ARE YOU READY TO MEET HIM?

_____

Are you ready, friend, to meet Him,
Who has done so much for you?
Are you ready, friend, to greet Him,
When he comes and calls for you?
Life is short, and time is passing,
Never to return again,
All around us they are going
From among the sons of men.

Are you ready, friend, to meet Him?
Are your treasures all above?
Are you ready, friend, to greet Him,
Who is Truth and Light and Love?
Is your lamp all trimmed and burning
With a clear and crystal glow?
All around us they are going:
Are you ready, friend, to go?

Are you ready, friend, to meet Him,
Should he call for you to-night?
Are you ready, friend, to greet Him.
Should become ere morning light?
Have you lived for Christ the Savior?
Lived an honest life and true?
All around us they are going:
Soon he’ll come and call for you.

— Laura Geer.

__________

HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD.

_____

THY people shall be all righteous.” Isa. 60:21.

The prophet speaks of a time that was to come when God’s people were to be all righteous.

RIGHTEOUS: Just, according to the divine law. Applied to persons, it denotes one who is holy in heart and observant of the divine commands in practice. — Webster. Just: in the evangelical sense is righteous, religious; influenced by a regard to the divine laws of God; or living in exact conformity to the divine will. — Webster. Hence, in accordance with those definitions. “Thy people shall be all righteous;” living in conformity to the divine command and will.

God’s people are all righteous: Just, holy, obedient to the will of their God. WHY? Because God 0ur Creator and Savior is holy. “For I the Lord which sanctify you am holy” Lev. 21:8. “Exalt ye the Lord your God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy.” Psa. 99:5. “Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like unto thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?” Ex. 15:11. “The Lord is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.” Psa. 45:17. And to be like him we must be holy in all our ways and works. “And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one even as we are. Jno.” 17:11. God is holy and we must be like him, to please him.

JESUS IS HOLY.

“For such a high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens.” Heb 7:26. “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God. let us hold fast our profession. For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities: but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” 4:14, 15. “And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin“ 1 jno. 3:5. “Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth.” 1 Pet. 2:22. “For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together.” Acts 4:27. “By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. 30. To be holy is to be without sin and as we are to be like Jesus, 2 Jno. 8, we must be without sin too.

“Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.” 1 Jno. 3:6, 9.

“We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.” 5:18.

THE ANGELS ARE HOLY.

“When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory.” Mat. 25:31. Cornelius, was warned from God by a holy angel to send for Peter. Acts 10:22. “Whosoever shall be ashamed of me and my words, in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of the Father with the holy angels.” Mark 8:38.

HEAVEN IS HOLY.

“God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.” Psa. 47:8. God’s throne is holiness. “But I say unto you, Swear not at all, neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne.” Mat. 5:34. Heaven is God’s throne and his throne is holy. “The Lord is in his holy temple, the Lord’s throne is in heaven.” Psa. 11:4. “Look down from thy holy habitation and bless thy people Israel.” Deut. 26:15. “Look down from heaven, and behold from the habitation of thy holiness and of thy glory.” Isa. 63:15. Heaven is holy and all the inhabitants of heaven are holy and no one is admitted into heaven without holiness. “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.” Heb. 12:14. No one need expect to get into heaven without holiness. Heaven is a holy place prepared for holy people. The inhabitants and associations of heaven are holy and have no affinity and no room for the reception of unholiness. No other nature but holiness would assimilate with the nature of heaven; hence would not endure the glorious theme and nature of heaven, holiness, praise God! any more than holiness can assimilate with hell.

GOD’S CHURCH IS HOLY.

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word. That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.” Eph. 5:25-27. “Thou art all fair, my love, there is no spot in thee.” Cant. 4:7.

THE CHURCH AS A TEMPLE IS HOLY.

“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.” 1 Cor. 3:16, 17. “What? know ye not? that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?” 6:19. “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. 20. “But the Lord is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.” Hab. 2:20. “And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” 2 Cor. 6:16. “In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.” Eph. 2:21, 22. God’s temple is his holy people and is a holy temple. “Hear, all ye people; hearken, O earth, and all that therein is: and let the Lord God be witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple.” Mic. 1:1. And is built for his magnificent holiness to dwell in and admit nothing but holiness.

GOD’S CHURCH AS A HOUSE IS HOLY.

“But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.” 1 Tim. 3:15. “Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.” 1 Pet. 2:5. “But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope unto the end.” Heb. 3:6. “For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eterhity, whose name is holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” Isa. 57:15. “Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O Lord, forever.” Psa. 93:5.

Those scriptures teach that His house is his church and He dwelleth in his house which is holy, and which becometh his house forever. It became his house in the apostles’ days and forever, which includes to-day as much as in the apostles’ day. Praise God! Consequently, God’s house, or church, is holy to-day the same as then. Those churches (?) that are not holy and do not believe in holiness, are not God’s church and not God’s dwelling place.

