Words and music by J. C. Fisher.

—:o:—

Come poor sinner, Christ is waiting,
For to soothe thy heart of pain,
He is anxious: He is willing,
Come, He’ll cleanse you from each stain.

Chorus.

Come, O come then, do not tarry,
He will fill thy heart with joy,
Hasten quickly, He will cleanse thee,
Pure as gold, without alloy.

Come to Him, why will you languish;
Filled with sorrow and despair,
All the clouds will quickly vanish,
Leaving all like morning fair.

Calmly then, with sweet emotion,
Thy poor soul shall sink to rest,
In the depth of loves pure ocean,
Where you’ll be forever blest.

Quickly catch the beams of glory,
Streaming forth from Calvary’s cross,
Where His blood was shed to save thee,
Oh! how much thy soul has cost.

Do not doubt, nor wait a moment.
Soon the cleansing will be done,
Then He’ll clothe thee in white raiment,
That will far out-shine the sun.

HEALED BY THE POWER OF GOD.

—:o:—

ABOUT ten years ago my eyes began troubling me; the lids became granulated and inflamed. I was dressmaking at the time, and was obliged to give up reading to save my eyes for sewing. I continued in this way for nearly two years, then my eyes became so weak, and ulcers, (or they seemed more like water blisters,) began forming on the under part of the upper lid. I was obliged to give up sewing altogether, and did the house work at home up to five years ago last January. At that time I took a severe cold, that settled not only in my head and eyes, but throughout my body, leaving my eyes in a terrible condition. I was obliged to keep them closed most of the time, it strained them so to keep them open; and from that time I was un able to work. When I would use my arms they would become so heavy they were burdensome, but I could walk about as usual, and use my eyes some in a general way, but not to look steady at any thing or to be able to either read or sew. About three years ago it, was discovered that the disease of both eyes and arms was caused from the displacement of other organs. One year ago last December I began receiving treatment from one of the prominent physicians of this place, and after the third treatment I was unable to walk as formerly, and in a short time my arms became helpless. I was unable to comb my hair or to prepare my victuals on my plate, and was so weak I could scarcely drag myself about the house; but the treatment benefited both head and eyes, I could leave them open longer, and use them more in a general way, but still unable to read or sew. One year from the following June found me some stronger physically, but still very weak. Arrangements had been made for me to attend a non-sectarian holiness camp-meeting near Bangor Mich., where several healings to my knowledge had been wrought by the power of God. I was very anxious to go, for I knew if I could be converted and sanctified, God would be just as willing to heal me as any one. He had no respect of persons. The day before I left for Bangor, I had been out riding in an easy carriage and became so tired, it seemed my nerves were nearly Prostrated; I was so weak I could scarcely arise the next morning. About nine o’clock the word came that they would meet me that evening, I went to my room and cried out to God in my awful weakness for the strength I needed, and went forth on His promise, reaching my destination that evening, Thursday June 5th 1884. The next morning I went on the camp-ground and began seeking a clean heart; that evening I was concious of being emptied of sin, praise His name I and the Sunday night following, I was wholly sanctified to God. And the next afternoon about five o’clok, by the laying on of the Elders’ hands, Bro’s. Warner, Fisher and Cole, God touched me with the healing power: and the case which had exhausted the skill of eight different physicians, was healed almost instantly by God. Praises to the Lamb of God for ever! The next morning a Bible was handed me and I read with perfect ease, and one week from the day I was healed I walked to Bro. Harris’s, nearly a half mile, and from there rode in a lumber wagon to Grand Junction, a distance of five miles, part of the road being very rough; and from there by rail road home, and assisted mother in getting supper and washing the dishes.

To-day I am healed soul and body, and can work, walk, and sew; and oh, I do thank God for my afflictions: but for them I think I would never have found Christ, for the god of this world had such a charm for me. Old things have indeed passed away, and all things have become new. And I am “kept daily by the power of God, through faith unto salvation, ready to be revealed in the last time.” “Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!”

I’m walking in the path God marker out for His little ones; and the path is so narrow, that, to be conformed to the world means death to the soul. The way God marked out is vastly different from the road the professed christians are walking in to-day: so conformed to the world that you would not know a professed child of God from an unbeliever. The opinion of skeptics and sect formal professors in regard to Bible christians, is that their minds are so contracted they are incapable of making any advancement, in the science of this world: but we read in 1st Cor. 3:18-21, ”Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God: for it is written He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.” And again. “The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.” ”Therefore let no man glory in men.” 1 Cor. 1:18-29, “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish, foolishness; but unto us which are saved, it is the power of God.” “For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.” “Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world? Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?” “For after that in the wisdom of God, the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” ”For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom. But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness: Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.” “For ye know your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called; but God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; and base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to naught the things which are; that no flesh should glory in his presence.”

What will it profit us then to mark out a way broader than the way God Himself has marked out for us. Matt. 16:24—26. “Then said Jesus unto His diciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up His cross and follow me: for whosoever will save his life shall lose it, and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.” “For what is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” Phili. 3:17—19, “Be followers of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.” Gal. 1:8—10, “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other Gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Jesus Christ.” 2 Tim. 4:3, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears.” Mark 16:15-20, “And He said unto them, “go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe. In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with tongues; they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them He was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, confirming the Word with signs following.” God says “these signs shall follow them that believe.” Praise His holy name! Yes, and they are following the children of God. 2 Tim 3:1—5. “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters proud, blasphemers, disobedient, to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, dispisers of those that are good. Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. Eph. 5:11. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. Now the formal sect professors say, when we read the Word of God to them, “You had better be careful, God has commanded us not to judge one another.” But praise” His holy name. Matt. 7:20, 21. Therefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Matt. 12:34, 35, 37. O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shall be condemned. Matt. 22:14. For many are called, but few are chosen. 1 John 3:7-10. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous. “He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He midst destroy the works of the devil.” Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin because He is born of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither He that loveth not his brother. 2nd Thess. 3:6. Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. Praise the Lord! Luke 16:15. And He said unto them, ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God. Rom. 12:2. And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your minds, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God. 1 Jno. 2:15 17, Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the Jove of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever. Matt. 6:12. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also, James 4:4, 6, Know ye not that, the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble. Pro. 16-17. A proud look, is hateful in the sight of God. To be a friend of the world, is to be like them, in dress, conversation, looking to the world for their pleasure, instead of finding it in God. Matt. 18:14. Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish. Hosea 14:4. I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him. Matt. 10:38. But he that taketh not his cross and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. Jno. 15:18-21: If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. Remember the word that I said unto you, the servent is not greater than his Lord. If they have persecuted me they will also persecute you; but all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me. 2 Tim. 3:12. Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. Malt. 10:22. And ye shall be hated of all men for My name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. 2 Tim. 1:4, 5. We ourselves glory in you in the Churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God for which ye also suffer. Well, I thank my God for an honest and obedient heart, and for this holy boldness, to take up the whole cross and follow in His footsteps.

He has made a pilgrim and a stranger of me, and has given me a joy in my soul that the world cannot understand, neither can it give or take away. And I am all sold out to Jesus. I will take the scoffs and the frowns of the world. I’m a child of the King, and greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world. Praise His holy name forever! His blood cleanseth me from all sin, and sanctifies me wholly.

