A Song of Praise.

_____

The spring has come once more,
With grass so green and fair;
The little birds are sending forth
Sweet music through the air.

Should not the feathered songsters
Send forth their notes above,
And praise the God of heaven
For his kind care and love?

And man created by Him,
In constant love and care
Should think upon his goodness,
And offer up a prayer

To the great God of heaven,
Who sent his own dear Son
To save them, lost and ruined,
From sins that they had done.

Yes, we whose souls are lighted
With wisdom from above,
Will not forget to praise him
For all his care and love.

Oh yes, we’ll sing of Jesus,
Of his mighty power we’ll tell,
That’s banished all the darkness,
And saved our souls from hell.

BELIEVING AND RECEIVING.

_____

IT is a question in the minds of many, even professing Christians of to day, as to whether or not it is our privilege to have the “faith once delivered to the saints,” and power with God as did the apostles. But this is an easy matter settled by those who are willing to accept the word of God as true.

In order to be sure about it and make matters plain, let us then take the word and see from whence this power comes. Here we read Matt. 28:18, that Jesus says, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” In the tenth chapter of Matthew we find that he gave power to the twelve apostles; and in the tenth chapter of Luke we find he gave the same power to the seventy whom he sent out. They not only had power to preach the gospel, heal the sick, etc., but he says, “Behold, I give unto you power over all the power of the enemy.”

THIS POWER GIVEN TO OTHERS.

The twelve apostles and the seventy were not the only ones upon whom this power was bestowed, for Jesus says again in Jno. 14:12-14, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.”

Here we find the promise to anyone who will believe, and we read Heb. 8:13, that Jesus Christ is “the same yesterday to day and forever.” Then about how long do you suppose that promise will stand good? It will last as long as there is a child of God on earth who will put God to a test by believing his word. Surely then these promises reach down to us if we believe his word. If ye abide in me and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” — Jno. 15:7. “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us: and if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” — 1 Jno. 5:14, 15.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, are you living up to your privileges? are you really believers, or are you an unbeliever, rather skeptical, fearing that it would be unsafe to launch out upon the word? Are you afraid your God is dead, or asleep, or peradventure has gone off on a journey?

IF THOU CANST BELIEVE.

“All things are possible to him that believeth.” — Mark 9:23. Then why should we go about as spiritual dwarfs. God has promised that our souls should be fat and flourishing, and if we are not so, the fault is not in him. He has placed no limit to our faith, and has promised to supply our needs and give us grace according to his riches in glory. If we will not accept the same and make use of the promises he is not to blame.

Sometimes we hear some one say, “Oh if I only had the faith, or was gifted in prayer like this brother, or that sister, I would do a wonderful work for God.” Are you among that number who are sitting on the stool of do-nothing, or standing afar off from duty waiting for faith to come to you and coax and even pet you awhile in order for you to accept it? or waiting, hoping you will suddenly come into possession of some wonderful talents, gift and power of God? You may just as well hope for a crop of corn to grow in your field without the ground being cultivated, while you sit down and wait for the fruit of the harvest, and fool away your time at something else.

If you are wanting the experience and faith of some one else, let me ask you a question. Would you be willing to pass through the trials and persecutions, and shoulder the responsibilities, and make the sacrifices etc., that the person has whose experience you have been envying? Are you willing to move out or even be pushed out into the great deep of trials and responsibilities, where it is sink or swim, have faith or sink under the waves of oppression?

Take Jesus Christ, the apostles and prophets for your example; the word of God for foundation of belief, and and you have solid footing; his Spirit to guide, and your pathway will be properly pointed out. The command is

HAVE FAITH IN GOD.

“For verily I say unto you, That whosever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed and be thou cast into the sea; AND SHALL NOT DOUBT in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass, HE SHALL HAVE whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, BELIEVE THAT YE RECEIVE THEM, AND YE SHALL HAVE them.” — Mark 11:23:24.

This is pretty strong scripture; some great promises, but they are the words of Jesus, and he is able to fulfill every promise he has made. It is to “whosoever” will believe, upon conditions that they do not “doubt.” But faith and works must go together, for faith without works is dead. People often want to go to extremes one way or the other, some want it all works and no faith, and others want all faith and no works. As the word says faith without works is dead; also that “without faith we cannot please God,” and “though I lave all faith and have not charity. I am nothing.” The charity spoken of here means the real love and grace of God in the soul that will enable one to fulfill the whole word of God. There are conditions upon which our faith will be effectual, that is that we remove every barrier, or hindrance out of the way. If a man had stolen property in his possession and desired to get saved, his faith would not be effectual until he either returned the property or faithfully promised God that he would do so; — Ezek. 33:15, or if he had hatred in his heart he would not be forgiven until he would forgive his enemies. — Matt. 6:15. If he desired God to take away the appetite of tobacco, or opium or any such filthy habit, he would first have to throw away the supply he has on hands. 2 Cor. 7:1; Jas. 1:21. So it is with the healing of the body, faith and works must go together, but too often it is that the wrong kind of works are resorted to, and but little faith. Pills, teas, drugs, patent medicines of every sort, etc., with from one to six doctors thrown in, go to make up the works or “means” to be used, to help the Lord out with the job of healing. “Oh you do not believe in using means then,” some one remarks. Yes I do, but I prefer to use the Bible means, as given in Jas. 5:13-15, which says: Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

But do not forget the first part of the 16th verse, “confess your faults * * * that ye may be healed.” So we have found that in order to properly believe, and receive an everlasting benefit, it is necessary to meet the conditions of his word. God will always honor his word where it is properly believed. Many in time of deep distress, or in some trying time while yet in their sins, will make promises to God, that they will serve him if he will heal them, or in some way answer their prayer, and God will honor their faith and his word, and soon their covenant is broken, and his favors forgotten.

Sometimes people who are living crooked lives after God has thus bestowed his favors upon them through his great mercy, take advantage of the same and try to use it as a proof of their acceptance in the sight of God.