GOD’S CHURCH AS HIS BODY IS HOLY.

“And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.” Eph. 8:22, 23. “Who now rejoice in my suffering for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ for his body’s sake, which is the church.” Col. 1:24. Here the church is his body. “For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.” Eph. 5:30, 1 Cor. 12:29. “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some pastors and teachers: for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” Eph. 4:11-13.

We, the members, who compose the church are to come unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.

IN HOLINESS. “Because it is written, Be ye holy; for. 1 am holy.” 1 Pet. 1:16.

IN RIGHTEOUSNESS. “He that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.” 1 jno. 3:7.

IN PURITY. “Every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.” 1 Jno. 3:3.

IN LOVE. “And walk in love as Christ also loved us.” Eph. 5:2. “No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.” 1 Jno. 4:12. “But whoso keepeth his words, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.” 2:5.

IN WALK. “He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also to walk, even as he walked.” 1 Jno. 2:6.

THE CHURCH AS A CITY IS HOLY.

“And they shall call thee, The city of the Lord, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.” Isa. 60:14. “And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called, the city of righteousness [holiness, justice and goodness,] the faithful city.” Isa. 1:26. “Thus saith the Lord; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth and the mountain of the Lord of hosts, the holy mountain.” Zech. 8:3. “Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean.” Isa. 52:1.

WHAT IS THE HOLY CITY or Zion? “But ye are come unto Mt. Zion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels; to the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven; and to God the Judge of all; and to the spirits of just men made perfect.” Heb. 12:22, 23. Mt. Zion, the holy city, is the church, which are written in heaven; which is composed of the just (justified) made perfect (sanctified). “There is a river the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the Most High.” Psa. 46:4. 87:1-3.

THE CHURCH AS HIS BRIDE IS HOLY.

“And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the Bride the Lamb’s wife. And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,” etc. Rev. 21:9, 10. The bride is the holy city and the holy city is the church. Heb. 12:22, 23.

THE CHURCH AS A MOUNTAIN IS HOLY.

“Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.” Psa. 48:1, 2. “And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.” Isa. 2:3. The mountain of the Lord is the house of the God of Jacob. “They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain.” Isa. 11:9. “Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer tor all people.” Isa. 56:7. “So shall ye know that I am the Lord your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.” Joel 3:17.

(To be continued.)

BE UP AND DOING.

_____

I feel led of the Lord to write a few lines on sewing our God. Dear ones, we cannot do too much for our blessed Master who suffered, bled and died that we might have eternal life. And when he opens up the way for us to work for him, we should not neglect our duty; for lo there are hundreds of poor souls lost in sin, groping along in darkness, and going on head-long into eternal punishment without knowing the love of God, while we might be means or instruments in the Lord’s hands to rescue a few at least. And whatsoever we do for God no matter how little, it is great in his sight. Let us every one keep low down at the feet of Jesus. Oh souls be up and doing, we have no time to spare; for this life is short and uncertain; and truly the harvest is great and the laborers are few. We know not the hour or the time when the Lord will come to call us home. Here the question arises, Are we ready to meet him with a clear conscience and say, Lord we have followed thee in all thy ways; we have not missed helping poor souls when we had opportunities. Oh may God help each one of his little ones to live a pure and holy life in this present world, even as did our Lord Jesus. May we measure up to a Bible standard, and God grant that we may have on the helmet of salvation, the shield of faith and the sword of truth. Dear ones, we cannot spend too much time in secret prayer and studying of God’s Word. May God bless these few lines to the good of some souls. Amen. Yours, saved, sanctified and kept by power divine,

Eva M. Haskins.

TESTIMONIES.

“Thy Testimonies are Wonderfifl.” – Psa. 119:129.

__________

Fresno, Calif.

The Lord is still my healer. We have been having a meeting for the Lord here in Fresno, for almost three weeks, and during that time the Lord has wonderfully blessed me and healed me of catarrh, which I have had for several years. Three years ago I used medicine and got relief for a while but it didn’t last long. But praise the dear lord, he has healed me perfectly this time and I know he has done his work well. He is a physician that never lost a case. Praise his holy name forever!

Your true sister in Jesus,

Dear Beloved Saints of God: We are glad to report victory through the precious name of Jesus. We are living in this blessed evening light of holiness. Praise the dear Lord! We are glad to say that we are of the holy remnant. We know that the Lord wonderfully saves and keeps us free from all sin, and we know our names are written in heaven in the Lamb’s book of life. Praise the Lord! We are four bold soldiers for Jesus, and we have united all our combined strength in the mighty name of Jesus, against Satan and every thing unlike God. And we know when we trust God we are trusting one who is able and does answer our prayers and brings us out more than conquerors over Satan and all his wicked devices. Praise God! Oh how we love this beautiful way of holiness, and this blessed evening light! We expect by the grace of God to run this Christian race with perfect patience. We are glad that we have learned to take the Lord for our physician, that when we were afflicted we called on the Lord and he wonderfully healed us. Praise his dear name! Dear saints, pray for us that we may ever stand true to the Lord. Your sisters in Christ Jesus kept saved, sanctified and satisfied by the wonderful power of God.