“I was once far away from the Savior,
And as vile as a sinner could be;
I wondered if Christ the Redeemer,
Would save a poor sinner like me.
I wandered on in the darkness,
Not a ray of light could I see;
And the thought filled my heart with sadness;
There’s no hope for a sinner like me.

But there in that dark lonely hour,
A voice sweetly whispered to me,
Saying: Christ the Redeemer, hath power
To save a poor sinner like thee.
I listened, and lo! ’twas the Savior
That was speaking so kindly to me;
I cried, I’m the chief of sinners,
Thou canst save a poor sinner like me?

I then fully trusted in Jesus,
And, Oh! what a joy came to me;
My heart was filled with praises,
For He saved a poor sinner like me”
No longer in darkness I’m walking,
For the tight is shining on me,
And now unto others I’m telling,
How He saved a poor sinner like me.

Rev. 3:9-11. Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of satan, (sects) which say they are Jews, (Christians) and are not, but do lie; Behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

THE GLORIOUS RETURN.

—:o:—

Isa. 35:8—10.

Who shall return? Answer, ”The ransomed of the Lord.” Praise God! we are ransomed, that is, bought back from all sin and bondage, redeemed from the power of satan, and emancipated from the yoke of sectism. “So that we may be infants no longer, tossed and whirled about with every wind of that teaching, which is in the trickery of men, by cunning craftiness in systematic deception.” — Eph. 4: 14, Diaglott.

“And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentile seek: and His rest shall be glorious. And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set His hand again the second time to recover the remnant of His people.”

“And there shall be a highway for the remnant of His people, which shall be left from Assyria, like as it was to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.” — Isa. 11:10, 11, 16.

All can see the parable between this Scripture and our text. The return is by way of the Highway, and it is the gathering of a “Gentile” “remnant” from Assyria, the sect of Babylon, which is typically refered to, as denoting sect confusion.

“And His rest shall be glorious.” Even as it is at this present time. “For we which have believed do enter into rest.”

Both Old and New Testament prophesy describe this gathering of the Gentile remnant, to be the pure Bride of Christ, in the time of the end.” And the redemption of this remnant, is a second redemption, or recovery of the soul. The first was the ransom from our sins, called the coming out from Egypt. The second is our merciful purchase back from the God-dishonoring confusion of sect mixture.

Therefore the escape from sectism is a divide work, a real ransom of the Lord, a buying back again the second time. As it is written, “Loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion.

For thus saith the Lord, ye have sold yourselves for naught, (when you joined a sect) and ye shall be redeemed without money.” Isa. 52:2, 3.

Thus the deliverance from the bondage of sect is no small thing; if is not simply withdrawing your name from the sect book, and then going about, speaking against these corrupt organisms. No it is a real redemption of the soul through the cleansing blood of Christ, and the burning “sanctification of the Spirit.”

Every person that has once had the leprosy of sectism in the soul, is still under the plague unless he has passed out of her through the blood. If he come out by any other means, he simply rallies to the idea of opposing other sects, with nothing better than cold debate and carnal contention in his heart. Such are still in bondage to babylon. “And it shall come to pass in that day, that His burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and His yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.” — Isa. 10:27.

Praise God! the holy anonting of the Sanctifyer, and nothing else redeems from babylon. Therefore none but the ransomed shall return from her captivity.

WHERE SHALL THEY RETURN TO?

Answer. “The ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion.”

The word Zion, denotes fortress. It was the oldest and highest part of the City: often called the City of David. It is one of the most rapturous, symbolic names of the Church, it will be a feast to your soul to take a complete concordance, and read the many passages of Scripture that mention the Church of the First Born, by the glorious title of Zion, and Mt. Zion.

“Out of Zion (God’s Church) the perfection of beauty God hath shined.” “when the Lord shall build up Zion, (His Church) He shall appear in His glory.” “Let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.”

“Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion, for great is the Holy One in the midst of thee.” “The Lord hath founded Zion.” — the Church. “O Zion get thee up into the high mountain.” “I will place salvation in Zion” — the Church. “I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of my hand * * * And say unto Zion (the Church) thou art my people.” “Awake, awake, put on thy strength O Zion.” “They shall call thee the City of the Lord, the Zion of the Holy One of Israel,” — the Church of the, Holy One of Israel. “As soon as Zion, (God’s Church) travailed, she brought forth.” “Zion spreadeth forth her hands.” “Be glad then ye children of Zion and rejoice.”

All such texts, it is easy and prophetic to see the Church, of the Lord Jesus.

Continued From Page 1

This was the Oily that Abraham, through faith and the Spirit, looked for, “which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.”

But the last days have come, and the glorious Zion of prophesy appears on the earth. Accordingly Paul says, «Ye are come unto mount Zion, and unto the City of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, to the General Assembly and mid Church of the first Burn, which are written in heaven. * * * And to Jesus, the mediator of the New Covenant.” — Heb. 12:22—24. Thus we see that Mount Zion is nothing more or less than the Church of the Lord Jesus, constituted under the New Testament, and having her membership written in heaven.”

So then the ransomed of the Lord return from the confusion of all “our Churches,” from the poor old stranded wrecks of human crafts, where they have long been bewildered in the dark and cloudy day. to Mount Zion, the City of the living God, the true Church of the First Born which is written in heaven. Glory to God! Is not this present truth? Have not the truly ransomed from all sin everywhere, come out of her? Have not the holy people quite commonly dropped the dark age idea of the Church, and returned to the Scriptural idea of the Church, which is the Body of Christ, the heavenly Jerusalem.”

Praise the Lord! this command is now being obeyed. “Deliver thyself, O ZION, the daughter of Babylon,” — Zech. 2:7.

The daughters of babylon are the sects, that have branched out of Rome, the mother of harlots. God’s children have found out that Christ is the Church, and not the sect corporation; hence they have returned from the latter to the former. God has made “a way for the Ransomed to pass over.” Therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall return, and come with singing unto Zion, and the everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away.” Isa. 51:10, 11.

This is almost the same language as that which heads this article. Now let us observe this thought, “shall return, and come to Zion.” The idea of a return implies the coming to a point, from which there had previously been a departing.

How beautifully and exactly the present move of God’s Spirit, and truth, among the nations, fulfills this, and kindred prophesy. Some apply these words to a literal return of the Jews. But knowing that it is Scriptural, we knew no better, than to apply it to the pilgrims, and saints reaching and entering heaven, though such application is inconsistent with the word, return, which is a coming back to a place previously occupied.

The Church is to be viewed as a continued body. She once embraced, and dwelt in the divine City, the pure organization of the Spirit of God; and from this heavenly Zion she has been deceived and carried away into sect organizations, from which she now returns, and comes to Zion again.

