the winter I was taken sick, and on Sabbath morning the Lord showed me His will was for me to send for sister Gould, that I may obey His Word. She came and we had prayer, then she obeyed God in laying on of hands, and the Lord healed me at once. And filled my soul with praises to Him for doing the word. The next Tuesday I exposed myself, causing a relapse which brought me down so low that for two days I thought the Lord would take me home but I was perfectly reconciled to go. But the good Lord saw fit to raise me up again. The Lord sent Bro. Fales, Bro. Cox, and Harn in to see me, and oh how that sweet love of Jesus flowed into our hearts as it must do with the children of God. Then the saints appointed prayer-meeting at our house, and how wonderful that same blessed Jesus did manifest Himself to us. It seemed like real waves of the Spirit of God came down one after another right from the throne of God. Well dear readers, I want to tell you that that same blessed Jesus is with the Church near Merrill, Mich., yet, and we have His presence with us in our families at home.

Your Bro. in the body of Christ, which is the Church of the living God.

Dear Saints: — I feel led of the Lord to write my testimony. Praise God for the way He is leading me. I am still saved and sanctified and kept by the mighty power of God, up to this present moment free from all sin. Praise God for salvation that keeps us free at all times, as long as we trust Him. I praise God for bringing me out into this marvelous light. I feel that I am growing stronger and more determined to live for the Lord each day of my life, and have the sweet peace and joy in my soul continually. I praise God for all the trials and persecutions of this life for the Word says: Blessed are ye when men shall revile you and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for my sake. Rejoice and be exceeding glad for great is your reward in en for so persecuted they the prophets Heav which were before you. I ask an interest in the prayers of the dear saints, that I may ever be faithful to God, and be kept low and humble at His feet. Your sister saved by the blood of Jesus, kept by the power of God.

Dear Brethren: — I feel led of the Lord to write my testimony. Praise God for a salvation that cleanses from all sin. To-night I am all on the altar, both justified and sanctified by a second work of grace. I wandered in sectarianism for fifteen years. I was converted, and was honest in my heart, but when I saw the light, it convined me that it was the Word of God. Last fall when Bro. Schell and others held a grove-meeting in this place, my wife was saved, but I rejected the Word and went into outer darkness. Dear readers let me warn you never to reject the Word of God. I got so low that I ordered God’s children out of God’s house; and the devil worked me up to a terrible rage, and I threatened my wife with many threats, but praise God, she took me to the Lord in prayer, and after fasting for three days God showed me that I was a terrible wicked sinner, and if I did not repent, hell was my doom. I went with my wife to the holiness prayer meeting, and I asked them to forgive me for the way I had used them, and to pray that God would forgive me. I tried to give myself up, but could get no relief. For two months I struggled and prayed. I thought I did give up all. I thought I could get salvation and hang to my idols. But praise the Lord they all had to go. When God’s ministers came and preached the Word I saw the line between saints and sinners, I was willing to let all go, and on the 8th of Jan. I was justified and my peace was made with God; and on the 9th I came to the altar for the cleansing He has taken me from all my idols, and washed me in His blood, and I am whiter than snow, and am free from sect babylon and from all division. I was a slave to tobacco for thirty years. Praise God, the appetite is gone never to return. He is my leader, and none other will I know. I am free from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, and dead to this world and its pleasure. Praise God! I am just ready to do or be anything that will give glory to God Pray for me that I may do the will of God.

Dear Saints: — I praise the Lord for salvation full and free. I joined the Baptist sect about 12 years ago. About a year ago the Lord saved me, and I was no more a Baptist but a child of God. I became confused with false doctrine, but last September the Lord sanctified my soul, and praise the Lord, I am free from all sin, and all sects, and babylon confusion, and doctrines of devils. Pray for me.