The saints here are poor, and those coming ought to come prepared to support themselves and others. Bring tent and things for camping on the ground or in rooms. Those worthy will be cared for. Bro. Warner is to be here. Bro. Sheldon and company are expected and any whom the dear Lord may send. The dear Lord is wonderfully working, hunting and fishing, and the city being shaken and signs and wonders following.

We are glad to learn that the Cheshire grove meeting was a success.

We are in need of some good consecrated brethren who are willing to give their service free, to come here and cut wood for our winter’s use at the office. Those who feel led to work for the Lord in this way, write to us before coming.

We now have Scriptural Mottoes and verses, size 11×14 inches, printed on colored paper, in large type, that can be read at a distance of fifty to one hundred feet. Suitable for posting in public places, offices, homes, etc. Price by mail 20 cts. per doz.

In answer to questions concerning anointing with oil for healing of the body, would say: The oil to be used is olive oil. See Divine Healing of Soul and Body. Anoint the afflicted part of the body when it is convenient to do so, when not, anoint the forehead, and head, and God can apply the healing power to the body as needed.

A tabernacle is needed in Grand Rapids, Mich, for continuous city work during the summer season. Also if any having tents who are not going to use them, if you please, send them here to us during the camp meeting, and we will return them after meeting closes as desired. We would like a dozen. Let us know at once. This work is carried on by trusting God

THE FRISCO, ARK., HOME AND SCHOOL.

Dear Ones: We feel led to write a few lines in regard to the Home and School at this place. The school is going on and the work on the house is moving on, but owing to the busy time of year and the close times it has been moving slowly. But the dear Lord is supplying all our needs in the way of building material. We are on the ground and have dear Bro. Fly’s children here and are taking the best care of them that we can with our limited supply of room and other things, and the dear Lord is blessing our souls in the work. There are several children of the dear workers that are wanting to come as soon as the Home is ready to receive them, and we are praying earnestly for God to send the means that we may take in as many as possible; and we know the Lord has called us to this work, to help relieve the dear ones that are in the field, and thus help spread the gospel. The saints here are poor in this world’s goods and our means are short. Now if any of the dear ones feel led to help in this work, God will bless the effort and it will help to move on the work. If any can help in the way of provisions, clothing or bedding, it will be thankfully received and your souls will be blessed. Any thing that can be used, whether new or partly worn, will be received with much thanks to God.

We are here to answer all questions in regard to the country that the dear ones may want to know; but please send stamp for answer, as we have been unable to answer some on account of not having the stamps. We expect Bro. Collins and Bro. Fly and their company here to the camp meeting, and whoever else the Lord leads. Now, dear ones, pray much for the work at this place, and for us. Your brother and sister, saved and separated to the work of the Lord,

Geo. F. Moody and Wife.

Dear Saints: We are yet in the great battle for truth, and our God is causing us to triumph. For nearly a year our work has been in Ripley Co., Mo. and Randolph Co., Ark. We have visited quite a number of places, and can truly testify that the present truth and precious light is steadily advancing, and preparing many souls for heaven. We give God praise. We have just closed a very effectual meeting at this place. Much truth has been given and relished by this dear people. Many a gloomy countenance is now bright, and many a dark heart is now light. Grooms, Ky., July 24. 1895.

Dear Saints Scattered Abroad: God bless you all abundantly. Amen. The meeting at Watersville school house was very good. A few souls were saved; six were buried with Christ in baptism; and we believe others will get saved in the near future. We had meeting at Spruce, on the 4th of July. Quite a large congregation assembled, and the Lord blessed us wonderfully. Praise his holy name! In the afternoon during children’s meeting, six of them came and bowed at the mercy seat and gave their hearts to God, and were gloriously saved. To God be all the glory. We then went to Spout Springs and commenced meeting in a school house, but after a few services, the people not being willing to receive ’’sound doctrine,” gave us orders to move the meeting, which we did in the name of Jesus leaving the dust off our feet for a witness against them. Having two invitations to other places near by, we went to a private house, and held meeting a week with good interest and success. A few were saved; and on Sunday at the close of the meeting, nine happy saints were baptized, and the Lord witnessed from heaven by his Holy Spirit that he was weil pleased; nearly all came up out of the water shouting the praises of God. Praise his name! From there we went to Bro. Griggs and had meeting a few nights with perfect victory in the name of Jesus. The saints were much strengthened, and some added to the number. May the Lord bless and keep them. We then came to Johnson Station and held meeting over Sunday where a very large crowd of people met together to hear the Word; which the Lord wonderfully helped us to speak in the power of the Holy Ghost. Monday night ten came to the altar of prayer, most of which I believe were saved. Praise the Lord! The work here is moving along very nicely, but more help is much needed. All in reach of this place remember that we expect to have a grove or assembly meeting near Grooms, beginning Sept. 1st. All are invited to come in Jesus’ name. Yours in Him,