How did the saints go away from Mount Zion, the City of the Living God? Read Micah 4th chapter. The first and second verses describe the founding of the Church at Jerusalem. Verses 9, 10, record her apostacy. “Be in pain and labor to bring forth, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in travil: for now shalt thou go forth out of the City. (Out of Mt. Zion the City of the Living God, the Church of the First Born.) And thou shalt go even to babylon.” Yes the mass of professors have gone out of the Divine City, and “gone even to babylon.” And now all that have not been put to death there, are “returning, and coming to Zion,” God’s own Church. Hallelujah!

HOW SHALL THEY RETURN?

Answer. “And a highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called the way of holiness.” The highway, is salvation by the washing of regeneration.

To be born of God, is indeed to be on a highway: for “he that is born of God doth not commit sin.” “And is not of the world.” “Behold now are we the sons of God.” “Therefore the world knoweth us not.” — John 3. We see that regeneration is a way so high, that it is above the comprehension of this world, and above the practices of sin.

But besides this high way of first principle of salvation, there is still “a more excellent way,” of perfect love. “And a way, and it shall be called the way of holiness: the unclean shall not pass over it: (not one with inbred carnality, or any filthiness of the flesh or spirit, can walk upon this way of holiness.) But it shall be for those: the wayfaring man, though fools, shall not err therein.” Glory to God! Men of very feeble intelligence can, and do, walk on this holy way with absolute certainty in the correctness of every step they make, while the “wise and prudent,” flounder about in their own ignorance.

“No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast, (men and women who live in the animal plain,) shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there; but the ransomed of the Lord shall return (on the way of holiness) and come to Zion.” Now we have shown that Zion is the “Church of the First Born.” Here we learn two facts, 1st there is no way to return to God’s true Zion, but upon the way of holiness.

Therefore all pretentions of being out of babylon, while yet lighting Bible holiness, the definite, “and a way.” or second grace,” is a delusion, and deception of satan; for only the ransomed who walk on this definite way of holiness, do really return from babylon, and come to Zion, God’s holy Church. This is evident because, She is pure, and without spot or wrinkle or any such thing. Therefore the way of holiness, is the only way from babylon to Zion.

2nd The next fact is this, that men and women professing to walk in true holiness and still remain in fellowship with babylon, are deceived, and lacking in their holiness before God. Because, none but the redeemed and ransomed of the Lord, walk on the way of holiness, and they all come to Zion. The way of holiness leads directly from babylon to Zion, God’s Church.

Therefore no one can walk thereon, without coming to Zion. To stay in sectism, therefore, men must keep off of the way of holiness.

WHAT IS THE EFFECTS OF COMING TO ZION.

Answer. “They shall return and come to Zion, with songs of everlasting joy on their heads.” Glory to the Lamb! How wonderfuly true this is. How often we have seen it verified. The very step of coming out of babylon, and taking a stand on Mount Zion, thrills the heart with songs of everlasting joy. And it does not end with the first blessing of God in the deed. But as the simplicity and freedom, the beauty and glory of the real Church of the First Born,” the heavenly Jerusalem,” unfolds, the soul is filled, more and more with the glory and praise of God.

Yea, having come to Zion, they shall obtain joy and gladness; and sorrow and sighing forever flee away.” Hallelujah!

Full salvation sweeps away all sin, and sect creeds and crafts, and with them “flee away,” all sorrow and sighing.

Hallelujah to God forever! We have nothing left in our heart and life but the heavenly Kingdom, which is love, and joy and peace in the Holy Spirit; overflowing in songs of gladness and everlasting praise.

To sum up this whole lesson, is it not a fact that walking on the “way of holiness,” thousands have come to the Zion of God, free from all sects, and are now happy and complete in Jesus? Amen!

Daniel.

THE WORK OP THE LORD IS RIGHT.

—:o:—

Armington Ill. April 20th ’85.

DEAR BRETHREN: — God bless you. Is it not blessed to have the consciousness in the soul, that we have but one object in all we do — namely the glory of God. No selfish interests, no party to build up, no human creeds to defend.

I would just like to put my arms around every child of God, and whisper to them the loving reality, and satisfying power of God’s salvation in Christ Jesus; and try to tell them how God loves their soul, with everlasting love, and offers them all the riches and glory of His Kingdom, “for all things are yours, and ye are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.”

We have a little company here, of ten or twelve, that meet in Jesus name alone.

We are glad to receive any who come to us, who love our Lord, Jesus Christ, in sincerity. We have no rules or regulations of our make, to govern the assembly.

But each one is free to worship God, as the Spirit directs. We believe in every thing we read in the inspired Word, but receive nothing outside of the Bible. We break bread every Lord’s day. Baptize, (that is immerse.) believers. We pray for the healing of the sick. We claim no official authority to ordain Elders or Deacons, but accept any as such, that the Lord sees fit to use. We believe in washing one anothers feet, by the “waters of the Word,” and especially, in allowing Him to wash our feet. (John 3:5. 17:17. Eph. 5; 26. Gal. 6:1.) Without this we could have no fellowship with Him. John 13:8. “Every branch in Me that beareth fruit, He purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.” “Whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth, and scourgeth every son that He receiveth.” “The very God of peace, sanctify you wholly.”

We are sure that the Lord is coming very soon, and we are looking for Him.

We count ourselves as pilgrims, and strangers on the earth. Our citizenship is in Heaven. So we take no part in the political, social, or “religious” affairs of this world.

I find much in your paper, that I read with a real relish. But some things, I do not think are according to the Word.

Yet it gives my heart joy to see that there are so many souls that take a real delight in laboring for the Master.

I would like so much to greet you all face to face. I am sure we will when we shall be “caught up to meet the Lord in the air.” May we “be found of Him without spot or blemish.” Your brother,

Geo. O. Baily.

NOTE.

We are glad to hear our Bro. Baily, report that they have accepted just what the Bible teaches. That is a safe position to take. When a weak convert two years old, after rambling through a wilderness maze of human creeds, to find out what Church I ought to join, and was more unsettled, than before I read any, I threw myself at the feet of Jesus, and asked His leading through the Spirit. My soul was in an agony of intense earnestness. I kept up this pursuit until the refreshings of the Holy Spirit came upon me, shedding much light on my mind. One thing was settled by the voice of the Lord, that was, God willed me to ignore all human sects and creeds, and commit myself to the whole Word of God, and rejecting all it does not teach. But ten years later, after becoming wholly sanctified, and receiving the personal Comforter. I soon found that I had not been able to decide in many things, what the will of the Lord was, until this glorious illumination. Then I laid all my previous views down at the feet of Christ, just as if they were all wrong.

Then putting myself under the direct teaching of the Comforter, He has lead my soul forward in the steps of the truth with absolute and eternal certainty.

Therefore be it known by our brother Baily, and all men, dial what we teach, we “do not teach as the Pharisees, but as one having authority.” We “know the truth, and the truth makes us free.” By the unerring council of the Holy Spirit, we are qualified to teach, “exhort and rebuke with all authority.” — Titus 2:15.

We do not live in the “think so,” region at all, but in the “know that we are of the truth.” Therefore, the doctrine we teach which the brother “thinks” is not Scriptural, “we know,” is Scriptural. Doubtless much truth-lays beyond our present knowledge, but what we know by the revelation of the Spirit, we do not “think,” but “know,” indeed.

