A Refrain.

_____

Softly, softly o’er time’s mead,
Upward doth his Spirit lead;
Touched by powers of love divine,
Hope’s sweet blossoms round me twine.
Brighter than the light of day,
Fairer than the moon-beam’s ray
Shines God’s light within my soul,
Ever pointing to life’s goal.

While these lonely scenes I press,
May its luster ne’er grow less;
But when eventide draws near
May it burn more soft and clear;
As, when day’s departing beams
Thro’ the glooming casting gleams,
Flecks with mellow light, the sky,
While the passing shadows fly;

So, may life’s receding sun
When its twilight has begun,
Falling thro’ faith’s telescope
Gently down its western slope,
Gild with peace, the vale I tread,
Flood with glory all o’erhead,
Till I pass — where still he leads —
To those grand, eternal meads.

STRONG TRUTH.

_____

Have you not heard a leading Methodist “divine” cry out, “We must no longer call the Roman Catholic Church, ‘the mother of harlots;’ she is the mother of all our orthodoxy”? Or Presbyterian, “Let us no longer antagonize Rome, but cooperate with her as a sister church, etc.?”

Have you not discerned that for the work of righteousness in the earth, for the mission of the Son of God, Protestantism is also a failure? A prolific cause of infidelity and ungodliness?

But God has wrung testimonies from anti-Christian hirelings. Hear “Bishop” Foster, a man whose office, authority and orthodoxy are chiefly borrowed from Rome: — “The church of God (?) is to day courting the world. Its members are trying to bring it down to the level of the ungodly. The ball, the theatre, nude and lewd art, social luxuries, with all their loose moralities, are making inroads into the church: * * * the church goes to shows and frolics and festivals and fairs which destroy the spiritual life of the young as well as the old. The extent to which this is carried on is appalling. The spiritual death it carries in its train will only be known when the millions it has swept into hell stand before the judgment.”

“A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit.” “By their fruits ye shall know them.”

The Romish church is not a Christian institution, the assembly of God, nor is any protestant church, nor any other organization ever effected by man.

The assembly of God, of Christ, is a company, each of whom has been born of God, saved from sin, anointed with the Spirit of God.

As a protestant, as a Baptist, your own garments are not free from iniquity. In going out to inspect the Romish church you have shut your eyes to corruption in the Baptist church. In exposing sinners in the Roman confession you have accepted the persons of sinners in the Baptist communion. In crying out against the lecherous Romish priest you have hushed your voice in the presence of the adulterous protestant clergyman.

No intelligent citizen can plead ignorance of the fact that all the sins and crimes found in the Romish church are found in varying degrees and conditions in the protestant churches.

“Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? Who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands and a pure heart, who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity nor sworn deceitfully.”

That crusade against iniquity which does not begin at home, at the house of God, is a vanity. That zeal for souls that does not see death as the wages of sin, the fruit of carnality, first among associates and friends, is deceitful in the extreme.

The sins of those whom you fraternize are upon you, and your garments are not free from the uncleanness to which you close your eyes.

“Thou shalt not in any wise suffer sin upon thy brother.”

Expose with equal faithfulness the sins hidden among protestants, the iniquities and carnal practices common among Baptists, and you shall be honored of God in the fulfillment of all his promises, you shall be glorified with belief of all his word.

If you rejoice any less in the exposures of iniquities existing and concealed among protestants and Baptists, your zeal is evidently hypocritical and deceitful.

I was reared among Baptists and worked twenty years in connection with Baptist churches; I have worked with hundreds of preachers of other denominations. I have found as “Bishop” Foster declares, “A hireling ministry, will be a feeble, a timid, a truckling, a time-serving ministry, without faith, endurance and Holy Power;” and that includes about all there is of ungodliness. Yet the protestant churches have no other ministry than a hireling ministry whom Jesus described.

A large proportion of the protestant clergy, although they are married, walk in adulterous lusts, and very many of them in adulterous practices. Most of them are consumed with pride, self admiration, worldly conformity, love of praise, covetousness, envies, jealousies and unholy ambitions.

These iniquities and abominations exist everywhere in protestant churches. Members have come to property by fraud and dishonesty; adulterers and adulteresses hide themselves there without fear of disgrace; bigamists and perjurers and murderers are concealed there; mothers who slay their unborn children, and their partners and abetters in crime find respectability there.

Over this mass of corruption the clergyman stands guard to shut out the Son of God who ever comes with his fan in his hand to separate the chaff from the wheat, to “purge the sons of Levi,” to expose sin, bring to confession, repentance and salvation.

By all these things the protestant clergy prove themselves, also, strangers to that grace, that gift of God which has appeared to all men to reveal iniquity and bring forth out of a sinful world, a people purified, sanctified and kept blameless and spotless unto the coming of the Lord.

In time of revival every pastor takes out his dark lantern and throws light over the dead bodies that strew the dark way of the sect till he can glorify himself with a few more converts, and add a few more subjects to his church. Then the light is again concealed, and pastor and people go on in darkness together.

But the gospel of Jesus, the anointed, is of a perpetual revival, of the power of God among men to reveal and wash away all iniquities, to uncover every deceit, to expose every deceiver, to call out an assembly of chosen ones against whom the gates of hell shall not prevail to impose upon them one deceit, or one unrighteous associate, the company of “the very elect.”