Dear Saints, Greeting: We are happy to report that we are having the victory in our souls. Since we left the Grand Junction camp meeting, we came to Southern Ind. Jennings Co., started the battle in the name of Jesus at the Oak grove school house. From there we went to little York, Ind. held meeting, and then to Vernon school house, and then to Samuel Wilson’s grove, and from

there to Crothersville. The Lord has owned and blessed his word as it has gone forth in the dear name of Jesus, cutting off those that were not willing to measure to the Bible standard, and strengthening those that were honest with themselves and with their God. In the above meetings there were about forty consecrations in all, some for pardon and some for sanctification. Seventeen dear ones obeyed the blessed Lord in the ordinance of baptism. We pray God that they may prove true to Him walking in the light as he lets it shine upon their path. The little ones where we have gone preaching the word seem to be on the forward move for God; the Lord bless them all. Many thanks to them for their kindness to us while among them. The meeting will close here to night. We go East from here to Bro. Peak’s grove to commence a meeting tomorrow night. This is a new place; the present truth has not been preached there. We ask your prayers that precious souls may be saved in this evening time, for we are in perilous times. Dear laborers in the vineyard, put forth every effort in the name of Jesus that dear souls may be rescued from the powers of the devil. One deluded soul got up in meeting and declared that God had showed them a light, warning them not to join holiness. I replied, no one can join, and the light spoken of was from the pit of hell. One servant of the devil, under the garb of a preacher said he sinned every moment of the day, and even while sleeping; and yet dear souls are willing to give of their means to support such instruments of the devil. Oh that dear souls would take warning! Study the word, for the time has come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 2 Tim. 4:3. 4. “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.” When you think of us, dear saints, breathe a prayer in our behalf. Yours all on the altar,

F. Rosenberry, and W. H. Miller.

Andersontown, Md , July 18. 1895.

Dear Trumpet Readers: God bless and keep you all. Amen. We are glad to tell you that we are still saved in Jesus, and out in the battle constantly. It has been some time since we last reported, but we have not been idle. We were in Massachusetts about five weeks and held two tabernacle meetings. From there we went to Paterson, N. J., where we spent a week with Bro. and Sister Frey; found them out of sectism, and toiling for the Master. Bro. Frey has a mission on Main street and Sister Frey has a mission in Hilburn, N. Y. Our stay there was a very precious season, one which we shall long remember because of the blessings of heaven on our souls, as we went from place to place, preaching and singing and telling of the goodness of God and his power to save. I will tell you a little of our work while there.

We helped Bro. Frey a few night in his work, and also visited the Rescue Mission two nights, where we were called upon to sing, and talk to the people, and the Lord blessed our souls in telling the poor fallen men of the power of God to save their souls. On Tuesday night Bro. and Sister Frey, wife and I, and Sister Siens, all went to New York City, to visit the slums of our great American city. We got off the train at Jersey City and went across the river on the ferry boat. Sang a few songs on the boat which seemed to greatly interest the people and opened the way for us to distribute a number of tracts. The first thing of note on entering the slums was a group of about forty children from one to six or seven years, all dancing to the music of an organ grinder. This sight touched our hearts. Under the filth and rags of these dear little ones were souls which must either sparkle with Jesus in heaven or spend their eternity with the lost. And we thought, a what grand thing in would be if we only had a home to take them to and induce their parents to let us take them and rear them for heaven. I fully believe that there is a glorious work to be done on that line.

The first place we visited was the Chinese Mission. Here we found a number that had been converted to Christianity, and some that seemed to be real devoted children of God. In this mission there are teachers to teach the Chinese the English language, and a converted Chinaman to preach to them in their own language. We were introduced to the minister whose name is Fung Y. Mow. We had a talk with him and he told us about his people, and their work there in the city. He then took us through the Chinese part of the city. We visited the Josh House where they worship their god. While in there it seemed that we were over in China. How strange the sights, and how strange to think that in our land, the boasted land of the free, there are men that are in bondage to gods of stone and earth! We did not stay here long, as they were having a meeting. We then went to their first and second class restaurants and saw them cook, and their way of eating; then we went through one of their theaters. Of course we could not understand their language but we could see something of their life and customs. We could not stay long in a place, for the awful fumes of tobacco and opium. In one building that we went through near the top, passing through a dark hall, we looked into a room which was dark and gloomy; the only light in the room was a little light in the center of the bed on which we could see the forms of two persons, each with a long opium pipe, dead drunk on the awful drug. Oh how awful! I really believe that this was the most hellish sight I ever saw. Really it seemed as though you were in the borders of hell itself. And I thought of there being so many that talk of going to China to convert the heathen; while here on our own soil there are heathen just as far from God as those in the very center of China, and in my very soul I feel a real stir for the home missionary work. Why go to native China when we have a China here? Dear ones, there are millions of poor lost souls here in our American cities bound in awful darkness, sinking down to hell. Oh who is God laying his hand upon for the rescue work in our cities? God help you to go forth in Jesus’ name and you will find plenty of missionary work to do.

