SANCTIFIED.

_____

I know that I am saved by grace,
God’s spirit dwells’ within:
He keeps me in a holy place,
All freed from every sin.

I walk with Him through all the day.
At night have perfect peace.
He hearkens well to all I say
And does my love increase.

The terrors of this life are past.
My future gleams so bright;
By faith in God I hold all fast
My “mansion” looms in sight.

The glories of that blest abode
No thought of man can tell;
But ’tis the dwelling place of God,
And there I hope in dwell.

John F. Starcher.

__________

THE LORD IS HASTENING.

_____

“A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I the Lord will hasten it in his time.” Isa. 60:22.

THE above text speaks of a time that God is going to hasten something. Now the question is, what is it? It is certainly this great and last reformation of Got! Almighty that began with Jesus Christ over eighteen hundred years ago, and was confirmed through the preaching of the apostles and practised by the followers of Christ until the falling away. 2 Thess. 2 chapter, which includes the dark reign of twelve hundred and sixty years of Catholicism, also three hundred and fifty years of Protestantism, but thanks be to God, was brought hack again by the return of Zion. Isa. 52:8, which took place at the cleansing of the sanctuary on or near the year 1880. Dan. 8:14, by the bringing in of the evening light. Zech. 14:8.

And now already several years of the evening light have elapsed, and God declares for the elect’s sake it shall be shortened. He does not say how much he will shorten it, neither do we by setting a day or hour, lest we should be tried by the word of God and found liars, with others who have done so. According to Matt. 24:30. But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. That is something God keeps to himself. But Jesus tells us of signs that when we see them we may know the time is near, even at the door. And we know the signs are coming to pass. Therefore we know this is the Lord’s time to hasten. Now Jesus in speaking of the signs of his coming says. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness to all nations; then shall the end come. Matt. 24:14. We understand that it is just to be a witness against them, also salvation to those who accept it. But we find they who accept this gospel of the kingdom are few compared to the great mass of people. This gospel is the gospel he preached himself, and as Jesus Christ is the same yesterday to day and forever, the price remains the same. Except a man forsake all he hath he cannot he my disciple. That will leave no place or time for the pleasure of this world, and much more now as the time is short; and God says he will hasten it in his time. According to the above scripture the question is. How is he going to do it? Namely, by sending his messengers flying through the midst of heaven, with the everlasting gospel to preach to those that dwell upon the earth. And who is God sending in this reformation? It is not those of excellency of speech or man’s wisdom. For if that were the qualification, then the gospel has been preached to all nations. But let us see Isa. 6:6, 7: Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar. And he laid it upon my mouth and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips, and thy iniquity is taken away and thy sin purged. We understand the altar spoken of here was typical of Christ, and the live coal is also typical of the Holy Ghost and fire, which is the baptism promised the disciples. Matt. 3:11. I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear, he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire. And it is evident it is as necessary now of preach this gospel of the kingdom as it ever was. And if ever God needed fire brands to hasten hither and thither, it is at the present time. For all the prophesies of God’s word tell us that this is his time to hasten. Many say they are willing to go when God sends them, which is all right and proper.

Now just let us examine Isaiah’s qualification, calling and sending. It is evident that God called and qualified him for his work. Yet he did not tell or even ask him to go directly, but just said so he heard him, “Whom shall I send? and who will go for us?” Now this teaches us the lesson that God does not force or draft any one to go. Though he is qualifying many as he did Isaiah, yet he wants a freewill offering on their part, for just as quick as Isaiah said, “Here am I, Lord, send me,” he said, go. If God had more Isaiahs and fewer Jonahs at the present time, he would no doubt soon hasten this gospel of the kingdom to all nations. I do in all love and meekness of Jesus admonish all the Jonahs, and those who are heaping up riches for the last days, to be careful. God has not got time to bother with you as he did with one of old, for the time is too short. We hear a good many testimonies to fire and stake salvation, especially among some of the preachers. But the fact is they are driving their own stakes, and they so close at home that the fire doesn’t spread much. The Lord help such to pull up their stakes and renew their doubtful consecration, and let God hasten his reformation. For this gospel of the kingdom must be preached to all nations after the cleansing of the sanctuary.

We just call your attention to one instance out of many. Just a few days ago a man came into our meeting, and after preaching was asked the question how he liked the preaching. He said it was just what he was looking for. The words so stirred my soul with holy zeal that I felt led of the Lord to write on this subject. Remember this was a sea faring man who never had heard the evening light. But it was just what he was looking for. We pray God these words may ring in every heart of God’s fire-brands that he has qualified to go to the uttermost parts of the earth. Brethren, why is it that the people are looking for this gospel of the kingdom? Now this is very plain to those who are awake to the signs of the times, simply from the fact that the Lord’s time has come and he is preparing the hearts of the remnant for the evening light. And they are looking for something, and how shall they know what it is without a preacher. The Lord send out his preachers. We know there are many wives, oxen and lands, but God certainly is preparing his messengers to go as he did Isaiah. And when they say, Here am I, Lord, send me, remember that God is thundering out of his holy habitation by the signs of the times. Whom can I send, and who will go? Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power. Psa. 110:3. How many poor souls there are scattered abroad over all the face of the earth who are willing to accept the light when explained with the simplicity of the gospel, just waiting for the watchman to say, Arise ye, let us go up to Zion unto the Lord our God. Jer. 31:6. See Heb. 12:22, 23. And again, I will satiate the souls of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the Lord. Jer. 31:14. How true the evening light does satisfy every longing of our souls; and so it follows if people are not satisfied it is because they have not God’s goodness. And now the commission not only covers the ground to go ye into all the world, but to preach the gospel to every creature also. And in order to do that we must have good staying qualities too. And now may the Lord richly bless all of us as saints, as ministers and workers, and use us to the uttermost capacity of our understanding for the salvation of souls, for Jesus’ sake. Let all the saints pray much for the work here. Amen. Yours in the faith,

J. W. Daugherty.

__________

ONENESS.