Every pastor knows that many of his church members have no just hope of eternal life, yet he encourages them to believe that some benefit will accrue to them through the church, while they contribute to its support and partake of its ordinances — only a thin solution of the Romish doctrine that the church has all power to save, for money forgives sin, grants extreme unction, etc.

Assent to dogmas is substituted for that faith by which the righteous live; confession of a creed is made more important than possession of eternal life, a greater virtue than the courage of conviction.

To you, my dear brother, and to all other clergymen, catholic and protestant, by the authority of the Holy Spirit, I declare those good things which I have received of God.

There is salvation from sin unto a holy life only by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit as in the beginning, only by abiding in that Christ, that Anointing, who is to us the Spirit of Life, teaching us each, all things, guiding us each into all truth, so that we need no man to teach us, nor any of the offices of man-chosen, man- honored, man-employed priests or clergy.

No church ever organized by man from the catholic to the last and least of all her daughters, has any authority or power from God to do anything else than to fulfill prophecy as the man of sin, the anti-christ.

The evil tree has brought forth no good fruit, her orthodoxy and her practices are of the father of lies, doctrines devils, to misrepresent the way of life.

“Have ye received the Holy Spirit since ye believed?” is the crucial question for the new-born for all time; and “as many as are led of the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God,” is the test of life.

The Testimony.

__________

THE BLASPHEMY AGAINST THE HOLY GHOST. MATT. 12:31.

_____

I have had the conviction for some time that the Lord would have me write an article concerning the sin against the Holy Spirit, as there are some who accuse myself and others of having committed this sin because we say that this shaking, jerking, dancing, falling down, and wallowing in the dirt by a class of professors, is not of God but is of the devil. And now we shall proceed to see what this sin is, by an explanation of Heb. 6:3-6.

1st. “For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened.” That is, convicted, as we read in John 1:9 that Christ was the true light, which lighteth (convicteth) every man that cometh into the world.

2d. “Have tasted of the heavenly gift.” That is, pardoned, or as Paul says in Rom. 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death; but the GIFT of God is ETERNAL LIFE through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Yes, made alive, Eph. 2:5, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened [made alive] us together with Christ (by grace [the gift] are ye saved).

3d. “Made partakers of the Holy Ghost.” The witness of justification. Rom. 8:15, 16. “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear: but ye have received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our Spirit, that we are the children of God.”

4th. “And have tasted of the good word of God.” Sanctification. Hence Jesus says, “Sanctify them through thy TRUTH, thy word is TRUTH.” Jno. 17:17.

5th. “And the powers of the world to come.” The witness to sanctification. Hence we read in the Acts 1:8, “But ye shall receive POWER after that the HOLY GHOST is come upon you.” And Heb. 10:14, 15. “For by one offering he hath perfected forever, them that are sanctified, whereof the HOLY GHOST also is a WITNESS to us.”

Now we have proven from the scripture under consideration that there are five points met in obtaining an experience of full salvation; and in verses 4, 6, of Heb. 6, we read, “it is impossible, if they fall away, to renew them again unto repentance, seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.” Now, some one might ask, Fall away from what? Answer, — from the foregoing — the five steps. Now to fall away from them all, the lowest being conviction, it is certainly impossible to renew them to repentance, if they fall below the the point of Bible conviction. But all do not fall below the line of true conviction that commit sin. Hence all that have not committed the willful sin spoken of by Paul in Heb. 10:26 may again expect to be renewed unto repentance, as they have only fallen back to the first step, which is conviction. But when they commit the unpardonable sin or the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, they fall below conviction, and hence there remains no more sacrifice for sin.

Now we will see if we can find out just what the willful sin is, spoken of in Heb. 10:26. From this scripture, some persons suppose that after they have been sanctified, if they were to commit willful sin they cannot be reclaimed. We find an explanation of what this willful sin must be, for it is not every willful sin after we are sanctified that there is no more forgiveness for; because we cannot commit any other sin but willful, which is accounted to us as a sin. Hence we read in Rom. 4:15 and 5:13, for where no law is there is no transgression. “But sin is not imputed where there is no law.” Again in 1 Jno. 3:4, we read, “sin is the transgression of the law,” and a law that is not known is not a law. Therefore, transgression of the law must be willful, and it follows that every sin that we have committed, is a willful sin.

Now to verse 29, “Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant wherewith he was sanctifified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite to the Spirit of grace?” Now we see just what the unpardonable or willful sin is, for which there remaineth no more sacrifice. It is, “to count the blood of the covenant wherewith we are sanctified an unholy thing, and to do despite to the Spirit of grace,” or it is attributing the power of the Holy Spirit which operates upon us in conviction, regeneration, sanctification, and in the healing of our bodies, to the power of the devil. Hence we read in Mark 3:22-30, and the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, “He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.” “And he called them unto him and said, * * * verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme. But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:” “Because they said, He had an unclean spirit.” I thought that no one only those who were sanctified could commit the unpardonable, sin. But in reading Matt. 12:11, the word “whosoever” is used, which means any person; and now, as we have seen, to attribute to the devil the workings of the Holy Spirit, is to commit the sin against the Holy Spirit.