But since brother B. has taken the Word of God for his rule, will he please tell us the verse and chapter where we are commanded to break bread every Lords day?

Again since the New Testament teaches, and the Apostles practiced the ordinations of Elders and Deacons, by the laying on of hands, should we not, to be Scriptural, practise the same? True we are not to lay on hands with “official,” or dragon authority, but with New Testament, and Holy Spirit authority.

Once more we would ask our dear brother Baily where we have any command or example in the New Testament for “washing one anothers feet with the waters of the Word,” or as I suppose, the brother meant to quote, the “washing of water by the Word.” If he means washing feet by the kind of water the Word teaches was used for that purpose, we say Amen!

But if he means to spiritualize thecommand to wash one anothers feet, by substituting the Word of God, for literal water, then our brother certainly knows that he has departed from his own standard, to receive every thing the Word teaches. Let us deal honestly with the Word of God. What kind of water was it that Jesus “poured into a basin, and washed the disciples feet with? was it literal water? or did He pour some of the Word of God into a basin, and wash the disciples feet in it, and then wipe them dry with the towel wherewith He was girded? Will brother Baily please let us know how the Church at his place proceeds to wash one anothers feet with the word of God? If we know that Christ washed the disciples feet with literal water, and then said He had done that act to give us “an example that we should do as He did unto them,” can we obey the Word of Christ without doing to each other just what He did? Nay my brother “If you would yield obedience, you must stoop to washing feet. “If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.”

We know them.

Daniel.

THE POISON OF ASPS.

—:o:—

QUITE a heap of snakes were killed in Iowa, last winter, as was reported some time ago in the Trumpet. Now since the warm spring sun begins to bloat their vile carcasses, and the nasty green poison begins to ooze out. Lyman Johnson, converts his grumbling stone, into a sess-pot, to catch the horrid stuff and serve it up to his readers. Had the man one ray of Spiritual light in his soul, he would have known that the nasty mess of slime, sent him by N. Vincent is nothing but lothesome poison, dripped from killed snakes.

But having virtually acknowledged in his paper that he was just as blind as any other sinner, he showed it in his willingness to gulp down a pot of lies from the pit, as that from Vincent. Has the man no reason? Does he not know that hypocrites, who have been cut off by the Word of God, naturally, look about for some sheet that is base and blind enough to become an organ through which to run out their forked tongue, and hiss and blow their frothy venom.

A pretty set this Vincent, and Roberts, (the latter we recognize as the father of the infamous lies in the former name,) to charge upon us freeloveism. We found them in perfect fellowship with Mrs. Hills and Stout, whose ungodly life of adultery, was brought to light by the Holy Spirit of God in us, and rebuked and publicly exposed and renounced by us; which resulted in the law taking hold of Stout, convicting him of adultery, and sentencing him to the penitentiary. Roberts, who condescends to make Vincent his tool, was base enough to do all iu his power to cover, and justify the ungodly polygamy of those parties. And now even since their ungodly works have come to light, and proved in court, even worse than we had charged upon them, these reprobates have the serpentine impudence to charge us of being freelovers; and the devil calls his servant Johnson to give publicity to his pottage. A man that is filled with the Holy Spirit, can feel the devil in such a letter, even before he had opened it.

We speak by experience, and declare what we do know. Were it not that God forbids His holy children not to touch such a vile sheet, we would demand space to answer this compilation of lies, in the same columns that published them. But we gladly leave the author and publisher, to answer it themselves in the day of judgement. We count such aspersions from the dragon, all joy, and shall keep on praising God in the highest. For He fills our souls with all joy and peace, even when reproached for the name of Jesus.

Hallelujah! We know very well what chafes the Stumbling man. God does not touch his, work. He is putting His seal everywhere upon the pure Gospel of holiness, and hundreds are being saved, and filled with the Spirit of God. And though lor the last three years his stumbling ice-burg has sent out scarcely anything but chilling, grating, columns of rage, against Bible holiness and the ordinances of Jesus Christ, yet scores of the ransomed and redeemed are returning to Zion on the way of holiness, which his vulture eyes have not seen. And they “came with songs of everlasting joy upon their heads, they received joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing flee away.” And though his blind sheet has been filled with opposition to the ordinances of Christ, yet all that know the voice of the Shepherd, do follow His footsteps. Even when the Johnson Stumbling blocks have been thrown all about them, as in the baptism of 16 saints of God at Dimondale Mich. recently. Like king Saul, he writhes and foams, and becomes rejected of God.

He complains of us because we have he says, “a rejecting Spirit.” Certainly we nave. An heretic after the first and second admonition reject.” So says God’s Word, and His Spirit in our hearts agrees thereto, and thank God for the clear light of the Holy Spirit to discern and reject all the devils stumbling-blocks, false prophets hypocrites and serpents.

In The Heart Of My God.

—:o:—

Words by
D. S. Warner

Music by
Allie R. Fisher.

Softly whispered a voice in my mind,
“There’s a heavenly bliss you may find.”
I believed, and my Savior so kind,
Drew me into the heart of my God.

Chorus.

Now transported with glory I sing,
O the joy His salvation doth bring,
I’m redeemed, and with Jesus my King,
I am hid in the heart of my God.

I have entered the home of my soul,
Where the rivers of life ever roll,
Neath the scepter of Love,s sweet control,
I abide in the heart of my God.

O how holy, how calm and how still,
Is my rest in the depths of His will.
And the chords of my heart ever still,
With the joy in the heart of my God.

Come ye wounded, ye guilty, oppressed,
There is balm in the Infinite Breast,
I though the Blood you may enter the rest,
In the heart, in the heart of my God.

O, that all, this dear refuge might know,
Where we smile at each tempest of woe:
And we fear not the rage of the foe,
In the heart, in the heart of my God.

CERTAIN CHURCHES COMPARED.

—:o:—

A very brief comparison between the Church of the first six chapters of Acts, and the popular church of to-day, will show any honest mind, that the two are completely and radically different things. Here is a fair sample. I have before me the “constitution of the First Methodist Episcopal society of the city of Detroit.” It is to lengthy to print here, but I will select a few passages, and by placing them beside the holy Scripture, show how completely anti-Christ the whole concern is. By the way, if it were Christ’s Church in fact, it would be satisfied with bearing His name, instead of adopting one of man’s invention. In the preface the signers express a desire to acquire and enjoy “the power of a Corporation, or Body politic in law.” according to the laws of Michigan. In other words, being doubt-full as to the power and willingness of God to protect them, they take “usage under civil law. 1 Tim. 1:9. Says, the law was not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient; for the ungodly and for sinners; for unholy and profane.”

Section one confers the right “to sue and be sued,” and in general to exercise all the privileges and powers of any person or body in legal matters.

In 1 Cor. 6:1-8. Paul condemns this lawing spirit in the strongest language possible. Read the passage and see for yourself.