I was once talking to a man about his soul, who had for months been away from God; had given up family prayers, quit going to meeting, and had been dealing dishonestly with his neighbors, and having family brawls at home, yet he claimed his acceptance with God. And for proof, he said he still had great faith and God was with him, and when he was sorely afflicted one day the Lord instantly healed him. But this scripture came like a flash, “Though I have all faith so that I could remove mountains and have not charity, I am nothing.” “Oh!” says he, “I have charity; not long ago I gave half the flour I had in the house to a man who was too poor to buy for his family.” Then came the words of the next verse which shut his mouth and brought him to repentance, “Though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor it profiteth me nothing.”

There is a scripture to fit the case of every false teacher and false professor to defeat the tempter, and one to encourage the true believer in every time of need. The Word is true, and is just as much to be relied upon as it ever was in the past. If you have been weak and fearful, begin now to grow strong by taking God for your strength, and believing his word and acting on its teachings.

__________

YE ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.

_____

IN Matt. 5:14-16, Christ tells his disciples that they are the light of the world, and Paul writes to the Philippians that they are the light of the world. Phil. 2:15. And Jesus says we should let our light shine. But let us notice, he does not say to MAKE it shine, but to LET it shine; and in order to let it shine, we must first have the light in us, before we can let it shine out, and the light is Christ, Jno. 8:12, and therefore we must first have Christ in us, before he can shine out. People sometimes try to make others believe, when they see the glory of Jesus shine out of God’s true children, that they have the same, but always make a failure; for if we have not the true light (Jesus) in our souls, we can never let him shine out.

Now, how are we to let our light shine, or to show to the world that Christ dwells within us?

IN OUR CONVERSATION.

Paul says: “Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ.” — Phil. 1:27. Again he says, “For our conversation is in heaven [or heavenlike, pure and holy].” Phil. 3:20. Peter says: “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation.” — 1 Pet. 1:15. See also 1 Tim. 4:12; 1 Pet. 2:12; 2 Pet. 3:11. Now from all of these scriptures we see how the conversation of God’s children ought to be; namely, holy, pure, and as it becomes the gospel of Christ, and not in foolish talking nor jesting. — Eph. 5:4. But how often do we see and hear those that profess to be Christians stand amongst sinners, and not only listen to their foolish talk, but even tell little foolish stories themselves. Let us hear what the word of God says about it: “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” — Eph. 4:29. Oh may God help every one of his children to be an example in a pure and holy conversation and thereby show forth that Jesus is dwelling in our souls. Especially in this time and age of the world, where a person hardly can tell the difference between the professed followers of Christ and the world, in their talk, the saints of God should show forth by a holy and pure conversation that Christ is dwelling in them. How does it agree when a person, during the week goes on in jesting and joking with the world, and then in meeting is praising God for salvation that saves from all worldly things? Oh dearly beloved, may God help us all to use a pure and holy language, and thereby glorify God.

IN OUR WALK.

Paul says, “Walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called.” — Eph. 4:1. Again he says that God has not called us to uncleanness but unto holiness. — 1 Thes. 4:7. Peter says that Christ has left us an example, that we should follow his steps. 1 Pet. 2:21. And in what other way can we prove to the world that we have Christ the hope of glory within us, but by our walk? Many are professing to be saved and children of God, and by their walk show that they are not walking in the footsteps of Jesus, and then instead of leading souls to Christ are stumbling blocks for them down to hell. And then the world says, if they see an ungodly professor not walking up to his profession, there is nothing in holiness. May God help all of his true children by a holy walk to let their light shine, and not only avoid walking with the world and their ways, but as Paul says, Abstain from all appearance of evil. — 1 Thes. 6:22. And James tells us that a pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. — Jam. 1:27. Therefore a child of God must keep himself away from every thing that is of the world, such as fairs, shows, etc., for the world is watching very close those that profess holiness, whether they are walking up to their profession or not, and may God grant that all his little ones keep themselves unspotted from the world, and abstain from everything that has the appearance of evil.

Now I would like to mention another point to the glory of God, as I have seen already of professed children of God spending a good deal of their time standing and sitting around in places of business and side walks in town, and engaged in worldly talks, and finding out some news, etc. Now dearly beloved, the word of God tells us to do all things to the glory of God. 1 Cor. 10:31. Now how can we to the glory of God spend our time in staying around in these places and listening to the foolish talk of others, or looking at men playing with horse shoes, etc. I can say to the glory of God that when Jesus saved me, he saved me also from spending my time in such a way as that; and how much better can we spend our time when having our business done in town, we go home and spend the time in reading the word of God and listening to Jesus instead of to worldly talk.

BY OUR WORKS.

Jesus says, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your works and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” How can we let our light shine by our works? In Matt. 5:44, Jesus says we should love our enemies, bless them that curse us, do good to them that hate us, and pray for them which despitefully use us and persecute us. Again Paul says: “Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink; for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good.” — Rom. 12:20, 21. Here we are commanded to do good for evil, and thereby show to the world, that we are the children of God. But there are many that call themselves followers of Christ who when some one has done them some wrong, they take the first chance to pay back in the same way; but our blessed Jesus has left us the example to do good for evil, as he did, and even when he was put to death he prayed for his enemies. See also Acts 7:59; 1 Cor.4:11, 12. And praise God, every one that has Christ in his soul is able by the grace of God to do good for evil, and thereby show forth that we have the mind of Jesus and his love shed abroad in our hearts; and in doing this souls will be convinced that there is something in the salvation of Jesus; and as it was love that brought him into this world to die for our sins, so we by showing to sinners that we have the love of Jesus in our hearts, bring them to Jesus. And as it is natural for a man that has the carnal mind to repay evil with evil, so it is natural for a person who has the mind of Jesus to do good for evil. Oh praise God for such salvation that makes indeed new creatures out of us. May God help us all to let our light shine wherever we go, and glorify God in all our doings, and we will be indeed a city set on a hill that cannot be hid, but the world will see and acknowledge that we are walking according to the word of God. Now Paul says: Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men. 2 Cor. 3:2. May God grant that we all walk and let our light so shine, that when the world is reading and watching us, they may see nothing but Jesus and his love shining out of our souls. Amen. Your brother in Jesus,

Geo. Vielguth.