Now in the name of Jesus I warn every soul to be careful how they use their tongues in speaking, or attributing the manifestations of the Spirit, to the devil. 1 Cor. 12:7-11. Hear this, oh you despiser of holiness, — 1 Thess. 4:7, 8, “For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man but God.” Now there are professors and even preachers that despise the present holiness reformation that is now sweeping over the world. They say that it is of the devil and a damnable heresy. Now my friend, you had better be silent than to send your own soul to hell, where the worm dieth not and the fire is not quenched. But the devil on the other hand keeps a good many persons out of the kingdom by telling them that they have committed the unpardonable sin. But if you have any conviction or desire to be saved, do not believe him, for they who have trodden under foot the Son of God, Heb. 10:29. have done despite unto the Spirit of grace; hence there remains no more sacrifice for sins, and instead of conviction a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. Verse 27.

I trust that God will keep all of his little ones true to him and his cause, so that they may not do despite to the Spirit of grace or bring a reproach upon his holy cause. Amen.

Your brother in Christ, filled with the Holy Spirit,

A. A. Kinzie.

Dear Saints of God: I thank God that he keeps me saved and rejoicing in his love. It is blessed to trust the Lord for the keeping of both soul and body. When the Lord showed me my condition I died to this world and its pleasures. Old things passed away and everything became new. I want to say a word for Jesus, that he has healed me at different times. About three weeks ago I suffered with a severe pain, it appeared at my heart, I could hardly turn myself in bed. I took it to the Lord in prayer, and trusted him as I did with my soul. The pain immediately left, and I got up and went out to work, and it has never hurt me since. I give God all the praise both now and forever. Dear saints, all pray for me, that I may keep low and humble at the feet of Jesus. Your brother in Christ,

F. J. Huffman.

THE CHILDREN’S HOME AND SCHOOL.

_____

Dear Children of God: We are glad to greet you again in Jesus’ name. He gives us still a deep rest of the soul, keeps us from all sin, and gives complete victory over the power of the devil. The work at school has passed by very well, and we look back on the winter’s work with the satisfaction of God’s approval of our past labor. He has rewarded us a thousand fold for all we sacrificed for the work. The Lord has been moving upon hearts even to the last of the term, in convicting, saving and establishing the dear children. God blessed the exercises on the last day with a feeling of sacred solemnity on the hearts of those present. One man present, remarked afterwards that he was so much under conviction while there that he could hardly stand it. He gave his heart to the Lord that evening. After exercises closed the school marched down to the grave of their schoolmate, “Little Belle,” and sang a few hymns, after which a number of the larger pupils went back to the schoolroom where God poured out his Spirit in a precious meeting. A young lady who came to visit the school, was deeply convicted and was gloriously saved.

While we realize the hand of God at work on the camp ground we see that the powers of darkness are arrayed in great forces to defeat the work of God, but we feel like holding on to God in prevailing prayer for the welfare of the work there, and dear souls. Bro. Michels intends taking a number of the children to the surrounding towns occasionally, having then? sing on the streets, the beautiful songs of Zion, and testifying of the wonders of salvation. A number of trips have been taken with good results. We see the great good that can be accomplished by consecrated children alive to the work and dead to self. Pray much for the children and the workers at the Home.

Your saved brother, kept by power divine, sanctified and satisfied,

Clarence H. Dewey.

Gospel Trumpet: Since our last report we have been in meetings, mostly in Washington Co., Ind. Just closed Sunday with a baptismal service. Eleven were buried with Christ and arose rejoicing in him who is the “way, the truth and the life.” Others would have been baptized had they been ready. Quite a number in that- part have been justified and a few were sanctified. Many are favorable to the truth, and some are seeking for the real experience. May God help them to find the pearl of great price. We expect to be at the camp meeting, the Lord willing. Yours for God,

Dear Saints: I am glad to report victory for Jesus. I am saved and happy on the way to heaven. We held a meeting May 5, and 6, at the Shepherd school house in Kemper, Miss. Two were buried with Christ in baptism. The attendance was large, and good interest was manifested in the meeting. Several stood up for prayer, that they might be delivered from all sin. I wish to announce that there will be a protracted meeting to commence July 14, 1894 at Bro. L. Jim Watkins’ school house, Neshoba Co., Miss. and holding as long as the Lord wills. Also from there we go to the Shepherd school house, Kemper Co., July 28, to hold meeting. A meeting will commence at Edinburg, Leake Co., Miss., Aug. 11, and also a meeting will be held at Renfroe, Leake Co., Miss., commencing Aug. 25. Bro. R. H. Owens and Bro. J. B. Ducksworth, expect to be with us if the Lord wills, in the above stated meetings, and if any brother, or brother and sister feel led of the Lord to come and help us in those meetings, we will be glad for them to come. And if they have not the means to come on, address me at Union, Neshoba Co., Miss., or Centralia, Neshoba Co., Miss., and we will try and help them to come. Yours in Christ,

Pellston, Mich., June 5, 1894.