_____

JESUS prayed for oneness of believers, “That they all may be one, as thou, Father, art in me and I in thee, that they also may be one in us, that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.” Now if God’s people are one as the Father and Son are one, there will be no divisions, as there is no division between the Father and Son. John 17:21. Let us see what Bro. Paul says about oneness in 1 Cor. 1:10. “Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord, that ye all speak the same things; and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgement.” If we are like Paul says, there is no chance for division. One mind on spiritual things. Paul says about them that cause division, in Rom. 16:17, “Now I beseech you brethren, mark them which cause division and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned, and avoid them. What doctrine had they learned? The doctrine of Christ. 2 John 9, Whosoever transgresseth and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed; for he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. Now this means, not receive him as a minister of the gospel, or bid him God speed as a minister of the gospel. What Paul says in Phil. 1:27, only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind, striving together for the faith of the gospel.

Praise the good Lord for the Bible to guide us, and the Spirit also which guides us into all truth. Let us obey its teachings and strive together for the faith of the gospel. Let us see what Paul says in 1 Cor. 3:9, For we are laborers together with God. Ye are God’s building. Eph. 2:20, says, and are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone, in whom all the building fitly framed together, groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord; in whom ye also are budded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. Let us see what God’s habitation, or temple is. We will look in 1 Cor. 3:16. Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? But he that is joined unto the Lord is one Spirit. 1 Cor. 6:17. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. Rom. 8:9. Praise the Lord for oneness! Behold how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity. Psalm 133. God wants his saints to assemble together. See Heb. 10:25. Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as we see the day approaching. Let us see what name to gather in. Matt. 18:20. Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. Acts 4:12. — Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. Let us see who saves us, then we will know what name to gather in. Matt. 1:21. — Thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins. So if we gather in Jesus’ name he will be in the midst. So if we want Christ in our midst we will have to gather in his name.

Can we be sanctified and be divided? Let us see what the Bible says in Heb. 2:11, – “For both he that sanctifieth, and they who are sanctified are all of one, for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren.” Well let us see who sanctifies. Heb. 13:12. — Wherefore, Jesus, also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.” May God bless the people, is my prayer, and help them to see that we must be one with God and one another. Amen.

WHAT THE SECTS TEACH.

_____

They say a man cannot live in this world and not sin, and use the seventh chapter of Romans to try to prove it. They claim that Paul was speaking of his present experience when he said, “O wretched man that I am!” But Peter speaking of Bro. Paul, says, In all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest as they do also the other scriptures unto their own destruction. — 2 Pet. 3:16. Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect. But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery.

Now let us examine other passages of scripture where he uses the word “I am.” In V. 14, in the same chapter he acknowledges himself, saying, “I am carnal, sold under sin.” And in the eighth chapter says the carnal mind is not subject to the law of God, and that it is enmity against God; and to be carnally minded is death. The great meaning of the word carnal is minding of the flesh. Let us notice previous to this in chapter 7:5, saying, when we were in the flesh, speaking of his past experience; this shows that he was free from all carnality previous to verses 14 and 24 of same chapter. Now in the last verse says, With the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin. And if this be his present experience he was a double minded man, and James says such is unstable in all his ways. Jas. 1:8. Which would be the same as accusing our Savior of being double- minded; for in Paul’s epistles to the Corinthians he says, We have the mind of Christ, and says, We speak wisdom among them that are perfect.

This is the reason that sects and second-work fighters to day are trying to sustain the first-work theory, that justification is sufficient for this life, and will not go on to perfection where they can understand the hidden mysteries, but are satisfied with the babe life. Paul taught the Corinthians, saying, howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men. He describes children as those who use milk. 1 Cor. 3:1, 2. In Heb. 5:13, 14 he shows the distinction between those who use milk and they that use strong meat, and says the milk-using Christians are unskillful in the word of righteousness, for they are babes, but those who use strong meat have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. In 1 Cor. 13:9-13 speaking of this babe life, We know in part and we prophesy [or preach] in part, but when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child I spake as a child; I understood as a child; I thought as as a child; but when I became a man I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass darkly [when a child], but then face to face [when a man]; now I know in part [when a child], but then shall I know even as also I am known [when a man]. And now [and not until now] abideth faith, hope, charity, and when put on is the bond of perfectness. We see Paul teaching perfection in Col. 1:28; Heb. 6:1, and also in 2 Cor. 7:1 which says, Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and Spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. And in 2 Tim. 2:6, the husbandman that laboreth must be first partaker of the fruits.

Then how can men be so blind as to say Paul was a carnal minded man when they read Rom. 8:1, There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit, for the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. Your brother in Christ,

M. A. Marcee.

Dear Saints of God: I feel led to write my testimony to tell how good the Lord is to me, and how he does bless me in all things. I was saved at my own house. My wife would not see the light, but when I went to Gratiot Camp Meeting I went for victory and glory to God I did get it. Now she is saved, and I want all the dear saints to pray that she may be sanctified. God has taken away the tobacco habit. I was a slave to it for twenty-two years. Dear Saints: I feel led to write my testimony this evening. I praise God for full salvation. God says he sent his only begotten Son into this world to destroy the works of the devil. I am so glad that I ever learned that Jesus was able to give us a pure heart, and to keep us from all ungodliness in this present world. Blessed be the name of Jesus! I cannot praise him enough for what he has done for me, The more I hear the false prophets crying out for sin and salary, oh it makes my soul cry out to God to save the people from such darkness. We must watch and pray and keep our eyes on God’s word, for it is a light to our path. For many false prophets have come into the world, saying, “This is the way.” Believe it not. Pray for me that I may be ready at all times to hold up Jesus as a perfect Savior. Your sister saved and sanctified, and kept in the one fold,

Sarah E. Sims.

Cardinal Gibbons, one of the chief heads of popery in the United States, as reported by a newpaper reporter, alluding to the protestant sects, said, “There are every where signs of a return to the old (Catholic) church. Not only in the extraordinary growth of ritualism, but in the proceedings of sects formerly bitterly antagonistic to our institutions and practices. Thus, for instance, there has been established, in the Methodist church, the order of deaconesses. What is this but a copy of our sisterhoods? And the Presbyterians are discussing the establishment of a similar order. The general tendency is toward Catholicism, slowly but steadily and unmistakably.”

Thus old Mother Gog smiles to see her Magog daughters gradually creeping back into her lap, as they become corrupt enough to affiliate with her. ANOTHER BOOK.