CHILDREN’S MEETING.

_____

We frequently receive letters of inquiry concerning Sunday School literature, and how to teach the children. We have THE SHINNING LIGHT, an illustrated paper for the children; Per year, single copy 25cts, twenty- five copies $4.50, twenty-five copies three months $1.15. We also have plain scriptural cards at 10cts a hundred, these each have a verse of scripture suitable to commit to memory. We do not have lesson leaves.

The children should not be neglected. They stand in need of spiritual food, as well as older ones, and while they are young is the time to implant in their minds truths that will not depart from them. The children should be called together and some one whom God has chosen for the place should see to it that they are properly divided into classes according to their age and ability, and that they have saved teachers to instruct them in the word of God. Such teachers, whether instructing young or old, need a real anointing of the Holy Spirit, and need to study the Word, so as to create an interest in the class by showing the deep truths and beautiful thoughts in the word. Certain lines of thought, or subjects may be followed, or take one chapter after another as is most suitable. The Bible class for the older ones can be made a source of much spiritual benefit as well as becoming acquainted with the scriptures. It is well to have the children recite some passage of scripture. A secretary and class-book is no more needed than a class-book is needed in any other Gospel meeting.

IN ANSWER TO PRAYER.

_____

Therefore I say unto you. What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. — Mark 11:24.

We could furnish testimonies by the hundred, of persons who have been healed by the power of God in answer to prayer, or instances of wonderful and miraculous answers through faith and prayer. For the glory of God and encouragement of some who may be weak in faith or their faith severely tested, we will call attention to a few instances where God has seen fit to honor the faith of his children. Recently I received the following letter.

A WITHERED HAND RESTORED.

Morrice, Mich, Feb. 12, 1894.

E. E. Byrum,

Grand Junction, Mich.

Dear Sir: Through your book on faith healing, “Divine Healing of Soul and Body,” in connection with God’s holy word and helps received through correspondence with Elder Wm. G. Schell, I have been greatly benefited. My home is in Columbus, Ohio. One year ago I was in a hospital in that city, and read in the DAILY OHIO STATE JOURNAL of Feb., 4, 1893 of a “so-called miraculous cure” of one Mrs. Carmichael, through the instrumentality of Elder Wm. G. Schell, near Springfield, Ohio.

I wrote him and earnestly sought helps, always having believed in His all sufficient present ability, but unable to know whether or not, personally, I was a fit subject for immediate physical benefit. I had suffered from paralysis of entire left half of body for three years. This was my third effort at hospital help, and must say I was altogether depressed and hopeless. During this time I was very seriously afflicted and could not walk, my left hand was helpless and withering more and more every day until nearly all the flesh was gone.

But I was led through the helps mentioned, and your “GOSPEL TRUMPET” to give myself, my all, entirely to the Author of our being, and believed that the maker of any piece of work was the proper one to repair: and looked alone to him for help, and in one night — I could hardly realize it — my withered hand was restored to its full size, and next morning commenced to some degree to take up its long neglected duties. The flesh looked as pink and new and tender as that of an infant. Nurses and friends noticed it, and and doctors were called to see what had taken place, and they were astonished when they beheld what the Lord had done for me, but could not gainsay it; although some of them were skeptics they had to acknowledge it beyond their understanding. It gradually received strength and more solid color, and never from that moment — though earthly surroundings have sometimes been dark — have I doubted the loving devotion of him who cares so constantly for us. I was gradually helped along in many other ways, and can now walk a mile, though I limp some yet and have quite an uncertain gait.

I have been in Michigan since Aug. 22, and expect to return to my home in Ohio soon, and have concluded to visit you at Grand Junction, if possible. My hearing in left ear is affected by the remains of my paralysis. I read the GOSPEL TRUMPET for several months, in which cases of deafness, etc., were cited, of persons healed so beautifully, why cannot I be fully restored? I feel that I am accepted spiritually by our Father every day, and feel perfectly sure of an entrance into our promised land. Yours very kindly,

Mrs. M. M. Wing.

Shortly after the receipt of this letter Sister Wing paid us a visit and we were enabled to see what wonderful things the Lord had done for her. And her healing reminded us of the healing of Naaman the leper, 2 Kings 5:1-14, who when he obeyed God “his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child.” Truly what the Lord did in those days, he is able to do now, as he has lost none of his power. Not long ago we received the following letter about the

HEALING OF A CANCER.

Fairport, Ia. Mar. 14, 1894.

Dear Brother in Jesus: My wife had a cancer removed Jan. 26, and the other breast has a cancer also, and the doctors told her that they want to remove it next week. But since, a young brother in Sunday School last Sunday asked me if I did not believe in faith healing. I told him I did if our faith was strong enough. That evening he gave me a book entitled “Divine Healing of Soul and Body,” and this very little book has brought more light to us than we have ever had before. * * * I do believe now that Jesus can heal all kind of sickness for he said, Whatsoever ye shall ask in my name that will I do that the Father may be glorified in the Son. Please write soon, and no doctor shall touch her until I hear from you.

Your brother in Christ,

Geo. Alteneder.

The above letter was answered at once and prayer offered in her behalf, and on March 19th we received another letter from him containing the following words:

On Wednesday, my wife noticed a change in the looks of the cancer, and on Thursday she asked me to come and see the change. Over half of it was gone; and this morning she said, It is getting better and is going away, it is nearly all gone.

A few days later we received a still more favorable report from her and that their faith was wonderfully strengthened in the Lord.

INSTANTLY HEALED.