Dear Saints: — It has been some time since I have testified through the Trumpet. And this morning I do feel it would be to the glory of God, and for the good of my soul, that I tell what He has done for me since I saw you, or many of you at least. For He has done a wonderful work in my soul, I had given place to the devil and got into darkness and lost my experience. O what awful darkness it was! But thanks to God; I was permitted to attend the meeting in Paulding Co., and the saints prayed God to show me my worst condition, and He did; but God showed them, first, they having the discerning of spirits saw that I was possessed with devils, and a host of them too. O what a terrible condition I was in. The dear saints labored with me several hours, for they did not want the devil to get the victory. While they were being cast out I grew sick, but the saints said it was a trick of the devil. The devil wanted them to take their hand off, but thanks be to God, by prayer and laying on of hands in the name of the Holy Child Jesus they were all cast out. I was sorry, very sorry, and ashamed to bring such a reproach on the cause of Christ, but God through His mercy did save me, I was restored to the arms of Jesus once more, O blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, I do love thee! You that know the worth of prayer please pray for me, that I prove firm to the truth, Amen; the Lord has been so wonderfully good to me in saving my soul, and healing me of bodily afflictions several times for which I do praise Him, and give Him the glory, praise His name. I had the scald head, very bad for a number of years but two years ago the 22nd of this month I was healed of the Lord. Praise His Holy name for ever and ever. O praise God for salvation that saves from all sin; two years ago next August while at the Jerry City C. M. I was enabled of the Lord to put away my crutch and walk without it O, I am so glad I am saved, and resting in the arms of Jesus, having sweet peace in my soul once more, Glory be to Jesus! I have a richer and deeper experience, than ever before, am firmer on the Solid Rock Christ Jesus. O I am so glad for a pure heart, for a clean place for Jesus to dwell in. Praise His holy name! How I would like to meet with the dear saints oftener. If it is the Lord’s will, and the way is opened I shall try and be at the Bangor, C. M. Your sister all on the altar. Pray for me that I continue at the feet of our blessed Savior. Amen! Saved and sanctified.

Dear Saints: — Having read the testimonies in a copy of the Trumpet of which I received from Bro. J. Cole, I will write a few lines and try to glorify my Redeemer.

I am rejoicing this morning in a Savior’s love. We are taught to “resist the devil and he will flee from us,” and I praise God this morning for complete victory over the works of satan. Praise His holy name forever! I am saved and sanctfied and kept by the mighty power of God. Praise God forever! I am so glad that Ho saw fit to bring me down at His feet and save me from all sin. Praise His holy name.

Dear Saints: — I praise God to day for salvation, and the comforter that abides with us. Although we have been led through deep affliction in the past year we can truly say, the Lord is our helper. How often in our trying hours have we been comforted with those precious words, that fell from our Saviors lips: “Let not your heart be troubled” etc. Oh it is glorious to live under the sweet influence of the Holy Spirit, who guides ns into all truth, and gives us a humble submission to all the will of God. Praise the Lord forever and ever! My soul rejoices in my Savior who has redeemed and washed me in His own blood. On the 24th, of March, husband and I started for a short visit with our Bro. and sister, Jno. and Lizzie Livingston. They live in Washington county, Kan. About 4 miles from Mahaska, a station on the Chicago, Burlington and Rock Island road. Our visit was very pleasant and enjoyable. Found some precious souls hungry for the truth. Some have already thrown off the shackles that were put upon them by human organizations, others see the awful condition of the sects, but have not heard the evening light preached. May God send some of His holy anointed ones to that place in the near future, for truly the field is already white to harvest. May the Lord raise up laborers. As I was looking over the Gospel Trumpet, of last number and saw the announcement of the meetings for the summer campaign, my heart went out to God for His blessing upon the work. Oh may God through the Holy Ghost qualify every heart and put His Spirit upon every one. that whether they labor at home or abroad they may know their commission is from God. Oh may God save His people from the awful blight that follow deceitful workers. Oh dear saints, think of the great responsibility that we assume when we take up the Word of God to teach it to our fellow men. Surely if we have any other motive than the honor and glory of God, we must give a sad account of our stewardship. Oh! may God give each of His workers a re-anointing, and keep the fire burning on the altar of every heart, is my prayer.