Dear Trumpet Readers: Since we last wrote we held a two weeks meeting in Petoskey. The Lord wonderfully blessed us in delivering the truth. We closed the meeting with an unanimous invitation for our return. Our meeting there was in the most unfavorable time of the season, right in planting time, and the evenings short and the people tired, we could not begin the meeting any night until eight o’clock, which did not give much chance for salvation work. A great many of the people were working hard. But the house was quite well filled every night. There is a grand opening for the gospel at that place in the future. The house was formerly owned by the Baptists, but the Baptist preacher failing to get his pay for preaching he delivered the house to the officers and it was sold at auction. The man that bought it gave the Baptists a chance to buy it back. If they do not buy it, he told me he intended to keep it and it should be used for the Lord. We came from there to Pellston and held a few meetings there, but felt impressed to go to Levering, the next station north. We went last Saturday; bad three meetings in the M. E. house. Went into the country to visit a sick lady; she was saved and healed; also a lady who was working for her was reclaimed from a backslidden state. We had a blessed melting time. We returned to Levering and visited another sick lady. She gave her heart to God, also her husband and little boy about twelve years old gave their hearts to the Lord and there was a general time of rejoicing. We found many hungry souls that received the word gladly, and one dear soul got out of Babylon. We bade them good bye this morning, with many invitations for our return later in the season. There are many grand openings through this country for meetings, and many hungry souls waiting to be fed with the living bread. Yours in Jesus, under the blood,

Allie R. Fisher
and Della Gardner.

Adville, Ala., May 31, 1894.

Greeting, to all readers of the GOSPEL TRUMPET. God bless you all. We are truly thankful that we can again report that Jesus is keeping us saved to the uttermost, with perfect victory in our souls over all the power of sin and Satan. He also is filling our souls with the eternal weight of glory, that is reserved for all those who are patient in all things (yea, in every thing give thanks), and strictly obedient to. his Word. To his precious name be all the glory. God is also giving glorious victory and success in the work in these parts. After Bro. Lundy left us at Getup, Ala. to return to Tenn. there were three or our conversions. The last day of the meeting seven were baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. After baptizing we returned to the school house, where some sixteen or eighteen children of God followed the example of our Lord by washing one another’s feet. Then by eating the bread and drinking the wine we commemorated the crucifixion scene, where the precious body of Jesus was broken, and his blood shed for the redemption of our souls. During the meeting, just before we began to wash feet, we offered the altar and one soul professed pardon. Truly it was a blessed day to our souls. The next day came to Arab, Ala., where the pure gospel in the even ing light had never been preached. There was much prejudice at the begining of the meeting, and the congregations were small. They had heard we were Mormons, and many other things not true, but the few began to relish the truth, and the congregation increased until the house would not hold all. There were some four or six converted. May God keep the few who gave their hearts to Jesus. There were a few in the community who would not attend the meeting. We arrived at this place about nine o’clock last night. Expect to begin meeting to night in the name of the Lord. The pure gospel in the evening light has never been preached here. Pray for us, that God may use us in spreading this pure gospel, and saving many souls. Address us at Hartsells, Ala. Your sanctified brother and sister on the gospel altar,

Otto and Lillian M. Bolds.

Fayetteville, Tenn., June 2, 1894.

Dearly Beloved Saints: Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. I arrived in Tenn. May 19, and commenced meetings five miles south of Fayetteville in a private house. The school house had been closed against the saints. An arbor was prepared in a grove in the neigh-

Page 3

borhood, but the weather turning very cool made it unpleasant for services out doors at night. So we held meeting in the grove in day time, and in a private house at night. There is considerable opposition to the truth in this place. Professors of religion, who cease not to plead for a life of sin, even preachers, who are given to a life of licentiousness, stirred up lewd fellows of the baser sort, who burned the seats which had been prepared in the grove. Amidst all this God gave the people grace enough to seat themselves under the shade trees on blocks, chairs, spring seats, logs and robes spread on the ground, and to listen to the precious word of God. This meeting lasted two weeks, during which time sixteen souls professed pardon and one or two entire sanctification. On Friday, June 1, being the last day of the meeting, fifteen souls followed the command and example of Jesus in the ordinance of baptism. Quite a congregation of people were present to witness the scene, although this is the busy season of the year in this locality. During our stay in this neighborhood more personal thrusts intended to insult were hurled at us than at any place in the south. Even the gentleman on whose premises we were kindly allowed to baptize, and who also gave us the privilege of holding meeting at any suitable place on his farm, was basely assaulted by the opposition, for extending to us such privilege. May the Lord God reward him for his kindness to us. Through it all the dear Lord has kept us filled with his eternal glory. May God have mercy upon those who are so much opposed to the truth. They are under the power and control of evil spirits, and know not what they do. May God bless all the dear ones who have been bold enough to renounce the devil and all his works, and come out upon the Lord’s side amid such surroundings, and keep them pure in life. “All that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” We expect to commence meetings to night in the court house in Fayetteville. Your brother saved, sanctified and kept every moment in perfect peace.

Liverpool, Eng.

Dear Saints of God, Greeting: May great grace and peace be yours continually. We report victory again in Jehovah’s might. Since last report I have been to Scotland, taking advantage of cheap rates on the railway. I visited several of the principle cities, taking with me hundreds of tracts and Trumpets, scattering them to the best advantage, and we pray God to bless them to the good of souls, and to the opening up of the way in the future. I found many dear children of God in Scotland, as well as in England whom we trust, God, according to his mighty power and wisdom, will gather them into their own land, a land that flows with milk and honey; namely, entire sanctification.

I returned from Bolton, Eng. to Liverpool on the 17th, according to previous appointments to attend to the ordinance of baptism. Eighteen of God’s children, some from Cheshire, some from Warrington, and some at Liverpool, were buried with Christ by baptism, and so witnessed to this wicked world that they were dead indeed to sin, and alive unto God. After baptismal services, we returned to the place of worship where we observed one of the “all things” that Jesus commanded us to teach people to observe; namely, the sacred ordinance of washing the saints’ feet, only to prove as we have again and again the truth of what Jesus says, “If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.” John 13:17. Though several of the dear ones had to go home before the evening meeting, yet there was a goodly number, something like twenty-eight or twenty-nine. It was a general refreshing to all the saints of the living God. To God be all the glory.