A few days ago Sister Chenoweth of Carthage, Mo. wrote us giving an account of the miraculous healing of her sister, Alta Smelser; who for seven months had been confined to her bed. Many prayers were offered in her behalf; finally she made an attempt to walk and fell on the floor as she made the attempt. She had a bad night following the attempt, and the next morning after her mother left the room to go to breakfast, she took her Bible, which was her custom, to read, and it opened at these words: “Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole.” The thought entered her mind with great force, “Pray for yourself.” She, at once, with her heart filled with faith as never before, took her case to God in prayer, saying, “O Lord, I look to thee in the name of Jesus to raise me up from this bed.” In a moment she felt as well as she ever did, and got right up out of bed and walked to the dining room and took her seat at the table and ate breakfast, which alarmed the family so that they did not know where they were for a few moments. The neighbors were called in and found her looking almost as well as they had ever seen her.

TOOTHACHE CURED.

A minister was praying, not long ago, for the Lord to give him more faith and settle him down more upon his word, but when the answered came, it came in quite a different way from what he was expecting. For three or four days he had a violent toothache, insomuch that he felt unable to exercise the proper faith to have the Lord stop it. He went to the doctor to have it extracted, but the doctor refused to remove the tooth, stating that if it was filled it would be all right. He then went to a dentist to have the tooth filled, but the dentist had gone to a neighboring town several miles away and would not be back that day. He found he had just about enough money to pay his fare to that town and return, and have his tooth filled, and about the time he was contemplating thus, the Lord began to commune with him, and bring to his mind some of his promises, and that it would be better to trust him for his healing and save the money to pay his fare to another town where the people were anxious to hear the gospel preached.

Upon going to the post office he received a letter, and in it was enclosed a small tract, the first words of which were “HAVE FAITH IN GOD,” printed in large letters. These words seemed to strike him like a flash of lightning, and with it came many precious promises of the Lord. He finally decided to let the Lord have his way with him, and go where the Spirit of the Lord directed, and promised God that he would trust him, and asked for the removal of the pain. Like a flash almost the pain vanished and that was the last of his toothache, and a wonderful lesson had been learned, and not only was his prayer answered at that time, but his former prayer had also been answered by way of settling him upon the word and increasing his faith.

People often pray for an increase of faith, and then sometimes think it an awful thing if the Lord grants an answer to their prayer by permitting them to pass through some severe trial or persecution in order that they may have a good chance to have their faith tried and increased. Children of God can make every trial a means of grace to the soul if they will profit by the same, and learn to count all things joy for Christ’s sake, instead of murmur and complain, which always brings leanness to the soul.

FAITH TESTED.

At a meeting a few months ago a brother requested the children of God to pray that he may have the real gift of faith, and also have the needed humility. The prayer was offered and he felt that God heard and answered prayer in his behalf. In a few hours he was left seemingly without a particle of faith, and soon a very humiliating circumstance took place with him, which at the time did not seem to him, to be the means of helping him along in rejoicing on account of his recent gift of faith. All day long the hours seemed to pass slowly by, while the enemy of his soul tried to bring a flood of accusations against his soul to crush, him which necessitated a close communion with God, who for the time seemed far away.

About the beginning of the evening services while the audience were on their knees in fervent prayer, he saw a piece of paper near by, and reaching for it, the first words were, “have faith in god.” The words seemed to come to him with wonderful power. That was just what he was wanting, and had been searching for all day. The next words were “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but ray words shall not pass away.” These words were followed by, “Are you going to believe His word and move forward upon his promises? or will you doubt and waver for fear He will fail to fulfill his promises?” He saw at once that he even had to take the whole thing by faith, and as he did so, the powers of the enemy were swept away, that were hovering about to discourage his soul, and he could claim the promise, doubting nothing, and the Lord flooded his soul with glory in due time. The prayer that moves God to answer is something more than merely saying words. The faith that holds God to his promises is something more than believing for what is already in our possession. “Have faith in God.” Mark 11:22, and may you ever keep the “faith of the Son of God.” Gal. 2:20.

Dear Trumpet Readers: We are still rejoicing in the Lord, feeling his smiles constantly. The blessed work is still moving on here, but we think the Lord will be through with us here by the 4th of May. How loth we are to leave the dear ones here after spending such a pleasant winter. The Lord bless all the dear saints in Pennsylvania. Some of you we will not see until we meet in heaven. We are so thankful to the Lord for the cooperation of the saints in preparing a boat so practical for the work, yet we

feel a deep need of the prayers of all the saints for the success of the work. There will be an ordinance meeting here the 3d of May, the Lord willing. One German sister who has been gloriously illuminated, is thinking of going to Germany to carry the evening light there. Persecution is becoming of the old style here of late, but it is helping to spread the fire. Four consecrated last night. After May 4th, address us

Dear Trumpet Readers: This morning finds us saved with real victory in our souls. April 13th we went to Ottokee, O., when we were again joined by Bro. Ellis; began meeting in a hall in Ottokee, about four miles from where we held a few months ago, where God saved about twenty souls. Found them all standing faithful, but two or three who had listened to false reports against the children of God, and had been overthrown. On Sunday, April 16, twelve were buried with Christ in baptism. Sunday evening, 22d, had a very precious ordinance meeting, in which nineteen took part, others not getting there soon enough who would have been glad to obey this command. Monday, 23, five more followed Christ into the watery grave. Meeting closed the 26th with real victory for God. There were three others saved during the meeting, and a number of cases of healing. Now there is a precious little church at that place, who are perfectly free from all division, and have regular meetings, with the power of God in their midst. On Friday, 27th, we came to this place, two and one- half miles south of Morenci, Mich., to Bro. Will Kigar’s whom the Lord had saved clear of all sectism, and who had been taking the Trumpet for about three years, but had never been to any meeting in the clear evening light, until the meeting at Fayette a month ago. Meeting began last night with good interest. We expect to continue as long as the Lord leads, then go to Fayette, as there are a number at that place to be baptized; and from there elsewhere as the Lord directs. We ask an interest in the prayers of God’s children to pray for the work he has committed unto us. Yours in the one body,