We visited the city rescue mission; sang and testified for Jesus, and one of the rescue band took us through the houses of ill-fame. Here we went in the name of Jesus with our lives in God’s hands, six of us in company from one building to another, from room to room, going right into the rooms of these poor fallen girls. And as we sang the beautiful songs of Zion, and told them of Jesus and how he had saved us and was anxious to show them how he loved them, the poor souls melted to tears and some asked us to pray for them and promised to leave this life of sin. And had we only a home for the fallen I am sure there could be many delivered out of these awful dens. We are praying God to raise up a rescue home here in the East, a place where these dear souls can be taken and homed; and we fully believe the time is near when it will be so.

We are at present in this place holding a tabernacle meeting, and looking to Jesus for a good work to be done. Pray for us, dear ones, that God may use us much to his glory. Our company at present is Bro. B. F. Weikel, Bro. Louis Noble of this place, Sister Nora Seins, wife and myself. We are having precious meetings and God is with us in power. To his dear name be all the glory. Yours in the one body,

W. J. Henry, B. F. Weikel and Co.

Dear Saints of the Living God: I will testify to the goodness of God in saving me from my sins and giving me victory over all that once bound me and caused me to fall and be a reproach to the cause of Christ. I became willing to live for the Lord alone. I consecrated all to him and since then I am all given up to his will, following as he leads me. I find it pays to serve the Lord, and I am so thankful for a salvation that keeps me through everything. Oh what a great deliverance God has given me! And I am determined to live for God. I do praise his dear name for what he has done for me. I just do enjoy living for the Lord. I am sixteen years old and intend to serve him all my life. Father, mother and my little sister are saved. There are none of the saints living in this neighborhood except those of our family. The Lord does wonderfully bless and keep me day by day, and the way grows brighter, praise the Lord. I ask an interest in the prayers of God’s children that I may ever be humble. Yours all on the altar,

Dear Saints: We are truly thankful to the Father for victory over all sin, and so sweetly we abide in the vine by faith in the son of God. Though alone in this wicked city and surroundings, we are kept at work for Jesus and the cause. Through many afflictions, privations, trials, persecutions, we do feel to say deep down in our souls, Jesus is our all sufficiency and strong tower. Amen. We attended the meetings at Fresno, where we met some warm hearts, full of love; and we were very much strengthened in the faith as also the body. We would be very glad to meet with any that feel the call to share with the hardships and privations in the work of the Lord here. Lord, send whom thou will. The report of camp-meeting (27th of June Trumpet) was a great source of joy to even us away out here. Yours in the one body the church of God, sanctified,

Dear Saints of God: I feel like writing and telling what wonderful things the Lord has been doing for me in healing my body and also increasing my faith, for which I give him all the glory. I had felt the need of stronger faith and also felt it was God’s will for me to have a special gift of faith. When I went to camp meeting I went praying that God would give me the desire of my heart, and while there he gave me witness he had done so, and that I would have to be tried. Well praise God, the trial came the same day I returned home from camp meeting. I was taken very sick. My throat began to get very sore and grew worse all the time, until my suffering became very great. On Friday my daughter wrote to the Trumpet family requesting them to pray for me on Saturday afternoon. I felt some better for a few moments; was then taken worse than ever. At night was taken with dreadful pain in my throat; could not speak nor swallow. Sunday morning I felt God wanted me to send to Allegan for an elder to come and anoint me. Brother and Sister Pike came and obeyed James 5, 14, and all glory to God, the work was done. I was ma.de every whit whole. O praise God forever! I got the increase of faith and God got the glory. Hallelujah! Now dear ones, I want to say to you when you are asking God for an increase of faith, be sure you are willing to be tried in God’s way. It means so much to say, “Thy will, not mine, be done.” How many times we fail to learn the precious lessons God tries to teach us, because we fail to trust him! O may God help his children to trust him in all things, knowing that he does all things well, and will withhold no good thing from them that walk uprightly. Pray for me that I may ever be found low at the feet of Jesus.

Your saved sister,

Rose Wilcox.

_____

MY CHRISTIAN EXPERIENCE.

Boyce, La.