Pray for us that we may keep low down at the feet of Jesus. Your sister saved in Jesus.

Nancy Byers.

those for whom He has died. All of us love those whom we cannot help loving but not all of us love those who are without lovable traits. Yet the divine call to us to love, is a call to love those who need our love, rather than those who deserve it. The command to love our neighbor, is a command to love him who is our neighbor, whether we want him to be so or not. A man must not choose his neighbor, he must take the neighbor that God sends him. Yet many a man prides himself on his Christian love toward those whom he deems lovely especially if he thinks they love him. It is in rebuke of this standard of loving, and in commendation of a better one, that Jesus says: “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. * * * If you love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?” and the standard that Jesus holds up is a standard for all of us.

HOLY SPIRIT.

—:o:—

THE promise that the Savior gave was that the comforter should teach us all things. Jno. 14:26. The Psalmist often prayed: “Teach me O Lord the way of thy statutes, and I shall keep it unto the end. Give me understanding and I shall keep thy law, yea I shall observe it with my whole heart. Make me to go in the path of thy commandments, for therein do I delight.” Psa 119:33. 36. As the Lord was willing to give us the Holy Spirit and guide us into all truth, so He is willing to teach us all things, for we cannot understand the ways of the Lord unless we are taught of God. The deep mysteries of the Bible cannot be understood; things that are hidden cannot be brought to light, glorious truths cannot be revealed to us except the Holy Spirit reveals and teaches them, The Psalmist was so anxious that the Lord should teach him, that in the 119 Psalm he prays no less than eight times “teach me,’’ besides other expressions pleading directly or indirectly to he taught of God; with promises to obey implicitly. In order to be taught we must be teachable’ the Lord cannot teach any one who will not receive it; for instead of a submissive humble spirit ready to receive instruction whereby they might be profited, a bigoted, harsh dictoral spirit exist which rejects the Lord and His teachings. Think of a child placed under an instructor presuming to teach or finding fault with the principles of the language taught him, desiring to shape them to suit himself; the instructor would soon leave such a willful student as that to himself or have his own way in the teaching. The Holy Spirit must have his own way in order to impart to us needed wisdom. The apostle James says if any of you lack wisdom let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not and it shall be given him. Jas. 1:5. The Holy Spirit is not going to compel any one to receive the teaching, for observe that the apostle says “LET” implying a complete willingness on the part of the receiver, an abandonment of our own wills in the matter, and joyfully permit and receive the blessed teaching of the H0ly Spirit. This teaching must be received with meekness and recognized solely as from the Lord, otherwise the Lord will cease to teach us and leave us to our own understandiing. Pro. 3:5. Jer. 9:23. 21. God is the interpreter of His own Word and has promised to teach us all things, and bring all things to our remembrance whatsoever He has said. Dear soul we need not be blind in regard to what Jesus has said. We need not be unhappy by disobedience arising from ignorance of the divine Truth of God. For the Holy Ghost will leach us. Many who claim to be wholly sanctified and have had wonderful light from God are walking in darkness and willfully wresting the Word of God: because they cease to be taught and leaned to their own understanding, and instead of teaching God’s Word in its purity; and making it plain that all may understand, and obey, and receive the knowledge of the Truth in their souls and be saved, they teach it in blindness, rejecting a part and accepting only such passages as suits them, blinding the eyes of those that follow them, endangering their souls to the torments of hell. Beloved let the Holy Ghost teach you, obey implicitly as you are taught, and great will be thy reward.

Dear Saints: — I do thank God this evening that He has reclaimed another backslider. And that I am standing on the solid rock, Christ Jesus. I remained in a backslidden state for a long time. Had no peace, no enjoyment tried staying away from meeting, but could not get away from God: He was calling me where ever I went. I praise God that I have made a complete surrender of every thing, I am nothing of self any more. My determination is, to stand for God and do His will. Your sister saved, sanctified and satisfied.