Dearly Beloved Saints and Trumpet Readers, Greeting: We are glad that we can report once more to you through the TRUMPET, and let you know of our whereabouts, and knowing the room in the columns of the TRUMPET to be precious, I will be as brief as possible. We are still saved and joyful in glory. God is beginning to move with us in power to save and heal. We wish to testify to the glory of God to the healing of our little baby, which is now one month old. When it was about two weeks old it was taken sick and suffered terribly, so wife and I took it to the Lord, claiming the promise that if two agree upon earth as touching any thing, it should be done, and the work was done immediately. But perfect health would only last from about eight to sixteen hours, and then she would take sick again. Thus we fought the fight of faith with the enemy for four or five days, but it seemed as though every attack was worse, although she enjoyed perfect health between the times of sickness. It seemed as if we could not get permanent victory, so we decided the last time she took sick, to let the saints know of it and have them come to our house and have special prayer and anoint for permanent healing, also writing to Bro. Jacobson and Co. the same day, asking them to sign the petition also with their prayers. And we can say to the glory of the God we serve that before the meeting closed the child was again healed, and has been well ever since except a few slight touches of the colic, caused by taking her out in the wine. And besides this God has stretched forth his healing hand to others, and to him we give all the glory. Oh hallelujah to the King of saints!

We also wish to say that we were made to praise the dear Lord for answering our prayers offered, as we sent the call for tracts some time ago. It was answered by sending me a box of holy literature containing one hundred and twenty pounds, and as we had quite a good ways to carry them it seemed to just stir up the eternal weight of glory in our soul as they became heavy on my shoulder. Besides this we have received a good many from different brethren and sisters, to which we say thanks to all and praise to God. We were especially made to thank God for a goodly number of the precious books on Divine Healing, Boy’s Companion, Masonic Salvation, and we do promise the dear Lord that we are going to be more faithful in preaching his word, and labor more earnestly for the spread of the holy reading sent broadcast over the world by the GOSPEL TRUMPET PUB. Co., for we do know that it is the only press that we have ever read an article from that is publishing God’s whole truth to day, without compromise in any way, and we firmly believe it is the only one in the known world. And now dear saints, and especially those that are acquainted with me, I humbly ask your prayers that we may be more humble, and have more wisdom and faith, and be more able to cultivate a meek and gentle spirit than we have ever had before, that we may be more useful in the hands of God in helping to rescue precious souls. Wife and I have learned many dear lessons since coming to Oregon. It does seem we are so dull of learning, that the Lord has to chasten us severely; and I do hope none who read this will have to be dealt with as, severe as I before you will understand what Father wants you to do.

Oh dear brethren and sisters, who when you were unmarried, testified to a dying world that you were called of God to preach his word, and the burning word of God fell from your lips, sinners were convicted and saved, and Zion established in many places, and now since married your reports have stopped, and you almost forgotten — oh remember the callings of God are without repentance! Rom. 11:29. And to you who are contemplating marriage, oh for Jesus’ sake let God do the joining and it will be well done, better than you can do yourself, and you will not be as one tied to a post, but God will use you to put the ten thousand to flight.

From your brother and sister, all consecrated to do or be anything for God. Hallelujah!

Dearly Beloved Brethren and Sisters in Christ: It has been some time since I have reported through the TRUMPET. But I have not been idle; we have had many precious meetings this winter in which there has been much good done in the name of Jesus, in the salvation of souls and the healing of the body. There have been some wonderful cases of healing in this country since I came to this place, for which we give God all the glory. When I came here last winter I found that the church here had suffered a great deal on account of one certain one doing some crooked work and teaching here, such as laying on hands for healing and telling the parties that they might continue to take the doctor’s medicine, and calling others of God’s people fanatics for standing firm on the truth. Now the result of this was, some of the church were deceived to such an extent that they seemed to think it was just a matter of choice whether they took the Lord for their physician or not. It took a great deal of teaching on the line of faith to get the church down to a real Bible standard, but we are happy to report that the dear ones were willing to measure up to the word, and are now abounding in faith once delivered to the saints, and the church settled down deeper than ever before, and the work is spreading in this country. God has a good many people in this country now, standing on the sea of glass. We have held meeting in several places in this surrounding country with good success. Now dear brethren, let us practice what we preach. If you preach divine healing (and you will if you preach a full gospel) you must be where you can trust God for your physician; and if you are not where these signs do follow you, according to the word of God, you need to tarry at Jerusalem until you are endowed with power from on high. You will have power over all the power of the enemy. Dear Bro. Masters is now with us, whom the Lord is using much in preaching his word. He will soon start east to the June camp meeting, Mich., the Lord willing. We would love very much to meet with you all at the camp meeting but we feel that the Lord wants us to go west this summer. I do feel that the Lord is moving on us to go to the western coast and labour for him at the present time. I have a call from California, and those dear ones are very anxious to hear the word of God, but have not the money to send for us, now I believe that the Lord wants us to go. We are trusting in a mighty God, and he is able to provide. So we expect to start soon in the name of Jesus, and we believe that he will take us through. We will stop along the line and hold meeting as the Lord leads. Will hold some meetings in the west part of this state. And if any one between here and the coast desires us to come and hold meeting, please notify me at Hollenberg, Kan. We remain your brother and sister, sanctified wholly.

Dear Saints of God: We do praise the Lord for his wonderful loving kindness to us and for keeping us saved. We came to this place April 7, and began meeting in the name of the Lord. From the first the Lord gave us victory. There were a number of consecrations the first meeting. This was held at a private house. The next day being Lord’s day, we went to a large school house near and then continued the meeting for two weeks, closing last Sunday night with shouts, glad hallelujahs and songs of victory. Blessing, praise and all honor be to the name of our God forever! There were quite a number of people in the community professing to be sanctified, and would so testify at the beginning of the meeting, but as the standard of sanctification as it is in God’s word, was lifted up, all or nearly so found that they were not there, the honest ones then went down and got the real experience, while some, seemingly the brightest, and giving the heartiest amens and praising the Lord, began to fight the truth joining hands and going back in their sects to do it, and were cut off. Oh how sad! Now drunk again on the wine of Babylon and in all probability gone forever. Some that were claiming to be sanctified fell short of justification according to the word. Eight dear souls followed the Savior in baptism. We held an ordinance meeting at the close of the meeting, and thirteen as our Lord and Master commanded, washed one another’s feet. Bro’s John E. Dye, James E. Shaw, and Wesley Gay were ordained elders in the church of God. There were several cases of healing. Praise our God! The Lord has established his church here, calling Bro. Gay to be overseer of the flock, and setting Bro. Gary in it as deacon, to which office he was ordained. Dear ones, do pray for us; there is so little done in this south land. Pray to help the people out of Babylon, and for the church here, that the glorious work may go on that the Lord has begun here. The Lord bless and reward the dear people here for the kindness and help they have extended to us. Bro. Campbell goes back over into South Carolina and I the Lord willing will remain over here with Bro. Shaw a few days.