Truly the willing and obedient shall eat the good of the land. There seems to be many people who are willing; they say very willing, willing, willing, but they are not obedient, therefore the devil cuts off their supplies, and the consequence is, they become spiritual wrecks, and as the prophet has said, the show of their countenance doth witness against them. We see the professing world of to day are largely made up of that class; therefore they want all love, wisdom, and charity, and they want that of such a nature as to pass over judgment. That is just what has brought on all the abomination that is going on under the head of religion. “Ye that turn judgment to wormwood and leave off righteousness in the earth.” Amos 5:7. “But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.” Amos 5:24. So then to withhold judgment means to leave off righteousness. That is no doubt the reason many people think they cannot live in this world without sin. They reject God’s judgments and of course go on in sin. Again, Isa. 1:27, “Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, their converts with righteousness.” Psa. 89:14:15 — “Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne; mercy and truth shall go before thy face. Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound. They shall walk O Lord in the light of thy countenance.” Justice and judgment are the habitation of God’s throne and is something to be sounded to mankind, and blessed is the people that know the joyful sound, that is, in the sense that they square up to the word of God, so they may walk in the light of his countenance. Sometimes in contending for the faith once delivered unto the saints, people say very often we are exalted. Well God says, “And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established in the top of the mountain, and shall be exalted above the hills.” Isa. 2:2. In 1 Tim. 3:15 we find what the house of God is. “But if I tarry long, that thou shouldst know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.” So as long as people are in the house of God, they are exalted, but God did the exalting, and he just placed us out of the reach of wicked men and devils. Praise the Lord for his goodness and mercy to the children of men! Let the nations awake to the signs of the times. Come up to the mountain of the Lord’s house, heart purity.

Praise God! He is increasing our faith, insomuch that we believe it will be even as God hath said, “Whatsoever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatsoever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” We expect to have a camp meeting in Cheshire, in August some time, the Lord willing. Let all the saints pray that it may redound to the glory of God, in the spreading of the evening light, and the salvation of souls. This will be our first attempt for camp meeting in England, but we don’t believe it will be the last. At least we will not despise the day of small things, but expect greater in the future. I expect to return to Bolton again in a few days. Sister Shoffner is in Liverpool, Bro. and Sister Rupert and Bro. Neville are in Germany, and Bro. and Sister Achor in London. We all need the special prayers of all God’s saints. My permanent address is No. 2, Jolliffe St., Liverpool, Eng. Yours for the love of God, saved to the uttermost,

J. W. Daugherty.

Dear Saints and Ttumpet Readers: I can testify that the dear Lord does wonderfully save me from sin, and I am trusting him each day I live to keep me in the pure, perfect and holy way. I want to relate, to the glory of God, the healing of my little daughter about five years of age. She was in a condition that doctors thought serious, and a dangerous case to attend, besides the extreme charges they would make. While reading the book on Divine dealing, I found it my privilege to trust in the Lord for her healing. We met to the conditions and requirements of the word, and she is now healed. Praise the Lord! If any one who reads this has any doubt of this being true, and they will write to me, I will give them the testimonies and names of physicians that are acquainted with the circumstance. Pray for me. Your brother in Christ,

Dear Saints of God: I was saved when I was twenty-nine years old. Last fall God saw fit to send the true gospel to us, and my husband and I walked out upon the rock that cannot be moved. If any one feels led to come, write to us at Barron, Wis. We meet at Clinton where the camp meeting will be held, the Lord willing the first week in July. We need some good help. Who will come in the name of the Lord and help us? I would say to all the saints of God who come this way chat they will be welcomed at our home in Barron, one mile east of the depot. To all the Dear Saints of God: I feel that God is leading me to write for his glory. I do praise him that he ever brought me out of darkness and sin into this glorious evening light, and has saved and sanctified me, and sweetly keeps me from sin. I am trusting him to keep me pure, and to fully heal me of all diseases. I have enjoyed more sweet peace and happiness the last year, in serving God, than in all my previous life. It does pay to trust God fully for all things. I am all his, to do as he wills. I do want to follow after our blessed Model, our dear Savior. Pray for me, dear ones. Our little flock in Center Point is growing in grace; all are happy, fully trusting in him who cleanses from all sin. Bless his holy name! Yours all on the altar,

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ: I am glad to tell you that I am still rejoicing in the Lord. Oh it is wonderful what the dear Lord is doing for me and how me keeps me every day from all sin, for which I give him all the glory! It is just one month since I started to serve the Lord, and it grows better all the way long. The Lord is sinking me deeper and deeper, and I am on a solid foundation which is Christ Jesus. Ever since I have been saved I have felt burdened for the salvation of perishing souls, and by the help of God I will rescue them from the awful death that awaits them. Oh may God give me more wisdom and faith! I feel the need of them. Dear ones pray earnestly for me that I may ever be true to God and always be found low at the feet of Jesus. Dear Saints of God: I never heard the true gospel until last December Bro. J. Cole and G. Keeling brought the glorions light to this place. I had been a member of the so-called Christian church for about nine years, then left and went to the M. E. sect. I was not satisfied; but the first time I ever heard God’s true ministers, I saw where I stood. Praise God forever! I know I am now truly saved, and sanctified wholly, and free from all sectism. Whom the Son makes free is free indeed. Oh dear ones, let us just keep low down at the feet of Jesus! Though persecutions and trials may come, I can praise God through all of it, remembering that those who live godly and upright shall have persecutions. I ask the prayers of all God’s little ones, that I may keep saved and ready for the Master’s use. Your sister in Christ,