_____

For some time the Lord has been impressing us of the fact that the boys and girls of our land, as well as older ones have been sadly neglected, as to proper teaching against sexual sins, and secret vices, etc. And we feel the time has come for people to become awakened on this subject as never before. There are multitudes of grown up children of to day who are wrecks, soul and body, because they had no warning against such things. Parents sometimes say, “Let the children learn by experience,” but alas! it is too often a sad experience, and at the expense of their souls. There is too much sham modesty on the part of the parents concerning these things. They should be taught at home, in our schools, from the pulpit, through the press and on every hand as never before.

Various books have been written on the subject, some very good ones, but there is at present a great need of a small work treating the subject from a Bible standpoint, also setting it forth in such plain simple language that anyone can understand it, and know just how to find deliverence from the same.

I am now writing a book for boys, which, it is hoped will be the means of rescuing many who have been enslaved with evil habits, also in warning others of danger ahead. We hope to have this work ready in a few weeks, immediately after which I feel it to be the will of the Lord to write a more extensive work for the benefit of older persons both married and single, showing the true relation of the sexes: and also the evil practices, habits, etc., and not only how to get rid of the evils, but how to get rid of the effects.

I not only see the great need of such a work, but also realize the responsibility of writing the same, therefore I earnestly request your prayers that the work may be inspired and go forth as a message from heaven. There are so many, both married and single, who are yet great sufferers from the effects of former habits, and practices, and would give almost anything to know how to get rid of the same, but have failed to be overcomers, and thus they become victims of quack doctors, medical institutions, etc., where their cases are made worse instead of better. Many would love to have proper advice if they knew where to get it. If anyone desires to aid in this work in anyway, by way of private suggestions, or asking questions for light and instruction: or by giving a brief experience, please write to me at once and mark the letter private, on outside of envelope, and it will be considered confidential. If an answer to such letter is desired, stamps should be sent for reply. Yours in Him,

E. E. Byrum.

News from the Field.

_____

Butler, Pa., Oct. 16, 1893.

Dearly Beloved Saints of the Household of God, Greeting: Blessed be the God of mercy and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, for all his wonderful goodness unto us, and all mankind. Oh let all creation praise the name of pur Redeemer! Since coming to this place he has most wonderfully blessed our souls. The Holy Spirit does rest upon us in a marvelous manner, compelling the respect, confidence and good order and attention of all who came to the house of God. The only persons we have seen misbehave at all in the meetings were one or two who were drunk on sectish wine.

Thanks be unto God, his almighty power is subduing hearts and wills to himself. Last week there were no consecrations, but we did not feel that our work was done. Though urgently called for at other places, the Master held us here, and thank God we knew it would not be in vain. Yesterday and last night, the flood of divine grace swept away Satan’s embargos. Several souls bowed before God, some receiving pardon, others entire sanctification. Stout hearts and wills are bending to the Lord. The Lord is raising up a precious church of his own here. And already the work has spread to three other towns. Praise God from whom all blessings flow! God has given us a company of co-workers, who really give themselves to prayer, with fastings oft, and constant labors in persuading men and women to seek and obey God. And the Lord is wonderfully blessing all our souls together. Our company consists of Sister Billig, and Sister Sines, Brothers Martz and Schreiber, wife and myself. Brother and Sister Smith are in Ohio for a season. Shortly after the departure of Brother Henry, the dear Lord brought Brother W. B. Schreiber from Floyd’s Knobs, Ind., and thus he has beautifully, and wisely provided for the work here. We are looking for the salvation of other souls, and we do not know how long the work may hold us here. The will of the Lord be done. Let all the saints of God pray that he may save many souls in this place for Christ’s sake. Amen.

Dear Saints of God: May the Lord bless you all and keep you to the end. The meeting we intended to begin here October 1st, we postponed, having failed to get a tent. But I am still praying to God to send forth laborers into his harvest in this great destitute field. Amen. I began meeting on Friday night before the third Lord’s day in September, three miles south of here, in the country at a Methodist meeting house. There have been a number of consecrations. To God be all the glory. Quite a number still seeking, some for pardon, some for sanctification. Will probably close Friday night, as the M. E. Presiding Elder will begin quarterly meeting Saturday. Brethren and sisters, pray for me, for I am the only one in Southern Illinois that is against Babylon among all the preachers. So I desire your prayers. I am saved and under the blood,

Dear Beloved Saints and Trumpet Readers: We are very glad to report to you once more in the name of Jesus. Truly God is good to our souls and we are highly privileged in being counted worthy to be associated with the dear saints of God. You are all very dear to me, and I am earnestly praying God to bless you all and to add to your numbers. May we all increase with the increase of God. Dear ones, let us advance, lift up the standard, press forward, push the battle, storm the hosts of Satan, cry aloud and spare not, until Zion becomes a praise in all the earth, until all nations hear of this glorious evening light.

I expect to work in America this winter; perhaps in Kansas and Nebraska. We are now holding a meeting at this place, to continue as long as the Lord leads. Pray for us, that the dear Lord may have his way with us at all times. Address us at Grand Junction, Mich.

Dear Trumpet Readers: May the peace and blessings of Israel’s God abide with you forever. Amen. We have recently returned from the north-eastern part of the state of Kansas, and are glad to report that we are still sweetly saved and kept by power divine, and that God has blest our labors during our western tour, and saved precious souls. After the close of the meeting at Nishnabotna, Mo., we accompanied Sisters Cole and Carmichael to Robinson, Brown County, Kansas, where a few meetings were held, and after inquiring of the Lord his will concerning us, we soon bade adieu to the dear ones, and left for Grand Junction, where we arrived safe with grateful hearts to God, and rejoiced to meet with the dear Trumpet Family once again. Bro. and Sister Austin expect to return to their home for a short time to attend to some business, and will doubtless visit the little church at Otsego. Yours humbly saved in Jesus,

Birdie E. Fink, G. V. Austin & wife.

To all of God’s Dear Children, Greeting: Our souls are joyful in the Lord. We closed meeting at Nishnabotna the 8th. God gave us precious victory. A number were reclaimed and a few newly saved. The enemy had been practicing deceit on God’s little ones, touching their nervous systems making them believe it was the power of God, but the devil got exposed, the snare was broken and a number of precious souls escaped. Some of them when the devil was rebuked in their cases, found out they had no experience at all; but they came to Jesus, and he soon supplied the lack. The dear Lord gave us quite a good ordinance meeting, nearly fifty present. There was one baptized and several went on and received the second benefit. From there our company, Bro. and Sister Austin and Sister Fink came to this part and have been holding meeting at private houses for the benefit of the church, and a few have been reclaimed. The tabernacle is put up to-day five miles south-west of here, and we will commence meeting in it the 17th the Lord willing. Pray much for us.