Dear Saints of the Living God: May heaven’s richest blessings rest on you all. My testimony is that I am sweetly saved in Jesus, and the very God of peace sanctifies me wholly, and my soul is fat and flourishing. Praise the Lord! I am feasting on the good of the land. Hallelujah! Oh it is wonderful what God has in store for those who love and obey him. We closed meeting at Thurford and came back to Levant and held a few meetings, and then came here. Yesterday we had a very precious ordinance meeting. Seven dear souls were buried with Christ in baptism, and in the evening we observed the other ordinances of God’s house, and the Lord did own and bless his obedient children. There were many hungry souls at Thurford. Some came eight and ten miles to hear the Word, but would not yield and give their hearts to God. Some at Levant made a start, but drew back and would not pay the price. And others here consecrated, but when it came to the ordinances, they drew back and would not obey all the ordinances. Jesus said, “No man having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” Luke 9:62. Now the just shall live by faith, but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. Heb. 10:38. But God has a blessed little church established here, and also at Levant. And if any of God’s fire baptized ministers should happen along here, they are requested to stop off at both of these places. Our hearts were made glad by the coming of Bro. Michael Stover, Jr. He was with us, and the Lord used him in giving the Word to the people, and he assisted in the ordinance meeting. He took his leave this morning for eastern Nebraska and Missouri. The weather is still very dry here, and there is no prospect for a wheat crop this year. We expect to go from here into the country near Quickville post office, eighteen miles north-west of here, and then go wherever the Lord may lead us. All who wish meeting in western Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado will please address us at Levant, Kan. Yours in Jesus,

M. M. Stover.

Dear Saints and Trumpet Readers: May the dear Lord bless and keep your precious souls ever so that you may continually abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Realizing, dear ones, that God is our habitation, we fear no evil, for if he is for us, who can be against us? Babylon claims the nearer you get to God the more temptations, and therefore their excuse for keeping as far away as possible. But be that as it may, dear ones, I declare to you on the authority of God’s word, that the nearer we get to God, the stronger the defense; and the more time you spend with God, the less you have to waste on the devil. Therefore let us draw nigh to God and he will draw nigh to us.

Truly God has been very kind to me in bringing me to this place. As I told you in my first testimony, I was on my way to the Congo, west Africa, as a missionary, when God put his finger down before me and called a halt; and I could not understand why, I testified to being out of all sectism, to being sanctified and dead to everything else besides Christ, and thought therefore I was a fit subject for God to use all to his own glory. But after getting under the influence of the pure word of God, I found that although being out of all sectism, it was not by any means all out of me, and I was brim full of it yet; and also that my sanctification was nothing but justification, and last of all I found that I had all this time been playing “possum,” and as soon as the Holy Ghost fire was applied to my soul I found I was as much alive as ever. And for three weeks the Lord has kept me in the crucible until the last nail was driven.

I was willing to do anything for God or go anywhere but to Germany, my own native land, and tried to compromise with the Lord on that, but all to no avail. So finally after God showing me that it made no difference where I was buried after I was dead, I plunged into Jordan, the waters gave way, and to day finds me not only on the bank of Canaan, but I am going deeper and deeper into the interior, and my soul is delighted and flourishes in fatness to show to the world that the Lord is upright. Glory to Jesus! Now I realize that I am purified, and made white and just being tried. Praise the Lord for the trying, so that I may say when this race is run, I have fought a good fight,

I have kept the faith. And now the Lord is going to let me go into the vineyard, which means Germany for me, and I just realize that it is the only place I want to go to, and by the time that you receive this I expect to be with Bro. Rupert, the Lord willing. And I realize and know what it means; it means more to go to that country with the everlasting gospel than to go to the Congo with Baal’s theology. And we earnestly desire the prayers of every one of God’s little ones, and thereby hold the ropes while we descend into the deep and proclaim unto the world that there is a God in Zion who neither slumbers nor sleeps, nor ever goes on a journey. A God that not only hears but also answers the prayers of all that come unto him and will not bow a knee to Baal. Surely, dear ones, the cry comes strongly from Macedonia for to come over to help them. Now your Macedonia may be your next door neighbor. Are you doing all for Christ that he wants you to do?

We are very thankful over here for the pure and holy literature the dear ones are sending from time to time, and God only knows and that great day will only reveal the souls that a dollar or two in such literature has brought to the light. Well dear ones, may the dear Lord just fold you closer and closer, and sink us deeper and deeper into the storehouse of faith, is the prayer of your brother in the one body, where he justifies me freely, sanctifies me through and through, and keeps me constantly in sweet fellowship with the dear saints here, by and through the power of Him whose seal we bear. Rev. 9:4. Your brother,

J. R. Neville.

Dear Trumpet Readers: I am praising God this morning for a full and free salvation. God is wonderfully blessing his little church that he has planted here. We are holding three prayer meetings each week in the name of the Lord. I can say this morning I am saved and sanctified through the blood of Jesus. Pray for me that I may ever stay low and humble at the feet of Jesus, and be led by his Spirit all the time. Your brother in Christ,

Dear Saints Abroad: I wish to add my testimony to the all cleansing and healing power of God, through our Lord Jesus Christ. I have been troubled with heart disease for over twenty- five years, and felt for a while that the disease was of too long standing to try for my healing. But in March, 1894, the Lord sent Bro. E. F. Houghton to our place to hold meetings, and I felt the Lord would have me obey the fifth of James. I was anointed and healed. All glory to the Rock of our salvation. I am sixty-two years old and feel that God has greatly honored me in my old age. Yours in bonds of love,

A CALL FOR SERVANTS.