Section four says, “the society shall have authority to make by-laws and ordinances for regulating the admission of new members and the election of officers.” In Apostolic days “the Lord added to the Church such as were being saved.” And the Lord “placed the members in the body as it pleased Him.” Christ said, He that entereth not by the door (Himself) into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same IS A THIEF AND A ROBBER.” Make just those inferences here’ beloved, as the Spirit shows in the light of His own truth. Let the sword of the Spirit cut.

Section five says, “The officers shall hold their offices until the third Monday in May of each year.” 1 Eph. 1:22 says, all things in His Church are put under Christ, and “He is the head over all things to the Church.” But of this MAN MADE AFFAIR, called a church, a legal and carnal stature or law seems to be in supreme control; Christ is wholly left out. Common sense would seem to teach that a church whose act of incorporation rules Christ out; cannot be His Church.

Section eight, confers power to levy taxes upon each member, as certain officers may decide to be necessary. Paul’s rule 1 Cor. 16:1, 2. Is, “let every one of you lay by him to store as God hath prospered him.” Could two things differ more clearly? or more widely? No, not even sin and holiness!

No there is, I think, a very serious question arising from these facts as shown in the above, and it is this; what attitude must a man (if he is loyal to Christ) take toward this so called church, and the great popular system of which is a sample and a part” It seems clear to me that every loyal soul must withhold from it all support, direct or indirect; must decline to recognize as the sent of God: any who show no better comission to preach than the authority of such a church, must regard every pe..on engaged in supporting or extending it, as disloyal to Christ, in proportion as he, or she, ought to know better.

And finally, as God has some in it, to whom He says, “Come out of her MY PEOPLE,” – some being God’s people, the loyal soul must, in love to God and His people, warn them by plain example and by plain truth, spoken in love, that indignation and wrath are the inevitable portion of all those who resist God’s eternal decree.

Psalm 2nd vr. 6, I have set my King upon my holy hill of Zion. Even so Lord Jesus, for thou and thou only art worthy, saith my soul.

TRUTH MARCHING ON.

—:o:—

IT is wonderful indeed, how God has revolutionized the thoughts of the people in the last four years, respecting the true character of His Church, and the earthly sensual, and devilish character of the modern human sects. When we began to thunder the wrath of God’s Word against the great mountains of babel confusion, we were met by a howl of opposition from every professed holiness periodical in the land. Our teaching that these corporations of men, were not God’s Church, was regarded as sacrilege.

But God is moving on. Truth cuts its channel through the heaps of ignorance, tradition, and superstition. The preaching of God’s pure Word, relieves the minds of men from the idolitrous regard for things not taught in the Word.

Now we can scarcely find a man in the ranks of holiness editors, and teachers that does not admit, that God’s. Church is wholly distinct from the modern sects.

Duty, of the Harvester, acknowledges that, “There is not one word in the Bible favorable to sects and denominations, but they are the fruits of sin.” Yet he lacks the true manhood, and consistency to come out of them and be separate, as the Word of God commands, but rather thinks that we commit a sin, by renouncing the “fruits of sin.” Isaiah Reed, of the Highway, though very for in the dense fogs of babylon education, has became the “human hood,” of an independant sect, and advocates the necesity of the holy people being free from the anti-holiness sects.

The Christian Voice, or the Banner of Holiness, ..o.. long ago sanctioned the policy of a new southern paper, which was in encourage saved souls to remain out of the sects. The Good Way Editor must either be opening his hears to the truth of Christ against all the sects, or else he is compelled to admit the testimony of them that have escaped out of her, for the sake of holding their support, knowing that if he did not do so he would soon be left without many sanctified supporters; as the holiness forces in Mo. are nearly all out of sect walls.

We find much of the testimony in that paper is outside of the “poor old stranded wreck.”

Under the head of “WATCHMAN WHAT OF THE NIGHT;” in Good Way, of April 11th, Bro. Sanford Baker, a special contributors to that paper, writes freely of the situation of affairs between the holiness cause, in the holiness hating sects of protestantism. He clearly portrays the inevitable antagonism between the wholly sanctified, and the graceless masses that compose the membership of the sects.

Therefore the only alternative that remains for the holy people, is to “come out from among them, and be ye separate.’’

The brother closes with these good sound conclusions. We would just add, that the perfect, unity, harmony, and fellowship, that he speaks of, as soon to be brought about, is already attained by many saints.

Daniel.

I do love the fellowship of God’s children, and feel there should be much praying in behalf of ourselves, and of each other, that the Spirit of oneness, for which Christ prayed, may prevail with those worshipers to be sanctified. Then “the world will believe that thou hast sent me,” and believers will be sanctified, more and more. But in order for the work God would have done, there needs a single object uplifted, toward which every eye must be directed, and in which every heart must be united.

This object must be Christ. Denominational effort has ever failed, and ever will fail, thus to unite the people of God.

The effect of it is rather to distract, divide, confuse, and to draw from Christ to the things that are being lifted up in His place. Instead of the uplifting of the separate churches, all should uplift Christ and Him only. It is the business of the body to uplift the head and obey the head and serve the head. But when we fondly imagine, by exalting a sect, that we really have got something, when we have got nothing, we deceive ourselves and are very weak. Bro. McDonald would permit members from other churches, expelled because of holiness to form new churches, if they cannot unite with Methodist, but methodists have no such excuse. He says “our doctrines, our discipline, our biography, and hymnology, are all on the side of entire sanctification.” Yes, “and a certain man made a great supper and bade many, and sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, to come, that all things are now ready.

“And they all with one consent began to make excuses.” Luke 13:16, 18.

The supper was not good for them, for they would not eat it. Our great High Priest the Head of the Church, has put forth a complete work, which, “is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction for instruction, in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” This is for all the world. — 2 Tim. 3, 16 17. This does not admit of change for improvement.

It will not endure the manipulations of human wisdom merely to prepare it for doctrine and discipline. The Spirit of God only, can apply it, interpret it for soul food. We must have the blessed. Word entire for the people, and “If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rose from the dead.” — Luke 16:31. The Bible is our discipline, and our biography includes the holy ones of all ages, Hallelujah!

I claim membership with Abel, and Noah, and Moses, and Joshua, David, Elijah, Isaiah, Daniel, Peter, John, Paul, Stephen, Luther, Wesley, and all the living and sleeping saints of God, and I am not willing that even a sectarian wall shall separate me from any of them, and God helping me I will never give my aid in erecting one of those barriers between the saints of God and myself.

This light is coming to the people of God and we must be true to the light given. We can receive the light, even if we can not dispense it. This might he called a transition period, and more or less confusion and friction, will prevail for a season, till “My people” comprehend more clearly where they are.

Holiness churches will be the first to crumble. If these souls cannot be bound by a yoke that others constructed, they can be no more really held by one of their own building. “My yoke is easy.”

These things will probably adjust themselves under the head of providence, just as surely as the ark was directed without canoe, spar, or rudder, in the master of waters. I am not alarmed at the things that are seen if only our holiness people keep true to God, and look not too much on each other. These seeming oppositions and contradictions will vanish some day at the touch of Him who baptises all into one body by the same Spirit.

“Comeouters” is applied to many of God’s children as a term of reproach.