Dear Saints of the Living God: May the rich blessings of God rest on you all continually. From the Hollenburg camp meeting we went to Thompson, Neb., and commenced meeting in the name of the Lord Sept. 1, and continued a little over two weeks. But there was not very much good accomplished. The enemy was there in power to hinder the work. We bore with them as long as we thought prudent. Michael left for Denver on the 8th, thus leaving me alone to battle with the enemy. I asked the Lord what to do, whether to close meeting, or continue; and if he wanted me to close to open the way for meetings somewhere else. So on Sunday Sept. 17, I felt very much impressed to close after the afternoon services. And about sundown two teams drove up to take us out in the country next morning about five miles south west of Endicott, Neb. Here several souls were saved and sanctified and the Lord built up a blessed little church in this place. On Oct. 15th seven precious souls were buried with the Lord in baptism, and twenty took part in the other ordinances. Praise the dear Lord forever! Bro. Willis stopped with us a week as he returned from Arkansas City to Gresham. We came to Table Rock yesterday, and will store the tabernacle, and then go wherever the Lord leads. We feel impressed to go into Iowa this winter. Any wishing meeting will please correspond with us here. Yours saved and sanctified,

Brethren, praise the Lord! Although few in number, we are still praising the Lord for what he is doing. Brethren, we have been instrumental in saving some, glory to God! Last night we prayed with a dear sister for divine healing, and our prayers were answered. Hallelujah! How we do magnify his name! Two souls justified, and one dear sister sanctified that we know of. Praise God, we are sowing the seed. Casting our bread upon the waters, and when we meet people to-day, and may be never see them again, as in this great city, we never know the effect of a kind word, or a fervent hearty God bless you! May God help us to be always ready to give a genuine Praise the Lord to sinners.

I have given up all business, and secular work, stripped myself of this world’s goods. Entirely consecrated myself and all I have, time and talent, or all I ever expect to have to the Lord. Am now preaching a full gos-

They mince, and sometimes move us, or break up our crowd when they can do so under pretense of our blocking up the street, but God has given us the message and we will deliver it. Praise God! God has healed us both soul and body. Glory to his name! And said unto us, Go ye into all the world and preach my gospel, teaching all nations (Mark 28:19), and in the next verse he says, teaching them to observe all things as commanded, and lo I am with you even unto the end of the world. Hallelujah! Amen. We know that we have passed from death unto life, and in whom we trust. Now brethren, should the Spirit lead any of you to write me at this place. I give my address below, as I am ready to preach the gospel anywhere the Lord leadeth me. Throughout all parts as well as here. I glory not in myself, but in Jesus of Nazareth who was slain for our justification, and raised from the dead for our purification, that we through his death might live. Amen. Now may the God of all peace abide with you all, amen. Praise the Lord!

Dearly Beloved Saints of God: May the blessings of heaven be upon you always, and make you to abound more and more in the precious love of God. We are happy to report perfect victory in the name of Jesus. Praise his name forever! We commenced meeting at Stony Point school house Oct. 4. where we had been in August, people being greatly interested. We had a glorious meeting. After a few days (Oct. 9), Bro. Kilpatrick left us, and went East about sixty miles into the mountains to hold a meeting; accompanied by Brother and Sister Wade from Dodge. Bro. Baber and I continued the meeting at Stony Point with good results. Souls were saved at nearly every service. About eight converted, and nine sanctified before I left: and twelve of them willing to obey the Lord in all things by following his example, were buried with him in baptism, and the Lord wonderfully witnessed the work, and many shouts and praises to God ascended during the service. Having another meeting announced at West Bend school house, I had to leave the meeting with Bro. Baber, and the Lord was with them in power; one more added to the number after I left. There are seven others who desire to be baptized soon. May God bless the dear people and keep them faithful is our prayer. We had a good time in the Lord at West Bend. Although no one was saved, the people were greatly interested in hearing the gospel. On account of singing school at nights we could not continue the meeting during the week, as we expected, but moved about three miles to the West Wood meeting house where we expect to begin meeting to-night, the Lord willing. We came to this place (Dodge) yesterday and one sister was baptized. The work of the Lord is moving along gloriously in this part. To Him be all the glory forever. Bro. Baber and Bro. Stevenson expect to go with me to West Wood to-day, and others will come later. The Lord willing, we expect to continue the meeting over Sabbath and as much longer as the Lord wills. Bro. Kilpatrick and I expect to go to St. Clair, East Tennesee to begin meeting Nov. 1st.

We are fully saved in Jesus, kept in perfect peace, with constant victory in his precious name. Pray for us, and the work in the South. Amen. Yours in the faith,

Dear Saints and Trumpet Readers: The Lord bless you all. Dear ones, since our last report the Lord has been with us in mighty power. The assembly at Renfroe. Miss, was a real salvation season in the Lord. The Lord made bare his mighty arm in the salvation of souls and the healing of bodies. Glory to his name! Although the weather was very unfavorable the congregations were good all the time and very large on the last day. The meeting continued about ten days with glorious results. We came on from there to Spring Hill church, ten miles southeast of Meridian, where we met a large congregation of saints and anxious inquirers. Here we had another refreshing from the presence of the Lord, and left the meeting with Bro’s A. L. Creel, C. Hill and Wiley Smith, and came on home to Ellisville, where after an absence of nearly three months I met with the wife and dear children and found them well. Praise the Lord! Wife and I then joined Bro. J. J. Jones and Sister Georgia Thomas in a meeting at the Underwood chapel near Sandersville, where we had another good and profitable meeting. Then we were joined at our home by Bro’s W. J. Smith and A. J. Watkins, and started next day for Hammond, La., by way of New Orleans, and arrived at the Uuion chapel Oct. 6, and found a hearty welcome to the home of dear Bro. W. W. Bankstons. We then commenced meeting with glorious results from the beginning. About fifty or sixty precious souls have been gloriously delivered from sectism of all kinds, and professed the real salvation of Jesus. Some claim the experience of sanctification, many others of justification. I believe many of them have real bright clear experiences. On last Thursday we went to the Tangipohoa river where fifteen precious souls followed the Lord in baptism. Again on Sunday at eleven o’clock we returned to the water at the same place, and nine more were buried with Christ in baptism. More to follow soon. The Sunday school at that place has about seventy scholars. Oh the Master is wonderfully delivering the people here from sin and sectism. We came on this morning to Ebenezer to begin a meeting to night in the name of Jesus and in the order of the Lord. Pray much for us. Yours in Christ,

Newton, O., Oct. 18, 1893.