To All The Dear Saints Greeting. I praise the Lord for the glorious privilege of testifying, to a complete salvation, and victory in my soul over all the powers of darkness. praise God, for this great deliverance from the delusive snares of the devil, which kept me captive, until God in His great mercy let the true light shine in my soul; and gave me that perfect love which casteth out fear, and also gave me a willing mind to keep all of His commandments. He that saith I know Him and keepeth not His commandments is a liar and the Truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth His Word in him verily is the love of God perfected; hereby know we that we are in Him. — 1 Jno. 2:4. 5. Dear readers beware of false doctrine and false teachers which are going all about through this world, teaching doctrines of devils forbidding to observe the holy ordinances, which Christ ordained and commanded us to keep. But these things are not surprising to us, because it was the first sermon which the devil preached to Eve when she was doing the will of God, in the garden of Eden, not humble themselves to do what God wants them to do, but eat in disobedience to him, and so the devil has chosen a great many in this work of darkness. Dear ones we warn and exhort you in the name of Jesus, to turn away from all these ungodly ones who will not humble thenselves to do the perfect will of God. You find their description and future destiny in 2 Peter 3 chap, and Jude. May the Lord bless all the dear saints every where and keep them all unspotted from the world. Your sister in the love of Christ saved, and sanctified by a second work of grace.

Dear Saints — May God bless and keep you all in the unity of the Spirit, and trusting Him in all things. I am sweetly saved in Jesus this morning, perfectly resigned to His holy will ready to do His bidding in all things. When I was very young I wanted to be a christian and joined the M. E. sect for I thought that was the way to begin. I knew I must be born again, and went to the altar many times but was never satisfied till I was about 24, then the Lord pardoned all my sins and did so wonderfully bless me, I could scarcely beleive that I ever could grieve or that I ever should suffer again; but I soon found, though I never doubted my conversion, that I was not satisfied, but I did not know what I wanted. About 5 years ago I heard the doctrine of holiness for the first time, and praise the Lord! He gave me a strong desire for it, and I did not rest until I was sure not only that my sins were forgiven but my heart was made pure in the blood of Jesus and my nature sanctified. oh praise the Lord! now I am satisfied though trials and temtations rage around nothing disturbs the sweet river of peace flowing deep in my soul. Pray that I may ever be true to Jesus. Your sister in Christ

This afternoon finds me saved through the redeeming blood of Jesus, not through any thing that I have done but through the love of God: in sending His beloved Son into this sinful world to suffer so much and at last gave His own life that we might be saved. Whosoever will come, may come. O what a blessed privilege He gives to all and so few will come to Him and be saved.

O praise His precious name! I am so glad that I came to Him, and my coming was not in vain, for He has taken away the sin and stains from my heart and I am a new creature in Christ. glory to Jesus! dear ones that are laboring in the field, God bless and lead you by His Holy Spirit that souls may be saved from the burning pit. time is short. Your sister saved and sanctified.

Dear Brethren: — I realize a sacred nearness and unity of Spirit with the living members of our dear Lord’s body, and rejoice that the truth is being revealed in its true light. I also rejoice that the time is so fast approaching when all who love the appearing of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, will be gathered home, to go out no more forever.

When I was converted, God gave me a Bible religion, which was unsectarian; since then, (about 20 years ago) I have passed through about 6 different denominations, and am now bearing the Master’s reproach, “without the camp” being considered crazy by some, because I dare not become entangled again by what is to me, a spiritual yoke of bondage, the formal Church. I enjoy reading the Gospel Trumpet very much; it came to me as a friend in need. Pray for me and with me for the people of this place. I long to see a Banner of Holiness raised in the name of the Lord, and held by unflinching hands, regardless of consequences. Our God the Father, can and will overrule all opposing influences that are brought to bear, against His dear Son. May His will be done. Amen.