Dear Trumpet Readers: I praise God for victory in my soul and for the way he is leading me each day. At the age of thirteen I came to God for pardon of my sins, which I received through the precious blood of my Redeemer. I then united with the M. E. sect, and lived a justified experience for many years, the most of the time longing for a deeper work of grace, not being taught sanctification as a second work of grace by the preachers of that sect. They say we will grow into it, but I was led to search the word, and there I found that was not God’s way, and I came in his way, presenting my body a living sacrifice to God, holy, acceptable unto him, which was my reasonable service, and received the evidence clear and sweet that the work was done. Step by step God has been leading me ever since. I have obeyed his word just as he has made it clear to me, although it was some time before I could see that I was to come out of the sect. But praise God, I am out from under the yoke of sectism and standing alone with God. I praise him that he has given me a heart to obey his word, and I realize it is so precious to live in obedience to his will, dead to this world and alive unto God, Christ living in us, the hope of glory, knowing that if we abide in him and his words abide in us, we shall ask what we will and it shall be done. I also praise God that my companion is saved and rejoicing in a free and full salvation. Oh praise God for answers to prayer and for what he has been doing for his children in this place. Yet there are many claiming to be his children that are not free. There comes a sadness to our heart, to see them hesitating to obey the whole word of God. They are blinded by the enemy of their soul and do not know it. May God open their eyes and bring them out of Satan’s chains, is my prayer. Dear ones, take warning from God’s word for he says, If ye love me keep my commandments, and they are not grievous. I know, dear ones, you are in bondage, for we were there ourselves; but glory to God, I am free in Christ Jesus, and he just carries us over every place that looks so rough to the human eye. Yet he makes it smooth and causes us to triumph over every foe. Glory to his name! Though persecuted yet we rejoice that we are accounted worthy to suffer persecutions for Christ’s sake. We are just willing to be dispised and forsaken, only that we may glorify him that has given his life for us, and has borne all for us. It is enough for us to be as our Master. Now dear ones, pray for us that we may continually be found in God’s order, living humble at his feet.

Your sister in Christ,

Ella Swayze.

HEALED OF INSANITY.

_____

Meriden, Kan.

Dear Children of God: May our Father richly bless each of you with just such blessings as you need, for present victory and for the furtherance of his kingdom in the world. My soul is rejoicing in the love of God and realizing the mighty power of the salvation of Jesus Christ that saves from all sin, and prepares us instruments for the Master’s use and for his glory. Since my last testimony in the TRUMPET God has been leading me and teaching me in various-ways, many precious lessons of faith and patience. Dear ones for whom we have prayed for twelve years without a sign of change, have been brought to acknowledge the truth in several ways, and have given up their rebellion. May the precious work continue until their nature is brought into perfect harmony with God.

My work has been to visit among religious people, holding up the blessed gospel standard, and in visiting the sick, ministering both temporally and spiritually as the Holy Spirit led. Have made two visits to Topeka, visiting among those awakened to the truth through last year’s camp meeting, and have had the privilege of teaching the pure gospel among the “Good Way holiness people,” as they profess to have confidence in my religious experience and want me to do just what God leads me to do.

I visited Sister Johnson, for whom prayer was asked near the first of the year, as she was violently insane and in the asylum in Topeka. She wished me to write her testimony of healing for the encouragement of others and for the glory of God, as she is certainly very thankful to him for her deliverance. On her entrance to the asylum she was pronounced incurable and placed in that ward. She was soon confined in a locked bed, forcibly fed, and expected to die any hour. One of God’s children meeting her husband on the street, spoke to him of requesting prayers at the Office, and he gladly acquiesced and set the day for special prayer. On that day she aroused from a stupor, the fever departed and she asked for food, which was brought and keenly relished. Also granted a Bible to read, which filled her with delight. In a short time she was sitting up and soon changed to a better place. Shortly afterward she washed dishes of her own accord and was placed in the best ward. In a little over a month she was allowed to return to her family of little ones, for whom she has cared ever since, and feels better than she has for many years. Shortly after her return home a very hard substance passed from her body in a natural way, which no doubt was the cause of her derangement. Her face shown with glory as she with many thanksgivings narrated many things connected with her healing. She desired to thank all who had borne her case to the Lord in prayer.

Some precious souls are desiring a tabernacle meeting there this summer and praying God to send one. The few dear ones here add their petitions, and hope for a work of divine grace in this forsaken place. As long as we are permitted to remain here there is surely something for us to do to God’s glory and for the good of souls. Each day our Father’s family with all their needs is brought before the throne of grace, in firm trust that divine help will be give to each one according to their necessities. Remember me ever in earnest prayer, that I may know but the will of God and do it. Your saved sister.

Jennie C. Rutty.

__________

HOW I WAS HEALED OF RHEUMATISM.

Muscatine, Iowa., May 21, 1894.

Dear Children of the Living God: May God’s richest blessings rest upon you all and keep you unspotted from this wicked world, is the prayer of my soul.