Dear Brethren and Trumpet Readers: May the peace of God abide on you all in the name of Jesus. Amen. We are praising God to day for salvation through the blood of Christ. Dear brethren, it has been some time since I have reported through the Trumpet our work in the field, and the reason is, we have committed the reports of meetings we helped to hold to other brethren. During the summer we helped in five camp meetings, and two grove meetings. Our last camp meeting was near Fenwick, Ont. Truly God gave us perfect victory in these meetings. Daring the summer we have seen many souls made free from sin and sectism, and also many healed of their diseases, for which we give God all the glory. At the close of the Canada camp meeting my wife and I remained in Canada about one week, during which time we met with the saints four times. God most wonderfully blessed our souls in speaking to the people. From Canada we came to Bro. Kerr’s in Marion Co., Ohio. At this place God most wonderfully helped us to preach the truth to the people. One brother was made free in Jesus, and the whole country much stirred. We were in Marion Co. nearly four weeks. We held about three weeks in Zion school house, five miles from Bro. Kerr’s, and preached six times in the Christian meeting house in Bro. Kerr’s neighborhood. In this meeting God also helped us. I am persuaded to believe God will effect a good work in those parts in the near future, as the people are seeing the light. God has a precious little church in those parts of about seven, who meet in the name of Jesus.

Oct. 11 we came to West Liberty and was in one prayer meeting with the saints there. God gave us a real precious feast. The 13th Bro. Whitcraft came after us and now we are holding meeting in Newton, in a large meeting house owned by the Christian and Baptist denominations. The people turn out to hear the Word with profound interest. At the close of this meeting we will go to DeKalb Co., Ind., and hold meeting somewhere near Cedar Creek. We hope to stop at West Liberty and LaRue, O. on the way, and hold a few meetings. We would love to fill all the calls, but we can only do the best we can, and pray God to stir some brethren I know of who are at home digging in the earth, while souls are starving for the want of Bible salvation. We are three in company, my wife, Sister Adena Warwick and myself. God has supplied us with a soprano singer, so we have three parts. Brethren, pray for us that God make us a flame of fife and win many souls to Jesus.

I must say right here, that I fully indorse Bro. Warner’s letter to the saints and workers. In general there must be more real Christ, and less self and personal ability manifested in our efforts to scatter divine truth and pull souls out of the fire. Sister Mary Cole in her article, “WILL A MAN ROB GOD?” set forth clearly the awful curse of preachers depending on what they have learned in the past, and not seeking new revelations from God in his Word. Oh brethren, do not let us trust in ourselves nor put our trust in the arm of flesh, but put our trust in the almighty God. By the help of God I shall profit by both what Sister Cole wrote in that article and by Bro. Warner’s letter.

We remain your brother and sisters in Christ Jesus, sanctified wholly,

Liverpool, England, Oct. 6, 1893.

Dearly Beloved Saints, Greeting: May great grace be upon you all continually, with an increase of faith which worketh by love. We are happy to report through the TRUMPET perfect victory over all the powers of the enemy, with plenty of grace and glory accompanied with holy fire and zeal according to knowledge given us of God. While at West Point, Pa., holding a meeting some time ago, in company with dear Brother and Sister Rupert, we felt impressed to come to this country, though did not have but a dollar or so at the time. Yet seeing the need of God’s ministers going everywhere preaching the Word, and God continually saying, whom can I send? who will go for us? I promised God if he would give me seventy-five dollars as a confirmation of the fact he wanted me to go, I would obey. He said go by giving me the said amount to the cent. So I paid my vows unto the Most High, and it not only has been a mighty satiating of our own souls, but resulted in the salvation of many others. God has raised up a glorious little church in this place and he is still saving souls, and so adding to the church. Though the work seemed to stop some time ago, and we were at a loss to know what it was for a time, but by fasting and prayer God revealed unto us the hidden things of darkness in the form of millenniumism. And God sent forth the judgments of his word accompanied with the flaming fire, and the hail swept away the refuge of lies, and the waters overflowed hiding places. And we know that judgment went forth unto victory by the Spirit of our God and by the glory of God that was revealed in his people; though it may be at the sacrifice of some soul, from the fact that God will not have his church spotted with anything. And we know that God has especially helped us by his power and his word to refute this error in the sight of all honest souls that have the Spirit of God. And we humbly beg of those who have been tainted with its deceptive effects to renounce such, by confessing and forsaking it henceforth and forever. And make an everlasting covenant with God, and get the transparent glory of God in your souls.

Though we have had some pretty hard fights with the beast power here, God has brought us out more than conquerors, with an increase of faith and a better knowledge of the mysteries of the gospel. Already the Sanballats and Tobiahs have heard that the walls are being built in this place, and have come in and wanted to build with us, but when they understand that they have nothing to do with it without the salvation of Jesus Christ, and not being willing to pay the price to get it, as the same spirit of old did, they go prating against the truth and God’s people, to do all they can against it. For the devil knows when the walls are finished and the gates closed, which means the thorough establishing of the church in God’s eternal holiness, it will forever shut out all isms and ites and will also stop the devil’s deceiving honest souls. But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. — Oba. 17. We understand this means the church of God. See Heb. 12:22. And now since God has given us glorious victory here we do not attribute it alone to our own faith and obedience, which of course has much to do with it; but we believe hundreds of God’s saints are praying for the work here and God is answering prayer. And as you continue to meet together in the name of the Lord, we ask your prayers, especially for the work here. That we may shun not to declare the whole counsel of God to all the capacity of our understanding. By executing the judgments that are written in the Spirit of our God. That the oppressed may be delivered; namely, God’s remnant. For God has not sent out his ministers in these last day to pass over judgment, and court the ungodly friendship of this world. But says, Zion shall be redeemed with judgment and her converts with righteousness. Isa. 1:27.