Dear Saints of God and Trumpet Readers: May the blessing of God rest upon you all. I feel led by the Spirit of God, to write something for my blessed Master by giving a short sketch of my life and Christian experience. I was raised in the southern part of Rapides Parish, a a distance of about thirty-five miles from my present home. This section of the country is thickly dotted with schools and sect churches. The Missionary Baptist and Methodist Episcopals being the leading denominations. My parents were both members of the latter, and as a natural consequence I grew up to think that was right and that nothing was superior in the way of church. So feeling that God had for Christ’s sake pardoned all my sins, I thought some denomination had to be joined and therefore I joined the M. E. sect while in my thirteenth year, and remained there for more than twelve years. But in the meantime I lost the real peace and joy that once filled my soul, because I failed to go on unto perfection, as taught in Heb. 6:1. And indeed did not know it was possible for anyone to make this grand and glorious step, for all the preachers that I heard taught to the contrary. Yet when I joined this sect the minister said, “Dost thou renounce the devil and all his works, the vain pomp and glory of the world, with all covetous desires of the same, and the carnal desires of the flesh, so that thou wilt not be led by them?” And I said, “I renounce them all.” Now the very man that had me to answer this question preached that it was impossible to do it. So when I did wrong I thought it was a natural occurrence, and so it is for one who is not fully saved. But I did not think much about it for I could see the whole sect so far as my observation would measure, was in the same condition, and I would do no worse than most of them. For they would go to town and take a drink of whisky, and so would I; they would let their tempers and angry passions run away with them and cause them to say and do things very wrong, and so would I. Sometimes some of the preachers would go to parties, and occasionally I did too, but they did not dance, neither did I. The old members did not often attend these places but they would give what they called a nice sociable, and I would attend them. In fact the only difference was they would lead in prayer when they went to meeting, and I did not, though I would have done this, for I always thought it was right to pray; but in a sectarian dead formality it is never considered proper to pray in public or do anything else unless you are called upon, and I being young was never called upon to do anything but to pay the preacher, and this I did as much as finances would allow.

Yet while I was in this sad condition I felt that God was calling me to do some work for him, but for a long time I did not heed his call. In 1892 I heard the doctrine of holiness preached by a brother who was a good man and living up to all the light he had on God’s word, though he has never heard the full truth and is entangled in sectish babel. This at first appeared to me as a strange doctrine, but soon found it was the Bible doctrine and determined by the help of God to live up to all the light I could get, and to do the whole will of God. So I applied for license to preach but the authority for licensing ministers was changed from the Quarterly Conference to that of the District, and therefore would have to wait till that body convened, which would be nearly twelve months. This I would not have minded if such actions had been authenticated by the word of God, but the question in my mind was, to know when the Quarterly Conference lost this power, if it ever had it, and when was the rule divinely changed? If it ever had the right of licensing ministers it must have yet, and if not the world is well supplied with imposters. So when interrogating some of the ministers on some of these questions they would say, “It’s just a church rule.” So about this time Bro. R. H. Owens came into this vicinity and began to preach the pure gospel and to show by the word of God what the church was, etc., and found they had truthfully said, “It’s a church rule,” for there is no such authority given by the word of God. Well I began to see how many such church rules they had in this sect I had always held so dear. I found the very sect itself was a mere “church rule,” for God only has one church, as you will find by reading Jno. 10:16. 1 Cor. 12:12, 13. Eph. 2:14-16, and many other places that space will not permit to mention. The enrollment of names that holds this body together is a mere church rule, for all saints’ names are to be written in the Book of Life. Phil. 4:3. And the opening of the doors to get these names to enroll is a mere church rule, for Christ says “I am the door, by me if any man enter in he shall be saved.”

Now it was a long time after I took the above obligation when I joined the M. E. sect to renounce the carnal desires of the flesh so that I would not follow after them or be led by them, before I fully understood what it all meant. But when I came to know that the word “sect” and “heresy” are synonymous, and heresy is the works of the flesh, I am forced to stand aloof from her. “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies. Now all of these are the works of the flesh and there is no difference in the words sect and heresy. Therefore it behooves every honest person that takes this obligation as I did, to follow the teachings of the word of God and come out from among them. “For if ye live after the flesh ye shall die, but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body ye shall live.” Rom. 8:13. “And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.” Gal. 5:24. Praise the Lord! for I have crucified the flesh and am basking in the noontide of liberty as it is in Christ Jesus. The Lord has made me free from sin, free from sectarian strife, free from carnality that dwelt within, free to worship God aright. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

Yet I have many friends and dear ones, yes, those who are dear by the nearest ties, that are still in the yoke of bondage; but my prayer is God save them all. We have a glorious little church at this place. Let me ask all of God’s people to pray for me that I may be kept humble, to do the whole will of God and declare the whole truth. Yours kept by the power of God,

B. M. Teekell.

THE NAME OF JESUS.

_____

SIGNIFIES SAVIOR.

Mat. 1:21 — And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shall call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. 23 — Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

THE GREATNESS OF HIS NAME.

Eph. 1:21 — Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come.