I have been impressed to write a few words for the Lord for some time, although the enemy tries very hard to get me to put it off for some other time. I want to tell you all how wonderfully the Lord healed me of rheumatism this Spring. Bless his name forever! When we moved to Muscatine in early March, 1894, I was taken with La Grippe and was so poorly that I could hardly do my work. And after a few days I wrote to the TRUMPET Office telling the dear saints to have special prayer in my behalf for my healing, and in two days there was such a change for the better that I was beginning to think I was about well and felt that God heard the prayers of his children, when the dreaded and terrible rheumatism set in. Oh it almost makes me shudder when I think how I suffered. Oh I did suffer so, its so very painful, I thought how our dear One on the cross must have suffered, and I tried to be as patient as I could all the while. I was in so much pain; something kept whispering to me, “Trust God and all will be well with you, but if you go trusting man you will surely die.” And I told God I was going to trust him for my healing, and I did; Bless the Lord forever!

When I was so helpless and so bad, suffering so, it came into my mind to for Brother Fred Husted to lay hands on me for my healing, and my husband said that he would write for him at once and have him come. He was at Rochester, this state, and while my husband was gone to mail the letter, Brother H. came. I was so glad that God sent him to our house. He said he felt that some one needed him somewhere; bless the Lord forever! Oh give God all the glory! Brother H. prayed and laid hands on me and I was better at once. I walked to the window, took up a glass of water and took a drink, something which I had not done for more than a week. My husband had to feed me and do for me as if I had been a little child; but praise God, I knew I was healed, and asked the Lord to increase my faith so I could believe the more. But that night it seemed as if all the devils in hell were at me to make me believe that I was not healed. All the terrible pain came on me again, and I could scarcely keep from screaming; it was worse than ever before. But glory be to Jesus, I kept on asking him to increase my faith and help me; and towards morning the pain lessened so much that I could sleep some; and from that on the pain was getting less and less until it was all gone. But it would come back in my arms once in a while. When Brother and Sister Orr were here at my house I could hardly use my right arm, and the sister did make every thing so plain to me. and told me to just come right straight out for God and I would be all right. So the next Monday I wanted to do my washing, but my arms were very painful. I thought I would try it any how, and in the name of Jesus I began to wash, and I washed that afternoon without any harm. The next day I washed until noon, and glory be to Jesus, it seems to make my arms well because I walk out on his promises.

Oh how I do praise the Lord for his goodness to the children of men! and oh how I do thank him for removing one of the most painful of diseases from me! Praise him, all ye his saints. My soul is exceedingly joyful. The dear Lord helps me in so many ways; he is a present help in time of need. Dear ones who read this, I hope it may help you in some way. If your faith is not strong, pray to God to make it stronger and it shall be done. Oh how wonderful is it all! Bless the Lord! God bless the dear saints at Nichols and Adams, and keep them safe, is the prayer of my soul.

Well I want all the dear saints of God to pray for my husband that he will come clear out for God. I think his faith isn’t strong enough. Oh the Lord keeps me from the evil things of this world. How could I ever live without Jesus in my heart? He is with me all the time, and oh how sweet he whispers to me and encourages me to go on in sweet pilgrimage! Dear brothers and sisters, pray for me that I will ever be true, and sink deeper into the Master’s will, and do his bidding. Glory glory be to king Jesus our Savior! Amen. Your saved sister in Christ Jesus,

Lizzie Clark.

Dear Saints of God: Wife and I feel moved to write our testimony for the first time. We do thank God that we are saved from all sin and sectism, and from all filthiness of the flesh. We used tobacco for 40 or 50 years, But praise the Lord he has taken away all the desire and taste for it, and we are standing firm on the Rock and have full salvation through the blood of Christ. Praise his holy name forever! we are determined to stand firm the balance of our days, God being our helper. We feel this morning that we are all on the altar for God, and willing to do any thing for him. We ask all the dear saints to pray for us. Your brother and sister, saved and sanctified.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ: We are saved and kept by power divine. Praise God! The devil is raging here. I will make one more appeal to come over and help us. Oh if you knew the need of the pure gospel to so many lost souls, you would for Chrit’s sake come while the souls of men are dying, and the Master calls for you. The sect preachers here are thick, rocking the poor deluded souls to sleep. I believe a company would do more good than one or two. There are lots that want to come out in the truth, but are afraid of the opposite side. If any feel led to come, address me at Swifton. Pray for us; we need your prayers. We are young in the cause.

Dear Saints of God: I do praise the blessed Lord for a full and free salvation. I do know that Jesus saves me just now. I have a hard fight here with sects and creeds, but praise God for this blessed evening light, and the mighty power of God which is able to make us stand. I would ask the dear saints to pray for me. I am a poor man in this world’s goods, but rich in faith. Praise God! I know I have been called out of Babylon and given a work to do for the Lord. I will be true to the Lord, for the has done so much for me. Praise his holy name! pray for me that I may be a bright and shining light, and not hid under the bushel of sectism. Wife and I are standing alone in this neighborhood through the power of God. Your brother and sister in the one body, all sold out for God,

To All the Dear Saints of God: This morning I feel like writing my testimony for the first time. I am 79 years old. I was in the Campbellite sect for 36 years, but when I heard the pure word preached it did not take me long to see my way out of Baby- on. Three years ago I came out in this evening light. Oh I do praise the Lord for this wonderful salvation! I am saved and sanctified, and can also testify to the healing power of God. A few weeks ago I had a request for prayer in the TRUMPET, for the healing of my hands, which were very painful with rheumatism. The Lord removed all the pain immediately, but through the suggestions of the enemy I began to doubt and my hands again became very painful. But praise the Lord, I have the victory now, soul and body. I give God all the glory. Pray for me that I may ever be true to him. Your humble sister in Jesus.