Dear Trumpet Readers: — I feel led of the Lord to write my testimony. I am completely saved in Jesus just now. Oh how I do praise His holy name for taking my feet from the mire and clay and placing them on the Solid Rock of ages. Less than a year ago the Lord saved me from all my woes and wretchedness. He says that we shall be made white and tried, but I failed to stand the trial. But glory to His name! He has saved me from all my backslidings and I stand fully redeemed in Jesus. I am determined to serve the Lord the remainder of my days. For what would it profit a man if he would gain the whole world and lose his soul.

“I’ve tried the road of sin and found
Its prospects all deceive,
I’ve proved the Lord and joys abound
More than I could believe.

Pray for me that I may ever be found doing the Lord’s will.

Dearl Saints: — We are saved just now, from all sin, and sanctified by the Holy Spirit through the blood of Jesus. The dear saints at this place are alive for God. Oh how my soul rejoices to see the wonderful power of God manifested in His children. Bro. and sister Simmons are filled with the power of God, standing on the Solid Rock, ready to obey God in all things. The glory of God shining in their countenance, and manifested in their lives. And dear Bro. and sister Powers, who have seen the frosts of many winters, seems to feel about as young as they did forty or fifty years ago, being filled with the power of God, and truly their last days seems to be their best days. Pray for us at this place, that God may keep His little ones standing firm.

Dear Saints: — I feel lead of the spirit to write my testimony. I do praise the Lord for the all cleansing blood of Jesus that cleanses me from all sin, and enables me to walk in Humility and the fear of the Lord every day. I am rooted and built up in Him and stablished in the faith; praying that God may establish all His children; praise the Lord, so when we read His word we may understand it. It says there shall be no divisions among you. Those are commandments, and the Word teaches it is a sin not to keep His commandments, and he that sinneth is of the devil. Praise the Lord! I am dead to the world, and all babylon allurements, festivals, picnics, icecream parties, christmas trees, fashions of the world and all isms. What does a dead man care about the allurements of the world? I am free. Whom the Son maketh free is free indeed. Glory to God. Amen!

Dear Trumpet Readers: — May God bless you one and all who may read this, is the prayer of one who has just recently been converted to Jesus, saved by the blood of the Lamb, which alone can atone for all our sins, and sanctifies us wholly through the truth. Praise His holy name! Blessed be His name forever and ever. Jesus is all in all to me now. No more sectarianism for me; the Spirit has lead me out, thank God! Oh what happiness and joy I have in my heart, in knowing that Jesus has saved me from sin, and my heart is so full of the love of Jesus that I constantly have a desire to go out in His vineyard and labor to try and point some of these lost souls to Jesus, and it is my heart felt desire to go out in the highways and hedges and preach the Word; but owing to the present circumstances under which I am placed, cannot do it as I am tied, I am sorry to state, to the U. S. Army. I have left it all with Jesus. He is able to deliver me. Dear brethren pray for me that I may be delivered, and that I may keep humble and obedient to the will of God who I so long to see; all honor and glory to His name. Be true to God, endure everything with longsuffering and reap a rich reward in the end, which is not far off. Jesus is coming soon. I want to meet you all in heaven. Hold fast to Jesus; be lost in His love. Watch am pray lest ye enter into temptation. my love to you all in Christ Jesus. Amen!

Yours in Christ’s love.

Dear Saints: — May the dear Lord bless you with His richest blessings. I have felt led to write my testimony for some time, but have put it off till now. Jesus said: to do with our might what our hands find to do; although it is little I can do, I have been busy. I am so thankful that I am still saved in Jesus and ready to do His will in all things. It is my whole desire to do every thing to glorify my heavenly Father. Although I cannot meet with God’s little ones very often; I have a friend that never leaves nor forsakes me, and is always ready to help in time of need and makes all my heavy burdens light. Some times when I have trials to content with, I often think what would I do if it was not for my blessed Savior, to tell all my troubles too, and He is always so good and helps me out. Praise His name forever. O it is so sweet to follow Jesus, and just let Him lead us where He will. Although I do not have as wonderful experience as some, I have perfect peace in my soul that the world cannot give neither take away. Dear saints pray for me that I may do the whole will of God in all things, for that is my whole desire.