We praise God for a salvation that delivers us from all Babylon confusion. A sectarian preacher in America having heard, as he said, a fire was going to break out in Jerusalem, Palistine, got the impression to go. So he came by the way of Liverpool and attended the meetings awhile, and to his astonishment he found Jerusalem in Liverpool, Heb. 12:22, and withal too much fire to be very agreeable with sect spirits. He had the same old story to tell, the sects are not Babylon. We pray God he may yet flee out and deliver his soul. Another elderly preacher of the same type came in to help us build. Now since we have all respect for old age and all love for souls, yet we were forced to tell him that God could not use his sect material in his building; though he claimed to have fellowship with the saints in America. But we know it could not be, from the fact he could not say “shibboleth,” that is, speak the language of Canaan, and he did not meet the conditions. He too went from us. We do not pretend to be the wisest of master builders, but God has given us a pretty good understanding of the architecture or plan, and those that build with us must build according to the same, otherwise it would not be accepted of God. So those that would be planted in the house of our God must return from Babylon, Egypt and Sodom. We shout the victory over the beast power in the name of the Lord.

Among those who have been delivered of late is our dear Bro. G. Larson, a Swedish brother, who also was a just man and prayed to God always, and has formerly been connected with a mission hall in this city. But being convinced of the more perfect way he has given it up and has made the consecration and reached the grace of entire sanctification. He is going soon to visit his aged mother in Norway, after which is ready to follow the Lamb whithersoever he leadeth. He is well educated in the Scandinavian languages, which of course includes the languages of Denmark, Sweden and Norway. He can translate or interpret in any of these languages readily, and we believe could be used much to the glory of God in America in translating holy literature to scatter among his people there, as well as in his own country. For God surely will have some one to go there ere long as well as to all other nations. And also he is a very humble, meek, teachable brother, and we believe God is calling him to this work. Any one of the brethren feeling led to write to him concerning this, direct to our address and we will forward the same to him. We expect, the Lord willling, to go to the country soon, to hold a meeting, near thirty miles from Liverpool. There are a few of the remnant there. We humbly ask you all to pray for us and the work here, that we may open our mouths and speak boldly as we ought to speak. Your brethren and sister, contending for the faith once delivered unto the saints.

Dearly Beloved Saints: I feel led of God to write my testimony this morning for his goodness to me. I am trusting him for all things, and know that he saves me from sin and keeps me from despair; for if I did not trust him, I would be now in eternity or beyond the reach of mercy, (that is in a reprobate state). But praise God, I do know that his word does dwell in me. God alone knows what I have suffered by being disobedient, but his mercy reaches even to me. Leaning on the word of others and not on God’s word, meddling with strange doctrines, neglect to testify and trying to work for God without the Spirit leading, will bring trouble on anyone that professes the name of Christ. I preach from experience. May your prayers ascend to God with mine that I may clearly understand the will of God concerning me, and that I may have abundant patience given me of God. I know he is faithful and just, and I love the truth, justice and judgement. And I just pray that what I have suffered may be even a help to me by aiding me in warning others. For all things work together for good to those that love the Lord, and I know I love him. Amen. Your humble sister saved, relying on the promises,

Dear Brethren in Christ Jesus, Greeting: I can say I am still praising God for this wonderful salvation that I have found in Christ Jesus. He is faithful who has promised to forgive us all our sins, and to cleanse us front all unrighteousness. That we might serve him without fear in righteousness and holiness all the days of our life. Some say that we cannot live without sin. Shame on such; professing to be children of God, and their hearts are far from him. Christ said he came to save us from our sins, not in them. “Be not deceived, God is not mocked, for whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap.” “Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” “Know ye not brethren, to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey.” If you are committing sin, then you are serving the devil and not Christ. God bless all the brothers and sisters everywhere, and especially those that are laboring in the field. I am determined to do all that I can to bring souls to Christ. If I can not go out and work in the vineyard, I can help lift up the prophet’s hands, and I feel that the Lord will reward me for it. Amen. Oh how I do praise God that I was permitted to attend the Gratiot Co. C. M., and oh how it did strengthen me. God was there in mighty power to the saving of precious souls. It has been about five or six years that I have not had the privilege of attending any of the camp meetings, on account of being brought under bondage by one who said I should never go again. But it pleased God to sever the bands, and set the captive free. Oh praise God forever and ever! Oh I would say to every one that is binding the children of God down, as a warning, “Be afraid, for he beareth not the sword in vain.” God bless you all. Your sister, cleansed from all unrighteousness,

THE PRE-EMINENCE OF CHRIST.

_____

“He is the head of the body, the church, that in all things he might have the pre-eminence.” — Col. 1:18.

I know of but one denomination that really claims to give Christ the pre-eminence in all things, and they being destitute of the power of the Holy Spirit, supersede him in their blind sectarian zeal by organization. The Old Side Covenanters, while they acknowledge Christ as the great head they fail to comprehend the gospel plan of His pre-eminence. The Lord did not establish his kingdom on the thrones of earthly kings, nor at the heads of governments, but in the hearts of individuals, and they make nations and governments. The Covenanters would establish him in national decrees, that is politically. They admit that most denominations differ on points of doctrine, such as baptism, but claim that they hold together on the great fundamental headship of Christ, which is so claimed or manifested by all denominations but not publicly by any except themselves. While they admit that Christ is the head and that he founded the church, and tempered it, they claim that in order to be better able to maintain the pre-eminence of Christ down through time, they have organized, and written out a covenant. Here is destroyed the very preeminence in their body, just as though the Lord could not and did not finish or perfect his work of establishing or building the church without man finishing it up for him by organization. Then they put man’s organization up instead of Christ’s own building of the church.

After inquiring of the Lord, David found it was of the Lord that he bring the ark up from the house of Abinadab to the threshing floor. And as they were about to go up on to the threshing floor, one of the oxen that drew the cart stumbled, and Uzzah who drove the oxen thought the ark was going to fall, and he put out his hand to steady God’s ark, and God struck Uzzah dead on the spot. Now man for want of Christ in the soul has put forth his hand of organization to steady God’s ark (church). Suppose you and I were riding together in a buggy, and you driving, and when the horse stumbled or frightened, I should grasp the lines, would it not show a lack of faith, or confidence in you, and I would offend you or insult you? Just so of organization. When we put out the hand of organization to steady the church of God, we are weak in faith, show an unsaved spirit, and lack of faith in God’s word and power, and a heart destitute of the indwelling of the Holy Ghost (the comforter), who shall teach us all things. Amen.