Dear Saints of God: I feel led to give my testimony, for the first time, to the glory of God. He has saved me from all sin. Praise his name! I want to be a bright and shining light for Jesus, who has done so much for me. It seems the devil tries to discourage me, by telling me that the Lord can’t make use of me, because I can neither preach nor sing, and have no means of my own to give. My husband is not saved. But I feel confident if the Lord wants me to do or give anything, he is able to open up the way. All glory and praise to his name! pray for me that I may always be found faithful to him, for fully realize that we must be up and doing if we expect to gain the prize. I am one among the few that have started in the race, at the end of which is everlasting life. Your sister in the one body,

Dear Saints of God: We feel led of the Lord this evening to write our testimony. We are praising the Lore for full salvation, that keeps us free from all sin. The hireling ministers of Babylon do not like to hear this, and especially those of the Baptist sect. There was one of them preaching the other Sabbath evening that they couldn’t live without sin, and still they claim to know God and do his will. But our Bible says in 1 Jno. 2:4, “He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar and the truth is not in him.” 3:8 “He that committeth sin is of the devil.” But we just rebuke all such doctrines in the name of Jesus, and praise God for keeping us free from all sin. We ask the prayers of all God’s little ones, that we may be ever kept humble and doing the Master’s bidding. Your brother and sister, saved in Jesus,

S. J. and M. B. Ruffner.

Dear Saints of God: The Lord has been good and merciful to me, and keeps me both soul and body. I rejoice in my soul that I have such a dear Savior, he sweetly saves me just now. The Lord has healed me and my two children in the past three weeks. I have not taken a dose of medicine for about seven years. My baby did not get along as I thought she ought, and the devil got me to give her a dose of oil, but praise God it did not take effect. I had to get right down and trust God before she was relieved. Now she is playing about the floor. I am ashamed of the distrust I had in God, it has taught me a precious lesson. There are no worldly pleasures for me. I do praise my God that where I was once blind I now see. I am walking in the glorious evening light. I want to sink deeper down in the will of God. nothing in self, but all in God. Your sister sanctified wholly,

Dear Saints: I believe it is to the glory of God that I write my first testimony. I can say that the Lord saves me through and through. He not only forgives me of my sins, but he saves me out of all sects and the pride and fashions of this sinful world, and gives me the real victory in my soul, and as I read his holy word and ask him for understanding, he shows me things that I never knew before. Oh how the devil tries to throw God’s children off of this highway of holiness! Jesus knew all about it when he said, Watch and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. How glad I am that I ever heard the true gospel preached, and I accepted it! Praise our God forever! I am all the Lord’s, soul and body, for time and eternity. Pray for me, that the Lord may ever keep me humble and true. From your sister in Christ,

Mrs. Jennie Moore.

To the Saints and Redeemed in Christ: I feel led to write my testimony, hoping it may be the means of encouraging some one. I have been a member of the Christian church seven years and a half, living up to all the light I had, or tried to. I trusted so much to my own strength. I am now praising God for a full and free salvation. I had been taught to believe the Holy Ghost was meant only for the apostles, and that the day of healing was past. But praise God for his mercy, he sent Bro. Hudson into our neighborhood to preach. I thought I would go and help and do what I could to see souls saved, for we have needed the word preached here. It only took a sermon or two, to convince me where I stood. I was starving spiritually. I gave myself up a living sacrifice on the altar Jesus Christ. Words cannot tell what a blessed witness I received that I was sweetly saved and sanctified wholly. And dear readers, I was not yet satisfied. When God brought me into this marvelous light, he helped me to see that the day of healing was not passed. I had been a sufferer for over a year from female trouble, mechanical displacement, and every organ in my body had decome diseased through sympathy. Only God and those that have endured this affliction know what agony I endured, or have endured and suffered. I was treated by six different doctors during this time; some doctored me for one thing and some another. One treated my eyes and put glasses on me. The last doctor I consulted seemed to understand my case, and said he could cure me, but it would take him six months. At this point God showed me so plain that if I trusted him for a few things, why not take him entirely? If he was able to cleanse my soul from sin and make it pure, he was also able to cleanse my body from all diseases. I simply stepped out on his promise, put myself, soul and body into his keeping, without any earthly help. Bro. Hudson anointed me in the name of the Lord Jesus, with the saints at this place laying on hands, and praise God forever, He healed me and it didn’t take him six months to do it either. Oh, how plain I could feel the mighty hand of God at work in my body! And should a doubting mind read this, oh I ask you in God’s name, doubt no longer. Take him at his word; take him as your Savior in all things in this life, and he will prove a sufficient Savior. It is needless for me to say my glasses are laid away and are only a thing of the past. My will is God’s will, and my only desire in this life is that God will use me as an instrument in his hands to his own glory. I can do nothing but praise him for what he has done for me, and I ask an interest in the prayers of all God’s people, that I may ever be found at my Master’s feet and doing his whole will. Your sister saved and sanctified,

Nannie Stockdale.