Dear Brethren in Christ: — May the Lord bless you all abundantly to do His will in all things according to His richest glory. I praise the dear Lord this morning for complete salvation and victory in my soul over all the works of the devil. Halleujah to the Lamb forever and ever! We would love to have, who ever the Lord may lead to come here and hold meeting as long as the Lord wills. We are praying that the dear Lord may wonderfully 0pen the eyes of the people here to their real condition, for the devil is working hard to overthrow the work of the Lord in having some papers printed, and sent out to catch unstable souls, they are fighting sects and the Saviour’s commandments at the same time. May the dear Lord pity the poor deceived souls, for Jesus sake, is my prayer, and may they see that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word of God. — Luke 4:4. We are fully saved in Jesus, and kept by His mighty power sanctified wholly just now to do the whole will of God in all things. Hallenjah!

Your Bro. settled on the Word of God, ready to do or stay.

Dear Brethren: — I so seldom see letters from Ill. it seems that this state is skipped, and the glorious work is rolling westward. Well, may the Lord roll the chariot along; there is a good deal of sectarian popular holiness here. A form of holiness without the power. I have been watching, waiting, praying, that the Lord would open the way for a free meeting some where in these parts. Oh how I wander around the cold icebergs of babylon, “crying for the dear Lord to bring again Zion, when the watchman shall see eye to eye. I have taken the Trumpet from the first. I love it next to the Bible.

Dear Brethren — It is with much pleasure, that I write unto you again. I now praise the Lord, that I have full and free salvation, that cleanses me from all sin, and that keeps me wholly saved both night and day. I had lived some over a month in a justified state, but during this time, had received much light on sanctification; and the more I read about it in the Bible and the Trumpet and heard of it by the few saints that live in our midst, the more determined I became to receive it, and my hungering for sanctification became so great that I could not withstand it any longer. As my time was not my own, being in the school-room I could not easily leave but had one of my scholars take charge one Friday afternoon. I walked to Thompson a distance of 11 miles and from there went to Albany and found Bro. J. A. Byers. Late that evening after a talk on justification with satisfaction we went on to sanctification. But praise the Lord! I then became so eager and obedient that it did not take me long to pay the price and receive the Holy Ghost power. That was a wonderful day to me. Pray for me that I may always be humble at the foot of the cross. Your Bro. saved and sanctified.

Dear Saints: — I feel led to write through the Trumpet what the Lord has done for me. He has wonderfully blessed me and taken my appetite for tea and coffee which I used to think was no harm. Glory be to God for His goodness and mercy toward His children. Although I have great trials, but I see in the blessed Bible the promises or our dear Lord, that He wil sanctify me wholly if I do my part. I do thank God for His blessed peace that He has given me, and for the love of God I do enjoy. I love to read the Bible and the Trumpet. Glory be to God forever I am bound by the strength of God to work on until He sanctifies me wholly. Pray for me. Your sister in Christ.

A CORRECTION.

Decatur, Miss. May 15, 1890.

Dear Brethren of the Gospel Trumpet: — May God bless you in the faith, and all your labors in the Lord and keep you in the good work to which the Lord has called you. I wish to make a little correction in the piece I wrote April 4th, 1890. Namely, a call for the Gospel. In the issue of May 1st ,you will find it says: “but they seem to be all money makers, sectarian leaders, selfwilled and so on.” The mistake is in the word all. We have some holiness preachers down here in the south, that are good saved men, working for the Lord, with power of the Spirit. We mean that all sectarian leaders are the men spoken of. Since the above was written, we have had several calls, or answers. Bless the Lord! May God bless the truth, and help us to work together in unity of the Holy Spirit. Glory to Jesus Pray for us brethren.

Your humble Bro. in Jesus saved and sanctified.

W. Rufus, McMullen.