Let us see brethren, what it means, and be not moved nor troubled. Some are represented as being afraid of sanctification, lest they should be termed Comeouters. To the law and testimony. “And I heared a voice from heaven saying come out of her my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” DISTINCTIVELY the churches, (sects, denominations) are the only places God’s people were IN and the heavenly voice says COME OUT. When you hear the voice (speaking to your soul) from heaven, and he making plain your way, then it will be time to obey.

Good Way.

AN IMPORTANT DUTY.

 —:o:—

DEAR BRETHREN And Sisters Everywhere: — We are solemnly impressed that there is a great carelessness and forgetfulness upon the part of nearly all our dear Brethren and Sisters, in respect to the duty of getting subscribers for the GOSPEL TRUMPET. We confess the same carelessness on our part. In our intense devotion to the work of preaching, writing, and laboring with souls, the duty of urging men to take the TRUMPET has been much overlooked. But receiving a letter from Bro. Joseph yesterday, urging more attention to this matter, we were led to ask God to help us prosecute this work, with every other good word and work

We went right about It, and the Lord prospered our efforts, and blessed our soul. And now I want to say to all my Brethren, especially yon in the ministry, wake up to the will of God in this matter. Many of you report revivals, with the salvation of scores of souls, yet do not send a name for the paper. Now there is utterly a fault in yon my Brethren, in this thing. Those souls need very much the TRUMPET means of grace. The office equally needs their support. But these two happy ends are not attained through our forgetfulness.

“Bear one anothers burthens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Will you do this Dear Brethren and Sisters. Our Dear Bro. Joseph has assumed a great responsibility. He needs the support of all who love the holy way, and he needs your cooperations in the name and Spirit of Christ, to get the paper to the hungry souls, and the needed means to his hands. Brethren you can get the subscribers if you ask for them. Will you do it? Please do not forget it; they that can’t pay a dollar, can 50 or 25 cents. Send that in Jesus name.

A GLORIOUS DAY AT HOME.

—:o:—

ONE of the most glorious, and happy days of our life and to many of the dear saints, was the 20 day of May. Our dear Savior seemed more precious to our souls than ever before. O how the blessed sweet Spirit did melt our hearts. Our dear brother Keagy from Goshen Ind, who had come into our midst, to visit his daughter, Sister Rhoda; and to seek the glorious fullness, of the blessed Redeemer.

Was in the morning crucified with Christ, and baptised with the Holy Ghost; and healed physically. O what glory filled all the house. There were songs of victory, and shoutings filled the air. And sister Florence, who came in with others that heard, was also melted by the fire, and was sanctified by the Holy Ghost. At noon we repaired to the river side, the beautiful mellow sunlight glittered on the waters that looked as clear as crystal as it swept along o’er the pebbly bottom.

There the two dear souls that had received the baptism of the Holy Ghost, was immersed and came forth shouting praises to Him who had redeemed them by His blood. “Blessed are they who do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the City.”

THL CAMP MEETING AT HUNNEWELL MO. Oct 9th ’83.

—:o:—

DEAR BRETHREN: — In love for you out of a pure heart, we pray God’s peace and grace be multiplied unto you all, abundantly. I will inform you that God is with us in much peace and comfort.

Bro. and Sister Howe, declared themselves openly in meeting free from sects.

They are far more clear, and blest in their testimony than before. Last Sabbath, after hearing a lot of abuse from the Methodist preacher, we all went home with Bro. Rogers, and in the afternoon we had a glorious little prayer meeting.

We also talked over the camp meeting interests. We concluded to invite all the children of God who love the way of truth and holiness, and those in search of this truth, to cooperate with us in this meeting. We need the presence and assistance of all the true lovers of the Lord in this undertaking. And we do most earnestly beseech the brethren everywhere, that can to come and help us.

Also, please let us hear from as many as think in the providence of God, they will be permitted to come with tents; write to us as soon as practical, and let us know. You can correspond with either, Johnathan Rogers, P. F. Howe, G. W. Frisbie, or J. C. Myers. Hunnewell Shelby Co. Missouri.

Battle Greek Mich.

Tuesday April 30th, Bro. J. Cole and myself came to Battle Creek. The next night being their regular meeting, Bro. Cole preached the Word to the little ones.

A dear sister whom we met last winter, in a very close walk with God, had compromised with the enemy of her soul, by giving way to the opposition of her carnal Episcopal parents, and for their sake remaining away from the meetings some months. The result was devils had gained power over her body and tormented her severely. Just before we came God stirred up her soul to say to parents, that henceforth she would obey God. Hearing of our coming, she came where we were, and we told her plainly what her trouble was.

She knew it herself very well. That night she came to the meeting for deliverance. She confessed the evil spirits in her flesh. We laid on hands and commanded them to come forth in the name of Jesus Christ. They were subject through that Almighty name. Though the manifestations were slight. Satan was greatly agitated, some children of the devil fled out in confusion, for fear of their father. One said they would have us arrested, before an hour for thus effecting his father. Well the dear afflicted child of God was delivered. Her sufferings ended; and on the following Sabbath she was wholly sanctified. Just that little act of God’s gracious deliverance, threw that part of the idolatrous city into quite a panic. Certain of the ists — children of the bond woman threatened to arrest us. However we were not disturbed. We continued a week teaching and preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and showing that we must through much tribulation endure to the end. Bro. Cole also teaching and admonishing the little ones to possess all the gifts of their glorious inheritance in Christ Jesus. The dear saints were very much strengthened, and nourished up in the truth. Most all of them claimed through the Spirit, specially those of faith, and wisdom. Some of them having already possessed the gifts of healing and discerning. So this glorious little company are well equiped with the mighty power of the Comforter, and the various gifts communicated by Him. We had very precious meetings. The Holy Anointing from heaven descending upon our souls. The mighty to save has been with them, and though they were left so long without preaching, precious souls have been saved in their meetings.

While there, my dear little Sidney became quite sick with cold, and other trembles. I ask the poor child if he believed the Lord would heal him, he said, yes, and instantly got down upon his knees. Hands were laid on him, and instantly God swept away his little afflictions, his fevered brow was cooled, and the dear child was well, lively and happy. Praise the Lord!

Williamston Mich. May 21st ’85.

I wish to say to the readers of the GOSPEL TRUMPET, that I fully indorse the truth as given in that paper. I have no doubt in my mind of it’s being in line with the Word of God, and a true expose of the real cause of the Spiritual darkness among the masses of professors of Christianity. I have watched closely the movings of the holiness people, for a few years. And I have noticed the different teachings, taught by different papers, but non-connected with the movement, have had such wonderful success, considering the opposition; as those who are in harmony with the teachings of the GOSPEL TRUMPET.

God bless it! and increase it’s circulation, I am glad to see some other papers moving out in the same direction to some extent; but they are not quite ready to take a bold stand against the sects.

My prayer is, that God will open their eyes fully; that they may behold, not only the true Church, but “may begin to open on her enemies, with, hail and fire mingled with blood”.

There are now thousands, who are free from all sects, and are of the Church of the Firstborn, which is the Church of the Living God. She it is that, “looked forth as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners. Having upon her head a crown of twelve stars.”