_____

IN the days of David at the building of the temple the work was very great, and there was much need of workers; and after David had gathered together the material, the gold for things that be of gold, and silver for things that be of silver, then it was necessary that the people should work to build the house of the Lord. And David says, “Who then is willing to consecrate his service this day unto the Lord?”

That was in the building of a house of stone and wood and gold and silver. There is a house to day in process of building. It is the house of God, and built out of living stones; and God is calling for servants. He wants willing servants, every one that can lend a hand to carry on the great work of the Lord. And again he is calling servants to work in his vineyard, and you have the promise of your pay when the work is done. There is much work to be done in the gathering in the harvest of souls, and we are now in the last hours of the day. But the harvest is great and the laborers are few; so to every one that will work, God has promised the penny. “Who then is ready to consecrate his service this day unto the Lord?”

But how many do as the people did that were bidden to the feast; they all with one consent begin to make excuse. One has bought a piece of land, another, five yoke of oxen, and another married him a wife, therefore he cannot come; and they all beg to be excused. Another wants to get settled in life, then he will be ready to serve the Lord. But the Lord says, Take no thought for the morrow. Matt. 6:31. And another says, I am too poor; if I had a home and was out of debt, then I would give my heart to God. Jesus says, Matt. 6:33, But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. Another says, I am too young. God says, Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them.

Another very common excuse is, I want to sow my wild oats first. But beware, for Paul says in Gal. 6:7, 8, Be not deceived, God is not mocked; for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to the flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption, but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Also Prov. 11:18 — The wicked worketh a deceitful work, but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward. Hos. 8:7, — For they have sown the wind and shall reap the whirlwind. 10:12, 13 — Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy, break up the fallow ground, for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteousness upon you. Ye have plowed wickedness and ye have reaped iniquity, ye have eaten the fruit of lies, because thou didst trust in thy way. And another, thinking he has a long life before him says, “Time enough yet.” But we have no promise of the morrow; we do not even know that we shall see the morrow. Therefore God says, Now is the accepted time, behold now is the day of salvation. 2 Cor. 6:2.

And another, realizing his great unworthiness, says, I am too great a sinner. To such the Lord says, But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy and not sacrifice, for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. — Matt. 9:13. Another says, I am not convicted enough. Well if you are not, go to seeking it; ask and it shall be given you, seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you; for every one that seeketh findeth, and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Matt. 7:7, 8. And another, I have sinned away my day of grace. But Jesus says, Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men, but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. Paul says the unpardonable sin is, counting the blood of the everlasting covenant wherewith ye were sanctified, an unholy thing.

Another poor soul will say; If I had faith I would come and serve the Lord. The Lord, says, If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink. Again he says, Or what man is there of you whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give good things to them that ask him. Matt. 7:9-11. Also he says, If ye had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, Be thou removed, and it should be done. What is the grain of mustard seed like? He says though it be the smallest of all seeds, when it is planted it grows up until it is a great tree, and the birds lodge in the branches. So then if your faith be as small as the smallest seed, if you plant it in the rich soil of God’s love it will grow until it becomes a great tree, which is a figure of its strength. And Paul says, 2 Thess. 1:3, We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth. Again Paul says in Gal. 5, faith worketh by love.

Still another’s excuse is, It is such a despised way. God says in Deut. 7:6, 7, For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God; the Lord thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. The Lord did not set his love upon you nor choose you because you were more in number than any people, for ye were the fewest of all people. And yet another excuse, I can’t hold out. Jesus says in John 10:28, 29, My sheep hear my voice and I know them, and they follow me, and I give unto my sheep eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

So you see dear ones, you are left without excuse, and in the last judgment you will see how unwise you have been. May the Lord help you to forsake your excuses and turn to him. Yours in Jesus,

Allie R. Fisher.

Washington, Ia., April 18, 1894.

Dear Trumpet Readers: Last spring a tree fell on me and broke my leg just below the knee. A doctor was called who claimed to set the bone, but after five weeks I found the bones had not yet begun to knit together, so another doctor was called, and after three more weeks it was again examined and found to be in the same condition, making no progress. I then began to realize my spiritual condition, and that I was away from God. I began to pray, and had a letter written to the GOSPEL TRUMPET for the prayers of God’s children for my healing. At that very time the bones began to knit together and the Lord has healed the bone and I now can walk. There seems to be some poison in the flesh yet and the injured parts are still swollen. Please pray for me that it may be all removed.

GOD HEARETH NOT SINNERS.

_____

Now we know that God heareth not sinners, but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth. Jno. 9:31. Job. 35:12. — There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men. Psa. 66:18-20. — If I regard iniquity in my heart the Lord will not hear me. But verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer or his mercy from me. Godly sorrow worketh repentance. Now when we begin to feel sorry because of our sins, we begin to quit sinning, and will stop our wicked ways and tell the Lord we are sorry that we sinned against him and his word, and begin to pray for ourselves. I acknowledged my sins unto thee, and my iniquities have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. — Psalms 32:5.

God’s word is full of precious promises for those who will walk uprightly, and put their trust in the Lord. Praise the Lord for his word and his Spirit, which are to convict and show us our sins. When I began to feel God’s Spirit striving with me, and showing me that I was a sinner in the sight of God, I quit my sinning, and told God that I was sorry I had sinned against him, and God forgave my sins for Jesus’ sake. I was born again and made happy in the Savior’s love. I knew that Jesus’ blood had washed me white as snow and that my name was written in heaven. And then I presented my body a living sacrifice, and God sanctified my nature, and filled me with his Spirit, which is to guide us into all truth. The Lord has also healed me of bodily afflictions, for which I give him all the praise. I trust these few lines will be accepted as from the Lord, and be a benefit to some soul.