HOW GOD LED ME.

_____

Dayton, Ohio.

Dear Readers of the Trumpet: I feel led by the Spirit of God to write my testimony. I am praising God for full and free salvation and his saving power. He saves me now. Praise God forever and ever! He has set me free from all sectism and he brought me out in the bright evening light; and this is the way it came about.

I had a brother to visit me about one year ago last March. God had been leading me before this, but after having some talks with brother about the true church, I prayed to God more earnestly, and read his word more carefully and prayerfully, and as God saw I could hear it, he led me out and showed me by his word where I stood and what there was for me to do. So about the ninth of August the Lord led me to the sect preacher’s home to ask for my church letter. He was greatly surprised and said it was the worst thing I could do, and spoke of others that had done the same thing and had fallen from grace. But I told him I did not compare myself with them and that I would have to obey God and not man.

But some time previous to this I had met with the teachers of the Sabbath school (I being a teacher); after the business part was over, they spoke of having a teachers’ meeting once a week, for the study of the lesson. But they could not decide on a leader, so it was not decided upon at all. Then the Spirit gave me a word to say to them. So I told them that I did not need man for my teacher, as I had taken Christ for my teacher, and he gave me all the wisdom I wanted or needed. But I saw they did not understand and failed to have the spirit of Christ, and it grieved me very much, and after I came home I asked the Lord to show me what I wanted to know, as I was at loss what I wanted to know. First he pointed out to me John 16. I read the first three verses; that was for me to understand what they would do to me because they did not know the Father or Christ, and that I should not be offended at what they should do to me, for one the of the young teachers actually turned her back to me while I was talking. Oh God forgive them, for they know not what they are doing. Then after closing the book and shutting my eyes I said, What next, Lord, for I did not feel satisfied. And the same voice came again, Rom. 10. So on turning to it I also read the first three verses. That explained to me how they stood before their God. Oh how I do pity them! I read these to their preacher and he was as much surprised as the rest had been, and asked me if I did not open the book before I prayed, and I told him I did not, and asked him where the Spirit was. I said too that I could not think it was the evil spirit, as he would not point out such passages. So he had no more to say on the subject.

I tell this to show others how I am led by the Spirit. So he leads me day by day. The Spirit also led me to New Carlisle camp meeting; was there one week, lacking one day. Went there to learn of God’s holy children, and I did learn a great many things; and one among the many was the evils of pride and fashion, for I had a very proud heart. But I thought I had given every thing to the Lord, but after hearing this talk from one of God’s true children I found I had not given every thing up. And now he has not only taken it out of my heart, but out of my dear little girl’s heart also. I can see a great change in her in answer to prayer. I praise the Lord for it and give him all the glory.

Let all the saints pray for me that I may ever be kept humble and obedient to the will of the Lord. I am fully saved and sanctified. Glory to God forever for his keeping and saving power! I am an instrument in his hands to be used to his glory. I have one sister that stands with me in this true and pure faith, and we have thought we were alone to fight for God and the truth, but since I came to write I saw in the GOSPEL TRUMPET of Sept. 28 the name of Geo. Huffman and wife, living in the city: and we will call at their home if they will give their street and number. For that is one of our missions, to visit the sick and afflicted and talk and pray-with them. And we have also been praying for the dear Lord to open the way for some of his holy ministers to come to Dayton and preach the truth, and we feel that he will, for we take hold of the promise in Matt. 18:19. Now if any of God’s firebrands feel called to come this way, our doors will be open for them. Not much money, but willing hearts and hands. Glory to God forever and ever! I am a sister’ saved and under the blood, kept by his power,

Anna Kendig.

Dear Trumpet Readers: I feel led to write my testimony for the glory of God. I do praise God that he ever sent the dear saints to lead us out of darkness into his light, and I thank him for healing me of sore throat instantly. I am not sixteen years old yet, but I am praying that my dear Lord will fit me for and give me a work to do to glorify him. Pray for me that I may ever be faithful and serve God. Your sister in Christ,

Myrtle Caldwell.

Dear Saints: I rejoice that I ever heard the true way of holiness taught and accepted it. To day I am saved and sanctified. Jesus is keeping me, and I realize that I am growing stronger in him, and sinking deeper in his blessed will each day. Although I have been sanctified over five years, I have not had the privilege of hearing but little holiness preaching until the last year. I rejoice in my freedom I have found in Christ, and I praise him for the blessings he bestows upon me daily. I never belonged to any denomination. This is my first testimony through the TRUMPET. Your sister in Christ,

Anna Groves.

Dear Saints: The dear Lord wonderfully blesses me every day and keeps me saved from all the sins of this world and all of its pleasures. I am dead to the world and alive in Jesus Christ. I give God all the glory for what he is doing for me. I am glad he has led me out of sectism and that the Spirit of the Lord makes us free, and our hearts full of praises to the Lord. We have lots of Babylon workers here, but it does me good to praise the Lord through all or their mockery. There are only three of us saints here, but we can praise the Lord at all times. Your saved brother in Christ,

W. A. Fenwick.

Dear Ones: I can say I am saved. Bless the Lord! I am rejoicing and thanking the Lord for the camp meeting he gave us and for those he sent here to give the word. May he ever keep them true to him. O for a sinking down into God’s will! Praise God for humility and the lessons I am learning every day I live out of God’s word. Although I have been a constant reader of God’s word ever since I was convicted and saved, find its precious truths never grow old — always something new. O for a closer walk with God, that I may live that the world may know that I have been with Jesus. Your sister, saved,

Lieutecid Light.

Dear Trumpet Readers: The Lord saves me and sanctifies me wholly. I have much to be thankful for. I was sick and have been taking medicine for over two and one-half years. One day in August my cousin came and wanted me to go to Holenburg to the camp meeting. I thought I couldn’t suffer any more there than at home, so I went. I determined to live a better life, with God’s help, went to him in prayer to forgive me. I was baptized on the 27th and then I was anointed for healing with the laying on of holy hands. Oh I wish could tell how I felt! The next day I was as well as I ever was. Oh I praise God for his tender mercy. What a loving Savior we have! He stays with us in sickness and in health. Your sister, saved and sanctified wholly,

Edith Estella Cooper.