Glory to God the Lamb! I belong to this Church, and none other. Amen!

Safe in the Lifeboat.

By D. S. Warner.

A New Version.

Light in the darkness, brother, day is at hand,
See o’er the rolling Jordan fair Canaan’s land.
Hark! O my captive brother, bondage is o’er,
Leave the poor old human craft, and pull from the shore.

Chorus.

Pull from the shore brother, pull from the shore,
Heed hot the babel cry, nor yet satan’s roar
Christ is the Lifeboat brother, cling to sect no more.
Leave the poor old stranded wreck, and pull from the shore.

Stay in the Lifeboat brother, all else will fail,
Higher the surges dash, and fiercer the gale.
Heed not the stormy winds, though loudly they roar.
Watch the “bright and morning star,” and pull from the shore.

Bright gleams the morning brother, now we are free,
Hark fogs now disappearing, Jesus we see.
Out in the Ocean of His love, more and more,
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! pull from the shore.

Kalamazoo Mich. April 14th ‘85.

Dear Brethren in Christ: — We are well, saved sanctified, and kept by the power of God, “through faith unto salvation, ready to be revealed in the last times”. Thanks be to God, this morning, for a lively hope in Christ. “For by grace are ye saved, through faith, and that not of yourself, it is the gift of God. Not of works lest any man should boast”. We are glad to get the TRUMPET, for it is food to our souls. We praise the Lord for the good work that is being done among the saints, and that souls are being saved and joined to the Lord, and not to sects. We rejoice that “whom the Son makes free is free indeed.”

Well we are still holding up the pure light of the Gospel to the people, of a perfect salvation free from all sin, Christ is the Body, the Church; the only one that He will own, when He comes in the clouds of glory and the shining host of heaven with Him, to receive His Bride.

By the grace of God and His help, I am going to keep at the feet of my Redeemer, and always keep under the blood.

While we are in this wicked and sinful City, that is full of steeple houses, and sin of all kind, but yet there is a few who are in the narrow way, on the road to glory, and by and by the Master will say, it is enough, come up higher.

Thank God there is enough and to spare in the Fathers store-house, it will never get stale or musty, nor the fountain go dry, but the deeper we go in the fountain the sweeter and better the water of life is to the soul. The more of God we have in us, the more God-like we become. So let us all go down deeper in humility, and be raised in all the glory, and power of the Holy Ghost, which being shed abroad in our hearts, we then, are wholly sanctified, by a second work of grace. O praise the Lord for the victory in my soul, over sin, the flesh, and the devil, in spite of all combined power of the enemy of our soul. But we must keep under the blood, and filled with the Holy Ghost, and the fire of God’s love burning in our souls. My soul says praise God from whom all blessings flow.

The conflicts are strong, but the stronger is ruling in my soul. Tell the dear saints to pray for us at Kalamazoo. To God he all the glory! Amen! and Amen!

Our love to all the saints.

Dear Brethren: — Grace, and peace, be multiplied unto you, and all the TRUMPET family; through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, according as He hath given unto us, all things that pertain unto life, and Godliness, through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue. Amen!

I am well and saved by the grace of God, through Jesus Christ our Savior. Glory to God forever and ever!

Yours and Christs, saved and sanctified.

A. J. Kilpatrick.

Hendersonville, Pa.

To the dear saints in Christ I have been a reader of the GOSPEL TRUMPET for two years, and fully endorse its teaching; knowing that it is in accord with God’s Word. I feel impressed to give in my testimony; “I am out on the promise, and under the blood.” And out of all human creeds and organizations, leaning on the arm of Omnipotence, and find in Him my all and in all, my salvation from all worldly amusements, Church festivals etc.

Bro. Clayton held a 9 days meeting in a hall near by. We had a grand meeting, the Lord was presant in power; the enemy was put to rout. An M. E. priest came in under the garb of holiness, bidding us God’s speed, and began to plead for sects; the sop was given him and he went out. We are now holding meetings in the Hall, twice a week, which is largely attended part of the time. My love to all the saints.

Your sister saved and sanctified.

Dear Brethren: — My testimony this morning is, the Lord saves me to the uttermost. I am sanctified, and purified.

Although we are living in perilous times, there is one who is able to help us in every time of need. Praise the Lord, O my soul! Daniel was cast into the den of lions, and God delivered him. So will I trust in my God, for constant deliverance.

May God bless all the TRUMPET family,

Attie Smith.

Dear Brethren: — I feel led of the Lord, to tell some of my experience. I do not take the GOSPEL TRUMPET, but bless the Lord I have had it to read, and it is real food to my soul. I am one of the Lord’s poor, and I rejoice that I am a part of the Lord’s Body, the Church. Christ himself being the chief corner stone.

There are seven here, that are determined to leave the sects, and be free in Christ. Dear brethren the sects are doing all they can to destroy me, and the cause of Christ. They cast my name out as evil, and have threatened to egg me, it I did not cease to preach. But I will hearken unto God, rather than man.

Praise the Lord, through every trial I am growing stronger, and I can say with Brother Paul, that these light afflictions work out for us a far more exceeding, and eternal, weight of glory. Praise the Lord forever! Amen! Your brother saved by the blood.

Dear Brethren: — I would like to say through the TRUMPET that I am saved from all sin, and kept by the power, just walking with Jesus each moment and hour.”

I want to say to the glory of God, that I am saved from the Free Methodist sect.

I was once so charmed by them, that I said in ray blindness if they went to hell I would go with them. But God said come out of her, and glory to His holy name! I obeyed Him, and now I am happy and free.

My Savior has done so much for me,
I love to tell the story;
I have got salvation full and free,
O glory! glory!! glory!!!

O blow the TRUMPET, let it sound;
I’ll, tell the wondrous story,
Once I was lost, but now I’m found,
O glory! glory!! glory!!!

Dear Brethren: — I want to tell you what Jesus has done for me. I am saved. He saves me each day. All glory to God! I belong to the “Church of the Firstborn.” which is represented here. But I am the only one wno dare to stand true to God here in Antrim. God has called me to preach His Word: the powers of darkness are against me. But praise God I shall stand and fight for Him, and His truth.

Pray for me that. I may stand fast in the liberty of Christ. Your Bro. saved and sanctified.

Dear Brethren: — Glory to God this morning for complete victory in my soul, and salvation full and free, that keeps me day by day! Glory to God for deliverence from all sin, both committed and inherited. I feel this morning that there is no condemnation resting upon me. Glory to God! I am free in Jesus just now.

I have passed through many fiery trials, but God has said, My grace is sufficient for you. Oh I do praise God He gives me grace to endure all persecutions. There has been but a few saints here, we assembled ourselves together in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to worship our Father in Heaven; and glory to His name He has been with us. We have prayed most earnestly for the unsaved, and glory to God He has answered our prayers, they are coming to Jesus, our little band is increasing. The Lord says what is not of God will come to naught. We know we are founded upon the Solid Rock: we know God is for its, and He. is more than all that can life against us. Dear saints, pray for us, that we continue in the faith.