Phil. 2:9, 10 — Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.

Heb. 1:4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

THE POWER OF HIS NAME.

Acts 4:30 — By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.

TO GIVE LIFE. Jno. 20:31 — But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

TO GIVE SALVATION. Acts 2:21 — And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

4:12 — Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

10:43 — To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

Rom. 10:13 — For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

1Cor. 6:11 — And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

1Jno. 2:12 — I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.

1Jno. 5:9-13 — If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son Of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

TO HEAL DISEASES. Acts 3:6-16 — Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none: but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God: and all the people saw him walking and praising God: and they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him. And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering.

And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk? The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, .and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; and killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. And his name, through faith in his name, hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

4:7-10 — And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this ? Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, if we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

TO CAST OUT DEVILS. Luke 10:17 — And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

TO GIVE THE SONSHIP. Jno. 1:12 — But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.

Gal. 4:4, 5 — But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law. that we might receive the adoption of sons.

PROMISES THROUGH HIS NAME.

Jno. 14:13, 14 — And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

15:16 — Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

16:23-26 — And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I will shew you plainly of the Father. At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say unto you, that I will pray the Father for you.

14:26 — But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

WHAT WE SHALL DO FOR HIS NAME.

BE HATED. Mat. 10:22 — And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

FORSAKE ALL. Mat. 19:29 — And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

SUFFER SHAME. Acts 5:41 — And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

1Pet. 4:14 — If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the Spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of but on your part he is glorified.

Acts 9:16 — For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake.

21:13 — Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem tor the name of the Lord Jesus.

LABOR. Rev. 2:3 — And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast labored, and hast not fainted.

3Jno. 7 — Because that for his name’s sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.

WHAT WE SHALL DO IN HIS NAME.

Luke 24:47 — And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

BAPTIZE. Mat. 28:19 — Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 2:38 — Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

10:48 — And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord! Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

MANY OTHER THINGS. Mark 16:17 — And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues.

EVERYTHING. Col. 3:17 — And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ: I do praise the Lord for the wonderful work he has wrought in my soul. He saves me and sanctifies my soul, and heals my body. There are none of God’s dear saints here; I am alone with Christ. Though the devil rages I can praise the Lord in whom I trust. Pray for my husband that he may be saved; he was out in this evening light but has backslid. Also pray for my children. Your sister in Christ,

Dear Saints: I feel like writing my testimony. I am redeemed and sanctified by the precious blood of Jesus. Praise the dear Lord for ever calling me out of Babylon, for it is all confusion! Oh how blind I was when I was among them! God has an honest people among them but they are lead in the dark by false teachers. I am so glad for the holy Spirit which God has given me. Oh how I do love God’s little ones! I want to sit at the feet of Jesus and be humble. Praise his holy name forever!

Dear Saints of God: We thought it would be to the glory of God to tell of his wonderful healing power. Last fall our little boy who is now past two years old contracted a very bad cold and coughed hard all winter until spring, when it terminated in asthma, which would cause him to climb upon his pillow at night for breath. He kept growing worse until one of our neighbors said if it was his child he would be scared to death, and insisted on us sending for a doctor. But we remembered the promises of Christ; so we anointed him according to Jas. 5 14:15, and the Lord wonderfully healed him in answer to prayer. To God be all the glory. From your brother and sister in the one body,

Dear Brethren: I feel that the Lord would have me to write my testimony. I am glad the Lord has called after me and won my heart to him again, and sanctified my natnre. I have laid all on the altar. Praise the Lord! I was saved about fifteen months ago, and about six months ago I got cold and departed from the faith. The Lord has been wonderfully dealing with my soul. A short time ago my father wrote for the saints to pray for my healing, and the Lord did heal me soul and body. The Lord has made manifest his healing power several times since I have been saved. I am visiting with some of God’s true children, and since I have been here the Lord has healed me of the poison on my face. I was sick and he wonderfully healed me. I had a sharp pain in my breast near my heart and he healed me. Praise the Lord! Pray for me that I may grow in grace wherewith he has made us free. Your brother in Christ,

Dear Saints of God: I wish to write my testimony to the glory of God. I was converted last February while at a sect meeting, but the dear Lord soon showed me that he did not want me there; but I did not know where he would have me. I asked the dear Lord to show me what to do, and praise his dear name, he did. About the last day of February, while on my way home from town a friend gave me a paper called the Gospel Trumpet, and when I arrived at home I read the contents. Praise his dear name! What light! I knew just where the dear Lord wanted me. I started out on his promises, and while at meeting at sister Smith’s residence I was sanctified wholly. I ask the prayers of the dear saints that I sink deeper and be more humble. Yours in the one body,

Samuel Fine.