Your saved sister under the blood,

Lenora Gahman.

BEWARE OF FALSE PROPHETS.

_____

“But there were false prophets among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.” — 2 Pet. 2:1, 2. How truly we see the above scriptures being fulfilled at the present time. The popular religion of to day, such as the world courts is not the religion of Christ. The plain simple style as was taught and practiced by our Savior and his disciples, is too humiliating for the fashionable, aristocratic, so called, Christians, of the present time. While a few faithful followers who are endeavoring to follow Jesus in the meek humble manner, as taught by him, are despised and ridiculed and persecuted by worldly professors. In Jno. 10:4, 5, we read, And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice; and a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him, for they know not the voice of strangers.

O dear ones, it is sad to look around us and see so many who know not the true shepherd, and are following the voice of strangers, following after fashionable preachers, and with itching ears are anxiously grasping for any doctrine that will do away with a future punishment, or exempt them from an humble obedience to Christ or justify them in their carnal pleasure, and save them in their sins, and thereby ease a guilty conscience being seared as with a hot iron. Should any one chance to read this who has been influenced by such doctrines, let me say, Beware, beware! for most surely it is a trick of the devil designed to ease your guilty conscience, lull you to sleep and land you forever in hell. Let me warn you, dear reader, not to accept any doctrine no matter how popular, that does not agree with God’s word. Do not risk your immortal soul on such a rotten foundation. In Jno. 10:8, 9, Christ says, All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door: by me if any man enter in he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

Yours in Christ,

D. C. Engle.

Dear Saints of God: I am praising God for salvation full and free. I rejoice to know that I am saved, justified and sanctified, and satisfied. Praise the Lord! God has done wonderful things for me, for which I shall ever give him all the glory. Oh give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good, for his mercy endureth forever. It doesn’t seem to be the will of the Lord at present to give me as much strength in body as I used to have, to do much hard work. I can say, The will of the Lord be done. I feel that I am all given up to the Lord to do as he wills. Praise his holy name! Dear ones, pray much for me. From your humble sister,

Dear Saints of God: I send much love in Jesus to you all. I do praise God for victory in my soul over all the world, and every idol of every kind. I have strong faith in the Lord. He keeps me daily, free from all sin. As the poet says “I will no longer doubt thee, O Lord, I will forever stand on thy word.” The people can talk about me and call me just what they please, but praise the Lord, that just makes me grow stronger in the Lord. I am so thankful that I am out in this blessed evening light. I ask all the saved ones to pray for me that I may be kept saved, and live for the Lord. Dear Saints: I feel led of the Lord, to write my testimony for the first time. The Lord has saved me from sin. I joined the Baptist sect when I was little over fifteen years of age. I lived with them for about five years, and I never knew what joy was in my soul till I came out from them. I praise the dear Lord for ever sending his ministers here to show us the blessed evening light. I know the dear Lord has saved me from sin and keeps me every day. Praise his holy name! I desire an earnest interest in the prayers of God’s people. I am willing to do any thing that the Lord requires of me. I intend to live for the dear Lord the rest of my life, long or short. Dearly Beloved in Christ: I am still praising God for victory over the enemy. Oh praise the dear Lord for the strength and comfort that I have received from Jas 4:7. I thank God that the precious blood of Jesus saves us from our sins, and not in them. Hallelujah! How precious the thought that we are standing upon the Rock, Christ Jesus, and that we all may recline on the strong arm of God, secure in this beautiful haven of rest. Oh for a closer walk with God! Beloved, in the one body there is one important point which I pray God you may earnestly heed; viz., The trick of the devil in trying to get God’s little ones to imitate another who may have an older and better experience than themselves, by trying to get their experience. I thank God for victory on this line. May God help us to remember that Jesus is the standard and true pattern, by which we are to be measured. Glory to his holy name forever! Let us continually watch and pray. When the dear Lord sends one of his fire brands among us with a soul full of glory and a grand experience, let us thank God for it and remember that the glory is all the Lord’s. Let us watch the devil closely on this point in order that we do not become puffed up or heady. We should not try to get the experience of another but see to it that we have one of our own. 2 Cor. 10;12. Praise God forever! I thank God that he sent a deep conviction upon me and that I was made to fall upon my knees before him and cry out for mercy. Am trusting God for all! My prayer is that all who read this may profit thereby. Pray also for our dear relatives and friends that their prejudice may cease, and that some of them at least, may get saved. Yours, under the blood, saved and sanctified wholly,

Sylvester Moore.

Gospel Trumpet Readers and Saints of God: I want to say a word for my Savior. He has wonderfully blessed me. Praise him forever! I have been afflicted many years; doctors could not name my disease nor find the cause. I took unconcious spells several times aday. My parents spent several hundred dollars on me, but nothing did me any good. For three years my health has been miserable; could not work all day without lying down and resting. I always believed God could heal us and thought he would heal me sometime, but kept taking medicine and relying on earthly physicians.

Brother Schell held a series of meetings at our place several weeks ago and I was persuaded to take God for my physician, and praise his name he has healed me. My symptoms are not all gone but are wearing away, and I know I am well. I have not felt bad since I was anointed in the name of the Lord. I have been able to do my work without lying down. March 28, Bro’s Warren and Speck anointed my eyes, and they have not hurt me any since; I can now read without hurting them. Surely God has wonderful power. I have taken him for my all in all, and no one could persuade me to use medicine in any way again. I am so glad God sent some of his ministering angels to persuade me to put my trust in him, and enjoy this blessed evening light. I was a member of the M. E. Church several years and tried to live a true Christian, but praise God, I have a brighter and better experience now, and belong wholly to God. Pray for me that I may always live fully consecrated to his will and be dead to the sins and follies of this world. I have many loved ones that do not enjoy salvation, and ask all of God’s children to pray for them. May God see fit to send some one here to hold a meeting this summer. I feel that a great deal of good can be done. Praise the Lord forever!

Your happy sister in Christ,

Minnie J. Hill.