I am saved and sanctified, by the precious blood of Jesus, just now, and kept from all sin. O I do praise God for His wonderful goodness and mercy to me. O I cannot praise Him enough for giving me such a salvation, that frees me from all sin, and keeps me straight for God. He gives me power over the enemy; for the blessed Word of God says that nothing shall by any means hurt us. Praise His holy name for the precious promises He has left us. I do love my precious Savior the best of all, and I love to do His blessed will. May the Lord bless every clear saint every where, especially the dear TRUMPET family. God bless you in your good work of spreading salvation. O I do praise God this evening for the blessed comforter I have in my heart; that gives me peace and joy in all trials. Dear Brethren: — I will tell you to-day that Jesus is my Savior, and that He saves me now: blessed be His holy name! God in His love, is teaching me daily, more and more of the evil of sectism, and the call to come out of her, (babylon,) seems more clear than ever.

I believe that if some of you would come out here and stop a week or so, God would be glorified, and souls built up. I long to see you, beloveds, and I will pray God every day, (that He may send you out here soon,) until He says it is enough.

Yours in Jesus.

Dear saints in God. I feel lead of the Spirit, to tell the children of God, what he hath done for me. I am free from all sect, free from sin, washed in the blood of Christ, sanctified wholly Jesus satisfies my longing. Hallelujah to his name! He has also healed my body. I was taken sick, and called a physician. But I ought not to trust God’s temple ip an earthly physicians hand, so I sent for two of the sisters, who prayed and laid hands on me, and the Lord healed me. I arose in the name of Jesus, and went about my work, and went to the meeting that night, and gave God all the Glory. Your Sister saved in Jesus.

Dear Brethren: — May God bless you abundantly. We are now on a little claim in S. W. Kansas. Bro. John Alexander, and I held a week’s meeting, good order and some interest.

I hope the Lord will send you to the great convention at Chicago, May 20.

Sound an alarm on God’s holy Mountain. The holiness cause is doomed to die out everywhere, if the people do not go forward in all the truth. At the Laclede Assembly the Spirit was not permitted to lead, fully. One woman was not allowed to speak, because she taught the people to “observe all things, whatsoever Christ commanded.”

Praise God I am saved just now.

Dear Brethren: — I praise God this morning, that we are all saved, with an everlasting salvation.

We are having glorious meetings, and perfect victory. Glory to God! He is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. My soul is lit up with the constant glow of the Sacred tire, of the Eternal Spirit

Glory to His name! for ever, and ever, Amen!

Your Sister, saved and sanctified wholly.

Dear Brethren in Christ: — I praise God for salvation. I tell you when I see so much of the abominations of babylon, I am so glad I am free from her. I lived about twelve years, half blinded, by her delusiveness. But praise God, when He delivered me from her thraldom; He opened my eyes, so that I can see the terrible condition I was in, and I do praise Him. Glory to His holy name, for ever!

The glory of God fills my soul, so that I can scarcely write. Glory to Jesus! When I was allmost famished for Spiritual food; Praise God! the old sect minister was removed, and Bro’s. Speck and Michaels was sent to give us the light, and praise God I began to see that God truly had a remnant left.

I was glad to walk in the light, when it was showed unto me, and I am saved to-day, and walking in the light as God reveals it unto me. We have glorious meetings. The Spirit of God is manifested in a wonderful manner in the flesh, and though we have wolves in sheeps clothing, coming in among us, to over-throw the weak, and sow seed of discord.

But praise the Lord for victory in my soul, and for a discerning spirit, that we can tell when we are amongst, false Brethren. I pray God to give them honest hearts that they may come out in the true Light, freedom and liberty that there is in Christ Jesus.

Now Brethren, pray for us, that we may be ever led by the Holy Spirit, and be firm for Jesus, not only one day, but for all time May the grace of God dwell richly within you all. Amen!

Your Sister, saved and sanctified.

Dear Brethren: — God bless you. I have been gone from home for some time, since I wrote to you before. Glory to Jesus forever! Amen!

When I came home, your card was waiting for me. O dear brother, it does me so much good, to hear from God’s dear saints. Oh my brother I just felt our spirits run together, the moment I took your card in my hand. God bless you! I know we have fellowship one with another. Glory to Jesus forever! I am well soul and body. Saved from all sin, glory to Jesus forever! Amen!

Well praise God, for full and free salvation. I have been six miles west of Humboldt, and God was with us in strength and power

I was glad to hear you say you would ho glad to see me, and come to Kansas. There is a great work to be done here in Kan. Oh I would love to see you very much. I pray the blessed Lord to send brother Fisher and brother Warner out here. But His will be done. On account of sin, and the devil, the carnal mind, and prejudice of the people, my congregation was small. But glory to God the Holy Spirit is not confined to the large gatherings. Praise His name forever! The last night I was there, I wanted all that would meet me in heaven, to come and give me their hand. There were some in the house, that would not come. So I went back to them, and there was one man and woman there who hid their hands behind them, and would not shake hands with me.

So after we were through shaking hands, we knelt down and invoked the blessings of God upon us, and the Lord led me to pray for those two. God wonderfully helped me to pray. Oh! but the carnal mind was stirred, in that man, till he could hardly restrain himself. After meeting was over, he came to me and invited me to come and see him. May the Lord have mercy on me, and keep me straight, at the risk of my life. Pray for me, and the God of peace be with you all.

I went then, to Humboldt Kan. and the Lord enabled me to give the straight Word on sanctification, and sectism. Glory to God!

I am just as free as heaven, Praise His name. I came to Earlton last night, where Sister Benedict has started a meeting. Glory to God. Sister B. is straight for God, and filled with the Holy Ghost.

When I went to Scott, she was class-leader in a sect, called the Union Holiness Church, and she had lost her power. But God helped me to show her the blackness of all sects, and that Christ condemned all divisions, sects, and schisms. Glory to Jesus.

Well she was enabled to cut the last guy rope, and then she sailed for the glory of God. She is a power in the hands of God.

The power of God was with us last night, there were seven or eight at the altar. One was sanctified, and some of the worst of the opposers, said they were coming, and wanted to be sanctified. There were eight or ten who gave testimony that they were convicted for holiness, I am expecting twentyfive or thirty to be saved. God is mighty. Praise His name! Pray for me much. May God bless you. Write to me. I am saved, and sanctified

Your brother in Christ.

Dear Brethren in Christ: — I thank my Lord that I am saved just now, and trusting in Him.

I thank God for what He has done for me. I was a drunkard, from a boy, up to the time that the Lord sent His people to Grand Junction to preach His truth. I went to hear it, and I thank God that I gave Him my heart, and accepted His call

And I praise the Lord Jesus, that He cleansed me from all strong drink, and tobacco, and filthiness of the flesh. Praise God! I went on to perfection, and received the Holy Ghost, which rooted out all carnality. I praise Jesus that I can live without committing sin. Praise His holy name forever. He has put perfect love in my heart. Sinners, and all who are in the sect Churches, give God your heart, and He will take you out of babylon, and set you on the solid Rock Christ Jesus. He will give you Spiritual life, and then you can praise Him forever.