Dear Saints of God: I feel it would be to the glory of God to tell some of my experience. The Lord saved my soul over three years ago, when I was fifteen years old. And I enjoyed the real salvation of God, I believed as much as anyone could, until about five months ago, when by my own carelessness, I dost it out of my soul. Then I was a misery unto myself and all who were around me. It seemed as though I was a stranger unto all mankind; I seemingly had no rest, and no peace. My joy had all left me. Sorrow and anger was with me from morning until night. My life became worse for about four weeks; then when I came to God dead in sins, then the Lord wonderfully saved my soul. Then I had peace with God. A few days afterward I presented my body a living sacrifice and got perfect peace that gave me joy and love. Bless the Lord! I expect to live for the Lord. I have had a bitter experience of the backslidden state. I desire all the saints to pray for me. Yours in him.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ: I am rejoicing in a full salvation. I do praise God for the precious lessons he has taught me during and since the Arkansas City camp meeting. All straps and bands are severed. “If the Son therefore shall make you free ye shall be free indeed.” Jno. 8:36. I do realize what it means to be dead to this world. When I was willing to meet all the conditions of God’s word and take hold of God by faith, he cleansed my heart from the least taint of love for this world. I am crucified to this world. My life is hid with Christ in God. Oh glory! I am feasting daily at Father’s table. I have counted the cost and paid the price. God justified me freely. Presenting my body a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God; placing my all upon the altar (Christ), the altar sanctifies the gift. What joy and peace flows from the throne of God down into the hearts of his little ones, that are fully given over to Father’s control! I am in God’s hands to be used of him to his glory. Your sister justified, sanctified and satisfied with Jesus,

Hattie Allen.

Dear Saints of God, Greeting: As I never have written my testimony yet, I feel led by the Lord to say a few words for the One that is so precious to my soul. I am wholly sanctified, and the blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth me from all sin. I cannot praise him enough for saving such a wicked person as I was. But when I think over my past life, it makes me feel like staying the closer to him, for I have the assurance in my heart that he never will forsake me, for he says in Matt. 11:28, 29, 30, — Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart ant ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

I do praise God that he has given to me a Christian wife which has been a great strength to me in many times of affliction. Dear saints, I want the prayers from all, that we may be led by the Holy Spirit each day we sojourn here, and may let our light shine before our fellowmen that it may be worthy of invitation.

I wish to say to the saints at Renfroe that I can never forget the kind faces and hearts that I met there, and oh how my prayers ascend for you all that you may all grow in grace and in the knowledge of the truth. Now may the Lord bless you all. Pray for me and family,

T. E. Covey.

Dear Trumpet Readers: I was clearly converted in childhood, but not being taught that it was possible to live without commiting any sin, I only lived according to what light I had but in after years, hearing justification taught as God’s word teaches it, I saw God required it, and it looked high and beautiful and I walked in the light. Afterwards hearing of sanctification as a second work, I turned to the Word and was soon convinced that it was Bible doctrine and hungered for the experience, and when I read’ “This is my will, even your sanctification,” I was determined to do the whole will of God, but not understanding it very well Satan hindered me for a time with the fear that I could not retain so high an experience and falling could not be reclaimed, but the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him and delivereth them, and he saw the severe and painful struggles, and gave me strength to firmly trust him for my cleansing and to keep me from falling. I was wholly sanctified in Feb., 1888, God clearly witnessing to the complete cleansing. I knew positively that I was in the promised land and my soul was satisfied and has been every since. I have been connected with no denomination for about twelve years. This is my first testimony to the Trumpet.

Editor Trumpet: I wish to give my experience in full. I was converted at the age of fifteen and joined the M. E. sect. I of course had no light on the one CHURCH. I soon felt called of God to preach (as young as I was), but the sect said “you are too young, yet we recognize your gift.” And so they gave me license to exhort, and for two or three years remained an exhorter in the sect, (thinking I had to obey them) and then they gave me license to preach. I used it for a space of two or three years, and then joined the annual conference and preached for a circuit in an annual conference, until four years ago this month (Oct. 26) when was sanctified wholly, throughout, entire, and I walked out for God on the New Testament doctrine and the one Church of God. After working for three years free for God, and preaching free and pure salvation the devil said, Now it may be you could preach holiness in the sects, as sanctification has been pretty well preached in these parts. So I tried for about one year to have some fellowship with the sects. While I never joined the M. E. sect, I did join the Free Baptist sect and staid with them about two months. Finding them the same in spirit against holiness, I have withdrawn from anything in the form of sects, I am out free for God. My experience is that no sanctified soul can keep perfect liberty and compromise with sectism. And we cannot stay clean and free, unless we remain as free as God made us in the act of sanctifying our nature. Glory to God! The blood cleanseth me now from all that is unholy. Amen. Yours for Christ and the right,

D. Keeton.

To ali. the Dear Saints of God: My testimony is that I am fully saved and kept by the mighty power of God, and still working for Jesus. Last Saturday and Sabbath I held forth the light of truth and judgment in the Campbellite meeting house, five miles south-east of Shoals. There was a good turn out and much interest. At the last service a Campbellite preacher was present and took the liberty to “deny the power of God;” yet he had the “form of godliness;” for he said he believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as much as any man living. After relating to the people some of the mighty work of the apostles, he then told them that the day of miracles was forever past and gone. Then the vile sinner told the people that the Holy Ghost power was not given in these days to any man, neither would be. Oh God, what darkness! Boasting of their present light, which becoming darkness, how great is that darkness! Praise God! I saw it stamped on many faces that the Spirit of God had taken hold of their hearts. The U. B. people told me I could have their meeting house, and several told me I had preached the Bible. I was all alone, no one to help sing or pray. I am going back soon the Lord willing, and expect Bro. W. A. Davison here to go along. God grant it. Oh dear saints, in these perilous, mocking times, live near Jesus. Remember wife and me in your prayers. Jesus is holding up a beautiful robe and a crown before our gaze. Lord help us to be among the number “who come up through great tribulation, and have made their robes white in the blood of the Lamb.” May God send the spirit of conviction to every unsaved one that may read this, is my prayer. Dear reader, are you ready? If not, why not? “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me.” Amen. Your humble brother saved with a free and full salvation,

A. P. Dennis.