Dear Saints: I can truly say I am saved, sanctified, and washed in the. blood of Jesus. I want to say the Lord has been very good to me, and I am not afraid to trust him in trials and in sickness, for he said he will heal all of our diseases. I was sick about five years with congestion of spine and nervous prostration; was very low some of the time; doctored with different doctors without much benefit. But when I come to our great Physician, Jesus, I was healed. Now I go about my work praising God. Oh wonderful blessed Jesus! If there is one that reads these few lines that is not saved, oh come to the blessed Jesus! Why will you stay away from such a friend that you can trust in all things? It is my full desire to live for Christ. We as Christians must walk as he did, following his example. I want the children of God to pray for me. Your saved sister in Christ,

Kate Pifer.

Dear Saints of God: This leaves me well and strong in the faith of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Lord has shown me by the Spirit the true church of God, and that I can not look on those so-called sect churches as churches of God any longer, for they are built and ruled by man, and God says he is the builder of the church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Matt. 16:18. I have heard the call, “Come out of her, my people,” and I have come out of the M. E. sect and stand clear to-day from all divisions and sectism. Praise his holy name! I am no longer yoked up with unbelievers. I feel free to serve God aright and walk in this evening light. I can no longer recognize sprinkling as baptism, and do desire to follow Christ and be buried with him in baptism. I feel that the salvation of my family rests to a great extent on my prayers and faith; so pray much for me and that God will convict them and save them. Pray that he may save my ungodly husband and son, and remove all hindrances out of my way for baptism.

Dear Saints of God: I can truly say that Jesus is my justifier, sanctifier and my physician. Oh I do praise the dear Lord tor his love to me! Last February he saved me out of great spiritual darkness, through the preaching and practice of the blessed word, by Bro’s Green and Peterman of Woodburn. I rejected the truth at first, but I thank God in his infinite mercy he showed me my condition before too late. Blessed be God forever for his wondrous salvation, that keeps me tree from all sin! I belonged to the sect for a number of years (though I believe now without a real experience of salvation), but there was always a hungering in my soul that was never satisfied till I joined the Lord Jesus. And praise be to his dear name, my soul is filled to overflowing with love and joy and peace, and I am determined by God’s grace and strength to ever measure to his whole word. I get so much strength and help from the Gospel Trumpet. It is so good to hear of the mighty works of our God. I am so thankful that I live in the evening light dispensation. Dear ones, pray much for the work here in Oregon.

Dear Saints: This morning finds me sweetly saved. Praise his name forever! I am so glad that the sun of righteousness does shine with healing in my soul. Oh dear saints, God only knows the communion that my soul has in reading the testimonies of the saints from different parts of the country. May God still raise more and more faithful ones to testify to a Redeemers love. Oh that all men could realize the love the Savior has for poor sinners! I can never praise God enongh for what he has done for me. I was in such gross darkness and was blind to the truth. I was in despair both day and night my soul reminded me of a troubled sea which casts up her dirt and mire. How glad I am that God convicted me of sin and led me out of darkness into the light and liberty of the gospel of Christ! What a life of happiness I find in my blessed Savior! I do praise the Lord that it is my privilege to blow the Gospel Trumpet, that I can hold up an almighty Savior to a dying world, that can save from all sin, and keep us clean underneath the cleansing flow day by day. I am living in the midst of unbelievers of holiness, but praise God I can tell them how he saves me. and he is no respecter of persons; that there is salvation full and free for all. Saved and kept,

Dear Brethren axd Sisters: I praise the Lord for this full and free salvation. On the 14th of Aug. 1895 I gave my heart to God and was converted. I did not have the light on the oneness of God’s children, and those Babylon preachers made me think I would backslide if I did not join some (so-called) church, and I joined the Missionary Baptist sect, it being most popular there; and being taught to deny the power of full salvation I thought I had about all the. Lord had for me; and by not reading the Bible and praying as much as I ought to I became very unhappy with my life. But in December I promised the Lord if he would forgive me for the past I would do my duty more; and praise his holy name, he never turns us away empty, and he wonderfully blest me and I began to read the Bible and pray for light. And I began to believe in the second work of grace and I became dissatisfied with the faith of the Missionary Baptist sect. I began seeking to know which was the true church of God, and God showed me that he put me in it when I was converted. By reading the blessed word of God I saw that sectism was dividing the children of God, and that it was man’s work and contrary to the doctrine of the Bible. I heard a voice say, “Come out of her, my people;” and I consecrated myself to the will of God, and on the 10th of June, 1895, the Lord sanctified me. Glory be to his name! My soul has been full of the love of God ever since. But in a few days Satan tried to make me think that I was wrong; and I just commenced praying for the Lord to give me more light and true faith, and glory to his name he revealed wonderful things to me and opened my eyes that I could see. It makes my heart ache when I look all around me and see how people are blinded in sectism. My advice is for them to read the word of God and pray for God to take the scales off their eyes, that they may walk in the light as he is in the light. I want all the children of God to pray for me. Your saved brother in Christ Jesus,

John A. Vance.
